Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you adopted a creepy loli and her monster friend, then impressed some commoners by waving your semi-divine dick in their face.

It is currently the 5th of Yuddha, in the year 936 NH.

A great, heaving breath marks your return to consciousness. Your skin feels like it's on fire, and it's with unintentional violence that you fight your way out of the grip of your companions. There's an immense pain in your chest and the rush of blood in your ears is thunderous. People are shouting at you, that much you realize, but you can't really hear them. You make it about ten feet before you're forced to spew the contents of your stomach across the metal platform on which your tower sits.

Vomiting is, in a way, strangely comforting. It allows you time to collect your thoughts, even as your body revolts against the strain you've put it through. Eventually the tide of half-digested food subsides and you're able to stumble forward on unsteady legs, an arm hooking itself through your own to help you along. Darzi is kind enough to seat you against the wall of the tower, despite the fact you accidentally drove an elbow into her cheek while you were flailing to escape from the grasp of your friends.

The puddle you left on the platform vanishes with a gesture, and for a time you just focus on breathing. Your heart rate gradually slows and the pain in your chest subsides, but even several minutes after returning to your mortal form you still suffer from a dull, all-pervading ache. Only belatedly do you realize people have been trying to get your attention, a hand upon your shoulder forcing you out of the malaise you'd sunken into.

Profectus stands over you, Devika peeking out at you from behind his legs. She stares at you with wide-eyed confusion and your companion seems only slightly more composed than she is. You're not quite sure where Darzi's gone, she was with you a moment ago. “You feeling alright, Mik? You've been sitting here for a half hour, just staring at the ground.”

“Just the unfortunate consequences of leaving your body a soulless husk so you can impress some few commoners in a backwater nobody has ever heard of.” Your voice is hoarse, and forming your thoughts into a coherent sentence proves inordinately difficult. Each syllable comes slowly and only as the result of sincere effort on your part. “Help me to my feet, would you?”

He sighs, extending a hand which you grasp firmly by the wrist. You have to leverage yourself against the wall to stand, but once on your feet you're able to more or less support yourself. Walking proves a little more difficult than usual but you manage it well enough. You're about to set off for the grand arched doorway which permits entry to your tower when a soft tug against your sleeve distracts you.

Glancing down you find Devika hanging onto the cuff of your robe. “Do I get to meet your son now?” She asks timidly. “You said he could fly, and I wanna ask him if I can ride on his back.”

>You suppose now is as good a time as any to introduce her to Zahak.
>Truthfully you're exhausted, a nice nap sounds good right about now. She can ask later.
>With your husk depleted, you were hoping to fit in a meditation session. She'll have a chance some other time.
>After the day you've had, you really want nothing more than to curl up with a book and read. Apologize, but it will have to wait.

Yea if I weren't here from the start I don't know if I'd be able to spend days or weeks going threw everything. Some people do though, it's probably an interesting read though. I'm hoping the shit posting doesn't decrease his hope in humanity.
>>
>>504245
Not when you left your body to meditate, but you did vomit after the first time you ascended. Granted, that was complicated by the fact you were wearing your Heavy Warlock Armor. The second time you ascended you did not vomit, because you didn't reenter your old body. Primarily because your old body was dead.
>>
>>504250
also it no longer existed.
>>
>>504250
Why is it that we don't vomit when we leave the body to meditate but vomit when ascend? Would we avoid that problem if we created a new body?

You rest a hand lightly on the girl's head, briefly ruffling her hair to her immense annoyance. “Sure thing, I'll introduce you to Zahak. Just remember that whether or not he lets you ride on his back is solely his decision to make, I have no say in the matter.” Whatever offense she took to your mussing up her hair is forgotten under a fresh wave of excitement, she skips alongside you as you make your way towards the bridge which spans the stretch of ocean separating your tower from Zahak's den.

Profectus follows you, and you can tell based solely on the low hum of thought at the edge of your awareness that he wants to ask you some question or another. Apparently he doesn't feel it appropriate to do so in Devika's presence, which you're quite content with. You've done quite enough lecturing over the course of the past few days, and though it's evidently garnered you something of a following you've grown quite tired of it.

Stepping into Zahak's little corner of your realm, it becomes immediately clear that your son has been hard at work decorating it to his liking. Steam rises from the briny pool at the center of the room, salt gathered in great clumps around its edges. Surrounding the pool is a thick slap of marble which you come to find is heated as you draw closer to where your son lounges in his bath.

The entire room would be unbearably humid, were it not for the skylight above. You could almost mistake the den for a squat, rotund volcano at a distance, so much steam billows from its mouth. You note that where the raised dais he used as a throne once sat, there's now a manner of domed structure lined with dozens upon dozens of pillows, and scattered about the vast structure are various fountains and statues.

Personally you find it all a little haphazard and ostentatious, but you suppose Zahak is still figuring things out. Regardless he seems to have taken note of you now that you've stepped into his room, as it were. Your son bounds out of the boiling water he'd been soaking in with a single, powerful leap and the water covering him evaporates in the same instant. {You're back! This place is kind of weird, Papa. Everything feels like you, which I like, but it makes it hard to figure out where you are, which makes me nervous.}

You'd been privately wondering why your son seems so reclusive whenever you spend any amount of time in your realm. You had assumed it was merely because he didn't like being inside the tower proper. {I apologize for being gone for so long, but my business in the city ended up being far more extensive than I'd originally intended.} Devika seems paralyzed by either fear or awe at the sight of your son padding softly across the heated floors towards you, his immense horned head lowering to nuzzle against your chest. At the rate he's growing, soon his head alone will be larger than you are.

Shooting a jet of flame along Zahak's side elicits a deep, throaty purr from your son accompanied shortly by the rattling of his neck scales. Devika gasp at your side, hiding herself further behind your back. Frowning lightly, you place a hand on the girl's back and gently urge her forward. “Devika, this is Zahak. Didn't you have something you wanted to ask him?”

Your gentle urging at least gets her to open her mouth, but she seems to be struggling with forming words. Especially after your son cranes his neck to get a good look at her, his head easily dwarfing her in size. He could probably swallow her whole, if he wanted to. {Hi Devika!} His voice echoes cheerily through your thoughts, and presumably hers as well. Your son peels back his lips in what you imagine is supposed to be a smile, but somehow his mouth full of razor sharp teeth is less than charming. {You're really small!}

Rather than running away, as you'd half expected, she takes a deep breath to gather herself and politely bows her head in greeting. “It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Mister Zahak.” There's a brief pause, before she suddenly blurts out. “Can I ride on your back?”

Zahak shifts his bulk, dipping one wing to provide a platform across which she can scramble to reach his saddle. {Sure! Just be careful, and hold on tight. Papa hasn't ever fallen off but he's not small like you.}

It's with unexpected enthusiasm that Devika leaps onto your son's wing and struggles her way across its leather surface to seat herself firmly in the saddle. She holds on firmly to the lip of the saddle, but her legs are too short to reach the stirrups. She shrieks girlishly and descends into a mad fit of giggling as your son raises himself up onto the tips of his wings and begins to lumber around his disorganized palace.

You get the sense that Zahak's testing her, to see how well she can stay on. You're distracted from watching your son and the odd little girl you've taken under your wing frolic about the room, never actually taking flight, by Profectus' lowered voice. “Is that what you were talking about a week or so ago, when you came back as a flesh sack stuffed full of organs?” There's a note of suspicion to the tone of his voice, and perhaps a bit of fear. “Transcending mortal form and all that. Becoming a temporary spirit. You looked some kind of god made flesh.”

“Indeed it is, my friend.” You spare him a glance over your shoulder. Profectus stands just behind you, his attention focused on Zahak and Devika. “In all likelihood, I think you too will learn to ascend given time. I learned how to when seeking to fully master Metal magic, and historically my people have primarily learned to ascend while mastering Fire magic. In fact, the method described in that book of yours is almost exactly the method I used to achieve that state of being.”

A troubled frown creases your friend's brow, his arms folding themselves across his chest. “We'll cross that bridge when we come to it, I suppose. I just worry that something like that could go to a man's head, is all. Especially after all that happened in the city.”

Having a cult is cool and all, but we're not some kind of god. Any mortal with the right skills mindset can ascend just like we can, so we shouldn't be revered as some sort of otherwordly figure. At most we deserve respect for our accomplishments and deeds.

“Relax, Profectus.” In a way, you're glad he's worried for you. More than that, you're glad he saw fit to speak out instead of just meekly following along while worrying himself to death. “I know full well I'm not a god, nor would I particularly want to be seen as one. Being a god sounds horribly tedious, and that particular sort of attention can quickly become dangerous. We've only just seen a demonstration of that fact.”

