Welcome back, Kestrels, to the sixtieth installment of Mecha Space Pirate Quest! Sometimes I'm a little surprised myself by how many of these threads there have been. As always, I'm Wong, and you are Admiral Roarke S. Starwind of the Iron Kestrels, commander of the most impressive pirate fleet you've ever heard of.

Not that hard. Including the extra weight and -1 acc, it's only a -5 to it's roll. Which isn't too bad if the enemy is at -4 or -5. I can even make the rock one handed if I don't make it throwing.

...But before you go see the Undefeated, you've got another thing to deal with. The pet store has that faint scent of animal feed and cleaning agents that they all seem to have. The air is full of the low murmur of birds singing to each other and the bubbling of fishtanks. Sometimes, you're a little shocked by how...normal...Auditorium is, but then again, it's all Bahamutcorp's fault. A few years ago they started a big media campaign to convince people that downloading Red Siren's music really does make you a criminal. She responded by kidnapping a reporter (not Gretchen) and cheerfully announcing on air that all of her fans deserved to consider themselves pirates and were welcome to join her crew. The middle-aged, slightly dumpy woman with cheaply dyed red hair behind the counter certainly doesn't fit your expectations of a pirate...but Rosita is Rosita, and she'll always do things her way.

Clemmy's ruffled maid skirt swishes around her knees as she wanders around, peering into cages and poking her nose against the glass of the fishtanks trying to see everything. Then she spots something along one wall and dashes over.

"EEEEEEE! Roarke, Roarke! Look, it's a tiny little bear! A little bear that can sit on my hand!" Clemmy pokes the glass, where a small, chubby rodent is contentedly munching on a sunflower seed. It tucks the seed into its cheek, and waddles forward, sniffing the glass where her fingertip is touching it, "The itty-bitty baby bear likes me, see? Wookit his widdle noooose!" She coos. Some people might find the sight of the Butcher squealing over tiny rodents disturbing, perhaps, but you're that superior breed of human that appreciates dangerous women being adorable, so you put your arm around her and take a closer look at it.

"That's a hamster." You note.

She wrinkles her nose in imitation of the tiny rodent, "It's a bear, it looks just like one but small."

You tap the label on the enclosure, "I'm pretty sure it's a rodent and bears aren't rodents. You can tell by the shape of the teeth."

She frowns at the label...and then her shoulders slump. There's a price tag on the label too, and from the look on her face it's well out of the reach of a hardworking maid cafe part-timer no matter how many tips she extorts out of Yoritomo's customers.

"You've been working hard, haven't you?" You mention offhandedly.

"Well...yeah, but..." Clemmy looks away, embarrassed.

"Will you promise to feed it and take care of it?" You inquire innocently.

She puffs up her cheeks, "I'm twenty-five years old, of course I can do that. It's good practice for when I have your babies."

You're skeptical about whether caring for a human infant and caring for a hamster are remotely similar, but you smile and call the shopkeep over. Over the next several minutes, you and Clemmy select a proper play enclosure for the little creature, which resembles a castle of brightly colored plastic piping, pay for it, and pay more to have it transported to the ship. You attach a note for Karen, this seems like the sort of thing she'd enjoy putting together. You also get a nigh-impervious plasteel ball with airholes in it that reminds you oddly of a cockpit pod, to carry the hamster around in. You suggest sending the hamster back to the Rhinehawk too, but Clemmy is adamant on keeping him with her and carrying him around in the ball while she comes up with a name.

A cool breeze meanders along the glittering surface of the lake and ruffles your long hair. Clemmy looks at you and smiles as the two of you walk through town, her new hamsterball with the hamster riding inside snuggled tight against her chest.

You catch her expression, and reflexively wipe your mouth, "Is there something on my face?"

She shakes her head quickly, "I just like looking at you."

"Ah, that's good. I like looking at you too." You feel like you could have said something more cool, there, but she seems quite happy and it's hard to think of much else with her this close to you, smiling like that and standing so close to you, "We're going to meet my teacher. Remember to be polite, okay?"

She wrinkles her nose again, "What's that word for when a cheeky pirate tells a special operations girl to behave properly? Irony, right?"

"Behave and you'll get to see me break a giant boulder in half." You lift your shades enough to wink at her.

Her eyes go wide, "Really!? That's awesome! Yes! I'll record it and show everybody!"

You stop her from getting out her PC, "Wait, wait. Don't go and message the others until I've actually done it. I might fail, after all." You're still not sure HOW you did what you did to the Anseis, but you're confident that if you do your best and hit it with all your strength it will crumble.

You make your way out of town, talking about everything and nothing. She tells funny stories about her time in SOUL, you tell funny stories about your time as an apprentice Kestrel. You feel an unexpected stab of sadness when she mentions, quite innocently, that it was your older brother who suggested the foot-mounted beam sabers on her mech. As you make your way to the cabin, the two of you share memories of Cassius Cosimo Cavalier Starwind.

Finally, though, the cabin looms before you. Smoke is rising from the chimney, and through the window you can see the Undefeated moving around inside. You knock on the door.

"Come in!" He calls out.

“Master! Master, I'm back! I rescued Fatima, defeated a Paladin and stole her ship, and now I'm getting married!” You push open the door, Clemmy peering around as she follows you into the Undefeated's cabin.

“Roarke! So you did it, huh? Good!” He peers closely at Clemmy, putting the picture on the mantlepiece face-down, “She doesn't look much like her picture on JNN. Are you Fatima Ahmad, young woman?”

And then Clemmy does something you didn't expect. Her heels click smartly together, her arm forms a precise angle with the fingertips at her brow, and she barks out, “Alice Clementine Farragut, former Lieutenant of SOUL Squad B. I'm Roarke's wife, sir!”

You stare at her. She gives you a sidelong look as if surprised you're surprised, then says quietly, “Roarkey, he's obviously a former officer. He's got the voice and he reminds me of my grandpa, they appreciate proper manners y'know.”

>>636527

Yes. During the War, the Green Men had an advantage because their mentally-controlled bio-armor could respond as quickly and instinctively as a human body (mostly). Imagine trying to dodge in a tank the way you could in your own body, for example. The Confederacy of United Star Systems was already dying by the time the Solar System rolled out the first proper mecha, and the CUSS was gone completely by the time the Solar System realized that, in the fact of all conventional wartime wisdom and /k/ shitposting on /m/ that the bipedal humanoid frame really was the most responsive with the new HMIS neural interface technology.

If that's too much to go into, though, there's actually a gundam parallel, and for once Iron Blooded Orphans is useful for something. One of the (many drastically underused) points in the show is that a bunch of orphans who can reflex-control their mecha are capable of standing up to Gjallarhorn aces using an old-fashioned control system with joysticks and pedals and shit, and season 1's final boss is a boy whose brain has been directly linked to the controls of his mobile suit. Another example of a system similar to the HMIS, albeit more gruesome, is the Psycho Zaku from Thunderbolt. In fact, early versions of the HMIS were tested on cripples and amputees, the technology had originally been meant for prosthetics, but by the Floyd Beck & Rudolph Merrow era (and consequently true for Roarke as well) the HMIS had had most of the bugs worked out. The modern HMIS is a set of electrode pads on the brow and temple parts of your helmet's interior. This is why the SOUL C boys are wearing pilot suits even during planetary combat.

So in a way, it's less that mecha were developed to counter the Green Men and their bio-armor, and more that the HMIS was developed to counter the Green Men's instinctive connection with their suits, and then mecha were built to most optimally employ the HMIS.

Incidentally, when Lady Maria appeared on vidcomm and emerged from her Berenger, she wasn't wearing a helmet, and presumably didn't have one on during combat either.
>>
>>636591
She wasn't using HMIS? Wow. She's either telepathic or was taking Amos far to lightly
>>
>>636548

Because Twitter is cancerous to human society and encourages humans to argue about complex issues through smug 140-character one-liners that are intellectually void. It's also chosen to take a side politically, so I will not even risk giving them a penny of revenue through viewing their ads or something. Generally speaking, I dislike social media. I only have one email, which I gather is required for twitter, and I'd rather not have any bridges between who I am online and who I am offline.
>>
>>636607
Or, you know, she was organically linked to her mech.
>>
>>636591
That does make sense and that makes the Paladins a bit scarier. Thought controlled machines are pretty strong. Incidentally, does the Pawn serve as a early mecha example? Figured someone would have to do the dirty job of making sure not a inch of greenman tech was left unburned.
>>
>>636510
As far I can tell, the HMIS existed b4 the Great Sidereal War. But it was the War that turned it from a potentially dead-end tech to the weapon of choice of the XXth century.
>>
>>636607

The HMIS was designed in labs across the solar system, while the Berenger was built using aspects of Solar technology but crafted with the aesthetic, mindset, and core technology of the Lady at its heart. One could say that the Berenger is a more "pure" Avalonian machine than the Anseis, which incorporates more Solar technology into its design. Yes, this means that the Anseis' drill bits are an Avalonian redesign of a solar design, and that Clemmy and Karen were trying to turn that into a Solar redesign of an Avalonian redesign of a Solar design before Karen decided it would be smarter just to dig up the original Solar design and use that.
>>
>>636634
Well, the original thoroughbred did have the Colt system with its beam gun bits, so it makes sense.
>>
>>636632

Ironically, the CUSS trying to shut the solar system out and keep it as an antiquated backwater is part of the reason why people there were still using prosthetics (which the HMIS was originally intended for) while the more fashionable parts of the CUSS would just regrow and flesh-sculpt new parts for you, technology that the Green Men were in large part responsible for.
>>
If you traced it, it would go Thoroughbred X -> Megabass Mobile Army System (at which point the Avalonians went "holy shit we need to replicate this ASAP") -> Paladin Anseis & its pilot Loriette Marie le Kennedy -> Karen's upgraded Knuckle Kaiser Mk. II and S-Flowerhorn Mk. II.
>>
>>636647

>>
>>636649

The Undefeated strokes his mustache, “Even if I was, I'm retired now. At ease, Farragut.” He gestures at her and she drops the salute. He glances at you, “...I'd pretend to be surprised at how many women you're involved with, boy, but I saw your announcement on JNN. I don't envy the burden you're going to carry, but I respect you for shouldering it.” The old man picks up his coffee cup and takes a sip.

“Master, I had some sort of epiphany during the duel, I think I'm ready to try to break the boulder again. I can do it this time.” You clench your fist, your blood raging volcanic with fiery determination.

The Undefeated sets down his coffee, wipes his mustache with a napkin, and looks at you closely. It's not a reproving look, or an approving look either, it's not even judging. He seems completely neutral. “I saw it on the news. Believe me Roarke, I'm proud of your progress. If I was your age, I would feel the same way. However...you're not the first pupil I've trained, and that's why I can't let you go. You would die. You might very well succeed, but you would assuredly die in the process.” He takes another sip of his coffee, “Prepare yourself, training is going to be more intense than usual today.”

“Why?” You have better sense than to be disrespectful, but you have to know.

What's additionally ironic is that early on there was some indication that the Martian Green Men wanted to stay the fuck out of the War and be left alone, until it was discovered that they'd been quietly sporing the populations of the major cities and introducing the stuff into the atmosphere.

