It is cold. And it is dark. And there's nothing around you. Nothing but that guy sitting on a chair across from you. Messy hair, hazel eyes, a school uniform. He's looking at the darkness at his feet, while you're staring right into him. You shudder, wishing you had something to warm you up. Where are you? How did you get here? You remember nothing about your past, nor the circumstances that lead you wherever you're standing. The guy briefly glances at you, then looks away, annoyed. The silence makes you uncomfortable, but you don't have the guts to speak up either. You sigh. There's nothing in any direction, the darkness seems to embrace everything but you and the guy. It would normally be impossible to see someone so clearly in the absence of light, but you CAN see him, and it seems that he can see you too.Questions pile one after another in your head, but you don't voice any of them. You're surprised as he seizes the initiative."What the fuck you're looking at?", he asks abruptly."I...I..." You stutter, unable to find the words. So he DID notice that you were staring, and how couldn't he? It's all you've been doing. How long have you been there? You lost track of time. It feels like forever. In any case, you should answer him now.>"Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to stare">"I am looking at you. Do you have a problem with that?">"Ah, I was lost in thought. My apologies">Write in

"H-heh, it's at a moment like this that I would crack a joke like 'Hey sexy, do you come here often?' Haha", you laugh, trying to hide your nervousness."No you wouldn't", the guy responds, dead serious."Well, how do you know that?""Can't you tell?""Oh"In that moment, it hits you. He does know, because he's you, and you are him. You have no way to look at your own face, but you simply know this to be true. Even your clothes match."Well, if you're me, then explain: how did we get here?""We tried to break the chains of fate. Or rather, *I* tried. You were freeloading all along"As he speaks, you detect a faint scent of alcohol coming from his general direction. Is he intoxicated? Are you intoxicated?"What do you mean breaking the chains of fate? Do you really believe there's something like destiny?""Of course there is, but I am not surprised one like you doesn't understand", he answers, standing up."I will be going now. If you want, you can take over from here, but accept my suggestion and just give up now. It'll save you the pain, and it'll save you a disappointing life that will no doubt end prematurely"You watch as he heads into the darkness, walking unsteadily. He might have been drunk after all.Tiredness takes over your body. You wouldn't mind taking a nap right now, but something inside you is urging you to stop the other you, to learn something more from him before he disappears. You must learn the truth about yourself, and, if there's really such a thing, about your own destiny. But your feet fail you. You stumble and fall miserably. You try to stand up, but your body is too heavy and powerless to sustain you. Finally, you succumb to slumber."Nakai!", you start screaming. Is that your name? "Nakai! NAKAI!""Nakai! Nakai!" Someone's calling your name. You feel pain, like if every bone of your body was broken."Nakai, if you can hear me, open your eyes!"It's the voice of a middle-aged man. Using all your willpower, you force your eyes shut. The light tickles your eyelids, but you fight against the desire to open them."Nakai! Nakai!"The familiar voice grows more and more distant, until you fall asleep again. When you wake up, you're in the familiar, cold darkness. Not far from you, an amorphous figure stares at you. It's a revolting creature with no definite shape, several limbs and even a few tentacles. Yet the most jarring detail is its mouth, standing below its sole and grotesque eye, filled with teeth so long and so sharp that the creature is unable to close it. Because of this, a puddle of saliva lies at the feet of the monster. You feel your blood freezing and your body paralyzing. It wasn't here earlier, so why did he come? Who brought him here? Where is 'here'?You back off slowly, trying not to tick the creature off. You plan to start running as soon as your instinct will tell you to."Don't do that".The creature speaks with a gentle tone of voice."Don't go away. I will be alone. Are you afraid of me?""Yes", you answer, hesitantly."I understand. But even if you are afraid, don't run away, or you'll disappear"."So what should I do?""You will wake up soon. Just wait a bit with me".Heeding the monster's advice, you sit down. You spend the next few hours in absolute silence, then a bright light invades the darkness you're in. Before you know it, you're awake again.Looking around, you try to figure out where you are. It looks like an infirmary, and you're lying upon an hospital bed.The pain you felt earlier disappeared completely. You surroundings aren't familiar, but they don't make you uncomfortable either. The desire to explore them beckons you, but you're not sure you're in the right shape to walk.>Explore the room you're in>Get out of this room and explore the place you're in>Stay in bed>Write-in

Carefully, you get off the bed. You expect standing up to be painful, but to your surprise, everything goes well. You can walk, you can stretch, you can squat. None of those movements are painful for you.You start looking around. There's a bookcase next the bed, and it's filled with books about medicine.Your attention is piqued by the fact that a consistent number of those are about malformations or handicaps. You give the room another look. Maybe it's prejudice, but it doesn't look like one of those special centers equipped for 'special needs', so to say.On what you presume is the doctor's desk, in front of where you're standing, there's a pile of papers, a computer, and a picture. You take the picture in your hands. It's a woman, probably in her thirties. She looks attractive. You put it back on the desk, then sit on the bed again.A few minutes later, a young man comes in. He has a bright smile and little eyes. He looks like he's in his thirties, like the woman in the picture."Nakai Hisao. Never, in my rather short and all in all unremarkable career, have I seen a case like yours. And still, I have reasons to believe I witnessed a literal miracle. You furrow your brow and scratch your head in perplexity. "I am not sure I understand what you mean", you politely answer. "Are you the doctor?""I am not the doctor, but I am the Nurse. Which means I am like, the vice doctor!", the man says, laughing. "I remember nothing. Nothing at all", you answer, saddened."Nothing? Your entire memory has been wiped away?""I am afraid so. It's not just yesterday that I don't remember. It's my entire life".The Nurse nods. "I understand. What about this guy? Do you recognize him?". He produces a photo from his pocket and gives it to you. It's a guy with glasses and a red and yellow scarf, smiling complacent. He's in your same uniform. "He definitely looks familiar, but I can't put my finger on who he is. Is he related to what happened to me?""Yes, he is. But