You are Paxious Dromus, a Zabrak and, soon, an initiate at the Jedi Temple on Tython. After passing the first two tests on your way to being fully accepted by the order, only one more stands in your way.

You wake up in the dormitory to find the all of your peers are still asleep. The sun has just started to leak through the windows as you sit up. It seems you have some time to kill before your final test begins.

What will you do?

> Eat breakfast
> Meditate
> Wander around the temple a bit. See who else is up.
> Go back to sleep

Long time no see guys! Sorry, my college blocks 4chan whenever there are board meetings or college visits. I could post from my phone but that's a real bitch to do.

Anyway, I'm back! From now on I'm going to try to run at least once a week.

You shake the bits of sleep still left in your eyes and run your fingers along your horned head before leaping out of bed as quietly as you can. You make your way out of the dorms and into the cafeteria where you see things have only just opened. You’d like to meditate, but first, you’re going to get some food in you.

The cafeteria is empty, save for an old woman you do not recognize and another Initiate, a boy with brown hair in deep thought.

What will you do?

You pick up your breakfast, some scrambled Vakiir eggs and Panna cakes, and sit yourself by the old woman. As you sit, you notice she is reading a book with only a single cup of tea in front of her. She looks up and gives you a small smile before returning to reading.

You begin to dig into your food when she says, “Looking for advice for your test today, I presume?” You look up at her to find that she still seems to be focused completely on her book as she talks to you.

What do you do?

“I don’t even know what the next test is,” you admit after swallowing the last of your eggs. “I’m more interested in getting some breakfast and meeting new people. I’m Paxious, it’s nice to meet you, Jedi…”

She puts her book down and shakes your hand, giving you a warm smile, “Most people just call me the Librarian, but since you asked, I am Master Beril, Librarian and Historian of the Jedi Archives on Tython.”

“Oh, you must know about meditation then!” you say to her.

She chuckles to herself quietly, “Indeed, I might know just a bit.”

“I'd never done it before yesterday and would like some advice there.”

“Well, if you’re the same Paxious I heard was using the Masters’ meditation chambers, it would seem you are quite the natural,” she says. “I’ll give you the advice I give all beginners. Meditation is mindfulness of the world, yourself, and the Force. In order to see the world around you, you must first be aware of yourself, look inward. From there, you become aware of the world, and from there, you become aware of the Force binding yourself to that world. The more you look within, the more you will look out, and become mindful of the Force.”

“It seems you’ve hit a stroke of luck, Paxious. You just happened to approach the person overseeing your next test,” she chuckles, returning to her book. “If it makes you feel better for your ignorance of it, it isn’t really the kind of test you can fail. And don’t bother asking me for details. I’ve long since embraced the stereotype of the Cryptic Jedi Master.”

"Well I would love to hear the sort hints a dedicated cryptic can give,” you tell her.

She gives you a bigger smile, showing her teeth to you for the first time.

“I think this is the first time a student has asked that I indulge myself in riddle-making,” she says, putting a marker in her book as she thinks of what to say, “Hmm. Your answers cannot be searched, only found. For this next test, you cannot study or practice for it, you can only live. They say that experience is the best teacher, but for your next test, it is your only teacher. Is that sufficiently cryptic for you, Paxious?”

“I think so, Master Beril. Thank you for the advice. I think I’ll go try some of it out.”

With that, you exit the cafeteria to find a place to meditate.

Where will you meditate?

You decide to look for proper meditation rooms for Padawans and Initiates. After nearly a half hour of wandering through winding hallway after hallway, you finally happen upon a plain room with the word meditation written above it. You enter to find a room that looks to be made of rock. It feels much cooler than the rest of the temple. You sit in the center of the room as you center yourself.

>Critical success

Your eyes nearly close, staying ever so slightly open as you begin to tune out the outside world. The room makes it a bit easier. Soon, the coolness of the room fades away to the warmth of the Force. You follow Master Beril’s advice and start by looking inwardly. You think of your home, the endless planet of farmlands. You remember laying down in the fields of grain and staring at the sky. A similar feeling of peace overcomes you as you begin to hear and see all around you. Most of the temple is just waking up. You’re able to see farther now. You see the ruins just outside the Temple.

A red lightsaber opens, in the hands of a shadowy figure. At first, you’re alarmed and you nearly lose the image. You calm down again though and see other lightsabers open. They aren’t normal lightsabers, though. They’re hooked to batteries attached to the backs of the users. You notice at the Temple, a crowd wielding blue and green lightsabers, similarly archaic looking, gathers. They clash and you watch the battle take place, as both groups savagely attack one another. Finally, it seems the group at the temple is victorious. The few survivors from the other side flee, a few leaving in nearby ships.

You open your eyes, feeling more at peace, but confused about the vision you had.

>Cont.
>>
>>816188
You hear a voice, distant sounding, over some of the loudspeakers in the Temple.

