Character Sheet(s): Pending

Welcome to Starborn Quest. You are Purps.

Apparently you're a rarity in this world; a Starborn able to fight but unaligned in the ongoing struggle between The Republic and The Rebels. Which, while it's nice to be special is a bit of a drag considering you don't know your name, home, date of birth or have any memories at all besides one about climbing a tree.

You've also realzied you're emotionally crippled. Having only one real emotion available to you; Curiosity. Despite your weirdness you've agreed to be a bodyguard for some old man who was getting attacked by Rebels in exchange for food and cigarettes.

Quest will start in 10 minutes

Write-ins are welcome in this quest and will be incorporated where possible.
This quest is very dice light, I do not expect to need to roll until about thread 4.
This setting is a big sandbox or lego set and as players I invite you to fuck around in it however you please.

You stare at the ceiling of the wagon. In the prevening dusk it really takes on a nice colour. But more than that, you look around at the cabin. Yes that's right, this wagon is somehow a lot bigger on the inside. The enchantments on this thing must have cost more than a banker would see in a year.

You have no idea why you know that expression.

But with Doc Lexington guiding the wagon via more magic, you're left to lie on the floor and stare up at the fabric. You spent the first half hour trying to fix the ragged hole your buzzsaw left in the... well from the outside it was fabric but in the interior there's a large gaping whole in the lumber.

You don't really need to do much as a bodyguard, except kill anyone who tries to mess with the Doc. For free meals and as much money as you can spend that's not a bad gig at all. But killing time is not something you're good at. In frustration you;

Long hair gets in the way anyways, nothing worse than getting hair in the eyes mid-battle

You get up and start pacing around looking for inspiration and boy do you find it. In the form of your reflection. You notice your hair is nestling in your cleavage after lying down for so long and oyu just cannot be having that. For one, it's tactically unviable.

Secondly, you don't find it aesthetically pleasing.

Third, it's warm.

Fourth....

You immediatly claim a strange alchemy blade from a table to your right staring intensely into the vaguely shield looking mirror. You can do this, you can cut hair; it's easy. You can fly through the air with buzzsaws orbiting your skin at a speed that'd make a horse weep. You got this.

You got this.

You begin slicing locks and...

It looks pretty damn good if you say yourself. Though you could maybe take a nother cut abouuuutt.....

The wagon-cabin stops moving suddenly. The whole room jolting and you almost lose an ear for your trouble. You hear Lexington shout back;

"That's us at the gate Purps. We'll be getting searched soon.

You go and sit up with your boss of course. Taking a deep breath of the now night time air. You reflect on your day, you really wish you knew what happened yesterday. or the day before. In all honesty, you just want to know your plaace in this world.

You pull yourself up next to Lexington's seat, noting that his position has padding and armrests while you're sitting on wood. The guards are taking their time so the both of you light up cigarettes.

"Thanks

He looks at you, "You're not gonna reach 300 if you keep smoking this much. He puts on his best angry father face but it doesn't reach his eyes.

"Your concern is noted " You exhale a cloud of smoke and look at him, "It won't stop me from protecting you

It seems your response was not what he wanted.

In thread 0 people voted tomboy after the "female choice" mentioned long hair. So I had to give a haircut option.

Don't worry hair grows in this world and the anons might decide long hair is better at some point.

Don't know if I'm happy or sad the "hair wars" didn't get to "waifu Wars" level.

[CURRENT EMOTION: CURIOSITY]

You take a look at the guards and try to discern anything. There are two different squads searching people entering the city at night. Perhaps there has been trouble lately?

The squad approaching you consist of two hulking brutes. One wields a morningstar and the other a pair of hunting rifles. Interesting.

"None of them are starborn. Lexington whispers as he notices you studying them. He has taken his glasses off and probably did his thing.

But the Sgt of this particular squad is a woman slightly taller than you. An elegant rapier sits at her side and a firearm that is the bastard child of an assault rifle and handgun sits to the other side. Her uniform is black as opposed to the other two's grey and on her blonde curling hair is a rather striking black hat to match.

She radiates authority, confidence and power as she approaches.

You decide that to be polite would be the best thing here. So far your only social interaction has been accidentally bullying a Rebel and Intimidating an old Doctor who turned out to be pretty coool but you got this... right?

"Good Evening!" You say, trying your best to be as polite and welcoming as possible. It sounds super fake to you....