The tension drains from your companion's frame. “Thank all the gods, Mik. You had me worried for a moment there. It's just, I don't know...” He trails off, scratching uncomfortably at the back of his head. “I've heard too many stories about Vatis growing extraordinarily powerful and turning into raging madmen. I'd hate to see you suffer that fate.”

“Well, I certainly hope that I'd kill myself long before I started killing others.” That would certainly be the more honorable course of action. “Honestly though, I don't see my ascended state as really putting me at any risk of that. I think you'll understand better what it's like once you yourself slip free of your mortal form. It's a powerful feeling, intoxicating really, and it certainly places me on par with a fair number of spirits, but it's-” You wave a hand searchingly through the air, as if to pluck the word you're looking for from the aether. “It's, well, distinct I suppose. I can feel on an instinctual level that I do not control reality, it merely bends to my will. It's not like here, where I'm an integral part of the world.”

Profectus doesn't truly seem to understand, but at the very least he takes you're word for it. You'd say more, but it's at that moment that a powerful gust of wind informs you of your son's departure. Searching the room, you see neither hide nor hair of Zahak. With a sigh you leave via the grand double doors which mark the entry to your son's room and step out onto the platform on which his little corner of the realm sits.

In those few seconds alone he's already put enough distance between himself and the tower that you can see little more than his outline against the eternal night sky. Presumably he'll have the good sense to return before too long, and catch Devika should she fall. Still, a knot of worry forms in your gut.

Fortunately, distance seems to be no obstacle for you here. When you reach out to intertwine your mind with Zahak's own, you're able to perceive his thoughts and emotions as though he were standing right next to you. {Don't fly too far, I'm not entirely certain just how large this realm is and what should happen if you reach its edge.}

{Don't worry, Papa!} Comes his enthusiastic reply. {I've been exploring while you were gone, and when you reach the end you just start over from the other end. I could keep flying for forever!}
(1/2)
>>
That's odd, and would seem to violate some kind of divine law, but you're not going to question it. So long as it's not just a wall that Zahak is at risk of running into. “If you'll excuse me, Profectus, I think I'd like to get some sleep. That display I put on has left me drained, you understand.”

“By all means, get some sleep for once in your life.” He punches you affectionately in the shoulder. “I'll probably find Chryssa and see about doing some sparring.” He sighs wearily, less than enthused by the prospect. “I'd ask Darzi, but she said something about preparing a bath, so I guess I'll just let that woman kick my ass for an hour.”

As the two of you walk together back across the arching bridge to the tower proper, your thoughts turn to the foul taste which lingers in your mouth and the persistent ache in your joints. Perhaps a bath would be a pleasant way to relax before bed? The heat, if nothing else, would hopefully serve to alleviate the dull, throbbing headache slowly spreading through the back of your head.

no reason to use the mage core. it is a valuable resource and we should hold on to it until we are ready to make something good with it. getting the enchanting part of the equation worked out is better for the body. as for what to make, i got nothing, but have an image for the golem head with a normal human body.

reminder that the brooches hold the secret to linking minds

reminder that the golem cores hold the secret to creating permanent artificial minds as per animate

reminder that it we didn't have ADHD we could combine these facts to create an artifact that would allow the wearer to ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL of one of several false bodies remotely

we could deposit them in Anthus, El-Amin, our brother's palace and this last town we visited to check in on people and tell them to do this or that

if we read forbidden arts or study Fulvia's old body we can make it an actual fully-functioning body that can cast spells and shit

or hell, just burn a favor to have Mahana copy and combine the brooch with the golem core so we get anti-magic golems slaved to us instead of Fulvia

>There were some really weird enchanters back in the day.

>>
>>506048
Ok, so I have some ideas on how to make this work.

Right now we're going to be creating a copy of our body. Its only difference will be that it lacks a soul. It'll be functionally identical to a corpse except it will still have a shell, whereas corpses do not.

It should be 'alive' in the sense that its heart will still pump. All we need to do to make it work is give it a mind.

The most obvious way to do that is to just enchant it with 'create+mind', but that seems naiive. It's likely that the nature of the shell and the lack of specificity in the 'mind' rune will result in something we don't want, even if it is a functional golem.

I think it would be better to examine reality around ourself and see how the strings twist to form our mind. We could then attempt to manipulate reality directly while ascended to replicate our mind. We've already done something similar: when we unravelled vicitra's mind, so we should be able to have some sort of idea of what we're doing.

Another solid option is to cast the Animate effect on the shell+corpse and see if we can get it to do something. Animate creates a temporary artificial mind, so we might be able to get an idea of how such a thing works in order to inform our usage of the 'mind' rune when we try to enchant the golem to make it permanently intelligent.

Another fun idea that doesn't have to do with making the golem function is to replace its shell with the copy of someone else's shell to study self image and how exactly water magic utilizes the self-image for healing. But that's an experiment for later.
>>
>>506048
>implying most liches don't experiment with techniques similar to creating additional bodies

speaking of which, does anyone else want to go beat the living shit out of Butthole Face after we do Elaudia and Prof ascends? fucker is responsible for the return of the dracolich, and Mahana would probably reward us generously for his territory.
>>
>>506071
Fuck off Rob
>>
>>506071
the animate effect is a better idea. copying Mik's mind would probably incur the creation rebels malus, which is also implied to make the divine police nervous. whereas the animate effect creates a very simple mind under the control of its caster, which is more useful to us at this stage.

Soma, can we use permanency on vys-cast spells instead of enchantments, or did you retcon that as well?
>>
we are going to flood the world with mik copies at this rate.
>>
>>506084
I don't see the problem.
>>
>>506084
At a rate of one per vote?

No. It will never happen.

But if we vote to mechanize the process through enchantments and give Fulvia a full-time side project, well, that might just come to pass.
Maybe even create different versions with different benefits, color coded perhaps.
>>

You ruminate for a time on the prospect of a bath, the doors opening of their own volition to allow Profectus and yourself entry to the tower. It's as Profectus leaves you to join Chryssa in the sparring room that you're reminded suddenly of that curious procedure you carried out on her after she killed you. From the template that was her body, you fabricated a perfect replica which, once properly prepared, your disembodied soul was able to inhabit. What if you did the same thing to your own body? You could use it as a basis on which to construct some manner of golem.

Seized by the idea, and left to your own devices, you duck into your workshop to make best use of the tools to be found there. It's blessedly empty, Fulvia has dedicated herself to exploring the first few levels of your tower, so you lock the doors with a gesture and assume a meditative pose on the floor.

Just as earlier today, you channel that most vital collection of memories and sensations inwards. Your husk pours into the gleaming silver of your shell, its presence burnishing the surface of that which binds you to reality a brilliant gold. Slipping free of your physical body is a blessed relief. The aches, the headache, the nausea, all of that is forgotten in an instant. Washed away by the power coursing through your extremities.
>Vys Pool: (42/[42])

Stripping reality to its basal layer is simply a matter of exerting your will. The workshop falls away, replaced in rapid succession by the haze of ambient vys which fills your realm and the pinpricks of light which mark the souls of your companions. It's with some minor curiosity that you note the absence of your own soul. Where your body lies, there's nothing. No husk, no shell, nothing at all. However, you are a gleaming ball of light, every part of you glows with the presence of divinity.

This to is forgotten, and in its place stretches the endless array of strings which compose reality's most basic aspects. You remain bound to your body by a thick bundle of corded threads, a thin tether connecting you to the physical world. Sever that, you imagine, and your body would die.

You set about your task, that of replicating the threads which run through your body in exacting detail. It's a lengthy process, and the threads seem at once to rebel against your efforts. Several times you're forced to rip away some fragment of your memories to help shore up the threads and ensure they remain in place. However, something odd begins to occur as you work. Brief snatches of the world from a different perspective, looking up at your own disembodied form. For now you ignore it, and continue to work.

(1/2)
>>
As the last of your husk pours into the threads, they come into sudden and sharp definition. The pain which flares through you is immense and unexpected, a great chunk of your body vanishing in an instant only to reappear elsewhere. You do not look down upon two perfect copies of your body, you look down at four. More than that, there's another figure here, his skin the same pitch black as your own and the tattoos which cover his arms likewise identical.
>Vys Pool: (36/[36])

It takes you a moment to realize that you're perceiving reality from two different perspectives, and in fact control both versions of yourself. When you move your arm, so to does the other version of you. When you float forward or backwards, your copy mimics you. It's disorienting, especially upon realizing that the four copies are in fact two from different angles, but perhaps not the strangest thing you've experienced.
>Vys Pool: (27/[27])

The tether which binds you to your mortal form is connected not only to what you think is your original body, but also to this copy you've made and in turn to the other, lesser, version of your consciousness. The tether is horribly frayed, many of the strings which compose the cord seem as though on the cusp of breaking apart, connected to your twined husk by only the barest strips of material. Oddly, both copies look somewhat shorter than you feel they ought to. As though neither quite matches with your perception of yourself. Something to investigate later, perhaps.

