--------------------------------------------------------------------

As soon as you detonated the demolition charges, all hell broke loose.

The combined blasts of all 3 demolition charges created a loud, thundering explosion, the shock wave of which would have knocked you off your feet had you not been lying on your belly. Each explosion kicked up huge mounds of dirt, obscuring your view of the treeline where your allies lay in wait.

Less than a second after the charges went off, more parts of the hill were blasted away as the M22 Locust tanks and the anti-tank guns that your allies possessed thundered into life. and while many of the shots missed, some found their marks in the firing-slits of some of the remaining bunkers. The high-explosive shells detonated the ammunition inside the bunkers and set them off like fire-crackers.

Almost immediately after that, the tell-tail crackle of gunfire erupted as machine guns on both sides began to open fire. You watched as the Locust tanks at the base of the hill began to push up the hill with infantry behind them. MG-42 rounds bouncing off the reinforced frontal armour of the tanks.

As the tanks reached halfway up the hill, the SS began to get their act in order, and they released a pack of 5 panzerhunds to engage the tanks. The great metal beasts charged out of the Märchenland's front entrance. Only to run into a barrage of fire from the anti-tank guns and heavy machine guns that the assault force had brought with them.

The first panzerhund fell to a 37mm shell to the body, blowing the metal beat to scrap. The second and third ones were ripped to shreds by concentrated .50 calibre machine gun fire. The fourth stopped for a second to dodge around the corpse of it's pack-mate, only take a rocket to the front-leg. This rocket blew the leg away and stopped the great beast long enough for an anti-tank gun to blow it to pieces.

The final panzerhund reached the first locust tank and dodged a shot from the tank's cannon. The beast barrelled into the tank, crushing the tank's forward armour and the driver before then backing up and pouncing onto the turret.

You watched in horror as the panzerhund grabbed the tank commander with it's razor-sharp teeth and pulled him out of the tank's turret. It stopped for a second to shake the poor man around like a chew toy before finally biting him in half as the infantry behind the tank peppered the beast with rifle-fire.

The beast made ready to pounce, but was stopped in it's tracks by an anti-tank shell to it's chest. The beast seemed to stop in rigor-mortis for a few seconds, before a second shell punched through it's head, the force of the shot blowing the head clean off the beast and toppling it in front of the stricken tank.

This shell passed through the panzerhund's head, and impacted the hill barely 10 meters in front of you, kicking up a spray of soil as it landed. The impact of the shell caused one of the soldiers behind you to squeal involuntarily.

You would have chuckled, had you not noticed a squad of SS soldiers poke their heads out of the destroyed bunker in front of you. The squad began to fire pot-shots down at your advancing comrades from their position, completely unaware that you were barely 15 meters up hill to them.

You didn't wait for the SS squad to get out of the bunker. Instead, you decided to take them out as quickly as you could.

You quickly got up to a crouch and waited for a few seconds for the rest of your section to get up. As soon as they were up, you began to make your way towards the bunker with your monitor raised. Your rifle was flicked to fully automatic, so if anyone even twitched in your direction then you would fill the bunker with lead.

You stopped about 5 meters away from the bunker and put down your rifle as you retrieved a hand grenade from your harness. The fist-sized device, aptly nicknamed the pineapple after the grooves that covered it.

You looked over your shoulder to see that Logan had already taken the hind and was pulling a grenade off his belt. He looked over at you and watched intently as you made to pull the pin on the grenade.

You pulled the pin out of the grenade with a hard tug with your left-hand, the pin popping out of place with a metallic ping. You then cocked your arm back and threw the grenade into the open bunker. Logan following up with his grenade a second later.

You threw yourself flat on the ground as the grenade flew through the air, pressing yourself flat to avoid any shrapnel. Your section followed your lead as you snatched up your rifle and shouldered it.

You didn't see the grenades land, but you barely heard one of the SS soldiers yell a warning to his comrades. But they barely had time to react as the grenades went off a second later, sending body parts flying.

>Charge into the bunker, kill anyone still there.
>Wait for a couple of seconds to see if anyone pushes out.

Precede our entry with another grenade. Explosives are cheap, lives are expensive. We can always loot back more grenades, but we can't loot back dead squadmates.
>>
You quickly stood up and made your way towards the bunker, your weapon raised to your shoulder as you advanced. The constant crackle and roar of rifles and cannons fading away as you focused your mind.

You came to a stop just above the bunker as you stopped for a second to survey the damage the pair of grenades had wrought.

There had been 8 men in the bunker, all of them were now corpses missing various parts. From what you could see, one of the soldiers had lept onto one of the grenades in a vain attempt to shield his comrades from the blast. His remains were blown into halves, his guts having showered across the bunker. The rest of the corpses had been destroyed my the other grenade, the shrapnel from the explosive device having killed them before they could move to safety.

Your thoughts were brought back to the present by one of your squadmates tapping you on the shoulder. You looked over at him and saw the grenade in his hand, his intent the throw it further into the bunker being as clear as possible.

You nodded to him and took a few steps back as he pulled the pin. The soldier then went over to where you had been leaning over and threw the grenade deeper into the bunker itself, aiming to kill anyone who had hidden from the first grenades.

The single, muffled thud marked the detonation of the grenade. You quickly dashed towards the bunker and dived in, your boots making a disgusting squelching noise as your boots landed in a puddle of something that was once a person.

