>Information

This quest takes place long before the events of The Last Airbender. Long before Aang, Roku, Kyoshi, Kuruk, or Yangchen. You play as a young Earthbender from a small village in one of the many Kingdoms scattered across the main continent. As a powerful villain strives to dominate the world, you will be forced to make choices that can stop it, aid it, or have no effect whatsoever.

>Rules

After each update I make, there will be a voting period of ten minutes. Once ten minutes have passed, whatever option has the most support will be the winner.

Write-ins are accepted, but only when specified If you see a write-in option, suggest whatever you like. If not, choose from the options I have provided.

Sometimes, rolls will be required. I will assign them, and they will operate under a d100 system. You will have three chances, and if one of the rolls succeeds, you pass. There are no crits, but I do take into account how much you succeed or fail by.

I reserve the right to veto certain write-ins, but will try to avoid doing so.

I hope you all have fun

"You're serious?" Mauya asks, staring at the massive beast that now stands warily at the edge of the camp.

"Yeah," Lantana answers, beaming. "Pengsong's going to come with us!"

Sansha raises an eyebrow, stifling a chuckle. "Pengsong?"

The Avatar gives an eager nod. "He can carry us when we're too tired to walk, and help protect us. We can feed him and protect him, everybody wins."

"What does a monster like that need protecting from?" Mauya inquires, only to shrink back in retreat when the Elephant Mandrill, evidently dissatisfied with being called a "monster", bares its teeth and lets out one of its terrifying shrieks.

"We saved him from some poachers," Lantana explains, calming the creature by gently rubbing his head. "And without Sansha's village around to keep track of them, there's going to be a lot more. It won't be safe for him out here."

"How can you even tell it's a "he"?" Mauya asks.

"That's a good point," Sansha agrees. "Hold on, I'll check."

"Pengsong seems pretty smart," you observe. "And he hasn't done anything violent. I definitely agree with Lantana."

The Avatar grins wider, pleased to have you backing her up.

"We are going to need a saddle, though," you point out.

"Well, there aren't really any villages for us to stop at," Lantana tells you. "So, I guess for now, we should just walk, or hold on tight when we ride."

Sansha, climbing out from under Pengsong, chimes in on the issue. "Actually, there is a village just at the edge of the mountain range. The Air Nomads sometimes stop there to make some trades."

Both Lantana and Mauya look at the other girl with interest, and you bet they're thinking along the same lines as you; if you go to that village, there's a chance you could find an Airbending teacher for Lantana without having to travel through the mountains.

"Didn't you see it on the map?" Sansha asks.

Lantana pulls the map from her bag, unrolling it and scanning it closely before giving a nod. "Yeah, I see it, right at the Southern edge of the mountain range. It's not very big."

"No, not very big," Sansha agrees. "And probably even less big if they sent their men West. Hopefully, someone there can sell us a saddle."

>A. Sounds like a good idea

"Sounds like a good idea," you tell Sansha.

"Well, we should probably get some rest," Lantana tells everyone. "We should be able to reach the village by tomorrow night if we get up early."

"A change of scenery does sound nice," Mauya admits. "Oh, almost forgot, I saved you three some dinner. I didn't know you were bringing company, though."

"That's alright," Sansha tells her. "I think he already found dinner."

Looking toward the creature, you see it raise its head, and a lizard writhing between its teeth. Pengsong throws his head back and gulps the small reptile down.

Lantana chuckles, petting her new friend before approaching the fire, which is slowly dying. She takes a seat, and Mauya passes her some food. Sansha and yourself join her, and the three of you enjoy a late meal.

Once dinner comes to an end, and the cleanup is complete, you offer to take first watch.

Mauya has no problem with that, nor does Lantana. Sansha seems a bit surprised, as she almost always is the first one to act as lookout, but nonetheless accepts your offer, bidding your goodnight before heading to the Earthbending-made tent Lantana has provided for her.

Once everyone is safely asleep inside of their tents, you pull a rock from below the ground, leaning against it and looking to the South. Pengsong, you notice, begins to move toward Lantana's tent, sniffing at it and peaking inside before taking a few steps back and lying down on his side.

The night is quiet, save the sounds of a few insects, and soon, the snoring of your group's latest member. You have a few hours before you need to wake someone up, and how you spend them is largely up to you, so long as you keep watch.

