>Slashy the Pumpkin says: Welcome back boys and ghouls to the second part part of CAMP RED WATER, the Summer Camp where children learn all about survival in the woods...through hands on experience! He-he-he-he!

This is a team vs team skirmish quest. Ideally you choose to play for either the slasher team or the survivor team, but you can play for both teams if you like. The goal is to tell a fun story and help develop a simple forum RPG system.

Also to totally punk the other team.

Welcome to Camp Red Water, a children's summer camp staffed by teenagers. The camp is designed to force children to focus on the solitude and majesty of nature. There's one emergency phone in the mess hall (middle left) now cut. The nearest town is miles away. Phones don't connect. The Internet is far, far away.

Far back behind the boys and girls cabins lies an old abandoned cabin (not pictured), a leftover from when The Order of Syrinx stood on this land. The Order was an esoteric group rumored to hold Satanic rituals back in the "Satanic Panic" days of the 1980's. According to ex-member testimony they practiced child sacrifice. But when the FBI encroached on the compound to raid it Waco-style...they found not a soul, and no evidence of Satanic practice.

Survivors, don't expect to find escape from the garage or docks. The Slashers have already made certain escape through car or boat is impossible...

THE SLASHERS

THE SYRINX BROTHERS

Near-immortal slashers that have killed throughout the highways and backroads of North America for almost a century, kept young and healthy by the enslavement of consumption of children's' souls according to ancient Pythagorean rituals. Their wand is running low on souls, and they believe the establishment of a children's camp on what was once ground devoted to the worship of Pan is a sign from the great god that they are to hunt once more...

SLASHER VICTORY CONDITIONS:

1. All survivors killed

2. Half of all children are killed. There are a total of 20 children. 4 are in the utility shed. 16 are with the group heading to the mess hall.

And now on with our show!

Happy hunting one and all!

.......

Its almost too incredibly to believe. You feel surreal as you tear through the dirt path as if you were in a dream. Your body drifts in space as your mind struggles with the reality of the situation.

Shelly is dead. There are psychopaths in the camp. Poor Kenny has a gaping hole in his side. He left a bloody handprint when he touched your shoulder to try and convince you not to run to the shed.

This is all real. Mere minutes ago all this would be fantasy. You were getting ready to take the kids for an evening nature hike with Val...and then Kenny runs out of the shadows, white as a sheet and dripping red blood to the ground.

Wolves. You told the children it was wolves...

Mary is in danger. And the distance is keeping you from her. And no matter how hard you push yourself you can't seem to make that distance shrink.

You feel trapped, as if you were in one of those dreams where you run and run and run and go nowhere.

But this is real, you remind yourself. This is real...

You nearly tackle Ren as you speed by him. You twist and nearly shred your ankle getting out of his way.

"Woah woah woah Lynn! You nearly bowled me over! Where you going in such a rush?"

"Ren!" You gasp. "Oh thank god Ren you're alive!"

"Yeah...why wouldn't I be alive? You alright Lynn?"

>TELL HIM EVERYTHING. TELL HIM TO RUN TO THE SAFETY OF THE GROUP YOU LEFT BEHIND

"Ren, Mary and Johnny and the kids are in danger!"

"...What? Slow down, what do you mean-"

"Shelly is dead! Kenny is wounded! There are...men out here trying to kill us."

"...This...This is a joke right?"

You grab his shirt. "DO I LOOK LIKE I'M JOKING!"

"But...holy shit how is...I mean are you sure...what?"

"I need your help."

"Where's everyone else?"

"They're taking the kids not with Mary's group to the mess hall."

"And Shelly is....really..."

"They killed him like an animal, Kenny said. He barely got away himself."

"...Alright." Ren bounces on his feet as he psyches himself up. "Alright alright alright lets go! Let's go save them!"

The two of you tear off into the night together.

"Thank you for your patience." You sling the chains off your shoulder and place the gasoline at his feet. "Now I moved all this from the boathouse. It's only fair you do the work of setting up."

"Yes big brother." Your towering sibling says lifting the tools with monstrous ease.

>SURVIVORS ACTIVE

"You are trapped!" Mary exclaims. "Your 19 strength is not enough to bend the bars!"

"Percentile dice are so lame..." One of the boys complains.

"Dude you were trying to bend steel. With your bare hands."

"Still so lameeeeee."

"Suddenly there's a sound! You hear a light, mechanical noise coming from the walls. Tick tick tick tick..."

"More insects? Come on Mary..." Johnny says.

"Are they umber hulks? Umber hulks would really wreck our shit.." Tina asks.

"Tina!" Mary exclaims. "Watch your language!"

"Umber hulks are exclusively in the underdark!"

"Not in this setting!" Two boys of the boys argue while a third looks over his character sheet.

"Oh! Oh!" He raises his hand. "I bet this is a trap! The walls are slowly closing in to to crush us! I can roll to look for an exit or a switch to stop it!"

Mary beams with pride. "Good thinking! Wait...did anyone hear that?"

The utility shed falls silent.

"Hey cool!" Johnny says. "It sounds like chains wrapping around the door! How are you doing that?"

"I'm not doing it Johnny...."

"Oh great. I bet its Kenny or Ren. The goofballs. Hey guys!" Johnny shouts. "We're trying to play a game in here!"

The sound of metal chains grows faster and louder.

Johnny gets out of his chair. "Alright guys knock it off already."

>WHO CHECKS THE DOOR?

>>808170
One thing I've learned over the course of these quests is not to underestimate meta meme magic.

Which character's Dungeons and Dragons character would be better suited in this situation?

I'm thinking they're going to have to jump out of the way of a weapon, and quickly close the door. So whose character has the best balance between dexterity and strength? Or strength and whatever stat would go into dodging weapons, I don't know too much about DnD.
>>
>>808170
If Mary checks the door, wouldn't it make her immune to attacks due to Johnny's presence?
>>
>>808205
It would mean Johnny can bullet time over to take the hit for her.
>>
>>808186
>Meta meme magic

>Currently facing off against Moloch's casino in Sibella Quest.

>Conspiracy theorists say Clinton either worships or IS Moloch

W-What does this mean? My occult studies never mentioned this!

And Mary is forever-DM who dreams of playing a rangers based on Lynn. Johnny is a bard. So its sort of up in the air.
>>
>>808223
>>808170

Let's send Johnny over then. Sending Mary over and then having Johnny tank the hit would be cool, but there's not enough votes for it.
>>
>>808275
Johnny would die the first hit. Have him grab a weapon in the shed and kick the door open. Then wack the closest thing outsode the door (besides the door). Or if theres a chainsaw, through the door it goes.
>>
>>808296
Sorry, I should clarify. You dont shove the chainsaw through the door to break it but rather to mutilate Luke.
>>
>>808296
It seems a little meta for Johnny to grab a weapon when he suspects that Kenny or Ren is playing a trick on them. Can't make optimal moves all the time, I feel.
>>
>>808296
>>808317
There IS a chainsaw. And Johnny can wield it. Metagamey? Somewhat. But you could also argue in his own over the top way he's trying to scare Ren and Kenny.

"Alright." Johnny says hefting an axe. "If they want to play psycho killers..."

"Johnny what are you doing?" Mary gasps.

An enormous knife comes crashing down, air hissing along its edge. It clips Johnny in the side as it passes.

He screams and recoils, but flight or fight instinct fuses his fingers around his weapon.

Mary gathers the children near her, shielding them with her own body.

.....

Your lungs burn, but the sudden sight of the utility shed pushes the pain out of your mind.

There's a giant doing something to the door...and then he's inside the door. A man in a Hillary Clinton mask watches him enter, knife at the ready...

>HOW TO FIGHT BACK

You basically force the target Slasher to make a Ferocity role against you. If the Slasher fails the roll they take damage. Unlike a Survivor, when a Slasher takes damage they are stunned allowing for Survivors in the encounter to try escaping or to risk attacking the slasher again.

The Slasher is no longer stunned if they succeed on a ferocity roll. Survivors have to decide whether it is best to risk attacking a stunned Slasher again and removing the stun (and taking damage) or to run away.

Not every Survivor can fight back. Most need to arm themselves with a weapon first. Ren and Lynn, being the Jock and Martial Artist respectively, can fight back with their fists. Johnny can fight back having armed himself with an ax. Mary needs a weapon to fight back, but looking for a weapon might leave the kids vulnerable...

When a ferocity roll is forced through fighting back the Slasher subtracts the weapon score of everyone attacking him from their ferocity in additon to whatever passive debuffs he has in the encounter. The Survivors want to force the ferocity score into the negatives to make it more likely that the roll will fail and damage and stun the Slasher.

Lynn and Ren have weapon scores of 1 each. Johnny has a weapon score of 2.