The bunker extended into a small corridor that ended with a T-junction. The scarring on the walls from the shrapnel told you that the grenade had gone off at the end of the T-junction. from what you could see, there was what looked like a bloody poking out of the intersection.

>Go left at the intersection.

Our job is to force them to divert men to retake these bunkers so the main force has an easier time, not to take them ourselves. Once reinforcements arrive to properly contest the position, we can move on to fuck up another bunker.
>>
"So, what's the Eugen?" Logan asked from just behind you as you made your way down the corridor, headed towards the T-junction.

You were silent for a couple of seconds as you peeked around to the right, finding the corpse of an SS officer about 2 meters down the hall, the blood pooling under him telling you that he was very dead.

You reached the intersection and swung out to the left, finding nothing but the corpse of the SS soldier at your feet. His legs having been blown off by the blast of the grenade.

"Get the others up here, we're holding this position until reinforcements arrive." You replied calmly as the gunfire outside continued, marking the continuation of the battle.

"Sure. Hartbern, Walker, get up here!" Logan barked back at your comrades as you kept your eyes fixed down the left corridor.

As the pair took their positions at the corridor, you decided what to do while you waited for for comrades to arrive.

>Loot the corpses, maybe some stuff survived the grenades...
>Take a peek out the bunker and see how the battle is going. Maybe help out your comrades if you have the chance.

Checking on the battle only takes one pair of eyes, and the corridor is concerning. We can either set one man to loot and two to guard, or two to loot and one to guard. Given that we're not sure how long we'll be staying here, two guards makes me feel safer.

Need a tiebreaker, will you see how the battle is going and have an ally loot the bunker, or will you do the looting yourself?

Shit, arrived late to the party.
>>
"Logan, do you mind searching the bunker for anything useful?" You asked Logan as Hartbern and Walker took up positions at the T-junction. Logan seemed to pause for a couple of seconds, before then sighing.

"I guess... give me a bit to find something to cover my hands..." Logan replied, before beginning to search for something to cover his hands from the blood. As he searched, you took a look outside at the battle.

From what you could see, many of the remaining bunkers had been either knocked out or were otherwise silent. Of the remaining pair of defences, one was taken out by a flamethrower while the other one was silenced by a soldier spraying his machine gun through the bunker's vision slit as the gun crew reloaded.

With the combat now moving into the facility, many of the units at the base of the hill began to move up the hill. AT guns were quickly towed up the hill by jeeps while squads of infanrty ran alongside them.

However, the assault had not been without it's casualties. Even from your position in the bunker, you could see that a pair of locust tanks had been destroyed. The first being the lead tank that had been savaged by a panzerhund, it's turret had been blown off an the tank's carcass was burning as it's fuel burned away.

The second locust had suffered a far more ignoble fate, one of it's tracks had been blown off while it was moving, forcing it to turn and present it's weak side armour to the enemy guns. The telltale puncture wounds from where autocannon shells had punched through the thin amour were visible on the flank that faced you.

Many soldiers had been killed in spite of the rolling tank cover. Their bodies littered the hillside as their comrades recovered weaponry, ammunition and dog tags from their fallen brothers. It was an unsavoury job, but an essential one, given your current circumstances.

"Logan, have you found anything?" You asked as you waved over to an advancing squad, who lowered their weapons and jogged towards you.

"I've got... three German grenades, some knives, an MP-40 with a few mags, some Luger mags and what looks like a suppressor?" Logan reported as you turned to look at him. He held out the long, cylindrical object to you, and you took it off him along with the Luger magazines and grenades after you slung your rifle over your shoulder.

"Have you checked any of those boxes?" You asked as you pulled your Luger from it's holster and tried to attach the suppressor. The suppressor slipped partially over the barrel of the Luger, and secured in place with a collar-like attachment system.

"Not you, give me a second to get on of them open." Logan shrugged as he slung the MP-40 over his shoulder, adding to his collection of weaponry.

You turned around in time to nod in greetings to the soldiers that arrived at the bunker. "Is the bunker secure?" One of the soldiers asked as you stuffed the Luger magazines into your pockets.

"Everything up to the T-junction, we've been waiting for reinforcements before we push any further in." You replied calmly, the soldiers were silent for a few seconds as they realised that you were in fact German, before they snapped back to reality.

"Good, we'll keep this bunker locked down, you and your section should head over to the main entrance, Major Trent wants to speak-" The sergeant began to relay your new orders to you, only to be cut off by Logan.

"Hey, Berkahrd!" Logan called out to you. "Take a look at this shit."

You quickly nodded to the sergeant before taking a look at what Logan had found.

Inside one of the boxes, seemingly untouched by the explosion, was what looked like a small flamethrower. The weapon itself looked like it was made up of a number of spare parts, including parts from an MG-42. However, the weapon was only the size of a a rifle, and was less bulky than the typical flamethrowers used by both sides in the war.

"So..." Logan began slowly, the happiness in his voice telling you that he wanted that weapon. "Can we keep it?"

"Are you sure? Using a flamethrower in close quarters seems a bit stupid to me." You asked, before then noting the number of weapons that Logan was carrying. "You seem like you have enough weaponry."

"Nah, I was planning on giving Romeo the MP-40 and giving you the shotgun back now that you've ditched the demo charges." Logan explained, before then adding. "Besides, this wouldn't be here unless the guys defending this base didn't want to use it underground."

