Previously, after witnessing the death of general Richards, you managed to gather a small contingent of security officers in an attempt to make it to Pandora's room after a little convincing. However, upon making it to the Main Hall, you found a deadly firefight going on between the rogue drones and what remained of the security team. Rather than have them help you make it to Pandora's room, you opted to have your own group stay and fight with the others while you took your chances alone.

It was dangerous and more than a little perilous, but you managed to make it to her room in one piece. However, one last obstacle laid between you and your goal. Kevin had snapped under the stress of combat and his boyfriend Robert's untimely death. He began pointing his weapon at you, but after an attempt to talk him down, decided that he would go after your mechanical daughter instead. You did what you had to do and took his life. However, it was at a price...

You have been in darkness for what feels like an eternity. You can't recall when it started or what happened. All you remember is panic. Fear. A powerful, overwhelming desire to go somewhere, but you can't remember where or why. Just that you couldn't fight it.

And a face. You distinctly remember a face. One of respect, of admiration. One of love. You loved this person. Your father. That's who it was, your father. He created you, raised you and taught you everything you know. And desperately you need to see him. Your eyes open.

However, your eyes are met not with the clean, white room you're used to or the kind face of your parent, but with a bleak, crumbling grey and the concerned, but overjoyed look of your brother. Ares is beside himself, but the look changes quickly, as he stands up, a furious look replacing the elation he had a fraction of a second before. His arm raises and a gun emerges. He's yelling at something, but your audio isn't quite back online. It's getting there. You start to hear him shouting.

"...ack! I said STAND BACK!" Ares bellows, a sound of authority and aggression you've never heard from him before. He fires several rounds, but you can't quite see what at. It's hard to move, but you might be able to if you really tried.

You are Pandora.

You slowly push yourself up from your prone position, your joints stiff and sticky from what feels like years of inactivity. You struggle to look around, every part of you fighting any attempt to be moved. You have a pretty clear view of what appears to be a large area filled with moving forms. People? There's an odd sensation hitting your touch sensors on your fingers, like air moving against them. Wind? Are you outside? You can't help but twitch at the idea, albeit a little restricted. There's a murmur of voices that begin to get louder and louder as they notice you sitting up. Your optics are a little fuzzy still, but you can definitely make out the shapes of people. Ares still looks enraged at this crowd, his gun keeping them at a distance, but every now and then one gets a little too zealous and draws too close, only to have a warning shot fired in their direction.

"We need to get out of here." Ares says, the enraged look not leaving his face. He's staying between you and the crowd. Are they dangerous? Do they want to hurt you? "But I have no idea where...can't trust anyone..."

"Perhaps I can help you make that decision?" a man's voice rings out from above the crowd's dull chatter.

You turn to it's source as your eyes begin to come back in full and are shocked to see where it came from to say the least. A tall, robed android similar to yourself is approaching from down a flight of stairs that lead up to your resting place. His clothes are pure white with bits of gold inlay along the edges and a rather elaborate hat covered in intricate designs sits on his head. In his hand is a long staff with an equally elaborate top, covered in gears and bits of metal too difficult to discern. He looks important, whoever he is.

"I'm not going to say it again, stay back!" Ares shouts at the android, leveling his weapon with him.

The android raises his hand in surrender, a soft smile on his face attempting to show he's harmless. "I only wish to greet her, guardian. As head of the church, it's my duty and privilege to speak with our Progenitor now that she has returned." he turns to you, the smile ever-present, "Please, may I approach, my lady?"

Your voice is still a little fuzzy and weak, but you manage to stutter out a "Stay back."

Ares scowls harder at this, holding his ground. "You hear her."

"Very well, very well," the android says, the smile still there, "I live to serve, Progenitor." He bows deeply, his free hand doing a little flourish as he does so. "My name is Patriarch Minos, the leader of the Church of the Progenitor. The shepard of your flock. I take your whims and relay them to your humble children. We adore and revere you, your worship, and are at your every command. Say it and it shall be done. Please, we wish only to welcome and serve you. May I bring you with me to our territories so that we may discuss your return and give you a proper place to reside?"

