14 KB JPG
Far above the land of mortals there is a golden palace. Inside this golden palace lives a celestial being, and she has just outgrown her favorite plaything. A doll with pale skin and even paler hair.

This doll was one of many, but it was her favorite. Oh the adventures they had, the stories they shared... But she is not a little girl anymore,
she is too old to be playing with dolls. She decides it is time to say goodbye to this doll, as she did the others. She leans over the balcony of the palace, gives her doll one last kiss before releasing her to the winds.

The doll, woken by the kiss stares, unmoving at the ground below, noting curiously that the ground seems to be larger than ever before, and growing as well. The doll realizes her misunderstanding and laughs at her own foolishness before hitting the ground with a loud thud and losing consciousness.

This doll is you.

You aren't just any old doll either, in the girl's stories you filled the role of the:

> Magician
Clever, logical, and always one step ahead of everyone, you showed the girl battles are not won with strength alone

> Soldier
Duty and Honor, these are your ideals. You fought against nightmarish lich-kings, greedy dragons, and black knights, winning the hearts of everyone with your bravery

> Trickster
Quick with joke, quick to make friends. Luck, pluck, and the right amount of smarts always got you your way. Always a welcome character to lighten the mood for the girl.

> Monarch
The noble leader, while the trickster displayed puckish charm, you ooze the confidence and charisma of royalty. Someone the girl could always look up to.

> Mentor
Old, wise and enlightened, the girl may put on her stories for fun, but she always loved how you found a way to make sure she learned something new with each tale.

> Joker
Every story, every adventure, you were always someone new, or maybe something new, always unpredictable and always exciting

> Wildcard
Write in, try to keep it a role generic enough to play a part in a multitude of stories, and entertaining enough to actually impact an audience (i.e. no "background character")

The quest proper will not be beginning for another 2 hours. In the meantime please feel free to ask questions and vote.

The doll is capable of magic regardless of role, though the magician would likely focus on it's use more than say, the fighter.

Roles are more about personality and determining your strengths, rather than determining entire sets of abilities. Hope that helped.

Alright. Bigger elaboration on both choices.

The Joker
A little harder to define than the other roles, you're sort of like Murphy's law incarnate. You've covered roles as simple as an old lady keeping someone from their job in time. You've been characters as game changing as the countess' secret twin. To fill these roles, you could change your appearance far easier than any other dolls. The girl used to love spotting you, like a little game within the play. You were so versatile, it's no wonder you were her favorite.

AND

The Monarch
You still remember your first role, nothing more than a figure to stand and congratulate the hero. As time went on you filled so many roles, both good and evil, but no matter which side you were on, you always had the respect and admiration of your people. Sometimes you even got to be the protagonist. The girl always looked up to you as a role model.

You fill the role of the Monarch

Opening your eyes, you pull yourself out of the dirt you seem to have embedded yourself in. You have some trouble, but manage to get to your feet. You take a moment to look over yourself. There is a crack on your face, and while not an important aspect of your being by any stretch of your imagination, you feel an incredible sense of dread, horror and general sadness to find yourself broken. This dread passes quickly when you notice the creature staring at you. You should present yourself in a respectable manner while in company. They seem curious and somewhat scared, how wonderful it is to already have so much in common with this stranger.

"Greetings stranger" you say as you attempt a curtsy. You quickly realize this is a hopeless cause however, as you currently lack a dress. Any other form of clothing as well for that matter.

The creature simply stares at you, chewing something. Normally communicating comes naturally to you. You hear the words of the other dolls and the right thing just comes to you naturally, but right now you find yourself at loss for how to continue...

You take a moment to notice your surroundings. An old woods from the looks of things, not exactly thriving, perhaps there is a kingdom for you to govern nearby. You turn your attention back to the creature to find it just standing there... staring... You're not entirely sure what the beast IS, it could be human, you've heard they can come in shapes, sizes and colors other than that of the dolls.

