Far off, nestled in an otherwise small Japanese town lies the Dark Gate Academy. An institution of tremendous size, the Academy holds a long kept secret. Unknown to the outside world, this unseemly town is home to a tear in our reality. A gate between our world and a bizarre dimension known as the Darkworld. The inhabitants of this hellish world breach this gate and attempt to flood into our reality and spread throughout the world on a regular basis. However, the Dark Gate Academy is home to students of truly extraordinary abilities. The ability to sense the presence of these evil Darkworld creatures, and defeat them in combat, sending them back through the gate.

They cannot close the rift between our world and the Darkworld, but the students and staff of Dark Gate Academy have dedicated their lives to using their amazing powers to hold back the darkness that plagues our world, even if it costs them their lives. They have risen up to the challenge and in secret have become great heroic defenders of the world as we know it.

For many years, Dark Gate Academy has held back the forces of the Darkworld, kept this unspeakable evil contained within their walls. But a dark cloud approaches, and times are about to change. A new chapter in the tale of Dark Gate Academy is about to begin.

“Alice, do you care explaining yourself?”

Reiji is the only one who speaks up as the rest of the room stares at the smiling Alice. “What do you mean, we could kill Ryoji?”

“What?” Alice asks.

“I'm not doing your absent minded routine,” Reiji sighs. “Just give us an answer. Why is it likely that we'll kill Ryoji?”

Alice places a finger to her chin. “Well... when you get a demon, it becomes a part of you. You are it, and it is you and... there's no way to get rid of it.”

Saki's eyes widen. “W-what? But... there must be some way, right? Come on Alice, you can talk to your demon, right? What does it have to say-”

“My demon's the one that's talking right now!” Alice laughs. “I'm just saying what she says!”

“Explains why you're a little more coherent than usual,” Reiji mutters. “So what your saying is that we can't separate Ryoji from The Stranger, or you from The Dreamer...”

“Yep!” Alice exclaims.

“And to remove the demon would mean...”

“The death of the host!” Alice nods. “That's how it goes!”

Saki hangs her head low. “That's not going to happen...” she mutters.

“It might!” Alice grins, placing her hands on her hips.

“No. It won't,” Saki replies in an angered tone. “We're not going to kill Ryoji. We're going to find him, we're going to bring him back, and then we'll find a way to safely expel the Stranger later down the line.”

“Saki, how can we do that? The Stranger is currently in control of Ryoji's body...” Reiji says.

“Well... we'll make it relinquish control!”

“But how can we-”

“We'll find a way!”

“How do you know-”

“Because we have to!” Saki snaps at him. She lets out a sigh as she places her head in her hands. “I'm sorry Reiji... just, let's get to working on the tome for now. And you guys...”

She points her finger towards you and Mayu. “I'll let you guys know when we've cracked it and we can move into our next order of business. For now, I need to speak with Alice some more. You two try to get as much sleep as you can, you have classes in four hours.”

She's pretty naïve thinking that you're going to attend classes today and not just sleep through them. But you suppose that is the mindset of an honour student. You look over to Alice, who is staring out the clubroom's window. You let out a sigh, knowing you'll have to have an uncomfortable conversation with her at some point later on. But for now, you need to head back to your dorm.

As you step out of the room and begin to walk down the hall, Mayu speaks up. “She's very attached to the demon boy.”

“Ryoji?” you ask. “I mean... he's her boyfriend. Obviously she cares about his well-being.”

“It's pointless,” Mayu states. “If he's possessed by a demon, isn't he already dead? To remove a great evil like that is worth sacrificing a single human life.”

“Pretty cold way to look at it, don't you think?” you ask.

“If I were possessed by one of those, I would like for you to kill me,” Mayu mutters.

“Me specifically?” you joke.

“No, just anyone. In fact, I would rather someone else other than yourself carry out the job. I'm sure you'd take some satisfaction from the act,” Mayu replies.

“What about Alice?” you ask, crossing your arms. “Do you think we should kill her?”

“Not now,” Mayu answers. “But some day we may have to.”

The rest of the walk back to the dorms is done in silence. As you enter, Mayu begins to make her way to her room before stopping. “What of you, Kazuma?”

“Huh?”

Mayu sighs. “It's rude to listen to someone's views without responding with your own. Do you agree with me or do you wish to challenge me? I'm sure you disagree with me on the subject of these Archdemons, and you're just too afraid to say so.”

You've never been afraid of saying what's on your mind. You're sure that Mayu just said that to get a rise out of you and have you speak up. The worst part is that it's working.

>We're not killing anyone, Mayu. It's not a price I'm willing to pay.
>I don't like it... but we might have to if it means destroying the demons.
>I don't care, Mayu. I'll follow wherever the wind goes.

"There's no 'we' here," Mayu replies. "If you have any hesitations, I'll do it myself."

"We're supposed to be a team here," you state.

"We're not," Mayu fires back. "Still... it is good to know that we are on the same page here. Just so you're aware... I don't like it either."

"Really?" you ask.

Mayu sighs. "Do you honestly think I would enjoy killing someone? I'm willing, but I take no pleasure from it. Even if that person is a monster, it's still a life... tonight was horrible, Kazuma. I would much rather never have to do anything like this again."

There's a brief pause between the two of you, as you have no idea what to say. Why is she opening up to you like this? She hates you. Does this bother her so much that she needs to say it to someone, even a guy she absolutely despises?

"Goodnight Kazuma," Mayu nods, as she returns to her room for the night.

You let out a sigh as you enter your own room, only to be greeted by a unexpected yet familiar face. "Oh hey Kaz!" your room-mate Chuichi smiles, sitting in his chair next to the bed-side desk. "I was wondering where you had gotten to!"

"Chuichi?" you raise an eyebrow. "When did you get back from your summer vacation?"

"Like an hour ago," Chuichi replies. "I slept on the ride here, so I'm kinda gonna pull an all-nighter until classes start. Hope you don't mind dude."

"That's fine," you reply with a yawn.

"So, who were you talking to out in the hall?" Chuichi asks. "Sounded like Mayu."

"It was," you reply.

Chuichi nods. "Huh... well, I don't want to accuse you two of anything, but the fact that it's this early in the morning and you two were out together... dude, you know I'm into her right?"

"What?" you shake your head and wave your arms. "No, you've got it all wrong. We were just taking care of club-related... stuff. It's confusing, a lot happened in a very short space of time, I'll explain it all later."

"Or..." Chuichi smirks as he grabs a can of some energy drink and tosses it to you. "You can tell me all about it now. Join the all-nighter. It's only a few hours until classes start anyway, what good is a few hours of sleep going to do you?"

You shrug. You were planning on sleeping through classes anyway, what's another hour of staying up and chatting with Chuichi? You haven't seen him since the beginning of summer, after all.

>Sure, I'll stay up with you.

You crack open the can of energy drink. It tastes awful, but you'll probably need it to stay awake. "Awesome," Chuichi smiles. "So, how was your summer?"

"Spent it here," you reply.

"Aw man, that sucks..." Chuichi frowns. "What, you didn't visit your mom?"

"No..." you reply. "It's fine, Kiriko stayed up with me, so I wasn't alone."

Chuichi shrugs. "If you say so. Personally, I would kill to visit the big city. You are from the city right?"

"Yeah." You grew up in the city of Kingudoro, a bustling industrial area. Every day there was hectic as all hell, like everyone was moving on fast-forward. You couldn't imagine the boredom that would come with small town life, thankfully this small town has more than enough going on to keep you interested. "That reminds me, didn't you live in town? Where were you all Summer?"

"What kind of vacation would it be if I spent it at home?" Chuichi laughs. "I was visiting some cousins of mine."

"So, how were the first day of term?" Chuichi asks. "I can't believe you guys are still doing that little club thing."

You nods. "That's the thing... it's not just a little club thing anymore. We actually hit something big."

"Oh, and what's that?" Chuichi asks, on the edge of his seat.

Well, this is the part he was waiting for. Everything until this was just small-talk, Chuichi wanted to know what you were doing tonight. Why you were out in the hall with his crush this early in the morning. You take a deep breath, and relay everything that's happened to Chuichi.

"Whoa..." he gasps as you finish up. "That's... pretty awesome. So Alice was a demon the whole time?"

"Yeah, but she's good... I think."

"And there was a secret cult in my own hometown?" Chuichi laughs.

"Yeah."

"And a murder?" Chuichi shakes his head. "That's a lot to take in at once, dude."

You shrug. "Yeah, it really was. And our job isn't over yet. We're still waiting for this Reiji guy to examine the tome."

"And then another daring trip, I guess?" Chuichi smirks. "Sounds cool, but also dangerous. Can't say I envy you."

Chuichi takes a last gulp of his energy drink and slams it to the desk. "You know what this all-nighter needs, dude?" he asks.

"To end-"

"More people!" Chuichi laughs. "We should invite Mayu and Kiriko over! They're still awake, I'm sure."

"I don't know about that," you sigh. "Mayu really doesn't like me."

"Well, I really like her," Chuichi fires back. "But if you don't want her around, we can always bother someone else. Let's make a party of this thing! What do you think?"

>Sure, let's invite Mayu and Kiriko.

Chuichi pumps his fist. "Yes, I knew you'd be on-board! Let's go get them!"

The two of you exit out into the hallway and make your way two doors down. Chuichi steps aside and smirk, offering for you to knock on the door first. Probably a better move. Mayu may hate you, but Kiriko's like family to you. You being the one making the invitation seems okay, whereas if Chuichi was the one to come knocking he would look like some pervert who just wants to hit on girl in the early hours of the morning.

The door swings open as you are greeted by a sleepy Mayu, rubbing the tiredness from her eyes, and standing before you in her pajamas. You never would have expected her to be the yellow polka dots type. She takes one look at you, before looking down at what she's wearing, and slams the door. Huh, despite her cold exterior, she can get embarrassed pretty easily. The door creaks open once again, as this time Mayu simply pokes her head out. "What do you two want?" she asks.

"We were wondering if you and Kiriko wanted to hang out in our room for a while," you say, scratching the back of your head. "We've got energy drinks and are staying up until class. You want to join in?"

"What? That sounds awesome!" Kiriko's voice calls out from her bed. You hear the bedsprings shift as Kiriko scrambles to her feet and rushes to the door. She swings it wide open and grabs the embarrassed Mayu by the wrist. "Come on!" she yells, dragging her into your room.

You and Chuichi follow. You plop yourseld down on the side of the bottom bunk, as Kiriko sits herself next to you. Chuichi takes his spot on the chair by the bed-side desk.

"Where will I sit?" Mayu asks.

"Well, you can always sit on someone's knee," Chuichi replies, giving her a wink.

"Oh... I'll stand," she mutters.

There's a brief awkward silence, before Chuichi tries to make conversation. "Hey Mayu, want to hear a joke?"

"Absolutely not."

