"Stay low. Let them pass..."

You whispered to Logan and the few others that were hiding in. You watched as an SS unit made their hurried way past where your unit lay in wait. Halftracks and jeeps raced past, panzerhunds following close behind them.

This was the second time that you and your unit had been forced to disembark from your jeeps and hide in the brush. It was a task that had to be done with Strasse doing her best impression of a limpet mine on your side.

These constant stops and starts had made your journy out to the combat zone slow and tedious. Each stop had added 5 minuite delay to your journy. This however, was the third delay that you had encountered during your trip thus-far.

Unlike the other sections that had passed you, this section was slowed by the presence of a tank. If you had to guess it was a Panzer IV. The section was also slowed by the presence of a pair of heaviliy armoured panzerhunds. These ones were not heavily armoured like thier piers, instead they were fitted with heavy cannons on their backs, their jaws were locked in place in a mockery of mortis.

Unlike the sections that had came before them, this section came to a hault. Troops leaving the halftracks to take up positions.

"They're stopping... did they see the jeep?" Logan asked calmly, the light clicks of weapons safties being disengaged notified you of your unit's preperations.

"Maybe, should we engage?" Gilmore asked to everyone, a question more poiniently directed at you.

>Engage the enemy, you have the element of suprise.
>Stay down for now. Only engage if found out.
>Try and get out of there, there is no point in waiting around right now.

"Wait for them to pass..." You trailed off as you clicked off the safety on your Luger. The model that you carried was a standard model, it was chambered in the 9x19 parabellum that was typical of a pistol of the Reich. However, yours was still fairly new, and was fitted with a black polymer grip. Logan had referred to it as a Black Widow, a nickname given to these newer pistols by american arms dealers that sold captured pistols back in the United States.

You placed your other hand on top of Strasse's head. The young medic still hadn't gotten over your faked death. You wondered just how much she cared about your company.

Then again, you had been one of few people who had pushed for her safety. It was all together possible that she may simply have latched onto the only person that had not stated and ill intent towards her.

You waited for a couple of minuites as the SS unit milled around for a bit. You picked out a few scattered words here and there over the sound of idling engines. However, you waited on your belly for a bit longer, only for the SS section to board their halftracks and leave, just a few minuites after they had arrived.

You waited for a few minuites longer as the sound of engines filtered away into the dark, eventually, you and your comrades got up.

"Good, they're none the wiser." Logan sighed as he shook some dirt off his Thompson.

"Let's hope that things stay this way. Eugen, grab the demolition charge." Gilmore hissed as him and a pair of soldiers made their way towards the bush where one of the jeeps was hidden.

You calmly made your way over to a mound where one of your demolition charges was buried. You quickly and carefully picked up the charge and stowed it.

"Would you have done it?" Strasse asked out of the blue. Her voice was low and brittle, the shock of the previous event had not yet wore off.

"Would you have killed them?" She asked as she looked up at you with reddened eyes. Her voice was low as she asked.

>"Yes, no members of the SS deserve to live. Not for what they have done."
>"Maybe, depends on if they had found us or not."
>"No, an engagement would have ended badly."

My first focus is ending this war and making sure the SS are on the losing side. They must be held accountable for their actions but I can't do it all by myself, so sometimes we have to let them pass by.
>>
"Maybe, depends on if they had found us or not." You shrugged as you returned your pistol to your holster, the leather of the holster creaked a slight bit as it strained to accommodate your weapon of choice. Thus ensuring a secure fit.

"B-But..." Strasse began, only to stop as she chose her words differently.

"Every time we have encountered one of these SS patrols, you always tense up. Like a tiger ready to pounce. You glare them until they leave, and you always seem slightly saddened that they leave alive." Strasse began, her assessment taking you slightly aback. You didn't feel much overt hate towards the SS. None more than your typical hate of those brutish cowards.

"You look like you are itching to fight, to kill. I would be lying if I said that I wasn't slightly scared." Strasse nervously chuckled at the irony of a member of the Strasse family being scared of bloodshed.

"Strasse... I'm not looking for a fight, dying in combat isn't my endgame." You replied as you unslung your monitor. The rifle's weight reassuring you that you were better armed than your time in the Fallschirmjäger.

"Then what is your endgame?" Strasse asked as she looked up at you, trying to get a feeling for what drove you to be so willing to kill your countrymen.

