Far off, nestled in an otherwise small Japanese town lies the Dark Gate Academy. An institution of tremendous size, the Academy holds a long kept secret. Unknown to the outside world, this unseemly town is home to a tear in our reality. A gate between our world and a bizarre dimension known as the Darkworld. The inhabitants of this hellish world breach this gate and attempt to flood into our reality and spread throughout the world on a regular basis. However, the Dark Gate Academy is home to students of truly extraordinary abilities. The ability to sense the presence of these evil Darkworld creatures, and defeat them in combat, sending them back through the gate.

They cannot close the rift between our world and the Darkworld, but the students and staff of Dark Gate Academy have dedicated their lives to using their amazing powers to hold back the darkness that plagues our world, even if it costs them their lives. They have risen up to the challenge and in secret have become great heroic defenders of the world as we know it.

For many years, Dark Gate Academy has held back the forces of the Darkworld, kept this unspeakable evil contained within their walls. But a dark cloud approaches, and times are about to change. A new chapter in the tale of Dark Gate Academy is about to begin.

“This must be the place.”

The call to action was sudden. Akuro received word from an anonymous tip on her radio that there was a rift open on the train tracks briefly outside the small village of Kibo, opened up by none other than Yami himself. When Akuro described the voice of the anonymous tip, there was no doubt in your mind... it was Akuro. Before you knew it, you club and a sizeable portion of Class 2 were being shipped off on a mission to rescue Ryoji Shida and Saki Kobashi, who just so happened to be riding the train at the time, and to hopefully take down Yami for good.

“Indeed,” Sayeka Ohko nods in agreement with Ken Tajiri's statement. “However, we should be particularly careful.”

“Yeah, Yami's a tough opponent...”

“Not just that Ken,” Sayeka explains. “When I try to see what awaits us inside, my vision is... blurred. Something is interfering with my powers. It makes me question whether we have Yami cornered, or if he's the one backing us into a corner.”

“Well, we can never be too careful,” Ken sighs. “But what choice do we have? Ryoji and Saki are in there! They can't take on Yami by themselves!”

And if Ryoji Shida is in there... then so is the stone. You had your reservations on giving away the stone, as your friends can attest, but if Yami is able to get his hands on it... there's no telling what destruction he can cause.

You feel a hand on your shoulder, turning around to see Kiriko frowning. “I know what you're thinking, Kaz... we'll make sure that stone doesn't fall into his hands.”

“Let's hope...” You mutter.

Ken lets out a sigh and turns to Akio Naito. “Akio, are you sure you don't want to take over leadership duties for this one?”

Akio shakes his head. “Nah, I'm good. Come on Ken, have a little more faith in yourself.”

“Geez...” Ken mutters. “You know I'm bad at this...”

“You've still got potential!” Akio punches him in the arm. “Besides, you've changed a lot since you last tried to lead, right? You've got a girlfriend now! A hot one!”

Ken nods as he leads the charge into the rift, and you and the rest of your crew follow.

Stepping into the rift, you find yourself in a dark, cold room with stone walls. In the middle of the room lies a familiar figure.

“Saki!” Ken cries out as you rushes to her side.

Saki slowly rises from the ground with a strained groan, using her lance as a crutch. “Ryoji...” she mutters. “We have to...”

“What happened?” you ask.

“He... he took Ryoji,” Saki groans. “We... we have to go save him!”

“You can't,” Ken explains. “Saki, you're clearly hurt.”

“No... it doesn't matter,” Saki groans.

Ken shakes his head. “Saki, you can barely move. You need to stay back, we'll take it from here.”

“But-”

“Saki...” Ken looks her dead in the eyes. “We'll find him. I promise.”

Saki stares at Ken, then nods. “Okay... I trust you, Ken. But also... you need to find the others too...”

“The others?” you ask, but a quick look around tells you exactly what she means. In the room stands five stone doors across the walls, leading to five different paths. Labelled on them are the names The Dread, The Reaper, The Artist, The Light and The Doctor respectively. The Demon Slayers... though Miyoko's Archdemon seems to be missing. Also present is a long dark pathway with some stairs, though you can't see where it leads.

“We'll take the mystery path,” Ken remarks. “Kazuma, you and your club find the... others.”

Ken and the rest of his group run down the path with determination. You look around the room at the available paths... which one will you take first?

>The Doctor

The doctor among the Demon Slayers... Nari, wasn't it? You don't know what her powers were like, but her status as the groups medic might prove useful if she can be recovered.

"Right, let's get going through this door first," you explain.

"The Doctor? What do these titles mean?" Chuichi asks.

"It's their demons!" Alice laughs.

"Former demons, at least," Risa adds. "These demon hunters... they went through a ritual to remove their Archdemons."

"A ritual?" Chuichi raises an eyebrow. "Wow, I'm still so out of the loop... I'm just gonna try to follow as best I can, but this is all so confusing."

You step through the door and find yourself in a long hallway. As you walk through, you begin to hear the sound of voices.

"Such a weird girl...."

"I heard she eats rats..."

"What a freak..."

You look around. "What the hell are these?"

"Hmm..." Io mumbles. "I wonder... when Yami creates an area like this, it was always born from his own mind, right?"

"That's right!" Kiriko exclaims, snapping her fingers. "So wait... is this something from Yami's memories?"

"I'm not sure..." you mutter. "The other times we heard voices, it was all stuff people would say about or to Yami... pretty sure he's not a girl."

"Huh..." Tami replies. "Oh, what if this is the doctor's thoughts?"

