You stand still, facing the knight in your path.

"What are you doing here?" Derrick asks.
"The King suspected that his dear sister-in-law may try something, so he sent me to ensure that she failed" Frederic says.

"Just you?" You ask.
"I am all that will be necessary" He says.
"A lot of people are going to die if you don't get out of our way" Derrick says.
"People have died. And they will continue to die unless we wipe the demon plague from our kingdom" Frederic says.

"This place isn't helping" You say. "The Hell's Legion is in Lubars already, and I haven't seen a single one of them in here"

"The Legion comes from within" Frederic says. "If we allow ourselves to ignore the sins that lead to demonization, then we will crumble"
"Nice speech" Derrick says. "You get it right from the king?"

"The King has-"
"The King has lost his god damn mind!" Derrick shouts. "Yuu, we don't have time for this. You have to get past him"

"Think you can keep him busy?" You ask.

Derrick smirks, and brandishes his blade. "I guess we'll find out, won't we?" He asks. "Back me up, Pip. We're going in"

Pip looks between the two of you with a shocked expression. "You know he's the first knight, right?" Pip asks.

"Doesn't matter. He's in the way" You say.

Frederic pulls his sword from the ground, and takes up his stance. "I take it you're finished chattering amongst yourselves" He says. "Come, and see what hopelessness truly is"

Got the focus.

You and Derrick both charge forward. While Derrick runs straight in on the offensive, you stick to the sides hoping you can slip past.

But around 5 feet away, you stop. A barrier of light appears in front of you, blocking the entire hallway.

Derrick's sword becomes engulfed in flames, and he strikes the shining wall. He presses his blade in, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

"Damn it..." He says. "Pip, can you do something about this?"
"This is bigger than anything I could pull off" Pip says. "I don't think we can pass it"
"We have to pass it" You say.

You tighten your grip on your mageblade and strike the barrier, but it only bounces off. So you hit it again, and again, and again, until the fourth time when your blade shatters.

"Yuu, stop" Derrick says. "We aren't getting through like that"
"Think there might be another way around?" Pip asks.

"I dunno..." Derrick says.

Through your anger, a feeling of calm washes over you.

"There is no other way around" You say.
"So what do we do? Break through the impassable wall of light?" Pip asks.

You turn to her, and smile.

"Yes"

>1/2
>>
You reactivate your mageblade, letting all the energy you've absorbed from the air down here flow into it.

Pulling your arm back you focus all that energy into the blade's tip, and thrust. Soul energy from both inside and outside of you flows into that point, pushing your blade further into the barrier.

You feel it go forward, little by little, until it's pierced through the other side.

Then you let go of your control over that point, and all of the gathered energy explodes outward. It breaks the barrier, cracks the walls, and catches your opponent off guard.

You charge through, sidestepping the first knight's thrust. A lance of light appears in front of you as you try to go past. It flies toward your face, but is stopped in its path by something...

"Get goin'!" Pip shouts.
"You're not going anywhere" Frederic says, as he pivots and slashes.

"Yes he is!" Derrick shouts.

You hear a clash of steel as you continue to run to the door at the end of the hall. Frederic can't deal with them and you at once...

But Derrick didn't seem so sure of his ability to take this guy on. You should make this quick.

You leap towards the wooden door at full speed, slamming your foot into it and busting it open. Inside is... lots of things. Lots of complicated looking things, the purpose of which you don't know. You suddenly feel less confident about this as you did 5 seconds ago.

In the center of the large space is an orb of red energy, surrounded by several machines that look like they keep it in check and siphon its power off for other things...

Rolled 73 (1d100)

The nice things about all these wires and machines is that they look very delicate. It's all the kind of stuff that someone with a penchant for breaking things would have a field day with.

You pour more energy into your mageblade, taking it directly from the huge ball of soul at the center of the room.

But as you go to break some of the wires, you find it hard to move...

You look back towards the ball of soul, and see it stretching towards you. Reaching to you with tendrils of pure energy.

You try to cut the flow, but you don't know how.

Just like the first time you tried this, you feel yourself bursting at the seams. Something has to be done, and soon...

It all has to come out. If you keep on taking it in like this, you feel like you're going to explode.

You let your mageblade slip out of your fingers. It could never withstand this much power... and you aren't sure you'll fare much better.

But this still has to happen. So you focus the overwhelming energy out. You don't try to make it go through anything... just out.

Red lightning arcs off of you, tearing into everything. It melts the metal off the machines, it shreds the wires, it cracks the stone walls, it destroys the few consoles around the room.

It also tears through your clothing, burning away your cloak, hat and shirt...

In trying to control it, you realize that you have no power over this force. By forcing it out of you, you've turned yourself into a conduit for its destructive power. But better that it destroys this place than anywhere else...

When it's finally done, the machines destroyed, their energies dissipated, you collapse.

The ground is cold and rocky, the once smooth floors turned jagged by your assault.

"At least it's not... wet..." You say, as your vision darkens. "That'd... be... bad..."

Well shit.
>>
"Hey there" A voice calls through the dark. It's a familiar voice, but you can't quite place it...

You open your eyes to a dark, torn up room. The remains of the chaos engine are still where they were, and you must have destroyed the lights as well.

Several pieces of the wall have collapsed, and you can't seem to find the door anymore.

You sit up, and your head spins.