Excellent question! In fact, it's so excellent that I'll answer it in-character.

"Corporate theft, Roarke." Karen smiles cutely, wiping machine oil off her nose with your sleeve, "Floyd Beck designed the Colt System and built the Colts himself, back when most pilots were also mechanics and much of this was experimental. He never turned over his actual designs to Bucephalus, the Thoroughbred X model was his personal tune-up and customization of the frame they'd given him. Unfortunately, the Colts were destroyed when Thoroughbred X was. Bahamutcorp then outspent Bucephalus and kissed the right government asses and was able to reverse-engineer the system first. It probably helped that they had Floyd's best friend working for them, I hear he's really rich and retired now. Oh well, at least I have his King Swordfish's new specs in the Rhinehawk's computers~"

"Because you're exactly the kind of man who can achieve total oneness of self and the universe and strike with exactly the right amount of pressure at exactly the right point when he's putting his life on the line showing off for a pretty girl." Your teacher responds bluntly. "Ironically, when you haven't been pushed to that extreme, you're more likely to get hurt."

"I don't understand." You wish you did, but this is like hearing Yoritomo talk about two-dimensional Platonic ideals of womanhood. It clearly has some kind of internal logic that you just don't have the mental lens to comprehend.

The Undefeated nods, looking completely unsurprised, “What you experienced is something that martial artists have trained to do as long as there have been martial arts, to strike with complete oneness of self. One of the most classic demonstrations of skill and power is through demonstrations of how much a human being can break in a single blow. Throughout humanity's existence, though, humans have dreamed that it was possible to break things that were fundamentally unbreakable, whether through their own might or some manifestation of human spirit. Having the ability to exert more force on the world than one's fellows is a dream as old as the first demi-ape to pick up a rock and use it to bash another demi-ape's skull in, but few have ever gained that power, and most resort to tricks such as weapons. Unlocking that power is the secret to my style, but simply using it without thought has devastating consequences on the human body. Complete oneness of self is not a natural thing, by nature humans are constantly at odds with themselves, the different voices that make up their personality and determine their destiny all clamoring to be heard. That's why no human being can entirely avoid hypocrisy or self-contradiction, or ever be truly internally consistent. That is the nature of humanity. When one is immersed in the infinite emptiness of the void, however, all is nothing and that nothing itself is singular and ubiquitous. Thus, users of my style can indeed achieve oneness of self, but as I said, there is a cost. Even those who have completely mastered the style can, in moments of spiritual depletion, die from the toll it inflicts on the body. Until you've mastered it, it's like rolling dice every time you use it. The higher you roll, the more power you put out, but if it goes over your own natural limit...that excess will come from you. I've seen it happen, once. To someone I very much loved.”

>>
>>636720

BHI has the absolute worst luck. Losing Floyd Beck screwed them over, then the Thoroughbred MP and Arabian lines go belly-up. The Morgan did well, then Bahamutcorp introduced the Warmouth, which outperformed it, so BHI made the Morgan II which unfortunately rather than blow the Warmouth away instead has competed evenly with it as the default Heavy Striker class Jovian mech since near the end of the war. Their saving grace is that Bahamutcorp never built anything as good as the Garron for its role and consequently never really made a good pure-ranged mech barring ace customs and SOUL mecha. They also control the market for construction machines and mecha, including the Shetland (originally built for disaster relief and repurposed for law enforcement), while Bahamutcorp went into building warships instead. I would add that BHI controlled the Medium Striker market too, for many years, with the Palomino...which is part of the problem with the original Pumpkinseed, it had to dislodge the Palomino completely to get a foothold and failed to do so, but the Pumpkinseed II is a very strong contender and rather than compete directly with it BHI built the Palomino II as a hybrid of the design theory behind the original Palomino line and the Garron line, creating a fast, mobile Medium Striker that can dish out a ton of firepower and is also a subtle middle finger raised to the Terrans for helping Bahamutcorp projects more (including the Tarrasque) because it doesn't use any Project Skywalker technology.
>>
>>636730

As an aside, who makes the Martian warships? And do they even have battleships or just tons of cruisers? I mean, I assume they could get the old Agamemnon class if they wanted them, but I think those are in mothballs/ in Saturn/Venus's fleets.

"They tried to break the rock before they were ready?" Clemmy hugs her hamster tight, "Roarke, don't you dare do it until your teacher is sure you can, okay? If you die doing something stupid...if you die, I'll..." Her fingernails scratch across the plasteel, "I'll follow you there, too. I'll kill all the gods and drag you back, or stay with you. Either way, we'll be together." She gives you a violent, loving smile.

The Undefeated looks mildly perturbed, "Right. No, she didn't try to break the rock. In fact, she had completely mastered the technique before she became a competent pilot. She used it flawlessly and correctly to destroy her own mech from the inside and save countless lives, knowing that it would cost her her life." He walks over to the mantlepiece, and picks up a photograph. It's not the one he'd unsubtly flipped face-down when you walked in.

Portrayed is a beautiful but stern-looking young woman in old-fashioned UJCIDF combat attire, back when it was a lot more bulky, plain, and ballistics mesh was less advanced.

"She had the love of at least two extremely gallant and talented men, she was an ace pilot, her talent for the martial arts and mecha piloting eventually would have surpassed mine. She was beautiful, strong, and selflessly courageous. Even though I still feel the grief for her loss, I don't regret it or wish I could change how her story ended. She died the way she wanted, as a heroine true to her principles." The Undefeated sighs, suddenly looking very old and tired.

"My wife was dead, a casualty of the war, and with my daughter gone after saving the galaxy from her own mechanical body and the young Orange Pekoe team disbanded, I was alone. I could have stayed on with the UJCIDF, like Muragi did and begged me to do, but I had no fire left, no desires. I was a relic, just another war machine worn down with rust. So I retired, and came to an out-of-the-way Belt colony to meditate, refine my martial arts as far as I could, and prepare myself for death. At least, until Domon found me, and then you. It must be fate." The old man smiles, but it's a sad smile.

"Wait a moment." Clemmy cuts in, "That's Major Ji Xifeng. She piloted NaNa-01. That makes you Gen-"

The Undefeated raises his hand, "I left that behind long ago. Now I'm simply the Undefeated, instructor to a wild beast and a tiger."

You've seen Space Avengers, though, "Wasn't Ji a blonde?"

He snorts, "Casting decisions aren't exactly made on physical resemblance, and I don't expect the media to accurately portray my daughter as the tough and independent woman she was rather than as a tearful peace princess in need of rescue. I don't care that they got it wrong, I remember the truth of the matter, and so does anyone who matters. You're well-informed though, girl."

Clemmy puts a hand on her hip and smiles proudly, "I was a SOUL pilot and trained a l'il with Colonel Stern, he talked about her once."

The Undefeated raises an eyebrow, and seems as if about to speak, then shakes his head and remains silent.

"What's an Orange Pekoe?" You ask.

"It's a type of tea." Clemmy says with a smile, "I learned all about tea from Rose, we wore fancy dresses and sipped tea and watched a play here on Auditorium. She said I needed culture." She frowns a little, "I get why she does all this, but it's dumb too, she's a really good pilot and could have been our third if you and me were a SOUL Squad."

The Undefeated clears his throat, "Well, during the War, when times were really desperate, the upper brass decided on a plan to train five ultra-elite operatives young enough for the enemy to underestimate. War orphans, adopted by the state and trained extensively from almost before they were old enough to lift a weapon." He shakes his head, "To tell the truth, I say operatives, but in a way they were more like terrorists. The War in those days was a bloody, bloody thing, a meatgrinder that turned our best and brightest into pulped flesh void-frozen by space or used as fertilizer for the bio-armor forests on the worlds ruled by the Green Men. They had other instructors, but for a time I had operational control over them and I was entrusted with their training in hand-to-hand combat. Roarke, could you pick up that picture on the mantlepiece for me?"

You walk over, and flip it up. It shows five young men, none of them looking a day over sixteen...and there's something uncannily familiar about one of them.

"I've seen him before." You point to the second boy from the left, your left, with his somber expression and swept-forward brown hair.

The Undefeated grunts, "So you have. Two of the Orange Pekoe team came to us from a Catholic orphanage. Josiah went back to the church when the war was done, but his best friend..." He takes the picture, and lightly taps the image of the boy standing next to young Lieutenant McAllister. He has a serene face, short, neat tow-blonde hair, and is dressed impeccably neatly. "His best friend, Alexander, lost his taste for fighting after saving a pretty Garron pilot from one of the Green Men."

Your fists clench so hard you hear the knuckles pop. "Alexander." It isn't a question, as you look more closely at the blonde kid.

"He gave up his dream of taking holy orders, married, and moved to Io. I understand that he died in an industrial accident." He shakes his head slowly. "I never thought Alexander Starwind would perish in an industrial accident."

It was total war, she probably sacrificed a good part of her sanity fighting in it, doing things that had to be done.

Its how that grief and anger at the passing of roarke's mother comes across. That she still hasnt gotten over her death and blames roarke's father for being the cause of her death makes it very unlikely that she played a direct part in the trap, since even endangering roarke's mother would likely have been utterly repulsive to her.

The resemblance is hard to see at first. When you think of your dad, you think of his glasses, or the stubble on his chin that he never seemed able to get rid of, or his big, rough hands tossing you into the air and catching you while he laughed in his raspy voice. You think of his admittedly rather parochial lessons on morality and the tenderhearted way he took care of your mother. You think of him teaching you how to tuck your thumb outside your fist to avoid breaking it when you hit something, and how to set your shoulders when you throw a punch. You think of his small, round glasses reflecting the light of the luminoglobes in the little house on an Io colony where you grew up. You think of the crisp white coats of the doctors, stained with blood, and Cassius' hollow voice as he forced himself to sit up on a hospital bed to tell you that mom and dad weren't coming home anymore.

You and Cassius knew all about mom's time in the military, at least the parts she was willing to talk about. Dad would always just smile and cite his age, just a little too young for military service, but he'd alluded occasionally to having trained for it like most of his generation.

"Liar..." You feel your teeth grind together as you growl the word.

"Roarke." The Undefeated's voice is as implacable as the boulder, "I know he didn't tell you. I knew that shortly after you arrived at this cabin, when you didn't mention him once. I won't say that he didn't deceive you, but Alex just wanted to live a normal life with Christina and his children. He was a solemn, unhappy boy when I knew him...but after he met your mother, he was the happiest man in the galaxy. After what we had all seen, that's all I wanted for him."

"Why didn't you tell me you knew my dad?" Your voice sounds a lot more calm than you expected, but you're not sure that counts for much and right now you don't care.

"Because you would have started comparing yourself to him and trying to follow in his footsteps. He and Josiah were specialists in stealth and black operations, your fighting style is completely different from his even though you both fight unarmed. To tell the truth, you've come a lot farther than he has. He only managed to unleash the void fist a few times over the course of his life." The Undefeated closes his eyes, "Many, many times I've wondered whether he should have been my protege instead of the one we lost, if perhaps I had trained him more closely things would have gone differently."