"It's certainly a possibility," Anri replies.

"Who cares?" Gado mutters. "None of this is important right now. We just gotta keep moving."

You push onward as you find yourself in what appears to be a hospital room, metal beds without mattresses spread out among it. A heart monitor sits in the middle of the room, a loud ringing sound coming from it, the sound of a flatline.

"Ugh, this place is already giving me the creeps!" Kiriko sighs. "Mayu, are you scared?"

Mayu remains silent... as she has done for the last while any time you're around. You never expected your friendship with her to be repaired in a matter of a day, but that doesn't make the tension between the two of you any less uncomfortable.

At the end of the room is a metal door, but as you approach it, you can see that it's bolted shut.

"Fantastic..." Risa sighs. "What do we do now?"

"Let's look around," you explain. "Maybe there's something around here that can help us through this door."

The rest of your group nod in agreement as they begin to search the area.

"This area is pretty interesting," Akuro mutters. "Is this part of that weird doctor's thoughts?"

"It's scary that Yami is able to do something like this," Kiriko sighs. "It's like that weird cave in the Darkworld. Remember?"

"All too well," you shake your head, glancing over to Mayu, who bites her lip.

"Why the hell did you have to remind me of that?!" Sae yells. "Come on, of course we remember!"

You all begin to look around, Akuro and Anri searching with much more determination than the others. Gado wanders over to a drawer and opens it up, revealing a black notebook. "Hey brainiac, check this out."

"Hmm, are you referring to me?" Anri asks.

"Who else would it be referring to?" Gado asks.

"Kuin, for one," Anri explains. "After all, she's just as intelligent as I am, if not more."

"Yeah, but I'm not a brainiac!" Kuin laughs. "I'm your benevolent dictator!"

Gado sits on one of the hospital beds, flicking through the pages of the notebook. "Take a look, think you can find anything interesting?"

Anri makes her way to the bed and sits down next to Gado. Gado positions himself, wrapping his arms around Anri so that the book is in a position where it can be read by the both of them.

"W-well... I..." Anri mutters while blushing, before clearing her throat. "Excuse me... this seems to have been written by this Nari. It appears to be some sort of diary."

"What's it say?" you ask.

"It's a simple recollection and recording of various symptoms..." Anri mutters. "It seems this Nari spent a lot of time in and out of hospitals... the entries stop suddenly, on May 3rd... 1976."

"Any clues on how to open the door?" Io asks.

"Don't think so," Gado sighs. "But maybe the brainiac can find a hidden message."

"Putting a little too much faith in her, don't you think?" Akuro asks. "After all, I'm the actual agent-"

"Shut up," Gado fires at Akuro. "Stop picking on her, I have way more confidence in her talents than yours."

Anri blushes once more, before shaking her head. "Umm... be that as it may, there doesn't appear to be any hidden message. Apologies..."

"Damn," you sigh, kicking the leg of one of the beds in frustration. To your surprise, this lets off the sound of an intense wail, some horrified screaming coming from the bed Anri and Gado are sitting on. The both shoot up, confused, as the door at the end of the room bursts open, flooded with about ten creatures in doctors outfits... you say creatures as they appear to be dealing with a bad case of rotting flesh.

"Well, at least the door's open..." Io sighs. "But it looks like we'll have to go through these guys first. Being taken by surprise, the ghoulish doctors are able to attack you first, each one going for a different member of the party with their brandished scalpels. The only members of the party that manage to go un-targeted are Anri, Kuin and Gado.

You all leap into action, avoiding the slashes from the various ghoulish doctors as you ready your own weapons. Most of you manage to dodge out of the way in time, but not all of you. Mayu and Io both find themselves being slashed along the arms. Io yelps out in pain, but only silently winces.

"Are you okay?" you ask.

Io clutches her bleeding forearm. "Nothing a little medicine can't solve! But thanks for worrying about me!"

"I... I'm fine," Mayu sighs. "Sorry for being distracted."

Her voice is still wracked with guilt... dammit.

Gado pull out his sword as he holds Anri back. "Careful, brainiac. Stay back and fire from a distance. You be safe too, Kuin."

"You sound... worried about me," Anri mutters.

Gado grunts. "Of course I am, genius. I'm worried about everyone."

"Ready to move, Kaz?" Kiriko asks.

You brandish your sword and rush towards one of the doctors, swinging with tremendous force and slicing it clean in two. Mayu follows with her own Katana, cutting another in half.

"Nice work," you state.

Mayu looks to you, then immediately looks away. "Thank you..."

Kiriko follows with an attempt at attacking one of the creatures, but the doctor manages to move out of the way of her dagger slash. Risa picks up the slack, taking said creature down with a shotgun blast to the chest. Chuichi fires his battle strings at one of them, but misses by a mile.

"Heh, guess I need work," he chuckles, looking over to Mayu, who doesn't react.

Gado charges towards one of the doctors with a swing of his sword, but misses as well. Akuro fires upon the creature that avoids Gado's swipe, but misses, as Kuin tries to punch it, but handily falls on her face before Anri manages to take it down with a hail of bullets. Io rushes over to Mayu and begins to patch up her wounds on her arm.

"Focus on yourself," Mayu mutters. "You are hurt as well."

"Nah, you're more important," Io smiles. "Don't be too proud to accept healing."

Mayu stares at Io and shakes her head.

