/qst/ - Quests

All of a sudden, every human on the planet has gained the power to "assimilate" other people's traits by eating them, and grow larger, stronger.

Basically a sort of Agar.io. But with people.

You heard it on the news about two weeks ago. But now, the streets have become a wasteland of survival of the fittest, ruled by the law of eat or be eaten. "Giants" - massive, deformed humans which have consumed a massive amount of other people roam the outside, looking for easy pickings.

You've locked yourself inside your apartment building's meter room - someone had left the keys on the door, which you now had tightly in your fist. Several panels which state how much water, electricity and gas has been consumed adorn the wall in front of you. Scattered around, are a lot of empty tomato sauce cans, and next to them, a backpack and a notebook.

You wiped some tomato off the corner of your lips, and then put an ear to the door.

Silence.

You check your wrist watch with the faint moonlight that dropped in from a small window above: three o'clock in the morning.

Alright. You had been in here long enough. You look at your notebook, and then tucked it into the backpack. It was time to move.

What did your notebook have written in it?

>A checklist of places to check for other "Non-eater survivors" like you in the city.
>As the "eater" you want to become, it's an analysis of the giants you've seen so far, so that you can attempt to scavenge human flesh from them.
>A map. You have a detailed route drawn out to reach the bike you have left in the garage and then out of the city, towards a gas station you know.

We go in, eat a bunch of weak, single-bodied humans on the downlow then walk out without the risk of screwing around with titans... I mean giants
>>
>>635097
As long as we're not going to be a pussy and not eat people. I'm fine with either
>>
You decide to go check for other "non-eaters". People who want to continue living like "people". Heck, if everyone decided to be a non-eater, we wouldn't be in this problem in the first place.

Near your house you had a sewer entry and an old cobblestone church - perhaps there you could find allies. You knew that eaters have the disadvantage of size - so places that they can't easily enter would be good places to start.

As you sneaked through the streets, you could see a solitary, at least 10-feet tall ogre-man sleeping against the church's main door - the only entrance and exit. He had a kind of makeshift maul with him, and there where several indentation markings on the massive metal sheets which coated the church's door.

There seemed to be heavy variance in the appearance an eater could take. This guy was obese, but you've seen others who were extremely muscular, or lanky and super tall. There was still stuff about the "eater" phenomenon which you didn't understand yet.

The ogre being there meant that it was very likely that people were inside - but there was a problem: that ogre.

The entrance to the sewer was further ahead. You also knew that the outside was never safe, no matter the time of day (early morning had the least risk though, because they tend to be asleep at that hour). Every minute had to count - you knew that you would likely not win a direct confrontation.

>Decide to sneak off to the sewers for now.
>Try to wake up the ogre and distract him towards you, so that you can then try to ditch him through the sewer to later enter the church when he gets bored of you, hopefully.
>Try to sneak up and knock the church door, very carefully.

Perhaps with less "actual flesh" being devoured, we won't mutate as much and still gain its power(to a degree?)then we can enter a group of normies and protect them with our powers. That may have a neat plot to it.

QM do the powers of the monsters stem from them being giant or do they also get like say stretchy skin, scales, or special abilities based on what the person eats

You decide to approach him. You had in mind to get close to him, having considered outright attempting to kill him and knocking on the door... as well as taking a bite. This... This was a chance?

Man, but fuck. Becoming an eater?

But if it's just a bite it doesn't count?

You tiptoe up to him. He's huge. His skin is warty and rough, enveloping rolls of flab.

Fuuuuuuuuuuck.

It's gross. Taking a bite from a random stranger? But, fuck. This might be your only chance. Who knows how much stronger these things may get in the future.

You lean your head with your eyes tightly shut and your gape open towards his forearm...

"Jesus christ." you whisper to yourself, as you retract your head. You're really going to do this?

You inhaled, tightened your fists, and glared at the forearm again.

"Fuck it" you exhaled, and plunged your teeth into his greasy skin.

"HUUUUROAAGH!" the ogre immediately moaned, as you managed to scrape off a finger's worth of skin and flesh off him.

You stepped back and looked at him. He was waking up with his brows and nostrils pushed together, but lethargically so. Annoyed: definitely, from the look on his face.

Alright alright alright. Powers? You looked at your hands. Nothing. Aside from some odd warmth in your stomach, you really didn't feel much. Maybe you didn't take large enough of a bite?

Well, at least now you knew that a small dosage like this doesn't do much.

"....yyyYYYYOOU!" the ogre then yelled, starting to get on his two feet and reach for his weapon.

You decide to run to the sewer - you dash as fast as you can towards it, as the mammoth of a human lurched towards you. You had just enough time to set your fingers properly into the lid and pull the sewer open before letting yourself drop in.

You fall, half on your feet, half on your ass, and both are left sore from the impact, but you manage to quickly stand up again and hop a few steps away. You could hear the ogre reaching the sewer entrance and roaring down.

"Y...You - what are you doing here!" you could hear a meager female voice then hiss out from deeper in the sewer "Who are you?!". You looked towards her, but the flashlight she was shining towards you blinded you. She seemed to notice, and turn it off. Shrouded in darkness, you really couldn't see how she looked like exactly, but she had herself wrapped in a large raincoat of a sort from what you could tell.

"I'm... Blake" you admitted. "I got in here to run from an Eater. Who're you?"

You were left with silence.

"W...What are you going to do now?" she then said, and you could hear that she retreated a few steps.

"A...Ah." she replied. "Well, o-okay."

"So.... Are there more people here?" you asked.

After a short pause, she turned on her flashlight again onto you. "Y-you're... Not from the church group, aren't you?"

You shook your head.

"No, there aren't more people here" she replied, with relief, approaching a bit. You could see that she had an androgynous look, was fairly tan and was somewhat lanky. "At least not in this section. People just go with the church people. B-but... If you aren't part of the church people, then... Then maybe you can stay here, you know?"

"...But then why are you here?" you asked.

She turned the flashlight off.

"I... I don't get along well with the Church. Before, yes, I did. Like, they were totally against Eaters and eating people - that's how thing are supposed to be, right?" she replied. "But now, now they want to make so that it's alright to eat anyone who attacks us, or anyone who isn't part of the church! But that would just make us as bad as the Eaters, no?!"

She shook her head. "I can't accept that."

"Do... Do you think the same?" she wondered. "Do you also believe that eating people is wrong, no matter who?"

"Yeah. Eating people is pretty wrong." you reply.

"Aaaah!" she exhaled. "Such a relief!"

She tapped her forehead a few times and chuckled to herself. "I-I... I had a good feeling from you, y'know?"

"Heh. I'm glad." you replied.

"The church people... Gah! Everyone are being just such...Lapdogs!" she further explained. "The Reverend just wants to please that..." she blinked and then cupped something large and invisible in front of her chest "...cow!"

She looked at you with her brow furrowed. "But he's, like, a priest! He-he can't be thinking of those things! Where are his vows! Where... What's happening with everyone?!"

You nodded. "Sounds... Difficult, really. I can see why you've chosen to, well. Defect."

"Yeah. I'm Juana, by the way." she then said. "I... Don't believe I've said my name yet, heh."

"It's alright" you shrugged. "By the way, Juana. Could I... Stay here? It will be easier for both of us to survive here, together."

"A...At least for now, yeah." Juana replied. "I... I don't think that the church people will be too happy with me still, well, around here. And the sewers aren't exactly the most hygienic place to stay at."

You nodded. "Gotcha".

The MC himself

>Tell us about the MC. What did he use to do before the world collapsed? Any important skills and talents we should know of? What about his life, family, and friends?
We're still in somewhat of an introductory phase with the character's motivations and all being settled (being an eater or not for example), so that is still to be determined. What is for sure though is that he has tended to be a bit of a recluse, because of what is in the OP.

Liked the quest, I think the difficulty should be increased, just because we are the main character doesn't mean we should be immune to the effects of reckless decisions.

You had attempted to take a short nap in the sewers with Juana. She had several raincoats, and had given you one to sleep in.

There really wasn't anywhere comfortable in here. The air was thick with dampness and stench. Cardboard boxes she had brought down in here withered with the humidity and the walls were cold.

"Not sleeping?" she asked.

"Yeah."

"Snack?" she then offered, showing a muesli bar.

Man, it's been forever since you've had anything besides tomato sauce.

"S-Sure." you stammer.

---*---

"So, how are the things in the Church?" you asked, after swallowing down some muesli "Like, how were they before, and how are they now?"

"Before?" she muttered "Kinda alright. We stuck together, you know. Everyone wanted to be 'clean', everything was alright. We ate together, helped each other, the usual. Reverend Graham lead it all. He wasn't, uh, perfect - he did bit too much favoritism- but he was good enough."

"Now?"

"They're... More anxious than before. They want to survive, as anyone else, of course. But they're starting to do things wrong. There is a huge 'vengeance' kind of vibe going on - people want to 'get back' at the people who have done them wrong and get rid of the giants we've got around. Uhm, you know, like, killing them. Kinda like eye for an eye."

She exhaled uneasily. "Here is where it gets difficult. They want to eat the people they've 'justly' killed."

