This Quest will follow the story of a high school student who gains the ability to manipulate certain aspects of time. Whether this student seeks to develop their powers, use them for good or for personal gain has yet to be determined.

(We will be using d100 when rolling is necessary, sometimes DC will be posted, other times they will not. Voting system will likely be time based, I will be messing around with how long vote time will be, based on how many votes they get.)
>>
You awake to a monotone chiming that belongs to your alarm clock. Straining yourself to reach it, you place your hand firmly on the snooze button and immediately roll over into bed again. You remember having a huge migraine last night, the most painful you have ever experienced. You have started getting them recently, but you wonder if school stress is making them worse. You also vaguely remember having a strange dream about a desert and time travel, but it’s hard to remember any details.

Whatever the case, your mind wanders to your sister, your mother and your school situation. The clock starts ringing again in short order, you silence it again, this time sitting up in the same motion. You rub your eyes and notice the details on your clock briefly.

You remember your mother buying you this alarm clock for your birthday, which she had the name______________engraved on the bottom.

That is a name you are used to hearing frequently, though nowhere near as much as Miki. Your sister has always been popular with her peers, especially with many young men at your school, which is not particularly pleasing to hear, especially since last time she walked home with a man mother stirred up a storm.

As you move over to the closet you get a good look at yourself in the mirror and see the face of Yu, pondering exactly what kind of face Yu has.

I dont really mind. I do, however, associate the name "Yu" with male gender. So supporting.

You take a leisurely shower and don your uniform, then head downstairs to get breakfast. Your mother is absent today as usual and you can’t be bothered cooking this morning, so you pour yourself a bowl of cereal, consuming it rather quickly, write a note informing your sister of the breakfast situation or lack of and slip out the door quietly. You walk up the street for five minutes or so, taking in the gentle warmness of the sun, still early in the sky and the sweet smells denoting the beginning of spring, when you suddenly hear a gentle voice call your name.

“Yu, do you want to walk to school with me this morning?”

Its Masumi, who most people would consider to be your best friend, which might be true, considering she is one of your only friends. She shares your passions for science but her true talents lie as a piano player. You have never met someone so young and so talented with a musical instrument. Masumi is easy to approach and talk to as well, a big plus for somebody like you. You still have an aching feeling in your head from earlier and you don’t want to make it worse, but you know she likes these almost ritual walks to school that she often misses out on due to family commitments of an early morning. An idea pops into your head suddenly, that it would be a good idea to head to the library before school, but you can’t fathom why such a thought has appeared.

Masumi looks a little disappointed, but her smile quickly returns, which lowers any guilt you have about the matter.

“Alright Yu, but I expect you to have lunch with me today instead”

“Fine by me” you quickly respond, following up with “See you later” before raising a hand, quickly pivoting around and walking off towards the library…for whatever reason.

As soon as Masumi turns the corner, you feel your heart racing in your chest, sweat is pouring down your face and you feel like you could hurl all over the sidewalk at any moment. You can’t shake the idea that somehow you know something is about to happen and you decide to at least jog to the library. You were right, somehow you knew that you needed to be here. You can see a large crowd has gathered around a tall building next to the library, you can faintly see an individual standing on the edge of the roof, facing away from you. You somehow predicted this and for some reason you now feel responsible for saving this person’s life. By the time they fall off the roof, your still too far away, at least 100 feet, you would need to cross the distance almost as fast as Usain Bolt, through a crowd.

You suddenly feel a surge of energy fill your body, your mind is cleared, the scenery goes quiet. You have never been so focused before in your life.

You rush as fast as you can, but you notice that your moving rather slowly, yet so is this falling human. None of this makes any sense, but now is not the time to think about particulars. You feel in control of this moment that seems to be moving in slow motion, but your just out of reach. You start imagining a sick scene of flesh and bone smothered on the concrete and cannot accept it. Damning the consequences, you dive low, just inches above the ground, in order to at least cushion there fall. You don’t expect to make it out unscathed, but at least you will know you tried everything.

