You are Luc Maddison-Remy, Son and Attendant of Mayor-Captain Matthieu Remy. You have had a strange few days since your father took you to deal with some kind of emergency. He barely talked to you for the full ride since you were both pushing your enigmas to the limit. But that was okay, you were going to your first actual adventure as an Attendant!

Only it didn't go as planned. You found out the villain was defeated but not without cost and even met up with the heroines who saved your father's town. You made friends with Purps and trained with her while finding out the other was in a coma... but then your Dad got really angry and then you all had to leave.

You aim the light at the statue of (what you assume to be) Minerva in the corner of the room. It's small, barely the length of your forearm. So it takes a bit of precision. But eventually you hear mechanisms slam into place and a bunch of dirt and dust spits out from the wall to your left as it rises. Revealing a beautifully tiled room. Three doors lead off of it and you pump your fist in the air.

You step off to investigate only for the cieling trapdoor to slam shut again. Once the light is gone the wall also snaps back into place in around seven seconds.

Oh right. The light needs to be maintained to keep it open.

You run off and find Purps. She's really out of it. You nudge her, then nudge her again. She stirs and moans a name you don't recognize. You frown as she rolls over on the pew.

The gunfire outside the temple is still going on.

You grab onto the sleeve of her outfit and you pull yanking Purps to the floor where she lands on her face with an echoing thud. A saw flies in your general direction and you stop time with a squeak.

You don't unpause until you are at least twelve feet from her, and you silently let Purps pick herself up. You hear some not nice language as she does.

Maybe dropping her onto solid rock didn't put her in the best mood.

"Hey Purps! I know you're tired and all but you know the vault well I did a thing with the light and then it did a thing and made a noise like."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahTyGckSJqw

"Do do do do do dit" You pause wondering if she'll get that, yeah she got it. "So then a door opened but the light needs to stay on the thing or else the door closes again and if I timestop I'll get locked in plus I only have seven seconds in real time which means I probably couldn't just leg it." You finish grinning.

"So, you opened the vault but need someone to keep it open?" She says rubbing her eyes. Her voice is emotionless as ever "Sure. Just get Hona, you're not going in alone."

You nod and watch as she stretches, lifting both her arms straight up and leaning back - her back and arms clack in a chorus of tension and stiffness being released. You catch a flash of ab and notice a ragged scar up her side.

She catches you look and you try to look away, noticing the claws at her hips as you do, "Luc. I gotta pee, get Hona so we can get into this vault already."

You run down the aisle feeling happy and hopeful. You guys are gonna go loot a vault together, you figured out Minerva's puzzle! She'd be totally impressed.

Well, when you run out into the entrance way you see Hona impaling a wolfman right through the neck. It snarls despite it's lethal wounds and she fires six rounds into his head from her automatic weapon.

Three swarm her before the beast is even off her blade and she makes the claws look startlingly slow with slight adjustments to her head. Her sole eye is always moving and analayzing, she jumps and slams her feet into a wolfman behind her - springing off his chest into a frontflip which bisects one of the two in front of her.

She sings a little song as she lands on her toes and bounces to arrest her momentum. Reloading her sub machine gun she watches as the many corpses she's left get back up. "I don't get angry very often Volfies! So thank you for letting me" A wolf leaps her with jaws wide, only to chew down on around thirty four bullets worth of lead. The corpse stumbled forward only to recieved six quick thrusts to the chest and stomach. "vent." She finishes.

She's facing off with eight wolfmen and one of the big ones without a way to put them down. More than that she's happy that they wont die. Honamurei is scary.

You breathe out and the world is covered in blue, you always wonder why your enigma makes everything blue. But that isn't important as you watch an alpha wolfman pause mid howl.

You see flesh blood sotp it's coagulation, spit stop in the air, wolfmen kicking up puddles of blood and stepping in their own spilled guts stop, clean in the air.

The antechamber is beautifully still and silent, it reminds me of one of the things that your father would paint. But it's time to ruin that.

