Zaraki Kenpachi stands motionless, the still air of a chilly autumn night pressing in all around him. But something about that chill's not right. It sets the hairs on his arms all on end, and sends an electric tingle down his spine. He shifts his balance, almost as if waiting impatiently for something to happen: and in that same moment it does.

A trio of knives sink into his back, one narrowly missing his spine and the other two embedding themselves in his shoulder blade like darts sticking into a board. The man, almost gaunt in his appearance despite his muscular build, ignores the wounds like they're nothing more than bug bites. Instead he raises his jagged sword and parries the strike that comes from his left, blade meeting with a stout, broad sword and a curved handguard.

“That's a damn dirty trick, sneakin' around like that!” the reigai-Kenpachi objects, forcing his assailant back with a grunt of exertion. “And you wonder why nobody likes you Onmitsu types? I'll give you a hint, it's shit like this.”

“If you're too thick to get it,” Yoruichi sighs, spinning one of her swords around its hilt as she stretches out one shoulder, “then don't bother talking trash to me.”

Truthfully, she had hoped Zaraki's reflexes were exactly that: an automatic reflex rather than a conscious thought. If he'd blocked the knives she could've used shunpō to close in and cut his throat right from the start, preventing him from releasing his reiatsu and avoiding the need for it herself. Had it worked out that way the reigai might not realize she was there, and more of them might fall into her trap. But since it didn't, and he was able to move his arm the few inches required to counter her maneuver, it seems likely that she'll need to go all out.

A distant burst of reiatsu alerts her to the progress of another battle.

“Seems Riku had to let loose,” she muses. “Byakuya must be giving her some trouble.”

“I'd rather be fightin' over there,” Zaraki frowns, shouldering his zanpakuto. “Get some of that action.”

With a blinding burst of speed Yoruichi closes the distance between her and her opponent, engaging his blade with one of her swords and slashing at his stomach with the other. After leaving a shallow cut across his bicep and an angry, purplish bruise under his ribs, she finally takes up a stance of her own.

“What, am I not interesting enough for you?”

Zaraki turns to face her, blade held low in his right hand. “You're not my type.”

Smirking, Yoruichi builds up a mass of reiatsu, exploding it outward then pulling it back through her veins in a powerful current. “Shunkō!”

“Sorry, but you're not gonna get the chance to fight Riku,” she snarls as reiatsu arcs wildly, like a thunderstorm dancing across her skin. “Because you're gonna die, right here.”

Atop a high breezy walkway in the Seireitei a figure slinks through the shadows, hooded and cloaked in a dark fabric. He reaches the end of the path, which dumps him into a courtyard atop a wide stone foundation lifted well above the buildings spread across the surrounding plains. A viewpoint, from which an officer or group of shinigami could see the Seireitei from above,

With a warning scream, a red arc of energy slices through the stone floor of the platform and narrowly misses cleaving the cloaked man's arm off as he sidesteps.

“Missed me!” the man taunts his assailant as they cross blades. “I'd have thought my aim would've been better than that.”

“My bad,” his mirror image apologizes as their swords clash a second time, then push off one another to gain some distance in a clattering of wooden clogs. “I underestimated my own speed!”

“Bakudō 63: Sajō Sabaku!”
“Bakudō 63: Sajō Sabaku!”

Both Kisukes extend their left arms and send a trio of golden kidō chains surging forward to meet between them, shattering like glowing glass as they collide and negate one another. As the one in the coat shades his eyes against the falling shards of energy his attacker steps behind him, raising his straight sword and bringing it down across his opponent's back.

The cloaked Kisuke proceeds to pop like a balloon, and the one without the cloak becomes the victim of an immediate counterattack as the cloaked Kisuke places his left hand against the spine of Benihime's blade.

“Ōkasen!”

The uncloaked Kisuke takes the arc of energy in the neck, and he too pops like a balloon.

“As expected, I'm brilliant!” the Kisuke in the cloak commends his counterpart as he reappears with his left arm outstretched.

“Hadō 88: Hiryū Gekizoku Shinten Raihō!”

The cloaked Kisuke doesn't move out of the way. “Bakudō 81: Dankū!”

In the resulting explosion the cloaked man makes his move, attacking from directly behind with a powerful straight thrust of his zanpakuto. But the man simply raises his hand and takes the point straight in his palm, where it embeds itself before coming to a stop.

The Kisuke in the cloak's eyes widen as his own zanpakuto is illuminated with reiatsu that is undeniably his own... but at the same time isn't his, and won't respond to his will.

“Ōkasen!”

You are Kusajishi Riku, Captain of the Seireitei Court Guard's Ninth Division, and you've just killed two reigai who were sent to assassinate you. The reigai of Lieutenant Abarai didn't stand much of a chance, but Kuchiki Byakuya's copy gave you a much harder time. In his self-destructive drive to complete his mission of killing you he ended up sacrificing his own arm and eventually his life, leaving you with a savagely lacerated left shoulder despite the fact that you escaped more serious harm.

That arm isn't especially useful when it's been that badly wounded, so you set about the task of healing it.

“That Senbonzakura's a nasty piece of work,” Rosa comments as you feel her reiatsu flowing through the same blood that oozes from the wounds. “There's so many individual cuts laid on top of each other it's more like he took a belt sander to you.”

“Can you heal it?”

There's a mental sigh. “Yeah, but it'll take time and energy and I'm sure there's a lotta shit you wanna do. So I'm gonna do a superficial fix for now... if you can find a medic to do the rest that'd be best.”

“Got it.”

You can feel two other fights as you sheath your blade for now: Yoruichi is fighting against Kenpachi, and they're both putting out a lot of reiatsu. But you can't help but frown as you realize she's failed to take him out stealthily, which means the dumb bastard's got much better senses than you anticipated. Then there's Kisuke, who seems to be fighting himself. You're not actually one hundred percent sure which one is which, or which one is even doing better at the moment... which is kind of terrifying.

Extending your arm, you contact Rangiku, Apacci, Tia, and Starrk with Tenteikura. “I've taken out Byakuya's reigai. Put the Division on full alert, and keep an eye on things here... these two were sent to kill me in particular, so I wouldn't put it past their companions to try some real underhanded shit.”

“Where do you plan to go from here?” Rangiku replies. “Help with one of the other fights or go on the offense?”

“I'm going underground,” you declare, checking your sash and pockets to make sure that some very important items are with you: your waterproof map, the suppressed carbine Kisuke made for you and its ammunition, and a compass. That's about all you figure you need. “I'm gonna press any advantage we've got left.”

“And what do we do about Captain Urahara and Yoruichi?” Rangiku asks.

You shrug, despite knowing nobody can see you do it. “They can handle themselves, they're grown-ass adults.”

Looking at the map you spot the closest entrance to the underground and determine to go down through there, and given Kisuke and Hanatarō's warnings of fragile passages you shoulder your carbine. It's not totally clear how well this will work, but you'll give it a shot.

“Tenkotsuki? Shed some light on this,” you request as you gaze into the mouth of the tunnel, which slants downward into the earth at a fairly shallow angle. The ceiling isn't high enough to stand, but you can move along at a fair pace hunched over.

Tenkotsuki's reply is immediate as she manifests a small, warm light behind your head. “Easily, my dear. I will adjust its intensity and warmth to provide you the best clarity.”

As you progress down the slope the passage eventually reaches a larger channel, with a cold, slow-flowing watercourse in the center and a narrow walkway on either side. Looking down you can't tell how deep the water actually is as Tenkotsuki's light glitters off the surface. Thankfully, based on the smell, this seems to be a channel for fresh water rather than sewage... small blessing there.

Looking at the map confirms your initial suspicion that this passage leads back to the surface upstream, while downstream leads further under the Seireitei. So you set off with your carbine low but at the ready, glancing about yourself every so often just to make sure nothing has managed to sneak up on you as you jog. After a few minutes you begin to sense two things: what feels like a hollow's reiatsu in the distance, down a passage that slopes downward and to your left. It's a little hard to assess accurately, as if something is dampening your sixth sense. Ahead of you on the other hand is a sound of some sort: it could either be falling water, or a slow-moving piece of machinery.