They crash into you with incredible force, you roll twice before they slip out of your grasp and onto the concrete. You thought you had a headache before, but you never thought you would be going head to concrete today. You lie there for some time, people gather around you, a couple people take a quick photo, some others call for an ambulance, you don’t have the strength to move much, just enough to turn your head towards the man who you saved. He looks to be alive, but at least as injured as yourself. By the time Paramedics arrive on scene, a small family thank you for your heroic acts. You start to crawl to your feet, shocking onlookers and even yourself, to make it easier for the Paramedics to check up on you. They highly advise a doctor’s visit, but considering that they don’t even find evidence of a head impact, they let you go.

Somehow the migraine last night and this morning must be connected to what just happened, maybe the pain you feel now has nothing to do with being hit by a falling man. This day just keeps getting more bizarre and its only 8:00am.

You need to figure out what is happening to you, but your knowledge of many fiction works tell you to keep this hidden and to lay low, at least until you understand what is happening. You think about what a good friend like Masumi would do if they knew you were talking nonsense, would she keep it to herself, or get help on my behalf? It’s not worth the risk of them passing it on, leaving a paper trail from a doctor’s appointment would be even worse.

By the time you enter the school grounds, your thoughts are dominated by a mix of realistic adrenaline theories and possible supernatural phenomenon. Everything seems to slow down, which would be perceived by others as accelerated reactions and movements. To a certain degree, adrenaline could explain these symptoms away, but it’s just too severe a case. You may be fitter than your average joe, but you don’t remember being Usain Bolt, not to mention that you tanked someone falling from at least five stories up, without much more than a headache. Whatever the case, you pass into the classroom when the teacher is faced towards the board and slip into your seat. Some other students giggle at the sight of it and you spot Masumi beaming a smile in your direction. As soon as she notices that she has your attention however, her smile transforms into a frown and she points a finger at you for some reason.

You vaguely remember telling her that you would hang out with her today. She seems pretty dedicated to keeping you around this time for whatever reason, the best way to not draw suspicion would be to act completely normal, which means taking her up on her lunch offer. Of course, the time could be spent better, like trying to figure out this strange ability, but you don’t see any real harm in waiting a little while.

You realize that your friendship with Masumi is more important right now. Masumi is a talented woman, but her parents have expectations higher than the sky. The last few months have been tough for her, this might be her first chance to relax in a while, you won’t let it go to waste. You give her a quick thumbs up, which seems to get the message across and she returns to her work for now. Class goes slowly as you think about the morning so far. What would have happened if you didn’t know to head towards the library, would somebody else have stepped in, or would that person’s life be forfeit? The thought is chilling and it brings with it a sense of purpose, a sense that if you’re not imagining this strange ability, that it may serve as a positive tool in your life, perhaps even a driving force. You never had a clue what to do after school, you always questioned if you were capable of tertiary studies, especially from a financial view, but if this strange day bears fruit…

Grander ideas appear in your mind, you let your imagination carry you through the rest of class. Your trying to picture yourself in a costume similar to the one The Flash wears, but you can only imagine it looking ridiculous. Your startled when the bell rings in your ears, bringing back your headache for a brief round two. You take a moment for some people to clear the room before standing yourself up, heading towards Masumi. A hand suddenly finds itself on your shoulder and it startles you so much you jump up a bit and swing around. It seems to be Junichi, your lab partner, just as scrawny as always, with a gentle looking complexion, sporting glasses befitting of the image. He stands a fair bit shorter than yourself, about Masumi’s height, five foot seven being your best guess.

“Wow, you seem to be pretty wound up today Yu. Did you stay up all night watching science videos again?”

You try to relax yourself again and go with his suggestions “Yeah, always more to learn on the internet”

He does not seem entirely convinced, but moves on from it, glancing over to Masumi for a moment, then back to you “I heard your having lunch with Masumi, mind if I tag along?”

You study his expression for a hint of motive, but the only theory you come up with is that he has nothing better to do.

“No problems here, just tell me how you found out about lunch so fast”

He smirks, adjusts his glasses and replies “The way she was smiling when she got to class this morning was all I needed.” He must have realised that she has some time off from her practice from her relaxed look and filled in the blanks.

“Let’s get Masumi and look for a nice shady area outside” you suggest. He nods to you in silent agreement.