Lack of sleep is becoming an issue for pretty much everyone at this point. Over-exerting yourself when you're tired is just asking for things to get even worse. And, so you sit, keeping your eyes trained on the South as you rest your weary body against the rock behind you. You can feel yourself steadily becoming more and more drowsy as time passes, and by the time an hour has come and gone, you're barely awake. Still, you keep your eyes trained on the South, watching for any attackers.

But, the attack doesn't come from the South.

Your first warning is when Pengsong awakens, rising to his feet and letting out a low growl, which quickly turns into a warning shriek. The sound rouses the others from their sleep, and jolts you into full alert. Rising from your sitting position, you look expectantly toward the South, only to hear Mauya shout for everyone to look out.

A colossal rock, the size of a house, comes flying from the East, and everyone in the camp scrambles to avoid it before it crashes on the western edge of the camp, flattening Mauya and Lantana's tents.

"I guess this is the "hunter" we've hear so much about," Sansha says.

"Probably a safe bet," Mauya agrees.

Pengsong once more lets out a shriek toward the East, and you spot something large fast approaching. Sansha immediately draws her sword, getting into a fighting stance and readying herself for battle. Mauya uncorks her canteen, preparing to do whatever she can with her limited water supply. Lantana kneels, punching the ground with both hands, coating her fists in stone.

The approaching figure soon becomes clearer, and you find yourself staring at a nightmarish beast.

It's a four-legged creature, quite large in size, perhaps even larger than Pengsong. Brown in color on the lower half of its body, its back and part of its head are black. Its face is quite frightening, with a long snout that ends in several pink tendrils which surround its large nose. As it draws even closer, you can't seem to find any eyes on its face.

And, riding on its back is a man. He's fairly tall, but no giant, and quite muscular. He has short, dark hair, and some sort of odd design painted in red around his left eye. He wears simple armor, and nothing else of note.

The creature comes to a stop a short distance from your team, and the man slides off its back, patting its side as it growls lowly toward you and the others. Pengsong howls, stepping toward it, only for a wall of Earth to rise and block its path. Glancing over, you see Lantana return to her previous stance.

The man begins to approach, and that's when you see that he's holding two short swords, each one hooked to a chain wrapped around his arms.

"You didn't get as far as I was hoping," the man comments, swinging his blades and letting the chains unwrap just a bit. "I figured the Avatar would give me a better chase."

"Are you "the hunter"?" you inquire.

"I am Lieren," the man answers, continuing to spin his blades. "The greatest hunter in this world. You must be the one who killed Jungo. You hardly look the part of a great Earthbender, but Kalana isn't one for exaggeration. I hope that you will provide me with some sport."

"You really think you can take on all four of us?" Sansha asks, eyeing his blades warily.

"Without a doubt," Lieren answers. "Though, I hope you provide me with a challenge. I would hate for my victory over the Avatar and her allies to be easy."

"Trust me, it won't be," Lantana promises, her tone defiant and her eyes shining with ferocity.

Lieren grins. "Perfect."

"What's that creature you came here on?" you ask, looking toward the great beast that seems content to keep its distance.

"His name is Wen," Lieren tells you. "And you needn't worry about him. I intend to fight the four of you alone."

His eyes shift toward Pengsong. "Or, five of you, I suppose. Now, Kalana wants the Avatar alive, but I'm free to kill the rest of you. If you like, you can surrender now, and I'll let you live. But, I hope you try to fight."

You pull a tiny pebble from the ground, calling it to your open hand, only for it to be crushed into dust before it even reaches you.

"Sneaky," Lieren comments, his expression amused as he observes the one of shock on your face. "But, I'm not so careless as Jungo. The only way to defeat me is through overwhelming force, and none of you have the power to match me, I can assure you of that."

"We'll see," Lantana tells him, pulling a massive chunk of Earth from the ground and hurling it toward Lieren, who launches himself back to avoid it, sending it flying back at Lantana the second he lands.

With a yell, Lantana punches the boulder, shattering it into pieces, only for those pieces to begin swelling around her, breaking into tiny chunks that begin to pelt her much like your stone bullet.

Lantana raises her arms to cover herself, curling her body as she endured the barrage, and Sansha gives a loud battle cry, rushing toward Lieren. The Earthbender extends his right arm toward the charging warrior, hurling one of his blades toward her.

Sansha parries the blade, but is caught off-guard when it swings back around, going low and wrapping the chain attached to it around her left ankle. With a yank, Lieren pulls Sansha off of her feet, and she cries out in surprise as she falls to the ground, the sword dropping from her hand.