"Simple, I want the SS to be held accountable for what they have done. You can't go around and reave entire towns of life without consequence." You replied as the assorted jeeps and motorbikes began to start their engines. You continued your explanation as you lead Strasse to the transport jeep, the one without the .50 calibre gun mounted to it.

"My focus is making sure that the SS are on the losing side of the war. Everybody should be held accountable for their actions, they are no different..." You paused as you helped Strasse into the back of the jeep, before then climbing in yourself. "...I cannot do it all by myself, and as much as I would want to kill as many SS soldiers as I could, we sometimes have to let them pass by. For the better of the mission."

Strasse nodded as she began to understand your logic. However, her response was cut off by the sound of the tiny convoy gunning it's engines, racing to reach the assault force before the attack began.

>Talk with someone (Logan/Strasse/Gilmore)

With everything that needed to be said having already being said, you decided to stay quiet for the rest of the journey to the buildup location. Instead, you kept your eye on the treeline, ever vigilant for any signs of the enemy. Strasse chose this time to lean on your shoulder, pressing her meagre body weight into you as she relaxed.

The rest of the journey took less than half an hour, the remaining parts of the journey being made off road to ensure that you didn't run into any more SS patrols. The vehicles were able to make good time through the rough terrain and the darkness. Allowing you to reach the assembly of the assault force just a few minutes behind scheduled.

As you shut down your jeep's lights and made your way closer to the force, Gilmore spoke up.

"They're not attacking... why the hell aren't they attacking?" He asked as Logan shut off the engine, silencing the jeep's tiny engine.

"Maybe they're waiting for us?" Logan suggested as everyone began to climb out of the jeep.

"Or maybe they've been routed? Or maybe they didn't reach the zone?" Gilmore suggested as he cocked back the bolt on his Sten gun.

"If that had happened then we would have heard gunfire. They're still up there, so let's not wait around for a fucking invitation." Logan replied harshly, before making his way up towards where the rest of the assault force was meant to be.

>Go with Logan, he makes a great point.

>>

>>
>>825750

>>
Before Logan could make it any further, you sighed, before barking at him in a voice just loud enough for him to hear.

"Dammit Logan we're still in enemy territory. I'll go scout first and see if something happened to the force." You prompted as you flicked the safety off your colt monitor. The beefy automatic rifle giving you more firepower than 3 men armed with the bolt-action rifles that were typical of the German Heer.

"Keep an eye on Strasse, make sure that she doesn't try and follow me." You instructed Gilmore before you took off at a jog, quickly joining Logan as the pair of you made your way deeper into the forrest.

Your scouting run didn't take the pair of you as far as you would have liked, in fact, it barely took you out of visual range of the jeeps, maybe 200 feet away from them?

Either way, you barely made it that far away when you found the assault force. The force itself was laying low, the engines of every vehicle turned off as tanks and jeeps lay in the woods. Their crews sat in defensive positions around their vehicles. If you were to hazard a guess, then you would have guessed that the infantry were further ahead, nestled in amongst the treeline.

You could have simply walked up to the rearguard of the assault force. You could have walked up behind them and given them the shock of their shortened lives. However, you decided to do the sensible thing and recover the rest of your unit.

Logan wordlessly followed you as you made your way back to the rest of your unit, the small squad having taken up positions around the transport jeep.

"So, is there anybody up there?" Gilmore asked as you returned to the unit, Strasse apparently choosing to remain in her place to avoid causing a scene.

"The gang's all here." Logan replied heartily before you could begin your explanation.

"Good, then let's move up." Gilmore concluded, the rest of the unit standing up and getting ready to move out. You took the opportunity to return to your position as Strasse's cover.

As the unit made their way to link up with the assault force, you couldn't help but feel that this would be the last assault you would ever take part in.

Then again, you had felt that feeling before.

Thanks, I tend to feel that the first 10 threads of Pilot Quest helped me get a handle on writing non-combat situations, even if it can get a bit monotonous.

"Nice to see that you finally showed up"

Major Trent turned to face you and the rest of your unit as you approached him from behind. While you were still a good dozen meters into the forest, you could still see the entrance to the Märchenland facility, the open door let out enough light that you could pick out the silhouettes of the SS guards setting up sandbags for machine gun nests.

