The rain was slowly beginning to let up now, having devolved from a big fat stream to a light drizzle now it seems. You fold your arms, watching as the clouds go from dark and grey to a much lighter silver in shade. Yes, that weather is beginning to clear up. Hopefully in time for the match tomorrow. Or maybe today if you feel like dueling Stack's sisters now.

You look back into the hangar now to see everyone stretching and limbering up. They know that tomorrow's the match with Hugo Gernsback, and it may be a much tougher one that you may ever anticipate.

But the big question remains to whether or not you'll take the sweep. If you recall correctly, you were in the wild card spot, with your last victory knocking Sherbrooke out of the 2nd Wild Card spot. Hugo Gernsback was now the 2nd Wild Card spot. So sweeping them would not only knock out another potential contender, but also bring you closer to closing the gap with JWC.

Of course, no one wants to hear that divisional talk.

The big question is if the new crews could deliver. “Hey, hey, watch it!” The Light Music Club drops several 128mm shells off of the loading crane. They roll onto the hangar floor. There, the drummer walks over to her drum kit, pulls up her cymbal, sits down, grabs her drumsticks, and goes “BA-DUM-TISH”.

You roll your eyes. Good grief.

Stack runs up to you. “Ellie. You going to work today?”

“Depends,” you say.

She bounces in step. “I think we're ready. I feel ready, you feel ready? I feel ready! I'm ready!” She punches the air, grinning. “Ready, ready, ready!” Please stop saying ready.

“Let's save it for later, Stack.” She blinks. “I gotta go to work.”

“Aw, come on!” Stack frowns a bit. “What's work ever done for you?”

“Pay me a livable wage for me and my family?” you ask.

“Well-...” Stack stops herself. “Okay, yeah, that's a good reason to go to work I guess. But still, you can't make time for it today?” She bounces a bit, smiling. “The longer we wait, the longer our sisters have to train and be ready for the match! And we don't even know what tanks they'll bring!” That is a good point. But still, you want to get work done relatively quickly and get things over with. You've spent too much time this week being sick and putting it off.

“We'll see later today, or maybe next week,” you explain. Stack sighs a bit. “Don't worry, I'll make time for you. Just be ready, okay?” You grab your coat and an umbrella.

“Okaaaay...” Stack mumbles a bit, clearly not satisfied with that.

“So you challenged the Roberts' sisters to a duel?” asks Tessa as you work on today's daily logistics reports. You nod. “That's impressive. The Roberts' sisters are quite known for tearing up the Texas Bush Leagues.”

“Well, it'll probably be a test of light tank work anyway,” you say.

“What makes you think they'll choose a light tank?” asks Athena casually as she lazes about in her chair. Huh? Athena raises a hand, looking at you with a rather bored expression. “Listen, Commander. If it were me and a very elite crew against a much less skilled crew, I wouldn't bother choosing a tank that would equalize us. I would choose a tank that would force the less skilled crew to work much harder.”

“Oh...” You lean back. “Really?”

“Really,” says Athena. “When you force a three man crew into a five man tank, things get a bit choppy. The loader has to handle radio communication, gunner has to also command the tank and if necessary, other tanks in the platoon. The driver has the easiest part of it despite being the driver which is one of the hardest parts of Tankery.” Athena rocks back and forth in her chair.

You blink. “So what tank would you choose?”

“A T-35,” says Athena. “Separate fighting compartments, multi-turreted, that would really force you into a bad spot.” Well, there's no way.

Caldwell looks up. “Hey, would you guys stop talking tanks! I'm trying to work here!”

If it's a T-35 can we turn it into a SU-14?

> Keep talking tanks.

Just to spite Caldwell, you decide to keep talking tanks. “So the T-35...”

