As the tripwire trap was activated, you expected to hear the metallic ping of grenade's pin coming free, or the roaring boom of an explosive charge going off. as it would turn out however, things were much worse.

The wire broke with a small twang, all noise in your unit died down as everybody recognised the noise. The silence lasted for a couple of seconds as everyone began to listen out for any hint at the trap's workings.

"What the hell was that?" Gilmore asked calmly, making sure not to panic.

"It might have been nothing, traps are meant to be lethal." Guzman spoke up as you began to slowly make your way forwards.

"Or it was meant to trigger an alarm. We should be more careful." You replied as you made your way forward with your MG-34 raised. The rest of the unit followed behind you.

The rest of your trek through the corridor was made quickly as you became more worried that gas might be pumped into the corridor. You quickly made it to the door at the other end of corridor and opened it up. You opened the door to find yourself find yourself staring down your sights at a pair of SS soldiers, standing guard before a T-junction. The both of them looking rather surprised at the door opening.

The one on the left barely had time to yell as you dropped into a crouch and sent a burst of fire straight into his chest. The 7.92mm rounds punching into his armoured breastplate and knocking him back. The second soldier yelled out in alarm just before he was cut to Swiss cheese by concentrated fire from your comrades behind you.

"CLEAR!" You yelled out as you stood up from your crouch and made your way over the corpses of the recently slain SS soldiers. The signs above the dead bodies read out two different areas either side of the junction.

If you took a left, you would be headed towards the archives and artefact storage areas. The path down the right would lead you towards the storage warehouse.

>Take a left, at the very least you can either steal or destroy the magical artefacts.

Aretfacts sound cool. I'm always down for collecting some loot.

Hopefully we don't accidentally bump into the Ark of the Covenant and melt.

You carefully turned to look down the hallway down to the left, you found nothing in you way, so you carefully continued on. You followed the signs towards the artefact storage area, the sound of boots on the metal floors reverberating through the corridor. It wasn't long however, before you came upon an enemy unit.

This meeting was more in your favour than you had expected, you heard the SS squad running in your direction before you even saw them. This allowed you to set up at the corner you were just rounding. You laid down on your belly and leaned around the corner while Logan knelt over you. Gilmore stood over the both of you, making what could be best described as a totem-pole of death, all that could be really be seen was your heads and your guns.

The first soldier to round the corner met a grisly end as all three of you opened up on him, his left arm was shot off as you sent a burst straight into his shoulder. The bursts from your comrades peppered his chest. The rest of his unit managed to stop before they ran into your unit's lines of fire. Their advance suppressed as you let loose with your machine gun.

As soon as you ran dry, Logan and Gilmore began to open fire, but rather than reloading and waiting for them run out of ammo, you got up from your prone position and reloaded. Logan and Gilmore both realised what you were doing and quickly made to move up with you as you continued towards where the SS unit was hiding. The pair of them firing along the way to keep the SS unit from firing out at you.

As soon as Logan ran out of ammo, you began to fire. By now you were only a few paces away from the corner, so you barely had to aim. You fired a pair of quick bursts before quickly jumping around the corner with your weapon raised. There were four soldiers there, each one of them looking up at you in horror as they stared down the barrel of your gun. You noted that one of them seemed to reek of piss, as if he had just wet himself at his coming doom.

You had intended to take them prisoner, just to relieve them of their weapons, tie them up and leave them in one of the rooms. But one of the soldier at the back, an officer by the looks of him, tried to raise his weapon to shoot you. You didn't wait for him to shoot, and you hosed down the entire group with burning hot lead. Your weapon bucking futility in your iron grip.

By the time you stopped firing there was nobody left alive in front of you, just bodies.

You simply called out that the corridor was clear, before then stepping over the bodies and continuing on. The rest of the squad managing to catch up with you as you reloaded. The rest of the journey was made in silence, everybody listening out for the sound of any possible foes, but alas, you found no-one else left to challenge you as you made your way deeper into the archives.

As you approached another turn, you heard the sound of muffled words and shifting metal plates. You stopped for a bit as you planned your next move.

Almost instinctively, you reach for your grenades. It could be argued that you might have a problem in regards to your use of explosives. But who can blame you? The base was just perfect for grenades. Either way, it didn't take you too long to pull a grenade form your belt. Said explosive being a stolen stick-grenade. As you began to pull your grenade from your belt, you noticed that Walker and Guzman both retrieved grenades of their own and made ready to throw them, wrapping their finger's around the arming pins of their fragmentation grenades.

With a single hard tug on the arming cord, you armed your grenade's fuse. You then simply tossed the grenade around the corner as your comrades did the same. You paused for a couple of seconds as you waited for the grenades to go off. And as soon as the grenades went off, you leaned around the corner with your weapon raised.

The room which you were looking into had obviously been lined with some kind of paint that had been reduced to a cloud of thick dust by your explosives. You coughed as the dust began to make it slightly harder to breath. But you kept watching for targets as the dust began to either settle or be sucked up into the vents. You soon began to spot the bodies, or at least the body parts, of the SS soldiers caught in the blast. However, as the dust began to clear even further, you noticed a pair of large shadows in the dust. As the dust began clear, the pair stood up.

They stood over six feet tall, closer to seven feet tall even. The pair of them wore heavy armour, seemingly moulded to hug and protect their bodies. Their heads were encased in helmets with in-built gas masks. Not even a small patch of skin being shown as the giants gazed at you through red-lit eye sockets. Both of them were armed with large machine guns, but it wasn't as if they needed it. In armour like that they looked like they could simply punch you to death. Behind them sat a scorched, but unpenetrated door, similar to one seen on a bank's vault.

The one on the left looked the most worse for wear, his chest plate and one of his gauntlets was scorched and cratered. You hazarded a guess that he had caught one of the grenades and held it against his chest to try and protect his comrades. The one on the right seemed almost intact, even if his weapon was broken in his hands. The more damaged one on the left seemed to notice this, and began to unhook his MG-42 from it's backpack mounted ammunition drum. His intention to hand it over to his more undamaged comrade clear.