>SURVIVOR TEAM, ASSIGN MOVES TO THE SURVIVORS IN THIS ENCOUNTER

Note: There's a lot of options here. Do Ren and Lynn focus on attacking John the Psycho? Does one of them attack him while the other enters the utlity shed? Does Mary move away from the kids to find a weapon and help Johnny fight Luke the Maniac?

Ren dashes forward, and throws himself at the back of the monster. The monster takes two steps forward, no more.

He pulls his own dagger out of his chest and stares at the blood on it curiously.

"Huh. That went in pretty deep, huh?" He mutters to himself. "Oh well." With a flick of his wrist he showers Mary and the children with his blood.

Ren scrambles to his feet, stunned to see the monster calmly yank the weapon out of himself.

Johnny grits his teeth and tightens his grip on his ax. "Oh god...Oh jeeze...Just stay away man, whatever you are just stay away!"

"That's not how you hold an ax." Luke says raising his arm. "You get no strength in your swing that way. Big Brother told me that." He shakes with happy anticipation as he readies a downward strike.

....

"KEE-YAH!" Lynn screams as she drives a knee straight into John's mask. The plastic crunches under the impact and he rolls away. "I HOPE I BROKE YOUR NECK YOU SICK FUCK!"

John chuckles as he picks himself off the ground and the sound chill's Lynn's blood. "Oh, little girl, little girl...J. Edgar Hoover couldn't stop me. What hope do you have?" He winks out her with the one eye hole not crumpled by her blow. "Do you even know what I am?"

"Some sort of psychopathic Satan worshiper, is that it?" Lynn pants as she steadies herself and brings her fists up.

"Oh child...." John shakes with rage. "Oh child no no no no. Satan is worshiped by attention seekers. Rockstars and children. And I assure you the last thing I have ever wanted was attention..." John calmly reaches into his jacket pocket.

"Hey! You put your hands where I can see them you fuck or I swear I will fucking end you! I will kill you, you hear me?"

John pulls out his hand to reveal a tiny device. It is only when he presses the catch and the long, thin blade springs out that Lynn knows what it is.

"That...That doesn't scare me!"

"Do you know who worships the Great God Pan? Do you know what types of men court his favor?"

Lynn knows how fast hands move. She's sparred with boxes. She's defeated boxers.

John moves faster. The blade snaps from his hands and Lynn feels it bite into her hip.

"ARGH!" She screams as she falls to one knee.

"Hunters, girl." John saws slowly approaching her. "Hunters worship the Great God Pan."

JOHNNY TAKES 1 DAMAGE

>Cunning attacks

Now to experiment with a new mechanic. Its rather awkward to have "Slice the Survivor" "Slice his hamstrings" and "Grab the Survivor" as separate choices. Rather, to simplify things and to increase the important of Cunning I've decided to add CUNNING ATTACKS.

Whenever a Slasher hits with an attack they may attempt a cunning roll to add on a CUNNING EFFECT to the damage. This represents the Slasher knowing not only how to hit but how to hit for effect. A CUNNING EFFECT could represent stabbing a leg to make running harder, grabbing an enemy, blinding an enemy, and even causing them to slowly bleed to death.

The more cunning the enemy, the more options they''ll have. Some types of Slasher will have access to different tables of effects.

His screams fill the shed as the knife comes out with a sickening plop.

"Good boy." John compliments. "Now don't let him escape."

"Oh, I don't think he's going anywhere Big Brother." Johnny nearly collapses in his arms. He squirms and jerks but can not even budge Luke's massive arms. His screams shorten as Luke squeezes him and his ribs compress...

>>

>>
>>814338
I think it should. But maybe only for survivors. Luck isnt really something that would impact a killer that has already confronted his victims. Nor would it impact a trap or chase. The survivor, on the otherhand, in the flush of fear and hum of adrenaline (fight or flight response), is prone to many actions (impulses, planned, or instinctual) and consequences that proceed, whether a godsend or lethal to his/her own being. I think its best to illustrate that through rolls.

Maybe when a survivor is spooked, scared, or panicked, the range to which "crits" should be indicated will expand from the value of 1 or 20, each of which have a 5â„… chance of being generated. So for example, Johnny at the moment is panicked. Events involving him become more unpredictable, like an animal driven to wits end, he is volatile. His critical failure is now 1 to 5 inclusive and his critical successes are now 15 to 20 inclusive. Or maybe it would make more sense to half the increase of the critical success range relative to the increase in the critical failure range. So 1 to 5 for a crit. failure and 19 (or 18, depends how you want to round off) to 20. Does this make sense?

The failures of survivors will obviously help the killer(s) but otherwise, I dont believe there should be a crit element for killers. I love the cunning idea though. Its much more appropriate than crits for the killer(s). I prefer playing for the killer team, by the way. I only answer for survivors because there hadnt been anyone to answer for them.
>>
>>814338
Also, I think we SHOULD be meta for at least John. From context thus far, hes an experienced, methodical killer. He is also extremely likely a sociopath. He only things that should drive him from optimal choices is:
1. Hubris. His hamartia, or fatal flaw, is that he is too prideful. He underestimates his victims: the kids. And it is also very likely that he has never truly "hunted" (or for a long while) anyone that stand toe to toe with him. He would be baffled but likely, before this, in subconscious denial.
2. Severe harm or death to his brother. Linked to his pride of being a hunter. This would be outside his calculations. He may either just not care all too much, being a methodical sociopath, or respond erratically.
3. Religious passion. His ultimate goal as a missionary and hunter of Pan is to serve the Wild God.
>>
>>814392
I like this option to be honest. I've had my fair share of 20's and 1's over these past few threads, and the killers should be able to get some bonuses after getting crits since they get maluses on a critfail.
>>
>Ren tackle John at the knees
Maybe we can hurt his leg slow him down even more
>Lynn can pick up the first knife she kicked from John and stab Luke right between the shoulder blades
(if the knife is within her reach) >if not a good kick to the back of the legs
Luke cant fight back while Johnny is in play.

>Mary needs to round up the kids and get ready to make a break for it.
>>
>>814405
>>814424
>>814428
>>814439
I've thought about it, and I think the idea of making crits something that panicked survivors have.

I think I also need to change the quest vocabulary.

The four tiers of rolls are now called exceptional failure, failure, success and exceptional success. Critical failures and critical successes are what you get on a 20 or 1 for Survivors-although some survivors modify this in certain ways.

Most survivors need to be in fight or flight mode to trigger criticals. Taking nerve damage might cause it to worsen. At low enough levels you lose the ability to critical succeed and only have a chance to critically fail.

There's a lot of cool things that can come out of a "panic" system. The Worry Wart could ALWAYS be in panic. He always has critical failures and successes on. The Survivalist knows how to keep calm under pressure and can only critically succeed when panicked.

Just another thing to further flesh out for Slasher Quest: Carnival of Corpses!

"He takes order from the smaller one in the Hillary Clinton mask..." Ren thinks quickly. "If I can grab him then maybe I can stop both of them..."

Ren leaps toward John only to find himself falling past him with a gash in his side.

"Need any help Big Brother?"

"No thank you Luke." John stands over Red, wet knife in his hand. "I'm doing just fine."

REN TAKES ONE DAMAGE

"No...let go!" Johnny squeaks as the breathe is squeezed out of him. "Let...go!"

"I wonder if I can make him do the noises like that one back in Arkansas..."

"Pan does appreciate the sounds of entrapped prey..." John says.

"Let me...GO!" With a final burst of effort Johnny swings his ax into Luke's arm.

Luke drops him to the ground with a thud that makes the entire shed shake. "Ouch." He says touching the wound. "I guess you still have some fight left in you. Good. Pan likes prey that fights back. And so do I!"

JOHNNY FREED

Lynn's teeth chatter together as waves of pain and nausea sweep over her. The blade is stuck inside her. She doesn't know whether to try pulling it out of not. She doesn't know how to move to make the wound stop hurting. She doesn't know if standing up will just make it worse.

But she does know she can reach the knife she kicked out of John's hand. And she knows that if she does not she and all her friends are dead.

She crawls through the grass, grabs the knife, and then ignoring the surging pain in her hip dives for the back of the monster she sees blocking the doorway.

She's never hurt anyone before, not really, not like this, not actually desiring to kill them.

She is amazed at how easy the blade slides in, craves a red line down his back, and then slides back out again.

Luke roars in pain.

2 DAMAGE. 4 HEALTH REMAINING.

Mary rallies the kids behind her, but can't find a way to move them to safety with so many bodies crowding the utility shed.

"Oh foolish, foolish youth. You would have done better to run." John's knife cuts a deep gash down Ren's side as he rolls from the pain and slams into the wall. Metal and plastic tools clang and rattle throughout the shed. "You would have lived longer and we would have had a better chase.