The map isn't particularly helpful in this regard, as it's not totally clear what the left passage might connect to and no machinery or topography is listed on the passage ahead of you.

Taking a sharp left you run down the hallway, which slopes gently away from the main passage. Your senses feel even more dampened by whatever is causing this problem, and you still have a tough time figuring out how many hollows there are this way or how strong they might be. In fact you're so absorbed in trying to solve this question that you don't notice the floor opening up in front of you until you're mid stride.

“Riku!” Tenkotsuki barks. “Look...”

Instead of slowing down you kick off your back foot as hard as you can, propelling yourself across the darkened chasm and into the mouth of a tunnel on the far side. Your shoes slide across the smooth stone as you come to a stop, then edge carefully back towards the darkness you've vaulted through.

“... that went much better than expected.”

“The hell is this?” you ask aloud, shining a light down into the hole. You can see the bottom, some thirty meters below, where there's a thin layer of rubble and dust. Looking back up the hole extends much further into the darkness.

“It reeks of death down there,” Rosa observes, her tone one of pure disgust. “Dead hollows, fear, suffering... and no small amount of it.”

You've heard rumors of this from Yoruichi, about how the shinigami and nobles of the Seireitei used to throw condemned criminals into holes lined with seki stone and make them fight hollows to the death. This must've been one of those places, a long time ago, before it was paved over when that sort of cruelty fell out of vogue.

“This wasn't listed on the map,” you muse, glancing down at a segment of your map that must've been updated incorrectly after the hole was covered up. Someone must've just forgotten to update the old charts centuries ago, and nobody's been down here to check it since then. “If I'd tripped that might've been bad.”

“According to the map this passage leads to a cistern,” Tenkotsuki muses. “Who can say what else we may encounter?”

>Head back to the main passageway, investigate the machinery and/or waterfall?

Seki stones have an intrinsic property of saying fuck you to reiatsu, they don't ever lose potency. And it'd be damn near impossible to collect a sample after it's been worked: most shinigami have no idea how seki stone structures were even constructed to begin with.
>>
>>819186

So Tatsuki and Orihime probably have the best chance of extracting something valuable, via conceptual bullshit. I mean they KINDA use reiatsu for their abilities, but if anything could avoid the fuck-you reiatsu effects, they could.

You glance down at the map, and the fact that the document you were really counting on to guide you was so glaringly outdated pisses you off to no end. You resolve to fix it.

“You do not have a pen, dear,” Tenkotsuki observes.

Instead of losing hope you charge a cero and blast a hole in the ground high above , letting in a little extra light. “There, I can go back later and mark this down.”

“Quite extreme, but effective.”

Using Hainawa as insurance, you launch yourself back across the gap and head back up the passageway the way you came. It doesn't take all that long to rejoin the main waterway you left previously, and you continue towards the source of the noise. It takes a while, and the noise grows increasingly intense as you go. Louder and louder, until you're almost going insane from the monotony of it all... and then you stop.

There's a large chamber ahead of you that the water is flowing into, at least by the sound of it and the way the water is moving, and you have Tenkotsuki lower the light to where it's barely outlining the surrounding pathway.

“There's something up ahead,” you tell Tenkotsuki silently. “I don't know what it is, but I doubt it's friendly.”

When you approach the corner you sink into a low crouch, readying your carbine, and dart around the corner to draw a bead on...

“Yoruichi?” you ask as a blade is pressed suddenly against your neck.

“Riku?” your wife's voice answers as Tenkotsuki raises the light. It certainly seems to be her alright, and her reiatsu feels familiar despite being suppressed. She quickly sheaths her sword “Shit, it really was you. How long was that passage?”

“I take it you beat Kenpachi?” you ask. “What's got you so spooked? You must've known it was me.”

“You'd think that,” she replies. “But this place is fucking with my senses. I think it's this chamber, take a look.”

Glancing down you can see that both your theories were right: the water empties into a spinning blade, like that of a turbine. It moves kind of slowly, but it looks like it's probably a power generator of some sort. Beyond the blades are dim red lights, like emergency lights, that illuminate the chamber beneath the turbine.

“The electricity this thing generates may be throwing me off,” your wife guesses thoughtfully. “Not totally sure why, might have to do with Raijūsenkō... Kisuke's really the one who'd know for sure.”
>1/2
>>
>>819339
“That makes some sense,” you frown. “Lots of animals are sensitive to electromagnetic fields, and your sword really does harness your own nerves for electricity... so I guess that's a real thing that could happen?”

Yoruichi looks down with you, watching the blade slowly spin. “So, you wanna go down there?”

“Well, if you came from that direction,” you muse, glancing over her shoulder at the passageway she took to get here and wondering yourself how far you've come yourself. “Only way forward is down, I guess?”

Looking around the room you try your hardest to find a way to shut the turbine off: it'd piss Kisuke off to no end if you just destroyed it, and it may actually be powering something important up in the Seireitei. Finally you look up and spot what seems to be a circuit breaker not within the duct of the turbine but high above it, set within a recessed well in the chamber's ceiling.

“I've got a solution to your little problem,” you tell her, aiming down the short sight base at the metal box. “Let's see how this works.”

A single cough greets your ears, and there's a gentle kick as the trigger breaks. The shot easily penetrates the protective metal casing of the circuit breaker and incinerates much of the wiring inside it, causing something to go catastrophically wrong in the whole system. A hum in the background you'd hardly realized was there immediately ceases, leaving the room quieter as the turbine blade slowly spins down to a stop. The water still splashes loudly against the metal, though the whole thing seems to be locked down.

Yoruichi raises her eyebrows, sniffs at the air, then smiles. “Much better, thanks. Shall we?”

Dropping down onto the blade and glancing over the edge reveals a long but not troublesome drop, and so the two of you simply fall through the air and land in a crouch on hard stone. The water here spreads out across a much wider chamber in a shallow pool that splashes as it's disturbed.

“No reiatsu down here,” Yoruichi observes, glancing down another long passageway that heads down a gentle slope for as long as you can see. And she's right, you can't feel anything that way.

“It could just be that they're hidden behind a barrier, or in a seki stone chamber,” you observe.

“Or we're down here chasing the same wild goose,” Yoruichi sighs. “They may have used the same passages above to canvass the whole area, and we may be going further and further in the wrong direction.”

Well, testing to see if she is fake is an idea. It was weird to me that she just wants to lure them out, Yoru would know that wouldn't work. I don't know if she is though, she stopped when she could have killed Riku. It goes against the no hesitation thing. I suppose that could've been fixed, but then there would be no way to tell the fake from the real thing.

“You're right,” you sigh, and Yoruichi visibly relaxes when she hears you say those two words. “We're just fumbling around down here. Let's go back.

You form a platform of reishi beneath your feet and carry yourself and your wife upwards and back through the turbine duct, before taking off running back along the corridor. About halfway back, taking a conservative pace, you feel something that horrifies you: bursts of familiar reiatsu, intensely powerful, seeping through the rocks. It's hard to even figure out what's going on, but there's a massive battle under way back on your own Division's grounds.

Your heart skips a beat as you recognize one of the presences.

“Riku!” Yoruichi shouts after you as you do what you've only ever done once before, and use shunpō in conjunction with hirenkyaku. The strain on your body is obscene, but you don't give a damn about yourself right now.

It's when you reemerge and crash headlong through several walls to reach the barracks that your worst fears are realized.

Starrk, Tia, Bambietta... all of the strongest fighters among your list of close friends and allies are badly battered. Starrk's arm is horrifically burned, Halibel seems like she's taken an explosion or two to her face that have left cracks in her bony armor, and Bambi looks like a drowned rat that's only just managed to stand up. You can tell there are broken bones all throughout her body, even from here. Across from them stand copies of Gin, Suì Fēng, Mayuri, and Rangiku... though they're all in rough shape as well from the looks of it, they seem to have given better than they've gotten.

