>Reason for Celebration Edition

You were not but a humble maid for a fanciful estate in Almace, but alas you were cast out!

Escaping a fate most terrible, you found help along the way, starting out with barely rags on your back, to now a tenuous member of the (very) lower middle class. By the grace of God, fate, or perhaps just luck, your life has changed dramatically in the last year and may yet change still. Something which brings fear as much as anticipation.

If only this world were so openly tolerant.

Anyway so like last thread, you get the choice of resuming play as either Alicia temporarily, or Mags. As some point Alicia deserves a bit, your choice just when.
>>

Lets go with Mags, we'll play as Alicia after the Fire Eve/Night of Pyres

Mags.

I'm curious about the award ceremony mags is getting.

Ok Mags it is, will resume with her when play continues, probably tomorrow morning-ish.

Take your time
>>
>tfw you have a quest to run but you get murdered and replaced by a CIA spook who isn't very good at impersonating you, and spent a bunch of time playing Civ 6 instead

Mags (you!) had a pretty busy weekend, including winning a magic duel, sorting out some relationships and pursuing the vampire menace. However, with skill and luck you emerged victorious, and gained the thanks and admiration of some of the local populace, and among other things are supposed to be rewarded. After a fest mind you, of the culture from Aea and Vela's home country.

That is of course, after progressing through the remainder of the school week. You've just finished out the second day of class.

Holy Shit OP, you had me worried, thought something happened to you

Anyways

Hang out with Lisbeth, ask her about her opinion on having two moms
>>
>>748862
Welcome back OP
Ask Lisbeth how her studies on magic are going.
Since we're a basic spell pro we could tutor her.
Also check her aura and how her individual aura is different than others.
Then right it down.
The properties of it might be important
>>
>>748879
Something did happen to me, I got Civ 6.

After your personal studies you find Lisbeth, playing with a new doll. She says he likes you when you sit down with her, and takes to translating his "whispering" into her ear.

>two moms

what the jej?

>>748903
Her magic studies are going decently well, she's a level below you but she likes the idea of you teaching her. However it occurs to you that teaching her may be hard since your sources of magic are different and you'd probably not make a good teacher. You do check her aura though, it's the swirling sort, typical of someone who is naturally just gifted in magic. It's more prominent that most folks so maybe the stars or gods took a shine to her, but that would explain why as an orphaned peasant girl, she was still taken into the sponsorship program.
>>
>>748924
I gtg OP, im sick as fuck and i need to get my fever down

Later bby
>>748903
U keep going bby
>>
>>748924
>More prominent than most
She has talent!
She might be able to go places!
Tell her this. Maybe It'll encourage her.
>>
>>748937
You tell her that and while it encourages her that you think highly of her, makes her happy, she comes to let you know that she's already aware of that and said it's why she's kept around in the first place. Otherwise they'd have just removed her after Jane took hostile to her.
>>
>>748952
Wait.
Ask her what she plans to do after she's finished with schooling.
>>
>>748961
She hasn't given that a lot of thought, but hopes to find a nice man, get married and have a family. She assumes she'll end up providing magic assistance for some time after she gets out of school, but hopes it doesn't impact her ability to get married.
>>
>>748985
Good for her.
I guess.
If she's happy she's happy.
Hopefully we can stay in contact with her.
Let's ask her how her weeks here have been going.
>>
>>748990
You know it likely to be the faith in part speaking through her. A strong encouragement for girls to find and devote oneself to a man, and support and provide him with children and always defer to him. Though who are you to judge, you'd honestly be perfectly happy with the same thing.

She hopes at least though to always remain in contact with you of course. You ask her how time's been, she speaks to the usual difficulty with her roommate, now more than usual because of it being known that the two of you are close. She also talks about difficulty at learning Eslen, and feels bad for it and prays often and always makes sure to try and make up for it and pay attention when the girls go to church.

She's herself, curious about your time away and hopes it went well for you.
>>
>>748999
>Our time away
Fought bandits.
Found treasure
Successfully escaped gypsies that wanted me to get married to the Gypsy king. I said no.
And came back here and hunted a vampire.
>>
>>749017
That's all quite exciting to her, even just to hear, and she's obviously amazed by your exploits. It probably makes sense, since her life is within these walls, and without friends.
>>
>>749039
Yep adventuring is serious. But fun at times and can be rewarding in it's own way. I might just wander the lands helping people. It'd feel wrong to just waste this power and not help anyone. Cause then it's just worthless
>>
>>749043
That seems too dangerous to her thinking, but she wishes you well if you intend to follow that lifestyle, and as usual she'll pray for you and help in any way she can.
>>
>>749072
>Too dangerous to her thinking
That's fair.
But there can be no great accomplishment without risk
Anyways we should leave the school grounds and find lisbeth her new family.
Bid Lisbeth farewell.
>>
>>749086
You say goodbye to Lisbeth for now, she gives you a hug and a kiss to see you off, and suggests you take the doll for support.

Can we eventually Imbue them with childlike intelligence and some form of communication?

Anyways let's commence searching for potential parents for Lisbeth.
>>
>>749146
Indeed you can, some other students have similar creations. Eliza for example, has an animated broom that does her chores for her and also functions as a basic clock and calendar.

As for parents, do you randomly want to start looking just anywhere, or from the people you know or are familiar with?
>>
>>749182
Let's start by asking around with the people we know. Anyone that wants to adopt or knows someone that does.
>>
My internet is being really spotty for some reason.

>>749186
Asking the people you know isn't much a success you find since they're all single pretty much. Some of them are not opposed to marrying (even each other) as was required for adoption of Lisbeth, but you'd need to make a good case to them for it, and for the girl.

If you want you could also try asking to people you know, if they know possible parents/couples. Roll for that if it interests you.

Julien's older sister maybe could adopt Lisbeth. Though she's not in the capitol and he can't say for sure if she'd be able to.

Check for auras on the children.
I'm curious.

>>
>>749653
Orphanages don't exist at this time, it's a church-handled issue. If you like though you can visit one of the nearby parochial buildings and see the children there.

As many as you might expect to see in the care of the church though, you know that many, many more are living on the streets.

>>749853

>>
>>749998
Yusssss
Lets go back to school and give Lisbeth the good news
>>
>>750023
That's not exactly news since Charles only says there's a good chance, but you can tell Lisbeth if you want. Might get her hopes up for nothing though.
>>
>>750061
:/
Then let's just go back to school, hang out with with our friends

Also how long until the Fire Eve?
>>
>>750085
It's only been two days roughly, so still almost two weeks. It's about 4 days till the fest, and then a week after that.

Anything in particular on your mind for hanging out? One thing in particular that you get stopped by Tia, the half-troll. You've never really spoken to her and you're not sure if you've ever heard her talk before at all, but she says in admittedly simple speaking that she heard you beat David the tarrasque-descended in a duel and good for you, she respects you for that. You get some inkling that she doesn't much like David and something happened in the past.
>>
>>750100

>>
>>751476
And now disgust kicks in.
If we actually stay here long enough to see the 21st century we will have so much shit to talk about Almace.
>>
>>751484
To be fair, a faeborn child wouldn't be able to live in or around a church in the first place.

>>751480
>43

You have to go to a few, and go through the steps of wanting to see the children, like meeting with the priest or nun charged with their care, and making a donation and whatnot. But you manage to locate with your eyes, three children whom plainly have magic potential, and one whom has a pulsing aura like your own. The other two are the usual swirl.

>What do you want to do?
>>
>>751498
Focus on it and see if we can discern a color

>>
>>751498

>>

Pulsing means inherited magic rather than naturally magical.

At any rate you go talk to the child, a young lad who doesn't like your eyes and reserved towards you.

>>
>>751525
That's sensible, probably breakdown like;

>100-90 = Parent
>89-69 = Grandparent
>68-38 = Great Grandparent
>37-0 = Distant Relative

So the boy's grandparent was a magical entity. Not phoenix though, too powerful.
>>
>>751538
Aw man

>>751525
Dragon?
>>
>>751538
What about a caladrius?
It's a white bird of regular size.
It has healing power but only of diseases.
It can't heal from wounds super fast or be immortal. So outside of healing any pathogens and the ability to cast magic they're basically still a human.
>>751546
Too powerful m8
>>
>>751546
That's not too powerful, but supposed to be rarer than that. The odds of you just randomly searching an orphanage and finding a child like that are stupidly low. Not to mention the boy would have been scooped up at some point if that were the case.

>>751556
That's possible if you guys want that sure.
>>
>>751556
This is cool too
>>
>>751564
I'm for it.
plus they can cure Alicia's lycanthropy.

