“I managed to make it out, but bugger all good that’s managed ta do fer me. It seems like no matter where I go in this god fersaken city those agents in black are right behind me. Even in the sewers fer fucks sake! I’m not sure how they’re doin’ it, but I guess this really gonna be da end. To whatever unfortunate son of a bitch who gets this armour next, you can find a little present down at the 32nd East Side docks.”

Colin’s own voice recordings provide some other level activity to do with Wendy busy chewing both you and Marina out. She’s been at it for the better part of an hour now since you've come back and it's starting to get more boring than anything.

“...There’s military everywhere out there! Military that wants the crystals embedded in our brains and that they think we’re monsters! The military are not our friends here, they’re our enemies! Our enemies that are basically almost everywhere in the city and if we piss them off we can expect something like an attack helicopter on our asses in no time flat!” Wendy continues to lecture to the both of you as you sit on the floor in the apartment. “Not only that, you both smell like raw sewage!”

“I had to hide in a dumpster for nearly two hours.” you reply to Wendy.

“I uh... Father Mercellius, Mochire, and I did have to break a hole in the street and run through the sewers for a bit...” Marina says next to you. “I mean there were APC’s, tanks, and even a dragonblooded after us...”

“WHICH WOULD’VE NEVER HAPPENED IF YOU HAD ONLY LISTENED TO ME!” Wendy immediately yells back to you both. “Between one of you’s wanting to go see their father and the other wanting to go see their sister, you couldn’t figured it out that maybe, just maybe, the military knows all about us and would’ve been able to swarm those positions like fly on shit the very second that you were detected!?”

- “I’m sorry... but I couldn’t bear the thought of my sister getting injured by some sort of Gremlin attack. I needed to make sure she was alright.”

- “If you want an apology for making sure my sister was safe then you’re not getting it. I needed to make sure my sister was safe, besides I wasn’t even caught.”

>What is this quest?

Alchemical Blade Prequel Quest, a quest set in the Modern version of Creation from the Exalted setting, focusing on how the robotic Alchemical Exalted came to be within the setting. If you love hints of Cyberpunk and high action quests, then you may enjoy this quest.

>Who are we?

The quest is mainly going to be played out in flashbacks, in which during the flashbacks we take control of the Moonsilver caste Alchemical Exalted Junpaku Hibiki, while in the current time you play as “Anonymous”. The game will take place within the city of Versino within the central continent of Creation Meruvia. Labelled as a dangerous and murderous science experiment gone rogue, you need to evade forces of the mightiest army within Creation sprinkled with the powerful Elemental supersoldiers known as the Dragonblooded, trying to find out who is responsible for what you’ve become and how to escape their clutches once and for all.

>Alchemical? Moonsilver? I don’t know anything about Exalted, much less Modern Exalted...

I’ve made this quest to be as friendly to newbies as possible, and I also see it as an introductory guide to the World of Modern Exalted. You can google “1d4chan Exalted” for information on the general vanilla setting, but what I’ll be using is the Modern Version of Exalted as shown in “Shards of the Exalted Dream” book, in where its Alchemicals are quite different than those of Vanilla Exalted. Feel free to ask any question about Exalted in the thread and I will do my best to answer it.

>System?

Dicepool system. When performing an action, everyone rolls a number of d10’s based on what the action is (I will list the pools for most actions, but if you want to have a roll for an action, ask and I’ll make the dicepool for it). The first roll is the one that’ll be used, but if someone makes another roll for a different action and more people vote for that, I’ll be using that one instead.

>This seems hella complicated, is there any way you can boil things down for me?

http://pastebin.com/NexXpPC1

>XP?

Favored Attributes cost 4 XP per dot to increase (Underlined on stat sheet when released) while non-favored ones cost 5 XP. Abilities themselves cost 3 XP per dot to increase naturally. All charms cost 6 XP per purchase with Dedicated slots costing 4 XP each and General ones costing 6 XP each. At the end of every “mission” (In game objectives set by either me or some goal the audience desires) you will be presented with a possible acquisition list of charms. Experience can also be gained by developing the character, learning about the world, or just in general things people find interesting.

"I needed to be sure of what’s going on here, first with John Doe, and now this info with my sister.” You reply to Wendy. “I know that you need to be able to depend upon me, but there's more to her and this than what you might think of as just some family member.”

“Enlighten me.” Wendy immediately retorts without batting an eyelash.

“I needed to see if there was a way in which she was acting differently or oddly, which she didn't. I also needed to see if I could gain access to my bank account, which could help us all get what we need.” you add.

“Money...What use is money going to be?” Mochire asks from the nearby couch. “Everything’s hunky dory now, but if the military continues to refuse to accept outside supplies than at this rate the only thing money is going to useful for is low grade toilet paper.”

“A large sum of money when the infrastructure is still strong can give us a strong head start for the inevitable collapse.” Osvald replies.

“Eh!? Collapse!?” Marina says in a panic.

“With how things are currently progressing, the chances are 98.731 percent of a complete societal collapse yes.” Osvald explains. “All trade is banned from Versino while all future food supplies are in the hands of the military, same for the water when that stops working.”

“Don’t change the subject!” Wendy warns Osvald. “The very fact they’re in the area means that the military already got ID’s on them!”

“I wasn't positively IDed by them and I made sure to avoid them, but I told you already that I encountered another Alchemical named Neptune who was going to slaughter everyone at the hotel. Apparently John Doe was just an employee compared to whomever they were trying to kill, but to do so they felt they needed to kill literally everyone nearby." you warn.

“Neptune? Huh, I wonder if the pelagials are also near here as well...” Mochire says as he goes deep into thought.

“Oh please there are cameras everywhere in the city! If the military or the city didn’t see you than those drones would’ve when you stood up against that Neptune. Those drones probably have those pictures of you that the military already has their hands on!” Wendy says with a small sigh as she rubs her forehead. “I hoping they won’t involve your sister in this. They specifically want you and they know your name, so it’s only a matter of time.”

“I doubt that.” Osvald replies to Wendy. “The J&P Bank is very powerful in its own right. Any undo provocation from the military, or really anything happening to them during this event could mean a large blow to Meruvia’s own economy.”
>>
[2/2]

Wendy gives a small grunt as she hears this. “I still want both you avoiding high risk areas from this moment on. No meeting your family members, no heading back to your old houses, don’t even go to your favorite restaurants. With the amount of Alchemicals currently in the city we could possibly get away with wandering about so long as we stay out of sight, but if things become to hairy don’t hesitate to give any of us a call for backup.”

“Y-Yes... I-I understand...” Marina says, sounding a bit depressed at this order.

“Now go on and amuse yourselves with whatever you find in this hotel. We’re not leaving the rest of the day as a safety precaution.” Wendy says as she begins to leave the room. “I myself am just heading over to have a nap...”

There’s not much left of the day in the first place, so you may just see what’s happening around this area. Father Marcellius and Wendy seem to have gone off by themselves for a bit, so you figure it's best to leave them alone for now.

I'm kinda unsure of whether to talk to Mochire, Osvald, or Dexter. Finding out about Neptune could be useful, Osvald deserves thanks for defending us and probably still has the info about our sister, and Dexter's help could be useful too.

Deciding to see how Dexter is currently doing, you head on over to the bed he’s in to have a look.

As you approach the bed, you can see that Dexter himself is currently amusing himself with a tablet, his upper torso bare while his mid-section still remains bandaged and his lower half only having a pair of underwear on it. “Eek! I’m indecent!” Dexter says in a joking tone as he attempts to cover himself up.

“You don’t give that sort of reaction towards anyone else who comes in.” you say as you walk towards him, opening up your faceplate. “How are you doing?”

“A lot better since Osvald has been taking care of me. You know aside from his utter lack of bedside manner he’s a terrific doctor. In fact I also need to thank you Hibiki for keeping my insides inside.” Dexter says.

“I did what I could to help, though to be honest I was also curious about what Alchemical physiology was also like, I find it a bit unnerving that nearly all of our organs have serial numbers.” you reply.

“Great for inventory and checking! No need to say ‘we need to replace about two feet of your small intestines’ when you can just say ‘we need to replace SI-23 from SI-28’. Regardless of whatever happens, it's still your body so try not to go full existentialist on me.” Dexter tells you. “Though something tells me that you’re not just here to check up on my condition as a nurse.”

“The ability of which you inferred that leads me directly into my next point. Can you give any advice on how to interact with people more efficiently?” you ask Dexter. “I heard that you had the most socialization based augmentations and even if I’m a combat unit, I’d still like to know some.”

“A notable goal, that’s for sure. Well tell me, how much do you know of social interaction as of right now?” Dexter asks putting down his tablet.

“I’ve had basic etiquette and interaction skills with people in formalized settings, such as gatherings and tea parties, but since becoming an Alchemical I’ve learned that threatening people with their lives gets me pretty far.” you reply.

Dexter chuckles to himself as he hears that. “Yes! That’s certainly one way to make progress! Threatening someone with something they know or care about, such as their life is one way to make them willing to go along with your commands, but it's unlikely to make you friends in the long run.”