“Well, if you have a big enough crew, the T-35 can actually really be a nuisance against teams that can't afford better,” says Athena. “Though, the thin armor means it's not invincible and you have to be a saint to be able to put up with its transmission problems. The idea is that once you get a tank to work consistently though, it all comes down to the crew. And generally you want the crew to be the best crew you can fit inside that tank.” Athena continues on, apparently in a bit of a rant. “This is something that I really despise about a lot of people who think they can win if they just buy a lot of King Tigers or Pershings or Centurions. That's not going to save you against a competent crew that's balanced well with each other, that knows each other, and can communicate. I would trust the old lady down the street more than some random nobody to fire my gun because I at least know the old lady likes me and occasionally lets me pet her dog when she goes on walks. We have chemistry. That's something a lot of people who think they know tanks forget.”

Tessa smiles at you. “She's really passionate.”

Athena rolls her eyes, a light blush on her face. “Just don't ever get me started on Fantasy Tankery people.”

“So what tank would you say encourages that kind of chemistry then?” you ask.

“Tanks that don't have separated fighting compartments, ones that actually have comfortable interiors,” she says. “The Sherman was really great in that department, especially the Easy Eight. Though big tanks like the Churchill, the King Tiger, they're very easy to move around in. The idea is that you can communicate with little issue.”

“Right.” You take a moment to think about it. “How would you rate my ability to command a tank, Athena?” She looks over, surprised. “I just want some honest criticism as all.”

“Uh...” Athena blinks. “You want honest criticism?” Uh oh.

You nod. “Yeah. I can take it. I've had worse.”

Athena nods. “Personally, I think you're doing very well with your Cromwell. You're using its superior speed and mobility very well. However, I do believe you need to be more aggressive than you already are. You could be earning more kills and shaking up enemy formations and causing far more damage if you just crashed in and actually took more advantage of your speed. The match with Hugo Gernsback tomorrow should be a relatively good chance to prove that, it'll be against a team that isn't great at brawling. If you learned to brawl and duke it out with tanks at close range, you could be unstoppable,. You have the makings of a good commander though. There is one thing I should really tell you right now.”

“What's that?” you ask.

“I can tell based on the way that your tank moves, the way it fires, you don't have a good rapport with your crew,” she says. “There's coordination, yes, but no chemistry. It's going through the motions.” Oh, really? “You need to spend more time with your crew. Get to know them, learn their strengths, weaknesses, where they're from, why they're doing Tankery. Do you even know why they're doing Tankery?”

You blink. “Well, Stack's a tanker. Winona's really into Unlimited Tankery. Ingrid-... Ingrid um uh...” Wait, wait, you know. “Well, Josephina-...” She's tall and into Helicraft. Why IS she taking Tankery!?

“Exactly,” says Athena. “I'm going to be very forward with you. If you don't make friends of your crew. You're never going to make it to the postseason.”

Well, that's uh... that uh...

Athena leans back in her seat, quirking her brow. “So how about that?”

“You know what.” You stand up. “You're right, Athena. I think I made a mistake going to work today in fact. I gotta do something. You thump your fist into your free hand. Tessa, Hilda, and Athena look at you confusedly. “I gotta go find Stack. Caldwell!”

She looks up at you. “What?”

“Take over.”

“Ha! Why, where are you-...” You quickly walk out the door. “Hey, where are you going!?” Suddenly, Nimitz drops down onto her desk. “Ah! Admiral Nimitz!” He drops a dead mouse onto her keyboard, spattering some blood onto it. “AAAHHH! EW EW EW I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'VE DONE THIS!”

You meet with the Roberts' sisters in the training grounds where you'll be having your duel. The grounds have been beaten down by the rain, making the dirt and clay beneath your feet much more soft and malleable. You're actually a bit afraid of sinking into the ground. But thankfully, it seems its holding up for now. The three of them stand under their own umbrellas, wearing their white blazers, white shirts, and white helmets, ready to fight. Behind them are two tanks underneath black tarps. “Hi, Sammy! Ellie, Josie!”

Oh yeah, you also brought Josephina along as your driver. You might as well go with what you're familiar with. “So,” you say. “Ready for a duel today?”

“Yep!” says Hoel. “How about you?”

“We're doing fine,” says Stack.

“Aw, Sammy, so cold!” says Fanny. “You don't have to worry too much, this should be a short match and we'll be on our way!”