Regardless, you need to do something about the matter of your split consciousness. Severing half of the threads would destroy the shell of one of the corpses, thus destroying that version of your consciousness. However, doing say may render the body little more than a lifeless corpse, thus ruining its utility as a base upon which to construct a golem.

>Try to recombine with the other version of you, perhaps by repairing the frayed strings which compose the tether.
>Just wait for a time. The copy of you is threadbare and ragged. Given time, it will dissipate well before you do.

I'm not really sure I'd want to know anything about lichdom, primarily because as soon as it's an option people will vote the hell out of it despite the fact that we're already on pretty thin ice with the gods, I can't imagine they take hiding your soul from them so you can't die with good grace.
>>
>>509072
technically we already have access to it because of the phoenix belt.
>>
>>509073
I suppose it depends on how the phoenix belt works, if it prevents your technical death by keeping your soul attached to your body then you aren't really cheating the gods, it's more like a near-death experience. Now if it works by locking your soul away in a separate construct while your body is rebuilt and then the soul is implanted, then that would certainly piss the gods off.
>>
>>509082
It rips off a chunk of your soul to somehow make a copy as a replacement in case you die. It's one use only, and yet, it somehow exists after presumably having been used before.

That mystery itself is interesting enough, but the real kicker is the implication that the runes on it can manipulate divine essence. I'm guessing it's something the Stooges have been involved in creating, and it's probably not something we can reverse-engineer quite yet.

Also, it doesn't really matter they don't like you hiding your soul if they can't actually, y'know, find your soul. Honestly, why we still haven't created that mind, vys and soul-concealing artifact is beyond me.
>>
>>509072
> Thinking we still give a fuck about the Gods.

I'm saying we steal other people's souls, wipe them, copy our soul over it and cram it into golems that we can switch our consciousness into if we die.
>>
>>509084
That's not how souls work. Read the goddamn quest.
>>
>>509083
we dont even need to create an artifact for that when we can just shaping arts our tattoos into incorporating those runes.
>>
File: tegaki.png (7 KB, 600x600)
7 KB
7 KB PNG
>>509083
Oh yea, you're right about the soul chunk thing I couldn't remember if how it worked was ever explained. The other implication with this belt is that not only can it manipulate divine essence, it creates some sort of bond between the chunk of soul it has stored and our soul, so that changes will be mirrored with the new body. To me that seems like something that could be very dangerous if you were to attune to it and it got into the wrong hands, a direct link to your soul is not something you'd want an enemy to have. Not that we can even use the belt but still, whoever we do eventually give it too will have to be very careful about protecting it.
>>
>>509087
Yeah, but we might need to turn it off. There's always the chance it would prevent us from seeing our own metaphysical bits, and it's almost certain it would do weird shit to the brooches and our connection with Zahak.

Tattoos are always on.
>>
>>509085
We just gotta replace enough of their experiences with our own memories. Like with the shaping arts.
>>
>>509090
That only accounts for one component of the soul. The least essential, self-replacing part.
>>
>>509091
So? Is there any intrinsic difference between on soul and another besides that, barring souls tainted by spirits and dragons?

That's the part that makes the "self" no?

Or are you worried that the lack of continuity will mean it's not really "us" just a copy?
>>
>>509095
>That's the part that makes the "self" no?
No. It literally isn't. Memories have no self-image, as that is located in the shell, and beyond that is the divine shard which also differ from each other.

You really need to go reread the last 50 or so threads.
>>
>>509097
I thought the whole point was to alter the idea of "self" in order to change your physical shape though, no? Like, that's why we changed after ascending because we were making changes to the shell.
>>
>>509097
Also, isn't our copy in the paramatma or whatever just our memories? I don't remember them taking any slices off our divine shard or anything.
>>
>>509101
>>509103

Yes, and both memories and your core personality are different things from that. The core personality bit is debatable, but the fact remains that your shard is an essential part of what makes you you, and we know pretty much nothing about it, can't manipulate it or duplicate it. Which is sad, because all we need to do is try to channel nature directly into the shard to get some of Soma's sweet lore moneyshot all over us.

The Paramatma copied our entire soul, with all of its components. It's ludicrously powerful, has its own separate reality, in which it is presumably the creator and the reigning god. So I buy that it can copy the shard.

When it copied us, we saw from two different perspectives simultaneously, just like now, which proves it copied the shell, and the copy had all our memories, which proves it copied the husk. There is no proof about the shard, and we don't know if it created the materials for the copied soul or brought raw blanks and transformed them as you wanted to.
>>
>>509089
the ignore limitations on our soul could mean that we can turn it off when we want. if not, then we could make it conditional.

>which has no advantages over just making it an artifact you can take off whenever
>>
>>509153
you can make the same argument with contain+soul and there are no negatives to it since we got that trait.
>>
>>509162
When you're suggesting an alternative to something, you're supposed to present an advantage for it. Yes, one other than "well nothing bad will happen probably maybe."
>>
>>509177
There have been multiple occasions where we have not had access to our artifacts. This is more likely to happen whenever we go outside of our body where we need it most. Having the runes in tattoo form means we are never in a situation where we cant use it, just like contain+soul. Your claim that it was going to do bad things was also based on a possibility and one that I gave two counter-arguments for. You need to use equal scales if you are actually going to prove something.
>>
>>509197
Not really. You provided zero ideas on how to make it conditional anyway. It's not like you can cut the vys flow to where all your vys comes from, and since the tattoos are flowing, loose designs which seem unsuitable for complex runic arrays, logic gates and the like wouldn't really work.

And I'll reiterate why the "maybe we can turn it off" point doesn't work: If an idea will possibly remove your access to using your vys and soul and some of your best artifacts, it's a better idea to just not do it because pretty much every alternative is a better one than that.

It's also simply not true we need to hide the most when we're outside our body. We're the most powerful when we're outside our body. And most of the time we're in our body. And we're not planning on going into the void anytime soon, certainly not without our meatsuit around us.

Look, I like taking risks, and I like experimenting. We all do. But if we ever do get more of those sweet sweet tattoo ingredients, maybe we should first try the most drastic shit on someone else before we go and risk permanently mutilating ourselves metaphysically. It's not like we can't easily steal the secret of dragon tattoos easily by now.
>>
>>509199
Making the conceal rune conditional was just a back up if for some reason we could not control it like contain. We are only at our most powerful when we ascend, which we only happen to leave our body to do. If we were at our most powerful outside of it normally, then we would not need our body to do the gate ritual. You also claim that we are not going into the void anytime soon. which you have no real way of knowing since we may be forced into it by circumstance or anon's voting. Following up, you say that even if we were in the void, there is nothing to worry about because we are in the body that weakens us. There is also no need to do this on us first anyways, since we are capable of making full body clones which retain the tattoo's effects. We also don't need those ingredients because we can just use shaping arts which we also need to level up anyways.
>>
>>509212
Those are quite the straws you're reaching for. The void and the gate ritual are both irrelevant to us. Maybe something will teleport us into the void and also take away our artifacts? That's far from being an actual reason.

The back up is absolutely necessary for telepathy, soul surgery, or being perceived by spirits. Not just a throwaway idea. It's a retarded idea drink a serum that might make you invisible forever with no way to become visible again ever. But hey, thanks for admitting you have no idea how to turn it off. Other than trying to assure me the trait we don't know would apply to this does in fact apply to this with no evidence whatsoever.

The gate ritual is not relevant to anything since it's probably being watched over by Surya, what with him being Customs to existence and all, and us being illegal goods. It has nothing to do with whether you're ascended, or

That whole body weakening bit is just my point going way over your head. Taking your body into the void or not is a matter of meditation vs. physical journey. Ascending is irrelevant, since it lasts only a minute or so at best. We'll be weak with or without the body. Only with the body, you get artifacts, including one that can hide you metaphysically.

The shaping arts don't give you magical ingredients that can enchant your soul. They alter memories and self-image. It's not even something likely enough to spend a single post on exploring honestly. Chryssa has a better chance of carving "Chryssa was here" on our shell than us carving the runes wherever they are located in the soul, instead of either cracking some part of the soul and losing sanity for nothing, or dealing temporary damage which would heal itself. The tattoos are in all likelihood something akin to a draconic ritual unrelated to shaping arts.

There is no point to tattooing a clone of us when we don't even know if the cloning worked yet, or if it would affect one or both of the shells as they are connected with strings, or if it would even work on a soulless body since we can only actually inhabit one of them with all of our soul instead of just the shell.

Jesus, I must be really bored. All this autism for something too useful for anon to ever vote for. This is just a waste of time.

You examine the threads binding you to your replica in a little more detail, trying to determine where would be the optimal place to sever it should you wish to preserve the body but destroy what you can only assume is some manner of vestigial consciousness. It looks like the tether runs through first your original form, or what you assume is your original form, and then splits in two. One half passes through what you think should indicate your copy's body and then connects to its externalized shell. The other connects directly to your 'true self' as it were, the thickest branch of the tether.

