You are out of breath, and have been walking through the woods for nearly two days now, having left your own home only days prior after that happened. The green of the trees above finally gaining some more colour as the sun comes up from the horizon out of your sight. Only seconds after you start to think that you can finally see more clearly you pass several more trees and lay your eyes upon a small clearing, within which lies the corpse of a small wolf, perhaps even a small dog, you don't know for certain. But what you do know is two things, the first is that it is food for nourishing yourself, and the second is that it is a corpse ripe for you to raise from the dead, with your current knowledge of the necromantic arts you wouldn't be able to raise it even if it was a fist taller or longer, simply because you haven't studied or practiced enough.

Thinking of such you begin to slowly retrace your thoughts of what happened prior. Between two and three days ago, you went about your business as usual when unexpectedly that thing happened.

>A) Your lesser creations such as undead spiders and vermin were found out by the local authority and they were about to trace them back to you. You fled as soon as you heard of this, fearing for your own life.
>B) You killed a man, in the hopes of learning more about the body, the soul and the necromantic arts. The body was found and you were bound outside the village to be left to the wolves, or whatever was out there. You managed to escape with some hatred in your heart.
>C) A so-called 'Holy Order' sensed your powers in the area you lived in. Your home, and those of your neighbors has been burned. Most of those who you know are dead, and you are most likely still being followed.

While I do see that there's a Lich Quest just around on the front page, it's been around for the same time as the idea has been in my own mind, so I hope it's not too similar (since I only read the first post, and they seemed nearly identical, sadly).
Additionally, in July this year I had several civ/quests going, I am sorry for dropping them. I still have the files and I am thinking of maybe picking those up at some other time.
Lastly, I have a friend who will also post, since we're on the same wifi we share an IP, and thus code.

>A so-called 'Holy Order' sensed your powers in the area you lived in. Your home, and those of your neighbors has been burned. Most of those who you know are dead, and you are most likely still being followed.
>>
Yes, a so-called 'Holy Order' sensed your powers. Those hypocrite barbarians have no sense of what is right and what is wrong. Their so-called 'god' is merely a representation of hypocritical ideals used to right whatever cruelties they commit and extort the masses from their hard earned money, and in some cases their lives! They are even worse than those who call themselves druids, at leas their ideals make some sense, let live what lives, and let die what needs to die. Sadly none of that is worth anything to you, as you found the dead ever so appealing ever since you were little.

You approach the dead wolf, it's blood no longer flowing from its body as it bears marks of being pierced by a horn of sorts, as well as blunt trauma, you assume it and its pack tried too hard to hunt a deer, or other horned animal, and this one got the short straw, got hit, injured and died. But one man's trash is another man's treasure. You have your knife and cut open the belly and take out the innards, they are neither edible nor useful on an undead servant. Following this you slice off pieces of flesh and begin eating them as such, too afraid to light a fire in fear of the those barbarians still being near.

After you've had your fill you begin to prepare to turn the dead corpse into a moving one, you take its blood and draw several diagrams in the moist grass and dirt surroundings. Not because they are needed, but because they simplify the process, after which you begin chanting for the same reason. You know you don't need to, but all of it takes so much mental effort and drains you so much more if you don't do either one of them, and without one or the other you can't even do this, collapsing with a headache at the spot. Twenty minutes after you begin the ritual, you succeed. You've bound a soul to you, and to the body of the dead. The corpse shows signs of moving, and you slowly begin giving it mental orders to let the soul get used to the new body.
> -5 Mana
>Mana: 5/10
>Gained: 1 Undead Wolf
You expect to take at least ten minutes to make the soul get used to this new body, this is the first time you've raised such a large creature, the largest previous being your neighbor's cat, which was eaten by a stay dog the day after. Your thoughts begin to wander as you do the practiced orders to get a soul used to a body. You think to yourself, what are your thoughts of the world, what is your final goal, and what is your ultimate destination using necromancy.

