This is a quest set in the world of Wildblow's "Worm" web serial, in which heroes and villains battle for the fate of the city, and for street-level drug feuds.
We follow James Case, a young man with newly discovered powers…

~
After being left in the lurch by Decider at the beach, you had decided to head back home. The rest of the garbage-pickers seemed more than capable of finishing the cleanup without you once the main attraction had gone. The jog back to the apartment wasn’t particularly long, even after taking a more scenic sort of route along the oceanside.

You leave your wet and sandy runners at the door, moist-socked feet leaving phantom-like prints on the laminate floor as you make come back into the apartment. Damp hoodie draped over a chair, you follow it and sit down with a glass of water and some Triscuits. You check your phone, it’s just a bit after 1pm. You start to wonder what you’re going to do for the rest of your day off.

>Call your contact in the fighting rings, try to track down a fight.
>Find Blowout, try to determine his next move.
>Delve further into costuming and equipment.
>Spend some time at home bettering yourself and looking for different martial arts classes.

We need something we can carry with us as a costume.

Well, I'm glad at least one QM I follow hasn't gone on hiatus because of this stupid bullshit.

also

There are still quests running on /tg/.
>>

No seriously dude, just copy paste and move to /tg/

I know, but at least three QM's I follow decided posted their decision to go on hiatus until this was all settled one way or the other.

Thanks for giving it a shot, I feel like most people don't realize that /qst/ won't stop being shit unless people actually run their legitimate quests here and then it will be fine.
>>
>>7907
I concur.
>>
>>7829
>Delve further into costuming and equipment.
the fact of the matter is that doing anything cool will be pointless for as long as we look like a chump.

Lets combine that with
>Find Blowout, try to determine his next move.
so we can get a sweet costume.

Matter of fact, we should come up with a hero name too.

We should git gud at fencing and be
>Musketeer
>>
>>7905
>I'm going to give this new board a chance for now. If it turns out to be shit I'll move it back for the next time.

There's absolutely no reason to, this board is half baked, buggy abortion.

Several QMs have tried and said, "Yeah this is shit."

Don't let a vocal minority fuck up questing.
>>
>>7917
>then it will be fine.
Until the lack of new blood kills it, but hey, it's not like it isn't the goal.
>>
>>7917
>Thanks for giving it a shot, I feel like most people don't realize that /qst/ won't stop being shit unless people actually run their legitimate quests here and then it will be fine.

It will never, ever be fine. This was made on a whim without listening to the people it affects.

AND WE HAD /tg/ already
>>
>>7930
The board has been out for, what, less than two days?

They need some people that aren't just /b/tards fucking around to set the stage, and after about two weeks this place should start gettign better.

Nobody wants us on /tg/ anyway, evidenced by the fact that a shitstorm happens once a month or so,
>>
>>7926
It's a stupid name but I have to get it out of my head: Marshall Martial or Martial Marshall

Because stupid alliteration reasons
>>
>>7961
>Nobody wants us on /tg/ anyway, evidenced by the fact that a shitstorm happens once a month or so,

If you were paying attention it's a vocal minority that loudly shitposts everything quest related. Most people don't give a fuck, and the people who want quests on /tg/ out number the very few shit posters.
>>
>>7968
It really depends on what kind of fighting style we end up settling into.

I think MMA is going to be fine for now, but at some point we need to start getting into actual weaponry because it's just BETTER.

>Belligerator
If we keep on fighting rough and street style as fuck though.
>>
Holy fuck OP please just assign us a superhero name because I can't think of any and all the suggestions have been awful
>>
>>7926
someone suggested "blindside" as a name.

it works thematically, and we can use it cause we're so ordinary

>>7988
if they're awful to you then make a suggestion that isn't awful.
>>
>>7975
Maybe so, but I also don't give a fuck because you too are just some biased fag that lacks credibility.

You might just be a "vocal minority" pleb too.

I don't know, I think /qst/ has potential, it just won't fulfill that potential if people don't use the damn board.

May I remind you

>>7926
I thought we already picked a name at the end of last thread?

If not I'm going to throw my vote to Blindside
>>
>>8003
Honestly, they remove the SFW rule which is just BS censorship for censoring purposes and I don't know why it wouldn't work as a whole.

>>8007
I too like Blindside, vague enough to not nail down our powers. not like anyone could just find out anywhere once we get established
>>
>>8003
The board that nobody asked for, or wanted won't live up to it's non existent potential.

Gee golly gosh I wonder why.

Good luck OP, have fun guys
>>
>>8007
Blindside works only as long as we remain a generic fighter.

As this guy says >>8015, it's vague. I don't want us to be "vague". I want us to be an in your face badass motherfucker.

If we start using a fucking greatsword and wearing full plate, it'll seem kind of weird for us to be named Blindside instead of Lancelot or something.

>>8018
Sweet opinions. Fuck off.

Not liking the board is one thing, even explaining why is fine. But you just plan on shitposting and working yourself into a tard-rage for no reason, which is ridiculous.

>2 days
>>
>>8030
...you know, in the worm-verse cape names are NOT fixed right?

examples include Foil Armsmaster and Kephri
>>

>>

>>7859
>>7897
It's a close race, but it looks like we're going to try to get in on the fighting ring scene. Who knows where this could lead? Writing.

>>7988
Someone suggested Nemesis a few threads back, which was my personal fave. But, I do like most of the ones being floated as well.
>>
>>8041
Yeah, but in the serial people generally only changed their names when they completely changed colors.

Since we're still in our formative stage (Hell, we don't even know if whether or not we'll be a villain yet.) we don't want to settle on a name until we have our everything set down more.

