You are Subject 108—"Whirlpool", sent with advanced technologies to fetch water for an isolationist civilization (on Earth, mind you). However you ignored the objective in favor of having your own adventure and you stumbled into exactly that on Cymbio IV. Since your arrival you've done nothing but wade deeper into the plot that seems to uncover the conspiracies behind the luxurious establishment of Resorcinol and the history of the "tribespeople" nearby.

After the rather-crude dinner, the group begins the assault on Petroleum's indoor hideout—a bunker-like mansion in the middle of his own district. Resistance was fierce and neither side was willing to budge. Only through clever application of the resources at hand were you able to break through the defenses. The enemy tried deploying aggression-inducing gas as a trump card but all it did was encourage your melee attackers to massacre their numbers. Eventually they were whittled down at the cost of exhausting half your team. Luckily reinforcements arrived to help secure the outside perimeter but there's still the matter of the indoors environment, still rife with struggle as evidenced by a maid fighting against another management personnel.

>"I know what you can do so don't think about trying. I've got turrets ready to perforate you, not saying where."

With a more physical approach out of the question, you try an...unorthodox idea. Feeling a bit devious you place your hands on Gertude's shoulders.

>"Whirl, what're you d- HNGAAH!!"

In two swift movements, you pull down her jacket and pull up her wet shirt for a surprise present to Grant. She looks pretty scrawny without her jacket, such skinny arms.

Flustered and annoyed, the aspirant hastily pulls down her shirt, crosses her arms over her chest, and leans away from you. While the man behind the camera just makes some remarks.

>"Whew laddette, don't you know even small breasts need bras?"

With his attention very perked up, you hear him out for whatever he has to say.

>"Heh, that was really wild of you, whoever you are. You too, Gertude. You're sorta awkwardly cute when you're flustered. Or is it because you're clinging to your old heterosexuality?"

The aspirant stays silent, either because she's upset or she's getting too sleepy to focus.

>"Lemme guess, you're here for Petroleum? He's at the very center of this dungeon, obviously, but should buzz off for now or I deploy actual battle drones against you. Unless you're willing to make it worth my while. Maybe bring a few more friends over, like that girl you hang out with. How about that? The maids were getting boring anyway."

That sounded pretty obnoxious. You burn the camera to show him you mean business. The aspirant has some concerns.

>"You know he can still activate whatever's in this room...if there is any."

You tell her if that's true, he would've done it by now. You hear Grant's voice again, there is probably other speakers in this room.

>"What? So I guess that's a no? Or is that a yes? It's hard to tell. Whatever, I'll see you later anyway so you have plenty of time to make up your mind."

--

Meanwhile, Elisabeth is soundly resting by herself, on a table, in public, with a potted flower on top of her.

>Because reasons, the side effects of Nicotine's hormones kick in and incapacitate Karina for the time being, in a lewd fashion, having her taken back to recover. Meanwhile, apologize to Gertude, saying you "really wanted to" and that you will try to remain professional for the remainder of the mission. You then proceed on to the next room, with another mini boss awaiting you.

Karina remains standing idly, unaffected by the pheromones due to air diffusion. She gets called over to help with cleaning the place up.

Meanwhile, you and Gertude are still inside the structure, looking for Petroleum or Grant. You sincerely apologize to the aspirant for your earlier behavior, explaining your whims and promising to be better in the future.

>"It's fine...I think. I'm not used to be on the receiving end of lewds but I could use a hug though."

Meanwhile, Karina remains standing idle outside, maybe the pheromones didn't reach her. She gets called to help out in miscellaneous matters.

>Nicotine: be teasing caffeine and aspirin to take the edge off the day's bloodshed.
>You know exactly what kind of teasing this means.
>Heck, maybe you could even give your spinner a go. How does that thing work again?

For the duration of this segment, you are Nicotine—head of the Red Light District. You withdraw your SPINNER from your inventory. This little trinket here's got four colors and the arrow at the center chooses which one. You normally use it in gambling but it's a bit fun to just flick it every once in a while.