Sammy tries to help bandage up Kenny somehwere away from the eyes of the kids (kitchen?) while Val tries to be stern and commanding, professionally urging the kids to calm down. Actually that's really good for the Slashers. They deal damage on high rolls, take damage on low rolls.

In fact, you just killed off Johnny and would nearly have killed Lynn but Johnny's ability lets him tank into the negatives.

DAMAGE OVERVIEW

Lynn: 2 Health remaining (Half Dead)

Mary: 1 Health remaining (undamaged)

Johnny: Dead

Ren: 2 Health remaining (half dead)
>Slashers

Luke: 5 Health Remaining (healed one)

John: 3 Health Remaining (undamaged)

......

I'm debating with myself what to do about passive debuffs. Should they be "locked in" when an encounter starts? When Survivors show up to an encounter in progress should they add their passives to the encounter's passives as they did here? Now that Johnny is dead should the Slasher's gain back 2 points?

I'd like to hear any thoughts on the matter.

Lynn tries to stab Luke again but in the chaos and confusion misses. She steps on her leg awkwardly. Pain from the knife stuck inside her causes her to trip. Her head hits the aluminum floor and the world spins. She can feel the footsteps of the giant above her as he straddles her fallen body.

"I'll unzip you! Just like you tried to unzip me!" He screams as he brings the blade down...only to hit instead Johnny.

"Johnny!" Lynn screams.

The childrens' screams make the thin cheap walls shake.

"You got in the WAY you stupid stupid stupid STUPID STUPID STUPID!" Luke goes berserk. He lifts the barely-living body with one hand and bangs it against the ceiling.

Luke slams Johnny against the ceiling again and again. Blood rains down in spurts.

"No! Stop! Stop it you monster! You're killing him!" Lynn shrieks, not able to tell Johnny died mercifully on the second slam.

"GOT IN MY WAY GOT IN MY WAY GOT IN MY WAYYYYY!"

"That's the spirit!" John claps. "That's the Luke I know and love!"

"Die you sicko!" Ren screams as he picks up Johnny's axe and brings it crashing down on Johns' shoulder.

The old wizard gasps. He hasn't felt pain like this in decades. He falls to his knees.

The shed shakes as Luke drops Johnny's battered corpse.

He turns toward Ren.

"You...You HURT MY BROTHER!"

A long, heavy hammer fortuitiously rolls by Mary. She mutters a quick prayer and grabs it with both hands...

Hell no. Marys the first to go. So as to not be META, this is how this goes: Luke is sick and tired of interferences and catches (periphery, eyesight) Mary picking up the hammer. In a fit of wild range and frustration, he flings Johnny at her before proceeding to maul Ren like a 2-ton bear. But since he can only attack once a turn, Mary first. While Ren is distracted by the sight of his friend going airborne across the room towards his friend (and cracking her skull?), John slit this fucker's ankles (or cutting the achilles heel leads to much pain).

"RARGH!" Luke yells as he hefts Johnny's pulped corpse above himself with both hands before tossing it like a missile at Mary.

The body cracks her skull like an egg. The children are flattened under his and her bodies. They scream and struggle and reach out for Lynn as she reaches out for them. She crawls toward them, not knowing what she can do, only knowing that she must do something...

LUKE HEALTH: 6 (Healed one)

"Oh god no!" Ren screams. "Johnny! JOHNNY!"

Luke descends on him like a gorilla, oversized arms moving up and down like pistons slamming gore-crusted knuckles into body and floor until it all becomes a single twitching, dying mass.

John sticks his dagger between the chaos and strikes the throat, putting whatever is left alive to rest.

"Luke!" He shouts. "LUKE!" He slams his shoulder into his brother. "Luke you dumb bastard control yourself!"

Luke sits breathing heavily in the gore, eyes wide and unfocused like an animal.

"You did it again you stupid bastard! You got carried away again!" He strikes at Luke's back and he covers away like an enormous child. "I-I'm sorry Big Borther! I"m sorry!"

"Efficient boy, we kill efficiently! Not like animals! If man couldn't hunt any better than the animals Pan would have no love for our race! Now on your feet. The children have stopped screaming but I know they're still alive under those bodies. We need to do our duty."

Actually that's good for the slashers. In Slasher Quest only Slashers roll (because they're always the focus of the movie) while survivors debuff.

"Now grab her." John motions to Lynn.

"Can she be my pet? She's very pretty..."

Lynn grabs the hammer, soaked in the blood of her friends. The children hold their breathe and try to be as quiet and still as possible. Seeing their fearful eyes gives Lynn a surge of stenght.

She picks herself up, determined to fight to the end for her charges.

"No. Not this one boy. This one is worthy prey indeed. You're like one of the Nymphs that Pan or Apollo would chase..." John smiles. "Full of fire, full of life..."

"I'm going...to kill...both of you..." Lynn's vision blurrs. She stumbles through the haze. She's moving so slow and she doesn't understand why...

John catches her arm. Easily. Lynn gives a faint cry of despair as she realizes all is lost.

The children are dead.

John hurls her toward Luke. "But they were all caught in the end. Caught or transformed. Take her down the water Luke."

She bites into his arm, knowing full well the monster can't even feel it. He pats her hair with one disgusting mishapened hand.

"May Pan accept you to his Fields and hunt you forever more, worthy Nymph..."

Luke flings her over his shoulder. The sound of blood pumping in her ears and her own sobs almost keeps her from hearing the cries of the children as she's taken down to the lake.

Almost.

Anything that means they can't come crashing in like a giant pair of retards and murder all the survivors at once.

Judging by their stats it seems like the pair of them could fight all the survivors at the same time and still win, which is bullshit when they have complete map awareness and the dice system is set up to favor them.

This'd make for a pitifully short movie.
>>
>>829420
Confirm. Have John disguise as a man helping an unconcious child.
>>
>>829435
So the problem sin't that its too hard for the Slashers but that its too easy?

I totally feel you on that.

Lynn broke my heart as well. The sequel is going to be her, transformed into a real Nymph by Syrinx herself and killing a boat full of Syrinx cult members The Crow style

1E rules are going to change a few things:

1. Survivor's Nerve stat is virtually useless at the moment, and making it something the Slashers can effect easier won't balance things any. Cunning is used to add effects to Slasher damage. Nerve might be used to allow the Survivors to do things, but instead of adding effects to damage it adds effects to running away.

See, my idea right now is to give Slashers an edge in fighting (as they should) but give Survivors an edge in running away. When they successfully flee they can force the Slasher to roll Cunning- their nerve to see if they totally elude the Slasher and end the chase, trick the Slasher into running into a trap, or trick the Slasher into wasting time searching.

2. "Forced Retreats" where a Slasher takes X amount of damage and has to escape. Think Friday the 13th on the NES. It could also represent the many times a Slasher is "dead" just to get back up again. It would help nerf the Slashers.

3. Lynn's ability is now the norm for Ferocity rolls. The Martial Artist will have a new ability.

4. Lower Slasher stats in general. +3 might be the highest one of their stats should go.

The main idea of the mechanics is to make Survivors weak and vulnerable when alone but able to bring the hammer down when they all gang up on a Slasher. I think a big problem is that we had two Slashers and 8 survivors.

What would a good ratio be? 6-8 for one decently powerful Slasher? That's about what the F13 films do. So a game with two powerful slasher would have 20 Survivors or so.

It would be interesting to run a Texas Chainsaw esque game where the Slashers aren't very powerful but are numerous...

How do you guys (the two that are probably still playing) feel about these ideas?
>>
>>829479
>SURVIVORS, ASSIGN 3 DEBUFFS FOR THE FINAL ENCOUNTER

Will have to agree with him
I am the anon who made you the map and the shitty portraits and i left this midway because i was waiting for the story to become more action based, since the start was a bit of a bore... Then it was almost over. Use your Twitter, Luke Skywalker. I had no idea this kept on going.

If anything, you should make use of the spoilers to convey information for both teams
If one side knows the locations of the other it becomes too hard to resist the temptation to metagame and then create roleplaying to justify their decisions. If both sides have the same information then it becomes impossible to avoid this, even if only to survive.
Putting the characters at the start in a way that made sense for their personality put us at a disadvantage.
Sending our leader and our fighter on an excursion made sense from a story point of view but it was horrible from an strategic one. Playing in character is a huge disadvantage here,

Survivors: Survivor 1 is in X, Survivor 2 and 3 are in Y, and so on

Slashers: Slasher is in room B, you know Survivor 3 is with someone is room Y

Also, maps. Simple, sketchy ones are fine.
Keeping tabs on many survivors with so many locations becomes a chore quickly.
Some visual aid like maps and tokens that can be quickly modified without taking too much of your time And there has to be one different copy for each side

If it makes any sense, i think this would play better as a Clue-like board game with elements of Werewolf/Mafia, than as a Quest.
To be run as one you should run it as if it were a board game. Sorta.