"Before it was totally taboo" she continued. "But now it's starting to seem more lax - and of course it is, people are eating in secret! Everyone wants to get an advantage over everyone else!"

"They're starting to become a self-righteous gang of a sort." Juana then admitted. "They're the 'good guys', everyone else are the 'bad guys', which gives them the right to eat them for the 'greater good. They want to begin a sort of 'Crusade' of their own, and start fighting Eaters by being Eaters themselves.'"

"...H-Have you ever eaten anyone, Blake?" she wondered.

"Well, not-kinda-really." you mention, and cough into your fist. "So, Juana. Before, well... Everything breaking down, what did you do?"

"I, uh, cleaned houses. And took care of old people." she said.

"...Aren't you a bit young for that?" you replied, and looked her over. She looked to be in her teens. A rather tall, but otherwise, below-average looking teen.

"Ah, hehe." she flustered, and looked aside with a smile as she grabbed her cheek. "I always get that, you know. Thank you, uhm, for the compliment. I'm, uh, actually old enough to work."

"What did you do?" she asked.

"Handyman" you replied. "I, uh, dropped out of college. Ever since I've been from job to job, working as a plumber, construction guy, and stuff."

"Ah." Juana nodded. "Well, that's... nice."

You shrugged. "I kind of wish I stayed at college, but right now, I'm reconsidering that. If I had never worked in what I had worked in, I would've never been able to survive the first weeks. I locked myself into the meter room, and I got the water I needed by tampering with the pipes. All I had to eat was tomato sauce though, heh. I couldn't find anything else."

"Yeah I saw that look on your face when I gave you the muesli" she chuckled. "'Whoooa, muesli' you must've been thinking."

You snorted a laugh into your fist, then looked back at her. "Well, yeah, heh. Thank you a tonne for them."

She waved her hands in front of her. "Aah, no problem, no problem" she mentioned.

---*---

"You know, you're lucky to have at least some kind of 'skill'" she then brought up, as you wiped your mouth of raisin bits.

"How so?" you replied.

"The... Church people are trying to push some 'martyrdom' plan. Well. Not all of them. Actually very few. But it worries me."

"Well, you're no longer going to be there with them, no? Why does it matter?"

"Gah, well. You see, not everyone is well. Fortunate. How... How do I explain this... Like, people with... problems." she said, and pointed to her head. "Like... Slow... people."

She continued "Some are... Well. Saying that they're just dead weight on the church and food and time, and they would be better off. Well. Eaten."

She looked at you, with her eyes narrowed. "And they want to put it all... Fancy" she wove her hands in the air "Like, whoooa, you're a Martyr, you're amazing, good job."

"It's horrible. All they really want to do is to eat them." she concluded. "It's just horrible."

---*---

"What should we do now?" she then asked you, as you stood up. You still had a good amount of time before the sun rose. "What... What are you going to do? Are you going to leave and come back? To where? Can I come with?"

She seemed pretty anxious. She must really appreciate not being alone anymore.

You peeked out of the sewer entrance, and you saw that the ogre was gone.

I would prefer the more difficult human route by not eating people - becomes a stomp fest pretty quickly I suppose.

You tucked your head back into the sewers.

"Those bastards!" you start off. "Killing the retarded for power!"

"No nonono, don't get me wrong Blake." she blurted. "They're not killing anyone yet. It's just what some have had in mind to do."

"Ah." you replied. "Still. That's pretty shit to think about."

"J-Just... Don't do anything too brash, okay?" she stammered.

You exhaled, still not entirely convinced, and still decided to see what you can think of in regards to getting rid of the church people. You peeked back outside, to analyze the situation better.

You saw that the walls where all stone. Real solid stuff. And the door seemed to be wooden with metal sheeting riveted onto it. What you figured out was that the weakest point were likely to be the hinges, which have no reinforcement at all. So pure pushing force might do the trick, although, you didn't know what kind of structural defense they had *behind* the door to perhaps prevent that.

You then saw the door gently open, and two young men march out.

"Anything else we should bring?" they asked.

"Dumbbells." an sweet, high-pitched femenine voice said. Then, she stepped outside. She was in shorts and and a bikini top, with a towel hanging over her neck, which she used to wipe her forehead. Her looks where amazing - an incredibly beautiful face, flawless skin which was beaming with youth and health, and a huuuge pair of breasts. "Some, uh, proper gym clothes too maybe? But yeah, dumbbells."

"Dumbbells, are you sure?" one of the guys replied. "Can't we like, improvise with buckets or something? We got buckets. Quite a lot, actually."

"The guys would like a proper gym and stuff, really. You know, to train to fight. If you can bring it, it would do them a huge favor."

The other man shrugged, and put his hand on the first one's shoulder. "Well, alright. C'mon, let's go. The sooner we can get back in and have some breakfast, the better. Chocolate Crispies, right? Man, I can't wait."

You decide to go spy on them.

---*---

It was quite diffiult to keep track of them, as they were trying to be as stealthy as you were. However, from what they mentioned earlier and the direction they were going, you assumed they were going towards the gym.

You arrived there, and several minutes later, they did, loaded with something in their backpacks.

---*---

"Alright, so we just need to get these dumbbells are we're all set." the taller one said.

"Huh? What?" the shorter one said. "What about, you know?"

"Oh. Yeah." he replied. "Can it wait for later?"

"Duuude? Hello? Am I going to get another chance? No? C'mon. It shouldn't be too hard, now can it?" the shorter one countered. "I also fucking suspect that you and some of the others are sneaking in bites as well, oho, see how you're looking away. Yeah. I knew it."

"It was just a guy who was already dead, and, well...I did it for the good of the Church, you know? It's not like I'm going to use the power for my own gain..."

"See? Seeeee? And what, you're going to leave me behind? Trying to make me look bad? Are you going to try to make me a Martyr, huh?"

"Alright, man. Chill. We'll get you something, nobody will fig-"

"Did you hear that?"

"Yeah."

They looked towards your direction, but they didn't seem to be able to pinpoint where you were. They started to do hand signs to each other, and then, they started to look around.

They were inside the gym, and you were outside, looking through the cracks of a dusty, broken window. You had a head start if you wanted to try to run, but their conversation seemed to imply that one of them was an Eater, although a really "small" one.

You were a moderately athletic guy as well, at par with their own level, you hoped.

You throw a rock in one direction, and then, you flee off in the opposite. You could hear them immediately chase off after the sound, as you managed to run past a corner, into a small alley. They wouldn't have line of sight for you here - but you needed to find somewhere to hide.

There was a large metal trash bin in here, and you decided to leap in, and cover yourself with a couple greasy cardboard boxes which had been left within.

Then, you waited.

---*---

"Here, I found one." you could then hear one of them say.

"Is... Was she the person we heard before?"

"I don't know man. But she's dead, and missing, well. The usual."

"Ah. So... How does it work? I just.. .Eat?"

"Yeah man. Shoulder? The bicep, here? You can get a good chunk there. Just never, never eat the brain."

"Why?"

"You go insane. Like, this... Eating thing? It kinda like 'adds' what you've eaten, plus a bit of like, general growth. Eat the brain, and it messes you up good. Well, if you eat a lot you get messed up anyway, because of the "general" thing, but just... a bit should be alright."

"Huh. I see."

"Yeah. I recommend just eating you know, the meat, muscle. Don't try to eat anything else, unless you know what you're doing."

---*---

After a while, they left. You could see that were was still a fresh human carcass left behind.

You decide to take a bite. Quietly, you sneak up towards the corpse, and checked the area around it. Everything seemed to be alright.

The corpse was nude, and missing its eyelids, lips, breasts, and a large section of its knees, as if i has been cut out cleanly with a knife. A large amount of her arms and thighs seem to have been bitten off, leaving only mostly bone behind.

You pinch at her calves, and started to chew off parts of it, but progress was slow. You opted to tear them off instead, and then, you brought them with you to the alley you had hidden in earlier.

The meat was still warm and it tasted like undercooked veal. Slowly, you could feel that warmth again. You felt more vital, more energetic, which gave you strength to eat that calve entirely, leaving only her foot and bone left.

Then, you grew. Slowly, and gradually, you could feel that warmth. Then, your veins started to pop on your skin, and you could feel your blood pumping quicker, your heartbeat accelerate and your skin feel tighter as it as filled from the inside.

Then, it all stopped.

You looked at your hands, and then your gaze went to your forearms. They were a bit thicker. More muscular (You were in rather good shape before though, as a former regular basketball player). You kneaded a finger into it, and it felt more firm, stronger. The rest of you - your biceps, chest, etc seemed to have been boosted as well, just a bit.

You blinked in realization, and checked your calves. They had also grown, a bit more than the rest of you, but nothing really noteworthy.

---*---
Current "stats": (5 is average human, 10 is peak human condition. You start as 6 because of the earlier decision.)
Overall physique: 6 -> Overall physique: 6.5
More stats exist, but you haven't perceived any changes aside from the ones mentioned, a general, overall "boost".
---*---

You still had that other calve, but you felt a bit full at the moment. You tucked it into your backpack, and then, went to the gym.

Inside, there wasn't much. It seemed to have been already looted for the most part, but there were lockers here, and heavy gym equipment like treadmills and bench presses which haven't been moved yet. You checked inside the lockers thoroughly, and managed to find a pair of jump ropes which you promptly stowed away, and a mop with a metal bar. You removed the mop's lower mopping piece, kept it, and walked around with the staff as a weapon for now.

You attempt to return to the sewer, but right then, you notice a large gang of Eaters come towards you, crossing a corner. They were rather small, standing at about 7-8 feet tall each, and they seemed fairly human, although nearly all of them were very muscular, and had some obvious deformity, such as disproportionally large arms or legs.

"We got outselves another lil' one here, bawss" a lanky one of them chuckled, as he pointed towards you. You could see that one of them, a hulk-shaped man, was carrying the two Church-men you had found earlier, bloody and with twisted limbs. They were likely dead.

"Oho." a red-haired guy said, and looked at you. "This guy isn't from the Church, guys. I haven't seem *him* before."

You look side to side. You had a slim chance to get away if you tried to. Slim, but still possible, you believed. You hoped they wouldn't be able to get into the sewer easily.

"Let's just kill him too, bawss" the lanky one chuckled. "The more, the merrier."

"Yes, but... He seems to be an Eater too. Look, he's just eaten from that corpse, hasn't he? He isn't like the Church people, those damn puritans. He could be like us. You took me in, right? Why couldn't we take him in too?"

"Yeah but bawss." the lanky one said. "He could be great to eat too you know. By our side or in our bellies, what difference does it make?"

SAO discord was terrible. Granted I don't have much discord experience but the one I'm in is fairly civil and much nicer to be in than the SAO one.

It's as good as the people want it to be. If you have an audience of 12 year olds, the discord will reflect that. If your players are fairly chill, I'd imagine the discord would be nice as well. That aside, I do think it's an easy way to interact with players. Makes it easy to get feedback and ideas if that's your thing, helps clean up your thread a bit if people are arguing in the discord instead. That's mostly all I can think of, maybe ask qtg their thoughts.

You offer them the half-leg.

"Oi." you said, with some attitude, trying to imitate their style of things. "You guys want this? Pretty good meat, I wouldn't want it to go to waste."

The other men looked at each other and chuckled, however the red-haired guy remained stoic, and approached you.

"I'm glad that you know to appreciate the value of human meat." he said, approaching you solemnly. "Or you're simply mocking us."

The others soon went silent.

"Kid, you seem like someone worthwhile." he then added, and rose his sleeves. "Want to join us?"

"...y-Yeah, of course!" you stammered.

"Good."

"Hey, Thirteen, you're going to-?" one of the gangmembers mentioned.

"Yes. If he's good, we keep him. If not, we eat him. Sounds fair, doesn't it?" the redhead replied.

"Well, yeah. Alright."

"Good."

You could then see Thirteen pat his back with a fist repeatedly, then, he shivered, and put himself into what you could only identify as a sort of karate stance in front of you.

"Ready?" he then said, as he exhaled slowly, and seemed to concentrate.

"Ten!" he exclaimed, and with a movement at blinding speed, seemed to disappear, and then reappear in front of you.

You noticed at for a moment, his eyes took fractions of a second to dart around, until they focused back on you.

"Shi - Ba!" he exclaimed, and in a flash, you felt a jab in your stomach, causing you to cough out a mouthful of blood, and just as quickly, he disappeared again, to return back to where he was standing before. He blinked and looked around again, to then look at you.

You held your abdomen from the sudden pain, and glanced at him. You could feel a sort of indentation in your flesh from his punch - he was really strong.

"It's over." he said, and started to look at the area behind you, as he put himself into that karate stance again.

"Ten, ten ten!"

You held your ground, and waited for him to make his move.

He disappeared again, and then, you felt pushed backwards - it was Thirteen, right in your face, charging you towards the wall.

He had hit you, yes, but you had mentally prepared for this, and in a twitch reaction, kicked him aside, sending him stumbling to aside as you landed on the ground and slid. You looked towards him as you achingly stood up again. He was looking around, apparently disoriented, and then looked back at you.

"Oh, you're good." he said, rotating the shoulder you had hit as he held it. He put himself into a stance again. "Good enough, though?"

You could see him focus again.

"Ten-shi-ba!, Ten-shi-ba!" he recited in a ritual-like manner.

You swallowed. You knew another assault was going to come. How would you counter it?

You immediately drop to the ground, and then, you could feel the air whiff above you, with Thirteen punching the area above you, and then disappearing just as quickly. You didn't have time to kick him, but then, he did the exact same maneuver again.

Right then, you kicked his shins, and he lost balance, but then, he still flashed back again, but he ended up sliding on the ground and tumbling back instead of recovering his stance. You assumed he would be disoriented again, and you used that opportunity to stand up before he did, and hit him with the staff into his chest.

He just sat there, looking up at you.

"That's good enough." he chuckled. "No need to continue."

He stood up, and offered a handshake. "You're pretty skilled." he said "I want to welcome you to the Stadium Gang."

You looked back at him, and shook his hand. "Glad to... Join" you replied, still a bit unsure about what would be the best thing to do right now. But you won, didn't you?

He laughed loudly and patted your back energetically. "C'mon, man! You're part of us now."

You attempted to laugh as well along him, and you nodded. "Thank you, Thirteen, I appreciate it."

"No problem, man!"

---*---

You were lead to the city's Stadium. The building was practically a large, circular wall, and you could see that a couple rouge, monstrous, Eaters where around, but they didn't attack the gang when they went towards the doors. Instead, they retreated off.

"I've never seen an Eater do that." you told Thirteen.

"Yeah, they're dumb fucker, but not *that* dumb." he chuckled. "At least not yet. Just wait until they're bigger."

---*---

The inside of the Stadium seemed to be a small village in itself. Different parts of the area were populated by small groups, some had even set up campfires. Most of them were more deformed and larger than Thirteen's gang.

"You've taken a while to return, Thirteen" a huge, middle-aged man in a wheelchair mentioned, as he approached the group. "Did you get the supplies?"

(cont)
>>
"Uh...Not really, Graham." he said. "But I got this guy here. He' a champ, he nearly beat me, you know?"

"Your abilities aren't exactly the best for direct...brawling." Graham said. "Your adrenal gland can only last for so long, and its patterns in combat are predictable. I don't know if your 'test' is really worth taking seriously."

"Dude, this guy is good, I'm telling you."

"Are you sure you're not doing this just to expand your own... How to call it... Band of lackeys?"

"Graham, leave me alone, alright? I know what I'm doing." Thirteen protested.

"I'll leave him to you, then." he replied. "Don't make him a bother for the rest of us."

---*---

You were then lead into a section of the Stadium, which had a bunch of supplies and junk untidily in a corner.

"This is our spot" Thirteen explained. "We got to go get those supplies. Uh... Wait here. We'll figure out what to do with you later. Also, the outside is fucking surrounded by Eaters, so don't go out alone."

He then pointed to a couple people from other groups, and pointed at his eyes, and then at you. The other people nodded, or thumbs upped.

Thirteen soon left, and you were left alone that Stadium area.

Some where eating humans... or other eaters, and sharing the meal, and they seemed to share certain slices with certain people. They hardly wasted anything, and cut after cut, they only left behind some bone, certain guts, and the brain.

You also noticed that the distribution was sorted out according to the group. Some people had a lot of liver, some others more muscle tissue, and others, just a bit of everything. Overall though, people seemed to often get servings of their own gender, and men seemed to prefer more servings of certain parts of the body such as arm and torso tissue, and women ate breast and thigh. That would explain how they still seemed "human", although largely exaggerated in their own way, especially women, who seemed to be a bit more picky about what they ate.

You blinked and looked around at the rest in realization. They weren't eating pointlessly. They knew what and why they were eating, and the consequences it would have, as if they were trying to control exactly how they would devolve into monstrosities.

You decided to approach a group of very tall and ridiculously proportioned women, who seemed occupied with slicing up people at some tables in the field and looked the least intimidating of the groups. You assumed they were the "kitchen" of a sort, or the butchery.

"Ah, you're the new lad, yeah?" a tall, rather obese gray-haired woman said in a croaky voice, as she butchered a young girl into smaller bits with a kitchen knife. The younger girls looked at you from afar, and gossiped silently amongst themselves.

"Yeah" you replied, looking up to her. "Thirteen brought me."

"Ah, that's nice." she chuckled. "Thirteen is always so kind to bring new people to the Stadium."

She slammed the knife down and beheaded the girl. "You'll likely need to eat some more, dear, if you're going to get anywhere around here." she chuckled "You're so small!"

(cont)
>>
"Well, yeah, uh. Hunting has been tough" you lied.

"Yeah, that's what hunting alone gives you" she replied "But now, with us, you'll be better in no time."

"Yeah" you said, as you scratched your back and looked aside. "I hope."

She then look around, and then, flicked the butchered girl's arm onto the grass.

"Oh, could you pick that up, dear?" she said, as she pointed to the arm, and then to her mouth, and then to you.