Really, I think we should just hold off until we're well known in our own right, but I'm willing to tentatively support Blindside or Nemisis for now.
>>
>>8051
I enjoyed Multiple Punch Man but that one can't be used for obvious reasons.
>>
>>8045
>>8041
These are both correct and there's absolutely nothing saying that a guy named blindside wont be a bad ass, we just need to establish our reputation first.

On the other hand how shitty would we look if we picked some name way too big for us as new kid on the block and got shrekt?
>>
>>8064
or when it suited them, Armsmaster was a re-branding for example. Foil changed when she got tinker support for a different set of weapons.
>>
>>8074
Armsmaster had to rebrand because he fucked up and essentially couldn't be Armsmaster anymore.
>>
Superhero Names:
>Nemesis
>Raiden
>Prime Blitz
>Acid Prophet
>Grim Ghost
>Alias
>Silver Samurai
>Machiavelli
>Melkor
>Mortis
>Fake ID

>>
>>8084
>Fake ID
>Alias
Shit those are actually kinda cash
>>
>>8084
I really like Nemesis and Blindside.

Blindside especially if we get to being really a mobile type of fighter. Hit and run, quick in and out style
>>
>>8102
You should make those some Strangers!
>>
>>8102
>>8106
I'm partial to Alias, Nemesis, Nyx (since it's a wordplay on nix, which means nothing), and Prime Blitz personally.
>>
>>8102
>Fake ID / Alias
>Has the ability to take on the form, personality, and even memories of anyone he's touched in the last 24 hours
>The only problem is that he doesn't have access to their minds; He just clones his own body into them and then sits back for the ride, pickign and choosing when he overrides the person he turned into carefully.

>>8128
I don't like those for us, we're not a stranger. We're more of a low tier thinker/brute mix.

As I said before, I think we should wait until our combat style and role in the game of Rain City is more set in stone before we pick something though.

I will say that I want to specialize in a melee weapon and name ourselves something that relates to said weapon.
>>
You crack your neck. As your browse your phone, you notice that your hands are beginning to show the brown splotching of light bruising from the night before, a grim sort of trophy. You can’t help but recall the rush of taking on so many attackers at once, and from getting up face to face with one of the physically strongest villains in the city. You go into your contacts, searching for the one given to you by Clark the other night. Your finger hesitates a moment, then pushes send.

{Fight club? How do I get in}

You stare at the screen for a few moments, then realize that a response probably won’t come quite so quickly. Triscuits crunch in your mouth. You should really put your mind to thinking up a cape name before the faggots at /ca/ give you something stupid, you think to yourself. Nemesis? Blindside? Many Punch Man? You snigger a little at the thought of the last one, and make a mental commitment to see if Netflix has added any new anime at some point later. Your reverie is broken: the phone vibrates in your hand, jangly pop-ping sound at odds with the serious matter at hand.

{fighting or watching?}

That gives you pause for thought: should you get stuck in right away and take control of your public image, or just watch to get a feel for things first?

>Fighting.
>Watching.
>Write in?
>>
>>8041
Weaver is a better example than Khepri. She didn't pick Khepri.

>>
>>8174
>Fighting.
>>
>>8174
If Wildbow was running this, I'd pick the smart, safe option.

But Jim Mac isn't as vicious about his RP. He wants to have a good time, we want to have a good time, so let's pick the most entertaining option.
>>
>>8147
Alias
you ever read a book called "Skin Game"
cause you just described Goodman Gray

>I will say that I want to specialize in a melee weapon and name ourselves something that relates to said weapon.
Umbrella Samurai was suggested...but now that people are off the idea of carrying around a cane that right out.

>>8175
and Skitter didn't pick her name either.

>>8174
>Write in?
"a little column A maybe a little column B"
>>
>>8174
>Fighting.
>>
>>8197
You know, people always say Wildblow is super brutal, but I just don't see it. Things get bad, but not many people (important people at least) die, considering the levels of danger.
>>
>>8220
unlike God, Wildblow DOES roll dice
>>
>>8174
Shit, do we know anything about how this place would react to a cape? Because if any money is involved either it's only capes or only normal people and if they have a thinker or something on call to tell if their fights are being rigged I'd rather we keep all our fingers, so maybe don't use our powers unless we absolutely need to?

that said
>fighting
>>
>>8220
You haven't seen his campaigns.
>>
>>8220
Have you read his Lausanne RP? He killed half the players in their first session.
>>
>>8220
He is brutal, but he seems to enjoy offsetting it with silver linings.
>>
Fighting it is!

And you're right, I haven't read any of the campaigns. I should though, shouldn't I.
>>
>>8199
>you ever read a book called "Skin Game" cause you just described Goodman Gray
I'll be sure to check it out.

That kind of annoys me though because I've been playing an OC Quest and someone was going to have that ability. Shit.
>>
>>8237
>>8251
I've tried getting into his campaigns but I don't comprehend reddit, I don't like reddit, and I don't like the people that use reddit.

I comment on the new chapters he puts out sometimes though, only when I have something to say.
>>
>>8304
it's the last book in the dresden files...

don't read it just for him, just figured thats where you get the idea...I that said, the dresden files is a good series.
>>
>>8304
Skin Game is the one of the recent Dreden Files books. I highly highly recommend them. It's legit magic and wizards in modern day Chicago. there's great escalation in the villains and troubles and the character is awesome. James Marsters, who played Spike in Buffy, does the audio books and by book 2-3 he really starts nailing the character. I hate audio books and I have all of this series.
>>
>>8251
seconding this. half the players in Lausanne are dead and so are some of their replacements- and as far as I know, Simurgh hasn't even done anything yet.
>>
>>8313

If you're using reddit you're in the wrong place entirely. They mainly work off of IRC and google docs.
>>
>>8323
Shes started doing shit, they currently think shes an angel who can reduce side effects from powers, restore memory loss, allow for more control, and a whole bunch of other things.

