You are Paxious Dromus, a Zabrak from some backwater farm world near Iridonia who just so happened to be a force sensitive. You've been shipped off to Tython where you will hopefully become a Jedi.

You are currently being evaluated by the Jedi Master Sarif Retsma, a kindly old man you met on the transport to Tython who believes the best way to evaluate students is to swing a lightsaber at them.

Speaking of which, he’s currently directly in front of you with his yellow blade raised high above his head. It looks like Master Retsma is testing your ability to not get cut in half. An important skill for any Jedi.

What will you do?

>Jump to the side.
>Tackle him! He can’t finish the strike if you knock the wind out of him!
>Raise your sword to block the strike.
>Write-in

So things might be slow moving tonight because my college decided to block /qst/ because they thought people didn't equate them with Nazis enough. I'm typing stuff out on Google drive and pasting it with my phone.

Sounds like he is striking down vertically, if he swing across horizontally it'll get the blade away from us, which is the point in deflecting a blade. It also puts in a position to counter with a punch or shove or something.

Master Retsma begins his downward swing. For a moment, your life flashes before your eyes. Then, you remember your father teaching you swordsmanship. Something clicks, and you’re full of focus. Centering yourself, you strike as hard as you can to the right, hoping to intercept the blow.

You succeed and manage to knock the saber to the side. A slight gasp comes from the crowd of your peers. You hear the Miraluka ask, "What's happening? Is he dead?"

Master Retsma is stunned, if only for a second. You now have an opening for an attack.

What will you do?

>Go for a quick stab.
>Swing hard and hit him hard!

Good solid tap (punch) on the shoulder. This is practice and we don't want to seem like we don't know how to restrain ourselves. We show that we know this is training, but that we know when to hit.

You jab your blade forward as quick as you can, aiming for Master Retsma’s shoulder. In an attempt to counter, Retsma starts to swing his blade forward only for your strike at his shoulder to cut him short.

“No way!” a voice from the crowd yells.
You’ve just managed to hit a Jedi Master.

In your elation, you try to lower your arm, but realize that the blade is stuck. At first, you’re afraid it’s stuck in Master Retsma’s shoulder, but then, you realize, Master Retsma has backed up a foot away from the blade. It is fixed firmly in the air and you seem to be unable to move it.

Retsma looks at you and smiles, “Wonderful job there, Paxious. I’m going to recommend that you skip the beginner blade classes and go straight into an intermediate one. Oh, and whoever the Miraluka is,” he says, turning to the crowd, “You’ve just gotten yourself out of the next test.”

Retsma turns to face you again.

“You’re done for right now, Paxious. You can go take a rest.”

What do you say?

>”Thank you, Master.”
>”How's the shoulder?"
>”Next time, I won’t go easy on you.”
>”I always figured attacking students on the first day was more of a sith thing.”

Thank you, Master,” you say with a slight bow, adding, “How’s the shoulder?”

“Well, considering how dull the vibroblade is, bruised,” he says to you with a smile.

Speaking of the vibroblade, you watch it float slowly into Master Retsma’s free hand.

“You! Stocky boy in the front! You’re next!” says Master Retsma as you leave the circle.

“I’m a girl,” says the frowning girl who, in Master Retsma’s defense, does have a very boyish haircut.

You go off and look for the Miraluka boy. He doesn’t seem to be anywhere among the crowd. You look for a while before sighting him just outside the group, sitting under a tree. He is sitting in a meditating position and doesn’t wrinkles his nose slightly as you approach.

What do you say?

>”Hey, thanks for the help.”
>”Man, Tython looks beautiful this time of year...wait...shit, I’m sure it sounds beautiful too.”
>”So, seems like you’ve got some talent.”
>Leave him alone. He probably doesn’t want to be bothered.

I would like for us to not play a character who takes "inspiration" from another character. We should just be our own dude.

