Welcome to You Awake in Westeros Quest – Trick Edition.

In this quest we follow our hero, Velo, as he tries to survive and thrive in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire.

Last thread, he arrived at Dragonstone, swore himself to Stannis and was converted to R'hllor. Meanwhile, Mira has been betrothed for marriage, received Harrenhal and discovered she is a master crossbow-woman.

Now, Velo recommends the Lord of Light!

“Beseech the Lord of Light for guidance, your Grace!” you recommend. Mannis gives you a strange look before realizing his cover story and turning to Stannis, slapping the table.

“Oi, right! Lord of Light. Ask the flames, Your Grace,” he seconds half-heartedly. "Or something . . ." he mutters into the floor.

Melisandre merely nods while Stannis stares at you two seers with some combination of disgust and begrudging acceptance.

“Ask your god later,” Stannis orders, coming out of his sullen slump. “I have received two more pieces of news. From Dorne. Prince Doran has agreed to the match . . . but he has informed me he will not be sending his eldest son here to Dragonstone. If we wish to solidify the alliance I must send my only heir to Sunspear. Worse, Doran has already agreed to match his youngest son to Myrcella, despite my warnings that she is a bastard born of Lannister incest. He seeks marry his sons to both sides and remain neutral in this conflict.”

“Prince Doran is well known for his craven behaviors,” Maester Cressen admits, crestfallen. “We . . . I should have seen this coming. But, all hope is not lost. I have received word from the chief gaoler of the Red Keep himself – a loyal man, true to your cause, Your Grace. Myrcella boards a ship on the morrow – The Imp or the Queen hoping the significance of the new year will guarantee her safe passage, no doubt. The Queen Cersei seeks to transport Princess Myrcella to Sunspear, safeguarded by four other ships in the Royal Fleet still loyal to King Joffrey.”

Stannis looks to Maester Cressen with narrowed eyes. “You believe we should intercept?”

“Of course, your Grace. With the crown princess as a hostage we will have leverage.”

>No point, let the girl go

Agree with the plan, except don't hold her hostage, just hold her long enough to be talked to and have the situation explained to her.

Then let her on her way.

On the contrary.
It will make Cersei batshit crazy.
Tyrion will send Myrcella and Tommen without asking.

Myrcella gets captured and shit's gonna hit the fan.

Nah, I prefer sacrificing her to the Red God just for luls, and watch Cersei self destruct
>>
>>507990
Hah! Let me tell you how this is gonna work.
If we get Myrcella, we are gonna head off to Tyrells.

Why? Because Lannisters have Loras.
Give them Myrcella and they will not have to worry about loras getting killed and you can wipe off a good chunk of the Crown's debt that way.

Cersei will not refuse a prisoner exchange like that.
>>
>>508005
if anything Will should "intercept" her and marry her himself desu

Is Myrcella considered king's blood? Yeah she's Jaime's girl but does it matter, why does being crowned make your blood more powerful. If it counts then well you know what will happen

In the books Stannis was ready to burn Edric (Bobby B's bastard), a 10 year old boy. He won't give a shit really unless it's his own daughter
>>
Y'all know this is likly an ambush or wlyd fire boat...I mean it may not be, but you know there's a good chance of it
>>
“I agree with the Maester's plan,” you nod your head, concurring.

Stannis brings a hand up to his chin as he ponders his next move. “Well, considering the boy doesn't have a single decent naval commander in the entirety of his cesspit of a city, I doubt we'll be facing anything too fearsome. An escort of five ships should be easily quashed by merely three times their number under a fierce, tested naval captain. I could send the Myrish sellsails – Get my money's worth for their services. Their Admiral has fought oft in the disputed lands of the Free Cities. I've yet to pay Salladhor Saan and his Lyseni pirates. Allowing him to plunder whatever he can from those ships may assuage his desire for payment for some time. And he was recommended by Ser Davos so I trust his skills. Or I could send my onion knight's eldest. Dale Seaworth commands the Wraith and with fourteen ships from the royal fleet under his command I believe he'll easily bring me the girl. Thoughts?” he asks after a pause, looking to Mannis.

“Send the Lyseni. Salladhor Saan will be grateful for the chance to plunder, your Grace.”

Mannis nods his head and points in your direction. “I agree. Plus, I suspect it may be a trap. So if we're making a blue right now we won't lose any of your loyal troops. Just pirates.”

Stannis nods. “I'll have a herald inform the 'Prince of the Narrow Sea' of his task. Now, with that business concluded, I believe it is time we . . . besought guidance from the Lord of Light.”

Maester Cressen frowns. “Please, your Grace. Let us not indulge in such nonsense –”

“Maester Pylos!” Stannis booms, causing the younger maester to bolt upright. “Escort Maester Cressen to his chambers. If he believes this nonsense and wishes to be elsewhere, then his presence is no longer necessary.”

Cressen looks upon Stannis with a visage of sorrow as Pylos gently lifts the elderly man up by the elbow. The replacement maester mutters words to soothe the man as the two scholars make their exit.

With only yourself, Mannis and Melisandre left – other than a few loyal guards – Stannis stands and proceeds to the brazier in the back of the temporary council room.

The three of you follow after Stannis, your feet clacking along the stone floor of the chamber.

Stannis stops a good fifteen feet away from the sconce of fire while Melisandre approaches right up to the edge, heat from the pitch-drenched torch practically licking at her face and hair. Yet she shows no sign of discomfort nor does her hair become singed or blackened.

Mannis stands a bit farther back than yourself. You approach as close as you dare – perhaps five feet. You wish to see whatever visions of the future Melisandre conjures with your own eyes.

Her crimson irises search the flames for a sign. After a few moments of silence pierced solely by the crackling of the fire consuming its fuel, the Red Witch reaches into a bag at her waist. A few unintelligible mutterings in a language you can't understand escape her full, cherry lips. A chant of power – to draw forth her faith and enact the magic her God allows her to conjure. A smile graces your own lips. R'hllor is about to grant you all a vision.

As her chant ceases, Lady Red casts a few motes of some blueish powder into the sconce.

The reaction is immediate.

The brazier practically explodes into a raging, pillar of fire – a torrent of flames bathing and burning the ceiling in hellfire. The BOOM of the detonation startles you all and you find yourself stumbling backwards.

Stannis refuses to move. An unbending, living statue.

The pillar of flame dances back and forth, shaking and shimmying like a man gone mad.

Your eyes drift from the maddening movements of R'hllor's will to Melisandre. Even she has taken a step back in retreat. Her countenance is one of alarmed confusion – a crack in her eminent front of mystery she usually portrays. It seems to take all her courage and faith not to bolt from the spot.

The fiery gestures grab your attention once more as the pillar splits into three separate prongs – almost like a trident. Before your eyes have time to adjust to the new form, each prong begins to alter and contour itself into a shape. Your gaze shifts rapidly between each one to notice if there is any difference between the sections of fire – but all three seem to project and form the same facsimile.

Three Dragons etched in flame.

“Crikey . . .” Mannis mutters from behind.

And then just like that the flame is snuffed out. The images of the dragons dissipate and the fires recedes back into the coals of the brazier, the edges of the metallic casing partially melted from the intensity of the recent blazing inferno.

It is dark now in the Chamber of the Painted Table. No one dares make a peep.

I'm pretty sure this is referring to a lot of things because it's pleasantly vague.
1st. The Dragons have hatched.
2nd. Aegon Targaryen was gonna begin his invasion the next year on normal schedule.
3rd. Wants you to know there's two other Targs than him running around.

It should probably be mentioned also that the Winter's gonna start next year, so be prepared for that shit.
Really just stuff we already knew about ages ago.

“So remember those dragon eggs I told you about, King Stannis?”

He looks to you and nods his answer mutely.

You shrug. “I believe Daenerys Targaryen has hatched them, your Grace. I also believe the three dragons in the flames might represent three important Targaryens. Daenerys Stormborn, who is gathering forces in the east. Aegon Targaryen the sixth, who gathers an army of sellswords in the Free Cities.”

Stannis squints. “Aegon Targaryen was killed by Tywin Lannister's bannermen.”

You sigh out. “It might not be the real Aegon Targaryen . . but Varys claims he switched the real baby Aegon with another during the sack of King's Landing. And whether this is a lie or not – a boy believing himself the son of Rhaegar Targaryen seeks to claim the Iron Throne.”

“Hmm,” Stannis utters simply as if that could possibly encapsulate the wealth of information you've just bequeathed to him. “And who do you believe is the third 'dragon'?” he asks.

“Jon Snow,” you inform him. “Eddard Stark's bastard is actually the second son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. I believe they were secretly married and thus Jon Targaryen has a claim to the Iron Throne.”

“He's a man of the Night's Watch now, isn't he?” Stannis inquires, pondering such a bold claim. You shake your head yes. “Then he shouldn't be an issue. The other two are too far from my grasp to deal with. If I win this war quickly the boy can be rebuffed and the girl . . .” Stannis sighs out. “We'll think of how to deal with dragons later. If they've just been birthed I'll have perhaps a year or two before they're too big to handle. Unless . . .” he trails off, some idea seizing him.

Stannis turns to you, eyeing your form quite . . . intensely. “Unless that is why the Lord of Light has brought you to me. To nip this future threat in the bud. You've given me your forewarning counsels about this war and if all goes according to plan – with the allies at our backs – I'll be sitting upon the Iron Throne before the end of this year. Perhaps you'd be of better use to me handling this girl to the East.”

First things first.
She is lucky. Stupidly lucky. Insanely lucky.
Secondly, she has fanatical followers.
Third, I've no skills in assassination and your brother sent NUMEROUS assassins after her.
Fourth, if the wall does not hold, the options literally are to either burn the undead armies to cinder with dragons or migrate the entire population of Westeros out to Essos and hope the Others don't know how to sail ships.

“That is a wonderful plan, Your Grace,” you inform King Stannis. He nods.

