You are Paxious Dromus, a Zabrak Jedi Initiate at the Temple on Tython during an uneasy peace between the Republic and the Sith Empire. Having passed the tests to become an Initiate of the order, you attended your first day of classes only to find that one of your teachers, Master Beril, has been arrested as a suspected Sith. Despite the little training you've had, you can sense something is not right.

Currently, you stand between Jorraan and Nazz on a crowded transport headed for the Twi’lek settlement near the Temple on Tython. You, along with your friends and a few others, are going to assist the settlement in driving off the Flesh Raiders before they overrun the small colony.

The transport finally opens its doors to the setting sun on Tython’s thick forests. For a moment, you take in the sites.

“I’m just saying, you could try to bathe more than once a week!” Nazz says teasingly towards Jorraan.

“I do!” Jorraan says in his own defense, his voice still far too high for his gigantic frame, “I just get sweaty when I’m excited is all!”

You take note of everyone with you. There’s Master Retsma, stroking his bushy white beard in some kind of deep thought. There’s Kay Korrobi, Ara’s older sister who you have only just met. Besides that, there are your friends Ara, Jorraan, Nazz, and Lu. It seems like Jac also chose to come. There’s two other Initiates with you who you don’t know. They look like siblings, one boy and one girl, from what you can tell.

What will you do?

> Ask Master Retsma what the plan is
> Introduce yourself to those two Initiates you haven’t met
> Ask Kay if she’s done this before. She might have some pointers.

You approach Master Retsma. He doesn’t notice your presence at first, continuing to stroke his beard and gaze in the distance.

“So, what’s the plan?” you say, causing him to jump slightly.

“Plan? Oh, oh right. Well, to be honest Paxious, right now I’m just trying to figure out how I’m going to keep track of eight Initiates at once. Hopefully Kay, the bounty hunters, and I will be enough to keep anyone from doing something stupid. Flesh Raiders aren’t exactly smart enemies but one wrong move and you might find your arm or leg or, Force forbid, head making a good midnight snack for them. I’m glad you’re here at least. I trust you well enough.”

“Thank you Master,” you say with a slight bow.

“It’s a bit of a walk to the bounty hunter’s camp. There’s two of them. They’re the hired security and the main defense this settlement has against Flesh Raiders when no Jedi are available,” he says to you. “Everyone! Follow me. It’ll be a short walk South of here! Stay close though. I don’t think any Flesh Raiders have made it this far in, but they might have.”

As you walk, you decide to introduce yourself to the two Initiates you haven’t met.

Approaching them, you notice their white hair and pale skin. You think they might be Echani if what you’ve heard about Echani is correct.

“I don’t think we’ve met,” you say, grabbing the attention of the boy. “I’m Paxious. You can call me Pax.”

“I have seen you, Paxious,” he says. “Your performance against Master Retsma in combat was...average.”

“Yusa, do not be rude to a new acquaintance,” the girl says, “I’m sorry for my brother. He can be rather...abrasive when he wants to be.”

“No offense taken!” you say with a cheery smile, “My father gave me some training with a staff and hand-to-hand combat, but considering I’d never picked up a saber before, I’d say average is pretty damn good, especially against a Jedi master.”

“Oh, you had no formal training with a blade or saber prior to that day? Very impressive,” she says, elbowing her brother and giving him a slightly dirty look.

Yusa shrugs his shoulders and turns to look you in the eye, “Taking that into account, I suppose your display was somewhat impressive.”

“Well, it’s nice to meet you both, Yusa and…”

“Ria,” she finishes. “We are Yusa and Ria Bovona, proud members of the Echani clan. Forgive my brother’s arrogance. We are the only Initiates in the advanced lightsaber class and it seems that has caused my brother to forget that part of being a Jedi is humility.”

“And another part is being prepared for combat. Forgive me if I feel most of our peers are not,” Yusa adds in.

Ria glares at Yusa again.

Attempting to ease some of the tension, you change the subject. “So, tell me about yourselves. I’ve heard about Echani but I can’t say I really know much other than you guys know how to fight.”