Rushing forward, you attempt to lend Sansha a hand, stomping on the ground and trying to use your bending to shift the ground beneath Liren's feet. Unfortunately for you, the hunter sees your movement, and before you can make your move, he stomps on the ground, and you find yourself hurled backwards, hitting the ground painfully and rolling head over heels before coming to a rest on your stomach.

As you raise your head, you see Litern pull backward with his right arm, and Sansha beginning to be dragged toward him, far faster than she should be. Lantana, meanwhile, raises two more massive bits of rock, throwing them at Lieren from his left and right. The Earthbender once more launches himself to avoid it, this time moving forward, and turning his focus on Lantana when he lands.

The Avatar drops into a basic fighting stance, stone-covered fists raised and ready for a brawl. And, that's why Lieren is able to win that little exchange without throwing a punch.

Giving the girl a look of bewilderment, he takes a step toward her.

"You really are a fool."

He makes a motion with his hands, and Lantana lets out an agonized shriek. It takes you only a moment to understand what's happened as she falls to her knees, tears running from her eyes.

Lieren has used his Earthbending on the stone surrounding Lantana's hands, much like you attempted to do in your battle with Shing. In this case, however, the attack was successful, and Liren seems to have broken the Avatar's wrists.

As Lantana continues to voice her pain, you push yourself back up to your feet, your face twisting in anger as you stomp in Lieren's direction.

Earth rises and begins to coat the other bender's feet, only to shatter and be thrown into every direction as the hunter turns his gaze to you.

"You should really stay down," he advises, raising his left hand and stomping.

You see nothing, but when he makes a pulling motion, something slams into your back, throwing you to the ground. The wind is knocked from your lungs, and you struggle to push yourself back up.

"Not nearly as challenging as I was expecting," Lieren comments, sounding disappointed.

A yell catches both of your attentions, and you see Sansha, now freed, hurling her sword toward Lieren's face. The Earthbender swats it aside with one of his own blades, then bends the ground beneath the girl;s feet, sucking her down to her waist into the dirt.

He makes a pulling motion, and the blade that had been wrapped around Sansha flies back into it, as if by magic. Spinning his blades on their chains, he begins to march closer to your group, eyes shifting between yourself and Sansha.

"You," you answer boldly, getting back to your feet, only to be immediately thrown to the ground again as the ground beneath you is shifted. Earth rises quickly, covering your arms and legs, restraining your body, and severely limiting your ability to Earthbend.

"Well, looks like I have a volunteer," Lieren tells you, ignoring Sansha altogether as be starts moving toward you, casually spinning his blades as he draws closer. "You're a stubborn one, kid. I can see how you might be a handful to most people. But, then, I'm not most people."

As he takes another step, water hits his right leg, freezing into ice, and restricting his movement. The hunter looks over to see a terrified looking Mauya, hands raised after just completing that little bit of Waterbending.

Moving his right arm toward the girl, Lieren sends one of his blades out, the chain wrapping around Mauya's neck. With a pull, he roughly throws her to the ground, thankfully not breaking her neck. You watch as the blade seemingly unwraps the chain to which it's attached from the girl's neck, and returns to its master's hand. Earth quickly rises to surround the ice, and you see pain briefly appear on Lieren's face before the Earth sinks back down, revealing the ice no longer there.

H looks toward Mauya, restraining her in the same way that she did you.

"Well, nice try," he tells the girl. "Now I may have to reconsider who to kill first. Oh well, I guess order doesn't matter. You'll all die anyway."

He looks toward Lantana. "Are you watching, Avatar? All of your little friends are about to die, and I want you to see it. Consider it your punishment for not putting up a fight. Then, I'll take you to Kalana, and she'll probably do the honors and finish you off."

You struggle to free yourself from the restraints your enemy has created, but have absolutely no luck. Lieren continues coming for you, a smirk on his face as he observes your vain efforts to escape.

"Try to scrounge up a little dignity," he encourages. "And don't feel too bad. You aren't the first I've beaten, and you won't be the last."

"No, stop it!" Lantana cries out, rising to her feet.

"Yes," Lieren tells her, glancing back. "Your friends will die, and you will follow. This is how your story ends, children."

Pengsong lets out an ear-splitting shriek, rushing toward the Earthbender, only to be boxed in with more walls.

"It's all over," Lieren declares. "Say goodbye."

"NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" Lantana shrieks, her eyes glowing and a powerful wind blowing around her body.

Lieren frowns, looking toward her.

