You are Purps; an amnesiac starborn. Things have been pretty hectic since you woke up on a random hill - thus far you have killed a midget rebel, had a dance off with a foxman, went undercover with your new friend to find who mugged your new boss, had a weird dream, fought a crazy cannibal priest, died, came back at the cost of some memories and emotions, killed the cannibal priest who killed you - then you decided that you're going to get your maimed friend a new magical eye.

Minerva's fire burns in your hand. The locks melt away as your body loses cohesion. You smile in pride as you wake up with a start. Hugging yourself in the corner of the cabin wagon's common room.

"Are you okay?" You hear Luc ask someone outside.

"I'm fine kid. Just tell me how the Ghenrisian schism of faith effected the Munisian invasion." You hear Lex say, with a tremor in his voice.

"The split in the faith of the people led to a split in the hierarchy of the military." Luc intones with perfect precision, "The Munisian leadership promised The Astral pantheon that they would be welcome and their enemies eradicated in the empire. Thus around eighteen thousand Ghenrisian troops defected at the climatic battle in the Paburo mountains."

Lexington nods impressed, he exhales from a cigarette, "Name the two chief Dieties, adopted from Ghenris."

He pauses, apparently Remy hadn't had him memorise this part, "Uhm. Minerva... and Octavius?"

"Good. It's pronounced Oc-Ta-Ve-Us in stead of Oc-Tay-Ve-Us though." The doctor scratches hi beard as you approach.

"Do you need any help." You ask flatly.

"Well, I'm sure I've bored him enough today. You wouldn't mind taking care of the martial lessons would you? I'm a bit old for it now."

Luc goes to his pack which has a short sword strapped to it. "Not a problem." You say, which allows Lex to head back to the wagon from his seat by your extinguised fire.

"Purps..." You look over your shoulder waiting for the question. But his eyes change and his face changes into the unfamiliar expression of being flustered. "Nevermind. I'm going to make you something so you can work the wagon too.

You flash a thumbs up over your shoulder as you approach Luc. He's drawn his shortsword and... oh boy. Remy has been far too kind on this boy's training, his stance - his posture. Everything is all wrong. You could kill him six different ways in one shot - barehanded.

You stare at Luc coldly, apathy radiating out of you. You beckon him forward, "Try to kill me."

He gulps and raises his sword into what you think is supposed to be a guard, you let your buzzsaw drop to the gorund with a thunk and Luc charges you.

His sword is low, he couldn't bring it round in time to block any attacks and as his weight is all wrong to slash sideways like he wants to. You raise you foot and kick him in the face so hard he bounces back before coming to a stop.

He stays down for longer than you expect, but he fights his way to his feet breathing heavily. You raise and eyebrow and walk towrds him. He attempts his guard again, much to sloppy. You send your saw into his sword, unrevved it sends him to a knee. You're a lot stronger than him, but had he held that sword even remotely correct he'd have blocked it.

He dives for the sword and you pull it to you after wrapping it in your wire. You hold it in your left hand and your saw in your right.

Luc looks at you in something approaching terror. Your face must be a sight when you're as impassive as this despite being in combat. You move forward and swing the sword down at him lazily. He cries out as he rolls backwards to his feet. He gets into a fighting stance, one which is decent...

You wonder why he is struggling so much armed when his movement, stance and even his spacing all improved without it. "This is pathetic Luc. You can do better." You saw becomes a polearm and you rest it on your shoulder. "Now show me something worthy of an attendant. Because I don't know if you'll survive a hit form this."

You're seriously concerned that he might not dodge this. But if he's going to be fighting that boy he was with or other rebels... he needs to feel killing intent, needs to be able to operate in combat.

You dash forward, moving quickly despite holding back. He mirrors your moevement, little legs working overtime as he ducks your horizontal slash. Polesaw screeching over his jet hair. He moves inside your range and you block a punch with the handle before punting him into the air. You run up the wagon, launching yourself off into the air to intercept...

He is falling as you leap towards him, eyes widening as your spinning saw moves to bisect him.

The world goes blue for a second and when colour returns he is on his knees in a cloud of dust. He runs to his sword while you gracefully land and turn,

His knees are shaking as he points the sword at you.

"good enigma use. You're doing well to be standing." You say as claws form on your hands and you dash in, Luc swings the sword like a lump of metal and you trap it between the blades of your claw. With your other hand you slash across his chest, levaing three paralell lines. Luc wisely drops his sword and backs off before you stab, but you give chase with a fencer's lunge.

He dodges and tries to punch you, you snap your head forward instead. Ramming it into his, he begins to fall backwards. You throw your claws behind him, digging them into the ground, twisting - you wrap him in wires suspending him from the ground in a cocoon.

"I think I've made my point." You say. "Your father has not been hard enough on your in combat training. Were you to fight your sword friend or another rebel you'd die."

Embaressed tears appear at the corner of Luc's eyes. You soundly humiliated him, broke him down. Good. Because now you build him back up.

"That weapon is horrible for you. Your weapon is an extension of self, you use it by instinct. But everything you did was concious and forced. So no more shortsword." He nods as you begin to think.

I suppose I can support ranged. His form seemed better unarmed so I would go for gauntlets if he wasn't a weakling. With his enigma he will have plenty of time to line up shots too.

"Hey Lexington. You have any spare weapons?" You shout.

The words "Box under desk 7" appear out of thin air. You toss Luc a waterskin which he begins gulping down and venture into the cabin. Mouthing the number of each desk you pass, you eventually come to 7. Whereupon you are confronted with three boxes;

You drag out a mahogany chest, the box surprisingly light. In fact if Lexginton hadn't told you it was a weapon box you'd have assumed it was empty.

And when you bring it to Luc, you kick open the lid and slide it to him. He gets up and walks over to it, confused. "Um, there's nothing in here."

You join him at the open side of the chest and sigh. "Doc, why is it empty!?" You shout.

"It's a personal plane! It just looks empty! Like the cabin idiot!" He screams back from somewhere within the wagon-cabin.

"So I just stick my arm in?" Luc muses to himself as he does so.

You hear rummaging and metal clashing gainst metal before he pulls it out. A sniper rifle.

It's old, with wooden finish instead of metal in most places, but Luc looks overjoyed. More than that, as he puts it to his shoulder he looks comfortable with it.

"You're on Luc. But you won't hit me." You get to around five hundred metres when you hear a shot ring out, you sidestep it casually. but there's already another shot on the way, forcing you to cartwheel through the air.

You crouch low, anticipating the next shot correctly. The rate of fire a testament to his efficiency with the weapon. After that high shot the world goes quiet, you think he's repositioning from the wagon, giving you some time.

You scratch your chin and sigh, you might need to take this seriously.

You crouch low and begin moving through the grass. Your heart starts beating in your ears whilst you maneuever through the brush. Stealth isn't your usual forte, but against a sniper you'll make do. The wagon is to your right, as is the sun. If you were a sniper you wouldn't want the sun in your eyes so you think he would have went to his right...

You hear movement close by. It's an animal of some kind, but the noise could attract Luc to your position if his hearing is good enough. It's disturbingly easy for you to thrust your hand into the undergrowth and crush the rodent's throat.

Moving as swiftly as you dare you step over alog and towards a slightly elevated position that reminds you of the hill you woke up on. The sightlines across the plains are excellent, every little movement of the tall grass being visible. The sun would be behind him so no glint of the scope would give him away. Plus, he also has a getaway in the direction he came by sliding down the wet grass.

You bring your saw to hand, taking a step forward ready to move up on the hill. You stop when you hear a gunshot and suddenly your left hand stings, the little bastard nailed you right in the palm.

You suck in air right through your teeth as you examine the wound. Clear through and through, thank Minerva. Impressive, he managed to hit you in one of the few places with little risk of death.

The world goes blue fr a second and Luc is beside you all the colour gone from his face; "Purps are you okay?"

"Good shot you little bastard. How did you-" You say through grit teet. You ruffle his hair with your non shot hand which reassures him.

"I set up on that hill you were heading towards. The sun was behind me, but I could see every move you made by the grass moving. I could have shot earlier but I didn't want to hoot unless I knew I wouldn't kill you."

"You had me the whole time?" You can barely believe what you're hearing.

"Yeah."

"alright a bet is a bet." You dust yourself off and begin walking back to the wagon. You're 90% sure Remy is going to be awake and terrified due to the whole gunshots while his son is missing thing. "So what do you want me to do?"