As usual, it's difficult to tell exactly where the individual threads making up the tether begin or end. They obviously unravel themselves and continue on into infinity after a time, but it almost seems like the threads fold in on themselves from two directions, pinching in towards you and then splitting off to your other self. It is not, as you'd originally thought, the threads flowing through you in a linear manner.

This revelation in mind, you decide against severing any cords. You get the sense that no matter what result that may have, it wouldn't be good. Obviously it would present the threat of ripping a hole in reality, and you readily admit your own ignorance regarding what it would mean for your other self. At first you'd thought it would just lead to the collapse of their shell, but thinking back on it you can't really be certain. Chryssa's soul hadn't retained its husk when you replicated her, so perhaps severing the connection would create some sort of maddened twin with only fragmentary memories at its disposal.

You decide to try and repair the split threads rather than sever them, but this is a task easier decided upon than carried out. Obviously you'll need to employ your expertise in the art of Metal magic, but the manner in which you'll need to apply that expertise isn't immediately clear. In the end, you decide to start off with something simple. You just try to reinforce the tether at the point in which it first splits in half, in the hope that may offer some manner of insight.

The strings do not exactly leap to obey your every command, but the resistance you meet in aligning to suit your goals is minor in comparison to the fight they put up against your attempts to replicate yourself initially. You're able to work slowly along the tether, binding the thread as you go. Having two versions of you working on the same task is initially rather disorienting but you manage to adjust the flow of your husk to avoid being wasteful.
>Vys Pool: (13/[13])

(1/2)
>>
Both versions of you are starting to look rather ethereal by the time you reach the very end of the tether. The weaker half is barely there at all, little more than a suggestion of form surrounding a tarnished silver sphere spotted with bits and pieces of gold. The original version of you doesn't look much better, so weakened by your efforts that you're able to see through the surface of your skin and vaguely make out the form of your own gilded shell. However, you muster what reserves you have for this final push, fusing replica with the original.

You try merely touching your replica's husk, the thin lines of gold which coat your fingers writhing as your fingers dig slowly into the surface of your copy's shell, but that seems to do little besides make both versions of you deeply uncomfortable. Instead, you focus on the remnants of husk which form the body of the replicant. Focusing your will, you're able to easily drain what remains of your copy's power. Your perspective ceases to be split between two different points in this subjective reality you've created for yourself.
>Vys Pool: (15/[15])

However, the shell, reduced to its original silver coloration, is forced back into the confluence of threads which you know indicates its physical body. The tether for the most part has been repaired, only the thinnest wisp of golden light extend from your chest to the body of the replica. You attempted to heal these as well, but it created what can only be described as an immensely unpleasant sensation. As though hot iron rods were being driven repeatedly into your spine. Not something you'd be eager to attempt a second time.

Investigating the other Mik's shell yields something of interest. The surface of the shell, when you let your hand rest against it, is entirely solid. No longer does it yield to your touch as it did a moment ago. Perhaps, with proper care, you might carve a runic array onto the shell.

From what we know of souls and enchanting, we'll probably be making a Husk battery. However, while it has a shell that can hold the husk. However, it doesn't have a shard to "keep the husk in it's gravitas." On the bright side, since it doesn't have a shard, then there can be no interaction between the shard and body to create a Mind, so we probably don't have to worry about a Frankenstein-ian abomination killing us in our sleep. Maybe.

I believe this outcome is highly unlikely. When we cloned Chryssa, her clone had not husk or Shard, just the shell. The black stuff keeping everything inside. The realm is said by the Cat to be specifically attuned to our Soul. Whether that means the Husk or Shard itself, I don't really know.

Here's a thought guys. We don't necessarily have to stay on our Ascended form for the enchantment. It burns 10 husk a turn, and is only necessary really for highly complex arrays. With the three run array proposed, it'll be far more efficient to exit the form and proceed. Then use it again when it's time for the much more complex Finalization.

As per usual, inscription rolls are pass/fail.

You also do not have enough vys to turn this failure into a success, so there's no spending.

>>510934
The DC was honestly just dictated by the rules of enchanting. It's a composite enchantment because it consist of Sustain+(Create+Soul), you're enchanting the shell itself so you're tampering with something which comes imbued with a significant number of enchantments to begin with, and you only have ~21% of your total vys pool remaining so you've pretty severely reduced yourself.

You will get a point of experimentation vys from all this, so it's not a total failure.

One has to wonder why nine out of ten ancient artifacts have "is a parasite" as one of their central design tenets. It's almost as if spirits/interlopers were deliberately making them in order to enslave the ignorant through their reckless use of random doodads several millennia later.

Or maybe after an Enchanter accumulates enough knowledge of the God's language to actually make something fucking useful they're batshit insane and think all of their artifacts should carry some kind of draconian punishment. You know, for kicks.

Hmm, creating the enchantment would probably take 2-3 meditations with how complex it having to do with wireless transmission of vys. Then theres a matter of setting up some sort or Vys master battery, then linking ourself to it. Then creating safety features to prevent the thing from exploding or frying us to a crisp the moment it gets full.

And this all ignores the facts that and decent mage would see through it in a second. AND the fact that it not only admits to the world (because anyone one who can meditate could easily figure it out) someone has rediscovered enchanting and is mass producing artifacts but it leads the directly to us.

So no, it's not a good idea.
>>

Truthfully, you don't really remember why you're here or what you were supposed to be doing originally. There's some vague notion of golems clinging to the vestiges of your memory, but it's at best indistinct. Thus, you decide now might be a good time to take a break and rest for a while lest you begin to forget more important aspects of yourself, like who your parents are and what your name is.

Reentering your actual body is an odd and unpleasant experience. As before the return to your strictly mortal perception of reality is both unwanted and unwelcome but unfortunate inevitable. The world just seems to lack some notes of color which are present when you're unfettered by your physical form. More than that though, there's something just not quite right about the way your body feels. Rising to your feet, you realize immediately what's changed.

Your replica is mimicking your every move. When you move your arm, so to does it. When you take a step forward, so to does it. Except, its movements are far less graceful than your own, and it seems to have the ability to influence you. The end result is that you shortly find yourself falling to the floor in a coil of flailing limbs and twitching muscles. This would not be such a problem if you were not so immensely exhausted.

After a few minutes of struggling with the uncoordinated movements of your soulless twin, you eventually manage to assume a meditative pose. It's less than ideal, but it could certainly be worse. You reach into your cloak, a gesture which your clone attempts to replicate, but considering it lacks clothing, fails to. You should really think about working out with Darzi, because you're terribly thin and lanky.

Regardless, you extract the sleeve of fused stone from your cloak and slide it carefully over your right arm. You don't like using this particular artifact, but you don't think you have much choice here. This is more than a complex procedure, this is the soul of what could potentially become a separate version of you. If you screw this up, you might not get a second chance. Sinking into a deep meditative trance, fostered partially by the exhaustion which racks your frame, you're shortly sitting before the smooth silvered sphere of your replica's shell.

Focusing your vys into what you perceive as the palm of your hand, you reach out a nonexistent finger and begin to gently carve into the surface of the copy's shell. It resist, in fact at several points you're forced to go back and retrace your efforts or repair some flaw in the shell created by your attempt to mark its surface. The shell is surprisingly fragile, cracks spiderwebbing outwards whenever you run across what you quickly come to realize is the grain of the material.

>>
File: Gunay Darzi - Colored.jpg (136 KB, 1294x2000)

Eventually your efforts are rewarded, carved upon the replica's shell is a nearly flawless circle containing within the rune for sustain, connected in turn to an inner circle hosting the runes for create and soul. You can't be certain what the effect will be, you've never had cause to use this enchantment in the past. You doubt it will create a new divine shard, everything you know about divinity suggest that it can be neither created nor destroyed. However, considering that it is after all carved upon the surface of a mortal shell it may have the effect of creating a new consciousness, or at the very least a useful servant without a mind of its own.

Your goal accomplished, you rise to your feet and drag your nude body, cold to the touch you note, into the meditation chamber at the center of the room. Hopefully there it will be preserved, in the pitiless black of the chamber. That done you shuffle out the door and through the foyer to the stairwell. You realize innately that your companions have retired for the evening. Profectus and Chryssa rest within their respective rooms. Devika sleeps curled up underneath one of Zahak's wings in his domed nest. Fulvia is tucking Mortia into bed, the latter having passed out earlier in the alchemy lab. Curiously, Darzi lies not within her assigned room but within yours, her thoughts muddled and chaotic.