You wasted no time and drew a bead on the one on the left as he made to pick up his weapon. You simply sprayed him down with your machine gun, aiming for his chest. The bullets ripped out from you weapon, and bounced clean off the iron giant. creating brilliant blue sparks as his body armour deflected the shots.

As your weapon ran dry, you noticed two things. Firstly, your shots had done nothing to him aside form scratch his armour. And secondly, the one on the right was pulling a large pistol from his waist. The entire gaudy weapon reminding you of an oversized Luger without a trigger-guard. You quickly managed to duck back into cover as the undamaged giant began to tire at you. The booming report of his pistol being followed up by the miniature explosion of his bullets slamming into the walls.

>Run, try to lure them into an ambush!
>Someone must have a fucking demolition charge. Have them throw it at the Nazis!
>Get everyone to shoot the damn things, they can't survive all of you shooting them, right?

Yeah, no. It didn't take an idiot to figure out that those bastards were too tough for anyone in your unit to kill. Guzman's demolitions charge could probably take out on of them, but the last thing you wanted to do was set off a demolitions charge in a room that may already be breached. You quickly turned on your heel and gestured for your unit to move.

"Quickly! Move!" You barked at your comrades as you pushed them back down the hall, your words punctuated by the booming report of the enemy's hand cannon. Your comrades quickly took the hint and ran back the way you came. As you made it to the next corner, your head was nearly blown off as the armoured soldier made it around the corner behind you and fired his heavy pistol at you. The round cut through the air just underneath your armpit and slammed into the wall in front of you.

As you reached the corner, you quickly turned and let off a burst from your MG-34, and just like before the rounds bounced off the armoured suit in a display of brilliant blue sparks. However, your hit seemed to stagger the armoured soldier as the rounds slammed into his chest armour.

"WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!" Logan yelled from around the corner, having only just seen the armoured soldier.

"NO IDEA, JUST RUN!" You yelled back as you sprinted down the winding corridors, fully aware for the rhythmic pounding of armoured boots behind you. As you made it to the next corridor, the armoured giant's aim was true.

You were just about to round the corner when your machine gun was blown out of your grasp, it's barrel being blown away from it's body. You let the remains of the weapon fall away, discarding the broken heavy weapon in favour of speed. And with this loss of weight, you managed to gain separation from the armoured foe.

As you made it back to the T-junction where you had started, you found that your unit had stopped to make a stand. Guzman, Gilmore and Walker all leaning around the corner.

"KEEP GOING! HEAD FOR THE WAREHOUSE!" You yelled as you ran past the squad, you didn't have to wait longer before you heard the sound of boots following you. You quickly drew your pistol as you ran and unlocked the safety on your pistol.

The door into the warehouse wasn't too far away from the T-junction, and it opened easily enough. You didn't wait to see if the armoured soldier was following you, you quickly opened the door and barged into the warehouse.

The warehouse was extremely large, and in spite of that it was packed almost to the ceiling with boxes and crates of every kind.

"So what now? That fucker's still following us!" Guzman asked quickly, obviously none too pleased at going from the hunter to the hunted.

>Set up an ambush, if you can all gang up on him then you can take him down.

"Into the crate labyrinth!" You called out as you took off running. "There might be heavy weapons in there!"

Your unit quickly ran into the whole mess of crates, quickly managing to hide before the door was broken open by the armoured soldier. Your unit running through as you looked around for anything that could contain a weapon to defeat the almost invulnerable foe. Your route was more determined by the routes in the line of crates, as opposed to your own choices. You were rather glad however, as the route was winding, ruining any chances of the foe behind you getting a clear shot.

Eventually however, you came to a stop in front of one of the stacked crates. The name stamped on the side of the crate making you smile.

Panzerfaust

You quickly grabbed the box and smashed open the box. The lid of the crate was pealed away to unveil a trio of launchers. Essentially a long metal tube with a bulbous warhead, the weapon 's instructions printed along the side of the warhead. You quickly grabbed one of the weapons and took position behind one of the crates.

You waited for the sound of your unit to die away, only to be replaced by the sound of the heavily armoured soldier running closer. You steeled yourself and tensed up as the sound grew louder still.

As soon as the armoured soldier rounded the corner of crates, you fired. Your rocket lanced forward, and slammed into one of the crates just behind the armoured soldier. The explosion knocked the man over, and blew open the crates behind you. The explosion sending hundreds of small cans of food flying.

With your rocket spent, you tossed the spent launcher to the ground and grabbed another one from the crate. As the armoured soldier stood up, you aimed the rocket and fired again.

What happened next shocked you. The SS soldier stood stock still as a large, blue circle inscribed with mysterious letters appeared in front of him, the rocket slammed into the shield and exploded. Much of the force of the explosion was forced back at you, and knocked you back behind the stacked crates. As you stood up, you surveyed the damage to the obviously magical soldier.

The soldier had not gotten through unscathed. His armour had been broken and shattered in multiple places, revealing pale skin underneath the armour. And embedded into the man's flesh, just below the sternum, was a green gemstone, grey wisps in the gem floating like clouds. He seemed to stand stock-still, almost in shock at the damage inflicted on him.

You didn't wait to see how the soldier would react to taking a rocket to the chest. You quickly pulled out your pistol and began to open fire on him. Your shots stitching into the man's chest and keeping him down. Your shots punching into the flesh around the gemstone. But with the final round, you finally managed to send a shot into the gemstone, smashing the gemstone to pieces.

The soldier seemed to look up at you in shock, before his head lolled forward and his arms fell down by his sides. His body only staying upright due to the armour's enhancements.

You sighed as you ejected the magazine from your pistol, letting the magazine fall to the ground as you loaded the weapon again.

>Examine the corpse and the armour. You need to find any weak points so you can better fight them later.

You slowly made your way towards the armoured soldier. Your weapon held ready at your side just in case it suddenly moved. As you reached the standing body, you began to examine the corpse.