"Well... here it goes," Chuichi replies, continuing with the joke anyway. "So a horse walks into a bar-"

"That could be dangerous," Mayu interrupts. "Horses are known to be very skittish, and can act rashly. A scared horse could cause a lot of damage in a small enclosed space like that, particularly one that is filled with various pieces of glassware."
>>
Chuichi sighs. "Well... for the purpose of the joke, it doesn't do any of that. So the horse walks up to the bar, and the bartender says 'Why the long face?'"

"That's not the first thing I would say if a horse entered my establishment," Mayu replies. "This bartender needs to work on his priorities. And what a foolish question to ask. All horses have long faces in comparison to humans."

"Yes, that's the joke-"

"It wasn't a very good one," Mayu replies.

"Oh..." Chuichi lets out another sigh. "You look very cute in your pajamas."

"Are you attempting to sexually harass me?" Mayu blurts out in an overly blunt manner.

"W-what? No! That... that's just a normal thing to say!" Chuichi protests. "Come on Kaz, doesn't she look cute in that outfit?"

>Yes. Very cute.

"Stop it," Mayu glares at you, embarrassed. She's fully clothed from head to toe, but she's still trying to cover herself with her hands as if she's been caught in the nude. "I am not appreciating this harassment."

Kiriko giggles happily. "Come on, Mayu! You look adorable! I picked those pajamas out for her, by the way!"

Ah, that explains it. Mayu wouldn't wear something like that usually, but she'd wear anything Kiriko gets for her.

"Kiriko... I am not adorable," Mayu says with a stern face, but it's hard for her to hide how flattered she is by Kiriko's comment. She's still trying to stay angry at you and Chuichi for your comments... which were the same comment. Funny how that works.

"Okay, I think we're getting off on the wrong foot here," Chuichi chuckles. "How about I make it up to you? Since I've embarrassed you enough, I'll treat you to a trip to the movies after class!"

"I don't like movies," Mayu replies.

"Okay, we'll grab coffee!"

"I don't like coffee."

"Well, is there anything you do like?" Chuichi asks.

Mayu pauses, thinking. "The movies will be fine... be Kiriko will have to come too."

"Oh... sure, the more the merrier!" Chuichi replies.

"Then we can't forget about Kaz!" Kiriko laughs, patting you on the back. Damn, you wished they would forget about you. Watching this is already awkward enough. You don't need a repeat.

"Then, it's settled!" Kiriko yells. "The four of us are going to the movies together! It's going to be-"

Kiriko is interrupted by banging on the wall coming from the other room. A very angry Roka's voice calls out. "Would you idiots shut up? Some people are trying to sleep!"

Kiriko huffs and kicks the wall in turn. "What are you complaining about?! You need to get up for school in about twenty minutes anyway, you big ape!"

"I like the last twenty minutes of sleep!" Roka fires back, pounding on the wall once more. "The last twenty minutes are the best part!"

"Looks like someone's mad he didn't get invited..." Chuichi laughs. "Still, we should have tried to be a little quieter... oh well. We'll keep it down next time."

"There is no next time," Mayu mutters.

Chuichi shrugs. "Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. You going to get ready for class, Kaz?"

That's right... class. You're tired as hell, but it's still a schoolday. Sure, you can sleep through the classes, but there's no substituting for a nice warm bed..."

>I guess I'll have to. Let's get moving.

Kiriko and Mayu return to their rooms, but not before Kiriko has to be talked out of kicking Roka's door down and picking a fight, as you and Chuichi get prepared for classes. You're still tired as hell, but a quick cup of coffee can keep you going long enough to fall asleep through Takeshi's next lesson. The four of you make your way to the main school building, and make your way up two flight of stairs until you reach your lockers, standing just outside of the homeroom class. Kiriko pulls a small envelope and slots it through the hole in Roka's locker.

"What's that about?" You ask.

"Just a prank I've been pulling since last term," Kiriko smirks. "I've been sneaking what look like love letters from a secret admirer into his locker at the beginning of every school day. They're cut up into the shape of pink hearts and stuff, but the actual writing is just many descriptions of his terrible body odour. Since he can't read them, and since he's not willing to show them to anyone else, he just holds onto them thinking he's got an admirer."

"Wow, that's... cruel," you remark. "I like it."

"Thanks!" Kiriko grins. "I think it's really going to pay off in the long run!"

"Good morning, Kazuma!" you hear Io call out as she bounces down the hall. You're surprised that she seems in such a chipper mood this morning, considering your earlier conversation with her ended on an uncomfortable note.

"Oh, hey Io..." You mutter. "Look, about what I said bef-"

"Who cares?" Io laughs. "It's nothing important! I've forgotten about it already!"

"Oh..." you reply, crossing your arms, as Io reaches into her back.

"I've got something for you..." Io says, as she rummages inside the stacked bag, before finally pulling out a long black sleeve. "It's an arm-warmer, just like mine! I figured you'd want to wear it so people won't stare at your hideous burn all day."

"Oh... thanks..." you reply.

"That'll be 500 yen," Io smirks. "Ha... just kidding! Kidding..."

"Well... thanks," you sigh. "I guess it wouldn't hurt to wear this while my arm's healing up."

"Speaking of," Io adds. "Have you seen the school nurse about that yet?"

You shake your head. "Nah, it seems fine."

"Kazuma, your arm is burned!" Io pouts. "You can't have that much of a lax attitude."

"Io, we all have super-powers, a little burn is going to do me much harm," you fire back.

"Still, you absolutely should go see Tekina about that right now!"

"Did someone say Tekina?!" Takeshi startles you as he enters the conversation. "Kazuma, I demand that you go see the school nurse, a-and as your homeroom teacher, it's my duty to escort you there!"

>Takeshi, please... no. I can go by myself.

>Fine, you can bring me to the nurse's office. Just... don't be weird with her.

"W-weird?" Takeshi lets out a nervous chuckle "Why would I be we-oh no... I'm going to be weird, aren't I? I-I can't be weird, how could she love me if I be weird?"

Takeshi begins panicking and breathing heavily as you shake your head. "Calm down Takeshi, you'll be fine."

"No, I won't! You told me not to be weird, now I'm definitely going to be weird because the idea of me being weird is going to be stuck in my head!" Takeshi clutches his head and falls to his knees in agony. "Why god, why did you make me like this?!"

You sigh. "Dude, you were going to be weird anyway."

"I... I was?" Takeshi asks.

"Yes. You're always weird," you reply.

Takeshi picks himself up of the ground and grins a wide smile. "That's a relief! I was worried there for a second! Thanks for talking sense back into me buddy!"

You did? That's not what you were trying to do. "Again, I'm your student, not you bud-whatever. Let's just go."

Takeshi rushes ahead of you on your way to the nurse's office, his eagerness matched only by his nervousness. You're surprised he isn't leaving a long puddle of sweat in his wake. By the time you make it to the door, Takeshi is standing outside, his arm shaking and shivering as it grips the handle.

"27... 28..." he mutters to himself.

"Takeshi, are you going to open it, or..."

"D-don't worry Kaz, this is just a ritual of mine," Takeshi explains. "29... 30. Okay, now I'm ready."

Takeshi swings the door open, and the two of you enter to see Nurse Tekina handling several jars of differently coloured liquids. She turns her head and smiles as you enter. "Good morning, Takeshi! I'd hug you right now, but I have my hands full with this experiment!"

"Haha, y-yeah..." Takeshi mumbles. "I-I still remember the last time we hugged mid-experiment."

"I warned you about that phosphoric acid!" Tekina laughs. "So what brings you here today?"

"O-oh, just dropping a student off. Got a bad burn on his arm."

"Oh Takeshi, you didn't start another fire in class, did you?" Tekina sighs.

"What?!" Takeshi protests. "No! No no... well, yes. But nobody got caught in it!"

"Well, I'll take a look at it right now," Tekina replies. "By the way Takeshi, I'm not busy during lunch. Do you want to have lunch together today?"

"W-w-what?"

"Just like old times!" Tekina smiles. "Do you want to?"

"I... uh... well... see... that's... umm... wow..." Takeshi is completely lost for words.

>He'd love to.

Tekina smiles. "Oh, excellent! It'll be just like when we were studying together. You know, sometimes I think we haven't changed at all since those days!"

"Y-you're even more beautiful..." Takeshi mumbles, low enough that Tekina can't hear it.

Tekina sets down the beakers on her table and motions for you to sit on the edge of one of the beds. Takeshi remembers that he's supposed to be taking a class right now and rushes out of the room, tripping over himself as he does. You hop up on the edge of the bed and hold out your right arm as Tekina examines it. "Hmm... yes, this is pretty bad, but it's nothing disastrous," she smiles. "I have just the ointment for it."

Tekina runs to her drawer, and pulls out a tube. She dabs some of the ointment on her gloved hand as she begins to rub it into your arm. "Okay... and now we just need something to cover up and protected the infected area..."

"One of my classmates gave me this armwarmer..." you mention.

Tekina smiles and clasps her hand together. "Oh, that is just adorable! But also completely ineffectual! Don't worry, I have some gauze to wrap your arm in! Still... you should thank your friend for the nice gift."

"They aren't really my friend..." you mutter.

"Well... they should be!" Tekina laughs as she begins to wrap your arm in gauze. "And... there we are! All sorted! Now, off you go to class. You can never neglect the importance of an education. I never missed a day of classes in my life, no matter how ill I was!"

You step out into the hallway and make your way back to the classroom. The most of Takeshi's lesson is standard, ignore-able fare. You do make note of two things, though. Firstly, Alice isn't in class today. She must still be getting re-adjusted to being back. And secondly, a certain wannabe detective decided to show up.

As the bell rings for first break, Anri approaches you, your red jacket in hand. "This is yours," he says as you take it from him. "I told you I would return it."

"You sticking around for the rest of the day?" you ask. "We have a club meeting during lunch."

Anri shakes his head. "No, I'm going to continue my independent research."

You shake your head. It would be real nice of him to fill you in on what this independent research is. For all his pointing the finger at everyone else, he sure is suspicious himself.

>Are you at least sticking around during break? I'd like to learn more about you.

>Are you at least sticking around during break? I'd like to learn more about you.

Anri pauses. "Well... you did save my life," he sighs. "I suppose it would be rude of me not to oblige you. Is there something you want to ask me?"

"Well for starters, why is your hair blue today?" you ask.

"Excuse me?" Anri asks.

"Your hair," you repeat. "Last night, it was green. Today, it's blue... and now that I think about it, your hair was black on our first day..."

Anri shakes his head. "I dye my hair a different shade every few days."

"What's your natural colour?" you ask.

"That's not for you to know."

"Why do you dye it?"

"That's not for you to know."

"Hiding your identity or something?"

"No."

He lift yourself out of your chair. "Something tells me it's going to be hard to get anything out of you."

"You'd be right."

"So what about this investigation of yours?" you ask as the two of you step out into the school's hallway. "Who are your key suspects?"

"Why do you think I'd share that with you?" Anri asks.