Then you see it: a green-haired man in a ridiculous robe, like that of a Heian courtesan, wielding a ridiculous two-headed halberd.

And his foot is on your daughter's neck.

“Ah, how lovely of you to join us, Captain!” the man greets you in a disgustingly professional tone. “I was just asking your daughter here what she did with an associate of mine, whom you've met. She refused to tell me of course, but given the situation...”

He gives his foot a small turn, adding pressure on his already wounded victim.

Your anger... you never stood a chance of holding it back. It practically burns your skin, pouring out of you from every pore as your entire body shakes.

“So tell me,” the dead man drones on, oblivious to the moment when your rage finally shattered any control over your body. Tenkotsuki and Rosa as well, their outrage resonating with your own and going totally out of control.

“Bankai!” you roar. “Higeki no Ōjo!”

>>
>>820048
I'd argue that regai-Rangiku doesn't really have a counter, but she doesn't need one. Her abilities are used best when she personally holds back, which regai specifically cannot do

And before anyone else present can react, Rangiku is out from under the man's foot. You set her down gently several hundred meters away, before slicing a deep gash into your palm and covering her wounds in your own blood.

“Thanks,” she mutters. “I got careless when that copy of Gin showed up... I'm sorry.”

“I know you can't help it,” you reassure her quietly. “And there's nothing you can do about that now. So let me handle things from here.”

“Got it,” she coughs. “Not like I could do much to help right now anyway.”

“Shut up and rest.”

“Yes, ma'am.”

With a step just as quick, you return to the scene of the battle. The Captain reigai eye you warily as the stupid-looking man who was hurting your daughter chuckles to himself.

“Well, now that you're done being sentimental...”

“Shut your fucking mouth, dead man,” you growl, your voice echoing menacingly.

“Making threats just makes you sound weak,” the reigai of Little Bee observes, raising her shikai over her shoulder.

“This is bad,” reigai-Gin replies. “We should consider a full tactical withdrawal.”

“You mean retreat?” Mayuri's copy asks.

“Absolutely,” Rangiku's copy agrees with a terrified glance at the copy of your son. “I've been copied with enough memories to know that staying here is...”

“No,” the dead man replies sternly. “We will not retreat. I am tired of having to constantly tiptoe around this freak of nature, and now I have a chance to kill her. Today is a good day.”

It's only now that Yoruichi, who has only been using shunpō, catches up. Her eyes widen as she immediately understands the situation. Then her expression hardens.

I want in,” she hisses. “We kill them together.”

“Of course,” you reply in a deceptively calm tone. “I wouldn't deny you this. Tia, Starrk?”

Halibel in particular seems a little surprised at your use of her first name in the middle of a fight, as if you were having a polite conversation over tea. “Yes?”

“If you see an opening exploit it. But please leave the heavy lifting to Yoruichi and me, our powers are well-suited to fighting in concert like this.”

You look to your wife as she twirls one of her swords. “Ready?”

She nods, sending the blade spinning high above her. “Purr, Raijūsenkō!”

The familiar static buzz washes over your skin as blinding light envelops Yoruichi's body, concentrating on her forearms and feet and giving her a slightly feline, feral appearance. It's begun.

Without speaking to one another you launch your attack, and you're shocked to find that the dead man can somehow keep up with you... but only just. It's more like Ichigo's speed, where he's able to keep himself from being killed outright, but it's his shikai that seems to make things worse. Each time he spins the halberd heads he opens a small portal through the dangai and reappears elsewhere. Stuff like this it seems are a weakness to your shinreiryoku's effect: he's manipulating space in the same way that garganta or Negacion would, which means his abilities rely on a different reality altogether.

But you've got him on the back foot, and the whole fight is occurring at a speed and in such close quarters that it's hard for them to engage. Suì Fēng actually earns Yoruichi's foot to her teeth for trying.

“You done fucked up!” Yoruichi shouts as her fist collides with the center of the spinning halberd, which abruptly reverses directions.

The dead man grins wickedly as the reversal of the situation completely reverses as the spin does. From a portal formed between the halberd heads comes a cluster of powerful ice spikes... Hyōrinmaru? The reiatsu seems to fit, and although Yoruichi manages to dodge or parry all of the spikes it's a worrying development. Because his shikai relies on dimensional shenanigans he can essentially avoid the most hindering side effect of your Bankai.

Though a pattern is emerging, and Yoruichi's quick to seize upon it.

“What!?” The dead man's eyes widen as chains of electricity bind his blades in place, and instead of trying to sneak a sword strike in there when he could turn his waist you opt for something different.

You punch him in the face.

The force of the blow damn near breaks his neck, though he only just manages to lean back and roll with the force a little. It sends him reeling and breaks him free from Raijūsenkō, and he crashes through a nearby wall.

Suì Fēng in the mean time has been busy preparing.

“Bankai: Jakuhō Raikōben!”

Even as the dust settles from the release a golden, shining missile lances towards you with simply insane speed... only to divert from its intended arc. It narrowly misses you as Yoruichi pulls it off course, having used Urahara's two teleportation gadgets to help her loop electric arcs around the missile and reposition herself. With a roar of exertion she swings the missile in a wide arc until it comes almost full circle, slamming right into Mayuri's gut. The reigai's eyes go wide as the missile pushes him skyward until it explodes against the protective dome high above the Seireitei.

“One down,” Yoruichi purrs happily, even as an explosion blows away an afterimage left by Suì Fēng's Utsusemi.

“Damn,” Bambi hisses angrily. “Bitch is stupid fast...”

Thankfully your friends take the copies of your children off your hands, focusing on them so that you don't have to. This not only spares you the discomfort of having to kill two people who by some measures are Gin and Rangiku, but gives you an opening.

The dead man is just struggling to his feet when you and Yoruichi fall on him, forcing him to blink in and out of the Seireitei's spacetime frantically to avoid your furious assault. And unlike your usual approach, which would only serve to provide him with a chance to copy and presumably return your best attacks, you stick to physical attacks from unexpected angles. Swaying, almost drunken steps cause him to react to attacks that never come, your feet tracing subtle circles here and there across the open training ground of the Ninth Division. Yoruichi does the same, staggered against your own steps in an unpredictable and erratic dance.

“I tire of this!” the dead man shouts in anger, clearly upset that his stolen powers aren't enough to put you down. He rotates his weapon once more, forming a powerful Cascada within the circular garganta formed by his zanpakuto.

You shout to your wife as you each slam a palm into the ground. “Now! Renkan Seppa Sen!”

A massive expanse of Ninth Division's turf reduces itself to sand in an instant, geysers of earth shooting from the ground and throwing the dead man off balance. As powerful as the waters of Tiburon are the sheer amount of earth that's been sent into the air takes a lot of power out of the technique. But he rallies quickly, casting a bakudō that momentarily pins Yoruichi in place until you use a silent hirenkyaku and surprise him with a slash across the back. He staggers forward... until a second dead man takes the weapon out of his hands.

“A clone?” you growl, realizing that he used the sand as a distraction to substitute some sort of reiagai clone of himself. “That won't be enough to save you, dead man.”

To illustrate the point, he's forced to raise his zanpakuto to produce another copied attack to drive Yoruichi off: this time a cero copied from Starrk. Thankfully he didn't use Gran Rey Metralleta, or else Yoruichi might've been in trouble.

“Close, too close!” she grins, eyes practically shining with malice. “I'll have to step my game up!”

“Raioken!” she roars, throwing a series of completely unchained punches as the dead man spins his weapon in a desperate attempt to copy all of them. “Let's see what your limit is!

Using the opportunity you nearly slice his head off, and he's forced to stop copying Yoruichi's attacks. He takes two or three rapid-fire punches before he can escape, and you can see blood drip from his mouth from the internal injuries. His breathing comes heavily as he glares at you.

You know how you need to finish this. You wrap the two-headed zanpakuto in kidō chains and give Yoruichi an opportunity to use her Bankai, which changes form dramatically. A guandao, its heavy, ornate blade coated in a thin layer of blood-red frost. You know this blade from legend.

