From the day I was born, I sought to see the deeper meaning in things. To this end, I fought, trained, and studied. I struggled to grasp at the straws of truth and knowledge I was shown.
I struggled to be great; I wanted to see my world bloom like the Cherry Blossoms of Konoha in May.

Instead, what I would find is the crushing end of all that mattered to me in this world...as well as the hidden truth I had unknowingly been searching for all this time.
Reality is a cruel nightmare.

Some may say my sight was taken with my eyes. They would never realize it was they who were blinded by their own hopes and dreams, like those same cherry blossoms destined to wither away ere long.
But in these past months, my most treasured nightmare has seemingly rose from her ashes.

I saw her die with my own eyes.

Sheets of paper coalesce in the night sky, taking a slender, fragmented shape of a beautiful blue-haired young woman. "You've watched him too, haven't you? You've seen it, the powers of the tailed beasts, in action. The monk is the key to our goal. I need to tell Nag-"

"Do not tell anyone of this yet, Konan."

She looks at you expressionlessly. "...and why would I keep something like this a secret from him?"

A small flash of red pierces through a hole in the man's spiral mask as he looks upon the blonde teacher and her pupil stumbling drunkly home.

"Let's just say...I have some things I need to see first. Please, feel free to inform HIM once I am finished."

Rin...how is it possible?
...and just who is this monk?

>Your name is Amon Shuu, a humble monk of the Water Temple.
>You have no family to speak of, another one of the many casualties of the 2nd Shinobi World War. Your luck pulled through when a wandering monk, Myatsuu, snatched you from the debris of a border skirmish between Konohagakure and Kirigakure with your village having been reduced to rubble in the midst of battle. You were 4 years old. The monk, Myatsuu, brought you back to the Water Temple in the marshy coastlines of the Land of Water.

>Nearly 14 years later, the Temple- your home- had fallen to attackers from the Village Hidden in the Mist. You travel across lands to deliver the merchant, Yoru, safely to his destination.
>Last thread you attained a new teacher, Lady Tsunade, and helped everyone recover from the events of the Heist. You tried to have several drinks to get to know your new master better but things quickly escalated into a test of ability. You blacked out soon after from the alcohol.
>You woke up next to your new teacher following some fevered dreams and sneaked back home to center yourself before your training began in earnest.

(Continuing from last thread's vote)

>Tsunade is revered as the strongest Taijutsu user of the Sannin...and for good reason. You would be hard-pressed for better instruction. (+.5 Taijutsu)
>Tsunade pushes your natural, and enchanced, stamina to its very limit. No rest, no breaks, and no mercy from this woman. (+.5 Stamina, Choosing twice will give additional control when releasing the Seal of Babylon) x2

"So, this is where you were hiding! Hangover or not..I told you tobe prepared to begin training immediately, no exceptions!"

You manage to stumble to your feet, although scattering your materials around the floor in the process! Outside, you see the receptionist huddling behind the counter with a scared, despairing expression as he stares at the destroyed remains of the door. You can only stammer at the sudden dynamic entry. "W-Wait, aren't we going to warm up or meditate bef-"

"NO EXCEPTIONS!" Tsunade bellows as she grabs you by the scruff of your robe and firmly drags you out onto the streets outside, past a snickering Rin and Shizune.
-----------

Tsunade made it fairly clear she intended to train your stamina first and foremost. By train, you mean mercilessly destroy.
By "made it fairly clear", you mean she quite literally threw you into the thick of it.

"What is the first rule for a medic or non-offensive combatant?!"

You pant both physically and mentally as you take the twentieth lap around the city while wearing the weighted clothing she tossed on you. "I... *heave* think...*puff* help your comrades...?"

"WRONG! DON'T. GET. HIT!"

Thus began the second phase of the run, otherwise known as the "live fire" laps. With dusk finally setting, the exercise ends and you collapse onto your chest -nearly unable to breath, let alone feel your legs.

"I've seen better, Amon- sloppy, too sloppy. Go rest up, we continue first thing again tomorrow morning. Oh...no drinking this time around, too."

Everything is pain. There's still some time tonight to get something else done, though. Maybe Tsunade took some pity on you...though you shudder as you think of what that would mean a serious training session is like.