don't worry, it's not the kind of face you'll have to remember. Maybe fragments of your memories still exist within you. After all you responded to your name when we rescued you, and again a few hours ago"."Nakai Hisao""Exactly. That's encouraging. How old are you, Hisao?""I think I might be 18 or something, probably in second or last year of high school"The Nurse cocks his eyebrow in suspect. "Are you guessing basing on what you remember, or did you secretly looked at yourself in the mirror?"You decide that telling a stranger about another you living inside yourself would be counterproductive. You lie, saying that you looked at yourself in the mirror."That's more like it. Still, your guess was impressively correct. I am sure you do retain part of your memory", he comments, getting to his desk. "I am going to move you from your current class to one with people with more specific needs. "Actually..." you stutter. There's a lot you want to ask. "What year is it? No, more importantly, what happened to me? Did something happen to my head? Why am I here? Where is 'here'?" The Nurse pauses, and puts his pen down. "Of course. I should have expected such questions. Nakai Hisao, you're here because you have a severe heart disease. This is a special needs school, Yamaku High".You gulp. So far, only amnesia was on the plate. You are afraid that reality might be much more sinister than that now."For what concerns your accident... ah, screw it. Wait for me here, I will call your former homeroom teacher. Don't do anything weird while I am gone", the Nurse says, standing up and leaving. It seems like you'll have to wait to learn the truth. You sit on the bed once more, sighing. Then, you see something spine-chilling reflected in the glass of the window. It's the monster once again. You jump up and slowly back off, facing the horrendous being."No no no no, you shouldn't be here! You're a figment of my imagination, a nightmare of mine!", you ramble."Are you afraid of me?", he asks, kindly."Stay away from me! Stay away from me!", you order himHe laughs creepily. "It's silly to be scared of monsters when you're a monster yourself, Nakai. You shouldn't see me""Well I do, and trust me, I don't like it"."Can I call you Hisao?""Stay away from me, you monster! Why me? What have I done to you?""I am lonely, Hisao. Hold my hand" Saying so, the shapeless body of the creature produces a smooth and delicate arm, ending in a small white hand. You timidly stretch your arm to meet the monster's. As soon as you touch his hand, you feel faint. It's just a slight dizziness, but it goes away immediately as the monster withdraws his hand."Thank you Hisao! I love you very much!", the creature says. "I did this for your own good too. Now you won't see them when they arrive"."See them? See what?"The noise of a door opening catches your attention. The Nurse is back, accompanied by a middle aged man. The monster vanishes, and you quickly turn around to face the newcomer. His hair is dark and messy, and his eyes are beady. He's a bit overdressed to be in a school, and in sharp contrast with his somewhat refined sense of fashion, his beard is poorly shaved. While the Nurse talks about bureaucracy, the man's eyes wander through the room. He frowns as he looks at the place where the monster was standing, and then his expression changes to one of surprise when he sees you."Mutou? Mutou, are you listening to what I am saying?""Yes, yes, I am. Look, if you ask me, the final decision lies with the boy. Let's just tell him the facts first", he responds nonchalantly, the surprise all but disappeared from his face. The Nurse wears a serious expression. Sighing, he sits down. "Ok, let's get it over with it. Nakai, no, Hisao, we would have preferred not to share the details surrounding your accident so early. But Mutou has a point: the whole school will be talking about it".'Great, I am already the school's laughing stock', you think bitterly."Yesterday night, under mysterious circumstances, you fell from the rooftop of the school. You did not only survive the impact, you were completely unscathed. Memory loss is a small price to pay for something like that", he concludes. You sit down, pondering. How did you survive that? Maybe the rooftop wasn't that high, but still, no one jumps off a rooftop and gets up without a scratch. Is this what the other you meant when he said 'breaking the chains of fate'? Did he really plan his own..."Nakai." The middle aged man starts talking. "We want to help you recover as much as your memory as possible. Normally we'd assign you to a class for the physically impaired, but you look like you can stand on your own. If you wish to return to your former class, if you believe that it could help you remember, then you're more than welcome. As I said, the final decision is yours".>Ask to be assigned to the old class>Ask to join the class for the physically impaired>Ask to join another class
>>509061>Ask to join the same class
>>509061>Ask to be assigned to the old class

"If it's not a problem, I'd rather rejoin my former class", you hesitantly ask. Both the Nurse and your teacher nod. "The Nurse will finish the paperwork here, you'll come with me.", professor Mutou says. Waving to the Nurse, he opens the door and leads you through the corridor."A week passed since I first introduced you to the school, and now I am doing it again. Let's not make an habit out this, alright?""Yeah", you meekly reply. You'd like to point out that it's not your fault, that you have no idea what you were thinking, but that person who fell from the roof is still technically you. You'll bear with this and strive to improve, and to become a better person. You're even feeling optimistic about the monster that seems to appear out of nowhere from time to time. So far, it did nothing to harm you. You'd rather not see him again anytime soon though. "I understand the stress you're going through. I suggest you take the rest of today off. Just go to your room, revise your notes, see if anything rings a bell. Take a shower, good heavens", Mutou says, handing you a set of keys and a map."Use this to orientate yourself on campus until you're fully acquainted with it. I'd make myself acquainted with the heart medicines as soon as possible too, since your life literally depends on them. We will inform your parents briefly".Having said this, the man leaves, heading towards an unknown destination. You open the map. It is apparently meant for benefactors who want to visit Yamaku, but you're sure this will be just as useful to you.A few classroom are circled in red, one is circled both in red and blue and has your name next to it. 'Must be my old class', you think. Having located your quarters, you head there, immersed in thoughtUpon reaching your dormitory, you're greeted by an eerie silence. No one is there except you. The first key in your set opens the dormitory door, while the second is the key to your personal chamber. You notice that the door next to yours is slightly ajar.Curiosity tempts you, but on the other hand, you don't want to break any more rules at the moment.>Enter the room>Leave it.

