You´ve been waiting your whole life for this! After many years of training under the old Dungeon Master, you´re finally ready to build a dungeon fit for a Boss Monster!- Or you would, if you had an assignment. You remember your master telling you something along the lines of "you can´t go around building dungeons wherever you please! you need to-" ... and that´s where you dozed off. Dammit, who would´ve thought paying attention in class was important.

Not long ago, one of those "Chosen Ones" that are so common picked the dungeons of the world clear, like it happens every 5 years or so. Of course, he ended up killing the self-entitled "Dark Lord", like they always do, and demolishing his castle. Perhaps some new BBEG-wannabe needs a new castle- or better yet, a whole set of dungeons! You should get to work, probably.
What do you do?
>[] Go look for one of those edgy overlord wannabes. They are everywhere these days, it shouldn´t be hard.
>[] Try to look for a more experienced client. You make QUALITY dungeons, dammit! You can´t work for everyone- althrought, it IS your first time...
>[] Screw the "building for someone else" thing, you´ll build your OWN dungeon for yourself!

>[] Make our own dungeon!
You decide that you´re tired of seeing hundreds of wannabe dark lords. You also decide to change your artstyle to something more easily drawn, and decide you look cuter like this. And more colorful.

Since you´re going to make your own dungeon, you´ll need to get the supplies. You already have your trusty steel shovel, enchanted of course, so you won´t have to worry about it breaking anytime soon, but you should prepare the necessary things- like the ominous background music! you´ll have to hire someone for that later though.
Now, where should we build our dungeon?
>[] A natural cave (chance of natural monsters)
>[] Dig it entirely by yourself! (less problematic, more tiring. You´ll have to bring your own monsters)
>[] Aboveground (A building. Will be more noticeable to adventurers, which might end up resulting in more loot! and danger)
And in which land?
>[] The North: Frost-Aligned monsters roam here. Great beasts abound, and the caves hold some intelligent races you might convince to join you
>[]The East: Strange monsters lurk these lands. Great fiery volcanoes and Fire-Aligned critters are commonplace here.
>[]The South: The underground of this land boasts massive lakes, some even being entire underground seas! You might be able to find ruins of ancient dungeons here to salvage, and Spirit-type Undead

>The South
>Aboveground
You decide that you like the idea of building a obnoxious water-based dungeon to get those pesky adventurers stuck for days. You can already imagine their faces of absolute boredom and despair as they change the water level... ehehehehehe.
Now, now, let´s not get ahead of ourselves here. You still have to build the thing! You´ve decided to do so aboveground. Of course, you have to get there first, so you store your belongings in your magical backpack (how convenient, that nobody has to draw your shovel now!) and start to run. Thankfully, your years of moving dirt around at the command of a paranoid old man have made you very fit, and- okay, you used the old Dungeon Master´s teleporters and it was just a 10-minute run from there, but you find a great lake, far enough from any village to not be bothered while building, but close enough that adventurers can find it eventually if you give them some... "tips" so to speak.
You start to work on building the entrance! What kind of entrance do you want? This is pretty important, think carefuly
>[] A water-based entrance, like a waterfall that opens up.
>[] A imposing stone door, taunting adventurers with its inmobility.
>[] Annoying Puzzle- this means less adventurers will get inside, but they´ll probably be stronger and have better loot. Be careful, however, because they will have a easier time with the dungeon if you dont step up the work inside!

>[]Annoying Puzzle!
You decide to make an annoyingly difficult-to-enter door, because screw starting easy-to-kill n00b adventurers, you playing with the big boys now!

You doubt between a complicated alchemical equation or... actually, you´ll just make it so someone has to shoot an arrow at the door in a specific spot at a specific time of the day. That way, you´ll know when someone might enter the dungeon! So much easier to plan that way.
With the entrance finally built, you decide to work on the first few rooms of your first dungeon!
What will we build?
>[] Raising water-level puzzles (no enemies, frustrating for adventurers)
>[] A few tricky rooms to fight enemies in, that might be advantageous to monsters you can recruit here.
>[] Other: Write-in?

You are finished with puzzles for now. After all, puzzles dont kill adventurers, and no dead adventurers means no sweet loot to sell or equip your monsters with to obtain MORE loot!

