You are Jason Fisher, 4th grader and best friend of a three-headed dog monster named Oscar. You and your father have recently moved from your small hometown in Virgina to Greensville, a modest sized city in northern Ohio. You have been enrolled in Lakeside Elementary School, and are still trying to adjust to the change.

Yesterday, you chose to hang out with your new friend Tyler during school. You found out that his parents are usually busy, and so it’s his older sister that usually takes care of him. You got his sister’s phone number and later gave it to your dad, who arranged for the two of you to hang out again tomorrow on the weekend. That night, you were awoken by your monstrous friend Oscar, who could smell another monster in the neighborhood. This one wasn’t the kind like Oscar, however. It was Unbound, a monster with no kid that survived by devouring humans. You had to let it go, as the fighting started to wake up the neighborhood, but you did manage to scare it away, back into the sewers where it came from. With that settled, you returned home and snuck back in through the window, getting some sleep before tomorrow.

“...but the girl’s whereabouts are still unknown. Police do not yet know if it is linked to the recent string of murders, but the public is advised to lock their doors and stay in well-lit areas.”

Your father turns off the radio, tsking his tongue. “Honestly, can’t turn the radio on now without another headline. Hope that girl’s alright though. Jason, you remember what I said about taking candy from strangers?”

“To not do it.” You answer almost mechanically.

“That’s my boy!” Your dad says, ruffling your hair. Honestly, the recent news didn’t really scare you at all. If anything, whoever’s responsible for the recent news should be afraid of you, since you have a supernatural guard dog watching you all the time.

The car comes to a stop in front of Tyler’s house, where you’ll be hanging out for today. Your dad pulls out the keys and climbs out of the car with you, holding your hand up to the front door. He rings the doorbell, and a moment later an older girl comes and opens the door.

“Oh, hello! You must be Mr.Fisher.”

Your father nods his head. “And you must be Tyler’s sister, yes?”

“Yep yep! Then this little guy must be Tyler’s new friend.” She crouches down to about your height. “Good to meet you Jason, Tyler’s told me a lot about you!”

The way she talks, it reminds you a lot of that fake cheery tone your teachers put on at the start of the day. Except this sounds more genuine, like she’s actually in good spirits.

"Hello..." You mumble quietly. "Is Tyler around?" Gosh, you almost forgot how awkward it was meeting a new friend's family. Your old home was so small everyone basically knew everyone's family already, so you can't help but feel a little weird.

"Oh, he's in the living room right now, playing games. You can go in and say hi."

"Thank you ma'am."

The older girl laughs. "Just call me Chloe, ma'am makes me sound old."

Right, you forgot people didn't do that a lot here for some reason. Back in Virginia your dad used to remind you every time you forgot 'sir' or 'ma'am', so you still had trouble remembering sometimes. With her permission, you head on inside, looking for Tyler.

"He's very polite, isn't he?"

"Well, I taught him to be respectful."

------
You find Tyler down the hall, sitting on a white couch in a living room that's probably twice the size of your own. His family makes good money, it seems. He looks away from the TV screen when you enter, pausing the game.

"Oh, hey Jason." He greets you, moving aside to make room on the couch.

"Hey, what'cha playing?" You ask, climbing onto the couch next to him.

"This." He says, showing you the case. Oh, you remember this. It's a fighting game based on that one cartoon that comes on sometimes on Saturdays. The title on the game box shows the same characters, but the name on the box is long and hard to pronounce. Somethingsomething 2, is that even English? Maybe it's spanish or something.

"Oh, cool. Mind if I play after this fight?"

"Sure." He says, unpausing the game.

A moment later, his sister Chloe comes in from the front hallway. "Oh, Jason, have you eaten anything yet? I'm cooking dinner if you want to join us."

"Oh, thank you."

While your head's turned to speak with her, Tyler apparently finishes his fight and hands the controller over to you. "Alright, here you go. This button's to punch, this once to kick, and this one shoots stuff." He explains.

could we get a refresher on dice sparks?

hand of fucking god
>>
>>535638
Well, you roll the appropriate amount of dice, and the goal is to get as many matches as you can. The more matches, the better the result. However, the higher the die, the faster the result. So, 2x7 would do a better job, but 1x10 would finish faster. Usually speed doesn't matter, but in some cases (such as a race) it does.