The Lěng Yàn jù.

But as Yoruichi moves in for the kill, something unexpected happens: the dead man gets so desperate, he releases his hold on his zanpakuto. Your chains go slack, and he raises his hand even as Yoruichi winds her massive blade up over her shoulder. Her eyes widen in surprise as he makes another desperate move and opens a portal: right in Yoruichi's side. The portal is unstable, and collapses almost immediately, but the spatial distortion is so violent that it tears through your wife's side like her body was made of paper.

Her own strike nearly severs the dead man's arm as it carves out a gash near the base of his neck, but somehow the man is still standing. Yoruichi on the other hand is left keeling, bleeding freely from her side and from the corners of her mouth. She embeds the heavy pommel of the guandao in the ground next to her, trying clearly to force herself back to her feet after the surprise attack.

Nope. In this release state the consciousness of Riku, Tenkotsuki, and Rosa blur to the point where you're not even really playing as "Riku" anymore. You lower your sword, and practically float across the tortured landscape with smooth, light footsteps. The many colorful layers of your ceremonial kimono billow with each step underneath your white haori, and at least from your perspective it feels like time has slowed to a crawl. You hardly take notice of the fact that the other fights around you have stopped for a moment.

There's something more important to you right now. You drop your blade and your sheath onto the ground at your sides.

Kneeling behind Yoruichi and slowly putting your arms around her, you wrap her up in a gentle embrace. You begin channeling kaidō through your hands, easing her pain and stemming the flow of blood. She probably could have survived these wounds. Shinigami are tough like that. But even despite your rage at the man who inflicted them on her, this takes priority.

Meanwhile the wounded man has grabbed his zanpakuto and spins it, launching a torrent of water. But with an unshakable calm you open a rift between the hilt of your sword and the mouth of its sheath, and the bulk of the Cascada simply passes into the aether between worlds.

Your arms pull Yoruichi back to her feet, having saved her from any imminent danger despite her not really needing it.

“Haven't you had enough yet?” you ask the dead man as he pants from overexertion. “You've done so much harm, and you've never even told us what it's all for.”

“I was so close!” he pants, bringing his weapon to bear once more even under your glare. “But you just have to get in the way! Not even a fucking shinigami! How come they accept you, but the work of real scientists are shunned? Why is it that someone like you who was given everything gets acknowledged, while those of us who work for it are ridiculed, or worse ignored!?”

“So it's pure selfishness,” Yoruichi asks, raising the Lěng Yàn jù once more. “Words can't even describe how disappointed I am to hear that.”

You raise your arm and with a thought manifest nine black orbs of reiatsu that lock the troublesome scientist in place. “Kuyō Shibari!”

Before he can react Yoruichi follows through on your bakudō, and sweeps the heavy blade in a wide, powerful arc that cuts the dead man's head from his shoulders in a spray of blood. It's as if blood was actually pulled from his body and flash-frozen in a strangely beautiful sculpture that spreads in wild, glistening arcs from the severed neck.

>>
>>821198
The leader of the reigai rebellion is dead. He put up a hell of a fight: your Division is battered, your wife is covered in her own blood, and you've probably used more reiatsu than you should have through all this. Your daughter is still recovering, and Kisuke's reiatsu is so weak you can barely sense it.

But one problem remains: the surviving reigai.

You put an arm around Yoruichi's back as her weapon disappears, propping her up as you turn to face the remaining reigai. Gin and Rangiku glance nervously at each other, and Suì Fēng raises her fists in a defensive stance.

… so what next?

In the meeting hall of the Executive of the Onmitsukidō, Shihōin Yoruichi sits silently with a stack of papers on her lap and a mug of rapidly-cooling tea at her side. Giant sliding screens have partly walled her off from the open chamber outside where a dozen or so of the Executive militia sit in vigilant silence, blocking the line of sight but still allowing the afternoon sun to fall on her. After spending her whole morning and into the afternoon hunting down hollows with members of her Executive Militia after a spate of attacks in the Rukongai's Hokutan district, she was only too happy to take the rest of the day nice and slow. But paperwork is just too damn boring, and the afternoon sun feels so nice on her skin...

With a soft, muffled thump her head hits the floor as she sprawls out in the warm glowing center of the room, contented by the heat radiating from the tatami floor. She shuts her eyes to try and tune out the outside world.

“Lady Shihōin? Are you okay in there?” one of her assembled adjutants asks from the other side of the wall.

Yoruichi sighs to herself. “There's no reason for any of you to be here. Take the afternoon off.”

“Are you sure ma'am?” the man asks, confused as much by her casual tone as he is by her orders. “I mean, we're supposed to be here when you're in the office... hey, what are you two brats doing in here!? This isn't a place to play!”

Propping herself up, Yoruichi spots a young boy with short silver hair and a girl about the same age with light, reddish-blonde hair that falls about to her shoulders. It seems they've let themselves into the meeting hall without prior arrangement, much to the consternation of the militiamen assembled to 'guard' her.

“We're not here to play!” the girl protests angrily, looking almost on the verge of tears. “We're looking for Lieutenant Kusajishi!”

“Ridiculous,” the man scoffs at her. “Go out and find a ball to play with, or something. We don't have time for...”

“Let them past,” Yoruichi insists firmly. “Then maybe you should go out and find a ball to play with, try learning how to lighten up.”

“By your orders, ma'am,” the stunned man responds.

“Get to it.”

With the adjutants already filing out of the hall, Yoruichi turns her attention to the two young interlopers. “They're right though. You two really shouldn't be in here at all, let alone without having been brought here on orders. What do you have to say for yourselves?”

The girl looks down at her feet, shifting her weight uncomfortably under the weight of Yoruichi's gaze. “Sorry, Captain Shihōin. We overslept this morning, and when we woke up the Lieutenant was gone, so we've been looking for her all day...”

“I get it,” Yoruichi sighs, leaning back once more to lay in the sun. “So don't panic. I just sent Riku out on an urgent mission, that's all. She'll be back soon enough.”

“Urgent?' the boy asks curiously. “You mean like somethin' dangerous?”

“For her? Nope, not at all,” she replies calmly. “For the guy I sent her to arrest, I'd say so.”

“We've seen her fight hollows before,” the girl chimes in. “So is this guy even more dangerous than that?”

“Oh, definitely!” Yoruichi snorts with laughter. “I'd worry about anyone below the level of a Lieutenant going after him, but Riku's strong even by those standards. So would you stop with the worrying already? You'll be an old gray lady before you know it at this rate!”

Seeing that her two young guests are still ill at ease, Yoruichi claps her hands and calls out into the room. “Aino, tea please. Three for now, but keep a fourth ready.”

The call of “yes ma'am” from behind a nearby wall draws a confused glance from the children.

“Don't mind that,” Yoruichi insists from the floor, “just sit down over at that table and we'll have tea. You like sweets?”

“Of course,” the boy replies with a frown, “doesn't everyone?”

“You'd be surprised,” Yoruichi grins.

“So what did the man you sent Lieutenant Kusajishi to arrest do wrong?” the girl asks quietly.

Yoruichi sighs. “Rangiku, right?”

“Yes, ma'am.”

“Shinigami aren't just allowed to resign,” Yoruichi explains carefully, mindful of how delicate the matter really is. “If your health declines past a certain point that's one thing, and dying in the line of duty is always a possibility even for Captains... though that's a real rarity. But to leave your post can be considered treason.”

“Riku's mission is to bring this officer back to our corrections facility. If he fights back with lethal force, or takes a life trying to resist, she has authorization to treat him as a traitor.”

“So she can just kill him for not wantin' to keep servin'?” Gin asks incredulously.

“Anyone with the sort of power a seated shinigami has is viewed as a potential threat,” Yoruichi explains, “depending on how they use that power. We have some leeway in how we deal with disobedient subordinates of course, but there's a point where we have to put our foot down.”

From a disguised doorway in the back of the room emerges the figure of a young woman, dressed in a simple yukata with a brocaded obi around her waist. Stepping gingerly across the tatami in white socks she still somehow makes an absolute racket compared to Yoruichi's footsteps, but kneels and places trays with tea and a small cake in front of each visitor and in front of her mistress.

