“Hello? ...Yea everything is going great so far, Melody is fine. What I wanted to ask you is whenever or not you got us that ticket out of this crazy city. ...W-What? You can’t!? What do you mean you can’t!? You’re one of the Wyld Hunters! Your rank alone sh- ...You aren’t allowed to leave either!? How does that even work!? ...So they’d let you die over pulling you off the island? ...I don’t have any augmentations though! How do... Look OK, I know you’re trying just... I’ve heard of the military finding one of those damn nest just three blocks from here. I’m scared that in a few days we’ll have no where left to go. ...I know you’ll do your best to protect us, just with the military stretched thin, how busy you are, how frequently you go out on deployments even in the city, and how fast these things kill people I seriously have my doubts that you’ll get here in time. ...Thanks, I appreciate it. ...Yea I’ll stay away from that area for the time being as well. Just when this is all over you’re wearing those tight pants for me again. ...You know the ones! Alright honey, I’ll see you later. Bye bye.”

Your eyes zoom back to normal distance after seeing the silhouette of Doctor Ledeel’s boyfriend finish his conversation. “Thanks for helping me set up the listening post Osvald. I’ve been wanting to keep my eye on Ledeel’s own family for some time now.”

“Setting up a listening post is beneficial for all of us. While the chances are slight, its still quite possible that Ledeel could leak valuable information to her lover.” Osvald says as he ever so slightly adjust the small dish about the size of one’s palm towards his room. “Legally they’re not a family nor a couple in e-”

“You know what I mean.” you say cutting off Osvald before he gets too technical.

“You also want to save them yourselves if they’re in trouble correct?” Osvald asks you.

“And what makes you think that?” you ask Osvald, turning towards him.

“My estimates show that you have an 82.175 percent chance of doing so if the situation would arrive and none of us were in immediate danger.” Osvald says as he stands up. “Your personality is naturally arrogant but you try to temper it with humility. Often you try to push others away until they’ve had a chance to prove themselves or because you feel that your status often alienates you from others.”

“What point are you trying to get at?” you ask Osvald.

“I’m saying that you help people because you believe it is the right thing to do. You collected those interviews on Zanna and Alvin even though you did not have to. For that I believe a reward should be in order.” Osvald states.

You give a small sigh and wave your hand. “I was in the same area as them at the time, it was hardly any inconvenience to me.”

“I believe that a deed performed on my behalf should come with some sort of benefit to the other party.” Osvald explains. “Therefore I am willing to part with one of my expendable items.”

“Expendable items?” You ask.

“Yes, I have both several small Sub-Tanks and E-Tanks. I’d be willing to part with one as part of a reward.” Osvald tells you.

- Select the Sub-Tank S (Restore 3 health levels upon use, then +1 additional lethal level for each success on a stamina + Resistance roll)

>What is this quest?

Alchemical Blade Prequel Quest, a quest set in the Modern version of Creation from the Exalted setting, focusing on how the robotic Alchemical Exalted came to be within the setting. If you love hints of Cyberpunk and high action quests, then you may enjoy this quest.

>Who are we?

The quest is mainly going to be played out in flashbacks, in which during the flashbacks we take control of the Moonsilver caste Alchemical Exalted Junpaku Hibiki, while in the current time you play as “Anonymous”. The game will take place within the city of Versino within the central continent of Creation Meruvia. Labelled as a dangerous and murderous science experiment gone rogue, you need to evade forces of the mightiest army within Creation sprinkled with the powerful Elemental supersoldiers known as the Dragonblooded, trying to find out who is responsible for what you’ve become and how to escape their clutches once and for all.

>Alchemical? Moonsilver? I don’t know anything about Exalted, much less Modern Exalted...

I’ve made this quest to be as friendly to newbies as possible, and I also see it as an introductory guide to the World of Modern Exalted. You can google “1d4chan Exalted” for information on the general vanilla setting, but what I’ll be using is the Modern Version of Exalted as shown in “Shards of the Exalted Dream” book, in where its Alchemicals are quite different than those of Vanilla Exalted. Feel free to ask any question about Exalted in the thread and I will do my best to answer it.

>System?

Dicepool system. When performing an action, everyone rolls a number of d10’s based on what the action is (I will list the pools for most actions, but if you want to have a roll for an action, ask and I’ll make the dicepool for it). The first roll is the one that’ll be used, but if someone makes another roll for a different action and more people vote for that, I’ll be using that one instead.

>This seems hella complicated, is there any way you can boil things down for me?

>XP?

Favored Attributes cost 4 XP per dot to increase (Underlined on stat sheet when released) while non-favored ones cost 5 XP. Abilities themselves cost 3 XP per dot to increase naturally. All charms cost 6 XP per purchase with Dedicated slots costing 4 XP each and General ones costing 6 XP each. At the end of every “mission” (In game objectives set by either me or some goal the audience desires) you will be presented with a possible acquisition list of charms. Experience can also be gained by developing the character, learning about the world, or just in general things people find interesting.

“I’ll take the sub tank.” you reply to Osvald after a few seconds of consideration.

A hatch opens on the side of Osvald’s right arm, taking out a thick syringe filled with a grey paste. “Do you know of the last few locations for the transmitters and how to set them up?”

“Yea I made a text file of it in my memory, plus these things are hardly that complicated.” you reply shifting the backpack on your shoulders.

“There is no rush to put them up so long as they’re active before dawn.” Osvald tells you.

“They’ll be up a long time before then.” you tell Osvald looking around at the night sky around you. “Personally I want to finish this and get to bed as soon as possible.”

“I’ll leave you to your task then.” Osvald gives a small nod as his body shimmers before fading from sight. You eye him for a few moments before he hops off the edge of the building.

“...Alright then Hibiki, time fo-”

INCMING TRNS: MOCHIRE[/spoiler]

Raising your eye for a second, you quickly patch Mochire through to you. “Mochire, is something wrong?”

“I’m not being shot at if that’s what you mean.” Mochire replies. “How goes setting up the communication relays? Osvald won’t let me touch them since my static electricity fries their circuits.”

“I’m amazed you made it this far in life without cell phones.” you reply.

“Instant Messenger Hibiki! Best way to get your rantings across anywhere in Creation! ...Also rubber coating and styluses, those work too.” Mochire replies on the other end.

“What are you calling for then Mochire?” you ask.

“What? Can’t a friend call his ninja friend without getting interrogated?” Mochire asks on the other end.

“It just seems unusual for you to call me out of the blue like this.” you reply.

“Well... OK it involves two things. First is before you set up the transmitters I’d like for you to meet some friends of mine. Trust me they’re cool us with.” Mochire replies. “They even noticed me that the military is heavily patrolling the areas where the relays are supposed to go.”

“Heavy military? I’ll give Wendy or Osvald a call then, s-”

“NONONONO! Don’t call Wendy! Wendy doesn’t need to know of this!” Mochire replies on the other end of the call. “Just... come see my friends first and you’ll see what I mean.”

- “...Mochire what are you planning.”

“Wendy does have a stick up her ass quite often... Tell me where you are and I’ll be there shortly.” you reply.

“Perfect! OK the location’s at 11203 67th Street, you’ll be able to tell its the building you’re looking for as it looks like a crackhouse.” Mochire replies.

“...Mochire.” you warn him, not liking where this is going.

“Oh yea! When you do arrive, just make sure you approach some of the guards uncloaked. I’ve given them your general description, and the last thing I want happening is the entire base going on full alert because you’re having a giggle running around while cloaked. See ya soon!” Mochire says as he hangs up the call.

