You look at the face of your killer. Being stabbed is kind of a drag. But more than that, imagine getting killed by this fuck. Seriously, you don't even know the little kids name. Yet here he is, a teenaged boy sticking a god damn sword through your god damn chest.

You cough, spurting blood into his blue eyes. Which causes you to chuckle in a raspy way as the kid panics and wipes his eyes.

Your last words were;

You reach out to the panicking boy with two trembling hands, grabbing his head like you're about to cruch it. but it is a gentle grasp and you force him to look dead into your eyes, you always knew what your parting words would be -

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die."

There is a pause. You're not dead yet.Fuck it.

"DEUS VULT" You roar and try to headbutt him. He retracts his sword and you bleed out rather quickly. About godamn time.

Least he could have done was kill you instantly rather than that awkwardness.

You realize you're still thinking as you stare at the dingy street.
Something taps your head and the world fades away.

Besides being a purveyor of films you; Are you a ghost or something?

You always had a thing. Despite not technically being baptised or christened or whatever. You were always massively into the old Crusaders. King Richard, quest for Jerusalem, the passion those men had for God.

You wish you could get that feeling.
You really hope that you're going to heaven and not hell.
Maybe you'll go to some kind of christian valhalla and have to fight goths until the rapture.

Orrrrrr maybe you'll wake up with no clothes in a backalley.

It is pitch black, you don't feel the cold.

You hear an old woman's voice and instinctively you;

"Hello? It's not another one of you drunkards is it?" The old voice asks as you see candlelight.

You stand shivering as your cover your chest and crotch. Looking at the old lady with what you hope is an appropriate level of shame at your indecent state. You try to mumble out an apology to the small lady.

She walks up to you and opens her eyes, she looks at you knowingly. "Well, if I weren't right all the time I'd be happier. Another one."

"I-I'll get out of your alley." You say bowing slightly as you begin to scamper away, but the ladie grips your wrist in what feels like a vice.

"Not without a robe you're not. Them durnkards would try it with ya. You can sleep on the floor tonight in one of my old robes." She decides dragging you into her home despite you having height, weight, chest, leg and ass on this little midget.

"I will pay you back!" You loudly vow, waking up a dog from a neighbouring house.

The sliding paper door is opened and a grumpy bald man is ready to create a ruckus until he sees your nudity and the glare of your captor.

He promptly retreats into the house while you blush furiously and stammer to yourself. The sliding paper door makes you realize the architecture here is not like you are accustomed to.

This gives you pause for contemplation, as you try to put your finger on it.

But as you walk across some kind of mat, past some kind of ankle height table you have four robes laid out in front of you as your midget host yawns and totters off to another room.

She is so casual about this; is it common for naked people to wander into her alley?

Looks like you have your choice fo colours.

You are just fumbling with the sash, ribbon, belt. You feel really pretty for some reason.

You toss your hair, trying to get it out of your face while you examine your reflection in a weird metal bowl thing.

It just now occurs to you that there isn't much furniture here; this old lady might be giving you the clothes off her back.

You're then interrupted by a blanket, hitting you in the head with enough force to knock you on your pretty feeling ass.

"You went red huh? Well then. I'm calling you Sukāretto Sutorenjā. How'd you like it?" She asks standing in this room's doorway with all the swagger and intimidation factor of a mob boss.

"It's alright." You say trying to properly fold everything. You just aren't ready to turn in yet. "Thank you for helping me. God bless." You say and she looks at you funny.

"Ain't no gods here. I'll introduce you to who you need to know. Tomorrow." She says.

"God is everywhere..." You murmur somewhat huffy.

It is only at this point you realize something, why did you need a name. Surely you had one before waking up behind this building. Surely you would recognize this place.

The possibilities of why you remember nothing beyond vague blurs begins to sink in. All you have in your memory is God and some words said by people with faces you can't quite place.

Like smoke running through your fingers everything before waking up seems to slip away the harder you try to grasp it.

Before retiring for the night you kneel by your "bed" but can't help but feel like your missing or forgetting something. It's odd, like there's a hole in your chest. But you suppose maybe thta's what all people in your situation would feel; strange place, strange people, no name, no clothes. It's been a weird day.

But as you lie down after your introspective kneel you think as hard as you can on the last thing you remember.

A sword, right through your chest. You say something about tears in the rain that seems very familiar.

Then two words that keep your warm through the night; despite the holes in your worn threadbare mattress; "Deus Vult" you mutter under your breath as you drift off to sleep.

In your dreams you see yourself standing in armour, surrounded by the fallen; enemies in cloth and allies in plate both have left mortal coil.

There you stand wielding a brain and blood stained-

Awakened by the shout of some young boy.

"Yo. Get your ass up so we can go on the tour.. He says with a finger in his ear, "Old Betty said you'd be clueless and to show you where everything is." He says with a frown.

You straighten up, slightly grumpy as always in the morning. You raise your arms above your head and hear a satisfying collection of pops and clicks as the stiffness in your back lessens dramatically.

The boy doesn't even try to hide his staring at your chest. "You know that lewd thoughts will make your nose bleed."