On really important rolls, you can also choose to add your Relationship Dice to a roll, provided there's a way to explain why it would be relevant (like adding your dad's dice to a roll to do good on a test so he's not disappointed). You can also add these dice to your monsters rolls, but whenever you fail a roll using Relationship Dice, you reduce your Relationship Dice with that person by one, and if you empty out your Relationship Dice pool that way, something bad is liable to happen between you and that person.
>>
>>535653
How would a 4x1 and 1x10 in the same roll work?
>>
>>535614
You take the controller, asking for a quick reminder on how to do stuff you saw Tyler do. At first you do alright, you make mistakes but you're winning. Then the enemy starts to get faster, and you end up losing.

"Did I get a boss?" You ask, a little confused at the sudden change in difficulty.

"Maybe? I haven't played this game before so he might be. Want me to try?"

"No, no, I can do this."

You restart the match, but this time it feels like the boss is hard to beat right from the start. You don't even get as close this time, you lose way sooner than you did last time."

"Tyler, mind helping me set the table?" Chloe calls from the kitchen.

"Be right there!" He calls back. "Try again while I'm gone, maybe you just got unlucky?"

You try again, this time by yourself, as Tyler heads off to the kitchen. You concentrate, doing your best to-

"Jason."

Doing your best to-

"Jaaason."

Doing your be-

"Jason!"

"What, what is it?! You just made me lose cause I wasn't paying attention!" You whisper shout, scolding your hidden three-headed friend.

Oscar shifts around in your pocket, shrunken down and hidden there. "I can smell that kid's monster nearby. I don't like being here Jason."

"So what?" You grumble, starting the match again. "Tyler's my friend, his monster isn't gonna do anything while we're-"

The game freezes. You're about to let out a frustrated groan when the TV screen suddenly goes blank, a blinking line appearing on the screen as though someone were typing.

"...Wha?"

The cursor begins to type out a message in big, green text.

>GET OUT

"Jason? Dinner's ready." Tyler calls out, walking into the living room.

The TV returns to normal, leaving you back at the 'You Lose!' screen. It looks like Tyler came in just too late to see what happened.

>Don't bring it up, you're not sure what just happened.

Well, before I said that it depends on whether speed or quality is more important in context, but thinking on it now I might just cut the speed vs quality thing and make more matches better in all cases.

"Did you see that?"

"See...what?"

"The screen, it like, froze up and then it said to get out and-"

You yelp, as the controller suddenly shocks you. You drop it from your hands, letting it fall onto the carpet floor.

"Now it just shocked me!" You grumble, shaking your hands. Your palms are left an angry red by the sudden shock, not strong enough to be dangerous, but strong enough to really hurt.

"...Uh...Maybe-"

"Tyler? Jason? Dinner's getting cold." Chloe calls from the kitchen.

"Er, maybe the controller's broken. Come on, let's go eat." Tyler says, turning to leave almost too quickly. Is it just you, or does it seem like he's trying to hide something?

-------
You sit down to eat at the dinner table, where a big pot of spaghetti is waiting. Chloe fetches three glasses from the cupboards, handing one to you and Tyler.

"Do you drink fruit punch Jason?" Chloe asks. You nod, and she pulls out a big container of fruit punch from the fridge, setting it on the table. "If you want ice, the freezer door has a dispenser."

You nod, and get up to get some ice first. You press the cup against the switch and...nothing.

"Ma-er, Chloe, it's not letting any ice out."

"Really? That's weird, I just put more ice in."

You try pressing it against the switch again, nothing. You try a third time, and suddenly ice starts to dump out into your cup, enough to overflow it and get all over the floor. You jump back in surprise, and when you look up at the little clock on the freezer door, you see the numbers on the clock have been replaced with little green letters.

>LEAVE

"Oh no, is it broken?" Chloe says, getting up to help clean the mess you just made. You look over to Tyler, and he quickly looks away, a rather guilty look on his face. Okay, now you're certain something's going on.

"I'll get this cleaned up real quick, go ahead and start eating." Chloe says, the only one in the room unaware of your virtual harasser.

>Make up an excuse to leave the table. Confront the monster causing this.
>Take a seat. You'll eat dinner first before you do anything.

"Thank you." You tell Chloe, before returning to the table. She's a good distance away, enough that you can probably whisper without her hearing, especially since you're sitting right next to Tyler.

"Are you alright?" Tyler asks.

"Yeah, I'm fine." You answer. "But, could you tell your friend to calm down already?" You whisper.

"...F-friend?" Tyler says, eyes a little wide.

"Yeah, the one that shocked me."

"You know?!"

Oh, that's right, not every monster is as good at sensing other monsters as Oscar. Most, from what you're told, only get a vague sense that one or more is present, but Oscar is unique in that his nose(s) can tell where they are and who their kid is. Tyler might not have actually known you had a monster all this time.