For the start to be more interesting, have the killers rigging the place be a necessity. At the start i felt i was building a barrel to store a school of fish in while i went for my gun.
It felt like i was stalling to wait for the survivors to be in a better position to put up a fight, because simply rushing in with all the information i had of their surroundings would have won us the game, just like that. That's not fun.

And have the survivors going on their day to day activities passively strengthen their stats when they are fighting for their lives later.
>Survivor 1 went around clearing the leaves, he now has a bonus when it comes to navigation in the camp
>Survivor 4 took the kids on a trip and they brought poison ivy to teach the rest of the campers to avoid it. Item acquired [Poison Ivy]
>Survivor 8 watched a wacky movie with the kids, they now have a bonus when working together
>>
>>829655
Stuff like that, so there is a time for the survivors to strenghten themselves in a way that makes sense and forces the slashers to decide what makes more sense for them to sabotage. Should they take the tools away so the fence can't be repaired? Should they sabotage the movie proyector so it shows a scary image before breaking and freaking out the kids?
They don't have all the time in the world, after all. And the survivors, as a whole, strengthen themselves faster than the killers can debuff them. So waiting too long to attack is detrimental and so is simply stealthing the whole run. It wouldn't be a good movie if they all die before the group realizes they are all dying, right?
To avoid this going the way of the dinosaur, make options such as [Cut the energy on the whole play area] impossible, otherwise we are right back where we started

Heck, as something out of the left field, why not make us choose one survivor to gain a [Final Girl] tag Regardless of gender and recieve Slasher-like stats, but with plenty of limitations so as to not make said character into an outright weapon agains the killers. If said character is killed, the tag transfers to another, becoming more powerful the more dead survivors there are. Because if the wrong (or right) survivors die, then the game might as well be over. That would be a good way to keep Slashers as they are.

For the stats, i left my critique Fuck, that sounds conceited on the previous slasher quest where i said i found the Ferocity stat to be overpowered.

I think you should keep running this quest as it is, so as to keep gouging what works and what doesn't. Anything you want to modify from your system based on feedback, you should do on the next one.
>>
>>829496
>1
I had forgotten the Nerve stat even existed, i can't tell you if the change is good yet because i have no idea what it used to stand for

>Forced retreats should be an automatic thing, per say. More like:
>The higher the cunning, the easier is to run away when enraged
>The higher the ferocity, the harder is to break off combat

>3
It's okay, i guess. Maybe a little overpowered, but we are still in the testing phase.

>4
Depends on the survivors and their abilities. This factor varies so wildly it is hard to decide what would be good way to balance the slasher

>>
>>830679
Yeah, I think a lot of people are feeling that way as well.

Would it be alright if I called the game here rather than draw it out to its torturous conclusion?

Its clear that when the number of Survivors get low there needs to be something that comes into play to give them a reason to keep playing-a sudden escape route opens up or something like anon suggested where there's a "Final Girl" character that gets stronger the more survivors are killed off and whose class gets transferred when she or he dies.

Agreed the dynamic between them is really good
>>
Actually, although I was more for the slasher side this entire quest, I have tried to make the best choiced for the survivors. Where I noticed I slipped up was where I chose to send Lynm ALONE from the boys and girls cabin. If we had sent one of the leaders, Sammy or Val, we would been able to use their leader buffs with the four other survivors present in the utility shed. You see, the thing about the slasher team is that theyre SUPPOSED to be seemingly superior. A killer doesnt attempt to kill who he/she thinks he/she cannot. Understand? And heres the thing about survivors: they are flux factor. THEY change the outcome. Not the slashers. They are what the slashers must account for a possess considerable foresight to handle and keep reigned in a psychological cage.

The way I see it, this isnt purely physical, but more so psychological. Fortunately this, if youre following, gives the survivors the ability to "turn the tables", so to speak. Thought they can only do this by being SMART. They can only win if they effectively synergize their inidividual skill sets and oust their ouwn hunter in a gake of wits. Not strength. What we employed here, having barge in to the utility shed (alone at least) was a demonstration of hard-headed strength. Something that can only suceed if we were indeed the stronger fighter. But we werent. Luke and John were.

So the problem isnt neccesarily found within the OP and his plot but us and our underestimation of the slashers, along with our actions that overestimate the survivors' own abilities to overwhelm the slashers. We HOPED we couls save Mary and John (not me but you get the idea). So we sent Lynn. But hope isnt what gets a job done. If you know Greek mythology, ever consider why it released/found from Pandora's box? But I do believe
>>
>>831167
Okay, sorry for not finishing. Life was calling. Also, sorry for the typos. Life. What I want to suggest is that you (now adressing the OP specifically) add one more health point to all survivors. I understand that you wanted to make ot balanced and all but the many anons here will not manage to effectively use the survivors and our surroundings as single congregation focused on eliminating the slashers. That said you may need to buff the survivors, minorly of course. The best way to do that is to add heslth. This will give them/us more time to think. The quest here escalated to quickly (which was your intention but still) and kept the survival anons' minds lagging in the safe zone. We need to see what the slasher(s) can really do before we begin acting with vector and resolve. Increasing heslth is the best way to do this. Like Mary--she has one health. You have to be anemic or something to have one health. The amount of luck to throw a body and supposedly crack someone elses skull on impact is very low. That shouldve been a critical success for 2 points of damage. The +1 health will give them some breathing room.
>>
>>831172
Sorry for the many typos again. I know the difference between to and too. And I meant the luck needed is high, not low.
>>
Also. I agree with lime green anon on all point except for the final girl tag. And the spoilers a bit modified. No x yz crap. The slashers should know what the survivors are doing if we take an active action to WATCH. The survivors CAN do thid but will not have the freedom to do so whenever. Maybe they were chased, escaoed, but chose to turn back abd stalk their stalkers? Also, convey slasher movements and action through the survivor narrative.

"Her head snaps to the side. Something is there. The shadows swim ominously, cold and silent. But she sees it. She sees it."

Or

The sound troupe. The survivors hear a sound. Or an premonition? Something to vaguely, VERY VAGUELY, describe slasher actions if theyre close enough and intend to act towards the survivor or group of his/her fellow survivors, though only if he/she is also in this particular group. Like the prewrite above. The slasher lies in hiding, waiting for a chance to strike. But doing so allows the premonition character to provide the survivor team information on slasher actions. Here, this would be Mary. In fact, I actually thought of HER as the main character, not Lynn if there ever is to be any.
>>
>>831172
That's bullshit though. The slashers are so overpowered they could have taken the whole survivor team on with weapons and still won. Early turns were a waste of time. Moving around the map is pointless since none of the locations even help.

And if the survivor team were metagaming as hard they'd have all got in the bus and left in turn 1 or all holed up in the mess hall together, teaching the children how to knife fight. The whole system is fucked and needs overhauling.

Jason never goes 1vs5, he'd get wrecked. He stalks groups, kills the stragglers and hides bodies. Unaware survivors should be easy to kill. Aware ones should be a challenge so stealth is actually necessary.

Not meme worthy shit where the slasher goes about murdering people with fucking corpse missiles.
>>
>>831276
>>831276
Are we Jason? No. But as I said, +1 to all survivor health. John and Luke arent the Cenotaph Slayer, they arent a supernatural entity with beef aganist children. They are humans, so even up the playing field. If you want this to be exceedingly simple then we can give everyone, survivors and killers, similar stats. The only difference is the oppurtunities and skills each gets. Survivors get passives, period. Killers get cunning bonuses, skills to pick off survivors from groups, the ability to use traps, choose when to engage, etc, however strictly according to and limited to their own stats and capabilities. We will not have a gorilla like Luke be a master puppeteer who can both build traps and command and ingeniousity that allows him to lure/pick off/manipulate survivors to their deaths. But for characters like Luke, yes, he SHOULD be able to hurl TEENAGERS across rooms. Dont be so butt hurt. Different killers, different capabilities. Similar to how different survivors command different passives.

But having everyone have similar stats also means making stats VERY similar, BORINGLY similar. And that wouldnt make our killers killer material, would it? However, I will consign that Luke should of had 6, not 8, health. And OP, you should start writing one or two sentences for surrounding objects in rooms. Anons here dont pay any regard to equipment so descriptions thereof should subtley prompt them into considering weapons and whatnot that will allow them to effectively combat the killers, whivh should definitely be a game changing aspect. Not everyone can be an effective hunter or murderer. So why should our killers be just like anyone? And no, my dear anon, our brothers would not be able to take the whole survivor cast.
>>
>>831289
Retard Wolverine could have killed the entire survivor team in a single fight just thanks to his passive.