"Aaah... sure." you replied, and took the arm. You looked around and then tucked it into your backpack, hopefully without anyone watching. She thumbs upped at you.

"Thank you dear." she replied, and continued her work. "C'mon, off you go. I'm sure you've got much to do now. Toodles!"

"Ah, yes. Toodles" you said, and walked off.

You believed you still had some time before Thirteen arrived, as this small interaction just lasted for a bit, and he hasn't come back yet.

Didn't the earlier post say they had to die of poisoning to have that be an affect? Wouldn't the logic flow similarly that the person would have to die in a fire to give you fire based shit.

That may very well be the case. However if it it, the worst that will hapen is we just get stronger. If the condition upon death is the side effect we get then we wont have burned skit ither(?) I feel in this time of relative "ease" would be a good time to test such theories.
>>
>>645723
Of course. Also fun thing to note for now is that it seems as if thirteen at least, don't know about the whole stadium, does not know about the happenings in the church. Maybe with this knowledge one could pressure the stadium gang to raid the church so another competing eater gang does not reach a good level of power to then compete with the stadium gang. In fact we could lure the sewer girl out of the sewer to then possibly use to verify this information if it takes some convincing(she'll likely die tho jsyk). Raiding the church would give one a fair chance at being able to beef ones self up which we can then use to give us some more room to make decisions. However this will also beef up the stadium gang so it will mainly only give us room for the outside world and just some merit and reliability in the stadium gang.

Imma feel like a dick when she dies but I do have to think your correct, She wont survive long not being an eater.Using her to verify information would be the smart thing to do

Both showing our new "team" our cunning and bringing them a good meal. BUT rather than kill all of them we should experiment this whole special ability thing on some of them as guinea pigs ya know. Drowning, burning, poisoning, electrocution, things like that

Also how are we feeling about these guys? They cool or we thinkin of ditching and returning to sewer girl? Or both?

Id like to see the gang become pic related
>>
>>645728
I think the stadium gang gives us the best platform we could have really to make further decisions. As of now it seems as if things are broken up into squads and I do agree this would be a great time to test the ability factor. Also if it seems ability if it is hard to argue to the stadium gang about the necesity of a raid one can easily mention the fact there is a movement in the church to eat those they deem weaker than them meaning if we where to wait it would yield less food and subjects to do testing on for ability factor. If we can make clear we are an asset then I believe we will have great standing with this gang.

So, what we may wanna be getting at is perhaps taking 13 to meet sewer girl, having her tell him the same thing that she told us(Implying he dosent look to inhuman to pass a visual lookover). Have a second source of info reguarding the ideal that the church is going towards and stating how they will be a threat soon would make us much more convincing than just saying "Hey guys a sewer girl told me these churchfags are gonna eat us soon"
>>
>>645735
I was honestly thinking wed intimidate or torture her into giving the information. No need to pass a persuasion check.
>>

I thought she told us everything she knew already and we were gonna pursuade her to spy on the church in the time before we move to attack, getting numbers and times of intrest down.

I mean we are going the bad guy route in this quest I think, we may wanna see how the group acts a little more before we start torturing people

As long as we try to prevent her from being eaten I'm fine with whatever.
As for the morality issue we could go with a survival mindset instead of full evil, we do what we have to do and all that stuff, we still try to do good but wont endanger ourselves recklessly.
Also at the beginning we told the girl that we think "eating people is wrong, no matter who" and to avoid being a hypocrite i thought up something.
>I still think eating other people is bad, a civilization of cannibals will never work, but i am just one man, i can't stand against all the giants in the world as just a human, i do what i have to do.

I wanna know why the brain is so bad to eat. Wouldnt more brain matter be good for thinking?
>>
>>645861
I thought the earlier implication was that it would essentially make part of that person's brain a part of yours causing insanity due to the conflict of being two different people.
>>
Going to resume in an hour
>>
>>645866
But anon,
The normal human brain already functions a lot like two separate individuals, being forced to work together. Look at the studies on people who have had the connection between the left and right halves severed (usually as part of an old medical procedure). I think that as long as there's enough brain matter to compensate, an individual could cope with and potentially thrive with multiple minds to increase multitasking and focus capabilities. The dominant mind is sure to prevent conflicted action.
>>
>>645883
it's not my game however and the person running this will likely take their own liberty. I'm just stating the implication given earlier.
>>
>>645888
Either way, split brain experiments and studies are really interesting shit. I recommend looking them up if only to learn some wicked cool shit, my man. I still wonder what its like to have a split brain.
>>
>>645861
Speculation
>The brain is complicated shit.
>Once someone dies the brain loses a lot of it's value, maybe there is a memory void which makes people go insane.
>Multiple personalities fight for dominance over the body.
>>
If I recall correctly the brain only functions at a fraction of its overall potential. You would think that by eating a brain a higher percentage would be unlocked to the eater. Making it kinda like that movie from a few years ago that the whole premis was she unlocked 100% potential of the brain and could effectively stop time, lift heavy objects, an hivemind people just from having that other % unlocked. NOT EVEN factoring the larger size the brain may take from eating another one, going above those powers into what could be called somewhat of a god

>taking atoms from objects and throwing them together to make new objects, somehow creating life(?) and the like
>>
You decide to approach the kitchen group person to try learn more about the careful evolution. The woman who offered you the "food" before looked at you with raised eyebrows.

"Why are you here again?" she hissed. "I'm... not going to give you any more."

"I'd like to learn more about what you guys eat, and why." you asked, and looked aside, as you scratched the side of your head. "Maybe you could tell me?"

"I've... got work to do." she replied. "Go ask Chugg-... I mean Chelsea. Everyone calls her Chugger though. Like that she can be useful for once. All she does is, well. Fill that mouth of hers."

She gestured towards a particularly enormous Eater girl. She was far from being the tallest, but her body shape was more exaggerated than the others by a very generous margin.

---*---

You walked up to her, and rose a hand.

"Hello." you greeted. "What's up?"

The young girl with pigtails looked up to you. She had a pile of bloody guts and other chopped-up meat you really couldn't identify, which she stuffed into a blender connected to a small portable generator, and then let the little machine whirl loudly.

"Did Master Graham send you?" she wondered, with a sweet, although slightly dopey voice, and then chugged down the jar she had just blended.

"No...?" you said. "She did."

"Ah. Why?" she asked, and tilted her head.

"Maybe you could tell me how the eating works." you said. "Like, why do you eat certain things and all. There seems to be a diet kind of thing going on."

"Graham knows." she replied "He's like... A doctor."

"What are you eating?" you asked Chugger.

"T-Things." she stammered.

"Ah." you said. You figured that if she liked to eat so much, perhaps she would like that arm you had been given. You pulled it out.

"Would you like a bit? Just a bite, I'd like to keep this for later. But hey, you're cool."

She shook her head.

"I.. only eat what Graham tells me to." she said. "T-thank you though. Very kind of you."

"Ah, oh well." you shrugged. "About that - why is eating brains so bad? Do you know?"

"Yeah, Graham explains it all the time." she said. She then put on a faux deep accent, and shook her finger in front of her "Don't eat brains! It messes you up!"

"Yes, but why, exactly?"

(cont)
>>
>>646020
I recall that fraction of potential shit being a myth.
You definitely wouldnt be able to do the rest of that shit just by having tenfold processing power, too.
>>
"Something to do with overlapping." she said "Your brain is like a... Network? A highway? Imagine adding more roads to that. It's not like, muscle, where you just add more fibers and it's K."

You blinked. She wasn't so air-headed after all. Maybe it was just her demeanor.

"So like, you have all of these roads" she continued "You have your unique set of roads, and its all nice and balanced, and you add more at random, it's not good! Some... Sometimes you can do it though"

"Sometimes like when?" you asked

"When you're related, like by blood, there's a lot less risk. Still dangerous though, like, when you eat and grow, it's hard to uh, do delicate, fine-tuning growth. Coarse growth is easy, but small and delicate... Is hard." she explained. "Lots of neurons is very delicate"

"Huh. How did Graham get to know all of this Eater stuff?"

"...He's done a lot of ...experiments." she admitted. "But Graham stopped trying the brain get-super-smart thing a while ago."

"So... What route is he trying now?"

"I don't know." she says. "But he says he has a plan for me. But I have to do as he says, and I get to stay here, safe. I don't have to go hunt or fetch supplies. All I have to do is eat. He gets very happy when I eat everything he tells me to."

"I-if you figure out what.. What he wants to do with me, please tell me." she then said, in a fainter voice. "He... he's always looking. He protects everyone, he is a good man, newbie, he is a good man. But I want to *know*".

You nodded. "I'm not going to assure you anything, but I'll see what I can do."

---*---

Thirteen returned, and a couple of his guys went and pushed shopping carts filled with hardware, clothing, and canned food into the Stadium, greeted Graham, and then continued off deeper into the building.

"Yo, Newbie." Thirteen called out, and then gestured to you, and then to the floor.

You quickly ran up to him.

"What's up?" you asked.

"Why were you talking to Chugger?" he asked. "Do you have any business with Graham?"

"Ah, no, I was just, you know. Meeting people, trying to learn a bit."