"Yeah, I know. So can you please tell him to calm down? That shock earlier really hurt."

Tyler looks like he wants to say and ask more, but Chloe finishes cleaning the spilled ice and sits back at the table.

"We'll talk later." You tell him, before his sister gets too close.

---------------
The three of you talk a bit over dinner, though it would be more accurate to say you and Chloe talk and Tyler occasionally responds when he's addressed. You find out that Chloe has just started college, and is aiming to become a doctor. Their mom is a businesswoman who often works overseas, and their dad is a military officer working at the nearby air force base. You tell them your dad works with computers, primarily working from home. You also find out that apparently, Tyler told Chloe about the food fight on your first day of school, though she promises not to tell your dad. She actually thanks you for standing up for her little brother, though she tells you not to get into trouble again if you can avoid it.

Chloe's alright. If you had a sister, you think you'd want her to be like her.

As soon as dinner's over, however, Tyler makes an excuse to bring you upstairs to his room, telling his sister you're going to play video games there. She stays downstairs to take care of dishes, and the two of you head upstairs. Tyler's room is a little messy, but not so much that you can move around. You see his DS lying open on his pillow, looks like he was playing it not too long before you showed up.

"You knew about Delta?" Tyler asks the moment his door is closed.

"Wait, is that what you call him?"

"That's what he wanted to be called. But how do you know? Do you...?"

"Yup. His names Oscar."

"You know, I really would have preferred you didn't tell him I'm here." Your friend grumbles in your pocket.

"...Is that?"

On cue, Oscar leaps out of your pocket, growing to his full size in seconds. The three-headed dog-like monster stands above either of you, with his shoulders resting just higher than your head. Tyler backs up in surprise, and in response his own monster appears.

The first thing you notice is the screen on his DS lighting up, flickering with digitized blue patterns. Then the screen projects some sort of light into the air like a scanner, which materializes a new figure, starting at the head and moving down to it's feet. The figure looks mechanical in nature, with six lights on the sides of it's head and a big seventh one in the center of it's face. It's humanoid in build, with two arms and two legs. You would sooner call it a robot than a monster, but you know enough about monsters that they can look like pretty much anything.

Oscar growls when the new monster shows itself, and Delta's lights turn red as it looks down at Oscar, little bit of metal on it's face furrowing like eyebrows. You have to order Oscar to calm down, as does Tyler for his own monster.

"You've had a monster this whole time too? Why didn't you tell me?" Tyler asks.

"I kinda assumed you already knew."

>Ask him about Delta. What can he do?

"...Actually, you are aware there's other people with monsters in our class too, right?"

Tyler nods his head. "Sort of. Delta said he could sense a few in our class, but he couldn't tell who."

"Stupid idiot doesn't even have a nose to smell them out with." Oscar sneers. At this, Delta steps forward like he's going to punch him, but Tyler puts his hand out to stop him.

"I'm sorry about this, I swear he's not usually like this." Tyler apologizes. "I don't know what's gotten into him."

"No, it's fine. He probably just didn't want me around because he could tell Oscar was with me."

The light on Delta's head changes green, as though to confirm your theory.

"Well, I'm sorry he's been rude to you then." Tyler apologizes again. "Still, I never would have guessed you had one too. I've never actually met another person with a monster before."

"Me neither. Actually, how long have you and Delta been together?"

Tyler thinks for a moment. "I...actually can't remember any time when he wasn't around."

You perk up. "Same here. Maybe it's like that for everyone with monsters?"

"Maybe. I don't know anything about other kids with monsters, the only monsters besides Delta that I've seen before have been those wild ones."

"Unbound." Oscar clarifies. "There are more here?"

"Well, I've run into a few before, usually Delta takes care of them...wait, 'another'?"

"Oh, yeah, Oscar and I actually saw one in our neighborhood just last night. It came from the sewers, looked like it was made out of-"

"Slime." Oscar finishes.

"Yeah, looked like it was made of slime, but-"

"No, I mean I SMELL slime." Oscar says, his three heads pointing up into the air.

"...Wait, he's back?"

"Seems so. Open the window, we've got unfinished business with him."

"Oscar, I'm not letting you go off on your own again. You remember the last time."

"I didn't say alone. I'm not leaving you alone with the junkhead anyways." He says, turning one of this heads towards Delta.

Well, you can't just leave a stray monster alone, it might eat someone if you do. Still, he managed to slip away last time, maybe bringing help wouldn't be a bad idea?

"Alright then. Tyler, I'm gonna go help Oscar take care of this. Want to come along?"

"No way." Oscar intervenes. "This guy got away from us last time, I'm not sharing."