"Kept you waiting, huh?" You asked as you stopped a few paces in front of him. The rest of your unit took this as a moment of respite before the assault.

"Unfortunately, yes." Trent passed you the weapon he was holding, from the looks of it, it was an M-1 carbine with some kind of night-vision scope. The overall layout was similar to the Vampir that you old unit used.

"Those kraut bastards are on high alert right now, and the longer we wait for them, the more time they will have to figure out what the fuck is going on." The major gestured for you to come closer and join him by his tree, which you did so.

"They've dropped the vision slits on their concealed bunkers. By our count, there is 8 active bunkers with the possibility of more lying in wait." He pointed up at the hill and you raised the rifle to look upon the hill through the scope.

While it still took you a few seconds, you could just about pick out the open firing slits of the consealed bunkers. Inside, you saw SS soldiers peeking out with machine guns at the ready.

"Now that you're here, we can get this party started." The magor gestured for you to hand the rifle back to him, which you did as he continued speaking.

"Now, while I'm sure that you want to stay back and keep your little prize safe, I'd prefer it if you sent a few of your boys to help us with the assault." The Major continued, making a point to ignore Strasse's uncomfortable squirming at being called a prize.

"What do you need?" Sergent Gilmore asked curiously as you took your weapon back into your hands.

"Frankly, I need a few boys helping with the push on the main gate. Once we force those doors to stay open, those krauts will send everything they have to keep us out." Trent paused for a couple of seconds as he looked down at the satchel charges that you were carrying. "Although... we might need someone to blow a few of their bunkers wide open. Maybe force the defenders to send people to the other breach rather than the main entrance."

Logan snorted disapprovingly. "And you don't have enough guys here?"

"That's the thing trooper. I do have ehough troops, however If I assign too many people to breach the Märchenland's defences and an enemy patrol hits our rear guard then we stand a real chance of loosing our guys in the back. That includes the AT guns and the locusts." trent summarised as a pair of soldiers ran past with a rocket launcher, headding for where the open base of the hill met the tree line.

"So you want us to split our unit to help out then?" Gilmore provided, prompting a nod from Trent.

>CONT

>>842659

"Exactly Sergeant, all I should need is a couple of men. So... any volunteers?" Trent asked your squad.

>Volunteer to attack the gates, this isn't the first assault you've taken part in.
>Volunteer to attack the bunkers, once they are dealt with, the assault force will have an easy run.
>Stay behind and cover the rear, if you loose the heavy equipment then the assault will fail.

"I'll attack the bunkers, provided that you wait for me to get into position before attacking." You spoke up first, patting one of the satchel charges that you carried.

The major nodded at you, before Logan spoke up.

"I'll help him, he'll need some cover while setting the charges." Logan stepped forward, his thompson hanging by it's strapps.

"You'll need sniper support, I'll hang back and cover you if shit goes down." Romeo said enthusiastically as he stepped forward. A couple more men joined him in stepping up, giving you a total of around 8 people, including Logan and Romeo.

"That should be more than enough, we'll wait for you to blow one of the bunkers before we open up." Trent nodded, before pointing at you. "Hans, you're the squad leader. How many people do you want going with you?"

>Just you and Logan, any more than that and you stand a better chance of being found.
>You, Logan and 2 others. That should be a reasonable number.

>>You, Logan and 2 others. That should be a reasonable number.

"It should just be me, Logan and 2 others. Any more will be too obvious, any fewer will leave us in a jam when the shooting starts." You laid out before turning to the volunteers and pointing at a pair of them. One carried a BAR while the other carried an M-1 carbine.

"Both of you will be with me and Logan." You then turned your attention to Romeo, the diminutive sniper looked slightly downbeat at not being part of your plan.

"Romeo, you will provide us with sniper cover. If we are found out then we will be relying on you to deal with the problem. Only start shooting when we do." You explained to him, he looked up at you and smiled as he nodded.

"I'll stay back with a few more guys and deal with Strasse. We'll make sure that nothing happens to her." Gilmore spoke up, before then nodding at you.

"Good luck Berkhard." Gilmore bid you luck as he offered you a hand. You grinned and shook it as you thanked him. And with that, you and the rest of your fire team made your way up towards the bunker complex.

The trek was meant to be over a short distance, but the journey was made considerably longer by having to crawl up the hill on your belly, stopping and starting as SS patrols went past.

