Finally, the world around you comes into focus, like a veil you didn't even know existed has been lifted from your eyes. You are a moderately equipped tech-priest, and the local Adeptus Mechanicus in this station have cleared you and your cybernetics to come aboard the station. Now you must deal with the Adeptus Administratum.

Just what did you come to this station for?

>You came in with the Guard Regiment. [You will be given a (Scarce or lower) basic weapon or a (Average or lower) melee weapon of your choice.

Machinery whirrs, and you can feel the acceleration in your ears as you are whisked away to another section of this entry.

Your implant buzzes into your mind, providing you with information about your speed, apparent height, and even how off the gravity generators are from the Terran Standard (.082 m/^2 off to be exact).

When the veil lifts again, you are in front of another terminal, but in the air you can taste the Holy Promethium in the air, and the smell of blessed oil permeates the air around this armory.

You feel the acceleration again, but only for a moment as you are finally allowed into the Grand Entrance. You can smell dirty bodies and dirty oil, and as you walk forward, the crowd parts around you, wary of this red robed intruder.

You consult your dataslate on directions and are off on your way, looking for the Adeptus Administratum's building in the upper echelons of the City-Station.

Finally, you find yourself there and you venture forth to the waiting terminal, depositing the request for arms into it, and wait for the order to verify itself.

When it concludes, you are invited into the looming Cathedral to gather the servitors and the precious cargo they carry. You manage to find the proper window and present your order forms to the clerk on the other side.

"Your order for arms has been read and accepted. Servitors will soon be present carrying the goods." The clerk says his lines mechanically, as if reading from a pre-determined script. "So, you're with the Guard, huh? What do you think they're picking up here?"

Your voice is a grating monotone from seldom use. "Probably arms, considering the request." The clerk looks shocked for a moment before blinking rapidly a few times.

"Did a Tech-Priest just use a form of humor with me?" He stares at you for a moment, then pinches himself and contorts his hands into the symbol of the God-Emperor. "My Most Holy God-Emperor, a Tech-Priest with a sense of humor. Preserve me."

You blink back at him.

"So, uh, just to scratch an itch, are you a man or a woman under those robes?"

You chuckle, the sound difficult in your throat. Before this past year, the sound of a laugh was as alien to you as the idea of charging into battle with a Chain Axe. Now, after so much time around Guardsmen, you still aren't used to it. You have had to learn how to laugh from observing those around you and modifying it to fit yourself.

"I am a male. Please keep your eyes on mine."

The clerk gives you an odd look. "I swear on everything Holy, you Tech-Priests are the strangest bunch."

As if on a timer, a servitor walks up behind the clerk, and a mechanical voice issues forth from its throat. "ALL GOODS HAVE BEEN RETRIEVED AS ORDERED, ASSIGN DESIGNATION: FOLLOW."

The clerk turns back to you and hands you what looks like a small dataslate. "Press the tab here, and then walk out the way you came in. The servitors will meet you there and will follow you back to your ship. May the Blessings of the Emperor shine upon you, comrade."

You begin your journey out of the Administratum's building, a stream of words that only you and other Tech-Priests can understand.

"A TECH-PRIEST WITH A SENSE OF HUMOR? HOW OBTUSE CAN YOU BE? HOW HARD IS IT TO UNDERSTAND F(FX)*DX=G(X) AND TO FIND THE HUMOR IN Y=X{2\LN(X)-2C}? MUST BE A MEATBAG THING."

You wind your way back to the ship, only having to use the servitor guards assigned to you twice as gangers attempt to pull cargo-bearing servitors out of the procession.

You see more and more Imperial Guard uniforms, until you are a speck of red in a sea of green. You locate the Quartermaster's section and quickly retrieve the small dataslate gicen to you by the clerk.

"Here are the arms, as requested by the Colonel. This dataslate appears to have control of them."

The gruff, portly man looks you up and down. "Any troubles while out in the city, cogboy?"

"Yes, some gangers tried to take one of the servitors away, but the Omnissiah sees us through the folly's of filching fleshbags."