"Good Evening madam!" She chirps back, her strange accent somehow making her sound even more chipper "Velcome to Grinnsmon. I am Seargeant Honamurei! It is my faver's name. Long story!"

The two suns shine less than this woman talks.

"Ve vill be searching your vagon now herr doctor. State your business and your relation to this passenger!" She always seems to shout/sing song stuff at you too. Chirping is a good word. She's like one of those morning birds.

The two guards head into the back, stopping for a heartbeat at the damage you caused. Before proceeding inside to ruffle around.

You lean back as the Doc aswers some basic questions. Mentioning he has money held within town that he needs. You ears perk up as he begins to address you and the magical stuff in the back. "I'm a rather out of ractice Wizard and alchemist. My companion here is interested in the art and a capable fighter. She is both my apprentice and Bodyguard.

Her gaze turns to you, so you smile and nod politely but you can't help but ask with typical flat delivery;
[CURIOSITY]
"Miss Honamurei, why does you voice sound like birdsong? Plus where is your accent from?"

For some reason the Sgt. blushes. Before laughing loudly; "HA! That's new. DID YOU HEAR THAT VILLIAM?! MY VOICE IS LIKE A BIRD SINGING!"

She tops and smiles at you, "Call me Hona. Faver's name is much too long. But I am from a village called Reman very far to East." Her men come out and nod that your story lines up and she gives your her huge smile again, taking off her cap and waving you on. "Please enjoy our town my fraulein. And you too herr Doctor!"

That was surprisingly easy. Lexington chuckles; "Aren't you the charmer. Was I not pretty enough to get compared to a bird?" [/i

He looks at you confused. "Because you paid her a rather charming compliment? Because what you said was sweet? Are you really that emotionally crippled?

You look at him blankly and shrug, "I was being genuine. Her voice reminds me of a bird."

"Well sometimes kiddo, there's nothing as powerful or good as a sincere compliment." He starts doing that thing where he gets lost in the past.

But a minute later he brings the wagon to a stop. Night is in full swing and you can hear revelry going on throughout the town. He calls you over when he hears your stomach grumbling; "Go get some food. I'm going to go get my money. Meet back here in five hours at the latest Purps. I know you as curious as a sphynx so if you go exploring you better not fuck up and start a fight. Right?"

You nod. Where do you go to hunt for food?

As Lexington heads into a building you rather doubt is any kind of financial insitution. You about face and begin walking up the nearest wall. The nearest wall being made of beautiful grey stones that are probably older than most dragons. You again have no idea why dragons are your point of reference and in fact wonder if they are real.

After about thirty seconds of vertical walking. You sit on the edge of the a ledge looking out over the [s] city[/s] small village. To your back is a rather fantastic antique bell, it menaces with spikes of ivory and is engraved with owls. You think that this belltower is the tower from the town's crest.

Regardless you spot the revelry with ease. Large wicker poles have been erected and people are dancing around them. But there seems to be a large gathering of food vendors AND people serving what you assume to be alcohol.

Your stomach grumbles as you watch. You;

You leap down instantly, your hunger will be sated and you will also get to stretch your legs. You freefall, feeling the air whistle by your now shortened hair and exposed ears. You're not concerned, in fact you feel as empty as ever as you take out the gloves from you pocket and slip them on.

You spin, throwing your blade to hook on the awning of some bakery as you do. Yanking back as you see the ground eager to beocme intimate with your body. Yanking back on the wire you launch yourself over the small red tiles of the bakery and into the night sky. The force of your launch giving you a sense of weightlessness and seconds of time to plan your next jump. You are a star amongst stars as you spool your blade in a wide arc. Anchoring on a chimney and pulling yourself to it with the same difficulty a man might lift his child.

It's easy for you to cross town like this, sometimes using your wire to grapple and navigate but most times simply running and leaping form tiled roof to tiled roof. You find some satisfaciton in your performance, only breaking a slight sweat as you find yourself standing over the site of the festival.

You notice dancing, lots of it. In particular one man with the ears of one of those tiny foxes catches your attention. He is encircled with onlookers, apparently waiting their turn in the circle. He is dancing like his life depended on it.

Thankfully his life, to your knowledge does not depend on it.

You dance, trying to emulate what the guy before you was doing with the timed jumps and hand movement. But you don't know these people or their traditional dance. So you guess it's time to improvise.

You consider your combat a dance of death right? So surely just showboating with your buzzsaw and wire would work.

It works.

Ho-boy does it work.