Would we even know what kind of magical creature they are?
>>
>>751569
Nope, you have no way of knowing and neither would the child.

Also, the kid wouldn't be able to have the full benefits of his ancestry, and unlike you he can't further become like his ancestor. The extent of his benefits are probably just that he's immune to diseases and such, and of course the ability to perform magic.
>>
>>751583
The ingredients he could give to Alicia would cure her
Right?
>>
>>751583
That's still good actually.
and maybe Alicia can experiment with their hair.
Because basically they have magic in their blood that auto cock blocks every illness.
But before we lock in I'm going to look at more mythical creatures.
>>
>>751591
Only maaaybe if he were a half one. Alicia's disease is magical.

>>751595
That's fair for sure, she might be able to do something at least against normal diseases.

You can keep looking though, and whatever you settle on is fine. You can also go Eastern with your choices since travel between the Orient is frequent and possible in this century. Probably not New World though.
>>
>>751583
Feng Huang-He would probably the ability to control and command birds.
Devil Bird-Predict when someone will die or is close to dieing? Like future prediction of only death.
Raiju(lightning cat)- Affinity to lightning shit and probably an innate ability for a lightning aura spell since the creature has one.
Basilisk- I don't know. Can cause problems physical harm by willing harm upon someone while staring at them for a specified amount of time?

This is all I got so far.
>>
>>751625
Choices choices!
>>
>>751631
Also Alicia's disease is some unholy magic pathogen?
This universe is shitty.
Anyways if the blood of a weird magic bird won't cure her guess Alicia will just have to git gud at alchemy.

I'm for the Raiju because lightning shit is cool.
>>
>>751639
Not unholy, just a magic blood born disease. No normal disease is going to make someone quickly metamorphosize into a wolf in a matter of minutes.

>git gud at alchemy

Literally her entire motivation and ongoing focus.

Raiju is fine though, you guys like?

>>

Yes let's talk to the boy. And introduce ourselves. Maybe we can get a name out of him too.
>>

And this
>>751727
>>
>>751730
She doesn't really have a problem with that, you don't seem like a pervert.

>>751727
You take the boy aside to talk to him. He wonders why you're showing interest in him and thinks you'd enjoy spending time with one of the younger children more. You introduce yourself somewhat, you can sense some skepticism on him, but he clearly thinks there's something different about you if only because of the eyes. Because of this he has some concern why you're interested in him, and asks what someone like you would want with someone like him.

His name is___?
>>
>>751735
>Why we're interested in him.
Well we aren't having children of our own for some time. So we wanted to adopt one. But we have to make sure we aren't irresponsible about it. So we have an important question. What do you want to do when you get older?

(I want to give him a simple name. John? Or maybe Shaun? Those names are possible I think)
(What's his age OP.)
>>
>>751745
Adoption? Mags doesn't want to be weighed down by children that aren't her own, Lisbeth is kind of pushing it already.

You claim to be interested in adoption though, which is largely unheard of to him, and he supposes the nun responsible for him will be relieved. You ask him what he wants to do when he gets older, he figures go fight in the wars probably, or take to the faith. That's pretty much the future most boys here have to look forward to.

John or Shaun could work but are decidedly anglo names, Almese is more Frankish. Either way the boy is 10.
>>
>>751763
Shush Mags. Your taste is shit.
This kid is nice.
Plus maybe people will leave you be a bit more if you say you're raising an orphan.
Anyways
Ask him what he likes to do.
>>
>>751776
Kek
>>
>>751776
Mags doesn't feel like she has a problem with people not leaving her be. At least not enough to devote time and resources to a child, especially one not hers. Where does it end, will she end up with twenty orphans she's caring for in a year's time?

You ask him what he likes to do at any rate, he likes playing with the other boys, climbing and exploring, and basic woodworking which is a pretty common hobby for boys. He thinks it kind of nosy and asks you what you like to do?
>>
>>751788
>Where does it end.
With one child.
That's the slippery slope fallacy right there Mags.
Up your debate game.
>What we like to do.
We tend to travel around a lot and explore actually.
Right now we live here to study magic.
>>
>>751794
>With one child.

Then why not her own child? She's not getting any younger. Up your debate, inner voice, you're up against the biological clock.

Alternatively if you were to adopt a child, why not a, for lack of a more polite term, interesting kid? This one is only a quarter magically descended or so, why not a halfie like you? The more powerful the better, so what if the nun tells you this kid has been hit by lightning several times and has survived every time?

Talking about yourself though, again he's skeptical, and thinks it unlikely that a lady would be traveling around and exploring. It's more intriguing to him though than talking to the nun. He asks how your family lets you travel around and stuff, and what the priests think of you when you go to confession?
>>
>>751805
>so what if the nun tells you this kid has been hit by lightning several times and has survived every time?
That is actually pretty cool.
>Then why not her own child? She's not getting any younger. Up your debate, inner voice, you're up against the biological clock.
I'd like to point out that as a dragon you have a few centuries to have plenty of children.
Also Maggie the odds of finding a halfie is extremely unlikely and plus we can't exactly just roam the countryside searching for one just to come back here to have them trained properly.

It's like a merchant game. Being valuable is good. But you also have to factor your ability to sell and unload the product in a reasonable time frame.

>Why our parents let us travel around.
Like financially?
We pay for it ourselves. And physically I am not sure they can stop us.
>What the priests think of is at confession.
Actually we recently received praise from a priest for slaying a vampire.
>He thinks it's unlikely.
We are basically one of the most unorthodox, most uncommon people he'll meet.
>>
>>751805
But with who tho
We're still single and with no male interest
>>
>>751844
That's a good point.
Our best bet would be to hire a translator that speaks the tongue of the heathen lands
Or use magic to communicate telepathically with someone there with magical talent and use them as a mouthpiece.

Or one of the other places like the Orient or new world(if we want full blooded dragons)
>>
>>751832
>I'd like to point out that as a dragon you have a few centuries to have plenty of children.

While that is very true, she isn't entirely of that mindset and takes the possibility of living longer with a grain of salt. She knows she's a human mostly now, she knows she's got not a huge window, and perhaps most of all she still wants human children. It's hard to bank potential future transformation gains against her whole life so far, from social norms and traditions, and even biology prompting her to find a good guy to marry and have a family as soon as possible.

As for finding a halfie, you raise a good point, but if roaming the country is something you already regularly do, you imagine it would happen sooner or later. Also being fair, you just did a quick search of a few hours around churches in the area, and already found a quarter-kid. Statistically if you just better spent your searching, maybe with some help, you imagine it wouldn't be extremely difficult to find a halfie or even more than that. Just a consideration.

>Like financially?

No he actually means socially. Like why your parents (particularly your father) let you go gallivanting around. He doesn't think that's a very ladylike thing to do, and it's certainly a sin for a daughter to disobey or run away from her father, or leave the family under inappropriate circumstances.

He doesn't know what a vampire is, but more and more he's convince that indeed you are unorthodox, and wonders why you haven't been put in the stocks, forcibly married, or sent off to a nunnery.

>>751844
Well that's part of the issue. Like if you were to suggest Mags to start looking for a man to marry, she wouldn't at all be opposed to it. More and more other people, and she too, will start to think it a problem if she doesn't have a man in her life at her age. Sure she's not a normal young woman, but that's a really basic expectation, even from just a religious standpoint, let alone social one.

Certainly the last thing she or any woman in this age would want, is to wind up an old maid.

>>751854
Translators are fairly common in the more exploratory-oriented or mercantile countries. Worth noting that charming people or dominating them with will, works across language barriers. Though that's like taking a bulldozer to a problem that needs a hammer.
>>
>>751876
>Doesn't know what a vampire is.
Basically they're unholy creatures that prey on the blood of the innocent. Hence why they're hunted.
>Socially
Our father (technically we aren't lying cause Aderoth gives no shits about our love of traveling.) Is fine with it. And I'd like to note that we may be odd but you aren't one to talk. No normal human is like you. They don't have...that...

Implying you aren't both a marker for finding and intended protector of his favorite piece of human puss.

You describe to him a vampire though, and he thinks you sound like an Inquisitor now, and wonders if you aren't actually an adherent to the church? The topic of your ominous foreshadowing goes over his head though, he doesn't know about that part of him.

>>751904
You can't bring yourself to get too offended since his words hit you deep, considering you roughly feel and believe the same way, and were at least raised as such. The kid isn't being snarky either or trying to offend you, that's just his and the beliefs of the faith.

If you're using adoption as an alternate means of having children "with" Fera though, that's certainly a different matter. It occurs to you though that you and probably even here, if you were to go down that route together, would prefer to just have children by some guy(s) who aren't apt to stick around and hinder your lives together. Pregnant by way of one night stand is a small price to pay, if you want lives and a family together.