You stop yourself from continuing building dungeons in the wind, and continue building your dungeon in the lake. You decide you need to obtain some monsters to guard the place. After all, a dungeon with no monsters doesnt deserve to be called a dungeon! You go over the usuals, creating a few slimes from simple alchemical formulae every Dungeon Master worth their salt know.
Aw, look at the cute little things. They´re very weak though. Perhaps you should try creating something more powerful?

You decide to make a bigger, meaner slime monster! Althrought you do not have the means to make a clear one yet (you´ll save that for later), you feel pretty confident in your abilities to make a... a...

A Slime Dragon! It´s... pretty heavy. And not as cute as the little ones, but what it lacks in cuteness it makes up with in RAW POWER- Okay, it´s still a slime monster, so it´s not that powerful... but it might give a stronger adventurer some pause. You´ll just have to make some more! You... wont lift them up though.

Now that your dungeon seems more populated, you notice something is missing still... you have enemies, annoying water puzzles (still working on those...), but you lack... Ah yes, music! Perhaps you should try to conjure one of those ghost bands, they´ll really help set the mood for the boss monster you ought to make next!
>[] Conjure a ghost orchesta to play some truly ghastly music

After much debate, disco music and volunteer mermaid dj´s, you decide to go safe and classical and summon a skeleton band! You tell the mermaid dj that you´ll need her services later, though. Perhaps at a later dungeon?.
You convince the skeletons to play for you, telling them this is their big chance in unlife, that they´ll play for the most dashing of rouges as they fail to complete the dungeon, and their music will be the last thing they hear before going to the afterlife. They´ll be famous! Every undead girl will want to jump their bones!.
The skeletons did not need much convincing really. They are down for it.
Now, you get back to work finishing that cart-thing-plus-jumping puzzle, being sure to maximize the annoying-ness of the jumping puzzle to the best of your abilities, and decide to get to work on the boss room (and the boss monster).
Now, what will the boss of this, our first dungeon be?.

You opt to summon something of a cross between your options. First, you fill a pool in the middle of the room with water, making sure there are no little nooks that could be targeted by some conceptual "hookshot" of any kind. Next, you begin uttering the words of an acient ritual of unspeakable evil...
" ´Entai Pargon Pargon- how´d this go again?"
Well, you try, but you botch it up somewhat. You end up with a tentacled lady in your pool, which is pretty decent, all things considered. Next, you decide to adorn the room somewhat, and write something on the walls... hmm... Perhaps you´ll write something silly, like "Friendship", to spite the guy who actually tries traslating draconic in the middle of a fight with a tentacle abomination.
"uh, dungeon lady?" Said abomination says. "This place is nice and all, but who are you? what´s your name? If i´m going to be helping you out here, i ought to know at least that!"

"Danger: An adventurer has entered the dungeon!" The sentry slimes... regurgitate? How do they speak again? No matter, you´re really glad you told them to stand guard now, even if you weren´t expecting to have visits so soon! You´ve barely finished building the core parts, much less POLISHING it! You still have to add the cobwebs, cracks in the walls and other atmospheric little details.

But there´s no time to do that, your dungeon has recieved it´s very first adventurer, and your monsters are getting ready to fight. Perhaps you should...

You decide to let the adventurer continue through the dungeon. After all, that´s what they´re for! Adventurers, that is. They are usually just rejects of society who take up monster-slaying as a means to get something to eat. Who in their right mind would go to perfectly fine dungeons to try and wreck them? They truly are a despicable bunch.

This adventurer in particular seems to be carrying a deformed iron sword, probably dug out of a blacksmith´s house after he commited honorable number puzzle suicide seeing his horrible work. His clothing doesnt even look GOOD, and... you could spend all day on this. You don´t really know how adventurers manage to make such shitty desing work at all.

The adventurer seems to struggle a bit against the normal slimes, further proving your theory that he is, in the technical speak of Dungeon Masters, a "total n00b". How did he even manage to get through the door?. His fight against the Slime Dragon is pretty much guaranteed to get him killed, and he doesnt even have very good loot on him! What a waste.
Perhaps you should...
>[] Talk with him, see if you can get him to try raiding some other guy´s dungeon. Perhaps you´ll even get some of the loot there if you can convince him.
>[] Subtly "help" him so he can at least get a moral victory. Looking at this loser is just sad.