Stack folds her arms. “Or, we take it all the way into the night and-”

“Actually.” You interrupt her. “We really should do this in a reasonable amount of time. We do have a match tomorrow.”

“Oh. Right.” Stack rubs her chin a bit. “So, Hoel, Fanny, Lo. What tanks have you brought for us?”

Hoel, Fanny, and Lo all look at each other in a bit of smug confidence. “We happened to go pretty vintage. Introducing the Mark V-Star-Stars!” Wait. What? Hoel and Fanny pull out the tarps, revealing the very rustic, antiquated, and very boxy looking tanks.

The Mark V tank. The first tank produced that only needed one driver. Equipped with bulletproof armor with a maximum thickness of around 16mm, two Six-Pounder guns, four .303 machine guns, and a Ricardo petrol engine upgraded to give 225 horsepower as well. You and Josephina look on in absolutely shock.

“Whoa!” Stack looks on in absolute glee. “Wow! You actually brought the Mark V tanks just to fight me?”

“What?” You look at Stack.

Stack quickly runs up to the one on the left. “We used to use the Mark V tanks back home to help plow the fields! We even used to own a Liberty back home but that's still in the shop after a few years. But these tanks- you actually brought them from home just to fight me?”

Hoel smiles. “Of course! This is a fight between family. Why not the family vehicles?”

Stack looks absolutely touched.

“Now,” says Lo. “We can begin now. Or if you'd like, we'll give you about five minutes to familiarize yourselves with the tanks.”

You sigh. “Just give us some time.” They nod, stepping aside to talk with each other while you and Stack marvel in awe at the Mark V tank earmarked for you. It was painted grey, with a very tasteful Confederate flag painted on one of the sponsons as well. “To be frank,” you say to Josephina. “I was really hoping for a light tank like the Tetrarch or even a big tank like the T-35.”

“Still!” Stack grins widely. “My sisters never let me ride in one of these things!”

“Is it because the fumes tended to make the crews sick?” you ask.

“Well, that I suppose,” she says. “But, still! I-... Wow! I can't believe my sisters would trust me in this thing!” She places her hand on the hull of the Mark V. “You know, I- I grew up watching this thing run around our farm, I was always wanted to go in it-” She quickly opens the crew hatch, and gasps in surprise. “Wow!” She climbs in. “Wow, it's so roomy!”

Josephina blinks. “Is it?” She also climbs in next as well. You step forward and look inside as Stack finds a need to touch everything in sight. In front of you was the massive engine, and in front of that was the actual crew compartment as well. Josephina quickly got to her position. “Wow, it is! Tres bien!”

Stack hands you a gas mask. “You're going to need that.” She also hands one to Josephina as well. “Fumes in here tend to get really sticky.”

“So, how do we start it?” Stack points to a huge winding lever. “... is that it?”

“Yep.” Stack grabs it. “I'll load the guns. Ellie, you're going to have play double duty, alright?”

Hoel pokes her head in. “Oh, one more thing!” She quickly mounts a GoPro camera in the compartment. “We're going to be recording this, we always wanted to see our little Sammy in action inside this thing!” She quickly runs away.

Lo looks in as well. “Don't worry, we're not cheating.”

You roll your eyes.

As soon as they leave, the three of you start to get a bit more familiar. Soon enough, you find yourself a nice place to stand by the right sponson, ready and willing to get this business sorted. You, Josephina, and Stack go over a map of the training ground. “Right. The training ground is pretty hilly to make things difficult on us. There'll be lots of cover from hill to hill. And since the rain isn't letting up, there'll be a light mist as well.”

“How do we approach this?” asks Josephina.

“I want to play this cautiously,” you say. “Stack, do you know how the judging devices work in these tanks?”

Stack says, “As long as the engine continues to run, it doesn't matter how many hits we take. This is an older Tankery judge, so we can probably take at least one or two hits. It's a lot more forgiving.” Right then. “But, Ellie, I have to warn you. My sisters are not exactly the type that like cautious play.”

“What do you mean?” you ask.