Roll the numbers, playtest it and see what happens. Nobody could even damage him effectively because of the way combat is set up, they're all busy stunned or cowering or whatever. Whole thing needs overhauling.
>>
>>831098
>>831089
>>831106
>People like the Syrinx Brothers.

Well. that's a surprise. I didn't really think about games with returning slashers, but hey, the genre lives on crappy sequels.

I want to hit as many horror movie beats as possible to sort of show how the system can be used to play a variety of stories. Camp Red Water was very 1980's with the Tom Savini deaths and camp setting and Slashers that use dark humor. Cenotaph Slayer was sort of Hammer Horror with the haunted house setting and classic motifs. Dr. Dubose was basically Peter Cushing.

I want to do something for Christmas involving killer toys, and a sci-fi themed one like Alien or Jason X.

>>831167
>You see, the thing about the slasher team is that theyre SUPPOSED to be seemingly superior. A killer doesnt attempt to kill who he/she thinks he/she cannot. Understand? And heres the thing about survivors: they are flux factor. THEY change the outcome. Not the slashers. They are what the slashers must account for a possess considerable foresight to handle and keep reigned in a psychological cage.

This is the feel I want for the game mechanics right here. One Survivor gives you like -2 to a single stat, and when they fight back their weapon rating is like 1. But you throw in a group of five or so and its the passive is suddenly eight and the weapon rating is at the very least five if not more. You put that all on ferocity and the killer is rolling -8 Ferocity and -13 during Fight Back. The Slasher is going to be the one using the speed stat in this encounter.

Remember, Luke was half dead at one point. I think what really killed the Survivor team was not attacking with Mary and Johnny as much as they should have. A few more Fight Back rolls could have really fucked up the brothers.

Part of the blame (and shame!) is on me. I really do think Slashers are too strong in this version of the rules right now.

But heroic charges traditionally don't end well in Slasher films. They tend to end like:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YC5eL1kWA8

Or like:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtiaYVyF_18

Or like:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUqgDzUk80k

That's not to say they never work (and not to say they can't work in Slasher Quest). Everyone knows how Bust Rymes busted up Michael Myers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u26u0mMxqt0

>>831172
>+1 Health

Agreed. It's easy to get squished when 16-20 gives 2 damage.

>>831177
>Final girl tag

I don't know. There needs to be SOMETHING that'll prevent Survivors getting BTFO when they only have or three players. Either someone goes full Tommy Jarvis or an escape route opens up.
>>
>>831177
>WATCH action

This is a great idea. It shouldn't reveal the entire map to the Slashers (unless they have a special ability) but it should allow them to acquire information about their immediate and adjacent surroundings. It will also help give another purpose to Cunning. The smarter a SLASHER is the more they'll realize is around them to help them. A berskerker like Luke won't catch that there's a chainsaw in the corner, but his brother would see it.

>Convey slasher movements and action through the Survivor Narrative

I love this idea!

>>831276
>Taken on the entire team at once and still won

I don't know about that, but I do agree they have too much power.

>Early turns were a waste of time

I want to fix this, and I think a step in the right direction is to create goals where Survivors earn bonuses for doing character things. The jock and bimbo go skinny dipping. The pot head convinces the nerd to light up. The leader takes inventory of the pantry.

>He didn't like CORPSE KILL

Oh come on. That was awesome and you know it.

>>831289
>They aren't supernatural

They sort of are. They're like 2-4 Jason or Michael Myers where their durability and strength are a click or two above human but they aren't full on zombie bullet sponge yet.

>One or two sentences about surrounding objects

I should give little text adventure descriptions on what's handy in the immediate surroundings. That would be handy.

>>831294
>Retard wolverine could have killed the entire survivor team in a single fight.

Given that the passive would be at 12 and that unless they were all in a closet they would be getting weapons and would have two rerolls I really, really don't see Luke winning even if he heals by one for each kill.

"Where's Lynn?"
"It's getting dark..."
"Where's Tina?"
"Are there really wolves out there?"

The children attempt to adjust to sleeping together in the mess hall, but they know something is off. They know something is wrong. They know the teenagers know something they won't tell them.

"Lynn will be back shortly." Val does his best to assert control. "Now I need you all to calm down and go to sleep. Things will be better by morning."

Sammy helps change Kenny's wrappings back in the kitchen.

"You sure you don't feel feverish or anything man? I don't want you getting an infection."

"I don't think it happens that fast." Kenny winces as cold air hits against his open wound. "It won't matter. I get you out to the garage you take the car and get the police. When the ambulance gets here I'll finally let myself fall asleep and wake up in a nice hospital bed with fresh sheets and bad, bad memories for the rest of my life..."

"Was any of that supposed to be funny?"

"Hey. Ask me for a joke later when most of me is on the inside. I'll do better."

"You're coming with me by the way. Val can watch the kids. They'll be safe here. You need a doctor."

"Fuck that. I'm not leaving anyone alone against...those things."

"Kenny...I ever tell you that you're really stupid? And a real man?"

"I think after tonight we all get our man cards. Even the girls..." With a pained effort Kenny drags himself to a window sill and sits down. He looks out through the pitch black squares of glass and sees nothing. "...They're gone right? I mean everyone else. They're dead, aren't they?"

"Oh come on. If you start giving up hope Kenny the rest of us might as well. You know nothing short of a nuke can kill Lynn."

"...I really want to believe that Sammy. I really, really, really do..."

Val tears into the kitchen. "Guys! Guys! Come quick! Its one of the kids, she's hurt but she's alive!"

"What? From Mary's group?" Sammy asks.

"Yeah! Oh god, she's the only one that made it-everyone else...everyone else..."

Kenny shuts his eyes and wills away the pain. He opens them and intends to keep them open for as long as he can. He places one hand on his wounds and with a groan lifts himself off the windowsill. "That's not important right now Val. What is important is what we do now."

"We got some luck though! You see Tina was saved by this guy-"

Kenny freezes.

"This guy, this...well, what did you say your name was again?" Val calls to someone behind the wall.

"John Syrinx." He says stepping out from behind the wall.

A scream rises up in Kenny's throat and chokes him.

"John Syrinx is my name boy." He pats Val on the back. "Why the face son? If you think I look a fright..." He takes a crumpled Hillary Clinton mask from behind his back and places it on. "...Then you should see my brother."

>Final girl tag
Eh, i was thinking of:
>[Final Girl]
>+1 to all stats
>Each time a survivor dies and the owner of this tag acknowledges it, they gain +1 to a single stat
>If the owner of this tag were to die, select another survivor and transfer it to them, add a +1 as normal for the survivor death
>Extra ability: Final Stand: The user can succed at a single action when a slasher is present, be it wounding the slasher, holding them back, intercepting the attack, repairing a sabotaged machine, etc. With the caveat that they will die at the end of the turn no matter what. Using this ability actually lowers a single point instead of adding one, transfering works as normal
There should be a limit so the character never becomes stronger than the actual killers.

So, a "main character" mechanic that mirrors how the survivors become more savvy and strong the more people that dies. It also takes into consideration that the one that appears to be the main character might not be the "final girl" of the movie.
Compare Ridley at the start of Aliens with Ridley at the end, and how many other characters were good contenders for being the final one
How would do you think this system could work with an Alien theme? The alien starts at high ferocity and speed, but low cunning, gaining more cunning the more traps it circumvents. The survivors have to kill it before it gets too smart for being stopped

>And the spoilers a bit modified. No x yz crap
The x y z thing was an example because i felt too lazy at the time to come up with location and character names, i apologize.

>>831294
Dude, no. Luke would have been mauled. But anyway, extremefied, thats why I was in favor of having limiting those with a lack of a cunning stat (numerical-wise) from cunning bonuses. This is would allow, theoritically, for Luke and John together to butcher. Luke the destroyed, John the hunter, the crippler. But apart they could be defeated by focusing on their individual weakness. That would make the quest much more dynamic and fun. The survivors would have to come up with a way to split and trap one of the other or both of the brothers. Then focus on one and destroy him.
>>
>>831971
>destroyed
Meant "destroyer"

But either way, that just applies for this. If OP ever considers making a return of the Syrinx brothers, this could be employed.

>>831869
The wind carries the children's screams down the dirt paths, down to the abandoned cabin with its hole-marked body where it all began, down to the utility shed where blood blots out the notes to a children's game, and down to the lake where a girl lays dead under a shallow curtain of still blue water.

"She was so pretty Big Brother. The water carried away all the blood and dirt and I could see her face, so calm, almost like she were sleeping..."

"Nymphs are known for their beauty. Now, you did remember not to touch her as the water took her life, right Luke?"

