In ages past men lived simpler lives - they would hunt, farm, fight and always respect the might of the Old Gods. Shamans led the clans with their elemental magic - so it was for many generations, before history was ever written down. The great hero Rog united a dozen human clans into a tribe that would form the foundation of our future Kingdom. One day Rog mysteriously vanished - then came the Great Storm - when it passed, the shamans could no longer feel the presence of the Gods and had lost the source of their magic.
Our civilization would have to progress on its own and so for generations we worked the lands, expanded in numbers and territory. We adopted goblin miners, fought dragons and welcomed a demonic warband. Adventures were had, technology progressed as we explored more and more of the world, largely adopting the faith of the New Gods of the Pantheon.
In the last year and a half a terrible war ravaged the land. Dark elves, dragons, orcs, centaurs, ogres, norsemen and demons sought to bring about the end of the mighty Kingdom of Paitras. Roggar's King and his closest friends were seduced by a dark elf witch into pledging their aid for the Horde. As the Legions of Paitras fought to protect the Duchy of Kulargar from invasions, a civil war raged within Roggar between supporters of Paitras and supporters of the Horde. Battles, betrayals and struggles culminated in the Siege of Nayte, the center of secular science in Roggar and home to our demon community. Outnumbered and outmatched by the enemy, the defenders of Nayte set off a powerful magical explosion that wiped both the city and the attackers off the face of the Earth, leaving only a large crater.
In the east, the Horde crushed the power of the mighty Paitran Kingdom, which splintered off into multiple smaller states, while the various races of the Horde also took their own paths, some returning to their traditional homelands, others setting themselves up as rulers over the humans.
In the Nayte Crater we accidentally opened a portal to Hell, which we managed to destroy by flooding the crater.
After the Second Horde War the Norsemen were united into an Empire and we've been fighting them ever since. We've had both victories and losses, with the Ice Dragons being a mighty asset to the norsemen.
We've expanded eastwards into two former provinces of Paitras, but in the most recent years that Kingdom has been reborn under the ruler of Ezgielath, Verigal.
Most recently, the still-independant Duchy of the Free Mountains was attacked by a force of minotaurs, orcs and centaurs from the south - Paitras and Roggar helped the Freemen fend off the barbarians in 303.

Also, for SOME clarification, the whole mercenary thing is more or less what they do and less 'pay me faggots' as the group is tied together, like a family (huh, the HAWTHORNE FAMILY) Remember that most of them are gathered remnants of post Nayte nuking, and they're grateful over being gathered together. They may not be the richest or largest group in the kingdom, but they live quite happily from job to job.

We've worked in the area of developing practical technologies and bringing our outlying and underdevloped areas up to the current pace, which has led to us adapting an elven concept - the lighthouse. One such lighthouse has been built on Dragonstone, to guide ships into the growing metropolitan area that is our capital.

As for the Colosseum in Dragonstomb - just how much are we going to spend on it?

We've torn down most of the old arena and have had to clear away some homes around it to make enough room for this grand project.

Our idea is one that leaves room for flexibility and future upgrades - we will build a large Colloseum, with plenty of space for fighting, with room for many thousands of viewers and a number of VIP balconies, a huge underground area that can serve to store tools, house fighters and whatnot. There will be room for upgrades all-round. The first kind of decoration we will start adding is a series of statues depicting our Dragonkings. They will be placed at various locations - some will guard the entrances, some will overlook the viewers, some will stand among the fighters in the underground and the most glorious spots will be reserved in the central arena area itself.
The construction will take years.

One thing must be decided now though: The name

A.The Royal Colloseum
B.The Dragon's Den
C.The Gladitorium
D.The Bronze Palace
E.The Bloodbowl
F.The Gloriata

The ship is too fast, we don't manage to hit it. It crashes into one of the piers at high speed, breaking apart a smaller ship that was docked.
As a party of Guardsmen rush towards the harbor, a figure emerges from the wreckages.

A man strides forward, clad in strange armor from head to heels, wielding a sword with a faintly blue glow...the same as his eyes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VU7qTVkjMWU

"I have returned home and I bear news for Roggar. The time of Ice comes. Ice, Blood and Death will cover the lands and you can do nothing to stop what is coming, except to surrender yourselves."

Duke Ardolf Godric steps forward, recognizing the voice he hears...

"Adolfo? Is that you?"

Adolfo pats his cousin on the shoulder and says something that no one else can hear, after which Ardolf ywns, rubs his eyes, sits on the ground and then lies down, falling asleep in seconds.

The armored man steps towards the Royal party.