>A) You hate the world of the living, and would not want anything less than utterly overrun it with undead. The 'Holy Order' was right to chase you out, and if they hadn't done it now, you would've killed everyone years from now, in your first steps to power.
>B) You don't care for the world of the living, your only desire is to learn more and not be bothered by others. Living for the sake of just living is nothing for you, your goal is to become an un-ageing undead to continue studying, a lich or a vampire seems good, perhaps something else you just haven't heard of yet.
>C) You actually like the world of the living, but the world of the living does not like necromancy, and as such the world of the living needs to change. Your goal is to use undead for the sake of good, without initially showing as undead of course. How could a tireless workforce which needs no maintenance be bad? Except the smell, of course.

Truly the world of the living does not interest you in the least, unlike magic and necromancy, the latter of the two which comes to you almost naturally, though it of course still takes effort. You only desire to learn more and not be bothered by all that nonsense which the living need to deal with, like sleeping. Perhaps having your most advanced servants run errands for you, to collect tomes. Or even having adventurers come to you, offering tomes as payment for something that to you is a parlor trick. That is your desire, knowledge is power, and the world of the living is but a drag.

Your undead wolf seems to be getting used to its body and you have managed to get it to stand up, walk, and even make some sounds. And although its walking is still rather... off, it doesn't hinder it too much, and as such you set off, hopefully to find a place to restock, or some information on magic.

An hour passes, or so you think, and nothing much has happened, the trees are still as brown and green as before, and the only thing new is that your wolf can finally move more like a living one. You think back to where you came from, where did you live, what did the barbarians from the 'holy order' burn down.

>A) You lived in a small village where you learnt your craft on your own. All of it was burnt down, and all who you know you can assume to be dead.
>B) You lived in a small city called Lestern, your knowledge of necromancy was found through an outsider, though you appear to have become more skilled than them. Your block was burned down, and the rest of the town wouldn't dare resist the order.
>C) You lived in the outer parts of a larger city by the name of Saidale. Most of the city follows the Order, and when they called out to sense necromancy, the people in the city lit the fires before the order even had.

Ah yes, all of your previous home has been burnt down, and everyone you've ever known is most likely dead. Funny how things like memories become so hazy after an event as cruel as this. And even more so that you still have so many memories stuck in your head, you've never reminisced before, at least you think you haven't.

As you guide your path through the foliage for yet another hour, your undead wolf following you several meters behind in case you find some more friendly travelers, you suddenly hear sounds. A high pitched voice, or so you think initially. As you listen you slowly hear it becoming more clear. It's a squeaky voice, though it sounds angry, or possibly complaining, in a language you can't understand at all.

You hide in some thick bushes with your undead wolf close by, foreign languages are never good as they hold numerous dangers. The voice slowly comes closer and it turns out it's two voices, you don't hear it clearly quite yet, but for a little moment you get a peek. Two green-skinned goblins in the distance, walking in your direction. If they don't go somewhere else they will undoubtedly stumble into you, you have enough time to think, but you have to act decisively.

You decide to ambush them, you order your servant to hide behind you, and you yourself hide yourself more firmly in the bushes, ready to jump up at a moment's notice and keeping an eye on the two goblins who are only slightly taller than you are as you are crouched down. You feel it's time to use one of two magics which you have thought of, but had very little practice with: Death grip. You prepare your inner being to channel death energy from all around onto your palm, making sure that none of it touches you, because as bad an effect as it has on your targets, the same it can have on you.

Seconds feel like minutes as you wait for the goblins to come close, and as you wait you can see that one has a sharp stone, while the other has a stick as large as your forearm. Of the two you feel that the one with the sharp stone is the obvious threat, a child can punch you all it wants, but once it cuts you open you can bleed out. Ever so slowly they move closer, the leaves covering you, you heart racing and your breathing heavy, but controlled. The moment approaching you order your beast to attack the one with the club while you jump for the throat of the one with the sharp stone.

