You are Kusajishi Riku, Captain of the Seireitei's Ninth Division and personal witness to the final moments of Head Captain Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni's long life.

But this is not the time to mourn.

Not long after the Head Captain killed the arrancar Arturo Plateado, even as Captains and Lieutenants gathered around the incinerated site of their battle, a giant stone monolith fell from the sky heralding the arrival of the Royal Special Task Force. These five shinigami are said to possess a combined power that exceeds that of the entire Gotei 13, including the former Head Captain. Of course the same sort of rumor also maintained that the Sōkyoku possessed the power of a million zanpakuto, and after seeing that weapon in action you know that such estimates are often wildly off the mark. As with the execution spear you're not sure that the raw power amounts to what people claim, but each member of the Royal Guard is no doubt at least as powerful as you or Yoruichi and probably expresses that power in bizarre and unpredictable ways.

From the dust emerge five improbable figures, some familiar and some not. One is a giant man with a shaved head and bushy beard, very round in figure but undeniably powerful. A second woman is even larger than this man, with familiar purple hair but an absurd figure that makes you doubt yourself regarding her identity. The third is a slender woman with an ornate costume, and the fourth is a man with the most terrifying pompadour you can claim to have ever seen.

The fifth lets out a surprised whoop when he sees you.

“Good to see you made it through that bullshit in good condition, Miss Tetsushin, Miss Shunshin!” Ōetsu waves jovially, drawing concerned stares from the likes of Byakuya and Komamura. “You miss me? Course you did, otherwise you wouldn't have given us a reason to drop by like this!”

“Believe me, that wasn't our intention, Tōshin,” Yoruichi grumbles mutinously, clearly annoyed at the flippant tone. “Hey, haven't you guys parked that thing in an inconvenient spot?”

“Seems you have a problem, Unohana,” the man with the pompadour frowns, staring at your fellow Captain whose own gaze meets his with a smile.

“It would seem that you do as well, Kirinji,” she replies in that calm voice that somehow triggers all of your survival instincts simultaneously. “You crashed your tower into my headquarters. I trust you're prepared to make amends promptly?”

you could always just runaway to akun

but to be fair this quest is big name enough to not drown in the sea of halfbaked ideas and abandoned quests of qst.

Several other shinigami around you recognize that tone. Suì Fēng's hand finds Suzumebachi's hilt, while Komamura goes so far as to draw Tenken from its sheath but makes no move to actually attack. He's too angry at the death of his mentor to think clearly right now, so thankfully Shunsui places a hand on the giant Captain's right wrist and shakes his head in silent warning. After that quick glance around the group your eyes fall back on Ōetsu, whose cheesy grin only widens under the force of your scowl.

“Oh, not now,” the rotund woman you can only guess is Hikifune groans. “Why do they always get like... oh my, is that Yoruichi's little Lieutenant!?”

It takes you a moment to realize she's actually talking about you, since that was so long ago Suì Fēng hadn't come into the picture yet. By the time that thought finishes gestating in your mind you've very nearly been scooped up into a bear hug, and only just have time to free Tenkotsuki's blade within her sheath. The pommel cap rests lightly against Hikifune's enormous belly as she halts herself mid-stride, and your eyes meet hers. The smile that was on her face evaporates as she sees that while the gesture was subtle it was also a sincere warning for her to keep her distance.

“Hikifune,” you greet the large, purple-haired woman rather coldly as she takes a step back from you. “It's been a long time, more than a hundred years. Why have you returned now, of all times?”

“I hope that you don't blame us for the loss of two of your comrades,” she offers, her voice taking on an almost hurt tone. “But we have our own duties, you see. Sometimes they conflict with what we'd rather do.”

Just as quietly, you extend your left thumb over Tenkotsuki's guard and slide her blade back into place.

“Sorry,” you apologize with a subtle bow of your head. Not deep enough to break eye contact, but just enough to demonstrate the sincerity of the gesture. “I understand of course. That was more a matter of instinct than of personal judgment.”

“It wasn't the wrong instinct,” Hikifune admits with a sigh. “If you'll excuse me, I forgot to do something before coming here. I'll be along to join you in a few minutes.”

As the enormous purple-haired women turns back towards the fallen tower she arrived in, Yoruichi leans over to whisper behind her hand. “So it's not just me, right? She's put on like a thousand pounds?”

“I wasn't gonna say anything,” you admit in a whisper of your own, “but that IS a whole lot of woman, and not in a sexy sorta way. The hell happened?”

“You've had some of her cooking before, right?” your wife asks. Ah, that explains it. Not even your metabolism could handle three square meals a day of that without you ballooning up into a caricature of the human form.

The one who by process of elimination must be 'the Monk' clears his throat loudly. “We are here to ensure that the Gotei 13 return to combat readiness as swiftly as possible.”

“Had you been here an hour ago,” Komamura growls angrily, “we would have no further need of your 'help' by now! Two of our Captains would not have died!”

“Sajin!” Shunsui snaps, his characteristic calm shattered for an instant before taking a moment to regain his composure. The anguish of having lost both his mentor and closest friend within the span of minutes is clear in his eyes. “Pointing fingers won't bring the dead back to life.”

“What a pain in the ass,” you here Kenpachi grumble nearby. “The geezer went out on his own fuckin' terms, moron. Ain't nobody's fault.”

“The Royal Special Task Force doesn't exist to bail our asses out,” Yoruichi adds, joining the other Captains and resting her hand gently on Shunsui's shoulder. “And doing so would've put their own charge at risk.”

“Exactly right,” Ichibē nods solemnly. “But we will have time to talk later.”

“Since we're talkin' about holdin' some sort of meeting, my Division was spared any real damage,” a familiar voice offers, at once calm and sinister in tone. “I borrowed some furniture from Aizen's office after he ran off, an' I'm keen to finally use it... with the Head Captain's approval, of course.”

Looking to your left, you see that Gin's got a look in his eye that's not at all one of sincerity. Rangiku notices it as well, glancing at you with obvious uncertainty as she recognizes the almost playful malice of a man who's preparing to make life a pain in the ass for someone he feels deserves it. Shunsui can't possibly know what that look means. He'll see it as a thoughtful offer and accept if nobody wiser in the ways of Ichimaru Gin interrupts.

Thanks. No way to control the winds and tides now, the best I can do is keep this boat afloat.

For those of you who have followed me over from /tg/, welcome back from the hiatus! And for those who may just be joining us, a few general points about what to expect: I don't know. Having never run on /qst/ before I don't know what sort of pace to expect or what sort of participation is considered normal, so I'm taking things as they come. For those more used to a slow pace, 15 minutes was my typical voting period on /tg/ and I aimed to crank out at least 2000 characters as quickly as possible. For those more used to my /tg/ pace things may end up going a bit slower today. No guarantees either way.

Dice rolls will be called for at my discretion, typically when an action with a chance of failure is chosen. These are almost always 3d10, best of three against a set DC. If two of the 3d10 pass the DC, for example
>7,7,1 against DC 7
the roll is considered a success. If three of the 3d10 pass it's a critical success. If the best roll of the first three only has one pass it's a failure, pray that you don't have a trio of rolls with no passes.

For a brief moment you ponder whether or not you should say something to Shunsui. Maybe this isn't the time for Gin's antics, particularly since they're almost certainly going to be aimed at antagonizing the Royal Guard. Perhaps you should, on this one occasion, show him an example of restraint and dignity.

Nah.

“I don't think I've seen your Division headquarters in years, Captain Ichimaru!” you reply, making your best effort to sound genuinely intrigued. Rangiku stares at you in utter non-comprehension, either unwilling or unable to believe that you just declared open season on the Royal Guard. “I'd love to see what you've done with the place, and I think some of those dried fruits your Division makes along with some tea may go a long way towards soothing some frayed nerves.”

“That does sound nice,” Shunsui sighs wistfully, “and I'm not really sure I'm ready to step into the Old Man's shoes just yet. Going to the First Division would just feel wrong, you know?”

“They were big shoes,” you allow, cocking an eyebrow at Yoruichi who has to stifle an inappropriate laugh. “I can understand the hesitation.”

“Then it's settled,” Ichibē booms. “One hour to heal the wounded as best we can, and then we can discuss the future in greater detail.”

With that conclusion, the Monk stares straight at you as if trying to burn a hole through your face with his eyes.

“I look forward to it.”

You nod sternly. “As do I.”

Zaraki glances back and forth between you and the Monk before the latter walks away to join his colleagues in peeling Kirinji away from Unohana.

“Hell, you could cut the tension with a knife,” Kenpachi grumbles. “Well, none of my damn business.”

“Never thought I'd hear you being the voice of reason,” you grumble back as you motion for Rangiku to follow you. “Not sure I like it.”

“Makes two of us,” Kenpachi shrugs. “Guess I just never expected the Old Man to die.”

“That makes twelve of us,” you reply.

As the crowd of Captains and Lieutenants begins to dissipate, you find yourself with an hour to spare. You could return to your own Division and deliver the bad news in person, or you could make arrangements prior to the planned meeting at Gin's Division.

Before you leave as well, you place a hand on Rangiku's shoulder, pulling her aside. In a low voice you explain what you want from her.

“Shunsui's having the worst day of his extremely long life,” you tell her with a furtive glance in the new Head Captain's direction. “Just... make sure he's not alone, okay? And keep him sober until the Royal Guard are gone.”

She glances at him, a melancholic look on her face that speaks to her understanding of the situation. “I will, Captain. Break it to them softly?”

“To the best of my ability,” you nod quietly.

It takes you a few minutes longer than usual to reach the Ninth Division's grounds, weighed down not by tiredness in your limbs or by wounds suffered in battle, but by a heavy heart. You and Yamamoto may not have always agreed, but in retrospect the Old Man may have been the closest thing you've ever had to a father figure. Distant yes, and difficult to work with, but in many ways it wouldn't be an unreasonable summary. And despite being such a pain in your ass at times losing him stings.