“Good,” he confirms. “Then tomorrow you, Mannis and whoever you have in your retinue will board the Wraith with an escort of a dozen ships from the royal fleet. They'll escort you as far as Pentos before returning to me. I'll need every possible ship to win this war. You will be provided with 500 gold dragons up front to pay for whatever is required to ensure the success of your mission. Upon your successful return there will be a lordship waiting for you. If I am King.”

“And what entails success, Your Grace?” you probe. “Is this an assassination?”

Stannis shrugs. “If that's what is required. I do not want my failures during the rebellion to catch up to me right when the Iron Throne is in my grasp. Kill her, make peace with her, kill her dragons, bring me her dragons, ally with her – Hell, you can promise her a match with my younger brother if that is what's needed to pacify her. I can defeat an army in the field. A navy on the ocean. I could sink every Dothraki screamer her husband possesses here in the Narrow Sea. What I CAN'T do is kill a full-grown dragon. Bring proof to me they're no longer a threat to be feared and there will be a place for you at my court.”

“Convert her to the Lord of Light,” Melisandre offers. “Inform her that King Stannis Baratheon is Azor Ahai reborn. Do this and the dragons will be ours.”

You breathe out. Wew. Alright. Sounds . . . vaguely doable.

“Mannis should remain with you. You may require and adviser with our knowledge or foresight, your Grace,” you point out.

“Alright,” Stannis acquiesces. “Mannis will remain here at Dragonstone. Go see Maester Cressen. He'll dole out your initial payment.

You do much more than receive gold dragons from the good Maester. You request to purchase some of the tomes of knowledge from his collection for you to examine on your journey and he agrees to let you purchase four of them.

After perusing the sources of information, you pick out books about sailing, alchemy, siege engines and strategy.

You search throughout Dragonstone for a man who can speak Dothraki. As luck would have it, you find that Captain Semar himself can speak the tongue. Although he is a bit reticent to help you since the last time he provided you aid his ship got impounded and his crew shanghai'd. Here's my reasons for accepting.
We're gonna be dropped off in Pentos.
From there we need to get our own boat and in order to use that boat, we need a captain.

Preferably a captain that has a vested interest in setting up a mutiny against us because if he does, he'll never get his old ship back.

If we pick just some random dude in a place where we know absolutely no one, we'll be stuck in a situation where we may risk ending up with a crew that will just steal our ship.

You agree to the salty sea captain's terms. However, solely on the condition that he works for you as your personal ship Captain. Semar agrees readily to your terms and promises you honest, loyal service as long as the coin keeps flowing like the Narrow sea.

He joins your retinue of assistants – to whom you all explain the situation of your voyage.

Bronn laughs. Raina grimaces and Chiggen shrugs.

“I'd say they'll write songs about us,” Bronn comments. “But I suppose you'll be doing the songmaking, m'lord,” he honors you sarcastically.

. . .

The very next day – the first day of the new year – you and your entourage board the Wraith and spy your royal escort – headed by Stannis's own flagship. Seems he's really putting a lot of stock in giving you a good chance to succeed, if he's throwing his best ship at accompanying you to Pentos. From a distance you spy Salladhor Saan's Lyseni, pirate fleet sailing in the opposite direction to intercept Myrcella Baratheon. You frown slightly, at the fate that most likely awaits the innocent child. You doubt she'll survive the war. Hopefully she will be burned if she must die - to purify her.

Many will be dead by the time your return, you suppose. But hopefully you'll bring . . . salvation to the continent? Three dragons guarding the Wall could be exactly what you need. Or maybe you'll have to slay them. At this juncture it is hard to tell what your plans are. Everything might have changed if one lucky, plucky anon has had his hands in Daenerys's journey. Your plans to tackle the East side of this narrative will have to wait until you reach Pentos. You require context.

Before you board the ship, Melisandre finds you at the docks and requests a private audience. Following her into an alleyway hidden in the early dawn of the misty morning, nervous anticipation flows through you. Your manhood stirs at the prospect of a quick fuck with the Red Witch as a sendoff to your brave and perilous journey.

Instead however, she simply passes to you an outfit of red, silken robes – much like her own. She explains that there are subtle differences in the stitching and markers to signify you are merely an acolyte as opposed to an officially ordained Red priest – but it is similar enough for laymen to mistake your authority. And any red priest in the know will value your dedication to the faith of R'hllor regardless. She made the set herself – fit to your masculine proportions. So that was the reason she kept grabbing and feeling your shoulders from time to time. Damnit, you were sure there was some sexual tension brewing between the two of you. Seems it was naught by a seamstress preparing a fitted garment.

Well, regardless – you thank her for your gift and vow to make her proud with the religious guidance she has granted you. Melisandre requests once more that you convert Daenerys to the Lord of Light. Her dragons are apparently a gift from his Heart of Fire.

“In fact,” Melisandre begins, as if she is prepared to ominously reveal some secret suspicion of hers. But indecision and silence follow, only for her to end your meeting with a simple, “Never mind,” and a shake of her head.

Huh. Whatever her errant thought was it seems she has dismissed it.

You board the ship, realizing you are horny as shit and blueballed as fuck. You're surrounded by nothing but hardened seamen and Raina. And you're done with Raina – lest your possessive nature gets the better of you again.

Looks like it's time to 'raise the mast' if you know what you mean. Which you do! Thankfully, R'hllor has no tenets chastising the act of self love. Score one for the Fire God. You will be sure to praise him often and loudly on the voyage to cum.

“ENEMY SHIPS APPROACHING OFF THE PORT BOW!” Ser Jacelyn Bywater commands from the fore of Queen Cersei in an authoritative tone that . . . alright, you admit it sends a bit of a tingle down your spine – but that's not important! You rush to the prow and lean over the railings to observe your oncoming assailants.

They don't . . . look like they're part of Stannis's fleet.

“Lyseni,” the helmsman informs you, as he notices your panicked observations. “The Prince of the Narrow Sea himself – Salladhor Saan. Stannis Baratheon must have hired his whole fleet. Damn!” He curses with sudden scorn. “They outnumber us six to one.”

Your fiance stalks up with jingling armor and stomping boots to the helm. He leans towards the hardened sailor. “We need to turn this convoy around.”

The Captain shakes his head vigorously, his salt and pepper haired braids set to whipping round his head. “We turn around now and we're liable to crash into Sharp Point or the Isle of Driftmark.”

Ironhand looks towards the approaching fleet of sellsails and licks his lips nervously. He darts his gaze back to the sailor. “Then what do we do?” he pleads.

The sailor takes a solemn moment to size up the situation before uttering a demented, silly laugh. The hearty laugh of a man good-naturedly facing his own impending doom.

“We fight!”

Jacelyn retreats back a step as the futility of the situation sets in. You're totally fucked. Outplayed and outmaneuvered by a superior force. Your husband-to-be slams his iron fist down into the railing in an outburst of impotent fury.

“Damn! These aren't even the best ships in the fleet!” he laments.

You shrug, slowly and methodically unslinging your crossbow. “They certainly aren't,” you concur coolly.

Ser Jacelyn and the helmsman look back to where you stand, armed and ready. The Captain squints, perhaps wondering if you're bravely facing your death with courage. But your fiance recognizes that look on your face. Where before his visage projected misery – now it is graced with slack-jawed awe.

The White Hart – your tiny fleet's ship at the forefront of the escort – sails forward to do battle.

As the Lyseni close around your scout, you barely make out the form of the one loyal man aboard it rushing towards the aft. He is unarmored – as you had advised him to be.

He dives off the White Hart into the waters of the Gullet. The helmsman – who has pulled out a Myrish fareyes – comments upon observing the man's actions in much better detail.

“Some craven's abandoned his duty. It will be a shallow grave for him.”

You nudge the helmsman's shoulder. “Send a rowboat out to save that man. After you recover.”

“Recover from –”

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

Ser Jacelyn merely clenches the railing tight as the Captain of Queen Cersei stumbles backwards and falls to the deck of his ship.

You know?

You realize there's something you've been missing about the real world. A real motherfucker of an itch this spectacle has just scratched.

Fireworks!

“By the seven, Mira!” Jacelyn shouts. “Are you mad?!”

“A tad, probably,” you admit out loud.

“Is there wildfire on this ship too?” he demands to know.

You chuckle. Implying. “Of course not.”

You spy five of Salladhor Saan's ships sinking beneath the waves and burning, too far gone. Their whole crews dead ordying. The far off distant sounds of screams reach your ears and pleasantly inform you the pirates are probably shitting their breeches right about now.

Another five of Salladhor's fleet aren't completely ruined, but the crews are too busy trying their damnedest to deal with the sprouting green flames to focus on the fight.

“Ser Jacelyn, if you could order Loyal Man, Lady's Shame, and our own trusty Queen Cersei forward: I would appreciate it, my love,” you make sure to finish sweetly.

The Captain has just now stood up and blocks the intensity of the raging green flames with his upper arm.

“What of the Seaflower?” Jacelyn growls between clenched teeth.

You cast your eye back to the golden-hulled war galley – awash in a ghoulish green glow from the prior explosion. Your rear guard.

“Keep your distance,” you simply say. Your fiance fixes you with a tired stare. You shrug once more. You happen to be a big fan of the two nukes strategy. Anyone can have one super weapon. If they call your bluff; demonstrate you have two. They won't risk assuming you lack a third.

“UNRFURL THE SAILS!” Ironhand booms across to your remaining three ships. “MOVE FORWARD!”

Loyal Man and Lady's Shame move forward on your flanks, making sure to skirt the edges of the temporary green portal to hell that shimmers back and forth on the water with the tossing of the waves.

They're father up-water than your own ship and thus approach Salladhor's remaining fleet much faster.

The pirates panic at what they believe to be encroaching green doom – the wailing of their compatriots a preview of their own horrid fate.

One ship to your left banks as hard as possible in a turn that – when combined with the rushing waters of the gullet's narrow passage – causes it to capsize.

