General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics are up in the air. Suggestions are welcome. We'll be trying some new things out so I appreciate your patience as we fine tune it. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves, so beware of that timing. I also want to try a more varied turn system so you and your opponent can do a few things in a row more often. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture.

Gobble (Munchlax)

Belladonna (Budew)

“Well I have to say, I am impressed, Jonbuddai. Very few people are able to get their first badge at my gym. I, Kalty Una, the Electric Storm, chief engineer of our islands tidal electric project, and native citizen, congratulate you.” He really emphasises the titles. He offers you an arm up.

“Now, I know we didn’t get a chance to see it in action, but Volt Switch is a great move, Jonbuddai. It lets your pokemon attack and go back to their pokeball right after. Great for switching in a battle. Use it wisely though, since your pokemon will have to switch whether they want to or not.”

The technician asks Kalty something technical about the water cannon as he tweaks something on it from a ladder.

You quickly consult your pokedex while that’s going on. From a quick check, it doesn’t look like any of your pokemon can learn Volt Switch.

You hold the TM. “Thanks. I really appreciate it.”

“Don’t worry about it.” He tells you. “You earned it, Jonbuddai.”

You raise a finger. “Umm, actually, my friends call me Herb.”

“That’s great, Jonbuddai.” He steps in around you and cups his hands. “Hana, you’re up next! Head on over to the challenger area.”

You feel completely dismissed.

Hana springs up from her spot in the bleachers. She gets confused on her way on how to get from there to where you were standing, since there’s a wheelchair ramp that makes a winding path. It’s not too complicated, but she’s feeling the pressure of having all eyes on her.

“No! Go around- Yeah. No not down there, you’ve got to turn to- No! The other way! Not- Yeah! There.”

She finally arrives at the right spot. The gym leader looks down at you. “I wouldn’t recommend watching from here, unless you want that hair to get even spikier.”

Oh right! You quickly get up and head to the bleachers. You need to pass by Hana to get there.

She was watching the fight the whole time, so I feel most of the others could come across as a bit insulting. We should just trust in her.

>>899204
We already have Gobble for Normal types; though I do like the idea in general. Its why I liked the idea of a Tropius and also wouldn't mind something like a Honey Gather Cutiefly (among other reasons).
>>
>>899225
>>899245
Hm... well, Skiddo/Gogoat can learn milk drink too, plus we don't have a transport mon. I like the honey gather idea too, though combee/tediursa can have it too. I'd like to see John have a Haojin Exeggcutor with Harvest for berry duplication too. Can't think of any other food mon right now. Maybe Crabrawler/Crabominable. They regrow their arms.

Oh god, cutting off a Pokemons arm for it to grow back later!! Oh god!

I do like the idea of a skiddo, it could be a fun grass pokemon. Shame that Bella sorta fills that roll already.

I could really get behind a female combee or an exeggcute. Exeggcute is a classic, and the Alola Exeggutor is Grass/Dragon, which might be an interesting type to have.

“Good luck.” You put a hand on her shoulder. Her eyes go from the floor to yours.

“Thanks.” She smiles. She gently grabs the hand you’re resting on her shoulder and holds in between the both of you.

For some reason her smile becomes solid and she’s freezing up.

“Are you okay?”

“YES!” She shouts. She coughs and looks away. “Yes. Thanks.”

You go and sit down to watch. You take your pokemon out so they can watch too. Gobble is awake again, but not moving much. You pat him on the head.

While that’s happening, you can hear Hana and the gym leader yelling back and forth to each other. He’s agreeing to two pokemon each.

Hana throws out her two pokemon, Tirtouga and Togepi. The drained arena still has a little wetness to it, but nothing major. Both pokemon look back to her. She gives an awkward thumbs up that morphs into an even more awkward wave.

He throws out a Graveler and Jolteon. You quickly consult your pokedex on them. Jolteon you know about, since sometimes people comment on your hair and make a comparison. Graveler you thought you knew about, but it doesn’t look like how you remember. Are they electric here?

Tirtouga uses Aqua Jet and hits Graveler dead on, but takes a Thundershock to the back from Jolteon! Togepi uses Yawn on it.

“Tirtouga!” Hana shouts.

Graveler uses Rock Polish.
“Go Hana!” You leap up and shout. “You can do it! Go Tirtouga and Togepi, too!”

Bella gets up and starts cheering too, in her out way. She mostly jumps and makes cute noises. She gets really excited and uses Water Sport, making producing a fine, sparkly explosion of water in the air.

Mace, who was also cheering in his more restrained way, grumbles at her and hops under the bleachers for cover. He gets over it quickly and makes some enthusiastic kick and tackling motions as he watches, though.

Jolteon has fallen asleep and both Togepi and Tirtouga are ganging up on Graveler. It hits Togepi with Rock Throw, but takes a Water Gun from Tirtouga. When it turns around to face the turtle pokemon, Togepi sneaks in with a Sweet Kiss.

Hana is doing great!

You look to the woman and her child. “So, come here often?”

Her eyebrow raises and she looks down at you smugly. “Smooth, kid?”

“Smooth what?” You’re confused.

She laughs. “I come here too often.” She laments. “Somebody doesn’t remember his lunch.” She holds out a basket and looks over to the gym leader. “Or much of anything else, outside of work.”

Her kid leans over to pet Gobble. He’s a little rough, though, and it’s annoying Gobble.

“You’re married to the gym leader?”

“In theory.” She sighs. She catches herself. “It’s always the power station or this gym. Who needs a gimmick like this to battle children?” She waves the lunchbox at the water cannon and arena in general. “Oh, I’m sorry.” She offers you an apologetic smile.

“It’s okay.”

“You’re a sweet teenager, for a mainlander. Respecting your elders like that.”

“You don’t look like an elder.”

She laughs and leans in closer. “Oh, you’re good. This is the kind of attention a doting wife should be getting.”

You laugh too, but nervously.

Gobble’s annoyed sound draws your attention. Her little girl is really bothering him.

“Oh hey. Gobble doesn’t like that.” You shift over. “Here, do it like this.” You rub his belly.

Gobble enjoys it despite himself and throws his arms and legs wide to give you more access. The little girl pets him that way and he tolerates it.

“Dear, don’t bother other people’s pokemon.” The mother says while not really watching. “Play with Pichu.”

She starts petting Pichu the same way you showed her to pet Gobble. But Pichu really seems to hate it.

There’s a bright flash. The battle is still raging. Graveler is soaked and asleep now and Hana’s pokemon are ganging on up Jolteon. It looks like things are really coming down to the wire. Oh wow! Tirtouga just barely avoided an attack and Graveler ended up being shocked instead!

Hana looks around to see if everyone saw that.

“GO HANA!” You leap up! She’s facing a really tough battle but she’s really doing well.

She lights up when she looks at you. “Fucking right!” She shouts, then covers her mouth. She sounds like a completely different person when she swears. She goes back to directing her pokemon.

There’s a flash and zap off to your side. You see Pichi running off and hopping out the high window, and the little girl holding her hand.

“Tatia!” The mother yells and examines her child’s hand. To your relief, it looks perfectly fine. In her mom’s eyes though, you get the feeling that it looks like her hand got blown off.

“Pichu!” the little girl little girl starts crying.

Despite the commotion and battle, it immediately gets Kalty’s attention. He turns serious. “Jolteon, helping hand. Graveler, Self-Destruct.” He starts walking away from the arena and towards you without even watching the results. Togepi and Tirtouga are immediately and without question knocked out. Jolteon is just healed from the electrical blast, probably thanks to Volt Absorb.

Hana’s high spirits drop. She stands there, completely stunned.