I swear if I see another Gutsclone I am going to lose my shit all over this floor

To be fair, Xanth is not a guts lone, not anymore. He's still a psycho though.
>>
>>730100
Oh shit, that vote was tied and I totally miscounted. My bad.
>>
>>730125
No worries.
>>
>>730097
I don't mean it as a take inspiration thing and I half meant the "buck the trend" bit as a joke but I, for one, would like to make a more force oriented character, no neglect for saber technique intended. I just want to see something different.
>>
>>730145
Recently played KOTOR 2 as a conselor and holy fuck man. By the end, I killed Kreia with like a couple Force Lightnings and I couldn't deplete my force points at all even if I tried.
>>
Okay votes are in.
>>
“Hey, thanks for the help,” you say to him.

You’re not really sure if he even heard you at first and you’re about to walk away when you hear a small snore from him.

He’s asleep. His head starts to sag ever so slightly from the meditation position.

What do you do?

You have no idea how he could be napping right now, but you choose not to wake him. You decide to go mingle with the other students.

As soon as you enter the crowd, you run into the back of what feels like a brick wall. The brick wall turns around to reveal itself to be a human man, towering over you and nearly as wide as he is tall. His skin is olive toned and his face seems to be stuck in a permanent frown. He looks at you though and slowly turns his frown into a crooked smile. He stands there, smiling at you for a moment.

What do you do?

What you'll come to find comrade is that players will make a character fit a mold, or just associate you MC with a character due to the most basic resemblances. Like being a good fighter and having a creepy murder smile. Not to say I didn't embrace it a little at first, but yea.
>>
>>730538
It triggers me a little bit when people vote to smile just because it's been so overdone and it seems like some players almost jerk off every time it happens

“Uh..hi..” you say with uncertainty, looking up at the giant mass of person in front of you.

“You’re the spike-head that stabbed the Jedi Master!” says the giant with an uncharacteristically childish voice considering his appearance.

“Hey, you can’t call him spike head! That’s offensive!” says a blonde haired girl to your right.

The giant looks to the ground and rubs his head, “Oh, sorry. I didn’t mean to be offensive, I was just gonna say that it was cool and good job and stuff.”

You extend a reassuring hand to him, “I’m Paxious. Nice to meet you.”

“I’m Jorraan,” he says, smiling again as he shakes your hand.

You wince as he nearly crushes your hand.

“What was fighting a Jedi Master like?” Jorraan says, a look on his face like an excited gizka.

>”Oh, it was a piece of cake.”
>”Scary. Scary as hell.”

You think about the moment before you struck Retsma’s shoulder, when he was right on top of you, about to strike. You shudder.

“Scary. Scary as hell,” you say.

Jorraan nods, his eyes transfixed on you in awe.

You go on, “It was like fighting a hurricane. There was no stopping him.”

A bit of fear seems to seep into Jarraan’s look.

“But,” you say with a hint of a smile on your lips, “I’ve got to admit, it was kinda fun. Standing up against an unbeatable foe, against a literal legend, and just standing my ground, it was incredible.”

Jorraan smiles like a little kid, “I can’t wait for my turn!” he says.

“My family,” he goes on, “are all great warriors and I finally have a chance to prove myself and become a great Jedi Warrior.”

Jorraan looks off into the sky, as if his ancestors are sitting in the clouds watching him.

“Why do you want to be a Jedi, Paxious?” he says.

Before you have time to answer, Master Retsma yells, “You, big fellow! Are you sure you’re a Force Sensitive and didn’t just eat one? Your turn! Show me you can use that mass of yours!”

Jorraan jumps in the air and actually clicks his heels together, giving off a small high-pitched squeal of joy before shaking the ground as he returns to it. He grabs the sword and wields it as if it were a knife.

Master Retsma takes a few steps back and points his yellow lightsaber at Jorraan.

“Whenever you’re ready,” he says, looking completely calm.

Jorraan charges with a yell.