“Thank you, Aino,” Yoruichi smiles warmly as she sits up to drink properly. “You've done well. Did you prepare the fourth cup as I asked?”

Aino bows deeply, strands of her chestnut hair touching the floor beneath her. “Yes, Lady Shihōin.”

“Good, then go home early. You've earned a break.”

Rising to her knees, the young woman's face is bright with enthusiasm. “Thank you, ma'am! Please enjoy the cakes, I baked them fresh this afternoon from a new recipe.”

After she leaves Yoruichi sniffs the cake in front of her skeptically before taking a nibble. Her eyebrows arch in surprise. “It seems she has improved. These are pretty good!”

“Why is that a surprise?” Rangiku asks curiously.

Yoruichi swallows her first bite of cake. “Aino is from a vassal family of the Fēng, which in turn is a vassal of the Shihōin. Those families below us often send their daughters to practice hospitality with the Onmitsukidō by serving the Executive, as Aino does. It seems dumb on the surface, but baking good cakes is important in how a family presents itself.”

“That's just how it is.”

“I see,” Gin nods thoughtfully through a mouthful of food.

Several long minutes pass in silence as the sun dips lower into the sky.

“This is nice and all, but I wish Riku would get back already.” Yoruichi yawns and stretches out even wider across the floor than before, as if trying to take up as much space as physically possible with her limbs.

“You seem real relaxed for a noblewoman,” Gin observes slyly, setting aside his tea, “and you talk 'bout your Lieutenant like you actually miss her company.”

Yoruichi chuckles to herself. “I guess I do, don't I? Imagine that...”

She then sits up suddenly, as if she's just come to some sort of conclusion. “Tell you what, let's play a game until she comes back. Either of you two seen a beigoma before?”

Gin shakes his head while Rangiku just looks confused. “What's a beigoma?”

Is there an actual list of the SS noble families anywhere? It seems like they were just introduced as the plot demanded and then treated as though they were super important.

Kubo gonna Kubo I guess
>>
>>824066
No, most of them are only ever hinted at. We don't even know the names of all the great families, let alone what they're responsible for.

By the time you get back to headquarters it's already well after dark, and you find that almost everyone has packed it in for the night. Everyone except for whoever it was who lit the candles.

“Took a little longer than we anticipated,” you admit quietly, taking a seat on the floor next to Yoruichi as she reads by candlelight. Nearby Rangiku is lying on the floor passed out, surrounded by dozens of metal spinning tops, while Gin is curled up near the wall surrounded by brightly-painted playing cards. Each of them is wrapped up in a blanket, with a soft cushion jammed in under their heads.

“You got a black eye,” she observes after only a cursory glance in your direction. In all the time you've known her, you've still not been able to figure out just how good her eyesight is, but it's gotta be absolutely extraordinary.

“Well, my target didn't appreciate being arrested,” you shrug. “I hope they didn't cause you any trouble.”

Yoruichi rolls over onto her back, setting her book aside. “They wanted to stay up and wait for you, but I tired them out with some games. Gin's got amazing pattern recognition and memory for his age, and I'm not sure if it's luck or whether Rangiku's instincts are just that sharp. We weren't wrong... they've both got stunning potential.”

“I see,” you sigh, massaging the back of your neck. “Thanks for handling them.”

“My pleasure,” Yoruichi insists, slowly sitting up. “You know you could've asked me to look after them before you left.”

“I could've, yeah. But I figured you might... you know.”

Yoruichi cocks her eyebrow at you. “That I don't like kids?”

“That you might not want them around.”

“What nonsese,” she replies quietly, raising her knee to rest her elbow against it. “I know this is important to you... so what kind of friend would I be if I didn't pitch in? Besides, I'll have you know I'm great with kids!”

“Right, right,” you chuckle, raising your hands in defeat. “I could use all the help I can get. Starting with carrying these two back to my quarters.”

Yoruichi smiles happily, rolling Gin over to pick him up off the floor blanket and all. One of the cards, which has been stuck to his forehead, falls to the floor and Yoruichi gingerly kicks it aside with her toe.

“Well then, that's settled.”

- OMAKE 2 -
“You have our welcome,” a voice booms in the dim. A great and fierce serpent, wreathed in brilliant and burning plumage, descends in great coils to perch upon a massive stone pillar. “You responded so quickly to the summons.”

Across the stone-walled room a magnificent golden bird settles in to roost alongside a dark-furred coyote, the latter of whom looks distinctly unhappy with the arrangement. His displeasure however is not mirrored in his words.

“Of course,” he grumbles. “The great lord Thunderbird considers this an issue of great importance, yadda yadda, all that diplomatic nonsense.”

The Thunderbird screeches loudly, as if admonishing its companion.

“Oh hush up, you big ball of feathers,” Coyote barks. “If you'd learn how to speak properly you wouldn't need an interpreter.”

The Thunderbird makes a somewhat more conciliatory tone.

“Yeah, I know I'm the only one with the gift of tongues,” the four-legged deity sighs in consternation. “Since I'm the only one who actually understands you, we're kind of stuck with each other.”

“That sounds like quite the trial,” a female voice greets the assembled deities. “So is this everyone?”

“Artemis,” the feathery serpent booms a second time. “You have come far. Take some rest, for Inari has yet to arrive.”

“Don't joke, Quetzalcoatl,” Artemis scoffs, “you're not good at it. What self-respecting god of the hunt would tire after only crossing half the globe?”

“Have you come alone?” Quetzalcoatl continues in the same tone, not because he's angry but because that's the only way he can speak.

Artemis nods once. “I did. The others saw no reason for me to have an escort... or an interpreter.”

The Thunderbird caws, as if it doesn't appreciate the insinuation that it needs either of those things.

“She has a point you know,” Coyote argues. The Thunderbird preens its feathers thoughtfully.

After a few minutes, the final guest arrives. Inari pauses at the door to the chamber to bow gracefully before joining the others near Quetzalcoatl.

“I do hope that I have not kept you waiting,” she apologizes with a sweep of her sleeves.

Quetzalcoatl shifts his coils in the restless sort of way that makes his next words out to be a lie. “Not at all, Inari. I am glad you are here.”

“I trust that you will explain why it is that you have called us here, Quetzalcoatl?” Inari presses, tucking her hands into her sleeves in a show of mock patience. “Some urgent bit of business?”

“I have asked you to come here so that we can discuss a matter of great importance,” the feathered serpent explains loudly. “It has come to our attention that there is a revolt among the shinigami. A Captain has done the unthinkable.”

“And pursued divinity, yes, we're aware,” Coyote rolls his eyes dramatically. “That hardly calls for such an unprecedented meeting.”

The Thunderbird caws loudly, beating its wings in agitation.

“Yes, I know that too,” Coyote grumbles. “You keep saying that.”

“Saying what?” Artemis asks. “He's just making cawing sounds!”

“That he knows we're involved with Captain Kusajishi.”

“Everyone knows that already,” Inari sighs heavily.

The great serpent Quetzalcoatl winds himself around his rock just a little bit tighter. “What most do not realize is what Thunderbird has told me.”

“And what is it he told you?” Inari asks.

“That there are a few divinities who have gone beyond complacence.”

Inari and Artemis exchange a knowing glance before Artemis speaks. “So what is it you wish to know?”

“Does either Captain pose a threat to us?” Quetzalcoatl.

“They pose far greater a threat to each other,” Inari muses. “Would you disagree, Artemis?”

Artemis nods thoughtfully. “Yes, I do believe so Inari.”

“The real question you should be asking yourselves,” Coyote adds, laying his head down between his front legs, “is who you would prefer to 'win' this little game of theirs?”

“You see Thunderbird, Quetzalcoatl,” Artemis continues, “you seem to be under the impression that any of what has been set in motion can be prevented... it's far, far too late for that.”

“What do you mean?” Quetzalcoatl booms as Thunderbird cranes his head, looming large over Artemis.