You spy another ship to your right that has practically half the crew jumping overboard as Lady's Shame looms near. Better a death at sea than by burning, you suppose. Without a good crew ready to withstand the charge, Lady's Shame's prow goes unchallenged against the soft underbelly of the weaker Lyseni cog. It breaks in two and begins to sink, although Lady's Shame's forward momentum is almost completely blunted.

As you get within range to sink crossbow bolts into the droves of drowning soldiers, a rowboat filled with four men is finally being prepared to find your sole man swimming amongst the waters. You'll try your best not to accidentally shoot him.

You focus first on those seemingly capable of potentially staying afloat. Anyone in actual armor is too busy sinking to the ocean floor to harry your forces. Certain unburdened sailors, however, have enough rage or courage to approach your vessel in an attempt to surmount the slippery hull and climb to enact some sort of half-baked vengeance.

A few bolts aimed at the closest attackers – those with knives in their teeth or powerful looking bodies – are the prime targets. One man even manages to board the rowboat you sent out and earns a bolt straight through the neck for his troubles.

Thankfully for you, reloading is easy with the help of a dutiful fiance who is sorely inaccurate due to a crippling injury.

One of the burning ships that avoided most of the wildfire blast has a seemingly fearless captain hellbent on retaliation. He orders his men to their positions in an attempt to crash his ship into yours – bring you down with him. Recompense for your cowardly, womanly tactics, no doubt. Thankfully, even with the smoke of burnt flesh wafting in between you and your new target, you successfully land a poisoned bolt in his shoulder. He staggers back from the impact and falls backwards overboard – any chance at keeping his crew focused and together rather than a gaggle of panicked, dying men gone completely. Still, you put a bolt through the man at the steering wheel's eyeball for good fucking measure.

You duck below the railing when the first real threat approaches – a completely unharmed ship. Too far forward among the fleet and too smart to attempt a retreat only to end up dead from your fleet's ministrations anyway. Crossbow fire is exchanged between both deck crews. A few men on your side drop dead, bolts or arrows sprouting from fresh wounds, their armor and golden cloaks stained red with blood.

The boarders are few, but the largest concentration of them target the front of the ship. Sailors fall back to defend the Captain and the wheel. A man with the dark skin of the Summer Isles leaps aboard right beside you. You squeak in terror as you draw your knees into your chest. Before glancing your way, Ser Bywater draws his blade and bellows. “For Joffrey!”

The two men meet with a clash of steel, as the pirate's cutlass faces off against Ironhand's longsword. A series of exchanges end with the pirate making a deep cut across Jacelyn's forehead. Blood drips into his eyes, blinding him. Ironhand responds to the wound with a wild punch of his namesake appendage.

His taller, broader attacker is stunned as the iron fist smacks him in the jaw and sends more blood flying onto the deck. The pause in the melee as Jacelyn backs up to recover gives you just enough time to sink a poisoned crossbow bolt in the black man's unarmored back.

He wails in pain and drops to his knees, a hand groping to pull the bolt out of his flesh. Before the poison of your arrow can cause him to convulse, Bywater ends his suffering with a strike to the neck. The longsword lodges in the large man's thick neck, unable to decapitate. But the squirting, pouring blood indicates the kill was near instantaneous.

You look down the ship and see a lull in the fighting. Your men have triumphed and proceed to counter board the Lyseni attackers.

You rush to Ser Jacelyn's side as he wipes the blood off his face with his cloak.

“Commandeer the ship,” he bellows like a wounded lion feigning strength to keep the hyenas at bay. “No true replacement for the White Hart but it will have to suffice.”

You ignore the sounds of sailors being slaughtered as you peer forward. Your ship seems to keep on trucking straight . . . no fuckin' way.

. . . Holy shit. Is that . . . is that a barrel of wildfire?

You spy a barrel of fucking wildfire. Still intact. A slight crack leaks green fluid into the ocean. And it floats right beside a yet-to-retreat Lyseni ship.

Fucking perfect.

You peek overboard and see a floating plank of still burning ship drift by. You're about to whistle for a nearby sailor's attention when you spot your man swimming through the water.

Osney Kettleblack treads water as he waves up to you. His wet dark hair and hooked nose makes him almost appear like a drowned rat. But he smiles at you triumphantly. He is, without a doubt, the true hero behind this insane fucking plan.

You point towards the broken plank. “Throw me that piece of wood.”

He glances at it then stares at you oddly. “The fuck?” he disrespectfully questions.

“Throw it up here or you don't get a spot on my boat.”

Without a word in protest he picks the board up from underneath, his digits from the side that burns and chucks it over the railing of your ship.

You back up as it clatters upon the deck, a few motes of fire starting to spread across Queen Cersei. The captain screams an obscenity, then orders two deckhands to snuff out the flame as quickly as possible.

That's fine. You dip the tip of your bolt into the substance, pulling it back to spy a burning green crossbow bolt. A split second later a bucket of sand is dumped onto the slowly spreading wildfire, snuffing out the threat you brought aboard.

Better hurry before this ruins the crossbow.

You brace your fiery weapon atop the railing of Queen Cersei's railing and line up your shot.

You breathe out softly, steadying your aim.

. . .

THRUM

The bolt soars through the air, a green farewell to your enemies.

Second verse, same as the first!

BOOM

And another Lyseni ship is blown sky high. You glance around. Three of the retreating Lyseni ships too far on the end of their formation have crashed upon the rocky peninsula of Massey's Hook. Lady's Shame is pitifully stuck in the debris of its sole victim. And Loyal Man is still loyally pursuing the enemies far beyond the range you expected it to travel

That's a little over half their forces taken care of. And the rest are already beating a hasty retreat back to the main fleet at Dragonstone. You sigh out, a little proud of yourself.

You search around until you find Kettleblack, drenched with seawater. He grins at you once more.

“I see you found my back up.”

You narrow your eyes in confusion.

“Threw a barrel of the green shit overboard in case something went wrong and the White Hart didn't go up in smoke. Figured we could shoot it.”

You clasp him upon the shoulder. “You did well. King Joffrey will be sure to knight you for this. Get the Seastar flinging its payload at the retreating mercenaries. And find me a living sailor of Salladhor's crew – as far up the chain of command as possible. Question him. Find out if a blonde-haired, emerald eyed man was accompanying this fleet.”

Osney nods before standing up and shaking his hair out like a wet dog. You give him a dirty look which only elicits laughter from the crude man at causing you discomfort. He strides off to do as you asked.

You find Ser Bywater at the helm of the ship barking orders, trying to keep order and discipline among the crew as Queen Cersei surges towards Lady's Shame.

You gently place a hand upon his shoulder, which he shrugs off violently. He stares back over his shoulder, rage and anger plain on his face. You think if he was any less a believer in the chivalric code of his order, he'd have backhanded you by now. Blood still seeps down from his forehead wound into his eyes.

“My Lord, you're injured,” you explain softly.

He sighs out, before looking to his second. “Humfrey Waters, the ship is yours.”

Jacelyn turns around and grabs you by the upper arm – practically dragging you along with him.

You arrive at his personal cabin and he even musters the ire to 'throw' you inside. You stumble slightly, but don't lose your footing entirely.

“My second in command is dead because of you! Allar Deem along with a hundred good men went up along with the White Hart!”

You shake your head vigorously. “Allar Deem was a traitor and loyal to none but himself.” A literal baby killer in another timeline. “One of Janos Slynt's creatures, along with every gold cloak assigned to that ship. Men bitter at the former Commander's removal who were probably in cahoots with the traitor when he attempted to place Renly upon the throne. Untrustworthy. In one fell swoop all the rot and corruption that has festered for years among the city guards has been purged. Don't believe me? Ask the Hand of the King himself. He'll confirm.”

Bywater opens his mouth to speak, but no words come out. Instead his hands find his hips as he stares at the floor of his cabin.

“The Captain of the White Hart –”

“Planned to switch sides and support Stannis Baratheon. Why do you think the ship pushed so far forward? Right into the middle of the enemy fleet's ships without firing or being fired upon. He was surrendering. A turncoat. Or a turnsail or whatever the fuck the word is.”

“And the crew?” Jacelyn probes, one eyebrow cocked.

You shrug. “They . . . would have been forced to follow their Captain.”

“So you burned them alive,” he states.

“They probably died from the blast. The quickest deaths.”

Ironhand rubs his jaw with his good hand as he paces slightly, listening to your words.

“Still, risking the Crown Princess?! One mistake," he snaps. "And this ship gets drenched in wildfire.”

“Are you speaking of the blonde girl currently in the hold?” you specify.

“ . . . No. Ser Meryn Trant –”

“Is cowering in the belly of this ship, pissing his breeches next to Janos Slynt's daughter.”

“Oh? Is she guilty of treason too?” Jacelyn asks sarcastically.

You scoff and laugh at the same time. “Do you know what happened to Slynt?” His face curdles. He's at least heard the rumors if he hasn't heard the screams. You take a step towards your betrothed. “Do you know what happened to Slynt's sons?” Another step. “The youngest was TEN,” you whisper as you step again, now so close you can feel the heat of his body. “It was either bait or target practice.”

He finally summons the courage to stare you in the eyes. “You should have told me.”

Oh yeah. I forgot to say that Velo can only get that information when he finds a trigger for unleashing the stored information.

Children of the Forest can breed but they require the use of human sacrifice.

Faceless Men get their magic powers from their kills. That's why they have to be given assassination quests throughout their training, then they get stronger and stronger, and also more subtle with their magic use.

There are a variety of Anons throughout the far eastern lands doing stuff.

First d100 roll is how much of an Original Velo becomes since he accidentally performed an ancient Vampire making ritual perfectly the other day that Trick didn't mention.

The 2 next d100s are how many earthlings there are.

The last d100 is how many skill points in modern stuff they have.
>>
>>514025
so basically Velo is just a vampire with mild powers.

