Quest Intro

You are Mikage Chiba, second year high school student, fifteen years old. You used to be the third woman to carry the mantle of the magical guardian of love and justice known as Sailor Moon, after your mother and older sister. A year and a half ago you had a traumatic experience fighting the corpse of the father of your best friend, struggled victory leaving you thinking you had killed the
man you had set out to save and prompting you to abandon your heritage. More than that, the relating emotional collapse lead you to abandoning yourself. Developing disguises and personas to inhabit and do the things you could not in secret, to live while you let yourself wither, you carried on.

Now you know the truth and have been taking measures to put yourself back together, reconnect with old friends, and make new ones. More than that you’ve been doing your best to support your younger sister, Koyomi, as she has become the fourth to carry the title as Sailor New Moon.

However, today we might not be focusing on you...
>>
Quest Start?

You’ve been basically roaming the block for over an hour. Playing the shitty crane machine at the convenience store, reading magazines, and just deciding on something to drink while you wait bored on the corner. Drowning in annoyance and frustration, you cast your eyes down the street toward your apartment.

“What the hell crawled up her ass,” you grumble as your mind drifts back to your roommate's behavior while you swish around an overly large and square bottle of Oolong Tea, “seriously,”

This frustration is worry of course. Hanako has been acting strange ever since you took her to see that show on Friday. A ton of things had been weird…

Running a hand over the stripes on your cheek, you wince a bit. A new scar from the world you’re getting ready to leave behind. That fight was amazing and weird, but it left you with some questions.

Pulled from your thoughts as someone crosses by you in the empty street, you glance up. You had been leaning in the mouth of an alleyway, so most people passing on the street don’t pay you much or any mind. A woman walks through the street, starts going up the stairs of your building.

You recognize her, one of Hanako’s friends from that Fashion Circle. Friday night, she called her Jade. There was something familiar about her that you couldn’t place.

With a shrug, you down the rest of your tea and toss the bottle into a nearby bin.

Quest Start?

The purse you hide in is, full…

Jangly things like makeup and other things fill the space around you as you shift and try to get comfortable. Well, you shouldn’t try to get comfortable. If you get comfortable then you might fall asleep.

Falling asleep would be bad, because you should be working.

This is a sneaking mission for a sneaky cat.

Looking up through the open zipper, you offer Midori a questioning mewl as the expansive array of stars become visible to you above the rooftops of the narrow pedestrian streets through which she walks.

“Another block,” she sighs, “And then we’ll hopefully just be in and out, Diana,”

Quest Start?

Your hand snaps out and slaps your alarm before it can even blare. Once again you sit up in bed before dawn and stretch to a new day.

A new day with exciting but dangerous possibilities between school, yourself, and the things you need to do to help your friends.

Today’s morning run and workout loom ahead, though you are undecided if you’ll be doing it alone or if you’re going to include your hopefully well rested baby sister in the matter.

You've got one person here at least Art. I just don't really care which one we go with. I'm sure you'll make them all interesting.

>We’re doing Mikage because since it seems left to me, I want us to move forward and not dally on simultaneous events. I’ll cover some of the last night perspectives another time in an interlude or something.

Your hand snaps out and slaps your alarm before it can even blare. Once again you sit up in bed, its before dawn as you stretch out at the potential for a new day. Undoing the small bows tied into your long tails of hair, to prevent knotting in the night as you slept, you run your fingers through them. As tightly as your hair is coiled now atop your head these twin tails are longer than you’ve worn in the past. No matter.

A new day with exciting but dangerous possibilities waits ahead. Between school, yourself, and the things you need to do to help your friends you are going to be quite the busy girl. Between everything done yesterday, and everything learned, the day ahead will be unlike any you’ve had. Actually you aren’t sure if you should be giddy or anxious about all of that.

Getting up, you shift quickly from your pajamas to your athletic shorts and a tank top to sweat in. Today’s morning run and workout loom ahead, though you are undecided if you’ll be doing it alone or if you’re going to include your hopefully well rested baby sister in the matter.

After yesterday’s exertions, magical and emotional, she was down for the count. Striding into Koyomi’s room to check up on her, you find her in an awkward position on her bed amid a jumble and tangle of blankets and sheets. She snores with a contented look on her face as she wrings her pigtails in her sleep.