His eyes narrowed. "Well, alright. Yeah, it's... Actually good for you to learn who is who. But learn this well: you're in our group, alright? We're a squad, a family. Yeah? That's important. If anything goes wrong, I'll me - *we* will be the ones to cover your back."

You nodded.

"I expect the same from you for us." he concluded. "Don't get too... involved with Graham."

You nodded again.

---*---

Thirteen's squad arrived to the Kitchen group, and then returned back to their places, and started to eat regular food. Canned beans, corn, the works. They handed you a can of asparagus, and invited you to join them. Thirteen seemed to be in a good mood, enjoying the food enthusiastically.

You decide to share the meat.

"Hey, guys." you said, as you pulled the arms and leg out. "I got some human meat here. I think I've had enough myself for today, how about you guys have some?"

"Ohoooo, son!" one of them called out. "That's pretty chill of you, y'know?" he then looked at Thirteen. "I dunno if that's gonna be 'nuff for all of us. Whadda say, Thirt'? We give it to the trainees or something?"

Thirteen nodded. "Yeah, let's do that."

---*---

Your food got shared around, and a couple of the smaller guys started eating it, and thanked you as they did.

"Why aren't you guys eating human meat though?" you asked. "They have quite a lot there, no?"

"We're not exactly the, uh. Most dominant group." Thirteen explained. "We don't get much of a cut. Plus, we actually have to eat regular food now and then, you know. For now, this will have to do."

You nodded.

"What about that speed skill of yours?" you asked. "It's pretty damn cool."

"Adrenaline. To create a burst of hysterical strength." he recited, as if he had explained this several times before. "I'm not the only guy doing it, some others are too. I'm just the best at it."

"Huh. And that... Shi, ban, thing. What were those?"

"Katas." he said. "It's hard to think when you're in the... Rush. You're super hyped up, you can't think, and it's all a blur. So you have to go in like a sort of autopilot if you want to do anything beyond simple."

"Could... I, learn it?" you wondered.

"If you manage to eat what you're supposed to yeah. But everyone gets their cut, if you're not good enough, I doubt they'll let you have any besides the more unpopular cuts."

"Catch something good, prove that you're great, and you'll get the better stuff." he then added. "Don't try to get your own catches and then not share, though. Nobody likes someone who's stingy like that."

He then looked at the guys who were eating the meat you had given them "It seems like you're the opposite though." he chuckled. "You're a good guy."

(cont)
>>
---*---

The eating ended, and everyone seemed to start to attend their own things. Some went to chat with people, others seemed to work on barricading certain Stadium doors, and others went outside.

Juana was still out there, as well as all of the potential Church victims. You had managed to keep up your act of being a full-fledged Eater until now, but you still disliked the idea of embracing it. It wasn't sustainable after all - what would happen when there were no regular people left? Eaters would then eat smaller eaters? What would happen then? The same, until everyone is dead?

You had to figure out something. Chugger also seemed to be an issue, as well as whatever Graham was planning to do. The folk here seemed to be more at ease with you as well, and the watchers Thirteen had assigned to you seemed to be more at ease. They trusted you a bit now.

You decide to propose to go hunting.

"Hey, Thirteen, can I go hunting?" you asked "I want to prove that I can get that catch."

"Interested in the good cuts, now aren't you?" he chuckled. "Alright, kid. Here's how it goes down. Come with me."

---*---

You were lead to a section of the Stadium, where a huge Eater, chained to the walls, was working with contraptions. They looked like traps and weapons, but most of them were too large for you to carry or wield.

"Mary!" Thirteen called out. "This guy, he's gonna go hunting."

"What was your name, kid?" he whispered to you.

"Blake."

"Blake, yeah, he's gonna go." Thirteen added.

"Gooo... Huuunting..." the Giant eater muttered. "Only... If... Bring... me... Huma-"

"Nobody's falling for that, Mary." Thirteen said. "Graham said only rice and beans for you until you behave, and even then, you're going to upgrade from that to rice, beans AND desert."

The giant grumbled.

"C'mon, write him down, and lend him something good." Thirteen commanded.

"So... Small..." Mary pointed out.

"Yeah, we know." Thirteen replied. "Got anything his size? Traps, anything?"

Mary chuckled. "For hunting... What?... Babies?...Hoooh hooh hoooh...."

"Comedy gold, Mary" Thirteen underlined. "Now, what can you give us?"

---*---

The equipment was heavy, and considering that you were going to hunt to prove your worth, you were going to go alone, but supervised. You figured you had enough strength to carry *one* of their "smaller" tools. Each of them had different advantages.

>Bear trap: A massive metal jaw that would clam shut when the middle button was pressed. Has to be re-armed once sprung, but you don't have enough strength to do so. Already armed.

You decide to go with the crossbow. You hoisted the heavy thing onto your back by it strap, and marched out.

---*---

Mary had apparently assigned to you one of Graham's men to supervise you. It was a stoic, lanky man, whose only words to you was "Just do it, and do it quick."

You wandered outside. You had been told before that this area was especially full with Eaters, so you figured that finding one should be relatively easy. With lankyman following behind you, sneaking around much more loosely and deliberately than you, you left yourself hidden inside a nearby fast food restaurant.

You could see that there were two Eaters, each of them in different alleys, one of them was huge, pale and fleshy. His movements were slow, but he was much larger than the other one you've seen. He had a long tongue as well. The other was reddish, smaller, and moved in occasional, but sudden jumps. It was eyeless too.

You feared having to face both of them at the same time, if you were already at a disadvantage in 1v1, a 2v1 could be certain death.

You remained in your hiding spot, and thought thoroughly.

You decide to go for the red one. You prepared a bolt, and shot it towards it, producing a moderately loud 'fffwomp', but you missed. Quickly, you prepared a second shot, but she had turned towards you, and was starting to make several leaps in sequence to reach you. You had just enough time to load another shot and fire at point blank, lodging a bolt into its shoulder.

It leaned back in pain, but it was right there, right in front of you. You had moments to react, to do something, before having to engage in close quarters with her.

You also noticed that her missing eyes were product of a scar, not "natural" development. They had been torn out, and then the sockets had healed.

Right there, you JAM the staff into its head, causing the metal tube to pierce into its scarred eye sockets, and embed itself into its skull with the beast exhaling a quickly weakening yell. Blood splashed out of the other end, and you repositioned your grip on it to then thrust it deeper.

Then, the Eater dropped to the ground. You had made it! Victory! It was dead!

Just in case, you stabbed it again in the skull. Its not like the brain is going to be eaten or anything anyway.

---*---

With a remarkable amount of strength, your lanky companion carried the entire Eater back home, with you helping as well.

It was then brought into field, near the Kitchen area. Everyone kept on working, but they peered with curiosity at what was going on.

The lanky guy then spoke to Graham, who overviewed from his position in the upper rows of seats.

"The kid's just lucky." he supervisor said. "But there is some talent in there to back it up."

Graham looked at you. Thirteen was present as well, with his arms crossed beside you, but he didn't look at Graham, instead he opted to look at the others with pride.

"Tell Mary to assign him Thirteen's group rations." he said. "Carry on, everyone, don't get distracted."

Thirteen patted you on the back, and held out a fist at his hip for you. You fistbumped in return, and he enthusiastically punched your fist back as he laughed.

"Yeah!!" he exclaimed. "You did it, man!"

ou noticed that Graham had left the upper seats, and was being carried down to the lower floor, where he then rolled the wheels to approach your catch. He then look the Eater's hand, and started to observe it closely, and started to check the rest of it as well..

"It's female, so take out the usual. Then let him keep 10% of it of his choice." he noted, and then with a scalpel, started to take out small samples. "Keep the bone too, don't serve it" he then mentioned. "Polycythemia, excessive blood production. Might be useful."

---*---

All of the female-specific organs (or what remained of them) where extracted, as well as the brain, and certain glands you couldn't identify. You had the corpse in front of you, laid out, and the lady behind it with the knife was waiting.

"So what's it gonna be?" she asked. "This cut here is delicious" she then pointed out, outlining the inner thigh with the knife. "Or maybe you'd like some heart? Uh, what was that Thirteen liked... This thing over here? Above the kidney. Adroonal gland? Oh. Ribs are really nice too."

Back, writing. Also got food and everything done, so I'm gonna QM until I fall asleep.

What do you guys think of the quest so far? What's been good? What's been bad?
>>
>>647286
Been enjoying it alot so far.
>>
>>647286
The Dialogue can be improved but that's the only part I feel is lacking, I'm definitely enjoying it though.