You shrug. "You said it yourself last night. Our investigation is now your investigation. I thought you might want to share at least a little."

"I currently have two prime suspects within the class," Anri mutters after a long, thoughtful pause. "The first is Tsuki Takudo."

Just hearing the name makes you groan. That creep who was moments away from groping Kiriko back in your first term. "Why him?"

"According to those I've questioned, he and the victim never got along, and his attitude towards being questioned came off as suspicious at best," Anri explains.

"Nobody gets along with Tsuki," you say, trying to rationalise the points. "And he has a bad attitude towards anything. Still, he is the most morally corrupt in the class."

"Morality is a social construct," Anri cuts in. "A person's supposed morality has no bearing on their potential guilt."

"Okay, who's the second suspect?"

"Tami Kajitani," Anri replies.

Damn... one of the club members. "And your reason?"

"She has the means to carry out the murder of Yasunari due to her love for hunting, and it's clear from last night that she has no qualms with granting someone a gory death. It's far from concrete, and I have no evidence to suggest she had reason to kill Yasunari, but she's one of the view I believe is capable of killing him."

>You know, there is something off about Tami. I'd be very cautious around her.
>No, I trust her. She's part of my club, she's not a killer.

>What about me? Am I on your suspect list?

Anri nods. "Yes. Of course you are. The entire class is on my suspect list. I'm not ruling a single one of you out... but you're low enough on my list that I'm willing to trust you with this information, however little it is."

The bell rings, signalling the end of first break. Anri stares at you. "Well, I'll be going now."

"Wait, just like that?" you ask. "Can you at least tell me who's lowest on your list?"

"Kiriko," Anri replies. "I said I'm not ruling any of you out, but I can say with almost certainty that Kiriko didn't do it. She's perhaps the single most trustworthy person I've met."

Huh, now that's some serious praise for Kiriko. And not something you expected to hear with Anri. Who knows, maybe he has a crush on her, maybe it's clouding his judgement? Before you even get a proper chance to say bye, Anri has already made his way down the corridor, unwilling to stick around for too long.

You make your way back to class with a sigh, pre-emptively putting on headphones in order to doze off during Takeshi's lesson. It's not long before sitting down at your desk and setting your head down that you end up drifting off into sleep.

"Kazuma..."

"Dad?"

"Kazuma... you still have the stone?"

"The stone...? Y-yes... I do..."

"You can't let him have it."

"Can't let who-"

"You have to kill him, Kazuma."

"Dad? What? I'm supposed to-"

"You have to kill him!"

You wake up in shock, raising you head from your desk and immediately losing balance in your chair and falling to the floor.

"Kazuma, are you okay?" Takeshi asks, surprised.

You jerk your head back and forth, trying to shake of the spinning dizziness in your head. "I'm fine..." you mutter.

"You might be dehydrated," Takeshi suggest. "Someone take Kaz to grab some water. Uhh... you, Risa! You're his friend, I think! Help your friend out!"

Risa shrugs as she rises from her chair and helps you to your feet. She slings your arm over her shoulder as she basically drags you out into the hallway. "What happened there?" she asks. "You're looking really pale."

>I... saw my dad.

Risa gives you a suspicious look. "Ok... you definitely need to get some water."

Risa leads you to the end of the hallway. She sets you down in a chair next to the hallway's vending machine and begins to insert change. "So... you saw your dad. That's not worrying at all. Was it in a dream, a hallucination, or did you see him at the window smiling waving in? That last one would have be especially creepy seeing as we're on the third floor."

"And my dad never smiled," you reply. "And it was in a dream."

"I see... you have this dream a lot?" she asks, as she makes the order on the machine. The bottle of water plops down to the bottom and as she bends down to pick it up... damn, you can't help yourself from staring. That skirt is just too short.

"A lot of the time, but in those one..." you mutter as Risa hands you the bottle of water with a smile. "In this one he was saying something different. He said that someone would try to take the stone..."

"What, that blue thing on your necklace?" Risa asks.

"Yeah... it might be magic," you explain. "It acted up during one trip to the Darkworld, but it hasn't done anything since."

"Okay, what else did your dream ghost dad tell you?"

"He told me to kill the man who tries to take it. He said I had to..."

"So your dreams are telling you to kill people now?" Risa smirks. "Now I really am worried about you, Kaz."

"You're worried about me?" you ask.

"Yeah, of course," Risa shrugs. "Hard not to be worried when my classmate collapses during class. I know I'm not the most open person on the planet, but that doesn't mean I don't like you guys. Besides... we're kinda friends, right?"

>Yeah, of course we are.

Risa places her hands on her hips as she stands over you. "Yeah, I figured. I just wanted to hear it directly from you."

As you gulp down on the water in the bottle, Risa places herself in the chair next to you. "How's your head. You took a nasty spill back there."

"I think I'm fine, I-hey!" you exclaims, as Risa pushes your head forward, as she examines you looking for any bumps or bruises. "Warn me when you're going to do that next time, you're gonna break my neck!"

Risa pulls your head back. "Don't worry, you're fine. I just had to check, like the good friend that I am."

She smirks as you shake your head. "Look, Risa... what do you think of the dream I had."

"I... don't think anything of it," Risa replies. "You had a dream. That's it. What, you think it's some kind of spooky vision, a deadly premonition? Come on, it's just a dream."

"Yeah... but my dad always told me that in this crazy world, if it seems real, it probably is."

"Really?" Risa scoffs. "Well my dad always told me that you should believe anything until you can hold it in your hands."

You chuckle lightly to yourself.

"What's so funny?" Risa asks.

"Guess who just shared part of her life with me," you say with a wide smirk.

Risa eyes widen, as she rises from the chair. "Okay... you got me. I told you a little about myself. But that little is all you're going to get, okay?"

"We'll see about that," you laugh.

The bell rings, signalling time for lunch. "Are you fine to move on your own?" Risa asks.

"Yeah, I am," you reply. "Go enjoy lunch, I'll see you in the clubroom soon."

Risa nods and makes her way down the corridor. The club meeting is during the second half of lunch, so you should probably find a place to hang out for the first part.

>Library

You aren't exactly much of a reader, but you figure the library might be a good place to relax and to gather your thoughts after what transpired during class. You make your way down the stairway to the bottom floor of the academy, and casually stride into a very large and very, very empty looking library. There's a blue haired girl with her nose in a book at the front desk. You clear your throat in order to get her attention.

The girl looks up from the book to stare at you. "Yes?"

"I was just planning on... looking around," you answer.

The girl raises an eyebrow. "Okay... you don't have to tell me that. You don't have to grab my permission or anything. You just... look around."

"Yeah."

"You do understand how libraries work, right?"

"... Yes."

The girl gives you a sideways glance. "Did you hit your head before coming here?"

"Yes, actually," you answer.

The girl shakes her head. "Whatever. Just look around all you want and if you see something you like, come up here to loan it out. Of course, nobody ever returns the books they loan. At least Saki has the courtesy to extend the loan every week..."

"You know Saki?" you ask.

"Yeah, she's my classmate," the librarian answers. "I'm a friend of hers. Kinda... I mean, we're not that close, but we get along."

"Does Saki have a lot of friends?" you ask. "She's been working with my club, and I was just curious about her. She seems very lonely."

"You should have seen her at the start of the year," the librarian remarks. "She used to have nobody at all. Now, she's got plenty of friends."

"Still..." you mutter, "Considering what happened with her boyfriend... it must suck not having someone like that around."

The librarian lets out a sigh as she turns her attention back to her book. "Yes, it must be terrible..."

You make your way into the library and begin looking around for anything that catches your interest. And something does. Not a book... but a girl. A solitary girl, sitting at one of the tables at the very back of the library, almost completely hidden away. You recognise her from your class. Her name is Kaiya... something, you don't remember. She never really interacts with anyone else, and has always just given off this strange... for some reason terrifying aura.

You always wondered where she spent her lunchtimes. What's weird though is that she isn't even reading a book. There's a stack of books on the table, yes, but none in her hand. She's just sitting there, staring off into nothing. You're sightly hesitant to approach her. You don't know what she's like and she may not appreciate being interrupted in the middle of... whatever the hell she's doing.

>Go over to her.

What's the harm in trying to make a little conversation, right? Well... in the case of someone like Roka or Saw or really most of you class, there can be some actual harm in a conversation gone wrong... still, you doubt that Kaiya is that bad. And yet... despite her somewhat harmless appearance and disarming stance, you can't help but feel strangely inexplicably afraid of her.

You walk up to her and try to introduce yourself. She doesn't pay attention to your presence, instead simply staring into the distance. "Hey... Kaiya, right?"

No answer.

"Uhh... we're in the same class. Kazuma Asai?"

No answer.

"I don't think we've ever got the chance to talk before..."

No answer.

"So... a lot of books here. You read all of them?"

No answer.

"Okay... I guess you don't want to be disturbed. I get it, I'll just leave-"

"The mountain crumbles and the prince of words returns," she interrupts.

"Uhh... excuse me?"

Kaiya doesn't look at you as she continues to speak. You soon realise that's she's not talking to you, but rather to herself. "The man with no past finds his future, and the girl with no mind finds her heart."

Wait, those last two sound familiar... something similar was written within those order books... "Hey Kaiya, can you explain what you're talking about?" you ask, but she's off in her own world. She stands up, ignoring you as she makes her way out of the library, you walking close behind in the hopes of pulling at least a single word out of her. But no... she just carries on as if you weren't even there. As she exits the library, you let out a sigh. "What an odd girl..." you say to yourself.

"Girl?" the librarian raises her head from the book. "What are you talking about?"

"The girl that just left," you reply. "You know, with the blonde hair? The vacant stare? The weird mumblings?"

The librarian flashes you a confused look. "But... there was no girl in here..."

What? But you could have sworn... wait, does this mean that she was a... a gho-

The librarian snorts and burst into laughter. "Oh wow, I actually had you going for a second there!"

"What?"

"I was joking with you! That's Kaiya Ki, she should be in your year. Weird girl. She just hangs out in the back of the library, and rarely even reads a book. She just sits there and mumbles to herself. Pretty creepy when you're in a big empty library and she's the only one in there with you. Sounds like the beginning of a horror story."

You shake your head. "I can't believe I actually started to think she was a ghost..."

"Guess I'm a better actor than I thought," she remarks. "I'm Hikaru, by the way. Hikaru Shirai."

"Kazuma. Kazuma Asai."

"Asai, huh?" Hikaru smirks. "As in Kankuro Asai, who used to teach here?"

>Yeah, I'm his son.

Hikaru chuckles to herself. "Wow... Akio is going to hate you..."

You raise an eyebrow. "What?"

Hikaru shuts the book closed. "Oh, my boyfriend... he's got this obsession with being the absolute best fighter ever. Since that title currently belongs to your dad, he's kind of what you'd call a fanboy. Trust me, if you meet him when he gets back, expect him to yell a lot of crap at you about being your rival and working to be better than you in every way and bla bla bla... he's really cute like that."