"I am very sorry sir, I know it is rude to simply leave, but I am rather lost and I think it'd be for the best if we parted ways." you hold out your hand to shake, and the human(?) spits up some well masticated fish into it and gives you a grin. At least you think it's a grin... You don't exactly have much use for food, but you're always happy to receive a gift and you will make sure it does not go to waste.

You and the human part ways. You find yourself on a forest path. While you cannot read the sign that explains where this path leads, you can identify the image of a pond. Meanwhile, deeper in the woods, off the path, you hear voices, speaking in language no less. It's hard too hard to make out what they are saying from this distance.

I suppose i should have probably asked YOU guys to roll, but let's see where this goes. Also sorry for taking so long. Got really picky about images.

You get low to the ground, trying as hard as possible not to ruin your fish gift. You begin making your way closer to the voices. Eventually you can get a pretty good position. The voices seem to be coming from a couple of hunters. One's got his bow drawn. and the other seems to be lecturing him on his form. And good thing too, he's never going to hit anything like THAT.

*gotta check results from these rolls to determine what happens next.*
>>
>>866421
The archer catches a glimpse of you and in a panic lets an arrow loose in your general direction. Luckily you were accurate in your initial assessment, he didn't manage to hit anything. The older of the two archers begins lecturing the young one, telling him he's way too jumpy and he's lucky his aim is so bad, or he might of hurt someone.

Both of the archers make their way over to your general direction. "Hello? Anyone in these woods? Didn't mean no harm, unless you're a boar, i suppose, in which case, we mean plenty of harm."

"Salutations hunters!"

"Laurence.... she... she ain't got no parts..." The young hunter shakes nervously as he points at you.

"I can bloody well see that she's got no parts, she ain't exactly hiding the fact, stop staring it's rude" the older hunter responds.

"A naked tart without any lady bits is handing out regurgitated fish in the woods, and I'm not allowed to stare?"

"Terrence, you're embarrassing the two of us in front of the lady." Laurence replies through gritted teeth.

Laurence grabs the fish from your hands and gives you a handshake. You're relieved to find humans from a culture you're at least somewhat familiar with.

"I am Laurence, I'm out here training my apprentice Terence."

"Pleasure to-"

"Only when spoken to." Laurence reminds his apprentice.

"Now maybe you can tell us what a... thing...person... like you is doing in these woods all alone, without so much as a blanket?"

Laurence pulls the cloak off of Terence, despite some minor protests, and hands it to you.

"That ought to cover you up.

You thank the two hunters and wish them the best of luck in their hunt. First the fish, and now a cloak, these humans really enjoy giving gifts to you.

>>866500
On the way out of the woods, you notice a signpost with a plaque. "Westwood, named after Sir Westin, a true warrior, and friend to the trees.

From a distance, the town seemed really picturesque, but as you get closer, you're a little taken off guard by the odd crucified corpses. Perhaps this is some kind of villains base of operations, but you probably aren't in any kind of danger, after all, you're not even properly set up in your role yet, what ever aspect of the story is to take place here, likely won't involve you.

As you enter town you see a large sign that claims "This town is under the protection of The Knights of Punishment"

How quaint.

You start walking through the streets, spotting all manner of stores. Bakeries, butcheries, there's even a stand that sells dairy products! not that you've ever really eaten before... but it LOOKS nice. There's a also a tailor, blacksmith, library and jewelry store. AND A BAR! Oh, some of your favorite scenes happened in bars, and you never really get to take part in them. You have portrayed a damn good drunk in your time though.

All of these stores are fascinating and all, but none seem to jump out at you as much as the well in the center of town. A creepy old thing, but also quite charming. You make your way over to it and notice a loving couple toss a coin into the well, at least you THINK it's a coin... it didn't even have your face stamped on the side.

You wait for them to be gone before taking a peak down the well, to see if you can get a better look at the coin, but you're surprised how deep the well is, you can't even see the bottom.

You grab the clothes, head to the changing room and return transformed (not literally, but still, rather impressively for just a change of clothes and mindset.)

People seem extremely eager to tip, and as the night goes on, people seem more and more willing to talk to you. You're having a fantastic time when one of the patrons drunkenly comments "You're such a nice sky lady, and here i thought you were gonna lose it and curse the whole bloody town!"