“What happened?” He demands as he closes the distance to you.

“I don’t know! Pichu just zapped her and ran away!”

“I...” you look down, “I think she pet Pichu wrong. See, I was showing her how to pet Gobble, because he likes it on his belly, but-”

“You were supposed to be watching her!” He says as calmly as he can manage, not wanting to scare his kid.

“Oh, so now you care about who's watching your child?” She also does her best not to say it too loudly, but it doesn’t help.

“Look, it doesn’t matter. We need to find Pichu before that storm hits.”

The window that Pichu jumped out of flaps in the window. You can see heavy clouds outside, but no rain yet.

>>
You slide away from the bickering couple. You’re not really comfortable with confrontation like this. You want to help search for Pichu, but you think it’s best to check on Hana first.

Hana is still standing there, looking blankly at the arena. Everything was going so well, and he just ended it without effort. All the gains she was making were just what he was allowing.

Graveler is laying out on the field. He’s not in pain, but he looks very pooped.

Jolteon, who was checking on Tirtouga, briskly walks over to Togepi. Both pokemon are fine, going by what the gym leader taught you to look out for, but completely unable to battle.

Hana starts walking over to her pokemon, but hasn’t said anything.

I think it was galvanized, actually. Makes it an even faster, more powerful combo. Volt absorb makes all the crueler.

I think the anger doesn't just come from his disrespecting Hana by walking away during the match without a word. That clearly isn't a first-gym level tactic. If he thought that were appropriate, he would have used it at the start of the match. As it stands, it doesn't really measure the trainer's skill or power. We'll give him a chance to apologize, and if he hasn't once things are safe, we'll let him know as much. Give him a telling-off for what almost happened to Mace, too.

Even if you are just testing them, it's kind of dickish to not take your opponent seriously like that. I bet being crushed right out wouldn't be as bad as thinking you were doing well only to find out that they obviously weren't even trying.

Also, we really should check on Tirtouga just to be safe; an inattentive selfdestruct with all the bonuses you can think of might have been dangerous to a low-level mon.

Hana checks on her Tirtouga, apologizes to it, then puts it back in it’s ball. She does the same for Togepi, then mumbles an apology to you too.

“You don’t have anything to be sorry for. Especially not to me. I thought you were doing great.”

“No I wasn’t.” She looks down. “And I am sorry. We trained together and I let down my pokemon and you. I was just wasting everyone’s time.”

“It’s my fault. I set everything in motion with Pichu.” You explain about the belly rubs.

“That’s not your fault.” She tells you. “I would have lost anyway. I just don’t have wh-”

You can’t stand hearing her say that. You cut her off with a hug.

Hana freezes for a moment, then relaxes, then hugs you back.

“It’s okay.”

You both hold each other for what feels like a really short, but really long time.

You hear a phone ring and look back to the gym leader. He flips it open. “Now? I thought we had preparations for...no. I understand. I’ll be right down.” He hangs up. “I have to go. The station is having problems and with the storm coming they need me.”

“But what about Pichu?” She asks.

You step forward. “I’ll look for Pichu.”

Hana steps forward. “Me too.”

He looks the two of you over. You see his stressed face soften when he sees Hana’s watery eyes. “Are you sure?”

You nod.

He hesitates, but agrees. “Okay. But if things get bad you two come back and get to shelter. Now look, Pichu’s tend to gravitate to shelter when they’re scared. But, they also like to be away from people and other pokemon. They also like to be near electricity in general.” He breaks down a list of a few locations Pichu might be at.

If he doesn't apologize at all when things have settled, I say we turn in our badge. If that tactic was used on us, we would have been creamed. It's not right to keep it if he was holding back with us where he wouldn't with someone else.

“We should ask everyone else for help, and get healed up.” You try sending a text, but your Pokedex is showing no signal. You look out to the heavy clouds.

“I can get them.” Hana says. “I probably don’t even need to get too close. Just a shorter range.”

“Are you sure?”

“I won’t be long.” She says. “And I can run pretty fast.” She mumbles, not wanting to draw too much attention to the details.

“Are there any isolated substations nearby?” Your mind races for places the pokemon could be.

Kalty opens a case and hands you a technical sheet. “Yeah. Good thinking. Right along this line here. Just follow along these wires.” He hitches the case up and grabs the sheet back.. “Sorry. I need it.”

“What about healing our pokemon?”

He grimaces. He doesn’t really think it’s necessary, but doesn’t argue it. “There’s a healing machine in the back.” He motions the technician to help you out, kisses his daughter on her forehead, then begrudgingly his wife, and leaves.

Hana hands you her Pokemon and takes off, too. “I’ll follow the line and catch up when I get back.” You’re pretty surprised at how assertive she’s gotten. And wow, she runs fast!

The technician opens the back door for you and revs up the machine. The back room is a bit disorganized and dusty. You spot what looks like an emergency healing kit under some stuff in the back. The technician already left, though. You open it up and find some revives.

You put in Gobble and Hana’s pokemon, scribble a quick note, and take off. It’s already getting really windy. As you run out, you feel a drop.

Your eyes shoot up to the wires above, and you follow. You hope Pichu’s okay. You can’t help but feel a little guilty for your involvement. And your sense of injustice is also nagging you about how he handled ending his battle with Hana because of it.

You put those feelings aside for now and check under the first substation. At least, that’s what you assume this thing is. You don’t see anything, though. You get up and run towards the next one.

The rain starts coming down.

You slow down to a fast walk as your legs get tired. In your slower pace, you notice a small cave. It only becomes visible when the wind blows the bushes really hard. You could go check it out, but you might just be wasting time, and if Hana or the others come by she’ll probably go right past you. It looks like a tight fit, too.

Then again, it seems like where you’d go hide if you were a small pokemon.

You thumb over Mace’s pokeball. You could ask him to help. He’s lived on this island his whole life, and he seemed pretty independent before you caught him.

And then he had kids go out into the rain to find his Pokemon. The man just sucks straight dick.

To be fair, we don't know how he is as a parent, we volunteered to go out in the rain, and complaining about the TM he gave us as a standard prize is a bit ridiculous.

The rest of the objections are quite valid, however.
>>
>>901793
>>901893
Yeah. I think the most we can do is recommend he bring in some help, considering he seems kind of spread thin. We'll give him a heads up that Palm will expect an apology, and if that doesn't convince him there's not much we can say from our position that will.
>>
>>901957
Also maybe tell him to just call time out instead of going 100% fuck over the challenger.
>>
>>901976
I think that while that's the point we want to get across to him, just telling him how to do his job which he's so clearly proud of won't go over well.

We either need to ask him why he went easier on us, which would allow him to realize that he was too harsh on Hana, or we return our badge and prizes because we know we won because he held back, allowing him to realize he was too harsh with Hana. Hopefully he'll apologize on his own, and no drama will be necessary.
>>
>>902011
I'm alright with that, but I feel like we should still call him out on his other shit.

like another anon said, he seems more self centered than actively malicious, so hopefully just bringing up his family issues will open his eyes to it.
>>
>>902315
>outsider bringing up your family issues
That will do nothing but piss him off, I assure you, no matter how justified you might be.
>>
>>902011
I really like the idea of Herb giving back his badge back, not even upset and just saying based on Hana's battle he doesn't deserve it. If he was going easy on us we didn't get it on our own merits. I think that should be enough for our point. As for his job, or family we have no place to tell him he is wrong. I would be for mentioning that his wife wants to spend more time with him and the Professor wants to talk to him about a faulty electrical job. Anything else is just assuming too much.
>>
>>902367
This guy gets it.
Phrasing and word choice are really important. Once you set somebody against you, they'll oppose every idea you put forwards. Like how with Jane we asked what happened between her and Laki, not what her problem was with Laki.
>>
>>902315
>>902351
This guy is right.