Tami readies her bow and takes another creature down, while Sae misses with another before Alice takes it down with a beam of energy being shot from her fingers. She's on such good terms with her demon, she still retains some of the abilities without summoning it outright. Interesting...

With four doctors left, they find themselves slashing at some vulnerable targets. Kuin, Io, Alice, and Kiriko.

Kuin is still faceplanted on the floor when the doctor comes charging at her with the scalpel, as Gado leaps and grabs Kuin just in time to get out of the way, carrying her to safety.

Alice however seems to be lost in thought as she usually is, with one of the doctors slicing her along the shoulder with the scalpel.

"Ooow!" Alice cries as she touches her shoulder in pain. "That was mean! That really hurt!"

Alice continues to cry as you shake your head. "Alice, you need to be more careful!"

"Alice!" A concerned Io yells. "Are you okay, buddy?"

Alice pouts and nods as you ready your sword once more, ready to attack the remaining doctors.

Io is the first to move, quickly rushing to her roommate's side. "Alice, don't move until I patch you up!"

"Aw, that's nice!" Alice smiles as Io begins to heal her up.

"I have to look out for my friends, you silly-billy!" Io laughs.

Meanwhile, the rest of you move into action with your weapons drawn. Quite a few of you miss, but not all. Risa blasts one of them away with a shotgun blast, Chuichi slices one up with his wires, Anri punches holes into one of them with her gun, while Gado finishes the last one off with little difficulty, slicing it in half down the middle.

As the last doctor falls, Gado turns to Anri with a smirk, keeping Akuro firmly in his gaze. "Well done, brainiac. You're a pretty good shot. Better than most actual agents, without a doubt."

Akuro frowns as Anri blushes. "Why... thank you, uhh... wait a moment... are you complimenting me because you want to, or because you simply want to mock Akuro?"

"Definitely the second one," Gado replies. "Still, good job."

The rest of you make your way through the now open steel door. As you head down the corridor, you find yourself in what appears to be a white padded room. In the middle is a cowering green-haired girl in a straight-jacket.

"They want me to go back, run more tests, then send me back, then run more tests, then send me back..."

Her mumbling is unnerving as you step up to her. "Hey... Nari, right? Are you okay?"

"More tests more tests more tests..."

"This place must have messed with her head," Io sighs. "Memories from... before she was possessed, I guess."

"Nari, we're here to help you," you smile. Nari looks up at you with the heavy bags under her eyes.

"Oh... it's you," she mutters. "How interesting..."

"Sick..." Nari mutters. "I... was sick. Nobody knew what was wrong, what to do... but I was smart. I liked to experiment. I... developed my own experimental cure, but when I took it... didn't work. It all went wrong... my organs went, then my mind... and then it came. Promised to make me better..."

"Your Archdemon..." Io sighs. "Oh, I'm so sorry about what happened to you. I don't know what exactly happened, but... I'm sorry."

"Come on," Gado sighs as he hunkers down and picks up the doctor in a bridal carry. "Let's get you out of here... and then out of this straightjacket. You shouldn't be confined like this."

"No, I feel it's for the best that I am," Nari explains. "Still... still have to run tests."

You bring Nari back to the central room of the strange place, with one door down... yet another four to go.

"She's disoriented," Risa explains as you set Nari in the centre of the room. "Sucks... these guys are pretty powerful, but looks like Yami's taken them out of action. Hopefully the others have fared better."

You let out a sigh of frustration as Io hugs into your arm. "We're making progress, at least!" She cheerfully smiles. "But I guess some of us will have to stay behind to take care of her."

"I'll do it," Akuro mutters. "I'll take on that responsibility."

You nod. "Thanks, Akuro... be safe here."

"It's better than being mocked by the big guy," Akuro sighs.

Gado smirks as he calmly ruffles Anri's hair. "You made yourself look like an idiot when you tried to pick on the brainiac."

Four more doors remain. You should choose your next destination wisely.

>The Light

"The Light, who's that?" Kiriko asks.

"I think it was the black-haired girl," you reply. "You know, the one that couldn't talk."

"Omitsu..." Nari mutters, before closing her eyes over.

You open up the door labelled "The Light" and find yourself in yet another long, dark hallway. As you do, you hear a variety of voices.

"What's up with her? Why's she so quiet?"

"She hates talking to people. You know why, right? You see, her father..."

The voices trail off, as Io hangs her head low. "Oh, that poor girl..."

"Huh?" you ask. "What makes her a poor girl?"

"Trust me, that kind of sentence never has a happy ending," Io explains.

At the end of the hallway, you find yourself in a dark room. You shake your head. "Okay... somebody find a light."

"Kaz..." Io sighs. "I can still see you clear as day."

You turn around to face the rest of the group and... she's right. You can see her and the others perfectly. That means... it's not that the room is dark, the room is just... a black void. As you realise this, you hear the sounds of fighting in the distance. Sounds of steel meeting with steel, splatters of blood.

"Is that... Omitsu?" you ask.

"Could be," Chuichi replies. "If she is, we've gotta help her!"

You rush to the sound of the fighting, as you see Omitsu, her blade drawn, energy forming around her body, as she furiously slashes at... nothing.

"Hey, are you okay?" you ask.

A distorted voice in the distance calls out.

"The silent warrior, the light in a world of dark, broken beyond repair."

"There is no light in either world. It's foolish to deny it. Broken, abused, can't even scream out in pain, yet you continue to fight. Just give up."

The voice continues to ring out, as you realise Omitsu is charging up. She lets loose, as a wave of energy sends you and your group flying, before readying her sword, prepared for battle.