You give a small sigh as you shake your head as you engage your own cloak. “This is going to be a terrible idea isn’t it...”

******

As you head towards the location using your GPS map, you can see that you’re in one of the seedier parts of the city once again. Neon graffiti lines the walls alongside the boarded up windows. Even if a national emergency wasn’t happening you still wouldn’t be shocked to find these streets barren of life itself.

As you approach the building Mochire told you of, you can see that it appears more like a grey box of a building, paint having been peeled off years ago. Two garage doors can be seen down below while windows on the building appear to be only be half boarded up.

“What is this...?” you ask as you zoom into the building, looking at each of the floors. Looking down at the entrance you can see a pair of heavy red metal push doors blocking the way into the building but no one on the other side. Looking up at the third floor, your system quickly highlights a man hidden from view, looking down the street wearing camouflaged clothing while holding a rifle in his hands. A quick scan reveals several other people doing the same thing.

“Mochire did your dumb ass get kidnapped? Who’d actually have the capability to capture an Alchemicals, a gang like this shouldn’t even remotely have that kind of capability, but if it isn’t a trap why didn’t you try and get all of us to the location?” you mutter to yourself as you look over the building.

- Do as Mochire asks, approach the front uncloaked and ask to be let in.

- Something seems wrong. Enter from the roof and look around a bit inside.

>>- Do as Mochire asks, approach the front uncloaked and ask to be let in.

You give a small sigh as you leap down from the building, disengaging your cloak on the way down. You doubt this is gremlin trap as you would’ve seen more activity in the area while a military trap is also ruled out as those men in the windows hardly looked like military professionals. Ruling out the two most dangerous objects right off the bat, you shimmer back into view as you head towards the front door, giving it several hard knocks.

A slit on the door opens up, showing a man in a bandana around his face, his worried eyes looking over your body. . “...Can I help you?” he asks a few seconds later.

“Mochire told me I was coming.” you reply to him.

Without a word the porthole closes, sounds of multiple locks on the door can be heard coming undone before the door is opened wide, a man wearing a bandana around his face and a hood over his head. Your HUD’s how a possible bulge in his pants indicates a hidden gun. “Yea he’s just up here, this way.”

You give a mental sigh to yourself as you’re lead into the building itself while another closes the door behind you. Rows of room as you walk by them are makeshift bedrooms with mattresses scattered across the floor with no light overhead, the only a single commons room later on with a pool table a television displaying static on the side of the wall. As you approach the end of the hall, two men in red clothing, even covering their faces, can be seen standing on the other end, one of the reading a book while the other watches you wearily, both of them not having any guns for some reason.

“Boss, she’s here.” the gang member says knocking on the door.

“Good good! Send her in!” a man with a deep voice on the other end of the door says.

As the door opens up, you can see what appears to be a small office room. Mochire and some other green haired man with a tattoo’d smile on his face can be seen looking towards you, while behind the desk that shows two other guards in red clothing can be seen standing behind a desk, where the one sitting behind it appears to be a man with skin nearly as white as yours, only that his hair appears to be a miniature storm cloud that seems to light up with miniature bolts of thunder, the smell of O-zone thick in the air.

“Welcome Shinobi to our little hideout. Mochire has told us much about you.” the storm haired man sitting behind the desk says to you. “My name is Tempesta, Northern God of Thunderstorms.”

Your eyes immediately start towards Mochire.

“Hibiki, wait I can explain.” Mochire says holding his hand up towards you defensively.

- “Elemental Terrorists working out of a drug point? Mochire what the hell is this!?”

- “You have 10 seconds to explain, the first two have just past.”

“Elemental Terrorists working out of a drug dropoff point!? Mochire what the hell is this!?” you say pointing a finger towards him in warning.

Both Mochire and the man sitting next to him recoil a bit in shock. “Hi-Hibiki I know how you must feel but please calm down!”

“That’s it you go out!” A thug behind you says, attempting to reach out for you with his hands.

Without a second thought, you grab the thug by his collar and flip him down towards the ground in and over the shoulder throw, immediately getting on top of him of him after as three silver and gold claws come out from in between your knuckles.

The two red guards quickly get into a stance, their hands consumed with flame before Tempesta holds up his hands to stop him. “Shinobi, I understand your surprise, and I’ll preface my conversation with you by saying that so long as my men are unharmed than you’re free to walk out at any time you wish. I merely invited you here because I feel we have a... mutual interest at heart after our discussions with Mochire.”

You look down on the thugs face below you, few in his eyes as you’re sure he also wet himself looking at your faceplate. “...Which is?” you ask climbing off of the relieved gang member.

“As of right now all of you are unable to actually leave the island. The Northern court of air has many specialities, one of which is our smuggling network.” Tempesta says to you.

“So you’re saying you can smuggle us out of the island?” you ask in semi-disbelief.

“At least when our tracking devices are gone. Hibiki don’t you know what this means? It means we can escape.” Mochire tells you.

“It's as Mochire says. Disabling your tracking devices is the first step, but even when that happens you’re still on an island that’s completely surrounded. We have a plan where, when the time comes, we’ll be able to evacuate select personnel off the island. If you cooperate with us, then it won’t be a problem to include all of you in that plan as well.” Tempesta casually tells you.

“Why would I want to help people who spread human misery around not just the city but this entire world, from selling drugs to random terror attacks?” you ask.

“Hibiki please!” Mochire pleads with you, the sound of panic in his voice.

“No it is alright Mochire, they spent their entire lives brainwashed by their government and media. Her only real crime is ignorance.” Tempesta says standing up, wearing a dark grey hoodie with faded grey pants. “Hibiki, I will not object for doing questionable things in the past, even now we’re doing things which seem questionable to most people. I see it as trying to provide entertainment to the masses which are very quickly going to be deprived of most other entertainment options, with us providing one of the only ways left for others to enjoy themselves. However right now we share a common enemy Hibiki...”
>>
[2/2]

“The Meruvian Government.” you reply.

“Correct. We won’t ask you to do anything like a drop off for us, as obviously you’re not going to sign up for it. What we’re looking for is something mutually beneficial for us all, a way for us to coordinate our forces in the face of the monsters that followed you out of the Heptagram.” Tempesta replies.

Your eyes wide upon realizing what he means. “You want to use our own communications network don’t you?”

Tempesta gives a slight nod upon hearing this. “That is correct.”

You give a look of sheer disbelief towards Mochire. “No wonder you didn’t want Wendy or Osvald to hear this, if they found out about this than both of them would’ve torn this place apart.”

“Yea... Wendy would’ve enacted that scene from the old The Nullifier movie...” Mochire says with a worried expression on his face.

- “I’m not going to share a communication network with someone who actively conducts terror attacks on innocent civilians. How do I know you’re not going to use this network to harm anyone?”

- “Why should I even help you in the short term? Aren’t you luddites who shun technology?”

- “What does Mochire have to do with any of this?”

[1/3]

“What does Mochire have to do with any of this?” you ask.

“Mochire is one of us my dear.” Tempesta replies.

“Wait what!?” you ask in sheer disbelief.

“No, it's true. I’m originally from Halta myself, lived directly on the border with Linowa. Constantly battle and fearing for your life everyday, I was originally a child soldier given a gun, pointed at people, and told that if I did a good job I’d get food and a place to sleep that night.” Mochire says lowering his head in shame. “It wasn’t until Tempesta’s forces scouted me out, claimed I had a talent for the arcane. They shipped me up to the Elemental Court of Air soon after that, where I swore an oath the God of the Northern Lights, where he then bestowed a fraction of his might upon me.”