"Whoa there, not so fast" The voice says. It sounds feminine, and you feel a cold hand on your chest.

You look down to the hand. It's cold because it's armored, and the armor looks pretty nice at that. Folllowing the hand upward, you see that it is indeed attached to an arm. And that the arm is also armored, and attached to a body.

Naturally, the body has a head.

"Hello" You say.

It's the blond woman from Sherton, the one that chased that skull guy off and helped you out.

"I'm not naked am I?" You ask.
The blond woman giggles. "Really? The whole room's collapsed, you're in shambles, and the first thing you ask about is the state of your clothes?" She asks.
"It's a legitimate concern" You say.
"If you must know, your pants are still on" She says. "But... you'll probably need a new pair"

You look down to see that while they are still on, your pants are a smouldering mess...

"Aww man... I liked these pants" You say.
"Your priorities are strange" She says.

"Alright then... where did the door go?" You ask.
"This place collapsed, remember?" She asks.
"Oh yeah..." You say. "Is there a way out?"
"Not now, but there will be soon" She says.

You try to stand, and find that your legs feel pretty weak. You're also both very hungry and thirsty.

"What happened to the prisoners? And the hunters?" You ask.
"They're fine" The woman says. "They're both a little worse for wear, but nobody is dead"

You breathe a sigh of relief. "Good..." You say. "I thought I might've been too late"
"You weren't... I don't even think the engine came that close to firing" She says. "Even with the first knight in your way, you still managed to bust your way in here. I must say: bravo"

You shrug. "I'm just glad everyone is okay" You say.
"Everyone but you" She says.
"You said help was coming soon" You say.
"I said there'd be a way out soon" She says.

"They... they aren't comng for me?" You ask.

"How did you know I was still alive in here?" You ask.
"I had a hunch" She says.
"So you busted in?" You ask. "How did you even get in?"
"Same way we're getting out" She says, as she stands back up.
"You can get me out?" You ask.
"Of course I can" She says. "Why would I even bother coming down here if I couldn't get you out?"

"I dunno... maybe you wanted to gloat?" You ask.

We should give her back the chain we found in the armory in Sherton
>>
>writing

"Oh yeah, I have something for you" You say, as you reach into your pocket and pull out the chain that's been in there since Sherton.

She looks confused. "Where did you get that?" She asks.
"In Sherton" You say. "You and that crazy skull guy duked it out in the armory, and I think you probably dropped this"

"That's nice of you, but..." She says, as she reaches under her breastplate and pulls out the exact same chain. "It's not mine"
"Oh..." You say. "So what do I do with this?"
"Let me see" She says.

She takes the chain from you, and looks at the broken ends. Then she puts them together, and somehow it holds.

"There" She says as she puts the chain over your head. "You can keep this. Who knows, it might come in handy"

You look down at the crescent moon hanging from the chain on your neck. It sits just above the scar on your chest, and the metal is cold. "Thanks" You say.
"Don't thank me yet" She says. "Wait until I've gotten you out, then you can thank me"
"Okay" You say. "So... how are we doing that anyway?"

She holds her hand out again, and this time you take it.

"Hold on tight" She says.

>1/2

The woman holds her sword out to the ceiling, and the blade seems to crackle with red energy.

Then the ceiling warps and bends down towards you, until it engulfs you. You cling to the woman's hand, out of fear of being left in the ground if your grip should fail...

Then you're above the ceiling, as the ground 'unbuckles' and goes back to how it was.

"There. That wasn't so bad, was it?" She asks.
"Y-yeah... that was good" You say.
"You can let go of my hand now" She says.
"Do I have to?" You ask.
"Yes" She says.

With some effort, you manage to relax your fingers and release her hand. In your fear, it looks like you may have crushed her gloves a little...

"Sorry" You say.
"No worries, it's an easy fix" She says, as the finger-dents in her armor bubble back out and reset. "There"
"Wow..." You say.
"Now, I should be going" She says. "That son of a bitch will be wel ahead of me by now..."

As she turns to leave, you call out to her.

"Wait!" You say.

She stops, and looks back. "Hmm?"
"What's your name?" You ask.
She seems to realize something, and then she smiles. "Caiah" She says. "Caiah Valeri"
"Oh" You say. "I'm Yuu... just Yuu"

She laughs. "Don't worry, Yuu. I'm sure you'll find somebody willing to fix that" She says. "You can't be a one name man forever"

"How would someone fix that?" You ask.

She gives you a pitiful look, and swipes her hair to the side. "You have so much to learn..." She says.
"People keep saying that, but nobody wants to teach me" You say.
"You'll find out eventually" She says. "I'd stay and help you out, but..."

"You have to chase after the skull guy" You say. "What is his name anyway?"
She shrugs. "Just call him Terry" She says. "It's not his actual name, but it pisses him off"

"What's his actual name?" You ask.
"You'll find out eventually" She says again.

You puff out your cheeks in annoyance, and Caiah laughs.

"Come on now, don't be mad" She says. "I've got a bad guy to chase, and you should get back to your friends"
You straighten up. "Oh yeah" You say. "They'll be worried... how long was I down there for?"
"A little under 2 days" She says.

...

"That explains why I'm so hungry" You say.

Caiah gives you a shove. "Get going" She says. "They're still here for now, but they won't stay forever"
"Yeah" You say. "Good luck with Terry"
"Right back at you" She says. "Farewell, Yuu"

With that, you and the knight go your separate ways

You walk throughthr now ruined and empty halls of the prison, trying to find your way out.