"Roarke..." Something soft and warm presses against you, and it takes you a moment through your blurred vision to recognize Clemmy. She pulls a clean hankerchief out of the pocket of her maid uniform and begins dabbing at your eyes, "It's okay. Everything is going to be okay. I'm right here." She hugs you tight, and you cling to her like a spar of wood in the raging ocean of blood-soaked fury and grief that courses through and around you. You'd thought you'd gotten over this.

You wordlessly squeeze her tight, and with a little "Oof!" She nestles close, her lips close to your ear, "So, this is what made you the way you are. He would be proud of you. I know he would." You go to speak and she puts a finger to your lips, "Nuh-uh. Deep breaths. Big, deep breaths, and when you're calm, talk."

You feel the rage starting to fade, "What did I do to deserve you?" You mumble, feeling a little silly. Yes, your dad didn't tell you the truth about what he did during the War. Yes, the Undefeated kept the charade going. At the same time, though, you can't blame either of them. They both had good reasons, and the Undefeated told you about your father himself just now of his own volition.

Now I'm wondering about the Name of the Corp. Seraph Corp? Garuda Industries? Simurgh Enterprises? Roc Conglomerate?
>>
>>637251
I like Karen. She's always number 2 to me, but Sam is a rare treasure so she gets top spot.
>>
>>637253

The fact that there's argument about who is best and worst, and that everyone is at least someone's favorite, is exactly what I wanted. Passion is one of the flames of a blazing spirit.
>>
Gee willikers, fellow Anons, at this point I'm kind of curious who you think the First Mate really is. Any thoughts?
>>
also... have we used this song yet?

>>
>>637257
>Passion is one of the flames of a blazing spirit.
This is such great one liner that i may carry it for life.
>>
>>637261
We don't have that on our mixtapes

>>637258
I think its Reccoca but the fact that their using the priest as her cover makes no sense, he's probably the better pilot of the two. And the Pilot has to be a woman since Dozel noticed her womanly hips
>>
>>637258
Well, the one thats most obvious not wong is that secretary of hers we saw a few chapters ago. Her speech matches along with her profile, and the way she reacts to Caeser makes sense considering he 'scorned' her. Second one is the sabotage chick.
>>
>>637258
That mechanic bitch who was hitting on Caesar. Triple C said there was something off about her and the pilot of the Harpy that is apparently remote controlling the S Slayers is a woman. Also, the person who killed CCC was a woman as well and the First Mate bragged about killing Roarke's brother.
>>
>>637252

I...know how the word is pronounced, Aerie Industries? Eyrie? For some reason I'm blanking on the spelling.
>>
>>637257
I don't remember lori being number one for someone, for example, i really like her, but i don't know her enough to make her BEST GIRL though.
>>
>>637271

Huh, weird, I meant to put my trip back on.

>>637272

Lori's new, and a secret waifu, so that's understandable. Remember, she was the bonus boss for the stage.
>>
>>637267
Its Beth, Fairchilds Aide. Their using Josiah because because no one knows how good he really is, and he is far better in front of the media. plus he can keep Jesus in line while the press are around, so thats a plus.
>>
>>637276
I get the idea behind it, but the man they trained to be a murder weapon against Greenmen would be much more useful piloting a mech then some random woman. They could just put him as the pilot and he would do better and they wouldn't even need to fake that he's the pilot
>>
>>637276
plus, it means that Slayer can do cloak and dagger shit ( working with the Skulls, for example) on her own and they can say that it wasn't Soul B, because Soul B was somewhere else.
>>
>>637271
>>637275

Eyrie is a word, yep. I think I might make a Light Striker mech called the Red-Tail.
>>
>>637281
You are assuming that he'd be piloting the Slayer and not the hidden 4th machine of SOUL B. The Slayer may use stealth, but it'd be better to call it a heavy hitter that can be sacrificed again and again. Pop into a vulnerable spot, take as many with you, and nothing bad happens. If the Priest is basically special ops, he'd likely be more melee than missiles.
>>
>>637281
Alternatively, he refuses to pilot a Mech or participate in active combat for his own reasons. Maybe some oath he made after the War ended.
>>
>>637281
He has his own mech, we just haven't seen it yet. there was mention of a S-Lionfish at some point or another.
That and Fairchild doesn't trust him. He is the best friend of Alexander Starwind, after all
>>
>>637289
But then your saddling him with being the face of the First Mate so thats cutting into his spec ops time and that makes him a more noticeable figure since he's now in the spot light
>>
>>637292
Speaking of Fairchild, when we encounter her next we should say something like "If my mother knew what you've done, do you really think she would forgive you?"
>>
>>637295
Him being the face would work quite well though. He'll draw attention to all parties involved due to his past, and that means a altered S-Slayer could be used in the meantime to cause trouble. Hell, for all we know there may be 2 Slayers. the Remote version, and a more 'specialized' version for the Priest to use.
>>
>>637302
As far as we know people don't know much about the operation, if they did we would know about what our dad did
>>
Momentarily, you think about how lucky you are that you and her bumped into each other that first time on California Station. Saying that Fairchild doesn't deserve her is more than an understatement.

"Love you." You mumble.

"Love you too." She mumbles back.

"...I would offer to go outside, but this IS my house." The Undefeated remarks, and you and Clemmy disentangle yourselves from each other.

The back door rattles, Domon using the knotted rope dangling from the handle to pull it open with his teeth and slink inside. He lifts his head and sniffs the air, padding silently on huge, soft paws into the room with a questioning growl.

Clemmy spots him, "Hey kitty! Aren't you a big boy, huh? Did you scare poor little Karen? Yes you did~ Yes you did~ Hey!" She grabs the hamsterball off the table a split second before Domon's paw would have knocked it to the floor, and she hugs it against her chest.

Tigers are huge animals, though, and as he saunters over to her he only has to stretch his neck a little to sniff at the ball, leaving a faint double-puff of steam on the plasteel. The hamster squeals and does its best to run up the opposite side of the ball to get away from the curious tiger.

Clemmy's pupils shrink to the size of pinpoints. She leans down towards the tiger, her lips pulling back from her teeth, the whites of her eyes showing all around her irises, and she growls. It's a low, rumbling sound suffused with menace.

Domon abruptly scampers back, nearly rising on his hind legs in his haste to turn around and retreat to the garden, his ears flat against his head.

"Don't bully my pets!" Clemmy calls after him, cheerfully. "Wow, he's a really big cat. Rose really made him sound small and fluffy."

"He wasn't as big when I found him." The Undefeated points out.

"So, what happened to the other three?" You ask, picking the picture up off the table.

The Undefeated points at a short boy with a huge, cocky grin, vaguely Asiatic features, and a long braid, "Believe it or not, that little punk grew up to be Bluegill Joe."

You start laughing. You can't help it.

"No, I'm serious! He's the oldest of the group, not that you'd know by looking at him." The Undefeated insists. His fingertip moves from the young Joseph Muragi to the boy in the middle, with windswept hair and a determined look in his eyes, "Leroy Vinland. Leroy...he was the nominal leader of the team. Smart, confident, a genius with every weapon he touched. Instantly popular with the girls no matter how much he growled or threatened them. A bit bloodthirsty and rash, but Joe kept him in line. Deep down, both of them wanted the same thing, justice and peace. He could have been one of the greatest pilots in history, if he hadn't been killed."

[Continued]
>>
>>637295

Or maybe there's a reason to hide the real First Mate's identity from the public and they need a cover who can, when required, perform similar feats of ace flying.
>>
Question on Mech Building: Do Arm, Leg and such Servos take up Space on the Torso? Or can you add as many as you like?
>>
>>637303
No one normal, but military folks would. Especially the higher up ones. I could see his presence watched by any of them if they heard rumors of Fairchild having a assassin since he has a history. That would leave them open to another assassin using said mech. After all, I sure many of those retired generals and leaders didn't do so out of respect.
>>
>>637310

Servos don't take up spaces, they give them, the restricting factor on how many you can have is weight.
>>
>>637310
Oh and Wong, can you give a Quick rundown of the Shetland's stats?

>>637315

By the way, I'm sorry about all the fluff and lack of meaningful decisions tonight, guys, this meeting with the Undefeated was doomed to be somewhat information-heavy. View it as the salad course before the soup that is the special training and the steak that is the upcoming facility raid.

And this one, B-" The Undefeated's finger stops over the last boy, and he cuts the name short. Lean but tightly muscled, like Joe he has features from ancient Terran Asia, but more pronounced. His hair is black as pitch and cut close to his scalp, "A traitor not worth mentioning. My greatest shame, and at one time, my greatest student. Of the five, he was my protege. It pains me to say it, Roarke, but in some ways the two of you are very much alike, particularly when you fight. Your father disliked weapons because they drew suspicion and made every fight more lethal, if he had the option he would rather accomplish his objectives without killing. This one...this one shunned all forms of weaponry because he viewed them as a crutch, a weakness, something that could be taken away. Personally, I now believe that he enjoyed killing with his hands. He betrayed the Orange Pekoe team and caused the events leading to Leroy's death before he fled the Solar System forever. Perhaps this is fortunate. Your father, Josiah, and Joseph were all determined to kill him, and in all this time I've had to reflect I fear that if they had one of them would have died. His interpretation of the Void Fist was heretical, dooming the practitioner to a life without loyalty or attachment to anything but the animalistic act of growing stronger. It made him a monster, but monsters are strong, and among monsters he is among the strongest."

"So I have to beat him." You've seen enough martial arts simflicks to know where this is going.

"No! Jove no, boy! I hope you never encounter him! If we're lucky, he's dead on some backwater colony, unmourned and unremembered." The Undefeated shakes his head vigorously.

"Were it only so easy." You remark, then add despite your reservations about questioning the Undefeated's judgment, "Don't you think you're underestimating me a little, teacher?" You've seen enough simflicks to know that's normally an arrogant thing to say, but this isn't a simflick and you're Roarke Starwind.

"No. Not in the slightest. As I said, you're among the most promising pupils I have ever trained. More importantly, you're well-balanced, you're neither ruled by nor seal away your emotions, you're aware of your vices and all five...or however many of them you really have...of them help keep you honest. You're neither a slave to an ideology nor completely amoral. Most importantly, you love what you do. I can see it when you train, and I've seen it in how you fight. You're no blood addict, but you savor brawling. That's good, no matter how many simflicks propagandize the idea of the pacifist warrior, someone who disdains fighting will rust more quickly than someone who enjoys it. However, no, I am completely serious when I say that I hope you never encounter this man. Don't take this as criticism of your skill or potential, but rather a warning as to how dangerous he is and how profoundly poisonous his thinking is." The old man, for once, looks less than his usual confident self. It's a bit depressing.

"Master, are we still going to train today?" You manage a smile despite your recent bout of emotions over your father.

The Undefeated grins, and fetches down a bent, carved piece of wood. It's covered with tooth marks and one end is broken off, "Yes. This was my favorite backscratcher, but sadly Domon got at it. I want you to get me another one."

You blink. This is utterly not what you expected, "A...backscratcher? Alright, where do I find one?" Perhaps he's going to have you run to town with a backpack full of rocks on your back. Again.

The Undefeated's smile acquires an edge as grim as a guillotine, "On the other side of the mountain."

Eye of the Tiger

Quick point of order about music, you don't have the Knuckle Kaiser or its speaker systems with you.