You turn your attention to Aspirin and Caffeine, who are tending to the wounded. Those two could be a potential item, and you feel like pulling some strings to see how it goes. You ask them what they feel about each other.

>"Nope, no feelings of aggression at all, in case you're thinking about the gas. I appreciate your concern"

>"Same here, I made sure to hold my breath when I was picking everyone up. Oof, you're all heavy by the way."

That was disappointing, maybe you should try playing cupid after this whole shebang. After all, the head doctor can peer into your noggin...but maybe that's an advantage. Before you depart you tell the future lovebirds they would make a wonderful couple. You imagine a sickeningly-sweet image of their possible marriage just to seal the deal. Afterwards you walk away, savoring the shocked look on their faces.

>Elisabeth awakes from her slumber and comes back for round two vs big guy; helps the duo get further in and joins the party

The head maid suddenly rises from her slumber and moves back into the structure despite the medics protesting otherwise. She's not gonna let Grant get away with this further bullshit, especially with how he treated her.

After some hustling, she catches up to both of you—moments away from turning a corner.

As the action unfolds, Elisabeth retreats behind the scenes.

Still wielding your RIOT GUN-TONFAS, you pepper away at his kneecaps. However, it seems to have little effect other than distracting him. You try to take advantage of the opportunity by switching to your BREACHING HARPOON and going to his face.

>"So you're the one who is ruining my sandbox!"

Your opponent counterattacks, smacking your harpoon away and pummeling you in short order. Despite having maximum mobility he found a good opportunity while you were mid-air and dealt you some serious hits. Before he pounds your face in, Elisabeth emerges from out of nowhere, brandishing an assault rifle. It doesn't immediately perforate him but at least you're not the sole focus of his anger.

>"Are you insane!?"

Sort of. You promise that you'll do everything to keep him busy at all costs and insist that the cat-eared helmet lady be rescued pronto. You? You have other plans. After all, you did promise to 1v1 the next asshat to serve himself on a platter and you've been meaning to get coolness points.

As she was being carried (or dragged) away to safety, Whirlpool unleashes her REPAIR POD right from her inventory. Holy shit! Where does she get all these toys? Despite its stylishness, your gun's single-shot nature is really biting you in the ass in such a critical time. You obviously don't have time to reload so in desperation you switch your grip and wield it like a small club. Shit, you feel nervous at having to do this for realsies.

Your efforts seem to be moot as he just closed the distance and swatted your weapon away. He then follows up with a knee to your gut, leaving you winded. Holy fuck. That. STINGS.

And that was just the entree. He proceeds to beat you up like a vicious thug, at least he's not some commando who will physically dismantle you with the power of CQC. You hope you can keep it together for a little bit longer.

Several blows in, you feel the sensation of bleeding accompanied by throbbing pain. Ouch. You haven't felt that horrid sensation in a long while. All this hurt is giving you a good wakeup call. Another concussion, blurring your vision monetarily. As you feel your grip on life slipping away, time seems to dilate. Maybe that's life's way of giving the dying one last chance for introspection. You could use the thinking space. You guess there's more to adventure than you thought, you didn't really have a taste of the risks until now. Look at Karina and Vector, they seem to know their stuff when it comes to the real thing. Props to Whirlpool, too. She did a good job avoiding death all while rallying against Petroleum. Speaking of Petroleum, could this guy be it? He does match the description after all, or maybe he's just some robot super-soldier as his trump card.

You find yourself on the floor after eating a nasty elbow strike. He places his foot on you, mumbling something you can't make out. That's enough, whoever this guy is, you're not going to take this any longer. If you're going down, he'll have to keep you down. You tap into a murky wellspring deep within your subconsious, digging deep and digging hard. He kicks you away when you start lashing out with renewed vigor. The fiery words of a long-deceased motivational speaker float into your mind.

It's time to put that resilient obsession of yours to good use and activate your METEO GAMBIT: Revenant of Tirad Pass.