Many thoughts go through your head upon hearing this, seeing Mochire’s viewpoint where he knew only conflict since the beginning of his life, any offer the courts must’ve made to him must’ve seemed like paradise in comparison. “What about your side of the story then? We’re the ones brainwashed? It doesn’t seem like that with the cultish behavior the rest of your group shares at times.”

“To explain everything in detail dear Hibiki would take far too long, but I can give some of the shorter versions of them.” Tempesta says as leans back onto his desk, opening his hand to show a floating map in his hands, a small arc of flickering lighting showing the borders between what appears to be Halta and Linowa. “Tell me Hibiki, do you know why the conflict between Halta and Linowa and the The Hundred Nations exists to this very day?”

“From what I remember, it involves territorial disputes. Linowans, the original natives of the East, demanded their own nation after the Guild occupation and subjugation of their native territory. When the UN gave them that land it was regarded within Haltan territory, which the Linowans pushed them out. However since the Haltan’s had strong ties with Elemental Terrorists the UN did not recognize them as a nation.” you reply. “As for The Hundred Nations, mainly its territorial and natural resource disputes.”

“You are very well educated young Shinobi, but what they taught you is a lie.” Tempesta says as sparks of electricity simulate artillery being flung on both sides of the borders. “The wars in both of those lands are only sustained because it is the will of the true world government.”

“True world government? Something tells me you don’t mean the UN.” you reply to Tempesta.
>>
[2/3]

“The UN is nothing but a puppet show put on to appease the masses. The Builderberg Group, The Freemasons, The Illuminati, Majestic 12... They’ve had many names over the years, but the thing they all have in common is that these are the people that decide the course of nations and the world. Building up their power bases and having wars with each other all to suit their own ambitious little desires.” Tempesta says as the map slowly wafts away into thin air. “These are also the exact same people that authorized and funded the experiments that lead to what you and Mochire are right now. Man made supersoldiers, abominations of the highest degree and a symbol of their arrogance.”

“Do you have a single piece of evidence to back any of that up?” you ask.

“No, and I understand this is a big pill to swallow. I merely told you my own viewpoint, you’re welcome to find the evidence to my claims if you so desire.” Tempesta says.

“"How can you prove that you're going to turn over a new leaf, so to speak, that you won’t use this communication network for ill?" you ask Tempesta. “...Or better yet, why do you even want to use this network? Aren’t you and group luddites?”

Tempesta gives a hearty laugh as he hears the words coming out from your mouth. “I can see how that is from the outside... Yes our group advocates for small governments. A nation with a population with hundreds of millions of people will feel a large disconnect from the powers that govern it. Modern technology helps, but it can never replace human intimacy or familiarity, thus one of our goals is returning to a simpler time when people were happier with their leaders. As for the technology, it is a mixed reaction. When the powers that be shaped the world they caused an untold genocide of most of the spirits in the world over the centuries. Literal untold billions of gods perished in the wake of these technological reforms, not only losing their purpose but their very existence being denied by reality when large scale changes to reality were made. We also don’t use technology that often as near the elemental poles themselves, our home base, different laws of physics govern them, so the majority of your modern technology does not work there.”

“You didn’t answer the first part.” you warn sternly.

“That’s because I answered it earlier. No, as of right now we have no reason to attack any civilians, and any who do so meet with me personally. The goal of the Elemental Courts since day one has been to show humanity that there’s a better way, and we won’t do that if we go around killing people.” Tempesta says turning around towards a window and opening the blinds on it, showing the pillars of smoke rising up against the city nightlights. “Our goals here are to sustain ourselves, help people, destroy the abominations you call ‘gremlins’, and if possible giver the Meruvian government a black eye.”

- “You’re conducting raids against the military and gremlins? With the forces you got here now? At the poles it may be different, but here bullets tend to go through people’s vital organs.”

- “...So does that mean you’ll help us?”

"I assume that you know that the military was prepared for this, but didn't directly intervene to stop our escape?" you ask.

“You are very new to the concept of their maneuvering it seems.” Tempesta replies.

“What’s that supposed to mean? That when you fight your opponents they often know the future?” you ask in a half jest.

“Correct.” Tempesta says without a hint of irony in his voice.

“You’re lying! How can one predict the future to such an extent!?” you exclaim.

“The secret lines within the stars and whose who can read them. If you can read the stars than one is capable of reading the future, which is interwoven into the very fabric of fate itself.” Tempesta replies. “As much as you wish free will to exist, for most mortals in this world it does not. Every single one of them are assigned a destiny at birth. The same thing applies to groups of people or even nations, all are intertwined. This is woven within the very fabric of Creation itself, and we who dwell outside of Creation are not part of Creation’s design. While this makes our actions difficult to guess, looking for large scale future disruptions is a rather easy thing to do.”

“So you’re saying the military knew about this happening!?” you exclaim in shock.

“From the size of the conflict, they probably knew about weeks ago.” Tempesta replies.

“That’s absurd! Even the most powerful computers in the world wouldn’t be able to predict such a thing in their simulations! The amount of data needed for such inputs is far too vast! Even our companion Wizzkid would’ve never been able to guess such a thing if the roles were reversed for him!” you yell out in shock, referencing Osvald by his codename.

“Again you don’t need to accept this, I’m just merely telling the truth.” Tempesta replies.

Your mind is mentally breaking down from trying to process all of this. The sheer fact that John Doe could’ve not only seen this when you first went down to capture Doctor Trine, but rather long before you even went down to Sub Basement 8? You’re trying to piece together how this makes sense, but your mind is screaming at you that this goes beyond common sense. You’d label Tempesta and everyone involved with him a tinfoil hat candidate a month ago, but after seeing all that you’ve seen that small crack of doubt in your mind just widened into a fissure miles wide.

Mochire stands up from his spot, walking over to you and placing his hand on your shoulder. “I know this is a lot to take in Shinobi. I was the same way when I first learned it myself. If this still confuses you I can explain it to you later.”

You give your head a small shake, burying your current doubts and endless cycles of thought down for the time being. “So that means for the time being you’ll help us?”
>>
[2/2]

“Yes, and I’m hoping you’ll see the benefit in being allies with us as well.” Tempesta replies. “We were caught normally under-equipped, but we still have ample supplies and information to give. Furthermore we have sorcerous items which you also may find useful.”

“Since you’re from the North I assume you know of Doctor Ledeel, one of the Wyld Hunters.” you ask.

“We’ve cross paths with her and her companions several times yes.” Tempesta replies.

“I know of your ‘methods’, and one of the conditions I want to lay down is that you leave her family alone.” you reply.

For a just a moment, you can see Tempesta furrow his brows before his face goes back to normal. “A bit of a drawback, but done. We won’t harm her family, however if you’re asking us to go easy on her th-”

“That won’t be necessary. She’d be trying to kill you, and last time even I had to go full out against her just to keep up.” you reply.

There's something about Tempesta you really don't trust yourself regardless how much Mochire trusts him. However Tempesta himself seems to have far more knowledge than you do of how this... organization that John Doe is a part of works. With his aid you could unravel this conspiracy far faster...

- “Fine, I’ll agree to it. If you’re caught by Wizzkid or our gun-happy soulsteel friend than that’ll be your own fault.”

- “I refuse. You know why? Because I don’t trust you. The North is a no fly zone because of the thunderstorms you purposefully put in the way of airplanes, and being a god of Northern Storms you either personally have a hand in it or are willfully ignorant of the deaths of hundreds. The chance to learn additional information about the foe you’re now facing can’t be passed up. If Tempesta is telling the truth about leaving civilians out of it, than more good is bound to come out of this deal.