"What the hell's going on?!" Gado yells.

"I believe what she is visualising is different from what we're seeing," Anri explains. "Unfortunately, she may be under the impression that we're enemies."

"Wow... she's strong," Alice senses with amazement. "Stronger than the others. We can't beat her!"

"Then what can we do?"

"Try to just hit her enough to snap her out of it," Gado replies. "But landing any kind of shot on her might be tricky."

"What makes you say that?" you ask.

In reply, Gado raises his pistol and fires upon Omitsu. The purple energy surrounding her destroys the bullet in mid air. "Some kind of aura," Gado explains. "Protects her, blasts us."

Well, this is going to be tough.

I'd change Io to heal herself now, rather have her topped up to 100% to start with to try and avoid her having to take a turn later healing herself instead of someone else, I expect she's going to do little else than that for the rest of the fight.
Otherwise I'll go with the rest of the plan.

You ready you sword and charge at Omitsu, hoping to keep her attention on you. Mayu runs behind you at Kuin's behest, hoping to back you up and try to give you an opening. Mayu slashes at Omitsu, but her sword doesn't make its way past the aura.

Chuichi slashes with his wires, but the aura blocks it easily as well. Anri, Io, Sae and Alice all fire upon Omistu at range, but not a single shot gets past the aura.

"Dammit," Gado mutters as he defends Kuin. "Nothing we do it getting through."

"So sad..." the distorted voice calls out. "A girl with no hope, fighting until she collapses, hoping to die..."

The all-out attack from the others doesn't make a scratch, but it allows you to find a brief opening, as you launch forward with your Katana, finding a blind spot in the aura to slice along the shoulder of Omitsu. Her eyes widen as he skin is cut, followed even more as the same blind spot is hit with an arrow from Tami, embedding itself inside her shoulder.

Omitsu shakes her head briefly, seemingly beginning to snap out of her trance.

"The pain is unbearable, isn't it?" the voice asks. "You just want to give up, don't you? Throw it all away. All that power..."

Omitsu's eyes widen as she nods, the aura building up more and more around her. The blind spot is closed up, as she seems to be completely surrounded in energy. With a swipe of the hands, Omitsu's aura explodes outwards, sending a immensely powerful wave towards your group... the feeling, it's unbelievable... it's like she self-destructed, firing all of her energy outward. It's powerful enough that it could actually take a few of you out of commission if it hits.

Gado stands in front of Kuin, ready to take the shot for her, but the rest of you aren't so lucky.

Omitsu's energy explodes out, covering the entire void. There's no chance of moving out of the way, only bracing yourself to be able to take the hit without collapsing. The attack surrounds you, as you feel your body heating up, burning up, but you seem to be able to put up with the pain without taking too much damage.

As the aura clears up, you find yourself breathing heavily, smoke rising from your body. You're lucky you weren't burned up into dust. You feel that at the last moment, Omitsu may have realised what was going on and held back on the attack slightly.

"That was a close one..." you mutter. "Is everyone okay?"

You turn around to get your answer. Everyone else steaming up, with Kiriko, Tami and Alice falling forward with no energy. "Kiriko!" you yell out as you rush to your best friend's side. You check her pulse... still there thankfully, but she's out cold. That shot was far too much for her to handle. Everyone else seems hurt as well. Dammit...

Omitsu is also rising with steam and collapsing, having used up her energy in the attack.

"We're down three..." Risa mutters. "But at least we don't have to worry about Omitsu now..."

Anri falls to her knees, clutching her chest, as Gado checks on her. "You okay?"

"I... I'll survive," she mutters. "Thank you for your concern."

"Mayu, you okay?" Chuichi asks.

"I'm fine."

You feel a hand on your shoulder. Io. "Good to see you're okay too, Kaz."

Gado makes his way over to Omitsu and picks her unconscious body up.

"That's the mute girl, huh?" Chuichi asks. "Wow... she's actually beautiful... uhh, not as beautiful as you, Mayu!"

Mayu doesn't give Chuichi a reply.

"Heh... good impression of her," Chuichi chuckles nervously.

The rest of you make your way back to the centre room, placing the unconscious down before Akuro. "We've got more for you to babysit," Gado explains.

"Yikes," Akuro remarks. "What the hell was in that room?"

"She was," Gado replies, pointing out Omitsu. "Here's hoping she's the strongest of these Demon Slayers."

"Something tells me she is," Io states.

"Okay, so where next?" Chuichi asks.

"The Reaper?" Akuro asks. "Who's that? Let me guess, the scary one with the eye-patch?"

"No, I think it's Nishi," you reply.

"Nishi?" Akuro asks in shock. "Isn't that the cute blonde one? No way she's called something like The Reaper!"

You shake your head, already too pissed off to put up with any more banter. Kiriko had a serious close call just now, and you're can't waste any more time, let anyone else get hurt.

"That Omitsu girl's still a mystery to us..." Chuichi mutters as you open up the next door.

"Don't sound so disappointed!" Sae yells. "It's creepy as hell learning about people this way! I don't want to hear any of that crap!"

"Anri, hold up!" Io yells as she begins to patch up Anri slightly.

"Io? What are you doing?" she asks.

"A stiff breeze could knock you out right now!" Io laughs, "And we're going to be stepping into more trouble in here. I know we're in a rush, but I can patch you up a little while we move!"

"That is... very thoughtful of you," Anri states. "Thank you."

"No need to thank me!" Io smiles. "Just doing my job!"