“Got any advice on other approaches than?” you ask Dexter.

thankfully I know of a way to explain it.” Dexter points out to you before shifting himself on the bed a bit. “Connections, connections towards people, ideas, places, and things is how one shapes their perceptions of the world in general. If someone on the street asks you to help move their couch into their new apartment, what do you say in response?”

“Why should I even help you?” you reply, unsure of where this is heading.

“Exactly! You don’t want to help because you don’t even know them! But what about if it was perhaps Father Mercellius? Or even your sister? Chances are you’ll help them somehow unless you had something else more important.” Dexter tells you. “You can use these connections people have to influence their own decision making about you, anything from buying a meal for you to asking you to help complete a life or death mission.”

“What if they don’t trust you though?” you ask.

“Then find something they care about a twist it so that it involves the current favor you’re trying to ask for. If a man refuses to do something for you and you realize he has a family, regretfully inform him that maybe his family would be more cooperative than he was. If a person who is all about the bottom dollar won’t open the door for you, maybe ‘incentives’ in the form of cold hard cash would make him more willing to talk. Even if you have a silver tongue, one still needs to know how to use it for it to have any effect, and using these connections are certainly something you can use.” Dexter finishes.

TUTORIAL: INTIMACIES

Everyone in the setting has attachments to people, places, things, or ideas. These are called intimacies, and their strength varies depending on how strongly people believe in them. A minor intimacy shows passing interesting in a field or thing, people will fight for it but not against extreme odds or at any risk of major personal danger to their job/current status. Major intimacies are things people are willing to risk themselves for but will often stop just short of death, or feel very strongly towards someone. A defining intimacy is the core ideal of one’s identity, something they adhere to above all other things and would certainly die for such things. By figuring out intimacies of a target, you can ask them to do more dangerous activities or ask for more detailed/risky information.

- How do I even defend myself against others seeking to do the same?

- You constantly mentioned people’s connections, but I seemed to be able to bypass that pretty easily when I had a sword in people’s faces.

- We all seem pretty willing to fight and die for each other, even though Mochire and Osvald seem to hate each other.

“We all seem pretty willing to fight and die for each other, even though Mochire and Osvald seem to hate each other.” you reply to Dexter.

“That’s because we’re part of a group Hibiki, where we’re all banding together for mutual interest. Wendy for example may not have approved of either you or Marina’s little outing, but she’d still leap to your defense if you called for aid. Same with me if I didn’t have holes in my organs.” Dexter replies. “We’re largely an exception to what I just said, but don’t expect it to apply to everyone else.”

“How do I even defend myself against others seeking to do the same?” you ask.

“First is making sure you keep what you hold dear to your towards yourself. You seem a bit better and keeping things to yourself compared to Father Marcellius or Marina who wear their hearts on their sleeves, but if people don’t know much about you than they’ll find it much harder to get information or favors out of you.” Dexter explains to you. “If they do actually find out, then you’ve got to hold on to what you consider truly important. Think about the things that are really important to you if the words of others seem all the more tempting.”

“You mention those connections and things that people hold dear all the time, but they don’t seem to matter when I hold a sword to their face.” you reply.

“For the vast majority of people just being able to live trumps nearly any other aspect of their life. Threatening someone with their life is a surefire way to get you what you want, but as I said before those people who are akin to true patriots? The ones who would fight to the bitter end for their cause? Those are the people you’ll need to convince with something other than their lives.” Dexter tells you. “Plus convincing people with other means usually sticks better, as a soldier who’s threatened with their life will very likely sound the alarm as soon as he believes the coast is clear for him to do so.”

“Can people care about more things or lose connection to things over time, or when they're overburdened with other things to do?” you ask.

“People’s interests wade and rise over time itself yes, it's quite possible that someone’s interest in the love of their life may dampen considerably if he finds out their spouse is cheating or loves another. Someone’s childhood love of an activity may fade as they grow into adulthood, and even Backdraft claimed to have sworn off the Time of Tumult television show after characters he liked died within it. Point is such things happen all the time, but happens much slower for things people care deeply about.” Dexter tells you. “Besides, I know you wouldn’t actually kill someone who surrendered unconditionally towards you.”

“You don’t know that.” you reply to Dexter.
>>
[2/2]

Dexter smiles as he hears your response. “I’m willing to bet my life on it. Don’t worry though, your secret is safe with me and I’m very good at keeping secrets. Just don’t let your opponents know that~.”

TUTORIAL: GUILE AND RESOLVE

Guile is the score used for resisting people’s attempts to glean information from your intimacies, which are done by a Perception+Socialize roll against a target’s Guile. If successful, the target learns the intimacy most closely related to the current scene at hand (EX: At a party, a target may be able to tell what you truly think of someone if they bring them up, regardless of your spoken answer).

Resolve is what’s used to resist social influence rolls, from casual conversation to mind bending terror. Intimacies can be used to raise one’s resolve, and the higher the intimacy level the higher bonus to Resolve one gains from using it, but if one knows your intimacy and uses it as a vector for a social attack your Resolve is penalized depending on how important the intimacy is. If your Resolve is ever breached than as a last ditch resort you can select an intimacy relevant to the current scene (EX: Selecting “Show no hesitation in what you do” in order to resist fear) and pay one willpower to resist it. If a social influence attempt fails, then any attempt to bring it up again for the rest of the scene fails unless you up the ante on it (EX: If intimidation by threatening a life won’t work, mention doing it to his family while he watches).

“There are various augmentations that help with socialization yes, but just remember those are tools and not crutches. If you know a target well enough than just simply having enough skill in your conversational skills will be enough to get them to do almost anything. I mean I convinced people to give up national secrets to me before, and that was when I was still a mortal!” Dexter says with a hint of pride.

- “Convinced people to give up national secrets? What did you do before becoming an Alchemical then?”

- Ask another question about social influence

[1/2]

“Convinced people to give up national secrets? What did you do before becoming an Alchemical then?” you ask Dexter.

“I was an agent working for the Office of Meruvian Intelligence.” Dexter simply replies with a smile on his face.

“You? Working for OMI? The Meruvia Secret Service itself? I find that one of the strangest things I’ve heard since becoming an Alchemical, and considering I’ve discovered since then that’s saying something.” you reply to help.

Dexter gives a small chuckle as he hears this. “It is a big pill to swallow yes, but I did indeed work for them. The media portrays us as action heroes of all kinds, and while I’ve had my fair share of shootouts and combat it really isn’t what you think it is. Most of the time an agent's greatest weapon is their own conversational skills and the intelligence they’re often given, often on a need-to-know basis unfortunately. I remember one of my first missions where I was to extract a Tengese VIP out, only to run into the police into the park and they beat me unconscious because they found out I was Meruvian. Ah, the simpler days...”

If Dexter is a Secret Agent, than this should be the topic to ask him. "What do you think of all of this? Everything that's been happening to us? There's supposedly some sort of...I don't even know. Shadow faction at work here? John Doe should be dead, but a lieutenant was there right at the last moment, even John Doe is just foot-soldier compared to his commander. Why create this tech, then torture and kill anyone on a whim or bring the military here but not have it ready to stop us?"

Dexter simply shrugs as he hears this. “What you need to learn Hibiki is that in this business, everyone takes orders from someone else. Even when I was in the field and thought I discovered the head of an organization, in actuality it felt I was always one step behind, nailing what I thought to be an underling rather than the head of an organization. Personally I’m not sure why they don’t just simply launch a nuclear missile on Versino, obliterate most of the Alchemicals and most likely the jamming devices keeping our locations safe from the military than just mop up.”

“A nuclear missile against us would be overkill.” you reply to Dexter.

“Oh no, not at all. Some Alchemicals, such as myself, can easily survive a direct nuclear assault but the real reward is information in the terms of where we would be. I was privy to enough information on Meruvia to know that doing something like this to ensure Alchemicals remained state secrets and prevent their leakage to the outside world would easily outweigh any fallout from detonating a nuclear device on their own soil, the government can spin it off any way they want. I believe this entire experiment, every single thing done to us, has all been for a purpose. What that purpose is I have no idea, but I’m pretty sure people John Doe will know.” Dexter replies.
>>
[2/2]

“...You can survive a nuclear missile but a few bullets to the stomach nearly kills you?” you ask Dexter.

Dexter chuckles to himself upon hearing this. “I got shot because I didn’t see it coming and I was careless. If I knew a nuclear blast was upon me, than with my current loadout I would definitely be able to survive it, same for Father Marcellius and Wendy, though you and Marina will be able to do such things very soon. Motonic powered beings such as ourselves and Dragonblooded have changed the way warfare works, especially when humanity’s old trump cards of nuclear weaponry only serve to piss them off.”

"You know, that was what I was thinking of a worst-case-scenario. Whoever was and is running this lacking the imagination to test something like this without actually using people and infrastructure." you reply.

“As I said, we’re most likely lacking the bigger picture here Hibiki. There’s always a reason behind whatever madness that exists. It may not be a good reason, but there will be one nonetheless.” Dexter replies.

