Far off, nestled in an otherwise small Japanese town lies the Dark Gate Academy. An institution of tremendous size, the Academy holds a long kept secret. Unknown to the outside world, this unseemly town is home to a tear in our reality. A gate between our world and a bizarre dimension known as the Darkworld. The inhabitants of this hellish world breach this gate and attempt to flood into our reality and spread throughout the world on a regular basis. However, the Dark Gate Academy is home to students of truly extraordinary abilities. The ability to sense the presence of these evil Darkworld creatures, and defeat them in combat, sending them back through the gate.

They cannot close the rift between our world and the Darkworld, but the students and staff of Dark Gate Academy have dedicated their lives to using their amazing powers to hold back the darkness that plagues our world, even if it costs them their lives. They have risen up to the challenge and in secret have become great heroic defenders of the world as we know it.

For many years, Dark Gate Academy has held back the forces of the Darkworld, kept this unspeakable evil contained within their walls. But a dark cloud approaches, and times are about to change. A new chapter in the tale of Dark Gate Academy is about to begin.

The jagged rumbling of the train carriage does nothing to settle your nerves. The train hurtles down the tracks towards the city of Kingudoro, but your mind is racing so fast that it's already there.

The government body that funds the school of Dark Gate Academy have decided that after recent events regarding the Darkworld breaking out into your own that the academy has failed at it's intended purpose. Now, it's apparently up to them to step in and take a more hands-on approach with the running of the school. Before you know it, you're being shipped off on a mission after they received word of some demonic force posing a potential threat towards the city of Kingudoro.

Kingudoro... also known as The King's Road, the city is a booming industrial zone, known mostly as being the home of the Shooting Star mega-corporation, a massive company that dabbles in electronics, auto-mobiles, and military-grade weapons the world over... Kingudoro also just so happens to be where you grew up.

Kiriko is sitting right next to you, her hands clenched up into balls resting on her lap, her shoulders hunched over and her head hung low. It's unusual to see her this tense. Usually she's the one pulling you out of your cynical spirals.

“So...” Io mutters, sitting in the carriage opposite you, trying hard to break the tension. “You're from Kingudoro, huh? You know, I did always figure you two were fellow city-slickers.”

“You don't have to come along,” you mutter. “I told you already, you can just get off at the next stop and go back to the academy.”

“And I already told you that I'm here to stay,” Io smiles warmly. “It's not a request Kaz. I'm not asking your permission.”

“The mission was explicitly one brought forth to the Darkworld Investigation Group,” you explain. “You're not a member. You're going to get in trouble with the higher-ups when we get back.”

“Then consider this me signing up as a member,” Io laughs. “Besides, I'm not afraid of some suits telling me off. It's not like I'm the only non-member here anyway. Last I checked, Gado wasn't an official member. Neither is our detective friend. And don't get me started on that agent girl...”

“Don't forget me!” Alice pops up from under the carriage table, looking around under there for a candy bar she dropped.

“Exactly!” Io chuckles. “You want to talk about me? Imagine the fit those government guys are going to throw when they realise one of their two super special demon hosts managed to sneak out on them!”

“I don't approve of Alice joining either,” you mutter.

“I'm fine with it...” Kiriko replies in an uncharacteristically low tone. “With Takeshi being held back at the academy for his... job evaluation... we should have as many helping hands as possible, you know? Especially when this is...”

Io sighs, looking at the two of you hanging your heads low. “It's going to be fine, guys... I promise. Whatever threat there is, I know you can kick it's butt.”

“I hope so...” you sigh, as you stand up and head into the next carriage. Sitting inside is the very cramped group of Risa, Tami, Sae, Kuin, Gado and Anri. Kuin is sitting on Gado's knee to make room, and Anri is being bunched up uncomfortable close to him as well. This group seems to be having a much more relaxed conversation, asking Anri a series of questions.

“So, why did you pretend to be a guy in the first place?” Risa asks.

“Well...” Anri sighs. “When Kazuma first encountered me, he assumed I was male based on my stance and my clothing. I like keeping my identity as private as possible, so I decided to play along with his mistake. The less he knew about me, the better.”

“So fond of keeping your secrets, yet you have no problem with snooping into other people's pasts,” Gado mumbles.

“Someone sounds mad,” Tami giggles.

“Someone is mad,” Gado replies.

Anri's eyes glance down with a guilty look, as Sae decides to ask the all-important question. “So when you decided to spill the beans, you just up and flashed the guys?! What the hell where you thinking?!”

“I forgot I wasn't wearing a bra...” Anri blushes.

“How do you forget that?!” Risa laughs.

“Guard dog, how were they?” Sae asks Gado. “What size are we talkin' here?”

Anri's face turns a deeper red as Gado shakes his head. “Can't say. Haven't seen them.”

“What?!” Kuin exclaims. “That's just disgraceful. Are you telling me you don't have the decency to show yourself to the most loyal knight the world has ever known. As your benevolent dictator, I order you to flash Gado this instant!”

“Please, no...” Anri mutters, blushing like crazy.

“It's fine,” Gado says, calming Kuin down. “I don't need to see them.”

“Are you sure?” Kuin asks with curiosity. “Whatever. The tracks are getting bumpy, can you bounce me on your knee?”

“What are you, six?” Sae raises an eyebrow.

“Silence! It's fun!” Kuin protests with a mighty huff.

You shake your head as you check out the next carriage over, holding the very silent trio of Reiji, Hoshi and Akuro. Hoshi hasn't stopped crying since they got on the train, and Reiji has no idea what to say to her to get her to stop. From what you've gathered, the Shooting Star company is owned by Hoshi's father, and with it being the most likely target for a demon attack, it's no wonder the girl is a nervous wreck. Akuro meanwhile is sitting with her arms and legs crossed, huffing silently to herself.

“Something up?” you ask.

“Stupid goddamn superiors...” she mumbles to herself.

You smirk. “Sounds like your bosses are giving you trouble.”

“Yeah, they are...” Akuro mutters. “You're just a kid, Akuro! It doesn't matter that you're the most capable among us! Since you've got the gift, you should become a student here! You're a perfect fit for Class 1!”

Akuro continues to perform an exaggerated impression of her superiors, until you interrupt. “What, so you're sticking around? You're now a member of our class, huh?”

“Officially, I'm the agency's representative among the student body,” Akuro explains. “But that's just a made-up position that doesn't make any sense. The truth is they don't take me seriously because of my age, and just want to send me to school like I'm just some average kid.”

>Well, this is your chance to prove them wrong, isn't it?
>Dark Gate is not filled with average kids.

"Yeah, yeah..." Akuro mutters. "You're all a bunch of special cases, I know. It's just not the kind of special that I want to be... no offence."

"I figured you'd be happy to be spending more time with your brother," you remark.