You quickly check your treasure room to find that you have, sadly, ran out of fucks to give about nooby adventurers, so you let the Slime Dragon have his way with the poor guy.

Okay, you stop the cute little thing from devouring the adventurer and dissolving him painfully in his acidic fluids, but that´s only to retrieve his shitty equipment to smelt down once you get a forge going somewhere. The adventurer looks at you like if you were his saviour (which you kind of are, even if it´s for profit), as if he´s expecting you to say something...

The hell´s he looking at? Is it because he´s nak- Okay, out he goes. We ain´t having none of that shit here today. You decide to kick him out of the door, and tell him he´s free to come back when he´s not so weak.

Now that you´ve seen that your dungeon works, you get to polishing it. It´s the little details that count, you explain to your skeleton band, such as the cobwebs and miscolored tiles that give the impression they are a trap but are not, and cause a lot of paranoia. Just like long nondescript hallways where music stops playing!.

Your dungeon is more or less finished, at least, the first level of it. Now, you /could/...
>[] Continue building, either upwards or down into the lake and the earth. Additional levels means that the dungeon will be safer, harder and stronger, but the adventurers that dont get past the first level obviously wont have a chance to go further, so those extra levels might be unproductive.
>[] Build a new dungeon somewhere else, it ought to attract different types of adventurers, and when you come back to this one, your tentacular assistant will have collected a fair ammount of loot. Maybe.
>[] Go visit the nearby village, maybe hire adventurers to go to your dungeon. Hired adventurers will be stronger and have better loot than random ones, but if they complete the dungeon, you´ll have to pay them. For destroying your work.
>[] Other: Write-in?

Make it so that when the party finishes the dungeon, the walls start shaking, thus giving an impression that it will collapse.

Then create a groundwork for a teleporter to the nearby village, hire a contractor to make it.

Also build a respawn point for the tentacle lady. Or facilities or something.

Teleporters are sadly not your specialty, you might have to seek out other experts (read:npcs) to get some features on your dungeons.
Boss Monster respawning is built-in in your dungeons, so you dont have to worry about that (unless it IS the final boss of the Dungeon, because really powerful monsters do not respawn naturally).

You decide you aren´t quite finished with this water dungeon yet, and decide to make a second floor! You also shoddily map out the upper floor, and dig downwards. Time to make your dungeon grow!.
Now, there are a few options you could take here...
Dungeon Theme
The theme of your dungeon. So far it´s been quite generic, but that´s to be expected of your first dungeon floor! Now that you´ve decided to pour more effort into it, your choices are:
>[] Temple : Usually has a specific required item, a boss-gate key and several minor keys scattered in chests. Watch out for green-wearing heroes!. This theme gives you a free, respawning Temple Item, but adventurers will get it too!.
>[] Industrial: Ah, the joys of machinery. In this case, steam-powered or hydraulic machinery! Smash your enemies with contraptions, or create annoying puzzles dealing with artificial water currents. Bonus to machinery such as minion-spawning artifacts and other gadgets.
>[] Natural: Makes your dungeon look more "natural", meaning more beastly enemies and a more cave-y look. It´ll make adventurers less wary of artificial traps, but only the first 2 or 3 times.
>[] Other- Write in?

90's shooter sewer level aesthetics. So I guess

Temple, it shall be infested with skeletons.

It would fit well with the whole slimes/tentacles stuff that's going on.

Religious, with a cult leader at the bottom

Temple
After few floors it should slowly transform into sci-fi area with fuckstrong AI boss
>>
>>106895
Agree with this. We don't want too stark of a theme change, I would be kinda jarring.
>>
We have a tie right now between Natural and Temple, we could go for a in-between of them if you guys want to.
>>
>>106949
Sounds good, maybe the start area with the slimes could be natural caves, then it turns into a temple for the tentacle lady part?
>>
>>106895
hmm I'd like some industrial with it too... bootleg biotech maybe?

Digging downwards, you find what looks to be a huge natural cave system, filled with ruins. You were wondering when you would find one of these, they are really common in these lands, but oh well. You can probably use it to your advantage.