As Tsunade nonchalantly strides into the sunset, whatever her destination (though you strongly believe it won't be a dry one), the painful, aching throbs wracking your body keenly remind you of someone.

Tai.

You'd seen the grotesque injuries he suffered firsthand not even a full day ago. Shizune had been treating him throughout the night, if you remember correctly. How much of the damage to his body had been healed? Was he awake? Lying in the dust of the street, thoughts of your brother monk flood into your mind along with a soft nostalgia.

...how could you have even left his side? He's...he's the only real family you have left, isn't he?

Resolving to see Tai before anything else, even rest, you jump to your feet and hustle towards the makeshift clinic that Shizune set up across town.
Or...at least, you attempt to. You give the mental command for your torso to thrust up push up or your legs to shift forward...but your body only twitches anticlimatically. Okay...you'll try to push yourself up with your arms instead, then. Again, you get nearly the same effect...your arms almost audibly deflate with a stinging throb with just the thought of moving them an inch. You lay face-down in the road, almost completely incapacitated.

"H-Hey, can someone help me out? I need a bit of a hand here....hello?"

A small cloud of dust blows across the entirely empty street.

"...Anybody?"

A small tumbleweed rolls across your field of vision. You...you're going to be stuck like this all night, aren't you? Just as the thought crosses your mind, you hear a steady, light tread of footsteps approach from the road behind you. Your mind flashes to the memory of the small, androgenous child from the casino- the one who attempted to attack Asa and Yoru.

Oh no, not here.

"Amon? What are you doing here, are you alright?" Rin quickly hustles around to your side, where you see her soft, concerned face looking you up and down for injuries. A sigh of relief escapes your chest. This could have ended quite a bit worse. "You look terrible! I-I mean...you look like you...n-nevermind. Your body is really swollen and bruised, was this all from training?"

You manage to tilt your head up just enough to respond to her face. "Yeah...this training is a bit more of a handful than I expected. Can you heal me, Rin? I'm a bit handicapped right now."

Rin nods understandingly, though she looks a bit upset at your condition. "Of course, Amon. Just hold still, okay?"

"I don't really think that's going to be a problem."

You watch Rin as she begins to focus her chakra in a greenish glow around her hands. As she runs her hands over your body, the pain slowly but surely subsides. It will take a little bit of time to finish, to be sure. You also realize you haven't seen or talked to Rin much at all since a while before, when you checked her seal before the heist. You never truly told her what you found then...

Remembering how Rin was with Shizune earlier this morning, you can;t help the growing curiousity about Rin's own activities. However...you also transparently recall how neither Rin nor Shizune knew you were in Tsunade's room.

It's fair to say you'd like to keep things that way. Now, how to be unassuming about it...

"So how was your day?"

Rin smiles, giggling a little as she tries to continue concentrating on her efforts. "...I can't remember the last time someone asked me how my day was. Let me think...I-I woke up this morning to a really pretty sunrise. I don't know why, but I guess that made me feel happy...and kind of sad, after everything that happened. Oh! Shizune managed to heal most of the burns on my body, too!"

Rin stops for a moment, rolling up her sleeves to shown you one of the last patches of angry, red skin running up her arm to her shoulder and lower neck.

"I think I want to keep this. Like a reminder, you know? It will tell me how I need to be quicker or smarter to aid my comrades, maybe even give me the strength to do even greater things. I know it sounds kind of silly...but I like how it looks."

You're not sure what to think...so you don't, and just listen to Rin talk freely for the first time you can remember.

" And Shizune, she's so...thoughtful. It's like she almost radiates her own, strong power. I can feel the strength of her own commitment to help others. I guess...I guess I admire her? I don't know myself, but all I could think of when I saw her helping those victims was how much I wanted to be like her. It's...weird saying it out loud. I'm glad she agreed to teach me. I haven't felt like this about someone since...since...n-nevermind."

Rin awkwards cuts off, blushing furiously as her own train of thought catches up to the words spilling out of her mouth. She blushes furiously as she progressively heals your sore limbs and body.

The thought of the seal -the tailed beast as well- hang dreadfully on the forefront of your mind as you look on the passionate young girl next to you. Should...should you tell her? You need to let her know what you learned, but...is it worth risking her happiness? Rin's gentle, sincere smile -even despite the heavy blush- etches itself into your memory. It's...beautiful, in its own, simple way.