You start with a porouette, loosening your wires dramatically. The torches and lights all catch the wire - bright lines spinning around you as your blade roars to life. You pull it taught an jump it, recalling it and flipping ove ragain. You cut it close, spinning faster and faster as you leap from foot to foot, each leap higher and higher as the pace increases so does the beat of the music.

But you don't hear it.

You go through forms you don't know how you know. You contort into positions both astounding and entrancing and draw appreciative eyes form men and women alike. Little do you know but as you finish what you asusme to be five steps; your blade orbiting you mutliple times as you land from another acrobatic somersault... everyone is looking at you.

You really got carried away with the blending in thing.

You are swamped with cheeres and a blonde figure runs up and hugs you tight!

But looking over the shoulder of your fan,

"Vonderful! Vonderful! I see you are vasted o herr doctor!"

The fox eared man has stepped forth from the crowd. He shouts something to the band and music starts to play once again... you think you're being called out.

You gently prise her away and offer what you hope is a convincing smile as you do show. She looks over to fox man and gives you a big thumbs up before collecting money.

"Vill hold vhile you battle!"

Wait what?

The fox man is looking rather offended. In fact he and his... group? Would you call it a pack if only a couple of them are animal-people? Crew. Crew is a good word. He and his crew look positivley furious when you approach.

"Who the hells do you think you are coming into our town, on our festival and steal our spotlight!" A very physically imposing girl to the right of Fox man says.

As rational and unemotional as ever you try to explain "I just wanted to..."

"IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU WANT!" Fox man yells spitting in your face with the sheer volume of his offense. "This is the Festival of Fire and you come in here an outsider? And show up me; Tornin Firefoot!?"

"Uhm"

Let's do this here and now! He yells getting his crew into position.

Hona deposits some coins in your coinpurse and smiles at you. You can't help but be confused, "Wait are we going to fight?" Isn't that illegal?

He is literally as red as those stylish shoes he is wearing, one of the member sof his crew chuckles while a timid looking goat girl says; "it's a dance battle. Each team takes turns and tries to outperform the other...

AND ITS ON Foxman yells as his crew take up position.

You hear hona yelling something to the crowd behind you as you realize you may end up dancing in public AGAIN against some angry fox man who wants to embaress you in public in some kind of ritualised dance warfare.

The band begins to play a slow drum heavy beat and you feel the eyes of the whole town on you. Looing over your shoulder you see Hona and a few of her friends have arrayed themselves behind you in opposition to Fox Crew... Shiiiit.

(You did earn 80gp though)

ask if saws are allowed.
ask if it's the "Festival of Fire" then why isn't the spotlight is the Fire's but his?

"You go first Tornin. I want to see how this works. Can I call you Tor. He grins and holds up a number 3 which his comrades nod to. They then begin moving perfectly in sync, the biggest man moving as gracefully as the little goat girl. every expression of fierce joy a perfect mirror as their matched footsteps and even some slight acrobatics have the crowd applauding and "oohing"

"Hona how DOES this work? You ask.

"If you have never danced before ve vill be pretty much fucked! But Ve follow your lead as the actual battler in round 1! Ven it comes to round 2 it is you versus Tornin. She hesitates despite her chirpy voice she seems unsure. "Keep it simple and ve vill keep up. Ve can do some acorbatic stuff. But Ronald is a bt too old for such vings!"

"I believe in you... Uhm Friend! I vill need to learn name after battle!" But our turn coming soon!

You turn back in time to see a display of brilliance. Each member is moving forwards in backwards into each other's spaces with turns and spins. And for the finale the big bruiser launches Tornin at your team. He then makes a rather disrespectful gesture by spitting at your feet.

PICK 3

> A show of grace, time your steps to land with every beat of the big drum. Hand and upper body movements will be key. [MEDIUM]

> High speed dancing, you will attempt to show off your superior agility and flexibility. Fancy footwork all the way [MEDIUM]

> Co-operate with your team, give each member a bit of spotlight [???]

> DO WHAT YOU DID LAST TIME [HARD]

> Emulate the the individual portions of the dance from earlier. The people swarmed aorund the stage for those "crews" [ HARD]

[YOU FEEL A FLUTTERING IN YOUR STOMACH]

Moving slowly at first, you really hope your crew are in sync with you. You rotate you hips, spinning slowly as the band play their wood instruments, waiting for you moment.