It looks like they took everyone out, even the ones who were dead. Maybe they buried them outside...

Despite the 2 day nap you took, you still feel exhausted. You feel like the lightning that came off of you might have burned you as well.

You stumble through the prison until you finally come to a part that you recognize, and then you follow your memories to the exit.

It's dark out now, you figure it's just before dawn if you were down there as long as Caiah said you were.

Just outside the prison, the Archer's Pride has landed. From here you can see Hunters moving back and forth between an open ramp, and a big hole in the prison wall.

Someone spots you from the deck as you approach and calls it out to the people on the ground, who immediately start racing towards you.

"Holy crap, kid. You look like hell" One of them says. Your vision is a little blurry so you can't really tell, but it sounds kind of like Lance.

"I feel like hell" You reply.
"Come on, let's get you on board" He says. You feel him grab your arm and use it to support you. "Anything you need?"

"The generator room is still in one piece" You say
"Oh yeah?" Lance asks. "You'd think the source of the collapse would have actually collapsed"
You shrug. "It looked pretty sturdy" You say

"So how'd you escape?" He asks.
"There was this lady" You say. "A lady knight. I met her once back in Sherton, and she helped me there. She was there in the room, and she helped me escape"

"How did she get you out?" He asks.
"Through the ceiling" You say. "Then she left to go chase someone"
"Am I gonna find a giant hole if I go back in there?" He asks.
"No" You reply.
"Good, 'cause I don't really want to go back in there" He says. "We've been working for the last 2 days, tryin' to dig out the engine room to see if you were still alive. Now that you're here, we can go home"

"There's no one else inside?" You ask.
"Other than you and that lady? No" He says. "They kept surprisingly good records of the prisoners here, save for one that was marked unnamed"
"That was probably me" You say.
"Oh yeah?" He asks.
"They didn't name me until after we escaped" You say.
"Ah yeah. Franny told me that she wanted to call you Raul" Lance says. "Good name, came from her grandaddy. But I guess Yuu is a fine name as well"
"I like it" You say. "It's fun to mess with people who think you're saying 'you'"

Lance chuckles. "Well, I guess you are still a kid, after all" He says. "Watch this step there, we're up on the ship now"

>1/2

You and Lance come up to one of the bedroom doors, and Lance gives it a knock.

A very tired looking Derrick opens the door. "What is i-" He freezes midsentence.
"Hey" You say. "Miss me?"

Derrick hugs you, and squeezes you as hard as he can. "Holy shit you're alive" He says.
"Can't. Breathe" You reply.

He lets you go and holds you at arms length with his hands on your shoulders. "We thought we'd lost you" He says. "What the hell were you thinking, bringing the whole place down like that?"

"It was either that, or explode" You say. "I feel like this way ended better than the other way..."

Lance takes a step back. "I'll leave you guys alone, and be back in a bit" He says.
"Kay" You say.

"Yeah, uhh... sit down over there. I'm gonna grab Pip" He says.

You walk over to the comfy chair in Derrick's room and sit down, while he runs out to Pip's room.

"I guess it's done" You say.

You hope that every mission doesn't end like this. Too many narrow misses and close calls...

Sinking back into the nice, comfy chair, you start to feel that weariness coming back to you.

You grunt as you lean over to check yourself. It looks like you still have all your parts. Ten fingers, ten toes, 2 legs, 2 arms, one torso. You still have both of your eyes and all of your teeth, and you can still see your nose. You reach up and touch the sides of your head to check if your ears are there, and make sure you aren't missing any hair.

Good. Still in one piece, just like you promised.

That one piece is a little worse for wear, with scrapes and burns all over it. But you didn't promise you'd come back in perfect condition, just one piece, so a few scrapes and burns are fine.

...

Still no Derrick? What the heck is taking him so long?

You might as well do some mageblade... practice...

...

You grab around your waist, where your mageblade would usually be attached. But your hands find nothing. Even the peg that used to hold it on is gone...

You lean back into the chair. That's right... you dropped it when you were channeling. Which means it's still back in the generator room.

You don't think the hunters will want to dig out the whole room just for your blade...

But then, it was just a regular weapon that you forced a soul crystal into. You could do the same thing again, and get a new emitter from Tian. Hell, you could get a proper mageblade this time!

...

You'll have to ask about that when you get back to Locke. But you know that they have those sword handle thingies here. You saw them down in the cargo hold.

Or you could stay put. You are still pretty tired, and if Derrick came back to find you gone he might freak out.

He is taking a long time though. Just what is he doing over there?

Wait nevermind, there he is.

Derrick steps back into the room, with one cheek that is noticeably redder than it was before he left.

Pip walks in after him, dressed in what looks like her pajamas, looking noticably annoyed... but her face softens when she sees you.

"You're alive!" She says. Pip walks over to the chair, leaning in to give you a short, gentle hug before standing back up.
"Sorry I was gone so long" You say.

Pip runs a hand through your hair. "I'm sure if you could've come back sooner, you would've" She says. "You want me to get somebody to look at those wounds?"