"Raiden?" Akuro asks. "My older brother's even more of a weirdo now than he was when we were growing up. Sure, he's got that cute thing following him around, but he's all moody and hung up on some dead girl. Raiden was never the happiest or most social kid on the planet... but looking at him in his current state is just depressing. I'd rather I hadn't met him again if I knew that's what he was like now. Especially after finding out what he did..."

"What did he do?" you ask.

Reiji adjust his glasses. "Months back, he took Ryoji hostage and tried to kill him. It seems that the boy is trying to make up for that action, but something that horrific is difficult to forgive."

"Can you forgive him?" you ask.

"I kidnapped Ryoji myself on behalf of the order," Reiji explains. "So I can't really judge Raiden's actions to begin with. I'm no better."

"I-I think y-you're better..." Hoshi sniffles, her face buried in her hands. Reiji sighs, his hand hovering over her back, afraid to make actual contact.

"Well, let's just say my bosses aren't going to be as forgiven as Raiden's classmates are," Akuro explains. "He'll be lucky if he can even stick around in that academy. But enough of that... Kingudoro is your home, isn't it?"

"Yes," you reply.

Akuro nods. "I see... the mission where you met me, that was in the town I grew up in. How coincidental that the next time we set off, it's towards your birthplace."

"I wasn't born in Kingudoro," you reply.

Akuro raises an eyebrow. "You weren't? But on our files, it says-"

"Your files are wrong," you explain. "I grew up in that city. I lived there my entire life, but I wasn't born there. No, I was born in Dark Gate Academy. My mother was there when her water broke, and she found herself having to give birth to me in a bed in the nurse's office."

"Interesting..." Akuro nods. "Guess that couldn't have helped your obsession with that place."

"It's not an obsession," you maintain. "It's just my home. That academy is where I belong. I was born there, and I'll probably die there."

"Not if you screw up this mission, you won't. So... don't screw up."

You return to your own carriage and wait it out until the train finally comes to a stop at Kingudoro station. This city... it stinks of sweat and smoke. You always forget the smell until you come back to it, and then you're used to it within a day. If that isn't familiarity, you don't know what is.

"Now, I'm sure those of you who live here are eager to meet with your families," Akuro explains. "But that wouldn't be following the mission guidelines, so don't even think about paying your mom or pop a visit, got it?"

"Understood..." Kiriko sighs. You're not too bothered by that rule. You're not jumping at the chance to visit your mother.

"Hoshi, you may have a chance to meet your dad and brother, but that's only because we'll be investigating Shooting Star. Your family's company have ties with the government, and could do with a warning."

"R-right..." Hoshi mumbles. "I... I'll try to k-keep it professional."

"While we're doing that, the rest of you check into the King's Rest hotel," Akuro explains, handing you slips of paper. "I've already booked your rooms for the evening. Get settled in quickly, then move out in your search for the demon presence."

As Akuro hands you the papers, you notice that there's a bunch of rooms to choose from. It'll only be one night or so, but it's still a decision that's important to your ability to get a good night's sleep.

>Room with Kiriko & Mayu

You've roomed with Kiriko plenty of times before growing up, so you're perfectly comfortable staying with her. Besides, with the two of you back home, you feel like you could use each-other's support. Mayu you're less comfortable sharing a room with, but she's become a good friend over time, and she's usually quiet, so she would be a good choice as well.

"Everyone ready?" you ask.

"Aww, you're not rooming with me and Alice?" Io giggles. "Too bad, we're going to have a lot of fun! If you ever want to join in, all you have to do is knock!"

"No partying," Akuro mutters, putting on her serious face. "Just check yourselves in, unpack your bags, maybe get a five minute nap in, then get to work."

"You can't give orders to me!" Kuin waddles up to Akuro and pokes her in the belly. "I'm a dictator."

"You're a child with a cape," Akuro retorts. "I don't have time for this. Hoshi, Reiji, come on."

As Akuro marches off, Kuin rushes over to her loyal guard. "Gadoooooo!" she cries, hugging into him.

Gado places his hand atop Kuin's head, rustling her hair. "It's okay. Don't let the awful girl upset you."

"She's terrible..." Anri mumbles to herself, causing Gado to look over.

"You're one to talk," Gado replies.

Anri hangs her head low and mutters an apology so quiet that Gado doesn't hear it, as the group makes their way to the King's Rest hotel. You remember passing this place every day on your way to school when you were younger, though you never stayed the night there. You pick up the familiar and mouth-watering smell of their dinner being served as you approach the entrance. You enter, get checked in at the counter, and grab an elevator up to the 8th floor. You step into your room, numbered 803, and find to your dismay that this room contains not three beds, but two. A single and a double.

"Well, looks like the girls are rooming together," you mutter. "And I'll take the single bed."

"Sounds good!" Kiriko claps her hands together, as you begin to sense a little more of her usual energy coming back. It seems being back in the city has reinvigorated her spirits somewhat. "You two unpack, I need to take a quick shower!"

"What? You're hogging the shower already?" you ask. "Oh, you always do this!"

Kiriko laughs and sticks out her tongue. "Too bad! I called it, little bro!"

You smile and Kiriko laughs as she rushes into the bathroom. You silently hope that the smile can stay on your faces by the time this mission is complete. You sit on the edge of the bed and let out a sigh.

"Are you alright, Kazuma?" Mayu asks. "I understand you might be distressed."

"I'll be fine," you mutter.

"I see..." Mayu nods, sitting onto the bed next to you. She shift the weight in the mattress slightly, and with how sunken in your body is, you have to make a concentrated effort not to lean on her. "I must admit, that is relieving. As you know, I'm not the best at... comforting. Perhaps I could give you a pat on the back... if you're under particular duress, I may even be willing to... hug you."

"Really?" you ask.

"Probably not," Mayu admits. "But I would try."

"You don't have to try to comfort me," you reply.

"I know..." Mayu mutters. "But... I want to. As my friend, I'd like to be there for you, Kazuma."

You crack a small smile as you look over to her. "Thanks, Mayu."

"You're welcome... though I must admit that I wish a favour of you," Mayu sighs.

"What is it?"

"Kazuma... I do not wish to share a bed with Kiriko. After what happened at the festival, my unrequited confession... it would simply be too painful to be that close to her at the current moment. I wish for you to amend this."

>Fine, I'll sleep beside you.

Mayu's eyes widen as she considers the possibility. "That... that can't be right..."

"You said you didn't want to sleep beside Kiriko," you explain. "I'm the only other person you could sleep beside then."

"Oh..." Mayu mutters, placing a finger to her chin. "I suppose you're correct, Kazuma. In that case... I suppose there's no choice."

You nod and smile, but Mayu shakes her head. "Understand this, Kazuma. You are not to touch me while we rest for the night. You are to sleep with your back facing mine at all times, and you should keep movement to a minimum, lest we accidentally make physical contact."

"Right," you sigh. "I understand."

"I apologise for the strict rules, but it's what you need in order to keep your rampant perversion in check."