“Fine, I’ll agree to it. If you’re caught by Wizzkid or our gun-happy soulsteel friend however than that’ll be your own fault.” you warn Tempesta.

“That’s fair, I didn’t expect everyone in your group to be on board with this plan in the first place.” Tempesta says before turning to Mochire. “You know what you need to do right?”

“Yes, I shall summon the spark sprites into the network themselves. Once in place they’ll make sure the relay is open to us as well.” Mochire says with a small nod.

“Good, I’ll be sure to live up to my end of the bargain in exchange.” Tempesta replies with a nod back as well. “Good luck out there Mochire.”

“Mochire, please be careful out there. I mean you just got back.” the man with the clown face says next to Mochire.

Mochire places his hand on his shoulder, giving a small nod towards him. “Relax, nothing killed me in Sub Basement 8 and I’ll have another Alchemical with me for support. You have nothing to worry about.”

With a small sigh both you and Mochire are then guided out by two gang members in hoodies to outside of the building. Mochire walking sheepishly behind you for nearly a block before he finally speaks up and breaks the silence.

“So... Talk about an awkward first encounter with what counts as family right!?” Mochire says trying to jest.

“Its no wonder you stayed silent when we were with that other gang. If they knew they would’ve shot you.” you reply turning around to Mochire.
>>
[2/2]

“Yea well...” Mochire gives a small sigh. “Look it's something I don’t exactly bring up to everyone. I owe them my life for saving my own and I believe in their cause. I think they go a bit too far at times, but they’re nice people overall.”

“Nice people, Mochire they down civilian airplanes to make a point.” you retort to him.

“Those are mostly the Storm Mothers! They hate everyone who’s prettier than them going through their territory, and have you ever seen a storm mother!?” Mochire protests.

“They censor them on television.” you reply.

“And they’re doing you a favor by doing that, trust me.” Mochire says with a nod, before going back and rubbing the back of his neck. “Look, I care for each and every one of you as well, and as horrible as Sub Basement 8 was, it let me do some heavy soul searching in that regard, and out of everyone in our group I always felt that I’ve gotten along with both Father Marcellius and you. Father Marcellius seemed like the father I never had, while for you I feel that you can be a stone cold bitch at times but was surprised with how caring you can actually be at times. I just don’t want my past to cause any friction between us you know...”

- “Mochire, by your own admission you lived through hell and back. If I was in your shoes I would’ve done the exact same thing.”

- “I like you as a person too Mochire and wouldn’t hesitate to call you a friend. I know those people back there are the closest to what you’d consider a family, but something about Tempesta... he gave me a bad feeling.”

“A bad feeling? What of?” Mochire asks.

"Like he's going to try to work around it or is already has something in place to do so.” you reply.

“Tempesta gets worried glances from most of the other gods in the area, but he’s usually pretty dependable. Generally he only goes back on his word if you’re the one to do it first.” Mochire replies casually, waving it off as its no big deal.

“That’s hardly reassuring.” you reply as you turn around towards the first beacon you need to put up. “Come on, the first beacon is actually near this location.”

“Cool, makes it easier to travel at least.” Mochire says as he walks next to you.

“So what sort of ‘reward’ was promised to you?” you ask Mochire as you walk down the street.

“I noticed a few Alchemicals done in the basement capable of performing the levels of sorcery normally only reserved for Gods and their chosen ones. After the initial shock wore off I wondered if I was capable of doing it, but didn’t exactly want to volunteer.” Mochire says.

“Let me guess. They didn’t want the powerful ones living for that long.” you say turning around the block, seeing the streets empty once again.

“You got it. Those Alchemicals were often killed before Calibration or the new years without fail. Call me crazy, but I actually have a thing called a self-preservation instinct.” Mochire says in a voice sounding as if he’s trying to imply something.

“You and me both.” you say standing in front of a third story building. “Hold onto me for a second.”

Mochire hops onto your back from behind. “Going up.”

Power is rerouted to the muscle fibers in your legs and suit, causing them to tense up to unbelievable forces as it glows in barely contained power, but cutting the power flow to them, your legs sending you sailing up into the air and landing onto the nearby roof where Mochire steps off. “Do you think Tempesta will seriously teach you?” you ask as you pull out the first communications relay.

“Doubt him all you want Hibiki, but he’s saved my life more than once and gods tend to be on good terms with all their sorcerers. It it means having a hand to destroy the Meruvian military, than yes I wholeheartedly believe he’s going to do it.” Mochire replies in a semi-angry tone as he keeps an eye out over the city.

Mochire seems agitated with the recent question, so you decide to change the subject. “Who was that clown faced guy you were sitting next to?”

“Oh that’s Glen, he’s my significant other.” Mochire replies as you continue to set up the relay. “Before Meruvia we were together for about a year, he even came here to look for me after the Meruvian military captured me.”

“Oh that’s sweet of him.” you reply, wishing your last ex would’ve done something similar.

Mochire has a small chuckle after hearing you speak. “Sweet? That doesn’t sound like something you’d say Hibiki.”

“What? I’m a girl, girls say things like that.” you say carefully inserting the dish.

“Really? I could’ve been fooled when I saw you in your swimsuit at t-”

“Finish that sentence and I’ll show you how well I can cut carrots with a sword.” you threaten Mochire as you finish putting together the communications relay. “All yours.”

“Stand back and watch the master at work.” Mochire says cracking his fingers, kneeling down in front of the communications relay.
>>
[2/3]

Holding his hands out and taking a few deep breaths, Mochire begins to mutter some strange words in an unknown language that you’ve never heard of before, a small spark flying in between in his hands as purple lines begin to glow on his own arms. After about a minute, the spark then shoots towards the communications relay.

“...That’s it?” you ask.

“That’s it.” Mochire replies before looking towards you. “Not all my spells are super flashy you know.”

“Forgive me for thinking otherwise after I’ve seen flaming phoenix's come out from your hands.” you reply as turn around towards the roof once again, Mochire hopping onto your back as you land on the ground and head towards the next communications relay, running across the ground with blazing speed towards the high rises in the distance. “Just how deep are you involved with your little group back there?”

“We may seem like anarchists, but the gods are super particular about hierarchy and ranking. Before I was captured in a drug bust, I’d guess I was a lieutenant or something if you wanted a rank you could relate to. People who could cast sorcery are rare, but above me would be the combat related spirits or those who have been empowered to awaken their essence by the gods themselves.” Mochire replies as he hangs onto your back as you leap onto another rooftop.

“So like those Exigents in the Great Forks?” you ask.

“Oh no not nearly that powerful, Exigents are the personal chosen of the gods themselves and are treated like royalty. Usually what I meant is that a god might embue your body with an element in order to awaken your latent supply of essence. Think of it like... a Gensai from old tabletop games.” Mochire replies.

“I don’t play those.” you reply, leaping up a row of multistory buildings as if they were stairs.

“Oh right I forgot, you hate fun like Wendy.” Mochire chides.

“You know it hikikomori.” you reply back, landing on the side of a nearby skyscraper and begin running up it fully speed.

“Hey! I got out quite often! If anything I’m an otaku!” Mochire replies, his grip around your neck so hard that he’d be choking you if you didn’t have to breathe. With a landing on the roof of the skyscraper, Mochire let’s go of your neck.

“Have you fought the people that Tempesta mentioned?” you ask Mochire.

“No, not at my level. See at my level we’re mainly responsible for more of the underlying base, rather than the big picture things.” Mochire tells you. “Recruiting, scouting, selling merchandise, things like that. They often teach sorcery to those in charge as it places us at a big advantage when you can turn an entire football field of people in hamburger meat.”
>>
[3/3]

“I can only imagine so.” you reply as you begin to set up the next relay.