You give a sigh as you hear this. “No reason is justifiable for the horrors I’ve seen today. Still, I thank you Dexter. I still have questions about all of this but at least they're sorted." you reply to him.

“Yes, go ahead and rest up while you can. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t having trouble understanding all of this as well.” Dexter replies.

“A bath and meditation is in line for the night, after which I’ll see if I can find any green tea before heading to bed.” you reply to him.

“Good night Ms. Samurai.” Dexter says with a grin on his face.

******

At about 6:30 AM, you are down at the East Side docks at the other end of town. The sound of boats moving in and out are as silent as the automated cargo loaders and cranes amidst the maze of shipyards that line the area. Looking at the address you used the web search engine Chosen for this is the 32nd East side dockhouse, a large blue building kissed with the large patches of rust that comes from years of standing next to the oceanside itself. The large cargo doors in front of you seem to tower over any sort of mundane truck that would come this way, nearly 20 feet tall, but more localized doors can be spotted on the side of the building, held in place with rusty locks and chains as the ID panels long ago fell into disrepair.

You mutter to yourself as you look at the building in front of you, no workers in sight let alone any sort of drones or military guards. “I wonder if going in the front entrance is safe, but maybe I should check the roof as well...”

Standing between them you quickly leap back and forth between the two of them before landing directly onto the metal roof of the building itself.

After a quick glance around for drones you begin looking at the roof itself, seeing several glass windows on the roof itself. As you carefully approach all of the windows to gaze inside of them, you can see the wooden crates on the ground floor, the shelves themselves empty as most of the storage area appears to be roughly abandoned.

“No wonder they used this area for smuggling, it's nearly dead in of itself.” you mutter to yourself as you approach the window that is the exact center of the building. “There could be traps in this building laid either by Colm or by the people who caught Colm. However I can’t stay long out here, as I’d be a sitting duck for any sort of spotter drone up here.”

While looking around at the top of the warehouse you decide to give Osvald a call yourself.

After a few short rings Osvald picks up. “Hello Hibiki.”

“Osvald, I need a small favor for you. You knew Colm right?” you ask him.

“Yes, but this will need to be a quick favor. A situation is developing so I am somewhat preoccupied.” Osvald replies.

“It’ll only take a second. I’ve been following Osvald’s logs he left in this suit and apparently he managed to escape Sub Basement Eight, and before being killed he mentioned something about a personal stash.” you reply as you look down into the warehouse. “I’m at the warehouse where he claimed to have put his stash, but I’m worried about any potential traps.”

“In terms of the government there would no traps there. Colm was a smuggler before he was caught so any area he’d store his smuggled goods in would have little to no security. He’d most likely install his own security.” Osvald replies.

Upon hearing this you walk over to a nearby window, lifting it up and jumping down onto the upper level catwalk of the warehouse. “Any idea what that could be?”

“I’m not sure, but I’m wagering things such as improvised explosives or sentry guns. Colm would’ve left some way to shut down such devices at the very least.” Osvald explains. “Look for a computer terminal somewhere in the building or a USB stick, you may need to boot into a specific OS on a specific system to make sure nothing goes wrong.”

“And if that fails?” you ask Osvald as you look down at the maze of wooden crates below.

“Your Omnitool can let you defuse bombs.” Osvald replies.

“Not the best of encouragement, but thanks.” you reply to Osvald before cutting the connection. “...Great, a potential minefield with a pot of gold within it. For someone who was constantly on the run from the cops you sure did work quickly...”

“If I had Infrared vision I’d probably be able to see if I could spot any heat signatures from the crates down below...” you mutter to yourself as you head on over to the small office in the catwalks, spending your time carefully rummaging through it.

(Colm’s roll gained 13 successes on 15 dice vs Hibiki’s 3 successes, search for the USB boot drive failed)

After about 15 minutes of searching for it yourself you give a small sigh as you sit back down in the gutted out remains of the office chair. Colm was a smuggler, so it makes sense that if he wanted something hidden really well he’d know just the place.

“Can’t spend all day here.” you mutter to yourself as you take out your Omnitool and plug a USB directly into the computer itself as it starts up.

As the computer starts up and you begin to look through the logs of the computer, you discover that the last logs entered for this was nearly four years ago, but the computer itself was accessed far more recently.

“It appears that his friends must’ve used this computer several times without an external boot device. If I’m lucky I may be able to find something on here, but if I’m unlucky I’ll fry whatever last legs this computer seems to be on.

“Let’s hope this works.” you say to yourself as you begin to search through any sort of access logs before attempting to deep dive. Most were vocal communications, but a few quick texts are made asking for a password reminder. No solid date is given out, but Colm seems to be yelling at people for forgetting the birthday of his own wife.

“Yatta!” you exclaim as you begin to dive into the old RAM of the system before accessing the internet at the same time, looking up information on Colm’s own wife, narrowing down the hits significantly before being sure that you managed to find it. At the same time you’re putting together a barely functional skeleton program of what was originally a skeleton program, the Omnitool Implant gives advice on how to put it together but even it warns it's more akin to a guide for experienced people rather than newbies such as yourself.

After resetting the computer and forcing it to start up on the scraps you put together from the old memory itself, a flickering OS systems starts up after about crashing for the third time. One of the files directly on the desktop being Safetyfuse.exe, and sure enough starting it up asks for a password.

“Let’s see here... Colm is Haslanti, the date format for that is... Month/day/year. His wife’s birthday being... 11242155...” you say to yourself as you access the systems.

“Didn’t whatever you found to be destroyed? Interesting.” you say to yourself as you turn off all the security precautions before unplugging yourself from the computer, leaping down to the main warehouse floor, heading for a rather conspicuous crate surrounded by a large amount of other crates.

As you open the crate you can see what appears to be two canisters inside of it. One canister appears to have a greyish blue liquid swirling around inside of it while the other appears to have a bright glowing blue substance inside of it, both of them held in oversized syringes with a triplicate set of long needles on them.
>>
[2/3]

“I suppose I should be congradulatin’ on whoever found this.” Colm’s voice rings out, in which you look down in the crate you can see an ancient voice recording device on top of a picture showing a rather happy man and a smiling woman, a newborn baby sitting in between them. “If yer’ hearin’ this than I’m most likely dead and now the next unfortunate son of a bitch is in me suit, and if it’s someone else then piss off. Whenever ye managed to get ‘ere by cuttin’ yer way through my security or by findin’ the USB stick hidden inside the computer then I only wish ya ta best of luck. I found out the two things in this ‘ere crate are... disposables of some kind I stole before I left. The grey one heals ya up a bit while the glowin’ blue one recharge’s ya batteries. Only works on us Alchemicals too, so those Dragonblooded gits get nothing from it. To whomever is listening to this I hope that ye luck is better than mine, and Miriam, I’m sorry I won’t be there to see our son grow up, but I’m sure than he’ll be a better man than I ever was. AND IF YOU SEE TRAVIS KICK THE BLEEDING BASTARD UP THE SIDE OF THE HEAD FOR ME!”

“Never one to say no to the will of a dead man, nor things left for me.” you say grabbing the items inside of the crate, putting them inside of containers that pop out from the side of your thigh.

(You gained: 1x Colm’s Last Message, 1x Colm’s Family Photograph, 1x E-Tank S, 1x Sub-Tank S)

TUTORIAL: E-TANKS AND SUB-TANKS

E-Tanks and Sub-Tanks are rare and consumable items that provide rapid healing and restoration on the field, but given that the only place that could make them is Sub Basement Eight they’re now quite rare. An E-Tank S refills 20 motes of your motonic Reservoir instantly while a Sub-Tank S automatically heals 3 health levels plus one additional level for each success one gains on a Stamina + Resistance roll.

Just as you put away your items, you get a call from Osvald. “Hibiki, have you completed your errands?”

“I just finished. Is there something wrong?” you ask.

“Developing situation we all need to be aware of. Come back to the hotel immediately.” Osvald replies.

“Be back in 20. Out.” you reply as you head towards the exit of the warehouse.

******

“Is everyone here?” you say entering the ‘common’ room of the hotel you’re in.

“Dexter’s taking a shower.” Wendy replies as she remains near the window, watching it even though the shutters are closed.

“Is this important? I was enjoying skeet shooting drones in the city.” Mochire replies to the group.

“Yes.” Osvald bluntly states.
>>
[3/3]

“If Osvald says it's important, then I guess it must be important...” a female voice you haven’t heard before says behind you. As you turn around, you can see what appears to be an incredibly beautiful woman with radiant blue skin and long light blue hair that goes all the way down to her waist. Even as an Alchemical, her entire body appears to be something one would see in an art show on display rather than something moving around in reality.

“Uwaa! M-Miss!” Marina says immediately putting her hands in front of her eyes. “P-P-Please put on some clothes!”

“I will once I managed to find some here that’ll fit me...” The woman says with a sigh as she strolls on over to the nearby mini fridge.

You immediately close the visor on your own suit. “Excuse me, but who are you?”

“Dexter.” Osvald immediately answers.

“WHAT!?” Marina gasps out in shock. “That’s Dexter!?”