I hope the plot kicks in at some point.
>>
>>647286
it's real good
>>
>>647286
I think it's interesting. I look forward to manipulating the many sides and factions in this quest to best benefit us. The idea of having a relatively normal- sized body and yet ruling over this new world is thrilling (in way other than simple sheer strength and brute force)--the story of a hero and humanity's new king. It would be cool if you started another quest series after all if this is done and finished, taking place in the same world but after we've dominated it (If we do) and made our self the prominent-most figure. Anyway, what you're doing is cool.
>>
>>647286
It's been pretty awesome, I'm looking forward to becoming a writhing, horrific mass of destruction. But like another anon mentioned, the dialogue could use a little work.
>>
>>647296
On this, I think the dialogue is pretty alright. But its very casual and innocent. Your personality reflects onto your characters much too greatly, hampering what should be distinct characters. But dont worry about it. You'll get it over time. Try to try here and there but dont force it.
>>
>>647286
This is perfectly fine. I'd personally like some more persuasion checks or awareness checks and the like but the current format is satisfactory. The ambiance is very nice and you thankfully are not making it gritty as fuck (cannibals are still people thank god).
>>
>>647322
>Just starting to get an understanding of how to survive here
>Anon suddenly thinks we're going to become king of da wasteland n sheit
Your goals might be a bit too lofty at this point in time, anon

"The Adrenal gland" you said, as you pointed to its area. "The heart too, and... If there's leftovers of the eyes, that too."

"Gotcha. Right up!" the woman cheerily announced, and stared to expertly slice the monster's guts, and extracted those pieces for you. She served it to you on a plastic plate as well.

You looked at the blood-washed, rubbery pieces of flesh, and took a deep breath.

---*---

General Physique: 6.5 -> 7
Adrenal Gland: 0 -> Adrenal Gland: 2

---*---

That same feeling permeated you again. But you remained rather calm, and simply braced yourself as the changes took place. You could feel your overall self grow, slightly, as well as your heart and something in your back swell. This time it felt less intimidating, as you already expected where to feel changes, and more or less how they would be.

It was still very uncomfortable though. The feeling of slowly turning into a monster of a kind wasn't pleasant to think about, however, the thought of being unable to fight for your survival in this horrid world felt even worse.

--*---

After eating, you went to Thirteen. He sitting in one of the stadium's chairs, sewing some clothing which had been partially torn apart.

"Hey." you greeted, and sat beside him. "How did that happen? A fight?"

"Yeah" he replied, peering up to you for a moment, but then back to the clothing. "Some Eater, you know. the usual."

You nodded. "Hey, uh. I was wondering if you could teach me some of that speed stuff."

His eyes went to you with a raised eyebrow.

"At least the basics." you added in, leaning your head.

Thirteen inhaled, and then sighed out heavily, and looked at you. "I'm a very busy guy, you know." he started off. "But if you want to control it, the first thing you've got to do i-"

He interrupted himself by suddenly punching out a fist, and then holding it in front of your face. You jolted up in surprise.

"You felt that rush, right now, didn't you?" he said. "That's your instinct. That's the adrenaline pumping."

He lowered his fist. "That's also the problem. You see, you can normally only get the result unconsciously. You can't deliberately put yourself into that hype mode."

"How do you do it, then?" you asked.

"I pat those glands, kinda get them flowing." he said. You remembered that before your combat, he actually did hammer his back with his fists. "But it's really all subjective. I focus, I get into my zone, and I make it happen. It's hard to explain."

"But you know like when you eat?" he added in "That warmth? That... Feeling? Focus on that, like if it was a trail, and catch onto your kidneys. Well, not really your kidneys. Your adrenal glands. Concentrate on them, and try to make yourself anxious. Try to make time go slower around you."

"I'm a really bad teacher." he chuckled. "I hope it helps you out, though."

You shrugged. "Yeah. I hope so too."

At least now you had some kind of instruction or guide to go off of to practice that ability.

---*---

It was time to sleep, and one of Thirteen's lackeys gave you a spare blanket which you wrapped around yourself.

---*---

It was morning, and everyone's daily routine seemed to start up again. You stretched and stood up. Thirteen was eating a bun of bread - breakfast and had a large bag with more, and was handing them out to the group.

You ate the bun solemnly. You fantasized for a bit how it would be to have a gang of your own, to understand more about everything that was going on. Some kind of place you could call home, some kind of stability. Not having to fight to survive anymore.

But for now, you had to live pragmatically. You could never set something up like that if you were killed by an Eater before then. Of course, being powerful was amazing, and useful to reach that purposes, but you didn't want to fight forever. You wanted to reach a conclusion, and a good one, but that seemed very far away right now. But not entirely out of reach. People like Juana existed, that gave you hope, hope to endure.

---*---

"Graham wants to assault the Church group" you heard Thirteen inform regretfully, his fist clenched tightly. "Biggest amount of easily available meat in the neighborhood."

"Yeah, but... Isn't that, like, your old home, man?" one of his men replied.

"It is." he said. "And since I'm the one who knows them best, he wants me to be his lieutenant for the operation."

"He's doing it to fuck with you, amigo" another guy replied. "Totally doing it to fuck with you."

"Yeah" he said. "I don't like Graham, and I don't like the Church people even more. But I don't want any harm to come to them, you know? They're still like. Fucking family or something."

"What do we do, man?"

"I don't know" Thirteen said. "But we have to give Church scouting reports back to Graham anyway, or something. Some kind of result."

---*---

Thirteen, after some discussion with the rest, left to sit alone in the higher part of the Stadium.

>Mention that you know someone called Juana, and that you'd like to have her join the group, or at least, find her.

Seconding the rescue of Juana
>>
You decide to go tell Graham what you knew.

You approached the disproportionate man in the wheelchair, and greeted him.

"Ah. Blake, yes?" he replied. "What brings you here?"

"I've got information about the Church people" you said. "I've met a girl called Juana, hidden in the sewers. She told me quite a bit."

He rose an eyebrow.

"Oh really now?" he said, leaning towards you with a smile an a raised eyebrow. "Please, tell me more."

"Well, they're changing policies. They're no longer, well. Puritans. They've been considering eating the... Less fortunate. Eating people who, have, well. Disabilities."

He went stiff. Then he looked at you. "This... Juana told you this, right?" he said.

"Yes." you replied.

"I'm grateful that you've told me this." he said. "That's actually a very, very crucial detail."

He put a hand on your shoulder. "You've... Yo- If what you're saying is true, you've possibly saved a lot of our people's lives." he said. "I'll certainly look into it, thank you."

"Anything more you'd like to bring up?" he then tagged on. "Unless... You have any questions of your own, of course. I consider myself quite the expert in a lot of topics - I'm sure I can help a neophyte like you get the hang of things. I've seen that you're following... Thirteen's steps. He might not be the best, howdoIputthis.... Role model, but his abilities are certainly useful, no doubt."

You decide to ask about the brain.

"How does the brain work, exactly. In regards to the Eater phenomenon." you asked.

He chuckled. "You already know, of course, that eating it causes you a lot of mental harm. What is it then that you're interested in?"

"What happens when you eat too many people?" you asked. "I know that larger eaters are more prone to, well. Mental difficulties."

"Yes, yes" he chuckled. "The general effect." he underlined. "What about it?"

"Is there a way to avoid that? Perhaps even a way to avoid it when you're eating brains, specifically?"

He looked at you with a raised eyebrow. "Interested in taking that path?"

"Just curious" you replied.

"Well. I've done several experiments, myself" he said. "It is possible to have the composite mind work, Mary is one of my breakthroughs. She's perhaps one of the most intelligent Eaters of her size."

"You see, a large Eater's mind has such a jumble in the neo-cortex, the outer areas - you know, the kind that's *different* in each person, that the only more-or-less functional part left is the more primitive part because we all tend to share that."

"Mary is the product of repeated, very precise lobotomy" he said. "Quite the feat, if I can say so myself, to get a result as stable as hers."

"I see. I've also heard that... Being related, by blood, can also reduce that 'jumbling' effect." you mentioned.

"Yes." he replied. "Similar genetic blueprint. Not perfect, but certainly doable. Plus, with enough willpower, you should be able to control the effects as well, regardless of shared heritage."

"Willpower?"

"Consider it more like, deliberate body control." he said. "I don't like the term 'willpower' either, it sounds too spiritual. Think of it like a kind of discipline. Like the kind an... Actor, does? Or a ventriloquist? A bilingual translator? A good example is the kind of art Thirteen performs, for example, when he uses his extraordinary speed."

You nodded. "I see."

"How did you come up with these doubts?" he then asked. "They're certainly very peculiar."

"Pardon? Chelsea?" he replied.

"Yeah, Chelsea." you clarified.

He nodded.

But then went silent, and approached you slowly.

"How much... Does she know?" he asked.

"About what?" you countered.

Graham leaned back, and looked aside, thinking.

"Do you know why she's been given a specific plan?" he then stated, after a while.

You look at him, and he at you, raising his eyebrows expectantly. Why would he formulate his questions precisely like that?

"No, not really." you said. "I was kind of hoping you would tell me."

He exhaled, and chuckled.

"So then, Blake." he then announced. "I've got a deal to propose to you."

"If she's off telling these things to strangers, she must be pretty alone. The others must be ostracizing her. I want you to do this: become her friend, and let me know how she feels about things, report regularly. Having her leaving off or not following the plan would be horrible. Have her join Thirteen's gang too, even. Just keep her around."

"Then, when the time comes, I'll ask you to bring her to me." he said.

"She's part of a very important experiment." he said. "More important than Mary, even."

"In exchange, I'll teach you how to use that speed ability of yours. I saw that you chose the Adrenal Gland. Good choice, if I may so so myself. A very good hunting tool."

