Hello and welcome to the third installation of Shadowrun Quest !
Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=Shadowrun

We have some new rules on the quest after a popular vote to switch from d100 to rules light Shadowrun !
Rules in a nutshell http://pastebin.com/ReTT1NP6
Frazzle/Balthazar's character sheet http://pastebin.com/MSTzSmdU

You are the Great Naga Balthazar (or Frazzles to your close friends), and moments ego you were enjoying a tasty steak cooked by your ward/owner and daughter of the -now presumed dead- CEO of the megacorporation Ares Macrotchnlologies , Alina Knight.

After an assassination attempt on your owner, you realized the paradise resort you have spent the last week was a deathrap for highly ranked Ares personel. After storming the boat of the mastermind behind the attack along with a team of hired shadowrunners, you found out the reason behind the attack. It was orchestrated by the Ares Internal Security Services, led by the nephew of Arthur Vogel, the second largest stockholder of Ares.
Apparently, the middle man from A.I.S.S. was acting under some insane orders that Alina, along with everyone else in the island resort, were infected with CFD, virus based on nanomachines that slowly override the host's personality with that of a malicious AI. Combined with the fact that her father's shuttle crashed and he is considered dead, you clearly saw a conspiracy aimed at the takeover of Ares.
Currently you have decided to join the shadowrunners (who are rightfully pissed at being the pawns in a megacorporate scheme), and you are on their (recently stolen ) yacht, on your way for Hong Kong. Alina plans to do temporarily enter the shadowrunning business to fund her imminent revenge against Vogel.

But that is currently the least of concerns, as currently Alina is stated down by a soaked, naked she-elf. Said elf is also a shapeshifter, that ate people for insulting her. So you are *very* stressed about the whole situation.

She's not grinning, she's baring her triangular fangs. Animal instincts give you a whole different point of view on how expressions work. Alina does not recognize it for what it is, and she smiles awkwardly at her, unbeknownst that she was worsening the situation.

"Who are you to steal my meat ?" The elf asks, making small steps towards her, exuding an aura of calm fury. She looks angry, but not chummer-ill-bash-your-face angry.

"I-ill get you a new one when we reach Hong Kong ?" Alina suggests meekly, making a tiny step backwards, her smile slowly fading.

"This meat cost a lot of money to me" The elf replies "Tchalla had to work hard for that ! If you no pay for meat, ill have *Yours* "

>Attempt to diffuse the situation. Assume responsibility . Swear you will get her meat meat (Negotiation+Charisma).
> A crazy animal person threatening Alina ? Hell No. Put her back in her place (charisma+intimidation )
> Alina can handle this, but keep an eye out in case this turns ugly so you can intervene

Not just a glitch, a critical glitch.
>>
>>74842
Can we just remind her that we need meat to survive (presumably) and have not eaten in a while? She can hunt fish in the ocean, we cannot (presumably).

We scored a hit, though; that's not a crit glitch.

Options, not name.

Sorry for missing anyone, i had a thing. I.E too much booze and woke up a few hoursa ago with a huge hangover. Give me some time and i'll write up the response.

So as of now you have zero hits (a hit is a 5 or 6), but it's not a glitch (needs at least half of the total dice pool to be 1s for a glitch) . Would you like to spend edge on it to reroll the dice ?
Current Edge: 3

You regain 1 point of Edge per in game day, and by doing bold, brave, or downright hilarious acts.

Two hits, not a glitch, yes? Seems better.

"Don't blame her..." You begin, slithering between her and Alina before something happens. You look directly into her eyes, try to appear firm, but not threatening.
The she-elf stares at you in a strange way, hiding her fangs. "Why should i not ?" She asks "She took my meat, no ?".
"Becaussse i wasss the one that asssked her to" You reply quickly, your tongue getting out of your mouth for a moment to sniff around "I cannot hunt in the water like you, and i can only consssume real meat. Neither of usss knew that meat was yoursss..."
The skinchangers scowls at you. "Excuses and excuses. YOu could hunt if you wanted to, it's not that hard. You are lazy for a predator "
Now that was just plain rude. "Very well." you say calmly, bowing your head "If nothing elssse can shake you off, i promissse that once we reach port, i ssshal give you the double amount of meat we took from you. Doesss that ssound fair ?"
The shapeshifter looks back and forth between you and Alina. "I shall place trust in your word, Slitherer. You better keep it." She then approaches closely a deeply unnerved Alina. You are ready to act in case she does something aggresive, but she seems to only sniff at her. "You smell nice" she simply says, walking outside and ignoring ALina's protests or questions.
"Wh...what's her deal ?" She asks, a mix of afraid, embarassed and confused
>Sssshe's ssstrange, but sssseems capable and ussseful. Perhapssss if you warm up to her ssshe'll be more friendly
>Jusssst don't mind her and sssshe won't mind you
>Sssshe's creepy, i'll tell her to sssstay away from you