You shrug. "If you want. I've gotten used to them" You say.
Pip smiles and nods. "I'll just go fetch a healer then" She says. "Oh! Does your girlfriend know you're back?"
"She's not my girlfriend" You say

Pip smirks. "But she does come to mind when someone says girlfriend" She says.
Your expression drops. "I-I mean... who?" You ask.
Pip giggles and puts her hands on your cheeks. "Oh Yuu. An expressive face will make you so many friends, but it also makes you a terrible liar" She says, lightly pinching your cheeks before turning and heading to the door. "I'll be back with a healer and a bunny"

"What happened there?" You ask, pointing at Derrick's cheek.

Derrick reaches up and touches the red spot, wincing as he does. "I may have barged in a bit prematurely and seen some things I shouldn't have" He says. "Needless to say, I have learned my lesson"

"Good boy Derrick!" Pip calls from outside the room.

Derrick sighs. "I knew she was still listening" He says. "How are you feeling?"
"Tired" You say. "I was out for 2 days down there, but it feels like I've been awake for a week..."

Derrick pulls a chair up in front of yours. "Well, we'll get something in your stomach, fix up those wounds, give you a chance to see Stella and put you to bed. How's that sound?"

"Sounds pretty nice" You say. "What happened down there after I blew up the engine?"
"The whole place started coming down" Derrick says. "Pip and I barely made it out, and that was just because Sir Dumas held the way open for us"
"Why would he do that?" You ask.
"There's more to him than blind loyalty... I hope" He says.

"We've sent general reports, but nobody wanted to say anything about you until we knew what happened" Derrick says.
"Good..." You say.

"You don't want them to know about this, do you" He says.

"It's fine... I guess" You say. "I just don't want them to worry for nothing"
"They won't be" Derrick says. "I'll write the letter myself, leading off with the fact that you're alive and okay, and then easing into the fact that you were missing for 2 days"

You smile. "Thanks"
"Don't worry about it. Emi and Ilica are my friends too" He says. "Why do you think I haven't said anything about you yet?"
"Because you're afraid Altea might cut your head off?" You ask.

Derrick waves that off. "She wouldn't do that" He says. "I might get scolded a bit, but she's not that harsh"

<Attention all passengers. The Archer's Pride will be taking off in a few moments. Please ensure that everyone is secure>

"Looks like we're getting on our way" Derrick says. "You ready to head back?"
"I lost my mageblade in the generator room..." You say.
"Ahh... well... how'd you get out?" Derrick asks.
"That lady knight who gave me directions in Sherton pulled me out" You say.
"You couldn't go back for it?" He asks.
"She did some kind of weird warp thing" You say. "There was nothing to go back through"
"Well we can get the castle's blacksmith to fix something up for you" Derrick says. "God... that would throw old Garl for a loop. I don't think he's ever made a mageblade before..."

"Would I be better off with a new one?" You ask. "I kinda liked the old one..."
"You've never used an actual mageblade" Derrick says. "I got the chance to talk to Tian about the one she uses a few days ago. She actually had to make hers, since they aren't exactly a big market"

"Maybe I could get her to make me one" You say. "Or borrow one of her spares..."
"I'm sure she'd be willing to teach you how to make one yourself" Derrick says. "She seems eager to pass on her craft... she's just not the best of teachers"
"I noticed" You say. "But she still does a pretty good job"

"Yeah. That thing you did to break Sir Dumas's barrier, was that something you learned or was that the glowing eye thing?" Derrick asks.
"A little bit of both" You say. "I just used what I knew about sharpening the blade to funnel everything into the tip"
"And the blast?" He asks.
"There was a lot of energy in that one little point" You say. "All I really had to do was let it go"
"Huh... well it certainly was effective" He says.

"It had to be..." You say.
Derrick puts a hand on your shoulder. "Yeah. You did good" He says, as he takes his hand off your shoulder and holds it out as a fist.

You smile, and fistbump him. "Thanks"
"I'm glad you're okay" He says as he stands up. "I'm gonna go write that letter now. Feel free to sleep in here if you want. I'll come and wake you before we get to Locke"

"Alright" You say.
"Want me to grab you a new shirt, too?" He asks. "And everything else too, I guess"
"Yes please" You say.

Derrick nods. "Alright man, Lance should be back soon. I'll catch you later"

You wave to Derrick as he steps out, feeling oddly happy. You guess it's nice to be complimented...

>1/2

Shortly after Derrick leaves, Lance comes in.

"Heyo" He says. "Nobody was in the kitchen at this hour, so I hope you like ham sandwiches"
"Is it food?" You ask.
"Yep" He says, as he hands you a plate and a glass.
"Then I will love it" You say, as you set the plate down in your lap and take a long drink from the glass. "What is this?"
"Never had chocolate milk before?" He asks.
"No" You say. "I like it"

"Good to hear" Lance says.

With that, you scarf down the sandwich and down the chocolate milk. It wasn't much, so you're not quite full. But at least you aren't starving anymore.

"You good now?" Lance asks. "You devoured that thing like a hungry wolf"
"I was hungry" You say. "Thank you"
"No problem, kid" He says. "You guys saved us in there, you know. As soon as the chaos engine turned on us, the ship's generator stopped responding. We were dead in the water"

"We knew" You say.
"Yeah, Derrick told us" Lance says. "A man in black, with skulls on his shoulders and a red mageblade... huh? We saw what he did to those guards. You guys were lucky to make it out of there alive"

"I don't think he wanted to kill us" You say.
"No?" He asks.
"Well, after changing the target and wrecking the console he just kind of... left" You say. "It was weird..."
"Let's not dwell on the motivations of madmen" he says. "We're all alive, and that's what matters"

"Yeah" You say.