"So, can I trust you with this?" he asked. "Do *you* consider yourself trustworthy, Blake?"

Yes but I want more human meat rations for thirteens squad instead. I would greatly like for the security of my friends to be bolstered by a stronger group.

For anyone reading this and wondering why, if we can better the relations with our personal squad we can have an group that will be loyal to us if there an re politics that cause a splintering in the group, we can likely leave with an re bigger splinter if we show loyalty. This is crucial given it seems that the reverend may have something to do with graham and all around graham seems very shady.

"Yes." you said. "However, I'd like confirmation that Chugger won't be harmed. And if possible, Juana as well."

He chuckled. "Of course Chelsea won't be harmed. She'll be very blissful and happy once it's all over, I can assure you. That's what she *agreed* to. If you want Juana, you can have her. One person less, one more. Doesn't matter too much. But if she's a bother, she will have to be placed on the butcher table. We don't keep incompetents around here. I hope you keep that in mind."

That would explain Thirteen's "test" before, you guessed.

"Alright. With that confirmed, I'd like in exchange more rations for Thirteen's squad, as compensation for the task. Meat and viscerals, the good stuff. "

"The *whole* squad?" he asked. "You're asking for an awful lot here."

"Yes."

He looked aside, then back at you. "2% more, only during the length of the task."

You inhaled. "5%" you stated.

"3%. You're basically babysitting, Blake, why should I give more?" Graham replied. "It's a lowest grade job. Everyone else has to do something more important - you're doing it because you're right now at the lowest position. 3% is overly generous. Be grateful."

"3% it is then." you agreed, and offered a handshake. Graham complied.

"Agreed." the man concluded.

---*---

You felt relieved as you returned back to Thirteen's area. Three percent more human meat you guys! You never thought you would actually be this happy to receive *human flesh* from *actual people*, but it was progress none the less. Plus, Juana might actually be alright now. There was some hope.

However, you had to supervise Chugger. You didn't know where to find her, so you went to the kind lady you met before, and asked her about Chelsea's whereabouts.

"Napping, likely" she said. "To do digestion. She's got this meal coming up though, so she better wake up soon."

You blinked. Absorption/digestion of human mass was rather quick, if not instantaneous. While her huge bosom covered some of the view, you recalled that she never seemed to actually have a full tummy, despite eating all the time. In fact, it was likely narrower than anyone else's.

"But how? You.. Don't need to digest people. It just goes." you countered.

"Figure of speech." she explained. "You really can't eat endlessly anyway, even if its people. How else would you like, put that into words?"

"Ah, hm."

Chugger soon woke up, and soon walked over to her regular spot at the Stadium benches, and started to do work with her blender again. Meanwhile, you had been chatting with the butcher lady, and had figured out that her name was Rachel, and had lost her husband in the initial outburst, but that she was happy to have found a new home here with the rest of people, despite how they do things around here.

You looked at the pigtails girl. Deliberately trying to become friends with someone sounded like something very awkward to do, but you figured that as long as you could keep tabs on her status, it should be alright.

Thirteen whistled towards you, and you looked behind.

"Scouting mission in half an hour" he yelled at you. "You're coming this time."

You nodded back.

You decide to go check on Chugger. You went up, sat nearby the massive Eater, and started to chew down some bread.

"Hello. So, how does it taste?" you then asked. She turned her head to look at you, and then you made a drinking gesture, and pointed to her jar.

"Ah..." she then said. "Sweet, actually."

She pulled out a couple of the pieces, which covered in blood and guts looked like any other piece of flesh that was there, but then she sucked on it, cleaning it, and showed it to you.

"Brownies." she declared.

"Oh." you chuckled, now wondering what human guts mixed with brownies tasted like.

"I got more brownies here too." she then added, and showed a small plastic bag with them inside. "I make them. Want one?"

You shrugged, and took one. "Thank you" you mentioned, as you took a bite, and immediately tasted a cloy amount of sugar, chocolate and some powerful mix of spices. You coughed a bit - which you suppressed with a closed mouth and poise, and then breathed for air. You cleared your throat. "Pretty strong. Yummy though."

Chugger smiled back. "Want more?"

"Aaah, no, I'm fine." you replied. Likely the reason why the brownies were like that was because they were designed to be diluted into that blender of hers with the rest.

Chugger continued to merrily chug more blend, as usual, and very slowly grow.

"So, what's your story?" you asked. "How did you arrive here?"

She lowered her jar, and stared forwards. "I... Came here with my family. I had a sister. My mom and dad too."

She gulped down another slurp. "They're gone now. Graham... tells me that they got killed outside by an Eater attack."

"Your whole family, except you, in a single attack, outside?" you asked. "Why did they go outside?"

She shrugged. "Graham tells me that they tried to escape."

Her eyes narrowed. "But I know my family. My mom, my dad, my sister. They would've never tried to leave me behind like that. So w-why?"

Tears started to form in her eyes, but she then immediately drank down the jar, and continued to keep it held up until it was empty. Then she lowered it.

"Luckily, Graham saved me" she said.

"He offered you a deal, yeah?" you figured.

"Yeah. I was alone, without my parents and my sister, so I was planned to be eaten by the group. I'm not... like, really good, at things. If-if I ate! I would though! But... I hadn't..."

"But Graham said that I could eat all I wanted as long as I ate what he told me to." she added. "So... I did."

She blended more of the mix.

"I see." you replied.

After some further small talk with Chugger and getting to take a brownie of hers with you, you arrived just in time to leave with Thirteen's squad to the outside.

"C'mon, we don't have time." he said, as he beckoned you across the streets. "The fuck were you doing with Chugger anyway?"

You looked aside and scratched your temple.

"Yeah, you're gonna have to explain me more of that later." he said, as he lead the march.

---*---

The group arrived at the Church area, and attempted to remain hidden behind broken down cars and rubble. You looked around, and sighed heavily. It was nostalgic in a way. You could see the sewer lid you had met Juana in before.

"Check their resources." Thirteen reminded them in a loud whisper. "What they have around, and how much of it. Let's go."

Thirteen's team quickly dispersed with that order.

"What about me?" you said, waiting behind a van with him.

"You're sticking here with me." he replied. He leaned in. You could feel his breath on your ears.

"Why were you with Chugger before?" he hissed. "Didn't I tell you to not get involved with Graham? Yet there you were, right. In. Front. Of. Me."

"I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to... mock you, Thirteen." you apologized.

"Then *why*." he demanded.

Explain that after we gave Graham some intel and asked him some questions he asked us to just look after chugger for a little while in return for the squad getting 3% more. We only took the deal because it benefited everyone and most importantly we felt sorry for Chugger.

"I gave Graham intel about the Church people, and he gave me intel." you explained "He asked me to look after Chugger too, and in exchange, we will get 3% more of our current share."

He leered at you.

"I did it because it's a huge good for the group." you further said. "And most importantly, I feel sorry for Chugger. I'm sorry Thirteen for messing around like, but I did it for a good reason."

He looked at you, silent.

"...And I'm grateful, Blake." he admitted.

Then, he poked you heavily in your sternum. "But this mission right here is now your chance to prove who you're really standing with, because all of this is shady as *fuck*." he said. "Why does Chugger even need supervision in the first place, all she does is sit on her huge ass and eat all day."

"And hey, Blake, if you want to leave, leave. The Church is right there. Heck, you don't even need to go with the Churchies, just get the fuck out of here. But if you're with us, you're with us."

"You know Graham, don't you?" he then said. "So figure out intel that we can tell him which he will think is great, but that won't compromise the Church people."

"You want to save them?" you asked.

"Just coexist." Thirteen clarified. "Call me a fucking hypocrite for wanting to protect non-eaters, but those people took care of me. So now, I've got to do what I can to take care of them."

You tell Thirteen about Juana, and about what she had told you about the new inner politics of the Church.

"Really now?" Thirteen replied, wide-eyed. "Huh. That's actually very useful to know." he chuckled. "I don't think we should tell Graham his just now. Let's see how it pans out."

"She's around here, somewhere." you told him. "Most likely the sewers. Although she did mention that she didn't like it there. She might've moved."

You continued off explaining how the other two men they had killed were Church scouts, and that they had taken bites from a corpse.

"Yeah, stuff like that was happening too when I was around." Thirteen said. "People were shit."

---*---

You went to the sewer again, climbed down, and looked around.

"B-Blake?" you then heard. It was Juana.

She peered from deeper down the tunnel. "I-it's you!" she cheered. "You're back!"

You chuckled. "Yes. It's been a bit."

Juana held her forehead. "How have you been?! After those Eater guys took you, I thought you were dead or something!"

"I'm pretty alright" you mentioned. "How're you?"

She froze for a moment, and blinked. She laughed uneasily. "I'm... Missing an arm." she tried to joke.

"Nuh...Noh... Nothing I can't live with." she mentioned. She showed you a cauterized numb, where her elbow was supposed to be.

"G-Good people still exist, Blake." she then adamantly declared. "I don't mind if I have to look like this, I'll still fight and keep on going to find more of them, and help them."

You smiled back warmly. Juana was always so luminescent like this.