Your subordinates seem to know that something is wrong. Many of them could feel the reiatsu released in the fight, and no doubt word has spread among the Gotei 13 that something has gone horribly wrong. So it doesn't take long at all to assemble them.

“Head Captain Yamamoto has passed,” you announce simply, drawing a series of shocked gasps and a swell of murmurs throughout the crowd of shinigami. “Captain Ukitake is also dead... at least medically speaking. Their bodies have been put in stasis by Captain Urahara, though at present there's no way to tell if their conditions will ever be reversed. Captain Kyōraku is now the Head Captain, and the Royal Guard have called a meeting to discuss the future of the Gotei 13.”

“I'm sure that the Ninth Division will take a leading role in this future, and that heavy hearts aside you are each ready to contribute in the way I know you are capable. We have suffered a blow today from which we will recover, and for their sake we must recover. We shall not be shaken or dispirited, our bonds of fellowship shall not be broken... we shall continue always to protect what should be protected, and destroy that which threatens it.”

Not the most upbeat of speeches, but you've never been good at those. You can only hope it drives home the need for your subordinates to stay strong, and not to give up hope. If you've managed that... it's all you could have ever wanted.

“A bit longer than I like,” Starrk admits in a lazy drawl as you approach the little out-of-place group of arrancars and humans. “But it seems to have done the trick.”

He rises from the ground, where he's been laying on his back, and cracks his neck. “I take it you want us at this silly meeting thing?”

>I wake up to quests being purged off of /tg/ by Hitler mods.

My god. None of us needed this shit. Well if anything, at least the majority of the questers should be moving to here rather than akun, which should hopefully clean up this board by filling it with competent people, to a degree.

At least Lordlicorice (That is his name right?) is one of the most based faggots around, and had already set up the tg and quest archives to be linked, so questers could find the archived quests between boards.

So while i want to go full mad max on the mods right now, i have to admit there are some positive points, assuming us questers stick together and keep our own community strong.

And no matter what, you still have a loyal audience Queen, so carry on.
>>
>>550380
You find yourself sharply divided.

On the one hand, despite rolling up into the Seireitei with all five of their number the Royal Guard may not react well to you bringing everyone involved in this mess. It could be seen as a tacit threat by some, a show of force involving an assembly of shinigami, hollows, humans, and quincy who are more loyal to each other than to any centralized authority. But at the same time many of these people before you are about to be drawn into what promises to be a messy conflict, in some cases for no other reason than their associations with you: no matter how innocent.

So you compromise.

“I want one arrancar and one quincy to accompany me,” you decide, still working out the right balance in your head. “You can decide among yourselves who comes with me and who stays. Tatsuki, Ichigo, I want you to come with me as well. I don't want to seem like I'm making a statement of aggression here, but at the same time you all deserve to be represented when the Royal Guard say their piece.”

“I'm afraid I may have gotten you into something none of us expected.”

“What does that even mean?” Tatsuki sighs after a few moments spent trying to process the statement. “All of this is more than I expected, starting from the moment I punched the face off a spooky floating ghost octopus!”

“I don't fully understand my place in this world myself,” you admit truthfully, “but the answer does affect you all through its effect on me, and you deserve to know that answer as well.”

“I getcha,” Apacci replies with a frown. “We've known each other longest, yeah? So I guess it makes sense that I go with you.”

Halibel gives you a sagely nod of agreement. “It's important to her.”

“Then I'm happy to have you along,” you bow to Apacci who returns the gesture. Amazing how far she's come from being that terrified deer-like adjuchas you stumbled over in the wastes of Hueco Mundo. Knowing what she's made of herself in the last hundred years does much to reassure you that you've been right all along, and you're reminded of that every time you see her. “Ishida? Bambietta? Your thoughts?”

Bambietta ponders the question for a moment or two before coming to a conclusion. “You're gonna tell me sooner or later anyway, so there's no reason for me to risk making a scene. But this brat's the future of our people. If anyone goes it should be him.”

Ishida Uryū offers you a polite but rather curt bow. “If you'd be willing to tolerate my intrusion, that is. I would be honored to represent my clan and people.”

“Quit being so melodramatic,” Ichigo sighs, cracking his classmate over the back of the head. “Besides, I'm part quincy too, right? So don't go takin' all that bullshit on yourself, dumbass. You're not that important.”

“Are you sure you want me to represent... well, all of humanity?” Tatsuki asks, seemingly still taken aback by the reality of what you're asking of her.

There was no clear consensus. Some people suggested Ichigo and Tatsuki, some people cherrypicked, some wanted fewer people to make less of a scene, some wanted everyone.

I did what I could to come to a middle ground.

“Hey, any of you lot wanna come talk to the five guardians of God?” you ask facetiously, glancing between Ichigo's other classmates. “I hear they really don't like me, or anyone associated with me.”

“I'll pass,” Chad insists quietly.

“Hell no!” Asano shouts.

Mizuiro bows politely. “What they said.”

From the ground, the lesbian one shouts something rude as she continues trying to break free of a kidō someone placed on her and forgot in all the commotion.

Orihime looks at you, clearly confused. “Wait, God has guardians?”

You turn your attention back to Tatsuki. “So you coming or what?”

“I guess?”

You nod thoughtfully. “Good. This is good, isn't it?”

“Probably?” Starrk shrugs. “If you need any of the rest of us... call someone else, I need a nap.”

As Lilynette kicks her partner in the face, shouting something about being rude, you escort your cohort from the Ninth Division's barracks and lead them towards the Third Division.

The grounds are lovely, as it turns out. A small orchard of cherry trees dotted with fruit stand unattended by the shinigami under Gin's command, too few people right now in the mood to pick the last few sweet berries from the highest branches. Gin's office is in a large, wide, formal building with no outward-facing windows that seems to be built around a series of inner gardens: one rock garden with thirteen stones and a field of raked white gravel with verandas wrapping around it on all sides, small corners of verdant green shade trees and ornamental ferns tucked between individual halls, and the occasional late-summer flower to be found here and there. The hall where Captains have been assembling is not difficult to find: it's the one that feels like it's about to collapse under the weight of so many officers' reiatsu, even at rest.

The effect of this gathering would be more stifling to most people than the oppressive heat and humidity. Ignoring it however, you enter to find a comfortable if somewhat larger than usual parlor decorated with several low tables and comfortable looking chairs. Other Captains have laid claim to some of these, but there are a few options available.

>Allow your group to disperse and "mingle".
>Claim the couch for the Ninth and Second Divisions. Keep mostly to yourselves until the main event starts, don't risk stepping on any toes.
>Meet with Gin, see what he has planned.

So I took the smaller group size of just Starrk and Halibel and combined it with the wide representation of "everyone".

If a compromise like that bothers people I can avoid doing it in the future, but I felt it was the best way to represent the greatest number of people's basic intents.

“Well, go on,” you quietly prompt the other members of your group, “mingle a little, make nice, you know. Schmooze.”

“Hey, Byakuya!” Ichigo immediately calls out, having noticed Zaraki's presence and immediately endeavoring to speak with anyone else first. He drags Tatsuki along with him, who glances nervously at the spiky-haired Captain her friend seems so keen to avoid.

“Hey quincy brat,” Apacci mutters, elbowing Ishida in the ribs. “Let's go say hi to the new Head Captain. It's a big responsibility, innit, tryin' to make your whole race look good.”

“I hardly need to hear such words from you,” Ishida sighs, adjusting his glasses. “But as abrasive as I find you...”

“Come ON!” Apacci insists, grabbing Ishida by the collar and hauling him off behind her. “Quit bein' such an angsty teen already! We get it.”

“Hitsugaya!” you greet the short Captain warmly as you pass him by. “You're back on your feet already?”

“I'm as surprised as you are,” he admits, “but the medical skills of the Royal Guard are not to be made light of.”

He gestures with a tilt of his head at the table where all five of the Royal Guard are seated, somewhat kept separate from the Captains and their Lieutenants, while Gin and Rangiku stand near them talking about something seemingly trivial. But from here your senses tell you that something is amiss: Gin is disguising his reiatsu. You can tell, the way a mother always can, that he's released his sword and used the training you gave him to keep from raising a fuss. Most people would be none the wiser, as he's done a great job hiding it. But he clearly expects trouble... that's probably Kamishini no Yari he's prepared to unleash at a moments' notice.

“Be careful, Captain Kusajishi,” Hitsugaya warns you quietly as his new Lieutenant Kira seems too busy arguing with Renji to notice him lean closer. “Whatever they're here for, the way Ichibē and Kirinji stared at you when you arrived doesn't sit right.”

“Thanks for the warning, Captain,” you nod carefully, having been sure to clearly enunciate his rank. You didn't used to give the young man much credit, but since Aizen's defection he's been increasingly mature for lack of a better adjective. It suits him. “I appreciate your concern.”

The entire room is filled with an uncomfortable tension that can only mean... holy shit, is that ever a couch!

“Hey, Captain Kusajishi!” Yoruichi waves with a self-satisfied grin. “I saved you and your entourage a spot!”

“This was in Aizen's barracks?” you ask, admiring the low, plush seats and dramatically high back of this extraordinary piece of furniture. “Is it comfortable?”

“Amazingly,” she responds, patting the seat near her. “Try it on for size!”

That IS comfortable... it's worlds different from sitting on thin cushions over tatami mats, or else just straight on the floor. You could get used to this.

“You like?” Gin asks as he approaches, with Lieutenant Hinamori hot on his heels. “Say what you will, that Aizen always had a flair for the dramatic.”

The Lieutenant hands you a cup of tea, which you sip from gingerly. Decaffeinated Earl Grey... the Royal Guard are going to despise this, but it's honestly not bad for anyone who's not a hopeless traditionalist. A good choice in that regard.

“Good tea,” you commend your son, “nice couch.”

"Is everything else in place like I asked?" Gin asks Momo quietly. She nods affirmative. "Good, good. You've done well, my apprentice."

You cock an eyebrow at your son, who shrugs with the same sort of grin he used to get when you snagged him extra sweets from the Second Division's mess hall so many decades ago. Rangiku offers a shrug of her own when she and the others finally join you on the long couch.