called, writing now.
You knock on the door a few times. No response. You conclude it's safe to go in.Pushing the door gently, you let yourself in. The room is pitch black, and it smells awfully. Covering your face with a hand, you desperately look for the light switch. You kick the door open with your heel, hoping that the foul odor will disperse in the corridor and let you breathe. You finally find the switch and turn on the light, revealing a messy environment that looks almost like a bunker. Pieces of metal are nailed to the windows and to the walls, a kevlar helmet lies on the bed, and a small fridge has been placed next to the nightstand. You open it to find a couple of pizzas and some alcohol. A few magazines about conspiracy theories are piled on top of the minibar, and a survival manual is open on the desk. All this contributes to give you an idea of who the previous occupant was. You grab the pizzas and leave the room, switching the light off on your way out. It's strange, you've talked with your suicidal self, met a monster, and the thing that freaked you out the most was still visiting this lodging. You shrug, entering your mini-apartment and closing the door behind. You lay the pizzas on the table: they will be your meal today, for lunch and dinner. You're not ready to meet the crowd yet. For this, you're deeply grateful to your former dormitory mate.A maths book stands open and face down on your bed. You pick it up and start reading. The more you flip the pages, the more you feel familiar with the subject. Yes, this is definitely something you've studied before. Equations, inequations, functions, it all comes back to you."Huh, this is strange... why did I leave stripes on the book?", you comment, still skimming through the maths textbook. You put it back on the bed, and when you lift your gaze, you see those stripes everywhere. They weren't there a second earlier. They create something like a network, and you instinctively cover your eyes with your hands. You peek through them, just to see that the lines are still there. Distressed, you reach for the piece of paper next to the bunch of glass bottles on your nightstand. As you expected, it is a list of instructions for your medicines: which ones to take and how often. The labels on the bottles match the list on the paper, so you open them and grab your daily dose. You ingest the pills, then lie on your bed with your face on the pillow, waiting and hoping that the lines will go away.
But they don't. They're everywhere, and they should not be. Everything has lines, even you. You open your wardrobe, desperately looking for something stripe-less, but to no avail. Even your phone has lines. You pick it up from the desk and run through one of them with your index finger, and to your surprise, the phone breaks down.Terrified, you put the now broken mobile back on the desk. Your heartbeat increases, and you know that this can't be a good thing given your condition. You start shaking, terrified, desperately trying to regain control over your body. Then, you hear a knocking sound coming from below. Thump thump thump. Thump thump thump. Its rhythmical repetition makes you regain your composure. You take the map out of your pocket, and try to locate where the noise is coming from. The floor below yours is the female dormitory. So this is a tsukihime/katawa shoujo thing?Nice
Hesitantly, you put yourself together and leave. The lines are everywhere, and they're slowly driving you crazy. You try to think about the person you need to rescue to divert your attention somewhere else, but it doesn't work. You try to think about mathematics then, but that doesn't work either.Fortunately, you reach the room below yours rather quickly. Somebody is ramming against her desk desperately, but without shouting or screaming for help. "H-Hello? Is anyone there?", you say, regretting the stupid question the very moment you ask it."Please, help me! I am stuck in my room!", a delicate voice from the other side pleads you."O-ok, I will figure something out!", you reply, sounding more resolute than you actually are. There's no way you can get in without the key, and there's no way you can tear down the door. Or is there? After all, you broke down the phone by simply passing your finger over its line. Maybe you can break the door the same way.No, that's excessive. It'd be better to try it on something smaller and easier, for instance the lock. You identify the lock's 'line', and after passing your index over it, you hear a loud 'KLANG!'The knob comes off, and the door opens slowly.A girl comes out to meet you. She's really beautiful, and looks very flustered. You can see lines over her body too."Ah... thank you very much. I have been stuck here all morning. My dormitory mate is deaf, so she couldn't hear me asking for help.""No worries", you reply, embarrassed. She's smiling at you and that puts you ill at ease. "I... I skipped class too"."You're... You're Hisao Nakai, aren't you? I am Rika Katayama, pleased to you meet you. I've heard that..."You give her a look of terror. Has she heard about the accident? She looks like she caught your non-verbal clue, and awkwardly attempts to salvage the conversation."I've heard that you have a heart condition like me. Hehe, we are heartbreakers!"You laugh nervously. The joke is bad, but she's probably far more shy than you are. It'd be better not to shoot her down now that she started to open herself up."Would it be ok if we called each other by first name?", she proposes. You nod in acceptance. You've never been too formal anyway. Then, something unexpected happens. She grabs your hand and looks into your eyes."Hisao... I don't have many friends, so... will you help me again, if I am in a pinch?">Of course>I will try my best, but I can't promise you anything>I am no position to help anyone

>>509769>I will try my best, but I can't promise you anything