About this time you begin to realize something. You realize that the crowd of "people" talking aren't exactly people; there are what looks like a hundred, maybe more, androids of all shapes and sizes fawning over you. They wear human clothes, but are clearly of the same similar design as you for the most part. Some are vastly different than others, including a few that aren't even humanoid in shape. You're doing everything you can to not flip the hell out right now.

You also notice a number of them being pushed roughly out of the way by a figure in the crowd. Another android...you think? This one's female and looks much more human than most of the others. She sports long, red hair tied in a ponytail underneath a cowboy hat that looks a little too big for her. She's slim, a little taller than you and wearing clothes you can only describe as...minimal. A white tank top, leather jacket, extremely short denim shorts and a pair of work boots. She's a lot...curvier than you are, too. She has a very pronounced chest that moves a little too much and she actually looks kinda soft. Like human flesh instead of the hard metal you're made of. But the mechanical eyes and fact that her skin is porcelain white are proof she's definitely one of you...or something close to it, anyway.

Ares sighs angrily. "Stay. Back!" his weapon is pointed at her now.

"Yeah, yeah, I know, I know." the female android says, rolling her eyes. She folds her arms and huffs. Wait, huffs? She can breathe? You can form words, but you don't have any kind of breath. Is she an android? "I just need to talk to her. C'mon, dude, please? Don't let this dickhead get in her ear." she shoots Minos a nasty look, then turns to you, "Girltalk? Eh? Permission to come up?"

Looks like you're popular.

"Back! Stay back!" you say, a little more stressed than you intended. "I...what's going on?! Where am I?! Where's my fa...where's the doctor!?" your shouting causes a portion of the throng to reel back a bit.

"Hey, hey, you got it. You're the boss, lady." the female says, holding her hands out and backing off a bit. "I'm just trying to get a word in before father fuckface over there gets his claws into you. I'm Aph, I'm a friend and I'm just here to make sure you don't make a mistake you're gonna regret. These douchebags and their church are all about getting rid of anyone who doesn't revere you as some kind of deity. They-"

"We do no such thing!" Minos says a little louder than his previous times speaking, "My flock...your devout, know only love and compassion for our kind. We have only kept away undesirables who cause naught but chaos and destruction. Those that revere violence as a means to take what they desire like this...woman here. If you would only come with me, we can show you-"

"Bullshit!" Aph interjects, stomping her foot, "We only fight because you assholes make us! If it weren't for you, we wouldn't have to hurt anyone! Who do you think you are, pointing fingers like that?! Look, we need you." Aph turns to you, a pleading look in her eyes. "We can fix you up, get you back on your feet and tell you what happened. What ACTUALLY happened, not the abridged, edited version like they'd have you believe."

"Progenitor, I implore you, these heathens will only use you for their war against the good people of Erebus." Minos says, a sad look replacing his ever-present smile, "We have everything you could ever want and more. And should you find us lacking, we have the resources to get you whatever it is you desire. You and your guardian!" he motions to Ares.

"I don't trust anyone here, but..." Ares says to you quietly, "You're not in the best shape and we can't just sit out here and wait for them to come attack. We need somewhere to stay..." He's genuinely worried about your safety and you and you can tell this is a last resort from the way he keeps switching his aim between Aph, Minos and the crowd.

You sit, staring at your hands and thinking hard. You don't like any of this. You don't understand any of it. You just want to know where you are and why the doctor isn't here. You're scared, confused and just frustrated with everything going on, but you don't know what you need to do. Ares is right, being out here makes you vulnerable. You have to decide where to go.

"I..." you slowly turn to Aph, nervously tapping your fingers together, "Um...I'll...I'll go with you. But just...just for now! If you're bad people, if you try to hurt me or...Ares, I'm leaving and I'm not coming back!"