"Now then," Ichibē begins, raising his own cup to take a sip... only to watch it snap free from the handle, shattering and pouring boiling hot tea onto his lap.

"I'm dreadfully sorry!" Gin apologizes with an ever-widening grin. "That was some of the old china I'm afraid. Momo, please fetch a new cup!"

"Right away, Captain!" Hinamori replies in a chipper tone, scurrying off to do as your son asked. The dark-haired woman raises one slender eyebrow at a now dramatically-thinner Hikifune, who smirks back.

>Where were you, Monk?

IC, it makes more sense for the more mature women of Seireitei to try and make some sense of logic for any given couple pairing.
Logic-wise, Apacci's being the usual outspoken and confident hollow daughteru we raised so well. Although we've yet to see any signs of her showing romantic interest, they'll crop up in time when her hollow hole shrinks or closes completely.
And Uryu is just inwardly despairing at the fact that what he's going through in trying to live up to his definition of becoming a strong quincy isn't what he wished for. Seriously, Boy needs to know True power lies in suffering!

>Q: Who actually IS interested in Ichigo? I mean, Orihime's a given, but she's even less important here than in canon; Rukia's shit at feelings, Tatsuki and him already tried. Are Isshin's hopes for grandchildren just futile dreams?

>A: IC Tatsuki clearly isn't over it, and Rukia feels... something. Riku hasn't seen any evidence of Orihime taking an interest, and in fact doesn't think much of her aside from the fact that even with the restrictions she worked out her powers are a little disturbing.

You clear your throat, drawing attention from Captains, Lieutenants, and everyone else in the room.

“I understand you've been out of the loop for like a thousand years, but I believe it's tradition for the Head Captain to call these meetings to order?” you observe slyly, locking eyes with Ichibē. More than one shinigami makes their agreement known through quiet comments between themselves or some other reaction. While nearby Tatsuki almost seems aghast that so many shinigami are staring towards your cohort's couch, others aren't nearly so concerned: you can practically feel the smugness radiating off Yoruichi's body, and even Rangiku takes a prolonged sip at her tea so that she doesn't have an opportunity to make a snarky comment. Free of any need to keep up an appearance, Apacci just snickers behind her hand.

“Well,” Shunsui begins awkwardly, “I guess we should get started then? Does anyone have any important business with the council of Captains?”

“If I may,” Kirinji cuts you off before you get the chance to share your item of concern, “why is it that Captain Kusajishi has brought two humans to this meeting?”

“Because they smell like teen spirits.”

Aside from a snort of laughter from your wife and the sounds of everyone at the couch but Apacci stifling their own laughter with varying degrees of success, you're mostly greeted by silence. Finally, you relent and give Kirinji the answer he was looking for with a frustrated sigh. “This meeting concerns them as well. I can't in good conscience allow the allies with whom I share extraordinary personal loyalty to miss what I suspect is to be a crucial event in terms of future Seireitei policies towards humans, hollows, and quincy.”

“Now if that's all the nit you'd like to pick I have something that's actually important to say?”

With no immediate disagreement, Shunsui gestures for you to continue. “I have a message from the goddess Artemis, from when I was last in Europe.”

Ichibē rises to his feet, placing his hands firmly and dramatically on the table in front of him and his fellow Royal Guard... only for that table to collapse to the floor in a loud crash of splintering wood and shattering porcelain. Tea and snacks roll across the floor in a most magnificent manner.

For a moment nobody speaks.

“My,” Gin grins manically, despite his apologetic tone. “Now that's just poor craftsmanship! My apologies to all involved, that simply won't do!”

“It's fine,” the Monk insists sternly, sitting back down in his chair and resting comfortably for only a moment before the legs give out from under him. The seat of the chair crashes loudly into the hardwood floor next to the table.

“How unfortunate,” Gin pretends to frown in thought. “Mister Hyōsube, if I didn't know any better I'd say this was some form of karmic justice. But we all know you can't have done anything to deserve such misfortune!”

This time it's Rangiku who's grinning dangerously, and you catch a glimpse of a small wisp of ash passing by your leg on its way to Haineko's sheath. Clever girl. You raised that one well too it seems.

On your opposite side, a tear of pride wells up in Yoruichi's eye that she's forced to blink away.

“Why did you not tell us of this sooner?' the Monk booms, electing to stand while his colleagues simply share a series of uncomfortable glances. “A message from another god is rare and critically important to share!”

“The time finally seems right,” you admit calmly. “Besides, it's not the Royal Guard or the Seireitei she asked. She wanted a favor of me, and those closely associated with me: to investigate the reasons behind local fluctuations in spiritual particle density focused here in the Japanese archipelago.”

“The Jew Ray whatever?” Ichigo asks, as Ishida's palm meets his forehead with a dramatic slapping sound. “Is that what you mean?”

“Actually yes. There has to be a reason Japan's reishi concentrations are so exceptional, some event in our history that left such a lasting impact.”

You notice that there's some discomfort among the Royal Guard, and in that moment Hikifune actually catches your eye and nods. Either they know the answer that you and Artemis seek, or else they know part of it.

“Oh? So Japan's weird or somethin'?” Kenpachi mutters, trying to keep up with the topic at hand.

“Indeed,” Byakuya agrees quietly, sharing his thoughts in a rare moment of openness. “I have often wondered as much myself. Surely if it were random it would not have favored one region for so many hundreds of years, so there must be a reason. The only question...”

“Is what?” Shunsui completes his thought with a stern glare in the Royal Guard's direction. “I must say it's quite a conundrum. It's been true as long as I can remember, but Japan's reishi density has always been great. It was the Great War that showed me how unusual it really was.”

“Care to share your thoughts?” Yoruichi challenges your visitors.

“There was a single event, more than two thousand years ago,” Hikifune admits, drawing a sharp glare from Kirinji who seems not to want her to explain in any depth. “Divine business... it's policy not to discuss it, really.”

I think the answer more accuately has to do with the late relative of the Soul king, Yhwach. Yes Jesus is involved. But my theory is that Jesus is involve in the manner of Yhwach went by the name of Jesus back then but didn't really die when he got strung up on the cross, got stabbed by the holy spear and rez'd himself 3 days later and all that drama/jazz. However it doesn't explain why 90% of the world's reishi concentration went straight to japan. Something happened among the east asian pantheon around 12 ad that caused Japan and parts of eastern china to turn into a giant reishi magnet. Like a god of a different pantheon packing up and setting up shop in the shinto pantheon under a different name and bringing the baggage duty of reishi/soul recycling along with them.

The cycling of souls does involve a lot of reishi and there's few divine entities (Hades, Izangi's sister/wife, Izangi himself) who took that job.

That's the frustrating part, it's got all the visual hints that it might be cancer and it's persistent, for at least a month or two since I first noticed it, but I brushed it off because of where it was.

So I just don't fucking know, and I won't know until I ask.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, as my own recent family experiences show, sometimes it really IS cancer. “You know my situation,” you counter, narrowing your eyes. “You know why that rule doesn't apply to me. So you can tell me, and I'll tell Artemis... but I DO want an answer out of you. The Royal Guard's been entirely too cagey up until this point.”

“Agreed,” Hitsugaya rejoins. “What purpose does such secrecy serve other than to divide us?”

“Come on, the poor girl should know the truth,” Hikifune practically pleads with her superior. “It's something so important that we're ready to kill her if need be but you can't find the decency to explain it? Surely you can see what's wrong with that picture?”

At first you're not sure what the Monk is going to do. Your fellow Captains almost universally realize that something extraordinary is going on, but most aren't sure what to make of it until he finally speaks.

“Very well. Japan is both blessed and cursed by the actions of two of its gods, many hundreds of years ago. The entity known as the Soul King is among those gods, bound now both to protect him as well as to protect the world from him. But this was not always so.”

Seeing that none present are going to interrupt him with impertinent questions, he continues. “The gods are not so different from you or I, and in that lies a certain danger. The gods have rules, a system of checks and balances. But half-gods, or those of divine blood... they are neither fully mortal nor fully divine, and cannot be ruled over by the laws regarding either of their parentage.”

“Half-gods?” Zaraki snorts. “What a load of shit.”

“It may sound ridiculous to those who have not seen it happen,” the Monk counters sharply, “but rest assured Kenpachi, it has happened in the past with disastrous consequences. The quincy for example are descended from the half-divine children of Izanagi, who is responsible for the reishi density within Japan after his descent to the living world with the great spear Amenonuhoko, as is chronicled in the ancient stories. And it was their unusual power and the problems that created which led to a war between them and the shinigami which claimed countless lives on both sides.”
>1/2
>>
>>551863
Ishida grimaces, trying to hold back an outburst while Ichigo clenches his fists. “It was spurred on of course by a second instance of a half-divine child: the son of the Soul King, Yhwach the Almighty. One-time King of the quincy, who led them on the path of a war that nearly destroyed the Soul Society. And now Aizen seeks to gain divine powers for himself, in order to challenge the very structure of the world as we know it... it is this dangerous proximity of the gods to the living world that has led to the unusual concentrations of reishi in this region that makes everything we are possible, and yet that very same proximity constantly threatens to become our undoing!”

“So the Royal Guard is also responsible for keeping errant divinities under control?” Yoruichi asks, glaring at Ichibē.

“And we have been for over a thousand years, yes,” he replies, staring directly at you... almost through you, in fact... a strange, unwelcome sensation of pure hatred wells up within you.

From Queen's ask.fm:
Is their concern with Riku more because of who her divine part was and the implications of her return? The sudden appearance of the victim of a 900 year old divine cold case must have stirred up some commotion: accusations of foul play all around?

Partly. But as you may recall Inari wasn't especially surprised to see her daughter again, and even human chroniclers knew she was still around in some form even if they got some of the details wrong (particularly in the re-telling). But it IS an uncomfortable reminder of a time when a fairly young goddess was killed for crossing the wrong line.