"King, gentlemen, I repeat what I've said. The Time of Ice comes and-"

Regardless of his intent, Adolfo was one man with a sword against dozens of men. Arrows and spears were shot and thrown his way and try as he may, he could not escape them all. As his fell down to his knees from the hits, he saw that his sleeping cousin was also fatally shot.

"So it ends, then...Father, avenge us..."

Two Godrics lay dead. Some of the Guards that had been knocked out earlier were also hit by arrows and died.

The snow falls heavily now as the bodies grow cold.

The king decides that due to the otherworldly nature of the objects acquired in this battle the weapons and armour should go to the one who contributed the most. Now the bodies as well as the clothing of the slain Godrics shall be sent to Godric Isle. Now there is another matter at hand Captain Whitevayne has willingly killed a member of the council although it could be argued to be collateral damage as such the king will get a fair combat to decide who gets the armour.

The sword will not be at stake.

The latest leader of the Naytemind madmen has fallen prey to the most well known death: that of old age. The name "Timor" rings out from the village of Riverhugger. The realm of Roggar finally knows the reclusive man who hid away from the world, toiling on a project that may yet still see the light of day, if his successor indeed follows in his footsteps. Such is life.

Nightfall comes. Out of respect (or perhaps fear), the lunatics and maniacs emerge from their houses, clad in sack cloth masks that bear resemblence to the visage he had worn. Together, they leave their village, shrieking and laughing, delighting in terror that is only partially false. Many cakes are stolen, travellers scared by masked men coming from the forest, eggs and mud and dung hurled at town walls. For but a brief few hours, the insane move in unity with a sense of purpose, before returning home to the disarray of their normal days.

In the morning, a new leader will step forward. But for now, all is merry for Riverhugger and the Nayteminds. Mayhaps the others of the realm will come to embrace the tradition, but at this moment, it is theirs.

Thus is the origin of Timor's Eve in Roggar.

After the ordeal at the docks regarding the norseman of Godric blood and the events that transpired during it it was seen fit for a public investigation of the Godric family to insure they have no connections with the Norse and to clear any suspicions. Afterwards the results will be made public for all.

Studying the norsemen, we've learned how to properly build the so-called clinker-built hulls that their longships have. We've used some of our newfound knowledge to improve upon our old designs as well. While transport ships in our Kingdom exist in all kinds, our war navy is still based on the trireme model of warships.

In military development we've standartised the use of steel in weaponmaking(though for armor iron is still preferred due to it being more easily available). We've worked on our siege weaponry, having adapted ballistae and catapults to naval warfare - larger warships can be outfitted with such powerful weapons now.

A public investigation into the affairs of the Godrics and any relations they may have with the norsemen has given the following results:

Years ago, when Reinhard the Dragonslayer led the Godrics, he journeyed to the North alone, leaving his son Adolfo to rule at home. Reinhard's dissapearance was passed off as him dying in an accident(an accident that did occur, the result of which was the loss of much of the Godrics' newly built-ships, but Reinhard was actually not present in that fleet).
After losing contact with Reinhard, records indicate that Godric ships have, on a few occassions, travelled to Aaberaag and back again. Adolfo was last seen going to the North on one of those, after which contact between the Norsemen and the Godrics had ceased - this was years before the incident where Adolfo returned. It is not known how much of this the Royal Diplomat Ardolf knew and we'll never know, as he was killed alongside his cousing Adolfo.

The Gladiatorium's about half-done, the more fancy contraptions and decorations aren't finished yet, but the groundwork and the regular viewing areas are there - it'll serve its purpose in the first fight it'll see, in the year 309.

The fighters are Duke Adolf of Godric and Commander Octavius Whitevayne(son of Duke Whitevayne).

The fight will be to death or surrender.

The stakes are the sword and armor brought by Adolfo Godric from the North, nothing more and nothing less, other than honor.

The fighters will not wear any protective armor, though they are free to wear whatever clothing they want. They will each fight with a regular army sword and nothing else - no magic of any kind allowed.

Spectators may encourage the fighters, place bets, enjoy tasty snacks and glorious, bloody combat!

We'll recruit more troops, what military reforms should we undertake?
>>
>>547672
I suggest we reform our cavalry. We should have Centaurs as archers and humans as heavy cavalry since we did get the stirrups tech from the High Elfs.
>>
>>547672
The War Council also puts forward the reform focused on cavalry which will involve recruiting centaurs for fast moving archers from the southern tribes and using them with our heavy cavalry to devastating effect on our enemies.
>>
>>547672
This has been brought up before but is there any chance of mounts for Gobbos such as big dogs or wolves?