As you wander through the hallway, you hear the sound of two voices speaking. The first, a low distorted voice. The other, Nishi's.

"Death is an unavoidable part of humanity. You cannot escape it. No matter the circumstances of your birth, no matter how you choose to live, all you know and love will come to pass."

"No! That's not true! Shut up!"

"Face the truth. They're gone, and they are never coming back."

"Shut up, shut up, shut up!"

"And it's all your fault."

"NO! I... I.... STOP IT!"

Risa shakes her head. "I guess it takes a pretty distraught person to become an Archdemon host in the first place."

You continue through the hallway and find yourself within a nice peaceful meadow... odd. You expected something much more sinister... oh, like that dark and gloomy graveyard at the end of the meadow. Yeah, that must be where you need to go.

"Come on," you command in a determined tone. "Let's get moving."

The group make your way up to the graveyard, where you see Nishi, as decked out in brightly coloured clothes as usual... being hung from some sort of makeshift crucifix, her head tilted down and lifeless, as a hooded figure with a massive sigh stand beneath her. It readies itself as you and your group approaches, and your group does the same.

You hold your sword and take the lead, rushing at the Reaper with your sword. You run through the grim creature with your sword, slicing off a part of its robed body... or rather, the robes that is its body. The hole you sliced seems to be recovering as you turn around to look... of course, it's some kind of Grim Reaper... it may be impossible to kill, but it's still worth trying. Risa keeps the onslaught going, firing upon The Reaper with numerous shotgun blasts, tearing through more of it's body, while Mayu takes a swipe of her own, flanking the Reaper as she slashes its back open.

Chuichi wraps his strings around the reaper with a cocky smirk. He pulls tight, slicing into the reaper and keeping it's body incapacitated while the other three begin to fire upon the reaper, hurting it more and more.

Io meanwhile begins to patch up Anri even more. "Job's not finished, buddy!" she smiles.

Anri nods at Io, as she gives a slight smile. You suppose it feels nice for her to know that people want to take care of her... though you're a little worried that Io has focused on helping everyone else over patching up her own minor wounds suffered ages ago. She could catch an infection if this keeps up.

Eventually, The Reaper breaks free from the strings, as it's robed body begins to regenrate. It hunkers down, seemingly in pain, as it's deathly, bony fingers come into contact with the ground beneath, as the plants in said ground wither and die, as if the very energy was drained from them by the Reaper. After this it picks it's target... Chuichi. It moves at incredible speed towards him, before holding it's bony finger in front of him, ready to make contact with his skin and drain the lifeforce from him.

"Nice try Bones," Chuichi smirks as he leaps back and throws up a series of strings, wrapping around The Reapers' skeletal hand, and leaps over the creature, pulling it's arm back and slamming it into the ground. "Heh, I looked pretty cool, didn't I?"

Risa shrugs. "Eh, kinda. I'll admit it."

"That was awesome!" Kuin exclaims, throwing her hands in the air. "Gado, did you see that?"

"Yeah..." he replies, let's stay focused.

"Right," you nod. "This thing still isn't finished."

"That's because..." you hear Nishi groan from her spot on the crucifix. "That's because... it won't die!"

You make your way over to Nishi as you let her loose from her binds, as she falls to the ground and picks herself up. "Ha... leave it to me..." she groans with a smile on her face. "I can... control it..."

Nishi holds up her hand to The Reaper, which comes rushing towards her. It holds its finger up and pokes her on the forehead before either of you have time to react, but she simply slaps the hand away. "Hey, stop that!" she yells. She continues to stare at The Reaper, which pauses before handing Nishi the scythe.

"See? Told you..." the exhausted Nishi mutters. "Come on, let's go..."

Nishi holds the scythe up high, as you are met with a flash of blinding light. When your vision returns, you're back in the centre room. Nishi smiles proudly, having teleported you and the others to safety, before collapsing from exhaustion. You catch her as she falls, laying her down gently.

"That was odd..." Io mutters.

"Indeed... she's yet another enigma," Anri explains. "Now, there are two rooms left."

She's right, you're making good progress here. But which room will you take next?

"Only two more to go!" Io cheerfully exclaims, patting you on the back. "Then after that, we're going to take down Yami, then I'm gonna treat you to a nice dinner to celebrate!"

"Let's not jump the gun, Io..." you reply. "All of that is easier said than done."

Io giggles and winks at you. "Yeah, but I have faith we'll be able to pull it of. I'm right behind you, leader!"

You enter through the door into yet another dark hallway, as you turn your head back to Io. "By the way, you should patch up that cut on your arm," you explain. "It was nice of you to take care of the others first, but don't neglect your own health."

"Oh, you're worried about me?" Io laughs, before seriously nodding. "Right..."

Io carefully begins to tend to her own wounds, as you step out into a... huh, your foot is stuck on something.

"Hey, it's that kid! Soshu, wasn't it?" one of the other-worldly voices calls out.

"Yeah, it is? Working on one of your paintings?"

"Leave me alone..." Soshu's voice calls out.

"Aw, he wants to be left alone! You hear that boys? I guess we have to do what he says right? Heh, yeah right!"

You look down, to see what is keeping your feet trapped and slowing you down... ink. Ink all along the ground, and at the end of the room, screaming in pain, as the ink is extracted from his body.

"You know what they say, Soshu..." one of the voices says. "You must suffer for your art."

Soshu screams as the ink begins to form a large figure before you, a black and white tiger standing tall above the rest of the group... then another... and another. Three of the beasts in total.