Your private suite is just as lavish as you remember it being. Thick woven carpets cover the floor and pillows lie scattered about the room. Even at this late hour, though you suppose time has little meaning in your realm, candles provide just enough light to navigate by. Despite the fact they lie arranged around loose papers and ancient tomes they fail to spark a flame, a fact you're immensely grateful for.

Glancing briefly over the balconies which grace either edge of your room, you're surprised to see the chambered beyond have changed since your last visit. No longer are they bare stone rotundas. In their place rest vast collections of mosaic depicting the process, so far as you can tell, of carving and finalizing the enchantments upon your copy's soul. It's only as you wander into your room to find Darzi, barely clothed, sprawled out over the covers and fast asleep that you realize you've yet to remove the sleeve from your arm.

Sighing wearily, you attempt to pull your arm free of the fused stone armor. You fail. Try as you might, it feels as though a hundred needles have driven themselves into the flesh of your arm. Every attempt sends shooting pains through your body which, even dulled by Water magic, are enough to give you pause. With a reluctant grunt, you carve through the flesh of your shoulder until the bone is exposed. After first ensuring that no tendrils have crept into your torso, you sever the arm completely and leave it there on the floor for now, drained of blood.
>Vys Pool: (9/[15])

>>
A new arm sprouts in its place, growing longer than the previous one. It lends you an odd, lopsided appearance, but frankly you can't be bothered at the moment to concern yourself with the matter. Presumably ascending has further altered your self image, but that can wait. For now, you desire only sleep. Peeling the covers out from under your friend, companion, and lover, you strip yourself of your robes and crawl beneath the sheets. Darzi's hectic thoughts calm as you wrap your elongated arm around her abdomen, and it isn't long before you drift off into the pleasant grip of oblivion.

And all the people freaking the fuck out about the stone arm.
>>
>>512224
It's always the same, y'know. Just people making big out of what isn't like the mask and the mask never really did shit because we took care of it, yeah?
>>
>>512230
Putting on the mask was a great choice. It got us some delicious lore about the Five Gods and the Fall of Hiacia.

In exchange, we got angry sometimes and lost sanity over time, which then stopped when we jewed sanity regeneration "killing" Kadir. And then the problem solved itself permanently because Paramatma.

Metaphorically speaking, we should put on every Mask we ever find.
>>
>>512254
Even if the mask was a terrible decision, it's still valuable because it's a big part of Mik's characterization. It really laid the framework for who Mik is as a person. It's probably the first defining moment of Banished Quest.
>>
>>512006
>a gesture which your clone attempts to replicate, but considering it lacks clothing, fails to
Oy Vey Soma, the clone should have the same clothes on that we have minus the cloak. When we copied Chryssa we also copied all her clothes, so why wouldn't the same be true for us?

You're just trying to jew us out of a fresh set of clothes for no good reason.
>>
>>512268
You know, I'm pretty sure at least one of the robes we lost we paid around 50 gold for.

I'm doubting Mik's true jewing abilities at this point. A true Jew would at least enchant clothing against damage, dirt and flame, or at least make a gold machine since we actually have all the runes needed to replicate any unenchanted object.
>>
>>512291
Tbh Mik was complaining a short while ago about not having enough sets of robes. Why don't we just make like 20 copies while we're here?
>>

>>

What would you all say the best decision in all of Banished Quest was?
>>

eeeh, i'd say starting as a vatis. but that's a personal opinion, i'm just a sucker for well explained magic. compared to a lot of fiction, that is
>>
>>515400
This has one of the best magic systems I've ever seen.
>>

yep, i remember i got really excited when we learned to meditate the right way. such a cool moment in this quest in terms of magic
>>
>>515392
Zahak, of course.
>>
>>515400
Agreed. I feel like either way we would have been drawn to the magical arts, but it's been the best decision. It's just damned fun.
>>
>>515580
here is a happy thought.
Soma has said if he ever reruns this quest that magic and some other routes are locked out.(we can still gm one element though)
So that time we can focus more on the military side of shit.
>>
>>515659
it could be interesting. if soma ever reruns ( though i'm guessing he would just writestart that novel of his instead) i wouldn't mind getting a setting more focused on the political side. maybe becoming a fledgling king trying to resurrect the Rhynian empire or, i think soma hinted that this was a possible path we could've taken, being the head of one the noble houses and rising to the top in Samjam politics and trade
>>
>>515734
he said another way we could have gotten was going down the military route and founding/making our own kingdom.
>>
>>515580
>>515659
Soma also said that we should've started as master at water and with 20 vys and that vys should've been harder to increase.
>>
>>515659
Well I suppose this quest is gonna do a pretty good job at the whole discovering lost magics and stuff. The next one might as well be different. I've just had a magic boner, like I'm sure most of you do, since I was a kid.
>>
>>516257
>>515659
If he does another quest in the same setting I hope we play with another race.
>>
>>516282
But not being immortal I'd for losers
>>
>>516320
Get an artifact that does that.

Dwoveth Beserker!
>>
>>516339
Elven bard, pure cha and int. Most combat has to be avoided or we have to use dangerous magical items that can damage is, make us hallucinate, or even posses us. But we know the immortal ritual and we're actually as old as the rhynian empire's downfall which is why we have such high int and cha and probably master or GM in a school or two, but not high combat spec and medium-low vys pool. Prone to internal rambling and nostalgic flashbacks.
>>
>>516466
>Most combat has to be avoided or we have to use dangerous magical items that can damage is, make us hallucinate, or even posses us
We'd use it everytime then.
>>
>>516466
That's some straight Mary Sue shit right there.

Please never make a quest.
>>
>>516660
Do better nerd. It gives us contrast to this quest, a look into another race, and gives Soma a chance to poop out more lore. Don't pretend Mik isn't twice the Mary Sue. Besides, immortal ritual isn't all that rare especially for someone that old. If it does break lore, just make him younger, and shit out more minor lore.
>>
Post literally never ever
>>
Fuck Soma
>>
>>516717
Changing the lore to fit your Mary Sue concept is what makes you terrible.

I would prefer a dwoveth battle mage. They focus on ancient draconic rune carving which is just as interesting as what we currently have but also almost entirely unknown to us.

Plus it's fucking viking dwarves.
>>
>>517591
Well I'm not much of a hardcore lorefag, so I'd appreciate it if you would tell me how that changes lore. When I said shit out more minor lore, I didn't mean change anything. It was poorly phrased, but I meant expand upon more minor events instead of major events like you would if the character had been around for such a long time.

Your proposal, while interesting, would basically end up as another Mik, where we spend multiple threads trying to decide how to minmax or pull off autistic shit. While "charismatic and intelligent elf" isn't original at all, viking dwarf isn't particularly unique either.

By starting with someone at the peak of their natural power, Soma could focus more on lore and character development, still make use of the wonderfully crafted magic system without bogging down threads, and continue to expand upon it in smaller chunks through the involvement of enchanted and magical items.

So what do you think the danger of the create+vys and create+soul arrays are. Soma has hinted at them being dangerous or inefficient before. If those generators are more dangerous than that array we might want to be prepared when we finalize create+soul.

This is actually the correct response to this situation.

All the sane people have left. Only the most self-loathing, most autistic people are still bothering with this quest. Just look at the goddamn audience.

This used to be my favorite quest.

How are we planning on giving Devika the horns she wants? I think it will take to long to get her to GM level with metal or fire. We could try to up shaping arts to meddle with her self image, but I think I have a better idea. We should create a copy of her shell. Then, we figure out which part of copy-Mik's shell corresponds to his horns. Then we replace all of copy-Mik's shell but the horns with Devika's copy shell. Then we see what the result is. We keep refining that until we end up with a Devika that has horns. Then she can have that body.

Easy.
>>
>>530711
It's worth a shot.
>>
>>530711
I think we should meditate with Devika then, once she's finally in trance, paralyze and fuck her.

We'll frame this as Metal training - if she can't fortify her mind against the pleasure then she's never going to make it as a Vatis.
>>
>>530715
This, also, is worth a shot.
>>
>>530715
While I think this idea has merits, I think that a much better idea would be to possess her instead. We can then prostitute out her body as desired. That way she gets the metal magic training from resisting possession and we get the added bonus of being the little girl.
>>
>>530715
What sort of enchantment could we use to increase her pleasure?

Soma is human garbage
>>
>>504017
Reposting this here because I know Soma is going to be a little bitch and not respond to it elsewhere.