>Let her sleep, go start your day

As you shake your little sister’s shoulder she murmurs and rolls toward the wall to face away from the light of the hallway, curling deeper into the blankets and herself. There is a serene and peaceful look on her face as she does this, unperturbed by the disturbance but all the same not yet awake. Though this will not deter you.

“Hey, sleepyhead,” you sigh and shake her shoulder, pulling her out of the curl and to face both you and the light.

She groans a bit, but sits up and tries to clear the physical matter of sleep from her eyes. Craning her neck over to you, she yawns, before perking up in confusion and looking around the room.

“Weren’t we just…” she trails off as she notices where she is, “At Tomoe-san’s lab?”

“Yeah, you passed out after everything was done,” you nod and hug your sister, “And in case you forgot, we did it,”

She yawns again.

“Where’s the baby, I remember we turned her into a baby,” she questions as she untangles herself from her blankets and sheets before swinging herself out of bed.

As she rises beside you, she notices just how long her hair is and takes a moment to marvel at it.

“Dad and Luna are taking care of her right now,” you explain and stand up beside your little sister, “Judging from the lack of noise she’s sleeping soundly,”

Koyomi nods and then smiles to herself.

“So, we turned a clone of our grandma into a baby sister?” she laughs in the predawn darkness, and notices the dark beyond her window, “Oh, it’s still early?”

“Yup, Monday morning,” you nod firmly, “Care to join me for a run or jog? Whichever speed you’re comfortable with,”

She goes rigid, and turns back to face you slowly.

“Didn’t we just do one together yesterday?” she questions.

“Yeah, but consistency is key to making it worth the effort,” you shake your head and smile.

Your little sister’s shoulders slump a bit, but she nods. Before long the two of you are out in the quiet world that for the longest time been your secret balm. Jogging through the morning streets, without further complaint from your little sister but noticeable effort instead, the two of you make your route. Breaking and getting water in a nearby park, before looping back around to the back yard where you bring her through a quiet cool down routine.

As she lay sprawled in the grass of your mother’s garden, she stares up at the shifting color of the sky as it settles into a familiar and vibrant blue.
>>

“This is getting easier,” she surmises looking over to where you run through a few more stretches, “Or you went easy on me today,”

“A little bit of both, probably,” you reason as a black cat leaps from the cherry blossom tree in the back of the yard and pads past the two of you.

“Good morning girls,” Luna beams, “Koyomi, I see Mikage’s good habits are rubbing off on you,”

“What!? No! I’m coerced into this!” her stark denial brings you to a short laugh.

“Anyhow, allow me to make the two of you some breakfast,” she thinks to herself before leaping over the porch bench and into the kitchen.

Soon enough, the two of you are fed, cleaned, and ready for the day ahead. You let Koyomi know you already have a lead on a near to activating monster that the two of you could try to take care of after school.

“It’s your friend, Minami-san, isn’t it?” she questions, remembering the briefing from the day before.

“Yeah, I had the others scout the matter last night while the two of us were in recovery,” you explain, “I’ll know more when I sit down with Midori later today,”

Before you head off today, you want to check in with your father and the baby. Perhaps curious just to see the kid and see how he’s handling all of this. After finishing gathering your supplies for the day, you step out into the hallway and poke your head into the open door of your parents’ room. Your father stands in front of the closet mirror, having just finished tightening his tie.

“Oh, morning Mikage,” he offers you a smile as you take in the rest of the room, which now includes a familiar portable crib at the foot of the bed.

“Morning dad,” you say and step into the room, looking down into the crib to see the sleeping child, “I didn’t know you and mom still had this,”

“Yeah, well your mother was always quite resistant to parting with your and Koyomi’s baby things,” he sighs and laughs, sitting on the bed near the crib, “It was easier to bring this out of storage last night than to reassemble the full crib. That’s a project for after work tonight,”

He looks down into the crib after the child as well, a somber look on his face.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” he assures before falling in thought for a moment, “Hmm, even with limited direct communication with your mother, do you think we can get away with not telling her about this until she’s home?”

You glance at him, leery of his intentions.

“Why?” you question with a hesitant dubiousness, mostly because you aren’t used to your father thinking in anyway that you perceive as irresponsible or with any prankster’s intent.

“Just to see her jump to conclusions when I start to explain,” he laughs, earnestly and heartily, and sighs, “No, that won’t do...maybe I’m not fine,”

Sitting on the bed next to your father, your eyes shift to an expression of worry.