You find a nice sakura tree to park under for lunch, you produce a small bento box, containing only a single apple and a chocolate bar. You realize that you forgot to grab lunch this morning. Oh well, no big deal, you can just make a larger dinner later. Junichi produces a box full of various nutty bars, fruits and sandwiches, while Masumi pulls out a single sandwich, seeming quite content. You suddenly feel awkward, as if somebody is watching you from afar. You don’t know if this is related to earlier, but you can’t help but scan the surroundings.

Nothing. Your nerves are frayed already; the rest of the day is going to be a pain to live through. Masumi and Junichi talk about the upcoming science class with some excitement, but you just can’t seem to get into it. Feeling on edge, you head back to class when the bell rings and drone out the rest of the school day.

You think about what to do after school, you have a few hours to spare before you are expected home.

You decide that its best to look into this when your calm and collected. When thinking back, you have been rather panicked and unhinged throughout the day. The best thing to do now is to relax, forget about all this and have some fun with friends. When the final bell of the day rings, you approach Masumi and Junichi with purpose.

“Do you guys want to hang out today? We can go watch a movie or hit up the arcade, grab something to eat along the way.” It sounds almost like a sales pitch to you and judging from the look Junichi gives in response he seems to agree.

“The arcade sounds like a great idea to me” Junichi spouts enthusiastically.

Masumi looks at you with a concerned and sorry look. You know that face already, she has to go straight home to practice on her parent’s orders.

“I’m sorry Yu, my parents will be fuming if I don’t go straight home, have fun without me as usual.”

Those last words sting you like a hornet “It’s not fair that you always have to be practicing, your already so good at it, ring your parents and tell them you’re taking the day off.”

“You know I can’t do that Yu, it’s important to them, they won’t budge when it comes to this, if I’m not there, they will be twice as harsh for a week.”

Masumi looks to have resigned herself to her parent’s whims, she accepts her treatment like its exactly how she deserves to be treated. It grinds against your nerves; she needs to grow a backbone.

Junichi speaks up “Sounds pretty lame to me, but it is what it is I suppose. See you tomorrow then Masumi.”

She bows her head apologetically and starts walking out of the room. Is it really okay to just let her be strangled by her parents like that? You are effectively independent, so it’s not easy for you to understand how someone her age still follows at her parents every beck and call. You wonder if you should stop her, or if it’s not worth her clashing with her parents later.

>” Masumi, I order you to have fun this afternoon, when your parents ask where you were, tell them it’s my fault for holding you up”

So, her parents want to their daughter to be successful academically- do they put all their own missed chances onto Masumi as a burden? Like one-child Chinese? Or are they motivated by something different? Psychological Sherlock time...

It just seems like stereotypical asian parents man. Don't overthink it so hard.

Its kind of like that. They want her to be more successful than them. They are both successful in a business sense, but they see their musically gifted child as a way to fame. Hope that makes sense and sheds some light on the matter.

It’s better to back down this time, perhaps you could talk to her parents in the future.

“It’s a real shame, talk to you tomorrow Masumi”

She simply nods her head to the notion and heads to the door.

“My computer once broke down because I left it on for five days straight, playing video games the entire time. The games were great and the machine itself was a masterpiece, but it still broke down when put under constant pressure without a break. Just make sure to remember to turn off every now and then, take the time to cool down.”

She stops in her tracks, pausing for a few seconds before turning her head back towards you, she looks like she just saw a ghost, or noticed something about herself for the first time you hope.

“Thanks, Yu.” She takes her leave for good this time and you get the feeling that you brightened her mood at least a bit. You stand there for a few seconds in silence before turning to Junichi:

“It’s time for me to show you who deserves the title ‘King of the Arcade’, I hope your ready for a smack down.”

“You just pulled some smooth moves there Yu, is there anything going on between the two of you that I should know?

You prepare to tell him you have no idea what he means, until you realize you sort of referred to her as a masterpiece, but surely that came off as a compliment and nothing more, especially considering she is a musical masterpiece as far as most are concerned.

“Your genius eludes me Junichi, I was just trying to give her some legitimate advice”

He smirks and replies “So that’s the game you’re going to be playing huh?"