All tentative of course, you're not sure about Fera in the big picture, though to be fair you're farther along with her than any guy so far.

Not yet. We want to be(only somewhat) though we'd rather get more experience dealing with unholy creatures and such. It's only our second vampire. Also learning magic is important for us.
Now we're wondering. Do you have interest in magic? You certainly have the aptitude for it.

Hey OP since the kid is magic blooded could he theoretically cast a basic spell just by saying the incantation?

Even you weren't able to do that when you started, so probably not. You could always try, though you'll have a tough time trying to get him interested in doing so.
>>
>>752034
>Too much reading and learning to get used to or make good on.
I enjoy it.
And the basics aren't that difficult. Children can do it
>>
>>752063
The idea isn't as unappealing to him now, but he says he already does a lot of reading for church, he doesn't know how he'd be able to start reading and studying magic as well. He does think it fair that magic could come in handy for a soldier though, and asks if you know magic that would work in that way?
>>
>>752066
Barrier?
It's basically a defensive spell that comes in two basic types. A wall that blocks off a direction or a bubble that encompasses your body. It'd be handy in any sort of melee.
Though someone like you probably has some sort of magical skill or affinity as well as the ability to cast.

(OP what buffs would being undead have given us?)
>>
>>752076
CRAZY BUFFS YOU KNOW IT FOR SURE!

I don't know, would depend on the undead. With a ghost parent though you could probably turn ghostly and sheeyit, for example.

As for the kid, you explain the barrier spell to him, but you don't really have a book or paper means of demonstrating it to him, or for him to read and try to cast from. You could come back later and try again if you like though, maybe bring a wand or crystal for him to try to use, and create a circle or something for him to cast inside of.

Though maybe he'd have a better chance with a spell that fits whatever entity he's descended from?
>>
>>752079
Oh and for pretty much any undead, you'd be able to traverse the underworld or afterlife safely.
>>
>>752079
We don't know that though.
Though we can start by going through elements.
Like water,lightning,fire,earth and such.
Mention these elements and ask if he's had a particular affinity or maybe lot's of experience with one.
Ask if he really did get struck by lightning multiple times.
Maybe his ancestor is lightning related.
>>

>>
>>752093
The poor kid is terribly confused and has no idea what you're talking about, with elements and affinity, same with this talk of ancestors and whatnot.

When you ask about getting hit by lightning though, he does admit that yes it's actually not that uncommon of an occurrence for him and has happened plenty of times for some strange reason. Enough that, when it rains or storms, the nun makes him stay as far away from the outside or windows as possible, due to a bad situation where a fire was caused from him being struck inside once.

>>752096
Also obviously you'd have an in-road to necromancy, rather than aetherial magic as you do now.

Basically someone in your lineage slept with a magical creature.
And from the look of your magical aura which is the mark of a magic user. It's pretty recent. Maybe a parent or grand parent.

And if you keep getting hit by lightning said creature could be related to lightning.
Theoretically that means your a literal magic lightning rod.

You try to explain the situation to him but his grasp of the birds and the bees is flimsy at best and he can't grasp what you mean, he thinks and says he's human, so his parents must have been human, and their parents and so on.

He does admit it's weird the relationship with lightning though, and like how he accidentally starts fires or hurts people if he moves around in bed or with some blankets. To him though at best it's a religious thing and at worst a curse. He says if you think you know what's the deal though, you can go ahead and try to prove it, or show otherwise.

Electricity makes as much sense to her as the stars do. She like most people, isn't aware of the concept of electricity, and thinks of lightning as something like a bolt of white fire. So static discharge is a no.

You tell the boy you're curious about him though, and suggest that he could have control over it. You tell him to try it, but he has no idea how to, like if you asked him to change colors.

You can roll, but he doesn't have to experience or ability to create electricity. If he was exposed to it though, and in a controlled environment, knowing what he knows now things might go differently.

That's not bad. You electrify your hand and ask to hold his. He has no idea what you're up to and is a little suspicious, but when you transfer the electricity to his hand, he starts freaking out as it crackles about it and glows. In a panic, he doesn't know what to do since it isn't going away, and tries shaking it off or smacking it against the floor or wall but to no success. He eventually goes to you freaking out and starting to cry and begging you to stop it, he's clearly frightened.

The main concern though, is that it is stable about his hand.

It's sort of effective you guess, he's not losing his mind and screaming in fear, but he's still distressed as he backs up into a corner, knocking over some things in the process, as he sits there and tries to keep his hand away from him and close his eyes, hope that it goes away.

Also,

>mfw I realize a potential problem, where the players want to become the fantasy Renaissance equivalent of Professor X, going around and finding/collecting all the kids who would otherwise never know they're magical, and awakening them and helping them to understand and control their abilities
>>

I'm pretty sure the crown might actually fund that shit. That has military application written all over it.

Anyways.
>Calm down and feel it. Try to control where it goes. Will it. It can not hurt you. Merely obey.
>>
>>752249
The crown prefers not the idea of even more magic people, in line with the setting sentiment against magic in general. If you went around finding anyone magical who normally wouldn't be, that's just complicating things.

Also you would assumedly operate beyond Almace as well, since there can only be so many magic people in a populace to begin with, so the crown is certainly not going to be a fan of you traveling to other or opposed countries and making them more magical.

Also it's entirely not what I had in mind for the quest. Not opposed to the idea, and not like it can't happen, just completely left field.

Either way you try to tell the kid to calm down, overtime it sort of works as he just becomes less worried on his own and comes to fearfully accept it. You can sense though he's still distressed, and would rather it just stop altogether. He does what you tell him but only because you have a position of authority over him. And to some extent it does work, he's able to focus and move it across his hand to his fingers, or to one side or the other.

You tell him to channel the electricity and focus it to the end of his hand, if he wants to be rid of it then he'll have to cast if off himself. You let him know you can handle him sending it at you, as you bring up your usual barrier.

Wildly against expectations though, he does as you say, and then a literal full-on bolt of lightning rips through the air between you two in an instant, leaping from his hand towards you and tearing through your barrier spell in a deafening explosion of light and sound. You're sent flying backwards as the barrier shatters, and you hit the wall with a mighty force.

Everything goes dark.

---

You awaken some time later in the church proper, in what you'd guess to be the priest's chambers behind the main altar. Looking around confused and feeling in a world of pain, you call out to anyone, and eventually the priest himself emerges into the room saying for you to lay still you were hurt badly. Just looking over yourself you notice to be in your knickers and with the exposure can see a bright red streaking pattern across your skin that looks like a branching fractal pattern, like a complicated tree branch imprinted across your torso and spreading to your extremities.

The priest says it's by God's grace did you survive, and you'll be lucky to make it out with just the scarring to your body.

You had this conversation with her before, she's able to make sort of a salve which may or may not mitigate scarring overtime but not completely. The only surefire way to do it would be with blood magic, since with that you can change whatever you want about the body however you like.

So do you want to leave to go find Alicia then? Also scales won't form properly over scars, like when reptiles get scarred normally. Not like it will be scaleless and bare, but the scaling will be different patterned and color, as well as consistency/toughness.

You ask the priest, he says the boy is in a real state and there's serious concern about him remaining here any longer. You coming around here anymore isn't an issue since they don't assume you did anything untoward, as far as they know you just met to speak with the boy and he struck you with a lightning bolt, by accident most likely but nonetheless.

>>752346
So Alicia first then?
>>
>>753152
Yes Alicia first

>>
>>753152
Wait actually call the boy here if they can.
And tell the priest that the child did nothing wrong.
He cannot be blamed for not knowing of and being unable to control his heritage.
>>
>>753842
Are you going to be that honest with them about him? They don't know about his heritage just as he didn't.
>>
>>753877
Okay then.
Just allude to the fact that something magical in nature is going on here.
And that it also might have to do with why lightning loves picking on him.
And that he's unaware of this.
>>
>>753886
Without stating what you know, you explain that something magical is afoot and the reason for the trouble, not the boy's fault. The priest takes that to mean something unholy perhaps though, and will probably consider an exorcism or something like that. He'll have to consult the hierarchy. At least for now that doesn't mean the kid's getting kicked out for being a menace.