You push off, flinging yourself at the little green thing. Your wolf is faster than you and races past you to do the same to the far goblin, distracting the 'sharper' one from you as it tries to attack your wolf rather than you, which is a lucky break for you, as having a crude knife in your arm could kill you. Your hand connects and you trigger your spell. The goblin finally notices you as a bigger threat rather than the familiar wolf but it's already too late for it as you feel the death energy entering its body while it yells out a scream in both anger and fear.
> -2 mana
>Mana: 5/10

"GRYYYKKKKK" it screams out as life leaves its body, the knife which it decided to turn towards you losing its speed as the goblin no longer has the power to. In front of you you see the wolf hanging on the leg of the other goblin before it's jaw gets knocked loose, freeing the other goblin. You release the goblin in your hand, leaving a, to others, sickening black print on the throat of the dead goblin. Blood flows from the leg of the living goblin as it sees it's lifeless kin drop to the ground. It yells out "GOO...." as it appears to be forcing itself to overcome its fear, but directly after the yell it realizes that no such courage exists within it and it turns to flee, throwing it's stick at the wolf who tries to catch it, to no use of course, as it bounces off with a hollow-sounding thud. Your servant stands there on its four paws, awaiting orders.

We have enough trouble right now without inviting a goblin pack to hound us.

When we're done, we should raise the goblin and have it and our wolf stand watch while we rest.

>>
>>965552
Lets not raise the goblin then and just the death bolt.
>>
>>965570
The goblin isn't so much of a threat that we need to waste magic on it. If we really don't want to chase it down, we can send the summon that we already have to do its job.

Raising the goblin will be a big boon for us, if we can manage it.

RAISE THE GOBBO!

>>965584
I can accept this. We could have two goblins and raise one later, but we could also be avoiding a counter-ambush or something.

Leaving this goblin could also lead to a counter attack later unless we leave immediately

Go for it. Most QMs do a time limit thing anyway.

That doesn't mean I agree with the decision we're making, but that's how quests work.

>>965543
You decide there's no need to dirty your hands on manual labor, or even fixing the jaw of your previously raised wolf. Instead you decide to kill it from a distance, death bolt seems appropriate, and it's good to see if it's as strong on a goblin as it is on a spider. Keeping the goblin in sight you pose, quickly collecting your thoughts and forming a ball of death energy in front of you. As soon as it's formed in full, it flings towards the goblin just as it turns around to look. The bolt is like a liquid or a gas that hits it's face before it almost seems alive, finding it's way into its mouth, nose, ears and even eyes, flowing like smoke.
> -2 mana
> Mana: 3/10

The goblin spooked, and attempted to yell out, but no sound came, it's face not pained at first, slowly becoming more pained as it continued to try and run away. Its hands grabbing to its face, then it's throat, then tapping furiously on it's chest, grabbing and clawing before it falls over, dead. You leave it be for now and further focus on the dead goblin directly in front of you. You feel rushed with power. This is the first time since you decided to push your limits that you cast this many spells in one day, and with that, this many different spells. You order your undead wolf to stand guard and defend you before you begin to raise the goblin.

You once more begin using the blood of the dead in front of you to write down an aide, and half an hour later you begin your chant, guiding whatever energy in you to guide a soul to the body. The body is freshly dead, so fresh that you feel as though you may have gotten the original soul bound to you, to return it to the body. It struggles, and you feel your control over the spell weakening as your headache of casting rises.

You sense your mana desperately low, but force yourself onward. Your breathing becomes labored, your vision blurry at first, but soon it becomes more and more dark in front of your eyes. Pushing yourself even more to complete it you feel rushed by your own life force clashing with the death energy you wield. Exerting your will upon it to the absolute maximum your chanting wavers slightly, but doesn't lose it's clarity, and soon after, you finish, completing the ritual.

>Gained: Blood magic
>Gained spell : Blood drain (1 mana, low damage, low self-heal, melee-ranged, varied effect dependent on range)

Close to passing out from pain alone you lie there, not bleeding, but all of the blood in your body exerted. You're not certain, but you feel as though you begin to understand blood better, its essence and it's position in using magic. The vampires of legends and tales were able to completely rejuvenate themselves by draining a single body of blood, and then use that power to slaughter villages, or conquer damsels, or the reverse of course. Even a single is rumored to be able to wake a vampire of legend from a death-like sleep, and grant it to beyond-human powers. Right now however you only want to feel better, as the headache, and other pains, of overexerting yourself simply don't seem to go away. You sense your awareness drifting away, and as a final act you order your newly raised goblin to defend you alongside your wolf. You pass out.