...but it would probably be a good idea to keep a song in mind for fighting Bruce Kelly in a mech just in case.

He'd be totally against the whole thrall thing, and the single woman bit wouldn't help. Mormonism on the other hand does have plural marriage, and he can pretty much pick and chose on the rest of it.

Might take a bit more than that. The game that this fine fellow came from required 3 groups of 6 destiny empowered heroes, a army, multiple ambushes, betrayals from his own side, one of the smartest strategists in the land, a rune that may be part of what created the world, a shit ton of arrows, and then a one on one duel with the protagonist that could still end badly even though half his health bar is gone.

His only weapons in that game was a sword, his horse, and basic fire enchantment magic. Luca Blight did not pull punches, even though he was in the middle section of the game.

True. Although I so have sympathy to their accusation that the divine revelation that prompted the 1890 manifesto had more to do with the upholding of the Edmons Tucker act that let the US federal government steal all of them LDS's stuff, deprive them of their civil rights and throw them all in jail than any divine revelation. Especially since immediately afterwards the US government stopped stealing their stuff.
>>
>>638411
I thought it was 120 CP.

Oh, and what are the guidelines for Suit backgrounds? Because this is what I had in mind for the Eyrie Industries Red-Tail.

>The Red-Tail is a multi-purpose transformable fighter-mech that falls into the Striker Class. One of the Earliest transforming Mechs, it first saw service during the Great Sidereal War and was one of the most commonly used Mecha among the Lunar Forces. The model was largely abandoned following the War's end in favor of more advanced and cost-efficient Mechs and can only be found in museums, private collections and a handful of mechbays around Luna and Venus. It's a testament to the model's design that it's still a viable mech decades after it was first deployed.

I'm not sure if a very old and rare mech that belongs to a Lunar corporation would be allowed.
>>
>>638473
No making Avalonian mecha. No making things with loads of verniers.
>>
Also, is there a mechanic for a Mechs wings locking into place over its arms to provide extra armor and allowing the arms to control the weapons mounted on the wings?
>>
>>638494
Nope. You can make arms that turn into wings though.
>>
>>638506
Really? Where are the rules for that?
>>
Can mech fighters hover in fighter mode?
>>
>>638538
And you can have hands in your wings if i'm not mistaken, what could let you have "handheld weapons" in your wings, which you could pass to your arms.

In theory at least, i may be wrong.
>>
>>638538
Advanced technical manual, hit Ctrl+f and look for metaform wings.
>>638543
You can if you buy the VTOL ability.

If you have a one shot disposable missile does the mech lose weight after if fires it?
>>
>>638553
By the ROCK rules said by Dutch-senpai, in theory yes.
>>
Aside from weapons, what else can be mounted inside a servo?
>>
>>638634
Pretty sure everything needs to be mounted in a servo unless your mech is holding it in its hands. Standard shields only take up one space mounted on an arm servo though.
>>
>>638653
Unless they are a drone I guess but they can be mounted in the mech as well if you feel the need.

Its an new escort Mecha designed by an experienced Red Siren pilot who did not get enjoy getting carved up by the Butcher. After teaming up with an aspiring mecha designer, and hitting the bluegrill joe tournaments, she decided to enter the Space Jam Tournament.

The Diva uses shadow imaging technology originally pioneered by Red Siren, in addition to wing Shaped Feather Shields to provide a formidable layered defense. The Duel beam dirks provide the only form of offense, as its role is to intercept melee threats short of the Archen and hold them in play while its mistress carves them up with her ludicrously overpowered continuous beam guns.
>>
>>638717

I believe they can hold the same amount of spaces worth of stuff as the spaces of the servo they are attached to.
>>638721
I'm sure there is some sort of significant downside to torso mounted active shields but I have forgotten whatever it is. Your beam weapon is priced to do 6K so that might be a typo and I dont think you can drop half a ton but maybe you can.

>I'm sure there is some sort of significant downside to torso mounted active shields but I have forgotten whatever it is.
I think its that I can't use a weapon mount to avoid paying a ton in Space efficiency. But honestly, its mostly an aesthetic thing.
>>
>>638855
It's either spaces or kills. Hard to tell either way. As for torso mounted active shields? Let's go with Rashad as an example. Rashad had a 8 SP active shield against roarke. It'd auto parry any attack to the shield and in a way, to the servo it's on as well. Because he kept parrying and we kept hitting, we started to eat through the shield and start eating into his torso armor. Then his torso kills. That did him very little favor and just drew any attack we made at him to his torso.
>>
So we're getting updated stats for Roarke soon, right? Numbers make me hard.

>>

Nothing really. Could use up spare space to give it more kills and use something like a Tail or a dedicated servo for it. Thats why I like the sword tail, it's a neat design for it and prevents a lucky enemy from just pounding the offending useful limb off.

Pierre's mech is the most underrated SOUL mech, and interestingly enough, it's also the first proper SOUL mech (1A). Data gathered from it was used to make the active shields used by the King Swordfish Mk. II and the Pumpkinseed II. It was also a testbed for the prototype plasma weapons and aspects of its design were incorporated into the S-Slayer,

Hey guys, good night(or morning, or evening...)
>>639411
So, Wong, how the tourney is going to work? I have a few questions:

>How many candidates will we have, do we have a limit or we can just keep going and making new mechs? Are you going to choose the best designs?
>Will we roll for every combatant? or just one of them from each duel? Do we get to chose what they do or do you control them because they are being controlled by NPCs?
>Do the pilots have LUCK? Or a maneuver pool?
>Can we make mechs from any faction? Would a Lori's Night get into a solar mech and try to win the Space Jam in her name? Do martian pirates exists?
>Can we make a description of the planned pilot for the mech? like the "Rosita's Fan" example?
>Otakulture is a REAL religion in this universe? What about the Storm Dragons? Is this just a hobbie?Or is it a style of life?
>>
>>639412

Yes, I'm a little sorry that a number of minor choices and plot events closed off the early-game S-Swordtail boss fight. Back before Roarke had doublefists, I believe. That would have been fun, I would have enjoyed Pierre ranting GIVE ME BACK MY SISTER, STARWIND SHE IS A PURE GIRL AND NOT FOR YOU TO DESPOIL over the comms while Samantha yelled at him not to be an idiot.
>>
>>639472
But now you can have him yell that at us at the wedding, so every is good
>>
>>639408
It feels like Pierre is like Oda, underrated mechs that actually can give the MCs a run for their money despite being slightly lower in CP.
>>
>>639472
Don't worry wong. I'm sure after a couple kegs, he'd be bawling for his sister and challenge Roarke to a duel.
>>
Here's a Question, are we allowed to suggest what kind of Pilot we'd like to have pilot the Mechs we design?
>>
>>639441

Yes.

>>639471

Some of those things I need to consider properly before answering. You'll probably roll for every combatant because we have IDs now, and you can provide input on what they do even though, as usual, I'm writing out the posts. Pilots will have Luck, a standard amount of it. If someone like one of Lori's troops competed, they would likely use their own Knight. Martian pirates exist, you have a fair number on your crew from the ones that joined you and the fact that some of the Suleiman survivors were Martian. Also Mohammed. You're welcome to give me guidance on the pilot or at least pointers, but sometimes I'll ignore it or alter it significantly.

I'd personally advise you don't make more than one mech each as your entry. I'll fill out any unevenness with mecha I make.

As for your last question, how could anyone doubt Oda's sincerity in his beliefs for a second? IC, Roarke has tried to avoid finding out just how deep the weeb rabbithole goes.

"So! I'm finally ready for that!" You slam your fist into your palm, grinning. You're still troubled, of course, but that just makes you want to vent your frustration on someone all the more.

"Indeed!" The Undefeated nods, "As you'll recall, beyond the mountain lives a particularly evil, poisonous man...and yet, he has a pure dream, which separates him from people like my former pupil. Go to his encampment and bring back one of these backscratchers, and you'll pass."

"Yay! A romantic walk in the woods with my beloved~" Clemmy cheers.

The Undefeated shakes his head firmly, "No, he must go alone. He must make this climb without a rope, or there is no point in the exercise. Be careful, boy."

You kiss Clemmy goodbye, and depart into the woods. Without someone to talk to, the woods are dreadfully quiet. The pine needles crunch beneath your feet, and the wind whispers through the trees like an uneasy ghost. The occasional bird or insect is your only companion as you walk through the pines with your hands swinging by your sides, sipping water from a canteen. Although you've often wondered just how much of Auditorium Red Siren remodeled, this forest must have been here before she was born, judging from the height of the trees. Granted, you don't know much about trees, but they would have to have grown meters every year for this woodland vista to be a result of her tastes.

The land begins to slope downward, forcing you to pick your steps more carefully. Here and there, trees have fallen, their network of roots tearing craters out of the hillside and disturbing the smoothness of the forest floor. You notice that white pigeons seem to be oddly common, and wonder briefly if, like Domon, they too were brought here as pets or as part of one of Red Siren's music videos.

As your eyes follow the flight of the birds, you notice a large nest about eight feet or so off the ground. Your gaze slides off it, then focuses on it again as you notice a sudden gleam. It's a dome-shaped nest, more like a beehive than a proper bird's nest, with a hole in front. You tilt your head one way, then the other, and then as the light strikes it correctly you spot the gleam again. There's something glassy just inside the opening, and you momentarily wonder if this is the nest of a magpie before your mind hits on a much more realistic probability.

That is a surveillance camera, and you are being recorded.

Yeah so far Jesus's empathy works as a sense motive.

As in, Jesus is fully aware whenever Roarke is mocking him, by sheer sixth sense.
>>
Well, you've already been seen. There isn't much point in trying to avoid it now. You make a fingergun gesture at the camera and stroll on past. Now that you know where to look, it's easy to pick out the cameras. You walk for what probably feels like a much longer distance than it actually is, due to the terrain, before you crest a small rise and find yourself standing overlooking a little hook of land on the edge of the lake. After the shadowy woods, the bright glitter of light on the water would normally dazzle you...except that you're wearing your shades, and these automatically adjust. There's a huge mound covered with brush at the base of the hook, along with a shelter that's clearly been created by using the gutted chassis of a Pumpkinseed for structure.

But that isn't what interests you. No, what you spot first is the woman bathing naked in the shallows of the lake. She's a bit skinny, with fair skin, a little button nose, and a small mouth. Her short hair is wet from the lakewater and pressed tight against her skull and neck. She doesn't seem to have seen you.

Rolled 4 + 18 (1d10 + 18)

You wonder whether a rockslide or something caused that mound. It's possible, but you don't know what could cause a rockslide on a colony, you've only seen rockslides in simflicks. You peer closer at it, preparing to magnify the image with your shades, when suddenly...

"Oi, cunt. Tryin' ta get a peeky-weeky at me sheila, mate?" You hear a sudden growl.

Your reflexes are good, you're able to spin around in time as a whipcord-lean man with a puff of blonde hair and eyes like a rabid pit bull hauls back his arm and hurls another of those backscratchers at you end over end, its curving arc aimed straight at your head. Unfortunately for you, the bastard has the initiative and you haven't had time to put on your taser gloves.