You hear a knock at the door, disrupting your train of thought.

"That'd probably be Castor's girl" Lance says with a wink. "I'll leave you alone now"

"See you later" You say.

Lance smiles, and heads out. When he opens the door, he politely bows his head. "Ms. Lepol"
"Good morning Hunter" Stella says. "Is Yuu..."
"He's in there" Lance says.

Stella and another woman you don't recognize walk into the room. The woman has green skin, which seems odd...

"Hi Stel-oof!"

Stella tackle hugs you, toppling the chair over backwards with both of you still in it.

"Ow" You say, as the chair hits the ground and you land flat on your back.
Stella lands on you, straddling your waist and leaning over you. "Do you have any idea how worried I was?" She asks. A few ters fall from her eyes, down her face to her chin, where they drip onto your chest "We thought you'd..."
"I'm fine" You say.
"No you're not! You're covered in burns and cuts!" She says.
"Aside from the burns and cuts" You say.

Stella frowns, and hugs you, pressing her face hard into your chest.

You reach up and stroke her hair to comfort her. You're not actually sure if this works, but you think it might. Plus her hair is still really soft...

"Ms. Lepol..." The person Stella came in with says. "I know you're emotional right now, but I can't heal him with you there..."

Stella's ears perk up, and she lifts her face off of your chest to look atthe other person. "Ah, sorry Naiah" She says, as she wipes a tear from her eye. "I forgot you were there..."
"If you'd like, I can come back later..." The green lady says.
"No" Stella says, her demeanour switching to something more professional than what you're used to. "I'm fine, do it now"

The green lady nods, as Stella gets off of you and stands up. Then she helps you to her feet.

You smile. "At least I'm still in one piece" You say.

Stella smiles back, and puts a hand on your cheek. "back in one piece, just like you promised" She says. "But... maybe do it a bit sooner next time..."
"I'll try" You say.
"That's all I ask" She says. "Now, go lay down so Naiah can do her thing"

Stella turns you towards the bed and starts pushing you along.

"What is Naiah's thing?" You ask.
"I'm a healer" Naiah says.
"And a good one" Stella says. "When Pip asked for a healer, Naiah was the first one to come to mind.
"Yes, she even came and woke me up" Naiah says. She doesn't sound too happy about that...

"Sorry, you can go back to bed after this" Stella says.
"That is the plan" Naiah says.

You lay down on the bed, and Naiah puts a hand on your chest.

"Oh dear..." She says.
"That's normal" You say.
"It is" Stella says.

Naiah shrugs. "I won't ask" She says, as tendrils of green energy start to stem from her hand. "Let's see... minor fractures, bruises, burns, scrapes, tears..."

"Can you fix it?" You ask.
Naiah smirks and pushes her hand down on your chest, causing the tendrils to thicken and squirm. You start to feel like something is crawling under your skin.

"I-is this normal?" You ask. "It feels weird"

Before you can get an answer, Naiah rips her hand away, pulling the green tendrils out in one smooth motion.

"Done" She says.
"Done?" You ask, as you look yourself over. "Wow"

"Except for that scar, but that seems to be beyond my expertise" She says. "Your energy lines are also incredibly stressed"
"That's okay. I like the scar" You say. "And there's a good reason for the stress"
"That's good, because if it's beyond my expertise then I doubt anyone else can get it off" She says. "If that's all..."

"That will be all, thank you" Stella says.
Naiah stretches out, and heads out of the room.

Once she's gone, Stella looks down at you...

You smile as you lever yourself up onto your elbows. "I miss anything while I was gone?" You ask.

Stella frowns and punches your arm. "Only the 2 day long hunt for you, or your bo-..." She stops. "We were worried..."
"I'm sorry..." You say. "If I could've come back sooner, I would have..."

Several emotions play across Stella's face, before settling on a tired smile. Looking at her face close up like this, she looks like she hasn't slept since you left...

Both of you open your mouths to speak at the same time, and both of you stop to let the other talk. After a short pause, both of you start laughing.

"You look tired" she says.
"I am tired" You say. "How about you?"
She smiles and nods, before stretching and letting out a long yawn. "Believe it or not, stress can keep you awake..."

Stella's yawn proves contagious, causing you to yawn as well. "Well, I'm gonna get some shut eye" You say.

"Kay" Stella says.

You lay back down, expecting Stella to say goodbye or something.

Instead, she hops right into the bed next to you and snuggles up.

She must feel you tensing up, because she lifts her head up to see your face you. "Something wrong?" She asks.

Stella looks at you curiously. "You seemed pretty tense there... is this too much?"
"This is fine" You say.

Stella's expression softens, as she plants her head on your shoulder. "Us bunnies love to snuggle, remember?" She asks.
"So... do you do this kind of thing a lot?" You ask.

"No" She says. "But I like you, and I'm really sleepy so I'm doing it this time"
"Oh" You say. "Cool"

Stella giggles. "Cool?" She asks. "My, we've got a regular charmer over here"
"Thanks" You say.
"Oh, Yuu..." Stella says with a sigh.
"What?" You ask.

Stella pops up to give you a kiss on the cheek. "Nothing" she says. "Good night"
"Good night" You reply.