You awaken from light hitting your face, the sun high in the skies you still feel horrible, but your mind is more collected than before, and you sense the slightest scrap of mana back in your grasp. You slowly get up and look around only to find your surroundings the same as before you passed out, though your wolf seems a slight more decayed, at least you think it does, you're not exactly certain of it. The rumbling of your stomach reminds you of the horrors of mortality, and motivates you twofold, once to look for food, and once to continue your journey.

Rock bottom is a dead animal, like a rat, this can be considered low-class. Goblins -are- intelligent, technically.
Writing A and C, because we can.

You decide to try out your newfound powers on the recently-dead (well, somewhat) goblin. He's not bled dry, as his wound began to scab before he died, but it won't be more than half a day from now that bugs will find it, or other creatures will try to eat it. You move towards the dead goblin and focus. Using a new magic for the first time is always a chore and requires utmost focus. The excitement needs to be tamed lest it effect the focus on using the magic.

You recall the enlightenment you had before passing out, you feel the blood in your body beat once more, its essence flowing through you. You reach out of your body, seeking the same essence. After some focus, and stepping closer, intimately closer to the point of almost hugging the body, you find a weak resonance with the corpse. Immediately you feel the instinctual urge to pull, but you realize you don't know how, or what. The next few minutes are spent searching, focusing your mana to finding what you need, then grasping it, and pulling it towards you. Eventually, you find what you are looking for.

Your mana grabs hold of that which resonates with the energy inside of you and pulls it closer, maneuvering through the body and eventually slipping out of the body through the wound in its leg. It floats slowly to you, a stream reaching towards your face as your pull guides it to your mouth, though your instinct tells you that it could just as easily enter any wound. It floats down your throat, invigorating you immediately. As though it were a drug of which you don't know the name. You close your eyes for a moment to revel in the feeling of pain leaving your body. But as soon as your eyes open you gaze upon the stream becoming black from the corpse, and that which is floating towards you being darker than you remembered. Immediately you stop your mental pull, allowing the blood and essence to drop.

You can only reason that whatever the black is, is what happens to blood once it comes in contact with death magic. Looking down to the body you feel that it would be a waste to leave it here for the animals, and thus you decide to raise it too. Well aware of what happened last time you first decide to spend your time in a different way, waiting for it to pass until you feel like you have enough mana. Looking around you see nothing, but after searching around you easily enough find some proverbial low hanging fruit which you climb a tree for, as well as some plants which you know are edible.

As you wait for your mana to refill you think of

Another close one, to be honest, I never expected this amount of attention. Writing B
>>
To spend time you begin to recall what happened when you overexerted your mana. Replaying it in your head you mainly recall being extremely focused on the task at hand, the you felt the mana leaving your body, but you still forcing yourself to finish the ritual. You recall the feeling of your life force fighting off the death energies used in the spell as whatever powers you managed to use slowly managed to persevere and finish what you started. You also remember each step of the ritual you performed, the steps you made, the chant you called, each of which replayed in your mind, you seem to gain some enlightenment about several things, but not enough to truly make a notable improvement on any of the things, even while contemplating them for several hours.

Your mana being refilled to the point that you once more feel comfortable to raise the dead, you've long since prepared the ritual, having used the blackened blood to write the runes. Your chants come natural and even the soul you called seemed to easily come to the body, and the process of making it used to the body seems unusually easy. However, as it is now, you feel as though you can't raise any more undead of this level, smaller things such as a rabbit or vermin should still be doable, but big things like wolves or goblins seem to cap at three for you, right now.
> -5 Mana
>Mana: 0/11
>Undead cap: 3 small undead, ???

The sun is visibly lowering, and you begin to feel restless even with your three undead guards, the two goblins you have instructed to wield their weapons, and now hold them. Somehow you feel as though the 'holy order' (ugh) has started following you, and you know that goblins hunt at night, this knowledge and feeling combined make you feel uncomfortable staying here and you set your sights on moving in the direction you've been going the past two days, hoping to find whatever can help you in your goals.
I don't think I'll post another tonight, and I'm honestly not completely sure if I'll post tomorrow, at the very most I'll end around the time I started today. Christmas is busy too, so if I don't post tomorrow it'll be either the 27th, the 29th, or maybe the 30th. But I'm not certain on any of it either way.