"My rampant...?" you begin to protest, but then you figure there's no point arguing it. Mayu will always be convinced that you're some sexual deviant no matter what you do. You wonder if this has anything to do with the apparent grudge she has against your father, but you decide that matter is best left alone for now.

Before long, Kiriko steps out of the bathroom wearing a white towel, causing Mayu to blush profusely. "K-Kiriko... Kazuma is present in the room."

"So?" Kiriko laughs, holding the towel up to her chest. "We grew up together, we've changed in the same room before. Besides, Kaz knows to just look away at times like this."

Mayu looks over to you and you shrug. Kiriko lets out another laugh. "Come on, Mayu! Kaz is as harmless as a fly! You shouldn't be uncomfortable changing in front of him either!"

"I am," Mayu replies bluntly.

"Then you don't have to," you sigh. "Get changed in the bathroom."

Mayu grabs some clothes and rushes into the bathroom, as you turn your back to Kiriko's changing into something to wear. "So... are you as terrified as I am?" Kiriko asks.

"Yes," you reply. "I saw what happened to that farm town. I don't want the same thing to happen here."

"Are... are you going to visit your mom?" Kiriko hesitates to ask.

"We're not allowed."

"When has that ever stopped you?" Kiriko smirks. "I'm hoping to visit my folks while we're here. They could use a couple more flowers, you know? I don't think anyone's been leaving any since I started school. You can turn around now, by the way."

You turn around to see Kiriko back in her usual get-up, her hands on her hips. "So... we're sneaking out of here and doing something, right? Akuro's going to be investigating that company for a while, much longer than she'd have us believe."

"We need to be on the look-out for demon activity," you explain.

"And we can't keep an eye out while doing other stuff?" Kiriko laughs. "Come on! You, me and Mayu can be our own search team, and we can enjoy ourselves while we do it! It'll be fun! I want fun!"

You sigh. There's no reasoning with Kiriko, is there?

>Let's visit your parents.

"Really?" Kiriko smiles.

"Yeah," you reply. "I'm not denying you your chance to see them."

Mayu soon steps out of the bathroom, looking rather cute in a nice sweater and sporting a pair of glasses.

"Wow..." you mutter. "Hang on, since when did you need glasses?"

"I do not require them," Mayu explains. "They are in fact part of my disguise."

"Disguise?" you ask. "What disguise? Who are you trying to disguise yourself from?"

"From..." Mayu begins, then stops. "Hmm... now that you bring it to my attention, none of these demons should know my appearance to begin with. A disguise is completely unnecessary."

Mayu blushes in mild embarrassment, as Kiriko laughs it off. "Well, come on Mayu! We're going to visit my mom and pop!"

"I don't understand," Mayu mutters. "Shouldn't we wait here?"

"We'll be on the look-out for demons on our way," you explain. "Akuro already gave us a run-down of the known ones. There's that black haired Yami guy, the tattooed dude, Ukato with the eye-patch, and the blonde happy one, Nishi."

"You mustn't forget Miyoko," Mayu adds. "Akio Naito of class 2 came across her on his journey. If we are to believe the words of Nishi and Ukato during their skirmish with Ryoji Shida, then she may be the leader of this group."

You nod. Seems Mayu has studied the report Akuro gave much more than you. You remember her reading it the entire train journey.

The three of you step out of the hotel and begin to wander the streets you know all too well. You note that Mayu looks pretty lost and somewhat amazed by her surroundings. "Not from the city, I take it?"

"No," Mayu answers. "In fact, I've never bared witness to a city in my life."

"You haven't?" Kiriko gasps. "Oh, there is so much stuff you need to check out! We'll have to show you it all while you're here! This place is amazing!"

"Does that smell ever go away?" Mayu asks.

"No, but you get used to it!"

Kiriko stops by a flower stand and buys a bouquet. The owner of the stand recognises her and has a brief chat catching up. Kiriko explains that she's attending a high-school on the other side of the country, which is why she hasn't been around much anymore. The transaction complete, you all make your way to the nearest cemetery, as Kiriko places the bouquet in front of a shared gravesite... the large headstone reads "Here lies Minato and Kotone Maita, bound in life as they were in death."

"Hey mom, hey pops," Kiriko smiles. "Sorry I haven't got the chance to visit lately. School and everything has kept me pretty busy, even during the summer. It's been crazy."

"Kiriko..." Mayu mutters, a look of worry on her face. "I had no idea..."

Kiriko smiles. "It's okay, Mayu. It was a long time ago. Huh..." Kiriko notices another living flower placed by the grave. "I set this here ages ago... I wonder who's been watering it. Whoever it was, it's real nice of them! Oh, I forgot to mention! Mom, dad, I have superpowers now! How cool is that?"

You smile as you place a hand on Kiriko's shoulder. "It's pretty cool."

"I know, right?" Kiriko laughs. "Yeah, Kaz is fine too! I'm still looking after this big baby. Guess what? He actually had his first kiss! He's growing up, all right! Still no girlfriend, though!"

Embarrassed, you smile. However, your attention is caught by something else... someone else.

"Kiriko..." you mutter. "I don't want to cut this reunion short, but... we have eyes on a target."

"Aww man, what?" Kiriko whines. "Which one is it?"

"The tattooed guy," you explain, as you stare at him standing by the cemetery gate. Good thing pretty much no-one is around, because this could get ugly. "By the looks of things, he must have been spying on us."

"Dangit," Kiriko sighs. "Okay, let's get him. Then I can chat with my parents some more."

If only it were that easy. As you march forward, the tattooed boy becomes very skittish, pulling up his sleeve and revealing the ink on his arm spreading out of his body. He did this before to escape the first time you met, but this time he creates three small goblin likes creatures made of ink that he sets upon the three of you. You hold out your hands and summon your weapons, a neat enchantment cast by Hoshi on the group earlier, as you prepare to make short work of the creatures. You won't let this minor distraction allow the target to get away again.

Kazuma: 71 + 12
Mayu: 93 + 7
Kiriko: 82 + 1

You rush to take on the ink goblins, prepared to take them out as quickly as possible so that the tattooed boy can't get away. You ready you Katana and draw them in, as the rush towards you. The creatures don't seem too intelligent, as they give you a good opening to swing your Katana wide, cleaving straight through one of the creatures, which explodes into a burst of ink, splattering across a couple of gravestones, and slicing part of another.

The third goblin leaps towards you, ready to attack, when Mayu steps in for the assist, driving her katana through the creture, causing it to explode just as the previous one did. With that taken care of, only one creature is left, which Kiriko quickly disposes of with a well placed throwing dagger that finishes it off after you wounded it previously. All in all, the goblins proved to be little more than a minor distraction. Still, even a distraction that short gave the tattooed boy a great head start in running off.

He's still in your sights, so you pursue him, Kiriko speeding ahead by making use of her teleporting ability to shoot ten feet ahead seconds at a time. You worry though, as Kiriko seems to look more and more exhausted the more she does it. It takes a lot out of her, and she doesn't seem to have the sense to hold back on using that ability.