“Still... Back when were escaping from Sub Basement 8, I saw the body switch that John Doe pulled as well. That honestly isn’t the first time I’ve seen it.” Mochire replies as he keeps watch over the edge of the building.

“What!? Really!?” you say turning around in shock.

“Yea, back when I was captured I was sure I shot like some sort of special agent, but when I check m-” Mochire stops speaking before pushing you out of the way, immediately opening his hand up and firing a blast of light from it, looking at where he fired, you can see a flaming pile of scrap fall off the skyscraper.

“Oh shit...” you mutter as you begin looking off into the distance. “...Two attack helicopters, coming in from the West side.”

“Shit we need to get out of here!” Mochire says in a panic.

“Mochire said it has to be this building, otherwise the coverage won’t be complete!” you curse to yourself.

“Other Alchemicals aside ourselves depend on us getting this up, we make our stand here!” you tell Mochire as you rush back towards the communications relay. “Shoot down any incoming missiles while I set this up!”

“Hurry the hell up then! These things are coming in fast!” Mochire says as his hands begin to glow in an aura of bluish-purple neon energy.

As you head down to the comms relay and quickly begin putting it together, the sounds of Mochire firing off his laser blasts can be heard nearby, the sounds of explosions filling the air next to you. As you screw in the dish, the loose pebbles on the roof fly off into your face as an large bang only fills your ears with painful ringing sensation. Turning quickly towards Mochire, you can see yelling at you, but you can’t make out what he’s saying exactly.

You point Mochire towards the communications relay, jumping in front of Mochire and slowly pulling out your Kaze No Ken as you face down the two helicopters hovering the air.

“This is Knight 4 for Blue King, we have Shinobi in sight.” you can hear the radio chatter in front of you.

“Roger that Knight 4, you are clear to engage.” the woman dispatcher on the other end of the line says.

COMBAT TUTORIAL: AERIAL OPPONENTS

Aerial opponents are opponents that can attack you while in remaining in the air. Without a ranged weapon, Hibiki’s only real option against these threats is leaping up towards them and smacking them. There are charms later on that allows one to hover in place while engaging aerial opponents, while a grapple gambit against an aerial target allows one to attack it repeatedly without falling down back to earth, possibly even divebombing it!

You take a deep breath, focusing deeply inwards on yourself as electricity starts to arc off of you and towards the nearby rooftop air conditioning units. Grabbing your blade and drawing it it in one swift motion a razor edged streak of wind races towards the nearest helicopter, slicing an air conditioning unit in two as it races towards the nearby attack helicopter. The helicopter just barely dodging it itself as the blade of wind tears a large gouge in the side of of it, dashing out from the safety of the Air conditioning units, you then then make a spinning slash in midair, two more wind blades curving towards the second helicopter, two blades of wind racing towards it, curving in midair before slicing off the exhaust pipes of the second and just cutting into the armour of its tail end section, causing it to shake in midair.

(Hibiki attacks Attack Helicopter 1 dealing 11 initiative damage, crashing it!)

(Hibiki attacks Attack Helicopter 2 dealing 11 initiative damage, crashing it!)

“Holy shit it's fast!” you hear the radio chatter from the second helicopter.

“Blue King this is Knight 4, we’re refocusing our efforts on Shinobi, over.” The first attack Helicopter says as it begins to ascend higher up in the air, opening fire on you with its heavy machine gun below. Hails of highly accurate machine gun fire rain down on top of you. As you dart back in between the high conditioning units once more, you manage to deflect a few shots from the first helicopter, but unable to handle the barrage from the second a few bullets manages to hit your armour.

(Assault Helicopter 1 attacks Hibiki and misses! Assault Helicopter 2 attacks Hibiki for 6 withering damage!)

“Knight 4 this is Rook 9, heading to your location right now with reinforcements. ETA 30 seconds.” another intercom chatter can be heard from the helicopter in front of you.
>>
[2/2]

Looking behind you can see a VTOL troop carrier heading towards your location at full speed. A fast, mobile troop transported loaded with very high power weapons.

“Mochire, finish up what you’re doing RIGHT NOW!” you order him as you quickly continue to dart back and forth between the air conditioners.

“I’m trying but things like this can’t be rushed!” Mochire yells back, sparks flittering in between his hands as vents open up on his body to expel purple sparkling exhaust.

You scramble behind a nearby air conditioning unit, ducking out of sight for both helicopters before you grip your sword in tense anticipation.

“...Mochire, get down on the ground.” you warn him being taking another small breath to calm yourself. “Alright... here goes nothing.”

You take the inner latent within you, sending it all towards your blade where wind begins to howl and pick up around you, pebbles getting caught up in the howling tempest that rages around you, your mind and body as calm and as still as a statue as you await your prey. The very second you see an attack helicopter peer out from behind the air conditioning unit you take your sword and lash out towards it, nearly half of the air conditioners on the room getting immediately cut in half as a massive blast of wind roars towards the second attack helicopter, slicing it directly in two right down the middle.

(Hibiki attacks Assault Helicopter 2 dealing 16 lethal damage, destroying it!)

“Mayday mayday! We’re going down!” The pilot of the helicopter cries out as you see the cockpit open up, the chair flying high up in the air as the pilot ejects, the flaming wreckage of the helicopter crashing on the roof behind you as you spin your blade around and slowly put it back into its sheath.

“Hibiki! Holy... What was that!?” Mochire cries out in sheer amazement after he just saw what happened.

“It’s called hurry the hell up with that communications relay!” you bark at Mochire.

“O-Oh right! Sorry!” Mochire says immediately going back to work on the communications relay.

“Blue King this is Knight 4, Knight 3 is down I repeat Knight 3 is down! Further engagement is too dangerous with current forces over!” The first assault helicopter says as it pulls further back from out of your range, still shining a floodlight directly down on top of you.

“Roger that Knight 4, your orders are to maintain visual contact until further reinforcements arrive.” The woman on the other end says.

“Damnit we’re never going to hear the end of them! MOCHIRE!” you suss out at him.

“We may be surrounded, but I bet I can outrun every single one of them, hop on my back!” you tell Mochire.

Mochire quickly runs over and hops on your back. “We’re not going to jump over the leEEEDDDGGGEEE!”

Following Mochire’s own words you leap off the edge of the skyscraper, hurlting down towards the earth as the air races around your face. As you land on the ground below a crater is made in the sidewalk before you jump over the makeshift police barrier of police cars, soaring over the population as you continue to run down the street as fast as you can. Brave onlookers attempt to capture you and your trailing silver copies on their cameras while most everyone else just tries to get out of their way.

As you race towards a nearby crossroads, two military humvees come around each of the corners, the gunners on top opening fire on you and barely missing you as you zoom across the streets.

“Your plan of trying to run away is shit!” Mochire yells at you.

“Better than saying inside of that building and calling in a Dragonblooded to search for us!” You say as you approach an upcoming turn, leaning into it with all your might and using one hand to slide along the ground, running as fast as you can down the street before military jeeps and police vehicles round the corner after you. Terrified civilians leaping out of the way of the incoming police chase. “We just need to get far enough away to get into the sewer or something! They won’t be able to chase after us in there!”

“Then you better run faster as they’re directly on our ass!” Mochire yells at you.

“Then you better shut up as your bitching isn’t helping!” you yell back at him.

“Hang on.” You tell Mochire as you pause for the span of a heartbeat, your feet skidding along the ground before soar into the air as a silver streak, bullets impacting the sides of the building you’re on before to start to dash across the rooftops.