The person who managed to touch her got mindfucked, slashed someones throat, and ended up flying off in a confused state.

Shits definitely going to hit the fan.
>>
>>8319
>all the audio-love
YES except book 13, and that made me sad...
he's a FANTASTICAL NARRATOR though and you can get all of the books on audio on a torrent if you're cheap...
>>
>>8317
>>8319
One of my friends was big into the Dresden Files, but it sounds like a majorly disappointing ride for someone like me.

From his descriptions it just seems to lack a great deal of internal consistency.
>He needs to prepare his spells in advance
>Whatever, fuck it, he can throw fireballs whenever he feels like now

Not that I've read any of it and have a leg to stand on judging it.

>>8325
Well then, how the fuck do I get in on that shit?
>>
>>8174
>Fighting.
>>
>>8323
>>8335
Is this some kind of roleplay sequel to Worm? Simurgh shenanigans in an alternate dimension?
>>
>>8313
Yeah Reddit is only convenient as a platform to link other content too.

Most of its through docs and IRC, and it's pretty Sekret Club which is nice because it's selective.
>>
>>8351
>He needs to prepare his spells in advance
some spells, others he needs to prepare the formula in advance(like the fireball, mostly though that was refining how he does it)
>>
>>8357
No, prequel, it's an RP set in Lausanne 2002 when Ziz first showed up
>>
>>8341
They went back and redid it with him. Here's the news on it from Butcher's website.

>>8351
There is consistensy when you get the feel fr the whole thing. Fire is kinda Dresden's thing and easy for him to manipulate but he doesn't have much control without prep. There is a good deal of prep, but unfortunately there are occasions that the prep is mentioned after the pull and sometimes mentions events we dont know about or might have been in the comics for all I know.

You can apply to get in, but you generally gotta know one of them to get much traction.

That, or read a bunch then open your own. That's a fast in. As a massive fan of Weaver Dice campaigns I have links to all of them.

I've read all of Worm, Pact, and Twig (So far.) and I'm not autistic so I should be able to *worm* my way in there ;)

Can I get a link to a starting point so I can see what I'm getting into?
>>
>>8411
OK, I'm a bit out of the Loop. Are Pact and Twig other stories by the Worm author set in the same Universe?
>>
>>8430
same author, different universes.

{Fighting.}

No use dancing around the inevitable.

{7pm E 29th and cartwright, building with red sign. go down the alley, 2nd door on right. If cape come in costume}

You put the phone back down, and chomp at another Triscuit distractedly. You wonder what the payout is like? Must be better than coffee shop wages at the very least. A gulp of water washes away the last cracker, and you put the dishes in the washer. You kick off your damp socks in favour of slippers and change out of your running clothes. About five hours to kill.

You take your ersatz costume out of its hiding place in the closet. The overall aesthetic isn’t bad: black pants, shirt and jacket, with a garishly coloured dirtbiking helmet. Not easily concealable, but definitely better than nothing. You wonder if you should bring it with you to the fight. Would they have a way of telling capes from non-capes? You can’t imagine they’d be running an operation like this without some sort of screening.

You idly browse Facebook for a little while, but decide that your time would probably be better spent on something else.

>Go online, try to get control over rumours about the previous night’s fight.

Different Universes.

Pact is modern occult, Twig is alternate history biopunk.

Twig is considered better than Pact generally (At least that's my opinion.) and it's ongoing, so I'll go ahead and give you the link to the beginning of it

https://twigserial.wordpress.com/2014/12/24/taking-root-1-1/

Sylvester is fucking great, he reminds of myself (And I say that knowing full-well I sound like a douchebag.).

>>8458
If it's at all possible to not be identified as a cape, we should take that route.

At the end of the day unless they can do a genetic test or some shit we don't have any overt supernatural abilities, we could probably say "I'm just really good at fighting." and be set. Plausible deniability, and it'll make us seem like a total fucking badass if everyone thinks we're just a normal guy that happens to be capable of pushing cape shit in.

>>8509
I'm just floating the idea, it's something we might want to think about.

Everyone is talking about how they want to be named Blindside to keep our powers somewhat incognito anyways, if we can manage to stump whatever Trump that happens to be there we may as well take a crack at it.
>>
>>8531
2. No it isn't, we know we have a superpower. It isn't legitimate at all. It's a lie, the very opposite of truthful.

1. Even if they're rare, we just need to run into a single one. It'll happen eventually, unless we die, and I don't want to bet on that.

We know we have a superpower. Going down that route would mean we would say we don't have a superpower, or we would feign ignorance of our superpower. That is not technically true by any definition of the word.
>>
>>8572
"I got in a fight the other day" does not specify that day was yesterday.
>>
>>8590
wasn't it the day before yesterday?
>>
>>8590
I never said anything about when the fight occurred. It doesn't matter. That is the part where your bureaucratic speech passes. The part it doesn't pass is the time we go around saying "Power? I don't have a power, I just hit people until they stop moving." That is the part I have an issue with. That is the part that does not pass the truth test by any standard. I don't care about when the fight occurred. It does not matter. What matters is that we will be claiming to be unpowered, when that is false.
>>
>>8590
It is literally impossible for you to not know you have a super power int his world.

Alright, I'm probably gonna start trying to creep my way into this little society.