You continue to chase the boy down, but he's fast, incredibly so. You would expect this kind of speed from someone with the powers of a demon, but you're still hot on his trail. Hopefully, you can keep up as he begins to cut through alleyways and climb up buildings onto their rooftops with ease.

You climb up onto the rooftops to follow the tattooed boy, continuing to chase him down. He jumps from roof to roof, and so do you, but you don't seem to be closing the gap between the two of you at all. You press forward with all your might, but soon you find yourself... slowing down, and not by your own accord either. Soon, you legs begin to feel so heavy that you can't press on any further, and that's when you look down to see what's going on. Ink. Bubbling beneath you and wrapped around your legs, the summoned ink from the boy is pinning you down. You look around to see the same fate befalling Kiriko and Mayu as well. You grimace and clench you fist in frustration, fighting against the ink beneath you, as the tattooed boy jump from a rooftop and out of your sight for good. After a minute or so, the ink clears up, and you fall to your knees, punching the ground beneath you.

"Dammit, he got away..." you mutter.

"It's okay!" Kiriko reassures you. "Now that we know his crew is here, we can properly track them out. We'll cross paths with him again soon enough, trust me!"

"I feel we made a mistake," Mayu adds. "We should have waited with the others. Then we could have chased him as a group."

"Yeah, I get that now," you sigh. "But it's too little, too late."

Kiriko places a hand on your shoulder as you rise to your feet again. "Come on, we need to get back to the hotel."

"Don't you want to talk to your parents some more?" you ask.

"We can do that later," Kiriko sighs. "Right now, we have to report back to Akuro... and boy, is she going to be pissed."

The three of you make your way back to the hotel, where Akuro is present, and Kiriko was right. She sure is pissed off.

"You three buffoons decided to run off on your own?!" She snaps. "Nice one! Now you let one of the perps get away! You couldn't sit tight for five minutes, could you?!"

"Don't chastise them," Mayu mentions, standing in front of the group and placing a hand to her chest. "This outing was my idea. I merely roped the other two into this. They are blameless."

"Mayu, you can't just take the fall for-"

"Yes, I can."

Akuro shrugs. "How noble. Too bad I don't believe you at all. This was Kazuma's idea, wasn't it?"

"Mine, actually..." Kiriko sighs. "And look, we didn't screw up too bad. We discovered the presence of the demon threat, didn't we? This isn't our last chance to catch them!"

Akuro crosses her arms and lets out a sigh. "You're right... sorry, I'm just really freakin' tense right now. Shooting Star are on alert, but there's only so much a bunch on non-awakened humans can do. They need us... so here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna split into two groups. The first will patrol the Shooting Star building, and the other will be on the hunt for our tattooed friend... that second group will be led by you, Kazuma. Hopefully you can make up for your earlier screw-up."

"Okay," you nod. "Who's joining my team?"

"Well, that's up to you, isn't it?" Akuro shrugs. "You know your class better than I do."

"It's your class too now," you smirk.

"Don't remind me."

"Hey, why am I the only original club member left out?!" Sae snaps.

"Because I don't think you're suited for a mission to track down a demon," you explain. "But if a demon comes running up to the door of the Shooting Star building, you'll be useful with your guns blazing."

"I want to see the other demons!" Alice smiles, raising her hand.

"Too risky," you explain. "I don't want them catching you. Io, you can keep an eye on Alice, right?"

"On my honour as your friend and her roommate, of course I can!" Io snaps her fingers. "Good luck out there, Kaz. I'm rooting for you."

"Surprised you want me along," Akuro mutters. "Figured you'd think I was going to cramp your style."

"You're an agent, we need someone with your expertise to come along," you explain. "Same reason Anri is coming."

"Don't put me and that kid in the same league," Akuro mutters.

"You're a kid too..." Anri mumbles nervously, still intimidated by the presence of the real government agent.

"Okay, does that mean we're ready to go?" Risa asks.

"Yep, let's head out," you reply.

Your group of seven begin to patrol the streets of Kingudoro, as you examine your necklace.

"Something bothering you, Kazuma?" Mayu asks, walking by your side. "The chain I purchased for you isn't uncomfortable, is it?"

"It's fine," you reply. "I'm just waiting for us to get closer to... something," you sigh. "The stone isn't glowing. Usually, it lights up when we're near demons, but it hasn't at all today. It's annoying, I just want it to... a-ha! Here we are!"

Speak of the devil, the stone begins to glow around your neck and pulls you forward, pointing down a nearby alleyway in town. "Guys! Looks like I'm picking up on something!"

"Sweet!" Kiriko pumps her fist as the rest of the group begin to follow you as you are lead down the alleyway, the stone constantly tugging at your neck.

As you step down the alleyway, however, you feel a change shift over you. All the colours begin to go dim, and the walls of the buildings don't seem to be the right colour. You know that feeling too... it's that feeling you always get when you cross that line, from your world into the Darkworld.

"Everyone else feel that?" Risa mutters. "What just happened?"

"If I were to hazard a guess," Anri pauses. "I would say that we seem to have step into a pocket portal between the worlds. What opened it, I cannot say."

"Probably one of our targets," Akuro sighs. "If they lead us into a Darkworld trap, be on your guard. If we want to escape, we'll need to find and kill one of those... guardians? Sorry, I'm new to all of this."

"Indeed," Anri nods. "Defeat the area guardian, and we'll be granted access back into our own reality."

"Okay... so where is it supposed to be?" Akuro mutters. "This place looks near identical to the city we were just in."

"We'll have to look around," Anri explains. "There don't seem to be any threats at the moment, but be on your guard."

"You know, you do sound pretty smart for an amateur," Akuro remarks.

"Thank you," Anri bows, humbled by the compliment.

Time to look around then. You know Anri's better than you at the whole investigation thing, so you stick by her side as she begins to search the area, hoping to find some clue as to what to do next.

You begin to search through the various darkened alleyways by Anri's side, hoping to find some kind of clue. One thing you didn't notice when you first stepped through the portal but is now clear as day... the streets are now empty. It's so quiet, when second ago it was a bustling city. It's creepy, but also tells you something... the entire city isn't taking part of this incursion, only your group. It's both relieving to know that now civilians are currently in danger, but also confusing. That means that whoever made this portal contained it to a single small alleyway that you passed through. That's unheard of, being able to concentrate the portal between worlds to such a small area.

Anri is diligently searching the area, but you can tell that she's not on top of her game. Something is weighing on her mind. "Something wrong?" you ask.

"Hmm?" Anri mumbles, breaking free from her stare. "What do you mean?"

"All day you've seemed intimidated by Akuro," you reply.

"Well, she is a proper government agent, despite her age..." Anri mutters. "I'm just a kid playing dress-up."

