You are Purps; an amnesiac starborn. Things have been pretty hectic since you woke up on a random hill - thus far you have killed a midget rebel, had a dance off with a foxman, went undercover with your new friend to find who mugged your new boss, had a weird dream, fought a crazy cannibal priest, died, came back at the cost of some memories and emotions, killed the cannibal priest who killed you, leading up to your current predicament,

"How did it go?" You ask her, scratching some dried blood of what remains of your shirt.

"Well she's done what she can... but we had to try something a little different with her eye dear, not much we could do..."

"Which was?"

"We smeared the insides of the wound with a plant that paralyses you. We turned it into a cream, but it means so long asthe wound stays covered it wont get worse." She seems distraught that they couldn't do anything, the skinny old herbalist making a sign you think is regligious. Though Minerva's knowledge doesn't help you identify it.

"So you bought us time. For Lexington?" You ask.

"We bought you two time to get her somewhere else. Somewhere that can do more." She shrugs "I don't know who or what, but if anyone will it's that boss of yours."

"Thank you, for everything." You reply.

"She's like a daughter to us pet. Even if she hadn't helped save this town we'd have tried our best." she sniffs, "Maybe if she leaves with you two she'll find somewhere she's accepted."

"Could you explain your idea to the Doctor please, Muriel?2 You ask, "I need to find out where Tornin went."

He did after all get cloberred with rubble and almost buried in that rubble, if not for your interference he might not even be drawing breath.

You find him hobbling along the market street, his leg most likely broken, he is using his rifle as a crutch. You're around thirty feet behind him when he spins, dropping into a firing stance despite his body screaming in agony. You see obvious pain in his figure even as he aims down his sights.

You are prepared to leap to a roof when he growls and lowers his aim. "I don't need your pity. I'm fine. Thanks." It sounds like even that was a fight to get out of him.

Also he might be more useful to this town than us sidre everyone seems to like him. Also i thought no-one knew we were starborn, I would think they would comment on our turning into a buzzsaw.

I've been here since the start. I also rolled that 1 that killed us...

Writing.

Everyone bolted when Hona got taken out. Purps was not in the right state of mind to notice.
>>
"I wanted to thank you for what you did. You didn't have to help Hona, but you did." You inhale as you're not sure how this next part will go. "I also know you want to leave Grinnsmon. So I came to offer you the chance to come with us."

"Why would I go with you? I have a life here." He says quietly while pulling himself up a wall, " A job i'm good at, a place to live - family."

"I didn't mean to be rude. Only to offer. If you talk to your father and change your mind. We will be at the gate for another hour or two." Your deadpan voice sounds startlingly sincere sometimes. But to Tornin you're sure it would sound mocking were it not for you hinting that you'd discussed things with his father.

He might come with you, he might not. But you've tried to reward him for helping Hona; that's what a good person would do right?

You guys left it by a stable, with other wagons. Since yours is a Wizard powered TARDIS one, you didn't actually have horses to stable. So Lex pretty much parked a cabin next to a stable and has a priceless magical artifact blending in with shitty farmers wagons.

You start walking into town, intent on finding transportation. You're probably capable of moving Honamurei for a few days- she's light and you're a starborn. But putting her on the ground while you went to the bathroom or set up camp or had to fight like you inevitably will would probably not be great.

You don't even know if she's going to be conscious or not.

You find yourself at a wagon depot attached to a stables.

You almost roll your eyes at the name, Lucky's Depot might be the stupidest name for a business you've ever -

"You Purps Firefly?" A sideburned man asks, your eyes inevitably drawn to his rather impressive hat.

You move in step behind him and to the side so he can lead the way, deftly avoiding the raised arm. "That is an interesting hat." You say to try and distract him.

"Y'think? I always thought Pappy was crazy when he gave me this thing. He were as tall as any of these wagons and as broad as the barn, but he insisted he did." He starts leading you past a a few wagons left behind or still here from the festival of fire. "But it means the world havin' a pretty lady like yourself say it's great. But where ar my manners ma'aam, heres Doc's wagon!" He offers you help up but you deign to just hop up the lip into the cabin part where that big box from the market is surrounded by two smaller ones. "I didn't know you had some fancy wagon when I were carrying your stuff in. That's why I had to make sure you were oyu before leading ya - don't worry. Lucky'll keep his mouth shut about your super wagon and be on his way, once y'all pay your toll."