>Sssshe's ssstrange, but sssseems capable and ussseful. Perhapssss if you warm up to her ssshe'll be more friendly
Also inquire about the price of real meat in Hong Kong. Dunno much about the SR world but if coffee beans were replaced with soy-caf then meat might not be in a better spot.
>>
>>84274
>strange, but capable and useful

>>84504
In /tg/'s /srg/, someone shared a story where they blew up a building that had been breeding and raising cows via machines and VR to be perfect in every way to drive others out of business. Plus, considering metahumans, dragons, and uplifteds might not necessarily take kindly to no meat, there's probably meat.
>>
>>84581
>>84504
A soyburger in SR costs 1 nuyen
A deluxe burger with vat grown meat costs 10." Real " food is considered a delicacy that middle class eats once a week. I'd say two steaks of non vat grown meat would be about 100 nuy, far less if its vat grown
>>
>>84581
I meant meat might be expensive due to high demand and difficulties in raising them.
>>
>>84701
I have a feeling that the she-elf prefers the 'real' stuff. 100 nuyen, we should be able to afford that with a run or 2 (if successful) no?
>>
>>84274
>I'd sshrug if i had ssshoulders.By the way, we need to talk about how we are going to drain our accounts of nu yen.
>>
"Ssssshe is ssstrange I admit" You claim as you watch her disappear "But sssshe uses ussseful, if a bit unpredictable. I'm ssure you can warm up to her if you try."
"Making friends with an animal that can turn into a human...." Alina says slowly, sighing in the end "Things are getting weirder and weirder"

Two pairs of footsteps are heard as both Jax and Baxter descend on the lower deck, with Jax holding an ammonia bag on his left eye, and the orc seeming quite bummed.
"We...we came to an agreement" Jax announces to you, glaring at Baxter "Welcome to the team I guess".

"I don't like this so i'll make it short" Baxter continues "Hong Kong as any other spawrl, has a drekton of cameras. Its unavoidable we'lo be caught in one of those. Thankfully due to the massive amount of corp fuckery going around in the city, data Balkanization is massive. As in, those cameras belong to hundreds of independent companies that are unwilling to give it up easily. Also, given you have a corp SIN, it is highly unlikely anything but Ares subsidiaries will recognize you, you'll just pop blank in their records otherwise"
"But as you probably know, its better to be safe than sorry" Jax picks up from where Baxter ended "There is a small than existent chance you'll show up to a camera that will pick up your SIN. And if that camera is being watched by somebody, it's going to be really bad for us as you can imagine. Also the fact that a massive snake is not exactly normal in these parts".
"Plan's simple enough" Jax says as he checks his commlink "I contacted some of my friends in the Triads. When we make port, they'll be waiting with a container with a Farday Cage. Port control won't see drek. Then they'll deliver you to our little place. Its a no-call zone for the police, and there are no cameras for a long while. And trust me, where we goin' at, you two won't be batting an eye. Any questions ?"