Yusa smiles genuinely at you, “Knowing how to fight really isn’t the point. On our home system of Eshan, martial arts are much more an art than they are self-defense.”

Ria adds in, “That is correct. We were raised by our mother and father on Eshan without things such as the ‘holonet’ and I didn’t realize how different things are in the galaxy. I didn’t realize people thought of dancing and fighting as two separate activities.”

What do you say?

Fighting like a dance? That’s not how I was taught at all,” you say, recalling the constant headlocks and all the times your arm was pinned behind your back as your father shouted ways to spit, bite, or headbutt an opponent to get back on top and do the same to them. You recall putting a few of your little brothers through the same treatment. Not exactly musical.

“If you wish, we could demonstrate some time for you,” Yusa says, excitement visible in his eyes, despite his attempt to keep a stoic expression.

“I’d love to spar with either of you,” you say as you run your hand over your head to make sure your horns haven’t lost their sharpness. With all the excitement of the past few days, you haven’t had time to maintain them the way you normally do.

“So, how’d you two end up with the Jedi anyway?” you ask.

“Our mother has a friend in the Order. When she heard the Jedi were accepting older students, she was quick to offer us,” Ria says.

Yusa chimes in, “Father wasn’t happy, but it’s not as if he has any say in such matters.”

You’re about to comment on this when a Flesh Raider bursts from the forest brush around you. It roars loudly, blaster in one hand before tripping over a root and falling. Master Retsma is quick to step in front of it, cutting of its hand with a swing of his yellow saber.

“Now how did you get through--”

Before he can finish the sentence, a shot comes through the brush, hitting the Flesh Raider squarely between the eyes, killing it instantly.

“Bout time you Jedi got here!” a voice yells from the brush, “I was fixin to kill em all by lonesome self at this point!”

A Devaronian man reveals himself, a smile plastered on his face.

“My, my! So many young Jedi! Should me and Eri’Ta take a few with us on patrol? Or do you want to keep an eye on them, eh Master Retsma?”

What do you do?

You stay silent, letting Master Retsma make the decision himself.

“I want a Jedi keeping watch over these kids, no offense Nosho. Splitting up is a good idea, though. I’ll take half the Initiates and go find Eri’Ta. Kay can take the other half and go with you. Students! Divide into two groups,” Retsma says as a closes his lightsaber.

“Sounds good to me, boss!” Kay inserts as she bites her lip just slightly, “Can’t wait to get a piece of these Flesh Raiders. It’s been waaaay too long.”

“Knight Korrobi, do not relish in battle. That is not the Jedi way,” Retsma says with a raised eyebrow.

“I’m relishing in defending the settlement from these monsters! I think that’s allowable by the Jedi code!” Kay responds.

Retsma shrugs and rolls his eyes just slightly. “Alright, Initiates. We’re moving out.”

“Come on, sis!” Kay yells as Ara begrudgingly follows.

Yusa and Ria seem to be sticking close to Master Retsma.

“Hey, Jac! Stick with me!” you yell out as you go to follow Master Retsma.

“Hey, thanks! That bounty hunter kinda gives me the creeps!” Jac tells you with an awkward smile.

“Hey,” Nazz says as she catches up to you, “Need some company?”

“I wouldn’t mind it,” you respond with a smile as the three of you approach Master Retsma.

“Wait,” Master Retsma says, “This won’t do at all. There are five of you here and only three of you with Kay. One of you has to go with the other group.”

After a silent moment, Yusa says to Ria, “I’ll be fine! Really!” before running off towards Kay’s group. Ria gives a worried look as he runs off, but doesn’t pursue him.

“Let’s get going. We’re not going to find Eri’Ta by standing arou--”

Master Retsma is cut off when a Twi’lek woman emerges from the bushes and collides with him.

The two quickly get up, Master Retsma fussing over the dirt that got in his beard.

