You are Wedge Hastings, The Cold Steel, an Edgelord traveling with the Exiled Paladin Maria to the border in the hopes of getting back into the Kingdom of Valgrite. Just a few hours ago, the two of you rescued a black dragon from a team of would-be dragon slayers, and just set camp for the night when the dragon suddenly transformed into a young girl.

Slowly getting up onto your feet, you now find yourself standing in front of a black clad girl with piercing blue draconic eyes. The girl, clad in a dress black as onyx, smirks as she walks over to the pile of fish she accumulated, and selectively picks a sizable trout.

Maria was busy eating her food by the crackling campfire, clearly enjoying the new source of entertainment before her.

“With me disguised as a human, it should be easy to get past the border! I have flown south a few times before,” Ebony says, walking back to you as the trout struggles to escape her grasp.

>“Since when could you turn into a human?!?”

>>“Do you mind flying us over the border?”

It dawns upon you that if Ebony could fly you over the border, it would avoid a lot of the dangerous monsters that may be lurking beneath the waters of the Black Tendrils.

“Do you mind flying us over the border?” you excitedly ask.

“No,” she states simply as she spits a small ball of blue dragonflame from her mouth, thoroughly cooking the fish in her hand, “but there are dragon hunters out to get me, so it would definitely attract some attention from them, and I don’t have any plans to be some trophy on a wall.”

Ebony then take a large bite off the head of the trout before devouring the rest in a single gulp. Turns out that while she looks human, she still eats like a dragon.

Finishing her meal, Maria chimes in from her warm seat by the fire, “Hmm…looks like it’s a choice between the possible dangers of dragon slayers, and whatever the hell’s swimming in these deep waters….”

“We’ll take out chances with the Edgelords seeing as our current record in fighting them is pretty good.” You yawn, walking over to your tent.

“Alright then, then it looks like we may have a fight on our hands.” Pulling out her sword and a small whetstone, Maria begins to sharpen her sword, “You two get some rest, who knows what we’ll be up against.”

The autumn moon was out, and the stars shone in the dark skies as dark clouds occluded their light. You retire to your tent and rest for tomorrow.

------

A few years ago, you thought that being able to fly through the skies would be the happiest moment in your life. Flying through clouds, and over treetops would be any man’s dream….if it wasn’t so terrifying to experience first-hand.

Grasping onto Ebony’s scaled neck like a vice-grip, you could barely open your eyes as they were buffeted by wind and rain, the sound of thunder echoing in the distance. Perhaps you’d prefer not looking, seeing as how high you were above the ground.

“So this is what being a Dragoon feels like? I always wanted to be one!” Maria tries shouting over the deafening gale of wind, “But seeing as you were caught in Ebony’s clutches last night, I guess you know more than I!”

>“WHAT?!? I can’t hear your!”

>>“WHAT?!? I can’t hear your!”

“WHAT?!? I can’t hear you!” you yell, trying to your voice get past the thunderous gale.

“I said-” Maria is cut off when a massive projectile screams past you.

“FUCK!” you all yell as a second arrow narrowly clips Ebony’s wing, sending you hurtling to the ground. Ebony quickly recovers and stops mid-air, scanning the skies.

Looking far into the clouds, she screeches with her draconic cry.

You quickly search where she was trying to direct your attention, and you see it…

A massive airship prying the skies asunder.

“So…do you feel like fighting some Edgelords now, Wedge?”

>“How the hell did they even get that?!?!”
>“We can handle it.”

I'll give them one thing, they're pretty stubborn.

“We can handle it. We can’t get past the border with these guys on our asses. Just get us close.” You point towards the airship.

“I swear, the things I do…” Maria trails off.

And you fly towards the airship, dodging ballista and cannon fire. Ebony swiftly soars upwards past the bladed prow of the ship, raining fire upon the siege weapons and causing the crew to scatter across the deck.

You leap onto the deck with your trust knife, Cold Steel, raised high into the sky and shout your epic battlecry (which you didn’t just think of the previous night):

>WATCH OUT FOR THE EDGE!!!