“Last I checked Dexter had a penis.” you retort to Osvald.

“Ooohhh... And here I was hoping to toy with them a little longer...” Dexter says in a pouting tone of voice as she opens a beer.

“Explain. Now.” you demand.

“Oh that’s easy. Since the military will be looking for male version of me they shot up, I figured why not throw them off even more by using the female version of myself~.” Dexter says with a smile as she sips on her beer.

“You can literally change your sex on a whim!?” you ask in astonishment.

Dexter smiles as she hears your outbreak. “Yes, and if I really wanted to I could be literally anyone I wanted. Sex, gender, age, race, even the very DNA, I could copy it all and become immune to nearly every sort of test short of exploratory surgery. Though with the way you closed your facemask, I can answer your next question and say that yes, this body is also fully compatible no matter the form~.”

“Eh, I liked you better as a guy. Your butt was flat but at least your face was cute.” Mochire flatly replies to Dexter.

“Oh that’s a shame... But I think Hibiki herself is getting a show at least hm~?” Dexter says over towards your direction with a smile on her face.

“...Eight out of ten. Body is flawless but your personality towards all this is creepy as hell.” you reply to Dexter.

“Oh my! An actual compliment! I’m flattered!” Dexter preens from the comment.

“What is the important thing you called us here for?” Wendy then asks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6__YBUTxkI

“Meruvia has called in its elite guard, the Wyld Hunters.” Osvald says to the group.

“The Wyld Hunters here!? You’re shitting me!” Mochire says nearly leaping out of his couch.

“...I feel a bit honoured that such celebrities are coming here to meet us.” Dexter replies after a few seconds of hesitation.

“Excuse me, but what are ‘the Wyld Hunters’?” Marina asks.

“Yes, explain for those of us who don’t know.” Wendy replies.

“The Wyld Hunters are typically Elite Dragonblooded that operate within the Wyld tainted areas of Creation, fighting against the Elemental forces that exist at their edge and serve as a bulwark to drive them out. Meruvia often ‘loans’ them out to countries in exchange for various diplomatic favors or resources.” Osvald replies as a spinning holograph map of the city appears in the center of the room, appearing from the center of Osvald’s eyes.

“I’ve heard of these guys. The five of them at once are enough to send shivers down the spines of any army in Creation. Please don’t tell me all five of them are here at once.” Mochire seems to plead.

“The other four appear to be busy right now, but we have confirmation that Dr. Amy Ledeel has just entered the military base from this morning.” Osvald says as the hologram shows a picture of what appears to be an older teenage woman with blue hair and a pointer on the map showing where she is in the military base near the docks.

“...I know of Dr. Ledeel. It’s said she came to Coral herself for martial arts training.” you reply. “One of the only people in the world who knows of the Air Dragon style.”
>>
[2/2]

“On top of her being an accomplished sorcerer, warhero, doctor, and poet.” Wendy adds in after. “The media doesn’t talk about her deployments much, but when she’s hope they constantly lap her up.”

“Yes, that’s true, which makes her a very formidable opponent.” Osvald explains. “While discovering the Sub Basement Eight doctor’s location, we cannot allow someone like Ledeel on the island, much less with her reuniting with her other companions.”

“Since you contacted us here, I assume you have a plan on dealing with this cutie.” Dexter asks.

“Several. One of the more direct options would be attempting to lure her out from the base to one of several key locations where a direct engagement with her would be beneficial to us.” Osvald explains.

“...And who is going to be the lure? That woman is known to nearly break the sound barrier by herself on foot, and I doubt she’s going to go after any Alchemical that appears in front of the base.” you explain.

“The bait would be you.” Osvald replies to you. “We know that the military has a heightened interest in you, that and since you are a Moonsilver and configured with speed boosting mechanisms, you are the best one for being able to outrun her.”

“Great.” you sarcastically reply.

“What are the locations you got in mind?” Wendy asks Osvald.

“The first would be a nearby construction yard for a building or a shipyard inspection area. It has lots of cover and metal objects which would attract some of her more powerful lightning based attacks.” Osvald states. “The other option would be luring her into a nearby building with narrow corridors, using the lack of space there as a way to heavily restrict her high mobility.”

“There’s a few other things I remember about Air Dragon style, or Ledeel in general. Air Dragon and Air aspects excel in stealth. If we encounter them on the battlefield we’re going to have to make sure that we’re not victims of sneak attacks.” you reply.

“So we need someone with an excellent sensory suite. Either Marina, Dexter, or I can do that task.” Wendy replies.

“Yes, Air Dragon’s are also extremely fast as previously mentioned. From what I’ve seen in the media, she’s capable of summoning a hurricane while it is in use, while the chakrams she holds in her hands are capable of throwing bolts of lightning at her opponents. She’s a dual fighter of sorts, against those who can only use melee she’ll close the gap but for those who like to use range she’ll attempt to get into their faces and cut them apart with electrified jade.” you reply.

“That hurricane isn’t martial arts actually, it's sorcery. I know because I use the same damn thing myself.” Mochire replies. “That hurricane is what gives her most of her speed. Take that away and she becomes considerably slower. If I have her in my sights I should be able to distort her spell and make it more of a hindrance rather than a benefit for her.”

“Even without it she’s still going to be incredibly fast.” you warn.

“But while inside of it she’ll be heavily resistant towards almost any ranged attack while having the speed to outrun melee users, I think our path here is pretty clear. Also that miniature Tornado isn’t the only thing she’ll have up her sleeve. If what I heard of her as a sorcerer is right she’ll be having elementals with her as bodyguards and assistants.” Dexter warns.

“Elementals? I thought they hated the Dragonblooded...” Marina asks.

“Think of Elementals like computers, if you make one yourself you can force it to be loyal to you for a year and a day. In this case she probably has a group of highly mobile elementals alongside her, probably air themed ones who are capable of dematerialization for maximum surprise factor.” Dexter warns.

“Do you have any way of counterspelling them?” Dexter asks.

“Sure I do, Marina herself has tons of counterspells against them.” Mochire replies.

“W-What!? R-Really!? But I’m not even a sorcerer!” Marina gasps in disbelief.

“Sorcery? No this is just bullets, shoot them in the head and elementals act just like anything else shot in the head.” Mochire replies.

Marina just gives Mochire a flat stare as he says that.

“Is there anything else you can do sorcery wise to aid us?” Wendy asks Mochire.

“I don’t know how to create my own Elementals, but even if I could summon them I wouldn’t be able to create an army at the snap of my finger. At most I could create a ward that would block the weaker elementals from entering an area. That would get the heat off our backs at least.” Mochire replies.
>>
[2/3]

“Another option would be to lure the Dragonblooded near a Gremlin infested area.” Osvald says highlighting a red area on his map. “We lure them into a pincer attack, and even if they do have superior numbers our own chances of victory could drastically increase.”

“Because that’ll never backfire on us.” Dexter snidely comments upon hearing that idea.

“Hold on for a second.” you say calling up Maggie on your phone.

“H-”

“Maggie we need your help.” you say immediately cutting her off.

“Well well well! Not even a friendly hello! Not even a ‘Gee sorry Maggie for cutting you off like a bitch last time!’?” Maggie retorts.

“I need information on Dr. Amy Ledeel, do you have any?” you ask.

“Dr. Amy Ledeel? As in the Dragonblooded ninja scientist? Of course I do, the public has always wanted to know more since her appearance in the 31 Days drama show. Gimme a second.” Maggie says as you can hear her shuffling around her room. “Yea, Dr. Amy Ledeel, Versino native. Explains why she came back home so fast.”

“What can you tell us about her?” you ask. “Something the general public doesn’t know about her.”

“Why should I even help you when you were acting like such a bitch to me be-”

“Tell us and we’ll give you the front row tickets to a massive fight scene involving her and us.” you immediately retort.

“What do you want to know my friend! I got everything including the porn she likes to watch!” Maggie replies.

“Anything we can use against her. Places she likes to visit, some dirt on her, personality traits generally unknown to the public.” you reply.

“The first major thing would be her own little secret family.” Maggie replies. “Seemed like one day she had a real hankering for some sausage, slept with one of her students, and one overseas trip later ‘mysteriously’ goes on extended leave and returns home with a ‘war orphan’. She threw the kid on her student, but pays them alimony like a good little girl, along with a bonus for him never to talk about it. As far as I know they’re still in a relationship away from the public eye.”

“That’s incredible. Thanks Maggie. We’ll contact you with the encounter information later.” you say hanging up.
>>
[3/3]

Dexter laughs to herself, clapping her hands. “That explains one of her ‘extended trips’ for a year!”

“It also grants us significant leverage. If we take the child and her lover as hostage things will become much easier.” Wendy says.

“No, this is not the right path. Dr. Ledeel may be our opponent, but I cannot abide by involving an innocent child in this ordeal, much less a baby.” Father Mercellius retorts.

“Yea! I really don’t want to harm Amy’s child in any possible way either! If the baby was harmed I could never live with myself!” Marina adds.

- “Father Marcellius is right. Our qualm is with Doctor Ledeel, not her secret family.”