"Of course", you respond with confidence. Being by her side means that you're not alone anymore, that there's someone in this school willing to testify you're not a piece of human garbage. You feel bad for thinking of her as your ticket to social acceptability, but you think that all in all it's an honest trade-off.The girl, on the other hands, smiles with pure elation, grasping your hand harder. "Thank you very much! Thank you very much!""Oh, don't thank me yet. I still have to save you again!", you jokingly comment."Hey, Hisao""What is it, Rika?""I thought your eyes were a shade of blue, but they are hazel now that I look at them from this angle""Huh?". You're puzzled. Weren't your eyes always hazel? And where did the lines go? They disappeared as easily as they came. You breathe a sigh of relief. Too many things happened today, and it's still morning.Rika excuses herself, grabs her books and rushes down the stairs. As you return to your room, you imagine her telling her classmates how helpful and gallant you were. You decide to follow your professor's advice and take a shower, then change into clean clothes. You pick up the maths book again, and try to solve a few exercise. They all seem easy to you.You eat a pizza-based meal both for lunch and for dinner. The lack of human contact is almost enjoyable now that your mind is entirely focused on learning. After maths, you started revising physics, then chemistry, then history.Dissatisfied with your lack of progress in this last subject, you take your medications and go to sleep, praying for a quiet night without dreams.Unfortunately, much to your disappointment, you see the sole monstrous eye of the creature as soon as you fall asleep. You step back quickly, far enough not to be grabbed by his tentacles."You saw them, didn't you? It would have been better if you had never seen them. I tried to keep them hidden from you, but I couldn't help it"."See what? The only thing I see is you. I don't know who you are, nor do I know why you haunt me""I am very lonely, Hisao. Only you can see me. I won't harm you, but I am lonely, and I am hungry""Who are you? Where do you come from? How... how can I stop it?""Feed me, Hisao. I will take a bit of energy from you, and make you weak enough not to see them""What? You're feeding off me?""It's nothing, it's nothing I promise! It's just a bit of Od, it's all that I need. You won't even feel the difference, but you won't see those nasty nasty lines! I will protect you at all costs", you hear the creature say. Then, you faint. When you open your eyes, you're in your bed, the alarm is ringing and you attempt to get up, but the tentacles of the monster have completely enveloped you."Good morning Hisao dear, did you sleep well?""What is the meaning of this? Leave me now!""No, no, no! I can't let you go now, or you'll meet the blonde woman! She's dangerous, Hisao. I can't let you meet her""If you don't let me go, I will be late to class!""Yes, yes, yes! Just a few minutes late, then you won't meet her! She's dangerous, very very dangerous! We don't like her!"You sigh. No point in arguing. Instead, you try to think of what you can do to get to class as fast as possible. After a few minutes, the monster withdraws his tentacles, waving at you before disappearing. You quickly change into your uniform and head for the class that was marked in red and blue: 3-3.Just as planned by the creature, you're a few minutes late. Upon seeing you on the door, Mutou brings his index in front of his lips, then points at a row with three empty desks. There's a piece of paper on the one closest to the window. Silently, you walk through the room, feeling your classmates' eyes upon you.Students have broken down into smaller groups and are trying to work on the paper together. You sit by the window, all alone. The list of exercises on the paper is ridiculously long. They're not hard per se, but they'll wear you out in the long run. It's not a deadly lunge, it's a death by a thousand cuts. On the bottom of the paper, the professor added a note.'TAKE IT EASY-DO WHAT YOU CAN'You roll your eyes and sigh. Your pride would be hurt if you didn't finish them all, yet on the other hand, completing the assignment is quite unlikely on your own.
>>510386It is then that you notice a pretty girl ogling at you. Her skin is tanned, and her hair is long and brown. One of her forearms is missing. Coincidentally, she's working on the assignment alone just like you.>Move close to her casually and propose to work together>Stare back at her>Ignore her and focus on the exercise===========This will be it for tonight guys. How can one have pride or so be emotionally scarred while lacking memory? While an interesting premise, it turns out the protagonist is emotionally weaker than Kazuya Aoi at season 1 (Freezing). With determination, but not without awkwardness, you stand up and try to move closer to the girl staring at you. When your gaze meets hers, she smiles complacently. The professor is reading his newspaper, too busy to care. Finally, you're close enough to sit next to her."Hey, I saw you're on your own, and so am I. Maybe we could work together, what do you say?", you propose, mustering all your courage."Me? Working with teacher's pet Nakai, physics ace? Like, hello? Of course I'll accept", she responds, giving you a sly smile. Her speech patterns are strange, like someone who's trying too hard to fit in.You try to look past that and work out an arrangement to share the workload. In the end, you do most of the difficult tasks, but you finish all exercises and that makes you feel satisfied."I didn't introduce myself yet, I am sorry", the girl says once you're both done. "I am Miki Miura. Nice to, like, meetcha buddy. But stick to my surname, or peeps are gonna ask me if we're dating or something"You bow your head slightly. "Nice to meet you. I suppose you already know my name. You can call me as you prefer, I don't really mind""Nakai will do. Now go back to your sit, before Bubblegum and Four Eyes come back from Student Council duties and give me shit for this", she replies, giving you one final sly smile. You oblige the girl, taking the stuff you brought with you back to your desk, wondering who Bubblegum and Four Eyes could be.While you're trying to make sense of your memories, you feel two fingers tapping on your shoulder. Turning around, you see Mutou's face, looking smug and satisfied."Oh, professor. I didn't hear you coming", you say, which in your head is a polite version of 'Don't sneak up on me'."Excellent work as usual, Nakai. Not that you have memories of your previous excellent work, but just take my word for it". It's not hard to believe, since the girl was praising your skills back then too."Thank you, professor. I will try to keep up the good work"."Yeah, about that. I talked with the Nurse, and we decided that it would be more prudent to let you take it easy for a while. For this week, you won't have to attend afternoon classes. Just go to your room after lunch, is that fine with you?"You don't really want to receive special treatment, but then again you did promise yourself you'll play by the rules this time. Bowing, you thank your professor and accept. The rest of the day goes by uneventfully. It is kinda lonely to be the sole occupant of an entire row of desks, but it also has its perks in terms of larger personal space. The lunch bell rings, and having assembled all your material, you prepare to leave. There's still some leftover pizza in your room. Alternatively, you could eat at the cafeteria.>Have lunch in your room>Eat at the cafeteria>Explore the school a bit first before having lunch