BOOM
STOMP

Your foot connects as the man sized drum is struck. Timing it impeccably. You continue, lifting your other foot as you work in a martial arts esque stance. You're focused, you can feel the night air on your skin. The beads of sweat on your forehead. The breathe escaping from you mouth. The smell of smoke and food as you await that one moment.

BOOM
STOMP

You dance. you upper body a slowly unfurling web of intricate movement. Your partners following your lead. Your wrists calll for the viewers' attention, your hips show your grace and mastery of the human form and you feet begin to speed up as the tempo picks up.

BOOM
STOMP

You bend almost in half backwards and pose.

BOOM
STOMP

You spin thrice and interlock hands with the woman alongside you.

BOOM
STOMP

You pause and you spin backwards allowing Ronald to take your place. The older man moves forward and kicks, again and again. Seemingly impossibly staying in a seated position he kicks in a perfect rhythym 1-2 1-2. You have no idea how but you find your teamataes all able to mimic this dance...

Then Hona moves forward as Ronald retreats. Her hips gyrate, her legs move with a life of their own as she licks her lips and challenges all comers with tempting gestures. Nobody dares take your team up on Hona's challenge...

Your final member attempts to improvise and it kind of falls flat - so you step in. And you emulate the dance you saw from the rooftops.

You're greeted with a roar of approval from the crowd. Skipping from side to side with three steps per landing. You raise on arm, then the other. Then spin and kick high. throwing in a bit of modification you spin out of the final move and spit at Tonin's feet.

"Is this traditional you ask? As he seethes.

A circle of fire appears around him and his crew cheers.

"looks like you're not so special after all Lavender - forfeit before I destroy you in round two."

Hona comes over panting getting between the two of you and seperating with her body; "No forfeiting! All of us will be shamed! And She isn't scared of you!

He snorts and backs off five paces, as do you. There are four torches being lit, the arena is 20ft squared and the torches are as high as some small buildings. Round 2 is about to begin.

You remove your top layer as Tornin removes his shirt shoes and scarf.

You both dance at the same time, the music is lost to your ears as you feel a strange enegry in your body. Like somehting is fueling you and driving you to be better than this man. You move your body in a way you never knew you could, your belly moving from side to side and up and down in ways you've never even considered. Whilst your oponnent begins to girnd against you. For a time it remains as such, you doing you belly dancing? He doing his... you don't have a word for it.

You then dance together. Moving in sync you almost waltz around each other as the sky splits into rain from seemingly nowhere. You two seem to have forgotten all animosity as he holds you close and you spin form his arms/ You reunite and are face to face for but a moment, it looks as if he considers kissing you despite all the fury in him.

You break off and acrobatically somersault towards the corner of the arena. The crowd still speechless from the get go.

You press your back to the torch bearing pillar, as you see Tornin showing his airborne skill. You have an edge though...
You flip back and feel your feet connect to the wood solidly. Holding yourself horizontal, you continue to dance making your way higher and higher and higher. Spins and tap dancing and the traditional dances you picked up earlier all pushing you to the apex of the tower...

There, you let your buzzsaws rest in the fire. Something guiding you to do so. The blades catch fire, but take no damage, in fact they seem sharper and more brilliant because of it. You leap backwards doing your best to hide the two circles of fire.

You land with a splash and rise, letting your blades fly out to each side. You must look like something from a folk tale, burning blades in a dance battle with an arrogant upstart who claims The Festival of Fire for himself.

"If this is the festival of fire Tornin.... You begin YOUR style of dance. The forms which are second nature to you, the killing blows of a seasoned fighter a spectacle. Walls of fire surround you as your pace increases; Tornin and the band have stopped as you wrap yourself in orange and crimson. Wires snapping and relaxing with such speed even you're beginning to lose track of your blades. "Then this was never your spotlight! You cry trying depserately to hold onto what little breath you still have in your one woman inferno.

You slam your blades into the ground and the hundrreds of torches of the festival go out.

All is dark except from your blades and you spin; one rotation with all the force you can muster.
The rain is gone; leaving traces of steam in the air and the night as calm as it was before the dancing. Your blades are extinguised. But the four pillars have been relit.

A circle of fire ignites around you.

You are damn proud of what you did. You just beat this little bastard at his own game.

Your Buzzsaw hasn't changed at all. Though it is back to it's default form. You feel yourself get tackled from behind and see a mess of Blond hair over your shoulder. You look at Hona and for the first time since that hill with the tree... you crack a facial expression.