He purses his lips at that as you stand up, "really? Never did it before...." He says completely blindsided by your punch.

He holds his now bleeding nose with curses, "See?" You say angelically while the boy whines.

"That was uncalled for." He pouts as you straighten up your hair on the way to the door.

"Now where is our first stop?" You ask sweetly, forgiving the young boy for losing himself to the evils of youth. God would be so proud were it not a sin.

"Welcome to Sakahone. Means Reverse bone for some reason." He begins as you walk out into the street.

By street you mean, dusty line that is surrounded by these weird paper houses. The only sign of technology is old style lanterns hanging from wooden poles here and there.

They're the old style too, just candles in them. Where the hell are you?

"Now your name is Sukāretto Sutorenjā right?" He asks.

"That is what the lady called me." You confirm, "Feels weird on my tongue."

"Oh yeah, you're definently a foreigner. Well, I'm Inpu Sakahone. Most of us take the town for our last name." he mentions.

He offers his hand to shake as you walk in step. You take it politely yet firmly, noticing the young man wince a little at your grip. He begins subtly shaking it as you enjoy the fresh blue sky and the song of an unseen bird.

"Over there's the bar. Some mean bandits moved in a while ago and since then it's not been safe to go near there." He points to a wooden building build against a hill, it is rather ramshackle, outside on the ground lies a bleeding or dead man.

A bruiser sees the young kid pointing and you staring, by his side is a strange sword.

"And your town just lets this stand?" You ask increduosly, "Where are you plice officers, your guards?"

He smirks at you and draws his knife, "This is the only law here Suka. Get strong enough to take or be weak enough to die." He shrugs, "We're trash to the cityfolk. If a bandit moves in to one of our towns? Who cares, less eyesores in their view." He spins the knife around nimbly, looking enraged for a moment before he puts on his carefree expression again, "Anway, next stop!" He declares before you can question his grievances.

"So here's the market." Inpu says, pointing at a few of the buildings. Some have some stalls outside, "Now you'll probably want to eat at some point; even if you're not hungry it's one of the few things you can enjoy here."

"Few implies there are some others." You note.

"Well we can get drunk. We can also fuc-" You raise your fist and he throws up his hands for mercy, "I'm sorry please don't hit me!"

You lower your fist cautiously and he continues on a much more appropriate path, "We can still excercise, enjoy music, lots of people just sleep." He shrugs.

"And what do you do?" You ask with an eyebrow raised.

"I explore. I know the surrounding area better than most, throw in a bit of hunting and I make enough money to eat every couple of days." He grins in pride. Though the diligence of a hunter is a great thing. "If I cooked I wouldn't even need to seel my catches."

you notice that Inpu is a man of great emotional upheaval. He can switch moods more than you change clothes.

"So you're probably going to want to eat right?" Inpu says as you're walking towards the outskirts of the town.

"Probably, yes." You reply suspiciously,

"Promise not to be angry. But if you need cash..." He faces a building that looks rather... risque and you are totally flabbergasted for a second.

"It isn't a brothel." He says backing out of fist range. "Technically it's a restraunt. You can earn some basic income there." He sighs, "But if you want enough to eat..."

Your eyes must be filled with the nine circles of hell, because all the colour drains form Inpu's face and his eyes widen. "Look Sukāretto, I can tell you're not the type to do that."

"I AM PURE IN THE FACE OF GOD." You... well pant at him. you're starting to see red.

"Right, but this is your best shot at an income." He begs you, "I'm not telling you to sell yourself just serve some sake. Anything else beyond that is extra money and your business."

You lift him up by the the scruff of his rags, only now noticing that like everyone else and yourself he is barefoot.

"Inpu here was trying to convince me to work in the brothel." You say with a levity you really don't feel right now.

The "elder" just shrugs and makes a weird flappy hand gesture, "Well I guess giving him one slap or punch isn't too ridiculous then." He adresses the kid in your grasp who looks heartbroken that the elder hasn't stepped in, "Kumo got her claws into you eh Inpa? She promise you a freebie if you brought her a new girl?"

"Well if you don't want to work for Kumo, I got an idea. Could take up my old job; be elder assistant for me." "So what are you offering here? What's the deal?" You ask with hands on hips. You're kind of finding it hard to take yourself seriously in a robe thing.

"Well, you'd mostly be in charge of mediating disputes in the area. Keeping things going, kind of like how I did with you and Inpa there. Elders are the only law in this place." He says with a sad sigh.

"Yes, but why me?"

"Well, you're a new soul. You're good looking but didn't immediately tart yourself out - listened to me when I asked you not to beat the shit out of Inpa. You seem a good sort and I'd like you to help keeping everything ship shape." He says.

You're taken aback by how honest he is, but he starts walking past you to go check on Inpa. "Look, meet me at the elder's house in an hour or so. Think it over, but pretty much - your tough enough to do some real good and there's barely any paperwork."

He tosses the teenager over his shoulder and begins heading towards the inner parts of the market, a couple of gossiping crafters part for him in respect.