"Run..." Soshu cries. "I can't control it... leave me!"

You ready your weapons to move, forgetting the ink beneath your feet. Your movement is so limited... this is going to add a penalty to anything you try against these creatures. Crap...

The ink beneath your feet is greatly limiting your movement, but you're still able to move at well enough a speed to attack one of the tigers, slashing at it with your Katana cutting through it's side, spraying ink across the room. Risa attacks the same tiger, splattering it with another shotgun blast. One down.

Mayu fights against the force of the ink as well, launching herself forward and slicing up one of the tigers, and Anri opens fire on another. Sae holds up her two machine guns and fires on the two wounded tigers at once, finishing them both off, despite her sloppy firing tactics.

Meanwhile, Io heals Chuichi wounds with a smile, then turns to you. "Wow, you guys were on a roll. Even with this sticky stuff keeping us do-WHOA!"

Io calls out as she falls back, pulled down by the ink. In her panic, she reaches out to you to maintain balance, but only manages to pull you down into the ink with her.

"Whoops... sorry," Io groans, before giggling in embarrassment. You can't help but chuckle as well.

"What are you people laughing about..." Soshu groans, as the ink stops pouring from his body. It was forcefully being extracted from him, and it's clearly taken a lot from him as he collapses immediately after, the ink clearing up as he does.

"Come on," Io chuckles. "Almost done."

As you pick yourself up and help Io to her own feet, your group return to the centre room.

"All of my bones are aching," Risa sighs. "At least there's only one room left..."

"Scratch that!" a familiar voice calls out as you enter. "Looks like you're all done!"

As you enter the room, you see a familiar eye-patched girl with a perennial smirk on her face. "Took you long enough to get out here!"

"Took us long enough?" you complain. "How the hell are you even here?!"

"What?" Utako chuckles. "Annoyed you couldn't sneak in on my mind and hear my secrets, huh? Hate to disappoint you, but I can handle that crap myself. Too bad my friends couldn't... neither could some of yours by the looks of it."

You scratch the back of your head. "Well, at least one of you are still active."

"Yeah, you weaklings are gonna need all the help you can get!" she laughs. "Come on, Miyoko's in trouble, and we have an ass to kick!"

You look into the dark hallway... time to meet up with the others. Before you step forward, you feel a hand on your shoulder. You turn around to face Io, a guilty frown on her face, different from her positive tone she's had all day so far.

"Hey, Kaz..." she mutters. "Ryoji is probably ahead... I just have to ask, and I want you to answer truthfully... will you be okay around the stone?"

>I don't know, but I know you can stop me from doing anything stupid.

"Right..." Io mutters. "Let's hope it doesn't come to that, but I know the control that stupid rock has over you. But if you start to panic, I'll be sure to fix it with friendship, breathing exercises and plenty of hugs. I'm still holding you to that dinner, by the way."

"I didn't verbally agree to it," you point out.

"Maybe," Io winks, "But you didn't have to."

Io rubs your arm comfortingly, before you and the group make your way through the hallway in order to meet up with the rest of Class 2.

"So Utako, what can you do in battle?" you ask.

"For one, I'm at least twice as strong as all of you people," she remarks. "Weapons-wise, I've got my cannons, and my cutlass for getting up close."

You step through the dark hallway, finding a set of stairs descend into even further darkness. You can't even see in front of your face, cautiously taking a step forward one by one, until you step out into large room illuminated by candlelight. "Huh... I expected something out of Miyoko's mind," you remark.

"What, you think she'd be caught in one of those things in the first place?" Utako laughs. "No way! She's our leader for a reason. Her mind is like a fortress... plus, she was a Demon host much longer than the rest of us... a hell of a lot longer."

You step into the room... and are quickly knocked down by a young woman being flung towards you. Thankfully, you're able to break Miyoko's fall, though she looks horribly beaten up.

"What the hell did this?!" Utako asks before quickly getting her answer, as a giant club almost takes her head off as it flies at her. In the centre of the room, surrounded by a badly beaten up Class 2, is a massive ogre or orc-like creature. Another creature born from Yami's twisted mind, no doubt.

"Be careful..." a prone Ken groans. "It's strong... and it caught us by surprise... we didn't have time to..."

"Well, we're prepared!" Utako punches her open palm with determination, as the rest of you draw your weapons.

"Hey Gado, defend me!" Anri yells, barking orders on what to do. "Look for weak points everyone! The eyes, the angles, try to slow it down! It looks big and strong, so if it hits us, we'll be in serious trouble! Scary eye-patch lady, you look strong! I command you to draw it's attention!"

You nod in agreement with the plan as you charge towards the orc, slicing at it's ankles with your sword. You connect handily, and you manage to draw blood, but it doesn't feel like you hurt it in any lasting way. This monster might require a lot of damage before you can even tell if it's been hurt. Thankfully, you have a heavy hitter in the form of that former Archdemon.

Risa aims for the eyes and fires readily upon the orc, hurting it, but not managing to blind it. It's so damn tough... Mayu goes for the other ankle and does similar damage to yourself.

"It's exceedingly powerful," Mayu mutters.

"Chuichi tries to go for the orc's arms, binding it with his ropes, but the orc easily powers out of it, tossing him across the room with ease.