Always sad to see a player leave. I would like to give my players full freedom but it's not always possible, nor does it always make sense. In any case Hisao is a recovering patient: you'll have more options the more the accident is behind you, but I already decided I wanted to give you guys a chance to explore the school yesterday before going to bed.Sometimes, I do make mistakes. You'll eat lunch later, there's nothing you have to do for the rest of the day. Taking a walk around the school sounds much more interesting. You don't have the map with you, so you'll just wander avoiding the spots in which you might meet people: the library, the classrooms and the cafeteria. Yamaku's campus is really large. Not knowing much about it, you suppose it has become the recipient of the donations of local prominent families, eager to show off their good will and financial stability. Some of the inner windows have a view on the running track, while the outer ones overlook the inner courtyard. You move up and down through the floors pretty much undisturbed. Only a cherry blonde girl with prosthetic legs passes you by, running recklessly. You dodge her at the very last minute, avoiding what would have likely been an awkward accident. 'Some people really don't know when to stop', you think bitterly. As you head towards the rooftop, you hear voices coming from upstairs. You decide you'll visit the place later. Strolling through the corridors, however, you feel like someone's observing you, stalking you. You try to shake off the unpleasant sensation, but to no avail. Finally you turn around, shouting with rage. "Who's there?"No response, except for the noise of footsteps quickly moving away. You sigh. You really don't need more monsters following you.No longer in the mood to explore, you head for your room, upset at how strange the life you lead is. It just so happens that the corridor leading there leads to the cafeteria too. Taking a peek, you notice it's all but deserted, save for a girl sleeping face down on her tray>Attempt to wake her up>It's none of your business. Silently and with circumspection, you enter the cafeteria. The girl is snoring, and before you can you put an hand on her shoulder to gently wake her up, the monster appears before your eyes. His body is torn and his flesh is rotten. He's barely breathing. "H-Hisao, l-look at me. I protected you from that Church woman! Have I...Have I been good, Hisao?", he asks faintly. The sight of his maimed body is unbearable. Folding over, you start to puke in disgust. "Hisao...Are you ok, Hisao? Hisao... Feed me, Hisao..."Before you have time to react, the monster wraps his tentacles around your body. The contact with the monster causes you an acute pain. It worsens and worsens until you can't bear it anymore and faint. You awake suddenly, covered in sweat and breathing heavily. You're in your room, but looking out of the window, you see the sun has already set. How long have you been knocked out? 3 hours? 4 hours? You notice something strange in your field of vision, something that shouldn't be there. The girl that was sleeping in the cafeteria is now asleep on the chair in your room."Hey!", you call out to her. "Hey, you!"Moaning, she opens her baggy eyes. "Oh, you're awake, Nakai", she says with a smile. "We were getting worried"."How long.. how long have I slept?""Does it matter now? That time is lost, and you can't recover it. That's how I learned to deal with my condition", she responds chuckling. You have a thousand questions you want to ask her. "What happened to me? Last thing I remember was that I was about to check on you because you were passed out on your tray. Do I know you?""Oh, you were?" The girl's eyes widen in surprise. "That's... that's very nice of you, Nakai. In the future, don't worry about me. I suffer from narcolepsy. I always wake up eventually", she responds smiling."I see... but still, how did I get here?""When I woke up, I saw you on the floor, collapsed. I immediately contacted the Nurse, who then brought you up here. He said it wasn't anything serious, but I was worried." The girl starts staring at her shoes and gets fidgety. "I asked him to let me stay here until you woke up, and so...""Oh, well, that makes sense. Thank you very much."For a while, you both stay silent. The delicate girl standing in front of you looks very embarrassed, so you try to think of something to break the tension. "Ah, uhm... So, the Nurse told you my name, I guess?"The girl shakes her head, still looking at her shoes. She's much more shy than you originally thought. "Well, in that case, could you tell me if we met... well, you know... before my accident?"It's painful for you to talk about this, and yet for some reason, you feel like you must absolutely get to the bottom of this matter."...n't you...", the girl whispers. You can barely hear what she said."I am sorry, I didn't catch that"."I said I can't tell you", she says, this time more loudly.>Drop the subject. No need to push her.>This is suspicious. "Why can't you tell me? Are you afraid of me?", you inquire politely."No, it's not that. It's just... embarrassing", she timidly responds."Oh, come on, don't be like that. I bet it's an interesting story", you say, trying to encourage her.The girl covers her face with her hands, peeking at you through her fingers. "Promise you won't laugh"."I am not going to laugh". You put your right hand on your heart and lift your left one. "I swear"You must have a strange, very dignified expression on your face, because she starts to giggle. You think it's a good sign: she's opening up to you after all. "You know how they say that you can't see or meet people in your dreams that you haven't met or at least caught a glimpse of in real life? Well, I met you in my dreams. For a couple of days now".You raise your eyebrow. That's odd. "I see. Sorry for disturbing your sleep, then""No, it's not like that at all", she replies, frantically shaking her hands and her head. "We do a lot of fun stuff together. We go to the movies, or to the amusement park, and you always buy me something yummy to eat. I am sorry, I don't know why this keeps happening... You must think I am a creep".She looks like she's on the verge of tears. You get up and put an hand on her shoulder."Don't think too hard about it. You have no power over your dreams, and I don't think you're creepy". You offer her your most sincere smile, and she nods blushing."Nakai...""Yes?"You notice that you might be a bit too close to her, invading her personal space. You slowly back off, but keep looking straight at her. "Well, we're past curfew, and I am a girl in a male dormitory, so, you know, I should..."You understand she's trying to take her leave, given the circumstances.>"Wait, could you at least tell me your name?">"You're right. sorry guys, didn't see we had 5 replies already, I am going to write the update.