You shake your head. "You're plenty capable, Anri. And if it's any consolation, I like having you around a lot better than Akuro."

"Thank you," Anri bows. "Still... that's not all that's weighing on my mind."

"What?" you ask. "Don't tell me you're bent out of shape over Gado being angry?"

"I am."

"Why?" you ask. "Gado's a grumpy guy. You shouldn't worry about it."

"It's not that..." Anri mutters. "I feel I've given him the wrong impression. Due to his past... which I'm not at liberty to share with you, I found it appropriate that I should keep him under some level of suspicion in this murder case. However, he is far from my prime suspect, as monitoring him has led me to believe that the good-hearted man I see take care of Kuin is genuine and that Gado has changed his ways."

"Then tell him that," you reply.

Anri shakes her head. "It doesn't matter. His anger stems from me investigating his past in the first place. I feel he's a good man, and believe him to be innocent, which is why his hatred of me is bothering."

"It'll all work itself out in the end," you reply. "Now, we're letting ourselves get distracted, let's look for-WHOA!"

Just as you speak, a creature leaps out from the shadows, slashing at you. You narrowly avoid it, but see that the ghoulish creature is accompanied by a handful of friends. Five, at the very least. You've separated yourself from the rest of the group, so they can't intervene just yet... you and Anri will have to make the first move without back-up against these creatures of the Darkworld.

You ready your Katana a move up close to the ghouls, slicing with a strong swing at the one closest to you with the hope of keeping the enemies focused on you while Anri is able to keep a distance and pick them off with her gun. Slashing at the one nearest to you, you leave a cut up along it's chest, damaging it, but not quite being able to put it down.

Anri meanwhile reaches a safe distance and readies her pistol. "Stand back, Kazuma!" she calls out as she raises the pistol high. You step aside and let her take the shot, the bullet piercing the skull of the ghoul you slashed, finishing it off. It falls back and dissolves into a pile of goo.

The others are bound to have heard that gunshot and the sound of Anri calling out, and they should be here within a matter of seconds. However, you'll still have to defend yourself against the ghouls until then, the remaining four of which are beginning to surround you, ready to slash and bite at you with all of their might. Hold off on this attack, and back-up should arrive in no time. You ready your katana as the ghouls come charging towards you, all ready to hit.

The first ghoul comes at you, swiping with it's ghastly hand curled into a claw, but you're able to push it back with the brunt of your sword. Unfortunately, you miss the ghoul coming right from behind you, sinking it's teeth into your shoulder. You cry out in pain, before knocking that ghoul away with a punch to the face. The third creature swipes at you, leaving a small cut along your arm. It's painful, but like the bite-mark left by the previous ghoul, it shouldn't have left you with too much lasting damage. Just a few stings to wear you down, while the final ghoul comes running for you. You see your chance to escape, leaping up and using the head of the ghoul as a bouncing point to launch yourself forward, freeing yourself from being circled in by the hideous creatures, rolling forward along the ground as you find yourself in a safe position.

"Kaz?" you hear Kiriko's voice call out. You turn around, to see the rest of your party rushing towards you with their own weapons drawn. "Guess you didn't find any clues."

"Nah, just stumbled across some demons to kill," you smirk. "Though we could use a little hand."

Kiriko nods as she readies her daggers. "Of course, little bro can't do it all by himself!"

You come rushing in with your sword once more, confident in the back-up you've just received, and swing at the ghoul at the front of the pack. You slice at it's chest, but once again you see that the creature fails to go down for good. Luckily as it continues to rush by you, it is blasted away with a shotgun blast from Risa.

"I've got you covered, Kaz!" she calls out. You nod, and you see that she isn't the only one who's helping take these creatures down. Mayu also rushes in, and slices down the ghoul next to you with authority. Kiriko meanwhile uses her teleportation to get behind the ghouls, and flanks one of them with a quick stab that brings it to it's knees, allowing for Tami to safely snipe it from a distance.

The last Ghoul begins to run off, and Anri raises her gun to fire on it. She lets loose, but unfortunately misses the creature as it moves. Akuro is quick to pick up the slack, readying her gun and taking the ghoul down with a shot to the head.

"That's how it's done, amateur," Akuro mutters to a flustered looking Anri. "Now that we're done luring monsters to our presence, I think it's time we started to look for something to get us out of here."

Anri sighs, and you feel the need to give her a pat on the back. "Don't let it get to you. You did good."

"Kazuma..." Anri mumbles, looking defeated. "I'm not a detective."

"Yes you are," you reply with a smile. "You don't need some badge to show that you're a detective. You just need the brains and the determination, and you have both of those in spades. Trust me Anri, you're a detective through and through."

"I'm really not..." Anri mumbles. "Kazuma, the truth is-"

"Hey, I found something!" Tami calls out, as you all follow her voice. You find her hunkered down, examining what appear to be tracks. "Whatever left these must be pretty big."

"You sound excited."

"I am excited!" Tami glows with enthusiasm. "Just think of the size of this thing!"

The group begins to follow the tracks, and you soon find some sheets of paper littering the streets on the footprints' path. You pick one up and read it.

"What does it say?" Risa asks.

"It's a wanted notice," you reply. "For a Yami Takano..."

"Yami?" Akuro asks. "That's the name of one of the demons, isn't it? Let me see that."

Akuro examines the picture on the wanted poster. "Hmm... he fits the description given. But what does this mean?"

"Maybe he created this," you remark. "From what I've been told, Alice created her own version of the Darkworld. Maybe this section of the Darkworld is molded around Yami's thoughts and memories now that he's possessed."

"Maybe..." Akuro mutters. "All it tells us for sure is that this Yami was a dangerous criminal even before the demon possession. Not a surprise, but it means we really should watch out for him."

"Yeah, you really should!" a voice calls out. You look around, but there's no-one to be seen.

"Enjoying my trap?" the voice calls out. "I worked real hard on it. I'm not attacking anywhere in Kingudoro just yet, I just wanted to lead a few of you on a wild goose chase while I ravaged another defenceless village!"

"Damn you!" Risa shouts out. "You're a real piece of trash, you know that?"

"Oh, you've wounded me!" Yami's voice calls out. "Anyway, have fun fighting the guardian I left behind. This one's a real doozy! I'm going to kill some defenceless villagers right now. Enjoy!"

"Damn it..." you grimace, as you hear the ground rumble around you.

Out from the shadows burst the most hideous winged creature you've ever seen. The body is so large and so deformed, you're not even sure the thing can fly as it comes barrelling down the street towards the group.

"Ugh, what is that thing?" Risa asks.

"It's... it's... it's exactly as big as I thought!" Tami yells with excitement, readying her bow.

"Last time, Yami apparently created a grotesque monster made from body parts," Akuro explains. "This seems to be his speciality."

Whatever the hell this disgusting monster is, you're going to have to kill it if you want to get out of here.