It may also be coloring the Royal Guards' reactions somewhat, because Tenkotsuki's made trouble before.
>>
Well

>>
>>551949
the problem is, they have a really shitty recruitment policy. "Did something new and cool" is a really bad way to find the people best-suited to guarding the Soul King (or hunting down rogue gods, in this setting)
>>
>>551981
They recruit that way because people who do new and cool stuff are the types of people who will make waves and change. Need to get them away and isolate them. Probably why their pissed that we denied their promotion.
>>
>>552001
Yea, but that's still not a sensible way to recruit when your job is guarding the Soul King/policing the gods.
>>
>>552001
oh, it's great if you're trying to imprison or corral people. But, that's part of the reason they're completely useless when it comes to actually fighting (fucking RENJI did better fighting Yhwach's goons than they did)

“It was him...” Tenkotsuki's voice echos in your mind. “The one who supplied the arrow that killed me, the arrow that should not have existed within the mortal realm... it was HIM!”

Reiatsu pours forth from your body in waves of pale white. You've risen to your feet in an instant and grasped the hilt of your sword before you could consciously check the movement, pure rage filling your heart. Pulsing, white-hot, and righteous fury at the injustice meted out to what has become an inseparable part of yourself. Their guilt is beyond question.

Yoruichi rises to her feet as well, both swords drawn the same instant, though she's unsure what to do about the present situation: whether to stop you or join you, torn between two unsavory options. She's not alone, as swords are drawn throughout the room.

“Riku,” she asks quietly. “Are you...”

“I'm fine,” you insist, struggling to get your reiatsu back under control and forcing your right hand back down to your side. “I've got this under control... barely.”

You hear the sound of two stout blades returning to their sheath. “If you say so.”

“You,” you continue, turning your attention back to the Monk. “You said you're in charge of dealing with errant divine influences... was Tamamo no Mae among those? Was that why you had her killed?”

“Her death was not my decision to make,” the Monk explains calmly, “but yes. I supplied the projectile in question to the hunters Miura no Suke and Kazusa no Suke. The errant goddess Tamamo no Mae, child aspect of Inari, was deemed an existential threat. If left to further ingratiate herself with the court of the Emperor Toba she may have one day given birth to a son with the same terrible sort of power as Yhwach, or even sired a line of spiritually aware humans that would become the next quincy dynasty.”

“That was to be prevented at any cost.”

"At any cost," you repeat, the words tasting bitter on your tongue. "At any cost."

"I see your sword wishes to kill me," the Monk observes.

"Under most circumstances I'd have your head for what you've done," you spit, slowly returning to your seat. Every fiber of your being still wants to kill him on the spot, your swords for once sharing your thirst for vengeance to the point you're not sure whose it is anymore. "But it is an old wrong, and the present situation is of more concern. There will be plenty of time for you to die later."

A lot of strange looks come your way as the shinigami who each drew their own swords in anticipation of a fight struggle to understand what just happened.

yes, but Muramasa was another thing that managed to get a little bit of divinity. So why are we doing these guys' job as well as trying to maintain spiritual balance?

The fact that the new Quincy are weaker not just because of the lost of lore and artifacts, but because they lack the blood of their Jesus. So yes, confirmed by canon.

this, he stole yhwach's power, they're already late.

soul king's still alive and kicking. Yhwach was turned into a veggie in his death battle against Yamamoto in 1000 ad. Then one millennia later Aizen came along and killed him after robbing the divine powers that kept Yhwach alive from the catatonic king.
the C-46 has legitimacy but only in spiritual affairs on the diplomatic and home economical affairs. We're currently dealing with inter-afterlife divine politics like getting answers for a god of another pantheon (Artemis) who's asking why the fuck Japan's hoarding 90% of the world's reishi supply.
>>
>>552257

Despite all of that, the bottom line is he's still doing his job while on his 5 millennia parole, keeping the soul cycle powered and running. Shimigami are just the maintenance crew and Janitors who keep the metaphorical engine running smoothly.
The only regret the soul king has is that the guard never bothered to install a text-to-speech device on the crystal block so he can properly communicate and complain about all the little things to ease his boredom.

“If you went to that trouble to stop Tamamo no Mae all those years ago to end a threat that she might one day present,” you demand in a low growl, finally managing to get your swords' emotions back under control, “then why did you not step in against Aizen when he pursued Yhwach's power?”

“A fair question,” Hikifune admits, cutting Ichibē off presumably before he can say anything to piss you off even further. “Tamamo no Mae was fully divine, an aspect of Inari what's more. My understanding is that this is a very different sort of issue to Aizen gaining unusual powers as a shinigami. One is by nature the responsibility of the Royal Guard, the other is a matter for the Captains of the Gotei 13. And as you are well aware, we have to play by the rules just the same as deities must.”

“On the other hand you have proven quite the dilemma,” Shutara adds, gazing at you with more curiosity in her eyes than anything else. “You and your sword have been the topic of many of our arguments, whether a soul that is one-third divine by nature with increasing access to divine reiryoku can be treated as a deity. Hikifune and Tōshin wish to continue giving you latitude, while Ichibē and Kirinji do not.”

“Wait did she just say...” Tatsuki begins before you shush her.

“Later,” you hiss softly before turning to face Shutara. “And what do you think?”

“Me? Well, I'm undecided. Until I'm certain of your motivations I really can't judge whether you're the greatest threat we've ever faced or the greatest ally we could ever ask for. And having only met you briefly before means I've never formed a proper opinion.”

“Prudent,” Tenkotsuki grumbles in your head. “Almost annoyingly so.”

“Tenkotsuki thanks you for your consideration,” you embellish your sword's words. “So do you still believe that Aizen and his army are a problem for the Captains to solve?”

“We do,” Ōetsu replies with a grin. “Though it looks like you'll need some help, you understand?”

“Not really,” Komamura admits. Several of the other Captains nod in agreement.

“I'm sayin' you bunch aren't really fightin' at your full potential. Man, some of you're really holdin' yourselves back!”

“And you believe you can improve our fighting capability in time to make a difference?” Shunsui asks, raising the eyebrow that's not behind a patch. “How very thoughtful of you. But in case you haven't noticed we have an ongoing situation down here.”

Ah, yes, the reigai. With everything that's happened you've nearly forgotten them, and the strange girl Senna who came to your Division for help. Ichigo seems to fidget at mention of the reigai problem, even when it's not explicit.

Well Queen did answer that particular question on his/her ask.fm but it's buried super deep. Fortunately I remember the answer:
Queen said the C-46 members is decided by having the head of a noble family clan represent themselves in the C-46, one from each family starting from the greatest down to the smallest until the number adds up to 46. And no, the Soul King doesn't decide who the members are. In our case, the members of the current C-46 was decided in the manner stated above since Aizen wiped the old one out and there wasn't a set of instruction telling Seireitei what to do in the event the entire C-46 gets wiped out in one go without any successors.

Its sorta like the British system where Parliament Supposedly rules in the Queen's name.
Except the House of Commons doesn't exist, the House of Lords is full of assholes that nobody likes, and Queen Elizabeth has secretly been stuffed in a crystal.

For my attempt: Ichibe, you're dealing with an unknown problem that you have no experience in handling. Times change. You can't keep this under wraps forever. My latest sortie to Europe revealed that one of our member in Seireitei have been making clones of the G13 and even suppling them with Holy artifacts like the hapsburg lance. And that has the Gods of the western pantheon asking questions which in no doubt will raise concerns of how effective the royal guard has been. You wouldn't want to risk the wrath of the gods no less from 2 or 3 separate pantheons no?

“I have one more question that only you people can probably answer.”

At the turn of phrase “you people” the Monk raises an eyebrow, but says nothing.

“What causes a plus to turn into a hollow?”

Without missing a beat, he responds. “The emptiness and regret born of the vulnerability of the human heart.”

“That's not what I meant and you know it,” you growl. “Several of my closest friends were once menos, and they're also some of your strongest allies. I want to know what happened to them, whether it's a process that can be stopped. Whether others have to go through what they did.”

As others ponder the question, you notice Apacci looking at you with an expression you've never quite seen from her before, one that you can't quite place. It's something between gratitude and sorrow: she clearly never anticipated you'd confront the Guard of the Soul King itself out of a sense of duty to her and those like her. Almost as soon as you catch her at it she glances away again.

“Times change, Monk,” you press. “You can't keep this whole mess under wraps forever. Maybe it's time you started cooperating with others instead of driving them all away out of needless fear?”

“The hollows are the sad result of a curse laid upon the mortal world, right here in Japan,” Ichibē recalls quietly, as if from a very old memory. “It occurred before I came to be in this world, but I am told that Hueco Mundo is the realm of the dead goddess Izanami no Mikoto, and that pluses are the human souls she claims as revenge against her husband. One thousand a day, or so the curse supposedly goes. Whether this is true or not is still not at all clear to me, but this is what I have heard.”

“Is that true, Tenko?” you ask in a low voice.

Tenkotsuki remains silent for several long moments, prompting you to repeat her name a little louder. “It may be possible. I myself am not familiar with the final resting place of Izanami no Mikoto... Inari would refuse to speak of her, as would most other gods. It is considered a taboo, but if true I do not expect that her foul influence could be easily washed from this world.”

“I'll accept your explanation for now,” you nod at the Monk. “Sorry Apacci, but it sounds like that's beyond any of our ability to change. I wish it weren't.”

“It's a cosmic truth I guess,” Apacci sighs sadly. “Sucks to be us.”

"Now then, Head Captain," you sigh. "I apologize for that whole discussion. Maybe now we can discuss what to do about arrancar, vizards, quincy... and whatever the hell Yoruichi and I are."

>Apacci's feeling bummed after finding out the true origins of why Hollows exist: Is it possible to break Izanami's curse by one's own self? Apacci's so close and her hollow hole has shrunken so much from her original size it feels like she needs a little more bonding and encouragement to close that hole.

Hrrm

It occurs to me that we have just forced the Royal Guard to backpedal on a very significant 'fact' about what the G13 is supposed to do. We could potentially exploit the moment of weakness and extract boons from the situation.