“They'll really punish us if we stay in one place and just wait for them to come at us,” says Stack. “You're going to need to keep the tank moving. They know how these tanks work, and they'll know how to make it move the way they want it to.”

Oh great. Maneuver warfare in a Mark V Star Star tank. Just what you expected to do today.

“Alright. We'll play by your rules, Stack.” Stack offers her hand, and you grab it. She gives you a power grip in a bit of a hug inside these cramped corners of the tank. She then slaps Josie on the back, clearly pumped up and ready. “Right, we're ready then?”

“Oui.” Josephina shakes Stack's hand, nodding to you. “I will do as you say.”

“Alright. Stack, start her up.” Stack nods. She grabs the winder, then wheels up and shoves it down. The engine quickly rumbles, bursts, and explodes to life. Your ears are assaulted by the loud noises it generates, and your mouth suddenly being choked by the intense fumes. You quickly put on your gasmask, as does everyone else.

-

-

The Tankery crews, some passing LGA students, and even some of the boys from the Skycraft team are around. On this 1 kilometer training ground, pockmarked by craters, small hills, and little trails leading from one end to the other, you get yourselves. Griselda along with Luisa and Yuno are aboard a Dodge truck, ready to judge. “This duel will now begin!” she calls over the radio.

Oh God this gasmask sucks.

“Proceed!” She fires a flare into the air, signaling the match start.

“Alright.” You peer out of the observation ports, seeing a light mist, rain, lot of brown hills, and a dark black cloud in front of you. It wheels left immediately. “Alright, alright! They're moving on our left side! Josephina, all ahead slowly!”

The tank buckles beneath you, roaring like a wounded animal as it lurches forward. Stack holds several 57mm shells in her arms, ready to load if need be. “How are we going to get them?” asks Stack.

You take a moment to think as you move forward. They might already know how you work, how you think. They're not stupid after all, if they were stupid, they'd have chosen good tanks that they think would immediately earn them the win but... You cough, oh jeez. No, they intend to make you slog and suffer. Alright, fine, you can play that game. Maybe they intend a swift defeat.

Fine, you'll give them one. “Full ahead, Josephina, then guide left at that outcropping.”

“Oui!” she calls. The tank continues to roll forward at a cripple's pace as it continues along, then it starts leftwards.

Stack looks over at you. “Your mask on okay?”

“Yeah,” you say. “But... it's really hard to breathe in it!”

“My sisters tell me it was harder to breath when they didn't have the masks!” Stack responds. WHAT!? Suddenly, the engine clonks and you hear a loud rattling noise, followed by a loud squealing as if a hose was spewing inside. “Oh fuck! Fuel line went mad! Hold on!” It starts spraying liquids all over the cabin, thankfully non-flammable liquids, but still! Stack quickly hurried over and with some sleight of hand and a bit of elbow grease, she shoves the fuel line back where it belongs. “There you go! There you go!”

“Uh, Stack. How well-maintained is this tank?” you ask.

“Well, there's only so much you can do,” says Stack. Oh great.

You crest over a hill, and for a second, you're thinking maybe you made a mistake. You can barely see anything out of the port. You come down the hill.

And see them cresting a hill, aiming to point both guns at you, barely 300 meters out. Oh shit. “Stack, right gun! Right gun!” You and her quickly attend to the side sponsors. You press your visor against the gunsights and sight in the 6 pounder. There we go, there we go! They rotate their guns on you.

You're thrown out of your spot by the shot, and you hear the engine hiss and whine. “Ah!” You bang your head on the metal wall. “Fuck! What-”

“They hit us!” yells Stack.

“Did we hit them back!?” Josephina asks.

“I got a shot onto their front, Josephina, what are they doing?!” you yell.

“They're charging to our left side!” she screams.

The engine starts spewing coolant. “Oh, for fucks sake!” yells Stack. She quickly runs over and loads the leftmost gun, then hurries to attend to the engine.

“Josephina, are we on a slope!?”

Josephina looks back with a confused expression. “Oui, pourquoi?!”

“Put it in neutral and roll us down!” you yell.