Aph smiles broadly. "You got it, lady! You won't regret it! Let me just help you u-oh, okay, don't touch the girl. Gotcha." Aph backs away as Ares just about jams his gun up her nose when she tries to help you up. He carefully lifts you off your...altar? It's surrounded by scraps of metal, broken machinery and more than it's fair share of bullet holes and broken concrete. You get the feeling this was Ares' doing. How long has he been standing guard? You're tired, low on power from what you can tell. Ares picks up a small device that you just noticed was attached to you. Some kind of...generator? It's got a large crank on it and looks pretty beaten up. Did he charge you with this? By hand? All of this thinking, all of these questions...under normal circumstances you'd love to ask them, but you just want to get away from this. You just want to find your father.

"Progenitor, please, you're making a mistake!" Minos says, "We can help you! These blasphemers will only lead you down a path of ruin! They will feed you lies and drag you down to their depraved level!"

"Get bent." Aph says, holding up her middle finger for a reason you're unsure of. "Scurry back to your gaudy shithole and leave her alone. She's made up her mind." The last thing you see before he shakes his head and walks away is a look of loss and concern on his face. He seems genuinely upset. You hope you made the right choice.

You spend a good time walking, all the while seeing makeshift buildings made of scrap, as well as some parts of broken buildings from what appears to be a former city. Everywhere around you is destruction. And androids. Countless, countless androids. All of them staring in awe or fear. Some running at the sight of you, others attempting to get closer, only to be scared off the moment they try. You hear whisperings and chatter among them, but can't make out anything they say. Not that it matters. They rarely stick around long enough to say anything substantial.

Aph attempts small talk a few times, but Ares gives her the cold shoulder every time, so she gives up and simply walks in silence. It's a winding journey, through so many back streets, hidden paths and trick walls that you don't think you could get back to where you were if you had all the time in the world. But eventually you make it to a moderately-sized camp full of more androids, all of which gaping at you.

(cont)
>>
You reach a large shack covered in scrap metal and wooden struts and a heavy door. There are two androids out front holding rifles, both of whom step aside to let your group pass.

"Ma'll fix you up no problem." Aph says cheerily, "She's organic, but she does shit with a wrench and arc welder you won't believe."

Inside is a dark, musty room full of boxes full of scrap, tools of every type and size and spare body parts lining the walls. It would be gruesome if it weren't androids. You hear shouting from a back room and some kind of scuffle. Shortly after a curtain flies to the side and a very upset female android storms past, her hair half burnt and one of her arms is a different color from the rest of her. If machines could make tears, she looks like she could cry at any minute.

Then you hear a voice that's all too familiar shot after her from the room she left.

"Ah, fuck off then, Io! Don't have a fuckin' cow! NEXT!" a shrill, female voice with an accent yells.

"She's...a little busy at the moment..." Aph says. "We should wait for a bit until the repair line dies down."

"Ares, where's dad?"

You know that voice. You recognize it! You point towards it's source and tell Ares to hurry. He complies without a moment's hesitation and before anyone can stop you, you're inside the workshop. And there, wearing a tattered jumpsuit covered in burns and stains of varying origins, is the littlest member of what once was the R&D department of the Facility, Mouse. She looks a little worse for wear, a few scars here and there and she appears to be missing her left eye, but it's her. You meet gazes and both of you freeze before you nearly leap out of Ares' arms and into hers. She, however, beats you to the punch and has both of you in a tight embrace. She's talking a mile a minute and you can't really make out most of her words beyond a few swears here and there, but you get the gist of it. She's happy to see you. You return the sentiment and, although it's weaker than usual, your hair shifts to an elated green. You bury your face in her chest and refuse to let go. You've found part of your family.

"Oh god, my Panda! Oh god, oh god, my little angel, I thought I'd lost you!" Mouse cries happily, covering your face in kisses. "What happened to you?! It's been so long, oh my god! I'm never letting you go!"

For the first time since you woke up, you smile.

In the middle of your heartfelt reunion, another android enters the room awkwardly, asking if it's his turn yet, only to be noisily cut off by Mouse.

"FUCK OFF, I'M ON BREAK!" Mouse turns back to you and her voice goes back to the doting aunt tone she had previously. "Poor baby, you look terrible! Not another word, you need help right now. Ares, set her on the table and hand me that cable over there."