The armour itself made the hairs on the back of your hand stand on edge as you ran your hand over the plates. The armour was slightly warm and carried a slight static feeling as you ran your hand over it. The entire thing feeling unerringly weird to the touch. However, you noted that only the larger plates carried this current, the breastplate, shoulders, thigh plates and the helmet. Aside from that, the rest of the armour seemed to be made from more natural materials.

You noted that the gas mask was not a typical system, it instead had a pipe leading into some kind of pack on the back of the armour. Additionally, underneath the life-support pack was the mountings for some kind of pack. If you were to hazard a guess, it could be to hold drums of ammunition.

You noted however, that the armour was made up of two layers. The first one being the armoured sections of suit, with the second part being an undersuit of some-kind that the armoured plates clipping onto it. The undersuit itself being armoured in places as you disengaged the latches on some of the armoured plates. You carefully began to note down where the latches on the armoured plate lay, where close combat weapons lay.

As you noted where the latches lay, you heard the sound of rapid foot-falls coming from behind you. You turned in time to see your squad round the corner with weapons raised, only to lower them.

"You... you actually managed to kill it?" Logan asked as he noted how the body stood slack in it's boots.

"Indeed, he took a pair of anti-tank rockets to stun him long enough to end it." You replied as you gave the body a slight knock. Causing it to rock back and fall down with a crash.

"Two rockets?" Guzman asked suspiciously. "...it doesn't look like it."

"Well, one missed. And he used come kind of... magic barrier, to partially block the second rocket." You explained as you kicked one of the armoured boots. "Hell, the second rocket only just managed to break the breastplate, opening up this gem-thing... I think it might be one of those soul containing gemstones. But I do know that he died only after I shot the gemstone. The other shots to the chest did absolutely nothing.

"Shit... how the hell are we meant to take these bastards out?" Guzman asked sarcastically.

>"If we have a big enough gun then we can probably punch through the armour."
>"If we hit them from two sides with rockets or explosives then one will get through. They might only be able to generate one of these shields at a time."

"If we hit them from two sides with rockets or explosives then one will get through. They might only be able to generate one of these shields at a time." You suggested as you made your way back over to the squad.

"If you say so, but the real question is how are we going to lure the other guy into a cross-fire?" Gilmore asked as you grabbed the final panzer-faust from the crate and set it down on the floor.

"Simply, we just have to bait him into the T-junction. The only question will be who will lead it back to the junction?" You asked as you moved the empty crate out of the way and broke open the one below it. Unveiling another set of panzer-fausts.

"Well how hard will it be to get him to follow us?" Logan asked as you gestured to Kyouko to come over to you.

"Well, we have two choices. We can either behead that corpse over there and try to bait him into a rage." You suggested as you gestured over to the corpse of the recently deceased armoured trooper. "Or we can have Strasse play the part of the damsel in distress."

"And what if those choices don't work?" Kyouko asked as you handed her a panzer-faust. She carefully took the launcher and began to read the printed instructions.

"Then we'll have to look for some anti-tank rifles. I highly doubt that we will be able to fire the rockets inside and survive the back blast." You replied as you returned your pistol to it's holster and picked up the single-shot rocket launcher.

"Why don't we just look for the anti-tank rifles now? Surely that would be easier than trying to bait that big fucker out." Guzman asked as he kicked one of the crates, it's contents rattling.

"That might take too long, we are still on the clock here." Walker spoke up as he began to make his way back the way you had all came.

"Either way, it's your choice here Eugen. You've killed more of those things than we have." Logan said calmly as you translated a couple of the instructions for Kyouko.

"I'll try and lure him out so we can hit him with rockets. Logan, get over here." You ordered Logan over as you made your way over to the armoured corpse. You handed your single-shot launcher over to Logan and quickly went to work removing the armoured soldier's helmet. While you had planned to simply behead the corpse, it was easier to remove the helmet and mask assembly.

As soon as the helmet was off, you stood up and began to make your way back towards the T-junction, instructing Logan and Kyouko on how to aim and fire the rocket launchers that they were equipped with.

As soon as you reached the intersection, you set up Kyouko inside the warehouse section with orders to fire through the door. You then set up Logan down the corridor you had originally came down, roughly positioned where the tripwire had once laid. The rest of your squad was spread up in support of each of them.

How were you planning on luring out the armoured trooper?

Your plan was a pretty simple, two-tier system. First you would throw his friend's helmet at him with a grenade in it. If that didn't coax him out then you would just try and insult him enough to draw him out.

If that then didn't work then... well you were kinda fucked.

You made your way back towards the vault that the armoured soldiers were protecting, following a path lined with corpses and the large craters blown into the wall by the first armoured soldier's hand cannon. Part of you regretted not taking the large pistol, but that part of you was drowned out by the more sensible part of your brain reminding you that such a large calibre weapon would have tremendous recoil. You'd probably break your hand by firing that damn thing improperly.

Either way as you reached the final corner before the vault, you took out your knife and tried to get a peak around the corner using the blade's polished surface.

And you found nothing there. Only the corpses of the SS soldiers that had died from the first barrage of grenades. Your gun instinct told you to run, that you had just ran into a trap. But as you made to run, you found your route of escape blocked off by the one thing you were here to hunt.

You barely managed to duck as the armoured SS soldier tried to catch you with a left-hook. His fist passing over your head and punching crater into the sheet-metal wall. You quickly dived backwards and pulled your pistol as the armoured soldier pulled his fist out of the wall.

>Try and run past him, you have his attention now.
>Take him in close combat, you know the weak-spots on the armour and you have the speed and agility advantage.

Now, many people in your situation would have probably pissed themselves. To be confronted by a heavily armed and armoured juggernaut, they type that took two anti-tank rockets to kill. Said juggernaut being impervious to every weapon that you were currently armed with and apparently infused with the most un-natural power imaginable. Many people would simply lock up, unable to move out of the way of their coming doom.

You however, were not one of those people. And your response was to toss the helmet of his fallen comrade at him.

The helmet collided with the juggernaut's own armoured head with a comical clang, before falling to the floor. However, the sight of his comrade's armour cave the Nazi soldier pause. And you took this pause to dive past him. Quickly diving past the Nazi's side before he could get an accurate shot at you. You took off at a dead sprint, the sound of thundering boots behind you as you ran.