(Military Humvee’s attack Hibiki dealing 7 initiative damage!)

“This gremlin next had better be nearby!” you say vaulting over to the next building as you can hear the Humvee’s behind you round the curve down below.

“Just ahead! Storage area! Its the one that looks like its falling apart!” Mochire points out amidst the rows of poorly maintained orange roofed storage units.

“THEY’RE ALL FALLING APART!” you snap at Mochire as you hear a roaring sound directly behind you hear a roaring sound behind you, leaping into the air and twisting your body just in time as a missile cruises just past you, attempting to curve around before impacting one orange capped storage units, with Gremlin units now beginning to pour out from the cracks in the storage park.

(Attack Helicopter 1 attacks Hibiki and just grazes her after Hibiki used Accelerated Response System!)

“See there they are! I told you they’d be here!” Mochire tells you.

“Good! Thank you! Now let’s focus on getting out of here alive!” you reply as you quickly begin to dash over the rooftops in the storage unit, a few of the gremlins opening fire at you while some begin to take more of a notice towards the helicopter in the sky and the military vehicles approaching them on foot.

As you jump across one of the rooftops however, a few gremlins in an alleyway between the storage units open fire on you, with all of your energy focused in speed rather than defense, the bullets themselves tear into your armour and into your leg, an excruciating burn pain erupts through your leg, wobbling a bit as you land on the other rooftop but knowing that if you stop here then it means death.

(Patchwork Gremlins attacked Hibiki for four lethal damage!)

“Hold on... HQ we got sight of a massive gremlin nest. Over.” The Attack Helicopter can be heard of the radio.

“Standby... Your orders are to assist the ground troops and to make sure that the gremlin infestation in the area does not spread to other areas. Shinobi is not the priority now, over.” The HQ says replying back.

“Roger that, lightning them up.” The helicopter replies as the sound of rocket pods being fired can be heard behind you.

(Hibiki as successfully retreated from the military!)

You leap away from the gremlin warzone behind you, not even stopping until you are several blocks away in an alleyway. You pant heavily as Mochire climbs off of your back.

“Hibiki! That was great! I kn- By the Elemental Dragon’s, you’re wounded!” Mochire says looking at your leg.
>>
[2/3]

You look down at your leg, seeing a bright silver coloured ooze slowly seeping out of it. “I can still walk...” you say holding onto the side of the building, feeling as if there is a burning coal in your leg. “Open the manhole cover over there before more reinforcements arrive.”

“Right right!” Mochire says moving his hand, the manhole cover in the alleyway lifting up in midair before being slide across. “Come here, I’ll help.”

“I’m fine.” you say as you try to hop over to the manhole opening.

“You’ve been shot! You’re anything but fine!” Mochire says forcing his own shoulders under your arm before helping you towards the manhole.

After you both head down the sewer, the two of you continue to run as fast as your hobbled leg can carry you for ages, following no coherent direction as the two of you randomly pick and direction that treats your fancy.

“...I... I can’t go any further...” Mochire says, panting in exhaustion as he slowly lets you down against a wall, sitting down in front of what appears to be a small pool of green sewage.

“No... No you did good...” you tell Mochire as you lean down against the wall, your body crying in relief now that your shot leg has a chance to rest.

“Damn... Those gremlins managed to get your leg pretty bad...” Mochire says looking at the dark fluid slowly coming out from your leg.

“I can still walk on it just in case, and I won’t be bleeding out. Osvald told me that Alchemical blood is very thick, so I’m in no danger of bleeding out.” you reply.

Mochire uses his fist to hit the wall behind him. “...Shit! This is all my fault! If I was only I was more attentive on that roof! Only Wendy has better eyes than me so why the hell couldn’t I see a drone!?”

“Shit happens Mochire, there isn’t much we can do about it.” you reply trying to move your leg a slight bit. “Still... I can’t be caught like this outside. I’m not Wendy, so something like this is going to slow me down. I’m going to have to call Osvald about this.”

“Woah Osvald!?” Mochire asks in shock next to you.

“Yea Osvald. He has a cloaking device like me, so he should be able to lock onto my position and come here to patch me up like he did with Dexter.” you reply.

“Yea but one of Osvald’s best traits is his ability to dig up information from nowhere. He’s going to find out what we did to the communication relays, the ones HE made!” Mochire points out. “If he finds out and tells Wendy he’s going to have both of our heads!”

“I don’t think Osvald is capable of ‘feeling’ anything at this point.” You tell Mochire, referencing Osvald’s machine like mind.

“Yes but... Look I have an idea. I can bring you back to Tempesta’s place.” You’re about to open your mouth before Mochire place’s a finger on your mask where your mouth would be. “They have very potent medics there as well. We can fix you up there with Osvald being none the wiser.”

- “I’m calling Osvald. I know you don’t like him but it's just too risky to go outside right now. Osvald is understanding, so at the very least we can try and reach some understanding.”

- “Alright... I’m at least trusting you that we can get back to Tempesta’s own little home base safe and sound.”

“Alright... I’m at least trusting you that we can get back to Tempesta’s own little home base safe and sound.” you say to Mochire. “Just... after several more minutes of resting.”

“Yea... Yea me too...” Mochire says as he continues to pant against the wall.

******

After careful careful navigation through the city coupled with very liberal usages of both you and Mochire’s cloaking features, both of you make it back to Tempesta’s own headquarters back in the slums area of Versino. Mochire and the guards take you to what appears to be a private spare room on the second floor while Mochire heads down to get Tempesta. As you lay down in the bed, looking over the graffiti on the walls while two guards stand outside, Tempesta himself comes up a few minutes later, flanked by two guards dressed in red clothing while another appears to be a woman about your size, only her skin is tinted a light green with the occasional bark spots covering her body up, hair being just the same as leaves with flowers scattered amongst them.

“Treat her.” Tempesta orders the young wood woman, pointing towards your leg.

“Yes milord.” the wood woman says with nod before kneeling down on the ground in front of you, beginning to examine your leg.

“My own cute doctor, why thank you Tempesta.” you reply to him. “Where’s Mochire?”

“Downstairs, they’ll depart once you give me the location of where the last communication’s relay will go to.” Tempesta replies.

“Give me a bit, I’ll be joining them.” you shifting your weight.

“I’m sorry milady, while I can treat you the treatment involves remaining still for the time being. If you move too much it’ll have no effect.” The dyrad tells you.

“Great...” you mutter.

Tempesta gives a solemn nod towards you, but this time with a smile on his face. “I have misjudged you Shinobi. I had originally pegged you for being a soulless machine brainwashed by those who had made you, but after seeing how you spilled blood for us I shall treat you as one of my own so long as you rest within these walls. I swear upon my honour that the last communications relay will go up without us making any further alterations to it.”

“Fine... The last area the communication relay goes up on is at the docks, the maintenance box of the automatic crane system on dock 11.” you tell Tempesta.

“We know that area well, rest assured it’ll be easy for my men to install it there without much hassle.” Tempesta says with a nod. “I also wish to bestow upon you a reward for your service.”
>>
[2/2]

“A reward?” you ask.

“Yes. While I cannot give you those tanks that your kind favors so much, I can at least provide you other boons which are just as powerful.” Tempesta says holding up a small glass vial the size of one’s own thumb up in front of him. “In each of these tiny containers there contains a spell, one that can be of great use to you. I am willing to part with one from my own personal collection.”

“Oh? What kind of spells would those be?” you ask.