You promised to protect her...to protect it. But, she needs to know.

"Rin...before, when I checked the seal inside you before I...I found something. I-I...need to tell you."

Rin stops, looking at you with an expression of ignorant curiousity. You breath in deep, letting the truth flow out in a single, long breath.

"The Three-Tails, a tailed beast, is sealed in your heart. The seal is...unstable, flawed -maybe on purpose. If left unchecked it may even...it could end you. The demon told me things...you may not be able to go home without risking its release."

There is a silence as the soothing, healing aura slowls to a trickle. Rin's eyes wide -staring at the ground next to you- as she unconsciously trembles. Your muscles healed, you heave yourself to your knees wih a burst of effort...

...and embrace Rin in a deep hug.

"...I'll figure out something, Rin. I won't let this be the end-all for you. I'll fix everything...I'll protect you. After all..."

"A promise...is a promise," Rin shakenly echos your words in your embrace.

You part after more than a few moments and Rin gives you a short smile. "I'll always be there for you too...just get down and let me finish healing you already, I-Idiot."

Rin finishes her work much more quietly. As she tops off the healing session, she collapses into a pile on the ground herself, panting. When you try to help her, she waves you off.

Apparently she's just a bit winded and needs a minute. You wait until her breathing steadies before heading to see Tai...

You approach the cloth tent in a solemn silence, the area mostly clear and cordoned off following last night's events. Opening the curtains, you're met with two rows of patients and several attendants scattering back and forth around the surprisingly spacious area. Who you're looking for is in the back, however; approaching the single gurney placed off to the side of the other two, neat rows...you look upon the broken body of your brother, Tai.

His wounds are surprisingly well-healed. The dent in his chest is gone, with a number of stitches and fresh skin in place of the angry black bruises in the area. His torso seems largely...replaced, though. The well developed chest and muscles seem largely tattered or patchwork in places, like entire sections had been removed or destroyed. looking along his side and part of his back, you see new, red skin overwhelmingly engulfing the sections. His leg is still grotesquely damaged...and his arm is still...gone. You think you hear a whisper. Looking around, you see only unconscious patients and busy nurses attending to them -the source nowhere to be seen- with the exception of one attendant, face shrouded by the hooded white nurse coat, paying close attention to you. You hear the whisper again, placing the sound as coming from below you.

Tai.

The murmoring whispers were coming from Tai...you bend down to hear what he is saying.

"-a....Mar...ia...she's...still..."

You feel a quivering hand weakly grasp you. Tai's eyes crack open just slightly, his pupils dilated in different sizes in his touch of fevered delirium. "Sh-she's...still...there. Find...her..."

His loose grasp fails, his hand slipping from the cloth of your robes. In his pain-induced dream he reaches inside the tatters of his own robe with his remaining hand. After a few tense moments, he pulls it out and fervently clasps it -along with whatever object held in it- into your palm.

"My...child..."

With these words, his pupils expand once more as his eyelids flicker and droop into unconsciousness.

You look down into the object stuffed into your hand...the wooden figurine you saw Tai carving himself a long time ago. It is a naked woman, her close-eyed expression one of utmost comfort and grace. Her body is twisted, as if caught in the middle of a moonlight dance. She cradles a harp within one of her slender arms like a child, clutching it against her bare chest.

Your mind flashes back to the vision Bishamon had shown you...Maria...Tai had impregnated her...

Did...Tai have a child?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7m0IUJS-LOY

As you consider what this could mean, the voice of the unnoticed figure standing beside you speaks up in a decisive, pedantic tone.
"Such a cruel fate to be left alone in this world...don't you think? For such noble efforts and achievements, the man was only left with regret and longing. I suspect the life he lived was one to escape the nightmare of reality galloping ever closer on his heels."

Startled, you jump aside and look to see the hooded medical assistant gazing down at your brother monk's limp body pityingly. You see a flash of orange and black under the shadow of the white hood, but can't make out any other details.

"To be granted such power but unable to change the world around him...it seems more of a curse than a blessing to me. What do you think...Amon Shuu?"