For example, the legitimization of Quincy, Vizard and Arrancar special forces in the G13.

Is that sort of what you had in mind, King?
>>
>>552770
>And help her somehow break the Hollow curse.

Wait, if the curse is unbreakable then what's the deal with the hollow hole shrinkage?
>>
>>552949
Curses are breakable anon. Even ones made by goddesses. Enough common belief by mortals can turn a rusted spearhead into a divine artifact like the hapsburg lance or the lance of longinus. Anything's possible really. It's just that no one's ever attempted to break it in the first place. If the curse was unbreakable, then the hollow holes would not be able to shrink in the first place. The shrinkage of the hollow holes for Apacci and the others means that the curse can be weakened or possibly broken, but not without the proper support like they had with Riku giving them shelter, helping them rip their masks off and generally spend time to bond with them.
>>
>>552809
>"Is everything else in place like I asked?" Gin asks Momo quietly. She nods affirmative. "Good, good. You've done well, my apprentice."
Gin pulling an Emperor Palpatine and teaching Momo the art of Trolling others?
That's evil. So among the pranks that was pulled off, which one was Gin's, which one was Rangiku's, and which one was Momo's?
>>
>>552949
The curse which results in the creation of hollows will not be broken. The plight of individual hollows is still fixable.
>>
wow, it looks like running on /qst/ didn't actually give you super-AIDS or turned your dick into a meat pretzel! congrats!
>>
>>553137
Momo's was probably he decaf tea, Gin's was the busted teacup, and Rangiku's was when she cut up the table
>>
>>553162
This is correct. The curse was one placed on the whole world by Izanami: a thousand souls a day will become hollows, barring direct intervention.
>>553137
Momo weakened the chair and table legs by sawing most of the way through them. Same with the teacup handle. Gin finished the teacup and table, and so far Rangiku was responsible for the chair.
>>552938
It may actually be possible to slowly begin pushing for concessions at this meeting, but don't expect any miracles.
>>
does anyone with a better grasp of politics have any ideas what to push for? Maybe a line of communication of some sort? This whole thing could have been avoided if the royal guard just called up yamoto a few centuries ago and told him that azin was up to no good.

So, for those of you wondering what the fuck is going on right now: we have to go back.

About two hundred years ago, Captain Shihōin Yoruichi of Second Division killed a quincy in the living world: a young woman by the name of Rosa Rosette, who sacrificed her life to give her subordinates time to retreat. In doing so she both earned the Captain's eternal respect, and shattered her own soul under the weight of her regrets and despair. In this state, having nearly destroyed her very existence, something extraordinary happened. Rosa Rosette met another lost soul, that of the dead vulpine goddess Tamamo no Mae, who was a lesser aspect of Inari Ōkami. In exchange for stabilizing her soul and allowing her to pass on, Rosa Rosette offered Tamamo no Mae the one thing all quincy hold most dear: her pride.

The cycle of birth was at first unkind to the resulting spirit. Reborn into the Soul Society only part of the woman she was, with no memory of her previous life, she was reduced to a life of petty crime to eke out an existence in the slums of the Kusajishi district. Given the name “Riku” by the locals, she slowly worked her way towards the inner districts of the great city of the Rukongai where her exceptional speed allowed her to steal enough food and money to feed herself. To this day she has no solid grasp of how many years passed before one day a black cat happened to catch her using reiatsu to increase her speed.

This cat of course happened to be Yoruichi, the same Captain who killed her, out in the Rukongai on an errand. She led Riku to the Seireitei, taking her on as an apprentice within the Onmitsukidō where the training that honed her abilities in life helped her grow rapidly to the level of Lieutenant. Under Yoruichi's tutelage Riku learned the name of her zanpakuto, Tenkotsuki, who was the spirit of Tamamo no Mae which joined her years before, and after eighty or ninety years attained Bankai. She learned of her shared past with Yoruichi and forgave her for the incident which claimed her past life, as it was clear Yoruichi had carried with her feelings of intense guilt over an act Riku herself could scarcely remember. The two grew close over time, closer than most Captains and their Lieutenants are but less than lovers, increasingly familiar with each others habits and peculiarities after decades of both bonding and the occasional disagreement.

In those years Riku met many people whose roles in her long life were only then beginning, including a small group of female menos while tracking an escaped criminal in the hollow realm of Hueco Mundo, and served capably as a Lieutenant in the Gotei 13. She even adopted two orphans of her own from the inner Rukongai, Ichimaru Gin and Matsumoto Rangiku, helping them train to meet the potential she recognized in them.

One night, in 1900, her life was changed by complete accident. The traitor Captain Aizen, then a Lieutenant under Captain Shinji Hirako of Fifth Division, exposed a number of Captains and Lieutenants to an unknown infection which caused rapid hollowfication. After conferring with her small number of contacts in Hueco Mundo, Riku accidentally wandered into the scene of Aizen's experiment while hidden by a clever stealth spell, and was herself infected. In turn, Riku accidentally infected Yoruichi when she came to report the crime she witnessed.

Within the confines of Yoruichi and Urahara's hidden training chamber two things happened. The first was that Riku met the memories and anger of Rosa Rosette's personality, which Tenkotsuki had split off into a separate being to save her soul, and bested her in combat. As Yoruichi emerged victorious from a similar internal struggle, the two officers became the only “vizards” to have eluded discovery and capture by the Seireitei's government, the Central 46. Vowing to one day kill Aizen for his betrayal, they began training to control and eventually master the powers he unwittingly gave them. The second thing was that this event drew the two already close friends into a more intimate relationship, which for the most part would be kept secret even from their mutual friends and allies.

Aizen would escape justice for what he did that night, as did his closest compatriots: Ichimaru Gin, who had drawn closer to Aizen in an effort to gather evidence against him, and Tōsen, a blind swordsman in the Ninth Division. The hollowfied officers who were caught were sentenced to death and Urahara Kisuke and Tsukabishi Tessai were wrongly convicted of the crime, but all were allowed to flee to the living world with covert assistance from Yoruichi.

Riku soon became a Captain, of Ninth Division, replacing the exiled Vizard Muguruma Kensei in the position. She served in this role with Matsumoto Rangiku as her Lieutenant, and gathered a new core of “Commandos” to replace the officers lost in the Hollowfication Incident. These included at one point Iba Tetsuzaemon and other officers who would later become Lieutenants themselves. But two would remain in that role: Nikko Kai, an old friend of Riku's from her brief days at the Academy, and a girl named Mirai who Riku took into her tutelage. She also took a more extraordinary measure in presenting asauchi, blank zanpakuto, to four menos: Halibel, Apacci, Sung-Sun, and Mila Rose, whom she had met previously and found to be trustworthy. After introducing Coyote Starrk and Lilynette Gingerbuck to them, Riku would go on to found a close partnership with these hollows after helping several of them become powerful arrancar. These individuals, like Riku and Yoruichi, blurred the line between hollow and shinigami in a way the Central 46 would consider a capital crime were they ever to learn of it.

And so, Riku and her co-conspirators waited.

Two World Wars pushed the Ninth Division nearly to the breaking point, as it did with many units in the Gotei 13, but thanks in part to its unique squad and fireteam structure built around use of a small number of reishi rifles the Ninth weathered the storm better than most. Aizen, now a Captain as well, made no open moves for decades.

Riku treated this as an opportunity.

After an accident with what would later be presumed to be one of Aizen's experiments, a hollow that dissolved Tenkotsuki's blade, Riku used what little leverage she had with the Royal Guard to forge two new zanpakuto blades: one for Tenkotsuki, and the other for “Rosa”, her inner hollow. She began training anew to use both her pride and her rage in battle, as well as joining Yoruichi in a long-term effort to improve their abilities to sense reiatsu. This they hoped would help counter what they suspected to be Aizen's greatest ability: the “total hypnosis” caused by his zanpakuto.

Not all was training and battle however. In these years as Captain Riku was exposed to a broader world of spiritual phenomena. She met some of the gods of Japan, the Americas, and western Europe, as well as their shinigami-equivalents. Learning more about her own sword revealed its divine nature, and opened up a whole host of associated problems and opportunities, while dealing with the various nobles of the Seireitei led to her official adoption into the Shiba family. This in turn lent a degree of legitimacy to her quiet marriage to Yoruichi after several decades, which also remains a secret to most to this day.

Eventually Aizen made his move, using the soul of Shiba Kaien to create an artificial hollow that attacked shinigami and quincy living around Karakura town, in the living world. Thus were the events of “canon” set into motion: Shiba Isshin took responsibility and married Kurosaki Masaki, having a son and two daughters together. Riku had a hand in this of course, though her involvement was pretty much limited to shouting at Urahara to fix everything. Which to his credit, he did. When Ichigo was fifteen the long stalemate finally erupted into open aggression, and Riku and Aizen began making their plays surrounding the fate of Kuchiki Rukia: who with her older brother's approval was placed into your Division and a Commando.

During this period of unrest Riku helped set the teenager Arisawa Tatsuki on a path to power, which would lead her to the Seireitei with Ichigo on his rescue mission. She would offer the two occasional guidance, and Ichigo more than occasional help in order to keep him alive and fighting. She even went so far as to take down Captain Komamura Sajin when he came to arrest her on the “Central 46's” orders, while Rangiku put Captain Tōsen out of commission.

The battle came to a head when Aizen made his treachery known, and revealed himself to have gained divine power by stealing it from the catatonic quincy king Yhwach.

After fighting Riku and Yoruichi to a standstill and accidentally releasing the arrancar Arturo Plateado from his incarceration, Aizen fled with his last remaining conspirator: his Lieutenant, Amagai, and Captain Kurosuchi Mayuri of the Research Bureau. Gin for his part elected to remain in the Soul Society, taking this opportunity to reveal his true allegiances. The battle left the Seireitei bloodied, and with an obviously powerful enemy whose forces now threatened to eclipse the total power of the Gotei 13, but for now a stalemate had been reached between them once more.

Others however smelled the blood in the water.