The Quartermaster raises an eyebrow and grunts. "So it goes, cogboy. I believe you are dismissed from your duties from the day now, and I would like to offer you a small job helping me and mine sort through our inventory. I could be convinced to 'lose' an item or two if you were so inclined. Aside from that, I hear that some of the Regiment's vehicles were having some difficulty with... something or another. "Now, you shouldn't need to worry about any Grots anymore, but if you see any, just go ahead and kill them using that Chain Axe of yours. Now then, here we are."

You work diligently until the end of your shift, and then promptly clock out and take yourself back to the Quartermaster.

"I've done what is assigned to me, Quartermaster."

The Quartermaster grunts and shakes his head, as if he was asleep with his eyes open. "So you have cogboy, and now I'll let you forget something in the inventory."

He stands up and walks around a corner you hadn't noticed before, and when you follow him, you see something that looks similar to the markets you walked through earlier today. He leads you to a smaller room off to the side, and tells you to pick one item.

So should one of our goals be too make a tower shield with multiple shield generators? Our other weapon being a long handled chain axe with built in ranged weapon?
>>
>>693311
I always see tech priests with long-handled chainaxes the size of a staff or poleaxe. I'd like to our guy with a much shorter chainaxe more easily used one-handed.

I reckon a pretty awesome goal would be to become a techpriest of war - big tower shield with either a shield generator or a shock field (alla Arbites suppression shields) in one hand, chainaxe in the other cleaving - cleaving and bashing our way through the foe, outfitted in as heavy armour as we can get our oily mitts on and an MIU lasgun (or flamer) firing over the top of our shield

As if guided by an unseen force, you gravitate towards the large pistol whose handle pokes out of the pile.

You take it in your hand, and gingerly, pull it out of the large mess of weapons and armor. The mound shifts, and you know you have made the right choice.

The weight, feel and balance of the weapon all feel right in your hand. You know you have made the right choice.

The Quartermaster speaks up from behind you. "That right there is a good one. Been with the regiment longer than I have, and shows no sign of stopping anytime soon."
He pauses, carefully tracing the lines of the weapon with his eyes. "If you were any other member of this regiment, I would tell you to take care of it as if it was your child. You being who you are, I don't see the need of having to say that. Don't make me regret it."

He then turns his eyes to you, and you feel as if your very soul is being squeezed.

>"As you command."

"It is my duty. She could not have found better hands and her spirit will be well taken care of."

The Quartermaster's eyes lighten for a moment, before quickly fading back to a piercing gaze. "In that case, may it serve you well, Tech-Priest."

He marches toward you, before he apparently changes his mind and makes a quick detour to grab the holster. Then he goes to you, offering the holster to hang on your underclothes. He waits for you to hook it on your belt before sticking his hand out to shake yours.

You reach for his hand, and carefully match the pressure you feel in your extremity. He raises an eyebrow for a moment, but he quickly dismisses it. After an appropriate amount of time, you both break the hold, and continue on your ways. The pistol on your hip is a comforting weight to bear.

As you wander the camp, you wonder as to what to do with yourself now. You could always go back to the garage, to check if the issues there have been resolved yet. Alternatively, you could go around the camp, go back to the Mechanicus' section on the ship to look for work, or go out into the city.

The city
>>
>Go to Mechanicus Cathedral on the ship
>>
You curve out your walking path to lead you to the entrance of the ship, your implant buzzing happily in your head as you use it.

You enter the dark corridors, and feel at ease from the comforting four walls and the harsh buzz of the lights along the floor and on your head.

You walk with purpose, making sharp corners, enjoying the feeling of your pistol slapping up against your thigh. Soon, the walls take on a more refined look, with smudges and unexplained scratches becoming more and more rare as you venture deeper into the area of the ship the other Tech-Priests live and work on the ship.

The stream of servitors has also increased. Some moderately damaged models following the same path as you, while other, refreshed models stream past you on the way to their next assignment.

Eventually you come up to a Door. In front of this Door are two very large and imposing Skitarii armed with Power Halberds. As you approach, they drop their blades, temporarily denying you entrance.

You stand in front of them, the floor underneath you the Symbol of your Life. You reach forward with your hand, a small port opening on your finger. As your hand approaches the floor, a small, barely noticeable, hatch opens up, and you plug yourself in.