"Thank for your help Lucky. You say as you hand him the gold. The guy blushes and tips his hat to you. "You and the doc don't be strangers y'hear? That fella knows his way around some tobacco and I reckon I'd want to see you again Miss Firefly."

You give him a polite incline of the head and hand him 20gp, leaving you with 455gp. He heads back to his little spot by the entrance, leaving you to shrug off the reamins of your Anna disguise. Throwing the shredded sweater vest, shirt and skirt out the opening in the back of the cabin.

You stand there naked as the day you were born in the cabin; knowing nobody can see in. You hurry and wash yourself, using the impossible bucket that is always full with steaming hot water.

Your old purple outfit feels amazing with the touch ups, the new emblem standing out on it's white patch. You feel like a badass having your own sigil.

You go to the front of the wagon where horses would normally be lashed and find nothing. No enchanted stuff, no nothing. Just a harness for an animal that can be adjusted to size.

You realize what's coming and slip into the harness. Gritting your teeth you begin to drag a jam packed cabin that thankfully only weighs the same as a full wagon towards the gate where your allies are.

> Roll 1d20 for how sucessful you are pulling this.

As you are pulling the wagon trhoguhout town, you notice the towns people looking at you with a mix of fondness and sadness. Some wave at you as you go while others just look terrified of you.

You notice that the guard whisper about you and look at you with slightly hostile intent.

You think you were beginning to pull together alife of your own here, that maybe one day you could understand what Tornin meant about not being able to walk away - but right now Hona needs you. She needs you to make up for the fact you failed to watch her back.

You don't really get very far with the wagon. You're really lost in thought.
[ EMOTION GAINED: PRIDE ]
That guy, Mr Black. You wish you'd taken him on from the start. That way while you were on your trip to see The Dealer Hona could have backstabbed him. Then when you came back everything would have been fine.

Plus if Hona had watched your back he wouldn't have been able to burrow snipe you like he did. Hell if you'd watched Hona's back instead of being distracted by Tornin she'd probably have skewered him like one of the festival foods.

You feel a slight burning in your hands when you resolve to be the first one to take on any challenges in future; but one you've resolved that train of thought you realize your whole body is burning in actual pain instead of spiritual resolution.

Thankfully you're coming up on the square, though it took almost an hour. It's already afternoon; if you want to make some distance in the afternoon and prevening you guys will have to get your shit together.

You slowly wheel the wagon close to the party

You approach Doctor Lexington with a thin layer of sweat across your whole body, he has a cigarette in his mouth and you notice Gretchen and Muriel are standing over Hona. You think they're saying goodbye, wishing her luck and all that.

Lexington offers you a cigarette, which you take gratefully. As you murmur thanks he lights you with a click of his fingers.

You exhale in a cloud.

"How do you move that damn thing?" You moan in your monotone.

"Fuck do you mean, same way I do everything - magic. I'm an old ass wizard Purps. We're so lazy it's downright genius." He nods sagely while you scracth your ear.

"Muriel filled you in?" You ask.

"Yup. Two options, tech or magic. Which means I go back to the academy and do some archive hunting while your friend gets filled with more magic than a unicorns cock. Or we go to the capital and you do favours for whoever has the clout to get her a artifical eye." He smokes some more while looking at you.

"I don't remember anything about you besides what I've been told." You admit under his gaze.

"Well we didn't know each other long. I'm ex Republic, scholar, spy, historian. I'm Starborn and a Wizard. I keep you fed and employed so long as you protect me and travel with me while letting me write your story down." He shrugs "We've both fucked our job up. But you," he wves his cigarette at you,"Now have a coat of arms, several new emotions AND have titled her. You have a lot of explaining to do and we're burning what's left of today.

He hops into the dirvers seat and the wagon rolls towards the gate, "So get you and your friend's skinny asses onto this wagon."

You curse under your breath as you scoop up Hona, she's almost as light as a feather and snuggles up against you in her sleep.

You nod at the Herbalist and Witch, not knwoing what to say. Muriel surprises you by speaking; "Take care of her or I'll have Gretch curse you." She has watery eyes despite the smile.