With the airship high above the storm, the morning sun hits your blade with radiant light as you yell to the heavens, “This is the blade that shall destroy your edge. OCCAM'S RAZOR!”

The crew of the ship can only stand in awe as hushed words echo amongst them. Many of them, too afraid to stand up to the somewhat ‘exaggerated’ legend.

“Is it true?!? He’s The Cold Steel!?!?” An engineer yells in disbelief.

“Pipe down! I heard he killed the Bloodthirster with a single blow from his pinky finger!” Another says.

“Some people call him ‘Bloodbane’ for drinking the blood of a thousand demon lords.” A soldier quips.

“…we’re doomed!!” An officer runs and hides behind a pile of ammunition.

Before the entire mass routs in a panic, the door to the captain’s quarters slams open, and an Edgelord appears.

“So this is the Cold Steel that I’ve been hearing all about these days, eh?” The Captain scoffs, “If you landlubbers don’t deal with this yourself, then I’ll have to!”

The Captain vaults over the railing and onto the deck, drawing his two swords from his waist.

“If it’s a fight you want, it’s a fight you get. Nothing will get in between me and my Knighthood!” he charges at you, blades at the ready.

Some taunting is in order here

You quickly use your knife to redirect the swing of his sword to the side before throwing a punch to his face, and roll to the side to dodge the thrust of his second blade.

"Don't worry, I like going easy on you Edgelords." you taunt before moving to an advantageous position.

With sheer rage, the Captain chases after you.

Quickly running over to a wrecked ballista, the crowd moves back to watch the spectacle. You duck and feint around it as he swings his blades, cutting deep into the wood and sending splinters flying.

It was only then, he realized that his sword was stuck. You quickly spin the ballista on its ring, releasing the sword of the Captain’s grip, and knocking him back and staggering.

Using this opportunity, you quickly dash towards him with your knife firmly in your hand, and you thrust into his chest!

And you hear a thud.

The captain only grins, “Your [OCCAM’S RAZOR] only works on Edgy things, not mundane steel armour!”

Utilizing the opportunity, he hits you with a left hook, sending you to the precarious edge of the airship.

The Captain slowly paces towards you, each hobnailed footstep sounding more and more like a drum foretelling your demise. The assembled crowd remains deafeningly silent.

You slowly get back up, and think of a plan.

>He’s walking a bit too close to a coil of rope that’s tied to a loaded ballista….
>You could try fighting in melee combat again
>This whole ship is Edgy. It would be a shame if something were to slice it in half.

Yell "It's time to cut out the crap!"
Before we do.
>>

Do you think boat puns would be more or less edgy?
Like "The rig is up"
>>
>>766265
It wouldn't increase or decrease the edginess but our punshit levels would go up.
>>
>>766195
“Let’s face it, Wedge, you’re nothing but a crock of shit. A nobody in a world that constantly looks down on you.” He laughs as you notice a coil of rope around his leg.

You can only chuckle, “Heh, I guess you’re right.”

His face grows smug as he basks in your supposed acceptance.

“I really do need to cut the crap!” You say as you quickly slam the lever of the ballista.

The look of dawning realization would become imprinted on your face for the rest of your days.

The bolt screams in the air, and the rope flies soon afterward, wrapping tightly around his leg as he’s dragged screaming overboard and down into the clouds below.

“It looks like the rig is up.” You dryly say. Looking at the gathered crew as some of their clothes are cut to ribbons from your Edge, “I recommend you find a way off the ship.”

The crew can only imagine your intentions before you stab Cold Steel into the deck of the ship, and running across the bow, leaving a clean cut into the hull before you jump off the starboard side.

One of the officers runs over to see what happened, and can only see you riding your blade down the starboard hull leaving a perfectly clean cut before you disappear into the clouds below.

-------

To be fair, it wasn’t the best idea you’ve ever had.

Finding yourself freefalling through the clouds and see terra firma quickly getting closer to give you a final, cold embrace.

“WEDGE!!!” you hear in the distance.

Looking around, you see Ebony and Maria diving behind you, quickly matching your speed. Maria takes you by the collar before Ebony quickly pulls up before hitting the treetops, as you ride into the sunset.
“That was amazing, Wedge!”