So, on to find Alicia? The nun can lend you some simple clothes, since the torso are of the ones you were wearing set ablaze. All the while though the priests still believes you should remain and rest.
>>
>>753911
Say this exactly.
>Well if your looking to find out what kind of magic your dealing with I might be able to help.
>I've heard of some things that can cause people to be attuned to the elements like this. If I can get a good look at him I might find something.
>>
>>753922
The priest is understandably reluctant at first, until you explain you are from the magic academy. While he would rather have someone official take care of the matter, if need be he wouldn't mind your assistance.
>>
>>753925
>I wouldn't mind at all. Normally you would need special equipment for this test but luckily I can do this without it. I'll be glad to assist.
>>
>>753928
Well it's all Greek to him, he won't get in your way if there's anything you want to do, or need to. He'll just be there to observe and hopefully prevent another lighting strike from happening.
>>
>>753931
Ask him to guide us to the boy then..
>>
>>753933
After being given new clothes, you find yourself in a side room of the parish building, where the boy is sitting with the nun, as she tries to console him. He's visibly shaken and when he sees you starts to get anxious. You can sense he's afraid of you now, and probably afraid of himself as well. The priest tells the boy to be calm though and that you're here to help. While the boy clearly doesn't believe it, he does calm down a little.
>>
>>753955
Just give a strong glance at him and say to the priest
>So that's what it is. Good priest may I talk to you in private?
>>
>>753959
Your somber tone worries the priest, but he does as you bid and meets in a separate room with you, hoping the cause isn't demons.
>>
>>754052
>After I actually gave the boy a good look the cause is simple in a way. He shares relationship to a entity that is magical in nature. Probably one with lightning in it's nature. All the electricity and sparks and such. That's just his innate power. He has no control over it though so he'll need practice in controlling and manipulating it. Better then demons at least.
>>
>>754068
This news is rather alarming to the priest, and as expected he'll have to refer to his superiors, but knowing this he expects the boy to be transferred to monastic care at least. He thanks you for your service though, and is now worried the boy poses a risk for everyone here, even an unintentional one.
>>
>>754080
>Well it's an innate ability. Just knowing about it and trying to manipulate and control it should be instinctual. It's just that he'll need to train harder if he wants fine control of it and really get a feel for it.
>>
>>754119
Well if there's a place he can find training, and control, it's a monastery.

So what do you want to do now?
>>
>>754124
We should finally head to Alicia.
We need that anti scar cream.
Maybe we should have her make beauty potions
That would sell well to the vain nobility.
>>
>>754145
Very well, you make your way back to your house, it's early evening now. You find her as she labors over the invisibility potion still, commenting that you stink, probably still after effects of getting covered in vampire viscera.

You ask her about something to help with scarring, maybe reducing it? She says that's never been her thing but she can certainly whip something up if you need it. Depends on the type of scarring of course though.

As for beauty potions, are you trying to prompt her to become a con artist? Or just cosmetics?
>>
>>754192
Just cosmetics.
Make skin smoother.
Less wrinkles and all that shit.
Maybe anti wart stuff too.

And the scars we want gone.
We have multiple types.
A burn scar.
Some from whips I think.
But if we have to choose we get a lightning burn and we want it gone.
>>
>>754206
Cosmetics sounds like a decent idea yes, she could probably make some stuff on the side.

As for your case, what she has might be able to help with the lash and wolf scarring, but the lightning is a deep tissue burn scar, so she can't do much. It's like a birth mark really, she can give you something which might reduce keloid scarring overtime. What you'd need though is something like skin bleaching or something, which she can only offer up as temporary, like when she needed to obscure her own burn scars in trying to get into the city.

She wonders how bad it can be though, and says she could look at it if you don't mind.
>>
>>754233
Sure let her see it's extent.
Goddamn lightning bending. This wouldn't happen if we were the avatar.
>>
>>754247
You show her the scar, the bolt hit you in the torso, towards the right side of your chest. The fractal pattern spread pretty far though and even reaches your extremities somewhat.

She does a double take though and asks how you got such an injury? As in, she wonders if you actually did legitimately just get hit by lightning? Based on her opinion though, she expects most of it to fade with time. Around where it hit will be proper scarring, but she doesn't expect it to be larger than about the size of an outstretched hand. The fractal pattern is definitely trippy, but it will probably end up looking like a really strange birthmark on your chest.
>>
>>754264
>Well there was this orphaned kid that shares blood with a lightning based !magical entity. He got hit by lightning alot. And he can shoot it apparently. This was a surprise to both of us.

>So anyways can you do anything about where the proper scarring will be?
>>
>>754292
She doesn't seem surprised that you'd find your way to some other magical person, and end up getting the short end of the stick. She hopes you won't be bringing said kid around though, the last thing needed around here is stray lightning.

As for the main scarring, she doesn't think so, it's deep tissue and discoloration. She can give you something which will temporarily change the skin color but you'll need to reapply it ongoing. She wonders why you're so bothered though, when the other scarring is much more unsightly, and it didn't seem to bother you before.
>>
>>754313
>The other scarring is much more unsightly
Thanks for the confidence boost.
We were just wondering if anything could be done about it. Oh well.
>She hopes you won't bring him around
He's getting sent to a monastery for training to control his power.
Anyways do you know where Avor is?
>>
>>754334
>Thanks for the confidence boost.

You're talking to her, who is much, much worse than you and makes children cry to look at.

You ask about Avor though, he's upstairs building something she thinks, you can go see for yourself. Indeed you heard the sound of construction when you came into the house.
>>
>>754352
Let's check it out
(Has Avor noticed our eyes? How does he feel about it?)
>>
>>754374
He noticed them when it happened, he loved them very much and frequently compliments you about them, and you often sense his attraction to you of course.

At any rate you head upstairs to find him in his room, hammering away and having made some sort of wooden shell out of parts of furniture. When he sees you he's ecstatic, and says he's nearly done with his project; a boat, with which he will be a mighty captain and sail out from under the house to see the city. He of course invites you to come with him, as he named the boat after you, but you know it to be too small and not even that well made honestly.
>>
>>754424
Do we have any magic for making boats float?
We might need it.
>>
>>754442
You can increase the buoyancy. Probably more useful though would be to just grow a bunch more wood for him to make the boat bigger with. Or just buy a proper boat.
>>
>>754478
Tell Avor.
>It's not big enough I think. We should get more lumber and wood. We could try to get some.

>>755120
You could keep casting grow on it sure. As for what to do with it, that's up to you. Tora wonders why you would want to cut it down though, typical human thinking.

>What do you want to do now?

It's night time now.

>Originally I wanted to grow the tree for lumber but I didn't think it would get this big. Now I'm not sure I want to chop it down.

Anyways.
Use our spiderman(the wall climbing) spell to scale the tree and shout
>But this is also nice!
>>
>>755179
You scale the tree a good ways up, it's very tiring and takes a long time.

You should out though how nice it is. The view alone is impressive, as you can see the distant lights of the city and the stars above.
>>
>>755186
Wait a minute.
That's good stamina exercise.
Anyways let's try practicing our zoom sight. While we enjoy the scenery a bit.

OP can I get an estimate of how many stories this tree is?
>>
>>755240
It's 6 stories tall roughly. You can chill up here and practice your eyesight, what should Tora do in the meantime though she calls up that she's getting bored. Could also switch perspective if you like.
>>
>>755256
We should talk to Tora.
We don't know much about her.
Let's ask her about her childhood.
>>
>>755287
How do you talk to her you're up in a tree? Unless you like shouting.
>>
Rolled 92 (1d100)

>>755329
We have a throw voice spell.
Let's use it.
>>
>>755329
And we have heightened hearing.
She can talk normally and we can throw our voice.
>>
>>755346
Well you are sufficiently able to throw your voice. Given the trouble to do so, Tora is willing to have a strange conversation like that. You hearing is good enough that she doesn't need to shout in return.

At any rate you talk with her and get to know her better. Her childhood was pretty straightforward, she was born into a wild herd and took to learning the ways. Her mother was the shaman whom she took after, but eventually developed a curiosity in civilized lands. Particularly when she wasn't in line for the next shaman position anyway. After she left she wandered around and took a job with a military who hired her mistakenly thinking she could provide dairy goods, but ended as a worker instead, and eventually found her way to Almace proper finding work at selling her magic skills. When you encountered her, she'd found a job in the way of peddling to people who could pay for her mostly as a curiosity.

She's terse as usual, but of out politeness asks you the same questions.
>>
>>755385
>Well I more or less lived as a normal peasant girl up until my parents arranged a wedding basically. To avoid it I worked as a maid and it went well for a while then an incident happened between me and the woman that hired me and it got... unpleasant. I ended up fleeing into the forest. Met some goblins then tricked into being enslaved by kobolds in their camp where I met avor. Escaped then spent some time as a maid on an inn then I become a sword for hire. Met a friend and started a successful business. A short while later I ended up in Rea where I learned of my parentage and then after a while I ended up here. To find the dragon here and after checking out the magic school I stayed to learn how to use my power.
>>
Just finished Ds3 dlc
Now i can actually start participating
>>
>>755404
Your situation is obviously a lot more complicated than hers. She does ask though to start it all of with, why did you avoid getting married in the first place? Based on her limited understanding of human customs, isn't it a sin to go against one's father like that, especially for a girl and on the matter of being betrothed?