To which the rest of the bar patrons who heard awkwardly shuffle away from him, attempting to dissociate themselves while still occasionally turning back to see what happens.

What do you mean?

"You're one of them sky ladies right? Glowing blue eyes, snow white hair? porcelain skin? We all know the stories, crossing a sky child is like taking a dump on someone's grave... you're just ASKING for some kinda magical comeuppance."

Oh...

You're taken off guard by the idea people might just be giving you things because they're afraid of you, rather than actually liking you, but you can't allow that to break your character. You're a barmaid after all.

Eventually the bar closes, everyone either goes home or up to their rooms, but you don't sleep, so you leave the building while the InnKeeper locks up.

You're right, looks like your prices ARE in a legally acceptable range, that's still false advertising. You're lucky, people don't exactly get damned over false advertising. What do you say we do with him?

A third voice pipes in, that of a woman

Culture of Tempust, we need to learn how to fit in
>>
>>867063
Tempust is a relatively new kingdom. Formed less than 50 years ago in the great war. There are many cultures and races that call Tempust home. This is just a brief summary.

- Humans: By far the most numerous species in Tempust, they take pride in their craftsmanship and hobbies. It's not uncommon for a human to focus all of their time and effort into the mastery of a single skill or profession, but strangely enough, having no other interests outside of this main focus is often considered strange or even creepy. Humans put a massive importance on family.

- High Elves and Dark Elves: These immortal beings are said to have sprouted from tall trees or deep underground fungi respectively. While nobody knows the origin of these beings for sure, as when the first batch of elves were born, that was it. Elves lack the ability to reproduce more elves, any breeding simply results in human children. It is because of this fact that the High Elven people eventually died off, even if their culture still exists to this day. Dark Elves however are a different story. Nobody knows for sure, but some say that the Dark Elves have found a way to keep their numbers constant through dark deals made with ancient druids. They aren't exactly common, possibly making up 1:1000 of the population of Tempest. They are known for having rather malicious and cruel tendencies and their intense ambition.

- Witches: Unholy maidens, wicked hags... these awful creatures were once beings of normal races, who allowed themselves to be twisted by the disgusting powers of dark magics and devil worship. They form bonds with evil spirits to empower themselves and wreak chaos on others. They mostly inhabit the the outskirts of Tempust.

- There are also many other species of beings living throughout Tempest, like goblins, beast men, kobolds and more, but these races are hardly ever considered to have their own culture, but rather adopt the culture of whichever town or city they are living in at the time.

I'll be honest I kinda feel like I could have done better getting more specific with the cultures, but I kinda decide this was lot to drop at once and I'd stick to the races more.

I'm also kinda scared to box myself in, limiting the amount of races

Having your fill of the library, you decide to pay a visit to the jewelry store owner, to check up on him.

If it weren't for the black eye and a few bruises, you'd think nothing was ever wrong, with the way he cheerily greets you as you enter. The old man seems much shorter than the average person, but what he lacks in size he makes up for in a very large, very white beard.

"Come here to buy, or just to browse?"

Browse, I don't think I can afford any fancy jewelry on my budget.

"Well if there's anything you really like, I'm sure we could come to some kind of agreement." He smiles

" I thought you might like that one, white seems to be your color. While, I can't exactly say that I've known many people to try it out, I don't like to leave home without one. Can't say I've ever been affected by any supernatural evil. So I'll tell you what kid. If you can help me with something, I can pay you with a Soul Ward. I have plenty, and it'd be my pleasure. In exchange though, I ask that you investigate the well in the center of town, I've heard rumors of precious stones down there, but I'm far too old to investigate myself. Even if the rumors turn out to be true, I'd pay you for the trouble."

You feel yourself fall a considerable distance, but before landing, a sort of energy braces your impact and you land perfectly safely. Unfortunately, it appears to be pitch black at the bottom of this cave. The energy that broke your fall gives you an idea however, you could attempt to channel magical energies from your core into a spell. Normally doing such a thing would have a high risk of disabling your body, but a light should likely be a simple enough spell to cast without major downsides.