A person outside the family will either be ignored or get berated for telling anyone how to be a parent. Herb shouldn't step into something that's not his business.
>>
>>902367
>If he was going easy on us we didn't get it on our own merits
Aren't Gym leaders supposed to take it somewhat easy on trainers, or at least hold back to some degree?
>>
>>902632
[That's how I see it.]
>>
>>902632
You would think, but he didn't seem to with Hana, who has exactly as many badges as us. If he had made a move like that against us, we would have lost fast. So either he didn't hold back against Hana where he should have, or he did hold back against us where he shouldn't have. And it's a better move to act on the assumption that he was too charitable, rather than too harsh.

Didn't they cover that point in Pokemon Origins when Red fought Brock? Red said he had no badges so Brock only used his 2 weakest Pokemon out of his possible 6.
>>
>>902668
It seemed like he gave her about the same as what he gave us until the Pichu thing happened and he decided he had other, more important. shit to deal with and ended the fight.
>>
>>902731
Exactly. We, as the audience, can infer that he was holding back against Hana by keeping from using that particular advanced strategy that he ended the match with, and that he was supposed to hold back because she had no badges.
Now, the responsible thing to do in his situation would have been to call off the match to attend to his kid. Instead, he blew off Hana by turning his back on the match before it was officially over and didn't say a word to her about the match afterwards. He's got important business to attend to, which is why we haven't said anything to him about it yet.
I know that Hana's no glass flower, she's not traumatized, but it's still a shitty way to treat a kid starting out on their journey, especially since he's an authority figure.
So if he never apologizes, which would indicate that he did react inappropriately for his station as a gym leader, then the polite takeaway for a respectful kid would be that he didn't act inappropriately in his match with Hana.
That would indicate that he held back against us, and we would then have the opportunity to make a gesture which may make him realize that he should at least talk to Hana about the way that match ended.

(Also I'm this guy>>902668)

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics are up in the air, but can be summed up as a more freestyle system vaguely inspired by the Pokemon Tabletop United system, anime, manga, and games. There are no "turns," just points where voting for a different strategy or move is appropriate.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture.

You take Mace out of his ball. You were carrying him to keep him as fresh as can be. That, and you’re not sure how much energy it takes to make him fast.

“Can you hear anything from that cave?”

He hops over and focuses hard. You can see his auditory...face thing carefully pop in and out. He seems to be trying to listen for different pitches.

The wind blows hard and nearly knocks you over. Mace is lower to the ground, though.

He faces up to you and shakes his head. Or is that more accurately called his body? Either way, it’s a negative. The wind is just too much.

Wait, he cocks his head.

“Did you hear something?”

He gives a weird motion.

“You’re not sure?”

He nods.

You take a moment to figure out what to do. “Okay!” You have to shout. “I’ll check it out. You stay here and let Hana and the others know where I went.”

Mace nods adamantly, despite his unease. He takes his assigned duty seriously and perches himself up where he’ll be visible.

You crawl into the narrow area of the cave. Sure is dark in here.

You take out your cooking lighter. You can see, but not very far.

Once you’re deep enough, the cave opens up and lets you stand again. You take out your pokedex and crank up the brightness.

You look around as best you can in the dark. Your eyes are adjusting though. The small but reliable and steady amount of light from the pokedex helps a lot.

There a strong whistling noise coming from the way you came, but it fades as you get deeper.

The first thing that strikes you is nothing. In that, there’s nothing here. No pokemon, no sign of activity. Just rocks and a two in stream of water. At least, to the best of your knowledge. You’re not exactly the survivalist type. All you know is that there’s nothing obvious.

Still, this leaves you with a problem. How are you supposed to find Pichu, if he’s even here? Searching would take forever

>Shout for Pichu as loud as you can
>Use the battery from your Pokedex to make a current in small stream (this kills the battery)

You decide to play to your strengths. If there’s one thing that’s worked out consistently for you, it’s cooking. Although technically you’re actually not going to cook anything good. You’re just going to try to produce a smell. If that doesn’t lure out Pichu, then he just isn’t in this cave!

You combine some spices, bouillon cube, and a small bit of kibble, aiming for maximum scent. Using your lighter, and your cast iron pan, you carefully heat it. And using your shirt, you waft them smell as far as it can go.

Oh man, does it smell good.

There’s a small stirring off to the side.

“Pichu?”

A small creature, Pichu’s size, shuffles a little closer. The pokedex’s light isn’t enough to entirely tell what you’re looking at. You lower yourself down.

A heavy flapping catches you off guard from the other side. You hear a snap above you where your head was a second ago. You stumble forward to avoid another. As you turn around, you see your attacker is some sort of huge pokemon with three heads.

It flies away but starts circling back. It’s going to attack again! You reach for your pokeball but it’s already closing the gap before you can throw it. In a panic you stumble forward and kick the pan. It bounces off of one of the heads and lands back in your hand. You raise it up instinctually and hear another loud clang as the other head smacks into it when trying to attack you.

“Sorry!” You throw your arms to the side. But as you do, it smacks against the third head that was trying to come around at a different angle. It's like a scene out of a Jackie Hitmonchan movie.

The pokemon stumbles over itself, and almost you, as it comes to a hard crash.

A pokeball would be handy right about now.

Against every urge your body screams at you, you step towards it instead of away. “Are you okay?”

It reacts a little, but not much. As you get closer and shine a light on it, it tries to move away. But since it’s laying out so strangely it just flops over onto it’s back.

“Hey. Hey. it’s alright. I’m not going to hurt you.” You really hope it feels the same way.

One head growls. The other whimpers. You shine the light closer

Oh. It’s really skinny. It doesn't look good at all.

“Oh no. You’re hungry, aren’t you?” Your eyes go to the entrance. Is that the only way in? That’s too small for this pokemon.

You quickly glance to the other smaller pokemon. It’s keeping it’s distance, away from the light, but it’s not going anywhere.

A snap grabs your attention. The third head, while unable to move the body, just tried to grab a bite of your arm. It’s still pretty dangerous.

You take out some kibble, spices, and a few other things. You’ve heard it’s a bad idea to feed some more dangerous wild pokemon, but you just can’t help yourself. This one, or three, is in bad shape.

Truth be told, you’re at a pretty bad handicap. The only fire source you have is your camper lighter. But with a little oil and patience, you’re able to get something going.

It’s limbs aren’t working entirely right, but the pokemon is slowly recovering. It approaches and growls to get you to back away from the food. You pick up the pan and point it at him. Or her. You’re not certain. “It’s not ready yet.”

It backs away as soon as you grab the pan.

You finish up as quickly as you can. Not a moment too soon, either, it’s getting braver and more desperate.

You toss it a piece and it practically inhales. You toss it another and two heads fight over it.

“Hey. Be nice. It’s all going to the same place.”

Both turn to you to growl, but since you have the pan the both avoid eye contact when they do. You feed it the rest, but each time you give it a piece it becomes more aggressive. You made a lot, but it’s apparently not enough.

“That’s all I have.”

It growls, then whimpers and slumps. After that digests, it should regain a lot of strength.

You turn to the other pokemon. It hasn’t come any closer. Any time you get nearer, it backs away. If it’s Pichu, it’s being really paranoid. You were planning on offering it some of the food, but the three-headed pokemon ate it all.

You hear loud thunder outside, even through the deep cave tunnel. It must be nasty out there for poor Mace.

You don’t want to be too forceful. That’s what make Pichu leave in the first place.