"Unless it's to dissuade people from throwing grenades into the bunker..." You suggested as Heartbern and Walker joined you, their positions having been relieved by the new squad.

"Yeah, a fat load of good it did those guys... but still, I think we could use it more effectively, right?" Logan suggested as he ran his hand over the weapon.

"Leave it, the new squad here will have better use for it." You instructed Logan as you picked up the weapon and handed it to one of the members of the releif squad.

"Thanks, we'll be moving up an AT gun here, so we'll probably use the flamethrower to keep enemy infantry off the gun crew." The sergeant thanked you as you handed the flamethrower to one of his soldiers. He then saluted you. "Good luck out there Fritz, I'll see you on the other side."

"Hopefully we'll survive this... but if not then I'll see you there." You replied as you returned the salute before turning to leave, your 4 man section following you out the bunker and towards the entrance.

"You know, I can see why you didn't want me to take the flamethrower, but I still don't like leaving all that firepower behind." Logan said calmly as you ran toward the entrance to the facility, the large doors having been forced to stay open by a number of shots from anti-tank guns.

"It doesn't matter, we'll probably find better weapons inside the facility." You replied calmly as you arrived at the open gate, the breach now being secured from outside attack by the remaining pair of Locust tanks.

Inside, soldiers moved with purpose as they went about their tasks. Some gathered boxes and armour plates to shore up defences, some dragged the corpses of SS soldeirs into the corners of the large hanger like room. Finally, some took sledgehammers and cutting torches to the few deactivated panzerhunds that laid around, one having allready been decapitated by a soldier with a cutting torch.

The Major and the rest of your squad was standing in the centre of the room, waiting for you and the rest of your section to arrive. Strasse remained in the small gaggle of infantry, her hands remaining tied, even though she was no longer blindfolded.

You quickly made your way to the group and saluted the major. "Reporting as ordered sir, what's the plan?"

"We were hoping that you would help us come to that decision corpral." Trent becan as he turned to face you, turning away in tome to not catch Strasse trying to make her way over to you, only to be held in place by Romeo.

"I still think that pushing deeper into the facility is a good idea. We have an asset that has been here before, and somewhat knows the lay of the land so to speak." Gilmore spoke up impatiently, giving voice to his disregard for the chain of command. "And either way, we came here to cause as much damage as possible!"

"If we send you in then we will be down a number of soldiers that we could better use defending the facility from counter-attack." Trent turned back to Gilmore, his voice turning more and more sour by the second. "And your little prisoner here is a very valuable hostage, if we keep her up here, then we can use her as a bargaining chip against General Strasse."

"Then keep her here with you then! Let us do the job we came here to do!" Gilmore began to press even harder, only for Trent to turn away, ignoring his protests.

"So, what's your decision? I don't want to pull rank unless absolutely necessary, hence why I'm waiting for your input." Trent asked with forced calmness, the constant pushing from Gilmore obviously rubbing him the wrong way.

"I think that we should push deeper into the facility, we're here for a reason, and that is to cause as much damage as possible." You began, your first sentence causing Trent to deflate a bit while Gilmore seemed to puff up a bit from your support. "However, I think that leaving Strasse behind with the major would be a good idea. That way he can use her to buy us some more time to destroy as much as we can."

As soon as you were finished, you surveyed the responses from Trent, Gilmore and Strasse. You took you cues off their body language and their facial expressions. Trent seemed to mull over your suggestion for a bit while Gilmore simply smiled and nodded at your assessment. Strasse however looked shocked at your suggestion, her eyes widening and her face becoming slightly paler as the implications dawned on her.

"Sounds good to me, that way we get to continue the mission while the Major get's his bargaining chip." Gilmore agreed, before then addressing the major. "Wouldn't you agree that this is mutually beneficial major?"

Trent was silent for a few seconds, before then nodding. "Yes... I suppose that you are right in that regard... That's reasonable enough."

"Splendid!" Gilmore clapped his hands together, before then addressing the squad. "Gear up gentlemen, it's time to earn our pay-slip!"

As you unit cheered, Romeo let go of the now rather startled Strasse. And with this instant of freedom, she bolted. But instead of running for the exit, or for a corner to cry in, she ran at you.

Even though her hands were taped into padded fists -courtesy of Romeo-, her arms remained untied, letting her latch onto you with the strongest hug she could muster, latching onto you with all her might.

"No, No, No, please don't leave. I-I'll be a good girl, I'll do everything you want me to do, anything and everything, please don't leave me!" Strasse began to babble in German, the native language that you both shared. She stuttered slightly as she continued to babble in abject terror, the prospect of you leaving her with the person who had suggested throwing her to the beasts that she had just seen rip a man in half like a chew-toy.

"Well, looks like someone doesn't want you to go." Trent said dismissively as he took out a cigarette and lit it. He took a long drag from the cigarette before speaking again. "You still want to do this?"

>Continue as planned, one more broken heart isn't that big of an issue. What with the very real chance of dying in the next hour or two.

As much as I hate to take someone that is detrimental to the mission, she might compromise the others with her current behavior.
>>
You were silent for a few seconds as you mulled over your answer, while Strasse was certainly needed here, if you stayed with her then your unit would be down a major asset. After all, how many people in the strike force knew German?

"Time's running corporal, we need a decision, now." Trent pushed you for an answer as you took a hand off your rifle and gently returned Strasse's paniced hug.