SPELL CASTING TUTORIAL

> To cast a spell, you must have a pretty clear end result in mind
> The more drastic the effect determines how much energy you drain from your own body in order to cast
> Should you not have enough energy to cast the desired spell, the energy is still drained, but the spell fails regardless
> If the spell command is given in the form of a rhyme, I will decrease the difficulty/toll on your body depending on how impressive and spell like the rhyme sounds. (yes actually)

So there's some stuff going on behind the scenes which I'd be willing to share if people wanted a more open experience for this, but I warn you, it's not exactly a pretty or particularly good system.

SO. What does that all mean for you?

Basically... when you want to do magic, give a command, rhyme or not, and roll a 1d6.

are more what i meant.

You concentrate on the essence inside your body and speak some magic words. You can feel energy pouring from your left arm, it gets somewhat numb, but recovers quickly. A light begins to appear in front of you.

You decide you could use a bit more light and recite another spell, this time the same sensation courses through your left leg.

Soon this whole area is shining bright with your magic. Your magic lights shine brilliantly enough on their own, but the light is reflecting off a chunk of a rainbow colored crystal sticking out of the ground. You go to touch the brilliant stone, but it begins to shake as a large beast rises from the ground, a scorpion gems affixed to it all along it's body.

What a horrifying creature!

You try to outrun the monster, but you simply aren't fast enough. The beast's tail lunges forward and bashes you heavily in the skull. Magical energies negate the damage, but you can feel that you can't hold out much longer, you need to do something.

I used real life dice here to reduce the amount of updates

>>867775

You turn to face your attacker and stand your ground, chanting your incantation at the creature.

The beast wishes to do me harm, so I shall befriend it with a charm

You pull energy from your left leg, and while a green mist begins to form around you, and the creature begins to slow, your leg gives out, completely limp, but undamaged.

The beast calms down completely and walks over to you calmly, curiously even.

The length and number of rhymes does effect the difficulty yes, but not on a one to one basis. Basically a simple rhyme that indicates the spell effect is basically a reduction of 1, while for a 2 would require more rhymes and or the rhymes being more well thought out, It's incredibly subjective i suppose

It's body part tutorial time! (FOR THOSE WHO WANT IT)
I figure it's a pretty big thing and I should really explain it to a degree.

>You have 6 body parts.
>Every time you take damage, it's targeted to one of those spots
>Each body part has a "charge"
>This sort of acts like the parts "health"
> Once your charge hits zero, that body part becomes useless until recharged
> Should a body part take damage while at 0 charge, it will be permanently damaged.
> Your magic also runs on these charges
> When you cast a spell, you randomly determine which body part will be taking the charge.
> Try not to wind up crippling yourself with spell usage
> But at the same time, you are a doll, every part is replaceable, your body isn't real.

Pic related is the actual "character sheet" I've been using.

Alright. So when we last left off, our hero was at the bottom of a well searching for some kind of rare gems for the jeweler. You found the gems formed as part of crystal scorpion, which you managed to befriend using magic, at the expense of your legs functionality.

There are some cave systems at the bottom of the well, but quite small, and you might risk getting stuck. There are 3 gold coins at the bottom of the well you decide to take. And of course, there is a crystal scorpion, who is currently just standing around.

You limp your way around the scorpion, running your hands gently along it's gems, hoping to find one that may be loose, but have no such luck. The creatures pleasant clicking of it's mandibles seems to indicate it can feel your hand to a degree, so removing them without harming the beast seems like an unlikely option.

You make your way over to one of various tunnels along the walls of the cave. The biggest of them is only a little bit wider than your head, and even with your magic lights, you can't see much of what's inside, as the tunnel seems to curve at lot. It seems like it might be an animals den, but way too small for the scorpion. You're not sure it's the best idea to try and squeeze through, needing to drag one leg the whole way would definitely make it a lot harder.

Once your reach the walls of the well, you have some trouble, you make it maybe half way before you slip and fall. You body braces you for the fall, any damage is negligible.