You awaken to the sound knocking at your door.

"Come in" You say without thinking.

Stella shifts next to you, disturbed by the sudden noise. Her ear twitches, but she doesn't wake up.

You turn away from Stella, to see who is at the door. You're met by the sight of Derrick, frozen in shock and completely speechless.

"Do I even want to-"
"Shh!" You say. "Bunny is sleeping"

Derrick sighs, and lowers his voice. "Do I even want to know how this happened?" He asks.
"We were tired" You say.
"You still look tired" He says.
"Because I'm still tired" You say. "What's up?"

"I just wanted to let you know that we're almost in Locke" He says, as he steps in. "And I brought you something to wear. One of the hunters who's about your size had some spare clothes"
"Cool" You say.
"No hats or cloaks though. You'll have to grab those in town"
"I can do that later" You say.

He nods, and puts a bundle of clothes on the table. "I'll just leave these here" He says.

"How long before we're in Locke?" You ask.
"We're about an hour away now" He says.

"So I can sleep for another hour?" You ask.

Derrick chuckles. "Yeah" He says. "Sleep tight, man"

You wave him goodbye, and then roll yourself to face Stella. She's still sleeping soundly, so you pull her in a little bit, and close your eyes.

It doesn't take too long to get back to sleep, happy and warm and in good company.

...

That lasts for about 20 minutes. You're woken yet again by the door bursting open.

"Hello!" A male voice shouts.

This time Stella stirs, and levers herself up. "Uuuu... g'morning dad" She says.
"How are you feeling?" The huntmaster asks.
"Better" She says.

Castor approaches the bed, and puts a hand on Stella's head. You remain perfectly still.

"You look better, after how tired you were yesterday" Castor says.
"I slept well" She says, still sounding half asleep. "Yuu is super warm and snuggly, an' his chest is nice an' quiet"

Castor chuckles. "Is he?" He asks, as he pats you on the back. "Well, thanks for looking out for her, Yuu"

"A-any time" You say, trying your best to sound confident... "Please don't kill me"

... and failing.

Castor laughs. "Don't worry, kid" He says. "I won't kill you..."

You breathe a sigh of relief, and let yourself relax.

"... yet" He says.

You tense back up, as Castor laughs. "I'll see you kids later" He says. "Don't do anything I wouldn't do"
"Bye daad..." Stella says.
"Sleep well, dear" She says.

Castor leaves, and shuts the door behind him.

As soon as he's gone, you relax again and roll back onto your back.

"Don' worry Yuu. He wouln't kill ya" Stella says. She rolls towards you to stay snuggled up, resting her head on your chest with one arm laying across your stomach.
"I dunno..." You say, looking down to see... that she's already asleep. "Oh..."

...

You might as well close your eyes too. You don't think Castor will kill you, not with his daughter here.

That settles it. If you want to stay alive, you can never leave Stella's sight. That way Castor can never kill you.

...

Or maybe Stella is right.

You hope Stella is right.

You manage to get back to sleep after a few minutes. Petting Stella's hair is very relaxing. You'll have to find out how she gets her hair to be so soft, then you could do that yourself and pet your own head.

...

Would that be weird? That seems sort of weird.

Unfortunately, you're woken again another 20 or so minutes later by yet another knock.

You try to ignore it this time, hoping that whoever it is will go away and let you sleep. But the knocking comes again, accompanied by a voice.

"I know you're in here" Altea says through the door. "Open up"

You grumble to yourself and rub your eyes with the hand that isn't trapped under Stella.

"It's open" You call out.

The door opens and Altea steps in. "Honestly, I came all the way up here to see if you were alright. The least you could d-" Her words get stuck in her throat when she sees you, and her face turns bright red.

"I'm doing fine. Stella had one of the guild's healers patch me up" You say.
"Ah... yes" She says, as she awkwardly points to Stella. "Is that... uhh... Stella?"
"Yes" You say.

"I see" Altea says. "I'll just... go get Derrick's report"

You take a deep breath in, and rub your eyes again.

"Have we landed already?" You ask.
"No. You're still a little ways off" She says

You blink several times, processing what's wrong with that sentence. "How did you get here?"

Altea raises an eyebrow, extends her wings.

"Oh yeah" You say.
"Aaaanyway" She says. "I'll leave you two alone"
"Thanks for checking in" You say.
"Think nothing of it" She says. "A few days ago, moving forward with this rebellion was a dream. Now it's a reality, and it's all thanks to you. So... enjoy your... alone time"

"I will" You say. "See you later"

Altea gives you a stiff nod, before turning and almost walking straight into the doorframe. She quickly corrects herself, and exits the room.

That was odd. Altea's never acted like that before... you wonder why her face was so red...

...

Well, you're not going anywhere right now without disturbing Stella. You might as well rest until the ship lands...

>1/2

You awaken again to the feeling of the room shaking. That would probably be the ship landing in the port... you hope.

Looking down, you see that it woke Stella as well. She sits up and rubs the sleep from her eyes, letting out a yawn as she does.

"G'mornin'" She says.
"God morning" You say, as you also sit up. "Sleep well?"
"Like a baby" She says. "You?"
"Same" You say.

She stretches out, and bounces up and down a few times, causing the bed frame to squeak. "Was that the landing?"
"Yeah" You say.