Let's be real here: You're deeply narcissistic and that's the only reason you run Banished. Once your interest in that started to wane you jumped ship and tried out LQ and CNQ, but since they weren't especially popular you came crawling back to Banished. Again, you tried out something new and ran that scifi quest on Akun but it failed once more. So when one of your side quests finally took off (because you copied Trick, who is a far superior QM and human being to you) you dropped Banished like an ugly baby and started gagging on GoTfag cock. This is because you aren't interested in telling an interesting, compelling story. All you want is attention, and with your increasing post times and spotty schedule you haven't been getting nearly enough from Banished. Further, I'd post that this is why you dote on your sister so much. Not because you want to fuck her, not because you are genuinely a good person, but because you love having someone rely on you, you fucking adore it when someone looks up to - no, worships you. And we can observe this behavior once more in the way you parcel out information about yourself - informing your playerbase only of your most impressive achievements. "Guys sure I dropped out of high school because I'm a disgusting wastrel, but look, I did this huge turn around and entered university at just 16! Also my parents are rich!". It doesn't fool anyone. You're a pathetic, narcissistic, hollow manchild and you honestly don't deserve all the praise and attention you receive. My recommendation is that you go and take yourself off to a therapist to get yourself institutionalized. I know far too many people like you. You're a cancer upon society and one day you're going to harm a lot of people.

hush now anon, you're scaring the children. i enjoyed CNQ (which i assume is the one where were just a super villan in training. more of a nuisance than outright bad guy) and never really got into LQ.

also, who is trick? what quest did he do?
>>
>>532708
The children need to be scared. They need to know that this is who Soma is. You think he hasn't run just because he's lazy?
He's testing you. He wants to see you grovel and beg and fucking deepthroat him so that you and he know that without him and his quest you're as empty as he is.

Trick runs You Awake in Westeros. I won't say he's a good person or a good QM but in comparison to Soma he's a fucking paragon of humanity.

not scared anon, but resilient and unbending. i think that the transition over to /qst has really done the most damage though. at least on /tg he actually completed a full session (usually) before leaving and if he did have to leave early he would make a post in pastebin about it. now there is no reason to keep going since threads stay up so long and can have massive size and still not fall off the board

first rule of BQ is that it never ends. even when it should have when we put on the mask and the subsequent things happened, it didn't. even when we woke up the dracolich and it went to dominate our mind it didn't. even when we put on the elven king crown, which most certainly should have ended us, it didn't. i'll grant that only one (the dracolich) i would put to soma giving us a free bone, but we have been lucky alot

Taking money for his writing would be the ultimate actualization of his narcissism, yet, I doubt he'd ever actually take that step.
He's well aware that a Patreon would kill a lot of the good will (and thus attention he'd receive) of his fanbase.
If he were ever low on money, however, I have no doubt that he would readily take advantage of the few dedicated autists he's gathered here in his fanbase - Rob, for instance.

On a more serious note, I feel I should probably address the fact I've been an enormous faggot lately. It's not that I've dropped BQ, or that I don't enjoy running anymore. It's mostly just exhaustion. My schedule is such that I'm in school for a solid eight hour block most of the week, starting at 7AM and running until 3PM, and for the first time in my educational career I'm taking almost entirely math classes. The only history course I'm taking is a senior capstone, because I've otherwise finished out the degree.

That means I actually have to try in all of my classes. I can't just sit down and slam out a paper the day before it's due, there are test to study for and notes to take and geometrical constructions to run through. So frankly, I've just been exhausted. I come home and don't really want to do anything at all, can't focus, et cetera. Usually I force myself to do homework and that's about all the effort I can muster for a day.

So yeah, mostly it's the stress of classes that's been preventing me from running a productive thread. I sat down this morning at 10 AM to write and at 12PM I had a paragraph written, a shitty paragraph at that. I've had most of the day to relax and take my mind off shit, went for a drive, got some coffee. Plus it's a three day weekend, so hopefully now I'll actually be able to put words on the page without hating the results.

Ideally, as the semester progresses I'll be able to slip into some kind of schedule or routine that isn't quite so soul crushing. Until then I've been considering the possibility of switching to a once a week schedule, but for now at least I think I'm going to at least try to run twice a week. I don't know, I suppose the take away from this rant is that I realize I've been a real asshole lately but I've tried not to be. Also that I intend to run tomorrow, and I think there's a good chance I'll be able to.

>>
>>532971
I've been contemplating that, and I've even been sort of attempting it, but it's not running that's the problem really. It's the writing itself that I can't quite manage. I try to write a post and the words just aren't there.
>>
>>532982
Have you tried procrastinating? No jokerino. Don't sit down and try to write. Instead sit down to do literally anything else. The more you dislike it, the better. Then, if your mind begins to drift to Banished Quest, just let it for a bit. When your juice cup starts filling, switch to whatever you write with, and poor it out onto the metaphorical paper. Then, when post is finished, ride that wave of pride and satisfaction back to that other thing.

>>
>>532982
I understand a full schedule senpai. Hard to quest if you work 110+ hour weeks, too, but education is different or so I've been told.

But this is something you should tell people during and ahead of time, the promises don't really make up for anything but I think y'know that.
Just a little "I can't commit to a schedule at this point in time, will post sporadically," is really what most lurkers like myself are looking for, or updating twitter whenever you've managed a post, rather than popping into a thread and seeing the fustercluck of meaningless beration and interim shitposting.
>>

>Of course, this is assuming his parents don't find out about what he truly is and cut him off.

>>533590
That's understandable, I don't know. I think I really, really want to maintain some sort of schedule and I'm reluctant to admit 'defeat' by saying I just can't guarantee a thread at any given time. I'm still not fully willing to just give up on running regularly, but I do think I'll switch to a less demanding method of posting. Like, maybe one or two post a day and then one or two real sessions which involve me sitting down and writing for a good stretch of several hours. I'd update on twitter with every update to the thread, barring of course true sessions which I'd only announce.

I don't know, I need to give it more thought.

I don't know what math classes you're taking but standard college curriculum has things start hard and rush harder. Mathematics education has a long history of always keeping things difficult as soon as the current material gets easy, since the first two quarters are just basics of what comes next. In other words it's probably not going to get easier, perhaps this isn't much a spoiler but there ya go.

Anyway, everyone needs a break sometime and defeat is a strong word for some temporary writing abstinence. The few people that can be an output machine the majority of their time pay for it later in health and dysfunction, so there's that. Anyshit, hope you think about it well and find an answer much considered.

It's kinda baffling to see Soma still use the word "schedule" as if it's been something relevant to this quest.

There hasn't been a schedule for over 100 threads now. The posts come whenever. Sure, he says they'll come Monday or Friday or whenever, but the sessions are run in random intervals and attract whoever the fuck happened to be around that time. People who stay up or plan to participate are left hanging with no thread, and again the day after when he promised he'd run, and after three days of silence, he'll show up and run off-schedule.

And at the end of the thread, he'll say "next thread Monday as usual" as if he actually runs during planned times instead of just announcing run times according to a fake schedule and actually running whenever.

But he actually thinks schedules are a thing for his quests. Amazing.
>>
>>533770
Yeah. It's funny in a shitty way.

BQ has literally and provably (just by checking post dates and run times in the archived threads) been off schedule for the majority of spring and summer.

There has been no schedule most of this year, I sure as shit doubt that's changing.

Thank you, Soma, for making my days a little better. I appreciate your writing, and would rather wait for your writing than have you get burnt and never continue. Take care of yourself first, and write if you can and want to. I can wait, thank you.

Nah but I really am almost done. I'm writing the finalization scene right now, and that's the last little bit I need to do before posting it. Well I mean, that and the results of the finalization, but that shouldn't take up too much space.

SEE YOU HALLOWEEN
>>
You don't dream, nor do any otherworldly entities deign to interrupt your well earned rest. Thus for the first time in who knows how long you're able to sleep soundly through the night and awake the next morning under your own power, to the delectable scent of freshly baked bread. Extricating yourself reluctantly from Darzi's grip, you sit up to find one of your four-armed ape servants staring at you from the other end of the bed. Three of its hands hold aloft a tray bearing plates of fried flat bread, various fruit preserves, and fresh yogurt spiced with sumac and thyme.
>Vys Pool: (73/73)

A gesture brings the squat creature forward, and it gently places the tray down in your lap before taking its leave of your suite. Darzi is only just beginning to stir in the absence of your comforting presence at her back, but you decide to dig in on your own. Plucking up a gilded spoon and placing a generous dollop of yogurt atop one of the perfectly round little disk of bread, you focus for a time on enjoying your breakfast.

The food taste wonderful, subtle notes of citrus and mint complementing the bread. However, it's not exactly what you'd call filling. It maintains its form and substance only so long as you're chewing, the moment you swallow it's as if it never existed at all. At first it's a little nauseating, the sensation akin to swallowing air, but after a time you grow used to it. The coffee served to accompany your breakfast is similarly fake, but again at least it taste good. You'll probably need to dip into your rations at some point once you've returned to the base reality, but until then you'll satisfy yourself with what's available.

Darzi rouses herself at long last, stretching luxuriously as she slides out from under the covers. She wears little more than a strip of cloth to bind her breast, but seems unconcerned by her present lack of modesty. Still half-asleep she languidly drapes her arms across your shoulders and leans her weight against your side. You take the liberty of slathering a bit of strawberry preserves across a piece of fried flatbread and offer no complaint as she plucks it gently from the palm of your hand.