The rogue zanpakuto Muramasa was foiled in his attempts to reunite with his lost wielder Kuchiki Kōga by the combined efforts of the Gotei 13, and shinigami and zanpakuto ended up permanently sealed away together through Muramasa's own last-minute change of heart. It was in this crisis that Riku discovered the powers of Inoue Orihime, a friend of Tatsuki's, which seemed to absolutely step into the realm of “cosmic horrors” rather than what a human should be capable of. Careful attention would be paid to her whenever Riku noticed her involvement from that point.

Ichigo and Yoruichi in the mean time continued to develop their own powers: Yoruichi taking the same route Riku did and forging her second zanpakuto Raijūsenkō, while Ichigo was kidnapped by the vizards and trained in basic hollowfication.

Scouting attempts of a sort have also become a regular occurrence: first in the form of a minor invasion which led to the deaths of several of Aizen's arrancar subordinates, Yoruichi taking the arm of an arrancar named Grimmjow, and the defeat and capture of an old quincy by the name of Bambietta Basterbinne. In preventing her companion Giselle from using her powers on Bambietta, Riku earned herself a grudging respect from the quincy. In later cooperating with a newly reinstated Captain Urahara in giving Bambietta spiritual antibodies and healing her age-worn brain, she may have gained a friend. In defeating the “privaron Espada” under the leadership of the arrancar Neliel tu Odelschwank she gained no friends or respect however, and may have made an enemy.

Now the future is uncertain. Copies of the Captains and Lieutenants of the Gotei 13 called reigai have launched a series of destructive assaults against the Seireitei, and the return of Arturo Plateado has led to the deaths of Captains Yamamoto and Ukitake: the latter when the fallen god keeping him alive fled in the face of Arturo's known ability to absorb reiatsu from those he killed, and the former in a fiery suplex that put an end to the millenia-old arrancar.

What comes next... well, that's not for me to say just yet. It's the future. You'll know it when you see it.

Which will be about 10am PST today.

Somehow I think it's fitting that we return a pair of sandals for Yamamoto at his funeral just in terms of book ends. Riku first met Yamamoto via sandal theft, she says goodbye to him by offering him a pair of sandals. Although this might give the wrong impression due to the japanese connotations of leaving footwear before committing suicide and said footwear is offered during a funeral.

"Now then, Head Captain," you sigh. "I apologize for that whole discussion. Maybe now we can discuss what to do about arrancar, vizards, quincy... and whatever the hell Yoruichi and I are."

Shunsui looks at you with obvious uncertainty, before pointing to himself. “Wait, you mean me?”

“Do you see another Head Captain in the room?”

“I suppose not,” Shunsui admits. “But I can't help but wonder where you're going with this. What do you mean, what should we do about you?”

“Old Man Yamamoto basically tolerated what he saw as my eccentricities,” you explain your concerns in greater detail. “But he never made an official ruling as to whether an alliance should at all be formalized, or whether we should endeavor to take prisoners in the coming battles as a matter of principle.”

“I figured that was why you brought such a diverse crowd of outsiders,” Suì Fēng interjects. “Including representatives of both arrancar and quincy.”

“We do have a stake in our peoples' futures,” Ishida frowns. “It is only sensible that we would...”

“What he means is yeah,” Apacci interrupts. “that's right.”

“That was what I said.”

“It's about time we cleared the air,” Byakuya agrees. “I find myself in agreement with Captain Kusajshi: one way or the other, we must decide on a single official position.”

"What has happened in the past few months could be described as the culmination of the Serities sins. Those that the Gotie 13 has harmed, often for justified reasons, have sensed an opportunity and are currently trying to destroy us. Should we try to return to the previous status quo we might succeed, but only at the cost of enormous casualties and undoubtedly laying the seeds of the next conflict. And frankly, next time we probably won't be so lucky as to have someone so lacking in leadership qualities as Aizen is as our opponent. Therefore, we should take this opportunity to lay to rest what grudges we can, and work together to aim higher than simply not blowing up the world."

Fair, literally everyone else have been though. My main point is that if we're alive is because the person who's united people who hate us openly treats his subordinates as tools, perhaps we should be making less people hate us.

Instead of speaking you simply wait for your peers to share their own thoughts. You don't have to wait long... if there's anything Captains can do, it's talk ENDLESSLY.

“It has long since become clear that the arrancar associated with Captain Kusajishi and the Ninth Division have no ill intents,” Captain Komamura begins, staring straight at Apacci. “However I cannot stress enough that this is clearly an exceptional case.”

“I must agree,” Byakuya nods solemnly. “Even to have found such a limited number of menos with anything approaching admirable qualities is extraordinary. We cannot expect any of the hollows who serve Aizen to share those characteristics.”

“We might always be wrong about that,” Shunsui muses quietly, “as we were about the first few. While I share your doubts, I wouldn't be willing to write them all off.”

“Riku did capture another few other arrancars,” Yoruichi reminds your fellow Captains. “Some of them have grown cooperative, but every arrancar I've faced has been a fanatic or a psychopath. It'd be nice to show mercy, but some of our enemies might reject it.”

“So it sounds like what we're settling on is leaving it to personal judgment?” Hitsugaya asks, raising a skeptical eyebrow. “While it's not a single 'policy' per se, it does make a certain amount of sense.”

“Only if we can all agree that there's precedence for arrancars being useful allies,” Unohana summarizes. “Does anyone disagree?”

Not a single Captain raises an objection to the notion.

“Then we will consider Tia Halibel, Coyote Starrk, Emilou Apacci, Cyan Sung-Sun, Franceska Mila Rose, and Lilynette Gingerback allies of the Gotei 13,” Shunsui decides with a resolute nod. “If any Captain deems an arrancar stable enough to work alongside us, initial recruitment should be at that Captain's discretion.”

“The other Captains should have a say,” Suì Fēng observes calmly. “Perhaps three Captains should be required to assent?”

“Not a bad measure,” Shunsui admits with a sagely stroke of his stubble. “And it fits what little precedent we've got to work with. Consider that the expected standard. Anyone opposed?”

You've gotten all you really felt you could expect out of this exchange, and Apacci seems to accept the proposal, so you voice no opposition.

“Very well,” Shunsui nods. “Consider that the new standard. Congratulations, Miss Apacci.”

“Thanks, I guess,” Apacci shrugs. “Took long enough... but it's good to know.”

“The real question is how these arrancar are to be overseen,” Kaoru adds thoughtfully. “Personally, I'd be fine just sticking them in the Ninth Division as specialists or something. Same as things have been.”

“We've got a whole Division with no Captain,” Zaraki observes. “Divvy them up and there you have it, their own unit.”

“I had assumed Lieutenant Matsumoto would succeed Captain Ukitake?” Hitsugaya asks in confusion. “And though I neither hate nor fear the arrancar, Central 46 would never agree to such a measure.”

“Speaking of the Central 46, Lieutenant Matsumoto will likely not be accepted as a Captain,” Byakuya sighs. “The Shiba family already has more Captains to its name than the other noble houses combined. Sadly, the political situation conspires against the logical first choice.”

“It's bullshit, but it's true,” Yoruichi agrees. “Even if we clan heads don't give a shit, our clansmen do. People would lose their shit if the daughter of an adopted Shiba is given a Division.”

“Sorry, Rangiku.”

“I didn't really want to be a Captain anyway,” Rangiku admits. “My position in the Ninth is too important to me. I'm sure there are plenty of other Lieutenants in the room who get me.”

She stares straight at Renji, who avoids her gaze with a scowl.

“There's nothing wrong with the arrangement Yamamoto condoned,” you insist quietly, glancing at your fellow Captains to assess their reactions. Komamura frowns, and Byakuya seems like he wants to say something but decides against it, so you continue. “They trust me, and I trust them, so I will continue to oversee the arrancar and I will be held accountable for their actions. However, I do have one suggestion: an outside observer. Someone trustworthy to the Gotei 13 and Central 46, who is otherwise unoccupied...”

“You mean Sasakibe, don't you?” Yoruichi smiles warmly. “Hey, that's actually a good idea. I don't think anyone's gonna try and say they disagree with you, least of all Sasakibe himself.”

“I see no issue with it,” Shunsui smiles as well. It's clear that he realizes you want to ensure Sasakibe continues to have a purpose, as a long time ago he helped you learn about the duties of a Lieutenant and you never really repaid him for his tutelage. “When Sasakibe has fully recovered I'll offer him the proposal.”

“We may also want to arrange formal cross-training exercises,” you suggest. “If we're gonna make this formal, get everyone used to the idea.”

“I can tell Captain Zaraki likes the idea,” Gin agrees with a sly grin. Sure enough, Kenpachi's practically salivating at the notion of getting to fight some arrancar on a regular basis.

Ichibē rises from a replacement chair that Momo quietly brought out for him, and opens his mouth to address the Captains' council before falling through the wooden floor up to his chest. He sighs heavily and seems to decide not to interrupt.

“Are you okay down there?” Gin asks innocently.

The Monk cocks his bushy eyebrow. “I'm starting to think someone in this room doesn't like me very much.”

“Nonsense,” Ōetsu smiles. “Everyone likes you.”

“So now that the question of arrancar seems settled, the next topic seems to be quincy,” Shunsui continues, looking to you. “Any insight, Miss Kusajishi?”

“The ones working for Aizen are mostly insane,” you recount, thinking back to Bambietta's explanation. “But as Urahara and I saw with Bambietta Basterbinne they're not beyond salvation. They may not like us, but some of them are decent people who have a legitimate mental illness.”

“Sounds as if we should endeavor to be discerning,” Unohana muses softly. “If they are suffering from an illness I cannot in good conscience recommend we simply kill them as a matter of course.”

“Not all of them are like Miss Basterbinne,” Ishida admits sternly. “From what I've heard some of them are too dangerous to try and help, with twisted and disturbing abilities. Others would kill without a thought even if they were not insane. Though Miss Basterbinne would request leniency for them...”

“Don't expect much?” you conclude the thought.

Ishida nods in agreement. "Precisely."