You line up on the alpha. Shoot.
Your eyesight blurs
You line up on the alpha again. Shoot.
Your ears are ringing
You line up on the wolfmen on Hona's blindside. Inhale. Exhale. Shoot.
You stumble as your enigma ends and your nose begins bleeding.

Time resumes with three shots ringing out in chrous, a beautiful explosion of noise that distracts the wolfmen and Hona.

Not only that; the alpha's head is shredded, even as it is bodily tossed from your second shot.

The Wolfman on Hona's left pretty much melts from the force of your shot. Honamurei looks at you briefly before she moves amidst them, taking advantage of your distraction in a whilrwind of rapier slashes that are too quick for you to follow.

You lower your aim and shout to Honamurei; "It's time to go Hona!"

She instead decapitates one of her opponents and pistol whips another. You're not sure if she heard you - "Honamurei! We neeeeed to go!" You practically scream, your voice only slightly breaking.

"LUC I am fine vhere I am!" Hona says as she stabs a wolfman in the chest with a foot keeping another at bay. She turns and looks at you from her position of relative safety and stalemate, "Volves are very good for adjusting to new eye yes?!"

You moan out loud, "But we have stuff to do in here! We need your help!"

Ger shoulders sag for a second before she used her sword as a lever to throw her imapeld wolf into all the others. She casually walks back though she looks reluctant as she casually walks towards you.

Looking at the carnage she wrought... you're quite happy she's on your side. One of the weaker runty looking wolfmen makes ready for a pounce.

You pull your rifle to your shoulder, holding your breath. You don't have a shot yet, Hona's blocking it.

But you track it's movements and as it pounces you shout a semi coherent warning to Hona, as the wolfman's jaw seems to dislocate impossibly wide. It soars through the air with arms splayed, ready to clamp down even as it claws your friend to pieces.

But you fire, sending a bullet right down the thing's throat. The impact sends it flipping backwards comically. It almost catches Hona on the way down with it's clawed foot, but she continues walking after only a moment of hesistation. Crossing the ward line into the temple proper without a scratch, she rubs your head ash she passes. "Good shot Luc!" She chirps.

You follow her grumbling at the headpat. Purps is standing on the switch thing.

She's sexually frustrated. Or unhinged from the Rocky Frank Show (or both), if being a wolfman is transmissible in battle or bears some other disease. While being confident in her reflexes and her desire to "train with one eye", it could've turned ugly.

She should know by now that the people she's travelling with aren't adequate to fit those needs. Let her have some time at the next town that has decent people.

Still, an interesting moment out of her ususal character, on the other side of the spectrum than when she's Marie.

The girls begin having a conversation and you do your best to respect their privacy, but Purps' chiding and Hona's chirping aren't really hard to overhear.

You get to work, coughing politely until the two ladies give you their attention. Then you explain; "So we thought about the light needing to be reflected. Turns out we were right and only needed to reflect it to the statue of Minerva.... like so." You show off reflecting the with the scope.

"Well done Luc." Purps says with an odd smile, "Now you're not going in on your own. So one of us has to keep the light on the statue." She scratches behind her ear.

"It's your choice Luc! You're the one who solved it after all!" Hona beams.

"Purps could you ask Minerva what else is in there. In case we need anyone's speciality in particular?"

"Sure on second." She looks like she's trying to read something far away for a second. Hona reloads her gun and fixes her vest. "Well, she says that the only other challenge depends on what each of us requests." She shrugs "That's all I got. Maybe it's something like it'd test a wizard on magic but a weightlifter on strength?"

"Vhy Vould she let us choose? Surely that means ve are stacking the deck?" Hona wonders aloud.

"Huh, so I guess it gives us a different guardian depending on what we choose right? It can't have one person who can run as fast as a sprinter and magic as good as Master Lexington right?"

You're greeted by a pair of shrugs.