"Yes Big Brother! Her hair was so soft looking, it drifted in the currents, I could have touched it with my finger tips...but I didn't. I was a good boy. I waited for the bubbles to stop then said a prayer to Pan."

"Good boy Luke. I'm sorry there's no one alive to be a pet for you. I promise we'll find someone on our next outing."

"Can they have white hair? This one had white hair."

"You mean under the water? She dyed her hair?"

"Yes. It was like cotton. Or snow."

"You must mean blonde Luke."

"No Big Brother, it was white!"

"A trick of the light boy. She had light blonde hair. Pretty young girls haven't had snow white hair since the time of Tiresias. Now my staff is filled with children's souls. Our work is done here. Perhaps we can travel to to the nearby town, see if they have anything good to eat."

"Can we play the hitchhiker game? I like playing the hitchhiker game!"

"I suppose so. Country roads like these should have vehicles large enough to stuff you in..."

.....

At the end, when you felt the water enter your nose and lungs, you tried to tell yourself that it was just like going to sleep. You just lied down and tried to imagine it was all a dream you could escape from in sleep. But the burning spasms of suffocation promised that you would die in pain.

Drowning is not a peaceful death. It is the death of Ophelia. It is a mad death, like burning but with weight and coldness.

But then you feel...you feel as if you were asleep. You feel weightless and nothing hurts. And then you hear a voice, warm, so warm in the cold darkness of the waters...

"I have saved you."

"...Mama?" You cry out, knowing that it is not your mother but having no other name to describe the powerful comforting force that sweeps over you, wrapping you in feelings of protection and strength.

And you realize you are speaking. Underwater.

You are no longer drowning.

"My child." The voice says. "I am a follower of Artemis. I am Syrinx."

You shrink at the mention of the name. You remember the cult-what Shelly said-what happened-

The camp! Mary! The children!

You thrash in the water and find you slip out of the chains easily. You find that you no longer feel the cold. The water no longer burns in your lungs.

"Be calm my child. I was a follower of the virgin Artemis in the timeless time before time. I was pursued by Pan, pursued until I could run no more."
>>
>>832022

"My sisters took pity upon me and transformed me, as I transform you now."

You see the sedimentary bottom of the lake and the full, bright moon above the waves. You see so clearly., You see even the wreckage of a wooden boat. You see so clearly now...

"No longer the hunted, you will be the huntress. The bow of Artemis, aimed at the worshipers of Pan aimed at those that take my name in vain."

You feel...you feel strong. The water has no weight, no weight at all...

"He tore my new body. He twisted my new body. He made instruments. He blew into them, and for all his frustrations only a haunting note of sadness sounded."

You spring out the water, and when you hit the shore you almost stumble, so unused to the power in your legs, but you keep your footing.

"You are now an echo of that note. You will make the followers of Pan weep, and gnash their teeth, and cry..."

You look into the clear waters and see a face full of blue scales slowly transforming back into your face but paler, and with eyes the color of blood.

"...And die. My daughter, you shall make them die. Ever last one of them..."

CAMP RED WATER END

Four choices for the next one:

1. Red Water II: Nymph-Lynn hunting Syrinx cult members The Crow style on a boat.

2. Carnival of Corpses: Dionysus demands blood. Demented carnies vs teenagers.

3. Cold, Distant Stars: The Syrinx cult in the year 3000 takes to the stars to find God. They find something hungry...that learns...

4. Time Labyrinth: The Syrinx Cult has found the lost Labyrinth of Minos and have decided to have some fun with the time and space warping structure. Athenian teenagers must work with modern teenagers to defeat a monster from the past.

I wonder how many Slashers should be clowns? I'm thinking about 3 or 4 Slashers for Carnival of Corpses, all considerably weaker than the Syrinx brothers or Cenotaph Slayer.

Cenotaph Slayer: Candyman/Freddy Krueger. You have to do X in order to defeat them. No amount of physical force can stop them.

Syrinx Brothers: Michael Myers, Early "human" Jason. Extremely strong and durable (doubly so for Luke) but can be stopped by enough physical force.

The Carnival: The Hewitts from Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Brutal and skilled but still human.

Duqe to James' constant fear, Slashers have a penalty to any move they do while trying to remain hidden or be stealthy around James.

Robert Susan (last name: Susan) the NEET protagonist from Zombie Apocalypse quest? Creepy Kooky for being an awkward NEET? Dunno why a NEET would go to the carnival though. Jsut thought he would be a unique character, being a NEET and all.

Also, OP, I dont think the killers should he so predictable like strongman, acrobat, etc. Maybe clowns sociopathic serial killer clowns with slihhtly different masks? Dunno. Also, why Dionysus? I get that hes the god of parties and wine but neither is really relevant. Am I missing something? Maybe Hecate would be more suitable: magic, night, necromancy (wink wink), ghosts and witchcraft? What do you think? This is honestly just a question, Im genuinely curious.. Im not trying to compel you to do anything.

You should start writing the mechanics on a pdf
>>
>>835165
In the interest of having a well-rounded team, we gotta have a martial artist, right? A nerd would probably help too.

That said, I must profess great curiosity as to what the abilities for the pot head and party bro are.

Pokem is all about Nerve damage. Nerve was basically useless last game, and the idea is that when a Survivor hits Nerve 0 they break and become helpless for a turn, frozen with fear, or they run in a blind terror to an adjacent space-the Slasher team chooses.

His first special is interesting. Do you let the ones he's marked stay with the group and damage the unmarked or do you abandon them?

Phineas Rice isn't much in a fight, and he's all about staying away from Survivors while triggering abilities. Time setting off traps with the location of other Slashers to get the most out of the Barker.

Lydia introduces a poison mechanic and is about hitting without being hit. She's very versatile. Her snake handler Special punishes Survivors that move into her space, and her Knife Thrower special punishes Survivors moving out of her space. She can also pretend to be normal and infiltrate groups.

Character wise Pokem is your typical creepy as fuck clown. He never speaks, only squeaks, and dresses in black and white.

Lydia is the practical one of the group, the Morticia to Phineas's enthusiastic and over the top Gomez Addams.

>>835339
Yeah, either that or a pastebin.

>>835350
Party Bro transfers damage to himself and heals Nerve damage. Pot head heals nerve damage, and accomplishes a goal just by taking three turns to do nothing but light up.
>>
>>835361
Im not going to lie, circusbros in the pic look badass (looks at their faces, also, respect thay they have enough balls to wear that in public). Not creepy at all.
>>
>>835328
Ah I see. I thought carnivals didnt exist back in Ancient Greecian times. Thank you for clearing that up, OP. I just did some research and I found that what youre referring to is the festival of Dionysia, celebrating the rebirth of nature. Very interesting, OP. Tieing in the Syrinx and Carnie (intentionally or otherwise) where the completion of the offering back in the camps mark the rebirth of nature.
>>
Interesting. I vote we bring on a party bro then. If nerve damage is gonna be a big thing, we'll need him to counter that. Maybe even two party bros. But we should really have a martial artist or a jock, I think. If we don't want two party bros, then perhaps a nerd or serious sam instead. That'd be my vote for the remaining slots.

Viktor Menloz
Martial Artist
A child prodigy in the Russian Martial Art of Krav Maga. Viktor grew up learning to fight and competing in various tournaments gaining small amounts of fame and the eye of a US Talent Scout. Brought to the USA to continue his training and hopefully represent the US in the Olympics for martial arts he uses his day off from training to hang out with the few friends he's made.

>Ability: "Я cлoмaю вac"
Viktor is well versed in the art of Krav Maga which focuses on doing as much damage as fast as possible. Viktor has a chance of seriously wounding an opponent or even breaking an enemies limb in combat but when he attempts this he becomes so blinded by adrenaline and anger he is unable to break off the encounter and must be pulled away by another survivor or the enemy must flee for the encounter to end.
>>
>>835426
Sounds a little too overpowered.
>How about +2 to combat rolls
>Can't break off combat unless he incurs -2 nerve damage
>>
>>835432
I was thinking no damage bonus but have our own person who can give stat inflictions. He manages to break the knife throwers arm and she loses the ability to throw knives but he can't stop a fight if he tries to break something and fails.
So it's a gambler character really. High risk high reward.
>>
>>835443
So, a chance to lower an enemy stat further?
Or to disable temporarily a skill?
>>
>>835446
Disable a skill sounds infinitely more useful and balancing it with failing the roll meaning he could get easily BTFO I say it's balanced.
>>
>>835453
My main problem with unreliability as a method of balance is that most of the time you get something not worth using, either because it sucks or because it breaks the game.
And we don't get to change him mid game, we are stuck with him if he becomes a liability.

It is like using rarity as a method of balance, sure you might not have it NOW, but once you get it the game turns to cheese, grated cheese.