- “The baby can stay out of this, but her secret lover on the other hand may prove useful to us.”

- “People see Samurai as honorable, but people forget that during the Sengoku period that abducting families were commonplace. She’s a major military commander, and we cannot afford to be soft.”

“Father Marcellius is right. Our qualm is with Doctor Ledeel, not her secret family.” you reply. “At best we could use the mention of her family as a critical distraction moment, but we need to show honor when we are shown none.”

“Your honor is going to get us all killed.” Wendy warns.

“Such a thing will be its own reward in the end, trust me Wendy.” Father Marcellius replies.

Wendy only gives a sigh, rubbing her palm with her forehead. “Mochire, how long would it take you to get setup on your end?”

“For either the electric dampener effect or the spirit ward, each of them is going to take me at least a few days. If I try to rush it any more than that then I’ll likely face the opposite effect.” Mochire states.

“If I may interjet, I can also apply my skills in this area.” Dexter comments. “I can infiltrate the base myself, disguising myself as an employee there in order to plant some sabotage.” Dexter replies.

“Like what kind of sabotage?” you ask.

“All depends on where I go. If I’m a mechanic I can make it so that manned vehicles are less likely to appear at the combat location. Or I can be a dispatcher and feed false information to the troops, or I could become a drone technician and when combat finally arrives we could have some unmanned drones on our side.” Dexter says leaning against the wall. “Any position I try to aim for is going to take some time to squeeze into, but I should be done by the time Mochire finishes erecting his wards. Trying to do both at the same time is going to be incredibly difficult.”

“Won’t they have thingies to detect Alchemicals though?” Marina asks.

“They will not be able to detect someone of either Dexter’s or Hibiki’s caliber at this point. However I strongly urge you to remain out of sight from Dr. Ledeel at all times.” Osvald warns.

“Even if I’m curious to what a Dragonblooded is like between the sheets, I’m not that stupid.” Dexter replies.

Select one from each section to enact the plan:

- Force encounter in building (Narrow space means Dr. Ledeel will have vastly more trouble keeping her distance from you)

- Force encounter in construction yard (Lots of metal means Dr. Ledeel’s stronger attacks will be drawn towards metal. Can stack with Mochire ward)

Choose Mochire’s Ward:

- Anti-Spirit ward (Dr. Ledeel can only bring in stronger elementals, forcing her to leave her elemental attack squad behind)

- Anti-Element Ward (Electrical attacks from both Dr. Ledeel and her elementals are weakened. Stacks with construction yard encounter)

Choose Dexter’s sabotage:

- Dispatch sabotage (Reduced footsoldier count at combat area)

- Mechanic sabotage (Reduced assault vehicles at combat area)

- Technician sabotage (Hacked attack drone assist [Such as Predator Drones])

“Just... go make a pizza cake or something.” you wave off to Marina before turning back towards the group. “Look, I’m the one in this group who knows the most about martial arts and most likely I’m going to be the one fighting Dr. Ledeel, so taking all of these factors into account I’m going to want to fight her in the construction yard. If we stack Mochire’s wards down there in addition to the metal that’s already there then that’ll render her most devastating attacks completely ineffectual.”

“It's going to be difficult to keep up with her.” Dexter warns.

“I’ll be depending on Mochire for that. Once her personal whirlwind is down than she’s going to be become a lot easier to approach.” you reply.

“You have any problems with this arrangement?” Wendy asks Osvald.

“None.” he calmly replies.

“Great, all that’s left now is to form the teams.” Father Marcellius replies. “We’ll need to be waiting for Hibiki once she’s finished luring Doctor Ledeel to the area.”

“We’re going to need as much power as we can in order to take down Dr. Ledeel. Marina, Father Marcellius, you two will join up with Hibiki once she meets up with us at the ship construction yard. Hibiki’s group will focus on primarily taking down Dr. Ledeel and her Dragonblooded escorts. The rest of us will focus on fighting off any other stragglers that try to interrupt the fight and provide support as needed.” Wendy declares.

“Um... S-Shouldn’t we be aiming for non-lethal takedowns? I-I mean these are just people here to destroy gremlins, so we shouldn’t be their targets.” Marina states.

“The military believes us to be gremlins as well.” Mochire replies.

“Mochire is correct, the military has no distinction between us and Apostates, orders for both kinds of Alchemicals are to neutralize on sight.” Osvald replies.

“What the hell do you expect us to us against them Marina? Harsh language?” Wendy retorts. “These are trained soldiers, and if a trained soldier was being told that he was going to fight against an opponent such as you, who can turn a person into a lump of charboiled hamburger meat in an instant, you better believe they’re going to open fire with everything they’ve got.”

“B-But...” Marina replies.

“We’re in a warzone Marina. We’re not here to make friends, it's either kill or be killed out here.” Wendy warns her.

“Wendy just means to find your own way is all Marina.” Father Marcellius says to her. “When it comes to dragonblooded or cyborgs don’t be afraid of holding back, both of them are very difficult to kill. Most full cyborgs can live two whole days with just their head. If you want to make sure people are left alive, than using unarmed tactics would be your best bet, or loading that shotgun you have with rubber bullets.”

“Trying to dispose of someone in a non-lethal manner with a normally lethal weapon is also more difficult. I can fight with my sheath on, but it becomes considerably more difficult as the weight, balance, and effectiveness of the weapon is reduced. I can still use it, but I definitely notice the issues when using it.” you reply.

“Which is a waste of time and effort because they’re going to be trying to kill us regardless of what happens.” Wendy replies.

“Being a merciful warrior comes with its own rewards.” Father Marcellius replies.

“Yes, but it comes down to either you or them, just protect yourself first and foremost. We’ll need everyone we can to escape from this damned island, and you’ll be no good to us dead.” Wendy replies before looking at Dexter. “Alright Dexter, head out immediately and begin your infiltration.”

Two days later it’s finally time to start the big plan. You can see the makeshift military base near the marina from your vantage point on top of a nearby building while cloaked Soldiers themselves can be seen working admist rows upon rows of various APC’s can be seen with spaces for the first tanks now being made way. A small runway can be seen for drones to be taking off into the air while a few helicopters are settled on top of the base, one of them just lifting off to head on off on patrol.

“Everyone in position?” Wendy asks.

“Ready and waiting.” you reply.

“We’re re- Marina what do you have there?” Father Marcellius asks.

“Twinkies! They had a vending machine full of them, so I took a few when the machine accidently toppled over!” Marina replies on the other end.

“Are you seriously stuffing your face before an operation?” Mochire asks.

“I get hungry when I’m nervous!” Marina retorts.

“All that junk food is going to make you fat. I’m going to be luring the soldiers to you shortly, so you better be ready by then.” you say as you cut off the radio transmission before looking down at the base.

“It's just a problem with the fuel cells. A quick swap and it’ll be good as new.” a mechanic says on the other side. “It’ll be up and running in 20.”

“You have 15. My squad needs to head out on patrol ASAP.” what you presume to be the commander says, dressed in urban camouflage tossing his keys towards the mechanics.

“Yea yea...” the mechanics themselves mutter as they turn around, heading towards the front of the APC.

As you walk against the wall of the base, staying out and away from the sight of any sort of drones, you casually approach the military commander with your sheathed blade in hand.

“Excuse me, I’ll be borrowing your APC.” you say to a surprised commander before knocking him across the head, immediately sending him spiraling towards the ground unconscious.

As you approach the APC itself, you can see one of the mechanics heading inside of the APC, just about to pull open a panel before you make your blade felt against your throat.

“The keys.” you simply demand as you raise your sword up ever so slightly.

The mechanic in front of you slowly, but ever so shakely starts to stand up, reaching into his jumpsuit pocket and pulling out what appears to be a small set of keys before dropping them on the ground in front of you.

You then remove your blade, grabbing the mechanic by the scruff of his collar and throw him out of the APC. “Now get out of here, I’m going for a ride.”

“G-GUARDS! AN APOSTATE’S IN THE APC!” the mechanic yells out as the rear hatch of the APC finishes closing shut around you.

“Alright, let’s see how this works.” you say climbing into the driver’s seat of the APC, surrounded by various LCD screens showing various readouts. As you push in the key and turn it on, several more screens turn on showing things such as weapon and hull status.

“INTRUDER! WE HAVE AN INTRUDER IN THE BASE!” the male voice over the intercom immediately begins to blare.

You give a small smile and wave towards the cockpit camera of the APC as you decloak, hoping that the camera feed in the base would have noticed you.

“...ATTENTION ALL BASE PERSONNEL, INTRUDER IN THE BASE HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED AS SHINOBI, TARGET PRIORITY A-1. ALL NON-ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL ARE TO IMMEDIATELY ASSIST.” The intercom then adds.

“Good to see that I’m a well known celebrity.” you say as you grasps the wheel, slamming the drive clutch into full gear immediately as the APC tires below you screech as you peel out.