I do keep a general eye on it, to tell whether you're flush with cash or getting low. Speaking of which, making some money wouldn't be an awful idea. You can, generally speaking, have your ships disperse and perform a lot of smaller acts of piracy independently, or you can bring them all together for a big job. There's no time to dodge, you throw your arm up and knock the curved stick away, diverting it off course. You hear a crash of greenery behind you as it spins through a pine bough. The impact hurts, it's enough to jar your arm, but thankfully you're wearing the jacket your friends and crew chipped in to get for you when you became an admiral. Eternally stylish, black, covered with real leather, and with the Iron Kestrels emblem on the back surmounted by a crown, it's an emblem of rulership you wouldn't trade for any fancy uniform pins or circlet or scepter. Most importantly, it's got ballistic mesh inside. Paper thin, but great at dispersing impact.

"That." You tell him plainly, "Was stupid. Besides, I already got a peek, didn't I, 'mate'?" You clench your fists and settle back into a fighting stance.

The blonde man goggles at you, "That's not fucking fair, mate." He shakes his head, reaches into the waistband of what looks like a penal uniform, and pulls out a pistol, "Well, there's ways of dealing with long-haired pooftah cunts who wear out their cunt welcome staring at me cunt's cunt."

Unfortunately for him, you are extremely fast, and this isn't the first time some roughneck has pulled a gun on you. You're already in motion as he pulls the weapon from his waistband, and when he thumbs back the hammer you're only four feet away. It comes down to the wire, but as his finger tightens on the trigger, you bring your leg up and swing it in an inside-to-outside crescent, reflexively pulling your toes back as the Undefeated taught you. The tip of your boot hits the inside of his elbow and throws his arm out wide. A bullet whizzes through the air and hits a tree, but the gun goes flying out of his hand. With a Clemmyesque snarl, the wild-eyed man reaches behind his back once again, this time pulling from a makeshift sheath a huge blade with just enough curve to hack, enough point to stab, and enough serrations on the back to butcher.

"Choke on this, wanker!" He growls, slashing at your face.

This guy...he's no ordinary thug. You rationally knew that, but it's only as the point of his knife approaches your eyeball do you realize how dangerous he is. He's about to kill you, and there's no change in his expression. You've lost.

It's amazing how time seems to slow down at moments like these. You have enough time to feel regret. You can only imagine how disappointed your mentor will be. Let alone your wives. You pray to whatever god is listening that the Undefeated is enough to stop Clemmy from burning down the forest and killing every living thing in it.

The hooked, metal tip hits your shades, and the right lens fractures. You see the gleam of the tip so close that your eyelashes brush against the metal, and then it's moving past, the fouled-up force of the stab digging the blade in a wavering line along your cheekbone to your ear. He pulls back, your shades dangling from his knife, "Bloody hell, what are these things made fro-" He never gets the chance to finish.

You'd already had your hand inside your jacket, in the inner pocket, digging into the open end of one of your gloves. Your fingers slot into the holes, and you uppercut him right on the point of his chin so hard that it lifts him up onto his toes and then lays him out flat on his back several feet away, kicking a cloud of pine needles into the air.

Of course Karen had built your shades up to the specs of military ballistic safety glasses.

You flex your fingers inside the weighted glove, and put on the other one just in case he gets up. The right half of your face is sheathed in blood below the cheekbone, you can hear it dripping onto the forest floor.

Behind you, you hear the distinctive k-chak of a mag being slotted into an autogun, and a cold, female voice, "Hands up, pirate."

You hold your hands up innocently, and turn your head. The naked woman is still naked, but she's cradling a military-grade autogun like she knows how to use it.

There's a groan from the downed man, and he tries to sit up, fingers tightening on his knife. He wobbles, spits a gobbet of bloody saliva, then falls back down, his eyes unfocused, and starts laughing, "Bloody hell, did you hit me with a brick, ya cunt?"

"My sheila made those glasses for me. And these." You flex your hands.

"Becca, put the gun down before he does for you too. This ain't no jolly swagbuck." The blonde man gestures, and the muzzle of the woman's gun lowers a fraction.

Suddenly, she gasps, "I knew I recognized you! Bruce, this is Roarke Starwind, he's the leader of the Iron Kestrels and-"

"And a mean, mean cunt, yeah? Fuck off, I knew that." Bruce grunts, "Hell do you want, cunt? I'm not bothering you or your ruddy pink cunt queen."

This is doubtful. You've heard, indirectly, about a rash of thefts and violent assaults on Auditorium recently, but you'd inwardly assumed it was Miles and hadn't thought too much about it because you didn't want to know if you'd have to discipline her or not. In theory, you should drag him by the scruff of the neck to Rosita and make him apologize, but there's still Becca and her autogun. So instead, you look around until you find the right conifer, the throwing stick dangling from its branches. You roundhouse kick the trunk with moderate force, and catch the stick as it falls with easy grace.

You offer him a hand up, and he slaps it away, "Fuck off, I've had worse tangling with drop bears when I was a tyke. Don't need your bloody sympathy mate."

You shrug, "All I wanted was this. You know, you're an exceptional fighter. Why don't you join my crew? In the Iron Kestrels, you'd have hundreds of mates to watch your back, a strong mech, even your own ship if you do well." You look around, "You're wasted out here."

His eyes widen, "Really? A bloke like me?"

You nod and smile, "Damn right. Let's poke the UJCIDF in the eye together."

"Yeah, nah, fuck off cunt." He scowls, "Bloody Tin Sparrahs. Told that poofter muzzie boy nah when I was unjustly locked up by the Jupie heelers. Bruce Kelly answers to no one. Not laws, not heelers, not any bloody god or government. It's me against everything, and I'm gonna win, and someday I'll take my land back from those heelers on good ol' Terra."

He fumbles around in his pocket, pulls out a cheap metal flask, and tosses it to you, "Here. Rub it on your face, have a swig if you like. Y'know where a bloke could borrow some vegemite around this overdressed berg?"

"What's vegemite?" You ask without thinking.

"WHY THE BLOODY HELL DOES NO ONE IN THIS BLOODY GALAXY KNOW WHAT BLOODY VEGEMITE IS?! IT'S THE STUFF OF THE GODS, MATE, THE GODS! YOU'RE A FUCKING ABBO IF YOU DON'T KNOW I SWEAR IF MY HEAD WASN'T IN PIECES I'D VIOLATE YOU WITH ME BLOODY KNIFE YA CUNT NOW FUCK OFF AND STAY FUCKED OFF." He makes an obscene gesture at you.

You open the flask, take a sniff, then shrug and have a swig. It burns a little going down. Then you pour a small amount on your aching cut and stars shoot across your vision from the intensity of the burning pain that tears through your skull.

Bruce laughs as if your expression is the funniest thing he's ever seen, "Yeah thought so ya soft cunt." He's still laughing as you pull your damaged, sparking shades off his knife and tuck them into your pocket, "Tell that old buzzard to fuck off too, if I see his big damned cat again I'll skin it this time!"

"Who's the real soft cunt, the one who got knocked out or the one who did the knocking?" You question.

He spits at you, but misses your boots. The woman is now holding the autogun in a way to cover her modesty as much as possible, but looks from you to him speculatively.

Seriously, even with Clemmy her nature and the luck we had there, we still needed to talk to her, treat her like a person, and part of us getting closer was due to how similar the pair are. Bruce? His only similarity is he likes to fight. Thats it. This is the worst sort of push you could do and it does us no good. Most importantly, we don't know who he is and his girlfriend tried to start a war between us and Soul A. Then she messed with the Jaburo's systems.
>>
>>641182
Yes! Let's at least get him used to our dope ass situation. Especially since our official stance is aggressive neutrality. US against everyone else. Just like him. Ours is just writ large.

>>
"See you around Bruce, Becca. By the way, I might make my way to Terra someday. If I'm heading that direction, I'll try to let you know, there's room for you on the crew. Oh, and we're having a concert and tourney on New Years, both of you should attend." You wave over your shoulder, departing while you can before he gets back up.

"Fuck off and die in a ditch. Hey wait, YOU HAD A BLOODY PISTOL UNDER YOUR JACKET THE WHOLE TIME!? WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T YOU USE IT YOU CRAZY CUNT!? I HOPE A CASSOWARY CASTRATES YOU AND RAPES YOUR MUM YOU FILTHY SON OF A DINGO!" The blistering storm of curses he hurls after you could be used to remove paint, but you don't mind. After all, you won. Granted, it was by the skin of your teeth, but you still won. You take the occasional sip from the flask as you walk back towards the Undefeated's side of the mountain. You're a little light-headed, but you're tough enough to make it there.

Domon is the first one to greet you, racing out and circling around your feet like a big, concerned dog. He sniffs at your face and growls, but you reassure him with a smile and a scratch behind his fuzzy, rounded ears.

"ROARKE! Who did this!? Who did this to you!? I'll SKIN him!" Next is Clemmy.

"No, don't even think about it. It was a fair fight." You lie to her. Your definition of a fair fight is far afield of most people's. "I won, he lost, see?" You pull your jacket back, revealing the throwing stick tucked into your belt next to the holster of your seldom-used magnum.

She sniffs the wound, "No poison. Hey, General!" She calls out in the direction of the cabin.

"Don't call me that!" The Undefeated emerges, glaring at her and making his mustache bristle, "I told you, I'm retired! What's the point of sharing these old war stories with you if you can't respect my wishes? Oh, Roarke, you're alive. Looks like you got a bit cut up, boy, but that's part of getting stronger. I'll sew it up and put some disinfectant on it, your own medics should be able to close it up without a scar. It looks worse than it is, the blood is already clotting."

They lead you inside, sit you down on the couch, and Clemmy starts cleaning you up before the Undefeated begins the procedure. Having the wound cleaned stings, having it sewed shut hurts even worse, but you grit your teeth, take deep breaths, and take it like a man. It helps that Clemmy is holding your hand the whole time, her strong fingers entwined with yours.

"Poor Roarke..." She murmurs, her expression all sad, sweet sympathy, "My poor brave Roarke."

The Undefeated severs the end of the thread with a tiny pair of scissors, "There. You're done for the day, that's another milestone you've just crossed. You've stared death in the eye without tons of metal plating between you and your enemy, you're one step closer to being a true master of unarmed combat and not just a pilot playing at it. Alex would be proud of you."

It's why I can't abide namefags. They build up deeds and everyone throws away other ideas of merit because of that. Get enough of that in normal day to day.
>>
>>641215

Roarke always has it on him. Captain Ozark made you do it as part of your duties as First Mate of the Kestrels back in the day, and carrying it is a habit. You've only used it once in this quest, though, and virtually never think about it. The Undefeated actually commented on it after he beat the shit out of you the first time that even when you were clearly losing you never went for your gun.

That gun's purpose is not for fighting. It's for putting someone out of their misery, or for the execution of traitors. It deals out justice, whether it's mercy or condemnation.

Ah-ha, here's the relevant quote!