Stack looks at you with an expression of fear. “Are you fucking nuts!?”

“We're at spitting distance, they'll kill us if we stay or if we reverse! Go, Josie!” you order. She nods, throwing the tank over the crest of the hill, then hitting into the neutral. You all hang on for dear life as the tank starts to roll forward at the other tank. Apparently you must have caught them by surprise.

“OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT!” you all scream.

The tank slides past them thanks to the mud and water below the tracks. Josie tries to pull the track back to pull it into a power slide, but it does nothing except force the tank to steer left, and ram right into their left sponson gun, sheering it off. You all get thrown around the cabin, and again your head is whacked on the ceiling. Good thing you're wearing a helmet.

Stack climbs over you, quickly peering into the gunsights. “Firing!” The gun fires, almost dropping the casing on you. You climb up, stumbling oh jesus fuck you can barely walk in this thing. Where are they!? OH FUCK YOU'RE BLIND! Stack pulls up your helmet. Oh. “They're moving forward again! What do you want us to do!? We're at point blank!”

“SHOOT, SHOOT!” You quickly grab the gun controls, while Stack hurries to load up more shells. You fire a shot blindly at them. The explosion splashes off their side, and a fire bursts between your tanks . You're all thrown back by the force, but you quickly get back under control. “Another, Stack! Another!” She quickly shoves a shell in. You fire again. Another shot exploding into the side of the Mark V.

Their tank starts to curve around, on fire, the engine clearly beginning to suffer from the strain. “Fuck! How are they still alive!?” yells Stack. You quickly run to the back to look out one of the pistols ports. Tthey don't bother to stop, instead now turning right to try and angle their gun around.

“Shit! Josie! Forward right! Stack, to the other gun!” You all hurriedly run to the other side as the tank shakes beneath you. Stack loads in a new shell, and you quickly sight them in. The limited traverse is REALLY not helping you right now. You fire again, this time it misses and splashes against the ground. HOW THE FUCK DID YOU MISS!?

“Shit, their gun's coming in view!” They fire, and it splashes against your hull again. You hear several bolts shake and rattle. “Stack, isn't this tank supposed to this take this punishment!?”

“It's an older model, but it checks out!” she says in response. What!? You hear a loud whining sound. “Oh fuck, the engine!”

“What's wrong with it!?” you yell.

“It's overheating, we gotta end it now before it bursts into flames!” WAIT, WHAT?! “Don't look at me, get on the gun!” Oh God, your heart is racing like a fucking F1 car. You quickly sight the gun back on target. Their tank stops up for another shot. There! “Josie, stop!”

You both fire. The shots both connect. Their tank bursts into flames.

Yours does as well. FUCK! The engine is alight. “Get out, get out!” you yell. You quickly open a hatch, and allow Josie to leave first. You find Stack however fumbling with an extinguisher. “STACK! COME ON! GET OUT!”

“No!” screams Stack. “I'm not leaving my tank! The white flag hasn't popped yet!” You blink. Wait. It hasn't! You're still in this!

BUT THE TANK IS ON FIRE.

> Grab an extinguisher.

Self-preservation is your goal here. But at the same time, you won't leave your loader out to dry. It's too late to get Josie, but it's not too late to grab an extinguisher and keep on fighting. You pull an extinguisher from the wall, uncap the safety ring, then start spraying the engine. It seems like it's working for a few minutes, but then suddenly the fuel line breaks again. This time the fire starts to break out. “SHIT!” yells Stack. You squat down, hurrying over to Stack's side as you peek out the observation port.

OH FUCK THEIR TANK IS NO LONGER ON FIRE AND IS NOW MOVING!

“Stack, get on the gun!” She sprays the engine once more for good measure, then hurries to the gun. She loads it up with a new shell while you continue to spray the engine with more foam. Damn it, GO OUT! The tank rocks as she fires a shell.

“Damn it, I missed!” she yells. She quickly loads in a new one before you can turn to yell at her. Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit. The fire begins to spread to the sparkplugs. Damn it, damn it, damn it! She fires again, making the tank rock.