Your sprint back took less than a minute, but if felt much harder than before. You chalked the increased difficulty up to the fact that if you slipped now then the armoured juggernaut would have no trouble killing you. Whereas before your comrades would have been able to stop and at least give the enemy another target.

You quickly managed to make your way back to the T-junction with only a few seconds worth of separation between you and the nazi soldier behind you. As you made it to the T-junction, you sprinted towards where Logan was setup as Kyouko stood up and made ready to fire her rocket. You barely managed to dodge down the corridor as Kyouko fired.

The explosion from Kyouko's rocket blew you off your feet, the heat of the detonation slightly burning your back and the loud noise deafening you. You landed in a heap a few meters into the coridoor where Logan was setup, and you quickly scrambled to your feet and sprinted over towards your comrades.

You noticed with some sense of relief that Logan had smashed the viewing glass, allowing a neat little way for the back blast of his launcher to be ejected into a less confined space.

You only had a few seconds to acknowledge this, before Logan fired his rocket. The high-explosive shot lancing out, and slamming into the armoured juggernaut. The shock wave of this blast was less intense than the first one, but it still knocked you to the ground.

As you slowly started to stand up from you heap on the ground, you began to smell the disgusting aroma of burned flesh. A quick glance down the hall confirmed that the smell.

The armoured soldier had been blown to hamburger-meat from the thighs up. The armour plates had apparently not been ehough to stop the rocket attack.

As you began to straighten up, you looked back yo the rest of your comrades in the corridor. Logan was still standing and was unslinging his Thompson from his back, the spend panzer-faust at this feet. Gilmore was also standing, and was moving to help Walker up, the latter having been knocked over by the shock wave of the two explosions.

"Eugen, you alright?" Logan asked as he cast you a worried glance. His voice noticeably quieter than before. However you simply chalked it up to everything seeming quieter after being so close to such a large explosion. You simply nodded and made your way towards the remains of the armoured soldier.

You were not the first person there, as Kyouko beat you there, her MP-40 dangling by her side as she gave one of the stumpy legs a quick prod.

"Heh, I though these things were meant to be tough!" She boasted as the leg flopped over onto it's sibling, taking it down with it. She looked up as you with an excited grin on her face, as if she was more than happy with having quite literally blown off some steam.

You simply gave her a grin and a pat on the shoulder as you made your way past her, Logan following just behind you. You and the rest of your unit quickly made your way to the vault.

The vault door was surprisingly intact, considering that three grenades had gone off near to it. However, even you knew that it would take a lot of firepower to put a dent in this door. It was cast from some kind of metal, probably Iron, but you had no doubt that the Nazis would probably be willing to make the damn thing out of steel if they wanted to. Set up next to the door was a simple card-reader. Similar to the one you had used to get into this wing.

"So, what's the bet that those big fuckers had a keycard on them?" Walker asked as you took a look at the reader.

"It might not matter... I could try and break open that reader and have root-around with it. Maybe see about getting it open." Romeo suggested as he came up next to you. You looked over to see him open up a pouch on his belt, revealing a selection of screwdrivers and other things.

"Are you sure that you can do it?" Gilmore asked as Romeo removed a panel on the reader and scoffed.

"Can I do it... please, this reader is child's-play. I'll have it open in five minutes, maybe ten." Romeo reported as he began to remove the panel entirely.

"Alright then. We'll take five here. Who knows what kinds of alarms are fitted to that door..." Gilmore ordered as Romeo began to go at the wires behind the card-reader with gusto.

Loot the corpses for anything you can use.

You nodded at Gilmore, before then descending on the corpses in search of a new weapon. Because believe it or not, your machine gun had been rendered useless, thanks to damage to it's barrel.

Your search left you with nothing but a few magazines and some knifes. The barrage of grenades must have set off one of the grenades carried by the unarmoured SS soldiers ad all of their weapons were in pieces. The most undamaged weapon that you was to find was a Kar-98 rifle with it's barrel bent and a large hunk of shrapnel. Even the MG-42 that has seemingly was undamaged had suffered badly, with it's barrel warped and it's lower receiver rendered unusable as the internal springs were broken out of place.

"Found anything?" Kyouko asked as you rolled over the corpse of the last SS solder. His weapon laying to the side in pieces.

"Nothing but scrap and some magazines." You replied, before reteiving a pair of salvaged MP-40 magazines from your pocket and offering them to her. "Take them, they're not doing me any good."

"Thanks." Kyouko replied merrily as she took the extra ammunition from you. There was a slight pause as you grabbed a knife off the body and passed it to her.

"Say, there were some corpses back the way we came... you want to check those out?" Kyouko offered as you stood up and closed up the pouches on your person. You did have 8 magazines, so you were good for a protracted firefight. But at the same time, you did want something with a bit more firepower.

"Sure..." You agreed, before turning to the sergeant, who was talking with Romeo. "If you don't mind, me and Kyouko will be taking a look at the corpses further up the hall."

Gilmore looked over at you and nodded. "Understood, keep your guard up. There may still be SS soldiers hiding around." he paused for a couple of seconds, before then gesturing over to Strasse. "Take her with you, at the very least she can carry some spare equipment for you on the way back."

"Sure." You nodded as you made your way away from the room, Kyouko following you out after casting Strasse a dirty look.

"And while you're there. Prioritise getting grenades. We'll need them later." Gilmore shouted back at you as your little group left in search of weaponry. You could almost sense the tension between both Kyouko, so you decided to distract her.

"So Kyouko, what brings you here?" You asked as you turned around the corner, leaving the vault behind.

"Because I'm an enemy of the Reich. What, did you think I was here for tea and biscuits?" She replied flippantly, before adding the sarcastic remark.

"Obviously, I was asking what you did to get here?" You explained calmly, before further specifying your question as you continued on.

"I was part of a resistance group in Austria. We ambushed a few SS patrols, firebombed some checkpoints, nothing much." She clarified as your reached the corpses. You quickly bent down and tuned over one of the corpses and began to search it as you asked another question.