>"Two!? You poor soul!" She shakes her head firmly, "Keep them in line, or they will be unmanageable." She sighs, "I am distracting myself on purpose, I fear. Ooohhh..." Her shoulders slump, "Ma Déesse. I cannot side with such actions as I have heard, no matter the cause. The Lady's people did things that were unforgivable, things barbare et monstrueux!" Her fist hits the table so hard you're surprised she didn't bend the frame, heads turning around to stare at you all around the mess hall from the noise, "I cannot tolerate it! I shall NOT tolerate it! Yet the Lady herself was not on Mars, non? She was innocent. Sometimes, family goes astray, it is not her fault." She looks up at you with tears in her eyes for the second time today, "I...I am not responsible for this...this evil for being one of her Paladins, non? Please, Rowarc, please tell me I am not a monster."

You can figure out her situation and why she's having a rough time from that conversation. It's a little weird figuring out which of the girls she would get along with, because currently NONE of them like or trust her, only Red Siren and Karen strongly feel that she deserves to live, but she has a lot in common with Fatima, Clemmy, and Samantha in terms of what she believes.
>>
>>641281
>it got dragged out

True. Amos' sections are sometimes a little frustrating to write because it's supposed to be combat-heavy but there's still fluff that has to be done regarding the UJCIDF and the shady things happening on Qu'lir.
>>
>>641267

Once he put your name and face together it's extremely likely he knew exactly who you were even though Roarke takes after his mother more appearance-wise, and figuring out that fact isn't hard for Roarke so it's fair to tell you this.

"I cannot tolerate it! I shall NOT tolerate it! Yet the Lady herself was not on Mars, non? She was innocent. Sometimes, family goes astray, it is not her fault."

Is this really true?I think we should go Descartes moed and doubt everything, inclusive what we already know.

Guys, seriously, things are being hard for Lori and thats the moment she needs us the most, this is our chance to get her on our side and to question the dogma she belived untill now, to make her able of descovering the truth about the Lady. Let's stop this waifu war and get to the drills, shall we?

Nobody who makes human mecha 'rain from the sky' while fighting solo against Floyd Beck, Rudolph Merrow, and whatever units they brought with them is an innocent pacifistic flower girl of peace and understanding. I'm thinking of making the Elder-1 one of the first Martian animal mechs, from an special unit in the war that used a mix of animal and humanoid mechs to provoque the greenman in their belief of superiority by "Defeating the More-than-humans people, with LESS-than-human mechs". But as the war ended the survivors started an mech corporation that along time got more and more alway of animal design and started to focus more and more the Tanks and Airship popular designs, what made one of the technicians to build one of their old models to try and prove its valor in the SPACE JAM.

Interesting. So, THE PLAN: Divide our forces into three main organizations

First Fleet:
Commander: Admiral Roarke S. Starwind
Ships:
Battleship Rhinehawk (Flagship)
Heavy Cruiser Yammamoto
Light Cruiser Browning
Mecha Capacity: 250 (203 in use)

Second Fleet:
Commander: Commodore/Vice Admiral Miles Longshadow
Ships:
Battle cruiser /Light Battleship ??? Flagship
Heavy Cruiser Harmonium
Heavy Cruiser Goshawk
Mecha Capacity: 240 (99? In use)

Reserve Fleet:
Commander: Red Siren (Administrative)/ Her horribly overworked second in command (actual)
Ships:
Light Cruiser Heart of Sunshine (Flagship)
Transport: ???
Lightweight raiders X2
Mecha Capacity: 80

Generally speaking, at any one time one of the two fleets is at the Auditorium resting and refitting, while the other is out Doing Things (TM). The first fleet has most of the Aces, and generally does PLOT, while the Second Fleet frequently does most of the generic raiding activities, with bonuses for targeting Fairchild's assets. Because lets be honest, even though it makes a lot of sense for us to do so, there's a limited number of times that we can drop on some random transport that immediately surrenders because holy crap that's a battleship, before things become really boring. The Reserve Fleet generally does logistics and guards the Auditorium, as in keeping with Rosita's nonline Commodore/Port Admiral position.

We actually have everything in that order of battle. The Battlecruiser is the Avalonian ship, the lightweight raiders and the Heart of Sunshine are Red Siren's and the Transport is the one we used to infiltrate mars.
>>641787
>Oda should be in charge of second fleet instead.
I had him penciled in for taking command of the Third Fleet when he upgrades the Yammamoto into a battleship.

Its all about doing boring Mook stuff that the players don't want to bother with really. Which is Mile's specialty.

No, Miles specialty is management, not coordenation of attack forces. Let Harlock get in charge.
And i really appreciate your effort in making this plan, but i think that we need options of formations, not static strategies, we should have alternative plans to complement this first option.
Well, and about what we are going to do with the troops... I think we should send the second fleet plus the yamato to make THE RAID against an enemy almost of their size, just to test our forces (And make cash).
>>
>>642091
Miles is technically the second in command. From an organizational point of view it would make the most sense she be in charge of the second fleet. We cant just put some guy we met a week ago in charge.

Also does anyone know who is in charge of the goshawk?
>>
>>642105
Nobody it seems, and maybe we should appoint a new person our first mate? We could put Richard and Miles in Charge of the Goshawk they have enough experience that they should be able to handle it no problem
>>
>>642105
>Also does anyone know who is in charge of the goshawk?
It currently does not have a captain. I'd go with Basil personally though.
>>642113
Then who captains the battleship?
>>
>>642105
Man, if Miles is out there pirating, who is going to take care of her job of doing the day to day bureaucracy? Roarke?
It seems like a bad idea.
>>
>>642119
Since its a battleship I want to wait until we get someone whose around Roarke and Oda's level of fighting and with a good ability to lead. I have a feeling we might find someone like that during thee Tourney
>>
>>642130
We need someone we can trust and who has a longstanding relationship with us. I remind you that Ozark and the asshole captain weren't frontline combatants.
>>642127
>Man, if Miles is out there pirating, who is going to take care of her job of doing the day to day bureaucracy? Roarke?
Presumably still her, or random scrubs.
>>
Anyone know how widespread Beam melee weapons are?
>>
>>642113
Then we run into the problems of weather or not running a ship is a demotion or promotion from being first mate and who else qualifies for first mate. The only guy with a name we know for long enough is Oda.
>>642127
Well she seems to manage now and fly around.
>>
>>642091
>THE RAID against an enemy almost of their size, just to test our forces (And make cash).
Okay, as far as I know a force that size doesn't exist outside of a national military and picking a fight with one of them for no real reason is dumb. Also, please capitalize i to I.

>>642145
Fairly recent, but the tech has leaked like a sieve.
>>
>>642148
I do want it to be Oda despite how he seems he is a good captain and can actually make some pretty smart decisions
>>
>>642154
We've been pretty consistent about not letting him have an actual command position before.
>>
>>642130
The Gosshawk might make a good prize for the winner. Getting to be a captain of a ship would give the tourney a lot more drawing power, lot more reason to blow a ton of money on a random tournament for a pirate.
>>
>>642154
>>642159
Only real problem I can see with it is if it ticks off miles. Though if she gets put in charge of her own raiding group with its own battleship thats probably a promotion from first mate right?
>>
>>642180
Its all in how we phrase it, were letting her loose to go raid and fight to her hearts desire with her man and a brand new space ship/fleet
>>
>>642192
She could be a commodore.
>>
>>642180
Since We're an Admiral, and not a captain, our second in command is a Vice Admiral, not the first mate. I mean, Rorake probably needs a new minion to handle a lot of detail work, but that's what Martian Heiresses with a penchant for making her Hubbies life easier is for. She'll either do the paperwork herself or find someone who will do it for her.
>>
I'm assuming if we're not on the bridge, than Miles has control of our ship. And since we're more or less always on the front-lines, than she's basically the Rhinehawk's captain more than we are.
>>
With the money we make from the Tourney we should invest it in upgrading all of our captains ships and mechs. Oda's should be the same size as the Rhinehawk and the rest should be about one size below
>>

Actually, that fat kid actually control the bridge. Miles is our CAG basically.

You would have weight problems too if a bunch of bridge bunnies who know how to cook fed you stuff all the time.
>>
>>642235
Right
>>642238
We almost certainly aren't. And even if we were, spending all the money on an all battleship fleet would be silly. There's a reason why people also use smaller warships. Heck, our Fleet is already heavy in average size. Light cruisers are by far the most common warships around.
>>
>>642248
>You would have weight problems too if a bunch of bridge bunnies who know how to cook fed you stuff all the time.
In fact, that is almost why i got fat the first time. Didn't have bridge bunnies, though...

I'm pretty sure handheld weapons are stated to be assumed to be clamped to the mech's exterior when not in use. I can't recall for certain if you have to allocate where on the mech they are stowed, as you would a split powerplant, for them to be lost on servo destruction, though.

Seems it's intended to perform crowd control? Large amounts of entangling attacks don't really help against a single target. On the other hand, your tentacles can't be linked, so you'll probably have more targets escaping in a turn than you can grapple.

Perhaps drop the number of tentacles, and use the excess CP to convert the beam weapon to a Wide-angle?
>>
>>642568
The idea is to focus on one suit at a time, pin and dismember it's head and arms, i just don't know if its possible to double pin something.
And the great number of tentacles is to continue be functional even if 3 or 4 get cut out... And because of the animal in which the suit is inspired.
>>
>>642586
This came up in an early thread. Unless the ruling has changed, escaping a pin from a mech removes all ongoing grapples from it. Of course, you can pin multiple servos, but your enemy will only need one successful check.

Also, remember that having only Tails, and not Legs or Arms, precludes you from having a running MA, using tackles and drops, or indeed any melee attacks other than grapples since you haven't got any hands, feet or weapons mounted on your tentacles.

Nor, come to think of it, can you parry any attacks you fail to dodge with your admittedly somewhat bulky mech.

You might find that one a little bit of a problem.
>>
>>642601
The first idea was to make it an all arms mech, with "Tentacle adaptations for holding and hidden blades"(Hands), but the CP limit got in the way pretty hard.
I'm going to check on that rule in the book, and i may make the Elder-1-2 in a few minutes.

>>642731
Looks to me like you've not got any hands on that mech. Nothing wrong with that, just be aware that you won't be able to do grabs and grapples and the like.

To be blunt, what I'd honestly worry about is the lack of damage output. After damage reduction from armor, you're not going to be dealing much damage directly to enemy servos, which seems to be your main method of disabling your enemy (unlike the Elder-1, for instance, which at least has the option of Dismembers).

>>
>>642890
What about efficient transformation? I already made it but I dont think I'll use than mech now.
>>
>>642877

This would actually be kosher. Desert bandits are a pain in the ass on Mars, but it's rare to find one with a proper mech that doesn't get BTFO by the Holy Militia as a threat to the Caliph's peace. Which would explain why someone lucky enough to scrounge up a decent mech and take one of the Khanda Custom's beam claws as a sword might want to go to space to seek their fortune.
>>
>>642894

I don't actually remember how that works, refresh my memory.
>>

Transforming doesn't take an action. I feel it might not be allowed since it basically negates any disadvantage of jet mode.

>>642911
Supposing you never intended to make a mechafighter and only wanted it for the x2 MA on a humanoid, that's a x0.4 CP multiplier you're adding onto it as opposed to a bunch of Efficiencied thrusters.

From the other perspective, if you only ever wanted to make a mechafighter, and are just looking to get +2 MV, you're paying x0.4 CP as opposed to x0.2 and 10 Spaces.