“Though if I’m not fine now, I will be,” he ruffles your hair, “And I’m very proud of what you and Koyomi did together,”

Mute in response, taking a moment to bask in your father’s expression of pride, you hardly notice when he gets up and slides into his suit jacket.

“Now then, would you and Koyomi like me to drive you to school on my way to work?”

“Sure,” you nod, “And she’ll really appreciate it since I brought her out on a run this morning,”

Heading downstairs, you pass Luna in her human form, she grabs your father aside for a quick word while you collect your sister. You find her downstairs on the couch with her things, absentmindedly flipping through her sketchbook and lost in thought.

She looks up from her book, as you approach from behind the couch, and extends a leg to test the flexion of her ankle.

“If I leave now, maybe I can walk slowly and arrive just in time?” she muses to herself as she slides the paper into her bag as her tone takes a certain whine as she complains to herself, “Going to take a bit to get used to starting up so early,”

“You’ll adapt,” you snap up from behind and catch Koyomi in a hug over the back of the couch, “though for today dad just offered to drive us to school. That should save your legs for now,”

“Ah!” she yelps out in surprise and then laughs with you as the good mood that seems to fill you this morning proves infectious.

You have been in a good mood all morning. Even with the looming threat one of your friend’s may be under, you just feel so light today. The two of you turn as your father comes down the stairs, him beckoning for the two of you to follow him out to the car. To your surprise, Koyomi is a blur of blonde trailing tails as she slips down and out of your grasp toward the door with a particular declaration.

“Shotgun!” she claims as she clambers into her shoes.

The ride is short, especially compared to your usual walk, and you only catch sight of the earliest among your and Koyomi’s school mates on their morning marches toward the campus. Koyomi, leaning back in the passenger seat ahead of you, has already fallen back to sleep with her school bag on her lap. Normally you might be envious of her ability to roll with strange changes or new developments in your less than ordinary lives, but right now you almost feel the same way.

Stopping where the road starts to turn away from the mostly pedestrian way ahead, your father lets the two of you out with your respective institutions in sight. Parting ways from the two of them with a wave, you make your way through the gate and toward the first floor shoe lockers to trade your flats for your class slippers...though you happen upon something unexpected that stops you cold at the corner of your row and brings out your more pragmatic instincts.

Mio Nomura is standing in front of your shoe locker, closing it. There are a few other students here already, though her specifically is a moment of concern. Just last week she fell prey to the enemy, and her own magnified dark impulses of obsession lead to her transformation into some kind of spider queen monster that possessed the majority of the school. Prior to all out violence, while in this state she lead a several day long social campaign against you and Kairi for daring to be friends with the object of her then obsession Keiko Sugimoto.

What is she doing in front of your shoe locker?

>Assume nothing malicious, greet her like a normal person

>Wait for her to leave before cautiously checking your locker
>Sneak up behind her, and wait for her to turn around

She seems nervous about something, as she glances down the row and begins to walk away from your recently shut locker. Stepping out into the row without trying to hide yourself, you draw her attention immediately as her head whips around with the rest of her to face you. Realizing it’s you, she freezes. A palpable anxiety and fear spread across her face.

“Good morning, Nomura-san,” you greet in a friendly manner, “Are you feeling better today?”

You make no mention that this isn’t her row, or question what she was doing at your locker. Whether she has done anything or not is irrelevant, besides you don’t think she is up to anything. There is a noticeable quality to the emotions playing on her face after you greet her, shame and guilt, but her eyes never dart back to your locker and stay firmly on you.

“I…” she starts but loses steam toward any kind of finishing she clasps her hands together low in front of her and dips her head, breaking eye contact in a shallow bow, “Good morning, Chiba-san. Please excuse me,”

She turns, sharply, not raising her head. She’s already wearing her indoor slippers as she makes a quick break away from you and the quiet space between you. She clearly wasn’t feeling better. And as you sigh and open your locker without hesitation, fearing nothing she could have attempted, you find a note atop your slippers.

Looking after the direction she ran, you quietly change out of your shoes and open the letter. The paper is from a stationary set to be sure, not monogramed but clearly with logos and designs in the margins to mean its paper with a purpose. You’ve had a few sets like that, the kind of paper you save to scribe a handwritten letter of some personal weight or value. You imagine very few girls your age don’t have paper like this, and know its use is in some way rationed by consideration and social convention.