“What she means to say is that the damage is done,” Inari concludes. “There are much older and fouler things which could rear their heads, and the New World needs to decide how they will deal with that threat.”

“You know what they're referring to,” Coyote insists from the floor.
>2/?
>>
>>831811
For a while, the gods are silent.

“And so you believe that your overstep is justified, Inari?” Quetzalcoatl demands angrily. “I have also heard that your daughter aspect is the source of the second Captain's power. Are you sure this is more than mere nepotism?”

“I have half a mind to skin you and wear you round my neck, snake,” Inari retorts, glaring daggers at the great deity before her, “were such accessories not terribly out of fashion. I do care deeply for my daughter's well-being, however you should not allow that detail to delude you into believing the threat is somehow less credible.”

“You know what is at stake, as well as the rest of us do.”

The Thunderbird caws once at Quetzalcoatl, then picks at the feathers near the base of its left wing. Quetzalcoatl looks to Coyote for a translation.

Coyote lifts his head slightly. “He says you're a damn fool, Quetzalcoatl.”

“I find that difficult to believe.”

“I may sometimes embellish,” the trickster god admits, laying his head down again. “But I never lie. The North American pantheon is in agreement with Inari's actions, and is in favor of a full pardon.”

“The pantheon of Valhalla speaks for all of Europe when we assent,” Artemis adds sternly.

“And I have also to convey messages from Anansi and the Djanggawul,” Inari bows once more. “They send their greetings, and those of their kin. They were tasked to examine the situation, and have concluded that the transgressions of a few foreign gods weighs little in their minds. However they do share my current fears... that the long peace might soon be broken.”

“It seems there is an accord,” the great feathered serpent muses loudly. “Very well then. We of the South shall abide by this decision... though if any deities take further direct action we reserve the right to arbitration.”

“You have that right, of course,” Coyote says, grinning ear to ear. “Though if we are right about this, you'll swiftly be reminded that not all beings in this world are so civil as I.”

Have we noticed many of our subordinates in the 9th division lusting after us over the centuries?
Do many people consider riku attractive, scariness notwithstanding?

How many people know about us and yoruichi that haven't been explicitly told?
How many in the 9th division have felt the full force (or a significant portion) of our reiatsu, what were their thoughts afterwards and how many people have we accidentally killed when releasing it during battle?

What does zaraki think of us, beyond his obvious constant desire to fight us?
What did yamamoto think of us?
What did ichigo and kyoraku think when we were able to knock him unconscious and hid him right in front of byakuya without him noticing?

What were unohana's thoughts and her opinion of us after she found out that we were able to kill her reigai?
Are we quite as scared of unohana now that we've killed her once?
What is our ranking in terms of strength according to the public opinion of those in the seireitei?

What does ichigo's reiatsu feel like? You said ours feels like pins and needles over your whole body, and unohana's feels like a knife against your throat. What about rukia, tatsuki and yoruichi?

Has anyone ever accidentally walked in on us naked, and if so, what happened to them?
How many people know about our origins in the rukongai, and what do they think about it?
Who's the strongest person we could kill just by flaring our reiatsu right now?

From how far away can our reiatsu be felt while fighting at full power, and has anyone ever been surprised that they could feel us at such a distance?
Has anyone ever bet on the outcome of one of our battles, and if so, did they win?
How good is riku with computers? Does she understand how important they are in the modern world?
Did riku ever see hitler in person?

What's the most powerful attack that riku has ever directly taken?
What were appachi, mila rose and sun sung's thoughts after our battle with tia and starrk came out mostly even?

>9th division lust?
I doubt Riku would ever acknowledge it as something worth noting.
>Do many people consider riku attractive?
Probably, though most shinigami are.
>How many people know about us and yoruichi that haven't been explicitly told?
Still few, but more than there used to be since Yoruichi decided she no longer even gave half a fuck.
>How many in the 9th division have felt the full force (or a significant portion) of our reiatsu
Most now. It's considered a "baptism of fire" so to speak.
>What does zaraki think of us, beyond his obvious constant desire to fight us?
You what now?
>What did yamamoto think of us?
Any... difficulties in the short term are worth tolerating.
>What did ichigo and kyoraku think when we were able to knock him unconscious and hid him right in front of byakuya without him noticing?
It was Ukitake who was there, and it remains an embarrassment.
>What were unohana's thoughts
YES.
>Are we quite as scared of unohana now
YES.
>What is our ranking in terms of strength according to the public opinion
Top three, with Shunsui and Yoruichi (the latter based mostly on rumors).
>What does ichigo's reiatsu feel like? What about rukia, tatsuki and yoruichi?
Ichigo: warm, somewhat smothering
Rukia: chilly
Tatsuki: warm, but light
Yoruichi: a static tingle
>Has anyone ever accidentally walked in on us naked, and if so, what happened to them?
Probably, dead men tell no tales.
>How many people know about our origins in the rukongai
Many. It's divisive: some resent the success, others admire the humility.
>Who's the strongest person we could kill just by flaring our reiatsu right now?
Doesn't really work that way.
>From how far away can our reiatsu be felt while fighting at full power
Miles.
>Has anyone ever bet on the outcome of one of our battles, and if so, did they win?
Nobody's had the free time and/or presence of mind.
>How good is riku with computers?
Decent. She understands their importance.
>Did riku ever see hitler in person?
No.
>What's the most powerful attack that riku has ever directly taken?
Nearly burned her own arm off once.
>What were appaci, mila rose and sun sung's thoughts after our battle with tia and starrk came out mostly even?

Yachiru vs Lilynette
“So Lilynette, Yachiru,” you sigh, wondering to yourself how the hell you got dragged into this mess. “You understand what I'm trying to tell you?”

“Totally!” the pink-haired Lieutenant chirps gleefully. “I get to play with Lily-Lily as long as I like if I promise not to kill her!”

“It's not Lily-Lily, it's Lilynette!” the arrancar insists angrily. “Say it with me now: Lil. Eee. Net.”

Yachiru giggles loudly at Lilynette's mounting frustration. “You're so funny when you get mad, Lily-Lily!”

“Just... don't encourage her,” you sigh again as Lilynette loses her damn mind.

“What do you mean, Miss Yuri?”

“Oh, I'm not gonna encourage shit!” Lilynette growls and cracks her knuckles. “I'm just gonna strangle her!”

Lilynette lunges for Yachiru's throat, but the little Lieutenant dives deftly away from her attacker with a squeal of delight. The arrancar girl tries again to no avail, as Yachiru springs into the air and hops lightly off the mask fragments that cling to the crown of Lilynette's head. A third assault sees Yachiru laugh hear head off as she sidesteps a series of punches and flying leaps, each of which comes within a hair's breadth of making contact and yet seems like it misses by miles.

“Why is this happening to me!?” Lilynette cries as you can't help but smirk.

“Toldja it wasn't going to be easy.”

“Oh, shut up Riku! You're not helping!”

“This is why I wanted to do this,” you remind the two. “Yachiru was being a pain in the ass, and you needed the practice. Or do you want to keep being a glorified powerup for Starrk?”

At the latter accusation, Lilynette bristles. With an unusual silence she grabs hold of her horn and draws out the blade of her zanpakuto. Yachiru stops laughing and darting about, but the smile doesn't fade from her face.

“Ah, so you finally got serious! Yay!” she cheers joyously as she draws her own zanpakuto. “But I'll warn you, I'm really good at this... so don't hold back, okay!?”

With a loud shout Lilynette charges. “Don't you worry!”

But again, and to your mild surprise, Lilynette can't seem to land anything approaching a convincing hit. Sure her swings are a little bit wild and telegraphed, but Yachiru never really struck you as having any special talent with a sword. So why is it she seems to react so quickly, so decisively? Is it just having been around Kenpachi for so long that she's picked up the basics?

To be frank, SSQ Canon Riku could theoretically pull it off too given her current position, except it would be met with even fiercer resistance. That said, the whole "THE SYSTEM IS MINE" thing is precisely the theoretical worst case scenario that the Royal Guard/C-46/G13 are afraid of Riku pulling.

