In the distant future of the year 1999, Humanity spread across the stars to explore the unexplorable, and conquer the unconquerable in order to sate its thirst for gold and glory. In this Golden Age of Exploration, thousands of planets became hubs of culture and plenty, but the countless worlds on the frontier of the Human Sphere have become lawless as only the central worlds obtain all the necessities for an orderly society.

The planet of New Arizona is one such place.

Thousands of settlers and those who’d seek their fortune only find an early grave as roving bands of cyborg bandits ride their terrible steeds across the sun blasted desert as they plunder the small settlements dotting the planet.

Yes, a terrible time for many. But sometimes, such conditions create a hero…. A hero who will bring justice to such lawless lands, and maybe make a humble fortune on the side.

And that hero is….

You wake up in a cold sweat as sunlight warmly kisses your face. Rising from your bed, you quickly get changed out of your bed clothes and prepare for the day.

Your name is Simon Steele, and you are on the path to revenge.

Your stomach growls like a New Texan Lizard on hot summer day and on a feeding frenzy. Before you start your day training, you had to do something about this hunger. The wood planks of your floor creak with every step as you shuffle your way to the fridge. The cold air bites your sweat coated skin as you open your fridge, rummaging through day old leftovers as you grab some slices of ham, a couple eggs, and milk.

Tossing them into the old meal fabricator, you turn on your radio and listen in on the goings-on of the New Frontier.

“Another day, another bandit attack! Yesterday night’s bank heist in Neo Tucson once again ends with the scoundrels of the Black Stars posse escaping with thousands in stolen property and cash. Law enforcement officers once again suffer heavy losses as the Black Stars continue their crime spree unmolested.”

Anger swells within you as your face starts to glow red.

Those Black Stars… how many lives must they take before they gets what’s coming to them? How many children must be left fatherless as they walk around, doing as they please with impunity?

Your hands ball up into fists. You just need something to break in two. You just need someone to unleash your rage.

But before you smash your table in two, the meal fabricator pings and you quickly dig into your breakfast as the radio continues its news story.

With a full belly, it was now time to for your daily training.

Grabbing your holstered Sonic Six Shooter, you head outside for some good old-fashioned gunslinging practice.

Stepping outside, the New Arizonan heat assaults you as you set up your practice targets. To most people, they'd probably prefer a more cooler climate, but not hardy folks like yourself.

“Computer, set up six targets a little away from here.” Inspecting your revolver thoroughly, you load six rounds into the chrome cylinder.

The computer quickly generates six holographic banditos in a variety of different stances; standing, crouching, and behind cover.

But how should you dispatch them?

“Computer!” you command, “Set that standing target for a quick draw at High Noon.”

The computer moves the other practice targets out of the way before the lone target assumes a dueling stance, its hands hovering a few inches from his revolver.

You spread your legs apart as you also prepare for the timer to count to zero.

Sweatdrops form and trickle down your face as you stand there for what seems like an eternity in the morning sun. Tumbleweed drifts with the wind as you and the hologram faceoff. Staring into each other’s eyes just to see a slight moment of hesitation, of fear, or perhaps a fire of passion.

And with a ring of a bell, the duel begins.

“DRAW!!!” the synthesized voice of the computer yells.

Quickly drawing the pistol from your side, you hastily point your six shooter at the target and fire. The laser beam flies true, and hits the target’s arm as it tried to grab its pistol.

The hologram falls onto the ground reeling, grabbing his injured arm.

“Target hit. Location: Right Arm, Non-Lethal.” The synthesized announces to you. Perhaps you should practice a bit more… You need to get better. You need to BE better.

For the next few hours, you continue practicing your morning training. High, low, and everything in between from Tiger Strikes, and Three-Headed Snake Style.

Now with your body honed as a weapon, you spend some free time left in your day.

You quickly mount upon your cyborg horse, and ride to Neo Tucson to try to get any sort of information as they were the most recent victim of the Black Stars.

The town of Neo Tucson was originally a boomtown set up during the initial resource rush. With a healthy population of three-hundred and twelve, it’s one of the more bonafide bastions of civilization despite falling on these hard times.

Entering the town, you can see about three lawmen cordoning off the ruined bank mentioned on the radio; as men and women went about their daily lives bringing shipments of supplies, and providing services to any fortune seeker.

Tying your steed by the water trough, you begin your search.

You push the doors of the saloon, and step inside the crowded room. Everyone stops what they’re doing and stare at you, probably not knowing whether or not you were going to rob the place at gunpoint. Taking a few slow methodical steps, the saloon slowly picks up where it left off.

A couple of patrons were gambling, while a few others were merely watching you, and one lucky man was being led upstairs by a lady’s finger.

Meandering around the patrons in various degrees of inebriation, you find your way to the counter as a jukebox plays an old song in the background.

The bartender closes her eyes, and smiles, “Sorry, sugar. I’m not on the menu today.” Motioning to a pair of working girls by the stairwell, “But perhaps one of these fine ladies here can satisfy you?”

You chuckle as you regain composure, “In all seriousness, I’m looking for what happened at that Bank across the street.”

She quickly pours a glass into a shot before placing it in front of you before placing her hands on her hips. “Well, those dang Black Stars robbed that bank yesterday. Killed some of the last good lawmen in this town.”

“I’m sorry to hear that, ma’am.” You take off your hat in respect.

Shaking her head before polishing the countertop, “No, no, it’s alright. And it’s Carolyn.”

“The townsfolk can’t just let these guys just do what they want. I can deal with them, or we can form a posse and drive them out!”

Carolyn slams her balled up fist onto the counter. The whole saloon falls silent once again, and a few patrons quickly file out.

“We-we already tried that years ago, Sir.” Carolyn says, trying to calm herself down. “My father…he…he didn’t make it. We just don’t have the weapons, or training even if we did band together.”

You place your hand on her fist, “Don’t worry, I’ll deal with them. I have what those cityfolk call a ‘personal vendetta’, I just need to know where their hideout is.”

Her fist loosening, she utters, “Fool’s Gold Gulch. They’re in the mine at Fool’s Gold Gulch.”

“Thank you, Car-” you were interrupted as the town bell was rung.

“THE BLACK STARS ARE COMING! EVERYONE STAY INDOORS!” The alarm system blares.

“Looks like I have to collect a debt. Although I hate to end a conversation with such a beautiful woman." Putting your wide brim hat back onto your head, you make your way out of the saloon.

“Be safe.” Carolyn urges.

You raise your hand, and do a small salute as you once again brave the heat.

High Noon

You step onto the sandy ground in the middle of the town as you see a few dark figures from across the horizon. Putting on your sunglasses, you see them better. You hear the sounds of roaring engines, and in the distance, you see three riders on motorcycles with a shattered star flag.

The three riders ride into town on their bikes, circling around you like a shark circling its prey. The terrified townspeople can only peek outside their windows, and pray for the best. The lead rider on his bike slams on the brake, causing a cloud of dust to blow in your general direction as the other two riders follow suit.

“Mighty fine day don’t you think, boy?” The leader asks as he dismounts his bike, “Perfect day for getting groceries might I add.”

Motioning to his two underlings, a robot and lizardman, the two Black Stars make their way to the water purifier.

>“This town is under my protection, son.”

Crossing your arms, you spit on the ground, “This town is under my protection, son.

The robot and lizardman stop, and immediately turn around to stare at you, almost shocked. It seems like they weren’t used to someone saying no to them.

To say their boss popped a vein or two and was fuming with rage would have been an understatement.

“Have you half a brain between your ears, boy?” he asks, his movements becoming more livid, “Do you know who we are, who I am? We’re the Black Stars and we own this town!”

He slowly walks towards you until he’s just blowing wind in your face. “These people live because WE let them, boy! I can crush you under our boots.”

Motioning to his holstered gun, “Don’t call me son, b-”

And that’s when you strike!

After years of going through training, it was only muscle memory guiding your body. Slamming both of your fists against the side of his head, the first two heads of the normally deadly Twin-Headed Cobra. He doesn’t even get to scream in pain before you quickly grab him by the head and deliver the third head of the Three-Headed Cobra by headbutting the bridge of his nose.

Releasing your grip, he bites the dust and lies unconscious. The two henchmen stand in shock before the lizardman lunges at you with claws and teeth at the ready!

You’re caught off guard by the lizardman’s speed as he barrels towards you, carrying you a few feet before tossing you onto the dirt.

It growls before hissing, “I ssshall be your end, Human!”

You quickly close the distance and duck and dodge the lizardman’s slow, but powerful strikes. Had one of them hit you, you’d be in the infirmary with a few broken bones. Once at its flank, you begin unleashing a deadly barrage of karate chops, and kicks, but to no avail!

Backflipping away before he strikes, you pull out your Sonic Six Shooter, and blast him as he’s flailing about, scoring a smouldering direct hit to its chest.

Aiming down the sights of your gun at the robot, you change your mind before shifting your aim at a street sign and pull the trigger.

The laser deflects from the polished metal sign, and melts the key of the motorcycle as the robot was about to activate to the ignition. The bot meekly raises his metal hands into the air as he surrenders himself.

“Looks like we have a new boss in town.” You say to nobody in particular.

Slowly, but surely, the locals slowly leave their homes to see the men that they feared for years either dead, injured, or surrendering themselves. After years of oppression, they’re finally able to breathe a sigh of relief. Some of them celebrated with dancing and singing while the bandits were taken into custody, while some dreaded what the Black Stars would do to them when they receive word that some of their men were taken down.

Out the corner of your eye, you see Carolyn stride toward you.

“So what happens now, sugar?” she asks, “Once word gets back to the leaders, they will stop at nothing to wipe us off the face of the map, and make an example of us.”