>>870747
Once you've fallen, you notice the scorpion has curled itself up, camouflaging itself as a crystal formation, like when you first found it. It seems to be waiting for something, so you decide to wait as well. In some time, a small lizard, no bigger than a squirrel, makes it's way out of one of the holes. It seems to avoid the scorpion, but makes it's way over to you. It's likely not scared off, due to your lack of breathing and perfect stillness. It walks right to your hand and begins sniffing.

Let's try that again.

You start trying to cast a spell as quietly and with as little movement as possible. Your left leg shudders and nothing seems to happen. The lizard is startled, but as you lay still, it seems to calm down.

I rolled for you, tried to draw power from left leg, but it's got none.

That is until the scorpion bursts from it's cover, causing the lizards to scatter in a panic. You manage to grab one before it escapes. The scorpion manages to pierce one with it's claws and begins devouring it frantically, the poor thing seems to be starving.

After all the lizards scatter and the scorpion finishes it's meal, it notices the lizard you caught, walking towards you, drooling.

>I don't know what to do.

Having already been lying down here for so long, you are trying to come to terms with living in this well forever... you hate the idea, good leaders don't live in wells. Kings and Queens don't just wait around and feed lizards to scorpions all day either.

Then another idea enters your head, one you quite like. You climb aboard the scorpion's back once more. You wave the lizard in front of his eyes and point to the surface. The scorpion seems to understand, and begins to crawl it's up the cave walls with ease. As it begins climbing up the well you do your best to hold on to the beast, with you leg left dangling. You do not want to be stuck down there again, especially not without your noble mount.

Soon you can hear two screams of terror coming from a young couple, the scorpion reaches the top of the well, and crawls onto the town streets, with you as it's rider. It clicks happily and turns it's head to face you, still drooling over the lizard in your hands.

Well, I've grown rather fond of the beast, and I released it into the Westwood."

"Ah, well, I'm sure it will be safe there, the hunters aren't exactly a danger to it with it's rough skin, not even to mention their awful aim. Perhaps I can make a trip to the woods every once in a while to collect any gems that it may shed. Thank you very much for this, the Soul Ward is yours."

You leave the store and notice the time of day, it's almost time for work! You make your way to the inn and find yourself greeted by many familiar faces. The Barkeep hands you your uniform and says he wasn't totally sure if you'd be back. Sky People have a tendency to just up and disappear, but he's glad you decided to stay.

Tonight's tips are a lot less than usual, but people seemed a lot friendlier, and genuinely happy to see you, rather than scared. You have another great night and finish up without much issue, making 3 gold, bringing you to about 13 in total.

Would I by any chance be able to rent a room for the night?

"Your welcome to stay for free, we've still got a few empty room upstairs." the barkeep says as he hands you a key.

While you are up in your quaint room, you think back to the scorpion, you decide to name him " Mr.Snips . You hope you can see them again. You lay down in the bed, it's soft, you close your eyes. Closing your eyes and laying down is called "sleeping". While you are "sleeping" you can hear your neighbor. It's the strange man from before. He seems to be talking with someone who's voice sounds distorted in some way.

"The ritual will have to wait till next month, these barbarians don't even do shadowcrafting. All the preparations will be ready, and besides, it's hardly my fault you guys gave me a days notice to prepare the knife, I was in charge of the crow feathers, the knife was Au'relio's part!"

Well what ever you do, don't spend another moment in that town, the punishment knights would crucify you if they found you.

"Well. uh, yes, about that... uh... I'm currently staying at an inn. It seemed rather quaint and it's actually rather nice!"

Are you trying to get yourself killed? You best head for the woods first thing in the morning.

The speaking stops, you continue to lay still with your eyes closed. You can feel the energy in your leg and head replenish. You've always heard sleep was restful, but now you can really see why.

Well we don't take too kindly to dark elf sympathizers, and we decided to give you a look. Please remove any and all objects that may be considered "Drow-like" in nature.

"I uh... no thank you."

The punishment knights look at each other and laugh, walking up to the scared man.