"You're right, I suppose. Wouldn't it be safer if I brought you to your room? Just in case you were to fall asleep on your way there", you ask.The girl ponders for a while, then nods in assent. "Let's go together, Nakai"As any boy in a girl's dormitory would, you get some weird looks. However, most of the girls stop staring once they realize you're accompanying the narcoleptic girl, who just keeps her mouth shout for the entire duration of the stroll. She suddenly stops in front of a door. "That's... that's my room", she stutters. "thank you for bringing me here""The pleasure is mine. Oh, before I forget: what's your name?"The girl slams the palm of her right hand on her face. "How stupid of me. I forgot to tell you"You try to laugh it off, but she's turning crimson red. Her answer comes in a whisper."Suzu. Suzu Suzuki. But I would be very happy if you called me Suzu"."Good. Well then, Suzu, goodnight. See you around"."G-goodnight, Nakai. Ah, one more thing, before you go"."I am all ears"."You... You are... You..." "Yes?", you encourage her."muchnicerthaninmydreamsgoodnight!", she says, so fast that you can barely make out the words. She slams the door before you even have the chance to reply. As you leave the dormitory, you hear a few excited squeals and the noise of knuckles knocking on wood.'Poor girl', you think. 'She'll be the center of the gossips tonight. And what's up with me? When did I become so popular with girls? Ah, wait, maybe I always was, even before the accident. Who knows", you conclude, shrugging.Once you're back in your room, you realize you're not tired at all. You eat some of the leftover pizza, but it's so bad even you can't stomach it. Bored, you try to get the history book to catch up on the subject you struggled the most with, but an unexpected and sharp migraine stops you. In pain, you grab your head with your hands.Something hot drips from your nose to your mouth. It's blood. Ignoring the pain, you open your eyes: the world is covered in lines again. The Monster said it: you can see the death of things. You drag yourself in the bathroom and look in the mirror. Your eyes changed color: they're a weird shade of blue now.Resigned, you go to bed and try to keep your eyes shut. You don't want to see anything. It takes you a few hours, but you finally fall asleep. Fortunately for you, the pre-incident you has set the alarm to wake you up in time for class. You thank the pre-incident you for leaving behind such an handy device, and open your eyes to see that the lines disappeared. Relieved and mildly optimistic, you get up and start getting ready for school. Then something stops you. The Monster didn't come to your dreams, nor did he stop you in bed this morning. His warning echoes in your head. "If you go to class too early, you'll meet the blonde woman. You mustn't meet her".>Ignore the monster>Go to class, but stay on your guard>Arrive a few minutes late, just to be safe.

Taking the middle ground is probably the best solution. You get ready to leave, and ready to run away in case of danger. You're a few steps away from your classroom, when you see the burned girl that sits in the last row arriving with a blonde girl.Immediately sensing danger, you turn around and hide yourself behind the corner.Tick tick, tick tick. The metallic sound of a cane hitting the ground comes closer, then disappears inside the classroom. A few minutes later you hear it again, coming in your direction. You start to panic. Even just catching a glimpse of that girl stirred something in your insides. You're terrified at the thought of what might happen if she were to come closer.Tick tick, tick tick. The noise gets louder. She's coming this way. You close your eyes and turn your head in the opposite direction. You curse your eyes, the source of all your troubles. Tick tick, tick tick.Any second now. She'll see you any second now. Your blood boils, and you're not sure if it's because of her or because of the irrational fear you have of her. You brace yourself for the consequences, and...Tick tick, tick tick. She moves further away, as if she didn't notice you at all. It takes you a minute to realize it, but you finally put all the pieces together. She's blind. She's blind! You feel so lucky and so stupid you'd laugh. But now is not the time for that. Trying to look normal, you enter the classroom and you take your usual place, next to the window and to two empty desks. You have class with professor Mutou right before lunch today. He distributes the assignments, and once he's done, you start looking in the direction of Miura, hoping she'll be in the mood to collaborate today as well. You're disappointed to see that she, on the other hand, ignores you completely, focusing only on the piece of paper in front of her. You shrug. Maybe rumors about you and Suzuki are circulating already, so the girls might have collectively decided that you're off limits. Regardless of what the situation actually is, you get to work. When the lunch bell chimes, you're only halfway through. Disappointed, you put the pen down and wait for Mutou to collect your paper. He gives you a meaningful look before taking it, something along the lines of 'see me after class'.
You wait for all the students to leave, then finally it's only you and the professor."Thank you for catching my drift, Nakai. You can be extremely perceptive, but you can also be dumb as a rock", he says. "Your family tried to reach your cellphone, but you wouldn't pick up. What is the meaning of that?""Oh, it broke on Monday. I suppose I should have informed you or the Nurse". More correctly, you broke it, but there's no way a science professor would believe the circumstances that led to its destruction. After extracting from you the promise that you'll call them using the school's phone, Mutou produces a book from his bag and gives it to you. "You will be tested on this tomorrow. I suggest you study it thoroughly", he states matter-of-factly, then leaves before you can protest.'An entire book? By tomorrow?"In any case, classes are over for you. You should probably:>Grab some lunch>Take another tour of the campus>Go to your room and start studying
>>513581Don't worry about it. I am just jesting. Forcing someone to play is the last thing that I want.In any case, this will be it for tonight. I have a few surprises ready for tomorrow.
>>513620>>Go to your room and start studying
>>513620>>Take another tour of the campus
>>513620>Grab some lunchSurely we can study over some good coffee and lunch?
>>513620>Go to your room and start studying
>>513620>Grab some lunch
>>513620>grab some lunch
Rolled 2 (1d2)I'll break the tie like so: 1 for grabbing lunch, 2 for going to your room and studying
You weigh the book with your hands. It's really, really heavy. You have no idea what your professor is thinking, since so far he always prioritized your recovery and not your studies. Saddened and worried, you rush to your room to start studying. And yet, when you open the book, you see that a huge, rectangular-shaped box has been carved in its center. A bar of metal wrapped by paper stands where the missing part of the book should be.You grab it, removing the wrapping carefully. The words 'Seven Nights' are engraved on it. You recognize Mutou's handwriting on the piece of paper that was wrapped around it. It's a short message that reads:'SEE HIS DEATHAND KILL HIMOR HE WILL KILL YOU TONIGHT'.You recognize the now-familiar symptoms of an incoming headache. Soon enough, the death lines you see appear before your eyes. 'See whose death? Who is going to kill me?', you wonder. You examine the piece of metal once again. It's not that heavy, but probably an heavy book was required to hide it properly. While fiddling with it, you turn it upside down, and a sharp blade roughly the same size as the entire bar pops out.Scared, you let it drop. What kind of teacher gives his amnesiac student a switchblade knife? Nevertheless, you decide to put in your pocket, worried by the warning Mutou left behind. You sigh. You have no idea what to do. Studying is out of the picture, as you for one at this point no longer believe your professor gave you that book for studying purposes. Your biggest issues is now trying to make the lines go away. 'Let's see... last time they disappeared when I went to bed, and before that after I helped Rika'.It's way too early to sleep, and human contact isn't guaranteed to work, even if it did in the past. Even more importantly, you're afraid to see your fellow students' 'death lines'.>Maybe it's better to wait inside>I could ask the Nurse to prescribe me a sleep medication>I will go for a stroll and see if it helps
>>514667>I will go for a stroll and see if it helps
>>514667>I will go for a stroll and see if it helpsAnd take the knife for good measure. Too bad it is a switchblade, and not a Fairbairn-Sykes.