Code thunders into your skull, welcoming you back into the fold of your brethren.

Your eyes squeezed shut, you reply in kind to the greeting.

01101001 01110100 00100000 01101001 01110011 00100000 01100111 01101111 01101111 01100100 00100000 01110100 01101111 00100000 01100010 01100101 00100000 01101000 01101111 01101101 01100101

You open your eyes and disconnect from the mainframe, and look up to see the Skitarii have once again opened the pathway into the Cathedral.

You could go and find some work on the appropriate terminal, maybe to work your way towards a new augment.

You could also rest, as this has been a rather busy day for you.

Maybe, however, this wasn't enough for you. You want to test this glorious piece of iron on your hip and you know just the place to do that. The Testing Grounds.

>To a terminal to look for work.
>To your domicile, to rest and recuperate.

And obviously, that's time. Final vote came down to be:
>To the Testing Grounds 5/6

>To a terminal to look for work. 1/6
>>
You cock your head, listening to an entirely different rhythm to be found in what you have been calling home for the past year.

The thrash, the gunshot, the crunch and slash of glorious combat between personal servitors, and the occasional Tech-Priest.

That place that you thought was so repugnant at first, that soon turned into a grudging respect after your first time in combat, and over the course of the campaign, you found yourself going there more and more.

The Testing Grounds.

Why were you so enthralled with them now?

>I imagined the faces of our foes onto the blank faces in the Arena.

>Something about the sheer thrill in the combat.

>I longed to be better in arms than anyone else eventually, and where else to learn safely?

As I was in more and more firefights, I began to see patterns repeat themselves. Younger, brasher men getting killed and why the old 'leathernecks' were surviving more and more. The reason soon became clear.

Experience. They existed for the moments when they were pitted against our foes. The fight was everything to them.

And I knew what had to be done. I must be the most skilled combatant anywhere on the field. I want to cut down our foes in vast swathes, and not take anything from them.

+1???

So I came here, to these hallowed grounds, to get up close and watch these titans of battle clash again and again, changing and improving with each fight.

I knew I must be better than anyone in these halls with me, but I also knew that the battlefield was a lethal place. Here? Everything in my body could be replaced with Holy Cybernetics. I knew that this is where I would eventually become and then surpass, these titans.

And so I watched, and today, I would fight.

What though? A puny servitor? Or one of the larger, better models?

Or maybe even another Tech-Priest.

You find your way to the man? Machine? in charge. He looks you up and down, taking in everything you are and judging how you would rate in combat.

You hope he doesn't find you wanting, as he stays silent.

"I wish to perform." You say to him, your voice flat, not wanting to reveal your emotions yet.

"What do you want to be your fellows in combat?" The reply comes immediately after your exclamation.

"Two of those over there, and two of these." You gesture to the relevant servitors, sizing them up with your eyes again as you pick which ones to fight with.

"And do you want to place any bets?"

>Yes, I'd like to bet my Axe. You'll get an upgrade to your axe if you win.

>Yes, I'd like to bet my Hand Cannon. You'll get to choose between an upgrade or a cybernetic upgrade/addition if you win.

>Yes, I'd like to bet my free time. You'll receive Thrones and a cybernetic upgrade/addition if you win.

You pat the pistol on your hip. "I'll bet this."

A mechadendrite rises into your vision, and carefully takes the pistol from where it lies. A moment later, it is returned to you, a small engraving having been etched onto the barrel.

"Don't hold it back from us, or that mark will name you Liar and Thief. Upon completion of the match, your pistol will be collected again, and the mark will be removed, one way or another."

You nod once and move away from the bookie, walking towards the entrance for fighters.

As you go, the crowd before you parts like water, and you can feel the eyes of those around you digging into your back, waiting to see what you will have in store for them.

Upon entering the small stall before the ring, a servo skull floats in with you. You look at it for a moment, and then notice the camera in its eyes are sweeping up and down your body.

Someone has taken a special interest in you.

The door opens and the ring is open to you. Across the way, two mechanical hulks lumber out of their respective door, and two smaller bodies squeeze past them, the weapons strapped to their body flashing in the light.