You quickly turn a right on the APC as you slam the accelerator to the floor, ramming into a toolbox and sending the tools scattering across the floor as soldiers immediately begin to open fire on you. As you ram through the chain link fence rapid pangs can be heard in the APC as heavy caliber gunfire tears through the roof but overall leaving most of the vehicle intact.

“I barely see a thing!” you protest as you look at the three viewport windows around you, swerving around a pile of rope lying on the ground. “I can barely see a thing in here!”

As you check the rear view mirror quickly, you can see that the patrol helicopters are quickly turning around towards your APC, a small puff of smoke being spotted from one of their sides before you quickly make a hard right into the row of cargo containers, missiles impacting the cargo containers and sending millions of coffee beans soaring into the air.

“Straight there... Left here!” you say as you make another hard turn, the APC grinding up against the side of a cargo container before you press on.

As you glance up towards the sky in the back now, you can see a group of nearly three people surrounded by a tempest storm of winds, the pure white clouds seeming to carry them over the cargo containers and the gaps in between them like how a video game character simply runs over lesser gaps, the swirling clouds blocking a better view of them. Flanked on her own sides you can see multiple lightning bolts of electricity racing in between the metal cargo containers and rapidly approaching your position.

“They’re faster than the helicopters!” you gasp in amazement before you quickly look around the cockpit in a hurry. “I need to do something or they’ll catch up in no time...”

- Fire a TOW Missile at the cargo containers behind you, collapsing the wave and forcing them to take a longer way to catch up to you. (6d10 to hit, may add up to +6 dice for 6m [2 successes needed])

- Take a lesson from them. Use a TOW missile to blow open a cargo container and jump up to the top level to reach your destination faster (6d10, may add up to +4 dice for 4m)

- Head on out to an open area, lock a TOW missile onto your APC and then leap out of it just as it explodes, hopefully knocking the Dragonblooded group on their behinds and giving you a chance to run ahead (6d10 to hit, may add up to +6 dice for 6m)

Your right hands moves away in a flash from the clutch, activating the weapons touchscreen next to you. The turret on the APC slowly begins to turn around until its facing the back of the APC.

“This’ll slow you down!” you reply as you press the fire button, the missile can be heard soaring out from its tube and hitting the cargo containers behind you. A single explosion causes multicolored metal shards you erupt from the explosion point, thunderous sounds of crashing and banging heard as the other containers fall off from the top and begin to pile up down below.

The APC itself nearly topples over as you make a hard curve out of the cargo container, handling directly on a single side before settling down with a rough landing as you press the pedal to the metal once more. As you check in the rear view mirror the helicopters are high up in the air, and for a second you’re confused why they’re not firing before you see your answer, a white swirling cloud appear to be racing off the thick black smoke produced from the explosion from your missile. A light blue streak can be seen racing towards the ground before it impacts the road directly in front of your APC, the light blue mist rapidly dissipating before showing a thick sheet of ice now directly in place in front of your APC.

(“You bastard!”) you yell out as you see the icy trail in front of you. The blast took up a sizable section of road ahead of you and coated it with ice. If you fail to drive across that you may crash into the dock cranes, cargo containers, or worse into the water. However you can see the shipyard up ahead, so the home stretch is in reach.

- Charge through on the ice full speed ahead (Roll 6d10, may add up to +4 dice for 4m, need three successes)

- A ramp truck is up ahead, use the ramp truck to fly up on top of cargo containers in an effort to reach your location even faster (Roll 6d10, may add up to +4 dice for 4m, need three successes)

I agree with using the ramp. Fastest way possible if we fail we will still get where we want to go well a bit banged up but not cut off from support.

“Time to take the high road.” you say to yourself as you change gears, immediately veering off to the side towards a truck used to hold multiple vehicles. The sheer mass of the APC tears through the sides of the truck before you soar off of it and onto the upper levels of the cargo containers, your wheels skidding as you begin to run directly on top of the cargo containers.

As you gaze in the rear view mirror, you can see the helicopters now racing through the rising cloud of black smoke that the explosion left behind.

“...Where are the Dragonblooded?” you ask yourself in horror as you fail to see them in the rear view mirror.

Your question is answered by hearing a loud thunk on the APC roof, the APC window to the left of you exploding into shards as a wolf with bright blue fur sticks its muzzle inside of the APC window, electricity arcing in between its jaws and teeth.

(“Piss off mutt!”) you say taking out your sword and stabbing the gashing wolf directly in the face. The shipyard is now directly in front of you, a half completed cargo ship sitting in dry dock as scaffolds completely surround it.

You can hear the Dragonblooded on top of the APC, the topside hatch now straining under its own weight as it's slowly being pried open. The safe route is now appearing to be the most dangerous route, as the Dragonblooded will easily be in the APC before you manage to drive it down safely. You’re going to need to use plan B.

- Aim the APC directly towards the scaffolding of the ship and jump out of the rear hatch, letting the Dragonblooded crash into the scaffolding. (Roll 6d10, may add up to +4 dice for 4m, need three successes)

You slam on the accelerator, gunning for the large hole in the cargo ship still under construction.

The hatch near the back finally snaps open with a loud pang, a single man wearing white armour leaping down into the APC and pointing a gun directly towards the driver's seat. “Stop the vehicle, now!”

“Guess what I heard is true, Meruvian’s don’t wear seatbelts when travelling in fast vehicles.” you reply back as the APC flies off the cargo containers and soars through the air, immediately fastening your own seatbelt in response.

“Oh SHIT!” the man in white armour immediately replies, reaching for a nearby seat belt to grasp onto to.

The APC seems to almost float through the opening in the ship, just moments before you put yourself in a bracing position and the entire APC begins to violently buckle and tumble around the interior of the ship. Sounds of scraping metal, blaring alarm sounds, and crashing glass fill the cockpit of the APC as your body is shaken to the core. After what seems to be like minutes in chaos, the APC leans heavily to one side before toppling back upright once again, your body shaking slightly as you site back up in your position with a sigh.

“And mom said she didn’t want me driving after the accident...” you mutter to yourself as you remove your seatbelt.

You see the man in white armour slowly beginning to recollect himself from the rough landing, and seeing as you don’t want to fight a Dragonblooded in such tight spaces you immediately run over to the broken hatch and leap out of it.

“Hibiki! Are you alright!?” Marina calls out to you, her heavy footsteps echoing throughout the hull.

“Yea, my back is sore but I welcome any kind of feeling back there.” you say leaning your back so that it’d crack.

“We heard you driving from all the way over here.” Father Marcellius says with a chuckle as he follows closely behind Marina. “Did they follow you?”

“They were on top of the APC before I had to crash it here.” you reply. “Them, some kinda lightning dog, and a few he-”

“Watch out!” Marina says giving you a full force tackle to the ground. You can see your head just barely dodging a blast of electrified air pressure that cuts through a hanging chain in front of you with virtually no resistance of any sort.

“Such a shame, a half second later and that would’ve been your head.” a cold female voice rings out from above. As you and your group looks up, you can see what appears to be a young woman, appearing no older than you with light blue hair, wearing what appears to be a form of light blue camo patterned armour. Her entire body seems to crackle with electricity as she slowly appears from out of the air itself, floating down in a hurricane that houses one other Dragonblooded in black power armour brandishing what appears to be an oversized bazooka of very light brown but with a barrel that is encased in ice. As the duo lands from above, several lightning bolts crash around them, dogs of electricity crackling out of the lightning bolts, fur upright and sparking as they growl at you.

“...Dr. Ledeel I presume.” you reply to her.

“Shinobi... I was expecting to have to tear apart the city in order to find you, and here you come directly to us. I should thank you in saving us the effort.” The young woman with blue hair says, crossing the chakram’s in her hand quickly in order to make a sudden crash of electricity happen in front of her, a prideful look on her face as she then points a chakram towards you. “Tell me, what made you launch such a brazen attack on our base in the first place? Surely you realized that you wouldn’t be able to actually launch a successful offensive against us.”

- “I heard that you were in the neighbourhood. Doctor of physics and motonics, Sorcerer, Poet, War hero... But truth be told I just wanted to test my skills against one of the legendary Immaculates themselves, the wielder of the Air Dragon.”

- “Answers. The military is taking a special interest in me and I want to know why. I figured someone as influential as you would probably be the best starting point.”

- “I was looking just for a small joy ride, but it appears we found each other when the military was walking their dogs. Funny how I don’t see a leash on you.”

“I want answers, regarding the complex that was below Heptagram University as well as the military's interest in me. I assumed someone as influential as you would probably be the best starting point.” you reply.

Doctor chortles as she hears this. “Give any sort of information to the enemy!? Ha!”

“I have no problems getting the information one way or another.” you warn her.

“I regret to inform you Alchemical that your search has been in vain. I’ve been overseas for quite some time, and while I did work at the Heptagram myself the most information I’ve been given on you was all in the briefing. Though I do a bit of information about you yourself.” Doctor Ledeel says.

“And what information would that be?” you ask.

“Hibiki Junpaku, codename ‘Shinobi’. You were directly responsible for the Alchemical escape at the Heptagram itself, slaughtering nearly any soldier that got in your way.” Dr. Ledeel says. “I also heard you beat Backdraft while you were down there yourself. Quite the talented, but bloodthristy, martial artist.”