"What caused you to join up with the resistance?" You asked as you confiscated an MP-18 from the corpse and a pair of magazines.

"Well... my-" Kyouko began, before being cut off by the sound of a weapon being cocked behind you.

"Hands up Amerikaners. Let the medic go." A gravely voice spoke up from behind you. You slowly put your hands up as you looked behind you. Behind your small group was a group of technicians, lead by an SS soldier. From the looks of it they were only armed with pistols and some improvised weapons. Only the SS soldier had any real firepower. Strasse looked relieved to see them. Even going as far as to run over to the lead SS soldier and try to hug him, only for him to palm her off onto one of the technicians.

"Don't worry Miss Strasse. You're safe now, your sister will be here soon." One of the technicians tried to calm Strasse down as she pressed her head into his chest.

"Drop your weapons, slowly." The SS soldier ordered, his MP-40 swaying between you and Kyouko. She looked over at you and you nodded to her, telling her wordlessly to follow their lead for now. You slowly placed your pistol on the ground and took off your combar harness. And while you relinquished your boot-knife, you kept the one tucked underneath your shirt.

"Tie them up, we can use them to get their comrades to surrender." The lead SS soldier ordered his lackeys in German. A pair of technicians slowly began to make their way towards you and Kyouko. You noted with some satisfaction however, that only the SS soldier seemed to have a loaded weapon. The technician's Lugers lacking magazines.

Just as the technicians reached you and Kyouko, did the pair of you do the same thing. Or at least similar things.

You waited until the technician had his hand on your left arm, before quickly turning around and punching him in the gut. The winding blow caused him to drop his pipe and crumple, you quickly grabbed him by his collar and hoisted him up, using him as a shield. You noticed Kyouko perform a similar move on the two technicians moving on her. However, she dealt with the first one by hitting him with a quick mule kick to the throat. She then used her momentum to knee the other technician in the balls, leaving him open fro a grab.

You quickly forced your nazi shield forward, taking the SS soldier off guard. And withing a few paces you and Kyouko were both right in front of the nazi group. You threw the technician into the SS soldier before quickly drawing your knife and going to work as one of the technicians lead Strasse away.

The first person to come at you tried to hit wou with an overhead swing with a stool. You dodged the attack and rammed your knife into his sternum, a quick and dirty shove causing the blade to pivot inside the man's chest. Slashing his vital organs and leaving him to drown in his own blood.

The second one tried to grapple you as you pulled your knife from the body of the first. You rewarded his effort with a butterfly kick to the chest and face. The wet snap of pulverised bone and his head snapping back too far to be safe told you that the second strike had snapped his head from his shoulders. You landed in a crouch as his body hit the floor.

You looked up in time to see a rather polished boot kick you in the face. You were knocked back onto your ass and dazed by the blow. But you regained your senses in time to dodge the brutal swing of an entrenching tool from the SS soldier now straddling you. You realised with some horror that you had lost control of your knife. A quick glance telling you that Kyouko had also been overpowered by a pair of technicians, one of them holding her down while the other one began to raise a sledgehammer over his head.

You looked back in time to see the SS soldier give you a murderous grin as he raised his shovel to bash your head in.

BANG, BANG, BANG

Three shots rang out, followed by the sound of two corpses hitting the ground, and the smile falling off the SS soldier's face. A blooming crimson wound appearing on the right side of his chest. The soldier's weapon dropped out of his hands as he tried to gasp for air, only for his gasp to be mimicked by the sucking wound to his lung as air flowed out of the holes in his body.

BANG, BANG, BANG

The second and third shot created similar wounds, but only the fourth shot knocked him down. You had to move quickly to block the body from falling directly on top of you, instead using the momentum to force the body off you. You stared at the body for a couple of seconds, before then looking over at the source of the shots.

And standing in the middle of the coridoor, was Klara Strasse. The smoking, empty Luger clenched tight in her shaking hands. tears streaming down her gaunt face as the realisation of what she just did hit her like a tonne of bricks. At her feet lay the corpse of the technician that had been trying to get her away from you, a knife jutting out of his chest.

Slowly, Strasse began to lower the empty pistol. Before then letting it fall out of her hands as her arms fell slack by her sides. The shock of taking her first lives beginning to strip her of her self-control.

You calmly got up from your position on the ground. Taking only a second to dab off the flecks of blood off your face as you rose. A cursory glance over at Kyouko showed that she was indeed still alive, and was in the process of pushing the corpse of the sledge-hammer wielding technician. It didn't take you long to reach Strasse, her eyes staring past you, even though you stood directly in front of her. Her blank, unfocused gaze seemingly reaching on for a thousand yards. You calmly wrapped your arms around her and brought her into a hug as you recognised what she was feeling.

The guilt, the emotional backlash of taking another person's life. Your instructors had refereed to it as 'The Wall' during training. The guilt from a soldier's first kill, their first missions, anything which required them to watch as another living and breathing human was slaughtered before them. And you knew how something like this could resurface at the least opportune time. You had watched as hardened shock-troopers screamed and cried in the middle of the warzones that they had once walked without the barest hint of fear. Splattered with blood and gore, wailing barely-coherent confessions and apologies to the sky. Snipers breaking down in the middle of their missions and turning their weapons on themselves when the guilt became too much to bear, when they watched their prey bleed out through their scopes. Veterans of all shapes and sizes locking themselves in their quarters, withdrawing from everyone, becoming mumbling recluses talking to empty air, clutching their weapons in their hands. Everyone - no matter what rank, everyone suffered it. Everyone went through it. And almost everyone got over it. Those that didn't ended up taking a lead-amphetamine as their final, self-inflicted medication. One last terminal solution to the pain.

Everybody had their ways through it. Their ways to stop throwing up at the sight of the recently deceased. Some would simply refuse to see corpses as the people they once were but simply as useless matter that should be disposed of. Some attempted to bend the rules a bit, to make the act less... taxing on their conscience. Shock troopers trained themselves to go after vital organs with high-power weapons, leaving no time for the victim to feel pain. Snipers would go for incapacitating wounds instead of killshots, or would try to suppress the enemy long enough for them to surrender or be driven away.