Calmly, you respond to the mysterious stranger with a passionate heat burning in your throat. ""We all change the world around us, in big ways and small, for better or for worse. I choose to change it for the better. Tai is never alone. He may have his own personal demons...but he is my brother and will at the least always have me."

There is an uncomfortable silence, the man next to you entirely unresponse for a few long moments. Finally, he speaks deliberately and without warning. "...I believe you misunderstand me, Amon Shuu. You can do whatever you please...but in the end, your fate will be the same. You can choose to put faith in such optimistic garbage...but in the end, the lofty hopes and dreams you hold such stock in will always come crashing down. In this world, our greatest, happiest dreams and wishes will always be denied existance."

"Perhaps man is but an insignificant drop...but even the ocean started with one drop."

At this the man gives an uncharacteristic chuckle of sorts, before turning and beginning to walk away. "I don't think we'll be able to see eye-to-eye after all, Amon Shuu. At least, not if you cannot manage to grow up."

"I've noticed you watching. What do you want with me?"

The white-cloaked figure stops temporaily. Turning back to you, you see a single, red eye burning with inhuman anger from within the black shadows underneath the hood. "The girl traveling with you."

"What do you want with Rin?!"

At this the figure stops, the spot of red disappearing for a few seconds as he closes his eyes.
So...it is true. She is...alive.

"I watched Rin Nohara die with my own eyes. Who is the girl traveling with you? She cannot be Rin."

Rin...died? No, that doesn't make sense. "What are you talking about, of course she's Rin! She's been alive and fine!"

Nurses begin to glance at the two of you in the back as you make more noise. The man's red eye narrows, his expression unviewable. Without another word, he turns and strides out the back of the tent. Caught off guard, you immediately spring to action just as his body passes through the back flap. Just feet behind him, you're chasing on his heels with hand outstretched just as the flap closes in the space between you. You throw it open...

...to see the open, night air. No trace of the man can be see, no matter which way you turn to check.

He's disappeared into thin air.

The meeting...everything you've witnessed and dealt with today...everything weighs heavily on you yet again.
Isn't Tsunade's training enough for you to have to manage?

Who...who was the man? What was he here for?

Was he actually interested in Rin? The...the demon? What had he meant about Rin dying?

You know, I never understood how people are all like "immortality is the best thing ever" and think death invalidates everything you do. Nothing you accomplish has any meaning if you live forever and do whatever you want forever. It's like how nothing can be good without something being bad. Yeah I get it's fiction but I can never understand the reasoning behind it.

>"Yeah dude I just finished mastering every musical instrument ever!"

You need guidance with this. In the past, your teachers have counseled you in times of stress and conflict. Well, you say that...but the only other teacher you have ever had before Tsunade was Myatsuu. Who is to say Tsunade will act the same? The Goblet, Tai's words, the stranger...is it realistic to believe she will even understand these things, let alone be able to offer advice?

Pushing the pacing thoughts out of your mind, you head towards the one place you would immediately think to find her...

As you reach the bar you'd drank at before with your new teacher, your efforts are met with immediate success. Tsunade is sitting at the same table as before -alone this time, though. She hardly notices you approach as she stares dazedly into her drink.

"Tsunade-sama, I...I need your help. Maybe not your help, but at least some counsel, please."

Her eyes narrow as she looks up to see you standing over the table anxiously. "I told you to go to sleep! You're just asking to get disciplined."
She pauses, withdrawing uncomfortably a bit and eyeing you up and down as if you suddenly grew another head. "...you're not one of those weirdos who enjoy that sort of thing, right?"

"Tsunade, please. I just need your mentorship."

She looks at you curiously before nodding. "You can have it- start talking. You won't get much rest at this rate."

Beginning with the Goblet, you inform your teacher of all the events following, including Rin's healing and Tai's alleged child. She listens with surprisingly rapt attention despite her obvious inebriated condition. On a whim, you take out the figurine of the woman and show it to Tsunade. Her eyebrows raise suggestively. "Oh? So my student is an artistic pervert, after all?"

"I-I'm not a pervert!? It was Tai's! Look, do you know this woman at all or not?"