Not soon, but within the next month. I've got finals, I can't afford to be fucking around trying to ingratiate myself with people and getting into all this internet shit.
>>

>>
You pocket your phone and slide into the chair at your desk, plasticy black leather just a little too cold on your exposed skin. You flip the lid open on your laptop and plug in your headphones. It was about time to see just what the internet had to say about the encounter last night. You start a playlist on Youtube and open windows for both PHO and /ca/.

You scroll through pages of assorted threads. A cape battle in itself isn’t huge news, but some of the more specific sub-boards and generals could have something. You try /rcg/ first. Quickly skipping past the first half of the thread, you slow down as you reach the more recent posts. Some stuff about Decider as usual, as well as back and forth shitposting about other members of the local Protectorate. Finally, discussion about the fight at the club start appearing:

[Was anyone else at Blowout’s club last night? Pic related cucked the shit out of some Red Boys, who is he? Don’t recognize his macklemore ass costume]

The post is accompanied by a cell-phone camera picture of a male figure in a fighting stance. It’s dark, and there are a few people standing in the way, but you can make out a grey hoodie and a yellow scarf. It’s you, a thought that at once seems absurd and exhilirating.

[>going to clubs
I want normies to leave my board]

[what’s his power? Does he have a name?]

[didn’t look like he had one unless you count Jackie Chan kung fu, he didn’t even get hit, beat up 4 guys]

[name??]

[I think his power might be super reflexes or something.]

[lol what a retarded costume
>homeless capes]

[I got this guys. His name is Trash Man. He fights dumpster related crime.]

[kek]

[Many Punches Man. Maybe if I do 100 squats a day I can also beat up gangsters.]

You laugh at loud that someone else thought of that as well.

[I dunno I think the yellow scarf is pretty cool, kinda weeb but still cool. Ronin maybe?]

[dont be retarded thats probably just an emergency costume or something]
>>
>>8844
You’re struck by an idea. You pull out your phone, and shoot a text to the number Blowout gave you.

{Trying to pick a good cape name, suggestions? Don’t want to get stuck with something dumb like yours.}

You hope he realizes it’s meant as a joke; recalling what you know about the colourful villain, you’re sure he would.

You continue browsing while you wait for a response, this time on ParaHumans Online. The discussion here is markedly more civil. You open a thread entitled “Rain City Mystery Hero?” It’s a fairly recent thread, made four hours ago. The theme of the thread is similar to /rcg/: speculation over names and powers, with theories ranging from echolocation to limited time-slowing to some that are unnervingly close to being accurate. The names are generally less terrible and memey than the ones on 4chan, though that’s not saying much.

Your phone vibrates on your desk.

{Hey! Glad you texted me, I was worried you thought you were too cool. Been lying low all morning, and I actually thought up some names already. Here’s what I’ve got:
Blindside (cause your power is pretty hard to spot)
Nemesis (sounds badass)
Ronin (kinda Japanese and exotic)
Street Cleaner/Sweeper (clean the streets of your enemies!)
Takedown (duh)

I have some more but those are the top ones. What do you think?}

Yeah man, I met some guys over on /tg/ that wanted to let me in on some Unknown Armies roleplay on irc as well, but I had to flake out because I just straight up didn't have the time for it.

But considering I don't have a deadline to weasel out of this time, I need to start getting into this shit.

The other Anons have swayed me and holding out until we master a weapon is dumb, so I'm just gonna cave.

Nemisis might be cool, but the problem is that there are probably like 40 different capes already calling themselves Nemisis. Yeah it sounds badass, but "generic" badass, y'know?

You know, it occurs to me: How often do people post pictures of themselves in costume with a timestamp on /ca/ just so they can engage in some serious shitposting?

I'd do it all the time. All. The. Time.

Probably post pictures of unconscious people I beat the shit out of too and make fun of them, it'd be pretty fucking sweet.

It'd be sure to get a cape some serious street cred seriously quickly too if he latches onto the grapevine like that as well.

You think about it for a good few minutes.

{Blindside. Nemesis was my second pick, but it’s a bit generic. Thanks.}

You set about furiously posting in every thread you can, trying to establish Blindside as the canon. You don’t let on about powers just yet, only the name. It’s met with resistance, especially on 4chan, but you seem to be making at least a little bit of headway. Another text.

{Send me a pic of your costume, let’s see what we’re working with here.}

You hesitate. Could the flashy villain be trusted? He was a villain, after all. Then again, he seems to have been pretty decent so far. You arrange your costume on a patch of floor with no identifiable features, and take a picture. You have to admit, though the idea is okay, the execution is pretty weak.

You get back to shitposting while you wait for a response, and put on an episode of Bojack Horseman in the background. You’re very comfortable here, in your slippers, a blanket subconsciously thrown over your shoulders. You almost consider skipping out on the fight to stay in and watch TV. The phone vibrates, and the brief consideration of a normal evening is dispelled.

{lol}

{That’s terrible. Tell you what, I’ll get you in touch with my costume guy, and I’ll even cover half of it. Aren’t I generous? If you need the cash, I have a job lined up that should pay pretty well.}

What kind of motif should our better costume have?

For sure we should have a third eye on our mask/helmet because it'd be fucking dope, relevant to our powers, and relevant to our name.

Other than that, I don't really know. I do think we should keep somewhat of a Hotline Miami look that we've been getting into though.

This music reminds me of that kind of shit too.

Whipped it up quick, I'm horribad at drawing.

Obviously took cues from Hotline Miami, as I said.

Eye is there to look dope, horns are also there to look dope, but also for if we ever need to headbutt someone.

We should get Kevlar added to the vest to help protect our vitals, but other than that we should keep out arms as unobstructed as possible so we can still swing good.

Steel toed boots, and probably just bog-standard cargo pants to go with it for carrying a bunch of shit.