Lantana first glances down at her broken hands, then glares at the hunter with a fury you have never seen in her. Without a word, she rushes forward, moving at speeds that shouldn't be humanly possible as she charges at Lieren.

The hunter, displaying an impressive reaction time, thrusts his hands toward the approaching girl, sending out his blades with the aim of skewering her. But, Lantana leaps over the blades, flipping and kicking toward Lieren with both feet, unleashing a blast of fire that strikes the man in the face.

Lieren lets out a shriek of agony, falling onto his back. Lantana lands in front of him, eyeing the wounded man with contempt.

Not about to let himself be finished off, Lieren rises to his feet, and you quickly look away as you see how horribly burnt his face is. He calls his blades back into his hands, roaring with exertion as he raises his hands toward the sky.

The ground begins to shake, and you watch as an absolutely colossal chunk of Earth is ripped out. It looks larger than your own house, which was two stories high.

"You might be able to dodge this, but your friends can't!" he declares, hurling the massive chunk of ground at the Avatar.

Lantana takes in a deep breath, then blows, and you watch as the rock is stopped halfway toward her. Lieren growls furiously, holding his arms toward it, and you see the rock begin to shake. Then, to your astonishment, it resumes its path toward Lantana.

The girl's glowing eyes widen in surprise, but she quickly takes another deep breath and blows, this time unleashing a torrent of fire. The heat of it is so intense that it burns the rock down to nothing before Lantana can be hit.

Jaw clenched in frustration, and eyes wide with horror, Lieren backs away. "Next time, Avatar."

With that vow, he launches himself onto his creature, turning it around and fleeing from the scene of the battle. Lantana watches him go, then turns toward you. She lifts her head, and the stone encasing your arms and legs breaks apart, allowing you to stand. She then proceeds to free both Sansha and Mauya.

Mauya, looking even more terrified at being addressed, seems unable to respond.

The other NPCs that travel with us will probably brainstorm ways to make us upset and tease us to ensure we stay powerful, even when far away from an ocean or a salt flat.

As you struggle to overcome your own shock, you call out to Mauya, repeatedly shouting her name until you get her attention.

She looks over at you as if she's just come out of a daze, and you instruct her to do as Lantana says.

"But-" Mauya begins.

"I-it's okay," Sansha tells the Waterbender. "I'll do it."

"No," Lantana says, all of the voices speaking gently. "It must be Mauya."

"Why?" Mauya whimpers.

"I'll show you," Lantana promises.

With quivering legs, Mauya slowly moves toward the bags, picking up one of the remaining canteens and moving back toward Lantana.

"Open it," the Avatar instructs. "And let the water cover your hands."

Confused by the instructions, Mauya nevertheless obeys, bending the water from her canteen and surrounding her hands with it.

"Now, place your hands on mine," Lantana instructs.

Reluctantly, Mauya does as she's told. A strange glow seems to surround her hands for a moment, and Lantana lets out a sigh, moving her hands around.

This, it's kind of annoying actually.

Throwing dick kicking encounters is fine. But both so far have been 'unavoidable encounter, you cannot run, you cannot hide, there are enough high DC checks that you are fucked regardless so enjoy avatar mode saving everyone and making the past X amount of time spent on this worthless'.

"Wait, I thought Lieren broke your wrists," you tell Lantana.

"He did, but Mauya here possesses a very special gift," Lantana explains, looking toward you. "Some Waterbenders possess the ability to heal the injuries of themselves and others. Mauya is one such bender."

"I'm a healer?" Mauya asks, staring down at her hands in shock.

Lantana nods. "Yes, and you seem to possess much natural talent at it."

"Okay, why do you sound so strange?" you ask the girl.

"What you just witnessed is called the "Avatar State"," Lantana explains. "As you know, the Avatar is the same spirit reincarnated time and again. In situations of great danger, the Avatar can channel the power and knowledge of his or her previous incarnations."

"That'a amazing!" Sansha declares. "Why didn't you do that from the beginning?"

"One cannot simply trigger the Avatar State," Lantana explains. "And, it comes with great danger. If the Avatar dies in the Avatar State, the cycle of reincarnation will be broken, and the Avatar will no longer exist."

"Why can't Lantana ever seem to remember when this happens?" you ask.

"We take control in order to save her life," she explains. "She is unaware of it even happening."

"That's...strange," Sansha comments.

"It is what it must be," Lantana tells her. "The Avatar is necessary to maintain balance, and sometimes, the Avatar's past lives are necessary to maintain its current life."

The glow fades, and Lantana collapses to the ground.