Tsunade slips out an uncharacteristically girlish giggle on seeing your flustered frustration. Catching herself, she coughs and puts her most serious expression back on, shaking her head. However, you finally tell her of the masked man and his reference to Rin. Tsunade stops mid-drink, face frozen in a wide-eyed expression of horror. She slams the glass back to the table with a fistful of currency, cursing under her breath. She stumbles out of the booth, still stringing together ingenious snippets of profane vocabulary. You blink in confusion as she shuffles past you, grabbing you once again by the scruff of your robe as she does so.

"You fool! You didn't think to check on Rin? Did you seriously think hes wouldn't immediately go after her when he literally told you that was what he was interested in?!"

You stumble into the streets, though Tsunade hardly needs any support as she barrels in the direction of Rin's room with you on her heels.

You race towards Rin's room as a creeping panic overcomes you. Your feet pump even faster with the dawning realization of your colossal error.

Rin is in trouble.

Overtaking Tsunade's own galloping pace, you bolt across the town and towards the lodgings you, Rin, and Yoru share. You dash through the door and past the counter with the receptionist, who calls out to you as you pass. "Hey, monk! Your friend with the mask stopped by asking about your girlfriend!"

His voice trails off as you continue your breakneck dash through the halls, seeing Rin's door slightly ajar at the end of it.
No! You'd made a promise to keep her safe! You will keep her safe, you'll be there for her!

You throw open the door in a burst of emotion and adrenaline. "RIN! I'M COMING-"

The room goes silent as you stop mid-sentence. You and Rin lock eyes. Her face is the picture of pure surprise as she stands frozen in place, in the midst of dressing into her sparse nightwear. Her face goes beet red as she finally processes who just burst through her door, yelling...
Almost in tandem, your face gets hot as you too realize the extent of the scene.

The silence, so tense that it could snap, manages to carry on between the two red-faced teenagers for an awkward amount of time before you finally manage to note that Rin is indeed alone and fine in her room.

If...if somewhat less than modest.

Rin's mouth opens and closes like she's trying to say something, but can't seem to find the words before Tsunade bounds into the room from behind you. She stops in her tracks as well as she looks around the room, to Rin, back to you, and then back to Rin again. She grits her teeth in annoyance as for the third time today, you are grabbed by the collar and dragged out of the room without so much as a single protest.

Rin stares at the two figures retreating down the hall as she covers herself up instinctively. She can only mutter in confusion as she hears the telltale crashing sounds of Amon being thrown fotrcefully into his room.

"C-Coming...Amon...what?"

-----------------

You awake uncomfortably the next morning in more ways than one. Surprisingly, you manage to beat out your own teacher once again...though the relief wouldn't last long. Within the hour, your door would be broken down into nothing but splinters by a significantly more annoyed Tsunade.

Thus began the next several days of training without rest or respite. You dodged, you ran, you resisted...but ultimately each of the next four days ended with you only steps away from being in a bodybag. You swear you caught glimpses of Rin and Shizune in the city at points. Unfortunately, you hardly had the time to look...or at least, Tsunade didn't leave you with any.

Strangely, you haven't seen Asa or Yoru. They seem to have almost disappeared entirely.
Occasionally at points during these days, Shizune would amble into your training to deliver news of Tai's ongoing recovery to Tsunade- who in turn would spare you details.

You have not seen the masked man since the incident, though an nagging feeling in the back of your head tells you he isn't gone yet.

After several hell-like days of training, your consistent efforts (or more likely, your pain) pacify Tsunade. Like before, she ends somewhat early...though this time with a deliberate glare and warning to not be an idiot. Your training in Taijutsu undoubtedly begins soon.

You have time for yourself once more.

You opt to meditate this time around. Since the incident you've been left wondering if something has been muddying your thoughts. For some reason, you can't seem to think clearly...no, that's not it. You can think clearly, it's just that you haven't been focusing on the correct things. If you'd been thinking straight in the first place, you would have immediately went to check up on Rin. If you'd been focused on what was important, you'd never had gotten in that barside brawl with Tsunade. If you had been focusing...maybe Tai would still be...

Whatever it is, something is bothering your thoughts but you can't put a finger on it. Leaving the city's winding, criss-crossing roads, you find yourself outside in the heavily vegetated outskirts. The name Konohagakure, the "Village Hidden in the Leaves", is beginning to make much more sense to you the longer you spend in the Land of Fire. You make your way into the sparsest section of the forest you can see, noting the setting sun slightly overhead.