You sighed to yourself, before giving your answer with as much conviction as you could muster. "I think that she should come with us, she's emotionally comprimised right now and leaving her might make her comprimise the mission. While I would prefer for her to stay here, that would require me to stay, and that would be a major loss to my unit."

Trent stared at you for a second and frowned. "And how would you be such a boon for your unit? What's to say that they can't do this without you?"

"Nobody in my unit knows German, they would likely get lost in the base. And that would make all of our efforts for naught. Plus Strasse knows the layout of the base well enough, so she might be useful in helping us navagete the base in search of valuable things to destroy." You paused for a gouple of seconds, before then adding. "I overheard a pair of SS soldiers talking about occult studies and bio-mechanics sections of the base, I'm pretty sure that they would hold some things that would be worthwhile to destroy."

Trent seemed to consider this for a moment as the soldiers in the room continued their preparations for the coming attack. Trent finally sighed, before nodding in reluctant approval.

"Fine, take her with you then. But do not let her out of your sights, that's an order. Do you understand me, corporal?" Trent ordered you, you nodded in response.

"Understood sir, I won't let you down." You replied confidently, Trent nodded in acceptance at your confirmation.

"At least more than you already have..." He grunted with real venom as he looked past you, towards the entrance. "Now get moving, we don't have any more time to waste."

And with that, Major Trent left you for what might as well have been the last time, your chances of seeing him again being slim to none.

Your unit stood in place for a couple of seconds, before Gilmore noticed the lull and took action. "Well, I suppose that we have dilly-dallied for long enough right now, let's get a move on now."

"Not yet." You spoke up, causing Gilmore to stop and stare at you. "We need more ammunition and explosives if we are to do this properly."

"He's got a point." Romeo spoke up as he unfolded the stock on his new MP-40. "I've only got a pair of spare mags for this thing."

"Fine, take a minute to grab whatever you can get your hands on, explosives, magazines, whatever. Meet up at the large doors over there." Gilmore ordered as he gestured towards the large set of metal doors on the other side of the room, he then began addressing you. "Meanwhile, I want you to get her calmed down. I don't want one of my most competent soldiers being dragged down by a dead weight."

You simply nodded as you slung your rifle over your shoulder. You then leaned forward and hooked your right arm under Strasse's ass, lifting her off her feet while you used your left hand to hold her close to you to maintain your balance. Strasse yelped in shock as you picked her up, but she quickly wrapped her lags around your waist as she fought to get a better grip on you.

As your unit separated apart to scavenge ammo and explosives, you took Strasse off to an empty side-room. The only hints at former occupants being a number of bullet craters on the wall and a large blood stain.

As you carefully set Strasse down on one of the empty tables in the room, Strasse managed to suppress her pathetic whimpers long enough to talk.

"W... When you said that you... you were going to leave me with that horrible man... I... I just..." Strasse tried to explain, only to break down again, hugging you tightly as she cried for the 3rd time today.

You looked down at Strasse and gave her a reassuring smile as you spoke. "I won't leave you Klara, as long as you don't go running back to the SS... I can never serve under the Swastika again."

Strasse was silent for a few seconds as she took in your answer. "If you're worried about your defection then you don't have to worry about it... I'm sure that my father could work something out in return-"

"It's not my defection that would stop me from serving my country again, it's a question of morality. I cannot in good faith support a country that turns a blind eye to the slaughter of civilians..." You paused for a couple of seconds, before then adding. "Besides, defection and killing your fellow countrymen are both counted as treason. I'm guilty of one count of the former and around twelve counts of the latter, there's no coming back from that."

Strasse was silent for a couple of seconds as she took in the news, so you took this as the que to move onto a more relevant topic.

"Anyway, discussions about the future should rest until later. Right now, I need to know how to get to the occult studies and bio-mechanics sectors. Do you know the way?" You asked as you tried gently to pull away from Strasse, she attempted to hold onto you, but eventually settled for you holding onto her arm.

"I've never been to those areas, father and my older sister would spend a lot of their time there, even though I was forbidden from entering..." Strasse trailed off for a second as she figured out how best to get there. "As far as I know, there are 2 routes we can take. The first takes us through the barracks and supply stores, meanwhile the other would be a straight run through the panzerhund assembly line."

"Which one do you think would be the best?" You asked calmly as you helped Strasse up and lead her towards the doors where your comrade waited.

"I'm not sure, the assembly line would be the most direct, but as it runs through the entire facility, there will be a lot of defences. Meanwhile the route through the barracks is longer but should be less defended... ultimately, the choice is yours." Strasse explained as you reached the unit, every one of them carrying bulging packs filled with explosives.

"You finally done? Good." Gilmore didn't even give you time to finish before beginning the briefing.

"We'll be pushing through the panzerhund assembly line for this, we'll blast everything on the way and cause as much damage as possible. So unless you have any better ideas then speak up now, because we're heading into a firefight right now."

"I was just talking with Strasse about routes to the occult studies and bio-mechanics sectors, she knows of a route through the barracks that should get us there." You pointed out the route to your squad, causing them all to look at you.

"And? Our job here is to take out the panzerhund production line. We smoke out the production line and it'll put a dent in panzerhund development that the reich won't recover from for a while." Guzman spoke up incredulously, his voice causing Strasse to try and move behind you for cover.

"Because if we take out whatever is there then we can cause damage that the reich may never recover from." You returned calmly, not even rising to Guzman's bait.