As the battle with the creature begins, Anri and Akuro are the first to open fire, aiming for the creature's face, hoping to blind it. Akuro fires and fires, but doesn't manage to make a dent, while Anri holds her pistol high, takes a deep breath, and fires. The bullet whizzes through the air, and lands right in the Harpy's eye, shutting it closed and causing it to let out a roar of pain.

"I believe that's how it's actually done," Anri mutters, a small smirk developing on her face.

You and Mayu look at each-other, then nod. You both draw your katanas and charge towards the harpy, attacking it directly. You leap up and slash the body of the creature, and Mayu does the same, leaving large gashes along it's already deformed body. That should keep it's attention on you for a while. Kiriko joins you in attacking the creature head on, teleporting back and forth between the creature's legs, slashing away, trying to cripple it. She leaves some nasty cuts and seems to have slowed the beast down somewhat.

Risa meanwhile provides covering fire for the melee attackers, blasting away with her shotgun, a spatter of blood bursting out with every blast from her shotgun hitting the creature. Tami does much of the same, aiming at the wings of the creature with her bow. She fires her arrows through the both wings, clipping them. If the creature was able to lift it's body of the ground before, it certainly can't now.

The Harpy looks around, and to your shock, seems to say a few words in a horribly distorted woman's voice.

"WHOOOOOOO'S... A GOOOOOOD... BOOOOOOOY..."

The creature sounds in pain as it speaks, it's face in agony. What freaks you out is that you're certain that this isn't due to your attacks on it... no, that constant pain seems to be the Harpy's default state. Whoever could make a creature like this is the true monster... Yami's disgusting.

The creature places it's hands on its stomach hole, and pulls it wide, something glowing from within. It leaps back with what little strength is left in it's legs, as you see some sort of blast preparing to emerge from the creature's stomach targeting the entire party.

The beam bursts from the creature's stomach with tremendous force, cutting a path in the earth in it's wake. Even though you're at the forefront of the beam, you're able to react in time to move out of the way, even having the wherewithal to grab Mayu by the wrist and pull her to safety as well. Kiriko is able to teleport out of the blasts path, but you see that he beam widens the further it shoots out, giving your ranged attackers much less room to move. Akuro is able to find safety behind a corner, but the other three aren't so lucky and are caught up in the blast. Risa, Tami and Anri are all hit and find themselves being both burned and knocked back by the creature's attack.

You can see the smoke rising from the three's bodies as the slowly pick themselves up off the ground, each of them clearly hurt. They can still fight by the looks of things, but it may be better for them if they stood back out of danger for the next while, lest they get hurt again, and next time could be even worse.

"Are you guys okay?" Kiriko cries out.

"I'll survive," Risa grimacing, struggling to hold her guns. "Let's just take this thing down."

"Thank you for helping me, Kazuma..." Mayu whispers next to you. "I greatly appreciate your assistance."

"No problem," you mutter. "Now to kill this thing before it does anything that crazy again."

"Do any of you need medical attention?" Akuro asks.

"Couldn't hurt," Risa replies sardonically.

"Okay... I can only patch one of you up at a time, so the rest of you be patient... and maybe get out of the damage zone."

"Tami, get back and let Akuro patch you up!" You call out.

"What?!" Tami protests. "But I want to hunt to harpy!"

"Too bad!" you fire back. "If you try to keep going in that state, you won't stand a chance! Get moving!"

"But I-"

"Shut up, and come on!" Akuro yells, grabbing Tami by the wrist and pulling her to a safe are to administer first aid.

"You two can still go, right?" you ask Risa and Anri.

"Yeah, of course," Risa replies. "If we keep up the assault, this thing should be going down in no time."

"Indeed..." Anri nods. "I can prove myself."

You rush at the Harpy with your katana and slice at one of it's legs in order to get it's attention. You slice with incredible force, though, and you find yourself almost taking the entire leg off, parts of the skin flying as you hack away at it.

"NOOOO... ICE-CREEEEEEEAM... BEFOOOOOORE... BEEEEEEEEED..."

You have no idea what the creature is roaring about, but it disturbs you all the same, you just want it to be done with.

Kiriko continues to whittle away at the beast with her throwing daggers in hand, chipping away at the creature with every hit. Mayu attacks the creature's other leg, hoping to do the same damage as you did, but the Harpy manages to shift it's weight at the last second, and Mayu steadily misses her target.

"Disgraceful..." Mayu mutters, chastising herself.

Risa and Anri pick up the slack however, as Risa continues to provide covering fire against the creature, while your ace detective continues to fire upon the creatures face, hitting it in the eyes once more as it lets out a distorted cry of pain.

Soon, the creatures cries begin to form more words.

"ROOOOOOOOOOOCK... AAAAAAA... BYEEEEEEEE... BAAAAAAAAABY..."

A strange, low toned, horribly distorted version of a classic lullaby, the drone making it sound like the creatures vocal chords are being processed through a wood-chipper. And yet... it make you feel very... sleepy...

No! You're so close now, the creature is clearly on its last legs! But... it's been a while since you slept... you feel like you're back at the hotel... lying back in that double bed all by yourself, sinking in under the covers...

Yes, it feels so good to finally get some sleep and... wait, no. No. You're not in bed. You're standing on your own two feet, clutching your sword as tight as you can, facing down a dirty disgusting demon. No amount of hypnotic drones could pull you away from that. Even in your dreams, you live to kill demons. This one can't put you to sleep no matter how hard it tries, but there are some who it can.

"Oh dear..." Mayu mumbles. "I feel very... light-headed. Come now Kiriko, let's go to bed..."

"To bed?" Kiriko asks. "What are you... w-well, that is very tempting..." Kiriko shakes her head, just managing to break herself from the spell's effect. "No! I can't sleep! There's a monster in front of me! Mayu!"

As Mayu curls into a ball on the floor and even places her thumb in her mouth, Risa sits down and lies back as well.

"Yeah, I'm just going to..." Risa mutters, but her sentence is cut off by her own yawning. "K-kill the demon... in five more minutes..."

"This is ridiculous," Anri shakes her head. "How are you all failing to remain composed?"

"It's a powerful spell," you mutter. "It almost got me there."

"Me too," Kiriko yawns. "I just about managed to avoid it. Good to see you're so composed."

"I never listened to lullaby's to help me sleep as a child," Anri explains. "I listened to Beethoven."

"Of course you did..." you mutter. "Hey Akuro, Tami!"

"Yeah?" Tami calls back.

"Since you're patched up, you want to get back here? We could use the extra pair of hands to finish this thing off!"

"Of course!" Tami exclaims. "I'd love to take this Harpy down for good!"

It seemed the sleeping song was a last ditch attempt from the Harpy to subdue you guys and save itself. With the way it's swaying back and forth, you can tell that it'll only take a single strike, maybe two to finish it off. With five of you attacking, killing it should be no problem.