“The first spell is called ‘Impenetrable Veil of Darkness’, a potent spell that creates a strong bubble of supernatural darkness that terrorizes the weak of heart while drastically reducing the light of anything inside of it. Champions of the North are known to use this spell to make quick getaways or to hide themselves even when their own animas are flaring. The second spells are a collection of elemental servants in where they’ll agree to serve you for a small period of time after the vial is broken. The first servants are the pack Hunters of the North, Raiju, ones which Mochire tells me you know of quite well. The other is the strong Ledmedved, an elemental bear of ice which can overpower most foes. The last is the Zephyr Hawks, aerial hunters who have never touched the ground but are known to be more than a match for anything within the air.”

“Interesting choices...” you say looking at the crystal in his hand.

“I’ll take the Veil of Darkness. It’ll help when I’m trying to be stealthy.” you reply to Tempesta.

“Keeping true to your namesake hm? Wise choice young Shinobi.” Tempesta says handing you the Vial in his hands.

“Such things are incredibly handy. Is there any way to get more of them? Can Mochire himself make them?” you ask.

“The exact process is a secret amongst the Elemental Courts, but I can tell you that each Vial costs a small fortune of rare and expensive ingredients to actually make. They are usually given only to our most trusted are usually given access to them. While anyone with sorcery can make them, the ingredients are often so valuable that such things are used when making an instant sorcerous spell is a last ditch effort.” Tempesta replies.

“Can’t make them in Versino, got it.” you reply to Tempesta as your Omnitool hand opens up to safely store the vial.

“I shall leave the Dryad to her work then. I wish for your speedy recovery young Shinobi.” Tempesta bows as he walks out of the room.

“Hm... This next bit may hurt a little...” The Dryad says as tiny little vines slither around your wound. “As these aren’t bullets, they’re rusty nuts and bolts.”

“Just do the best you can in that case.” you reply as you lay back down on the mattress.

******

About an hour later the Dryad finishes her own little operation procedure, your leg still hurts a little bit even with her numbing toxins, but at the very least you can more freely move your leg around a bit.

“Hibiki! You’re doing well I see!” Mochire says coming in from around the corner.

“H-Hey Hibiki.” Glen says walking around the corner of the room.

“...My god you really are just like Commando.” you say looking at Glen.

“...Who?” Glen asks with a confused look on his face.

Mochire gives a hard laugh, giving Glen a pat on the back. “Inside joke, not a mean one don’t worry about it. How’s your leg doing?”

“Better now after the Dryad removed most of the crap from it.” you say moving your leg ever so slightly. “Is the communications relay set up?”

“Up and running as smooth as a fiddle.” Mochire says snapping his fingers, a small spark coming off of them.

“Thank you for saving Mochire’s life back there Hibiki. It really means a lot to me.” Glen says with a smile on his face, echoing his clown tattoos.

You give a small wave. “Just a small flesh wound, nothing overly serious.”

“Yea but you got shot because of my own fuckup, and you even decided to keep this to yourself despite everything that happened.” Mochire says looking down at you. “I owe you for this big time.”
>>
[2/3]

“You’d do the same for me as well.” you reply to Mochire.

“Yea but it doesn’t make me feel any better for you getting shot. I heard Tempesta gave you a reward and even then I still feel like shit that my boss had to do that...” Mochire says rubbing the back of his neck.

“Mochire you came out of that facility with literally nothing, don’t worry about not being able to give Hibiki anything when you have nothing yourself.” Glen tells him.

“I guess...” Mochire says with a small sigh. “Will you be fine here for the rest of the night?”

“Thanks to the Dryad, my wounds are treated so I don’t need to worry about a-”

“Oh yea! That’s a great point!” Mochire says stepping into the room, taking the Dryad sitting down next to you and almost heaping her into your arms. “Here you go! Entertainment for the night courtesy of the Elemental Court!”

Glen’s eyes go wide in shock as he sees Mochire do this. “Mochire! What in the name of Mela are you doing!?”

“What? It’s a Dyrad? They’re in the Elemental Pole of Wood’s entertainment district all the time! Nursing play is very popular there as well!” Mochire says with a smile on his face.

“Yea but over there they’re paid! Right now you’re forcing a brand new Dyrad on top of her!” Glen protests.

“Nonsense! She’s the element of wood! She’ll be more than suited for the task!” Mochire says waving off Glen’s concerns.

“And this is exactly what I meant by you just brushing off anyone concern’s other than your own!” Glen says, a hint of anger in his voice.

“Don’t worry it’ll be fine!” Mochire says walking out of the room. “Good night Hibiki!”

“Don’t think you can get away from this discussion that easily Mochire Williams!” Glen says following after Mochire down the hall, their banter continuing until it gradually lessens in volume until only the rock music from the lounge can be heard below.

[3/3]

“...Um... What are you supposed to do with me?” you ask the elemental in your arms, still somewhat shocked and confused by the events that are happening.

“Lord Tempesta instructed me to take care of you by any way possible, after you are recovered I am free to go.” the Dryad replies.

“Huh... So what’s your name?” you ask her.

“Dryad.” she immediately replies.

You give a small sigh as you look at the Dryad in your arms. Even being half plant herself, she certainly appears to be your type...

- “So uh... D-Do you want to play a game of nurse?”

You make a small swallow to yourself. “So uh... What about your existence? W-Wait! I mean what do you like to do for yourself?”

“Dryads exist to be caretakers and guardians of the forests, so if anything I do like gardening.” The Dryad replies to you.

“Oh really? I’m a fan of bonsai trimming myself.” you say as you begin to hit it off with the Dryad herself.

For the next hour or two both of you continue to chat it up about various plants, how one grows and takes care of them, and other such things. While her speciality appears to be more eastern style plants, the knowledge of plants in general and how to take care of them appears to be quite extensive. You figure out that her being a plant herself that she’s capable of understanding what her lesser brethren want, but also she appears to have an innate connection to plants that allows her to know deep down what each plant wants.

“I’m kind of envious you’re able to do such a thing.” you say scratching the back of your neck, your faceplate long since opened up to show her your face.

“Everyone has something that comes naturally for them.” The Dryad replies.

“Yea I guess for me it’s martial arts... I can show you a few kata’s from the styles I know if you want.” you offer the Dryad.

“No, you must rest. Doing such things may make your wound not heal properly.” The Dryad replies.

“I’m out of options then. The only other thing I can think of would be playing nurse.” you casually slip before you realize your mistake. Your entire face must be a bright red by no-... No wait... Deep grey by now.

“I do not mind it.” The Dryad says in a dry tone.

“...Nani?” you turn towards the Dryad and ask.

“I’ve been instructed to take care of you, thus it is within my orders that I obey taking care of you.” The Dryad replies.

“And if you weren’t under orders?” you reply.

“I enjoy taking care of others, plus you seem to be a fellow caretaker of nature, so we have much in common.” The Dryad says rolling over on top of you, looking down at you with deep brown eyes. “Shall we begin the game of Nurse then?”

“...Hai.” you say, the energy lines if your face pulsing rapidly as she lays on top.
>>
[2/2]

Throughout the next hour or so you learn a few things. First is Alchemical bodies have an endurance far above most known mortals for all categories. Second is that when you boost your own tactile senses, using it for such things as feeling footsteps around you or a tank rolling down the street, is one method of using it and is something the greatest of masters aspired to train towards. What you couldn’t train for is nearly every tactile sense in your body being multiplied by a factor of 10.

After an hour later, both you and the Dryad sleeping in the bed itself with your armour scattered around the room, her sleeping peacefully in your arms while your mind remains wide awake, still winding down from the experience you just had.

INCMING TRNS: OSVALD

(“...Shit.”) you mutter in your native language, panic starting to set in as you pick up the other end of the line.