It's getting dark...maybe it's time for a bit of a night light?

You bite your thumb as you push aside the brush with your free hand, noting the change to rocky soil under your feet.

"Ninja Art: Summoning Technique!"

With a delicate *poof*, a glittering, oversized goldfish pirouettes into the air in front of you. Immediately Goldie flutters towards you, brushing across your shoulders. "She has missed you so much, Amon-kun! She thought you had grown weary of her...such a surprise leaves her overjoyed!"

True to her own words, the fish can't seem to stop dancing through the air around you in her own, fishy way. You hold out your han to pet her smooth, golden scales. "Sorry Goldie, things have been pretty crazy. You know I could never leave you behind."

At this the fish gives a cry of joy in her velvet, feminine voice. "Oh, Amon-kun, you treat her too well, you do!"

As you continue forward the rocky soil turns to plain stone. Your feet crunch against the gravel and stone underfoot and the plants clear, leading you to the side of a broad cliif- setting in the distance, the sun's orange glow cloaks the area.

Perfect.

You crouch down, sitting in the familiar cross-legged meditation stance all too familiar to you at this point. You take several long, deep breaths as even Goldie's low chatter dies to a murmor...then silence.
Another deep breath.

The world seems to breathe with you as a soft wind caresses the cliffside with your exhaling breath.

Time seems to stand still around you...the only motion you can feel is that of the winding thoughts inside your head.

The mantras...you remember them all too well. Not too long ago a the Fire Temple, you had remembered one Myatsuu had recited long ago when carrying you on his back to the Water Temple.

Mantra of the Ninshu: Strength of the Spirit

You recite the sacred words in your mind to the rhythm of Goldie's circling body. The world goes quieter...quieter...then silent, as the only thing you can hear are the words of your teacher, your friend ever reverberating in your mind. The nostalgic smell of salt and sea foam fills your nose as you pray. You can almost feel the ocean's breeze across your body...

"Ah...napping again, Amon?"

The familiar, jovial old voice seems to wake you from your reverie. The grains of sand beneath your feet are brushed aside as you jump to attention. "M-Myatsuu! I-I was meditating is all!"

His old, gray eyes twinkle ever so subtley as he chuckles. "Ah, of course...quite the deep meditation you were in, hm? You know, between the breeze and the waves I would always fall asleep when I tried to meditate out here. It seems my confidence in you was well-placed!"

You scratch the back of your shaven head. Nothing really gets past this man, does it? Myatsuu shakes his head, a broad smile across his face. "Come, let's meditate somewhere more...awakening, hm?"

With a sigh, you leave the admittedly comfortable spot near the beach and follow your aged master as he shuffles across the grounds...and past the meditative gardens. You note this in confusion, where exactly did he mean to meditate? If Myatsuu had noticed your perplexed expression, he certainly didn't acknowledge it. He continues forward unperturbed. Finally...you understand what he had in mind as you approach your destination...

Myatsuu's own favored location, his overgrown, mossy meditation room in the heart of the temple. You've never been here before. You immediately note that it looks like it could have been a plot of land cut right out of the forest itself. Shrubs, moss, and even a medium sized tree accompany the vegetation in the room. Myatsuu crosses the dirt floor to the room's center, where a mound of packed earth stands elevated like a natural dais. He beckons for you to join on the ground in front of him as he takes the familiar meditative position.

The room is entirely silent as you struggle to pray. You can feel the daylight overhead as you try to mentally recite the mantras.

"Amon...do you believe we have souls?"

The question strikes you off-guard and you can't help but reflexively sputter. Myatsuu seems to disregard this as he continues meditating in the room, his eyes closed in thoughtful reflection as he asks again. "What would you even describe a soul as? You cannot touch, see, or hear it. Indeed, without truly defining it in our senses, we cannot truly say what it is we believe in, can we? But say you suddenly woke up in a different body one day, with a voice, walk, and visage that simply was not 'you'. How would you definie yourself?"

Even in the long moment of silence that follows, no answer comes to you. Like that day many years before you remain quiet...and listen.
And that is completely fine with the Old Man.