“So little faith in your own kind,” Suì Fēng mutters. “I'd have imagined you'd have more loyalty than that, given how few quincy remain.”

“Living quincy are another matter,” Ishida frowns, deliberately ignoring Ichigo's glare. Clearly your nephew doesn't like where this conversation is going. “The thousand year old holdouts from an order that nearly led our people to destruction are less of a concern for me than protecting those of 'my own kind' who are still living in the world. Hands off on the Quincies that are essentially not directly involved/in the frontlines in the upcoming battles (Misaki, Ryuuken, etc.)

Which leaves Uryu and Bambietta. I'm fine with this (>>556785) as a standard that they can work with, since Captains are also probably gonna bring up a point of contention for our Quincy contingent contributing. Especially so if they finish off any Arrancars Aizen will surely field.
>>
>>556785

So sensibly the safe bag limit is 0.

Unfortunately said question and answer got deleted because an anon got their ask.fm account banned from asking too many questions which is bullshit. However I do remember vaguely from Queen's ask.fm where someone asked him/her a question about why Aizen was bm/bullshitting during the fight if he had shinreiryoku.
The answer might not be precise but it goes along the lines of this:
The properties of one's shinreiryoku vary from person to person, depending on the soul who has that ability. Aizen's (stolen shinreiryoku ability) gave him the ability to fight with overwhelming pressure or something like that (he had more reiatsu in terms of quantity instead of quality and shinreiryoku acted like a force multiplier). While Riku/Tenkotsuki's was reiatsu suppression and an anti-spell casting field. It's hard to explain unless Queen decides to clarify what I said.
>>
>>556914
That's essentially correct, though Aizen did not display the unique properties of his shinreiryoku. It merely acted as a force multiplier, which is similar to how Riku's works when you ignore the unique suppression aspect.

“I say we treat 'em the same as arrancar,” Zaraki grumbles. “Fair's fair.”

“Speaking of mental illness,” Byakuya shoots back, glancing at his fellow Captain.”

“You tryin' ta pick a fight?”

“If I were I would be looking elsewhere.”

You stride across the room to pull the Monk out of the floor by his arms, carefully positioning him under a hanging ceiling lamp with a subtle wink to Rangiku. Yoruichi practically purrs to herself in anticipation.

“That's enough,” Ichibē insists sternly. “It is my belief that Zaraki is correct.”

The ceiling lamp, after a little cajoling from Haineko's ashes that have crept along the ceiling, comes crashing down onto the Monk's head. For several painfully long seconds not a single word is spoken, as everyone in the room is either trying not to acknowledge what happened or is suppressing their laughter.

“We should endeavor not to do anything to the living quincy,” you finally break the silence. “We have too many enemies already, and we're just now starting to branch out and make some allies for once. Let's not jeopardize that by holding the living accountable for our ancestor's disagreements.”

“They're living humans,” Yoruichi glares angrily at the Monk, the conversation having struck a familiar nerve. “Weird humans maybe, but living. Killing them in anything but pure self-defense is unacceptable. End of discussion.”

“Abso-fucking-lutely,” Apacci agrees with a derisive snort. “Listen to you clowns, who the hell gave you the right to kill a living human just cause you don't like 'em? Do that and you're no better than common hollow trash.”

“That's pretty harsh,” you mutter. “Maybe ease up a little?”

“If you insist, Lady Riku,” Apacci sighs, “but remember when you told me the truth can hurt?”

“She does have a point, Ichibē,” Shunsui nods in quiet agreement. “Quincy in the service of Aizen are to be handled the same as arrancar. Living quincy are to be left alone unless it can be proven they have committed a serious crime.”

The problem with them is that they could have powers that covers a broad spectrum from spiritual (gesture at Ichigo) to Hollow to Quincy, or even something remotely divine, and yet they're still living humans. They're out of our jurisdiction from where we stand as both Shimigami and as Royal Guard since our duty is towards the spiritually aware and the dead. Who will watch over them and keep them in line? “One last topic,” you continue, sparing Tatsuki a glance. “What about humans whose powers can't be classified as hollow, shinigami, or quincy?”

“Have you encountered such humans?” Shutara asks with a knowing look.

“Possibly.”

“The Vizards too for that matter,” Yoruichi adds.

Gin nods in quiet agreement. “They are something of an elephant in the room.”

“It's a matter for the Central 46,” Shunsui sighs, revealing some obvious frustration. “If it were up to me I would have them pardoned, but it's not up to me. I'll broach the subject when I meet them for the first time.”

“As for these humans of yours,” Ichibē replies solemnly, “I can shed some light on the matter. If they are not any of the above groups we cannot make any generalizations. They must all be treated case by case.”

“If only they used a zanpakuto, it'd be dead simple to work out,” Ōetsu muses, giving you a knowing smile.

Wait... that's not possible, right? The method Rukia used is one most shinigami are at least familiar with, but it has such a low success rate it's not really a useful technique even if it WEREN'T illegal. Urahara probably used the 'Shattered Shaft' technique to recover Ichigo's powers, which is just as dangerous in most cases and even more difficult to manage. You have no idea how you'd even begin doing it yourself.

But you HAVE forged a zanpakuto, you've imprinted on one naturally, and you've helped menos evolve into arrancar... so maybe it could be done?

“If I understand correctly they're not dead,” Kaoru replies thoughtfully. “Are you sure we want to go that far?”

“It would provide a sense of finality for their subordinates,” Byakuya replies in his characteristically guarded tone, “and that is important. Besides, there is no guarantee that they can be revived.”

“Would you really wish to provide the shinigami who are mourning for their loss with false hope?”

>Hope is a powerful thing. Hold off on the funerals for now, Shunsui.
>Closure is the first step in moving on. Let them indulge themselves this time.

I know that these have been kinda short, but there were several decisions to make and not much talking to go with it. Expect more meat fairly soon.

“They're not my Divisions,” you allow quietly, “but hope is a powerful thing, Shunsui. I'd seriously consider waiting until we're sure whether they can be revived or not.”

“She has a point,” Yoruichi agrees. “Strictly speaking they're not even dead.”

“I will speak with Miyako,” Kaoru offers. “See if she can get a feel for what Thirteenth needs to happen. Shunsui, you can do the same for First.”

“I suppose I may be getting ahead of myself,” Shunsui admits. “A decision for later. Bu for now I think we might be done. Ichibē, you and your cohort are free to pursue your own ends so long as you communicate your goals to me.”

“Well, time to get to work fixing my headquarters,” Gin sighs. “Lotta stuff got broken somehow. Weird, right?”

“Very peculiar,” Rangiku smirks. “I'll stay and help.”

After exchanging a few polite pleasantries, you leave the building. Apacci and Yoruichi head off in one direction, while you lead Ichigo and Tatsuki towards Ōetsu.

“So what's this about, Riku?” Ichigo asks suspiciously.

“I had an idea,” you explain quietly. “Of all the shinigami here, only one has forged her own zanpakuto, imprinted onto an asauchi, and helped an arrancar seal a portion of their soul into an asauchi all at once. And you're looking at her.”

“She HAS had an amazin' track record, given how little she knows,” the Sword God admits. “It's more like whatcha'd call an instinctive understandin', not an academic one. But it works.”

“And what does that have to do with us?” Ichigo persists. “What's this idea of yours?”

“I could help Tatsuki along by sealing her powers into a zanpakuto,” you continue. Ichigo's jaw goes slack. “I can't guarantee it of course, but there's no reason to think that she wouldn't share some characteristics with an arrancar.”

“And the chances that I'd survive?” Tatsuki asks. There's no fear there... but curiosity instead.

“Well, the methods Rukia and Urahara used on Ichigo don't have stellar survival rates,” you explain thoughtfully, “but this is something that's never been done to a living human. I have no idea what to even tell you aside from the fact that it's something I've done on hollows with great success.”

“The choice is totally in your hands. I won't think any less of you either way.”

“That's nuts!” your nephew insists loudly. “Tatsuki's not gonna...”

“I'm interested,” she interrupts.

“You WHAT!?”

“I'm not gonna come running to you to save my ass all the time, Ichigo!” Tatsuki snaps angrily. Uh-oh. You seem to have struck a real nerve with this topic.

You remain quiet as Tatsuki vents.

“I'm at a plateau, Ichigo,” she continues as Ichigo stands there flabbergasted at the outburst. “My powers are just too damn weird to understand how to use them right, and my reiatsu is weak as hell next to you... it's even lower than Chad's for crying out loud, and you left him in the dust even before we came here the first time!”

“That's not a problem...”

“Because you'll protect me? The hell is wrong with you, since when do I need your protection!?”

“Because it's my responsibility to protect Karakura town!” Ichigo insists loudly. “Dad can't do it and mom and Ishida's dad won't get involved if it's not a threat to our families, so I'm the only one left to do it!”

“And who's gonna look after you?” Tatsuki demands.

“What?”

“I asked who's gonna have your back!” Tatsuki repeats with a glare. “Come on, Ichigo, you keep barely squeaking through your fights. It's been that way ever since Byakuya! If Rukia and Riku aren't around and it's just us, someone needs to be strong enough to have your back. To help when you get in over your head for the fifty millionth time!”

“I get that you care about people, a LOT more than you let on, but don't you ever fucking forget that we care about you too, moron!”

“We?” Ichigo asks quietly.

“Your sisters, your parents, me, Chad, Rukia, our friends at school... hell, even Ishida!”

“So what if there's a risk!?” Tatsuki continues, whirling on her heel to face you again. “That doesn't bother me. What bothers me is not being strong enough to help my best friend when he needs me.”