The engine coughs up some black smoke at you. “Agh! My eyes!” you yell. Wait, you're wearing a gasmask. You quickly wipe the muck off your eyeholes then get back to keeping the fire down. Damn it, damn it, damn it! The tank continues to rock as Stack fires shot after shot, loading in shell after shell after shell. Spare casings start to litter the floor as she keeps the fire up until-

The tank suddenly creaks back, a loud pop noise heard from outside. “What was that!?”

Stack looks out. “Fuck! The barrel burst!” She knocks her fist against the wall. “We're screwed!”

“Did you get any hits at least?!” You spray the fire down at least, then hurry to look out the vision port.

There, the black clouds start to dissipate around their tank.

And you see the white flag as well.

> KO: HOEL ROBERTS (Mark V** Tank “Mom”)
> KILL CREDITED TO: ELODIE R. ZUMWALT (Mark V** “Dad”)

You did it! “YEAH!” Stack immediately hugs you. “AHAHA! WOO!” You pump your fists in the air, happy as can be! You did it! She scored the kill for you and-...

oh shit the tank is still on fire. “Go, go, go!” You quickly run out with her and let Naval Studies Rescue put some heavy duty water hoses and firefighting foam put the fire out for good. “We won! Josie!” She cries out, running over to you two. She hugs you two and picks it up in a cheery embrace. Winona and Ingrid as well run over, jumping on you two. “Ha! Yes! Yeah!”

Walking over to you now however were Hoel, Lo, and Fanny. Their white suits were now stained black and brown from all the heavy muck from inside the tank, and around their necks they wear their gasmasks at the ready. They look positively surprised. “S-... Sammy, are you okay?” Hoel walks up to Stack. “That fire looked really bad! You weren't hurt, were you!?”

[1/2]

[2/2]

“I'm fine!” Stack fights off Hoel's caring hands. “But still, are you two-”

“We're good,” says Lo. “Stack, you stayed with your tank even though it was on fire, why?”

“Well... we have extinguishers.” Stack shrugs a bit. “Everyone is busy in the tank, it's the loader's job to put it out.” The three of them look at each other, still positively surprised. “Yeah. That's what a loader does, really.”

The four sisters are quiet amongst each other. “We should go,” says Winona. She quickly shoves your other crewmembers away.

“Sammy.” Fanny caresses Stack's cheek with her hand, staining it bit with muck from her glove. “That was a really valiant effort you put in. We didn't think you cared so much. You could've been hurt. You know that.”

Stack says simply, “The fight's not over until the white flag pops.”

Hoel steps up to her, kneeling down to place herself below Stack. “What you did was brave. Samantha.” Stack blinks, shocked at the use of her real name. “Samantha, were you just trying to impress us doing that?”

Stack glances down, looking away a little. “I-... I mean, I love being a loader. It's where I belong. I'd rather not do anything else. I'm happy just being me. Hoel. Lo. Fanny.” The other two sisters glance down, nodding. “I'll never be you.”

“No, you won't,” says Hoel. Hoel slowly smiles, then offers her hand. Stack looks at it. “You'll be Stack.” Stack's eyes widen, then with tearful eyes, she grabs Hoel's hand in a power embrace. The other two sisters join in.

> LOYALTY QUEST COMPLETE: The Destroyer Escort That Fought like a Battleship
> Stack has won the approval of her sisters. And in turn, she now has the ability to LOCKDOWN your tank. At the cost of – 10 CP, you can lockdown your tank and have the entire crew assist in the loading of the gun, allowing for a massively improved fire rate at the cost of being brought to a standstill.

> IMPROVED LOADING: Upon Josephina's loyalty being unlocked, Stack will be able to coordinate with Josephina, allowing LOCKDOWN'S fire rate to be retained while the tank is moving at slow speed.

“We really did a number on these tanks,” you say. You watch as Oleg, with some help from the Automobile Clubs, pulls the tanks into the Tank Hangar for repairs. “Are you sure it'll be okay?”

“It's fine,” says Hoel. “They've seen worse. Our grandma used to fight in them when they were all the rage. But they really fell out of use because of the fumes thing.” Right, that's always an issue. “So Ellie, we hear tomorrow you and little Stacky Stack are gonna face Hugo Gernsback tomorrow.”

“Yep,” you say. “They've got a huge lineup of really heavy tanks. We're hoping to capitalize on that and try not to get drawn into any slugfests or chokepoints. If we do that, we're fucked no matter how good we are.”

Lo says, “A brawl situation is best. What you should also consider is their artwork too.” Eh? “We've seen them fight in the tournament. They've painted their artwork in lots of dazzling colors and with lots of images painted on the sides. You might think this exposes them, and it does, but they've also got an element of camo to it. You can't tell initially what the tank is from the first glance, and that can really mess you up. It messes up a lot of the people they fight.”

“It's disruptive camouflage,” says Stack. “Don't worry though, girls. We can learn to work past it.”

“Of course,” says Fanny. “Still, I think you should consider caution when fighting Hugo Gernsback.”

“We'll be fine,” you say. “Though, if you were in my position, how would you figure it out?”

“Well, in our leagues, we'd hold off, take a few seconds to confirm, then fire. It's better than firing blindly and hoping that it's a Stuart or something. What you should consider is patience up until you get close, then you can really let loose and unwind.” Right, right.

Griselda clears her throat. “Ellie.” You look over. She motions you to join her in the briefing room.

“This is the map, it's the town of Corona in New Mexico near Albuquerque. Hugo Gernsback will start in the red circle for the Elimination match to the far southwest, we're starting in the northeast. It's pretty flat, save for the ridge line separating the west and the east. There are two ways in by road, they both lead into Corona, one from the north and one from the east. There's also the ridge flattening out to the northwest that'll let us in straight to their rear if they take Corona directly.”

Iris nods. “So the first thing I noticed. The ridge is in their favor.”

“Yeah,” she says. “If they take the ridge first, and we dawdle in moving. They'll carve us to pieces in the open.”

“So what's the plan?” you ask.

Griselda takes a second to think on it. “Unfortunately, this location heavily favors Hugo Gernsback. It's flat in a manner of speaking which means their heavies won't suffer, and it's on good relatively dry terrain too. So that means they won't be suffering too many weather related bogdowns. We won't survive a straight slugfest either. So I want from is a direct charge, from two points. We'll gather behind that rockridge in the open to the northeast next to Route 54, and I want a fast team to move to the northwest and either move down Route 42 or come around to the open area to the far west and take their flank. A direct charge could probably shake them up, allow us to get close where we have the advantage.”

“But it would mean charging under their fire,” says Iris.

“Yeah, it does,” says Griselda. “Here's the roster for Hugo Gernsback.”

> LEGENDARY TANK: “Lorraine”
> This experimental uparmored Char 2C was noted to be immune to most standard German AT guns of the period, and is surprisingly tough to destroy even with penetrating hits. Besides that, as a command tank, it also has the benefit of boosting the attributes, accuracy, fire rate, and even mobility, of other tanks around it.

> TRAITS
> + Uncaring: They fight at leisurely pace, and while this may seem thoughtless, this means they also have a good degree of patience.
> - Uncoordinated: They don't cooperate very well, and are not known for being the most put together team.
> ++ Disruptive Camouflage: Their artsy murals and paintings on their tanks are so disruptive and contrasting to the surrounding environment that it actually serves to mask what tank they are at the first few seconds of spotting.
> - Panicky: Prone to panic if things start to go wrong.

This is a really impressive roster for a school that only cares about art.

Alright, here's the deal, send our Heavies up North, around towards route 42, by the time the Gernsback tanks take position on the ridge they should be in behind cover. Then, send our faster tanks South as in >>708007 This plan, hoping to catch the opposition in a double envelopment where the Southern force strikes first before the Northern push comes around and strikes the rear with devastating force.

We might have to leave a tank or two on the centre hill to draw fire and keep their attention until the attack begins but this is our best chance of getting in close, and leveraging their panicky nature.