Wait! You have the perfect idea. You’ll send out Bella! She can vouch for you.

“Go Bella!”

The cave lights up as she comes out, causes everyone to squint or cover their eyes.

While you’re at it, you call to Mace. “Mace! Mace! If you can hear me, come on in!”

Nothing.

You walk to the very edge of the cave and shout again. After a short wait, he comes in. He scrambles to be fighting ready as soon as he sees the three-headed pokemon. You have to wave him to stop before he attacks. They both glare at each other and keep their distance.

“Alright Bella. If you don’t mind, can you tell our friend over-”

It’s already out, and pestering Bella! A small, flying pokemon with a needle nose. It’s like it’s trying to land on her! She runs around, avoiding it.

>Hey! Cut that out! Leave her alone

Mimikyu could also be okay if we can work around its anger-ghost tendencies. Also. I think Keira might have a heart attack if we walk out into a storm, crawl into a dark cave, then come back with an angry ghost.

She goes online and writes a dumb theory about how thst Hydreigon killed us and the rest of the story is all a dream or something, all while making sure Mimikyu isn't reading over her shoulder.

We'll be ok once our patent for Worry Seed Coffee goes through

Seriously tho, we may have already earned bonus points with hydreigon. It just comes down to how well we handle things between Belladonna and Cutiefly (as aforementioned the evolved form really suits use and has pretty good coverage bug/fairy w/ grass moves)
>>
>>904875
I feel like we should just let it go, it seems like a dick move to have a pokemon agree to stay with you because it was starving and stuck at the time
>>
>>904871
oh, we could get mace to expand the tunnel with rock blast or try to learn dig

but should we really release a pokemon known for destroying towns? Even if it's native, that's not a pokemon you want running around. Unless we can convince it to be chill(maybe by feeding the nicest head so it becomes strongest of the three), it would probably cause trouble for the island.

or it acts like a forest fire, destroying so growth can happen. Depending on what happens, we could get a crystal out of releasing it
>>

“Hey! Cut that out!” You warn it.

The large pokemon is quickly regaining strength and gets up. It doesn’t seem to like the tone you’re taking with the small bug. They must be friends.

Mace positions himself between you and it. It cares, but not enough to back off.

“Everyone, relax.” You pick up your pan to put it away. The large dragon and the small fly stop. Belladonna and Mace also theor their attention to you. When they do, the fly goes back to collecting something off of Bella, but she doesn’t notice.

“Neither of you have seen a Pichu, have you? Small mouse pokemon, about this big?”

The two don’t seem to know what you’re talking about. Dang. This is a bust.

Bella finally does notice the bug pokemon poking deeper into her flower and fires a warning shot of Pin Missile.

The dragon rears up again. This time with more energy and determination. Things are getting tense.

“I have an idea. If I catch you, then you can get out.” You reach for a pokeball.

Once it’s visible though, the dragon roars and moves towards you. It doesn’t attack, but it’s clearly not okay with the idea.

“But you can get through the hole and-”

It roars again. Belladonna and Mace form ranks in front of you. Bella accidentally uses Water Sport on the floor, though. You’re pretty sure that if Mace could sweat, he would be doing so right now.

“Okay, okay. Just a suggestion.” You put the ball away. Even the small bug pokemon seems to think it’s being unreasonable.

You start backing out of the cave with your pokemon. Before you do though, you see the dragon giving a regretful, but still prideful look.

Maybe another time.

The wind and rain is intense. You have to hold an arm in front of your face because the sideways rain stings. Thunder booms disturbingly close

I wound up liking those two a lot more than I thought I would. Everything about the game was so great, especially after what's felt like two disappointing generations in a row. Hau's crush on Lillie was cute, even though she clearly had a crush on chicken-chan, and I got into character enough that I sort of decided she would have reciprocated had Lillie been able to tell her. It made the ending a little sad, with neither of them being able to work up the courage to tell each other how they feel, even though they'd both saved the world, and one of them was the champion.

I like to think that when Lillie comes back from Kanto in a few years, their feelings get rekindled and they finally get together.

You wish you could stay and help, but they’re safe for now, and Pichu might not be.

“I’ll come back!” You shout. “I promise!”

You retrieve your two pokemon. As you do, you see Belladonna giving you a scared look at the prospect of coming back before she vanishes in the ball. Mace gives a concerned look too.

But you can’t just leave them there. You grab a sturdy branch and plant it deep into the ground outside of the cave to mark it, just in case you have trouble finding it later.

The wind and rain whips at you as you push yourself down the path of the power line. You’re nearly pushed over a few times. You’ve never seen a storm this intense in your life. You feel small, and powerless.

Pichu probably feels that way too.

You push on.

After what feels like forever, you find your way to the next substation. You check under and around it. Nothing. After an even longer time, you repeat it at the next one. Then the one after that. The sunlight, or at least what little bit was getting through the heavy clouds, is fading. The rain, thunder, and lightning, is not.

As you bring your head up this time, though, you see what looks like Hana in the distance. She’s running towards the gym, and it looks like she has something in her arms.

In the opposite direction though, is a small, thin figure that you’re pretty sure is Keira. She’s just outside of the tree line.

You decide to run for Keira. You’re not sure if you could manage to catch Hana if you tried.

It takes you a surprisingly long time to close the distance. Luckily she’s not really heading away.

“Herb?” You see her mouth it more than say it. Her makeup is very subtly running, but still easily covering her face.

“What are you doing?” You motion to the area as you shout.

“...found...spirit...guide it...” You can only catch a few words, but you get the general idea.

“You found a spirit and guided it?” You’re guessing that’s what she’s saying. “Is it okay?”

She puts her hand up and points while holding her thumb up. She thinks about it for a second and corrects it, just giving a regular thumbs up.

“Did you find Pichu?”

“...found...Hana...back to...”

You think she means Hana took Pichu back to the gym, maybe.

Your mind goes back to the sheet the gym leader showed you. As far as you can remember, you’re not too far from a shed for power line works. But if you’re wrong, it’ll be pretty bad.

A gust of wind nearly bowls you over. Even the normally graceful Keira stumbles a bit from the sudden force.

It’s getting really dark, really fast. You could go back to the cave. It’s farther than the shed and the dragon might not like another visitor, but at least it’s shelter you know how to get to. The gym is farthest, but it’ll be warm and dry. You could also try your luck with the shed if your memory is right.

>>905262
>>Lead her to the shed

Hydreigon have the whole 'tormented soul' thing. Keira would probably freak he fuck out, which if she's guiding a spirit somewhere, probably isn't the best idea to go messing with.

First though, check if she's going to be okay, because she sounds really out of it.

We can check on Hydreigon tomorrow, but still, mention it to her at the least. She might be able to help it.

“We should find shelter!”

She nods. She grabs your hand to take you somewhere, but you instead point in the other direction. She cocks her head, but goes along with it.

You follow the power line and really hope that you’re right. There’s a huge sense of relief when it turns out to be the case. Your spirits drop when you find the door is locked, though.

Keira can see the issue from your failure to open it. She shivers and rubs her arms. As cold as you are, the skinny, half naked girl in front of you must be freezing.

Well, you’re not going to just stand here! You know what you have to do! You roll up your sleeves, put your shoulder forward, and get ready to force your way in. One. Two. Gah!

Keira climbs up your back. She’s already off of you before you realize what happened. She’s crawling into a barely open window, high above the door. She rips through the screen, and a few seconds later the door in front of you opens.

“Good thinking.” You tell her as you rush in and close the door behind you. The shed is small and simple, but dry inside. Shelves full of tools line the walls.