You ignore that last comment, eager to just get to the arcade already, you have been in this school too long today already. You really cut loose, making sure that your completely calm by the time you get home. In the end you underestimated Junichi and his skills regarding most of the arcade games, you only having the advantage with more physical games like DDR and air hockey. You don’t mind the occasional video game, usually online with Junichi, but you feel a bit bad about making that story up for Masumi. Junichi is the kind of guy that could play video games for a week straight and not even be phased by it.

After nearly three hours of gaming, you get a text from your sister that reads “where is dinner”. Clearly she expects you to cook again, but you don’t mind as long as it’s your decision as to what’s cooking. The moment you walk in the door you are bombarded by your sister with questions one after the other at a rapid fire pace.

You interrupt her as soon as you can get a word in on the subject, “Give me a moment to breathe Miki, school was great, I will tell you about all that once dinner is ready”.

You cook dinner, keeping Miki in suspense while coming up with ways to make the story even more ridiculous. You decided to stay calm about this phenomenon, making a fun story out of it will help blow off steam and might actually lower suspicion if it’s a clearly superhuman story, even if it’s the truth. You leave the food in the oven to stay warm while you spin a glorious tale of Yu, the man quickly becoming legend.

“I was headed to the gym in the morning, I finally decided to ACTUALLY TRY to get fit, to the horror of any who dare to oppose me. I was going past the library when I saw a handsome man on the rooftops, being watched by over one hundred onlookers. For whatever reason he took the plunge, I was still at least 150 feet away and the crowd was in the way, screaming out as he plummeted. I took to the track much like Usain Bolt, closing most the distance in moments, leaping the rest of the 30 feet, catching him in the air, rolling a few times with him buried safely in my arms. In mere moments, I rose up from the ground, with no injury other than a small bruise already since faded, carrying the man like he was my future bride. He cheered for me, the entire crowd was stunned by my excellence. What I did was impossible for any normal human being. Tonight’s dinner is extra-large, in celebration of your brother turning into something much more than human. I can’t wait to read it in the newspapers, I can just see the headline ‘Handsome Man, Hero of the City.”

There is a silence for at least ten seconds. Perhaps you went a little overboard, but how does one take an impossible feat to new heights without sounding ridiculous? You wait for your sister’s eventual reply.

“For a moment there you sounded really cool, but you blew it at the end, at least I might get to read about it tomorrow morning anyway. I can’t wait to see how they portray the events”.

Well, the less impressed she with the real story in comparison, the less likely it is she will spread it too far, you figure. While that was a fun story, you are still amazed by the reality of the situation. This is something that you want to have control over, you want to happen again. If you can be as quick as the flash, or even stop the flow of time itself, you could do anything.

You sit down on your bed and start brainstorming ways to bring this ‘power,’ if you could call it that out. You drink a bottle of water and place it now empty on your computer desk. You grit your teeth and lock your jaw shut, trying to focus, almost trying to deliberately cause yourself pain, as you then pick up the bottle and throw it across the room. You won’t be able to stop it hitting the wall and then the floor unless you slow everything down.

The bottle hits the wall with a loud thud. Clearly you need some serious improvements if this is going to work. You try it again a few times, still no result, other than your sister complaining that you’re making a racket. You decide to up the stakes a bit in an attempt to make progress.

You think up some ideas, but in the end you don’t want to let the stakes be too high. If this power won’t work without adrenaline, then it’s going to be a pretty lousy power in the end. You decide to try meditation first, if that works then attempting something more practical, but ultimately harmless would be the next step. You set your bedside alarm clock, you take your phone and place it on your computer desk, setting it for two seconds later. You rummage through your room for a wristwatch. You find a digital watch, you suppose it will have to do, considering it’s the only watch you ever owned and stopped wearing it by the time you were 12. You set it to display a second’s timer. You don’t exactly know how that is going to help you, but the more research and numbers you have on paper, the easier this will be to understand. You borrow a wall clock from the hallway and hang it up in your room. This clock makes the ticking noise, so it will be great for counting seconds, you figure. You first decide to try and concentrate, wait for the first alarm to go off, then try to prolong the second one on your desk from going off for longer than the two actual seconds that should pass.