“Good, ‘cause I’m not sure I can do it again, and thanks for the assist.” You chuckle as the adrenaline in your system starts to fade.

The storm clouds finally pass, and the afternoon sun shines peeks through the clouds as you cruise over the Black Tendrils. If it weren’t for the fact that hundreds of people were sent here to rot, it would be a pretty nice view.

“So, Maria…” you ask, “What do you plan to do once you get back into Valgrite?”

She simply looks forward and sees the border that divides the Kingdom and The Outer Rim, “Aside from arresting a certain Edgelord that tried to escape justice? I guess I’ll go back to serving the Order if they allow me back in, or maybe just become an adventurer.”

Her light hair blows lightly in the air as you cruise towards the massive man-made gulch, “What about you, Wedge? What plans do you have when we get back?”

>“I haven’t really thought of that to be honest.”
>“I’ll go visit family and friends.”

We basically have anti edge powers.
And almost anything evil in a fantasy universe is edgy.

>>“Maybe I’ll become an adventurer, too.”

And maybe stop killing anyone who challenges us. He who fights edgelords is bound to become an edgelord himself and stuff. If he gets any more edgier, his occam's razor could become ... a double edged sword.
>>
>>766978
“Hm…you do have what is essentially an Anti-Edge ability, and most of the Kingdom’s villains were Edgy,” you ponder to yourself.

“I guess I’ll be an adventurer, too,” you reply, “Might as well try to make the world a better place with my Edge power, plus I think it’d be fun going on an adventure with you.”

Ebony growls, her blue eye glaring at you.

“Oh, and how can I forget you, Ebony? We can be adventurers together!” as you try to deflect any potential flak.

“Look! We’re going past the border soon!” Maria cries.

Although it felt utterly simple, flying over the border felt like a heavy weight was unloaded from your shoulders. Countless Edgelords and Exiles have tried passing the border back into Valgrite, but were either hunted down by Paladins, Edgelords, or were consumed by the terrible monsters that dwelled in the Outer Rim.

And from this height, you can just barely see the crystal towers of the Captial City of Valgrite glimmering in the distance. You were finally going home, it was only just a matter of time before you could make amends with your family, and go make your own destiny as your own man!

But it seemed that fate had other plans in store for the three of you.

As you fly over the large hill of Redswallow Run, you see them.

The Royal Army of Valgrite, almost fifty thousand strong, in full force with over four thousand paladins of the Order of the Hand marching north to The Outer Rim.

“W-what?!? The only time when they’re supposed to gather in such numbers was…was….but the King sai-” Maria stammers.

“What’s going on, Maria?!?” You shout.
Maria just looks at you with dead eyes, “They’re going to purge The Outer Rim….They’re going to kill EVERYONE!”

To have so many lives in your hand felt like the weight of the world was handed off to you, and you were supposed to know what to do…

Just what do we do now…..?

If we tell the outer rim they'll just go to war.

I doubt the king would talk with an exiled edgelord, I think rallying an army with the edgiest of lords has more chances to succeed although with a higher body count

Okay, it'd help if I numbered them:

1. Talk to the King
2. Warn The Outer Rim
>>

“We have to warn The Outer Rim, now!” you yell.

“But what about talking to the King?” Maria interjects.

“If we don’t warn them, then they won’t stand a chance! We need to at least give them a fighting chance.” You hold onto Ebony tightly.

The black dragon let’s out a cry that would later be said to have been heard all the way from Valgrite as she hastily circles back, heading north. Her black scales glistening in the evening light like onyx and obsidian wings propelling the three of you over the Black Tendrils at the speed of darkness.

Now, you, Wedge Hastings, The Cold Steel must now warn the people of The Outer Rim of their impending demise, rally the Edgelords to your cause, and prevent them from being a minor footnote in the blood-stained pages of history.

You must plunge steel into the hearts of the wicked, and find out the true nature of the prophecy foretelling of a Dark Lord who would bring the Kingdom of Valgrite to its knees with the power of the Unyielding Edge.

For the identity of the Real Dark Lord may forever be a mystery, unless you wedge the cold steel into the masquerade.