She smiles and looks around the shed. "I was going to say the same thing! This is way closer than the gym." Her makeup is even more messy now, but still a long while off from being able to see her face.

Brrr. you’re still freezing. And so is she.

Starting a fire is actually a really bad idea if we don't have enough circulation with the outside. Smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide.

If either of you start exhibiting symptoms of hypothermia though, then cast social norms to the wind and share heat because that shit can get bad in a hurry.

You close the window at the top to keep the cold wind out. It’s amazing how quickly you got used to the heat of the islands, and how much you miss it now that it’s gone.

“I’ve got an idea.” You throw out Bella. “Bella, can you absorb the water from my clothes?”

She looks at you strangely, but gives it a try. She drains most of the loosest moisture out. It’s still a little damp, but it’s a lot better than it was. You hold your arms up so she can get it from everywhere.

Keira slaps your open palm. “You’re full of good ideas!” She immediately takes off her clothes and has her Tropius do the same thing.

You try not to look but you totally look. She rubs her arms together and runs in place while Tropius drains the moisture from the small amount of clothing she had on. Oh man oh man how is it that her naked form is so vulnerable looking yet so intimidating? You feel a little guilty about taking a mental snapshot, but your brain does it before you can stop it.

Oh jeez. That really isn’t good for the colouring. Your clothes look a bit faded and worn out after Bella is done. She plops herself on her butt after. She’s had a long day and needs to sit down.

Once that’s done, the two of you look around the shed. Keira laughs when she finds a towel.

“You can use it as a blanket at least.” She tosses it to you and breathes into her hands.

“What about you?”

She holds up a finger. “It’s a priestesses duty to make sure the soon-to-be-departed are comfortable.”

You freeze. “Soon to be departed?”

She laughs. “You’re too easy, Herb.” She shivers again. “Relax. Go to sleep. I promise you’ll probably wake up in the morning.”

“Probably?” You don’t let it get you this time, but you still ask.

“I mean. Sometimes it just happens, you know?”

Well that’s less reassuring. Her breath is visible, like a spirit leaving a body. You can see your own, too.

>>
>>905428
That spoiler is probably a good idea if only for character development.

As to aura, the only two pokemon with any real attachment to it are Riolu and Lucario.

They're both really good, but they're really common in fanfiction, the execution of which is often iffy.

If anyone could do a good job of it, it'd be Gobble, but I'm on conflicted on it.

Given the choice, I'd be all for it though.

That said, Jangmo-o would be my fighter of choice for this quest.

Kommo-o is really, really good.

>>
>>905433

Mienshao and any Pokemon that learns Aura Sphere may have a connection to Aura. Also Lucario is so boring just because it is already done everywhere. Gobble could do it well, but I'd rather see something that isn't one of the most popular Pokemon and pushed by Game Freak.
>>
Alright, so I Have some medical background and thought I'd just pop in and give some advice.

Obviously we don't know exactly how cold it's going to get here, but just assuming from the fact it's raining and about to be night, I'd say pretty cold.

So, first thing; damp clothes are still dangerous in this sort of situation and we should take them off.

We should also share body heat with Keira and any warm blooded pokemon we have (I'm not sure if there are cold blooded pokemon, but you never know).

And last thing to bring up is we shouldn't sleep, or at least not all at once. Your body can't keep you as warm when you're asleep so we should just stay up to try to keep warm.

>>
>>905448
Probably one of my least favorite water types in the series. Gamefreak had to cuck it out of an evolution with Amolaloma and doom it to shitmon hood forever.
>>
>>905448
Howabout Starmie....

Even I have limits
>>
>>905445
True, but there's also the character aspect and Gardevoir have a lot of potential there.

If we don't get it, then that's that, it was the dismissal out of hand because of fear of going waifumon that was the crux of the argument.

I get what you're saying, but popularity really shouldn't be a deciding factor when it comes to choosing pokemon.

Raistlin was a good example, especially in the part of the last quest where he battled Kat.
>>
I'd rather have a wishiwashi if we go for a pure water type.

also... random Idea... get an unburden hawlucha, give it an assault vest, teach it fling and roost and some good attacking moves... beat up things till you think you can only live 1 more hit then fling the vest and use your now doubled speed to get off a quick roost.
disrobing wrestler might be a funny mon for herb to use.
>>
>>905453
We still have that fishing rod, that Gobble forgot in the pastebin.

>>905454
I mostly just prefer other stuff as a fairy type that get talked about less. Waifu stuff I know won't be in the quest.
>>
>>905454

Ignoring Gobble's verdict, I don't think Bella would be having any of that whatsoever. We don't want a bags-under-eyes permanently pin-missiled Gardevoir.
>>

No no I agree, personally I don't care about the waifu thing at all.

well, if you want an unconventional fairy, how about comfey? its solidly fast, has some bulk and ok special attack and an ability that gives healing moves +3 priority which also affects draining kiss for some reason

I'm down for keeping whatever we fish up, even another Magikarp. I have a feeling Herb could cook up some pretty good bait if he had the ingredients.
>>
>>905481
It's not like Gobbke or Mace bring two unique typing to the table. Normally I go for 12 unique types on my teams, but with Herb I'm a bit more concerned about how he catches his pokemon and a bit less about which he catches.
>>
>>905487
I just don't want overlap so Pokemon don't get outclassed. Last quest we quite a bit of overlap with 2 Water, 3 Dragon, and 2 Psychic by the end.
>>
>>905489
It's a tough situation.

I had a similar situation with an Arcanine and a Salazzle and a Haunter and Deciueye.

Ultimately, the ones that have the more utility usually win though.
>>
>>905491
Gobble helps it somewhat by giving special training and removing the 4 move slots, but I think it is easier to just avoid the problem in this case. Choosing favorites of stuff people like kinda sucks.
>>
>>905491
Completely unrelated, my Salazzle kicked so much ass
>>
>>905494
True.

Still a lot of favourites can be fun.

Feebas would be good, even if they're rarer than an honest politician.

Milotic is amazing, but also quite characterful for Herb.

I mean, he's already 'Totally-not-Ruby'.

>>

>>
>>905497
Looking at all the fish Pokemon there are so many I just kinda forget about. Finneon, Goldeen, Remoraid. Goldeen could be fun with the Horn v Fin fanatics, Octillary is a pretty funky design, and Finneon seems like it would also work well for contest.
>>
>>905502
They are referring to the Pokemon Special Manga version of Brandon from R/S/E/ORAS. He wants to do contest instead of gym battles even with Norman as his dad.
>>
>>905502
One of the protagonists from the Pokemon Adventures manga, specifically, the arc based off of Ruby and Sapphire.

>>905503
Feebas's whole thing is it's tied into contests, even it's original means of evolution before the Prism Scale was introduced.

Even if we don't get a Feebas, it'd be a good pokemon for Valerie.

Especially if no one knows it evolves into Milotic, which seemed to be the case in Adventures and is strongly implied by most of its pokedex entries beyond what amounts to old wives' tales.
>>
>>905505
Thank you

>>905509
I adore Milotic, I got one in Emerald on accident, I shit you not
>>
>>905505
I've read up to the second arc of Diamond and pearl and frankly, Ruby and Sapphire has been my favourite arc so far.

Ruby is a character you really have to grow to like as you learn about him and he grows, which is really well written.
>>
>>905511
I never got one in Sapphire, but I took extreme care on that route to go to the one place guaranteed to find Feebas when I Nuzlocked Omega Ruby.

That Milotic was on the team I beat the E4 on.