"Can we reach those areas from the panzerhund line?" Logan asked as he passed your old shotgun to Walker. You wouldn't need the shotgun now that you were running protection for Strasse.

"Y-Yes, but you will encounter a lot of resistance if you charge down the panzerhund line. It's meant to be heavily defended in case of a breach, so you would be walking into a fortified location." Strasse spoke up meekly from beside you, the only thing holding her in place being your grasp on her arm.

"And the barrack route is less defended?" Gilmore asked calmly, to which Strasse nodded.

"Yes, but it's also longer as you have to gut through many rooms and corridors. Hence why I recommend it..." Strasse explained as calmly as she could, which was quite a feat, considering everything that had happened to her in the last few hours.

"I say that we take the barracks route, it's longer, but less resistance means that there will be fewer people defending the important sections, leaving it open to an easy smash and grab op." Romeo suggested as he cocked his MP-40, only for a round that had already been chambered to be ejected. Hartbern and Walker being among the small group that nodded in approval of Romeo's sugestion.

"I think we should just take the panzerhund line, fuck what that Nazi bint's been saying, she's probably trying to lead us into a trap." Gimore spoke up, a couple of the other guys nodding in approval.

"As much as I hate to agree with Gilmore, but if we can reach those areas from the panzerhund line then why bother with the other route?" Logan suggested, before then adding. "That being said, I think that we should get some support for this, maybe one of the locusts or a jeep and some more guys."

"Those men are needed at the defences Logan, we can't take them with us without compromising the defence and reducing the time we have to cause damage." Gilmore reminded Logan, essentially bringing the discussion to a standstill as everyone took their sides.

Aso, for the guy that asked: "How are things with the Italians and Spanish?"

The Spanish revolution ended with a fascist victory, but due to the damage inflicted by the civil war, the are sitting out for now, recovery efforts are being aided by the Germans and Italians, but OSS raids have caused delays. Meanwhile, the Italians are currently ties up in Africa, the British there are still begin stubborn, but the appearance of heavier German support has forced the British back.

As your comrades began to bicker, you decided to interject to move the conversation on.

"I agree with Romeo, the barracks route will be faster that a firefight through the production line." You paused for a couple of seconds, before then adding. "Besides, another squad and one of the Locusts would be better suited to the task of razing the production line."

Romeo nodded at you with as smile in recognition of your support, Logan simply shrugged as he accepted your view on the situation. Guzman and a couple of the other soldiers gave you an incredulous look as you greed with abandoning your objective.

"I can see the merits with both... however, Eugen makes a good point. Our original objective can be accomplished far quicker and more effectively by another team with a locust for support." Gilmore began to ponder out loud. "I'm sure that Major Trent will see the merits in pushing on a more important target while another unit deals with the production line."

"Should we ditch the explosives then?" One of the soldiers in your squad piped up as he adjusted the straps on his backpack, said pack seemly bulging with spare ammunition for the lone .30 calibre machine gun that your squad was issued.

"Not right now, I wouldn't be surprised if a few of you were detached from the squad to assist in the push on the panzerhund line." Gilmore began, before then turning to leave.

"Hold on, you can't be suggesting that we trust that Nazi bint?" Guzman asked with slight anger as he gestured at Strasse.

"Did I ask for your opinion soldier?" Gilmore asked rhetorically as he turned back towards the angry private.

"I-" Guzman began, before Logan spoke up.

"God damn it Guzman, if you honestly think that we are pushing in just because of the prisoner's claims then you are incompetent." Logan sighed tiredly, the strain of the operation obviously pushing his patients. "We are pushing in because we have good reason to believe that there is something very important here, something that needs to be destroyed."

Guzman was quiet for a couple of seconds, before then turning to chat with a pair of his comrades. Logan sighed at Guzman, before then turning to chat with Romeo.

Berkhard wouldn't know anything about the 1st and the 3rd questions as he is not privy to that information. However, he would know about the submarine war in the Atlantic. In that regard, the submarine war is at a stalemate right now. The Kreigsmarine are squeezing the Atlantic convoys, but due to split funding between the surface and subsurface force, they are not able to send out as many submarines as possible.

>Russian side of the war?
The Russian side of the war is also a stalemate, operation citadel (the battle of kursk) ended in a soviet defeat, but this was at great cost to the German army groups. The lines there have broken down into a stalemate as each side builds up to break the stalemate in their favour. However, the German army was also building up for a second assault on Stalingrad, Eugen's old unit was meant to assist in the push, but they were redeployed to assist the Italians.

"So, what's your opinions on this?" You asked as you made your way over to where Logan and Romeo were chatting idly, Hartbern and Walker standing next to the,.

"I think that we might be onto something. From the sounds of it, the labs might be a far more advantageous target to destroy, or even to hold up in should things go to shit." Logan explained calmly as he handed off a knife to Romeo, who stowed the knife in his harness.

"I agree with you there... but I'm slightly worried about Guzman." Romeo spoke up as he fiddled with the front sights on his MP-40, his long rifle slung over his back.

"I agree. He seems far too eager to off Strasse for my liking." Walker agreed with Romeo as Logan offered a looted knife to you, which you turned down with a wave.

"Then we are in agreement, keep an eye on him while we accomplish the mission. Should worst cone to worst, we'll be able to react faster, should he try anything." You laid out to the small gaggle of soldiers as you took your pistol from it's holster on your right leg.