If you really want a choice to discuss overnight (to me overnight I'll give you the following)
Continue your journey until

I'm not that much into discord, while I do use it, I prefer the slow and steady pace of a board, despite the higher functionality of discord. Maybe I'll change my mind at a later time, but not right now.

You decide to continue your journey until you see a target for your blood drain, it doesn't have to be big you reason, a rabbit at least, nothing bigger. Night falls as you walk in front of your undead, their footsteps being definitely louder than yours, though the wolf fares better than the goblins in the stealth department. The lack of light makes it hard to maneuver the forest, but luck is on your side as the night is clear enough to have what you can call vision even through the roof of leaves.

Midnight arrives, or so you think, as you continue to make your way. You've heard the sounds of animals rushing past you multiple times already, but none of these times had you noticed them before they had noticed you. Another hour passes as you begin to feel tired from the travel when all of a sudden you hear... soft chirping, as though from baby birds. You look up and around, and eventually land your eyes upon what seems to be a nest. A bird would be exactly what you need, the size of a rabbit, and even more, not aggressive.

You activate your blood drain, once more recalling the feeling of the essence of the blood within you, again seeking outside of yourself for resonance, this time finding a stronger resonance far easier than before, directly above you as you walked closer before. You focus, finding five sources of blood, two larger and strong, one of which slightly weaker than the other, and three smaller but no less vigorous than the first. You can only reason that it's a pair with a nest of three, and that one of the two is hurt, sick, or old, possibly something else.

You focus your senses on the second largest, not having dealt with a so-called 'fully living' target for your drain yet, repeating the magical motions which you had done before. Immediately you hear struggling, bawking and chirping like only a bird in pain can, the other bird also rousing from its sleep. You have very little trouble aside from the annoyance at the noise, to grab and drag the blood essence out, and after several seconds a small stream, or rather a thick thread flows out from the tree and down to you, which you consume without effort.

As you complete your mission you feel as though sleep begins to take hold of you, you need to quickly decide what to do before you lie down to the sweet embrace of sleep, of course you've already ordered your minions to stand guard for a safe night's rest.

>A) Drain the strongest source too, then decide what to do with the three little ones the next day.
(Take them with you, leave them to die, kill them and raise them, idc)

The reason I vote A, is because: You will still have the first dead bird, and the strongest one you will drain the blood off. So you can gain some more health, and then tomorrow you can even, if you want, raise 2 birds, or more...

With the grasp of sleep upon you, you realize that you still aren't fully healed, and that however much sleep might heal you, this is apparently far more effective than what you could ever hope for. Repeating your previous motions, this source of blood essence struggles noticeably more, although far from enough to refuse you your bloody healing. And with your will dropping its guard you fall asleep.

Waking up you find yourself, as expected, exactly where you were. Your first thought is that your wolf is slowly beginning to smell, and that the goblins never did smell well. As you rise, you begin to take inventory of your possessions, what you have, and what your minions have.

Inventory:
>Clothing (Travel-suited, dirty)
>Small knife (Sharp, -small-)
>Quality boots
>Flask (filled with water)
Minions:
>Undead goblin (sharp stone, blunt stick)

After having drunk most of what was left of your water you are left with what you need to do, and a moment to plan ahead.

After thinking about it for a moment, you decide to prepare the two dead birds for raising, and taking the baby birds with you, keeping them from the harm of not having any parents to care for them. And as such you set forth to prepare the ritual for raising the dead. During the preparations you find it rather hard to get enough blood from the dead birds to lay the runes, but it is only a slight deterrent. Finishing that you once more take the further steps, completing them without issues. The only issue you find is after finishing the rituals and you begin to accommodate the called soul, you apparently have no idea how flying works, and neither do the souls. After half an hour of work on each of the birds you give up, for now, and decide to move on, taking the three baby birds with you to care for, and maybe to learn how to fly from them. Or at least teach your undead birds to fly with them. With that you once more feel rushed to leave, insecure about the safety of the location.
>-9 mana
>Mana: 2/11
>Gained: 2 Undead birds (Tiny)

As you walk you find that the baby birds can actually care for themselves fairly well, although they still can't fly. You tried of course but they fell right back in your hands. Aside from that they seem to have a taste for the undead, clearly not caring that the dead flesh is moving or not, nor do your minions care for being picked at. Several more hours pass during which you continue to practice your birds their flying abilities, and improve slightly, they can now lift themselves off, and glide down, but flying is still not there, but you are certain you'll get there. You find a path that's obviously used, with shoe prints and tracks from a cart obviously visible in the walked dirt. The path is from the northwest, to the southeast, but having your mind set on avoiding civilization, at least for now, you continue your normal path eastwards, towards the still-rising sun.