Meanwhile a female janitor is outside the structure, cleaning up after the mess of blood and body parts. The carnage only serves to stress her further since she was supposed to be asleep on her break. Too bad, here she is anyway. Ugh, midnight cleaning is such a bother especially with all of this debris. She better get a raise for this.

She sighs wistfully then looks around to spot a housemaid dragging some cat-helmet-wearing girl away from the carnage. Shortly after she hears a blood-curdling shriek, something that sounds a giant mutant panther's roar mixed with a werewolf's howl. She puts two and two together and assumes that the former is a result of whatever is causing the latter.

She uses her mop's SLICK LUBRICATION to quickly transport herself over to the possible source of the commotion. There she witnesses a brutal clash between an android and some woman who's too stubborn to quit. The latter is barely standing but soldiers on despite her injuries. The former tries to ask for assistance.

>"Hey you! Get this crazy bitch off of my trail!"

The janitor's not sure if she should do anything or not.

Despite the unbridled will to survive, Gertude retains enough sense to recall the water vial Whirlpool gave her and flings it at her opponent.

>"(foreign language swearing)!!!"

He nonchalantly hits it mid-air, spilling its contents by his feet.

>"Really? A vial of water? You think I'm not waterproof?"

Meanwhile, you're picking up another puddle to use as an entry point. You're feeling shaken from the earlier beatdown but you're not out just yet. You break one of your remaining vials to create a puddle and prepare your SPATIAL TRANSPORT. As you jump in through the puddle portal, Elisabeth follows suit right behind you!

>"I can't let go face him again by yourself!"

You don't know how much power your suit has left, but your activate your KRAKEN'S BEAK once more during the transition. You emerge from the other side with your drill hand raised—hitting him right in the face! His head shatters from the piercing impact and debris scatter everywhere.

Strangely enough he is still standing (shakily) despite the apparent lack of a head. Elisabeth puts a few holes in him just to knock him down.

In a fit of panic she throws an experimental CLEANING GRENADE designed to wash an entire area with sudsy bubbles and slippery foam. You use your SPATIAL TRANSPORT abilities to bring Gertude to safety but it seems your SUIT is running low on POWER. If it runs out, you lose all your abilities and you'd be very encumbered.

Outside the scene, Errai has just spilled a small puddle right near her. She is worried about you and hopes for your safety. She ponders if she could play a more significant role in this conflict, but maybe it's for the best that she stayed away from the action. Perhaps being your emotional rapport should be enough for the time being.

>"Whirlpool?"

The puddle glows with the interaction of spatial manipulation...yet she is greeted with an exhausted Gertude. She feels disappointment and worry that Whirlpool has yet to return, but she dismisses the selfish notions. Instead, she scurries off to fetch the aspirant some medical attention.

Meanwhile the janitor runs shakily makes her way out of the structure, trying to avoid slipping on the wet floor like so many civilians. Although the CLEANING GRENADE she used was experimental, she can request for more at the staff lounge somewhere below. Maybe the tinkerers can make newer, better ones with less chances of collateral cleaning. But first she has to actually get out of here and maybe find a good change of clothes. It's hard to do stuff when you're one misstep away from slipping.

You stand up, with mild difficulty, and make your way towards the REPAIR MODULE you left earlier. You also pick up the broken robot body that, presumably, belongs to Petroleum. Apart from the missing head and bullet holes, it is mostly intact. It doesn't hold any special technology that could upgrade your SPATIAL DISTORTION so naturally the metal scraps are going straight to your DAMAGE RESISTANCE. Managing your resources very carefully, you narrowly avoid dropping your EXCELLENT MOBILITY to Above-Average. You're not sure how you could add more armor in the future without compromising your agility.

Back behind the scenes, Errai asks for Havelyn's help.

>"I believe we have not been acquainted yet, but I implore you to look after the well-being of my lover. She is the distinct individual, we've all been acquainted with."

>"She means a lot to you, doesn't she?"

For a strange man dragged into an unfamiliar world, he's pretty astute. He agrees to the request and sets out in search of you.