"Alright squad, rally up!" Gilmore called out to the squad as he returned back. The now slightly divided squad gathered round the sergeant as he began to brief you.

"We've been given the green light to head after the labs and restricted areas, 3rd squad and one of the locusts will push through the production line while we deal with the labs." Gilmore began, before then gesturing to the man with the .30 cal and the soldier carrying the ammunition for the gun. "You two are both going with 3rd squad, they'll need all the firepower they can get."

"What about the explosives?" Hartbern asked, seemingly enthusiastic to simply ditch the demolition charges and extra grenades.

"Leave most of it behind, but keep a few satchel charges and some more grenades. They will still be useful." Gilmore instructed the unit, before then turning to you as the unit raced to ditch the excess explosives.

"Eugen, you're going to be acting as Strasse's guard for this, you are to make sure that she doesn't leave your sight." Gilmore explained your role to you, even though you had already been ordered to do as much. "Also, do you have any preference at where you want to be in the line as we move? While I'd prefer for you to be closer to the front so that Strasse can be more useful at leading us through the facility. I completely understand it if you want to be in the middle or at the back."

>Stay near the front as you move. There may be fewer bodies between you and the enemy, but it will be easier for Strasse to guide you through.
>Stay near the centre as you move. That way you have an equal amount of protection from both the front and back, but it might be hard for Strasse to help guide you through the facility.

"We'll stay in the centre or the group, that way we'll have better protection from attacks, we can also call out directions reasonably well from there." You decided as you thumbed the safety off your pistol, the pistol's suppressor sitting in one of the pouches on your harness.

Gilmore nodded at you, before then looking back at the unit. Most of your squad mates were ready to move, those that weren't were simply picking up their weapons and were getting ready to move.

"Everybody ready?" Gilmore asked the squad, getting the attention of the unit with a single question. The remaining 6 men looked up at the sergeant and nodded, confirming that they were all ready to go.

"Good, let's get moving then, Walker is on point, Guzman is second, Grant is third, I'll go fourth, Strasse and Eugen in fifth and sixth..." Gilmore began to rattle out positions in the line, but you stopped listening after he called out your position.

"Strasse, do you have directions?" Gilmore asked your prisoner as you reached the door that seemingly lead towards the residential section.

Strasse nodded. "Yes, there are actually two ways. The first is through the main corridors while the other is through the back corridors and maintenance ways."

"Which one's faster?" Logan asked from his position in front of you.

"The first way should be faster, but we would stand the higher chance of running into prepared defences, like machine gun nests and the likes." Strasse explained as Walker opened the door and lead your unit in with weapons raised and safeties off.

"We'll head through there then, unless anybody has any objections?" Gilmore decided as you passed through the doorway.

You decided not to speak up, it would be stupid to try and skirt around any soldiers that were guarding the main corridors, you'd eventually run into them again when you put the labs to the torch.

The corridor you entered at first eventually lead into the main corridor for the barracks. The main corridor was fairly wide and was at least 2 floors high. The corridor itself was a good 10 meters wide, with stairs leading up to the walkways on the second floor. Every 50 meters, the corridor was sectioned off by large walls with in-build blast-doors. If you had to guess, it was probably to provide structural support and section the entire corridor up in case a bomb managed to penetrate into the complex.

The first section that you entered was empty, with all of the door to the adjacent rooms and corridors opened, showing empty rooms devoid of life. the blast door to the next section along was closed and locked, forcing you through one of the service doors to the side.

Walker and Gilmore stacked up on either side of one of the doors, Romeo and Logan did the same with the other door. And in almost perfect synchronisation, Walker and Logan kicked down their respective doors open, leaving the doors open for Romeo and Gilmore to throw in smoke smoke grenades. This was greeted by a long burst of machine gun and rife-fire to each door, forcing the men by each door to simply poke their weapons out each door and blind-fire at where they roughly thought the enemy was firing from.

A few seconds later, Gilmore ordered the pairs to throw in frag grenades. So as Logan and Walker readied grenades, Romeo and Gilmore sprayed automatic fire into the next section. Under this covering fire, Logan and Walker threw in their grenades. A few seconds later, the twin thumps of exploding grenades marked the push into the next section.

As one, The men by each door pushed in with another pair of soldiers, Hartbern and Gilmore to take their places by the doors while you hung back and watched the rear. There wasn't much you could do, what with having to guard Strasse. The fighting continued for another minute, the murderous reports of the firearms of each side creating a noise that was not unlike a broken phonograph, screeching a tortured symphony as choice curses were yelled by either side in English and German.

It took a few minutes for the gunfire to die-down as your comrades mopped up the enemy defenders, eventually however, you were brought through , the area having been purged of it's SS defenders.

When you finally entered, you understood why the defence had held up so well.

Perched up on a walkway, bridging between the two second-floor walkways was the remains of a machine gun nest. Said machine gun nest had been made out of what looked like a number of folded metal tables, and while it could have stopped stray bullets, it hadn't been able to stop the grenade that had blown the nest to pieces.

Additionally, on either side of the room, parked up where the service doors to the next section lay, sat a pair of defensive nests, made out of furniture scavenged from the outlying rooms. These nests had also been blown apart by grenades, their occupants having been either killed by the grenades, or gunned down before they had a chance to recover.

That wasn't to say that your unit hadn't suffered losses. Two of your comrades lay dead in puddles of their own blood, one just a few meters away from the door he had enter through, the other lying half inside a room where he had tried to take cover. Additionally, Walker was nursing what looked like a bullet wound to the arm while Logan had taken a large cut across the cheek, which he was sticking a large plaster on.