Shame it's such a pain to find Feebas in Moon, but I managed it after about half an hour farming the one fishing spot in Brooklet Hill.
>>
>>905509
Man, you know what though? I'm imagining a final team of Snorlax, Roserade, Hydreigon, Ribombee, and Milotic at the league or something similar, which is actually a pretty good team, and then throwing out an unevolved Roggenrola when the chips are down, and I don't know if the thought that we'd totally do it is awesome or hilarious or both.
>>
>>905567
Both, I'd say.

That line up is by no means set in stone though.

Still got to catch two and find the pre-evolution of another.
>>
>>905567
That's a solid team comp, if somewhat heavy on special attackers. A fire type would make for a good addition to our defensive core, since grass-fire-water does well against the vast majority of attack types, and a physical powerhouse would be a good addition.

Then again, optimal team composition has never been our plan for Herb, so we might end up with a team of six corsolas and take the league by storm.
>>
>>905586
I can't imagine that Gobble, Mace, and Bella won't be on his team at that point.

Herb seems like the kind of guy that would sooner devote an inordinate amount of time doing early-anime-pikachu-level intense training with Mace just to bring him up to par, then to just switch him out for a better fit. He's too sentimental to powergame it, I'd find it difficult to buy that he'd even be willing to catch more than enough for a full team.
>>
For a fairy type, why not Primarina?
>>
>>905613
Yeah, agreed.
>>
>>905628

>>905613
I that is what the votes for where he energy goes are. Using his evolution energy to give him a big boost.
>>
>>905669
Which I should add means we probably had some extra chance to dodge the Electroball in the gym. Speed wise it probably won't come into effect for awhile since Roggenrola is in the top 10 slowest Pokemon. I think honestly we should focus on dodging over speed since Moves determine who acts first.
>>
>>905370
>>Everyone cuddle up in a big naked people and pokemon pile under the towel and dry-ish clothes. It's the warmest option
>>
>>905670
Remember that in this battle framework speed affects a bunch of different things, not just turn order. I'd imagine that dodging was at least partially folded into speed, though we'll need gobble to clarify speed's effects on battle.
>>
>>905670
>>905770
Mace only had like a day's worth of training on it. It's probably almost entirely superficial at this point. Just the very basics.
>>
>>905773
Yeah. Regardless of what route we end up going as a trainer, or what our team ends up looking like eventually, we should do more training with our pokemon if we're ever going to get there.
>>
>>905770
Gobble has listed what speed does in the OP almost every thread this quest.
>>
>>905800
>Speed is important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first
>and other things
If you know for sure what is and isn't included in those "other things", I'd ask that you share.
>>
>>905806
Well one of them was how much shit you can do. Since when Vlad reached critical speed mass he was able to get 2 moves off in a round.

One idea I had for Mace much later is doing Sandstorm either at the start of a fight or mixed with a weaker move since he does have Sand Force.
>>
>>905807
>Combat mechanics are up in the air. Suggestions are welcome. We'll be trying some new things out so I appreciate your patience as we fine tune it.
The framework is changing up; we're not sure how much will carry over from the previous quest, although it's probably safe to assume that sufficiently outspeeding the opponent will still allow a second action.

Assuming that's still possible, sandstorm shenanigans for Mace would be quite viable, though we won't be able to fully capitalize on Mace's speed until the adjusted effects of speed have been hammered out.
>>
>>905817
Yeah, I have a feeling Evasion should be changed too given that Destiny could just negate careful plans with a single lucky roll. Would have to crunch numbers to see what the best way is though.
>>
>>905821
Eh. I feel like it should be fine if you just make it as if you were training to have double team active from the outset. That kind of training has always been an option, it was just way more difficult then training raw evasiveness ended up being.
>>
>>905860
That is a good point. By the time we were facing the E4 we had so many bonuses to training things the evasion came pretty quickly.
>>
Btw, what are we gonna do with Best Frying Pan?

Because we have it, we not only have caught or convinced almost every pokemon we have with it, we are absolute badasses anytime we have to fend off wild pokemon with it, and we used it to convince our first pokemon to come with us on our adventures (with cooking).

At this point, I honestly think we might as well name the damn thing and make it our symbol of power because its so reliably awesome.
>>
>>905920
Maybe name it after our Grandpa. Old, reliable, and always there for us. He seems to have also taught us a few things about cooking.

>>
>>905972
I just want to catch Hydriegon so we can release it outside. Hopefully Cutiefly will have talked some sense into it by the next time we show up. It'd be pretty fitting if by the next time we battle Jane, we've got a badge but returned it, caught a dragon but released it.
>>
>>905978
I figured we would just cook them up their fill of food, then offer to release them.

Also, I'm leery about returning the badge because it's not quite clear whether gym leaders are supposed to hold back in terms of skill. They obviously have to keep separate teams for different challenger levels, but we don't know whether they're supposed to go all out with what they have to work with.
>>
>>905978
Yeah, no. We aren't gonna force the Hydreigon to join us, but we are gonna ask if it wants to come with us and eat all our food with Gobble. I kinda hope the towns here are close by, or else we're doomed for cooking ingredients.
>>
>>905978
We aren't returning the badge, obviously Gym Leaders are suppose to hold back. This being a newer Gym the guy probably didn't have teams for a full variety of trainers.
>>
>>905992
Yeah, I'm expecting the gym leader to explain things to us rather than accept it back, but if it comes down to it I'm hoping we stick to our guns, whatever we try doing.

Do you have to be at a PC to release pokemon? Or is it a function of the poke ball? I'm imagining one option could be to set their ball out in front of Hydriegon, and allowing them to go back in or smash it.
>>
>>906000
Pretty sure it is a Pokeball thing. But also we haven't decided on returning it by any stretch.
>>
>>905992
Actually, I feel like I should say something that might elaborate on the issue with the gym leader. The specific move combination that he used was Helping Hand and electrified Self Destruct, which might have been fair game in a 3v3 double battle, but is straight up cheap and lame in a 2v2.

How would you even defend or plan around that without massive amounts of raw bulk? It's a full stop, low consequence OHKO move, that you can't even hope to counter or dodge, only endure, which you can't do if it's a 2v2. It's not a matter of holding back, just not being a dick.
>>
>>906005
If it were us in that position, we could have worry seeded Jolteon so everything on the field would go down. It would end in a draw, whatever that might entail.
>>
>>906005
I feel like you could maybe dodge away by running the fuck away, but that would take knowledge of it having a large AoE move or having a ground type not be soaked.

>>906007
Worry Seed is super niche and doesn't excuse a party foul.
>>
>>906005
I had imagined that due to the nature of the quest, that not only could the gym leader choose appropriate teams given the challenger level, but also appropriate moves and tactics.
>>
>>906007
The gym leader didn't even know that worry seed existed though, or understand what it did.
>>
>>906009
That is correct, but look at it like this.
New League
Gym Leader trying to have a family
He probably doesn't have a full ranch of Pokemon to use for weaker trainers. Just look at what we fought: Pachirisu, Emolga, and Heliolisk.
>>
>>906014
It can't be that hard to acquire weaker pokemon, can it? And I'd like to think the pokemon league has some minimum requirements for new gyms before they open.

I'll bet he'll talk to Hana about it when the storm dies down though.
>>
>>906008
My point is that your complaint can be boiled down to "it's too hard".

As far as I know, there is nothing illegal or untoward about that tactic, and there are myriad ways that someone properly prepared could have gotten around it (prot would have stopped it cold, for example).
>>
>>906014
Also managing a (new?) power plant that seems to have a lot of problems.
I bet he's stretched really thin and can't handle it all.

Not saying he's not a dick for BTFO Hana like that, but I get it.