After quickly freeing Pengsong, you rush over to Lantana, gently lifting her up and looking to the others.

"We should pack up camp, and get moving right away," you tell the others.

"Good idea," Mauya agrees as Sansha rushes to start packing.

Tonight's battle nearly cost you your life. But, thanks to Lantana and a bit of luck, you're still alive. Still, the hunter is alive, and if your gut is right, he'll be back.

The team starts moving as soon as it can.

With Lantana still unconscious, the five of you continue Northward, heading toward the mountains, where hopefully, you can find help reaching the air temple, or at least lose your pursuer in the new terrain.

Sansha rides on the back of Pengsong, making sure the unconscious Lantana doesn't fall off as your group continues its journey. Everyone is quiet, with Sansha seeming angry, and Mauya staring down at her own hands as if they're the most fascinating thing in the world.

Pengsong continues trotting forward, clearly quite agitated, but quite happy to be leaving the powerful Earthbender and his pet behind.

You reach over to pet the great beast, who leans his head into your hand, seemingly appreciating the gesture. If only everyone was so easy to trip up. Looking up onto the Elephant Mandrill's back, you see Sansha continuing to scowl.

"What's eating you?" you finally question.

"That guy," she answers at once. "He picked us all apart like we were nothing. We didn't even put up a fight."

"Lantana still beat him," Mauya says, being the optimist for a change.

"Sure, when she had the power of every other Avatar who's ever lived," Sansha counters. "If it wasn't for that, the three of us would be dead."

"Yeah, it's pretty scary," you're forced to admit. "I don't like it, either."

"Well then, what can we do about it?" Sansha demands.

You weigh the options in your head. Fighting Lieren in a head-on battle seems out of the question, and you doubt he's the type to let his guard down. He somehow managed to track the team down once,so running probably won't work.

"The only thing we can do is get stronger," you decide.

"Get stronger," Sansha repeats. "Sure, maybe you and Lantana. But I'm not a bender, what am I supposed to do?"

"Fight better," Mauya suggests.

The warrior glares down at the Waterbender, who doesn't look back at her.

"Maybe you should learn to fight at all," Sansha suggests. "What were you even doing while Lieren was throwing us around like ragdolls?"

"I only had enough water for one good attack," Mauya protests. "I needed to make it count."

"Right, that three second distraction was perfect," Sansha counters.

"That's still one more hit than you landed," Mauya tells her, her tone growing more angry.

Now is not the time for the two of them to be starting on this again, and you tell them as much, yelling at them to stop it before it escalates into a major fight.

Both girls glare daggers at you, but that at least means their anger is no longer focused on each other. That should make it easier for you to diffuse the situation.

"Look, we were all fighting for our lives, and she was standing back watching," Sansha tells you.

"And I was still just as useful in that fight as she was," Mauya counters.

Hoping to not only stop them from going at each other's throats again, but also keep this particular argument from coming up again, u make suggestions for each of the girls. For Mauya, you suggest that she work on her healing abilities, as they could be invaluable given the danger you're all in. For Sansha, you advise practicing ways of fighting benders, even offering to include her in your training with Lantana.

Mauya seems to like your idea, and promises to work hard at her healing abilities. Sansha also agrees to join you in training in the future. The situation seems to have been dealt with.

The journey continues, and, with the argument ended, you decide to ask the girls what they know about Airbenders.

"Well, they live in these temples high up in the mountains," Mauya tells you. "They don't usually leave them, unless they're travelling to other temples."

"Sometimes they go to villages to trade," Sansha tells her. "My mom told me about a time that an Airbender visited ours. She bought some cloth for something, then left."

"I hear they're mostly really peaceful," Mauya continues. "They don't like fighting, but supposedly, they're really good at it."

>>
>>652773
>>654964
medicinal clay is a well-known folk medicine around the world.
>>
>>655219

Honestly I feel like each of the elements should have an option for healing and they all have ways to do it as well.

Water has their cool glowy hands deal
Earth can have medicinal clay
Air has the breath of life (useful for resuscitation, though admittedly it seems to fall thematically flat when dealing with open wounds)
Fire has the Inner Flame
>>
>>655442
Well, the Shaman in LoK used firebending to sense chi paths and provide limited healing (energy and life, the will to live or something).

Earth could set bones, protect open wounds, help somewhat with internal damage -->Protecting the body to facilitate recovery or first aids.

Air would help with spiritual damage, at most (incenses). Mental illnesses and troubles.
>>
Is it possible for us to bone bend?