"Perhaps it is our own, unique energies that make us who we are as individuals? Perhaps our own sources of chakra and our soul are connected...or even the same? Perhaps I'm just a rambling old man, lost in thought."

He laughs heartily as the room glows a yellowish-red under the sun of high noon. Shaking his head, he turns to look at you. His normally jovial face now bears an expression of honest, childish curiosity as he leans over and asks once more, a bit more uncertainly this time.

"Would it be crazy of me to think so? Perhaps all living things have a soul...or perhaps the 'soul' we think of isn't so mystical after all? Amon, I must admit to you now that I have very little- if anything- to teach you. What we discuss hereafter is not known to either of us, or anyone as I suspect. We shall advance our understanding of this reality, of the Ninshu...together, my student."

Yet again, ignorance is so carelessly trasmitted like a disease.

The familiar, muscled figure strides past you and across the meditative chamber. Myatsuu's eyes never twitch from his own proud gaze set upon you, as he seems to completely ignore the intruder's entrance. The ancient monk, clothed in tattered robes of ruby red, stands next to your old teacher, shaking his head in disapproval all the while. He turns to gaze upon you...his eyes once more trailing an empty, all-consuming red vapor from the depths of his own body.

Ah, a revelation! What your old fool of a teacher failed to ever discern...

Another monk of the Water Temple hurries into the room, whispering something into Myatsuu's ear. Your former teacher raises his eyebrows in surprise. He stands and walks towards the exit, but stops by your side before leaving. "It seems we have a guest...a visitor from Konohagakure, of all places. I will return shortly, Amon."

You turn to see the wraith calmly assume Myatsuu's position on the earthen dais, looking down expectantly to you.

...was the truth, beyond the facades of philosophy and faith.
The strength I wield, the wisdom I possess, the powers I freely control...I KNOW YOU'VE THOUGHT ABOUT THEM, CHILD.
MINE IS THE KNOWLEDGE THAT SEPARATES THE DIVINE FROM MORTALS.
I SHALL OFFER ONCE MORE, AND NOT AGAIN...
...TOGETHER, WE CAN GRANT PARADISE TO ALL. I CAN SHOW YOU, TEACH YOU, ELEVATE YOU...TO A HIGHER PLANE OF UNDERSTANDING.
WE CAN SAVE YOUR LOVED ONES, TOGETHER. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GRANT THEM THE GIFT OF THEIR DREAMS BECOMING A REALITY.
ACCEPT WHAT I OFFER BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. BEFORE YOU TOO LOSE WHAT CANNOT BE REPLACED.
ACCEPT MY TEACHINGS, MY GIFT...AND I WILL EXPLAIN THE MYSTERIES WHICH LINGER IN THE DEPTHS OF YOUR MIND. I CAN TEACH YOU SECRETS OF THE NINSHU, OF CHAKRA ITSELF, SO THAT WE MAY CUT OUR EARTHLY TETHER...
...AND TRULY BECOME ONE WITH ALL.

the whole bishamon possession thing kind of fails as a plot point if there's no strong incentive to accept his help for anything. kind of a wasted opportunity for interesting conflict

I'd say there will be quite a few incentives to accept in the near future.

Gotta let you know your options beforehand though
>>
>>963282
I guess it's sort of a moot point anyway since I expect the players to reject him no matter what every time
>>

I missed the vote but I'd refuse because Bishamon can't see the world from our point if view only his which we perceive as warped and he probably sees ours as weak or incomplete. If we can ever reach an understanding I can see working together with him. In the long run though I want to see if we can figure out a way to seal him into something like the beads without killing us or finding a way to stop him from escaping if we die

If Amon dies Bishe dies with us. We found that out when Amon technically died and then got better.

You jump to your feet, expressively angry for the first time in a long while, and shout at the intrusive spirit.
"In other, less insane, words, suck everyone up and essentially kill them...like you've been trying to do the entire time you've sought to steal my body? No thank you. I would never and will never accept your lies, Bishamon. I will not betray my teacher; I will not betray my friends; I will not betray my beliefs! When will you realize that your efforts are pointless?"