>>906033
Protect is learned naturally by how many Pokemon? Helping Hand + Galvanized Self-Destruct is way too hard to pull on someone's FIRST GYM. Yes I get he wanted to get it over with because his kid started crying, but still better ways of doing it. The storm probably has him mega stressed.
>>
>>906039
But saying it's way too hard is a completely arbitrary judgment, and if prot isn't good enough, then consider that any pokemon with ability fuckery could have stolen or altered Jolteon's ability so that he would have wiped his side too. Hell, a Damp pokemon would have just shut it out entirely without any actions needed, or a fast pokemon could have made it flinch or be confused, or any number of other things could be done to counter it from a low level.
>>
>>906033
Not really. I mean, what basically happened was the equivalent of the gym leader deciding to have a pokemon use perish song. He can just decide to make you lose by sacrificing his own team, and he can functionally guarantee a win because of his other pokemon have Volt Absorb.
>>
>>906033
I think it's less that it's too hard, and more that it's very inconsistent. The strategies he used against us were far slower and had more disruptable moving pieces. Hana, who came in with the same number of badges, got hit with that tactic when he didn't want to keep up with testing her normally as he had been.

If it were a trainer vs trainer battle, or in a tournament, there'd be nothing wrong with using a powerful strategy. I might even want to see Graveler use a synergistic item or evolve.
>>
>>906052
What I'm getting at is that the manuver he did was perfectly counterable in various ways, so there's no basis to saying that it was inherently something he shouldn't have been allowed to do.

>>906053
This I think is the crux of the matter. People are angry at the implication that he was taking it easy on us, and then chose to go full force against Hana for arbitrary reasons. What he did wasn't strictly wrong, but it does leave questions as to whether Hana really got a fair shake.
>>
>>906084
I'm mad he did it to someone on their first gym. It is like expecting a high school Baseball player to hit a machine that is throwing at major league speeds.
>>
>>906052
And just to emphasize this, if his other pokemon did not Volt Absorb, then that tactic ceases to be competitive at all, and instead is just a 'fuck you, this is over' move that ends the battle in one turn by wiping out everyone on both sides.

In a straight 2v2, this tactic is as strong, as it is just plain cheap. Because It's not like it's too hard to deal with, but if you didn't already know about it, you can't fight against it. It can be pulled out in a single turn, and either wins the battle or brings it to a draw in the same turn, seemingly with no actually concern for the result beyond that it's finished.

It's one thing to do this if both sides have more pokemon in the wings, but doing this when the only pokemon in the battle are on the field is what makes it shitty.
>>
>>906084
You'd be lying if you claimed that you should be able to just see that coming and predict it though.
>>
>>906088
>>906097
We're just going to keep going back and forth on this.

It was a powerful and costly manuver that could have been brutally subverted in many situations if the challenger used a bit of thought and some clever application of utility moves.

>>906107
Presumably once you realized that it was a possibility (be it in the middle of battle or after the fact), you would go out of your way to head off or turn the tables on it. Perhaps it would work once, but then you'd develop your strategy, come back, and punish him if he attempted it again.
>>
>>906120
>could have been brutally subverted in many situations if the challenger used a bit of thought and some clever application of utility moves.

If you mean just happen to have a certain 5 Pokemon out of over 700 then sure.
>>
>>906120
Yeah, but such preventive strategies are a lot more than what you can expect of a beginning trainer.
>>
>>906124
I pointed out about half a dozen different tactics that could shut it down.

>>906131
That's part of learning to be a skilled trainer. Putting trainers to the test is literally what gym leaders are there to do.
>>
>>906120
>if the challenger used a bit of thought
This is where you're getting hung up though; this isn't something you can plan around without foresight. If you don't already know that he has this coming, you aren't going to specifically train to prevent it.

Are you saying that you should just automatically understand and expect your opponent to pull out specific gimmicky tactics and to have prepared for the exact ones that your opponents are going to use with no foreshadowing?

That's why I call it cheap, because once you use it, it's spent.
>>
>>906133
See >>906136
This guy is basically saying what I want to.
>>
>>906133
It's only a test if there was a reasonable chance of knowing about the moves before hand. I'm pretty sure that was the first time Hana or Herb saw helping hand or Explosion.

So while I agree it's not an OP move combo, it was unreasonable to expect either of these first time trainers to be able to handle it. I would say it was fair if the trainer we met earlier gave us a hint, but all we were informed of is the types the gym uses and the cannons the gym employs. It is then reasonable to assume the challenge in the gym is not these particular moves combos, but in reacting to a changing type and environment.

So I defy you and belief any new trainer could prepare for this.
>>
I think it was more of a thing were he could just choose to end it at any time.
Maybe part of his test is seeing how Hana handles it?
>>
>>906142

>>906139
It is something to consider a possibility whenever you are confronted with the circumstances where that might be an outcome. Being able to shift your tactics with the theoretical tactics of the opposition is a very useful skill to be cultivated, and forcing your opposition into the mind games of guessing which of multiple different possible strategies you're using is a viable method of battling.

Hana has learned of a particular technique that's quite powerful, and she's going to alter her strategy accordingly whenever it seems like a possibility in the future. Herb is likely to as well, and discerning whether a given opponent intends that strategy is part of being a good trainer.

Thus, while dickish to change up his difficulty like that, the manuver in itself isn't an illegitimate move for a gym leader, even for first-badge challengers.

>>906143
Pretty much.

Nobody's debating that he fully intended that to end the fight, or even that his changing up the difficulty was an inappropriate thing to do when he gave a similar trainer (Herb) easy mode.
>>
>>906187
Except that's just hokey nonsense to justify an out of nowhere back pocket explosion strategy at a gym, which is supposed to test a trainer's skill in some capacity. You can't just pretty up the wording and pretend like it changes the meaning.

Especially in this scenario, where you're suggesting that you should be able to adapt to this sudden tactic that immediately ends the fight, off the assumption that it's going to happen ahead of time, and to have prepared for it beforehand 'just in case'. That's ridiculous. You seem to be implying that going into every battle, you should always expect and prepare for cheap, all-in suicide tactics apropos of nothing, and that it's totally something everyone should just be able to see through and predict.

Please actually think about the implications of that argument for a moment, and try applying it in and situation outside this discussion. It falls apart immediately, especially if you try seeing it from an actual human perspective.
>>

Guys. Lets fucking think about why he did it. He heard his kid get hurt, the only member of his family that he really likes anymore from what we see. Any parent that is actively involved with their kid and wants to protect them will stop whatever they're doing to go take care of their child.

They are gym leaders.
Their job is to make sure our battling is up to snuff for a given tier of badge.
If they can instantly shut us down with any given tactic with appropriate level mons, then we are not skilled enough to deserve the badge.
Therefore, the tactic that was used was not inherently wrong.

I know. It's just disappointing to me that there's no way we'll get to experience what Val's going through first-hand. It's always so cute to everyone when girls start dating each other, but it's like, only me and one other guy who at least wants to see Polu as an option.

I liked that night where she was opening up about it and we didn't know what was going on. But we're only going to get to see it from the outside, rather than do so ourselves.

Kat was Bi, sure, but she started out pretty damn comfortable with that, and emotionally unsure. I'd like to see Herb as having less emotional baggage, but also less confident sexually.

I can dig that. Hopefully Keira can be our spiritual defense mechanism to Dark Kat dealing with all the psychic shit we had to.

considering the current state of technology, it could totally happen. The biggest hurdle would be making it neutrally buoyant, and would have to be calibrated whenever she loses or gains weight(with consideration for muscle vs fat gains).