Meanwhile the janitor changes her mind and goes back to look for survivors. Being responsible for the scented deaths of possibly three individuals might kill her subsequent paychecks. She makes a u-turn and heads back to the room where the cleaning grenade exploded.

>>607215
And she finds Elisabeth entering the same room from a different hallway. Both of them are staring at each other intently.

Errai would accompany Havelyn had it not been for her mother calling for her attendance.

>"Mother, what is the disturbance?"

>"We have a persistent juvenile and his incessant behavior is irritating."

Right on cue, a young boy wearing a frog hat scampers past them followed by (presumably) his exasperated caretaker.

>"Wait! We're not supposed to be here!"

Or maybe she's just a hapless civilian who stumbled upon this mess.

Gertude remembers something from her old life, specifically how she would make lewd jokes to all her male friends and see the awkward look on their faces. Too bad none of them lived long enough to actually make it happen. Still, she considers it's high time to actually live up to them...or maybe not. The thought of it still flusters her, she's still too straight for that! And yet...

She doesn't notice Aspirin giving her a weird look.

Elisabeth and the janitor recognize each other with outright hostility.

>"If it isn't the ragamuffin from Colony Outpost 13. I see you've decided to follow my footsteps and try to make something better out of your sorry self."

>"I go by Ammonia now, Head Janitress of Resorcinol, and I've been working here longer than you and you'd notice that if you bothered to stick your head out of this shoebox of a district.

>"And you're still a grimy slob who couldn't understand elegance if it hit her on the head. I think I'm better off here while you look after the common filth like the plebian that you are."

>"Hey, at least I'm doing -real- cleaning here. I'm the one who does the dirty job! I'm the one who actually has to look after this place! I'm the one who has to deal with everyone's messes! While all YOU ever did is clean your master's pipes!"

>"Oh! OH!! It. Is. On!"

You're too caught up with tinkering with your stats to look at the unfolding carnage. Considering that all you've done is fuse foreign material with your suit, you could reallocate the native material from your armor into upgrading your M.M. UNIT. Unfortunately you only really have five points, unless you misremembered. You could theoretically upgrade your SPATIAL DISTORTION with foreign material but it would have to be extremely high-tech like a jar of nanobots or an alien power source.

We might get good mileage if we MAXIMIZE SPACIAL DISTORTION and INCREASE DAMAGE RESISTANCE AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE after that. I've been wanting to see what kind of sick stunts we could pull.

Plus with higher defenses we could just walk past grant's bullshit.

Of course, we could ALTERNATIVELY switch things so we have max defense, as high as possible mobility, and leave spacial distortion as a dump stat.

What do you all think?

I believe in having max mobility and high as possible defence. I generally don't think our weapon set would really complement a tank role, and Kraken's Beak is more offensive anyways. Although it would complement a tank set, I'd rather have it as a trump card than as something more commonly used.

Meanwhile in at the Consumer District...

>"My Vernors! Oh my beautiful Vernors!"

>>610443
>>611216
You could do that, allocate all the points spent on MOBILITY into SPATIAL DISTORTION and use the remaining scrap to increase your DAMAGE RESISTANCE at the cost of losing your agile advantage.

On the other hand you could compromise by allocating your sole point in S.D. and put it into D.R.. Or have your mobility be the Above-Average stat. And then there's always the option of simply allocating the material to reinforce your equipment.

>>610488
Ammonia's swallows some of her pride and asks about the whole situation.

>"Alright alright, so what's going on here? Am I not just knocked out by my cleaning grenade?"

>"I don't know either, but it looks like something big is up and it probably has something to do with Petroleum. I took one look outside and I see armed policemen and medics everywhere."

You maintain your EXCELLENT MOBILITY and move a point over to your DAMAGE RESISTANCE, leaving your SPATIAL DISTORTION in the poor rating. You're only going to be able to reliably use your lower-end of the ability tiers (without potential backfire), but it should be enough considering the situation. Fortunately your REPAIR MODULE can having both high mobility and damage resistance.

You step out looking pretty much the same, albeit with minor changes.