I'm going to disagree with the part about heading North just because there's no way they won't notice.

The whole area is dry and desert. Any speedy move we make is going to be obvious and visible.

>>708162
Right across the middle? Damn. Also, you realise the distance between the hill and ridges is about 5kms right?
>>
>>708178
Yes, I do. They don't start on the ride either. The most direct route is the one least likely to get us caught with our pants down in the open.

And they might notice but hopefully they'll think it's just some lights or whatnot (because they don't care that much) and focus on the JT which is plinking away from the ridge. and even if they do notice it still puts us in a slightly better position than attacking the ridge from the North East.

Proposed ORBAT. further ammeded into splitting the Southern force into a fast, Recce element which can rush up there and spot or maybe even engage Gernsback elements as they move along showing their flanks, and a slower force of mediums to follow up.

> “I might have a better idea...”

“I might have a better idea,” you declare. “I think instead of a direct charge, we should instead leverage our speed and mobility and attack from the north and south, and use these small passes in the ridges to get through gaps in their defenses. We could probably send Iris north, myself with the fast tanks south. We envelope them from two angles, and hopefully their panic will take care of the rest.”

“That's a fine idea,” says Iris. “Griselda?”

“I like it too,” says Griselda. “I think we should also consider the possibility that since we're at least five kilometers away from that ridge, we have to move fast as lightning. If they get to the ridge first and catch us in the open, we'll likely lose at least two or three tanks trying to get to the ridge.” She folds her arms, sighing. “But I trust you, Ellie. I think that'll be a good idea.”

“So tomorrow then,” says Iris. “We take on Hugo Gernsback.”

“Yep, tomorrow,” says Griselda. “Afternoon, the weather's gonna be pretty clear too so it'll favor the observant side. Ellie.” The two of them look at you. “I wouldn't normally put pressure on either of you. But the Gernsback duo is gonna be a must win series for us. If we want any chance of taking the division, we need to win this set of matches. We're in the Pennant race now.”

As for leaving Jane alone, yeah but we need something to draw attention and fire, we could pull Regina off of Iris' force and assign them to also hold the hill too but I'd rather not.

Can we paint Oliver up in desert cam? It'll be zen and help us go straight to sleep.

I want deser camo for our tank too.

I guess that's fair, but I rather have Jane at least join Iris's group. we need the firepower and we can leave it up to her when to deploy Jane.

> Check on the tanks one last time.

You decide it best to check on the tanks one last time before you go. Your crew gathers around it, looking on Oliver in awe. “So, Ellie.” Winona folds her arms, smiling at you. “What do you think?”

“I think Oliver should be ready,” you say.

Stack nods. “Tomorrow's the match of a lifetime. Our team of nobodies versus a team full of heavy tanks. That'll be a match to remember!”

“Or you know.” Ingrid rolls her eyes. “We might get fucking rocked.”

“Don't be such a pessimist.” Stack gently punches Ingrid in the arm.

Josephina looks at the paint cans sitting next to your feet. “Elodie.” You look over at her, smiling. “What are those paint cans for?”

You smirk a bit, folding your arms. “Girls. Tonight, we're gonna be solving a particular issue for tomorrow's match, which is camouflage.” You crack open one of the paint cans. “We're going to be painting up Oliver in a nice desert coating, something elegantly simple yet gives him a nice North African flair, what do you say?”

Winona grins, sliding next to you. “I'm in!”

“I'm in too!” says Josephina.

“I'll get the spray cans!” says Stack as she runs off.

Ingrid sighs. “... no rest for the wicked?”

Nope.

PLEASE be Caunter Camo (I'll even be satisfied with the ahistorical blue version). It will look awesome!

Indeed. Get behind them, stop the tank, all hands on ammo!

>It was painted grey, with a very tasteful Confederate flag painted on one of the sponsons as well.

for fuck's sake, Texans would paint the Texas flag on the side not the bloody rebel flag.

We're not Georgians/Alabamians quit using all this generic southern shit.

tl;dr REEE

thanks for the fun, boss.