Crossing the path you find that the woods on this side are easier to pass through, and while still untamed, the trees and bushes just seem that little bit more apart from each other, similar to how they were near the village you used to live in, making you think that the fields of the village the road leads to are nearby, possibly just around the bend.

Another hour passes and you pick some familiar herbs and greens on your path. The greens you eat, the herbs can be used as spices but little more, so a slight is missing compared to when you plucked them from the ground. You end up finding an interesting looking tree, hollowed with roots almost forming a path into it, high enough to stand in, and easily large enough to live in.. You imagine a druid might have rested here at some point, seeing as they like nature as much as they do.

We need to stop and think, decide on a goal for our travels. Immortality is good and all, but that's a goal that doesn't necessarily need travel to achieve, and keeping distance between us and the Holy Order could potentially be achieved without travel by way of a proper hiding place, and is not a terminable goal anyway.

We need to figure out what we want to do, and where we want to go to do it.

You decide to keep going until more near nightfall, keeping an eye out as usual for interesting and unusual things. You leave the unusual tree behind and set off and finding some food on your way past noon. As the sun begins it's way towards the horizon approximately two hours after noon, or so you think, the earth beneath you begins to shake. Softly at first but quickly the shaking becomes rather heavy. The trees creaking under the apparent pressure and wildlife making sounds as though they are dying. A single tree shakes so hard and even splits open, showing a crack in its bark. But as soon as the shaking came, so it stops, leaving the world waiting if or if not it would come again.

You regain your footing, having been thrown out of balance by the shaking, and move on, your undead still following and your flying undead getting ever closer to actual flight. If only you had some sort of sensory skill to actually see or know what your undead minions saw, if you had that then truly your minions would be of use. Another hour or so passes as you press on, eventually stumbling upon an area where you sense mana all around, is this one of those rumored "Ley lines"? You think so, the area even shows minor appearances of lights in the air, not too dissimilar to light-bugs. The density of mana seems to become even stronger further forward compared to where you are now, and you only wonder why no one is here, and why no one or nothing has laid claim to this area.

You decide to head further in with the intent of laying claim upon this area, whatever that might entail. The allure of a Ley line is one very few mages can resist, even those of legend often sought to find one. You keep yourself at high alert and your minions nearby and ready to defend you. Step by step you carefully proceed further in, the density of mana thickening slowly but noticeably. Unlike what you expect you don't see anything eye opening other than more wisps of light, as you've began to call them. No monsters or large creatures, nothing that has truly laid claim on this yet, which is odd considering what you've heard from travelers about ley lines. Wanted by all, both alive and dead, both monster and intelligent, simply for their allure and promise of power. Said to even allow those without magical powers use magic, at least in their presence.

Time once seems to pass ever slowly as your feet bring you into an increasing density of mana. The increase growing as you apparently get closer and closer to the center, after passing by yet another tree and bush you see what you assume to be the epicenter, a single uprooted tree from which you can sense an immense amount of mana being radiated. You almost rush towards it when all of a sudden you notice a single creature near it. A bear on its four legs, standing as tall as you, slowly making its way towards the same uprooted tree as you almost rushed to. It's appearance is fierce, though it doesn't seem magical in nature, simply a rather large bear. Though of course you aren't certain. It seems to wish to bathe in the mana, possibly grow stronger with it.

What do you do?
>A) Rush to the epicenter, you can't let the bear reach it before you do!
>B) Attack it, the Ley line is yours! (Choose tactics and spells. also roll 3d6+3 for combat)
>C) Leave, it's not worth the risk.