>>835537
inb4 it devolves into a "my dad can beat your dad" shouting match except replace the dads with Coyote Starrk and Kenny respectively.

>>835415
To Riku/Rosa/Tenkotsuki: If the sensation of Flash Stepping is taking many steps to cross a distance within a "single step", and Hirenkyaku creating a Reishi current between 2 distant particles under your feet to "ride the lightning", what's it like when you use Shunpo and Hirenkyaku at the same time? And if under ideal conditions where there's no obstacles or buildings to trip you over or slow you down, what's the top speed you think you can achieve if you went all-out in using both Hirenkyaku and Shunpo at the same time?
>>
>>835541
Shunpo is essentially accelerating instantly to your maximum speed with each step, so it'd be like a series of jolts to a novice. For a true master it's a more fluid experience. For Hirenkyaku it'd feel more like ice skating. For both? It literally feels like nothing, because you're moving faster than your own senses can process the movement.

As for alt-Riku's THE SYSTEM IS MINE moment, consider what would happen if she got hold of the Spear-Birb and used its power to augment Ransotengai. If 'canon' Riku did it even for the best possible reasons she'd be exiled, killed, and/or imprisoned and she knows it. For all intents and purposes it's not a viable option, though it should illustrate WHY some people are terrified of her sheer versatility and borderline criminal disregard for authority.

Why... can't... I... hit you!?? Lilynette cries as she desperately tries to slice Yachiru in half. For her part the tiny Lieutenant just giggles madly as her arms seem to move on their own...

Is that really it?

“Please...” Lilynette pants, having all but exhausted herself against Yachiru's impeccable guard. “Please... just die...”

“Aw, that wouldn't be any fun!”

“Let me try,” you request, bowing gently to the Lieutenant. “May I?”

“Sure thing, Yuri!” Yachiru chirps as you draw Tenkotsuki. Lilynette stares at you in disbelief.

“Captain Kusajishi... the hell're you thinking?”

You smile at her. “Just watch.”

With lightning-fast swings of your kodachi you press around her guard, sensing through each clash the strength of her arms and the speed of her reactions. Clearly those of a Lieutenant, though somewhat stronger and faster than her small frame would suggest. You feint left and strike right, then feint for the right shoulder and strike for the left hip, and each time Yachiru ignores the feint and responds to the genuine attack regardless of the tempo you set. Finally you seek to try Musashi's old technique, meeting Yachiru's parry and striking down hard. Your legs, your hands, and all your body weight combine in a single force as you step in, but Yachiru's already moving to avoid your blade even as you take your step.

Then you backhand her hard, sending her tiny body crashing into a nearby wall. No time to parry, no strength to resist.

“That was mean, Miss Yuri!” Yachiru pouts, her pink reiatsu visibly flaring. “You were holding back!”

Ah, so that's what she was mad about.

“Sorry,” you apologize as you sheath Tenkotsuki. “Here, take a few coins and go get yourself a snack. My treat.”

Any previous prejudice is gone as soon as you say “snack”... as is your money.

“What was that about?” a bewildered Lilynette asks.

You shake your head. “We need to find you a new sparring partner... that one's arguably scarier than Kenpachi.”
>>

poor Lilynette. And here I thought they would be a match. But considering Yachiru is literally Kenny's Sword Spirit, it would make sense that there would be a huge difference. so what's Lilynette's closest sparring counterpart in SSQ? Also "Miss Yuri" is Riku's nickname by Yachiru? I'd never thought pinky would actually be aware of Riku's orientation and marriage. You gonna add that to the pastebin?

- Kenpachi vs Yoruichi -

“What, am I not interesting enough for you?”

Zaraki turns to face Yoruichi, blade held low in his right hand.

With a speed few in the Seireitei could hope to keep up with, Yoruichi dashes towards the Kenpachi and slips through his guard, a series of powerful punches to the center of his chest sending him reeling and leaving angry, purple bruises. An elbow crashes down onto Yoruichi's shoulder, clearly ripping her arm out of its socket... until the afterimage fades and she kicks Kenpachi in the back of the head hard enough to embed it face-first into the stone pavers beneath his feet.

She narrowly avoids a swing of the Kenpachi's blade before he rolls to his feet, eyes sparking and a demented grin tugging at his lips. His eyepatch falls free, and his reiatsu absolutely explodes.

“Well, maybe I was wrong!” he leers, the image of a skull flickering and dancing in the torrent of pure force pouring from his body. “Maybe this will be fun after all! Hurry up and draw your swords so I can kill you!”

Yoruichi eyes her opponent carefully. Those blows didn't do as much as she'd hoped even before he released his full reiatsu... so that leaves only one real option.

“Purr, Raijūsenkō!”

Yoruichi's full release pushes back against Kenpachi's reiatsu, the two masses of energy clashing wildly between the two Captains as Kenpachi cackles madly.

“Yes! This is amazing! If you'd shown me this from the start I'd have...”

“Ikkotsu Kongō!”

A single, straight punch is all it takes.

The force of the blow is devastating, taking out an entire city block with the impact and sending arcs of electricity ripping through the Seireitei, cracking stone and shattering tiles for kilometers around. As the dust settles it becomes clear what the effect was on Kenpachi's reigai: Yoruichi's arm passes through a wide, burned hole in the center of his chest, and his arms have been torn off at the shoulders.

The look of confusion is still etched into his features as the rest of his body disintegrates.

Lilynette would be best paired with any other Lieutenant. Yachiru essentially has no "latency", meaning that she unconsciously reacts to threats in a way that no "normal" person could. Even Riku would be hard-pressed to beat her at pure kenjutsu, assuming she kept herself at a Lieutenant's level.

As for the nickname it's derived from Riku's trademark hairpiece. Yachiru sees a white flower and calls it a "Lily", or in Japanese "Yuri". It predates the modern use of the term.

If Coyote can turn Lilynette into a pistol when Starrk initiates the ressurecion, is it possible for the roles to be reversed by Lily initiating Ressurecion instead? Because I can't help but imagine a possible form of a Lilynette initiated ressurecion being Lilynette holding Starrk as a Minigun (Starrk being the lazy one, needs time to spool up)

- Omake: Fraccion vs Fraccion -
“Well, look at this!” a voice muses loudly, doing as much to call attention to itself as its owner can manage. Emilou Apacci stops in place and frowns, and her companions stop a few paces after she does.

“I thought I smelled somethin' nasty,” Apacci grumbles angrily, loosening her sword in its sheath with her thumb. “Who are you?”

“Shawlong Koufang,” the white-robed man introduces himself with a bow of his head. The arrancar's mask fragments remind her of a frying pan worn atop his head... kinda like he has a handle. “These are my companions. We serve the Espada known as Grimmjow Jaggerjaques.”

“So that's his name,” Apacci nods. “So, the rest of you gonna introduce yourselves too?”

“We're...” Mila Rose begins before Sung-Sun raises her arm.

“They are the visitors,” she reminds her friends. “It's only polite that they announce themselves first. Then we give our names.”

Apacci's eyes narrow. “Snake has a point...”

“That she does!” Shawlong agrees, nodding to his peers.

“Edrad Liones,” a large man with a red mane of hair flowing down the right side of his head introduces himself. “Always a pleasure to meet more of our kind, even if they're not long for this world.”

“Yylfordt Granz,” a blonde man with a single white horn sighs. “Let's get on with it.”

“Manners are important, Yylfordt,” a fourth arrancar reprimands the last speaker. Unlike Edrad, whose bulk is mostly muscle, this one is a bit on the porky side. “I am Nakeem Grindina.”

“Finally,” Apacci grumbles. “I'm one of Lady...”

Before Apacci can finish speaking Nakeem closes in on her with a sonido, and throws a punch at her face that she calmly catches in her palm. With a frown Apacci charges a crimson-red cero from the tip of her horn and fires it directly into Nakeem's face, sending him crashing backwards through a nearby building that collapses on top of him. His reiatsu quickly fades.