“They’re right behind me! Get ready!” the Twi’lek woman, who you can only assume is Eri’Ta, says as she draws a blaster pistol.

What will you do?

You open your practice saber and get ready for the Flesh Raiders to arrive. You can hear their guttural roars through the forest already. Standing right next to Jac, you close your eyes and attempt to reach out with the Force to grab any roots or branches you can find and use them to trip up the incoming attacker.

Lucky for you this jungle is so thick with brush. You’re able to easily find a concoction of loose vines and roots that you raise up at just the right time to trip of the first of the coming Flesh Raiders as they burst from the forest.

The first one trips while the second is shot in the neck by Eri’Ta, causing him to fall, gurgling, on top of the first one, trapping them both. Three more leap over the other two and approach you.

Jac seems on the verge of tears. It looks as if he won’t fight at all. He closes his eyes tightly and activates his practice saber.

Suddenly, Jac’s eyes open with a kind of fire you didn’t know he was capable of. He rushes forward and knocks one of the Flesh Raiders in the head hard. The creature stumbles back, falling into the other two where Nazz awaits, jamming her practice saber down hard and managing to skewer the three Flesh raiders in one blow.

“Damn,” says Eri’Ta as she holsters her blaster pistol.

Jac is breathing heavily, the fire from his eyes mostly gone.

“That was...amazing, Jac. You good?” you ask as you deactivate your practice saber and move to check that all the Flesh Raiders are dead.

“Yeah...just...need a minute…” he huffs out with a smile making its way onto his face.

“Sorry Jac, we don’t have a minute. We need to move out now,” Master Retsma says.

“What’s our objective, Master?” you ask Master Retsma, readying yourself to move out.

“Well,” he says, “We’re looking to kick all of the Flesh Raiders off this hill. To do that, we need to destroy any camps they’ve made and then cut the bridges they built to get here. I don’t think we’ll be able to do all that tonight, but we should at least be able to destroy their main camp. That’s what we’re looking for now.”

“That’s what I stumbled on when those five chased me. Follow me and I’ll lead you right to them,” Eri’Ta says with a wild smile.

“Eri’Ta, right? I’m Paxious. This is Nazz and that’s Jac. Oh and that’s Ria standing next to Master Retsma,” you say, introducing your group.

“Glad to have you here. Let’s move out,” she says, grabbing her blaster pistol and making her way into the brush that the Flesh Raiders had emerged from.

You follow her into the jungle where Jac promptly trips on a nearby branch, causing a bird to squawk loudly at him. Nazz covers her mouth and hides a giggle. Jac gets up with his face bright red as he swats at the bird, “Sorry, sorry!” he whisper-shouts.

Retsma motions for you all to be quiet.

Nazz, however, wasn’t looking at Master Retsma because she was looking at Jac’s embarrassed face. Nazz thinks for a moment before declaring, “Oh no! I’ve tripped!” followed by her falling rather unconvincingly. “Man, it’s really easy to trip in all this brush, right Jac?” Nazz says to him. Jac seems relatively relieved that he isn’t the only one to trip.

Master Retsma lets out a loud shush as he and Eri’Ta peer through a bush at what seems to be the camp.

“What is the plan?” whispers Ria as she readies her practice saber.

Eri’Ta gives a small smile before handing her something. She approaches you and hands you it as well. You unwrap the cloth covering it to reveal a remote mine. Eri’Ta gives one to each of the Initiates, holding up a remote in her hands.

It looks like you’re taking a less direct approach with these Flesh Raiders.

I mean, you can definitely do that but it's super hard to go undetected when you literally throw an explosive device at one of your enemies (in other words, slightly higher DC than just setting the normal high would be).

Even if you succeed, Master Retsma will probably chastise you about being more careful in the future. Everyone else will be really damn impressed, though.
>>
>>892049
If we throw the mine right into the middle of a big grouping of flesh raiders, we can take care of a big chunk of the work we're here for with one blast.

It may be hard to go undetected if we throw an explosive implement at a target, but it's hard to go detected when everything that would detect you is dead.