It really isn't that ridiculous, unless you were always intending to make a transformer, in which case it's amazing.
>>
>>642936

An additional note, as far as fluff goes Weight Efficiency IS verniers for 200+CP machines. Like, if IC someone asked Karen why the Kaiser doesn't have verniers, she'd think they were blind and point them to the dorsal maneuvering thrusters, heeljets, and kneejets despite the fact that verniers IN CRUNCH appear nowhere on its sheet.

I get that much. I was more thinking of the ruling that we calculate MV pre-weight efficiency. How would this interact with weight inefficiency?
>>
>>643027
Unless I'm mistaken, you buy thrusters with whole CP, fitting them into the spaces you have, and then calculate your MA based on your post-efficiency weight and the amount of thrust you've got. You'll end up with a fractional value, which you round off to the nearest whole number (or round up, I'm not clear on this one).
>>
>>643049
From what I am reading, you calculate Thrusters based on Final Weight, AFTER Weight Efficiency.

It's no longer restricted to SOUL now that the testing stages are out of the way. Granted, if you're a technician and make something cool with it, odds are good you'll get reassigned to SOUL and your design would be used as a SOUL mech.

>Is double grappling possible to a same target servo? Can i use Four tentacles to grapple an arm an subject the enemy to four tests to escape?

Weeaboo question
>Do futa-gene-moded waifus exists?Do we have them in the Solar system like we have a few Qu'lr, or are they the stuff of legends to which Storm Dragons pilots go in holy quests to find?
>>
>>643032

>>643060

>>
>>643063

I blame my confusion on the way the rules are written.
>>
>>643077
Odd. I remember you saying something to that extent quite a few threads back. Perhaps it was MA instead? It's been quite some time, so I might be a little hazy.
>>
>>643063
>>643087
Right, so it's MA calculated before Weight Efficiency, MV calculated after.

So, does this conversely mean that a Weight Inefficiencied mech can still able to move across the field at blistering speeds, but will likely not be able to hit anything?
>>
>>643027
>>643049
>>643060

Hold up. You know what, I'm just going to explain how I do it.

Let's say I have a mech that weighs exactly 50 tons. I want it to go 400 meters per turn (8 hexes). This costs 0.3(50), or 15 CP and Spaces. Now, let's say I use Weight Efficiency afterward to lower its weight to 39. I'd still need 15 CP and Spaces to make it go 400 meters per turn.

Also when rounding, I round to the nearest whole number.

Did that help?
>>
>>643100

Yes, in theory. Which actually makes it a decent option for mecha that are in

tended for transport rather than combat.

>>643087

MV and MA are easy to confuse, and there's a very poorly-worded chart somewhere that adds to it.
>>
>>643101
De nada. I still don't get the whole buying thrusters thingy. How much does one thruster cost? Do they take up spaces in the servos? If I buy X thrusters, do they move MA X or do I use fancy Ph.D math to figure it our?
>>
>>643110

...How on Earth did I break up that line like that?
>>
>>643101
I gotta tell ya, now that I'm not fucking with Modifiers, it's a lot easier to handle these costs.
>>
>>643111

There's not necessarily a direct correlation between the number of thrusters your mech has and how many you buy. 15 CP and 15 Spaces of thrusters could be fluffed as fifteen small thrusters or one honking big one.

You use a chart in the book, but the actual math is W(0.0375) per 1 MA where W equals your mech's weight in tons. 1 CP of thrusters takes up 1 Space.
>>
>>643129

And by 1 MA I mean "fifty meters per turn" since we're kind of ignoring hexes in this game.

It was already answered by someone else.

As for the futa question? I never really thought about it. I mean, if it's biologically possible someone could probably do it, but genemodding is taboo enough that the Qu'liri, who aren't that far off from vanilla humans, are viewed as iffy. The Jovians are substantially nicer about it than the Martians, as you can see from Marilyn having a relatively high rank as a technician (chief mechanic of a Jovian light cruiser). The thing is, most Qu'liri who aren't old cats were born that way, so the legal argument goes that it's not really their fault. Deliberately genemodding yourself into a hermaphrodite would be a flagrant violation of Solar taboos.

Also, waifus are mythological beings from the ancient tales of the Home-Dwelling Sages, Storm Dragons don't quest for them because you're supposed to encounter them naturally. Let alone futanari ones.

It definitely fits in well with this quest, except that you really should get weapons linkage for the wing guns, otherwise it would be kind of pointless to have two unless you lose a wing.

MA 10 would NOT cost 10 CP! It would cost 50 (the weight of your mech in tons) times 0.375 (which the chart in the book lists as the multiple for MA 10) for a total of 18.75, which would get rounded to 19 CP and Spaces. I recommend reading the book itself.

During the War it was a military alliance and a nonagression pact, both of which still exist today. NATO is probably the best analogue, only more like Donald Trump's version of NATO where if you want that sweet, sweet USA protection you either have to contribute or pay. This is part of the reason why Saturn and the outer planets don't get mentioned much, they're firmly under Jupiter's thumb and use Jovian mecha predominantly.

The more i hear from that religion, the more i want to know about it...
>Deliberately genemodding yourself into a hermaphrodite would be a flagrant violation of Solar taboos.
Hm...what i meant was, with the number of planets that were controled by the CUSS in its power peak, there is probably a great variety of gene moded beings who were born that way along the many years that passed... So i got curious about what sort of "augmented" people that may exist out there in the outer systems, and if there was any in which futa existed.

So...What CAN you say about the outer planets which the SSL know about, and their augmented population? any other Gene-moded race of notice other than the Qu'liri?

How much interest do you guys have in this?

Colonies burning over someone innocently saying "Aren't you a little short for a pirate captain?"

The thing is, though, if you ACTUALLY made Miles a Captain instead of Roarke's First Mate, and replaced her with Oda, you would definitely be demoting one of them and promoting the other. Who, exactly, is unclear because this particular system of organization is completely new and as I've alluded to earlier when discussing the chain of command and who exactly is in charge it's unclear which positions are the most powerful. As far as pirate fleets go, the Iron Kestrels are unprecedented. Even comparing them to the Green Skulls doesn't work, because there was a strict chain of command going from Galbadie to the First Mate and Bosun and from there to the captains of individual ships. The Green Skulls didn't have notable powerhouse captains like Oda floating around, let alone the mess that is the waifu squad.

To explain what a mess it is, three of the waifus have pirate cred. Red Siren, Karen, and Samantha. Red Siren is independent and has the most direct power because Auditorium is hers, but being independent limits her authority with Iron Kestrels, Stone Soldiers, and Storm Dragons significantly. Karen is sort of like a mascot to the Iron Kestrels and a lot of them would happily take a bullet for her because she's Ozark's daughter...but she is completely apolitical outside of harem politics and doesn't want to command anyone, so any influence she has goes unused. Samantha is former military, has no direct subordinates, but has still embraced piracy with some willingness, is well-liked by the Iron Kestrels (and the Storm Dragons and Stone Soldiers) and has repeatedly proven how useful she is on various missions along with the fact that she helped the Kestrels get revenge on the Green Skulls and kickstarted the growth of the fleet. And then you have Fatima and Clemmy with zero pirate credentials but a notable propensity for bullying until they get their way.
>>
>>643317

It means that you effectively fire both at once with each attack roll. If you hit, you hit with both.

I could go into more detail, but that detail would be confusing and irrelevant unless someone tried to exploit the system.

Wait, no, thread 19:
>Venus is a vacation planet these days.

>See, after the nuclear conflict, Mars wasn't directly inhabitable. For starters, the gravity there just isn't sufficient, while a floating city on Venus (apparently) works fine. Huge proto-colonies were erected there, and for a while it was basically THE capital of the Solar System. Then it was discovered that crashing Mars' two moons (later replaced by artificial satellites) into the planet itself would give it more gravity and help establish an atmosphere. The terraforming of Mars began in earnest and Venus kind of lost most of its purpose over a few generations. It's a lovely place to live, really, but it doesn't have its own particular culture or mecha, mostly serving as an extension of Terra and Luna.
>>
>>643490
Guys... I Think its time for we to make a wiki, exactly because of these kind of things, every time we need some obscure information we need to dig up on old threads again and again...
>>
>>643423
Have you actually said anything about Pluto or Charon by the way?
>>
>>643518
IIRC, they're uninhabited because there's nothing there.
>>
>>643437

I'll just tell you again, it's easier that way.

Venus was actually the first planet colonized after the nuclear conflict, prior to the development of gate technology and when terraforming was still a bold new scientific frontier, in part because terraforming Venus is easier than terraforming Mars. With Earth mostly uninhabitable, the bulk of humanity's survivors moved either to the early colonies, or to Venus. The so-called Venusian Age was a high point in the planet's importance and culture. Its floating cities are still beautiful and make Venus a popular resort world, but after the technology used to make colonies advanced and new worlds were terraformed, its importance drastically waned. Venus has few extant colonies and a much smaller population than Mars, very multicultural and not very politically important. They're simultaneously viewed as being both very decadent and very much under the thumb of Luna and Terra.

Nobody lives on Mercury and nobody would want to, and the same goes for Pluto.

True, because she's one of the few things Red Siren and Karen agree on, specifically they're against handing her over to anyone who wants to kill her.

Coincidentally, they're the two who have known Roarke the longest, and their opinions both have an edge of "We know Roarke isn't going to let her die."

Samantha is quietly content with whatever you decide, and is torn between wanting to treat a prisoner fairly and the fact that Loriette has definitely killed Jovian troops before on the battlefield.

Fatima and Clemmy would both be perfectly happy to kick her down a well headfirst except that it would make you sad, akin to a parent whose child has an extremely annoying pet.

Here's the rank structure I had in mind:
Admiral
Vice Admiral (Effectively the first mate to the admiral, since there's only one of these)
Commodore
Captain
First Mate
Bosun
2nd Mate
ect.

Admiral is Rorake, Vice Admiral serves the same function as a first mate does in a smaller pirate crew, there is only one of these. Commodore is the title given to someone who commands multiple ships such as a fleet/squadron. There are also Line and NonLine ranks. Nonline ranks don't have command authority in action, like how a navy doctor isn't expected to ever lead a fleet however high rank he or she attains. Red Siren has the "Courtesy" nonline rank of Commodore in the Iron Kestrel framework. Miles is Vice Admiral, and her Beau is around to stop her from overreacting. Oda would be the Senior Captain, with the understanding that he's next in line for a promotion to Commodore, and that his Yammamoto is first in line for being upsized.
>>
>>643651

But then what do you do with Richard? As Bosun, he's in charge of enforcing discipline, taking complaints, and acting as a bridge between you and the crew. Fleet Commissar? Ah well, that's for you guys to work out.

I think Vice-Admiral should be one of the other Captains. Sure, Miles is a good CO, but so long as she doesn't command a ship and crew of her own, she wouldn't have the rep for the other Captains to follow. Most likely is that we can't have a VP until one of the crew steps up and is someone we can trust to not neglect everything we've build so far. I suggest that Miles be given the Avalonian ship as a test for VA in the next big operations. And 2nd in line should be Oda and plans to retreat back to the Auditorium should feces hit the ventilation.