"Get back?" you ask. "Where is he now? Still on his summer vacation?"

"He's... training," Hikaru replies with a sigh.

"Training? Where's he train-"

"Look, I don't have to answer all these questions," Hikaru replies in a frustrated tone. "It's not something you have to worry about."

"Okay..." you mutter as you step out of the library. It's about time you went to the your club meeting. You head back up the stairwell and make your way down the corridor to the clubroom. As you open the clubroom door, you are greeted by a new face sitting at the table. An unfamiliar face, but a very lovely one. Sitting at the table, with her hands placed politely and patiently on her lab, is one of the most stunningly beautiful and graceful girls you've ever seen.

"Oh? Did someone new enter?" the girl asks, her eyes shut.

"Yeah," you answer. "I'm Kazuma. Kazuma Asai."

You approach her and hold you hand out in offer of a handshake, but the girl doesn't react.

"She's blind, you dummy!" Sae yells from the corner of the room. "Stop waving your hand in front of her!"

"Oh... sorry," you mutter, embarrassed.

"It's quite alright Kazuma," the girl smiles. "It's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Sayeka. Sayeka Ohko."

"Oh... so you're the one who can see the future?" you ask. "Saki mentioned you."

Sayeka smiles. "Yes, that's me. I'm sure you have a lot of questions for me upon hearing that. I'm afraid I cannot tell you your future, Kazuma. To make you aware of the path you're on is always guaranteed to change it, and not always for the better."

That's fine, the question you have for her doesn't regard the future at all.

>How close were you to this Ryoji guy?

Sayeka pauses in thought. "He was... a close friend. I'm not sure that will be the case in the future."

You raise an eyebrow. "What do you mean? You guys have a falling out before he disappeared?"

Sayeka shakes her head. "No... it's my fault that he's gone."

"Excuse me?" you ask.

"In out battle with the Archdemon, I saw numerous potential futures. All of them horrific. But the outcome in which Ryoji was trapped within the Darkworld was the best of many horrible choices. And so... I lied to him. I told him that the only option would be to feed his Archdemon, and I refused to tell him what would come after. I deceived Ryoji and sacrificed him for the sake of saving the lives of the others. I don't know if he'll ever be able to forgive me..."

Well, that's a pretty heavy answer. You can tell that Sayeka has a lot of heavy things on her mind, and her condition couldn't be helping.

"So you're the reason we have to run through all these chores?" Sae yells.

"Sae, you haven't had to do anything yet..." you mutter.

"I wanted to do something, but you wouldn't take me! I'm still pissed off with you over that!"

>Sae, your default state is pissed off at me.
>Besides, can you honestly say that you're stealthy?

"I could be stealthy if I want!" Sae yells, loud enough to be heard from a floor below. "Don't act like you know what I'm capable of, idiot! And it's not my fault I'm always pissed off at you! What are you doing to fix it?!"

"My point is-"

"-I am going to kick you in the gnads!-"

"-you weren't the best choice for that one specific mission. When we need someone to run in guns blazing, you'll be at the top of the list."

"I better be!" Sae yells, poking you in the chest. "Because if I'm not, I'm going to break you in half!"

"Don't worry," you hear Saki's voice call out as she opens the door and enters the room. "For the next mission, we'll need everyone we can get. Nobody will be left out."

"I don't get why you left that choice up to this stupid idiot in the first-"

"Sae, eat something," Saki sighs.

Sae crosses her arms and makes her way to her rather hefty lunchbox. "Grr... fine! But because I'm hungry, not because you told me to!"

Sae digs into her lunch, swallowing down sandwiched and donuts in single gulps, before letting out a satisfied sigh and leaning back in her chair with a smile. "Oh, that's much better..." she mumbles, licking her lips.

"So, what's the next mission?" you ask. "What did Reiji get from the to-"

Before Saki can answer, there's a knock on the clubroom door. You open it up to see Gado standing before you, with Kuin being carried along under his arm. He hoists her up and sets her down in front of you, like he was dropping a child off at daycare. Kuin stretches out her arms, feeling the effects of having Gado carry her around, before smirking and throwing her hand into the air with a dynamic pose. "Your benevolent dictator had arrived to her first official meeting!"

You smile as you look at Gado. "You sure you don't want to join, man?"

"No!" Kuin exclaims. "Gado, I command you to guard the door and nothing else!"

"You got it," Gado replies.

Kuin forces her way into the room, and using a chair as a boost, stands upon the table. "Have no fear, your benevolent ruler is here!" she exclaims. "Now, first order of business is that-"

"I'm sorry... who are you?" Saki asks.

Kuin gasps as she twirls her cape. "How dare you refuse to recognise me! That's a crime punishable by death!"

Saki raises an eyebrow. "Did... Isamu get shrunk in the wash?" she mutters to herself.

"My name is Kuin Sugisata!" Kuin exclaims. "And I am the newest member and leader of the Darkworld Investigation Group!"

"Oh..." Saki mutters. "Well, it's nice to meet you Kuin. You seem... nice, but I'm sorry to say you aren't in charge of this operation..."

"I... what?" Kuin asks, confused. "What are you talking about? I'm the benevolent dictator of Class 1! What do you mean I'm not charge?!"

"Well, this is a concentrated group effort, and we already have a plan laid out and... w-why are you sniffling?"

"W-what?!" Kuin yells as her eyes water.

"Oh no, I'm sorry!" a concerned Saki exclaims. "I didn't mean to make you cry..."

"I'm not c-crying! S-shut up!" Kuin fires back. "Rulers don't c-cry and... and... I w-wanted to be in chaaaaaaaaarge!"

Damn, she's like a spoilt child. Kuin slides down and lies back on the table, throwing a silent tantrum. "Kazuma, you're my bodyguard! D-do something!" Kuin cries.

>You can't be in charge all the time Kuin. I thought you just wanted to be a member.
>Give Kuin a hug to calm her down.

You pick Kuin up of the table and hold her close in a comforting hug. She sniffles as you hold her tight. "I know..." she mumbles, tugging on her cape, "I... I just like being the ruler."

"I know Kuin, but right now you don't have to be the ruler. You're a member just like everyone else, okay?"

Kuin wipes her eyes and sniffles once more. "Okay... I'm sorry... c-can I still wear the cape even if I'm not in charge?"

"Of course!" Saki smiles, trying hard to cheer her up. "You can wear the cape whenever you want. A guy in my class wears a cape all the time too!"

"Is he a ruler?" Kuin asks.

"No, he's a heroic knight!" Saki laughs.

"A knight, you say..." Kuin mutter, as a devilish grin appears on her face. "Maybe I should see to recruiting him as a bodyguard..."

"You don't want that," Saki replies. "Anyway... where were we?"

"The tome," you reply.

"Okay... so the tome Reiji found contains the location of these 'Twelve Stones' that The Stranger is supposed to be present at. We'll be going there tonight, and with Alice's help, we'll be pacifying the Stranger, disabling him, and rescuing Ryoji."

"Sounds good," you reply. "Wait... tonight? Isn't tonight a safe night? The Darkworld isn't coming out tonight."

"Yeah..." Saki mutters. "But here's the thing, the tome Reiji found... it contains a certain spell. One that Settan used to make contact with the Darkworld during the days of the Order of the Awakened. We're not waiting for the Darkworld to come to us... we're going to travel there ourselves."

"That sounds dangerous," you reply.

"That's probably because it is dangerous," Saki admits.

"That's fine!" Sae exclaims. "I like a little danger!"

"A dangerous mission?" Kuin asks. "That's what you people do here?"

>You don't have to come if you don't want to, Kuin.

"Well..." Kuin mutters looking towards the door. "I... wait, you can't bribe me and strong-arm me like that! Do you know the punishment is for strong-arming your Queen?"

"I wasn't strong-arming, but I imagine the punishment is-"

"Death!"

"Yeah, I figured."

"Still..." Kuin places a finger to her chin. "I suppose it is my duty as a ruler to deploy my soldiers onto the battlefield during a dangerous mission... very well! For just this mission, you will have the assistance of my most trusted bodyguard, Gado!"

"What?!" you hear Gado yelling from outside the room.

"Well... that's good to know," Saki replies. "We'll already have some heavy-hitters with us on this mission, but more firepower couldn't hurt! Uhh... right, Sayeka?"

"I can neither confirm nor deny that it would help," Sayeka replies with a smile.

"You're the worst fortune teller ever," an irate Sae mutters.

"Reiji will be ready with the tome soon enough," Saki replies. "But for now, consider this meeting adjourned!"

As the others leave the room, Kuin sits on the edge of the table, pouting. "I'm sorry I cried like a baby..." she mutters. "I must have looked like a child, and hardly befitting of a ruler of my stature!"

"Your stature?" you smirk.

Kuin smirks. "Are you implying I'm short? I could be taller! I just don't see the point in being taller! If I need to reach anywhere high, Gado can just lift me!"

Kuin lets out a sigh. "The other members must think I'm a loser..."

>I don't know about the others, but at least one member thinks you're pretty cute.

"Really?" Kuin asks, he eyes gazing at yours as she blushes. "I... I always knew I was cute!" Kuin stands atop the table, and pumps her fist triumphantly. "You hear that world? This club thinks the benevolent dictator is cute!"

"I said one of-"

"At least one of!" Kuin clarifies. "That can include all, so I will! They all think I'm cute!"

You let out a sigh. She can be a bit much, even when you're complimenting her... but hey, that's what makes her cute.

Kuin goes running out of the clubroom at an excited pace. "Come on Gado, follow your ruler! I command you to get ice cream with me!"

You smile as you watch Kuin go sprinting down the hallway. Gado stands next to you and crosses his arms. "So you think she's cute, do you?"

Damn, he could hear that.

"Well, you know..." you reply nervously, scratching the back of your head. "I wanted to pay her a compliment and, uhh... are you going you going to kill me?"

Gado stares at you with angry eyes before shaking his head. "Nah... that little scamps real important to me. I trust you more than I do any of our other classmates so far. If you ever actually pursue the kid romantically... you better believe I'll have my eyes on you, Kazuma. Like. A. Hawk."

"I expect nothing less from you Gado," you reply.

"Just a fair warning, Kaz. I like you, but if you break her heart... I'll break your legs. Now... if you'll excuse me, I've been ordered to get ice-cream. Her favourite is mint, like her hair."

You breath a sigh of relief as Gado follows Kuin's trail down the corridor. You live another day.

As you wander down the hallway yourself, you find Alice staring out the window. It's probably about time you talked to her... but you have no idea what to say.

>Sorry I scared you back when we first met.

"Huh?" Alice mutters, snapping out of her trance and looking back at you. "Oh... that's right... it's okay! I was wrong there, not you!"

"I think it was a misunderstanding on both our ends," you reply, scratching the back of your head. "I should have been clearer about what we were about..."

"I was silly!" Alice laughs. "You didn't want to capture me!"