Thank you
>>
>>547672
The Godric scouts have a important issue to put forth.
Ogres in the Southern lands have White Human slaves, the longer we sit idle the more Humans died, eaten and are born in Slavery.
Also we should make training programs so our troops and officers know the strength and weakness of each race. So they can better led the battle.

We've started working on our horsemen - humans soldiers will train to be shock cavalry, centaurs will be reliable mobile archers and we've even put funding into a program that some crazy goblins in Gobopolis have had for a while - to breed large dogs that can be ridden by goblins(or halflings) into battle!

Faction: Duchy of Gobopolis
Originally forming as a mining union of freed ogre slaves the Duchy of Gobopolis is a true rags to riches story. Built by goblins for goblins the duchy stands as a symbol of the Kingdoms of Roggars continued friendship towards all Gobbo-kind. After the Second Horde War and the fall of Patrias the Gobbos have dedicated themselves to the cultivation of the land and furthering of the faith.

Assets: Gobopolis, Lueceric, Duchy of Gobopolis, Fertile Farming Communities, Deep Gold Mine, Goblin Skirmishers, Three Sets of Fire Dragon Armor and Weapons, Temple of Mor, Knights of Mor

Current Leader:
Duke Duke Swift-Hands
56 Years old
Faith/Agriculture

Gobopolis has changed many times over the years, that which was started on the wreckage of a Ogre slave camp has evolved into a sprawling metropolis and capital of the Duchy of Gobopolis. A bastion against forces of chaos and destruction the Swift-Hands family has lead the duchy with honour and courage standing against those who would betray the faith and the kingdom. After the Second Horde War and the Rebellion of the Oathsworn which had heavy losses with their allies the demons sacrificing themselves to stall the horde and the courageous Knight of Mor upholding the faith to the last man. In recent the Duchy has withdrawn from courtly life and dedicated themselves to expansion of the Duchy and the construction of a great Temple of Mor to honour all lost in the war.

The Temple of Mor is Gobopolis dominates the sky line of the sprawling city. Financed and designed by Duke Duke Swift-Hands it was envisioned as a tribute to the demons of Nayte, the Knights of Mor and every other soul who fell in the Second Horde War. As one approaches the temple they are greeted by two massive gold statues which guard the door, on the right is a proud Knight of Mor standing tall Sword in hand and on the left a great demon of Nayte stands staff in one hand and book in the other. As you enter you open on a hall of which a great statue of Mor dominates the room judging all who enter.

The Goblins Priests of Mor live in ernest attempt to emulate the Knight of Mor and spread the faith and honor that they once carried themselves with. With this great temple Gobopolis truly stands as a bastion of the faith.

What should we focus on?

A.Stockpile food for a war in the nearby future(this will be a quick action, within 1-2 years we'll amass a surplus that can last for a campaign)
B.Improve our agricultural system - the manoral method of farming has been experimented with in parts of our Kingdom and produces more results. We can spread this throughout Roggar and improve our yields and completely redefine rural life(this will take more time to accomplish)
C.Seek to boost our production through magic from the Gods(this will boost production and increase our stockpiles faster than either A or B)
D.Improve hunting and fishing instead

Faction: Duchy of Kulagar
Kulagar was orginally a Kingdom in the early ages, they were neighbooring Roggar and friendly relations led to few mariages amongst clans and later nobles ; after the vassalisation by Paitrais it became a Duchy and years after the fall of Paitras it was Liberated by Roggar after the Roggarian Civil War.

Assets: Everything within Kulagar

Current Leader:
Desfak Yalmfried
28 Years old
Focused on Naval military and Food industry.

>House Yalmfrid
The Kulargi tribe started around the same time as the Tribe of rog
Cadet Branch of The Ruling House of Kulargi, they survived the Purge of The Northmen due to not being Heir to the throne themselves but are still liked amonst the population.
By Bloodright they technically inherited most of the kingdom apart fromt the lands to east who should belong to paitras due to cumbersome mariages imposed to The kulargi to ensure peace.
House Yalmfrid is well know to come from Kulargas JelFried "The lustful" King of Kulagar before Kulagar was vassalized by Paitras.
Before Roggar accepted the pantheon House Runivrid accepted the Pantheon and Kulargi became a Monarchy thus discrediting house Jelfried and Yalmfrid supremacy making House Runivrid the royal house until their demise due to the Northmen purging them.
Nowadays House Yalmfrid live in their main County since the foundation of the house Podermos to hide and rule from there far from the Norse's reach to survive the massacre of House Jelfried, they do little apart provide tributary when needed and trying to admnistrate what is left of the Kulargi Duchy instored by Paitras.
Few Houses can pretend to a better claim than them for the Throne of Kulargi at the moment and fewer are still alive whilst being able to do so.
For now their position on Roggar is thankful, thanks to the diversified position Roggar has toward Kulagi the Yalmfrid were able to survive by Hiding in the fortress of Trusted defence during the war and are thankful for it.
Their Emblem is a Ship with shields on it's side one the sea.
The color scheme is different for house Jelfried and Yalmfrid.
A blue sea and Red shield for with brown boat whilst Yalmfrid emblem has a Red sea with brown shields and a Blue boat.