"So soon?" She asks. "Man, I had the weirdest dream"

"That wasn't a dream" You say. "Your dad was here"

Stella looks surprised, and stops bouncing. "He was?" She asks.
"He came to see how you were feeling. You two had a full conversation" You say.
"Weird... you'd think I'd remember that" She says, before shrugging and going back to bouncing. "You know he was kidding about killing you"

"Are you sure?" You ask.
She nods. "He gave the same treatment to the boys who took an interest in Avella, too" She says.
"Oh" You say. "That's good to hear"
"Just don't get on his bad side and you'll be fine" She says
"Less good to hear" You say.
"Relaaaax. He's a hard man to piss off" She says. "Just don't do anything really stupid"

Your expression sours as you hear that.

"I mean spectacularly stupid, or mean-spirited. Not just reckless" She says.
"Okay" You say. "I can manage that"
"Good" She says.

"Okay" You say, taking up a similar position to Stella, and bouncing up and down on the bed.
"Just like that!" She says.
"I'm not so sure about this" You say.
"Trust me, you'll feel great" She says.

You keep going for a second, but don't really feel anything.

"I don't think it's working" You say.
"Then let's go faster!" She says, as she picks up speed. "faster faster faster!"

You match her pace, the only sound in the room is the frequent squeaking of the bed, and Stella's breathing.

"I dunno..." You say.
"Just keep going, trust me" She says. "It'll be great"

You raise your eyebrow at her. That was a strange way of wording that...

Stella's lips curve into a mischievious smile, and you start to suspect that she's up to something.

Suddenly the door bursts open. "Stop right the-" Ilica shouts.

You turn to see Ilica standing in the doorway, frozen in shock, pointing dramatically at you and Stella.

Stella bursts out laughing, as Ilica turns away and curls into a ball. "Ahhhhhh... played again" She says.
"Like a fiddle!" Stella says.
"Does that mean I can stop bouncing?" You ask.
"If you want" Stella says.
"Good" You reply, as you come to a stop.

Emi pokes her head into the doorway, tongue flicking around to smell the room. "Why were you bouncing in the first place?" She asks.
"To get the blood pumping! At first..." Stella says enthusiastically. "I kept going because I could hear the cat standing at the door~"

"I get that... but Yuu's blood doesn't pump" She says.

Emi looks down at Ilica. You can still only see her head and her hands gripping the doorframe. "He's got a point" She says.
"Sleeping until noon?" Ilica asks.

"Not my fault. Yuu kept me up all night last night" Stella says.

Ilica's jaw drops.

"She was worried because I went missing" You say.

Ilica's jaw drops further.

"Oh... you didn't get a letter from Derrick?" Emi asks.
"I did not" Ilica says. "You went missing? How long were you gone?"
"2 days" You say.

"2 days?!?" Ilica shouts."How come no one told me?"
"I thought you knew" Emi says.

Ilica looks mad. You can kind of see a vein twitching in her forehead.

"Are you okay?" Emi asks.
"AHHHHHHH!" Ilica shouts, before pointing to each of you in turn. "You! Put some damn clothes on so we can take you out to lunch to celebrate a job well done! You! Get out so he can put on some damn clothes! You! Come with me, I need to 'talk' to Derrick!"

Ilica storms out, stomping down the hallway in search of Derrick. As she leaves, Emi quickly slithers in and hugs you.

"Me too" You reply.

Emi gives youa squeeze, then releases you and heads back to the door. "I should go make sure she doesn't try to claw poor Derrick" Emi says. "Wait for us down on the docks, okay?"
"Okay" You reply.

Emi slithers out of the door and heads down the hall in the direction of the stomping. Then Stellaleans on your back, hugging you from behind.

"Thanks for the company" She says.
"No problem" You say. "I-I could do that again..."

Stella giggles, and pecks you on the cheek. "Me too" She says, as she hops off the bed. "I probably have work to do, so I'll see you around"
"Bye" You say.

Stella walks out, leaving you alone in the room.

Now... where did Derrick leave those clothes?

I don't even know if she likes him or if his immaturity is just in her strikezone to want to take care of him.

To be honest I think she's confused about her feelings too.

You get the pants and the shirt on quickly enough. The pants aren't as comfy as your old ones, but they're much warmer.

You don't have shoes, though you can get those later as well.

After doing a couple movements to see how the new clothes stretch, you head out.

A belt is another thing you should add to the list of stuff you need. These pants don't quite fit... But they stay up well enough for now, you'll just have to pull them up every now and then.

Outside your room, you make a left and head towards the deck. Once you're up there, you see that it's pretty busy.

The hunters are moving about everywhere, unloading and loading stuff both up here and down below. The only person you recognize on the deck is Layla, who seems to be the only one not doing anything...

At the bottom of the ramp, you see Castor talking to a man with glasses who you don't recognize. The man looks stern and serious compared to Castor, as he notes things down and calls out orders.

Or he would looks stern and serious, if Vivian weren't on his shoulders. The tiny felid swipes at people who pass by the stern man, and starts licking his hair when there's no one close by...

Well, now we know what it is to have a felid daughter.

You head down the ramp to where Castor and the other guy are standing. Vivian is the first to notice you, as her eyes lock on like you're a target...

Then Castor notices Vivian's sudden shift, and turns to see what it is.