The uppermost part of the cave is completely natural, lacking any ruins or signs of man/woman/eldritch meddling, and has a natural population of slimes! How convenient.

The lower part is what´s left of an ancient, ruined temple to some old god of something or other, you´re not really sure, but it probably had many tentacles. You decide you should get to...
>[] Renovating the temple and improving the cave, using the existing layout with some alterations
>[] Demolish the temples and use the materials to build your own. This... might not be wise.
>[] Loot the temple ruins and seal them off, build your own temple somewhere deeper down. You don´t want no trouble with those elder gods.

You decide that you like the look of the place, but that it needs to be fixed juuuust a little bit. So, of course, you raise a small group of undead minions to help you renovate the temple. Who knows? Maybe those old gods will like it. Plus, it´ll get the smell out of this place. Unless it´s the water, in which case... eh, you´ll leave it, it´ll probably annoy the adventurers more than it annoys you, and your minions don´t have noses.
You get to work renovating the temple, and time flies by as you and the skeletons work hard. You are actually enjoying this "hard work" thing a lot more than just standing back and letting minions do the dungeon building, which is what your master did. He always said that a good Dungeon Builder never dirties his hands, but what did that old bastard know? His dungeons were easily beaten by a group of heroes, and so were HIS master´s. You hope this is not a tradition you´ll continue, honestly.

After finishing cleaning the temple and repairing some of the traps and walkways (the other parts of it are /properly/ damaged, like a ruined temple should be. Very aesthetic), you decide that these skeletons have earned a rest, and place them at the temple to guard it. Perhaps you´ll have to make a boss for this place.

Or not, apparently, as the elder gods see fit to grant you with a new minion for fixing their temple up! Who knew ancient unspeakable evils could be so nice? You now have a Shoggoth guarding your dungeon, which a LOT of Dungeon Builders would kill to have. Perhaps you should take this into account, because they might come for you later after finding out you´re working on your own.

Next, you start working on the caves. The natural slime population there is not very helpful building anything, but that´s just as well, because you start redesigning the layout of the cave with your trusty shovel (and some earth magic, let´s not kid ourselves), ending up with a nice spiralling pattern fit for a gauntlet of minor enemies and some mid-bosses to fight in. Of course, you´ll have to get the latter ones, but the slimes prove particularly helpful in this by... Fusing together to form a bigger slime. You weren´t aware they could do that.

Having mostly finished the barebones part of it, you and the skeletons sit down in the temple to have a nice meal- well, you have a nice meal, they don´t have a digestive system so they just kinda stare at you while you eat, but it´s all very nice anyways. After all this, you decide it´d be best to take a nap...

While you sleep, something stirs deeper in the flooded temples...

And that´s the end of the thread today folks! We´ll continue on Thursday, probably at the same hours!
See you guys then!

>tfw you think you have a great idea and then find out someone is already doing it

I'm excited to see where this goes, but I'm afraid I might have to retool my idea a little bit to avoid having two of the same quest. I think if I tried to do something too close it would at best dilute the playerbase, and at worst kill one (or both) of the quests.

Plus I'm no good at art, so this one would definitely win.

Th-thanks anon. I'll try to be strong for you.

I was thinking I'd take more of a deliberately evil overlord approach anyway. There was a quest several months ago back when there was no /qst/ called Dungeon King that was kind of like this. One of the things that I liked about it was resource and unit management - made it feel like almost a mini strategy game.

The players also chose golems as the minions, which I found super interesting. Modular unit building seems like it would be pretty fun to explore.
>>

The "Obviously evil Overlord" thing was an option in like the first post of the quest, but anons decided to fuck following edgy overlords and become their own máster. Which I like, since it allows for more interesting things.

Running this quest is very fun, but drawing takes more time than drawing even with the simplified drawing style, so that's kinda why drawings go a bit more "meh" as threads go on if anybody was wondering.

I'm toying with múltiple new layouts for dungeons and floors, and new adventurers/NPCs, so look forward to that!

Reminder this quest continues today at 17:00 GMT+1 folks! Looking forward to it, but might need a new thread soon at this trate!