The kid blushes and starts stuttering. He's bright red. You wonder what he - Oh

"Luc don't worry I won't be mad. Just say what you want." You try to be sympathetic with your voice, but it's just a slightly higher variation of your monotone. Really need to practice that more.

He murmurs something... bright red

"What?" You say.

"A kiss." he repeats.

You bend down and brush his lips with yours in one smooth movement. He goes from looking embaressed to disbelief in a heartbeat.

He then blushes as you begin walking back together. Desperate to get him talking again, you decide to get feedback; "So Luc, tell me your thoughts on training."

"What kind of magic is that?" You ask, noticing a second saw form on your hip.

"Well. I think it's fire magic technically. But I just pupmp a tonne of magic into one spot and it goes BOOM!" He clicks his fingers and a small explosion forms in front of you.

You never wanted to be able to explode things with your midn anyway. Fuck magic.

"That's cool." You say trying to supress your jealousy.

The two of you walk up to the wagon and Remy tuns to face you with rage plastered across his face.

He laughs, "Aye I'll tell him bedtime stories and make fucking cookies."

"And I'll make sure that he does his sums every day after he comes back from the academy." You grin, "And he'd still learn more from me than he would hiding behind your fucking skirts!" You jump back as a claymore slams down into the ground right in front of you.

You spool out your saw and prepare to fight. Lexington's look of amusement is completely gone and the temperature has plummeted. Well looks like this is happening now.

You stand your ground this time, Polesaw forming even as you swing. Aiming to sunder his shield or force him back for spacing. You connect soldily but instead of him going flying you find yourself being repulsed by the force of his shield charge.

You recalculate, dodging bursts of white fire as you move back into melee. Your saw clashes with his sword and you lock your knees under his strength, ducking his backswing you score a solid strike on his armour. Only to recieve a blistering shield bash in return. "MINERVA'S LANTERN!" You cry covering your body in purple flame. He is unprepared for your attack, polesaw switching to your regular buzzsaw on wire.

You unleash a flurry of attacks in your state, gouging great furrows in his amrour and shield. He is too wary to counter attack much, only swiping or cutting at you when you're too far in his range.

You step back to prepare and overhead strike when he lunges for your exposed side, you leap the blade scoring a deep cut to his shoulder. He barges you with his shield but you employ your enigma to stick to it and inhale your own fire.

You exhale a torrent of purple flame over the lip of his shield.

His Face is bathed in flame as you kick off and flip to your position. Remy Roars and you feel an aching in your head as he takes one step forward suddenly in your face. You try to bring up your saw to block but his blade cleaves through your hip.

You spin and tumble into the dirt, getting to one knee as a bolt of white fire comes for you. You manage to dive away and retreat into the long grass.

He stomps towards you, as you retreat into the cover you begin to forumlate a plan.

I just wanna try to trip him up with magnets (he is wearing plate armour right?) And I'm not sure we can get inside his guard. Charging someone with a shield and armour with some claws seems like a bad idea.

You slow your breathing and focus in on your opponent as he steps into the foliage after you. You really want this guy to stop being such a dick. He's had it out from you from the get-go and now it's time to teach him a lesson.

Claws form around your hands and you coil yourself like a spring waiting for an opportune moment. Like a silver sun, he shines in the grass. You could probably track him by sound if you had to, he comes past your hiding spot and oyu pounce. Thrusting your claws into the joints on his armour's backside you hear a satisfying splash and see him cough blood. A savage grin lasts but a moment as you notice a glowing sigil writing itself on the dirt beneath you.

You shut your eyes as the sigil lights up. White light starts to pour out from it in ever increasing amounts; you feel your ears start to burn and your head start to pound as pure unadulterated energy pours out from this thing.

[MATTHIEU REMY]

You walk away, shaking your head and dropping your emergency ward spell as you rise from the crater. Finding yourself a bit drained from casting three difficult spells at once, you settle for folding space with your enigma to save you a steep climb. Those claws hurt, pierced through even your armour with ease. You had to pull out one of your stronger spells. Underestimating her was almost as stupid as leaving Luc alone with her.

A portal to the plane of Lucrias - Plane of sound was a trump card you didn't expect to pull on some nobody. But you did it nonetheless. Even if she survived she'd probably be deafened and in a coma. Far further than you wanted to go to teach her some humility, but a lesson which had to be learned.