On some unconscious level, you realize you're among the last to awaken. Chryssa sits outside the doors to your tower in meditation, attempting you believe to form some manner of whirlpool in the surging tides which surround your estate. Meditating upon Water magic then, though her chosen method seems pitiably simple. Perhaps you ought to discuss more appropriate task upon which she might focus her mind before resuming your journey into Elaudia?

Meanwhile, Zahak seems to be showing off his mastery of Fire magic for Devika's benefit. He's cast an elaborate illusion upon the wall of his palace running through your battle some few weeks ago with the enormous worm-creature which guarded that abandoned temple of Pani. Devika seems quite taken with the display, though there's something quite off about her. Her mind is elsewhere, thoughts rendered indiscernible to you by some manner of interference.

Fulvia is in the alchemy lab, carefully pulling down glass vials and filling them with regents in preparation for some experiment or another. You can only assume she'll be assisting Mortia with whatever it is she's been up to lately, though at the moment she's fast asleep in her room and shows no signs of waking up anytime soon. Profectus is likewise sprawled across his bed, an empty bottle of wine held close to his chest. You wonder if he brought that with him from the base reality, because you doubt someone could actually get drunk off the alcohol you're able to manifest in your realm.

You spend a few more minutes enjoying the food in comfortable silence, before your thoughts return to the facsimile you manufactured the night before. Your other body lies face down in the strange black fluid which fills your meditative chamber, as cold and lifeless as any corpse. Its heart is still and it lacks a mind of any sort but on some intrinsic level you understand that it is real, quite unlike the food arrayed before you or the bed on which you lie.

Thus it's with some minor reluctance that you finally break the silence, carefully maneuvering the tray of food off your lap. “As much as I'd like to stay here a while longer, there's work to be done in the workshop. I manufactured a copy of myself and intend to see whether or not I can't turn it into a golem of some sort.”

Darzi sighs, clinging to you a moment longer before wordlessly slipping away. She climbs off the bed and pads lightly over to her neatly folded pile of clothes, washed since the last time you saw them. You're afforded an enviable view as she bends over to retrieve the light, silken trousers and loose shirt she's taken to wearing underneath her armor as of late. The enormous suit of Elaudian steel itself stands vigil along the wall, its surface free of any cracks, seams or flaws.

Your own clothes have likewise been washed and folded while you slept, either a result of some subconscious desire on your part or perhaps the work of your ape-like servants. Regardless, you take a moment to slough the flesh off your bones, watching as pockets of your skin met like wax before a flame into a puddle of rotten, gelatinous meat. Exposed bone is reduced to little more than dust under the onslaught of your will, and in a matter of but a few minutes you've reshaped yourself in accordance with the latest alteration of your self-image.

You don't notice anything immediately different. Your tattoos extend no further, twisting in upon themselves as they reach your shoulders and chest. Your horns are likewise as you remember them, curving elegantly around the sides of your head until they twist upwards just a few inches above your brow. They sit in the periphery of your vision, as a crown of sorts. However, as you begin to wrap your lower body in that curious garment you purchased from the market of Tel Lakud you notice that if you were to simply wrap it as you had the day before, it would fall only to your mid-calf.

It takes some trial and error on your part, but eventually you get the dhotar tied about your waist. That done you slip on the black vest you purchased the other day and tie your blue silken sash about your waist. The turban is the final, and most difficult, aspect of your wardrobe to put on. Tying it around your horns is not nearly so easy as one might think, but you figure it out eventually.

You're still not really used to wearing so little, but apparently this is the sort of thing a wealthy adventurer trekking across the jungles of Elaudia is expected to wear. Actually, you're probably a little overdressed judging by the reaction of the tailor you purchased this strange outfit from. Not that it particularly matters. With your mastery of magic you could probably keep yourself cool in the mouth of a volcano, the jungle should be simple by comparison.

Turning around, you're momentarily disoriented by just how greatly your perspective has shifted since just a few moments ago. Your mind rebels against the bed being so low to the ground, and the ceiling so close to your head, and Darzi being so surprisingly short. Every memory you have of the woman suggest you stand more or less eye to eye, but now you're actually forced to look down at her. She's nearly a full head shorter than she was a moment ago.

Of course, you quickly realize that it's not she who's grown shorter, it's you who's grown taller. You wonder passively if this sort of thing is going to happen every time you ascend beyond the confines of your mortal form. Will you one day be a ten foot tall monstrosity formed from swirling golden lines across black flesh, with a crown of horns and eyes the color of brilliant gold?

On one hand, you don't think you'd mind that fate. Being able to terrify lesser men with a glance, and all because of the sheer power at your disposal. On another, the idea of transforming into a creature no longer even recognizable as Samjan is cause for some minor concern. It's a distant concern at the moment, but at this rate that won't be the case for much longer.

(3/5)
>>
Rather than waste any more time pondering the future, you commit yourself to the task at hand. That being finalizing the enchantment you placed upon the shell of your replica's soul the night before. You leave Darzi with a brief kiss, one which she's surprised to find she has to stand on the tips of her toes to manage, and then wander out into the hallway beyond the door.

One of your bestial servants holds a sign pointing you variously to the corners of the estate. Up the stairs lies the statue garden, the shrine, and the Chamber of Communion, whatever in Pani's name those are. Down the stairs lies the baths, the foyer, the sparring ground, the lab, the workshop, the holding cells, and various other facilities created by your subconscious mind for your any and every need.

Descending the stairs you shortly find yourself in the solitude of your workshop and carefully pry open the hatch sealing the meditation chamber shut. Your copy lies face down in the pool of black liquid, your every subtle movement sending writhing in place. Its movements seem unrestricted, perhaps explaining why you've not had any trouble walking about the tower as of late. That changes the moment you grab it by the shoulders and begin to drag it out of the darkened chamber. Its kicking legs give you no end of trouble, and before long you've fallen to the floor alongside your now stunted clone. You're forced to crawl your way into the chamber itself, flopping lifelessly into the lukewarm, buoyant fluid within.

The chamber seals itself shut of its own volition, and robbed of all sensation, in a room devoid of light, you shortly begin to lose track of which direction you're facing. There's a vague sensation of movement, but you're weightlessly floating along in what, so far as you're able to discern, is nothing at all. The disorientation shortly resolves itself into an overwhelming sense of calm, and before long the blackness of the chamber is replaced by a blinding, all-pervasive white light with no obvious source. You've slipped into a trance without really even attempting to, and in short order you've stripped away the haze of ambient vys and replaced it with the pitiable field of gleaming stars, red and gold and blue, each one marking some portion of the divine essence of your companions.

Then of course there's tarnished silver surface of your copy's shell, a meticulously carved runic array ingrained upon its surface. You're almost surprised to find that it's survived the night. Reaching out the formless embodiment of your will, a force which in this place is omnipresent, you're able to imbue the symbols carved upon its surface with a measure of your power. They begin to glow softly against the backdrop of the infinite void, and it's with the careful hands of a seamstress that you pluck the glowing lines from its surface and shape them into a single, unerringly straight line.

(4/5)
>>
You need do nothing more than will it to be so to reveal the endless network of golden threads which compose reality at its most basic level. Allowing your mind to alight upon the few threads which run through the shell itself, you're astonished by the sheer complexity of the web which spirals outwards from this bare handful. There are thousands, if not millions of connections spiraling outwards in every direction from the fabric of the shell, linking not only to the threads which define the body, but to those which define everything in the room. The metal walls of the chamber in which you lie are inextricably linked to the husk of your replica, and to your own as well.

Forced to act on instinct alone, you focus your attention on the confluence of this vast network, a woven circle to which everything else is bound. Imbuing yet more of your power into the gleaming thread of vys held tightly in your metaphysical grasp, you quickly sever the golden ring and slit the manufactured thread into the space created. Reality at first rebels against this violation, but as you are the master of this place you're able to prevent the entire structure of reality from collapsing in upon itself.
>Vys Pool: (68/73)

The effect is immediate. What at first seemed a more or less static construction becomes a great swirling mass, a dance of intertwining threads twisting tightly together and flying suddenly apart. They would seem to move in violation of those basic laws which order the universe, moving through and past one another without disrupting the great pattern at the center of it all.

This endless cosmic dance seems to have some manner of effect upon the soul itself, as the tarnish drains from the silver and a thin sheen of gold begins to form across it's surface. The runes themselves have been washed away under a tide of silver, but clearly they must still be working or otherwise this grand display would have ground to a halt. Curiously enough, many of the threads which once bound you to your replica's husk have now been repurposed, pulled tight against the shell and seemingly acting as a sort of appendage which manipulates the fledgling husk of this creature you've manufactured.