“Thank you for setting up the relays, I’m reading them all active right now.” Osvald replies on the other end.

“Not a problem.” you reply.

“However I have questions. Why did it take so long to put up the last relay? Also why are you not back at the hotel, it's 3 AM right now.” Osvald states. “Mochire is missing as well.”

- “We... had a bad run in with the military. I’m staying with some of Mochire’s friends after getting patched up.” (Tell the truth)

Osvald has a nose like a bloodhound, so there’s no point in hiding it from him. “We... had a bad run in with the military. I’m staying with some of Mochire’s friends after getting patched up.”

“Mochire’s friends?” Osvald replies.

“Elemental Drug Pushers.” you reply.

“How badly were you hurt? Are you sure it's safe there?” Mochire asks.

“When trying to run away I took a few bullets in the calf, but I’m fine now. The doctors here are not as skilled as you but it was nowhere near as bad as Dexter’s wound was.” you reply looking down at your leg covered by the sheets. “I can vouch for safety, they thank me after saving Mochire’s own life, which is one of the reasons I took a few shots in the first place.”

“Those people are dangerous Hibiki. Their beliefs are radical and even though Mochire may be one of their own, I calculate a 42.391 percent chance that they will attempt to betray or dispose of him for various religious or misguided security precautions.” Osvald replies in a monotone voice.

“That’s a gross margin of error.” you reply back to Osvald.

“I am going by second hand nature regarding them, that coupled with how I have no knowledge of Mochire’s own personality gang, those in his gang who have influence over him, or those in charge of Mochire leads to a large margin of error, however-”

“It's large enough to be a real concern.” you finish Osvald’s sentence.

“Precisely.” Osvald replies.

“Call it a gut feeling, but I think I’ll be fine for the night at the very least. If they make a move now then they know the entire military is going to be on their head, and with the city being under martial law they won’t have any issues turning this building into a parking lot and be done with it.” you reply.

“Your logic is sound. In the future please be sure to contact me whenever you are doing such an activity again.” Osvald replies. “Also are you currently well?”

“Why do you ask that?” you reply.

“Your neural activity records show large and irregular patterns. I originally estimated that you were being tortured and contacted you once the activity had died down. Is there a reason for this?” Osvald asks.

“How do you know that!?” you ask him.

“I have various programs that allow me to monitor the health status of those with an Uplink Node as a security precaution to monitor the team.” Osvald replies

God damnit Osvald!

- “None of your damn business!”

ADA recommendations:
Recommended Normal XP Purchases

- Optical Shroud Submodule “Dynamic Cloaking Module”: Able to move at much faster speeds while cloaked, extending the range one can move while cloaked (Slow speed -> Normal Movement -> Running speed -> Any distance), in addition each additional purchase lowers the penalty of moving while cloaked by 1 (3 XP each)

- Optical Shroud submodule “Sense Countering Upgrades”: Firmware updates and layers of sound absorbing material make the sounds that come from normal operation produce far less sound overall. This third and final installation of this submodule renders the Alchemical immune to all exotic forms of sight [EX: Thermal, X-Ray, etc...] unless they come from a supernatural based source or if some form of Essence Sight (4 XP per purchase, Essence 3 means it will need to go into a Overdrive slot)

- Omnitool Implant Submodule “Advanced Lockpicking Toolkit”: The Omnitool implant gains a series of tools that allow it to open nearly any sort of door. First an Alchemical never has to damage a door to open it. Mundane doors are automatically opened without need for a roll while against magical doors the Alchemical may always at least try. (6 XP)

- NEW Optical Enhancement “Recording Systems”: Record and store up to (Essence days) of things you see and hear. Can download what you see to external storage devices of stream it via Uplink Node. (1 XP)

- NEW Optical Enhancement “Diagnostic Overlay”: Tell the health of a subject with just a few seconds scanning them, listing all health problems and issues. Can also tell the exact health levels of all opponents. (6 XP)

- NEW Optical Enhancement “Thermal Vision”: See in Infrared spectrum, allowing you to see heat of the target. (6 XP)

- Advanced Stalker Protocols “Maximized Damage Processor”: When making an attack from stealth, up to [Appearance] threshold successes on the roll are doubled while on a decisive attack a likewise amount of threshold successes are added to the damage. That’s right, the prettier you are the harder you hit. (6 XP, Essence 3 means it requires an Overdrive slot)

- Charm “Impenetrable Repulsor Field”: If struck with an attack that does actual health level damage, you may engage a force field that ablates the damage based on initiative spent, possibly nullifying the attack completely. Alternatively, Hibiki gains the ability to parry attacks which cannot possibly be parried or gain 100% protection from attacks with arbitrarily large damage sources such as nuclear blasts or supervolcano eruptions. (10 XP including slot)

- Charm “Impact Dispersion Module”: Gain (Essence or 3, whichever is higher) Additional soak against withering attack or four hardness against decisive attacks. Basically you gain a small toughness boost. (10 XP with slot)
>>
Recommended Alchemical XP Purchases

- Strength Up (5 XP per dot, maximum 5) [Suggested for Tiger Style]

- Perception/Wits Up (4 XP per dot, maximum 5)

- Athletics (3 XP per dot, maximum 5)

- Tiger Style Specialty (3 XP, adds +1 die to all Tiger style rolls)

- Steel Devil Style “Triple Attack Technique” (8 XP): Upgrades Double Attack Technique, where if you gain enough successes over the opponent's defense the damage of your attack has the potential to greatly increase.

- Steel Devil Style “Seconds Between Strife” (8 XP): When making a rush towards an enemy, may convert charge into automatic successes on the rush attempt. If the Rush is successful, the charge spent on the Rush is refunded. Meaning it makes you really fast.

- Steel Devil Style “Sonic Slash” (8 XP):If the automatic move action happens due to a rush action you make activate this charm to make an immediate decisive attack in a line out to medium range with a base damage equal to your current charge. This does not reset you to base initiative. Meaning this lets you fire out wind blasts from your swords from running fast (Must know Seconds Between Strife)

- Air Dragon Style “Breath Seizing Technique” (8 XP): Steal the very breath of life from the opponent themselves. If an attack does a certain amount of damage than the opponent is faced with a penalty to all actions which can be stacked. If this penalty is higher than the opponents stamina then they begin to suffocate until they pass out. Alchemical opponents are immune to suffocation, but the penalty still remains with them.

- Air Dragon Style “Air Dragon Form” (8 XP): Surround yourself with a small personal tempest, providing small boosts to your speed and dodge. All attacks are wreathed in electricity slightly increasing damage, unarmed attacks can be made out to short range while any attacks using Chakram’s turn all aim dice into automatic successes. [Requires Breath Seizing Technique and Shrouding the Body and Mind]

- Tiger Style “Tiger Form” (8 XP): Emulate the ferocity and power of the Celestial Tiger with this form. Fight while prone at no additional penalty and have the potential to greatly increase the damage of your withering attacks in proportion to your strength and how well you rolled. Lastly, gain a speed bonus to any attempt to go faster or catch up to your opponent.

- Tiger Style “Celestial Tiger Hide” (8 XP): Decrease the amount of withering damage you take for the scene in proportion to your strength. Ranged attacks that come from Long range or further are less effective against you. Lastly decrease the raw damage of a decisive attack against you by terminating this charm. [Requires Tiger Form]

- Tiger Style “Iron Claw Grip” (8 XP): Pounce on an enemy and to grapple them, gaining a possible increase to the amount of turns a target can remain grappled. Targets who are grappled cannot defend against your attacks. [Requires Tiger Form]