"Well..." you mumble nervously. "When I first began to suspect what you were, I-"

"I'm not a what!" Alice protest, puffing out her cheeks. "I'm a who! She's a what, and together we're a what... but I'm a who!"

"Sorry, I didn't mean it like that..." you reply. "I guess I'm just not good at talking with you, huh?"

"You're okay!" Alice smiles. "Better than most!"

"Most people that bad at talking to you?"

"No, most people don't talk!" Alice explains.

"So..." you begin, "About this Archdemon thing..."

"Yep?"

"You said you can't be separated from your Archdemon without the host also dying..."

"I sure did!"

"So... what does that mean for you?" you ask.

"Huh?"

"Everyone's worried about getting Ryoji back without killing him... but what does it mean to you? That you're stuck with this demon forever?"

Alice looks at you, her smiling fading. "I was born eighty years ago..." she mutters. "That's a long time! That's a long long long long long time! That's much more time than you've been here! I've been around five you's, and an extra third of you! But... I'm still only one of you!"

It's true. She's supposed to have been part of the original class of the school, but she hasn't aged at all. And not just physically. Mentally, she's still a kid. In fact, she's likely regressed mentally. "That must be weird for you."

Alice goes back to looking out the window. "Ryoji shouldn't die... dying is scary. It scares me. But... I told myself to look on the bright side! Always remember that it could be worse! So I looked and I looked and I looked for a bright side, something that could be worse. What's more scary than dying?"

You pause. "Uhh... am I supposed to answer-"

"Bears? Nope! Lions? Nope! The Dark? No! Dodos-"

"You're afraid of dodos?" you ask, confused.

"They run a lot but go nowhere!" Alice exclaims. "That scares me!"

Better to not question her more outlandish statements. The explanation is likely more nonsensical that the statement.

"But I found something..." Alice continues. "I looked deep inside my head, and hidden at the bottom of a chest of drawers was my answer... you know what's scarier than dying?"

"What?"

"Not dying," Alice replies. "I... I don't like this bright side."

That's all for tonight, we'll be continuing the thread from here tomorrow afternoon GMT time!

>Later that day

You haven't been able to shake what Alice said from your mind at all. You felt so bad for the poor girl, but as she stared at that window once more... you froze up. You had no idea what to say. What do you say to something like that? And a hug would be far too familiar. Instead, you just stood with her, in complete silence. Eventually her niece came along to take her somewhere, teased the two of you for being alone together, and you think flirted with you a little.

Now, you've been told to wait at the Class 2 dorms, as Reiji fully prepares the spell in that tome. Apparently on of their own is a whiz with magic, and will be able to carry out the incantation. The rest of your club are yet to arrive, and you've just been sitting awkwardly on their common room sofa, unsure exactly of what to do with yourself. Eventually, someone steps into the common room, a blonde haired boy, walking hunched over with his hands in his pockets. He takes one look at you and smirks.

“'Sup,” he says.

“Oh, hey,” you say, giving an awkward wave.

“You're one of the Class 1 kids, right?” the boy asks. “You're joining the Ryoji rescue party?”

“Yeah,” you reply. “Are you?”

“What kind of best friend would I be if I wouldn't?” the boy smirks. “Name's Kosuke, by the way.”

Kosuke casually sits on the arm of the couch. “Kazuma,” you say, introducing yourself, “So you're Ryoji's best friend?”

“Yeah.”

“Huh...” you mutter. “I thought that Ken guy was his best friend.”

Kosuke shrugs. “Eh, Ryoji's got a lot of best friends. He's a real people person, not like I expected. But me and Rini were his friends first.”

“Rini?”

“My girlfriend,” Kosuke replies. “She's the best gal in the world. Just... don't piss her off. She's pretty fiery.”

“And you?” you ask.

Kosuke leans back. “Nah. I'm cool as a cucumber. Works out pretty well. She needs me to calm her down, and I need her to make me do... well, anything.”

“You sound like a good match,” you mutter.

“You can thank Ryoji for that,” Kosuke replies. “He's the one who set the two of us up.”

>Man, this Ryoji's starting to sound like a Saint. I thought he was supposed to be a delinquent.

"So did I," Kosuke smirks. "But the guy had this way about him. He always cared a lot about people, and that shone through. He was always one to help out his pals. Don't get me wrong, Ryoji's still a delinquent. He breaks the rules, skips classes and has very little love for authority."

"Isn't he dating the principal's granddaughter?" you ask.

"Yeah, that's probably the biggest screw you to authority he ever gave," Kosuke laughs. "Real proud of him for that one."

"Somebody mention me?" Saki smiles as she enters the room. "Hi, Kosuke! Where's Rini?"

"She's busy hitting the punching bag right now," Kosuke replies. "She told me to let you know that she's ready to 'beat the Ryoji out of that demon'."

Saki pauses. "Well... that's exactly what I expect her to say. Thank for letting me know?"

"No problem, Sak."

"Please don't call me that," Saki sighs. "I don't even like it when Ryoji calls me that."

"Are you kidding?" Kosuke asks. "The next time you hear Ryoji calling you by your nickname, you're going to faint."

"N-no I won't!" Saki blushes. "I'm much more composed than that!"

"So, what's the progress on the tome?" you ask.

"Reiji's got it all ready and deciphered," Saki proudly states, placing her hands on her hips. "Now we just need to wait for everyone to get ready, and we'll have our mage take us there!"

"Your mage?" you ask.

"Yes!" Saki replies. "We actually have an all-powerful wizard in our ranks, more adept than anyone with magic in years!"

"Really?" you ask. "And where is this wizard?"

"She's right he-" Saki begins, motioning beside herself, before realising that nobody is there. "What the... where did she... Hoshi!"

A small head peers out from behind the corner. A nervous looking girl with short black hair looks over at you, red in the face, as Saki pulls her into the room. "Come on, Hoshi! No need to be shy, he's only from Class 1!"

Saki pulls Hoshi out and proudly presents her before you, as if she were a game show prize. "Ta-daa!" Saki smiles. "Meet Hoshi Sanada, magic extraordinaire!"

"H-h-hi..." Hoshi mumbles, as she looks down at her feet. "I-I'm the... w-wizard..."

>Nice to meet you Hoshi, I'm Kaz.
>I don't think Wizards are supposed to be this cute.

Hoshi lets out a strange nervous squeak as she scurries to hide behind Saki.

"H-Hoshi!" Saki cries out. "You can't just hide like this!"

"H-he called me cute... I-I can't handle that," Hoshi mumbles, her face pressed into Saki's back.

Saki lets out a sigh. "Sorry Kaz, Hoshi can be a little nervous around new people. Probably not the best idea to call her cute."

"Who's been calling Hoshi cute?" Reiji asks as he enters the room, tome in hand.

"N-nobody!" Hosho protests. "N-nobody called me cute. I-I'm not cute!"

"Right..." Reiji mutters while adjusting his glasses. "Anyway, here's the tome, Hoshi. Take a look at the notes I've added, and we should be ready to go when everyone else is."

The room begins to pool with a few more people. A lot of faces you don't recognise, being all members of the upper classes. Some look like the best of friends, while others a giving angry glances at others. Just like any class in school, you take it. The rest of the club, alongside Gado, arrive as well. You hear a knock on the front door of the dorm and one of the class 2 kid's, some kid with white hair rushes to answer it.

"That must be the package I'm expecting!" he yells as he swing the door open, revealing Io on the other side, holding a cardboard box.

"Mr. Seishiro Ozaki, I believe you ordered these!" Io smirks as she hands the box over. "That'll be 4000 yen!"

"4000?!" Seishiro exclaims. "I thought you said it was 3500?"

"Including delivery," Io explains. "I had to import these items all the way from Greenland!"

Seishiro grumbles as he reaches into his pocket and hands her the money. "These better do what you say!"

"Oh, trust me, Mr. Ozaki! One spray of those, and any woman will go crazy for you!"

"Even you?" Seishiro smirks.

"Heh, maybe!" Io laughs with a wink. "Have a nice day, Mr-Kazuma!"

She turns her head to see you staring at her with a disapproving glare.

As Seishiro walks off, Io gives a shrug. "Trust me Kaz, this particular fish deserves to be scammed."

"Why, because he's gullible?"

"Among other reasons," Io laughs. "But... what are you doing in the Class 2 dorm? Sounds like a lot of people are inside..."

She peers her head into the dorms, but you stand in her way, blocking her view.

"I got'cha," Io winks. "Super secret club stuff, I take it? Another one of your dangerous missions where you're very likely to get hurt or killed?"

>Yeah. Wanna come with?

>You sound concerned.

"Concerned? Me?" Io jokingly scoffs. "Of course not... but I have to say, if you did die, I'd be down a customer..."

You sigh. "You know Io, it's not a crime to just come out and say you're worried."

"Worried?" Io asks. "Kaz, how could I be worried? I'm just a liar and a cheat who can't stop trying to scam people. Why would I worry about anyone other than myself?"

She can't get through the whole sentence without her voice cracking a little. Damn... those words wouldn't sting half as much if you weren't the one who said them in the first place. "Listen Io, I-"

"It's fine," Io shakes her head. "You do you, and I'll do me. And... maybe when you're done with this stuff, we can all do something together, as a class. That would be nice..."

"Io..." you mutter.

"Just... be careful tonight, okay?" Io asks of you. "I'll see you around, Kaz..."

She walks off, as you close the door to the dorm shut. "Who was the girl?" Kosuke asks you. "A friend?"

Is she? To be honest, you have no earthly idea as to how you would describe Io. Is she your friend? No. Is she an enemy? Not that either, and simply calling her your classmate doesn't really capture it either. Io is Io, but how do you sum up what Io is to you?

"She's just a girl I know," you answer with a shrug. A complete lie. You don't know Io at all.

"There's a lot of people in here I don't know..." Kiriko mutters as you join her side in the room. She nudges Mayu on the shoulder. "So Mayu, what about it?"

"What about what?"

"Anyone catch your interest?" Kiriko asks. "Any cute boys?"

"No."

"Oh..." Kiriko mutters. "Well, what about you Kaz? Class 2 has some real cuties, doesn't-"

"Kazuma!" Saki calls you over before Kiriko can finish asking. Saved by the bell there, you're not good with those embarrassing kinds of questions. "We're all ready to go! You got anything to ask before we make the leap? Any reservations?"

>Nah, I'm good. Let's go.

"Okay then, let's get moving," Saki replies. "Hoshi?"

Hoshi stands nervously in the middle of the room with the tome in her hand. "Umm... s-sorry if I m-mess up everyone... I just started learning magic this s-summer..."

"And you're already better than anyone else," Reiji pushes his glasses up to his face. "Stop putting yourself down. It's embarrassing."

"O-oh... okay... s-sorry..." Hoshi mumbles as she opens up the book. She holds her hands up and speaks the words written inside. As her incantation continues, you experience a very familiar sensation. The sensation of the floor beneath you giving way, as you fall into a black abyss. You appear out on the other side in the middle of a red-leaved forest. As you arrive, the rest of the sizeable group begin to look around.