She's also obviously curious about what was bad enough that made you flee into "the woods" as a young human woman to take a risk like that.
>>
>>755630
>I was nervous as could be. Terrified even maybe I was just scared of being tied to one place. Part of me would enjoy the thought of a calm life but another part really wants to explore.
>What was bad enough to make us flee

>She branded me for slavery. I dealt with the brand afterwards though.
>>
>>755658
Well those are some fair answers to her curiosity, as she asks you if you regret any decisions to lead you here?

Otherwise, you have a good talk. What do you want to do now?

>>
>>755718
It's nighttime but it's not very late. She probably won't be at her home though.

Either way you drift down and cast growth on the tree, it embiggens about another two stories and wider around still. It may soon collapse under its own weight at this rate.

You literally bump into her on the way into town, she happened to be by the entrance gate you take to get back in, on account of delivering a book she bound to someone. She hugs you and happily greets you, asking how things are and how they've been since last you met.

at this rate is the tree going to get a dryad in it?

We planted
It's a few stories tall now.

>>755773
Tell her we have something important to tell her and help her deliver that book

And mention it's something personal and something we need to talk in private
>>
>>755777
A tree so large and magical, it's unlikely that it will go unnoticed, by both magical beings and normal ones alike.

But you could try and improve it naturally with magic. Someone with nature magic though would be better suited.

>>755785
She already delivered the book that's why she was out here. If you need to talk in private though and it's important, she's willing to go wherever you want to. Tora asks if she should head on home then, in the meantime?
>>
>>755796
Whatever.
Tomorrow we should prepare some food grab our lute and start trying to figure out how to play while sitting under the tree. Some faggot better not cut it down. Alot of 90s went into it.

Yes Tora can head home. Thank her for the company as well.

And let's walk and talk with her whole she delivers the book.
>>
>>755796
Yeah, Tora can head home
Lets go to Fera's house

And ask her about that book and the guy he delivered it to

>Implying some noble isn't going to claim it, or claim it's on their land, and charge people to see or go near it

You release Tora for now and thank her for her help and company.

You walk together with Fera the rest of the way and talk about the book. It was some sort of literature book, had writings from olden times and was going to a foreign fellow from what she can tell.

At any rate a little while later and you reach her "house" as she does some small tidying up and tells you to make yourself comfortable, asks if you want anything to eat or drink maybe?
>>
>>755828
Note:Carve our name on that shit.
Preferably today if we have the time.
Tomorrow we don't.

>Anything to eat or drink
No we're fine. Oh and see you free tomorrow?
>>
>>755834
You make a note to carve your name on the tree, however if you keep casting growth on it, it will just heal over the carving.

She's free tomorrow though, yes. She wonders what you have in mind?
>>
>>755842
I'm not sure I want to keep casting it.
Like the more we do the more it becomes a neon sign saying (FUCKTONS OF MAGIC POWER OVER HERE. MAGIC ENTITIES WELCOME.)
Though I might still cause kek.
Like literally we focused the life essence of magic entities into a cool tree.
>>
>>755828
Also I'd like to note we could just threaten to make ourselves a magic void and take back all the energy in the tree since that power came from our body and is a possession of ours.
>>
>>755828
>eat or drink?
Nah

>So, I've got something to tell you, i dont know if you already know but... im half dragon, i may not stay human forever maybe I'll go full dragon or maybe ill grow scales later on, knowing this, are you okay with me being what I am?
>>
>>755853
Obviously nothing bad will come of doing any such thing as that.

>>755856
You can threaten that but to someone who doesn't understand magic, it would be like threatening to vwliblwlr their asdklsajdl.

>>755860
You turn down her offer and ask to talk with her. You explain the truth and though she thinks you're joking at first, you affirm that you're completely serious and the realization sinks in. It takes some time as she processes the information, but eventually she has a eureka moment as everything falls into place. She says it makes sense now, why you weren't afraid of the dragoness and able to interact with her normally, and it explains your eyes.

She comes to admit that she would prefer you as you are now, the you she has feelings for, but she wouldn't ever hold it against you for what you did with your own body, and she says for you, she could learn to accept and still have feelings for however you might be. She just laments a possible size disparity, and how you'd ever be able to lay together if you ended up being the size of a house?

She's obviously a little flustered when you take her to the bedroom and lose your clothes, but when she sees the scar she gasps and draws close, putting her hand on your chest lightly and asking what happened, if it hurts, and if there's anything she can do? In passing she says it's not so bad and could pass as just a birthmark, but first and foremost she's concerned about your wellbeing with it.

>Also it actually happened today.

She thinks that very noble of you if you're helping out a child who has problems with such things, that you would risk your life no doubt for their sake. You're a better person than most because of it, if only there were more like you. She has a laugh though as she traces the scarring with her fingers though, saying not to let any overly religious folks see it or else they'll think it a sign from god and proclaim it a miracle or deem you a saint, something like that. Then she'd not feel so priveledged to have seen your chest when people would be making religious iconography of it.

Curiously she also asks if you have any feeling there left, and wonders what it must be like to get hit by lighting.
>>
>>755964
>Well for me it was too fast to process and I lost consciousness immediately afterwards. If only you could ask the orphan. Everytime he want out during storms in the slightest he would get struck. But it does hurt him.

She says that's pretty intense and thinks most people to die when struck by lightning, so you're one tough cookie. Just to check what she says is the most important detail, she lowers a little and plants a kiss on the scar on your chest, and looking up asks if you can feel it with a small smile.

Strange that you don't feel embarrassed as you might have weeks past, and you thank her for being understanding and hug her, she reciprocates and it's a nice feeling. Normally with everyone else you put on a strong face and don't let your inside creep out, but with Fera you can talk about your problems and feelings and inner thoughts, and never feel vulnerable. It's pretty therapeutic to be honest.

>What do you want to do now?

You stay awhile to talk more still, and get dressed again. When you look to go though, she laments you leaving, and so soon at that. Your parting kiss livens her mood a little but you can tell she's still disappointed.

>What do you want to do now?

Back to school then I guess?

You get back to school late but get in, after the headmistress is done nagging your ear off, you ask her about the seeds and possible fruit, she says she can't imagine why that wouldn't be allowed, just make sure you don't go doing anything foolish like planting and growing a massive mega magic tree on school grounds.

Otherwise, anything else you want to do before going to sleep? Your roommates are in your room as you are supposed to be as well, but it's not lights out for your room yet.

>just make sure you don't go doing anything foolish like planting and growing a massive mega magic tree on school grounds.

Dangit! Foiled again.

How much would it cost to buy a small plot of land.
Could we afford it?
And can we charge spells while asleep?

And ask them how their days went.
>>
>>757870
A small plot of land where? If it's outside the city you could afford a little bit pretty cheap probably.

No charging spells while asleep, unless you've got special items for it, or like a spell circle or something.

Before turning in for the night though you ask your roommates how their day went, Beatrice went looking for something to get for her father for the winter holiday with Eliza, while Maeyal visited a dignitary from the Selden Empire coming to meet with the king. Pretty interesting stuff, they're glad to hear you had an interesting day as well, and are rather curious about the lightning scar.

When you roll up to the tree there's some people around it and someone put up a rope fence around it. Carving it may not be possible.

>100

You find literally a fairytale storybook idyllic plot of land right outside the city on the river, an old water mill. Currently there are some ratlings squatting in it though.

>48

You go to the elf quarters and are stopped by the same guy as last time, asking you if you remember that they don't like your type here.

>64
You find a decent lute player yeah, who can teach you. A former soldier who lost an arm but in theory knows how to play and can teach well.

We will take that land and deal with the ratlings.

And yes to that instructor for lute.

Fuck that
We're carving our name on it, that tree is ours

You buy the land. It's quite a small plot, but it would literally be impossible to find a parcel of land outside the city but any closer, and also on the river.

And sure, you hire the lute instructor. He thinks it's weird if you want to play when your nails are resembling claws, but whatever.

Kicking the door down startles some of them, others move away from where the door falls, you hear some complaining and saying to put the door back on or to go away.

So who do you want to go after first?
>>
>>758335
>I'm going to give you two options. Surrender or we attack you. If you could be so kind as to surrender that'd be wonderful. Because this place is actually mines.