"Ahh, how's it going Yuu?" Castor asks.
"Good" You say, feeling tense again.
Castor chuckles. "Relax, I was only kidding" He says.
"

"So this is Yuu" The stern looking man says, as he adjusts his glasses. "I'm Richard, it's a pleasure"

Richard offers his hand, so you give it a firm shake.

"Likewise" You say. "What are you guys talking about?"
"The repairs to the Pride's generator, and other supplies" Richard says. "The chaos engine seems to have caused some damage. Mostly superficial, but if left alone it could-"

The man keeps talking about the possibly problems that could come from the engine. It seems like he's really trying to be serious, but you just can't take him seriously with the tiny felid there...

You notice that Vivian's changed positions to his shoulder. It looks almost like she wants to pounce on you...

And that's exactly what she does, leaping from Richard's shoulder while he's mid sentence and attaching herself to the front of your shirt with her claws.

This draws a chuckle from Castor, and an apologetic look from Richard.

"Vivi, don't just attack the boy" Richard says.
You shrug. "It's fine" You say.

Looking down at the felid, you can see it dawning on her that she did not think this through. You see her start to panic, as she realizes that she has no idea how to climb from here...

You put one arm underneath her for support, while the other goes above her to scratch her head. The combination makes for a very relaxed tiny felid. It doesn not, however, get her to retract her claws from your shirt...

"Hello Vivian" You say. "Did you miss me?"
Your answer comes in the form of a low, grumbly purr.

"You've met Vivi?" Richard asks.
"Ilica brought her to the castle with the other kids" You say.

Richard pulls out a small notebook and flips through it until he comes to a particular page.

"Ah yes, you're friends with Miss Kepli. I'd forgotte about that" Richard says.
"Are you still using that damn book?" Castor asks.
"Of course" Richard says, as he closes the book and puts it back in his pocket. "One must keep track of these sorts of things"

"What sorts of things?" You ask.
"Interpersonal relationships" He says. "Who knows who, and how they relate and see each other. Very useful to keep a hall moving smoothly"
"Have you considered just talking to people?" Castor asks.
"Naturally" Richard replies. "How else would I have gotten the information to fill the book?"

Castor sighs, and covers his face with his hand. "Back me up here, Yuu. This guy' insane"

"I just remember all that stuff" You say.
"The memory is a fallible construct" Richard says. "Knowledge on paper is concrete"

"What if you lose it?" You ask.
"This is not my only copy" He says.
"You have more of those?" Castor asks.
"Of course! If I only had one copy and lost it, I would be forced to create a new one. That would take time away from my work, which would put me and the entire guild behind!"

"What does he do anyway?" You ask. "Is he like... second in command?"
"He is the second in command's assistant" Castor says. "But my second in command, competent as she is, is also quite lazy. So Richard is the one who ends up doing her work most of the time"

"So he's... second and a half in command?" You ask.
"That sounds about right" Castor says. "Where is the missus, anyway?"
"You have 3 guesses" Richard says.
"She's either sleeping, hunting, or procrastinating" Castor says.
"Currently out hunting" Richard says.

Castor sighs. "She knows there's work to be done..." He says. "We're talking about his wife, by the way"
"Oh" You say.

"Yes, soon my household will be overrun with felids..." Richard says.
Castor snorts. "You never seem to object to makin' a new one, though. Do ya?" He asks.

Richard looks shocked, and his face turns red. "Well, that's... not important!" He says. "The important thing is that I am already outnumbered"
"Aww, little Vivi's not that bad" Castor says. "Even Yuu there's got her handled, although he might actually have a way with the ladies..."

>What's a way with the ladies?

"What's a way with the ladies?" You ask.

Castor starts laughing. "It means they like you" He says through his laughter. "Can't say why though, you've never seemed like much of a charmer"
"I've always believed that it's about honesty" Richard says. "Women like it when you're open with your feelings"

Castor laughs even harder. "Good one" he says. "Now tell him how that worked out with Terri"
Richard gets flustered. "It was one time" He says. "One rejection, and you'll never let me live it down"
"But it was a beautiful rejection, Richy" Castor says. "Trust me, boy. Honesty is not always the key"

"Really? That's not what Stella said" You say. "She said I should always tell a girl when I think she's cute"

Castor looks surprised. "Stella did?" He says, suddenly looking defeated.
Richard puts a hand on Castor's shoulder. "It's okay. This isn't the first time you're been wrong" He says.

As Castor ponders his daughter's motives, your attention is drawn down to Vivi. She's started to knead your chest, extending and retracting her claws as she does so.

"Is that normal?" You ask.
"Ah, give her here. She's probably hungry" Richard says, as he reaches over and lifts the little Felid off of you. He gently cradles her on one arm, while the other goes into the bag on his shoulder and pulls out a bottle.

"How do you make a new Felid, anyway?" You ask.
"What, you mean like... a baby?" Castor asks.
"Yeah. People keep saying they'll explain it, but they never do" You say.

Castor and Richard both look up with wide eyes, then they turn to each other,

"Not it" Castor says.
"Not i- damn..." Richard says.

Castor steps back, motioning for Richard to continue.

"Okay..." Richard says. "So... uhh... you see... hmm... when-... hmm..."
"I take it back, I'll do it" Castor says, as he steps back up. "So here's the deal..."

That's all for tonight!

Next thread will hopefully be on Saturday, and then I'm taking a break next week to go on vacation.

As always I'll be sticking around for question/suggestion time!