Let's see what we got under all these rags little man

The knights pull his hat from his head, and tear apart his coat, despite his best attempts to hold onto these things. His skin is dark, but not like a humans, it's almost purple and his hair is white.

"W-would you believe me if I said I was cursed by a witch?"

By the Holy Hells! A drow! You're pure evil! You'll make a fine general in the armies of the Adversary, but first, you must pay for your sinister crimes against the world.

The male punishment knight draws a whip covered in barbs, while the woman grips nails between her knuckles. "I'll get the cross!" she says excitedly.

"Please, I'm a dark-elf, but I haven't ACTUALLY done anything!"

Talk them down.
You don't want a nice drow. If he has been being nice for longer than everyone else, then he's gonna cancel out all his sins.
That'd be like sending a happy puppy to hell, it'd be worth negative sinners!
Probably wouldn't even make a good luggage career in hell's armies.

I love the punishment knights, they're easily my favorite characters right now.
>>
>>872972
Well, that's what great about the incantation. If they were doing wrong, it would weigh them down and immobilize them. If nothing happens, then they're a-okay!
>>
>>872929
You step towards the punishment knights

I ask you knights, step away from the dark elf please, this has been a warning.

"What the fuck is that thing? A white elf?" the female asks

No... what we have here is a very rare case of "Pure of Heart"... which means we can just leave her alone, ain't no way one of the sky people is going to hell.

Sorry lady, but this is our business. We can make it quicker if you want, but this mans marked for death.

>>872984
I am familiar with your order of knights. You kill to bolster the ranks of Hell... I ask you, what if you're wrong about this man? You say he's been sinning longer than anyone, but what if he's been nice since he was born? That'd be like sending a happy puppy to hell, it'd be worth negative sinners! Probably wouldn't even make a good luggage career in hell's armies.

I mean if he was really that good, he'd just go to heaven, like all puppies do, we wouldn't have to worry about the logistics of where he'd fit into our army... But that's besides the point. All drow born evil. They have wicked souls that long to burn in the fires of the abyss. Hell, he'd probably enjoy the torture were gonna put him through.

"I most certainly will not!"

Oh come on, you're just itching to see some blood.

The knight strikes his whip against the ground, making a cracking sound.

Sorry lady, but were doing this, with or without your permission. Trust me, half the reason the town even lets us live here is to keep drow like him out.

You take a step forward. You begin to feel a power well up inside the core of your being, rising alongside your anger.

Armored jerks with hearts of black
Will carry their sins upon their back
For every wrong they ever done
Their armor shall weigh another ton

The shadows of the two knights begin to move, they twist and contort, working their way up the backs of the knights. a black smoke starts rising off of the armor as the woman falls to the ground, and the man stands motionless, struggling to stand.
>>
>>873159
"Witchcraft! I'll get the fire wood!" the woman yells as the smoke seems to grow.

Idiot! She's pure of heart. We can't do shit to her. Besides, I for one welcome a true measurement of my devotion! ALLOW MY SINS TO BE SHOWN!"

"Does this mean I've sinned more than you, that must make me a better follower."

Shut the fuck up rookie, I've sinned at least 10 thousand times, i'm just stronger than you.

"You expect me to believe you're carrying 10 thousand tons right now? I bet I've sinned way more than you. Last night, I littered! ."

HARLOT

The knight attempts to move the hand holding the whip, but it drops quickly to his side as he falls to his knees, and then to the floor.

Fuck.

The two punishment knights continue their bickering and seem to completely forget about you and the dark elf. The dark elf walks over to you and grabs your hands.

"You have just saved my life, and the lives of many others, please, I cannot thank you enough. What is your name, so that I may thank you properly?"

The stranger begins walking up the path and you follow.

"My name is Quevlin, I'm a dark elf as you've no doubt noticed. I was here to pick up a few objects for an important magic ritual. My patron was attempting something... big. Well I can't explain the specifics, but were going to save a lot of lives. I'm going to her now, I can take you."

Who exactly is your patron? And what is your role in all this?"