There are 124 (can't do addition) more earthlings, half of which are in Essos and Easterererer.

They seem to have very little knowledge or skills, so I would assume that a bunch of subhumans from Mississippi have popped up throughout Planetos.

Their skill points are enough to speak, read and write, and one other thing enough to give them some purpose.

“You're right, I should have told you of the plot. But this will not be the last nor the harshest thing we will be forced to carry out. The realm is about to become very bloody and you must be prepared if you expect for me to keep you informed.”

A few seconds pass before Jacelyn nods, silently agreeing to your laying out of the truth.

“Now let's deal with that wound,” you move on, patting your fiance upon the shoulder.

. . .

Perhaps a half hour passes by before Humfrey Waters knocks upon the door and enters.

“Report,” Bywater asks simply of his newly-promoted second.

Lady's Shame has been retrieved with minimal damage to the hull and crew. Loyal Man has yet to return. I believe it may have . . .”

“Defected?” the knight asks, laughing. “Or perhaps the Captain is running scared, fearful of another explosion of wildfire. What of the Seaflower?”

“It was successful in destroying the few ships wounded, but not yet sunk by the previous two explosions. No other kills than that, unfortunately. Salladhor Saan's fleet is too far gone for us to overtake now. Also, the sellsword Kettleblack relays that while there were green-eyed, blonde members of Salladhor's crew – there was no outsider attached to the fleet.”

Damnit. Jacelyn peers at you, aware he is woefully unaware of some major component of this scenario still. “Thank you, Waters. You're dismissed.”

“One last thing, ser,” the subordinate says before fully closing the door. “Sailors of the Seaflower have opined that something is . . . off with the wildfire they were launching. Apparently they had been trained to use it some few weeks earlier.”

Jacelyn furrows his brow, looking back to the man. “Were they defective?”

“No, ser. The individual jars appear to be more . . . potent, than they were a week previous. By their own tested accounts. That is all.”

After the bastard takes his leave, Jacelyn waits for your explanation.

“Look,” you begin. “You . . . don't believe me to simply be a regular handmaid, right?”

“Of course not,” he answers.

“There were many reasons for this scheme . . . but perhaps the greatest motivator was a desire to kill a specific individual.”

“A blonde-haired man with green eyes?”

You nod. “Yes.”

“Why?”

You sight out. “He . . . can see the future. A future. One that . . . due to his own interference. And my own. Has gone . . . slightly off-course.”

“ . . . Huh,” Ser Jacelyn answers. “Are you telling me this man employs magic. As Stannis's witch does, supposedly.”

You nod your head. “Yes. And much like the red priestess he has joined with Stannis. Although his visions are much clearer, if more likely to be inaccurate. I hoped to utilize his visions of the future against him to . . . slay him.”

“And how do you know he possesses these visions?”

“ . . .”

Ser Jacelyn merely shuts his eyes and slowly nods to himself as he takes your silence for his answer. A few moments of contemplation pass, as the Queen Cersei is rocked back and forth by the churning waters of the gullet. “So . . . he saw Myrcella being shipped to Dorne and you sought to trick him by making him believe it was actually happening. Even if I were to believe this insanity, why would he come himself? Why put himself in danger?” Jacelyn gesticulates his inquiry with his hands.

“Frankly, he's kind of an idiot,” you admit, shrugging.

Ser Jacelyn chortles. “Not as stupid as you think, it appears.”

This is the second time you've underestimated him, you realize.

“Still,” Jacelyn comments, wiping his face. “We won the battle, at least. Even managed to claim ourselves a prize. What do you think we should rename the Lyseni dromond to?”

“Wellllll,” you draw out as you think. “Considering where the battle occurred and the tactics utilized – it would not be incorrect to say we poured wildfire down our 'gullet'. Remind you of anyone in history?” you ask the leading question, with a playful smirk upon your face.

Ser Jacelyn manages an honest laugh, free of cynicism or darkness. “Alright. Once we get turned around and back to port, I'll put the shipwrights to work.”

Jacelyn looks up to the top of his cabin and utters one last small chuckle. “Brightflame it is.”

. . . . . . . . .

“SEVENTEEN FUCKING SHIPS!” Salladhor shouts at you.

“I know, I know,” you try to placate him, holding your hands out.

“SEVENTEEN. FUCKING. SHIPS!”

“Alright, mate. I understand.”

“Do you? Do you understand how long it takes to acquire seventeen fucking ships? Do you know how much longer it takes to find a crew loyal enough not to steal any of the seventeen fucking ships.”

God, this ratbag's accent is un-fucking-bearable.

“I get it. You lost a lot of ships.”

“I LOST A LOT OF FUCKING SHIPS, YES. Because Stannis Baratheon, king of nothing promised me a princess. Not maniacs wielding wildfire. Half my fleet, half my crew – gone. And I have nothing. I should take what little I have left and leave.”

As the Wraith approaches the massive high walls of Pentos, you halt your sparring match with Bronn to take in the sights. A majestic, sprawling cityscape greets your eyes. Square brick towers with tiled rooves. Walled estates and manses twinkles in the distance from the docks area your vessel approaches. Breathing in the smell of salt water as you near – squawking gulls provide a musical procession in honor of your arrival at the port city. A windy ocean breeze chills your bones, cooling you from the sweltering heat of summer as Dale Seaworth guides his ship into port.

One of the Free Cities of Essos! Pentos. Ruled by a council of rich magisters with a prince for a figurehead. You've had five days to plan what your first move here would be. And you think you have an idea of how to start your grand quest for Daenerys Targaryen.

My first roll on qst and it rolled successfully ... I'm so proud of myself

Also, I'm assuming we spent the journey here alternating between studying our books on sailing, strategy and siege craft, and improving our spearfighting+brawling skills

I think the first thing we should do while we're here is get ouselves invited to stay in some rich magister's manse. We've always said that one of our goals is to live comfortably and make the 8 while we save the world - singing our way into the hearts and minds of the richest locals is the best way to get ourselves a soft bed, good food and info contacts.
>Our singing is off the rails

With all your retinue and equipment gathered upon the docks, you wait with Dale as his ships purchase some scant few supplies and prepare to sail back to Dragonstone. You clasp the young man's hand in a hearty handshake and wish him the best in his endeavors. He wishes you the same and hopes good fortune will abound for you on your journey.

“You'll need it,” he ultimately tells you.

Semar, Bronn, Chiggen and Raina stand with you in solidarity as you watch Seaworth's Wraith fade back behind the misty curtain that hangs over the shoreline of the Narrow Sea.

. . .

Despite the language barrier of the bastardized Valyrian these Pentoshi speak and the Westerosi language you communicate in – the cosmopolitan nature of the docks area provides an environment for a lot of speakers and translators of various languages to have some modicum amount of skill in the communication of information with foreigners.

And boy do you have foreign information to provide. Nothing TOO juicy, but a rundown of the conflict just starting to brew in the Seven Kingdoms is enough pay for most of the local knowledge about what's going on in Pentos.

The most recent piece of news you discover is that Magister Illyrio has recently received a new slave – a formidable and famous pitfighter from Meereen. Strong Belwas is his name and he is a eunuch crisscrossed with a hundred scars from a hundred different battles – all of which he has won.

The next piece of news you learn of takes you by surprise. Apparently there is a reward being offered by the late King Robert Baratheon – promising lands and a lordship to the man who can slay Viserys Targaryen or his sister. And apparently ever since . . . Viserys has been kept under constant guard inside Magister Illyrio's manse. When you probe the Tyroshi sailor to repeat his statement, he does so with astounding accuracy. Apparently Viserys Targaryen is still staying with Illyrio Mopatis.

When you investigate further, it seems that Viserys Targaryen was present for the marriage of Khal Drogo and his sister – but decided to remain in Pentos with Illyrio until the exiled prince received Khal Drogo's pledged warriors. Viserys has since been deep in his cups, cavorting and feasting to his heart's content, screaming and boasting of how soon he will lead a Dothraki army to reclaim his birthright.

Moving on from that major deviation from the novels, you discover a few more interesting nuggets of information.

Apparently a Magister Ordello has been making enemies and waves in Pentos by hosting, feasting and consorting with sellsword captains from around the area – skirting the ban on hiring sellswords enforced by Braavos in the aftermath of the many defeats Pentos has suffered at the hands of its sister city in war.

And the last piece of news – only standing out to you because of the name – is that a Summer Islander leading a pirate crew has recently begun to make a name for himself among the Stepstones to your south. Since Salladhor Saan's departure for Dragonstone, there has been a slight power gap that required filling and it seems that one Othello is currently attempting to do so. He is reputed to have a violent temper and is prone to emotional outbursts. He styles himself a warrior poet – as opposed to a simple pirate. And rumor has it that last his ships were seen they were sailing north – whether for Braavos or for Pentos - no one knows for sure.

You're certain he's from Earth. Has to be, considering he named himself fucking Othello.

. . . shit.

Is that how dumb you sound when other earthlings hear your name is William Shakespeare? Ugh.

You shake your head.

Are they calling this guy a "Summer Islander" just because he's black (which makes the name he chose for himself fit) or did he actually pop up in the Summer Islands as well? If the latter, it raises an interesting point: does he speak Westerosi Common? So far we've basically just been speaking English and it's been coming out as the Westerosi Common Tongue. But for an anon who popped up in Qarth or Asshai or Slaver's Bay, it'd be wierd if they automatically spoke Westorosi but not the local language. If we met such an anon and had a conversation in English, would people around us hear us speaking in 2 different languages while we heard English from each other, or what? Obviously thia quest woukd have been a shit if it had started with us not being able to speak a damn word, but if English=Westorosi, it raises questions for anons dropped elsewhere.

It's time – finally! – to purchase a ship. A seafaring vessel to call your own! One you can use to accomplish your objectives, whatever they happen to be.

There is a wide variety of ships for sale in Pentos. With the type of coin you're packing, honestly anything is possible – although rarer or more exotic ships will be sold at a slightly inflated cost. You'll likely be buying a ship off hardened sailors who will require coin for a return voyage back to their home port.

forget about the skin color thing. I want to know if an anon who woke up in Pentos rather than Westoros would speak Pentoshi Valyrian. We're speaking English but its obviously coming out as Westorosi. That might just be because English IS Westorosi, however. All of the words are literally just the same, except for Westorosi twists like "ser" and names, and Mannis's Aussie nonsense. They're basically the same language though. If that's the case I feel bad for any anons who woke up in Essos, since they wouldnt be able to communicate. The other possibility, though, is that when we speak English it just comes out as Westorosi. Similarly, then, when an anon who was dropped in Pentos speaks English, everyone around them just hears Pentoshi Valyrian. What would happen if we met such an anon and spoke to each other in English? what language would people around us hear?

Swan Ship. Yes, it's wind dependent, but so is anything other than a galley, and we need something capable of true bluewater voyages (i.e. not a galley) if we're to be off to Slavers' Bay. Speed is great if we need to beat Dany back to Westorosbor beat somebody to her. Speed will also help us with pirates, and if we were becalmed we'd be easy pickings no matter what. (Pirates would overman thier oars for a short sprint to capture, carrying more rowers than we could house and water for a longer voyage.) I've always pictured Swan Ships as basically clipper ships, not only *faster than you* but WAY faster than anything on the water so long as they have room to run, and basically the best ship from a seamanship perspective (if not necessarily a weapons platform one, although some Summer Island longbowmen could help fix that) unless you need big maneuverability in tricky inshore waters, in which case longboats are better.

ROOMY REFERS SOLELY TO BELOW DECK TRANSPORTATION OF SUPPLIES, PROVISIONS, TRADE GOODS

YOU CAN ATTACH SIEGE WEAPONS TO A CARRACK

BUT IT DOES NOT HAVE "EXTRA" ROOM ON THE TOP DECK FOR SIEGE WEAPONS TO UTILIZE
>>
Here's my reasoning.
>Longship raider.
Reasonable choice, but as it is basically a viking ship it's highly susceptible to siege weapon and offers no crew protection.
>Carrack
Roomy = Room for upgrades. We've got money, we can load it up with lots of siege weapons.

Carrack

Alright, I'll start with this first vote by just eliminating the ships nobody mentioned.

Nobody wants an Ibbenese Whaler, a cog or a galley. So we'll throw those out. Think about why you made the choice you did, look at the arguments others have brought up. Think about what you seek to do in the future.

Now, revote.

>Longship [145 gold dragons] (long, narrow, speedy, AMAZING IN SHALLOW WATER, fragile) {35 crew MAX; 20 crew MIN}

>Carrack [200 gold dragons] (large, stable, ROOMY, juicy target for pirates) {400 crew MAX; 75 crew MIN}

>War Dromond [240 gold] (same as galley, but bigger for more soldiers, rowers and siege weapons, RAM) {300 crew MAX; 125 crew MIN}

>Long Ship Raider [290 gold dragons] (same as longship, but bigger for more soldiers and siege weapons) {100 crew MAX; 30 crew MIN}

>Swan Ship [350 gold dragons] (Exotic, FASTER THAN YOU, no wind no movement) {250 crew MAX; 80 crew MIN}
>>
>>517162
>>Carrack [200 gold dragons] (large, stable, ROOMY, juicy target for pirates) {400 crew MAX; 75 crew MIN}

Gotta make sure there's enough combatants on the ship to protect it from boarding and I believe this will be a fine vessel.

The carrack has sixteen “siege weapon slots” two near the front, six along each side, and two in the back.

>Small Scoprion [70 gold dragons] (Fires spears or stones) {Requires 2 crew; 1 slot}
>Medium Scoprion [95 gold dragons] (Fires spears or stones) {Requires 4 crew; 2 slot}
>Large Scoprion [190.5 gold dragons] (Fires spears or stones) {Requires 6 crew; 3 slot}

>Small Catapult [75 gold dragons] (Fires heavy stones) {Requires 4 crew; 2 slots}
>Medium Catapult [335 gold dragons] (Fires heavy stones) {Requires 6 crew; 4 slots}
>Large Catapult [1200 gold dragons] (Fires heavy stones) {Requires 8 crew; 6 slots}

>Spitfire [25 gold dragons] (Fires clay pots of boiling oil) {Requires 3 crew; 1 slot}

NOTE: You have roughly 6800 gold dragons left to spend. You still need to buy crew and ammo for whatever you have. All siege slots do not need to be filled.

Try to come to some consensus.

Ammo.

>Wildfire jars [50 gold dragons] {10 jars maximum} (you can also sell your 4 for 200 gold dragons)
>Scorpion Bolts [50 silver stags] {to fire all eight once will cost 200 silver stags}
>Boiling oil barrels [70 silver stags] {to fire both at once will cost 2/3rds of a gold dragon}
>Stone shot [10 silver stags] {to fire all eight once will cost 80 silver stags}

I'm going to be honest, you have enough room on your ship and enough money that you can stock up on a LOT of ammo. You'll need AT MINIMUM 114 crew to run the ship and have men at the ready for all weapons currently. You can have a maximum crew of 400.

Adding in the fact that your four horses take up two slots each for another 12. Millennium the dog will bunk with you. The wagon takes up 15 crew slots. And we're at 141.

Which means currently you can add an additional 259 crew. For each crew slot that you devote to carrying ammo instead . . . let me just work out the conversions.

1 stone shot = 1 crew slot

10 wildfire jars = 1 crew slot

4 barrels of boiling oil = 1 crew slot

50 scorpion bolts = 1 crew slot

So, in theory you can have 259 stone shots.

I know this is all super advanced and perhaps too tactical. But fuck it I'm balls deep at this point.

Also, considering that in order to return to Westeros, we require the ability to sail high seas, our options were limited to a Longship, Swan Ship and a Carrack.

Swan ship was disregarded due to fear of calm weather.
Long Ship was disregarded due to the fact that it's fragile and open topped, which means that we can't do much during the voyage.

Therefore a carrack was chosen.

You purchase a large merchant trading vessel – a carrack just recently recovered after its entire crew was taken captive by the now-infamous Othello. It was discovered floating upon the water.

No one has bought it yet due to superstition and claims of curses. You however are not discouraged by such ill omens and snatch it up before some other pragmatic, economically-minded man buys it.

Right afterwards you set Semar to picking up and hiring the bravest, loyalest sailors and crew imaginable. You've thankfully gathered information of some more adventurous sorts – and with the promise of a daring journey on the high seas you're sure to gather a hearty, fearless crew.

Immediately after purchasing your ship – which you christen the Argo is honor of the Greek tale for the Golden Fleece – you set about loading it up with siege weapons and ammo. You even go so far as to purchase a few more jars of wildfire from some alchemists hailing from the shadow lands of Asshai.

After that the rest of your hold not going towards holding ammo or men is dedicated to storing various trade goods you plan to sell along the way, hoping to make a killing as a merchant.

Altogether your preparations will require a week to set up properly on your ship and give your crew time to give goodbyes to their families..

How do you spend your week here in Pentos.

On the first day of your forced vacation in Pentos, you ride your horse to the gates of Magister Illyrio Mopatis's manse. Illyrio's stronghold is protected by twelve feet high brick walls topped with iron spikes. Two plump Unsullied guards cross spears – barring your entry through the main gatehouse into Illyrio's palace.

The eunuch chatters at you in some bastardized version of Valyrian or perhaps the Ghiscari language – you have trouble determining whether it's the Astapori accent or simply an entirely different language that makes his words sound so foreign compared to the other foreign words you've been hearing lately.

“Do either of you speak Westerosi?” you ask, looking between the two.

“I do,” one answers, nodding.

“Tell Magister Illyrio Mopatis that Lord William Shakespeare wishes to talk with him about important matters.”

The two eunuchs exchange looks, but the one who can understand your words nods. “I will inform Magister Illyrio. He will contact you. Maybe.”

You suppose that's the best you're getting. You return the respectful nod and ride off, returning to the cobbled streets where the lower classes are packed together as opposed to the districts filled with sprawling estates for wealthy merchant princes.

Deciding to spend your time doing something productive, you spread the word of R'hllor. Pentos has a variety of different religions – R'hllor worship among them. You are not the only red priest evangelizing among the beggars, craftsman and sailors. But you quickly become recognized as one of the more persuasive ones.

Perhaps it has something to do with your charming good looks or the fact that many of the people you're proselytizing to can't understand your language. So instead of annoying they find your bombastic foreign speech entertaining and interesting.

People gather to listen to you speak while Bronn and Chiggen uncomfortably stand on either side, protecting you in case some bravo takes offense to you speaking too loudly on 'his' street corner.

Thankfully no altercations occur and some of the men about to follow you are inspired by your words of the Fire God's guidance, having come to watch their employer-to-be speak.

After four days of this conduct an envoy dressed in fine silks with a golden sash approaches the wooden crate you stand upon.

“Magister Mopatis has agreed to dine with you tonight,” he informs you with a bow and an official writ sealed with the sigil of the wealthy and powerful magisters – a golden spire.

It is a simple invitation – agreeing to hear what you have to say and hoping you bring exciting word to a 'humble' merchant.

When you approach the manse upon your steeds – your bodyguards flanking you – this time the eunuchs let you pass.

You trot through his beautiful garden and stable your powerful warhorses. Illyrio Mopatis walks out to greet you personally – a tall, fat man with sagging breasts akin to those you'd normally see on an aging, busty mother. He has course yellow hair and a forked beard – oiled and perfumed. Under the fresh scents however, a faint whiff of something rotten and disgusting wafts off his pale, bulbous flesh.

Adorned in a simple outfit and dozens of various gemstone rings – his hands a veritable rainbow of glittering wealth - he smiles broadly. A hearty laugh has his huge belly roil like it's ready to explode.

“Hello,” he greets warmly, approaching with merely a dozen guards trailing behind him. His accent is subtle, but present – unlike Varys. “Welcome to my manse. I apologize – I doubt it serves as grand a sight as your own proudly erected castles back in your homeland. I am the Magister you wished to see. To what do I owe the pleasure of a Westerosi lord's audience? You have come a long way from home indeed, my friend.”

“I wish to contact Princess Daenerys Targaryen and her horselord husband Khal Drogo,” you inform your host.

He giggles as he wraps his sausage-fingered hand around your shoulder. “Yes, yes. Come with me. I have a lavish dinner set up in my hall for us all to enjoy. He waves his guards away and half of them leave while you are escorted -- very personally -- inside the ornate, intricate palace.

“Yes, yes. I was the one who initiated the match between the exiled Targaryen princess and the grandest Khal to ever 'sail' the Great Grass Sea.”

Finally you arrive at his feast hall, where a long trestle table is covered in various dishes from all across the world. Seafood, meat, honeyed nuts, almonds, a dozen different types of bread, sausages and more to feed this corpulent, hedonistic fellow.

He takes his seat at the head and gestures for you to sit beside him. Bronn and Chiggen elect to stand, ready for any sort of trouble. Illyrio digs into his food and you make sure to only begin munching on dishes that he himself has already picked at first.

“I even attended their wedding," Mopatis comments, gesturing with a chicken leg. "I gifted Daenerys Stormborn three stone dragon eggs and watched ten men die that day. Unfortunately, despite my support, patronage and the fact that I still let Viserys Targaryen roam my manse as he pleases – I have no clue where Daenerys Targaryen currently resides. I hate to inform you that you have wasted your time and come to the wrong man – as I love to please – but I am unable to bring you two in contact. “Of course!” you lie to the Pentoshi magister. “I've been helping out Aemon quite a bit, you know,” you addend with a chuckle.

He frowns as he stares at you. “Aemon?” he speaks the name with some uncertainty, his triple chin warbling. “Who do you speak of?”

“Oh, well he would be her . . . let's see. He is the Mad King Aerys Targaryen's uncle. So Aemon would be Princess Daenery's grand uncle or cousin.”

Mopatis frowns. “He must be very old indeed.”

“Pushing one hundred. He's a maester for the Night's Watch. Blind and feeble-bodied, but with a wit as sharp as ever.”

“Oh! So you've met the man?”

You rub the back of your head. “Not quite. I have done a lot of work for his organization, however.”

Illyrio leans back in his chair, causing it to creak painfully. “That's a shame. I am sure Viserys would love to meet with a man who has brought news or kind words from a living relative. He has grown quite despondent since the marriage of his sister. Do you know they call him behind his back? The Beggar Prince. He goes from Free city to Free city spending ancient treasures in the hopes of reclaiming his homeland. And now he has gifted away his last remaining possession – his sister -- in one more vain hope this will bring him a crown,” Illyrio finishes his monologue by taking a deep sip from his wine goblet, streaks of red running through his blonde beard. He shakes his head morosely.

“Quite sad, truly. I believe I have misled him. Now his sister is nowhere to be found, Khal Drogo has yet to contact Viserys about an army and now there is a bounty on the poor prince's head! Can you believe the Usurper offers a lordship to any who would slay him? His sister too! Last correspondence I had with the Khaleesi was news from Vaes Dothrak. A wine seller attempted to poison her. Your . . . game of Kings or whatever you name it in the West is quite dangerous.”

I'm rather drawing a blank on what exactly we could do with Vyserys. The man's a vain, arrogant simpleton, right? Hardly a contact worth making or a resource worth exploiting.

Ask about the dragon eggs and send the letter.

On discord the idiots are planning on taking him to wall and setting fire on to him in order to attempt to hatch dragons and bind them to Jon.

They seem to have forgotten that the eggs probably have hatched already and even if they haven't, we might end up in a situation where we're just sitting on three unhatched eggs for the duration of the winter as white walkers ravage Westeros.

Intriguing though it'd be to see what would happen if we sacrificed Vyserys to the Lord of Light, I don't really see it working in a way to advance our cause for Stannis or helping any potential connections we want to make with Denaerys.

“I'm curious about these dragon eggs you gifted Daenerys . . .” you trail off.

He laughs heartily as he starts to mix himself some yogurt with raspberries. “Yes, three fossilized eggs. Turned to stone with the ever coming eons of time. Large, beautiful things they were. One was scaled a deep green color with burnished flecks of bronze. Another the color of pale cream and streaked with gold. A third black as night with scarlet ripples and swirls. Very expensive – but merely esoteric trinkets at the end of the day. Decorations each worth a king's ransom eacn. And three king's ransoms I did pay for them. Traders from the Shadowlands – beyond Asshai – brought them to Pentos so I assume that is where their origins lie.”

Illyrio sighs out, wistfully. “I don't know what fits of fancy urged me to gift her those gorgeous relics as presents. She is a beautiful woman,” he admits nodding to himself. “And it seemed . . . fitting. Perhaps, if Khal Drogo really does take the Seven Kingdoms for her she'll remember who gave her those gifts and offer me . . .” he trails off, chuckling once more. “Look at me, grown fat and prone to daydreams of grandeur in my old age.”

You think to ask Illyrio send word of your exploits via Varys to Jaime and Tyrion – but decide against it.

You stand up. “Well, thank you for your time, the food and your attempts to aid my search. Even if they bear no fruit, I appreciate your cordial reception of myself and my plea.”

“And I your company, Lord Shakespeare!” The magister declares with a wide smile and a gestured greasy finger.

You stand and he stands as well, wiping chicken grease off on his robe, insisting he personally escort you to your horses.

Mopatis follows by your side, the impromptu posse striding along to the stables, Bronn and Chiggen following a few paces behind.

“Now,” he speaks as you you pass his pool with a painted marble statue of a naked young bravo at its center – allegedly a younger Illyrio Mopatis – “If you do find Daenerys Targaryen I hope – because of my hospitality and because you possess the compassion to soothe a poor merchant's heart about the state of his investment – that you will send word to me of her location and the state she is in. If she is in trouble I would no doubt be willing to provide her with safety from would-be assassins and a room to sleep in once more. I wish you luck in your endeavours.” Mopatis bows with a grace rare to see in such a fat man.

Upon reaching the stables and saddling the grand destrier you call your steed – Illyrio poses one last question.

“If I may be so bold as to ask, where are you planning to sail? I do not know where Princess Daenerys is. You do not know where Princess Daenerys is. Where do you believe you might find our exiled princess?”

“Volantis,” you inform the Magister.

He nods. “A good place to start.”

. . .

You occupy the next three days of your time by preaching to the good people of Pentos about R'hllor's majesty. In the meantime you spend a few coppers trying to jury rig a compass. And the fruits of the experiments show that . . . compasses just don't seem to work. You're not detecting a magnetic field of any sort with the homemade device. Planetos's magnetic field just . . . doesn't seem to exist. Or at least the device you've jury rigged isn't able to pick up on it. Perhaps . . . all the things magnetism provides in ASOIAF is actually provided by R'hllor!

Just one more reason to worship him.

. . .

Captain Semar informs you the journey to Qarth will take 37 days. Which will cost you roughly one hundred gold when all is said and done to pay your men.

“The first place we can dock to offload some of this cargo,” Semar informs you, “Is Tyrosh. The Harbor City. They're greedy but support mercantilism. It is a fortress of a city and supports the slave trade. Right afterwards we'll be heading into the Stepstones – a chain of islands most notable for the many lurking pirate dens that no surrounding force has been able to clean up. Should we sell our supplies at Tyrosh, m'lord?”

>>
>>521830
On one hand I support profit. On the other hand, there are pirates, which to an optimist means just that much more profit as the trade route is risky
>>
>We'll sail past without stopping
Here's the reason why.
The further you take the goods from their point of origin, the more exotic they become and thus more expensive.

Secondly, if Dany's dragons hatched the moment we saw the vision and she's moving at 21 miles a day with the remains of her Khalasar, then we've around 60 days till she reaches Qarth.

Our trip to Qarth is estimated to take 37 days.
The boat took 3 days to get ready and the trip to Pentos took 6 days.
In total, we've two weeks worth of time to waste on our trade route if schedule holds.

Keep in kind that loading and unloading stuff also takes it's time, so if we stop at every port, we will miss her.

Also, if we do not arrive in Qarth before her, we !ay lose the chance to talk to the Undying.

Preaching of the greatness of R'hllor for the first three days of your journey gets a fair amount of off-duty sailors attending your sermons. Sure, some of these men can't understand your language and a fair few more turn away or don't take the teachings to heart. But many new converts and old faithful alike nod along with your proselytizing and utter exclamations of agreement with your moral preaching.

A few even say the words you love so much in sync with your proverbs.

“The night is dark and full of terrors!” three dozen voices announce in unison, one fine morning of your third day at sea. Immediately afterwards, the lit torch held in your left hand to represent R'hllor's fire begins to convulse most unnaturally as the session is about to conclude. You reel back slightly, your innate instinct to fear being burned by the flames almost overwhelming your senses.

But you fight against those ill-formed base desires and instead stare deep into the flames. The fire dies down, almost snuffed out. But instead of the flame merely dying – the lost fire is replaced with a growing plume of black smoke.

Studying it for a sign or an image proves fruitful. A black fist raises from the fire, squeezing tightly around the head of a snake, crushing it in its grip.

A swift sea breeze blows away the image a moment later before the gasping and awed sailors can truly observe the omen's specific depiction.

Huh.

“My loyal crew!” You declare, dropping the torch into a barrel of water to douse the flames. “R'hllor has granted us a vision! A vision of a fist crushing a snake. And crush a snake we will. Our victory has been assured by the Lord of Light against our enemies!”