All aboard the street-sweeper! The idiot train is ready to take off! But be sure to inventory your repair module first. It looks like it has a pre-set destination in mind, but it'll take figuratively half a century to get there if we don't move it along. Maybe with someone doing a little bit of tinkering, we can ramp up the speed on this thing...

To break the awkward silence, Ammonia speaks up first.

>"Everyone board the street-sweeper, choo-choo!"

Elisabeth has other thoughts.

>"Can this thing even carry all of us?"

>"Of course it can! It carried my luggage once...all of it."

Yeah, but you mention that it'll take forever to get anywhere.

>"Got any ideas, alien lady?"

First off, you're not an alien, second off, you got just the thing. There's no way this can fit into your REPAIR MODULE (which you put in your inventory) so instead you go by Plan B...except you're not sure it would work.

You still have your CABLE KIT with you, but it's supposed to be used in connecting your repair module to the nearby electricity grid, in case you lose its main power source or something. Then again, it does contain spare batteries.

Unfortunately neither Stoddard nor his technicians are here to help you out, and Ammonia only has very basic familiarity with this stuff. You...didn't really study electrical wiring back in Aquamantis either, but anything's better than nothing.

Several minutes of trial and error, you managed to hook it up to some of your batteries. It's a bit of a botched job but it should substantially increase its locomotion capacity. This would be a whole lot easier if you had something that can modify objects freely like your repair module.

>"I see you've formed new acquaintances. This room bears a mild fragrance."

Errai and Havelyn has just arrived, how did they get here?

>"Merely good fortune."

The CLEANBOT starts moving again...this time outwards from the current location. You ask the janitress why isn't it heading towards Petroleum.

>"I...dunno. Sometimes it has a mind of its own and gets me someplace. Maybe that's where he actually is?"

The maid interjects with her opinion.

>"I disagree, I've seen him wander out every now and then but he almost never stays out for long."

Hmm...

>Ignore the bot and keep moving inwards somehow

>Write-in

Having EXCELLENT MOBILITY, you decide to skip ahead of your group to gather the others. Of course, not everyone's willing to come along.

Decrux has to call it quits, he's not in any serious condition but he says he can't risk further injuries past the part where the rocket launcher exploded in his face. Aramid and Aspirin also wants to stay behind as well, they have to keep watch until this whole situation is resolved. Stoddard refuses on the notion that he's already come too far to turn around. Hayley can't stay up any longer and says she's going to bed. Saccharin also wants to back out, the adventure is fun but she's still in the body of a little girl and thus she can't stay up late.

That's a fair amount of people to leave, but there's enough allies to accompany you. You go and see Rigel having a discussion with the vendor in regards to the strangers who just showed up here.

>"Before I went up here, I sent a message to get some help."

>"And those two are your reinforcements?"

>"Actually, no! I wanted to get Danielle, Questie and the Jack of Hearts. Instead, I got some college student chasing a kid who's up waaaay past his bedtime."

>"...Who?"

>"Just bear with me on this one."

Right, you tell them to come along as there's another task ahead. You also remind the vendor to bring his girlfriend for the ride.

>>613767
With Betelgeuse distracted, the frog-hatted kid attempts to escape his warden but Caffeine catches him in the act.

>"That's enough! You're not going anywhere except to your bed! Miss, can you take him to his parents?"

The civilian drags him towards the nearest exit...which happens to be the same exit you are going to.

The hazmat leads you to a spacious elevator where a few other hazmats stand with high-end equipment. They seem rather docile and one of them even jokes about the situation.

>"See? I told you it wouldn't work."

Hmph, there's more to this than you thought. The platform starts going down to the central depths of the establishment. You try to ponder your situation but your contemplation is interrupted with the sound of Sirius getting hurt.

You turn around and see that a robot has fallen on top of him. He's pinned down by a bladed weapon and out of the fight, but at least he's okay. The others have dodged out of the way in panic. In a fit of instinct, you pull Errai out of the way to avoid a second robot crashing on top of her.