>>
>>758365

>>
>>758354
They ask why they're surrendering and who you are? You a group of soldiers or something here to kill them? This causes some panic among them as a few try to gather up their things and flee for their lives.

Others are pretty comfortably settled in and don't like the idea of being evicted by some other possible homeless people.
>>
>>758373
>I'm Magdalena the new owner of this plot of land and a practitioner of magic. And if you surrender we might actually come to an agreement.
I'm disappointed we aren't getting a fight
Somewhat at least
>>
>>758386
When you bring up that you're the new owner, they kind of collectively groan and start to pack up their stuff, slowly leaving at their own pace. Well those that can, there's some that are injured or old and such, and are just left to die and themselves kind of just accept it.

You've mostly got the place clear though, it's not too bad apart from the smell and leftover rubbish. With some money you could get it fixed up and running, if you had need of a water mill that is. What now?
>>
>>758438
>Be slightly disappointed at the lack of a fight.
If they haven't left yet stop them.
They can stay if they watch and maintain the land and just generally work it how we want it worked.
>>
>>758438
Aw man
Lets clean up what we can and after we're done let's take a bath on the river if it's clean and private enough
>>

Eh that's not really their thing. Like they can maybe keep the mill and house alright, but out working and stuff they're not interested in. They do better as scavengers and such, hard labor is too much on them.

>>758466
The river isn't clean at all, right across from the mill is city waterfront where people dump sewage into the river. I mean you *can* bathe in it if you want, but you don't really want to.
>>

Awwww maaaaan

The only thing they'd have to do is pick fruit trees when they bear and make sure people without our permission to enter stay out.

And I assume we can use magic to make a self cleaning/self refilling pool of water?
>>
>>758487
If you want them to pick fruit, that's fairly reasonable to them. Acting as watch dogs basically though, won't work since kids can probably beat them in a fight. As for refilling water, not so much a spell, but you can get or make an item which can do that.
>>
Rolled 61 (1d100)

And make sure it's not blocking anything or too close to any trees.
>>
>>758511
You can arm them on your own property, but if people fight out they might not like it since to their eyes your organizing and arming beastlings.

You look around for a place to put the trees, you've got enough land for a small orchard of a few tress but if you want it to be organized, you'll have to do some clearing since currently it's got a real secret garden vibe going on, you even see a fairy skirting about some flowers.
>>
>>758573
Wait what?
Say to the fairy
Ask if she will mind us clearing some trees to plant magic apple ones.
I'm not some crude human that will make magic creatures homeless for convenience
>>
>>758580
>Say to the fairy
Say hi to it
>>
>>758580
It's a dude fairy, he doesn't actually live here so he doesn't mind what you do, as long as you don't go putting up walls and keeping him out.

You say hi to him though, he says hi back. Notably he doesn't get close to you, like any other wild animal really. Though he's probably intelligent enough to know you could be dangerous rather than fearing you from instinct.

He asks what kind of fruit out of curiosity though.
>>
>>758653
>Apples why?

Can we form contracts with fairy's?
Will the church try to kill them cause
'lel they are obviously related to the fae'
>>
>>758665
You could form a contract with anything magical so fairy is yes. The church wouldn't try to kill them since they're generally harmless, and not actually faeborn. At least not in any capacity that counts. They like to mingle around nature and bring benevolent magic, and apart from the tricksy ones, they're thought of as good signs. They aren't the cruel otherworld creatures that trap people in wicked deals or games, steal people away for their fell purposes, or bewitch the mind and soul. Neither are they the dangerous sort, the strangers.

He doesn't like apples himself, but it's your choice what to do with them so he won't hold it against you.
>>
>>758700
Ok that's good.

So we should probably go and get some people to clear out an area where we can plant the trees
I assume a lumber mill or Whatever will pay to get some of the trees right?
>>
>>758724
Well the plot of land is overgrown but not by trees so much, just a lot of thick grasses, bushes, and high growth. There are a few trees, but not enough that you'd think going to say a lumber mill, would make sense.

In this case you could probably just find some local farmhands to clear it out for you in a couple days or so. Whatever the case you can roll to see if you can track down some help.

Let's start learning to play.
We have an instructor now.
>>
>>758789
How much effort do you want to devote to it? You only have a limited time in the weekday after classes, so you have to start deciding what you spend your free time on. This includes activities from before that you might not regularly keep up with unless noted otherwise, like trying to get further into shape, or practicing magic beyond what your normal curriculum is.
>>
>>758796
Let's have an alternating schedule.
Exercise and learn to play on one day
Study and Exercise on the next
Rinse repeat.
>>
>>758798
Sounds good for now. So through the activities of the day, it comes to early evening and your schedule is clear, having done the things you could do and spent time learning to play. What do you want to do now?
>>
>>758817
Let's search our school library for books on combining spells.

(About one in one hundred thousand.)
>>

Yeah you find a couple books and journals which contain information on combining spells. However it's pretty advanced knowledge, and not only does it seem like something you wouldn't be taught for a year or more at least, but it's also written at a higher level than you're able to just normally read and understand. Only the journal reads somewhat coherently, but it looks like the writer suffered an ill-attempt and didn't progress much beyond some initial success.
>>
>>758862
Then let's get down to cracking this shit.
Start by reading the journal and trying to get a good grasp of it and see if we can't use that as a jumping of point to understand the books.
And remember where these books were located.
It's important
>>
>>758880
It'll be something which you do overtime, and eventually you can see if you've made any gains. As for the books you can take them with you, particularly journals, there's no set procedure in the library about personal writings, they're just kept there because they're books (usually).
>>
Rolled 13 (1d100)

>>758886
Awesome then.

Let's find books on dragons now.

>>

Now that's much better, you find two different bestiaries on dragons, the copy of a journal of a fellow who traveled around, and some much older historical accounts of the deeds of St. Garlan and his efforts to rid the continent of dragons. Lastly you also oddly find, some sort of transcript of an ongoing study and some conversations of a bishop and a cooperative dragoness. It looks to be fairly old, maybe fifty years and the subject is largely about a dragon whom offered cooperation and service to the crown, and so before anything was considered she was interviewed by church officials to gauge how trustworthy and genuine she was, and of course the nature of her being and if demonic, heretical or otherwise evil.

That's some spooky shit I tell you what.

We have so much shit to do the next day.
We should read the book about the wandering dragon researcher. We can read the interview with the Dragoness
>>
>>758942
The wandering fellow's book isn't a bestiary, it's a journal of his travels. Some hundred years ago he traveled eastward from this continent, and to your interest met three dragons, one of the western variety and two of the eastern kind. As expected the western one was greedy and selfish to a fault and rather petty, at least you glean that from the writing, the writer himself was enamored with the dragon and thought it amazing. The two eastern dragons meanwhile, while he didn't like them, you get the sense that they were very polite and tolerant, very accommodating and deeply spiritual and naturalistic.

As for the two bestiaries, one goes over some guy from near two hundred years ago who was permitted to to live under and observe a dragon in its living habits, and includes everything from diet to behavior and even reproduction. It's kind of hard to read though because of the difference in language at that time as well as the writer's much more academic and learned background.

The other bestiary is much more medical nature and the dragon entry is based around the autopsy of a dragon. It provides detailed writings and diagrams, as well as offering explanations or musings as to the workings and nature of the dragon body, that to you make sense. Things like how it produces fire breath, and how the bones of the tail join, etc...

It's a lot of reading but that's what you gather from a basic scan of about an hour each.

>What now?
>>
>>764654
It's evening right?
Maybe we can hire some people to cut down the trees and remove the stumps.

>>

You already took to hiring a team to handle it, when you came back into town. They won't start work tonight, but over the next few days they'll have it done.

It is evening though, yes.
>>
>>764686
Can we search the library for books on magic theory for advanced magic?
Not how to cast the spells but sort of a primer to make understanding that level of magic easier.
>>
>>764695
You already know books like that in this environment would be considered dangerous, and so in the restricted area. Permission from a school staff member is required to get in let alone read anything.
>>
>>764716
Let's ask the headmistress then.
I'm pretty sure Maggie already has a good grasp of common tier magic.
>>
>>764730
You ask Nera for her permission to access that part of the library, but she can't allow that since she's not responsible for you academically, saying a teacher would be better suited towards that. She lets you know however that you probably won't be able to do that since at your level of magic, the potential for accident, and most importantly having only been a student for a few months, no one is going to risk the responsibility of you for it.
>>
>>764753

Well this is annoying.
Next year we'll certainly be in advanced magic classes.
What's the nation to the north like?
Regarding their opinions on magic and the like.
Do the guilds train magicians?