You've got not only your friends here to support you, you've got the support of the Gotei 13 and Aunty Riku here as well pulling all the strings she can to pull of crazy plausible bullshit like this so you and your friends can better protect Kurakara town. Questions:
So who among the audience was amused to see the monk flounder about being the victim of a conga line of pranks?
Despite their mouth frothing rage, were our sword spirits appeased/amused from the pranking of the monk?
If the Monk was aware that he's being targeted as the sole victim of the pranking chain. Does he have any suspects or is he still in the Dark?
Did the pranks lighten the somber mood of the meeting?
Does Gin watch Looney Toons in his spare time? Because I bet he might've taken inspiration from bugs bunny.
Did Momo enjoy pulling pranks on the Monk?
Is Gin keeping the couch?
How is Apacci faring after being told the cosmic origins of Hollows? has she told the others?
So how much salt is being thrown around in the C-46 henhouse?
Overall how well did we do (since the Aizen Conspiracy to the Reigai Assault in Seireitei) from your QM's perspective?

●So who among the audience was amused to see the monk flounder about being the victim of a conga line of pranks?●

Who wasn't?

●Despite their mouth frothing rage, were our sword spirits appeased/amused from the pranking of the monk?●

Yes

●If the Monk was aware that he's being targeted as the sole victim of the pranking chain. Does he have any suspects or is he still in the Dark?●

He suspects us and our group.

●Did the pranks lighten the somber mood of the meeting?●

It helped a bit

●Does Gin watch Looney Toons in his spare time? Because I bet he might've taken inspiration from bugs bunny.●

We have no clue.

●Did Momo enjoy pulling pranks on the Monk?●

Yes

●Is Gin keeping the couch?●

Most likely

●How is Apacci faring after being told the cosmic origins of Hollows?●

She knew help it was a long shot to start with, so she isn't depressed or anything.

●has she told the others?●

Not yet

●So how much salt is being thrown around in the C-46 henhouse?●

Enough to name it salt city.

●Overall how well did we do (since the Aizen Conspiracy to the Reigai Assault in Seireitei) from your QM's perspective?●

I am not a QM in this quest but it can be summed up as "quite well".

>On your opposite side, a tear of pride wells up in Yoruichi's eye that she's forced to blink away.

I feel the same.
>>
>>558742
>So who among the audience was amused to see the monk flounder about being the victim of a conga line of pranks?
Mostly the predictable ones. Yoruichi got a kick out of it, Komamura found it strangely satisfying, Shunsui was trying to keep it together, and Byakuya found the third or fourth prank a bit much. Hitsugaya liked the idea, but felt it may have been the wrong time.
>Despite their mouth frothing rage, were our sword spirits appeased/amused from the pranking of the monk?
Definitely, but after learning what the Monk did it was mostly rage.
>If the Monk was aware that he's being targeted as the sole victim of the pranking chain. Does he have any suspects or is he still in the Dark?
He's aware, and he knows that Gin was doing it somehow. But he's trying not to dignify it with a response: which is exactly why Gin chose him.
>Did the pranks lighten the somber mood of the meeting?
They did a little, which is why even most of the Captains who found it in somewhat poor taste let it slide. Everyone handles stress in different ways.
>Does Gin watch Looney Toons in his spare time? Because I bet he might've taken inspiration from bugs bunny.
He lived through their first run, so yes. He's seen Looney Tunes.
>Did Momo enjoy pulling pranks on the Monk?
She understands why he does it now.
>Is Gin keeping the couch?
Was Bismarck a herring?
>How is Apacci faring after being told the cosmic origins of Hollows? has she told the others?
She's in the process of coming to terms. She's just learned that hollows are caused by a dead goddess' thirst for revenge against her husband. It's basically a divine marital spat that has nothing whatsoever to do with her, and the notion is honestly somewhat sickening. It'll also hurt to have to tell Tia that there's no way for them to fix the source of their shared problem.
>So how much salt is being thrown around in the C-46 henhouse?
How dare the Gotei 13 make decisions, that's our job! Harumph, harumph, harumph!
>Overall how well did we do (since the Aizen Conspiracy to the Reigai Assault in Seireitei) from your QM's perspective?
Well enough, though there were some tough decisions in there. You also could have gone after Aizen more immediately, even if everyone involved suspected that the Gotei 13 weren't ready neither was Aizen. It just would have been a lot messier all at once.

And from the QM perspective the loss of the single strongest shinigami alive means Aizen's plans have changed in a way I'm going to enjoy.

>>558305

>strongest shinigami alive
Ayo hol up, is that confirmed? There's some pretty heavy hitters in the Royal Guard, even if Kubo wasn't really allowed to show any of that off in canonland.
>>
>>560986
I'm pretty much ruling it so, at least in terms of a head to head matchup of combat ability. Yamamoto did not, however, get any reality hax or exotic powers: those fires won't burn as hot if I change their name, what if Wonderwiess here just absorbs them, congrats your haori is needles, etc.

The RG are there not because they're combat powerhouses, but because each of them did something that's incredibly broken and now uses that brokenness to ensure the world keeps spinning.
>>
>>560940
>And from the QM perspective the loss of the single strongest shinigami alive means Aizen's plans have changed in a way I'm going to enjoy.
So essentially what you're saying is either you're having Aizen still planning under the assumption that Yamamoto's still alive (which I'm also going to enjoy watching him squirm and try to pull an Improv Aizen when something doesn't go to keikaku) or Aizen has found out Yamamoto's kicked the bucket (which is bullshit and doesn't make sense from an IC standpoint of war since the femritters are basically volunteering as Aizen's 3rd scouting force and they're currently all locked up right now and haven't reported back to Aizen from their supposed "rescue attempt". So there's a delay in intelligence gathering in Aizen's army.)
>>
>>561409
There's probably a couple of snitches in soul society that have reported somethings to him
>>
>>561409
>implying Aizen didn't know about it the second it happened
>>

It would be dangerous to continue to underestimate Aizen's ability to collect basic intelligence. I won't reveal exactly how he knows, but there are plenty of possibilities that Riku could consider IC.

>How dare the Gotei 13 make decisions, that's our job! Harumph, harumph, harumph!
I'm sorry, are you the military branch of Seireitei that handles foreign affairs and active enforcement of the world's soul cycle otherwise known as the Gotei 13? No, you're the government branch that deals with domestic affairs of Seireitei and keeps the G-13 in line during peacetime otherwise known as the C-46. Is Seireitei currently in peacetime? No! We're currently at war! Who are we fighting We're currently at war with a pair of rogue captains who've marshaled up a coalition army of Hollows, Arrancar, and a holdover army of Quincys from the Great Quincy/Shimigami war with the intent of blowing up Seireitei and then the world! Do you want to save Seireitei and by extension the world? If yes, then shut up and let the G13 do their damn job!

So who's (IC) going to deliver the speech above in a more paraphrased and dignified manner if we do make the decision to tell the C-46 to stop throwing a bitchfit?

Huh, whaddaya know.

Hmm. Mimihagi broke a deal. Between that and Riku's ability to stand up to lesser divine beings, I feel like we could leverage Captain TB's life back. Provided we catch him. We probably have the technology we need to track him, and he really needs to be kept away from Aizen.

> Overall, Riku is still seen as a dangerous but more or less permanent fixture.
Finally the chickens are beginning to accept the fox's stay in the henhouse despite constantly shitting out eggs of salt whenever Riku does something of note.
> Shunsui has a lot on his plate right now: he gets the impression you'll be both a massive asset and a massive pain in the ass.
That impression you're getting Shunsui, is precisely how Yamamoto felt when he deals with Riku's eccentricities. But much of the pain is attributed to the fact that she's garnered a LOT of attention because of what she did and who she is through all 3 of her lives.
>Oetsu and Hikifune are your advocates among the Royal Guard. They think it's best to let you do as you will.
>Ichibē and Kirinji see any part-divinity as an existential threat, based on their previous experiences. That includes you.
>Shutara isn't sure what to think, as both sides have some merit. She's leaning in your favor though.
This certainly says much about how much of a headache Riku gives them when they're essentially the Divinity Police and Riku's a law abiding citizen despite being half-divine.

I wonder, could Mirai be the person who fired the arrow that killed Tamamo no Mae? Or at least related in some way.

anon, pls. Read carefully:
>“Her death was not my decision to make,” the Monk explains calmly, “but yes. I supplied the projectile in question to the hunters Miura no Suke and Kazusa no Suke.
Tamamo no mae was killed by the hunters, not Mirai despite the uncanny resemblance. I would make much more sense if Mirai's sword is based off of Ho yi's bow or something like that since it slew 8 of the divine emperor's 9 children in china.

Well shit. All of the problems other pantheons had to deal with and all the questions raised asking "why Hollows?" and "Why does Japan have a monopoly on the world's reishi assets?" And the answer is simply boiled down to "It's Japan's fault" (a.k.a. Blame Izanagi and Izanami no Mikoto).

When word gets out to the other pantheons by Riku (as the unofficial ambassador of the Seireitei and representing the Shinto pantheon) bearing the news, how much salt will the other divine gods throw around? And is there any rules regarding inter-divine-pantheon arguments? Because I can imagine the Greco-Roman pantheon pointing fingers at Izanagi and calling him out for being a terrible god/father/husband (which would be hypocritical for Zeus in particular)

>Tamamo no mae was killed by the hunters
Well, yeah, I was thinking that Mirai was one of the hunters when she was alive.

That said, your idea makes more sense.

Okay, we're still on page 5. This is ridiculous.

Certainly Tenkotsuki hasn't overlooked the similarities there.

If and when the news gets out there WILL be salt. Because for real, something in Japan really messed with the entire world.

Not even autosage yet.

Are there any unexpected changes to various pantheons? Like, I dunno, someone shanked Ra back in the 60s, or Minerva and Athena were totally not the same people, something along those lines.

Just archive the thread already. I mean otherwise is just filler. Is not like we are doing much with this thread anyway. I mean if you really really need to fill it, copy paste the info of the latest docs or something.

Maybe post the official profile Aizen has on miss "Savant" so far?

Actually, it has been for 49 hours anon. That's why it's on page 5. Permasage kicks in after 72 hours.

And that would be telling.

Thread's archived already, and I can't actually delete the OP. So it's become a waiting game.

Weird, my 4chanx isn't showing it.

Check the options in Settings, there is one to show the thread stadistics. Also it might be your add blocker fault or you might have blocked javascript.