You try to empty your mind, but random shit keeps popping up in your mind. Your mind wanders through a list of thoughts one at a time. Masumi, her parents, Junichi, the arcade, the library, anxiety, Masumi, confusion, research, Miki, Mother, clocks, analog clocks, digital clocks, alarms. You try to remember the feeling you had when you saved that man from his plummet, the stillness of the air, the surprising quiet of the crowd, the exaggerated breathing sounds that came from your own body.

The first alarm goes off and you snap hold of that feeling, feeling confident about all this for the first time.

You hold onto that moment. You don’t hear the wall clock ticking anymore. You open your eyes and see that your wall clock has stopped completely, your wristwatch keeps ticking though, perhaps body contact might affect it. The alarm should be going off now, your watch confirms it, but the world is still quiet and still. You can’t hear your sister downstairs anymore either. You had your doubts before, but this proves your theory. It’s much less like the flash and more like…you’re not quite sure, you can’t think of anybody who can manipulate time in media off the top of your head, that’s Junichi’s department. You look towards the mirror and almost jump at your own, moving reflection. This moment is so still, you already got used to being in a frozen picture.

A shadow passes along the wall behind you suddenly. Your eyes go wide in horror and you spin around, nothing there. The alarm starts sounding, the clock starts ticking again and you check your watch, which is now no longer in sync with the world. You figure that time must have stopped for about three seconds, perhaps a bit less. The moment felt much longer than that and counting time stopped using seconds also sounds quite strange, but you don’t have any better ideas. The shadow you saw, it felt like earlier today at school. You feel like something is watching you and apparently it does not care about stopped time. You wonder if it’s possible that it could stop time as well, or be immune to alterations in time, but if such a thing existed, it’s likely that nobody would ever know.

You perform this new mind exercise for an hour or so, pausing time completely at least on five occasions, but rarely past three seconds, never all the way to four. You discover that even when you don’t stop the flow completely, you can slow it down to about half its regular pace. It’s amazing, you cannot even begin to describe just how excited you are. You have trouble thinking of anything in the world worth more than this power, it has limitless potential. Even if your limit lies around four seconds, it’s still enough of an advantage to be the world’s best fighter even at your current martial skill level, which is did some karate at age twelve for a couple of months. You think about joining a school club, this advantage could be used to easily be the best at whatever you wanted, without significant effort. You feel like celebrating, but you have nobody to celebrate with and even if you did, this power might not be something to tell others about, ever. Ending up a government experiment is not on Yu’s to do list, but even still…whatever that shadow was, can you really handle it on your own?

You decide that the best thing to do is keep your secret to yourself for now, at least until you get more confident with this ability. You practice throwing your phone in the air and watching it, very slowly fall back into your hands. You keep at until you need hardly any preparation time at all, it’s like moving a limb you never knew you had, but it feels almost as natural as moving your arms and legs. You start to get a headache again and decide to stop the time shenanigans for the night. You feel like practice could seriously improve upon this power, since you have made significant progress already. You head downstairs, where Miki seems to be selecting a second movie to watch already.

“Hey bro, do you wanna watch movies with me now? You missed out on Jurassic world already, but we still have guardians of the galaxy, my friend’s said its pretty good.”

You think about it for a moment and decide it would be a good way to wind down for the night. You already saw the film with Junichi last year, but you decide to humor your sister and take the opportunity to relax and catch up with her.

“Sure, as long as you share those snacks.”

She whimpers a little, “aww really? Well I guess I could for my cute big brother.”

“Watch what you say punk, last time somebody called me cute they were never heard from again.” You completely made that up, but you won’t take such insults without fighting back a bit.

“So scary big brother, I never knew you loved being called cute so much.” Her grin had the energy of a small nuclear reactor. It looks like you might have to get used to your 5’5, underdeveloped sister calling you cute. You decide to let her win this battle, but the war shall be won by unleashing your newest secret weapon.

You start watching the movie, grabbing chips at a furious pace. She grabs the bag and sits it in her lap, clearly intending on monitoring and controlling them.

“You can’t eat them all before the opening sequence, you can have some more later”

You wait a few more minutes until her guard is somewhat lowered, concentrate for a few moments and then pause time, snatch a single chip from the bag and place it in your mouth before resuming time once more. It only took about a second, you imagine what is possible with four. You then crunch down on the chip and she looks at you in surprise.