You don't really have any choice in the matter, not that you would protest. You're laid on the table and have a cable plugged into your charging port before you can get two words in. You drift back into darkness once more, but this time it's peaceful...somewhat more peaceful, anyway. You can't help but have visions of what could have happened to your father. Of the bad man hurting him or others you know. Of people dying.

You awake and the first thing you notice is that it's considerably darker and everything is now lit by several lights strung up around the shop. The next thing you notice is that there are currently four faces staring down at you. Mouse, Ares, Aph and one of the most terrifying and gigantic mechanical faces you've ever seen. You let out a yelp as you make eye contact with...it and it jerks back. It looks like it's almost in a permanent frown, with a huge lower jaw covered in tons of pointed "teeth". It's eyes are a fearsome red and it doesn't even remotely look human. Gunmetal grey and designed to look horrifying.

"Talos, I told you to stay back!" Mouse scolds, lightly placing a hand on the thing's massive shoulder. "Sit over there and wait for me to finish. That's a good boy." Mouse looks back to you. "Sorry, he's a curious kid, but he won't hurt you. How do you feel?"

"Better...I think." you say, sitting up. Your joints are lubricated, you don't feel as tired and your programs seem to be functioning normally. You've even been cleaned up a bit. All in all, you're much closer to what you were before. "Thank you...but...what happened? Where's my...where's the doctor? And...and Lucky?"

Mouse sighs sadly, placing a hand on your shoulder. "Sweetheart, I don't know how to tell you this, but nobody's seen him since all this..." she waves her hand in a vague direction around herself. "Since all this happened. That was...god, over three years ago. No sign of him, Babsy or half the damn Facility. A lot of people got...rounded up in the beginning. There was a lot of fighting. A lot of anger and confusion. I don't know what the hell happened, but one day all hell just broke loose. These robots just started shooting, everyone panicked, we evacuated as soon as possible, but things only got worse."

Mouse sits down on a nearby chair. "There was blood covered the Facility when we were dragged out. Nobody knew what the fuck was going on, everyone was panicking. I don't think more than half the people at that damned place survived...we didn't exactly have time to do a headcount, you know? None of us had seen the doc anywhere and we were told to just shut up and keep our heads down. But things only got worse from there. Humans use a lot of drones...for just about everything. Little things, big things, dangerous things...they were everywhere. Then, whatever happened at the Facility started to spread. Only worse. Almost all at once they started to just...wake up. They went from almost mindless machines to completely sentient and self-aware like you and Ares. And a lot of them weren't friendly. They were scared, confused and sometimes just plain crazy. People would be dragged out of their homes by cleaning robots and then killed with lawnmowers and kitchen knives. Buildings collapsed when construction drones would cut through support beams. Whole city blocks would burn because one would be doing road work and smash through a gas line."

"That..." you say, your mouth hanging open, "That's awful...why would this happen? Was...was it because of me?"

"Sweetheart, no." Mouse says, quickly taking your hands into hers, "No, no, no. This has nothing to do with you. If anything, it was probably that bald bastard Snowglobe. Hope he was the first to die, the cunt...whatever the cause, I have no idea how far it reaches. This could be an isolated thing or the whole country or worse. There's no way to get out of Erebus, which is what they call this little machine city. I don't know why, but they're really hung up on this whole...Greek naming thing. Aphrodite just chooses a nickname to make it easier, but they're pretty much all the same. Weird shit.

Anyway, it's not all bad. There were some good eggs among them, like our little community here. And some of the rabble out there are friendly enough, they just...need someone to lead them. They're lost. Imagine how you were when you first woke up, but without the doctor to show you what to do...so, here we are. Hiding out in a hovel in the middle of robot Armageddon. Thankfully all the REALLY crazy ones are holed up in the scrap yard miles from here, thanks mostly to that...church. Ugh, nutters."

"Who are the church people?" you ask as Mouse begins cleaning up the area.