I guess i can get behind semi-frequent stat posting becoming a thing for people to understand factions positions.

Hello people of Rogger, Me and my merry men come from the distant land of Servia. We are the Kevav removers and we want to bring the glory of Bathal to your kingdom
>>
We've begun implementing the manoral farming system throughout our Kingdom - land owners(aristocrats) center their fields around a manor, which can then become the foundation for a village. They employ farmers to work their lands.

Now, here's something we've never discussed really - labour and contracts in Roggar.
What should our stance be:

A.Outlaw slavery and make all workers sign contracts willingly with their employers
B.Outlaw slavery, but allow indentured servitude/serfdom alongside free labor
C.Allow every kind of laborer - free men, serfs and slaves
D.There's plenty of people doing nothing of value - force the unemployed into serfdom while we're at it!(Also allow slavery and free contracts)

Faction: Dragonfist Clan
The Dragonfist clan (originally the Mutt Clan) Used to be a band of goblins and humans raised on the the streets that turned into farmers thanks to Mutt Dragonfist. The Mutt an urchin turned soldier managed to kill a dragon with one punch allowing his clan and his dynasty to be respected among the Roggarians. The Dragonfist Family isn't the richest nor the most powerful but they still are respected after all this years due the continuous effort of many members of the Dragonfist family. Muttville, the Fortress island is still an essential river port of Roggar and all the temples that exist around the Feudal lands of the Dragonfists make their land a place that all adherents to the pantheon need to visit.

My predecessor's actions are not my own. I apologise for what occured, and hope it did not affect your people too much. Although I do not mind a fraction of my people living with you, I would appreciate observation reports on them from your finest scholar.

On the matter of Barnaby: I am indeed aware he has passed. His corpse, or what remains of it, will suffice; it seems right to bring the man back home. My sympathies regarding your house arrest.

In the last few years the climate has been getting colder and colder, which has offset much of our agricultural advancements. In the uncertain political situation, The Duchy of the Free Mountains has joined the Kingdom of Paitras, which now eyes the Free City of Ravlegith.
Innar III now sits at the Norse Throne and he has resumed raids across the Godsjaw Sea, attacking Paitrans, Roggarians and even halflings.
Centaurs from the southern steppes have raided our less-defended southern territories, burning down Izkoz and a few nameless vilages.
The new colony that was recently set up on the western shore has also come under attack by ogres, though the walls have not yet been breached.
Dragonking Leonson Dragonfist ruled peacefully for 30 years and has now passed away shortly after New Year's Eve of 315.
Troubled times are upon us and a new Dragonking must be chosen at the Contest.

Paitras is well aware of the danger, they've noticed the changing climate and they've consulted with the high elves who sence magical disturbances in the North. They've also had skirmishes with beastmen from the south. Word is that a Barbarian King has united centaurs, orcs, ogres and minotaurs in the lands south of Paitras under his banner...

Now, I - Diplomacy & War

What should we do? The possibilities are endless.
>>
>>547947
We should send immediately some troop to our colony and break the siege.
I propose to prepare an army and march south, possibly with paitras help.

>>547947
Tell Paitras to BUILD WALL

And the army of these too
>>
>>547947
The norsemen will arrive in boats; we must ensure we have buckets of hot pitch ready for the assault. Also, I have floated about an idea that uses mirrors to burn their sails; mayhaps we test it.

As for the barbarian king, we must discuss military strategy with Paitras. Check for any textbooks detailing the anatomy of creatures that are part of the army too; there could be a weakpoint we are missing.
>>
>>547951
>>547947
This sound like a good idea.
muh colony
>>
>>547947
I propose we destroyed the impending threat in the south before they gather the forces to go on the offense againt the kingdom of Roggar.
>>
>>547947
I say go south and take care of the raiding then help the others. Since we need to be at top shape first
>>
>>547947
We should send a message to Paitras and try and coordinate with them to handle the threats from the north and south focusing on the southern threat first.
>>
>>547947
>>547951
I believe this is the best solution, while leaving some men behind, including the King's guard, to protect us if the North attacks while the army are away. Meanwhile, send envoys to our allies and any diplomatic neutrals to hear their findings and whether or not they would be willing to ally us.