As you got closer however, you noticed that hidden amongst the rocks were what looked like camouflaged cannon barrels, and while it looked kind of like a consealed gun battery, you weren't sure.

You did have 3 demolitions charges, so you could spare one...

>Rig up a demolition charge to it anyways, you can never be too sure.
>Leave it for now, you should use your charges on confirmed targets.
>>
>>843203
>>Rig up a demolition charge to it anyways, you can never be too sure.
>>
"Hold up, I'm setting a charge." You whispered just loud enough for your section to hear as you put your rifle down and unslung one of your demolition charges.

The demolition charge was essentially a standard issue satchel packed full of plastic explosives. You carried 3 such packs and they were not to dissimilar to the charges that you had been trained with while you were a part of the Fallschirmjäger. Rigging the charge up was a fairly simple affair, it required simply sticking a blasting cap into each stick of explosives and fitting the blasting caps with wires.

As soon as you were finished with rigging up the dettonators, you then placed the charge into position and began to unwind the wires as you went.

Your next port of call for demolition was one of the bunkers. From what you could hear inside, there were 3 soldiers inside. You carefully rigged up the demolition charge and placed it gently up against the exterior face of the bunker's wall.

Halfway towards the 2nd and final bunker, you stopped in your tracks and got down. An act that your comrades mirrored as they saw what was approaching you.

A small SS patrol was passing in between you and the second bunker. The pair waited for a couple seconds, before then stopping and taking out cigarettes and what looked slightly like a tin of chocolates.

"What's the plan Eugen? We taking them out or what?" Logan asked calmly from just beside you.

>Take them out silently, use your knives.
>Take them out loudly, shoot the fucks.
>Try and sneak around them.
>Wait for them to pass.

"We'll try and sneak around them." You whispered to your section, before then taking your knife out of your boot as a precaution, you then held the knife in your right hand while you trailed the wires behind you with your left hand.

You crawled past them slowly as the pair talked in hushed tones.

"Hey, Bertraum. Do you know hat happens down in the research sections?" One of the SS soldiers asked the other as you stopped to wait for your comrades to pass.

"Honestly? I've been posted down there may times and even I can't give you a consistent answer. All of the rooms are soundproofed so you can barely hear anything." The other soldier began as he shifted uncomfortably on his feet.

"But you've been there, do you know if the rumours are true?" The first soldier asked persistently. The soldier known as Bertraum was silent for a couple of seconds, before then speaking again in a hushed tone.

"It's... it's frankly terrefying, not because of the unnatural nature of the whole occult studies sector, or how people enter the bio-mechanics wing and never return. It's the silence that gets me, the unnerving silence is just too much sometimes." Bertraum explained in an almost haunted tone, the pair were silent for a couple more seconds, before then speaking again.

"Now come on, we are late." At that, the pair turned away and them jogged away, leaving time for you and the rest of your unit to continue to the last bunker.

This bunker was larger than the last one, you could see the large barrel of what looked like a large calibre autocannon poking through the firing slit. And just like the first bunker, you placed your charge against the exterior face of the bunker's wall.

As soon as you were done wiring up the charge, you then drew out the detonation wires to their fullest lengths as you made to get as far up-hill of the bunkers as possible. And when the wires were at the extent of their lengths, you rigged them all up to a detonator box.

"Are you all ready?" You asked your section once you finished affixing the wires. You looked back in time to see Logan nod at you in the dark.

"We're good, blow it." Logan nodded at you,

And with a single, 90* twist and a single push, 3 demolitions charges went off as one, marking the opening shots of the assault.

Operation Silver Bullet had just gone loud.

Sorry I couldn't really participate. Lots of shit I had to do.

How's the Pacific Theater looking? Is the Reich keeping the mad superscience for itself?
>>
>>844045
The pacific is a stalemate, the battle of midway ended with the IJN loosing 3 carriers while the USN lost 1 carrier and midway island with the other 2 carriers being badly mauled. Since then it's been a number of running battles as each side fights for supremacy. Most of the combat is supply warfare as the USN and IJN deploy subs to target enemy transport ships, thus requiring each side to assign warships to convoy escort duties.

As far as Berkhard knows, there is nothing fishy going on. But there may be files relating to Japan in the facility, you'd have to look.

How are things with the Italians and Spainish?