Before your men can wave and cheer at your interpretation of the divine imagery, a fair-haired Lyseni sailor, barely out of adolescence, rushes to where your people are gathered towards the stern of the ship. “PIIIIIIIIIRATES!” he shouts in a shrill, piercing tone and the mere word of a threat brings the men back into the realm of mortals.

Not panic, but chaos sets in as sailors rush to their stations or to the sides of the ship to spy the approaching pirate ships with their own eyes. You are drawn in by the same pressing desire and hurry to the port railing, leaning over heavily to find eight ships approaching from the [/i]Argo's[/i] bow – four of them being the swan ships of the Summer Isles.

“Crap,” you mutter under your breath. They'll be faster than you for sure if you pass them by. The wind favors half their fleet.

“Gods!” a man who had only recently been prasing R'hllor lets slip his true faith. The swarthy, olive-skinned fellow looks up to the Lyseni teenager who uttered the first warning. “What flag are they bearing?” he inquires with trepidation.

“Black hands wrapped around a neck as pale as milk. Captain Semar spied the name of their flagship with his fareyes. It's the Desdemona for sure.”

You hear a few cries of despair and see men all around you clasping their hands in prayer, muttering for safety and strength from what's about to occur.

“The ship was cursed.”

“We should have known.”

“This was a fool's venture.”

And half a dozen more complaints and cries of poor decisionmaking resound around you in a variety of unintelligible languages.

“MY LOYAL CREW!” you shout at the top of your lungs, drawing the attention of your men to you. “Do not lose heart!” you command as you make your way towards the Argo's prow. “R'hllor provides us with all that we need. He provides us with the life we cherish. He provides us with visions of our future – a fist crushed around the head of these pirates – THESE SNAKES! And most importantly he provides us with fire. I promise you that all who oppose us with be sent to the depths of the sea bathed in flames. I promise you that this ship will not be sunk today. I promise you that we will blast and scatter their forces to the depths of seven Hells. Follow the flames and they will purify and signify our victory!”

The men cheer with renewed vigor and enthusiasm at your fearless demeanor, strutting towards the front of your ship and the oncoming opponents – Valyrian Steel spear held high. Even if they can't see the etched depictions of slaying White Walkers up close, they've heard stories from men that have.

You reach the wheel, where Captain Semar stands proudly – observing the enemy forces from far away on the high seas.

He drops the fareyes he was peering through at your approach and gives you the sitrep.

“The four swan ships are currently facing us, against the wind. So they are dead in the water unless they turn round and attack. Currently approaching are two trade galleys close together, a cog far from the pack and a war galley down the center. The war galley is the biggest threat, but if we fire the wildfire we can potentially burn down both trade galleys. Or we could save the wildfire. Your battle plan, Commander?” Semar asks.

The flag ship is now in the front but the War galley and the two trade cogs.
So the flag ship is in the back if there is an anon he don't see us waving anything on our ship. He's sit back and watch the battle.

The pirates don't go easy on us if we say we're from Earth, they keep on going with the orders anon gave them, and board our ship get all our gold 5k of it and kill people.

Maybe rape Raina and that girl where with. Know that the pirates have there orders, there not going to turn back and give us a change to slip away, which is something they will think. They'll keep coming. My plan is to fire wildfire at the war galley and get them to stop then we could talk.

>>525313
They'll going to fire well before they can see, since they want the loot and we don't know what they have. Your plan put too many people at risk for what? Something that don't work, I said to stop the War galley first, then we're move on from there.
>>
>>525322
That's why we need to hoist the hastily made American on the mast so they can see it.
If they'll keep coming as is, then you'll blast em with wildfire.
If they'll break formation and send out a cog alone, then we can parlay.

We've got hundreds of people in our crew, it'll take but a minute for Raina to whip up an American flag and for us to hoist it on the mast. It will not hurt our combat preparation in the slightest.
>>
>>525344

“Load the spitfire with a jar of wildfire. Show them we aren't to be trifled with,” you order.

Semar looks behind him to the crew. “Load the forward spitfire!” he commands and a dozen sailors spring into action, performing various tasks to prepare the proper conditions conducive to operating the siege weapon.

You yourself approach the spitfire – something quite similar in design and construction to an onager back on Earth – and demonstrate to the men via your posture and position that you will be the one organizing flinging hellfire upon your enemies. Really would be a poor speech about R'hllor's gift if the red priest equivalent wasn't the one operating the weapon.

An old weathered man with tanned swarthy skin places a clay pot of wildfire, worn with rough ridges to aid in any man's grip, into the spitfire.

He backs away and two strong lads – one a black Summer Islander and the other an extremely pale Qartheen – stand on either side of the weapon, while you are in control of angling the trajectory of your payload's arc.

Wow, you never thought you'd be operating a siege weapon under real combat conditions before. This is almost a dream come true. You remember sitting in class, reading books and listening to online and in person lectures about what medieval warfare was like.

You squint one eye and try to gauge the distance. If a spitfire has about the same range as an onager then . . . alright, you think you've got the shot lined up accurately. Thankfully the war galley is approaching directly from your front. Its just a straight line. Here's hoping you don't under or overshoot.

“LOOSE!” you boom and your temporary assistants pull the levers.

FWOOSH

You follow the arc of the wildfire pot as it soars through the air towards its target.

Going . . . going . . . fuck!

SPLOOSH

The jar plops harmlessly in the water, some few dozens of feet short of your oncoming target. You undershot.

Sailors around you suck in their breath and others groan at the failure. You find yourself grimacing.

The war galley decides to return fire. Two catapults fire dozens of stones at your ship. Seems their aim is off as well as the most dangerous of the stones plunk harmlessly into the waters around you. A few small rocks and pebbles – a few clods of dirt – harmlessly rain upon your ship like a light hail. The worst casualty is one man is struck in the leg by a small rock. His skin breaks and he falls to the deck of the Argo, bleeding.

You guess it's time to –
>>
>>527529
One more shot of wildfire they are aiming to kill us. Show them we mean business.
>>
BOOM

Your head swivels back round to your main target. A small explosive burst of emerald flame emanates from the waters as the war galley travels onward. A sprouting wildfire burns near the bottom of the ship. Not a large or impossible to quench flame – but a fire on the ship nonetheless.

You find yourself grinning and laughing. The idiots must have sailed directly over the floating clay pot, rupturing it and causing the liquid to react in a most volatile manner.

A few of the men nearby who noticed the pitiful success let out a reluctant cheer of hope.

“The Lord of Light has not abandoned us yet!” one individual cries.

While most likely only doing surface or cosmetic damage to the war galley – the ship veers off course and drops pursuit all the same. The two trading galleys to your starboard halt their efforts as well – most likely upon seeing the use of wildfire. They begin turning in a large arc, retreating back to the bulk of the flotilla.

The puttering little cog however does not retreat. Its current projected course, if it does not turn at all, will have it pulling up alongside your ship.

Semar frowns. “No siege weapons on that cog. Its not even a warship. Barely more than a dinghy. Any boarding party it has would be small.” He rubs his chin with a wrinkled hand. “What's the pirate's game here?”

“Turn this ship round!” you order. “I don't trust that cog. Fire the rear weapons!”

Captain Semar spins the wheel of your carrack, yelling to his subordinate so they can spread the order down the chain of command to the oarsmen.

You retreat to the ship's stern as men are already arming the rear spitfire with a barrel of boiling oil. Another group of men are operating the small scorpion to your right.

The pirate ship gets closer . . . and closer . . . and closer as your own much more massive ship lurches with the creaking of wood and masts, seeming like a lumbering giant as the much faster trading cog zips towards you.

If that thing goes up in green fire right next to your ship you're fucking done for.

When the pursuing enemy is only a few hundred or so scant feet from the back of your ship the Argo has finally turned round and begins to flee from the pirate armada.

The shot is lined up. Its a straight line, just like last time. Only this target is much closer and therefore way easier for you to eyeball. You set up the arc and trajectory for a few precious seconds and then . . .

“LOOSE!” The levers are pulled.

FWOOSH

A barrel of boiling oil sails through the sky, but much unlike your last attempt at ship to ship combat, this exchange has a climactic and satisfying ending.

The heated oil bursts open upon the enemy pirates, hitting smack dab in the center. Fire spreads immediately, a few shooting streams of flaming oil catching onto the sails. Regular flames spread across the center of the top deck and you even spy three figures, bathed in flames and flailing wildly as they burn to death.

Like distant torches you watch from a distance as they throw themselves into the sea in an attempt to quickly save their skins – a futile effort made even worse by the fact that the cog does not stop its furious pursuit. They'll be left to drown, entering shock from their tremendously horrific third degree burns. You're glad you don't have to see that shit up close.

The two men to your right operating the scorpion finally fire their bolt and it pierce the front hull of the burning trade ship. A few men on board the enemy ship seem to be rushing about in a frantic panic, throwing buckets of seawater onto the their deck in an attempt to put out the spreading, life-claiming flames.

“By R'hllor, they're not going to last long!” you exclaim, a giddy sensation entering your bones. The sails are ruined . . . although the ship keeps moving on steadily. You see the oars sticking out from the belly of the ship, paddling the waters still.

You stare forwards at the helmsman who even from this distance you can tell isn't turning the wheel of his ship.

They aren't stopping.

. . .

OH GOD THEY AREN'T FUCKING STOPPING!

“Move away from the back of the ship!” you hear someone shout and the men beside you flee from their positions.

You are dumbfounded.

The boat rocks violently as you hear the crunch of breaking wood. The ship shudders violently as you lose your balance and are sent careening to the deck.

Screams and shouts abound around you as you attempt to get your feet back under you. Shit, where's your spear. A quick, frantic search for it reveals the priceless weapon rolling away from you towards the railing of the ship.

You part crawl/part stumble after it and jump atop the Valyrian weapon to prevent it from getting away from you permanently, lost to the dark depths of the sea.