The Gunnarson Clan trace their ancestry back to the Warlord Sredgnar and his first and only son Gunnar. With a decree from the Kingdom of Roggar stripping Gunnar's father of his land and conscripting them as warriors, Gunnar was left with little hope for a future of his people. However, an opportunity presented itself when the Kingdom of Roggar descided to take the region of Vaesdeman, then ruled by the Warlord Jarvinsun. With the support of Gunnar’s new countrymen, it was decided he would represent Roggar in the duel, which he won, in part due to the high quality armaments from Roggar War Council. With this honorable victory Gunnar became the leader of a large group of norse warriors and a few giants, even surpassing his father before him.

Gunnar now burdened with the duties as a duke decided to develop his clan into something more akin to a dynasty, and to do this he needed marriages. Gunnar’s son Knut married the recently deceased Jarvinsun’s daughter. Then Bardolf of Godric came with a most generous offer by offering his son Kurt to marry Inge, Gunnar’s daughter. Gunnar then did his best to establish himself as the de facto leader of all norsemen in Roggar. The non-pagans however weren’t 100% convinced. It was then Gunnar was given the great honor of being appointed High Admiral of Roggar by Dragon King Griff the Dragonslayer. An alliance with the Ranger Grandmaster was also struck which traded norse craftsmanship for access to the newly discovered berserk darts. After many accidents this serum was turned into berzerker potions creating a new norse fighting unit: Viking Berzerkers, combining both shamanistic magic and physical might!

However, there were still many downsides to the invention. Gunnar’s son, Knut, had become extremely aggressive after prolonged use. And when the fleet of Roggar transporting most of its armed forces was attacked Knut and many of his fellow norse warriors fought an unwinnable battle that lead to their deaths. Not even Gunnar’s most trusted vassal Maurelius Vasentiu could save Knut from himself.

Gunnar, nearing the end of his life, was without an heir. With nothing left to lose he left with many of the remaining northerners in Roggar to Gunnar's colony to try rally the northerners to rise up against the dragon tyrants! This was Gunnar's final hope to get revenge and bring honour to his family. Whether or not this desperate attempt was likely to succeed Gunnar was determined, but only time would tell if this was the end for the Gunnarson Clan.

But there is hope...

Dear Thuzad of the Nayteminds
The search party seem to have been successful as they have found a skeleton of a man holding two coffins full of ruined wet swampweed, unfortunately when they tried to take the swampweed from the skeleton he wouldn't even budge. Seeing that the skeleton would never let go of his swampweed they only took his skull. To appease and make it not curse our whole Clan the explores stuck two joints of swampweed in its mouth, i hope you don;t mind that too much.

I'm out of time for today, I hope to be able to continue tomorrow in a new thread.
Until then, formulate a foreign policy plan.
Any factions that didn't do a faction project for the 310-319 decade can do it now and I'll count it.
You could say this is...An Overture to a New War.

To the Roggar Council of Lords
-------
Greetings my Lord it has come to my attention that matters of our foreign relations are soon to be brought before our council. I have several suggestions that I would have you look over and take into account when deciding upon your actions in the coming days.

-New Ogre Have-
Should be added to Roggar proper as they have been a peaceful people for quite some time and should be allowed to reap the prospers that joining Roggar gives them.

-Free City of Ravlegith-
Offer them to join Roggar as an independent protectorate entailing military protection for nominal tribute.

-Patrais-
Tell them we shall hold the pact if they are attacked, suggest they try and find peace with this barbarian king, even giving him tribute to turn his attentions elsewhere. They have the dwarfs and elves as close allies they are in a better spot then us.

-Halfling Kingdom-
We know next then nothing about the practices and culture of the Halfling with our old alliance being a fragile thing. Invite the Halfling King and Queen to Roggar for a great feast to rekindle our friendship and learn more about them.

-Northern Empire-
Send the Royal Spymaster north to sow deceit and treachery among their lands. Innar II rules through tyranny so we must support every attempt to overthrow or assassinate him. Every rebel should be financed and those loyal to him should be targeted for assassination. A strong watch should be set for signs of invasion on any allied fronts.

-Ogre Lands-
The colony in the Ogrelands is a private expansion and should be left to them to protect, if we must contact the halflings about aid. The Ogres have not attack southward in some times and should be left be till we deal with bigger problems.

-Southern Steppes Centuars-
The Southern Centaurs have repeatedly raided and should be dealt with enforce. A fortress should be built in the Plains to facilitate as a lynch pin for the conquering of the steppes allowing a place for troops to rest and recuperate in the flat lands. A simple ringed fort with accompanying trenches would be more then enough to stop the low-tech centaurs.