Anri attempts to go for the eyes of the orc, but it moves too fast for her to hit it, while Gado stays back, defending Kuin and the rest of the ranged fighters. Io lets loose on the orc with her minigun, and with the amount of bullets she rains down upon the demon, each one hitting with perfect precision... she's able to annoy it slightly. Sae lets loose as well, doing pretty much the same. The amount of punishment you've dished upon it seems to be making it's toll, but it's too early to tell any difference.

Utako cracks her knuckles before readying her cannons. She marches forward, grabbing the orc's attention as she lets loose with heavy fire, powerful enough to cause the orc to take a step back.

The orc cracks it's neck in return, before speaking, just as all the others have. "Son... you have to be a man..."

The orc readies it's club and slams it into the ground, causing a shock-wave through the ground, causing the ground to give way beneath the entire group.

The shockwave is powerful, but you're able to leap to safety as the ground cracks and crumbles beneath you. Most of your group are, but Sae is too busy angrily opening fire to pay attention, and ends up falling to the floor and hurting her spine. Utako is knocked down too, as the two impulsive a tough girls in the party groan in pain.

"I'm worried, Kazuma..." Mayu mutters, the uncomfortable atmosphere between the two of you disappearing during battle. "This foe is perhaps the toughest we've fought so far. It seems that Yami placed a lot of energy into the creation of this monster. Even with Utako... we may not be able to defeat this one."

"Have faith," you reply. "We'll come out on top. I promise."

"It's difficult to have faith when we see how easily it took down Class 2," Anri mutters.

"Not as easy as you think!" The voice of Akio Naito calls out as he flies through the air, hitting the orc with enough force from his massive spear to fire it back, preventing it from attacking with another shockwave. The orc is then attacked once more by an attack from Ken Tajiri, as well as some high-speed slashing from Chihiro Toriyama.

"Don't forget, I'm the most powerful human on the planet!" Akio boasts.

"And we have a healer of our own," Ken clarifies. "Hiro had just enough energy to patch us up. We're not going down so easy."

"How dare you, you brute!" Chihiro yells at the orc. "Attacking us by surprise, then so cruelly attacking our class 1 babies? Nobody hurts our precious kouhai!"

Io giggles in amusement.

"What's so funny?" you ask.

"She was your first kiss," Io smirks.

"Yeah, great..." you sigh, as the three members of Class 2 ready themselves for another attack on the orc.

The members of Class 2 move with incredible determination, with Chihiro moving at dazzlingly fast speed as she slices away at the orc's ankles, piling on with the damage started by yourself and Mayu, while Ken leaps high up and smashes his rod into the face of the orc, pulling it's attention away from Akio, who is jumping high into the air... incredibly high into the air... impossibly high.

With the orc distracted, Akio comes crashing down upon it with his spear.

"DEEP IMPAAAAAAACT!"

Akio yells out as he begins to heat up like a meteor making impact with the earth, coming down hard upon the orc with such fury and force that a small blast radius is formed, a crater appearing beneath the demon. Akio smirks as he twirls his spear around with flair, leaping back. "Yeah, I know. I'm awesome."

Damn... you knew Class 2 were good, Naito especially... but that was something else. And these people follow Ryoji of all people...

Despite the force of the move doing a considerable amount of damage to the orc, it's still able to pick itself back up, the Deep Impact coming a little too early to finish the monster off. It swings wildly with it's arm, knocking you back towards a wall, where you land next to the barely conscious Miyoko. It's then that you notice something on the ground next to her... something that must have rolled out of her pocket when she was flung across the room... something Ryoji must have given to her in order to hide it from Yami... the stone. Without thought, you pocket it, simply to keep it hidden for the time being, before picking yourself back up and returning to battle.

You leap back into action, as the orc is straining in pain from the power of Akio's attack. "Your stepmother is in shambles... I hope you're proud of yourself..." the orc groans, as the rest of you ready your weapons.

"This thing doesn't say much, but I still want it to shut up!" Sae yells.

"Damn straight!" Utako chuckles. "Let's finish it off this time!"

As Io begins to patch up Ken, Kuin points a finger towards the orc. "The big boom move hurt it bad, everyone finish it off!"

With that, you spring into action, though your mind may be elsewhere as your attack manages to miss the orc. Thankfully, your friends are able to pick up your slack, with Risa blasting away at the orc with her shotgun, Sae filling it with lead, Anri and Gado blasting it in the face with the determination, all the while with Chuichi pinning it down so that it can't move, allowing Mayu to come up close and slash at the back of the orc's thick neck, causing it to cry out in pain.

"My turn," Utako smirks as she readies a larger cannon attached to her wrist. "Say night-night!"

Utako unleashes a massive cannon from the turret, which punctures its way through the orc's chest, leaving a massive hole in the process of finishing the orc off. It falls back, gasping for air, as it groans out it's final words.

"I only ever wanted you to be a good man... sometimes I regret having you..."

The orc melts away, as the rest of Class 2 and Miyoko pick themselves off the ground.

"Dammit, I can't believe I missed the latter half of the fight!" Rei Arisato exclaims in anger.

"Temper, temper!" Chihiro wags her finger and winks. "I'm sure the lovely Hiro would have healed you if you were in range!"

"Yeah, and I would have kicked the crap out of that thing!" Rei replies, clutching her ribs in pain.

As the orc dies, a door at the end of the room flies open, with Ryoji Shida bursting into the room and falling to his knees. "Dammit... that was a close one..."

He looks up to the rest of you, and nods dutifully. "Oh hey guys, what brings you to this neck of the woods?"

Ken smiles and helps his friend to his feet. "Ryoji! Thank god you're okay!"