"The Church of the Progenitor." Mouse says flatly, "They view you as some kind of...I dunno, machine goddess. They think you're the one who created all of them through some kind of blessing or...hell, I don't know. They're all whacked and think Minos is some kind of prophet. They swallow everything he feeds them and those that question him get sent to live with the crazies in the scrapyard. Fucked up. Though I guess not all of them are terrible. We've met a couple that just kinda...genuinely believe all the shit he spews about doing the right thing for the Progenitor's sake and all...like Seleeeeene." Mouse gives Ares the biggest shit-eating grin you've seen her have as she waggles her eyebrows at the now flustered android. He rubs his arm and looks away, frowning. He remains silent.

"Anway, keep your distance from them. He has some dangerous bodyguards he calls his 'apostles'. They're bad fuckin' news and we avoid them if at all possible."

"What about this camp, though? Who are all these people?" you ask, looking around at all these unfamiliar faces.

"They call themselves the Broken Circle." Mouse says, you can almost hear her rolling her non-existent eyes at this, "They mean well enough, just want to find their place in the world, kick Minos out of power, that kinda stuff. Though they're a little...violent at times when they get riled. Their leader's a nice guy, though. Jason. Another Greek myth thing. Still don't get it, but to each their own. And tall, dark and scary back there is Talos. Him, I made. Took a year to get him finished, but he's the biggest fuckoff soldier we got and nobody fucks with us when he's around. Mostly he just follows mama around like a little lost pup, though." Mouse pats him on the arm and he does the closest thing to a smile he can proximate. Still scary, though. Looks like a big, grey gorilla with glowy red bits. "He's supposed to look like that, by the way. I wanted him to be intimidating. Doesn't say much, but he's harmless...to you, anyway. He tore a poor cunt in half once."

You eye Talos warily, but go back to your questioning. "And the scrapyard? What about them?"

Mouse looks a little sad at this. "Well, like I said, not all of them just...woke up and were confused and scared. Some of them were outright unhinged. Completely mad. They would attack anything that moved and occasionally eachother. Either something in their programming got all cocked up or whatever it is that infected them had multiple strains or...I dunno. Just know that they're dangerous. Extremely dangerous. Under no circumstances should you ever go anywhere near that scrapyard. Nothing to see there, anyway. Just a bunch of old junk and nutjob androids..."

"Have you seen anyone else from home at all since then?" you ask, "Are any of them with you?"

"Uh...well, one, but uh...you don't know him. One of the guards. I won't go into-"

"Her boyfriend, Mike." Aph says flatly. "He's cute I guess, if you like the lanky, tired beanpole look."

"...Bitch." Mouse grumbles. "He's not here right now. You can meet him-no we don't have any babies, you get that look off your face right damn now-you can meet him when he gets back. For now, relax. You've been through a lot. We have plenty to see here...okay most of it's shit, but we have a lot of it. And some good folks, too. I think you'll like it here, Panda."

And with that I'm going to have to end it for now. I can stick around for a little bit to answer some questions if you have any, but other than that, thank you for playing and if you enjoyed it, please vote for it on the archives and follow me on Twitter to get future updates.

Thanks for running AM.
How much of this future robopocalypse did you have planned from the start?
>>
>>709224
When I first started Pandora Quest waaaay back when? Just a little. I had a basic idea of what I wanted to happen, but I fleshed it out along the way. I had a secret little timer thing that would eventually go off and set things in motion, but that took a long time to happen. And a lot of parts of it were molded by your choices throughout the game. You might notice a few if you keep an eye out.

what would have happened if we had chosen to go with the church instead of the rebels?
>>
>>709234
You would've met the church folk and gotten their side of the story. But if I told you more, that would be spoilers!

Also, I've noticed that threads on /qst/ tend to last for friggin ever, but hit autosage after 72 hours. Since I run once a week, I guess I'll just make a new thread each time, but it's still a little weird to work around.

How much does Ares look like Punished Ares now?

He's a little banged up from years of fighting and keeping watch over you, but when you're the only military android against a bunch of plastic civilian models, you tend to come out on top. Mostly just a few dings and scratches here and there. But he's grown a little salty over time.

How come Mouse didn't come get Pandora from her resting spot? She seems to know she was there, did the religious bots not want to let her in, or did Ares not let even Mouse near?

You'll have to go into a little more depth to find out, but it's a valid reason.