“No way, big brother snuck a chip from right under my nose, I underestimated you. You have forced my hand.”

She tucks the bag tight into her chest, with the opening of the bag right up against her. Looks like you have been bested, even if time was stopped, you don’t feel game enough to get so close to her. You watch the rest of the film without much incident and when you check the time afterwards its past 10pm. You decide to do go and finish your homework, then head to bed.

You wake up early the next morning, feeling great about everything. No headache, no worries in the world. You feel on top of the world, ready for anything. The Kendo club sounds like a nice fit for you, both physically and supernaturally. Since Kendo is a martial art, many members exist in both the martial arts club and Kendo club, so switching around or joining the other at a later date is no issue. You have a morning shower and get dressed, heading downstairs. On the kitchen bench there is an envelope, with your weekly allowance inside. Your mother usually leaves it here, so it comes as no surprise to you. You start cooking up breakfast for yourself and Miki, making sure to make extra for lunch at school. You have never been a great cook, but Miki is awful. You let her practice with your supervision for dinner, but you have banned her from breakfast duty, because nothing is worse than a bad breakfast. Miki comes out into the living room and sits on the couch, while talking on the phone with who you assume is one of her friends. You catch her end of the conversation, trying to piece together what is happening, it might be nosy of you, but you have a sneaky suspicion that something is off.

“I knew he was great, but I never knew he could do that…yeah he admitted it completely…. They are offering him an award of bravery?”

Sounds like the incident yesterday has at least hit the internet and the paper. That could be a massive pain to deal with, but you know that it could improve your relationship with Masumi’s parents, so it’s not too bad. You can just explain that it was a freak adrenaline moment, that you were amazed by what you did and could probably never do it again. The heroic act is good for your reputation, but being the name on everyone’s mind won’t help with hiding your secret.

You finish cooking and eat quickly, intending on getting to the early morning Kendo practice to talk about joining. You head out with a purpose, when you suddenly get a text from Masumi.

“Why didn’t you tell me about yesterday? Everyone is saying you’re a hero!”

You don’t know how to feel about Masumi’s text. You decide to reply to her in person later, once you gauge her mood properly. You make it to school in good time and head over to the Kendo hall. The captain approaches you when you enter with a friendly, inviting tone. This looks like it will be easy enough to join, he clearly wants you in the club already.

“Hey, would I be able to join the club, I can exercise more if need be”

His face somehow gets even brighter, “Of course, we are looking for new members, from what I can see your fitter than half the club, so don’t worry about that. All we need to do is gauge your current skill level, teach you some basics and have you do some sparring before class. If you’re still interested after that then you’re a member, it’s as simple as that. Of course you will eventually need to get your own equipment, especially since we don’t have many uniforms your size to loan to you.

You ponder how quickly you want to climb this totem pole. You feel confident in your physical abilities and you can make up for your lack of technique with raw strength and speed to a certain degree. You plan to take your time and learn the basic moves diligently and try to find effective ways of integrating your powers into your attack sequences. The wooden shinai takes some getting used to, but you find your size makes it very easy to reach your opponents and keep them at a distance where you are in no danger. Your only weakness is pointed out as being that if an enemy makes it into your space, past the weapon’s effective area, they will be able to attack effectively while it will be a struggle for you. You are also quite a large target; you will need to be quick in order to defend such a wide area. Fortunately for you, if anybody does exploit your weaknesses, you can just speed up and get away or strike a winning blow. Sparring for the first time, you feel like the opponent is unknowingly at your mercy. You prove your stamina and determination to the captain, but ultimately allow yourself to be bested through a show of skill. The bell rings soon after, you wipe off the sweat with a towel and head to class. Class goes by rather quickly and your left to decide what to do with lunch.

Exercising restraint right now can only be a good thing. You don’t want your confidence to turn into arrogance, so you decide to practice another time. Masumi wanted to talk with you, so it’s only natural you do so. You start looking for her, but it looks like she already left the classroom. You take a look out the window, you spot Masumi and Junichi talking with three other students, but not the kind they usually mix with. You feel something is amiss, so you briskly walk out of the classroom and down the stairs towards them. By the time you exit the building, you see one of the martial arts club tough guys towering over Junichi, who has taken up position directly in front of Masumi.