Let's just search or some books on nature magic and druidism
>>
>>764850
You mean the immediate north, or across the waters? Immediate north, for sure they have guilds for that sort of thing, and if there's money to be made then you can bet they'll support you.

Across the waters, it's more respected there and sort of like an old tradition. As such you'll find a hard time getting your foot in the door, but if you were competent enough you could attain small celebrity status of a sort.

You are able to find some books on nature magic, but it's an actual different form of magic than your own, so you can read the book and learn from it, but it won't just allow you to perform nature magic. As for druid stuff, you only find a history book on them rather than anything about magic relating to them, however you from your learning alone, know them to at least traditional be practitioners of nature magic.
>>
Rolled 90 (1d100)

>>764876
Well then that's not necessary to us right now.
What we do need now though would be a aura encyclopedia so we can tell what the colors of an aura mean. And the individual properties of a swirling aura means as well.

Then we should turn in early.
>>
>>764876
I'm wondering.
Regarding the teaching of magic and spell craft.
How ahead of it are we?
I mean regarding the magic curriculum.
>>
>>764891
>90

You get a book on it but can't read it now because I've not yet put greater thought to aura characteristics, so will have to do so.

You turn in early though, but it doesn't help much. Something of a recurring problem, but you've been having strange nightmares as of late and without any consistency, it's been impacting your sleep.

Next day of classes though, you get up feeling tired, go to breakfast with everyone, and make your way through the last day of the academic week.

What do you want to do now? Tomorrow is the fest, in the evening.

>>764900
There isn't really an "ahead" of the curriculum since your placement in the school isn't based on time but rather capability, so it's more like university than standard school. Comparatively though, you're at around the low-middling level of aetherial magic skill, which is phenomenally, literally mind-bogglingly (for most of the staff and students) impressive since you've only been a student for a few months and advanced as far as you have, which would take a natural magic user many years to do. Better still, that you didn't even have a magic background before coming to the school, or even before this year.

It's like someone in say Christopher's situation, who became magically aware and started learning it at a young age of around 10, and by a later age of like 16-18 were able to attend the school for proper training and started with beginner magic, which for them even after those years prior is still advanced and difficult for them. Then after some more years, perhaps even another decade at the school and rigorous study, they're at a "common" level of magic and can graduate. If they want to stay on for advanced study, that's another 10 years maybe, where they'd be "Advanced", and then maybe they could become staff members or go to another country for a higher grade school, or learn from someone higher than them. Another 10 odd years, and they're "Experts". Then only a rare might have the actual talent, or time to devote another 10-20 years to becoming masters, and to do so would require super intense study and association with a cabal of fellow colleagues trying to reach the same goal together.

So you're looking at an entire life trying to master the craft, they'd be in their 60s and still not be masters yet. At the very least around 10-20 years of actual academy training just to be at a "passable" level.

Then there's you, who never touched magic before this year, and in a matter of months (even fewer while actually at the school) you reached with little effort, what would take someone almost 20 years.

Wait so they have yearly evaluations but traditionally it takes ten years to go up a rank.
And we just said fuck that shit.
I'm going to laugh at the filthy mongrels now.
>>764936
And yes let's find a priest.
And look at people for magic auras while we walk to the church.
>>
>>764935
And in the grand scheme of spell ranking how would our aether aura and bow rank?
Is it unique because of solid aether's properties?
>>
>>764955
You have to remember that the academy is as much an academic institution as a magic one, they teach you an all around education aside of a magic one, so the yearly evaluations aren't just for magic. As for 10 years to move up a level, there's a good few levels so it's more like you pass and get to move up to a more advanced tier teacher. "Common" level of magic isn't just a single tier, it has different rates, as how you're lower-common, basically with your initial evaluation upon joining the school, you succeeded all the requirements and expectations for the "Beginner" tier.

But you can probably see why some people don't like you, on top of the usual issues around being a woman, and of course being a half-breed.

But anyway, you seek to head to a church, and along the way think to look for anyone magical possibly. ROLL.
>>
Rolled 73 (1d100)

>>
>>764963
Auras and magic weapons are not amazingly advanced, but the aether thing is, to an unheard of degree. As you recall, there was and still is a huge ongoing discussion/debate at the academy among the staff, about the implications of your aether use, and what it could mean for magic understanding and studies in general.

>>764975
>73

Not enough, you don't notice anyone magic along the way. But you reach a church nearby and ask about seeing a priest and talk about the nightmares. He thinks it a confessional matter, and suggests praying and whatnot, and for peace of mind blesses you and sends you on your way, and if it gets worse come back.

You feel better though for it. What now? It's afternoon.
>>
>>765030
Really?
What have they been saying?
Any theories?
And how has this affected both the staffs and the student bodies opinion of us?

Let's see if we can make a magic item.
Let's head to a cobbler or whatever and see if we can make magic shoes with the power of silence.
So we can walk and run around without making a sound.
>>
>>765077
You don't know specifically what they've been saying, just some gossip gleaned from staff who like you. It sounds pretty mixed though as before, but there are some whispers of renown magic scholars and similar such notable persons from other countries coming to study you.

As for the student, a general mix between being impressed, and scornful for ending up naked that tie in the courtyard, a lot of bad blood still about that. A couple times you've been approached though by graduated students in a friendly manner, seeking to get to know you and maybe study your magic.

As for a magic item, roll to find a cobbler who will allow such a thing, as well as be ok with letting a woman work with him. Just a heads up though, you've never made a magic item before so you're not familiar with the process. It might be better to at least learn about, or ideally watch someone do it a few times first.
>>
>>765171
>but there are some whispers of renown magic scholars and similar such notable persons from other countries coming to study you.
I wonder why I'm getting a chill down my spine.
Probably nothing.

Anyways let's head back to school and see maybe if we can find books on magic item creation.
And ask a teacher what happens when you cast grow on a tree and it grows 6 stories.
Ask them if the tree will be magical and if it could be used for anything.
>>
>>765228
You head back to school and find some books on magic items, but not really creation. You come to read and understand that magic item creating is something of a trade secret practiced by craftsmen and guilds.

You speak to a teacher you can find though and talk about the tree, they're shocked when they realize that the huge tree outside of the city people have been talking about, was you. He says if you just used basic growth spell, the tree itself shouldn't be magical, just the energy used to make it huge. He's pretty short with you though, and says he needs to go speak with the other teachers about this.
>>
>>765253

You can find a small time orc smithy whose wife has some small magic skill, and you can learn from them and watch them. You're able to demonstrate your own magic skill to them and being from the academy impresses them, that they hope to benefit from your involvement. Like if you even made one set of magic horseshoes or nails for them to sell, it would be worth their time and effort to involve you. Plus the fact that you're willing to associate with them, they get a lot of trouble and face hardship and prejudice for being an interracial couple.
>>
>>765419
Well I'm fine with that deal.

I need to find out the source of this salt.
And let's head back to the school to hear the controversy we cause because we literally obliterate their sense of learning pace and magic power.
>>
>>766834
There are various reasons they dislike you, you imagine. The most obvious would be the reason you said, they feel belittled by you. There are plenty of other potential reasons though, ranging from your low class background and how easily you were let into the school, your inappropriate practices, and even your gender or half-breed nature.
>>
>>765448
Yeah they're ok with you learning from them and helping out alongside them. As for their wares, durability could be one thing, another might be weight, shape, properties, who knows.

>>765525
They're used to being discriminated against by now, the husband for being an orc and the wife for being a magic user. By getting married, it didn't really make things that much worse for them, than they were already used to.

At any rate, you head back to school and see what's what. Maybe unexpected, but there doesn't seem to be any hullabaloo about your actions. Not yet at least, they might still be deliberating about the matter.

You're not at the level that you could make a living off of your voice like a professional singer, but you're better than anyone you'd ever meet normally, and you can certainly turn heads and command the attention of a room, and capture a heart or soul or three.

So you couldn't debut on a royal opera stage, but any other stage most definitely. The smaller the venue, the greater the impact, and adoration.

At any rate, you decide to take a bench in the gardens outside the women's house with your lute and start to practice a tune, partially singing along. After some time, Vela the headmistress (perhaps hearing you) comes outside and stands by to watch with a smile. She disappears for a little bit before returning with a dulcimer and asking if she can join you? She hasn't played in a long while, but thinks together you could get something going.

Well it's not great, but it's your first time playing together and none of you are practiced players. You have fun together though and can at least hold a tune if not play a proper song. After awhile you even attract some of the other girls, who sit or stand to watch, and greatly enjoy it. You learn even that some of them can also play other instruments, which makes sense for proper and moneyed ladies, though the recurring topic is Eliza who is supposedly beautiful with a harp, though isn't present herself.