“As I was saying,” Apacci continues angrily, “we serve Lady Tia Halibel. Emilou Apacci.”

“Cyan Sung-Sun.”

“Franceska Mila Rose.”

“It seems you are stronger than we were told to anticipate,” Showlong muses half to himself. “Fascinating.”

“Hey, frying pan,” Apacci grumbles as she scratches behind her ear. “Is this really the best Aizen can do with an Adjuchas? Why don't you show us your Resurrección, make things interesting?”

Expect this fight this afternoon, and MAYBE the most recent fight if I get around to it. But I may have to save that for later.

“You're serious?” Shawlong stares at Apacci in disbelief. “We are all Adjuchas-class arrancar, which means we are all on the same level.”

“If that's true,” Apacci wonders in feigned innocence, then what happened with that friend of yours whose face I burned off?”

“That was rather impressive,” Shawlong admits, “though a single cero hardly points to some sort of insurmountable superiority. You are a fool to think otherwise.”

“Then let's see what you can do!” Apacci taunts, waving him closer with her fingertips.

“Very well,” Shawlong nods. “I will show you how foolish you truly are! Snip, Tijereta!”

As Shawlong's fingers develop into long, sharpened claws, his reiatsu sweeps outwards like a powerful gust of wind. Apacci stares on unimpressed as Edrad and Yylfordt do the same.

“You sure about this?” Mila Rose asks quietly.

“Yeah,” Apacci grins. “They're doing exactly what I wanted them to do. Give 'em hell.”

“Strangle, Anaconda!” Sung-Sun commands, her lower body merging into the form of a great, coiling serpent.

Mila Rose draws her own blade and smirks confidently. “Rora, Leona!”

For the time being, Apacci merely draws her sword.

“You mean to fight us without releasing your zanpakuto?” Shawlong scowls, his tone dripping with anger. “It would seem that I was correct, you really are too foolish to allow to live!”

Shawlong lashes out with his claws, forcing Apacci to backpedal with a sonido and throw a bala to keep the released arrancar from pursuing her. She uses the moment to begin charging a cero at the tip of her horn, but before she can finish preparing it Shawlong attacks from her right side. Long, white claws clash against her blade as she barely parries.

“Too slow!” Shawlong taunts as he draws back his left arm for what he thinks is a killing blow.

However the light gathering at the tip of Apacci's horn fades, then reappears even brighter in the palm of her left hand.

“Too obvious,” Apacci counters before firing the cero across her body at Shawlong. The blast envelops her opponent, and leaves him burned all over his upper body, but isn't strong enough to kill him. Not when only one fighter has released their zanpakuto.

Apacci glances down at her right shoulder, spying a trail of blood that trickles from a gash left where one of Shawlong's claws grazed her, and frowns.

“Well, shit,” she sighs dramatically. “Guess that answers that question.”

"Impale, Cierva!"

Shawlong is forced to raise his arm in defense against the outpouring of reiatsu as a thick coat of fur spreads across Apacci's body and her mask fragment sprouts a much more elaborate and numerous set of prongs. His eyes widen slightly in surprise as it becomes apparent just how much more powerful her release is than his own.

“How can a tamed dog of the shinigami be stronger than another adjuchas?” he demands angrily. “What did they do to you?”

“We've got nothing in common,” she tells him with a stern glare. “You don't even serve a shinigami, you serve a piece of shit that kneels to him in cowardice. We fight alongside his most deadly rivals, as equals.”

Shawlong's eyes narrow as he clearly begins contemplating a hasty retreat. “Edrad, Yylfordt! We're pulling back!”

But it's already too late. A visibly weakened Yyldordt is struggling to breath, his neck and ribs slowly being crushed under the power of Anaconda's coils as he tries desperately to pry himself free... a task made exponentially more difficult by the fact that Sung-Sun has already dislocated his arms at the shoulder. Edrad's arms are deeply cut, and one of the massive protrusions on his shoulders has been severed entirely. His breathing is heavy, and Mila Rose circles him the same way an actual lion might circle a dying beast. Both of Shawlong's companions are about to breath their last, and he knows it.

“Oh no you don't!” Apacci shouts as her opponent tries to flee, and she pelts him with a half-dozen bala to drive the point home. With the faint echo of a sonido she places herself in front of him, and slides the long, curved blades of her daggers straight through his chitinous armor plates and into his shoulders.

“We may have both been adjuchas, but you never tried to improve from there, did you? That's why we're not at the same level... not even close.”

Apacci charges a more powerful cero in front of her forehead, and sees it reflected in Shawlong's terrified eye before she finishes him off. She glances down at the smoldering corpse as she sheaths her blade and sighs.

“What a waste.”

dayum. that be brutal. I wonder what sort of changes Apacci and the Tres Bestias will make to their fighting styles after Apacci tells them how she saw Riku brutally wipe the floor with the Pavillion Espada.

yes.

When they're both sealed? Easily. Released... well, Yammy's full of shit so I can't really say. But she's at least lower-ranked Espada level.

Query: pastebins updated?
>>
>>838477
Is anyone attracted to any of the arrancar, besides starrk?
They're relatively attractive.
>>
>>839760
The only known case is Starrk tryharding in his quest to impress/woo Mirai (she finds him amusing just because he tryhard only in flirting with her).
As for the rest of the Shimigami, there's no doubt they would be, if it weren't for the fact that:
A. their very being is composed of the very creatures they're sworn to kill/commit genocide to for the sake of the world.
B. the personality they're seeing is just the surface personality that has dominated the other 10,000+ souls that make up a menos grade hollow/arrancar.
C. They aren't exactly spiritually "wholesome" and the mask fragments/hollow holes are probable turnoffs.
D. They're stupid strong and scary to boot just from the amount of power they're capable of throwing around. The weakest of the allied Arrancar is lieutenant level.
E. Aside from the Captains and a select few lieutenants, no one's willing to risk the ire of an allied Arrancar. Just socializing with them requires lots of courage and a willingness to break away from the traditional conservative mindset.

But do their dicks care about any of that?
>>
>>839974
Given that plebby humans want to bone most of the female (and probably male) arrancar. Pretty sure there are a few soul reapers who would love to try.

>inb4 hisagi tries to woo the Tres bestias each individually and fails miserably.
>>
>>840009
Believe it or not, hisagi's best chance is actually on Apacci if the quote below is any indication.
Quoted from Thread #40:

>You shrug. “If you think she's an arrancar, then yes. She is.”

>“Nice ta meetcha!” Apacci flashes her teeth. “Don't worry, we won't bite if you won't.”

>“She's a hollow,” Shūhei observes blankly. “That chick's a hollow.”

>“This one's pretty cute,” Apacci muses, “but short on brains, inne?”
>>
>>840336

If we're going by Japanese standards, all three of the Bestias have attitudes that mark them as completely unbonable pariahs.

That said, G13 is nothing if not crawling with... unconventional... personalities, and Apacci at least seems to be capable of approaching the subject in a casual manner, so I'd say she's probably had an intimate encounter or two during her time here, or at least is going to in the future, when shinigami-arrancar relationships normalize somewhat.

Some time today.

We certainly made an impression with that Yūgure Kasō on Riku(R).
Although I'm scratching my head on when and how did we learn Kaizō Hadō: Kurohitsugi Dantō.
>Tatsuki's been beating her head against training, perhaps a bit too hard.
Is it me or is Tatsuki acting a bit like Ichigo in regards to training mentality (minus Ichigo's bullshit Exp bonus he gets)?
> The remaining reigai are deeply divided. Their next move will likely depend on your decisions.
I wonder what is the cause for the schism among their numbers I wonder.... Cloning Blues may be a factor.

Off-screen research/Tenkotsuki's suggestions, same as how Urahara got his improved Byakurai.

I's mostly fear over what happens next. Some are ultimately optimistic, while others figure they're gonna die.
>>
Huh, surprised Rukia's status hasn't changed since she started training
>>
>>844640
It's because she's not DONE training, and Riku's spent most of the time since she started doing other stuff. Same explanation for why so many Captains are basically just "busy".