As you made towards the doors to the next room, you distinctly heard what sounded like someone scrambling with something behind one of the closed doors that nobody had bothered checking.

You paused for a couple of seconds and listened, you made to leave, but as you did you heard what sounded like someone cocking a firearm.

Instead of calling over one of your comrades, you nudged Strasse forwards and let go of her. She understood the implied message that she should keep walking while you go off to do something else.

That something else was very simple, you pulled out a stick-grenade from you harness and quickly unscrewed the protective cap on the base, exposing the pull cord that armed the grenade's 5 second timer. You held the small, porcelain ball at the end of the cord with the same hand that you currently held your pistol in as you approached the door.

You then levelled your pistol at where the door's lock should be, and fired a quick 3 shots, blowing out the doors lock. As soon as you fired the 3rd shot, you pulled the cord on the grenade, arming the 5 second fuse.

In one swift motion, you pushed the door open just wide enough for you to get the grenade in, tossed the grenade in, and then shut the door. You took a step to the side of the door and waited for a few seconds for the grenade to explode. Less than a few seconds later, the grenade went off.

"What the hell was that?" Gilmore barked at you as you quickly made your way back over to Strasse, who had frozen up in the middle of the room at the gunfire.

"I heard someone inside that room cocking a gun, so I blew them up before they could do anything." You replied as you made your way over to Strasse and grabbed her arm again, before then turning back to the sergeant. "Are we going, or what?"

Gilmore glared at you for a second, before then turning back to the rest of the squad and ordering them forward. The next section was unoccupied, as was the section after that.

When Guzman tried to open the door to the final section, he only narrowly avoided being eviscerated by two long bursts of machine gun fire. He only managed to survive by jumping back at the last second with a choice expletive. "Jeasus fuck!"

You then decided to try and get a look at what you were facing, you let go of Strasse's arm and edged up against the dividing wall. Your method of finding out what was there was very simple. You simply took out your knife and used it's polished blade to try and look in at what you were facing. You were only able to take a quick glance before the blade was shot out of your hand by a long burst of machine gun fire, but a glance was all you needed.

On the other side of the wall was what looked like a set of blast doors, similar to the ones at the entrance to the facility. However, these ones were both closed and were guarded by a pair of machine gun nests built into the walls. The section also seemed to separate off somewhere else, though you were not sure where that somewhere else was.

"Well, we aren't going to get through that..." You admitted as you walked away from the wall, instead looking for some other way past the defences.

"No shit captain obvious." Guzman spat at you as he brushed the chipped brickwork off his uniform.

"Can it Guzman, now's not the time for you to start shit." Gilmore ordered Guzman to shut up, before then turning to you. "Do you think there is any way around?"

You were silent for a couple of seconds as you surveyed the roof, tracing the lines of wide air vents to see which ones were most likely to go towards the labs. "I have an idea... I'll just need a few things."

"Tell us what you need and we'll try to find it for you." Gilman replied, and in no time flat, you had a shortlist for him. A few minutes later, you plan was taking shape.

The plan itself was very simple, you simply used a stepladder to reach up to the air vents. From there, you took a look in each vent and determined that one of them indeed reached across to the labs. After that, it was a simple affair to have your comrades look for some pillows.

Your plan was a very simple one, one-by-one, everyone in your unit would move through the ventilation shaft, using the pillows to muffle your movements. Once inside, you would eliminate the guards and destroy anything in your way.

Or just anything, destruction was pretty much mandatory.

"And who's going to go first then?" Guzman asked incredulously, the annoyance in his voice proving to be rather grating.

"I'll do it." Romeo volunteered confidently. "I'm the smallest guy here, so I stand a batter chance of sneaking in undetected!"

"Yeah, no. If anyone's going in first then it's going to be me." Logan stepped up, slapping the flat of a knife against his hand. "I'm the best knife-fighter in the company, plus I'm pretty strong."

"Now hold on there you two, maybe we should let hans here do the first run?" Guzman turned his attention back to you, and sneered at you. "If he's so confident with his idea, then we should let him test it himself."

>Go first, you have the only silenced weapon in the unit and you know German. Plus it will hopefully shut GuZman up.

"I'll go in first." You announced you the assembled group. "I'm one of the few people here who speaks German and I have the only silenced weapon in the entire unit. I am the most prepared for this."

"If you insist, good luck in there. I'll watch Strasse for you."Gilmore bid you as you made your way up the stepladder, and into the vent. The crawl as slow and tedious in the cramped and dusty shaft, but you managed to make your way to the next grate without being noticed.

The grate sat over what appeared to be a storage room of some kind, though you had no idea what was being stored due to the darkness. You quietly removed the vent cover and eased your way into the room, you then bumbled your way through the darkness until you reached a wall, it then took you a few seconds to find the light switch and flick it on.

The room you were currently inside of was an archives room of some kind, files and loose papers littered the room, cabinets lined the walls. Any allied intelligence group would call this a goldmine of information. Not that you really cared, you knew that in all likelihood, there would be more valuable things to destroy elsewhere in the labs.

As you untied yourself from the rope that you had dragged along with you, you gave it a pair of strong tugs. Sending off the signal that it was safe to pass through the vent. As you waited, you pulled your Luger from it's holster and attached the suppressor to it, the attachment locking in place with a click as you tightened the locking collar.