Now we just need to win at a casino so we can fund this. While we're at it, lets make sure to buy rebreathers for Herb and the rest of our party. I want to explore that great blue hole in the north of the map
>>
>>907018
It's been done in real life, so in-setting I don't see it being impossible. Honestly, just pokeballs alone imply a level of technology pretty far beyond what we could imagine what that world might look like. Funding something custom is likely the biggest hurdle. In-character I don't think we even know Hana likes swimming though. And again, this is all predicated on the idea that Hana's prosthetics are designed to come off.
>>
>>907090
Science is basically really, really complicated magic

So yeah it's probably possible
>>
>>907090
Pokeballs might not be the best example due to the earlier ones working off mysticism.
>>
>>907090
>>907107
So why not just find a Jirachi and wish her limbs back?

I mean, if we're going with magic, we might as well really go for magic, you know?
>>
>>907114
Jirachi doesn't actually grant wishes, you watched the movie right?
>>
>>907114
If she had a wish to make, it'd be for the accident to have never happened/her parents back.
>>
>>907114
Why not make a wish that made every bad thing that ever happened never happened
>>
>>907115
No, and now I'm left wondering why it qualifies as Mythical in-universe if it's just a weird star-shaped thing with no power.

>>907121
That would be more of a Celebi thing, and would also be guaranteed to go horribly wrong.

>>907125
This would be guaranteed to go even more horribly wrong. Just regenerating some limbs is less likely to get you bitchslapped for violating fundamental cosmic principles.
>>
>>907172
jirachi is basically a living channel for some sort of lifestream/earth energy bullshit, usually it uses a periodic buildup of that energy to re-enervate the land, but said energy can be stolen or turned to other purposes such as creating/reviving some sort of tentacley groudon-cthulu beast that captures pokemon in goo tentacles and slowly absorbs their life energy.
>>
>>907172
Yeah. You could try wishing for a just universe, but you'd probably end up with a world where everybody is so shitty that they deserve the bad things that were going to happen to them anyways.

Honestly, you're better off wishing for the fantastic cosmic power that it would take to grant your wish yourself, or ask Dialga for a specific retcon. So basically, everything we opted out if last quest.

Reading the pastebin, I realized something: Keira needs a Rowlet. Partly because the whole line is awesome, but especially because as a Grass/Ghost type it's the closest she can get to a Pokemon version of herself.

Actually, any part-Ghost should be able to interact with her, or at least any where Ghost is the secondary type. Could let her interact with other Ghost-types.

A truely just world would honestly be horrifying to live in, if you think about it. Bad things only happen to bad people, good things happen to good people; in other words, compassion and mercy do not exist as virtues, because they'd be directly at odds with the nature of reality. Why would anybody feel sorry for anybody if they knew for a fact that they deserved what they got? How would any sort of individual perspective on reality survive the perfect, objective feedback of fortune? With such a responsive world around them, how could anyone form a view of the world different from someone else's?

You stub your toe? You deserved it. Every single time.

>>
>>907978
She's a cameo from emerald, if you didn't know
>>
>>907981
I did not. It raises some interesting questions about how many continuities the games are divided into. Interesting questions that will never be addressed.
>>
>>908037
Multiverse duh. Thank Zinia for ruining canon and being worst girl.
>>
>>908037
Based on what Zinnia said in ORAS, the original games and the remakes might be something like parallel universes to each other.

Pair that with how Anabelle came from Emerald into SM, and that suggests that Emerald and SM are different continuities in themselves. Perhaps that implies that Alola is actually a part of the ORAS continuity despite being a core game instead of a remake.

So, I'd speculate that there are two core continuities: the original games, and the remakes that started with frlg. Alola, despite being an "original" game, seems to exist in the remake continuity instead of the original, as evidenced by Anabelle and an offhand npc remark alluding to primal groudon and kyogre.

Beyond that, however, the rule ostensibly seems to hold true that the original games and the remakes constitute separate continuities.
>>
>>908094
So how does the anime fit in then? Ash-Greninja and hatted pikachus seem to imply some crossover. What are versions (like sun and moon) to each other? How is that different from the megas/no megas split? Are the different anime series supposed to be different universes? Does the anime even have a continuity? Where do the Manga fit in? Is my copy of sun and someone else's copy of sun different universes? What are the generations shorts?

All this and more to never receive a canon answer.

>>
>>908178
At least it's not Kingdom Hearts.
>>
>>908432
My only hope is that we can train the rest of out team up to par so that we don't have to resort to something like that.

So, what direction are we planning on taking our next training session in? What roles are we looking to fill on our team?
>>
>>908444
I think general stat training is still the way to go early on. Maybe see what we can do with dancing of Gobs, Bella and Mace can focus on their main stats.
>>
>>908444
Well, gobble could try to boost his dancing and general stats with maybe a focus on balk, Bella could use some general training as well with a possible focus on spa, and Mace needs general training as well, though we should cultivate his speed energy as well if we have the time.

>>908432
I was thinking that maybe Hydreigon could be balanced out by not giving a damn about battling for sport.

If we want to keep getting badges and beat trainers like Jane, we'll have to do it with our regular pokemon instead of the level 70-something dragon of darkness that came with the cutiefly.

And then in a heated match, cutiefly takes a heavy beating and hydreigon comes out pissed and ready to lay down the law.
>>
>>908624
We aren't rolling for Hydreigon's attacks, we are rolling so they don't seriously injury the other Pokemon.
>>
>>908624
I feel like Mace or Bella should learn set up, since we're kinda lacking on that front. Also, If we get Hydreigon, I honestly feel like we won't actually be able to work with it until we're better as a trainer and have more experience, which will probably be like 5-6 gyms from now.
>>
>>908624
>>908626
I don't want Hydreigon, but the idea of busting him out like Ash's Charizard when shit gets real and seeing Jane lose all hope sounds tempting.
>>
>>908702
That is my main thing about it too. Also I think they will be a package deal if we want Cutiefly.
>>
>>908711
I hope we bring Keira back to them and find out their story.
>>
>>908720
>we bring Keira to meet them
>she freaks the fuck out because it's an omen of destruction to encounter one or something
Let's do it.
>>
>>908702
But Ash's Charizard was kind of shit. I'd much prefer that we actually try to make a balanced team that works well together. Relying on over leveled pokemon or having one that won't actually listen to us seems kind of tasteless.
>>
>>908738
It'd be an interesting plotline though. As far as I can recall, Kat never really had any pokemon that didn't listen to her, so this would be an experience for the gentle and kindly Herb.
>>
>>908738
Goddamn, it's a Hydreigon dude

It's worth it
>>
>>908738
We aren't actually going to rely on them if we catch em.

>>908742
Oberon and Levi kinda didn't, but we already had full teams when we had them.
>>
>>908742
If we do we should try and train with Polu some more since his Spiritomb shows the same problem.
>>
>>908742
Some didn't at first, but that problem went away fast because Kat tried hard to have a good relationship with all her pokemon.
>>
>>908748
Forgot about Levi, but even that went away with just a few sessions of bonding.
>>
>>908711
I've actually been thinking that maybe we've been putting too much stock in their relationship. It's possible that cutiefly was keeping hydreigon fed in exchange for shelter. They may not care so much about each other once the big guy's free.
>>
>>908855
That's a good point. We have no idea what their dynamic is. Hydreigon is defensive about it, but so is a noble lord about his serfs.
>>
So I've done some more thinking and had an idea for a pokemon that would perfectly suit Herb. Pyukumuku.

What says nice guy more than a pokemon that literally can't attack? Plus it's pokedex entries talk about how it won't move, even to eat. I can imagine Herb taking pity on such a cute, starving little organs bunny.

Alternatively, I can see a Pyuku deciding that Herb's soft nest if hair is the perfect spot to call home and Herb just... not having the heart to throw it away.