The witch is already walking towards her tiny grass hill house.

As you walk to the Wagon-Cabin. You think about your destination and that is

>Hexagon; Academy
You mean pentagon, yeah? Or have I gone blind?

I'd like to know a bit more about either option before I commit to one. Are they both functionally identical or do they have distinct pros and cons?
Can Hona be chuuni if she gets a special magic eye?
Is Hona gonna wake up anytime soon? Because I imagine she'd want some input as to what we're shoving into her eyesocket
>>
>>567880

IC you have no idea on any of those questions.

OOC: Lexigton implied the Tech option involves you being a councilman's person black ops.
Academy might take more time, but it gives Lex resources to research it himself and acess to the strongest magic users in the Republic.

Hona will be awake, but again IC you don't know.
>>
>>567810
>> Academy; Magic eye.
>>
>>567810
That is a tough choice. As I see it
Pros:
Capital: mech-eye is more badass than some magic shit, more murdering
Academy: looks like we will learn more, Hona will probably like magic eye better (I think?)
Cons
Capital: ass kissing (which we are bad at) and probably irrelevant side quests
Academy: requires subtlety, not our best talent

Sooo I'll vote for
> Academy
For Hona and tuition, even though it sounds like the capital will be more fun.

>>567834

>>568225
Map was made in paint in 15 minutes haha, I have skills in all aspects of media except graphic design. This was to get in my head where everything in this region was, but I decided - fuck it. It'll do.

As of right now; we're leaving through the North gate Heading West. Passing Through Harlindon.

Route 1: We can either go North through the Garrison or West through the Forrest. On the other side of the forrest we'll pass the High Forts. Before heading North across the Bassilisk Bridge.

Route 2: If we head North; we go through a Garrison, then reach the trade city of Bennorack before heading West - through a tiny forrest which takes us to Mido. From Mido we go South to Reach the academy.

If we go to capital; assume the same route as route 2, but we leave Mido from the West to go to the capital.
>>
>>567810
Academy

Be careful when you point your mouse at a MSPaint program or you'll puncture your screen. As you said, it'll do.

>>569988
Would Lexington kenow if there's a likelier chance for rebels in either route?

I'd suggest avoiding bridges that close to High Forts. Both routes seem roughly the same distance.

>Route 3. We take the "scenic route". Instead of passing through Harlindon, we head North-East, get around the Mountains/Cliffs go full West towards Bennorack, then Mido, then South to the Academy.

Roughly the same distance (I measured), avoiding both the Forest and anywhere nearby a Garrison or the Wildlands. It'd be easier that way, pushing past (or going around) cities and resting in villages, therefore the cities won't slow us down.

"Let's go to the academy. It's probably best that we don't get involved with the council." You say, not so eager to dirty your hands on the whim of some corrupt politician.

"Alright. So I'm thinking we got two ways we can go." Lex says as the cracked and warped gate swings open in front of the wagon, "We have to go through Harlindon either way, but Route 1 takes us West through the Forrest. On the other side of that forrest we'll pass the High Forts. Then we finish up by heading North across the Bassilisk Bridge right into the fucking academy grounds." He takes a drag from his cigarette and looks over his shoulder to make sure Hona is still resting on the couch.

"Or we head North; we;d need to go through a Garrison, but then we'd reach the trade city of Bennorack before heading West - through Mido Forrest which takes us to Mido proper. From Mido we follow the Southern road to reach the academy from the North." He scratched his head, "About fourteen days each way. So it's your call Purps. I'm not fussed as I think we can handle or bullshit our way anywhere."

"Why don't we avoid going through the centre at all?" Lexington looks at yu skeptically. "Give me a map." He points at a random pigeonhole amongst the clutter on a desk numbered 7. Indeed you find maps of each region of Munis. You don't know how up to date they are, since you don't know the date and all.

You stop as you realise you're suggesting a route with little to no memory of if you've ever travelled it. Hell this is the first itme you remember looking at a map. You bring the map back to Lex's seat and unroll it between you, "We should go North East around these mountains, because then it's a straight shot West to Mido before heading South to the academy." You swear your hands flicker purple for a second when Lex looks impressed. You can't help but be proud of surprising the old bastard.