Your fists are clenched in anger, waiting for the evil monk to laugh or condescendingly retort. But to your own astonishment, neither of those things happen. The wraith's head droops towards the ground, eyes pinched forcefully shut.

Bishamon looks almost...like he is grieving...?

...pointless, you say? Perhaps...from your perspective, it may seem to be so.
You have not partaken of that bitter taste,LOSS, to date.
From your perspective, from your own ignorance, would such a goal seem pointless.

You only blink in confusion at the sudden turn of face from the wraith seated cross-legged on the dais in front of you.

A man's unique essence, their 'soul', is irreparable. All beings are fundamentally composed of chakra at their core, but...
...there was something else there -something elusive, irreplicable even to I.
My brother, Kannon, was a saint among men. His actions, his words, are what inspired me to delusions of grandeur: peace, prosperity, faith, and virtue. Yet...
...he was still struck down, torn apart like a rapid animal into freshly bloodied meat. There was not even enough left to heal.
In the years that passed, I would find this story so readily repeated in the midst of war...for purposes of honor, wealth, and power. Things so irreplacable, human lives, were sacrificed for things so fleeting...
....never to be heard from, laughed with, comforted, held...ever again.
I attempted to recreate the lives of those lost...but would find that my creations were nothing more than flesh-bound puppets, barely enough to be considered even mockeries of the lives they were designed to reincarnate.
What had once made them human...what had once made them whole...was lost, forever. Their souls, their very essence, recycled...to be killed and consumed within the tides of the Ninshu for eternity.
What I offer is not pointless death, destruction, and gluttonous carnage.
What I offer...IS REBIRTH. A world born anew, the souls of our fallen loves given yet another chance in a new reality, one governed by VIRTUE AND JUSTICE. A world governed by an ABSOLUTE POWER, a deity that shall uphold law and moral order...that shall end all wars before they even begin. I will safeguard the new genesis, fueled by the current abomination of life.

Determined, you remain firmly fixed...breathing deeply into further meditation in hopes to dispel this vision of sorts. You intended to calm your mind and answer your questions, not raise more.

THE NINSHU IS NOT A BED, BUT A GRAVE. I WILL BE THE ONE TO END THE CYCLE.
I WILL ERASE THE STAINS OF THIS EXISTENCE AS AN ABSOLUTE POWER. EVIL WILL BE CLEANSED FROM THE NINSHU.
There will come a day when your naive ideals crumble, when your faith turns to ash in your heart. Know that when that day inevitably comes you will finally find truth in my words, boy...
...and it shall be you who realizes the pointless futility of your efforts.

As you close your eyes, the black depths of your mind once more mildly greet you. Just as quickly it had come, the memory has passed. But you are left with questions about what has happened up to now, now clearly defined in your thoughtful reflection.

>Something has been bothering you about Rin. The masked man, the demon, the ninja from Kirigakure...and how she had apparently "died" before...
>Something has left you off-put about Yoru's actions. For some reason, you are left untrusting of your companion in regards to something...who else have you met from Konoha besides him and Rin?
>Asa...she had wanted to talk to you, but that may be an unlikely occurance now. Why has she acted the way she has? Why did she leave Kumogakure?
>Tai's past and his life before the Temple...how did he get there? Did Tai actually have a...a child?
>The Goblet seemed familiar in a way, though incredibly fearsome in its own right. Although...it didn't seem evil, and even Bishamon seemed to accidentally slip apprehension about the object
>Myatsuu...had he truly died? Did he teach you everything he knew or...could he have perhaps discovered something greater in his last days?
>You hadn't thought about it for a while, as in fact you haven't necessarily needed to. It hasn't seemed like an immediate concern, but how was old Hiragon connected to all this?

Well shit, tally that up with the rest of Red's spelling errors

Bishamon seriously forgot about the Water Temple and literally everyone that lived there?

Stealing memories that aren't ours is bad, m'kay?

There also aren't any spaces around LOSS in the line I quoted.

Bishamon is just going to be condescending no matter what you've been through.

'cause he's totally "been through worse" m'kay?

Also, +1 on the spelling/formatting error list...

Well, looks like we got a 4-way tie.

I'll return...eventually? I may or may not fall asleep. If so, I'll post the update and call it a thread before we can finally get on to thread 15 halfway point/climax/happenings