You don’t like the idea of Junichi trying to be a hero, but it looks like that kid has an issue with Masumi. His friends watch as he grips Junichi’s collar tight, threatening to flatten him. Masumi looks terrified, but she notices you arriving and she exclaims,

“Yu! Be careful!”

“No need to dirty your hands princess, I will handle this from here.” The three men cackle to themselves when they hear your boasting.

“If you want to get out of here on your feet, you better leave now”

The three of them just look to each other, then burst out laughing.

“What a bluff, Yu, you might be a big dude, but we all know you can’t win 3 to one. You know that even with the nerd and the bitch’s help, you can’t beat three black belts in Judo, Kung Fu and Karate. Give it up Yu, we just want to even things out with the bitch.”

The guy in the front, named Yasadai, throws Junichi to the ground and places his foot on his chest, bearing his weight down on him for a few moments. When he releases the pressure, Junichi decides to stay down.

“I’m sorry Yu, looks like Masumi is in your care now”

Yasadai speaks up, trying to get you out of the picture, “Just walk away tough guy, you don’t want to drag yourself, or your sister into this”.

He strikes a nerve, but you have decided to stay the course. You can beat them into submission, make it so brutal that they will fear ever crossing you or your family again. By now, several students have gathered around, making sure not to get too close, surely a teacher won’t be far away.

“Somebody who has a problem with Masumi has a problem with me, if somebody has a problem with me, they try to amend the situation quickly. Looks like you will find out why soon enough.”

Looks like a fight can’t be helped, against three martial artists, you probably won’t receive much blame or consequence for this fight. Which means you don’t have to hold back too much. Time to test your time stop when it counts.

Yasadai clicks his fingers, his friends start walking in, cracking their knuckles, as he looks to Masumi.

“I’m gonna have fun kicking the shit out of your boyfriend, then we can have a talk in private.”

The thought of such a thing sickens you, you decide your only chance is to take out one of the three quickly, in order to even the odds before you end up pinned down by all of them.

“I will give you one free hit, right here”

You point to your right cheek, then lower your hands, feigning a dropped guard. You focus on the moment you rescued that man, how it felt to you. That moment was off confusion, panic and terror, you imagine what you are capable of with a clear head and the sheer will to be superior. You feel that predatory sense again, just like earlier during Kendo. They are at your mercy, everything they are doing right now, it’s all because you have allowed them to. Anything they do to resist is useless. Completely and utterly useless.

You hear one of the goons step in, swinging hard and fast. You slow time down to less than 25% speed for a moment, allowing the free hit you promised to lightly brush your cheek, before ducking the rest of the punch. Time stops completely at this point, you step in under his arm, quickly jab him in the stomach, several times. You grab him by the shirt and throw him into the air, he moves a little over a meter away before his body freezes in the air, perfect. You quickly rush over to him, unleash a few more punches to straight to his head, then return to a position that looks like you just threw him. Time starts to move again, as you realize your invincibility. You feel a little fatigued, but it’s to be expected after dishing out a beating like that. He flies to the ground, not intending on getting up anytime soon.

“How did you…?” Yasadai manages to keep from wetting himself for the moment, but he is afraid.

You cut him off, saying “Just because I only just joined a club does not mean I’m new to this rodeo.” You take a couple steps back towards Masumi, placing both hands in a guard out in front, similar to a boxer. “There is something you don’t understand about me yet. It’s quite simple, I make the rules, you all follow them. Rule number one, don’t bother any of my friends. Rule two, don’t piss me off. You have managed to break both of these rules, so for that, I will make sure to punish you twice. I will end this fight with you on the floor soon. You won’t be able to stop me, but by all means try, it only sinks you further into my bad books.”

Yasadai is mentally cornered, all you need to do now is make his fears a reality and he won’t ever bother you again. As for his goons, they might be useful later, they must respect you as a martial artist after this. So much for playing down your abilities.