"Hang on... there's no twelve stones around here!" A blonde haired girl in a baseball cap speaks. "Did you mess up the spell, crybaby?"

"Umm... I m-might have made a s... slight mist..."

"No mistake was made," Reiji speaks up. "We just haven't been transferred to the exact spot we were hoping, but it should be in the nearby area. We're definitely in the right region."

"Okay, then we just have to look around!" Saki explains, unable to hide the eagerness in her voice. She's waited a long time for this, and she's got her hopes as high as they can be. "Everyone, follow me! Maro, keep your class towards the front in case trouble brews, and the Class 1 club should stay towards the back where you're as safe as possible."

Everyone follows Saki's orders, moving ahead in a large group. As ordered, the club are walking at the back of the line. "Why the hell are even on this mission if we're going to be stuck back here?!" Sae complains. "Does that shortstack thing we can't handle ourselves? I can take on any one of those losers!"

"Calm down Sae," you sigh. "Look, we're an extra pair of hands. Nothing wrong with that."

"Everyone's wrong with that!" Sae yells. "I'm not settling to be a spare! I'm the best that there-WHOA!"

Before she can finish, you and Sae both find yourselves falling through a pit that just opened up in the ground before you. You land hard on you back, and as you look up you see Kiriko falling in after you, as she lands hard on your chest.

Seems you've been joined by the rest of the club. That pitfall came out of nowhere, and none of you had time to react.

"Kiriko, can you stop sitting on me?" you groan, as you begin to rise to your feet.

"Gado!" Kuin cries to her bodyguard. "Your benevolent dictator has... has... I hurt my butt!"

Gado cracks his neck. "That was a long fall..."

"Hey! Are you guys okay?" you hear Saki's voice calling from a hole high up.

"Yeah, we're fine!" you call up.

"Do you have any way to get out of there?" Saki calls down.

You look around, getting acclimated with your surroundings. You appear to have landed within a very large, very red underground tunnel. "Yeah... there's a tunnel here that we can follow!"

"That's good!" Saki calls out. "Hopefully is you follow it, it'll take you back above ground and we can meet up a-ALICE NO!"

As Saki screams out, you see Alice coming down the hole in the ceiling, diving headfirst into the pit. You act fast, moving into position and catching her in your arms.

>What the hell, Alice?! Are you crazy?!
>Geez, you had me worried there...

>Geez, you had me worried there...

Alice giggles to herself. "It's okay! I knew you would catch me!"

You place Alice on her feet and let out a sigh. "Still, you scared the hell out of me! What if I couldn't catch you, huh? What were you thinking?"

"I saw the rabbit hole, and I knew to go down!" Alice smiles.

"Why?" you ask. "Why would you think to come down here?"

"Because the rabbit hole leads to Wonderland!"

You shake your head. "I... whatever. Don't do something that reckless again. I don't want you getting hurt, Alice..."

"Great, romantic, can you two lovebirds cut it out?!" Sae snaps. "We've got a tunnel to follow you know!"

You ready yourselves as you you begin to walk through the long, gaping tunnel. A huge underground passage like this... it has to lead to somewhere important, right? Then again... this is the Darkworld. Everything here is supposed to be a death trap.

"So... not to alarm you guys, but that anyone hear that?" Tami speaks up, cupping her ear.

"The rumbling?" Gado asks. "Yeah, it's all around."

"It's almost like we're inside a creature's digestion tract!" Kuin laughs, before her eyes widen. "Oh no! Gado, what if we're in a creature's digestion tract?"

"Then I'll cut us out of here. It's my job," Gado replies.

"Ah-ah!" Kuin wags her finger. "It's your role, not your job! A job implies I pay you, and being the benevolent dictator that I am, I want my subject to follow me out of loyalty, not a promise of monetary gain!"

"Remind me why we invited her to join?" Risa asks as she walks by your. "Don't get me wrong, she's got that charm about her, but I don't think she's going to be very useful on these kinds of missions..."

Or is just The Stranger messing with everyone and he is still in control.
Every Kaz chapter we won't know if is The Stranger or Ryoji the one we are talking to.
>>
>>500662
Welp, quest over, everyone sad, Saki becomes a total yandare.
>>
>>500681
Again, from what we have seen in part 1, the stranger needs him to accomplish something (unrelated to hunting humans), and after that he will release him, wouldn't it be more productive to help the stranger if his objective isn't dangerous for humans?
>>
>>500693
This is where the tension would come from, between 'Ryoji back now!' and 'Well actually, Stranger has a point here...do we want to trust him?' because I'm pretty sure most of the non-pc are likely to fall into the former camp pretty strongly.
>>
>>500693
That would depend entirely on what the Stranger's goal is, wouldn't it? It also would require the Stranger to be telling the truth, which frankly is a dangerous thing to assume from a body stealing jackass who feeds on memories.

"She needed friends?" Risa asks. "Then take her to the movie or something! Don't drag her to hell! Still..." she sighs. "I can't deny the part about the entrance exams. The squirt's got some serious brains... though she never shows them."

"Hey!" Kuin protests, overhearing. "Are you calling your benevolent ruler an idiot! That insult in punishable by death!"

"I'm not calling you dumb," Risa replies. "I'm saying you're not acting as smart as you're supposed to."

"I am smart!" Kuin yells. "And wise, and powerful! All the qualities of a great ruler!"

The tunnel is long and winding, but eventually, you see a clearing. And entry-way into a wider space. It's dark inside as you step through, and you find yourself unable to see in front of your face... until a light starts glowing from under your shirt, around the chest area. You necklace begins to tug away at you as the stone at the end floats and pulls away, trying to set itself free. The string from your neck breaks, just as it did the last time the orb glowed, as the orb zooms away, flying through another archway on the other side of the room. As it flies by, it's blue glow remain within the room, illuminating your surroundings.

"What the heck was that?" Tami asks. "Did that little rock you always wear just... take on a mind of it's own."

"Not the first time," you reply.

"You had a... magic stone around your neck this whole time?" Gado asks. "What the hell did it go to do?"

You shrug. "I... I don't know. But we should probably follow it."

Alice stands still, paused in thought. "No..."

"No, what?" you ask.

"I don't like it..." Alice mutters. "I don't trust it."

"What, the orb?" you ask.

"It doesn't smell right..." Alice replies.

The orb shot through a passage on the opposite side of the room, but there's another passage in the wall to your right.

"I say we follow the orb," Risa replies. "It's obviously leading us somewhere."

"But Alice just said she doesn't trust it..." Tami mutters.

Alice lets out a low hum, unsure and hesitant with your decision. You sigh as you turn to face her. "Alice, I don't know why you're suspicious, but we have to follow that orb. Just trust me, okay?"

Alice pauses, biting her bottom lip, before nodding.

"Besides, the other path will be too dark to see. We'll have to follow the light from the orb, or we'll get lost."

As the group begins to move forward through the passageway straight ahead, you feel Alice taking your hand and clutching it tight. She's dragging her feet along as she moves too. "You're really this suspicious of the orb?"

Alice nods nervously as she squeezes your hand tighter.

"Don't be afraid," you say with a smile. "That orb was gift from my dad. Whatever it's doing, I can promise it's helping us. Do you trust me?"

"I... I..." Alice mumbles.

"Do you trust me, Alice?" you repeat, with a comforting smile.

"No..." Alice mutters.

"Oh..." your smile fades, as Alice relinquishes her grip on your hand and you keep moving forward. The light of the orb leads the group through another passageway into an open room.

"I wonder what's through here..." Kiriko mutters.

"Could be a trap, we should be careful," Mayu suggests.

"A trap?!" Sae asks. "Come on! We'll be fine! Stop being a bunch of scaredy-cats and come on!"

"Sae, wait!" you yell, but it's too late, as Sae rushes into the room ahead of you.

"See?" she yells from inside. "No trap! Everyone is perfectly... fine..."

"Sae?" you ask. "What's wrong?"

"It's..." she mutters, but then her voice is cut off. You run through the passage and as you enter the room you see what Sae does... a ghostly vision, an otherworldly projection of some kids. Sae is completely transfixed by them as they speak to her.

"Hey, bitch girl!" one of the kids, a small brown haired boy who looks to be about eleven years old, yells. "We just heard about your broke ass family!"

"My family isn't broke! S-shut up!" Sae yells back.

"Aww, what's the matter? Bitch girl acting out because the whole school found out about her family of dumbasses?"

"I swear, I will break your face, you twerp!" Sae fires back.

"Not to mention what he mom has to do to pay the bills..."

"S-stop it!" Sae screams, clutching her head. "Those are just rumours! They're not true! They... they're not..."

As tears flow from Sae's eyes and she stands there, shaking and upset, the vision of the children fade away, replaced by the truth of the rooms contents, three angry goblin like creatures making an aggresive move towards the incapacitated Sae. Time to make the save.

Tami springs into action almost immediately, whipping out her bow and going hunting for the goblins. You can tell that she has fantastic aim, as even in the low-light conditions, the waning blue aura from the orbs trail being the only source available, her shots are still connected. She fires an arrow into the head of the goblin closest to Sae, taking it down almost immediately. Blood splatters over the shaking Sae as you run forward and pull her to safety as Kiriko continues to fire upon the goblins. The second takes an arrow in the shoulder, before taking another piercing directly through the eye, killing it. Tami pins the final one with an arrow to the foot, then approaches the beast with her knife drawn. She slices it's throat with a quick swipe, as it falls back, lifeless. Tami makes a move to remove the fingers of one of the creatures as some sort of keepsake, a trophy for her kills, but they quickly dissolve into a black goo.

"Dang..." Tami pouts. "That always happens."

Sae is now sitting and rocking against the hard wall with her knees pressed up to her face.

"She's hyperventilating," Kuin remarks as she kneels down in front of Sae. "Okay, listen to your ruler! What you need to do is just calm your breathing! Try cupping your hands together and breathing into them, okay? It'll help slow your breathing and calm you down."

A shivering and wide-eyed Sae nods and complies with Kuin's command. As she slows her breaths and begins to calm down, you do your best to comfort her. "Are you okay?"

"Get the hell away from me!" Sae yells, taking a swing at you. "You... you didn't see anything, okay? You never saw that!"

There's a tense silence among the group, until one member decides to speak up. "I saw it!" Alice smiles. "But... I don't think I should have. It looks like this place knows you, and it's trying to show you yourself! It's a good way of scaring people! I still don't like mirrors!"

"S-shut up..." Sae mutters, still rocking back and forth. "I hate you all... j-just leave me alone!"

"You're not my friend!" Sae snaps at you. "Nobody's my friend! I don't need any friends!"

"I don't care," you say, shaking your head. "You not needing friends doesn't change the fact that we're friends. Like I said, you don't have to talk about what happened there if you don't want. But if you do, we're here for you."