You... you didn't know how you managed to get past this emotional wall. Or maybe you still hadn't managed to? You knew of many times where hardened veterans -who had seemed like they had made it past the wall- had simply snapped during combat, resetting all of that hard work as they begged to god for forgiveness.

You also knew of those that reached the wall, looked at it, and smashed through it with their bare hands. Never feeling the pang of guilt, never getting the nightmares filled with the faces of the freshly murdered. They not only relished the work, but anticipated it. Savoured it. Counted every kill, every shot, every target. Taking not only gusto in their work but also a smug kind of pride. And it worried you that this kind of person wasn't only found in the SS, they were in every military. Germans, British, Italians and Americans. All of them proud of the lives they had ended.

You were never one of them, such enjoyment was always taboo to you. But as horrible as you thought some of them were, you secretly admired them. The ability to do your work with no regrets and without seeing those that you had slain in your nightmares was appealing in itself. You found yourself horrified at how it almost felt good to kill members of the SS. Was this the first signs of your decent to that level of coldness?

As Strasse began the hug you back, the tears flowing off her face and onto your chest. You began to hum a calming lullaby. One that your step-mother had sung to you when you were young. One that you had always hummed to yourself when you began to break down. You gently rocked Strasse as you hummed to her, raising your voice slightly as the sound of heavy footfalls grew closer.

You looked over at the corner in time to see Logan and Walker round the corner with weapons raised, scanning for targets. Only for them to lower their weapons as they noticed the corpses.

"Well, looks like we can guess what happened..." Logan surmised as he made his way towards you, his weapon at his side. You simply nodded to him, before cocking your head towards the sobbing Strasse. Who right now was performing her best impression of a magnetic mine on you.

"Either way, you'd better head back to the vault. We'll help Kyouko scavenge weapons and ammo." Logan instructed you as he came to a stop before you. Walker quickly squeezing past you and slinging your former primary weapon over his shoulder as he began to get to work recovering more ammunition for the inevitable final stand.

With a wordless nodd, you quickly scooped up Strasse into your arms and made your way past Logan. But after a few paces, you stopped and called back to Logan.

"My pistol is back there. If you wouldn't mind retrieving it for me I would greatly appreciate it." You asked, before then continuing on your way, Strasse continuing to keep her hold on you. Your trek back was slowed as you tried to carry Strasse back as gently as possible, when you arrived back at the vault door, you were greeted by a pair of raised weapons. Only for them to lower their weapons when they realised who was there.

"Eugen, what happened? We heard gunfire." Gilmore asked as walked closer.

"We were jumped while searching the bodies. We fought them off, but ultimately Strasse was the one that ended that fight." You reexported as you tried to put Strasse down, only for her to keep herself wrapped around you.

"Really? How did she manage that?" Guzman asked curiously as you gave up on putting Strasse down.

You simply looked over at him, and made a finger-gun with your hand. Cocking back your hand back as if to mimic the recoil of a gunshot. Guzman nodded in understanding as he connected the dots. The realisation of what happened spreading across Gilmore's face.

"She managed to-" Gilmore began, only for you to preemptively answer.

"Yes. And what you are witnessing now is the aftermath of her doing what needed to be done." You replied calmly as you gestured to your sobbing comrade. The room descended into silence, before the sound of sparking electricity brought your attention to the vault.

"She's unlocked." Romeo stated as he pressed one of the buttons on the dis-mounted reader. The sound of metal dead-bolts filling the air as the locks fell out of place.

"Good. Let's wait for everyone else to get here..." Gilmore replied, before glancing back at the door. "We have no idea what is behind it..."

You simply stood there, keeping your arms wrapped around Strasse in support. You waited for a few more minutes, after which, the rest of the squad returned back to vault. You looked over in time to see Kyouko offer you your pistol, your initials carved into the grip.

"Here... figured that you would want it back..." Kyouko stated, before looking over at Strasse. As soon as you took your pistol, Kyouko slowly reached over and placed her hand on Strasse's shoulder. "And for the record, I respect you..."

Strasse seemed to nodd at this.

"Hey, Eugen. Do you want to take point?" Gilmore asked as the squad began to stack up on the door.

"No thanks. I will stay back with Strasse." You replied calmly as you set Strasse down on her feet. Your pistol clenched in your right hand while your left hand was holding Strasse's hand.

Gilmore nodded at you, before nodding at Romeo, who pressed a button on the keypad. With a mechanical hiss, the thick steel door swung open. One-by-one, your unit began to enter into the room. You quickly followed in behind them, with Strasse following behind you.

As soon as you entered, you were greeted by a large hall, arrayed across a large number of tables were piles of papers and notes. A number of rooms seemily branched out of the room. Logan made his way deeper into the room, with his Thompson raised to his shoulder. However, Kyouko looked over at what looked like a facility map, attached to the wall.

"Hey, look at this!" She called out, you quickly made your way over as she began to pour over the map. "Says here, that if we go back into the warehouse, then down here to the right, then there should be a hanger. Maybe there's an aircraft that we can use to escape?"

"Maybe... but that's if anybody here knows how to fly." Gilmore replied, before walking over to one of the tables and picking up one of the papers.

"Well, there's also rooms off to the sides that contain artifacts. One for weaponry one for tablets and-" Kyouko continued, before being interupted by Guzman.

"Does it honestly matter? We're here to frag this whole place. Not make a smash and grab." Guzman replied as he began to push tables full of papers towards eachother.

>Agree with Guzman. You're just her to destroy this stuff. It's not like are even sure that there is an aircraft out of this hellhole.

"Guzman's right. We have no idea if we even have a way out of here. And if we don't then we need to cause as much damage as possible." You agreed with Guzman as Romeo moved past you to guard the entrance.

"What about the artefacts?" Logan asked as he leaned into one of the rooms. "A few of those are made of metal."

"I still have that demolition charge. If we shove them all into a room and blown them up then it should deal with them." Guzman replied as he continued to move more tables full of papers closer together.