>>514667>Maybe it's better to wait inside

You put your sunglasses on and your knife in your pocket. Wearing sunglasses will hide your strange eyes from people, while the knife will come in handy in case the monster appears again. Most students are in the library or in their rooms around this time of the day. This is a mixed blessing, as you were hoping that meeting new people would have helped your condition.Fortunately, a familiar face appears on the horizon. You couldn't possibly mistake those baggy eyes."Hey, Suzu!", you call out to her.She turns in your direction, surprised. So far, you've always met her when she's alone. That's strange, considering how incapacitating her condition can be.She smiles at you before reciprocating the greeting. "Wearing sunglasses inside, huh? That's kinda cool, His...Nakai""Oh come on, it's not fair if only I get to call you by first name. By all means, call me Hisao if you wish""Ah, really? Well, thank you", she says, blushing. "In any case, there's something I've been meaning to ask you""What is it, Suzu?""Have you been... in pain, lately?""In pain? You mean because of my heart, or because of the accident?""No, I mean because of...Ah, never mind. It's nothing, really""Are you sure? You can talk to me"She waves her hand in front of her and shakes her head. "It's nothing, really. I think I should just play less videogames""Video...games, huh? It sounds familiar".Suzu's face lights up in excitement. "You like videogames too? Then why don't you come to my room? I bought the latest Medal of Duty, I am sure you will love it"You laugh in embarrassment. She probably has pure intentions, but even an amnesiac knows being alone in a room with a girl is a thing that might easily be misunderstood. Still, you have no reasons to turn her down."Hisao! Hisao!" A familiar voice echoes in the corridor.Rika is running towards you and Suzu, waving her hand at you and smiling."I am so lucky to find you here, Hisao! What's with the sunglasses, though?", she inquires."Oh, I just have a little headache and the light hurts me. Nothing serious". It's only half a lie: you really do have an headache, and seeing those lines on people does really hurt you."Oh... I was hoping I could ask for your help with maths. You've always been very good at that", Rika comments, disappointed."Actually", interjects Suzu, glaring at Rika "I just invited him over to play videogames".While Rika simply looks genuinely surprised, the narcoleptic girl is barely hiding her hostility. "Well, in that case, the choice is up to you, Hisao,", Rika concludes. >I must keep my promise to Rika>Suzu asked me first. I will go with her.>Turn them down both. They'll be sad but they won't feel betrayed.

You sigh. Whatever you do, someone will be disappointed. "I am sorry, Rika, but Suzu invited me first". The narcoleptic girl smiles at you, elated. Rika looks a bit down, but you expected that. "If you want, I can come to your room later and help you with maths. I am not the kind of guy who reneges on his promises"."Awesome! I will wait for you, but don't make it too late! See ya!"Rika leaves with a satisfied expression on her face, and you feel like you dodged a bullet.Suzu, on the other hand, clenches on your arm as you walk towards her room and pouts. You start to panic, thinking of what you'd do wrong."So, Hisao, what kind of promise did the two of you make?""Ah, you mean that? It's nothing serious, I just promised I'd help her if she were in a bad spot", you explain."I see. It makes sense, after all you're a very nice guy", Suzu comments, looking a bit dejected. However, any trace of sadness disappears from her face once you enter her room. She sprints towards the TV set, turning it on and inserting a disk in the console right below it. 'Right... Video-game. It's a game you play on a screen, like a TV screen. It makes sense, after all', you silently observe."Man, the graphics for these games are getting better and better. It's almost like watching a movie!", she says in excitement.'That quiet little girl really does burst with energy once you touch a subject she's passionate about', you think. You spend the next few hours playing Suzu's favorite FPS. As you expected, the game totally changes her personality. She gets angry, competitive and loud so long as the controller is in her hands. Human contact is good for you too: little by little the lines disappeared, as well as your headache."Thank you for coming, Hisao. I think I need to take a nap now. I'd like to play with you once again, you have potential. Please, don't feel like I am kicking you out", Suzu begs with pleading eyes."No no, actually, thank you for having me over", you respond, bowing slightly. You say goodbye to each other, then, once you're out of the female dormitory, you head towards your own room. There's a few things you want to grab before meeting Rika.
>>515077Again, the unpleasant sensation of being followed accompanies you through the trip, but you can't hear anyone's footsteps or see anybody suspicious around. You hasten your pace and eventually get to your room, but once you close the door, the sensation of relief and safety you were longing for is denied to you once again. The monster is there, salivating even more than usual."F-feed me, Hisao... I am hungry... Feed me".Your reach for the switchblade knife in your pocket, pointing it at the creature. "I will feed you no more". Your resolution scares even yourself. Lines start appearing on your hands and on your clothes, while the darkness descends on your room."Why? I protected you, Hisao. I am sorry for hurting you, but this time it won't hurt much at all. It will be like a mosquito bite! Hehe. Don't be mean to me, Hisao"The creature claims to be on your side, and yet you have no proof that he really protected you, or kept any of his promises. No, it's not that. The source of your distrust is chiefly your professor's letter. 'Feed him, and you'll die'."Come on Hisao, gimme gimme! I am hungry", the monster says, extending a human-like arm.>Feed the monster again>Fight the monster
>>515083>FightThis really needs to stop.