Isidro would make a good son for Rosita

And as far as pecking order how about
>Admiral (Roarke)
>Vice Admiral (Oda)
>Rear Admiral (Rosita)
>Captains (Flint, Beckingham)
>First Mate (Miles)
>Bosun (Richard)

And as far as it would work for people on the same level, seniortiy would have the most pull
(i.e If we put Miles/Richard as captains they would out rank Flint and Beckingham while being under Rosita)

And as far as Sam, Clemmy, and Fatima go they are our personal squad and answer directly to us and follow only our orders unless we say else wise (Clemmy your with Flint's squad for this mission follow his orders)
>>
>>645058
Yeah, that'll do. Though it makes more sense for Red Siren to be an independent Commodore. That way she doesn't fall under Flint or Beckingham while maintaining her own independence. Also, if anons still want Miles to be VA, they need her to be able to lead a crew and ship on her own.

Well... I just noticed that the price for interservo melee weapon linkage not cross linked is just 3CP...but if they are hands, you get to choose the target of the second hand attack anyway.

So... by paying 3CP to link its Fists, they walkure can do 4 punch in an action and distriute them between two targets if the pilot wish it, right?

Thats it for me tonight... The sun is already up and i need to get some sleep.

But here is the Elder-1-2, a "Lighter" version of the original that also has the "INCREDIBLE" capacity to hold weapons (in a bizzarre mutant octopus meets machine wizardry way)! But is also more fragile than the original, even if its better on holding people's mechs.

Idk who is stronger... But if the first is more "realible" the second one depends more on the skill of the pilot, and can be more letal in the right circunstances...
http://pastebin.com/tNdU4f1B
>>
>>645351

I don't think it works that way, it would be kind of cheap if they did because it would make the cheaper option flat-out better. The whole idea is that it's easier to aim in melee, but if you're flailing superfast that goes out the window.

Also, confirming that we'll have a new thread this evening when we get started. It might be a relatively short one tonight, but we'll at least get set for the raid.
>>
>>646088
As an aside, would you prefer us to submit a single pilot background with our mech, or a pair and let you chose between them?
>>
>>646088
I does at least make sense in that way, because "handy" serve to take away the calling shots penalty(and you pay 1.5x for that, while a sword would pay only +1CP in the link, much cheaper).
>because it would make the cheaper option flat-out better
Only for hands, not "handy" weapons don't get to call shots without penalty, swords, axes and other weapons users pay less to get the same effect of the hands when linking their weapons

Example:
6k Intersevo-(Handy and Quick)Linked Fists (9CP each, plus 3 CP interlink, 21CP)
6k Linked-(Quick)Swords(6CP each, plus 4CP Melee-link,16CP)
Both have the same effect and cause the same damage, and the Swords are cheaper, the only diference is that the fist can grab the opponent and hold weapons...But the Sword mech could just buy 2CP hands for that and he still would be cheaper.

Maybe the "Handy" add on lets the player choose to apply the second attack in another location as i said above... What would make sense by the "Only one roll for both attacks","Not linked weapons must roll for different locations" and "Hands get to call shots without penalty and don't need to roll for location" rules, which would apply to "Intersevo but not cross-linked hands", but that is speculation.
>>
>>646814
the extra pay for hands comes in the fact that you can do a lot of tricks with them compared to normal weapons. Grapples, sensor jabs, grabbing and stealing a enemy's weapons all require hands to do so. A standard melee weapon would be cheaper, but the thing is mostly for stabbing and fatal take downs. The penalties suck in some cases, but the point stands that it grants a larger number of moves and possibilities than a standard weapon.
>>
>>648396
Yes, you are right, thats part of the reason why they are expensive, but part of the discussion here is how much does intersevo linked hands costs,7CP(Intersevo+Melee link), 3CP(Interservo-Cross-linked) or 2CP(Intersevo-but not cross linked), As cross linking does not seems to make sense for hands if they can choose their targets anyway.
>>
>>648427
Hands are purchased as melee weapons, and therefore require Melee Weapon links. They are (usually) on different servos, and therefore require Interservo links.

As is stated in the Combat section of the Core Rulebook, all close-contact attacks (i.e. Melee and Brawling) are automatically Called Shots, and therefore you can call multiple shots on the same body location without being Cross-linked and with no penalty (this does not apply to special locations such as sensors, but you would take the same penalties for calling shots with or without Cross-linking anyway).

Hence, you would need 6 CP for a non-Cross-linked Interservo Melee Weapon Link.

Of course, Wong may rule otherwise, though.

>6 CP
5. You would need 5 CP. Math is hard.
>>
>>648427
It'd be melee interservo since even if you get down to it, they are still a melee weapon. Just because something is hand shaped does not mean that the various connections and the like work as well. This is a machine. Even with advance technology, you still need the various doodads to make things work in synch, especially in a heated conflict. I see it like the difference between some who flails and someone who is trained. You can be very accurate and hurt with your flailing, but that does not mean you'd be able to smack them in the head constantly.
>>
>>648492
I'm unsure why one would assume that the machine would be flailing when attacking with Linked Quick weapons.

Purchasing Linked weapons specifically tunes your machine to attack once each with two different weapons each at the same efficiency, and purchasing Quick weapons specifically tunes your machine to attack twice with one weapon at the same efficiency as previously.

Unless you're actually approaching the limits of your programming or mechanical engineering ability, there's no reason to assume that there would be any appreciable loss of efficiency or increased likelihood of missing here, at least on the machine side.

They way I see it you are loosing a bit of precision because you are cutting corners, which is exactly what you are doing by getting the cheaper option.

Although I can see a couple situations where you might prefer the weapons to hit random targets rather than all on one.

Guys, check the example in the advanced manual, page 14.

The rapier uses 3CP only to Cross-link weapons in an intersevo link, it doesn't pay 2 to cross link and 3 to intersevo, it just pays the 3CP from the intersevo link.

Meanwhile, when it links WEAPONS INSIDE THE SAME SERVO it pays the normal link cost(2 for long-ranged weapons and 4 to melee).

As the example goes, the Rapier pays 4 CP for each "Triple weapon crosslink" inside each arm ,plus 3CP to interservo.

So, by logic, things should go this way:

4CP to Melee link inside the same servo, 3CP if they are only linked, but not cross linked.

3CP To Cross-link anything interservo, 2CP if only linked but not cross-linked.

2CP to Cross-Link long range weapons inside the same servo, 1CP if only linked but not cross-linked.

Linked= Attack in the same action and with the same roll, but rolls for locations independently.

Cross-Linked=Attacks with the same action and roll, and target the same servo as the first attack.

Melee Weapons don't get to call shots, because the description of the Melee link says so, they have to roll location the same way Long-Ranged do, and if you pay only the 3CP Melee-link each attack rolls for location independently.

(Hands are an exception, because they get to call shots anyway as stated in the corebook, so they only get the 2CP interservo link.)

Way I see it, the link serves as being able to competently fire two weapons at once. That does not mean you will hit the same spot on the target. For fighting with a melee weapon thats a big issue as well since even if you can use weapons in both hands, your stance, skill, and even things like how dominant one hand is compared to the other will get in the way. Even if they are the same weapon, it'd do better in the familiar hand. So the first one would do the called shot, but the second would be random.

Quick weapons have been called many things light, small weapons like daggers or fists, dual bladed weapons, maybe something like a flail or cat of nine tails with multiple heads. That does not mean two can be used with no issue.

In short, the link makes it so you can use the two weapons safely. The extra bits make it compensate or assist with you if you are say left or right handed.

>Melee Weapons don't get to call shots, because the description of the Melee link says so, they have to roll location the same way Long-Ranged do, and if you pay only the 3CP Melee-link each attack rolls for location independently.
I may be wrong in this... Maybe you are right, when you buy the 3CP Melee link, only the second attack rolls location.
>>
>>648676
I dont think what hand is dominant matters with a mech but everything else is fine.
>>
Rechecked the Core Rulebook. If we're going with the interpretation that Cross-linking actually serves a purpose on a Melee Weapon Link, pic related is probably what happens if you don't Cross-link them, presumably overriding the 'All close-contact attacks are called shots' rule from the Combat section.

Because if it didn't override that rule, then Cross-linked Melee Weapons serve no purpose.

Not sure where Hands getting to call shots anyway is from, but I'll take Wong's word for it.

Would we have to purchase Cross-linking twice (in both Melee Weapon and Interservo Links) for a total of 7 CP, or will just once for 6 CP suffice?

With HMIS, it may matter.
>>
>>648753
See this below:
>>648645

And the hands thing is in the combat part i think, and i don't remember anything about Melee Weapons getting to call shots, the part in which speaks about it says that only Hands,Claws and etc get to call shots.
>>
>>648755
Considering it lets you fly jets with your mind and use mechs with multiple arms its probably not much of a problem.
>>
>>648735
Eh, sorta when you think of it like remote or mind controlled or what have you. There is also the fact that somethings just don't transfer properly so the link serves as a means of fine tuning and using various macros and the like to keep up with the pilot. Sorta like ACE systems in the sense. While ACE allows to make the most of the pilot thanks to fine tuning and making it more responsive, the full link could allow for a better basic connection with the limbs. Compensating for some things.

While ruling things in accordance with what makes sense is perfectly sensible, as a player I generally go with RAW as standard in absence of GM ruling (unless RAI is also clear). In this case, the problem is that we have two conflicting specific rules, and it's not clear which takes precedence.

Luckily, Wong is here.

Still, I would argue that not all Quick weapons need necessarily be light. I would stat a jackhammer as a Quick weapon, and if I pointed two of them at someone's head, I should hope to hit the head every time.

>>648793
Pic related.
>>
>>648811
Hows it work in a situation where you have two right arms and no left arm?
>>
>>648822
For the person or the machine? Probably the same either way. Just because they are on the same side does not mean they'd be fully synched naturally, and such a thing would likely be a full link between them. Hell, in that situation with HMIS it would be weird to control anyways since you are controlling a secondary limb that you wouldn't normally have. It's why Jets and tanks give MV penalties if I recall right.
>>
>>648817
Shit, you could just take a regular weapon and slap a load of thrusters to it.
>>648862
But asymmetrical humanoid mechs dont get a penalty no matter how lopsided they are.
>>
>>648817
Yeah, you are right about melee getting to call shots.

So... What does Melee Cross-link give?
>>
>>648885
That's my point on conflicting rules. Pics in >>648817 and >>648753 seem to indicate different things for Melee Weapon Links.

Going by what makes sense from a rules-writing standpoint, randomly rolling the second hit location should take precedence purely because the alternative would render Melee Cross-Links obsolete.

On the other hand, Mekton Z isn't exactly known for having the most well-balanced rules, and the Melee Attacks rules ARE in bold...

>>648878
>Shit, you could just take a regular weapon and slap a load of thrusters to it.
Funny story about that. I was bored and decided to stat up some things for fun earlier. Perhaps I might post them here.

Anyone got a link to the guide or pdf. wanna try my hand at making something.

Try asking wong. the other thread is up by the way.
>>
>>648753
Dude, melee link is from the Advanced Tech Manual.
>>
>>648997
Yes, and the Melee Link paragraph is incredibly sparse on its actual mechanical effects.

Still, Wong has made a ruling in the new thread, so let's go with that.
>>
Has it started?

Yes