You focus again for a moment, just before you manage to slow time, both of them rush at you. You block two strikes to the front, but your head rings when you feel a blow to the side of your head. Cursing the pain, you go with the blow to the side in an attempt to get them both in front of you again. When the second one steps past Junichi, he suddenly lashes his hand out onto his foot, digging his fingers in as hard as he can and pulls him off his feet. Junichi bought you some time and apparently a distraction. As Yasadai turns to check on the commotion behind him, you focus again and successfully slow time down to about 70%. It’s much harder to concentrate after a hit to the head like that, but it should be enough to win.

You throw a left punch, he raises his left hand and deflects your punch off to the side, leaving your side wide open, he steps forward for a lunging punch, aimed for right below the ribs. You don’t have time to fight his hand guiding you away, so you try a ridiculous move that might work with your new skills, you spin all the way around the other side, winding up one hell of a punch. Thanks to your huge speed advantage, he only catches on moments before it’s too late. He brings both his hands toward your punch and you crash through his guard, knocking it down. You move in right up close and personal, hands at his head height and start a series of quick jabs. They are too fast for him to stop and after six punches he drops to the floor.

You look to Junichi just as you hear a loud thump, the goon has gotten on top of him and started punching him right in the face. Blood is trickling out of his nose. You try to rush over there, slowing time to aid you. You only make it two steps before your body falls like a rock. Your exhausted, mentally and physically. You realize that in a strange sense, you have been fighting at least twice as long as everyone else here. You stumble back up, heading toward Junichi, when Masumi suddenly screams in panic suddenly and charges into the man, tackling him off Junichi and onto the ground.

You are amazed, stunned completely for a moment before realizing that her surprise factor will quickly wear off. You grab the man’s uniform and drag him up to his feet. He looks like he was about to snap into a frenzy. His eyes suddenly remind you of yourself and that predatory nature your developing. It fades after a few moments, before he falls to his knees in surrender. You go to Masumi and Junichi’s side, sitting down next to them and giving Junichi a big thumb up.

Masumi looks to be on the verge of tears “Thanks Yu, thank you Junichi, I don’t know what I would have done without…” She can’t finish the sentence as she bursts into tears and wraps her arms around you tightly. You sit like that for a minute or so, her surprising and comforting warmth radiating into your chest until several teachers arrive on scene. Whatever happened between Masumi and Yasadai, it’s probably worth looking into. You feel a strange presence watching you again, it seems to come with the whole time manipulating business. You get the feeling that this incredibly bizarre week won’t let up anytime soon.

Thank you for writing! Enjoyed reading the story!

The student newspaper shall feature us as The Hero. And yeah, we should inquire whether she has gambling debts...or something. Or the current gang boss has an eye on her?
And the shadow creature might be harmless or not - better become better soon.

Thanks for the thread OP!

Thanks for running.
I'm looking forward to the next session.

So on top of having to endures headache after overuse, our power also consumes physical stamina when moving in slow motion.
I guess it's time to get buff.

Great quest OP my only complaint is that you took such a long time to write up responses.

Twitter made, not good with it, so suggestions are welcome. I should also be added to the QM's quest list soon.
>>866158
Yeah, I need to work on my writing speed. Once or twice I had unexpected shit happen, which did not help. Next time I shouldn't have any interruptions.
>>
>>866161
dude you wrote on the twitter that it's scheduled for 1st october
bit of a long break eh?
>>
>>866179
Yeah, I want to wait until I have a day where I will be able to do write ups and responses in a decent time frame. I just dont want to bullshit you guys around so much. I hope the gap isn't too large. After that date though, I will be available much more often.

I think he meant that you probably wanted the date to be on the first of December(unless you actually mean to have us wait for 11 months).

On another note, how do you feel about having your impression of the protagonist changed? He was originally supposed to a beta, but now we've turned him into that mysterious big dude everyone knows about.

>beta
>mysterious big dude everyone knows about
Would be funny if the time power involves a personality change too - the shadow isn't outside stalking us, but in our mind! Changing us, controling us! Woosh!
>>
>>866217
I am pretty tired if I failed to notice that I wrote October.
I was a bit sceptical at first about the change, but I think its made the quest much more interesting.
>>866241
Well, I think the power has affected his personality already, the overconfidence is already starting to seep from his pores.