"We could stand around guessing and theorizing or we could get it done." Purps says.

You frown and consider who your companion will be;

"Hona, Purps has a way to create light. Plus she's probably tired from her fight with Frank." The two women frown, "Plus you seem bored and want to be active. So let's do this!" You offer her a high five as a chorus of howls erupt in the entrance cave.

The smack of flesh on flesh and your matching grins barely drowns out the
answering howls... sounds like there's a lot more wolfmen than before.

But it isn't long before the door is reopened and you and Honamurei enter the exquisite tiled room beyond it.

No arrows fly from the walls and no pits of spikes appear. Just a door to the front, one to the left and one to the right.

You both go forward and open the old stone door with a bit of effort. You both stride forth and a small figure in ancient looking armour stands there. To the left of him is a small corridor, that is almost pitch black.
"Good evening." The man says, "Though I believe it's more morning now. It's rare that people come to the right door right away." He says politely. You notice that his back is hunched and what's left of dreadlocks is absolute snow white.

"Uhm." You say as Hona puts her hand on her sword.

"Oh don't worry. This isn't the actual test though I am the guardian. I'll be seeing you soon shortly I'm sure." He smiles in a fatherly sort of way before fading away.

You shrug and Hona heads into the tunnel. You follow close behind noting how much smaller this tunnel is than the door. Pitch black too, it's like one of those caves that legendary heroes go into to find swords. Except without the dragons. Or the ominous dripping water. Or the breathing of strange creatures seeming to stalk your every step. Oh and it's immaculately tiled instead of natural rock.

You hear the Vault door slam shut. That's not great.

"Should we go back?" You ask, turning round and feeling Hona's breath on your neck.

"Ve have no way to get back. Ve have to trust Purps." She answers finding your hand in the dark and leading you further into the tunnel. You think you see a branch coming in from your left, but you have a question.

"So what do you think this test will be?" You ask as you both march in the darkness. You try to supress a giggle when you realize Purps would have to hunch her head in this tunnel.

"Ve might be taken into our heads again! Just like Minerva did to us before!" She chrips, "I at least hope it is divverent illusion."

"Yeah she pretended to be my mother. But then when I worked it out I got to see what she really looked like!" You smile into the darkness and her hand squeezes your gently.

"Vhy your mother?" She asks,

"I think because I can't remember her, but looking at photos of her calms me down or cheers me up whern I'm feeling sad and angry."

Another squeeze of your hand and you return it, not really sure why Honamurei is so interested.

You can see some light from in front of Honamurei's figure.

"What do you think's in the vault then?"

"Ve vill probably find a lot of money! Vell at least some golden things. I alvays vondered vhy would Gods and Godesses ask for shiny things?" Hona says with a frown and shields her hand from her eyes as you reach a room of light brown stone slabs. The walls, roof, floor all of it the same light brown almost sand coloured slabs.

It's so bright that you feel like you're staring into a pond during a heat wave, it's blindingly so. You glance up and notice in the corner of the cieling Minerva, or a mini version of her orbits the outer edge of the room slowly.

"Wow you actually believed this was the right passage. Nobody ever trusts me. Uhm. Welcome? I suppose?" The old man from before interjects. "I am... well I've forgotten my name but I'm a shade of the First Palaidn of Minerva. I guard her vaults."

"How do you...." Hona begins.

"My soul is split into many shades child. Now state which trial you shall face and I shall summon a foe. Just step on the panel here and speak clearly when you're ready." He says indicating a floor slab that has some foreign language written on it.

You boldly step forward, hoping you look dashing like all the heroes in the stories do. Honamurei wouldn't be the type to gasp but if Minerva is watching she's going to be impressed. Standing on the stone slab you stare down the paladin.

The room is dead silent, your hand close to your rifle, your blue eyes lock with his semi-translucent ones; "Oh by the way, what does this slab say?" You ask completely wrecking the tension.

"Can't you read child?" He asks politely.