You hear something and turn around to find her standing, clothes almost completely shredded from the sonic force of your spell. In the crater all you can focus on are her crimson eyes as they glare at you.

[CRUELTY]

"You must be confused Matthieu." You hiss, "I'm not Maddison. I won't die easy." You spit, feeling new energy fill your limbs.

He charges you, claymore swinging for your neck. You manage to dodge back, noting how quickly he crossed the distance. You take his next swipe on your saw before you leap into the air. Cackling like a madwoman.

Four times your saw is rebuked by his shield and on the fifth you find something off about the range, you wire goes slack when it shouldn't be at maximum range.

He comes in close again and you step back, but find the distance impossibly vast. You duck his sword, but are hit with the shield and then backswing. Your depserate attempt at a dodge does little as he slices deep into your chest.

You still manage to stand, "You're pathetic Matthieu. A student, wizard, warrior, always the
best."

He comes forward and you step closer ramming your head into his jaw. "But personally you're a failure aren't you. The emotionally crippled girl is a better teacher than you. You never saw your wife's rebellion." He screams and orbs of fire appear around him. "Your son probably wants to travel with us now... since he has a crush on me." You whisper before

He charges you with those orbs orbiting him and you just want nothing to do with any more of his bullshit magic, you push out with whatever you have in you. And are surprised when his sword goes flying beyond the horizon. He manages to dig in for a second and his orbs start blinking rapidly. But the weight of his armour and the force of whatever you did send him flying as well. You fall to one knee and catch your breath as he tumbles in a painful looking heap, his arm definently doesn't look like it should be like that.

This distance should have bought you some time, but you see him sitting up and in a glowing white light summon what looks like some kind of halberd .

You fade into the grass, as stealthily as possible trying to feint a sneak attack. You hear him curse and begin searching for you, so you decide that you should really get out of here.

You're out strengthed, outclassed and he has taken both of your best shots with barely a flinch.

"I'm not going back to the wagon and telling Luc that I killed you. We're done here." You call out with as much disgust as you can muster.

He starts slashing at bushes slightly to your left and you begin heading for the wagon. You make good time and stumble out of it. You are not in good shape at all.

"Purps holy fuck did he open a dimensional gate? The fuck did you two do to each other?" Lexington asks.

"Get Luc away." You huff, "If you can't calm Remy down one of us is killing the other and he can't see that."

"You're not killing shit. You're taking this coin, dumping Luc in the wagon and going on our planned route. If he's lost it I'll put him down, Gods know it always fucking falls on me."

You sigh as the world goes Blue for a second and a very redfaced Luc appears behin you looking pointedly at the sky. Oh right, he blew most of your outfit to smithereens. Shit you really liked thos travelling clothes. "Purps, is everything okay?"

"Everything's fine Luc. get in the wagon, Purps is going to take you away from here while I talk to your dad. He's... not doing well right now." He kneels down so he's on Luc's level. "I don't want you to see him like this and he woldn't either. So Purps will look after you."

You discreetly head behind the wagon and change into your white outfit as Lexington summons a Black and gold box to him. He lays a palm on it and it opens, strapping armour to him. But eventually a old worn and cracked spear emerges from the box and lowers itself into his hands.

You are struck with visions of a much younger man standing in front of a mausoleum with that same armour and spear cast aside.

Luc bites his lip until Lexington takes off his glasses and stares at him. You feel something pass between them and Luc seems to reel for a moment but then agrees and hops into the wagon. You sigh, "Hey Lex. Whatever you're doing, be careful."

He looks over the grass as he replaces his glasses, his spear resting on his shoulder. He hands you a strange black coin and you offer him a cigarette, which he gratefully takes and lights up in his off hand. "Purps. I've been around for a long time. I've put down a lot of rogue starborn. A lot of my own students. Don't worry about me. I'll see you tonight." He says before marching off to fight.

You sit up where he sat in front of the wagon. Unsure of what to do, you take out the strange black coin and focus on it - feeling the wagon begin to creep forward It's a strange feeling, you feel like someone is running a sponge all over you while this magic works. But you crawl North. Towards the mountains which you had only seen in your dreams.

You don't look back, you simply hope.

"Purps. Will my dad be okay?" Luc asks.

"He's pretty tough." Is the only answer you give him.