Unfortunately, you land on it at a bad angle and end up cutting your hand on the spearhead when you grasp it desperately. Drawing back the wounded appendage with a wince, blood dripping from a deep cut in your palm and seeping into the wood.

You pick your spear up and sling it into the holster you have for it on your back. Seems the ship hasn't been blown sky high, so that's good news. Looking in the direction of the impact however and you see a trail of smoke rising from below at the stern of the ship.

Shit. You look out over the waters. The two trade galleys are approaching again, this time much more aggressively.

You stumble your way over to the bow of the ship and start giving out orders to Captain Semar upon your retreat.

“I want men down in the bowels putting out those fires and bringing the wildfire up here. All of it! We're covering our retreat!”

“Yes, Admiral!” Captain Semar responds. Stalking back to the aft of the ship, you look over the railing of the Argo to see the smaller cog still lodged in your rear, the fire slowly spreading to your ship that men are desperately attempting to put out with buckets of water.

Despite the trading galleys being faster than your own vessel – you plan to give them a distraction that will prevent them from pursuing.

Loading the last of your wildfire into your spitfire, you launch nine individual jars directly at the two trading galleys – far too close to each other considering the weapon and tactics you're preparing to employ.

Nine direct hits impact the hulls and decks of the pursuing trading galleys. You watch men, so far away they look like ants, diving overboard as green fire slowly claims both pirate watercraft. The war dromond in this Othello's service moves forward, but does not pursue you. And you watch as dozens of sailors flock to the still seaworthy vessel. How many lives were claimed by the green hell you rained upon them you can not determine from this great distance.

But you are sure you've sunk three ships of this Earthling's fleet.

You look down below and see sailors still struggling with removing the lodged cog in Argo's rear. Although some men are reluctant to do so. Voicing concerns that, sure the dead weight slows down the ship but without it perhaps water from the seas will pour in and perhaps sink your ship.

Bronn finds where you stand beside the siege weaponry and reports that twelve of your crew died in the crash and ensuing fire. The fires have – for the most part – been put out. And you've taken one prisoner – the rest of the pirate cog's crew died in the crash.

“Tell me about Othello!” you demand of your bound prisoner, inside your personal cabin on the Argo. Chiggen stands menacingly to your side while Bronn remains behind the man, hands upon his shoulders to freak him out even more.

“He's a pirate!” the man shouts, fear plain in his voice. “He has four swan ships from the Summer Isles. His crew is composed of primarily Summer Islanders plus all the pirates and sailors he's been recruiting or press ganging. I don't know much more than that.”

“Why were you sent to our ship?” you needle.

“We were supposed to offer any man who wished not to die or be sold into slavery a chance to board our ship and join the crew. Although . . .”

“Although what?” Bronn asks with a neutral tone, squeezing the captive's shoulders in a way that disturbs the man.

“Although Othello had made a similar deal when he attacked us. All those who turned coat were enslaved to a man. When Othello finally made his assault the rest of us who survived the battle were spared and press-ganged. He informed us that disloyal curs who switch sides when faced with death deserved no quarter. After that, all we had to do was operate that cog while we followed his fleet as he went about his business. Offering that same deal to you was the first real . . . order he gave us.”

Chiggen shrugs and recoils slightly. “Why didn't you wave a white flag or something?” he inquires.

The man shakes his head vigorously. “Othello was very adamant we flew his flag at all times. And the Captain of the cog was one of his men – not one of us.”

“Us?” you clarify.

“Yeah we, uh, well I guess I'm the sole survivor now . . . uh this was the ship we were all on when Othello found us. He doesn't like to sink ships. Just leaves them floating dead in the water if he doesn't have the crew or he doesn't consider them worthy to be part of his fleet.”

“What a loon,” Bronn comments with a cluck of his tongue.

The slow puttering journey of the Argo, limping back to a safe port like a wounded lion returning to its den, is one that you refuse to appear like a somber, craven, or defeated action.

No, now is the time to celebrate. Informing Captain Semar to break out the rum, wine, mead, ale or whatever other alcoholic beverages that have been stored deep in the holds for the crew to imbibe, you plan your crew a grand multi-day party.

The crew is continually reminded via oratory embellishments of how noble and brave your mere cargo ship had been in the face of overwhelming odds. Merchants and adventurers triumphing against an infamous pirate intent on enslaving, slaying or press ganging you all. And prevail you did due to R'hllor's guidance. Four of his ships set aflame, two sunk into the depths of the dark ocean as you promised the man at the onset of the naval skirmish and one enemy ship captured – a prize. With only the loss of twelve men on your side, who could deny this great victory in the favor of the Red God. The Argo's injury is merely a scar any flesh and blood warrior would wear proudly as a permanent mark of a well-fought victory.

The crew seems to agree, drunkenly cheering and cavorting – dancing, singing and playing music. Most give thanks unto the Lord of Light for shining mercy down upon he majority of them.

During the cool, cloying, darkness that comes with first night of your trip to Myr, all your dead are tied to a raft of wooden planks scavenged from the damaged cog and set off to float along the waters of the Narrow Sea. A Summer Islander with a goldenheart bow nocks an arrow dipped in the very last remnants of wildfire scraped from the holds. Alight with green fire, the black man looses his shaft with pinpoint accuracy. The raft, drenched in boiling oil beforehand, immediately bursts into flame as the wildfire-laden arrow strikes the raft.

A veritable bonfire upon the sea, roiling and raging with intertwined red and green tongues of flame, drifts away from your funereal congregation.

Only once the Christmas-colored procession of the dead has become but a mere mote of light on the horizon do you feel it fit to speak.

And together with half a hundred voices you utter the prayer together.

THE NIGHT IS DARK AND FULL OF TERRORS!”

The walls of Myr come into view after three days sailing through the Sea of Myrth, from which the Free City derives its name. Myr is known for the many temples and shrines that line its waterfronts and streets.

As you coast into the Harbor, many Myrish bystanders – olive-skinned and dark-haired – mutter and gossip at the sight of a cog lodged dangerously in your rear. The herd of your sailors stream off onto the docks, grabbing their pay for the week's voyage from the ship's paymaster that Captain Semar hired on to deal with the wages.

After they'e all dispersed among the town to spend their hard-earned money, you leave yourself and inhale the scent of peppers and garlic that waft from the city's interior.

. . .

The shipwright you speak with, who you notice is a slave judging by the branded image of a ship upon his forehead, talks with you casually enough in the common tongue about repairing and mooring your ship.

The Argo can be fixed at the price of 80 gold dragons, although it will take a week's worth of effort to repair. It will also cost you seven gold to use Myr's ports for that length of time as well.

The cog, much more heavily damaged by fire, will cost 100 gold dragons to fix. The shipwright informs you his master would also be willing to buy the cog for 30 gold dragons, however. To take your mind off the matter.

You sell off the cog for an extra thirty gold to pad your pockets and the enslaved shipwright promises it will be removed from the stern of the Argo free of charge.

Afterwards, you snake your way through the streets of Myr looking for a high class brothel.

Sure enough, in the richer district of the Free City you find yourself an establishment with an entrance flanked by two barely-clothed female slaves – hearts tattooed on their cheeks – gesturing and advertising the 'wares' on sale inside.

You step in past them, pushing aside a veritable curtain of beads that jangle at your disturbance.

The smell of pumpkin and vanilla wafts into your nostrils. An assortment of girls strut across the hardwood floor of the common room. Some serve wine, some chat with half-naked patrons and still others whistle and wink coquettishly in seductive attempts to procure customers.

A small, spindly old woman approaches you from somewhere unseen. You only notice her once she's a few feet from you, her head reaching roughly chest level.

“Choose your girl, choose your price,” she speaks in heavily accented, broken Westerosi.

“I'll take a girl from Yi Ti, if you have one.” you inform the owner.

The old lady cackles slightly as she snaps a finger. You have no idea how that would single out any prostitute in particular but somehow the calling gesticulation works.

Out from some booth in the back steps a beautiful, vaguely asian woman dressed in fine red silk with her hair sculpted into two neat buns on either side of her head. Her hair is inky black and she smiles ever so sweetly upon seeing you.

“300 Myrish ships,” the old woman speaks, holding out her feeble, wrinkled hand. You do a quick calculation in your head. That would be . . . roughly five gold dragons. You drop the foreign coin in the madame's hands and she scoffs, annoyed at having to exchange the money herself. Still, she waves your purchased girl forward, who gently takes your hand and escorts you up the stairs to the second floor. The foreign beauty smells of lilies and jasmine. And her hand feels as soft as baby's skin.

. . .

After your lovemaking, which leaves you satisfied and smiling wide – Yao Qi, as you have learned, gently snuggling into your side – you decide to speak with your pleasure slave in what you assume will be a fruitless conversation.

“I am searching for . . . individuals. Individuals across the world,” you reach your hand up to the ceiling, gesturing to a vast map of Planetos only visible in your mind, etched in invisible ink upon the pink paint above you. “All I know about them and all that would make them stand out would be strange behavior.”

“Act . . . strangely?” she questions in much more broken Westerosi, staring up past your hand with wonder. Perhaps she can see a similar image in her mind's eye or perhaps she is just indulging your whims of fancy as she is paid to do for all her customers.

“Yes,” you answer.

“Fool!” she declares, suddenly looking towards you.

You laugh humbly, meeting her gaze. “You think I'm a fool?” you inquire good-naturedly.

“No! Fool. Fool.” She repeats the words urgently while shaking you by the shoulder. “Meh . . . Meh . . . Meh . . .”

Furrowing your brow you watch her struggle with whatever she is trying to say. “Mehhhhme.”

. . . . No. “Are you trying to say the word 'meme'?” you ask, incredulously.

She shakes her heads as you speak it and snaps her fingers. “Mehme! Mehme . . . vuhhhltoooor. Mehme vuhltoor!” She nods her head decisively with the declaration.

“Meme vulture?!”

“Mehme vulhtoor.”

Oh god.