"Um. Not this language, it looks to me like two rivers decided to dance." You reply with a shrug, Hona giggles when the shade sighs. It's nice hearing her act like her own self again.

"That's the language of this land is it not? Ghenris?" He strokes his chin which cries out for want of a beard. It's hard to think of him as ancient when his shade is clean shaven.

"Uhm Ghenris was conquered by the Republic of Munis." You say.

"Oh well." Paladin says, "What matters is you and your test. What shall the guardian face you in?" He says clapping his hands with a sense of finality, dread, yet kind of a paternal sterness.

You smirk, and flash Honamurei a sneaky look. "Fine, I choose, Tea Brewing." You begin to chuckle and Honamurei begins laughing out loud.

https://youtu.be/e9XtPWKe6iI?t=17

"Very well Child. Brace yourself." The paladin warns his form dissipating and being replaced with an impossibly buff, terrifyingly scarred and surprisingly curious amount of interest in you.

"So someone has come to stand before me once more." He rumbled, shaking the very earth around you with his words. "Never has someone so young dared face me. Welcome!"

Benches of boiling equipment, magical artifacts with heat runes, strainers, cups, mugs, vases, jugs, any kind of liquid sotring container.

"Uhm." You begin but are cut off as your opponent stands. Apparently he was kneeling on a cushion before, every flame jumps and spirals as the old man draws breath. You see a small smile on his cracked and scarred lips.

His formal wear is white, in the style of one of the captains you saw at court. His bald head looks like it's been shot and stabbed more times than you'd care count.

He bwos to you in a formal style you were tuaght is expressed between nobles and master swordsmen. You return it which seems to fill the old man with pride.

Three buckets of tea leaves are next to you, the same with him. Minerva's voice rang out, exhoing around the chamber.

Begin

You both move in unison.

You begin making preparations to serve Thornhill Tea. Which means doing your utmost to ignore every item on the kicthen table and filling up a small pot with water.

"Excuse me sir?" You ask the guardian, stepping away from your pot of water and bowing formally.

"Ah yes child?" He replies amidst a flurry of knifework. It looks like he's chopping leaves, maybe Yukalli? "I intend to serve you Thornhill tea. Do you have any preferences or special steps necesarry?"

You see the old man's eyes light up. " My only request is that you serve it still boiling. As you have observed I have a penchant for heat." He bows in return before he asks you the same question. "With respect, I intend to prepare Yukalli tea. Do you have any preferences or requests?"

"No. I look forward to a new experience, Sir Guardian - I have yet to taste Yukalli tea and trust myself to your expertise." You can't help but smile, you've never felt so comfortable talking to an absolute stranger - moreso you never thought you would ever partake in a tea ceremony with nobility outside of the court.

"I shall endeavour to impress. If you don't mind, I didnt catch your name." He still hasn't looked up form his bow and you try to hold your posture as still as he does.

"Attendant Luc Maddison-Remy. A pleasure to be of service, might I ask your name?"

"Former General of Moran; Lord of Harlind; Nobunaga Oda. Itis a pleasure to meet a kindred soul many suns after my death."

With that the spell is broken and you resume your brewing.

You sigh and focus in on your brewing, focusing on your fire's heat. The pot slowly works it's way to a boil far beyond what you would normally consider. You begin sorting through all the chinaware and cutlery. Unsure of what to go with.

You see the old man breathe in deeply, the flames from all of his fires being drawn into his lungs. His skin seems to steam gently and his muscles ripple to such an extent you're concerned he's going to wreck his exquisite formal clothes.

But instead you begin placing fine china on a short table that has appeared from nowhere. On the side you see golden suns and Twisting dragons inlaid in expert engraving. As you examine the cups you see your opponent begin filtering his tea. Thornhill luckily has no such extra preparation, so you focus on your spread. Making sure everything is arrayed perfectly.