>>
You decide it's too dangerous to attack it head on, and too dangerous to just rush to the epicenter, so you decide on an in-between. Let your minions distract it while you rush towards the epicenter yourself. You order such and begin to run. Your wolf rushes the fastest with its four legs, its lower jaw still hanging strangely from its front side, clapping as it runs and calling the attention of the bear. Your two goblins, each carrying the slower and not truly flighty bird as well as a weapon, follow. You yourself focus on running, though you notice your physique not being up to par, as despite having taken plenty of rest for the past near-half a week, it has still worn you out to a degree.

You hear a typical, albeit low and loud, angry roar from the bear, and a slightly sickening crunching noise as you run. You turn your sights on the battle in the corner of your eye as you pass by and see that your wolf has it's neck hanging in an awfully strange angle as it continues to jump at and around the bear, as the goblins have taken to throwing the birds at the bear, while keeping a slight distance. Strange how these goblins are cowarding opportunists even in death, despite them following your orders, do mindless undead even think on their own? You're not certain, maybe they do.

As you hear another roar, you arrive at the epicenter of where the Ley line erupts from the ground, the entrance of the hole the eruption created. The mana from this place almost forms a taste in your mouth as you turn to look at the battle. Your wolf has fallen, it's neck apparently broken, possibly some more bones, and the goblins barely managing to... play catch... with the remaining bird undead, which keeps fluttering around the bear who seems distracted enough by this play.

The power you feel rushing in and through you is immense, what do you do

You feel somewhat enraged, possibly from the death of your first large minion, possibly from the invigorating feeling which you get from the mana passing through you. You decide that bear needs to be smitten, possibly even drained to atoned for its sin. Yes, draining it seems like a good idea. The huge amount of mana makes it easy for you to feel the resonance coming from the bear, you mentally grab and...

"SPLAT!", a liquid popping from an enclosed space can be heard as you see blood squirting from the bear's mouth, eyes, and several other spots on it's body including its armpits and chest. The immense amount of mana coursing through you and your spells easily forcing the effects of your spell upon the now dead bear. You sense that you have far more control over the blood essence than you had before, and seeing as you are as good as healed, you decide to practice, leaving the lifeless corpse behind.
>Blood magic 'level up'
>New spell: Manipulate blood (cost dependent on volume and location, effect dependent on blood and intent)

You practice some, forming the red essence into an orb, letting it flow around you in streams, and spreading it out like a veil. The mana from the mana well flowing through you, and you notice some of it concentrating into the blood as well, not as much as to cause worry, but it is certainly interesting.
>Gained: Dead Bear
>Gained: Empowered 'blood essence'

What is your next action, what to do with the remains of your (once more) dead companions, the remains of the drained bear, and what to do with the empowered 'blood essence'. And possibly what will you decide with your minions and the Ley line.

How about we experiment with the essence and divide it evenly between ourself and our minions. Depending on what exactly it does that is.
First test the blood essence on a bird, then a goblin, then on yourself.
Then raise the bear and give him some.

and something about souls/spirits at some point.

When really we can branch out to all aspects of death magic and beyond.

Well, one of the choices given in the beginning was a 'choice of morality', and the majority (I believe everyone at the time, but I'm too lazy to scroll back) picked the 'neutral' option.

While that did entail a quest for immortality and did not -exclude- the other (moral) options, I was going to write the personality more in the grey/white area, sort of "If you don't mess with me, then I won't have to mess with you". And have several more points where the players can decide their 'blacks and whites' in a moral sense to further specify where in that grey area they are. Hell, I believe I've not even specified the gender of our character yet, and I'm very happy with that to be honest, as it keeps decision making more... blind, as it were.

And to be fair, depending on what path we go on to gain immortality we may or may not need to push our morals south for the sake of progression, and I was hoping to be able to write all of our delicious moral dilemma and struggle. If our character is one to numb or cut off their morals for the sake of advancing their goals, or if our character is one to chose to go forth on the harder path and chose for their newfound relations over the temptations that daunt them. That, is one of the things I am hoping for to reach on a writefaggotry level in this quest.

Have a very merry Christmas, I'm off to my family.

Ah, true. So not really evil then.
Anyway, I was just thinking that Blood Mage was a bit misleading, so I was trying to think of a new name like ?? Mage Fugitive that more accurately described the situation.