>Disables a skill on a critical roll (16+)
>Will always initiate combat with a slasher if he spots them
>Can't disengage combat without incurring a penalty (-2 nerve) (Because he lowers his own morale)

Should be balanced enough and also risky, he is both useful enough to send him on the first line, yet flawed enough for us to consider if it is the best choice
>>
I like that. The cocky fighter always ready to throw down and damn good at it.

I dig it! It makes him a nice "go big or go home" character.

Speaking of big guys...

The Great Monstro, The Strongman:

Health: 6
Ferocity: 4
Cunning:-2
Speed: 4

Composure Checked: Never
Damage Escape: Never
Stunned: Never

Specials:

Monstro break your little toy!: When Monstro deals damage to a Survivor destroy whatever weapon that survivor has equipped

Cunning Effects:

Smash smash smash...THEN smash...: Deal 1 extra damage

Monstro is a big dumb brick. His Cunning Effect is simple, and has a low chance of triggering with -2 Cunning. Boobytraps are his Achilles heel, as Slashers must make a Cunning roll to avoid them.

Monstro comes from the freakshow. Born from a dead mother with a misshapen head and skin covered in scale like growths he harbors a great hatred for outsiders. The rest of the cult sees his freakishness as a blessing (Dionysus had a unique birth himself, to say the least)

Engaging Monstro head to head is not advised. His high health, inability to be stunned, and never having to perform a damage escape means he is incredibly deadly in a fight.

Speaking of the Freakshow, we also have Monstro's best friend:
Freddy the Freak, The Geek

Health: 6
Ferocity: 2
Cunning:2
Speed: 3

Composure Checked: 3
Damage Escape: Never
Stunned: Never

Specials:

Yes! Hit me again! Harder! Make me bleed!: Freddy the Freak always takes damage from Fight Back rolls. If he scores a success or great success on a Fight Back roll he does not deal damage and instead takes one damage.
Freddy has +1 Ferocity for each damage he takes.

I stick stuff like that in me for FUN!: Whenever Freddy takes more than 1 damage he instead takes 1 damage.

Also the Firebreather act: Freddy may make attacks against all Survivors in his space.

Cunning Effects:

None

The circus' geek and blockhead. He believes int he ecstatic qualities of pain. Every scar brings him closer to Dionysus.

He's interesting. Anyone that fights back against him is going to hurt him, but doing so increases his Ferocity, potentially giving him +7. When combined with his firebreathing act this makes him incredibly dangerous. If you attack Freddy make sure you brought enough Survivors to finish him off before he counter attacks.

We need one more Slasher. Any ideas? I was thinking about something like a giant Fiji mermaid-a gaff. Powerful but slow as fuck. Maybe its made out of dad Nymph to tie Carnival of Corpses deeper into the lore?

>A grotesque giant mermaid gaff

>>
Maybe a magician.
He has a high speed and can use it to sleight if hand weapons away from survivors and leave them holding bouquets of flowers or something.
>>
>>836444
I think you should have twins clowns (slightly varying masks) and divide Lydia into two slashers: an acrobat and a snakecharmer. You can make it so the snakecharmer is the actual "ring leader"(and whats interesting is that Dionysus' animal is the serpent among others) and summons actual large, maneating snakes. Or, rather, serpents. This one will supposedly be the hardest for our survivors to trump. The circus freaks themselves see the snakcharmwr as some godsend by Dionysus, blessed by him to control one of his sacred animals: serpents.
>>
>>836858
The snakcharmer herself will not be a threat, aside for a high cunning stat, but her serpents will. They can be either high in ferocity or speed, or a balancd of either, whichever you think is best, OP. The snakes themselves dont neccesarily need tl be in the same room as the snakecharmer, but she should be easy to kill whereas her snakes are the almost unbeatable "obstacles" to our survivors. Or maybe she just summons a shitload of snaller snakes. Whateve you want, OP. Just brainstorming.
>>
>>836858
>>836872
A token producing snake charmer? Very interesting. It could help me experiment with "swarm threat" ideas I've been playing with in my head, stuff to simulate Gremlins, Critters, Ghoulies, Small Soldiers, etc.

Semele The Snake Charmer

Health: 3
Ferocity: 0
Cunning: 4
Speed: 0

Composure Checked: Never
Damage Escape: 2 Damage
Stunned: Any damage

Specials:

Snake Summoning: Semele can summon snakes in a variety of ways for a variety of effects.

A: The Snake Swarm: Semele summons a snake swarm token in her space or an adjacent space. This token is treated like a Slasher with 1 Health and 0 Ferocity and 0 Speed that always fails cunning. It causes poison (see Lydia) when it successfully damages a Survivor. Semele can only control 3 swarms at a time.

B: The Snake Pit: Semele summons a disgusting number of vipers to attack survivors. Treat the Snake Pit as a trap placed on either Smele's space or an adjacent space. After the Survivors spend a turn on this space they proceed to take 1 damage and are poisoned for each turn spent in the space. The snake pit can only be placed once per game and cannot be moved.

Semele produces little slasher helpers or locks down an entire e space on the map. While Rice and Lydia appear to run the carnival she's the true authority as high priestess to the Dionysian mysteries.
>>
>>837034
So our Slashers are:

Pokem the Clown
Freddy the Freak, the Geek
Semele the Snake Charmer
The Great Monstro, the Strongman
The Flying Lydia, the Acrobat
Phinease Rice, the Barker

These freaks look good?

Nerds auto-fail Slasher cunning rolls in their space at the cost of being very fragile. They can also create traps like the Survivalist and Greasemonkey.

Sara Tryton
Nerd
Near inseperable from her girlfriend, Roxanne, Sara is an honor roll student and president of the engineering and chess club. She spends most time not with Roxanne instead working on projects in her garage.

Ability:
>"I've drawn up blueprints for something like this."
Mary can construct traps and also upgrade weaponry by adding 1 damage or removing a stat penalty by 1 (Like taking away the -1 speed on a weapon) this takes 3 turns during which she is completely vulnerable.

Roxanne 'Roxxie' Steinway
Party Bro(ette)
The girlfriend of Sara and known party hound, Roxxie spends most of her nights not with Sara out party hopping and has gotten a reputation as a fiercely loyal friend and true party animal.

Ability: "That's my girl."
While Roxanne can absorb damage anyone else takes as well. Roxanne's connection with Sara goes beyond a simple relationship, Roxanne can absorb any damage done to Sara and reduce it to 1. Because the power of love, is a mysterious thing.
>>
>>837475
>Bringing lovers into a slasher movie
You, you sure you wanna do that, bruh?
>>
>>837478
Always gotta have that small romance. Just to have someone to root for. Also so your heart can be turned to confetti when they have to watch each other die.
>>
>>837481
The three turns wait for upgrading on Sara is way too steep. A single turn of inaction should be enough, considering nerd's main ability is disabling cunning skills. Otherwise, this ability won't be of much use.

Roxxane looks way too overpowered.
Maybe if you add a "She will prioritize taking damage from Sara over any other survivor" and "If they are apart, Roxanne gets a -1 debuff".
Sara strikes me as a more rational person that would be able to deal with separation anxiety in a situation like this, Roxxie, not so much.

Maybe they are too optimized to work with eachother, so a permanent debuff if one of the two dies would be in order, and that begs the question if making them lovers is worth it at all
>>
>>837488
The permanent debuff works. Make it one full turn for Sara to do her work. Add a penalty to alk her rolls if Roxanne Dies. Same for Roxanne. Roxxie prioritizing Sara works also, multiple people take damage Roxxie will always save Sara even if it means someome else will die.
>>
>>837489
I imagine the mechanic working like this

>[Lovers]: This person is in a relationship with X and ignores a single Cunning effect once per turn when in presence of their lover.
>If said lover where to die add a permanent -2 nerve debuff
>If the lover is hurt or struck add a temporary -1 nerve instead
>>
>>837490
Actually Yeah I can dig that.
Should we think of a new ability for Roxxie or just leave it at taking others damage?
>>
>>837491
Nah, she is a standard Party Bro, unless you want to.
Now she CAN ignore Sara if she gets hurt, but the cost of doing so might be too large.
>>
>>831912
>Final girl
Is this something you pick at character creation? Or something that is given to someone when there are only a set number of survivors left?

>Classes

At first I thought of slashers having classes, but after the fun of creating the carnies I don't think they should. Slashers should be as unique as possible. The pdf could have a little section of premade slashers but slashers should ideally be assembled from a collection of Specials and Cunning Effects. They're the real stars of the show after all.

Survivors should be more uniform, because they're the ones that modify gameplay elements. They're the variables, and if they're good at doing one thing they shouldn't be good at doing another. Team work and balancing abilities is how they win.