"G-good, because I have nothing to talk about!" Sae fires back. "What those kids said... i-it's not true! Just a stinking, dirty rumour, you hear me?! My mom's not a... a... you know..."

"It's okay," you say, helping her to her feet. "Let's keep moving, okay?"

Sae rubs her nose as she sniffles, her eyes reddened. "Whatever, let's go."

"Interesting..." Risa mutters. "It looks like this place is purposefully trying to mess with our heads. Demons are pretty damn weird... uhh, no offence."

"I'm not a demon, I'm Alice!" Alice smiles towards Risa. "But she's a little angry you said that!"

"By she, you mean..."

"The Dreamer!" Alice replies. "She doesn't like you!"

"Oh... sorry?" Risa shrugs.

There's only one passageway out of this room other than the way you came. You continue to follow the blue glow of the orb through the tunnel until you are brought standing before a passage into yet another room.

"So... who's going in first?" Kiriko asks. "It's too small of a passage for all of us to go through together."

Everyone stays silent for a moment.

"No volunteers?" Kiriko asks. "Figured. Not really jumping to get my head screwed with myself."

"I'll go first," you state.

"Kaz, are you sure?" Kiriko asks. "What if you see something you really don't want to?"

"Don't worry Kiriko, I know to expect something going in," you reply. "I'm prepared. There's no way I'll be taken by surprise."

"Good luck, don't die," Risa smiles as she pats you on the back.

You take a deep breath and enter through the passage. It's a wide open area, with nothing inside. Simply the faint blue glow from the orbs light. No creatures, no traps, no illusions. "Guys, it's safe!" you call out. "Let's keep moving!"

"Aw sweet!" Kiriko calls out, as she steps in through the passageway, stretching out her arms. "I bet the demon just got scared of you as soon as you walked in, Kaz! It isn't going to dare mess with my little bro!"

You chuckle. "Yeah, well let's keep moving."

"Yeah, let's keep... huh. Kaz... my legs are stuck."

You turn your head to face Kiriko, and you begin to see why she can't move. The floor beneath her feet... it's like quicksand, and she's being pulled in fast. "Kiriko, using your teleportation!" you call out.

"I... I can't!" Kiriko screams. "Kaz! Help me!"

You try to move, but your feet won't let you. You look down, and while your legs aren't being pulled down by the floor, you still feel yourself frozen in fear. Helpless, powerless as you watch Kiriko gets swallowed up by the ground. It pulls her in by the legs, and within a matter of second, she been pulled in up to her waists.

"Kaz, why aren't you saving me?!" she screams.

"Kiriko, I..." you stammer.

"You could save me right now! Just like you could have saved him! Just like you could have saved them!"

"Them?" you ask.

"Them!" Kiriko screams at you, pointing her finger to the wall. Strewn across the walls are the pinned up, lifeless corpses of your entire class. You clutch your head in pain as Kiriko continues to scream at you.

"You're weak, Kaz! That's why your father died! That's why they'll all die! You've killed me! You've killed us all! I hate you!"

"I... I didn't kill anyone!" you scream back.

"Yes you did!" Kiriko fires back, the floor having dragged her up to her neck. "Look at yourself!"

You look down at your hands. There's a bloody pair of scissors in your right hand. In fact... you're covered in blood. Many different shades of it. Not just from one person, but from many. The blood of the entire class on your hands. You clutch your head and scream as the floor swallows Kiriko up.

"No..." you scream. "N-no! NO!"

>Rolled 44

You fall to your knees and double over clutching your head in pain. In your manic state, you begin to pull at your hair, painfully tearing a tuft from your head. You throw your head back and ram it forward, bashing your forehead onto the hard floor, leaving a painful cut right above your eye. You keep screaming until your lungs give out, continuing to pull away at your hair. You couldn't have done it... you couldn't have... this is just the tunnel messing with your head... but why does it feel so real?

No... it must be real, it isn't an illusion... she's gone.

They're all gone.

You killed them.

You killed Kiriko.

You're a failure.

You're a sick, disgusting failure of a human being.

This is all your fault.

What's that? A... voice. A voice in the darkness...

"Kazuma. Stand up. Stop being so weak."

It... it sounds like Mayu...

Mayu...

No. No, she's gone. Along with the rest. This is an illusion.

A hand reaches out to you.

No... it's reaching for your chest.

They want to take it.

They want to take your stone.

You remember what your father told you. You father, the only voice you should ever listen to.

If they try to take it, you must kill them.

You have to kill them.

Kill them.

You grab your sword as you rise to your feet, ramming it through the figure standing before you.

And then you hear a gasp.

You look around, the room is bare once more. No corpses, no quicksand. No anything. It was all an illusion.

And before you stand a shocked Mayu, with your sword pierced through her belly.

"Kaz... uma..." she mutters, before collapsing.

Oh no... oh no... this can't be happening.

You draw your sword out of her as she falls back. You toss it to your side, falling to your knees as you hold her head in your hands. "Mayu... I... I'm so sorry, I didn't know what I was..."

"It's... okay..." Mayu gasps, looking you in the eyes. "I'll... survive..."

"MAYU!" Kiriko screams as she rushes to her friend's side. "Mayu, you can't die!"

Gado makes his way towards Mayu and examines the wound. "Don't worry... she'll live. But she won't be fighting any time soon. I have gauze in my bag, if we can cover it up, she'll be okay until we can get her back to the school. From there, she can seek proper medical attention.

Mayu continues staring at you, struggling to maintain consciousness with pained and laboured breathing.

>I'm so sorry... please forgive me.

>I failed you... I'm just a failure.

Mayu stares at you as she place her hand on your cheek. "No... you're..."

Before she can finish, she loses her energy, falling into unconsciousness.

"You're not a failure, Kaz..." Kiriko mutters, placing a comforting hand on your shoulder. "This place... it messed with your head. You couldn't help it."

"Yeah, don't blame yourself," Risa adds. "Any one of us would have had the same thing happen in your place. You probably kept yourself more in control than we would have."

Risa helps you to your feet and dusts you off. "Come on, Kaz. Chin up. We've got to keep moving."

"No... I should have been able to prevent this... and now... you're all going to die because of me!"

Risa sighs, as she forcefully cups your face in her hands, twisting your attentions towards looking at her. "Listen to me, Kaz. Look me in the eye when I tell you this. You're fine. You're not a failure, you're not going to get us all killed. Whatever you just saw, whatever this place showed you... it's not real, okay? Now, we're going to press on, we're going to get out of here, we're going to meet up with the others, we're going to find this Ryoji guy, and we're going to take him home, and I'm going to give you a big kiss on the cheek for a job well done, okay?"

You take a deep breath and nod.

"Good," Risa smiles. "No use beating yourself up now. Let's keep moving."

"She was very brave..." Alice mutters, watching a Gado lifts Mayu's unconscious body and carries her. "The second you looked like you were in trouble, boom! She was like a rocket running to your side! She must really like you!"

She doesn't, which is the weirdest thing. Mayu has never like you, and yet she immediately rushed to your aid, faster than anyone else. That's some serious bravery on her part.

"This isn't looking good," Gado mutters. "We're down one fighter, and another two are pretty damn shaken because of those visions. Let's hope the exit is nearby and we can meet with that other class."

"Oh, we won't be meeting with them!" Alice smiles. "They're going the wrong way!"

"What?!" Kiriko exclaims. "They are?!"

"Yep!" Alice giggles. "I just realised a few minutes ago!"

"Crap..." Kiriko groans. "Wait... if they're going the wrong way, does that mean..."

"Yep!" Alice laughs. "The twelve stones are right through there!"

"You sound determined for someone who was just calling himself a failure a minute ago," Gado remarks.

"The sooner we get out of here, the sooner I can make up for what I just did to Mayu. Are you with me?"

"What a dumb question," Gado replies. "Why wouldn't I be? Come on."

Gathering your thoughts and readying your sword, you step out through the final passageway, and soon you find the tunnel taking an upward incline. As it steepens and steepens, you soon find yourself breaking into a crawl before the tunnel brings you above ground. You let out a cough as you survey your surroundings. It's the red forest you first arrived in, but an open clearing within. In the centre of the clearing lies what appear to be some kind of shrine. Directly to your right as you exit the tunnel is a stone pillar with a monstrous face carved within. You notice a few more or these stone pillars scattered out around the clearing... eleven more, in fact, all of them forming a circled around the shrine. It seems you've reached your destination.

Floating before you is the blue orb, which you handily grab out of the air and grasp in your hand. It seems it was leading you on the right path after all.

It's then that you see... him. The man in the red hood, standing by the shrine. He turns his head to look at you. His face is almost entirely covered up, except for his eyes. His piercing, glowing and terrifying eyes staring right at you, as if he were staring into your soul.

"A stranger walks among us..." Alice whispers.

"Sorry friend!" The hooded figure laughs. "I can't help but notice you're holding a little something in your hands! That yours?"

"Yes, it is-"

"Wrong! It's mine," the man's deep voice calls out, as a knife materialises in his hand. "It's very important to me, you see. Old family heirloom. I'd hate to kill 'ya to take it... but at the same time, I really want to just kill you and take it."

>You're not taking this. Over my dead body.

>You're The Stranger, I take it... Ryoji, if you're in there, can you hear me?

The Stranger stops in his tracks. "I... what?"

"Ryoji, you're still in there aren't you?" you call out. "You can fight his control! Come back, Ryoji!"

The Stranger appears to wince and stagger back, clutching his head in pain. Looks like Ryoji heard you, and he's beginning to fight back. "I... I..." he mumbles. "Yes... yes, I can... I can fight him..."

"Ryoji!" you cry out again. "We're here to help you! Saki sent us to save you!"

Ryoji gives a small laugh, shaking and struggling against The Stranger's control. "Saki... heh, of course she did. Nothing stops that little fireball... I... I don't know if I can fight his control much longer..."

"Yes you can!" you protest. "You can't give up!"

"He's too strong..." Ryoji mutters, grasping his shaking hand, trying as hard as he can to regain control of his body. "You have to weaken him... and... if it doesn't work... if I don't make it out of this, tell Saki..."

"Yes?" you ask.

"Tell Saki... tell her... that the guy she sent is so freakin' gullible!"

Oh... dammit. The Stranger returns to his usual stance and throws his head back in laughter. "Got you believing it, didn't I? Had to say, it was a hell of a performance on my end!"

"Oh now that is just cruel!" Kiriko gasps.

"Trust me, Ryoji isn't coming out any time soon. I've got him plenty busy in here," Stranger laughs, tapping on his noggin. "Now, since you know who I am, I'm sure you also know what I do. You don't want me to do what I do to you. Now give me the stupid stone and there'll be a lot less child corpses littering this forest! Well... a little less."

"I know what you are," You reply, drawing your sword. "But you never asked who I was."

"Probably because I don't care," Stranger fires back.

"You should care!" You yell. "Because I am Kazuma Asai, and I'm going to follow in my father's footstep, in ridding the world of monsters like you!"