>>515083>Feed the monster againWe have no reason to distrust him and plenty of reasons to distrust the professor.
>>515083>Fight the monsterFuck 'em
>>515083>Feed the monster again
>>515083>Fight the monsterA cute girl is waiting for us, lets do this
>>515083>Feed meSure reminds me of someone.>>Fight the monster
>>515115>>515094>>515088Called. I need the bathroom, I will post the update once I am back.
>>515083>Test it. Ask it to wait until tomorrow. If it wont wait and tries to take its 'meal' by force then fight it.
You lower the knife slowly. There is one way to see test the creature."Fine, I will feed you. But you'll have to wait until tomorrow"."EEEEEH?!?" the creature shrieks in anger and surprise. "NO NO NO NO NO NO. I am hungry now. I want eat now! NOW! FEED ME, HISAO!""I won't change mind. Wait until tomorrow, or find someone else to feed you", you dryly respond."How... how could you? After all I've done for you?"Out of the corner of your eyes, you see the creature's tentacles moving and crawling behind you."You leave me no choice, Hisao". One of the creature's appendices aims at your neck, and with supernatural reflexes you parry it. The next attack is no threat for you either. It's simple, even for a total beginner like you. The monster is trying to hit your lines, so your body reacts on its own to deadly threats. There are no lines on the creature, only on his outstretched arm. You find one and quickly cut it. The limb falls on the floor, and the monster howls in pain. You were never sure whether this creature really existed or not, so, for a long time, you couldn't see his death. But now, lines and even dots are appearing all over him. You clean the blood under your nose and charge towards the monster, aiming for his death spot right below his mouth. You feel the creature's fearsome teeth wrapping around your head, but the lethal stab comes before he can bite you. Death, as you're able to perceive it, is not simply a biological phenomenon. It's the final end to everything, a definitive stop. Therefore, even if the monster was ready to bite you, it falls on the ground like a puppet whose strings have been cut.The corpse of the creature changes shape, until it looks like a certain acquaintance of yours."SUZU!", you scream, reaching for the girl. Unlike the monster, she's alive. You help her stand up."Hisao, you're such a moron. I asked you if you were in pain, and you said no!", she berates you."But I wasn't. The creature didn't start hurting me until recently. Did he feed off you too?"The girl shakes her head. "I am sorry, Hisao. This was all my fault. I should have listened to her when she told me I was possessed by a demon. I didn't believe her. I felt good, and I had wonderful dreams. And because of that, I almost...""Don't say that", you interject. "It didn't happen, so there's no need to torture you with what-ifs. I am alive and well, and so are you. And that's all that matters".But Suzu keeps shaking her head. "It's not like that, Hisao. They will be back. The demons will be back, and I will end up doing something I regret. She said this too. She said the demons won't stop coming, so there's just one solution"."And what would that solution be?""Don't worry about it, Hisao. Thank you for everything. Thank you for the dates, even the ones we didn't really have. Thank you for playing videogames for me. It was all just like in a dream", she says, tears welling up in her eyes.
>>515159"WAIT! DON'T GO!", you scream, trying to stop her.But when you come to, you're alone in your room. Panic assails you. It's night, hours have passed, but you don't care about that.Getting up with a struggle, you start running towards Suzu's room. It's not a long trip, else your heart might have really given in. Without thinking twice, you break the first lock to the dormitory and the second to your friend's room. You open the door, and there you see it. Mutou, sitting on the girl's bed, smoking a cigar. Suzu Suzuki, the narcoleptic girl, hangs from a rope made of sheets. She is dead.
Thus ends the first episode of the Garden of Cripples. I hope you enjoyed it so far.I am preparing a new OP picture, so I will open a new thread in a few hours since this will be autosaging by then.I apologize for stealing some of you guys' ideas. Sometimes they strike me as better than what I was originally planning, but they're by no means a way to override a vote or give more importance to a certain player. They just seem to me like they would reflect better what the MC would do, conditional on what the anons have already decided.See you soon!
>>515163See you in a few hours! Also Rip Hisao's Psyche and Rip Suzu
>Killing off best girl. Why do you wound me so qm?
>>515163>Kill of AWhy OP?Why?
Makes me wonder why the demon feared Lilly so now. I presume we will learn more later.
>>515169>Suzu Damn autocorrectAnd don't tell me any of the others are monsters.
>>515172Clearly the only non-monster is Best Girl Lilly.
>>515174>OP puts nice friendly girl in a horror type questHow could I not see that it was bait.>>515175Lily's probably a monster hunter. The jury is still out on whether she'll find us a monster. She will.
>>515160Guess she wanted to hang out after all :^)
>>515181Probably right desu senpai.
>>515182my sides, anon.
Was this a largely unavoidable, scripted death? Or was there something we could've done? And will there be BAD ENDS like in the games?
>>515202there are some deaths that you can't avoid, unfortunately. It's mostly things that are beyond your powers. The MEoDP are able to kill 'concepts' and 'traits' of a person. If your eyes were more trained, they could have killed the 'demonhive' trait of Suzuki.Conversely, training your eyes makes you more like Nanaya Shiki, bent on exterminating anything inhuman. There are some characters I plan to kill off. I hope this doesn't make you lose interest in the quest. About bad ends, you just narrowly escaped one.
>>515209Will we get the chance to train them?
>>515209Character deaths are okay, just don't get all George RR Martin.>"That's a nice favorite character you got there.">"Not anymore."
>>515209We'll simply have to kill her "dead" trait. Problem solved.
>>515209Do we get Taiga Dojo with bad ends?
>>515215of course you will. I said so myself, didn't I?>>515220I am gonna try to strike a balance. After all, Martin is good at making you care about the characters. That's why their deaths hurt so much. If I killed someone you don't care for, it would be narratively meaningless.
>>515224smart guy>>515229This quest is based off KS and she tsukk me/kek no kyoukai, not fate/stay night.