Hand-wraps or some specialized gloves for punching fags in the face.

I don't know if we should even bother hiding our skin completely, but if we decide to go that route just wearing something formfitting and long-sleeved underneath our vest that also covers the neck should do it.

{Sweet! His place is here, 22nd floor. Tell em I sent you. No masks either, go in plainclothes. Personal policy of his, but you can trust him. Bad for business if he does anything with it.}

Attached is a screenshot of Google maps, showing an address downtown. Another text from Blowout,

{Think of ideas on the way, I already let him know you’re heading over there. Hope you didn’t have plans this afternoon!}

You pocket your phone without a reply. Blowout certainly isn’t passive. You throw on your purple RCU hoodie and jacket combo and start lacing up your shoes. You hope that Blowout’s tailor is trustworthy.

The bus ride downtown feels long. Droplets of rain streak the windows of the packed vehicle, and you feel a comfortable sense of tranquility, headphones substituting the hubbub of commuters for relaxing beats. You try thinking of costume ideas, but it’s hard to think of any one thing that really jumps out at you.
>>
>>9484
Have some fun with it.

Besides, it makes sense we'd end up looking kind of funky because Blowout is the one getting our costume made.

Blindside/Blowout

Holine Miami Demon Biker/Daft Punk Gaudy Spaceman

>>9504
Movement. Armored vest, helmet, gauntlets, steel-toed boots for sure.

Elbow and knee pads maybe.
>>
>>
>>9529
Shallow puddles splash underfoot as you stride down the busy sidewalk. You check your phone to reassure you of your destination. The building looms overhead, an uber modern piece of glass and steel, far from what one would normally associate with super villainy. You imagine the owner of the building is willing to overlook some under-the-table tenants for the sake of some extra money. The lobby is opulent, yet cold. Low black benches flank carefully sculpted potted plants, tranquil music playing quietly over concealed speakers. A man in a plain black suit stands next to the elevator bank at the far end of the room, he eyes you suspiciously, but doesn’t move to stop you as you approach. You press the call button, the doorman looming over even you. After an excruciating length of time, the doors slide open and you dart inside. You jam the close button, and then hit 22. The elevator ascends noiselessly. The back half of the car is a rounded glass window, allowing a rain-streaked vantage over the city. You see a handful of partially finished skyscrapers throughout your view, the scaffold-coverings on all but two or three sporting the word “Carmichael” in blocky, blue capital letters. You recognize the name; many of the empty lots and construction sites in The Bricks had the same logo plastered across fences and containers.

“Maybe that means the city really is trying to gentrify it. Wonder how Meatgrinder feels about that. Guess it doesn’t matter now!” you think to out loud. It’s just hitting you that you helped in the capture of a major gang leader.
>>
Not really relevant for us, but it's good art for some other character.
>>
>>9538
The elevator doors part, opening into a well appointed reception. A woman in her early thirties sits behind a desk, looking rather bored. You approach with a visible air of caution,

“I’m Blowout’s… associate, I think I’m expected?”

She glances at her computer screen, then back to you.

“Of course,” she replies dryly, “you can go right in.” She gestures to the only door in the room. You decide against smalltalk and follow her directions.

The room beyond is large, but cluttered. Tables, boxes, mannequins, and all manner of textile equipment is scattered throughout seemingly at random, the entire scene at odds with the rest of the building’s reservedness. A spindly, graying man works frantically on what appears to be a sock of some sort, muttering and taking down notes as he goes. He doesn’t appear to notice you; you cough to get his attention after a few moments pass. He jumps at the noise, then shakes his head.

“Blindside, correct?” he asks, gesturing for you to come over. His small, round face is crowned with a mop of salt and pepper hair in a style that one could only associate with the profession of mad science.

“Yes,” you nod.

“Blowout says that you’re new to the cape business, no real identity yet. True carte blanche. Very exciting, very exciting. Gives me more freedom to work my artistry. Payment is arranged already, so no need to discuss that. Blowout sent me some information about you, and I’ve sketched some ideas. Of course they’re open to modification, and we’ll need your measurements before any real work can be done, but I find it easiest to have a picture in mind from the get go.”

He beckons you over to look at a series of coloured drawings strewn about the table in front of him. He did all of this in the 45 minutes it took to get here? You wonder if he has some sort of power.

“Tell me what you think of these…”
>>
I guess I'll dump a little bit of art. Since we have such a fuckhueg post limit and all.
>>
So at this point, I'm going to turn it over to you. See if you can, as a group, come to some form of consensus in regards to general costume idea/motif, as well as what specifications you'd like.

Hotline Miami Demon Biker.

We should have a third eye on our helmet to go along with our name and abilities. This eye could have a bright ass spotlight in it that we can use to blind people, but that's just me brainstorming and not something we may be able to afford. If it could look around too though, that would be badass.

I like the horns for headbutting too, but I'm willing to scrap them if people think it's too over the top.

A vest with Kevlar woven on the inside.

Knee pads, elbow pads. Lightweight and unobtrusive as possible.

We definitely need some kind of fighting gauntlets too, here again lightweight is the name of the game.

As for the coloration, I'm partial to darker colors, specifically dark red and black. I'm willing to go neon too, as long as it's paired with a darker color.

If we go with the eye-lamp thing, eye should have the coloration of whatever light we want to shine in someones face, and I recommend this color clash with the rest of our outfit because it'll stand out more (Unless you guys think we should go with white, because that goes with everything.).

I'm definitely NOT down for spiked gloves, because we don't really want to fucking kill anyone or anything like that.

Fine, fuck it. Bomber jacket is go.

Helmet with eye is go (Horns debatable, size and shape is up in the are along with whether they should exist at all.).

Kevlar plates are go.

Knee/Elbow pads are go.

I'm assuming you want some kind of gauntlets too for hitting people with? I'll say that's go too.

Only thing left is coloration. basically, we should have two colors.

One color for the helmet, jacket, pads, and gauntlets. All the armored parts, essentially.

And then we should have another color for the other areas that will be cloth, most likely.

I'm casting in for dark red on black, respectively.

Mostly lookin at the mask here
>>
Back at my computer! It seems we have the physical bit down, the colour is all that's left yes?

So far black is the clearcut frontrunner for primary. I've seen yellow, hot pink, cyan, red, and dark green/blue proposed as accents. In addition, the eye needs a colour, if you want it separate from the rest.

Let's get some votes in!
>>
>>9872
we can do the morally upstanding villain thing.

we'll rob a bank, but we'll try to avoid damage or injury while we do.
>>
>>9872
At least we know what Blowout has going on up front, that means we won't be surprised later.
>>
>>9878
I'd say Dark Blue Accents and a Yellow eye.
>>
>>9878
Let's make the eye "blind" but make it so it moves around to track moving objects

>>
>>9879
We can probably do better than robbing banks and maybe be the villain that builds up their community sort like creating a legacy. We could commit crimes but use some of the profit to create a lasting impact on our city and be remembered for that.
>>
>>9905
the daredevil or mid-game Skitter approach?

I can get behind that...
>>
>>9878
Yellow/Gold Eye
I am
70% sold on Blue Accents
>>
I'm fine with the stereotypical villain/vigilante that's got a heart of gold cliche, even if it's a path beaten harder than Bing Crosby's children,

but can we PLEASE restrain ourselves from waifuing the first female cape we spend more than two posts around?

Not to say I'm totally against that stuff but it seems like it always turns out to be the first option the GM dangles in front of anons.
>>
>>9905
I'd rather be coil than skitter, but we don't got the skillset for that. Let's just enjoy fuckin shit up until the qm baits us into doing something important
>>
I was thinking more so working the night club scene and dealing with the assholes who are actually into the serious drug cartels.
>>
>>9911
Sort like don't shit where you eat, if we give back and build up the poor districts then most will side with us. It's creates a long term option to be the lesser evil.

It looks like black, blue and yellow is the common vote here. The mask/eye, is it like Clockblockers, with the eye being animated?

Regardless, I'm going to start writing now.
>>
>>9932
I like it looking menacing, animated seems a bit cheap and tacky though.
>>
What the fuck is the point of this stupid as shit board?
>>
>>9932
non animated, we aren't budgeted for animate armor.
>>
>>9932
Yes eye is made to follow moving objects and relay coordinates like iron man's helmet
>>
>>9929
Why not just go super hero then? We arent running for office, we don't need to convince people to let us rob banks. Unless you're talking something like the opening of Saints Row 3, in which case that sounds fuckin hilarious and I'm in

The two of you look over the designs, picking bits and pieces from your favourites as you go. Within about twenty minutes of redesigning and comparing, you’ve come up with a solid design: A black bodysuit, with kevlar armour plates built up around the torso, neck, shoulders, and groin, as well as shock absorbing pads in the knees and elbows. Supple boots with armored toes, and matching gauntlets with hardened knuckles. Over top of the bodysuit, a black, lightly armored bomber style jacket with plenty of pockets on the inside. A modular belt with options for tool loops, pouches, and magnetic clasps around the waist. All of this capped off with a black helmet, smooth and featureless save for three yellow eyes. Throughout, the black is broken up by accents in deep, royal blue.

“You have quite the creative eye!” the tailor says as he unhooks a tape measure from his belt, “now, let me take your measurements. Hold still!”

You alternate standing with your legs apart, arms to your sides, arms raised as he darts back and forth jotting down numbers. After brief moments, he comes to a stop.

“When will it be done by?” you ask as the gangly man starts clearing space off of a nearby table. You see him screw his eyes shut and do some quick arithmetic on his fingers.

“Most of the pieces are ones I already have made… call it two and a half?”

“Weeks?”

“Hours.”

You do a double take at the number. He must have some sort of power, though what kind of power relates to making costumes?
>>
>>10034
You simply nod.

“Now if you don’t mind, I really must be getting to work,” he says insistently, without looking up from his already busy hands. You take the hint and leave. The secretary offers a perfunctory smile as you re-enter the elevator.

Three hours until the costume is done, four until the fight. Despite everything, you feel more giddy than nervous, as though you’re about to unwrap the biggest gift at the party. Filled with enthusiasm, you buy yourself a coffee and a croissant at a cafe on one of the main walking streets and sit down at a window seat.

My shittily drawn impression of what we look like.
>>
You chew on a mouthful of warm croissant as you open up your phone’s internet browser. You set about making posts on PHO, /ca/, and even Reddit about the appearance Blindside will make at the fight club tonight. During the process, you have the foresight to create a secondary PHO account with the name “Blindside,” avoiding any shenanigans in the future. Once you have the costume, you can do a timestamped verification, you think. It all seems so incredibly surreal. A few days ago you would’ve been just waking up in a hung-over daze. Not that you didn’t do that this morning, but a few days ago you definitely wouldn’t have been promoting your own match in an underground cape fighting league.

By the time three hours have passed, you’ve done plenty to get the word out, for what good that will do. You pick yourself up and head back to the futuristic skyscraper, marching through the rain with a spring in your step. The same doorman stands guard, looking noticeably more bored than before.

You disembark the elevator into the reception. The tailor’s secretary looks up from her texting,

“Oh, welcome back. You came at the perfect time, he’s just finished a few minutes ago.”

She gestures to a black plastic briefcase resting against the wall near the door.

“Where do I try it on? I don’t strip for free,” you joke. She doesn’t seem to notice, buried again in her phone she simply responds,

“It will fit. It always fits.”

You roll your eyes.

“Thanks, have a good day.”

“You too.”

Clutching the black case in your hands, you descend the elevator and board a bus. You nearly shake with excitement, barely able to resist opening it right away. You check your phone: it appears that the name Blindside is catching on, thankfully.
>>
>>10298
It’s about 6:30 by the time you get off the bus. You’re at the far end of The Bricks, and the sun is low in the cloudy sky. The streets grow dark under a shower of persistent rain, neon signs setting the city alight with arcs of vivid fire. You hurry through the downpour towards your destination, a good ten minute walk away. You have your earbuds screwed in tight, blasting your best pump up track; even without your power active your body feels so incredibly alive. 6:40, you’re one block away. You stop at a convenience store, light shining from the window like a beacon during a storm. Inside it is bright, fluorescent tubes at a stern contrast to the darkness outside. A sleepy looking Indian man reads a magazine behind the counter. You slide a five dollar bill over the counter, paying for an energy drink and a bag of Doritos, careful to angle your face away from the lone security camera.

“Bathroom?”

The man doesn’t look up from his magazine, nodding towards the back of the store. You nod back. Your hands really are shaking from excitement as you enter and flip on the lightswitch. You knock back the energy drink and cram down a fistful of Doritos, a crude facsimile of a hangman’s dinner. You rest the case on the vandalized baby changing station, and lift up the lid.
>>
>>10300
Inside is a neatly folded pile of black cloth and padding, the simple helmet nestled in foam. You shed your wet street clothes, placing them next to the briefcase, and withdraw your costume. First, the bodysuit. It slides on easily, the fabric surprisingly soft on your skin. Then, you throw the jacket on over top, lighter than you’d expected. Next, the belt. Finally, you lift the helmet from its nook in the case, shiny surface reflecting the dim glint of the fluorescent light over the mirror. You lower it down onto your head, and snap it into the fasteners in the collar of your bodysuit. The design of it barely limits your vision; the entire front is transparent despite its appearance, the eyes you realize now simply an aesthetic feature. And the tailor had one of these just lying around? How much did this all cost?

You step up to the graffitied mirror, observing your new persona in the pale fluorescent light. You look like a real motherfucker, you think.

“I look like a real motherfucker.”

Actual song starts at about 1:40
>>
Its 2AM and I'm going to go and pass out now, see y'all if you're still running.
>>
You pack your street clothes up into the suitcase and exit the bathroom. The cashier doesn’t look up from his magazine as you stride past him and into the darkness of the street. You slip into an alleyway, not wanting to draw any undue attention to yourself; there are few people on these streets at this time of night, but there are still some. 6:50. Your pace picks up to a jog, puddles shimmering and breaking beneath your pounding feet. Rain runs in rivulets down the front of your helmet.

You spot a building with a dilapidated red sign, text unreadable. You swiftly jaywalk across the street and down the alley on the other side. The second door is a sturdy metal one, you knock twice with your armoured fist. The echo dissipated in the wet alley, and a slit opens at eye level.

“Fighter?” a gruff question comes through the slit.

“Yeah,” you respond. You hear a deadbolt slide on the other side, and the door swings out.

You are lead down a short hallway past a few doors, stopping in a rather run down break room and kitchen. Two others are sitting around. One of them is a big man in a blue and white costume resembling a hockey player’s uniform, old-style goalie mask partially flipped up to drink a beer, hockey stick leaning up against the wall behind him. That would be Blue Line, you reckon. Allegedly one of Meatgrinder’s two prospective heirs. The other is a woman dressed in tight pants, an open leather jacket, and a stylized motorcycle helmet, all in red. Redline, of no connection to Blue Line whatsoever.

“You know the deal,” speaks the burly man who escorted you in, “the bell rings. One of you goes through the door there, and usually comes back through. You get your take on the way out.”

He walks away, presumably returning to his post. Blue Line belches loudly and sets his can down on the warped vinyl-top table. He looks to Redline, and then to you.

“So who the hell are you supposed to be?”

My Attempt at a red hood recolor just to get a rough idea of how it would look
>>
“Blindside.”

You lean up against a wall, resting your briefcase on the floor. Redline cocks her head slightly.

“Never heard of ya. What’s your thing?” he asks gruffly, cracking open another beer.

You think about it for a second, and then answer.

“I’m good at fighting. Really good,” you emphasize.

“That’s it? Shitty power.”

Your mouth tenses into a frown behind your mask, hands clenching ever so slightly.

“Good enough to fuck up a few Red Boys without breaking a sweat,” you spit back. You know you’re playing with fire, but it’s hard to resist. Something about the new costume is giving you more confidence than you have any right to.

“You little shitsack...” he trails off, growling. You see recognition in his eyes now. Redline remains silent, unmoving.

Before anything can come of your comment, a loud bell rings from behind a weathered door. Blue Line spits on the ground,

“Newest goes first.”

Redline simply nods. You silently groan; you had been hoping to go at least second, maybe giving you time to dig for a little bit of information, anything to get the upper hand. No such luck. You push off the wall and stride towards door. You hear the sudden screech of table legs along the floor and your power kicks in, allowing you to nimbly sidestep. Blue Line stands fuming, the table sliding to a stop against the wall. You ignore his failed aggression and continue to the door.