"According to this, there's a radio room over there..." Kyouko called out, before gesturing over to one of the rooms. "Maybe we can try and radio your comrades?"

"That's if there they are still alive." Gilmore replied glumly, before then gesturing over at the room. "Walker, get on the horn and see if there is anyone left alive. Logan, help Romeo guard the door. Eugen, Kyouko, Strasse. Get to work moving all of the artefacts into one room."

At that, everybody jumped to their tasks. You quickly followed Kyouko into one of the side rooms, this one filled with stone tablets, old books and other things that you would expect to find in an archaeological dig-site. many of them were housed in glass cases to protect them from the outside world.

Unfortunately, the cases weren't meant to survive being broken open by you and your comrades. A mad dash between where the artefacts were kept, and a pair of trolleys. After a few minutes, the room was in tatters and the trolleys were packed high with artefacts. You quickly rolled the trolleys into the next room one at a time. The room chosen for demolition was very sparsely decorated. Yet it still contained a number of artefacts of it's own. Notably a number of weapons and shields. Ranging from large swords, to shields and even a pair of firearms.

Klara (the Strasse in your group) is the second youngest. The youngest is part of the Hitler youth, with aspirations to join the Kreigsmarine. Klara informed you about her in thread 1, when you were interrogating her.

Pausing for a couple of seconds, you began to go through the assorted artefacts as you moved them into the small area in the missile of the room that has been designated as the destruction pile. You ended up having little luck with the stone tablets, as many of them were written either in Latin or very old German. Many of the books were also written in high German, and possessed a series of overtly fancy titles, such as 'The King In Yellow', which possessed a weird sigil on the cover.

In fact, the only book that you instantly recognised was Goethe's Faust. It's name punched into the cover of the leather bound tome. You carefully put the book into your pack, at the very least it would fetch a good barter price for if you managed to escape. You also shoved a pair of legible tomes into your pack too.

Your next port of call was the weapons and armour, each one was contained inside a glass case. There was ten artefacts, two were pieces of armour, another three were ranged weapons while the remaining five were assorted close combat weapons.

You decided to start out with the newest looking weapon. A revolver. You weren't the best at identifying weapons, but you could tell that it was certainly old. It sat inside a fetching, white, snake-skin holster. Sat along next from it was a musket of ivory and silver. A quick glance down the barrel showed you that the weapon was rifled nicely. The weapon's percussion-locked action was locked closed.

Further down the line was a deep black bow. A number of barbs along it's limbs giving it an unclean and dangerous look. However with a lack of arrows, the weapon was useless. Sat just past it was not a weapon at all, but rather a small, circular shield. Intricate patterns along it's face showing off the craft of the armourer who made it. A pair of indentations for gemstones sat on the face of the shield.

Just past the shield was a gauntlet of crimson and black plates. Said plates forming a number of large sections, including a large vambrace that reached up to the wearer's elbow. Aside from that, there was another indentation for a gemstone on the back of the hand section of the gauntlet. And just past this sat by far the largest weapon, and it was one that you recognised.

Standing almost a meter and a half tall, the Zweihänder that stood tall before you had a very typical cruciform guard and a large pommel. The hilt was wrapped in what looked like a copper and iron wrapped wire. The blade gleamed with almost a polished edge. Just past that lay a broken, vaguely Asian curved blade. In even more opposition to the Zweihänder, the weapon was rather small, and possessed a vaguely oval-shaped guard. It's broken blade was also coloured a midnight black, similar to the bow from before.

>CONT
>>
>>954376
In a break from the blades, a large, spiked club sat between the broken blade and the next batch of weaponry. This bat was made out of a very dark wood with inlaid arrowheads and barbed wire wrapped around it. Giving the weapon a terrifying look. Just along from it was the final sword, a fat-bladed rapier. It's silver and black frame possessing a silver circle that was attached to the sword's cross guard.

The final weapon was a glave of some kind. It possessed a pair of curved and mirrored, single-edge blades at it's top. You noticed that the weapon's pole was divided up by a number of bronze rings. Giving it an almost segmented look.

As you finished perusing the assorted weaponry, you looked over to find that Kyouko had joined you in browsing the selection of fine weaponry. You looked over at her as she stared in awe at the double-bladed glave.

"Interested in this?" You asked as you gestured to the weapon.

"Yeah... I think that it looks pretty deadly." Kyouko began, before turning to you and grinning. "It looks like it could punch a pretty big hole in one of those SS fuckers."

You chuckled heartily as you walked past her, headed for the largest weapon in the room. "If that stick could do that much damage... then I'm pretty sure that this could cut one of those armoured fuckers in half."

"Suit yourself then. At least with this I can fight better with this." Kyouko began as she smashed the glass display holding the glave. You followed her lead by smashing the glass case containing the Zweihander.

You stared at the weapon's remarkably fine craftsmanship for a good few seconds, before reaching out and hefting it with your right hand, your pistol grasped in your left hand as you hauled the large blade out of containment and rested the flat of the blade against your shoulder. The weapon's polished silver blade weighing just as much as you would expect of a blade it's size.

"Heh, nice blade." Kyouko called out, you looked over in tome to give her new toy a twirl, before holding it upright. "Not as good as mine though..."

You laughed hertily, taking your comrade's boast as a joke. "You wish! This big bitch could..." You trailed off as you looked over as something moved in the corner of your eye. You turned to face the movement, only for the rest of your sentence to die on your throat.

Standing in the middle of the room, just in front of the mound of soon to be destroyed artefacts was the spectre from before. And she was not smiling. Her face was wracked with distraught as her eyes darted between you and Kyouko.

"Eugen? What are you..." Kyouko began, only to trail off as she followed your eyes. "Who the hell is she?"

The spectre seemed to try and say something, her mouth moved, but no words came out. You watched in steadily growing worry as the spectre's eyes began to shift from gold to red, a change that seemed to encroach from the sclera, before rolling over the iris and the pupil. Leaving both of her eyes as giant red orbs.