“Don’t tell me you’re here to gain revenge for Backdraft of all people.” you reply.

“Hardly, Backdraft was a skilled thug nothing more, a guard dog to keep you all in check. I’m in a different league compared to someone like him, so I hope you’re not going to disappoint me.” Dr. Ledeel says getting into a stance.

“That makes the two of us.” you reply as you slowly hunch down over on the ground.

“You two handle the Alchemical’s accomplices, this one’s mine.” Dr. Ledeel says as electricity slowly begins to crackle around her.

(Father Marcellius hits Raiju 1 for 15 withering damage! Father Marcellius has activated a defend other action on Hibiki!)

COMBAT TUTORIAL: Defend Other

Defend Other in an action which you can use on a beleaguered comrade while in combat, forcing an attacker to get through you before they can actually attack your ally. Even if they break your defense, your ally can still defend, so an opponent would need to break through two defense scores in order to actually land a successful hit on you! The main problem with Defend Other however is that it normally takes up your action, and unless one has special charms (like Father Marcellius has) then you cannot attack and use Defend Other at the same time.

“Tch! Raymond get rid of that Alchemical already!” Dr. Ledeel says as electricity slowly builds up around her again.

(Dr. Ledeel is taking an aiming action against Hibiki!)

“I’m trying but he’s very fast!” the Dragonblooded inside in the APC calls out, sweaving its main cannon towards Father Marcellius’s direction and begins to open fire, only for Father Marcellius to swat the projectiles out of the air with his fists as if they were flies.

A swipe from Father Marcellius forces the one charging at you, giving you much needed space to dodge the one that rains from the ceiling as a lightning bolt.

“Thanks Father!” you say immediately running off away from him as the Raiju are preoccupied with putting the fire in their fur out.

(Hibiki successfully disengaged from Raiju 2 and 3!)

“Hibiki wait!” Father Marcellius warns as you run off, before being forced to grab a Raiju by the neck and hurl it down towards the ground.

Dr. Ledeel seems surprised for a moment as you suddenly bolt towards her in a silver blur of speed, the Doctor barely having time to mount a defense before you thrust your duel katana’s in the middle of her chakram’s, retching them free from her hands and sending them soaring across the tanker, the two chakram’s clattering as the come to rest against a pair of scaffolding.

(Hibiki managed to successfully disarm Dr. Ledeel!)

Dr. Ledeel’s eyes go wide for a moment before narrowing her own eyes, her hands beginning to crackle with electricity as he own hands turn into blue bolts of electricity crashing towards your head. Approaching with such speed that you barely have time to cross your blades in defense as you’re pushed back slightly from the assault.

“Unlike you, my weapon is a focus, not at key!” Dr. Ledeel laughs as she is immediately carried back by the blast of air pressure against you, sailing towards her weapons in the corner, or own image blurring away like a ghost before she rematerializes back towards the scaffolding.

(Dr. Ledeel attacks Hibiki for 2 initiative damage and manages to successfully disengage!)

“Interesting to see that we both have something in common with ghosts.” you say to her as you begin to race towards her again, leaping over the charge of the Raiju rushing towards you just as the ground below you turns into a solid sheet of ice.

(Raiju 1 moves close to Hibiki, attacking Hibiki and misses! Raiju 2 and 3 failed to disengage from Father Marcellius!)

Just as you land back onto your feet, you can feel the entire ship lurch to the side briefly, rattling as you can feel the huge bulk of the ship begin to slowly shift its weight.

As dangerous as Dr. Ledeel’s pets are, you can’t let them forever harass and stall you over and over again. Rushing towards the lone wolf ahead of you with blades in hand, your fient out the wolf by doing a dive with your copies, the electrical beast snapping at your afterimages just as you arrive at his side, exploding into flame as you lift off into the air before reversing the grip on your blades, plunging the twin blades directly into the creatures head just as your afterimages mimic your rise upwards, slicing the Raiju’s stomach wide open. The mighty lightning wolf gives a screech of pain like a pained crack of electricity before dissolving like a cloud itself.

(Hibiki attacks Raiju 1 for 17 withering damage, crashing it! She then immediately uses Steel Devil Strike to immediately make a decisive attack for 10 lethal damage, killing Raiju 1!)

“You’re not getting away from me Ledeel!” you cry out, rushing down the slope of the ship just as it begins to fall, a seething ball of flame barreling towards Ledeel as barrels begin to collapse down the side of the ship. The Doctor herself forced to back away from the chakram’s nearby at your own feet as you land in front of her.

(Hibiki is blocking Doctor Ledeel from her primary weapon!)

“Then become buried alive!” the Doctor Ledeel yells out before she takes her hands and brings them forth for a simple clap, air blasts out in front of you as if a bomb was blown up directly in your face, sending you hurtling back through the scaffholding itself. Your ears have a dull ringing sensation as slowly sit back up, Ledeel’s own chakram’s laying down atop your chest as you attempt to stand back up.

(Hibiki resisted the sonic blast of Doctor Ledeel’s own attack!)

As you gaze back up, rows of barrels and other construction equipment raining down on the toppling ship, Ledeel can be seen charging a crackling bolt of electricity in her hand.

“No ward is going help you if you’re on top of what is basically a gigantic lightning rod! Goodbye Shinobi!” Ledeel cries out as massive bolts of electricity fly from her hand, arcing towards all of the metallic objects racing towards you and in between the scaffolding you’re currently on, the black clouds surrounding the Doctor rapidly inflating in size to obscure nearly your entire vision of her up above.

Your eyes glance down towards the chakram’s at your feet. “A trail by fire using any other name...”

Taking one of the few precious seconds you have to grab Ledeel’s own chakram’s and focus your spiritual energy inwards, you let your breath mix with the air swirling around you. Knowing that every passage of wind, from the smallest breeze to the strongest tempest tells the truth of the world all around it. If one learns how to process this information, what the wind is actually saying, than you can realize all the truth in the world around you. That is the message the Dragon of the Wind teaches to its pupils, and that is the lesson that you now know yourself.

Putting the chakram’s on the side of your hips you close your eyes and open your faceplate. Entrusting your senses to your hearing and feeling of the wind alone. You quickly leap up from the broken scaffolding you’re on, running not only along the ground itself but leaping between each falling object that roars crashing down towards the ground below. Leaping past the snapping jaws of the Raiju as they leap out of the metallic objects in order to lunge at you before diving into the dark clouds surrounding Doctor Ledeel herself, crossing your blades as you enter the storm and unfurling them at just right moment directly at the Doctor herself.

(Hibiki attacks Dr. Ledeel dealing 9 initiative damage!)

Doctor barely manages to pull herself off the chain in time as you slice directly through it, a sudden blast of wind and bolt of electricity carrying off to float in midair next to you. “S-Sight of the Air Dragon!? How!? A machine should never be able to learn such a thing!” Doctor Ledeel roars in shock.

“The machine doesn’t learn it Doctor, but rather the human soul itself does.” you reply as you point your fiery blade towards the Doctor, your eyes remaining closed. “You had me on the ropes for a few seconds, but now you’ve already lost.”

The storm around Ledeel intensifies all over again, thick black storm clouds roiling around her as small arcs of lightning bank off them and towards the floating chains nearby, her own blue air floating up in the air behind her. “I am not going to be beaten by a machine who is capable of mimicking my every move!”

With a final exchange of words both you and Dr. Ledeel crash into one another once again, the sound of thunder only overpowered by the sound of collapsing ship on its side as your blows connect with one another in the stormcloud itself.

(Hibiki attacks Dr. Ledeel and deals 4 withering damage!)

Both of you pull back from the stormcloud just as an I-Beam falls in between you both, Doctor Ledeel’s cold sweat breaking off in small ice pieces as she stands on a cloud in midair. You yourself have managed to place yourself directly into the eye of the storm, unflappable as you remain focused at the battle at hand.

“Take this!” Marina shouts from nearby, firing a shot from the bazooka the Dragonblooded from earlier had, a trail of light blue mist trailing from the weapon before it directly impacts side of Dr. Ledeel herself, the massive cold front of air immediately displacing the storm and leaving Dr. Ledeel herself leaping out from the blast, frostbitten flesh just as evident on her face as her own desperation.

(Marina has finished up her opponent and has joined your battle! Marina deals 6 withering damage to Dr. Ledeel, crashing her!)

“Goodbye Ledeel.” you say before exploding in speed towards her, your blades trailing along the ground in preparation for an uppercut before the entire ship begins to buckle and shake, the outer hull sounding as if the entire thing is crashing in on itself.

Your final uppercut goes shallow, just barely grazing Ledeel’s cheek before she floats away from you, her entire body seeming to phase out of reality then back in a good dozen or meters away from you.

(Hibiki attacks Dr. Ledeel and misses! Fatal Stroke Flash causes Hibiki’s initiative to plunge to -4i, crashing her!)

Dr. Ledeel gasps for air on top of the opening in the cargo freighter, looking down at you as she does so. “Next time Junpaku... I’m coming back with the rest of my unit.”