"So, was it... an Eater attack?" you asked.

"Yeah" she said. "I was trying to get more food."

"It's so dangerous to be alone, Blake" Juana then added. "It's incredible how you've escaped from the Eaters. I'm.."

She burst into tears. "...Snff.. so happee you'reback."

You approached her, and put her head on your shoulder. "It's alright now, Juana."

"snff... You have to tell me how you escaped! How you came back here!" she cheered. "You must be tired, no? I'll get you some food, wait here!"

Tell her that after we were caught we were forced to either join a gang or get eaten by them. It wasn't pretty and we hated it, but we've forced ourselves through the whole thing, all the time remembering she was left there alone and aiming to get back. (Stress the part where we didn't want her to die alone, which was a huge part of our motivation, besides staying alive ourselves)

Tell her that the organized eaters are planning a raid on the church people, and that we might try to leg it when hell breaks loose.

>>
>>651764
>Tell her in an ultimatum with the eaters, we traded information on the Church's current state for our safety and protection. But only after learning that thr leader was once apart of the Chruch he left, however, sick of what the Chruch was becoming. But he still cares about the churchpeople, feeling indebted to them like family. In his own words, he wants to coexist. He's a little dumb but he's definitely a good guy.
>Also tell her that we've secured her safety so if she wants to come, she can. But we'd prefer that she doesn't in case things go south. There are different factions within their shelter--the stadium. And they are still eaters. She may be uncomfortable with the blatant cannibalism. And then theres a man named Graham. But the choice is up to her.

"I've actually joined the Eaters." you tell her.

"Y-you what?"

"I've joined those Eaters" you repeated. "I did it to survive, Juana. I did't want to die, I didn't want to get into further trouble. I picked the best choice I could find to be safe, and to get you safe as well."

"Y-You're just like the Church people, aren't you?" she muttered.

"No, I'm just being realistic, Juana." you countered. "I wish I could do everything the 'right' way, but in the circumstances in the which we are now, I don't have a choice but to do what I have to do."

"They're not all bad people either. There's a guy called Thirteen who leads the squad I'm part of. He's a great guy, and he wants to make sure that the Church people go unharmed. The Stadium's leader, Graham, wants to assault it."

"Graham, like the Reverend?" she asked.

"Yeah."

"Maybe they're... Family, or something" Juana pointed out.

"Regardless." you then said. "I'd like you to come with me. At least away from here, to somewhere safe. If you can be near the Stadium, I'll be able to visit you and all."

"I'll... Think about it." she answered.

"There isn't much time." you said. "I have to leave with the rest soon, and that place is surrounded by larger Eaters - the only way we can get there is if we go in a group. At least, come with me Juana, and take your decision later, alright?"

"Ah-alright..." she muttered.

---*---

"You already know the policy." Thirteen told you, as you arrived to the Stadium's doors with Juana. The rest of the group had given her plenty of glances already, and had commented among themselves how she 'wouldn't make it' or how 'she is sure to be butchered'. "She's going to have to be tested, and proven to be useful to the group, or she'll have to be killed and cut up."

Juana was stiff. Her breathing was heavy, and she looked around anxiously. This wasn't the kind of place she wanted to be, but you didn't know what else you could tell her to put her at ease. She just had to get used to it, you assumed.

"So what should we do with her?" Thirteen asked you with regret. "I'll help you all I can, if you don't come up with anything soon, I'll have to hand her in like any other regular human that we've catched."

The sad thing is that this is probably the best option. She'll get randomly hunted if hidden near the stadium and found out if hidden.

Still, even if we fake the results, she's still with only one hand- we'll have to at least negotiate heavily with Graham for this shit. Something like we working double for her and giving up all bonuses we got. Still, that comes later.

"Juana, take the test." you said, "You are needed here. Someone like you can change things. You see things differently, you have the courage to actually take a stand."

"You know what's right." you said. "You can change things."

"I'm just a coward, Blake." she said.

"No, you left the Church, didn't you? You cauterized your own arm, didn't you?"

"Believe in yourself, Juana. You can change the people that are here."

"But they're Eaters," she said.

"*I* am an Eater." you declared, and slammed a palm on your chest. "But I'm still a person, Juana."

"You're right, Blake." she then said. "I shouldn't abandon them, even if they're Eaters. They're still humans! They're still people!."

"That's it!" you cheered.

"They might have the wrong ideas, but I can show them the way! I have to give them the option to change, I mustn't deny them that chance! They can be forgiven!

T-They can change, can't they?"

"Yes, Juana." you said. "Just give them the opportunity."

---*---

In the hallway of the Stadium, Juana was put in front of Thirteen, with Graham overseeing the fight. She retained her coat on her, concealing that she was missing an arm. The Eater put himself into a stance.

"Ready?" Thirteen said, without much confidence.

"Ready." Juana replied.

"Ten... shi!" he said, and disappeared.

In a flash, Juana was struck in the gut. Thirteen didn't stop.

"Shi, shi!" - Juana's jaw was punched downwards, sending her stepping backwards, and then struck up again from the opposite side. She stumbled backwards, and lost her balance, falling to the ground.

"I'm sorry, Juana. It's ov-"

"No!" Juana declared. "I'm not done yet, Thirteen."

She stood up again.

"Not done."

Thirteen rose an eyebrow, and looked at the rest, unsure how to proceed.

"Continue." Graham prompted. Thirteen nodded.

Juana attempted to imitate Thirteen's stance.

"Ten - shi!" Thirteen enunciated again, but Juana braced herself and endured his strike to her ribs, and then, threw a punch of her own.

However, in a swift movement, Thirteen caught her outstretched arm with his hands and elbows into an armlock.

"You're done." he said, with regret.

"Not..." Juana said, as she reeled backwards.

"Juana, I'm sorry, bu-"

"DONE!"

There was a loud pop sound, and you could see Juana slam her skull into Thirteen's, as she dislocated the entire arm she had left to get the reach she needed.

The redhead stumbled backwards, holding his forehead. He blinked, and looked at her, to find her changing at him and then thrusting a kick up into his gut. She prepared for another, but then, Thirteen held her foot.

"Juana." he said, wide-eyed, staring at her foot, and then at her. "You... pass."

"You... Actually pass." he repeated to himself, as if he needed to confirm it himself for real as well.

"Impressive display of recklessness" Graham judged, after Juana was given proper first aid. "But you're a cripple, Juana, despite your courage."

"You're missing your arm." he said. "What are you doing to do about that?"

"I'm a hard worker." Juana said. "I'll do what it takes. I'll contribute. I can help."

Graham removed his glasses, and stared to wipe them. "This is a very difficult decision for me, Juana." he said. "Your performance has been impressive, yes, but at what cost? Your will is great, and it commands respect, but what I need is talent, ability, productivity. Not one-armed heroes."

He put his glasses on. "But I can make an exception with you." he said. "If you accept a condition."

"Your ovaries" he said. "Surgically removed."

"My ...*what*? Why!?" she protested.

"It's important." he said. "More important than you can imagine right now, I believe."

"But that is my condition." Graham concluded. "You can stay here for 24 hours to decide."

"C-can't we arrange something else? Really, Graham, I can-"

"No." he said, and started to leave. "Twenty-four hours, Juana. Think about it well."

You go to Juana, and bring her food and water to have. She was missing an arm, and her only good arm was in bandages, so you had to feed her yourself directly. After a short meal, and her thanking you, you went to Graham. You noticed that Thirteen's group looked at you and gave you thumbs up, as they were given human meat to eat. Your deal with Graham was giving its results.

"Nothing, I'm telling you." Graham told you, after you insisted and offered waiving the extra cut you've earned, working for him more time, and even becoming his personal henchman.

"Plus, you're working for me already." he pointed out. "Given the Chuch information you gave me earlier, and the confirmation that Thirteen's scouting mission has given me, I'm going to have to do a change of plans."

"Tomorrow, I'm going to need you to bring morphine and midwifery tools from the Hospital." he said.

"Make sure she eats all she can as well." he added. "And at night, when she's sleepy, you'll bring her to me, as you promised you would."

"Got it?" he underlined.

You nodded.

I like the whole quest to be honest. Interesting idea, engaging plot. Dialogue is slightly stilted in places, but rarely.

>Warn Thirteen about the plan Graham had arranged for you all tomorrow.

I don't like this. I don't like this at ALL. I smell the mother of all rats. I think Graham's plan may be to turn Chugger into a breeder, or otherwise direct our evolution as a group. We're kind of like the Kroot now, from Warhammer 40k and Graham is trying to be a shaper.

Frankly, if I'd found this thread sooner, I'd have advocated getting the fuck out already. He's essentially running us like a big experiment. The group is just a convenience that allows him a diverse sample size. And human-ish or not, they're decidedly INHUMAN in their attitude towards others.

Honestly, I say we take Juana, Chugger and possibly 13 and get out while we can. I have a really, REALLY bad feeling about all this. We might be cursed, but we need to avoid becoming a monster, in body, mind or spirit.
>>
>>672311
Actually, come to that... Is it just human meat that changes people? Could animals grant other traits too? If we really are Kroot-like, then that's possibly worth exploring.