It was about this time, that you noticed that your right hand was beginning to warm up rather quickly. You cast a quick glance over at your hand, only to see it glowing with an unnatural purple light. You cast a worried glance over at Kyouko, in time to see her notice that her hand was glowing red. The pair of you both shared a worried glance as you tried to drop the sword, yet your hand would not respond to your commands. You cast another glance down at your hand, and watched in horror as it burst into flame. An unhoy purple flame wrapped around the sword and your hand.

And as the flames began to spread, you began to scream.

You were fortunate to say that you had never once felt the feeling of your own body on fire. The pain washing over you and drowning out your other senses as the flames engulfed your body. You could only barely hear Kyouko's pained screaming, you would have felt anguish at the knowledge that someone else was beholden to the same fate as you. However, the constant pain of your body lighting up like a bonfire drowned out all other emotions.

You sight was soon robbed form you as the pain blinded you. You hearing soon left you, followed by your sense of smell. And finally, mercifully, the feeling of pain was snuffed out almost as quickly as it had appeared. But with your senses now gone, you found yourself unable to feel, see, smell or hear. All of your senses robbed from you by the flames.

After a few seconds of this senseless hell, you began to hear it. Whispers from all around you, in so many different voices. Whispers of gods and kings, of demons and things that made your head spin. But in amongst this constant barrage of whispered truths and lies, you found a single phrase that you kept in your mind. Holding it close to you like a rock in a storm.

>“...shall defend...”
>“...so that others may live...”
>“...until I collapse...”
>“...death before dishonour...”
>Other (write in)

In that order. Is that an option?

If we can't do that then changing to shall defend.
>>
“...shall defend...” A phrase, or at least pert of a phrase you had spoken what seemed like a lifetime ago. To people you never planned to see again. An invocation that you would defend your fatherland from those that would wish to conquer it.

Now that you think about it, you really didn't think about that promise when you chose to defect to the allies. No matter, you broke many promises when you chose the abandon the Reich, what's another one to the list?

As you mulled this over. Your senses began to return your sight returning first, with things starting off as a bright light. Then moving from a single solid colour to a blur of colours. And as you blinked, things became clearer. eventually, things began to come into focus

You found yourself standing in the hallway leading towards the vault, before you stood a squad of SS storm troopers, all frozen in time. You slowly strolled your way towards the vault, passing soldiers welding all manners of weapons and protective armour. As you reached the room which contained the vault door, you found yourself gazing upon a pair of the armoured soldiers firing into the vault. One of them in the middle of having his head taken off by a heavy bullet to the neck, the massive round having torn through the flesh with a great spray of blood. Arrayed around the vault door was a number of fresh SS corpses.

Inside the vault, the scene was grim. Your comrades were stuck inside, hiding behind an overturned table, backed up by piles of papers and other impromptu armour. And in spite of the cover, your unit was taking losses. Romeo and Walker both lay dead on the ground, Guzman barely stood with a nasty wound to his leg. Logan had taken what looked like a shrapnel wound to the face, yet he kept fighting with Romeo's MP-40.

You looked over to the radio room, where you saw Gilmore holding a gun to Strasse's head as she talked to someone over the radio, you could just barely see tears streaking down her face.

Morbid curiosity drove you on as you walked into the room where you and Kyouko had dabbled with what was best left un-touched.

Even though the door was shut and barred, you simply walked through the door. Entered to find the entire room scorched, the charred remains of the burned papers lay on the floor in a heavy black matt on the ground. The glass containers that held the other weapons had been scorched black, leaving the fate of the artefacts inside unknown. But the most unnerving things were the husks, and what stood around them.

Husk was the only real way to describe the state that your body was in. it was seemingly caked in a cocoon of black ash. Your body was posed in a kneeling position, with the blade of your Zweihänder jammed into the floor. Kyouko's corpse had suffered a similar fate, except hers was posed into a low crouch with her spear at the ready.

And standing in front of Kyouko's corpse, was Kyouko. Her body only semi-corporeal, and slightly translucent as she stood with one hand on her charred body, and the other held in the hand of the spectre. With a brilliant burst of red flames, Kyouko's ghostly form disappeared. Leaving cracks on the layer of ash that covered her posed body. And through one of those cracks, slipped a lock of red hair.

The spectre seemed to notice your arrival, as she turned and faced you. She gave you a warm smile, before gesturing to your charred body with one hand. And offering her other hand to you, beckoning for you to do the same as your comrade...

You stared down at her hand for a few seconds, part of you feeling the urge to not associate yourself with this spirit. It screamed at you to turn and run, trying to escape from the spirit.

But that urge was overpowered by your urge to protect your comrades, your need to save those that would take the exact same measures to save you. You walked over to the spirit and took her hand, and in spite of you being semi-transparent, you could feel the spectre's hand as if she was real. She smiled at you as you put your hand on the husk's shoulder.

As you felt some kind of energy begin to flow through you, you noticed cracks begin to appear on the ash that covered the husk. Just as you felt yourself begin to fade, your spirit being dragged somewhere else. The spectre looked over at you, and leaned closer to you, until her face was right in front of yours.

"Good luck... you will need it..." She bid you, before everything suddenly snapped to black.

When your sight returned to you, you were back in your body. You slumped down as you began to drag acrid air into your lung. Dragging air into your empty lungs with long, gasping breaths as the cocoon of ash began to fall away from you in large chunks.

You looked over to your left to find Kyouko breaking out of the ashen cocoon, a bright red gemstone affixed to a necklace that dangled from her neck. You would have though about this for a bit longer, but the sound of gunfire outside called your attention. You quickly lurched up, your body springing up with energy that you had never thought that you had.

You pulled your Zweihänder out of the charred ground as almost an afterthought, the blade coming out of the ground far too easily as you stood up, your blood pumping as you made ready to leap into combat.

Ok then, as it's late as all hell so I'm going to call today's run here. We're in the final stages of this arc, so I'm going to end this thread and I'll start a new one tomorrow so that we can get everything finished. This will make up for the fact that I won't be able to run the planned Pilot Quest Christmas special.

Anyways, if you have any questions then feel free to ask them.

Do we have some kind of gemstone? Or is it something else, like the sword itself?