"Fuck that'd work great." He says breathlessly, "We'd avoid Harlindon and Bennorack isn't even that corrupt of a Loyalist Mayor." He puts his hand on your head and ruffles it your hair and you look over to Hona and can't help but wish you were where she was right now instead.

[JEALOUSY UNLOCKED] (adding it to CS in a minute)

You grumble to yourself.

"Now then why don't we talk about that shitshow in the village." He cheerfully asks, "How's about, how the hell did you title Honamurei?"

You look at him blankly, "I did what?"

He sighs and takes off his glasses, looking to age countless years as he rubs the bridge of his nose. You notice his eyes glow without his glasses. "There a thing we can do as Starborn. But you need to be at least five hundred years old. Plus Senator massively restricts whoever's old enough to do it...." He gathers himself for a minute.

"By using a nickname, powerful enough Starborn can tear fate a new pisshole. When you called her a [NIMBLE SONGBIRD] you titled her. Which... well not even I know what it's done." HE looks at you warily, "It's why you'll notice I didn't call you [FIREFLY] unlike..." His mouth opens and his cigarette falls to the firt path as he realizes what he's done.

You feel something slam into your chest robbing the air from your lungs as Lex looks dizzy. [TITLE GAINED: FIREFLY] you both try to gather yourself, as LEx simply says; "Shit."

"Well fate must be a little bitch if we fucked her that hard." You say after a second.

A long wheezing chuckle comes from your companion, he's trying to steady himself as he continues. "Great. Now we're both guilty of it." He smirks and shakes his head.

"So what you're saying is that I'm at least 500 years old." You deadpan.

"Yet you're one of the lucky Starborn who look like they're in their mid 20s. Maybe you'll end up like me and suddenly ages 40 fucking years once you turn 800. But yes. You must be over 500 years old."

You process this. Bitting your inner gum a little. "So you don't think there's much chance of running into my mother or father?"

"Or if you've had any children." He looks totally solemn, you think this is personal experience. "Starborn isn't genetic. If you had any kids, they're as dead as can be. It's probably good you don't remember anything Purps."

"You know I do have one memory from before I woke up." You offer and his attention returns to you, "I was a little girl. I had this giant poofy dress, like a princess or something. An adult was calling for me to do lessons or something, so I went to my favourite tree." You take a draw from the cigarette you'd held on to for the past twnety minutes, completely forgotten. "I guess something was different that day, instead of climbing I just walked right up to it - right to the very tip." You shake your head, "That was the first time I used my enigma."

"Mine was when I was looking at a girl I liked. Found out she was into scholarly types." He offers with a happy sigh. "She was rather dispaointing when I eventually got my hands on her, heh." He laughs and takes a draw.

Right now 1) Academy

2) Republic/titles.
>>
"So this academy..." You begin.

"It's where all the bastard childs of corrupt councilmen and whore nobles have always went. It teaches everything. Useless to necesarry. Magic, War, Governance, Diplomacy. The Academy is the best thing to come out of the corelands."

You must look completely lost.

"The corelands is the area that has always belonged to Munis. The nobles and Kings and Queens of Munis established an academy which everyone who showed promise could be taught in any area. Except the fucking nobles bought their way in and tried to keep regular folks out." He looks angry, "I digress, but in short, it's where everyone who's anybody goes to become who they are. A few of them might even be granted titles by the Senator." He finishes.

He shakes his head; "This continent was home to dozens of petty kings, dreadful tyrants and bandit lords dreaming of unification. But it was the Munisian Kingdom which stretched coast to coast." He spat off the side of the wagon, "In fact the rebellion came about after the last war of Munisian conquest. The heroes of the Cadalon War looked at the Republic and saw it for the fucking nest of rot that it is."

"so the people who made Munis as strong as it was now fight against it?"

"Exactly. The leaders slaughtered countless Cadalon warriors in the fields of battle, I'm sure both sides committed horrid atrocities. But now they stand shoulder to shoulder in resistance." He sighs. "But the founding of the republic and the moving away from a monarchy is a bit taboo. What the academy has to tell you is a lot different than form what actually happened."

"Then how do you know?" You ask,

"Because I wrote the only autobiography of The Senator before I retired. He tried to wipe it from my mind... but I didn't claw my way up to where I was through ineptitude."