Cup top right, saucer beneath. Stirring spoon on inside left, pot to be held until the guest indicates which side he prefers it upon. There is no food in this trial so no additional room or cutlery is to be served unless you are asking the man for his daughter's hand.

Excellent. Excellent.

You dash back and turn the fire off. The pot is white hot, to the point you have to quickly use time stop to pour it into the beautiful handcrafted teapot you've selected. On the china the story of a young lady who danced with dragons across planes of fullest orange.

You've never heard of this story. You're should try and look it up at the academy.

Lord Nobunaga removes his formal clothing. Wearing a soldier's black vest beneath that struggles to contain the physique of a man who could move mountains.

Now Oda Nobunaga, as opposed to the Lord takes his place at your table. Kneeling on a small cushion with grace beget of practice you can only hope you survive to experience. He closes his eyes for a long time, silently contemplating or praying. He lays his left hand on the table and you bow low as you place the tea pot.

He inclines his head with a grunt. Taking his first sip.

He puts his cup down and opens his eyes, the traditional sign you may pour for yourself.

You do so. Both bowing before he takes his second sip and you your first. Indicating his seniority in age as well as status by being allowed to drink first. It is commonly broke in such circumstances where the host has higher status, but still you drink the scalding hot liquid. The tea gives you goosebumps as always, but nowhere neaqr as much as it does when at optimal temperature. The fire blooded Lord must be mad to drink this.

Moreso, a stab of fear strikes your gut and heart.

This is not perfect. You have lost.

"An exemplary ceremony young Remy. I am honoured to have been our guest. Were I still living I would do my utmost to linger upon your beverage and hospitality." He says with satisfaction as he finishes his cup. Yours lying abandoned after the fourht sip.

"Thank you my Lord." You say with bowed head.

"Now my offering." He says, and the dance is repeated in reverse. You being treated as the Lord. His tea is the tea equivalent of picking a ripe summer fruit and slowly suckling the juice out of a druid's teat.

"Now, Young Remy. I must ask my kindred spirit how my brew has performed."

"It is an experience I shall not forget. I am glad I waited to taste these leaves until now." You both bow in respect and share a strange smile, you wonder if this is how Purps and Honamurei feel fighting.

I fell asleep gents. I'm waking up in 2 hours so gotta go. Luc Quest will continue/conclude tomorrow after college and football. Hopefully.

Today's Question:
Is this still enjjoyable? I like the change of pace and epxloring Luc's character but not sure it's coming across as fun.
>>
>>758016
If you mean playing as Luc I think it's fine. As long as there is plot at some point, rather than some pointless diversion as an excuse to pay add another character.
>>
>>758016
Its ok every once in a while but unless you're planning to make it luc quest i'd prefer to stick to purps as much as possible
>>
>>758016
I agree with the green anon. It's fine if it's short one thread affair. I continue to follow for the Purps. Would rather not have her be a side character.

Adressing feedback. IF real life hadn't made me it's bitch this week we'd have finished this by now. We're wrapping up ASAP and if this thread doesn't autosage we could finish this thread. If it does it'll finish in thread 19.5

You keep your fists clench as you bow in supplication, "You win Lord Nobunaga. It was an honour to be allowed to challenge you."

"No child. You are the victor. Had you served the tea for anyone else it would have moved them to tears." He sighs, "You shall not be stopped my by ancient tastebuds." his laugh is quiet and oddly smokey, reminding you of a chimney.

"Go to your reward, you shall find it quite welcoming I think." He says with a smile, "I am proud one so young as you was able to challenge me in this ancient art and moreso, defeat me. I shall rest easy, knowing civility lives on in this world through you." He bows, going to his knees and resting his forehead on the ground.

You try to accept your victory with grace, turning to Honamurei to offer a thumbs up - but she is not there. In fact you are in a room you haven't seen before.

REAL LIFE CALLS WILL FINISH THIS SIDE ARC IN THREAD 19.5 SORRY FOR ALL THE DISTRACTIONS THIS WEEK.