“All Initiates please report to the library for your final test.”
It looks like you don’t have time to pontificate on your vision at the moment.

You make your way to the Library and find a small crowd has already gathered. All the masters are there too, but Master Beril stands in the center of them, a crowd of students gathered around. You join the crowd just as she begins to speak.

“You’ll all receive datapads with the questions on them. I ask only that you answer honestly. If one of you manages to answer honestly and find a wrong answer, I will eat my robes for dinner,” she says, to the crowd who responds with giggles.

You receive your datapad and find a place to sit at one of the many tables in the library. There are three questions on it.

The first question is: What is a Jedi?

How will you answer?

You write down that a Jedi is a conduit of the Force, allowing its will to flow through them and be the tool by which it binds the galaxy together. Satisfied with your answer, you move on to the next question.

It seems as if your answer was predicted.

The second question is: What is the Force?

> It’s something that links all life

> It’s like a swoop engine…

The Force binds everything living and dying in one unbroken web, there to be seen as a canvas for those willing to look for it. Some colors vibrant and others dark, but all at the interpretation of the viewer. A chaotic thing, but a manageable one, given the right tools.

You write down that it’s like a swoop engine that runs through the whole galaxy, all things affecting one another, and all life linked through it. You describe the way the machine has different parts that require different knowledge and how all of it is integral to the engine working as a whole. You start to go into the sound of the engine is like a song that all things sing a part of in harmony. You start to write about the light and the dark and how you picture it like a painting with light and dark shades.

You look at the third question. It is simply, “What are you?”

You simply write down Paxious. You think for a moment and decide to add on to it a bit, making your answer, ‘Paxious, student of the Force.’

You get up and hand the datapad to Master Beril who gives you a smile as she takes it.

“So, that’s it?” says a boy behind you as he hands his datapad in as well.

“I’m afraid so,” replies Master Beril dryly.

“Man, this was a breeze compared to the other two tests!” he exclaims.

“Ah,” replies Master Beril with what you assume is her equivalent of a shit eating grin. “But the tree that does not bend in the breeze often cracks in the gale.”

The boy frowns and his face seems to go into a panic, “Oh no. Can I have that datapad back? I wanna change my answers.”

Master Beril laughs, “Did you answer with the truth?”

“Well, yeah,” he replies.

“Changing the truth is not something that can be done in a moment, young one.”

“Yeah it can. Datapads have a delete button to do just that!”

Master Beril laughs even more but reassures the student, “You did just fine, young one. Your answers are acceptable.”

The boy begins to walk away, seeming unsure.

You run to catch up with the boy as he walks away, “Hey, wait up!”

He turns around saying, “Paxious, right? I’m Jac. I saw you on the first two tests. You probably aced this too right?”

He seems rather distressed.

“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t be jealous, it’s just that I feel like I just don’t get it. I tried to lift the rock and I barely got it off the ground. I couldn’t move it an inch either direction. I know all the names of all the main lightsaber forms by heart, but I still trip over my own feet facing off against Master Retsma and he called the match before I even got a hit in on him. Then with this, what does she even mean?! I’m going to be in the beginner class for everything and I don’t even know if I can handle those.”

Wow, this kid seems to be quite the oversharer.

“Hey, we all start somewhere. You don’t need to panic. Having practical knowledge doesn’t mean you’ll know how to apply it right away. I’ve been getting by on guesswork, instinct, and blind luck. You’d kick my ass at any written exam about knowledge. "think of it like painting. Say you want to paint the sky at mid day, then you'd need different blues and whites. Jac thinks on this for a bit, “I guess I am overreacting. If I’m not getting it now, I try more in the future.”

Thinking quick, you say, “No, don’t just try. Do it.”

“Yeah!” he says, seemingly enthused by that shit you pulled out of your ass.

Jac walks away looking determined and you decide to meditate for a bit before you head to lunch.

You don’t have any more visions of the ancient past or glimpses into other people’s minds as you meditate, but you do feel much more at peace once you’re done. Feeling satisfied, you decide to make your way to the cafeteria.

You walk into the cafeteria to find Ara pinning Jorraan to the floor, twisting his arm as if to break it. A crowd of Initiates surrounds them, chanting.

“Say you’re sorry now!” Ara says as she twists his wrist more.

Jorraan looks extremely comedic with his giant form being held down by the rather petite Ara.

“I’m sorryyyyyy!” he says, his voice still so much higher than someone that big should be.

As you stare at this spectacle, Nazz walks up to you, something between an alarmed and entertained look painting her face along with her tattoos. “So,” she says, “Maybe we should eat outside.”

Oh also, I'm putting together a character sheet and as such am making a stat system based on the KOTOR system but super simplified and changed to work for the 3D10's that I've grown fond of.

I'll test it next time I run and if it goes well, I'll keep it and if it makes shit too easy or too hard, I'll tweak it.