Kiriko works on teleporting around the Harpy in an attempt to take it's attention away from the rest of you while you try to lay a final blow on it, but it's clear that the sleeping song is still working it's effects on the ninja, her movements much more slow and sluggish than usual. This lack of pace allows for the Harpy to easily swat her aside like she was a fly, sending her a few feet before landing right onto her behind.

Anri and Akuro begin to open fire on the creature, aiming for its face, but neither one of them are managing to get a clear shot at it. Pretty damn frustrating.

"Don't worry, I've got this!" Tami laughs, as she readies her bow and arrow. She takes a deep breath, steadying her aim and letting lose on the creature, as an arrow pierces its way into the leg of the Harpy. The monster falls forward, as Tami readies another arrow, piercing its other leg, as the Harpy is fully pinned down.

"There you go!" Tami smiles. "Now you just need to finish it off."

You nod, gripping your sword tight. You rush towards the monster with your katana, leaping up to land on the large head of the creature. You hold your sword high above it's head, and moments before driving it in, you hear the creature cry out again.

"WHOOOOOOO... MYYYYYYYY... SPEEEEEEEEECIAAAAAAAAL... LIIIIIIITLE... BOOOOOOOY...YOOOOOOOU AAAAAAAAARE... YAAAAAAAAAAMIIIIIIIII..."

With a look of pity on your face, you drive the sword into the top of the demons' head. It lets out a horrific cry of pain before falling forward, slowly dissolving into black goo as it dies.

"Interesting..." Anri places a finger to her chin.

"What is?" Akuro asks. "What was that thing?"

"Didn't you hear what it said?" Anri explains. "If this section of the Darkworld was formed in the mind of Yami, then it seems this creature was representative of his mother... or at least some other parental figure. Clearly not a healthy view."

"You said it," you shake your head. "I've never felt so sorry for a Darkworld monster before..."

You make you way over to the sleeping Mayu and shake her awake.

"Yes, Kazuma?" she mumbles as her eyes slowly drift open.

"Wake up," you reply. "The fight is over."

"The... fight?" Mayu mutters. "Oh yes... was I sleeping?"

"Yeah."

"Oh dear... I didn't... suck my thumb, did I?"

"No, you didn't."

"Good..." Mayu sighs. "That would be embarrassing... I do not suck my thumb."

"I believe you."

With Mayu up, you make your way over to Risa. Giving her a little shake, you're shocked as she springs up and throws her arms around you.

"No, please don't leave me!" Risa cries out, holding you tight.

"Uh, Risa?" you mutter. "What the hell are you talking about?"

Risa eyes widen as she pulls away from you and realises where she is. "Nothing, Kaz... bad dream."

Everything begins to melt away, and soon the sky is returned to normal, the colour in the world has returned, and your group find themselves back at the alley you went through.

With that finished, you make your way to the Shooting Star building, where the others are standing like guards. As she sees you, Io rushes up to the group.

"Look at you! You look like you've just taken a beating!"

"We came out okay," you reply. "And we come with information."

"What is it?" Io asks, as she begins to pat down parts of your hair and generally fussing over you.

"The demons aren't attacking the city," Akuro explains. "It was all a decoy so that Yami could raze a small village without interruption... unfortunately, that also means it's too late to stop him. Wherever he attacked, the people there are all likely dead already."

"S-so that means...?" Hoshi mumbles.

"It means we rest in the hotel, then tomorrow we grab a train back to the academy to report our... failed mission," Akuro sighs with resignation. "Damn it all... I'm going to need a long hot shower after all this crap..."

You all return to the hotel, feeling incredibly dejected as you fall onto your double bed. Kiriko collapses on her single bed and immediately begins to snooze, as Mayu sits down and pats your back in an attempt to be reassuring. "Are you alright, Kazuma?"

>I'll be fine. This is just a setback.

"I agree," Mayu replies. "You cannot allow something like this to crush your spirits."

You sit up on the edge of the bed and let out a sigh. "I know, I know... it's just deflating. We didn't accomplish anything tonight. In fact, Yami just sent us in the wrong direction while he terrorised yet another town. I can'r let all this death, all this destruction keep going. We're going to get him, I know we can do it... but right now, this just sucks."

"I understand..." Mayu mutters. "Kazuma... if you ever feel low again, I just want you to know... I'm your friend, and I... I... I'll always be here for you."

She may have struggled to say it, but you can't help but grin hearing the most supportive words that Mayu has ever said to you. You can't help but laugh thinking of how much of a grudge she's held against you for so long... and finally giving you a chance, it seems the two of you can become the closest of friends.

"Thank you, Mayu..." you smile, and stand up. "Anyway, let's sleep together."

Mayu's eyes widen as she stands up and out of reflex, slaps you in the face. "Ow!" you cry out. "Mayu, it was a joke! Because we're sharing the same bed tonight. Remember?"

Mayu continues to stare at you.

"Yeah, I guess it was in poor taste."

"Making light of your rampant perversion does nothing to mitigate it, Kazuma."

"Okay..." you chuckle. "Lesson learned, I guess."

Mayu grabs a pair of full-body yellow pajamas as she stares at you hesitantly. "Umm... please change in the bathroom. I'm uncomfortable with us changing in the same room as each-other."

You nod, and take your pajamas into the bathroom, where you quickly change. You then wait about a couple of minutes in order to make sure that you don't walk back into the room while Mayu's pulling down her pants or something. When the appropriate amount of time has passed, you open the door back into the bedroom, where you see Mayu in her pajamas, leaning over a sleeping Kiriko who has just been tucked into bed, and planting a small kiss on her forehead. She looks over at you and blushes, before climbing under the blankets on the right side of the bed. You climb under as well, following the guideline Mayu set for you earlier, back-to-back, no physical contact.

Your attempts to get over to sleep are interrupted by the faint, but noticeable sounds of... weeping? Yes... for whatever reason, right next to you in bed, Mayu is sobbing as quietly as she possibly can. You should check on her, do something to comfort her... but wouldn't she get mad if you did something like that?

"Mayu, what's wrong?" you whisper.

"Nothing," Mayu whispers back.

You turn your head, and you can see that Mayu is indeed crying, while holding a picture of what appears to be a younger seeming version of herself, happily smiling with some older man... judging by his looks, the man must be her father. Does she do this every night?

>Do nothing.

For many people, a comforting hug from a friend would be what they need to cheer them up... but Mayu's very different from most people. As tempted as you are to do something, to hug her, to even just place a hand on her arm, you know that it would only make her more upset. Instead, you decide to respect her wishes and just do nothing, no contact at all.

"Kazuma..." Mayu sniffles from behind you. "May I ask you a question?"

"Shoot."

"Do... do you hate your father?"

"No," you answer. "I love my dad."

"Oh..." Mayu mutters, her voice blubbering due to her tears. "I hate your father."

"Why?"

"B-because... b-because... because..." Mayu mumbles, and you notice that she's struggling to get the words out.

"It's okay..." you whisper. "You can tell me some other time."