Opening the fold of the paper, it's almost entirely blank save for the center. Kanji and Hiragana, in a single phrase slowly writ and assembled with clear intent.

“Moushiwake arimasen deshita,” you read aloud the most formal tense and form of apology offered for what has been done, and look off again after the way she ran.

Its unsigned, though you understand why she might not have wanted to sign it. She wanted to hurt you and Kairi, and she was turned into something and stewing on those feelings for at least a few days with a certain laser focus.

Well, you’re happy you trusted your instincts. Maybe you’ll seek her out later. Wouldn’t do much to chase her down about this right now.

>Go wait in class for homeroom to start

Heading into the building and climbing an extra flight of stairs, you decide it might be nice to talk to one of your normal friends in Nui Takeda, and stop on the top floor. Coursing through the halls toward the student government room, you find the door open. Not out of the ordinary given the time of day, what is out of the ordinary is the audible cursing coming from within.

Popping your head in, you indeed find the Student Council President, though she seems a touch in disarray. She is stomping around the room and yelling at the phone held in front of her face between her hands. Despite her perfectly miniature stature, she manages to make this tantrum seem intimidating.

“Teal, you okay?” you fall the rest of the way into the room and grab her attention, unafraid of using her nickname while there seems to be no one else around.

“Miki!” her eyes widen as you enter and she practically pounces on you as she all but shoves the screen of her phone in your face, “Have you seen this?!”

She doesn’t stop talking as you quickly read a private message to the fashion circle’s Lurk chat. From Flowers, Hanako Minami.

“Can you believe this?” she bemoans.

Something about outgrowing this childishness.

“After everything we’ve been through together,” she hollers.

New opportunities to define and express herself.

“You need to fix this, this is probably because you’re always naysaying her!” she demands.

And how you’ve all been holding her back...

“You don’t think this is because of me, is it?” she pleads.

“I, no, Teal. I don’t think this is because of you,” you hand the phone back to the excitable and upset upperclassman, “I mean, this is Flowers were talking about,”

It really isn’t her fault. Hell it isn’t really Minami-san’s fault, but the darkness that possesses her.

Nui Takeda is whipping through a miss matched staging of grief far too quickly. The worst thing she could do right now is-

“I can’t let this stand,” she declares as her fingers explode into motion on her phone while her brow creases in a pained intent.

“Takeda-san, no!” you cry out with start that draws her attention back up to you.

“Eh?” she queries, thumbs raised off the screen.

“I mean, Teal, you can’t just jump down her throat now!” you explain as you grab the smaller girl’s shoulders, “You’ll just justify her choice and she’ll dig her heels in,”

She bites her lip and then pouts. Mulling over your words and then exhales in a way that seems to somehow deflate further her already miniscule frame.

“True,” she straightens her posture and sets the phone on the table, “So I better not drive her away before I figure out how to get her back! Sorry you had to see me acting so unseemly, wait. Did you need to talk to me about something?”

“Oh yeah,” you shrug, “Just wanted to say good morning and I guess talk about things,”

“Anything specific?”

“Well, if I should be aware of anything now that we’re back to school after everything that happened last week,” you feign embarrassment, “And I just wanted to see how you were doing after everything,”

“Well, the principal has something for this morning’s opening announcements,” she explains as she straightens her skirt and composes herself, “And there are going to be counseling services offered during club time today,”

You nod as she gives one last look at her phone, and closes out of the chat window before shoving the bedazzled cased communications device into her pocket. Her eyes look back up to you seriously, and then with a soft embarrassment all their own.

“And, thanks for checking up on me....how am I doing! How are you doing?! They were coming after you!” she stamps a foot and immediately loses the composure she just regained.

“I’m fine, really,” you offer with raised hands and presented palms, “I’ve got amazing support from my friends and family right now...and I totally caught Nomura-san leaving an apology in my locker,”

The small girl looks you up and down, before nodding firmly.

“Alright, if you’re sure you’re doing okay,” she slumps down in her chair.

“Awesome, oh! There was one more thing,” you start to turn to leave but have to settle both your curiosity and distract Nui from her anger just a touch more, “How are things between you and-”

“Endo-kun!” she perks up and out of her chair to her feet, looking past you.

Speak of the Ogre and he shall appear.

Filling the height of the open door to the room behind you is the largely built boy with a few thick reams of paper in his hands.