That being said I like the idea of giving them relationship bonus like what Roxxie has with Sara. Maybe the Malone brothers could have something similar?
>>
>>838663

>HANDY CLASSES

Nerd: Hard support class. Creates traps, auto-fails Cunning rolls, and upgrades weapons. Their stats are absolutely pathetic and are the least capable class on their own.

Greasemonkey: A little more fit than the Nerd at the cost of losing the auto-fail ability. He can convert and repair mechanical objects into jury rigged traps with a d10 determining effectiveness and duration. Jury rigging creates powerful devices, but devices that quickly wears down. The greasemonky's affinity to cars is also important. In many games cars provide a way to evacuate Survivors and score points, and no one can repair a car as fast as the Greasemonkey.

Survivalist: Fitter than the greasemonkey or nerd, but his tech abilities are limited to trap making-which he excels at. His traps force a Slasher to roll cunning twice and auto succeeds on a Slasher with negative cunning. He is also the fighter of the Handy Classes. He can Fight Back at +1 without acquiring a weapon using his trusty army knife which he always carries.
>>
>>838641
>Dead Fuck class needs a buff sense
They are so obnoxious that they make every survivor around them resist a single point of nerve damage. They are harder to shake up due to expossure to cringe

or

They can sense when a female (or male if they go for that) is in danger on an adyacent location and make it there within the same round, even if they are under attack themselves. Getting away this way does not count as "escaping" for the purposses of other abilities.

>>838663
Oh, for sure. i am just trying to condense survivor skills into mechanics that can be applied to any character for ease of use.
Maybe coming up with a list of definite abilities and perks should be in order.
Do you have a Discord? I think this game design should be better on a separate channel.

As an example, this is the "generic" version of the snake pit ability

Grand Trap: The slasher can summon a trap in a single location they currently are or an adjacent one. For every turn the survivors spend in this place they recieve a point of damage and recieve a lingering damage effect. This trap can only be used once per game and can't be moved once deployed.

This can be refluffed as beinga snakepit, and the lingering damage poison, or electrical damage, or fire damage, frostbite, poison gas, you get the idea. Setting some base rules that can be modified for flavor
>>
>>838717
>List of definite abilities and perks

Totally. A pastebin is in the works (and a pdf when I figure out how to do that).

>Discord

Check the twitter. I should post one there before too long.

I'm just using what's left of the thread's life to throw out ideas.
>>
>>838663
>brothers could have something similar?

[Beloved Sibling]: This character is a beloved sibling of X. They auto succeed any action they are doing together.

[Annoying Sibling]: This character and Z are siblings, and they could get along better. As long as they are apart they gain +1 to nerve, otherwise their constant bickering gives them -1 to nerve

[For both types of siblinghood]: If one of the siblings were to die, you add at least +1 to (Combat stat) for the remaining sibling. For each extra point you add also substract a point of Nerve. They also engage the slasher responsible for the killing of their sibling if they can, can't run away from them without incurring a temporary -1 nerve penalty

If there are two siblings, they are both of the same type (Two beloved or two annoying)

>>838759
>when I figure out how to do that
Download a pdf printer, write the stuff in Word, select the virtual pdf printer. Done
>>
Fighters: They don't go down without a fight.

Every fighter begins the game with the ability to Fight Back, they don't have to acquire a weapon-although they can acquire stronger weapons.

Survivalist: Also apart of the Handy classes. His traps punish low cunning Slashers that enter and exit his space. The Survivalist is the survivor with the most Health.

Jock: This Football All-Star is all about making his team and himself last as long as possible. His Quarter Back Block ability is a weaker version of the Party Bro's signature damage sponge ability that ends when he takes damage in an encounter. His Tackle ability is a high risk maneuver that immobilizes and stuns a Slasher at the cost of making himself vulnerable to a counter-strike. The Jock is the Survivor with the most speed.

The Martial Artist: He is all about fighting back. He's the best character for hurting Slashers and making them die. He can even disable Special abilities and Cunning Effects by breaking bones and knocking away weapons.
>>
>>838827
Wasn't there a Bimbo class? What was her power?
Maybe there could be synergies between, otherwise unrelated, classes. Both positives and negatives

Like Bimbo + Jock/Party Bro = Bonus

or Nerd + Bimbo/Jock = Malus
>>
>>838827

>Detection

Did you hear that? These guy sure did. All Detection classes are able to "scout" adjacent spaces. They know if a Slasher is in them or not. They are also able to detect all traps and items in their spaces-although they are still subject to traps that trigger upon entering a space like any other class.

Worry Wart: Although their constant fear and anxiety stresses out those nearby (to the point of even causing Nerve damage) their paranoia is rewarded by making it so that Slashers cannot stalk their spaces. Worry Warts have the lowest Nerve rating.

Creepy Kooky: Unlike the Worry Wart these fans of the macabre thrive on the chaos around them. They don't cause Nerve damage to their allies and they themselves are completely immune to nerve damage. They can even heal nerve damage from others as a member of the Rally classes. But they don't have the Worry Wart's ability to prevent stalking.

Dead Fuck: He has the ability to transfer damage from the opposite sex to himself, and he knows the locations of opposite sex Survivors on the board

>>838961
There was also a horror movie nerd and a trickster class. I'm not sure where to fit them in yet. I'm open to ideas though.
>>
>>839023
>Rally

These classes help groups stand together and stand united against the Slashers. All members of the Rally classes can spend a turn to improve moral and heal Nerve damage.

Party Bro: A good natured goof who just wants to have a good time. He can transfer damage to himself, even to the point of sacrificing his life.

Creepy Kooky: Nothing fazes this guy, and other Survivors draw strength from this. He is also a member of the Detection classes.

Serious Sam: The natural charismatic leader. His powerful leadership ability allows rerolls equal to the number of Survivors in his group-but before. If he dies the Slashers receive rerolls equal to the number in his group, representing crippling demoralization among the survivors.

So this leaves Trickster, Bimbo, and Horror Movie Nerd to either form their own set of classes or be fitted into the other sets.

>horror movie nerd and a trickster class
I don't remmeber what these could do either.
Wildcard, maybe?

Bimbo could heal Nerve damage from people? Can buff temporarily an ally if they fancy them? Also, a "Taunt" mechanic, since slashers love to go for these girls first.

Horror movie nerd. The more a tactic is used against them, the less useful it becomes? To the point they might become inmune?

Tricksters can rig minor traps with the doodads they carry around. Some marbles or improvised calptrops make the slashers lose an action at little to no cost to them, but these "traps" can't damage Slashers. Something of a debuffer, maybe? Like making a joke about a slasher, and then said killer loses some of his impact when encountering people who previously laughed at them.

One to distract and "crowd control" the slashers, other to become more powerful the more he survives, and another to make their job harder

>Horror Movie Nerd

Should be a subclass of the nerd class. Replace one nerd skill, perhaps no trap bonus. MAYBE weapon crafting. But ultimately, they can either...
a. gain bonus to rolls aganist slashers to which they can reference a movie (maybe you can base this ability to reference movies on the players themselves, who will be tasked with naming said movies)

b. actually relieve a nerve point when suceeding on a roll aganist slashers. Can also attempt to make a roll to reassure fellow survivors?

>Trickster

That one charming and endearing deviant who pulls off magic tricks or is just straight up witty. A trickster can...

a. Make rolls (presumably like cunning) aganist slasher speed and ferocity rolls to trump them. Like a matador taunts a charging bull with his red cape. Or a clever kid who jukes his pursuing friend by subtely diving behind a car and circling around. Each nerve penalty (any reduction to max) respectively corresponds to reductions to these "trick" rolls. [For example, of the trickster has thus far taken -2 nerve damage without relieving any, he/she takes -2 to any roll he or she performs aganist slasher ferocity or speed rolls.] Moreover, the trickster can only make "trick" rolls the number of nerve points he/she has (OR) once per encounter aganist a slasher. Up to you to decide which, OP.

>Bimbo

Just...what? Seriously?

a. I guess she can relieve one point of nerve damage to ALL male survivors as an action. However, also may incur penalties to rolls made by male survivors that require concentration. Up to OP's discretion on the technicalities of this all. Im just still "wtf"-ing.

b. Cant run for shit. Penalty to run rolls.
_____

Also, I think you should more cleanly divide the classes.

>Offensive, Defensive, Utility, Social

Or to your nomeclature, which may be more accurate:

>Fighter, Sponge, Handy, Social (or socks for short)

Hopefully, you can come up with a more flavorful name than "social" or generally better name than "socks".

Also, OP, this wont be a game right? Because if you arent testing for one then be careful. This is getting a little too complicated. And as much as I love complicated, others do not share my sentiments. Everyone beyond this discussion of mechanics thus far may be overwhelmed.