Delta furrows his eyebrows(?) and lets out a series of digital beeps.

"No, I don't care that it's close to your house, I saw it first!" Oscar barks back. Wait, they can understand each other?

"[Series of angry beeps]"

"Yes that matters! I don't know how long it's been since you had a chance to eat one, but I haven't eaten one in YEARS."

"[Series of beeps punctuated by mechanical whirs]"

"...Uh...I don't know how long Chloe will have to do dishes, but if we're back soon I don't mind going." Tyler says.

"Then it's settled. Oscar, Tyler and Delta are coming with us." You tell him, putting your foot down.

"....Fine, but I've got dibs."

The matter settled, you open the window and climb on Oscar's back. Delta picks up Tyler, and then both leap through the window and begin running in the same direction, Oscar taking point.
>>

-----------
Oscar and Delta both cut through the park to get to their destination, making it less likely that anyone will see them. At the edge of the park, however, they both have to hide again or else someone might see them, meaning you and Tyler have to cover the rest of the distance on foot.

"Cross the street here. It's not far now, I can smell it." Oscar says from your pocket.

You and Tyler oblige, crossing the street and following Oscar's directions. Soon, you come to a stop outside an alleyway, not far from the Burger King you and your dad ate at yesterday. Before you can head inside, however, Oscar speaks up.

"Wait!" He hisses from your pocket. "I smell something else down there."

"What is it?"

"Weird."

"That doesn't tell me anything Oscar."

"No, Weird. Like that girl in your class."

Oh, that's right. You remember Oscar referred to that one girl as a Weird, someone with a weaker monster living inside them.

"Is it actually her?"

"Not sure, the slimy one's smell is too thick for me to tell. If it's not her though then it's probably another Weird."

"...Wait, is Ellie in there?" Tyler asks, starting to look a little nervous.

"Is that her name? The girl with the long black hair in our class?"

"Yeah, her. If she's there then I don't wanna go in there."

"Huh? Why?"

"Delta says she's dangerous. And I hear she put another kid in the hospital last year when he picked on her."

"Wait, seriously?"

"That's what people think. No one saw it, but when the teachers came they found Ellie standing over the kid while his arm was broken. The teachers say he just tripped, but everyone else thinks she did it. It's why Charlotte and her friends are afraid of her."

>Tell him he'll be fine, head in together.

"You'll be fine, let's just take care of the slime monster and get back before your sister knows we're gone."

Tyler hesitates for a moment, but when you start to head in he follows suit. He looks pretty nervous, but you suppose having Oscar and Delta with you is enough to assure him he'll be fine.

You both make your way cautiously down the back alley. By now, no one would be able to see you from the street, and with the cars running by they probably won't hear you either unless you're really loud. Soon, however, you can hear the sound of slime slipping on cement, and so you and Tyler peek over the corner to see what's happening.

In the next alley, you can see an open manhole, and the slime monster from last night standing a few feet away from it. It looks smaller this time, maybe because of the injuries Oscar gave it? The slime monster isn't alone though, standing next to a trash can is a girl with long black hair and shaggy clothing. Ellie, the weird girl from your class. She stand in place, looking at the slime monster through the hair that covers her eyes. The slime monster bares it's teeth, opening it's maw to roar at the girl in front of it.

And then it happens. Ellie's hair seems to stretch out and pierce the slime monster's gelatinous body, grabbing some strange red sphere in the center of it's chest. Her hair then rips the sphere out of the slime monster's body, crushing it in it's grasp. The slime monster falters, and then it's form starts to lose cohesion. Soon it sinks into a gross green puddle, it's teeth nowhere to be found.

"Whoa..." Tyler whispers.

"Oh come on! She got it first!" Oscar complains, soft enough that he can't be heard.

Her hair starts to wring itself out, getting the green goop off of itself. The red heart-slime, however, it almost seems to drink up, like straws. The monster dealt with, Ellie turns back to the trash can, and starts to dig through it.

"Uh...Jason? Maybe we should lea-" Tyler takes a step back from the corner, and accidentally kicks an aluminum can that was left on the ground.

Ellie suddenly looks up from the trash can, and turns her head around. There she sees the both of you, leaning your heads past the corner. Her face twists with surprise, and suddenly her hair starts to fly towards you, stretching several feet away from her. You both back up just in time, as the hair flies past you both and smashes into the wall, cracking the masonry on impact.

You back up a bit, as Ellie starts to turn the corner.

"Look, hold on now, we were just-"

"You saw." She says, hair primed to strike again.

"T-the hair? Look, no, it's fine, we-"

"You don't tell anyone." She commands, stepping closer.