“Morning Takeda-san, oh, morning Chiba-san,”

This will be difficult, resisting teasing both of them when you well know they might be in a position to tease you right back. Well, Nui maybe. Endo-kun is too soft hearted for that kind of thing as far as you’re aware.

Resume

“Morning,” you wave to the boy before shooting a sly smile back toward Nui.

Her excitement is undercut by your presented teeth, though she smiles right back as you and her eyes take on a more sinister glare. The shorter girl brushes past you, as only a friend who plans to show off can, toward the larger boy. Who is, you note, relatively confused by the exchange between the two of you.

“I’ll take those, Endo-kun,” she says with a certain lack of nonsense as she holds out her hands, expecting to be handed the papers, at her own waist level.

The taller boy nods and casually presents the papers. Though confused when she doesn’t raise her arms to meet him. Leaning over to set the papers in her waiting hands, he has no chance to react as she pitches up on the tip toes of her slippers and kisses him on the cheek.

“Thank you, Daigo,” she says in a singsong voice with a saccharine pitch that matches her diminutive stature as she turns away with the papers toward the table, and then shoots you a confident smirk.

“Ah! Takeda-san!” Endo-kun stumbles worriedly, glancing at you, “I thought you wanted us to keep this-”

“I’m flighty,” she shrugs before smiling broadly, practically beaming in how pleased she is with seemingly herself, “Thank you for the advice the other night, Chiba-san. Does that answer your question?”

“Yes, yes it does,” you respond as the first of several morning bells chime.

“Well, I’ve got some other stuff to take care of this morning,” you nod to the two of them, “I’ll see you both later,”

Navigating your way around the still confused Daigo Endo, you make your way through the hallway and down to the first floor where the teacher and administrative offices are. Stepping through the desk filled room where most of the teachers are preparing for the day, you come before the administrative offices. The secretary isn’t out front and the Principal’s door is open.

You have business with Principal Sakurada. Well, standing business and new business. There is the matter of your academic withdraw or partial withdrawal and independent study, but there is also just checking up on her after last week’s monster related trauma.

To say nothing of the fact that she’s Yoshi’s mother.

Complications. Wait, she had asked you to check in on her son when you spoke last week.

Oh well, you’ve come this far.

And so you poke your head in, to see Principal Sakurada leaning over some papers and scribbling with some speed and intent. Be it some kind of memo or signature, you aren’t sure.

“Morning Principal Sakurada,” you call out as you step out into the doorway of her office.

“Oh, good morning,” she looks up and takes off her reading glasses, “Chiba-san, not surprising to see you this morning. I have a base proposal for your partial withdrawal writ and being reviewed for approval, and I’m meeting with your father on Wednesday,”

>Oh, thank you Principal Sakurada, what’s the proposal?
>Actually, I just wanted to see how you were doing after last week
>I wanted to talk to you a bit more about how Yoshi’s doing
>Write in

Work done, awaiting ride. No bugs fixed, for the most part. More robust engine, so running is smoother and new options for modders to potentially work with.

“Oh, thank you Principal Sakurada,” you bow your head a bit, “Though I was just here to see how you were doing after everything that happened last week,”

“Really, well then thank you, Chiba-san. I appreciate your concern,” she nods and beckons to one of the seats in front of her desk, “You don’t need to worry about me, I’ve had my share of strange monster experiences,”

“That’s good to hear,” you say and take the offered seat, eying the bowl of candy she keeps at the visitor side of her desk, “Well, since you brought it up, what’s the proposal,”

She shrugs and puts the papers she was dealing with aside.

“Oh, mostly just independent studies with weekly check ins,” she explains, “Along with campus facilities access, clubs, and electives. The board is considering it as a way to increase technical enrollment from families who normally homeschool,”

She spends time going over the specific details with you over the terms of this partial withdrawal, though she seems hesitant.

“I just want you to know that this is all just an option now,” she says with a certain frankness, “I think you’re making great progress now, and don’t want to see you backslide because you’re setting yourself apart from people,”

“Yeah, well you said it was my choice, right Principal?”

“Yes,” she nods and leans back in her chair as you grab a sweet strawberry chew still wrapped in the bowl.

The bell rings. Your cue to head to class before the final bell. Excusing yourself, you rise and make your way to homeroom. Offering a good morning to Toriko-sensei as he sorts the last of his morning business among the other teachers in the shared office space.