Unfortunately you also attract the attention of some of the boys who wander over, and at first it's some honest fun and admiration, but as more gather the positive vibe shifts, and after they have a laugh saying how their side of the student body is better at one more thing, music in this case. Nera ends up sending them off sternly but it does dampen the positive mood a little.

Probably the biggest thing you notice though, a few of the staff also came out to watch, and clearly enjoyed the little show and give applause.

>>

Well you're mostly wearing it usually, don't want to accidentally infect someone. You throw the rest on though in order to conceal your identity proper, and head out. You figure now is as good a time as any to check on your old hideout, but how do you want to get there? You could take the waterway, or go through the city.

>>768240
Take the waterway.

Some expediency is fine.
>>
>>768311
Very well, using a minimized flash freeze potion you make a path of ice along the riverfront (keeping against the wall so not to block boats) and travel to where your old hideout was. It takes awhile and some remembering but eventually you find the culvert opening into the waterway. Ducking down you head inside, thankfully your containment suit helping with the smell. After going a little ways though, you start to see lights, and realize that someone or something is here.

You continue onward and see the path that leads down into the catacombs beneath the city, with the torches lighting the way still. Making your way down quiet as you can, you hear from behind some commotion and try to hide, as a few guys come down the passage together laughing and carrying stuff. After they go you follow after them as far as you can, until you see something of a small encampment with most likely a gang of brigands milling about, conversing and preparing. The fellows you went after had a good amount of food and drink in the bags, which is now being distributed. It looks to you like they found, or someone found, your old hiding place and looted it and decided to settle in for as good of a place as you made it.

>What do you want to do?

You might have some methods to combat them, if you want to do so, but it seems too risky and you think you'd better retreat for now to at least come up with a plan, and possibly get help.

You return up the passageway and out the culvert to the waterfront, again using a flash freeze potion to make ice to walk on. This time though you just find a dock and make your way onto solid ground. You get some odd looks but otherwise are not impeded.
>>
>>768603
We should head home maybe we can make some more potions now that invisibility is almost done.
We did talk about cosmetic with Maggie.
Maybe start with something wrinkle related
And maybe something to slow down ageing
>>
>>768652
This and maybe try to create something to properly cure scars
>>
>>768652
You plan to head back home but along the way are stopped by a passing workman. He says it might be a long shot, but asks if you have any medical skill? His son has been suffering from an illness and wasn't sure what to do about it, but if you're an actual doctor you might be able to help? He doesn't have much to pay but would appreciate if you could just take a look maybe? He could give you dinner for your troubles.
>>
>>768690
Ugh mah morals.
>Fine I'll help and then be on my way. I don't need a reward.
That way we can avoid dinner.
>>
>>768690
Do we have any medicine-like potions on us?
>>
>>768703
You figure to help out, answering the guy who is surprised to learn you're a woman. Either way he drops what he was doing and leads you back to his house a little ways across town, continually thanking you for your agreement to help. When you get there, he leads you inside, and goes to a dark room where he wakes his son, visibly weak as the man helps the boy to sit up. He talks softly and keeps the light low, trying to tell the boy how you're here to help, and providing him with a bloody cloth to cough into (and further bloody).

>>768704
You've got some healing ones, but Alicia can make whatever potions she wants on the fly.

>What do you want to do?
>>
>>768787
Well can we cure him?
If we have the potions for it give it to him
If not let's start brewing.
>>
>>768787
Give him a healing one to see if it helps if not let's brew something more powerful
>>
>>768816
>>768854
Well it's not a magic disease, it's just tuberculosis, which you can cure but not in one simple potion go. Over a few days you can, or you can just whip up the amount that the boy will need and leave it with the father to administer.

Either way you set about brewing it up with what you've got on you and what he has available. Roll!

Not much to work with, but you manage it well enough. When you explain the medicine to him and how to treat the boy, and that it should cure him, the father thanks you and hugs you strong enough to lift you off the ground. It's unexpected, but not unwelcome, you're not used to benevolent human contact or closeness and this sort of takes you back...

He pleads for some way to repay you, even if you say you don't want payment. You don't want dinner but some money? A necklace that belonged to his late wife, or his ring?
>>
>>768991
>His ring
Sure.
Thank you kindly.

I refuse to take the necklace of his late wife though.
>>

You accept his ring as payment then, and take your leave as he thanks you profusely again.

So continue on back home again? It's early nightfall now.
>>
>>769032
Yes.
I guess we can deal with cosmetics later and turn in early.
Also
>Feel a little good about helping them.
>>
>>769043
You feel good about helping him, even if you don't intend on changing your life to suit it.

Either way you head back to Maggy's house and make some plans on possible profit makers like cosmetics. Mags had her mind off scar removal or lessener though that's a rather difficult matter to deal with. Aging, another thing since that's the ultimate expression of alchemy, immortality and of course turning things into gold. You're good, and nearly there, maybe fully with ingredients from Mags, but not that good yet.

It's the next day! Who does what?
>>
>>769169
Well Alicia should get to making combat based potions over the course of the day.
So she can wreck those criminals tomorrow.
Then let's ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL of Maggie and get ready for the feast.
>>
>>769187
Alicia sets about making the things she thinks she will need, without having to transform ideally.

You are Mags! You wake up from a fitful sleep of nightmares and feeling quite tired, but with a song in your heart at least, as you join everyone for breakfast, and over the course Vela reminds you of the fest later today, and how you can bring one or two people.

What is the roll for?

As for who to bring, Aea is going separately since she's from the same country. You can invite Beatrice along though, she'd be down. If you want to bring another person though you can.

In the meantime you go to the library, what are you looking for?
>>
>>769379
Let's search for dream related magic and creatures that can affect dreams.

And as a second let's bring... Italian ram bro.
We need to hang out with him more.

>Not bringing Fera

Im down for him tho
>>
>>769385
You search the library for things that might affect sleep and dreams. There are more than a few creatures that plague people while asleep, not as much in urban areas and as time has gone on though. Most of these sorts of things though have some sort of physical presence while inflicting nightmares on people. Given that, maybe you might be able to wake up and catch whatever it is that's plaguing your sleep? If indeed it is a thing.

As for who to bring, you can certainly go and request ram fellow to join you and beatrice, if you get your butt over there to call on him.
>>
>>769445
Then let's get our butt over there then.

And btw how's our progress on our songs?
>>
>>769455
You only just started trying to make them last night, the progress is only in the beginning stages.

Anyway you head over to the noble host's house looking for Mr. Ram, but are told he's currently at a training yard. You are offered a servant escort though to take you to him, where you approach and make yourself known. He's polite and courteous as always, and says it's been a little while, asking how you are and how you've been.

When you bring up the fest later that eve, he says he wishes he had known sooner, but can be ready in time sure, he just needs to know where to go to pick you up in order to escort you.
>>
>>769518
Well give him directions to our house..
And apologize for not warning him sooner.
We were busy with another vampire and growing a tree with magic.
>>
>>769537
The directions won't help him directly but he figures he can get a servant to lead him the way, and when you tell him the time, he says he'll be there to pick you up beforehand and to head over, and looks forward to seeing you later.

Anything else you want to do?
>>
>>769630
We should grab our lute then head home and get dressed.
And see if Alicia has any potions we can use.(and possibly shill for) for nice looks.
>>
>>769630
Can we wear that Silk Dress Arachne made for us? Or is it too formal?
>>
>>769674
It's not that it's too formal, but the fest sounds rather hectic, so you may not want to wear it to not get it ripped or stained or dirty, what have you.

>>769668
You head home to get dressed for the fest in a couple hours, your lute and Beatrice you can swing by the school with Mr. Ram after he picks you up, to go get them after before going to the fest.

While at home, Alicia remarks of your strongly unpleasant smell, but you have more important things to consider. Namely anything she might have done that could make money. Well she made some cosmetic products which you might be able to take with you and hock, however to your understanding this won't be much a noble affair so trying to sell to commoners may be hard. She does have an invisibility potion though supposedly, that is completed and ready to be tested.

>What do you want to do? You've got a couple hours before Mr. Ram shows up to escort you.

Getting pretty late and the thread is far back in pages, so I think I'll end the story when you set out to leave with Mr. Ram. Will pick it up at the start of the next thread, though I don't expect to make it until sometime Monday since I'm gone all day tomorrow.

As usual anyone can take over or fanfic stuff, and I can keep answering questions and stuff. Maybe even tomorrow I might be able to mobile respond, but not for the plot.
>>
>>769698
I just want us to have something to up our speed.
Besides a spell that uses time fuckery.
Can we even do that?