As soon as you were finished with attaching the suppressor, you leaned up against the door and tried to listen for an hints of the enemy outside, you held your breath and focused for a few seconds. When you didn't hear anyone outside, you slowly and carefully cracked the door open.

The room lead out into a well lit corridor with 3 other rooms before it reached a 4 way junction, standing at that junction was a pair of SS soldiers, both of them being armed with some new kind of weapon that you had never seen before. The weapon featured a large magazine with what looked like a stamped receiver. the weapon lacked much furniture, instead featuring only a basic wooden stock and pistol grip. The pair of soldiers also wore face-plates too, even though it seemed a bit unnecessary.

Additionally they sported rather weird looking insignia on their chests, some kind of stylised skull and squid mixture sat on top of a swastika. Some writing was also prevalent on the insignia, but you couldn't tell what it was because of the bright lights in the corridor.

You were distracted from your musings by the sound of someone dropping down from the vent next to you, a quick glance told you that it was Logan.

"Nice of you to drop in." You whispered to Logan without taking your eyes off the SS soldiers for even a second.

"You've been waiting on using that one for a while." Logan stated as he walked over to you. "What do you see out there?"

"Two SS soldiers in non-standard uniforms, I'm pretty sure that they are guards spesifically for the lab. They are armed with some fancy weapons too..." You reported as you gently ejected the magazine from your pistol, checked the number of bullets in the magazine, and then returned the magazine to it's original position.

"What's the plan then?" Logan asked as he passed you your rifle.

>Distract them so we can check one of the rooms, we can take them out once everyone else is here.

“We’ll lure the guards in here and kill them quietly.” You Laid out to Logan, before then adding. “Close the vent, make sure that whoever is in there stays put.”

Logan gave you a quick nod, before then making his way over to the vent. He stuck his head in and hissed the warning down at the person making the way across, before he then returned the vent grate to its rightful position.

“Vent’s closed, Romeo’s waiting in there so we’d better make it fast.” Logan reported, before then taking cover behind the filing cabinets. A pair of knives clutched in his hands. You turned around to look back at the SS soldiers to see if anything had changed, only to find yourself looking at something else entirely.

The SS soldiers were still there; they were still alive. But further down the hall behind them stood a woman. This woman stood unseen by all but you, and struck you less as a person, but more as an angel given form. She wore a long white gown, and her long black hair flowed down to her ass. She stood with her eyes closed and with a contented smile on her face.

And with the blink of your eyes, she disappeared, leaving no trace of her existence.

You stood there in shock for a couple of seconds as you tried to piece together what had happened, before you then chalked it up to stress. The mission was just getting to you, that was all.

Regardless, you pulled yourself away from the door and looked around the room for anything that could cause a noise. You found your answer in a glass gar filled with pencils, apparently used for last-minute additions to files. You carefully picked out a spot to hide in the room, before then switching off the lights and making your way over to the table where the jar sat. With one, single push, the jar fell and shattered on the cold stone floor.

By the time the SS soldiers opened the door, you were already in your position, with your pistol ready to fire. You waited for the second SS soldier to enter before drawing a bead on the first, waiting for Logan to pounce before firing.

And sure enough, Logan pounced on the second soldier. His knife finding it’s mark in the soldier’s eye, punching clean through the metal mask’s eyeglasses. The first soldier didn’t have time to react before you blew his brains out across the wall with a well-placed 9mm round to the head. The bodies of both soldiers both fell at the same time, hitting the ground like a sack of potatoes.

“Well that was easier than I thought…” Logan mused sarcastically as he made his way towards the vent.

“Indeed… I’m just going to check the nearby rooms, I’ll be back in a bit.” You replied, before then making your way towards the door.

“Sure, just make sure that you scream very loudly if you are injured. That way we’ll know where you are!” Logan instructed you jokingly as you opened the door, your response was a simple chuck, and with that, you left to check out the remaining rooms.

The first room was essentially a bathroom, complete with multiple stalls. All of which were open and unoccupied.

The second room was a small rest room, containing a pool table, some seats and a mini-bar. Unfortunately, the liquor was locked away, which was probably for the best.

The third and final room was a bedroom, it contained 4 bunkbeds and 8 lockers for the 8 people who would live inside the cramped little room. You found nothing inside other than some personal effects and an almost empty bottle of schnapps, which you polished off with a hearty swig.

With your little recontour of the closest rooms complete, you retuned to the archives, where the rest of your unit were now piling out of the vents. You couldn’t help but smile at this…

After all, now the fun really began…

I'm going to call this week's run here, I'd really thought that we would finish this week, but I guess not... We'll finish up next week and maybe have a short Pilot Quest run if we have the time.

Speaking of Pilot Quest, I'm plannoing on spacing out Pilot Quest and WWFT threads based on arcs. So we'll run an arc of WWFT, then one of Pilot Quest, then back and fourth. However, this is just a preliminary idea, so if you have a better suggestion then I'd like to hear it.

Anyways, if you have any questions then ask them and I'll answer them to the best of my abilities...

Modern .22 reproduction with a folding stock. A company by the name of SSD makes them. And the underfolders they use are from AK pattern rifles, they don't even clear the magazine.

The closest thing to an underfolder STG-44 that ever existed was a prototype that lacked a stock, which was designed to be cheaply made to arm the German populace for a list-ditch defense against the Allies.