"Oh I am her familiar... basically that just means I clean up after her and perform a few menial tasks while she provides her wisdom and hospitality. I was homeless you see, she took me in. Her name is Olivia, she doesn't really have a last name I don't think. She's a human by the way, well, a human witch."

You reach the woods and ask Quevin to wait a moment when you spot some gleaming in the woods. You whistle. Mr. Snips makes his way over to you.

"What a fantastic beast! May-may I touch it?"

That would probably be alright.

Quevlin touches Mr.Snips and it lets out an aggressive hiss.

"I think it likes me!" he says with a huge grin on his face.

The three of you continue onward through the woods. Eventually you reach a clearing filled with stone obelisks with candles lit all around. Leaning against one of these obelisks is a woman with a strange choice of dress...

"Master Olivia, please meet my newest acquaintance, Mistress Smith and Master Snips."

The woman simply tilts her head in curiosity

Quevin whispers to you "She doesn't speak."

Quevlin whispers to you "She doesn't speak."

You nod and wave to Olivia. You begin to perform a series of movements and motions that you believe properly convey the series of events that lead you to your current situation.

"Um, if I may interrupt, she's mute Miss Smith, but she can still hear yo-"

Olivia raises her hand as if to signal Quevlin to be silent.

>>875311

You finish your performance before deciding that words would probably be the easier solution here.

Salutations Miss Olivia. I was wondering if you would be so kind as to explain what the ritual you are doing will entail. I know that there are others involved.

You decide to try and ensure a truthful answer using some magic. As quietly as you can you whisper the words of an incantation:

Then, prepare a spell that would act like zone of truth:
While others may be fine with lies
To have wool pulled o'er eyes
I find myself to be a sleuth
Always looking for the truth

A faint blue aura begins to emanate from your left arm, but you can feel something go wrong, as it begins to flicker and you feel pain in your arm and it falls limp. The witch puts her hand to her mouth as if to cover a laugh. She shakes her finger at you like a disapproving parent. Then she motions to the old structures behind her. You decide to follow her.

She brings you to some kind of pond or fountain. With a quick wave of the witch's hand, the reflections on the water disappear, but a new image takes it's place, that of some kind of monster. The creature seems to float through the air, it's form constantly distorting, like it isn't truly solid. The beast moves through Westwood, latching on to trees and animals it comes across. Everything it touches seems to wither and die in seconds.

What do you mean to tell me with this?

The witch holds her hand out, in it some kind of whittled statuette, a cage. She points to the creature in the reflection, and again to the cage.

You want to capture this monster? What for?

The witch nods and points to the woods.

"She wishes to protect our home, well, the people this beast will put in danger too, but mostly it's to protect our precious Westwoods..." Quevlin clarifies.

And as for those you're working with?

Quevlin's smile forms a frown.., "That would be Lady Saleen and her companions, they have been funding our ritual, but we must admit, her motivations are unknown to us. Would you like to meet her? She should be here by tomorow morning to re-discuss our plan for dealing with this creature, now that we've missed the full moon. You're welcome to stay here for the day, and the night. Least we could do after you saved my life and all." Quevlin points towards a rundown old house nearby.

You follow the witch and Quevlin to the old house. The house seems incredibly smalls, you wonder if it's an illusion, or perhaps if it's somehow larger on the inside. You wait excitedly and with a snap of the witches fingers, the door swings open. The interior is actually about as small as you could expect from the outside, very cramped too. There seems to be a bed that doubles as a table, a stool that's serving as a bookcase rather than an actual place to sit, and bottles of who knows what all over. You can spot at least five black cats, and collections of all sorts of trinkets.

Where exactly do you have room to sleep?

"Oh I sleep on the floor, it's a lot more comfortable than it looks I assure you." Quelvin explains. Alright then, what do we do now... we could play cards I suppose? that's something people do right?" Quevlin grabs a deck of Tarrot cards from a bench. "We've never really hosted a real guest before, mostly just clients."

Clients? What services does a witch sell exactly?

Olivia claps excitedly, making her way to the collection of brightly colored vials and bottles.

Those cards don't seem like the ones that the patrons play with down at the bar. Are they special?