At this point, Oscar and Delta both come out of hiding, standing between her and the two of you. Oscar growls, and Delta's lights turn red, both ready to fight if it comes to that.

"S-sure, we won't!" Tyler chips in, quite visibly intimidated. "We won't tell anyone about your hair, promise! See, we even have monsters! We wouldn't-"

"Not that." She says, coming to a stop in front of your monsters.

"...N-no? What then?" Tyler asks.

"The trash can." She answers. As she says this, your eyes finally catch something that they didn't before; A half-eaten burger, partially wrapped and clutched tightly in her hand. You notice there's a little splotch of ketchup on her cheek as well.

"...Did you...pull that out of the garbage?" You ask.

Ellie slams her hair down onto the ground, vaulting herself over Oscar and Delta. The two of them look just as surprised as you, when she lands right in front of you and leans in uncomfortably close, almost eye-to-eye.

"No. One." She repeats, throwing all the malice she can muster into those two words.

"...Alright, sure."

"Promise." She demands.

"Okay, we promise, so just calm down alright?"

She backs up, turning her back to you and Tyler. She walks past Oscar and Delta, who at this point are just as confused as you, and takes a seat against the wall, where she starts eating her burger again.

"...Is everything alright?" You ask, stepping past Oscar and Delta. "Why are you eating food out of a garbage can?"

Ellie looks down and away from you, hesitating for a moment before she takes a bite out of her burger, not answering your question.

"...Hey, Tyler, was there any spaghetti left over from dinner?"

"I think so." Tyler says, no looking less scared and more concerned now.

"Go back and see if you can bring some out here, tell Chloe I'm in the bathroom or something."

Tyler looks hesitant to leave you alone with the girl that nearly smashed both of your faces in, but in the end he nods and starts to head back, Delta returning to his hiding spot.

"You sure about this?" Oscar whispers in your ear? You nod, and he shrinks back down before climbing back into your pocket.

"Mind if I sit here?" You ask. Ellie doesn't respond, so you go ahead and sit next to her anyways. Ellie continues to eat her burger, and you just kind of sit there for a while, awkwardly grasping for something to say.

"So...do your parents know you're out here?" You ask, finally settling on something to say.

"They're dead."

"...Oh." You reply, once again left grasping for something to say. Why did you stay behind? You're not good at this sort of stuff. But then, Tyler would have been too scared to stay behind, so you guess you didn't really have a choice. "Do live...I mean, is this where-"

"I'm not homeless." She finishes for you. "I ran away."

"Ran away? From who?"

"My foster home. It's loud, it's crowded, and the adults don't like me. I hated it, so I left."

"How long have you been gone?"

"A week." She admits.

"A week? Haven't they come looking for you?"

"...I don't know." She replies.

There's a long stretch of silence, where neither of you seem to know what to say. You're just kind of here, waiting for Tyler to get back. Thankfully, it does take too long for him to get back, with a paper plate full of spaghetti.

"I'm back." He announces. "I told Chloe you went to the bathroom, then I said I was still hungry so I managed to sneak out with this." He says, handing the plate to Ellie. "Uh...hold on, did I forget a fork? I can probably-"

His words are cut short as Ellie's hair takes the plate away from him and starts to carry the spaghetti to her, playing the role of a fork. She gets spaghetti sauce all over her hair, but that doesn't really seem to bother her at all.

"Or...you could do that." Tyler says to himself.

So, um, what's your friends name? I guess you know that we've got them too.

Do you need a place to stay for the night? Or at the least, an old blanket or two?

Alright, writing now. A thing to note though, today would be Saturday, so school would actually be the day after tomorrow. You can tell her you'll come to see her tomorrow though if you want.

That can work

While Ellie eats her food, you rise to your feet. "Well, we have to go now, but we can come back tomorrow if you want. If there's something you need, we can probably bring it with us then."

Tyler gives a silent questioning look of 'We?', but makes no verbal objection. Ellie stops eating her spaghetti for the moment, to think over your offer.

"...A blanket would be nice." She finally says.

"Alright, I think I have a spare at home. I'll ask my dad if we can come to the park tomorrow, meet us there?"

She doesn't respond, though you assume she'll be there. Leaving her to her non-garbage meal, you and Tyler start heading back to his house, before Chloe can notice you're gone.

Alright, gonna call it here for now. Might start again tomorrow (technically today) depending on how busy I am, if I do then I'll probably post in the same thread since I doubt this one will die by then. If and when I start posting again, I'll say so on twitter.

Thanks for playing folks, hope you all had fun.