>Anything to suggest/ask ?
>>
>>85361
Ask about the she-elf's meat, like if it's vat grown, synthetic or the 'real' stuff. Then ask how to acquire it at where we're going.
>>
>>85361
Ask if they know a way to gain access to our nuyen accounts when we arive.
>>
>>85495
I think that, regardless of what it was, she's going to tell us it was real.
>>
>>85721
eh after the whole schtick about testing us about lying and given her more animalistic nature I'd say she's not the type to lie for petty gains.
>>
>>85361
isss there any way to make oursselvesss usseful in the meantime?
>>
You first ask the important matter. "I am unfamiliar with the banking sssystem. How can we retrieve resourcessss from Alina'sss account once we are there ?"
Jax Shrugs."Hard to say Omae. Directly hacking them is out of the question. Given the level of security, they have, it probably needs SIN confirmation, and every transaction will be registered"
Alina shakes her head. "Not all of them. Dad had some accounts secret from Ares, for security. Only Zurich Orbital knows about it. I have access to one of them, but requires voice confirmation and a password on a Zurich Terminal"
Jax covers his face with his palm."Only one of these in HK, the walled city. Hard drek to get in, but doable if you have the right connections. We might be able to smuggle you in...but don't expect to waltz in as soon as we arrive"
"Underssstood" You quickly reply, then consider the minor issue "On an unrelated note...how much doesssss a piece of real meat cossst ?"
Baxter groans at your question. "You a full carnivore like her, aren't you ? Well tough titty chummer, real meat costs a drekton. Around a hundred buy a kilo of the real deal, twenty for vat grown. She told me the latter tastes very bad but that's what ill buy for you until next run. Sorry reptile, but we just missed a wiz payment and well have to break even"

We kind of need to suck up to her here.
>>
>>87143
>Ask about their average jobs
Shark-girl's probably pissed at us, and would likely see right through an attempt to be more friendly. Plus, it'd be nice to know first about how long it might be before we can pay off our meat-debt.
>>
>>87223
Ask about their average job.
We are NOT shadowrunners. Hence, we need to learn what it entails.
>>
>>87272

>>
"Anything else ?" Baxter asks, a bit annoyed "I haven't got all day"

"Yessss in fact, if you don't mind" you quickly responded "We have heard many thingsss about sssshadowrunning, but not exactly what their jobssss entail most of the time"
The ork sighs in an effort to control his temper. "You know what ? Ill be upstairs, you handle the newbies Jax" he utters as he walks up to the bridge.

"Forgive him, he....he didn't take Zack's loss as wiz as me" Jax says in an apologizing tone as be sits by the couch.
Alina frowns "He pretended to be in love with me and then tried to kill me. Not feeling really sorry, and I don't feel the need to apologize for it"
Jax shrugs as he picks up a bag of soychips . "Nobody asked you omae. Now, back to your question. Shadowrunning has a certain image in the media, that's one hundred percent bulldrek. Let me tell you what real running is like. In essence, runners are deniable, semi untraceable assets up for hire by virtually anyone, only their code limits it. Anyone who wants to do dirty work but don't want to take the blame for it hires us instead."
He throws a chip in the air and catches it with his mouth before continuing. "Runner jobs are very diverse, but they do have some loose categories. First is good old theft, whether it's data, cutting edge tech, or just plain old material wealth, maybe even some far weirder drek. A subcategory of theft is the extraction, where you get a living target away from a well guarded facility of shorts, whether he likes it or not. Then there is the heavy stuff. Destruction, big or small, lots of people would pay to get something off an auction list, or the map. Straight up wetwork, the kind of job we uhh.... Took with you I suppose, pretty omeone gotta die. And its polar opposite, protection. And those ain't even the surface. The more you run, the weirder and more complicated the runs get. I have been planting evidence on crime scenes, delivering vat grown meat to infected, or even tracking down an escaped Bunraku doll for the Yaks"

"So...you do whatever job cones up ?" Alina asks, raising an eyebrow at the hacker.

Jax shakes his head as he empties the small soychip bag." Nah, some jobs carry too much of a stain, both in your rep and your mind. I was offered to extract a newborn baby from its mama's hold once, something about genetech. Pay was pretty big but...even ol' Jax got standards'

Find the Johnson's cabin. See if there's anything useful about that we can either fence in HK, or use to arm Alina. It's doubtful he brought any currency or valuables he didn't need for the run, but it never hurts to check.

Regarding disguises for Alina, how about:
AR contact lenses (so that retina scans get spoofed because the circuitry interferes with the scanning of blood vessels)
AR gloves
Cosmetic elf ears (to spoof ear comparison scans)

Not sure what to do with facial recognition besides using specific haircuts and makeup patterns that are known to confuse facial pattern recognition algorithms.