Yet you know on some basic level that the soul, much like the copy itself, is merely a pale imitation of the true article. Allowed to run its course, the enchantment will die off within the hour, leaving you with nothing more than a lifeless corpse and perhaps some excess husk to play with.

When do we finish this shit and work on making a Golem Dragon for Zahak
>>
Your eyes snap open, the threads vanishing only to be replaced by an the same impenetrable darkness which characterize the void. A thin sliver of light appears where the hatch meets the steel, and as you reach forward to shove open the hatch you're blinded by the light of the workshop beyond. Maneuvering in the dark pool is difficult, if only because it's so hard to drag yourself from its inky clutches, but once outside of the sensory deprivation chamber you no longer suffer the spasms and sudden jerking imbalance which plagued you prior to severing the connections between you and your replica.

It lies motionless on the floor, what few remnants of the black substance which fills the chamber having boiled away over the course of however long you spent submerged. Crouching down you place two fingers against your own neck, and are surprised to find that the flesh is warm to the touch. There's a dull, throbbing pulse of blood moving through the creature's veins, and though currently discolored a waxy pale color is slowly creeping into the golem's cheeks.

You're honestly not quite sure what to make of this situation you've found yourself in. Expanding your consciousness quickly reveals that the body lacks a mind of any sort, but it would clearly satisfy all the qualities of a living creature at this point. It possess a husk, a shell, and a beating heart. What more could you ask?

Its eyes snap open, and despite yourself you jolt backwards to put some distance between you and your shorter twin. The golem has no pupils, its eyes are a smooth expanse of white shot through with thin red tendrils of red. It makes no other move to rise or otherwise take action, and though you try to will it to its feet, it offers no response. You can't really communicate with it. You try talking, but that's a useless endeavor. You can't even begin to attempt transferring your thoughts into its mind, as it lacks a mind.

(1/2)
>>
Pacing around your revived corpse, you consider your options here. You could wait patiently for the enchantment to run out, and hope to learn something from the experience. You might also draw a knife across your replica's throat and watch yourself die. A potentially interesting experience, if nothing else. Then of course you could finalize the enchantment. The introduction of a portion of your husk to the clone's shell may yield interesting results. You can't help but think the shell may alter it in some way, though whether that would be enough to make the golem useful remains to be seen. The alternative of course is to inscribe its shell with an enchantment designed to create a mind, but you're not sure how well that would work out considering the complexity you witnessed upon initially finalizing the enchantment designed to create its husk.

>Kill it and be done with this. You'll perhaps try again later.
>Watch it for a time, maybe it's not nearly so mindless as you initially suspected.
>Subject the golem to the ritual of permanency and hope for the best. What's the worst that could happen?

ROOOOOOOOLL ME 3d10+10 (+2 from Shaper, +4 from A Terrible Thing to Waste, +2 from Vatis, +2 from Ring of Acumen) vs DC 30/60

I think this is how I'm gonna do this. Reading memories counts as a simple task for the shaping arts, but doesn't garner the malus associated with being inexperienced. Thus, to read memories you only have to pass a DC 30. However, to actually change the self image, perhaps to bring it line with your own, would require a DC 60. It's simple only because you'd essentially be copying yourself and writing it into the shell of someone who is essentially you, just not quite the current version of you. Trying it on someone who wasn't your clone would be much harder.

So yeah, you automatically fail the DC 60 severely, but let's see if you can read his memories.

Well, at the very least this is an opportunity to practice the Shaping Arts. You've not really dedicated much time to investigating that aspect of magic, and by all accounts it seems to hold quite a lot of potential if you can only get a firm grasp on how it works exactly. Thus you take a seat beside your motionless body, folding your legs beneath you in a meditative pose and allowing your thoughts to gradually slip away, washed away under the steady rhythm of your heartbeat and the rush of blood through your veins.

The blinding white of the ambient vys which pervades your realm comes and goes, replaced in short order by the pinpricks of light which indicate the souls of your companions. Profectus seems to have roused himself at long last, he resides across the hall, in the sparring room with Darzi. Chryssa remains poised outside meditating at the edge of the platform on which your tower sits, the manifestation of her will appearing as an ethereal haze coating the vortex cutting through the water in front of her.

They don't hold your interest though. No, your focus is on the figure sprawled out directly in front of you. Focusing, you're able to bring forth the network of strings which compose your facsimile. Absent the touch of your mind they do not appear as a vast swirling network of golden light, but as little more than a few vibrating strings passing through the empty shell of your copy.

You extend your thoughts, allowing them carefully, gently brush across the strings. As the fingers of a virtuoso plucking the chords of an cithara. Focusing on the threads, you don't really see much of anything if you're being honest. Brief snatches of seemingly random memories, not even all of them your own. Most feature the Cat quite frankly, killing those shadowy minions your artifact spawns, or cleaning himself. Some few feature you as well, speaking with the Cat or on your own. One briefly reveals Profectus scratching himself before switching to a more or less blank field. None of it really makes any sense, and there's nothing of true substance there to be discerned no matter how you manipulate the threads.

Allowing your attention to slip, your mind turns to other things. Like just what is you've really accomplished here by creating some vestigial form of life. Your copy can't really do much of anything at all, nor does it seem useful as a subject upon which to conduct experiments. Briefly, you consider simply killing the poor half-formed abomination off. However, you notice that the threads have taken on a life of their own in the absence of your guidance. They've expanded outwards, not quite in the manner of the mortal mind, and begun to wave about almost like the antennae of some strange insect.

(1/2)
>>
One such thread alights briefly upon your soul before recoiling, and then as a unified mass they surge towards you. As though the teeth of some vile creature they sink into your husk, shredding what memories were contained there and ripping away several enormous chunks of your soul before rapidly snapping back into place, and beginning to integrate these stolen memories into the husk of your clone.
>Vys Pool: (39/[39])

You act quickly, seeking to drain the stolen husk before putting an end to this farce. However, before you're able to cast your spell there's a flash of light, and the husk is gone. In its place is a runic array, glowing a bright, brilliant blue in stark contrast to the pale silver of the creature's shell. No longer do the threads which compose its mind waver aimlessly, they've formed themselves together tightly, warping around the shell in exactly the same manner as your own mind. It's with mild concern that you watch as the ambient vys is pulled from the air and carefully woven into place, creating not the golden casing you're familiar with but instead a pale blue glowing with some manner of perverse internal light.

More than a little concerned you rouse yourself from your meditation with a paralysis spell already creeping down your right arm, leaving the flesh pale and the blood in your veins cold as ice. Your replica lies on the floor, his eyes closed and thoughts a swirling mass of chaotic nonsense. A thousand and one things rush through his mind all at once, rendering any sort of emotion you might have been able to glean unintelligible.

His eyes, your eyes, snap open suddenly. There's no way he could have fully recovered his reserves so rapidly, but he stares at you with the same bright green eyes which rest in your own head. In flawless Rhynian, the likes of which most have not heard since the collapse of the Empire, he poses you a single question. “What by the names of all the gods above and below is the meaning of this detestable little ruse?”

That was awful

I'm gonna expand on it in the opening post of the next thread, on Wednesday hopefully. Starting with Mik trying to explain the last few minutes to his clone, and the whole "I am your creator" thing, and then clone Mik absolutely refusing to believe any of that bullshit.

Next sunday then.

We just need to awaken a different personality in the clone. Near-present Chryssa, Longia Darzi, the Entity, and maybe racist past Mik are all alternative options. We also have divinity and our clone doesn't, so we can leverage that if we really need to. Our companions should be inclined to support us over him, though Fulvia might not.

Zahak should also be able to talk to him, which might convince him of something, though I dunno what.

My vote is that we try to turn the copy into Longia Darzi by bringing to the fore the memories we swapped with her. Then we'd get a second waifu who can communicate with Zahak but also has no divine shard.

So did we just make a Spirit Eater?
>>
I say we imprint the Rhynian Officer mnemonic device we have buried somewhere in our psyche into him. He'll be a degenerate disgusted that he's inhabiting the freakish mutant body of a barbarian.

Clearly we feed to fuck them into submission. Its not gay if its your clone!

F and N aren't even that close to each other I have no idea how I messed it up.
>>
You know we could have ended with this same result if we had just cast permanency on the enchantment and we could have even created a more sane version by only using parts of our husk that revolve around a single personality.

Not on a nat 3.
>>
Hopefully this nat 3 provides the catalyst for the death of the quest so I can finally stop fucking coming back like a beaten spouse.

Thanks for running.

Nope! When we actually do die, we'll just continue the quest as this other Mik.

Eh, maybe it's just me, but I think BQ is a pretty bad quest to pull off some Crichton level clone shit. The main pull is the unique circumstances of the MC. Though maybe Soma's good enough to pull it off ahahaha.
>>
I find it funny how shit this quest has become, I blame it on Soma's Nat 3 rule.