You turn the knob, and open the door. You are met by a sudden chorus of cheers and whistles, eyes struggling to adjust to the blinding spotlights hanging from the ceiling. You step forward.

all right fellas hows abouts we discuss weapons and loadouts some more?

cause WEAPONS SHOPPING BITCHES
>Limiting Factors
>till we know how much the fighting rings earn budget is $500
>max finished weight 20 pounds/9 kilograms
>must be buyable in walk-in shops in Canada(so no crazy shit yo...)

what I think we should get
extendable batons, 2 of them, one for each side.

a yellow DOOM-BAT(take childs whiffle-bat, insert rebar rod in center, then fill with concrete) they're disposably cheap and yellow whiffle bats would match out symbol color.

if we can get an extendable staff or spear that would be cool, but would need a tinker or good craftsman for it to not be shit.

cheap throwing stars/knives, lots(stars are easier to use, knives can be sheathed in a more accessible fashion) mall-ninja stuff is fine for now.

Stun-Guns/Tazers/Shock Batons cause zapping someone really hard can disincline them to fight(in the worm verse these seem to be very effective weapons)

cheap, high output smoke bombs and a lighter; these aren't for disappearing in a puff of smoke, but for giving us an advantage in cases of too many men to take down easily

pepper-spray, in Bear and Cougar Strength compounds, if we can convince him too we get The Tailor to make a new helmet that sprays it out of the third eye on our helmet or a sprayer on the gauntlets...makes "Blindside" seem to be a misnomer to our opponents.

>>11002
>>10813
that, and the ones that do porn probably also do the skimpy things, and the Brutes who're hard to damage, and the sluts, and
>>
>>11029
Since our fighting style involves targeting weak points, we'll want lots and lots of knives- if we can sense our own weak points, a buckler? Brutes who can just tank our damage/Armored suit Tinkers/Breakers/multiple people fuck us up, so we probably want mobility/range and lots of options.

So we're basically a combat-focused Tattletale/Sy who can actually fight?
>>
>>11399
>buckler
we got gauntlets, if they're tough enough we won't necessarily need them.

>lotsaknives
machetes and bush-blades are inexpensive, anonymous, and tough. we might do better with those for the time being, but yes, knives are a good thing to think about.
and Push-Knives give me a MASSIVE BONER
>>
>>11399
>>11436
This is why I mentioned I wanted to get into fencing and be named Musketeer.

Just using fucking guns should be right up our alley too, I don't see why our supreme physical precision shouldn't apply to the operation of firearms either.

Imagine it: Recoil wouldn't fucking matter to us, we could probably have an intuitive sense of where the people we were firing at were going to move/dodge like, we'd also probably have an intuitive sense of were the bullets would go, and we could twirl guns around like a total pimp.
>>
>>14148
That's a lot of probablies. And guns are kinda too lethal.
>>
>>14194
I'm completely down for just being a brawler in most situations, but the cold hard fact of the matter is that if we ever need to fight someone like Meatgrinder one on one, we're going to need something with some goddamned OOMF if we're gonna get out of it in one piece.

Don't make the mistake of thinking we're always going to be fighting mortal thugs.

Either way, I think we should be testing the full scope of our powers anyway.

Is it just precision for melee fighting, or could we cook like a champion too? Can we see a Hummingbird flapping it's wings?

We don't really know the scope, so I'd say getting to a shooting range should be in the realm of plausibility.
>>
>>14243
We are always going to be fighting mortal thugs though. No one's immortal in worm. Think Alexandria came the closest.

I'm down for guns only if our powers give us super precise aim. Otherwise too much risk of accidently killing someone.
>>
>>14343
These aren't weapons we NEED to use on everyone. We can have a double barrel shotgun slung to our back if we ever need to shoot Meatgrinder in the kneecap, but we can keep it stowed in all other situations.

Same goes with the sword.

I just want a "oh shit" button of some sort because I know for a fact a fist is not going to be capable of solving a significant amount of the situations that are liable to get thrown at us despite what kind of sick martial arts mastery we can apply.
>>
Love the setting. Catching up on the quest.
>>
>>14435
We don't need to use them on everyone, but I have a feeling we'll use them more than we should, if the option exists. Plus the sight of us with a gun will make our opponents bring out their lethal tactics to cope.
>>
>>14148
>Just using fucking guns should be right up our alley too,
yeah, but those are really hard to get, have HUGE legal requirements, and are attention-grabbing in all the wrong ways...though, thrown weapons, and for some reason, explosives aren't nearly as frowned upon. concussion grenades anyone? it even goes with our "blind-side" thing...
>>
>>14545
Non-lethal explosives aren't as frowned upon. Actual grenades will make the PRT fuck your shit right up.
>>
>>14513
I don't like that argument at all, it's basically "Us being more capable of defending our self will make us more of a target, so we shouldn't bother being more capable of defending our self."

Still, I see where you're coming from and there is some truth behind it; We will get dealt with more harshly if we have more harsh capabilities.

But is having a gun really so extreme? I mean, I own guns in real life and I would much rather be shot at than have some savage with super strength and metal skin bash through my door with the intention of beating my ass into a bloody pulp.

That's why I think you agonizing over us having a gun is kind of ridiculous. People can shoot fucking lasers out of their eyes in this world, a firearm isn't a big deal compared to that.

An aversion to guns makes sense in our world, but not necessarily in the Worm-verse. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if gun laws in the worm-verse were SIGNIFICANTLY more lax in order to allow normal folks to be able to defend themselves against superhuman thugs that mean them harm.

>>14610
As I said "frowned upon" shouldn't be a concern of ours considering it was perfectly possible to roll a character with death-vision, and it's also perfectly possible to run into someone with death-vision.
>>