You go silent for a long time, thinking on what you've learned. You are suitably overwhlemed by the importance of the man sitting next to you. "So how was the republic of Munis founded?"

His face is grim. "By massacre." There's nu humour or vulgar language as he continues, "The senator confessed to me he was a noble, though he has told nobody else and had me expunge all records of his house from the royal archives once the biography was written. Not even I could find out what he had me write unless I get my hands on that book. But I managed to use my magic to hold on to some details. He's sweating and the wagon starts to move forward in stutters as his emotional state fluctuates. "He killed them. He hated nobles, the corruption it invited, the abandonment of the common. He invited them to his estate and murdered them all. Including his family, not a single noble survived." He takes a flask from his inside pocket and drinks deeply.

He is silent for a long time, "There was no poison or slitting of throats. HE took on every noble man, woman and child single handed. Their bodyguards, sworn swords, he took them on alone. He painted his estate red with the ruling class of Munis. He then invited the heads of Army, major religions, mayors and anyone else fo import to his home. Where he welcomed them and laid the groundwork of a new system."

He explains that each city or town has a Captain, picked by the Senator. Each Captain is usually a Starborn and every captain must take an attendant.
Captains may stand for mayors but if outvoted are outvoted. Captains have a vote on major issues in the Capital as do Mayors.
A Cpt-Mayor has two votes.
Other members of the council consist of Ministers, Merchants, Prestigious Military officers and others of influence.
Nothing is determined by blood.

"But influence results in a new ruling class functionally the same. It's an illusion of equality." He nods solemnly. "Whilst every so often someone like me will come along, Captains choose their attendants who usually replace them."

"So the corruption the rebels are talking about."

"Is the same one the Senator purged. Poetic if it weren't innocents caught up in it". He smokes, shielding his eye as the first sun sets. It's pre-vening now. You have time for maybe one more topic before you need to stop to cook.

"The Senator has a memory wipe?" You ask as you get down and walk alongside the wagon. Your legs complaining from the lack of action. You spool and unspool your buzzsaw, making sure it's still sharp and well maintained.

"Yeah, I'm not too sure how the fucker does it. I didn't pick up on it until I witnessed it actually happening in front of me." His face is a mess of creased lines. "It wasn't an enigma and it wasn't a spell. The Senator is bullshit even in the world of Starborn. Rebels always called him a demon... When he tried to wipe me I admit I gave some credence to that fucking idiocy."

You open your mouth to speak, to press more about the Senator's seeming bullshit powers when an owl lands on your head. Before you can even react to Smug Fuck, a man standing in emmaculate and intricate amrour appears before the wgaon. Causing Lexington to jar it to a stop.

"Hoo" Smug Fuck announces at it looks down at you.

"By the look on your face Master I'm sure your Firefly here didn't tell you I was coming." Looking up you see what looks like a storybook night trying to hide exhaustion despite a red face and shaking hands.

Despite this a glittering grin decorates his face. He offers his gauntlet in a handshake to you once his owl vacates your hair; "Captain-Mayor Matthieu Remy. A pleasure to finally meet you in person."

You are very hard to flap. Flapless would be a good title for you for you are utterly unflappable. Nevermind one of the strongest fighters in the Republic just appeared in front of you; you have words for him, "Your owl. Is a Smug Fuck." You tell him during your handshake.

He laughs, it's loud but not unpleasant. You narrowly reisst the urge to shush him, "She's not smug she just knows how good a girl she is! Seriously not many familiars can teach someone to cook."

You ignore but catalog his insults for retaliation at a later date. Your pride unable to see the humour in that situation at this moment. "And what did he mean Master, Lex?" You throw at your boss who has retreated into the wagon to make tea.

You only now notice a young child of maybe ten years old climbing off Matthieu's armoured back. "I used to teach the bas..." he reigns in his language at a pleading look from the captain, "..fool when he was younger." The kid is dusting his fancy clothes down and looking around whilst Lex talks; "Meet my former Attendant and now Captain in his own right; [Matthieu, The Little Owl]" He bows to you as your Boss prepares that tea.

You decide that you should probably start cooking now, since you now have guests and Hona is starting to mumble and stir in her sleep. You oddly find yourself pondering whether the child will eat Porfin meat.