"Well uh, Mistress Olivia uses them to see the future sometimes, but the cards themselves are not particularly special as far as I'm aware... We can probably play a good old game of go fish with them." He looks to the witch for approval of the idea, she simply shrugs.

You decide that a game of go fish would be a pretty good time. Quevlin clears a space for the three of you on the floor, removes the major arcana from the deck, shuffles and deals to the three of you.

After a few rounds, it's all tied up, you draw a card. There must have been a mistake, you thought all the major arcana were removed. You show the others and put the Fool to the side with the other cards and draw another. The Devil... you draw another, The Devil...

A wind blows through the house and to the front door, it swings open as a dark elf stumbles in and clears the cards from her face. "Introducing the one and only, Lady Saleen"

Behind her, an armored Dark elf pushes through.

Me and Au'relio are here early. There's been a change of plans. What in the hells is a doll doing here? Why hasn't it been dismantled yet?

"Oh, lady Saleen, we didn't expect you so early... This is our guest, Miss Smith.

Salutations.

I want this THING removed immediately, I will not be discussing our rituals with some, toy, present.

How rude.

Au'relio looks kinda nervous. "Uh, I'm sorry, I was just doing as I was told, I uh, should I stop, I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable or anything." She lets go, and avoids making eye contact.

Quevlin gets to his feet. "Please Lady Saleen, this is our guest, she means us no harm, as a matter of fact, without her we wouldn't have acquired the Focusing Eye."

Very well, she can stay, but I will not be speaking to her, Au'relio, keep this doll company.

The servant dark elf is taken out of what seems to be a day dream. "What huh? Who? okay..."

The witch, her familiar and Lady Saleen move outside the house while discussing rituals. You can make out fragments of conversation, something about no longer needing the dagger or the moon if they just resort to- something... It's hard to hear them over Au'relio's mumbling. "That's super cool. That's fair. That's super cool. That's a relief. And uh... well basically, most dolls we've encountered have gone mad. Their minds are like ticking time bombs, the reality of where they are and what they are sinks and and boom! They go mental. That, and they are crafted with all sorts of valuable materials, so Saleen likes to dismantle any we come across, crazy or not. You don't have to worry about being killed though, she'd never be able to kill a doll, but you'd be surprised what they can live through... "

You don't like the sound of that...

The others all get up from talking. Quevlin approaches you. "Miss Smith, it is my understanding that you are a "doll" yes?"

That IS accurate, yes.

"Now, we've reached a conclusion that, in order to succeed in the ritual and save our glorious woods, we could simulate the power of the moons light, if we had the um... well, a piece of a doll. We came to the conclusion, that we should do the civil thing of asking you for it, rather then allowing Lady Saleen to take it by force..."

"I have just been talking with Aurelio, and I found out why you are so uncomfortable around me. You see, I am quite comfortable with how I am and what I am doing.
I have been nothing but kind, patient, and friendly to you, and it was out of my grace that you are alive. You threaten me with the use of force should I disagree with you cannibalizing my body, and I assume that if I give you 'just a piece' now, that you will want 'just a little bit more' later and again, and again. You see me as less than you, and you will try to exploit me.
Your companion, Mistress Olivia, must have had similar circumstance of people trying to take advantage of her for her muteness. I will not have it."

*turn to Lady Saleen*

"I know that you hold power, the Tarots made that clear through the Devil. I assume that you hold a debt over their heads? Or is it perhaps a contract?"
>>
>>877604
Sure. Take my left arm.

"Wait... Really?" Quelvin looks absolutely stunned.

If it means helping out my friends, I see no reason to hold on to it.

The witch and the dark elves all stare at each other.

"Well... thank you very much from your sacrifice. We can try to make it up to you somehow."

You get brought to the table inside the witches house, Olivia sweeping the bedsheets off of it. They lay you down and hold your left arm out. They all stare at Saleen, who draws a sword.

I still don't see why we don't just hack the whole thing apart.

You brace for what will surely be a painful experience, but the sword cleaves through your arm at the shoulder and you feel nothing.