"Yeah..." Ryoji mutters. "Wait, where's Saki? Sak! If she's hurt, I swear-"

"She'll be fine," Ken assures him. "Hell, she was still determined to charge through here on little energy."

"Sounds like her..." Ryoji smirks. "Good to see you guys here. After that Yami freak realised I didn't have what he wanted, he ran off further into this death-trap, and I had to make my way through a bunch of his crazy creations to get here... times like these are when I'm glad for that whole demon regeneration power thing..."

"Wait, you don't have the stone?" Ken asks.

"Nah, I gave it to Thinker to throw Yami off," Ryoji explains.

"Indeed," Miyoko smiles as she joins the conversation. "But I'm afraid I no longer have it."

"What the hell?" Ryoji snaps. "Then who-"

"It's currently in the pocket of our friend here!" Miyoko explains cheerfully with her hands planting on your shoulder.

"Kaz?" Io asks in a hurt tone. "Oh, please don't tell me you..."

"I was just holding onto it for a sec," you clarify. "Don't worry."

"Of course, I'm sure Kazuma will realise the gravity of the situation and know that if we are to defeat The Darkness, then the stone may have to be used by The Stranger," Miyoko explains. "Of course, even realising that fact may not matter. The recklessness of youth and the cocksure attitude I have seen in the past leads me to believe that there is a chance that Kazuma could sabotage your operation out of a sentimental obsession imposed upon a meaningless item."

Ryoji groans. "Look Kouha-Kazuma... I know we've had our difference in the past, but if we're going to take this freak down... I might need that stone. Without it, I could see the people I love getting hurt or dying, and I'm sure you're not fond of seeing that yourself. So give me the stone... and I don't say this often... please."

Don't do it, Kazuma... a voice in your head calls out to you... the voice of your father... Don't do it... it's all a trick... an illusion... the safest hands have always been your own...

>Give Ryoji the stone

You take a deep breath as you reach into your pocket and pull out the stone, flicking it like a coin through the air as Ryoji handily catches it. "Go ahead," you say. The voices in your head stop almost immediately, reassuring you of your decision. "If all these people trust you... then I can too."

"Thanks," Ryoji nods as he place the stone in his own pocket. "You're not going to regret this."

You smile and nod as you turn around, faced immediately by a happy smiling Io, who leans in and kisses you lightly on the cheek. "Whoa, what was that for?" you ask.

"What else?" Io laughs. "For being so proud of you, therapy buddy! Hey, I know if Kiriko was still conscious she'd do the same, so maybe I should do it again to make up for her?"

"Don't push your luck," you chuckle.

Io giggles in turn. "Can't blame a girl for trying!"

"Kazuma..."

You turn around to see Mayu slowly walking up to you. Before you can ask what's wrong, she slowly wraps her arms around you in a brief hug. "Thank you, Kazuma."

"No problem..." You smile. "That stone's not mine anymore..."

Chuichi looks over to you and Mayu and sighs, before Miyoko grabs your attention by snapping her fingers. "In a sense, was it ever truly yours to begin with? As a regular human, you're truly incapable of handling it."

"Well, I wouldn't call any of us normal humans," you shrug. "After all, we are awakened."

Miyoko wags her finger. "Ah, but not fully!"

An uncomfortable silence fills the air after Miyoko's comment. Akio is the first to speak up. "Wait... what the hell is that supposed to mean?"

"I felt my comments were simple," Miyoko raises an eyebrow.

"They totally were, but y'gotta talk extra slow to get through to these blockheads!" Utako laughs.

"No need to be rude, Utako, but still... I will clarify," Miyoko explains. "None of you are truly awakened beings. You do not have the powers required of such a position. Not yet, at least, though you are all capable of it."

"Okay... elaborate," Ken remarks.

"Well, have you often wondered why some humans can attain awakening while others can't? Why have some received this incredible blessing? Those with these powers have been granted as such by the spirit of The Elder One himself-"

"Wait, that god that blondie's obsessed with?" Gado asks. "She and her brother aren't just nuts?"

"As such that the Darkworld has been inhabited by greater demons," Miyoko continues to explain, "So too did the Elder One fill this world with their counterpart, beings that can push back the dark and fight against it."

"So... what?" you ask. "They way you word it, it sounds like you're saying we're all angels or something."

"Heavens, no!" Miyoko chuckles. "I'm not saying that!"

"Oh good-"

"I'm saying that none of you are angels yet," she clarifies, cutting you off. "Your current powers are not at that level as of yet. You cannot be awakened to your true powers as simply as encountering the Darkworld. No, what you believe to be your awakening is in fact little more than... and awareness. Your true awakening takes so much more, yet therein lies the potential for greatness. Still, none of you are truly awakened, none of you have earned your titles."

"Our titles?" you ask.

Miyoko nods. "Of course, just as each Archdemon bears a title, so too does each Archangel."

"Wow... that's a lot to take in..." Risa mutters.

"Yeah, well now's not really the time to think about it," Ryoji explains.

"Easy for you to say, you're not a potential angel!" Sae exclaims. "You've got your freaky powers from the other side!"

"We have Yami right where we want him," Ryoji presses on. "We're going to get moving."

"I never thought I'd say this, but... Ryoji's right," you sigh. "Yami can't get away this time. We can take him down once and for all."

You nod as Ryoji gives you a comforting pat on the shoulder. "You ready, kouhai?"

"As ready as I'll ever be, Ryoji."

"Call me Senpai, dammit!"

"Not a chance... now let's finish this."