"Okay..."

"Mayu... if you ever feel low again, I just want you to know I'm your friend, and I'll always be here for you."

There's a long silence between the two of you, until Mayu's voice eventually rings out from behind you.

"Thank you, Kazuma... anyway, let's sleep."

You smile, and close your eyes. You drift off into a nice peaceful sleep, with thoughts of you and your friends doing better on the next mission.

Hours later, you are awoken by the sound of knocking at the door. It's still the early hours of the morning, so everyone is still asleep, as you feel something strange against your back. The feeling of... hot breath. You look back, and see that in her slumber Mayu has unconsciously broken her own guidelines, rolling over to your side and pressing herself delicately against you. You chuckle quietly to yourself, as you hear the knocking once more. You sigh as you pick yourself out of bed, wondering who it could be.

It's Io, probably wanting to get an early rise and chat... or maybe it's Kuin, dragging Gado along to give you ridiculous commands... maybe Alice saw a bug from her balcony and wants to go catch it or something... maybe Sae wants to drag someone with her while she eats the hotel's entire breakfast menu... maybe Anri is coming by to flash you again... okay, that last one is less likely, but still.

You answer the door, and none of your friends stand on the other side. In fact, there stands a short blonde girl in a green hoodie.

"Hi! I'm Nishi!" the girl waves cheerfully, and your eyes widen as you recognise the name, and this very description.

"The demon?" you ask, ready to summon your sword.

"Yep!" she laughs. "You should come with us!"

"There's no chance in hell of that happening," you mutter angrily.

Nishi places her hands to her mouth, as her eyes widen with a guilty look. "Oh... oh no, I'm so sorry!" She cries.

"Sorry for what?" you ask.

"Oh, I'm so stupid..." Nishi mutters, lightly hitting her own head. "I made you think this was a choice! Sorry!"

Before you have time to react, you feel something hard hit you in the back of your head, and everything going black.

When you wake up, you find yourself in what appears to be a rather comfortable lounge chair, in a well-furnished living room. Across from you, next to the unlit fireplace, sits a girl who looks about your age, in a purple dress and holding a small glass of red wine in her hand.

"Ah good, you're awake," she smiles, before outstretching her hand for a handshake you don't accept. "Reasonable..." she sighs as she pulls her hand away. "Don't worry, your head is fine. No lasting damage... still, I'm very sorry we had to do that to you."

"Where the hell am I?" you ask.

"Tsk tsk," the girl wags her finger. "I think you'll find it's only proper that you ask who I am first, then come the next questions, but to save you the time and effort of trying again, I'll simply answer both... I am Miyoko, and this is my home."

"Did you just take me?" you ask.

"Oh, heavens no!" Miyoko laughs. "We don't even have any use for you. Simply your stone... which we have. Thank you."

Your eyes widen. "Dammit! Give it back!"

"It's rude to interrupt," Miyoko sighs. "Now... Kazuma, isn't it? We didn't need to bring you here, we only brought you and a handful of your allies so that your friend Alice can feel safe while she's here. We're not the kind for outright kidnapping, so we decided to take most of you with us. You see... we are not your enemies."

"What a load of crap," you mutter. "Yami destroyed villages, killed innocents!"

"And he's our enemy too," Miyoko explains. "Fascinating what you can discover when you simply give the other side a chance to speak, doesn't it?"

"I don't understand..." you mutter. "If you're not with him, what do you want my stone for? Why do you want Alice?"

"Your power gem is in safe hands with us," Miyoko explains cheerfully. "As for Alice... we're here to help her."

"How?"

"A magnificent breakthrough," Miyoko explains. "The same breakthrough that make us as powerful as we are. You see Kazuma... we know how to kill an Archdemon... without killing the host. Marvellous, isn't it?"

Yeah fuck you you're not an enemy you just fucking attacked us go fuck yourself.
>>
>>705840
Oh shit. So much oh shit. One for expecting Maro with a cockblock and another for it being Nishi, then one more for that last line.

>>705857
True, they really can't blame us for thinking poorly of them when they've attacked us at every opportunity.

>Player Question
What's your thoughts on Miyoko and her crew? Are they genuine? Will they be a helping force, or a hindering one?

>Bonus Player Question
What's Mayu's deal? And where will her relationship with Kazuma go from here?
>>
>>705887
>PQ
They can go fuck themselves
>BPQ
The reveal that kaz's dad killed her dad will come a moment before he betrays us, but I dont think the two of them will get together.
>>
>>705887
Thanks for running Booker.

>PQ
They'll probably be a bit of both, they'll either do some pretty shady shit to hold back the Darkworld or at least try and control what they can.

>Bonus PQ
Yeah, Kankuro definitely had something to do with Mayu's dad's death. It'll probably end up being a case of "I could save you, but then there'd be a slight chance of more people dying." or something similar where Kankuro "could" have saved him but decided not to.
>>
>>705887
Thanks for running Booker. Feels like the thread went by pretty damn fast, probably since we just got out of Endless Festival.

>PQ
They're probably good guys that don't know how to be good guys. This isn't some shounen where we can magically talk things out with our fists, they should have used words instead. Alternatively they're just a neutral force that has different ideas to both sides and is trying to play us by getting us on their side.

>BPQ
Friendzoned! I will try my utmost to make sure we put a heavy emphasis on friend every time we talk from now on.
>>
>>705887
>PQ
Suspicious and more than a little lax in self control, even if they're genuine. And yes.
>BPQ
I like Mayu. I'm not sure if she and Kaz will get together, but they'll have to clear the air eventually. Sins of the father, etc.
>>
Another thought on what they could be up to. The method of killing the archdemon being something like shoving it inside the power gem. Then there's some big plot twist where Kaz's dad became an archdemon and is trying to do crazy shit through Kaz.
>>
>>705887
>Player Question
Perhaps they are not the destroy village type of evil but I doubt they don´t have some ulterior motive. Also lets see how stron will Miyoko be on the tuna bowl
>Bonus Player Question
Long lost half sister... maybe?. I kind of want to ship her with Kaz but can´t betray Goose for now.
>>
>>705887
>PQ
Maybe they're Lawful Evil or even Neutral but I expect we'll be putting them to the sword eventually, even if they end up being of some use beforehand.

>BPQ
I was thinking along the same lines as >>705988 actually in that maybe her and Kaz are related, but she's mad because daddy was never around, or if she is indeed only half sister then because he ditched her and her mum altogether.
>>
>PQ
Fuck them
>BPQ
It's revealed ghost dad did some dirty shit while at the academy and kaz has an existential crisis when his daddy isn't the greatest man ever.
>Anon's question
Who do you think is going to win the kaz bowl? My money's on Io
>>
>>707311
>>Anon's question
Io a shit. Friend zone is what I'm aiming for. Don't have a set match for Kaz yet, but I'll probably end up wanting someone weird like Tami or Risa or Sae.