“Get back here!” you yell out to her as you prepare yourself to jump.

“Hibiki we don’t have time! This entire thing is about to collapse! We need to get out of here!” Father Marcellius warns you as he climbs out from under the APC.

“Tch!” you mutter to yourself as you put away your swords, running towards Father Marcellius and picking up the Kaze no Ken along the way to both.

“W-Where do we go!?” Marina states in a panic. “The military will gun us down if we try to head out on the surface! Our anima’s can be seen for miles!”

“Osvald always puts careful attention to detail in his plans.” Father Marcellius replies to her, vents opening up on his arm before he punches a hole directly in the hull that seems to lead down towards a small service tunnel in the construction yard itself. “There’s a sewer down this way, we’ll escape in there, now hurry!”

You, Marina, and Father Marcellius quickly run into the service tunnel and over to a nearby grating leading to the sewer. After Marina tears the grating off all of you dive into the waters of the sewer below, sinking down to the bottom of the greenish sludge against its current, nearly running along underneath the water before finally a thunderous crash can be felt by every fiber of your being as the ship’s hull collapses in on itself.

“Father, is your team alright?” Wendy calls in on the other line.

“It was a close call, but we’re all fine.” Father Marcellius says crawls out of the sewer water, helping you up as well.

“Uwa... I thought we were gonna be buried under that ship when it toppled over!” Marina states as she climbs out of the sewer water.

“Yea my bad, a missile I dodged from a helicopter struck one of the holding anchors.” Mochire replies.

“I also saw Dr. Ledeel escaping the cargo hold.” Wendy states on the other end of the line.

“It was very hectic in there, we nearly had her before the hull started to collapse.” Father Marcellius replies.

Wendy gives a small sigh on the other end. “Pity... Take a small rest until your anima’s die down then head back to the hotel. We’ll discuss our next plan of action there.”

“Right, take care Wendy.” Father Marcellius says exiting the call.

“...Hibiki, are you alright?” Marina asks slowly approaching you. “...You’ve been silent and staring at that wall the entire time...”

Saying you’re a bit... displeased that Dr. Ledeel escaped is one way of naming your current moodset.

- “I had her... I had her but I let her get away at the last possible moment!”

“I had her, Marina. It was like every swing I made was wrong. Like I should have just.. just taken her damn mutts before going after her. I failed the entire point of this mission, and now Ledeel and her company are going to come back to haunt us later.” you say to yourself as you clutch the side of a nearby pipe hard enough that the metal bends in your hand.

“You’re too young to be worrying about such things Marina.” Father Marcellius says next to you.

“What!?” you say turning around towards him.

“Marina I watched you battle. Throughout the entire fight you were constantly giving it everything you had, and only at the last second did everything start to fall apart. An attack you missed because the entire ship was starting to fall apart.” Father Marcellius says to you.

“Y-Yea! I mean you did the best you could! That Doctor was a lot better than I thought she’d be!” Marina states trying to cheer you up.

“...8 out of 10.” you mutter to yourself.

“Pardon?” Hibiki asks.

“Nothing.” you quickly clarify. “What I’m saying is that I said I’d handle the mission and now I failed. I’m going to have to explain this, explain to everyone how I let them down.”

“Hibiki you heard Wendy on the other end of that line as well. She didn’t sound angry at all, none of us are angry at you when we all followed the plan as best as we could but still came up short.” Father Marcellius says walking over to you, placing his hand on your shoulder. “Rest assured we’ll see Doctor Ledeel once again, but this time you’ll be stronger in the next encounter and know what to expect.”

“Yea, plus I managed to knock out one her friends so now I have this awesome bazooka that can be used to chill ice cream as well!” Marina says holding up the Bazooka she gained as a trophy.

You simply glance at Marina for a few moments before sitting back up with a sigh.

(“Tell me, you’re also jealous that Marina managed to beat her opponent while Doctor Ledeel got away from you aren’t you?”) Father Marcellius texts to you.

(“No comment.”) you bitterly reply. “Let’s just head back to base...”

ADA recommendations:
Recommended Normal XP Purchases

- Accelerated Response System Submodule “Live Wire Writhing”: When Accelerated Response System is used and the enemy matches your defense, the attack misses. (Normally it would hit) (6 XP)

- Accelerated Response System Submodule “Parry Configuration”: Accelerated Response System and Celerity Enabling Module now works with parry in addition to dodge. Unlocks new charms to learn. (6 XP)

- Optical Shroud Submodule “Dynamic Cloaking Module”: Able to move at much faster speeds while cloaked, extending the range one can move while cloaked (Slow speed -> Normal Movement -> Running speed -> Any distance), in addition each additional purchase lowers the penalty of moving while cloaked by 1 (3 XP each)

- Optical Shroud submodule “Sense Countering Upgrades”: Firmware updates and layers of sound absorbing material make the sounds that come from normal operation produce far less sound overall. This third and final installation of this submodule renders the Alchemical immune to all exotic forms of sight [EX: Thermal, X-Ray, etc...] unless they come from a supernatural based source (4 XP per purchase, Essence 3 means it will need to go into a Overdrive slot)

- Omnitool Implant Submodule “Advanced Lockpicking Toolkit”: The Omnitool implant gains a series of tools that allow it to open nearly any sort of door. First an Alchemical never has to damage a door to open it. Mundane doors are automatically opened without need for a roll while against magical doors the Alchemical may always at least try. (6 XP)

- Charm “Impact Dispersion Module”: Gain (Essence or 3, whichever is higher) Additional soak against withering attack or four hardness against decisive attacks. Basically you gain a small toughness boost. (6 XP, 10 with slot)

- Charm “Stormwall Interrupter Circuits”: By paying 2WP, the Alchemical is able to completely shed his anima, allowing possible reuse of stealth. After the first time it is used in a scene this charm only costs 1WP

- Charm “Parabolic Leap Overcharger Device”: Able to make larger jumping distances trivially and without the need to roll, automatically parkour over hazardous terrain. (STRENGTH 3 REQUIRED) (10 XP including slot)

- Charm “Optical Enhancement”: The Alchemical’s eyes are replaced with a high functional optical sensory suite, allowing everything from zooming into microscopic objects, zooming in hundreds of times off in the distance, recording everything the Alchemical experiences, X-Ray/Thermal/UV vision and more depending on the submodules installed (10 XP including slot)

Recommended Alchemical XP Purchases

- Strength Up (5 XP per dot, maximum 5)

- Perception/Wits Up (4 XP per dot, maximum 5)

- Presence (3 XP per dot, maximum 5)

- Athletics (3 XP per dot, maximum 5)

- Dodge (3 XP per dot, maximum 5) [Suggested for Air Dragon style]

- Single Point Style “Void Slicing Wind” (8 XP): Automatically travel up to medium range in order to slash your enemy. If both Hibiki and her sword goes at once, a special version is used where she not only travels to smack an enemy, but attacks literally every single opponent in a line on the way there.

- Single Point Style "Blinding Nova Flare" (8 XP): Make a gambit upon your opponent where if successful, the next decisive attack you make cannot be blocked or dodged! Costs nothing to use! Shining point capstone! [Requires Void Slicing Wind]

- Steel Devil Style “Triple Attack Technique” (8 XP): Upgrades Double Attack Technique, where if you gain enough successes over the opponent's defense the damage of your attack has the potential to greatly increase.
Steel Devil Style “Dual Slaying Stance” (8 XP): Steel Devil’s style second stance, focused more on defense than offense. Increases your defense by +2 and whenever you are attacked, you may automatically counterattack with a decisive attack with a damage value equal to your current charge, and may add up to (Motonic Reservoir stage x2) additional initiative as bonus damage.

- Air Dragon Style “Breath Seizing Technique” (8 XP): Steal the very breath of life from the opponent themselves. If an attack does a certain amount of damage than the opponent is faced with a penalty to all actions which can be stacked. If this penalty is higher than the opponents stamina then they begin to suffocate until they pass out. Alchemical opponents are immune to suffocation, but the penalty still remains with them.

- Air Dragon Style “Shrouding the Body and Mind” (8 XP): Become invisible so long as you are moving, heavily penalizing any sight or hearing based roll to find you (even magical ones).

- Air Dragon Style “Air Dragon Form” (8 XP): Surround yourself with a small personal tempest, providing small boosts to your speed and dodge. All attacks are wreathed in electricity slightly increasing damage, unarmed attacks can be made out to short range while any attacks using Chakram’s turn all aim dice into automatic successes. [Requires Breath Seizing Technique and Shrouding the Body and Mind]

"I am the Soul of my Sword..." is also another mission which can be done before a 'main core' mission of sorts.

You can pick one or the other, then either the Scientists, Millionaire, or the Doctor is In.

...Unless you also want to tag the Father Marcellius side mission for a triple threat of side missions for the next thread.

The enemies in each mission will get stronger and more numerous the longer you put them off. But unless you do something somehow that makes one of the missions pointless (Like blow up the entire bank somehow) than most missions are not time sensitive unless noted.