Alice begins whispering to herself as you yell at The Stranger. "What are you doing?"

"I'm talking to her..." Alice explains. "She needs to come out. Please keep evil at bay until she comes!"

There's no talking to him. This is it. The odds are against you and your group, even if Alice can eventually pull out her own demon, but you're not going to give up. And Archdemon is nothing compared to your will, your determination, your desire. You and you friends are going to take this freak down and pull Ryoji out of him.

"You want me to go toe-to-toe with a demon god?" Gado asks.

"You're a tough guy, right?"

"Tough, not invincible..." he grumbles. "I'll try to keep him busy and not get killed. You other two just keep firing at him while he's busy with me. Don't miss."

Gado draws his sword and charges at The Stranger, who readies two knives and holds his arms out, overconfident and allowing Gado an opening to attack. Gado swipes his blade down with great fury to find that of course, it was a false opening, The Stranger moving with the quickness of lightning and parrying Gado's attack. Gado throws a kick aimed at Stranger's guy, causing the demon to jump back in order to dodge, before Gado returns to his assault, trying to slice away at The Stranger, who blocks everything Gado throws at him with ease and a mocking yawn. Gado's incredibly good, a fantastic swordsman as you can tell from his movements, but Stranger is on an entirely different level. Gado simply can't keep up.

Still, while The Stranger is having his fill in taunting Gado, Risa and Tami move in opposite directions, flanking The Stranger as they let loose with their ranged attacks. Stranger is having such little trouble with Gado that he's able to swat away Tami's first arrow as it comes whizzing towards him. The same can't be said for the first two bullets from Risa, which handily lodge themselves within Stranger's shoulders with precision. What little you can see of Stranger's face grimaces in pain, as the momentary distraction allows Tami to fire another arrow forward, this one lodging itself right into the side of The Stranger's neck.

"Gah!" he yells out as the tip of the arrow pierces his flesh. "What the hell?! That's it, I was going real easy on you kids! I thought that hey, since you're friends with Saki, I could at least let you live with some broken bones or missing limbs as a favour, but no! You had to become a literal pain in my neck! Playtime is over!"

The Stranger blocks another swipe from Gado, this one with enough force to knock the blade from Gado hands. Gado immediately reacts by pulling out his pistol and pointing it inches away from Stranger's face, but the demon quickly grabs the barrel of the gun and twists it upwards, rendering it useless. Gado tosses the gun to the side, and tosses a punch directly into the jaw of Stranger, which connects, but does nothing. "Why would you punch a demon?" The Stranger chuckles, before grabbing Gado and throwing him full force at a nearby tree. Gado hits the tree with enough force to crack through the base, leaving him momentarily unconscious.

Stranger chuckles as he removes the arrow from his neck and snaps it in two. "Ah... there we-GAH!"

Stranger takes and arrow to the shin from Tami, followed by another the the shoulder, followed by a barrage of bullets into the Stranger chest. More and more black-tinted blood spews from Stranger as he is hit. "Would you two stop!" he calls out. "You're like a pair of mosquitoes! It's very annoying! Don't make me come over there and-"

Before he can finish, Stranger is sent flying after being hit by a blast of white energy. He is sent careening into the shrine, landing flat on his ass, as he begins to remove the arrows from his body. You look behind you to see Alice, with a very different look on her face.

"Dreamer..." The Stranger mutters.

"Stranger..." Alice, or The Dreamer, or whatever you want to call her replies. "The friend of my vessel is not yours to keep. Return him."

"Trust me Sleepyhead, what I'm trying to do is for Ryoji's own good. Both of ours. Now, stop standing in my way!"

Stranger readies his knives, ready to fight again.

Ok if this is Fire Emblem then is time to abuse the OP unit

Dreamer/Alice: Go all out
Tami: Keep shooting him.
Risa:: Try to go for the binds: Aim arm, Aim leg.
Kaz: Replace Gado close range
>>
Kuin strats keep our head in the game.
Dreamer, overwhelm/ shock and awe.
Kiriko teleport movement, keep erratically and try to stay out of grabbing range when's possible.
Tami keep shooting butt move from location too location, don't let him get a bead on you.

I'll go with this. Seems kind of risky to just have everyone attack without specific roles.

>Risa: Keep shooting him.
>Tami: Try to go for the binds: Aim arm, Aim leg.

Fixed the order of actions, my bad

>>501689
Could he be trying to separate himself from Ryoji? 'Cause that sounds like a total win-win situation where we would totally let him be had he just told us.

>>501719
Sounds about right, a heavy swinger like Gado was probably a bad idea against someone fast like Stranger but we should do a much better job.

Kaz: distraction, he wants the jewel
Sae & Risa: full auto barrage
Dreamer: unload everything

We kind gave him a chance to talk, though we might have gotten a better chance had people picked the talk option, and he didn't seem to have anything to say. He can talk when we hogtie him back to Saki or something.

It seemed more like bantering to me. If he truly did he would have squashed gado instantly.

Though I agree that he is dangerous nevertheless.

"So Dreamer, why are you so friendly with your vessel these days? What possessed you, no pun intend-GAH!"

The Dreamer doesn't give him a chance to give a sly remark, as she casually hits him with another blast of white energy, followed by another, and another, and another. You begin to think that Alice might be able to handle it all by herself, until finally The Stranger is able to defend himself, deflecting the last blast and sending it shooting up into the air, where it lights up the sky. It's almost blinding, but you're thankful that Stranger may have just inadvertently made a beacon in the sky that the others can follow to your location.

Tami fires another arrow at Stranger, which he deflects easily. Tami shoots again and again, as Stranger keep knocking her arrows to the side at a steady pace. She comes close to landing something on him, the arrow being inches from his face before Stranger catches it in hand and snaps it in half. Tami lets out an exasperated sigh as she runs out of arrows with none of her attacks landing, but she was thankfully still able to distract Stranger enough to give Risa an opening, firing precise shots that pierce through Stranger's vulnerable points, through the joints in his shoulders, his arms, his legs. Taking a bullet straight through the knee is enough to cause him to buckle up a little and slow down. Stranger may be a powerful demon god with a penchant for regenerating wounds, but he's still a human body. No matter how fast he can heal up, hitting those points in a human body slows them down. And with the Stranger slowed, you move in for a close range attack, swiping quickly. You slash at his chest, but he still manages to work up the agility to dodge, the blade missing his flesh by half an inch before her readies his knives and jams one into your shoulder.

You grunt in pain as he pushes it in deeper and twists the knife. "Just give it up. You can hit me with anything you want, but I'm not going down."

"My father told me never to give up!" you yell at him. "Never!"

"Oh great, it's a daddy-issues kid," The Stranger rolls his eyes. "I'm not going to sit here and whine about your poor old pops and whatever happened with him that left you so messed up. It's all so boring, I'm just going to take that stone now."

The Stranger has you trapped as he slices the bottom of the wrist in you clenched arm. Opening a vein, blood spurts from your wrist as you begin to lose feeling in that arm, jerking it back and losing grip of the blue orb that lies within your clenched had. The stone flies upwards as you stagger back, and Stranger reaches his hand up to grab it, only for his hand to be punctured by a bullet from Risa. "Dammit!" Stranger curses as he clutches his hand.

The orb falls to the ground and rolls out of his reach. He scrambles to get it, but is once again sent flying back by a burst of energy from Dreamer. And extremely powerful one that send him flying head first into the shrine. He falls into a seated position, his back pressed against the shrine, black blood dripping down from under his cowl.

"We have you beaten," you remark, clutching your bleeding wrist to keep the wound closed. "Are you finally ready to give up?"

The Stranger looks around at his opponents, and lets out a sigh. "Damn it Dreamer, you got a lot more powerful while I was running around... okay, you win. I'm ready to call it quits."

"Really?" you ask.

"Yeah, I tried to be diplomatic-"

"No you didn't!" Sae screams, as she watches over Mayu's unconscious body.

"Whatever, I give up. Do what you want with me... just... one last thing before you do?"

"What's that?" you ask.

"This."

Stranger quickly holds his hand out and concentrates on the orb on the ground. The orb begins to glow and float, zipping straight into Strangers open hand.

"Wait, what are you-" you call out, but it's too late. Before anyone has time to react, Stranger spins around, placing the orb atop the Shrine behind him, and before you know it, you're being enveloped in a blinding flash of white. A full minute passes before your vision is returned to you, and your surroundings now look like a blast zone. The trees have been toppled and incinerated, and the twelve stone totems have disappeared. The Shrine is gone too, but still standing in the middle of it all is The Stranger. Only now, his hood is pulled back, his face uncovered, and he's breathing heavily, unsure of where he is.

You hesitantly approach him, utterly confused as to what just happened. Is this even The Stranger standing before you?

"Hey..." you begin, trying to grab his attention in his panicked state. "Who am I talking to right now?"

His head looks back at you, as he continues to breath heavily.

"The name's Ryoji Shida, master delinquent... who the hell are you?" he asks, before collapses in exhaustion.

He's baaaaaack! Ryoji has returned, and episode 4 will take place from his POV, focusing on his time trapped within The Stranger. What do you expect of Ryoji's future in Season 2?
>>
>>501934
I think this is a victory? Maybe? Its a pyhrric one at least.

>>501952
Realistically, we wouldn't know either way if we beat him or didn't. For now we assume we got Ryoji back as the stranger completed his task.
>>
>>501952
Nonsense, that introduction is totally Ryoji.

>>501959
Had we chosen to talk to him would Stranger have told us his plan? Could we have avoided the entire fight by just talking to him and giving him the stone? Probably doesn't sound like a very in character thing to do though.
>>
>>501959
Hugs, party and fireworks, before or after solving Rei's and Sayeka's problem
>>
>Had we chosen to talk to him would Stranger have told us his plan?

No, he would have acted paranoid as he usually did, and assured you that while his plan was for the best, telling you what it was would make you want to stop him.

Because there's a good bit more to what Stranger just did than giving Ryoji back, as you'll soon learn.
>>
>>501959
It really feels nice to have Ryoji back. The next episode is going to be a real trip to see. Pity Saki will have to wait to smother him with love.

Some of the basic things I expect will be us delving into his past, as well as once and for all settling one of the most important questions he has. Who was Nina...?

I also expect that he'll go back to his therapist ways as he tries to pick up some broken pieces, Rei, Akira, Sayeka, to name a few. And maybe we'll get to the route of some other deep issues the cast has been dealing with. Akemi's unrequited love comes to mind. Though maybe that is for an OVA...

I also really live the place where Kaz is at now. His relationship now with Mayu will be fun to play through...though maybe it would be best to pull a reverse Akira, out of guilt. I am very interested to see where this will go.

It pays to lurk and contribute only when absolutely nessecary.

Though I do wish I was in the discord. The reactions must have been gold. I will be very active tonight/tomorrow because I want to discuss this with all of you.

Seriously Booker, knocked this one out of the park. And can't wait to be seeing Ryoji Stranger in episode 4.