Left with nothing to do you end up lost in thought, your feet carrying you to your next destination of their own accord.

You think about the offer and what it could mean. You might be able to help old Betty around the house, become respected and help others.

God would surely approve, even if this isn't heaven - helping your neighbours and doing unto others has to still be good right?

If you manage to scrimp and save, you might even be able to get the materials together and build a small little shrine. You know how to hammer some nails after all, someday it might be a church. After all, if you're dead doesn't that mean you have all the time in the world?

Looking around you realize you're on a small hill with no idea where it is relative to the street and markets you've seen.

It's peaceful, one might even go so far as tranquil. The only signs of life being an old ragged tent and a remarkably well maintained bonsai tree planted in a small circle of dirt.

You walk across the short grass to the very peak of the hill, there you take a deep breath and smile as you kneel before the small tree.

It has been expertly trimmed into the character for life. It must have taken an unnaturally steady hand hand and reflexes faster than you could concieve; but it's a nice enough place for you to stop and rest.

There's a spot of brown that was probably once red on the leaves, making you wonder if the artist cut himself while working.

It is that small disquiet in your mind that makes you realize that the tent nearby has three long gashes in it, like someone was fighting nearby.

You go over to the tent and find that at least one of those rents in the fabric hit home. A pool of old blood has long since congealed.

Sticking your head in the tent you can see that the victim of whatever attack happened, managed to survive the first onslaught and fled into the forest at the other side of the hill.

Leaving drops of blood every few feet

You look around for unseen assailants, instincts that you never knew you posessed advising you to get the fuck back to town.

You back off scanning the horizon and retrace your steps. A chill goes down your spine at every noise, the wind seems to bite through your robe with a startling ease.

But.

No attack comes.

You make it back to the main street that leads to the market and the bandit's bar. Honestly despite being so lost in thought earlier it's quite simple to find your way to the camp should you ever feel brave enough to go back.

But for now you've returned to your new home as nightfall is imminent, but for now you need to decide where your destination is.

I have an early day in work tomorrow so going to bed.

For an idea with no prep this has been a lot of fun.

See you guys on this thread tomorrow night hopefully.

You head in and talk to Hidoi, finding him face down on a desk. Next to him sits a substantial pile of paperwork all immaculately filled out and stacked.

A calligraphy pen rests next to it's inkwell, so close to it's nest yet so far. It's kind of like a metaphor to the man; he's so laid back and casual spoken - yet you can see him striving to be the official leader this place needs.

He's close, yet far.

He looks so peaceful sleeping on the uncomfortable desk and when he isn't frowning or butting in on your teenager beating he's quite dashing.

You move closer and lay your hand on Hidoi's shoulder. Coughing politely.

He doesn't even stir so you give him a polite shake. Then a firm shake. Then a hard push.

It's when you're questioning ramming his head into the desk that he finally opens his green grey eyes. It takes a moment for them to come into focus and another moment for them to recognise you.

"Hey Sukāretto. Ugh, guess I nodded off." He looks a little disapointed in himself but the look of embarresment on his face makes you smile.

"You know there are beds for that right?" You ask,

"Yeah, yeah. Feel like I need a pillow for this desk with how often I fall asleep on it recently. But that's not why you came here is it?" He says with a chuckle that quickly becomes a yawn.

"Your sleeping habits were not the attraction for me, no." You quip as he covers his open mouth with a hand.

"So what d'ya think? Not a bad gig is it?" He goads,

I guess about how many times we have to patrol and if there's any places or people that we should look out for, i.e. gangbosses

"A few questions."

"Sure." He says seeming to wake up as he twists his back to an audible pop and click.

"How often would I be expected to patrol?" You ask.

"Just be around for most of the day, make sure people know your face. Help with anything that is brought to you - once I tell people what you're doing people will start talking to you."

"Anywhere to avoid?"

"Well....." He hesitates looking for a pack of cigarettes and looking defeated at the empty one on his desk.

"Be straight with me." You urge.

"Officially, since the old man went and got cut up by those bandits I can't tell you to get in there way or check out the bar." He says rather unenthusiastically.

"Officially?"

"Do what your gut says. You're justice for this place and I reckon you're the toughest of us outside Old Betty; so you do right by you." He advises stroking his goatee sagely.

"Well if I'm going to punch rude people and aholes. Might as well get paid." You say with a rather unpious smile.

"A better reason than most could hope. Welcome aboard." He says offering a handshake which you clasp firmly. You notice him disguising a wince as you shake.

It's not until you enter and hear the homeowner snoring you realize he called her the strongest in town.

Odd.

But regardless of everything, your first day in the afterlife and you are now employed. You can begin paying back Betty, look into a place for yourself and begin building an afterlife for yourself.

With that thought you clasp your hands and kneel beside your blankets and thank God for your good fortune.

I mean you already died, it's only uphill from here right?

With that we finish the totally unplanned improv one shot that may be a quest one day.

With Starborn and Cabin I'll only really run this when I get the urge.

But thoughts, feedback, death threats and crusader hentai can be sent to me via discord, twatter or in this thread.

Remember to worship the one true God:
