Far off, nestled in an otherwise small Japanese town lies the Dark Gate Academy. An institution of tremendous size, the Academy holds a long kept secret. Unknown to the outside world, this unseemly town is home to a tear in our reality. A gate between our world and a bizarre dimension known as the Darkworld. The inhabitants of this hellish world breach this gate and attempt to flood into our reality and spread throughout the world on a regular basis. However, the Dark Gate Academy is home to students of truly extraordinary abilities. The ability to sense the presence of these evil Darkworld creatures, and defeat them in combat, sending them back through the gate.

They cannot close the rift between our world and the Darkworld, but the students and staff of Dark Gate Academy have dedicated their lives to using their amazing powers to hold back the darkness that plagues our world, even if it costs them their lives. They have risen up to the challenge and in secret have become great heroic defenders of the world as we know it.

For many years, Dark Gate Academy has held back the forces of the Darkworld, kept this unspeakable evil contained within their walls. But a dark cloud approaches, and times are about to change. A new chapter in the tale of Dark Gate Academy is about to begin.

The ground continues to rumble beneath you. Tsuki and Taiyo are so far away, and yet you can feel their fighting from here... the presence, the raw power... just how strong are these two? Were they really this powerful the entire time, and they were able to keep it hidden? Tsuki always boasted and bragged that he was holding back in fights... but you figured it was just big talk from a cocky teenager. You never expected it to be true... especially not to this staggering degree. The rest of the group led by Saki eventually catch up to you as you stand in the plains with the angelic Eos. Chihiro is the first to react.

“Oh, and just who is this beautiful, busty beauty?” she gasps in amazement. “Did someone achieve their angel form? It looks marvelous!”

“Angel?” Eos asks in a graceful tone. “No, I am a demon.”

“A demon?” Saki asks, warily gripping her lance. “You don't look the part... and you're not attacking us...”

“Plus, she looks positively... heavenly!” Chihiro swoons. “Why Sayeka, she looks how you would as an angel!”

“I suppose that's flattering...” Sayeka gives a small smile.

“Nobody here is an angel,” Amaya sighs. “She's Taiyo's daughter, a demidemon.”

“Another demidemon?” Saki mutters. “This is getting weirder...”

“You sound disappointed Blondie,” a limping and injured Gado remarks. “You must really be lusting after that angel form.”

“I-I don't lust after anything!” Amaya blushes, before shamefully turning away from Gado.

Gado smirks. “Heh, sure you don't.”

“Regardless, I must join my father,” Eos nods. “I hope that our next encounter is a happy one.”

“Thank you for saving us,” Makoto smiles. “You... you really are an angel.”

Makoto blushes as he smiles at Eos, causing Chihiro to grab him and hug into his arm.

“Let's not get carried away now! There's plenty of lovely angels surrounding you already! There's the lovely lady Sayeka, myself...”

“Please let go of me,” Makoto mutters. “My point is that regardless of her apparent nature, your actions show that you're truly a pure soul.”

“Thank you,” Eos nods.

Eos flies off with tremendous speed, as Sae cracks her knuckles. “Hey, are we done talking here? Because I've got some demons that I wanna fill with steaming hot lead!”

Anri fills Saki and the rest on the information you learned from Eos moments ago, the fact that Taiyo and Tsuki were once the one Archdemon, split into two halves, and now the dark and light halves are fighting.

“We can't let them fight much longer,” Saki remarks.

“Indeed...” Sayeka explains. “I may not be able to see them in my visions, but I can see the results of this battle. The aftermath will be... devastating.”

“I don't think even they know the destruction they're causing...” Akuro mutters. “This power... it's really scary.”

Saki nods. “Exactly. We can't allow for this fighting to go on any longer. One way or another, we have to put a stop to it... I have my own ideas on how to handle the situation, but what are your thoughts, Kazuma?”

“Why do you always ask me about this stuff?” you question. “My advice can't be that helpful.”

“You knew Taiyo and Tsuki,” Saki explains. “And while Makoto is the head of your class, he's not much of a tactician. As leader of the club, your input is the most useful here.”

>The both of them are set in their ways. The only way to stop this is by fighting back.
>There's a chance we could reason with them, Taiyo especially. We should try that before anything else.

What are the chances that, appereance wise, Taiyo based his daughter in Sayeka? I guess Tsuki could have based his on Kiriko but he is the type that doesn't pay attention to the details.
>>
>>983055
That's actually a very interesting point. I could totally buy into that theory. Taiyo's kinda quiet about it, but he did show interest in Sayeka.

Tsuki on the other hand was kind of blatant about it.

>There's a chance we could reason with them, Taiyo especially. We should try that before anything else.

"Taiyo, huh?" Saki places her hands on her hips. "You really think he can be reasoned with to put a stop to this?"

You nod. "Tsuki's a completely lost cause, but Taiyo always came across as a pretty nice guy."

"It's true," Sayeka nods. "I've spoken to him in the past and he was... very kind."

Chihiro giggles. "He called her beautiful! It was was absolutely romantic, and I think that Sayeka has-Well, I suppose now isn't the time. We'll talk about it over tea, I promise."

"Plus Tsuki has always been very afraid of Taiyo," you explain. "I don't think that was an act from when they were pretending to be students. I think that Taiyo may be the stronger of the two by a wide margin."

"Judging by how easily Eos dispatched of Selene's creations, it's a likely assumption to make," Anri adds. "I feel that this conflict may be resulting from some reluctance to fight on the part of Taiyo, assuming the personality he presented himself with when we knew him to be genuine."

"I wouldn't hold your breath," Akio explains. "If a guy was hiding the fact that he's a demon, you can be sue that's nothing he said or did was genuine."

"What about Ryoji?" Hikaru remarks.

Akio shrugs. "Ryoji was a special case, he was just as clueless as the rest of us. This Taiyo guy has been actively deceiving you from day one-"

"He wasn't lying," Io interrupts. "His entire feeding the animals and being super nice thing? Not an act. It was genuine."

"What, were you one of his pals?" Akio asks.

Io shakes her head. "Nah, never really knew the guy. I just know a liar when I see one."

"Hey ape?" Kiriko asks Roka, still decked out in his stupid helmet. "You mind if I ask you something before we head out?"

"I am no ape!" Roka yells, cutting a dynamic pose. "I am the great and honourable Red Mask, defeater of evil and protector of the-"

"Cut the act for five seconds, you dummy..." Kiriko crosses her arms. "Just take of the helmet and talk to me, as Roka."

The Red Mask chuckles. "Why, the Red Mask's identity is a secret! I'll never reveal my true face! But if you need to talk to your friend, I think I saw him behind those bushes over there! I'll go fetch him!"

Roka runs off to the bushes as Kiriko lets out a sigh. "He just called himself my friend... oh crap, this is going to make this so much harder... why the heck did it have to be him? I was perfectly fine with him being just some dumb idiot I would argue with every day... and just when I was starting to enjoy those times, it has to be ruined by him... having a crush on me! This sucks!"

"You're really going to do this now?" you ask. "We're about to head into battle!"

"Which means I won't have a chance for another while!" Kiriko explains. "And I can't have it on my mind while we're fighting! I could get majorly distracted!"

Kiriko adjusts her pigtails and pats down her clothes. "Kaz... do you mind coming with me? I mean... standing at a distance, of course. But at enough of a distance to keep an eye on this... it would be good to have someone backing me up."

>I think this is something you should do on your own.

"Oh..." Kiriko sighs, deflated. She tilts her head back and takes a deep breath. "No... you're right, Kaz. I have to do this by myself... I just have to walk over there and let him down gently."

"You know, the thought makes me sick to my stomach, but you're not a little bit interested in Roka?" you ask.

Kiriko shrugs. "N-no... I mean, yes? I'm not sure what the right reply to that is, but my point is that I'm not interested. I mean, could you imagine? Me and the ape? It's silly, right?"

Thinking about it, it's not as silly as you would have though. The picture still makes you angry, but it's not a ill-fitting as you would have believed. "Yeah, silly."

Kiriko nods. "Yeah... I'll be back in five minutes. Have fun planning!"

Kiriko runs off, and in the distance you can see her approach a freshly unmasked Roka, who panics and tries to hide said mask behind his back... damn, he's an idiot. You're too far away to listen in on what's going on, but you see that Kiriko says something which causes Roka to turn red. A lot of awkward shuffling and some sudden yelling from Roka which you assume was his confession to her, and before you know it, Roka is sits on a rock, hanging his head low in defeat, while Kiriko holds his hand in a comforting display. Seems she was able to handle it well on her own.

"Kazuma!" Saki calls out, grabbing your attention once more. "We've decided on a way to approach this."

"Judging by the power and frequency of the earthquakes, we can determine that Tsuki and Taiyo are battling in this area," Anri explains as she places a circle on a folded out map in marker. She really does come prepared for everything, doesn't she?

"If we all tried to approach from the same angle, we could be devastated by a single wave attack," Saki explains. "It's better that we split into groups, hold up in positions just outside the area of battle, and wait for the right moment to intervene."

"Sayeka and I have already claimed Makoto for our group!" Chihiro explains, hugging into his arm.

Makoto raises an eyebrow. "Are you allowed to do that?"

"I can do anything!"

"You should probably join your brother then," Gado says to Amaya, "The two of you work great in tandem."

Amaya shakes her head. "Nonsense, you're still hurt, and I have the most powerful healing magic of all of us. I'm going to stay here by your side, for your safety."

"Admirable!" Kuin explains.

"Excuse me?" Amaya asks.

Kuin folds her arms. "It's admirable how much care you take to protect your superior!"

"Gado... isn't my superior..." Amaya explains.

Kuin chuckles. "Nonsense, of course he is! Gado is the most loyal guard of me, the benevolent dictator, making him my second in command! Everyone else is ranked below him!"

"She's trying to say she appreciates you patching me up," Gado translates.

"Take care Gado," Anri says. "I would stay behind with you, but-"

"You're more useful out there," Gado nods in understanding. "Don't you be worrying about me, brainiac. Just promise me you'll stay safe out there."

"I promise," Anri smiles, before the two share a kiss that causes Amaya to look down at her feet awkwardly.

"Now, we're splitting into small groups here, no more than five," Saki explains. "Any ideas on who you want with you?"

"I... I'll come with you, Kazuma!" Hanako smiles, clenching her fist with a rush of determination... before immediately taking a step forward, her foot hitting the end of a log and launching it upward, smacking her in the face and causing her nose to bleed.

"Um... maybe you should stay with Amaya..." Saki nervously giggles.

"Wow, you really want to bring the two of us along?" Mai smiles as she nudges Ukon's elbow. "I guess that means we really earned your support!"

You shrug. "Well... this is your first really dangerous mission, and I want to keep an eye on the two of you to make sure you're safe. I'm bringing Mayu and Risa along because they're two of the most capable people I know."

Ukon places his hands on his hips. "Well, if we haven't impressed you yet, we'll just have to do it on this mission! Let's march out!"

Mai and Ukon charge ahead as you let out a weary sigh. They don't even know where they're supposed to be going yet.

"They bother me," Mayu states bluntly.

"They can be a lot to handle," you admit. "Don't worry, they can handle themselves."

"I would hope so," Risa sighs. "I want allies, not kids to babysit."

Mayu bridges her fingers together. "It is good to protect others, you know."

"Yeah," Risa replies. "But it's still a burden. My only concern right now should be taking down Tsuki and stopping the destruction."

"Our original plan is to talk down Taiyo, remember?" you remind Risa.

Risa shakes her head. "That's Plan A. I've got a feeling Plan B is the most likely. In which case, I have to be prepared."

You catch up with Ukon and Mai and begin to trek through the forested area. Ukon and Mai can't stop talking, while Mayu and Risa don't start talking. It's pretty uncomfortable, but you find yourself a little relieved when Mayu begins to walk very closely beside you. "We were in a tough situation earlier," she mutters.

"Yeah... we really were," you chuckle in relief. "Good think Eos arrived when she did."

"What you said then... it struck a chord with me," Mayu explains. "Kazuma, after what I've done to you, I've owed you a debt greater than my life... but you made me understand something. You truly care for me, don't you?"

"Well... yeah," you shrug. "You're my friend. You're not my servant. You don't have to keep fighting for me out of guilt. We fight together, because that's what friends do."

"Yes, I see that now," Mayu nods. "I will never stop trying to make up for my transgressions, but I understand that the respect we hold for each-other is too much for me to offer you total servitude. You wish to serve me in turn, and I will not deny that right... because I care deeply for you as well, Kazuma."

"Thanks," you smile.

"When we are finished here..." Mayu mutters. "I would quite like to make you dinner."

"What are you, Io?" you laugh.

Mayu shakes her head. "I did receive the idea from her. As I understand, it is something that friends do for eachother."

You make your way to the spot you were ordered to camp out in, as you can see Tsuki and Taiyo from a distance, and... they aren't fighting. They're just standing there, meters apart from each-other, staring the other down as they... talk. You can hear what's being said... but you can feel the rumbling. This power, this energy... this is the kind of force they can unleash without even taking action? These two just went from scary to absolutely terrifying.

"Huh... it hasn't kicked off yet," Risa remarks. "Looks like they're just trying to intimidate each-other with their power. Hence all the radiant energy being let out... you know, I think if we took a shot at Tsuki from here, we could hit him."

"You really think one bullet could take him down?" you ask. "We'd just be exposing our location to him."

"You think he doesn't already know we're here?" Risa asks. "He's a demon god, he can probably sense us. And knowing Tsuki, he's relishing having an audience here. A bullet won't do much, but it can weaken him or at the very least distract him, which could make things a lot easier for us."

"Whatever you say," Risa nods, as she leans back against a tree. "I suppose it wouldn't help us that much anyway. With this kind of power, I can see the bullet being little more than a fly to him."

"Are you scared?" you ask.

"I'm intimidated," Risa explains. "But I'm not scared. Monsters don't scare me."

Now... you need to get close to Taiyo in order to talk him into ending this fight. If you approach from here, you should be able to reach him before Tsuki blasts you away. You slowly creep from behind the tree, with the other four following you close behind. You step out into the plains, and...

"Well, what do we have here?"

Crap. None other than Selene, Tsuki's daughter. You thought you had seen the last of her.

"I hope you weren't planning on interrupting!" Selene laughs. "The big fight was just about to begin. I'm not going to let you ruin my daddy's big moment!"

"Get out of the way demon!" Risa yells. "This is important! If they fight, everything around them will be destroyed in the process! They'll cause unbelievable destruction to the surrounding area!"

Selene gasps. "Wait, you mean there'll be a lot of death and destruction if they keep this up?"

"Yes!" Ukon protests.

Selene bursts into maniacal laughter. "All the better then! Now stop getting in the way!"

"You can't stop us!" you fire back. "We'll take you down if we have to!"

"Are you serious?" Selene giggles. "You do realise I'm ten times stronger than all of you put-together at the least? There's nothing you can do to hurt me, let alone my daddy! Compared to us, you're just ants trying to spoil a perfectly good picnic!"

"I've had enough of this," Risa mutters, loading her gun. "I can already see where this is going."

"That's right!" Selene laughs. "You're all going away!"

"Away?" you ask. "Away where?"

Before you can even finish that thought, Selene snaps her fingers, and you find yourself being enveloped in a black goo that rises up from the ground. When you awaken, you find yourself in a dark empty void with the others, only a simple door in the middle of it all.

"Where the hell...?"

"Welcome to the negative zone!" Selene's voice exclaims from an otherworldly source. "Enjoy your stay!"

"Negative what?" you ask, but there's no reply.

"I don't understand where she trapped us," Risa mutters, "But it looks like some kind of... strange prison. Must be a poweful spell."

"I suppose we should make our way through that door," Mayu explains. "There is no chance of us leaving this place if we don't."

"It could be a trap..." you mutter. "And a place called the negative zone... who knows what's on the other side of that door."

Without even thinking, Mayu reaches out and grabs your hand. "Kazuma..."

"It's okay," you smile. "This won't be like last time. I promise."

Mayu hesitates for a moment, the releases her grip on your hand. "Very well... I trust you, Kazuma."

You take a deep breath, and step through the door.

You step out, and you find yourself in what appears to be a city street. You recognise the place... it's Kingudoro, hell it's the street on which your home lies, the building your mother lives in to this day. The streets are empty, and it's night... yet at the end of the street, you see a figure, standing and staring at you from the distance. You take a few steps closer, and so too does the mysterious shadowy figure. You step closer and... no, that can't be right, can it? No... it is. The figure... is you, but wrapped in shadow.

"They don't understand..." the shadow you mutters. "I want to be like him... I want to be great... and they're always standing in my way. They try to put me down... hold me back... I hate them. I hate them all!"

What the hell is it talking about?

"I know I can be better, I can be stronger, but they won't let me! They want me to be docile, to stay in his shadow... well they can't make me! They want to take my power from me, I'll kill them! I'll kill them all!"

Before you know it, the shadow version of yourself is placing his headphones on and drawing his sword charging at you with a swift strike.

The figure charges at you, and you hurriedly draw your katana to match his... or yours... or whatever. You block the attack and parry, trying to get a swipe in yourself. They block that the press on, hoping to land an all-important hit on you, but you know your movements well, and are able to match every one that your shadow self throws at you.

"Kazuma!" Risa calls out as she steps into the city street. "What's happening?"

"No idea!" you call back without taking your eyes away from the shadowy version of you, keeping it occupied.

"It appears to be some sort of... negative Kazuma," Mayu mutters. "Likely bred from your negative thoughts."

"Well that's just great," you sigh. "I can take this on myself. My negative thoughts are nothing."

"If it make you feel any better, we can give you positive thoughts!" Mai laughs. "Maybe a spot of jolly singing will be enough to weaken it!"

"Let's not try," you reply. Still, you're handling this creature pretty fine on your own, even being able to block and parry to such a degree that you think you could trick them into opening themselves up to two different attacks in quick succession. Maybe you could focus entirely on this thing, while the others survey the area? Then again, you can never be too careful, and this thing is likely as strong and as durable as you are, so you might need some backup... either way, you have time to give an order to some of the others as you go on the offensive against this thing.

You parry another blow from your doppelganger, before following it up with two slices to the chest from your sword, both strikes landing with picture perfect accuracy on your shadowy self, causing them to recoil back for a moment to gather themselves before returning to the attack on you, as you continue to duck and dodge each strike. Soon, you receive help from a source you should have expected wouldn't allow you to fight on your own, as Mayu comes in from behind, ramming her katana into the side of the creature.

"Mayu... I hate you," your shadow self mutters, giving her pause.

"Kazuma..."

You shake your head. "No, it's not true!" you yell.

"You took everything from me..." the doppelganger mutters, "And you dare to disrespect my father, the only person I could ever trust. Deep down, I enjoy seeing you in a miserable state. It's your comeuppance for treating me like trash."

The words are a load of crap, but hearing them in your voice is enough to give Mayu pause, just enough of a hesitation for your shadow self to spin around and punch her in the jaw, sending her back a few feet before she gathers herself.

"Dammit!" you yell, as you swipe at your shadow once more, only for it to leap over your head and to a safe distance. You make a motion to move, but the ground beneath you has turned to what appears to be some kind of black tar. Your doppleganger reaches into their shirt and unveils a necklace, a necklace holding an all-too familiar stone. It crushes the stone in it's hands, and soon the doppelganger isn't much of a doppleganger at all... it grows tenfold in size, becoming some kind of shadowy beast with two heads, and two massive blades in its hands.

"Kaz, we found something!" Risa yells from a distance, as soon a light is shone upon you from one of the building rooftops, and the tar beneath you becomes regular earth as light is cast upon it. "It's some kind of spotlight! I remembered the Moon Beasts from earlier, and I wondered if this could help! Is it doing anything?"

"Yeah!" you reply, drawing your sword as the massive shadowbeast gets ready to attack.

Risa and crew work to turn the spotlight towards the shadowy creature, and you can see the effects begin to take hold immediately. The creature begins to burn up and as it steams up in pain, but it doesn't stop its assault. You and Mayu ready your swords. "Let's do this," you reply.

Mayu nods. "Yes... I believe in you, Kazuma."

The two of you rush towards the creature. You take the left side and Mayu takes the right, the both of you leaping upwards with your blades drawn. Your katana slices upwards across the creature's chest in a diagonal motion, while Mayu does the same from a different angle. The shadowbeast is sliced open, and with the power of the light radiating upon it's insides, you and Mayu don't even have time to turn around before it explodes into a pile of goo. Ukon and Mai must be thinking of how cool the two of you look in this moment, but you don't give it much though... okay, maybe a little thought... okay, maybe a lot.

"Mayu, that was amazing!" you smile, as you approach her in celebration. "What do we call that? Some kind of x-strike or cross attack or-"

"I was simply trying to attack in a way that caused the most damage," Mayu explains. "I gave no thought to performing a special move out of some kind of anime."

You chuckle. "Point is, we did it. And we did it together."

Mayu gives a small smile, the kind you've come to cherish in recent times. "Yes, I suppose we did..."

"Am I interrupting something?" Risa smirks as she rejoins you. "The two of you are starting to look like regular lovebirds."

"Please, don't be ridiculous," Mayu pleads, though you can see her begin to turn red.

"That was so cool!" Ukon exclaims. "You two must be some of the best fighters in the world!"

"They're up there," Risa crosses her arms. "Even in the last few weeks, you two especially have gotten so much stronger. I don't even think you've realised it."

"We still pale in comparison to some of the others," you reply. "Like Saki, Akio, Makoto-"

"Tsuki, Taiyo," Mayu mentions.

Risa chuckles. "Way to put a negative spin on things. Come on, a door just appeared, and something tells me it's out ticket out."

You step through the door that materialised in the middle of the street, and find yourself back to where you were before, but you notice something different. While you were out, it seems that Tsuki and Taiyo have changed locations, no longer standing where they once were... instead, you see Selene fighting off the rest of the group... all of them. Wow... she's incredibly powerful, moreso than any regular demon you've seen. Even when teaming up, the likes of Saki and Akio are unable to land a solid hit on her, as she fires back with tremendous waves of energy that take out entire portions of the forest. Looking around, you see that a good few of your club are already unconscious. All but Kiriko and Io. While Io is tending to the unconscious, Kiriko is zipping around the battlefield, attempting to distract Selene.

"Things are looking bad, aren't they?" Risa remarks. "Better join the fray."

As Risa begins to load her gun, you and the other three charge forward and join in on the attempted assault of the exceedingly powerful demidemon.

Mai readies her chakram spinning it like a hula-hoop as she flies through the air towards Selene, who handily flies out of the way. Ukon comes jumping at her with his twin daggers, but only finds himself being booted several dozen feet into the air by the demon in her high-heeled shoes. Mayu manages to make contact, but her strike is readily blocked by Selene's pitchfork, while the rest of the attacks are held back and pre-occupied by her wings, which extend out, multiply, and attack like metallic tentacles, keeping everyone busy. You however, are able to slip through the wings, as you find yourself swinging your sword within arms length of Selene, just about managing to slice across her shoulder.

She flies back, in clear pain from the attack, before wiping the blood with her index and middle fingers and licking it off with delight. "Mmm... I taste delicious. Nobody's ever made me bleed before... I'm gonna kill you for that."

Selene smiles sadistically as she approaches you with her pitchfork at the ready, only to be interrupted by an attack from a certain teleporting ninja.

"Oh no you don't!" Kiriko exclaims, falling through the air, ready to plunge her daggers into Selene's back. "I'm not going to let you hurt my little bro!"

One of Selene's wings catches Kiriko, slicing along her abdomen and causing her to fall to the floor, bleeding. Dammit, no...

"Stay away from her!" you scream as you run forward, only to be batted back by Selene's wing, Mayu suffering much the same fate as you. Left lying hurt on the ground before her, Kiriko is helpless and unable to defend herself from Selene's attacks. You can't even bear to look, as you silently hope that Kiriko will gather enough strength to teleport away despite her injury...

But no, Kiriko's too weakened to do anything, as Selene drives her pitchfork down... piercing through the man who leaped in front of her. With his back turned to Selene, a pitchfork driven through the side of his chest... and still with that goofy helmet on his head, Roka hovers over the downed Kiriko, barely conscious.

"W-why...?" Kiriko asks, her eyes wide in shock.

"P-pesky fly..." Roka coughs from inside the helmet. "T-the... Red Mask protects all citizens..."

Kiriko frantically shakes her head as Selene withdraws her pitchfork, moving on to fight the others, as Roka collapses. She holds his head up and removes the mask in a hurry. "N-no... no you dumb ape, why did you do it? Why did you do that for me?"

Roka simply smiles before closing his eyes and drifting out of consciousness.

"You... you stupid ape..." Kiriko cries, her eyes welling up. "You're so dumb... you're not supposed to go out and get killed for me..."

Kiriko, despite her injuries, rises to her feet, holding her wound close as she stares at Selene with hate in her eyes. "How dare you... how dare you hurt someone like that... you..."

Your eyes widen, as you begin to feel a strange energy emanating from Kiriko.

"You... bitch!" Kiriko screams in a battle cry, before teleporting towards Selene, zipping in and out of locations with such tremendous speed that you can't even keep up, and neither can Selene. It's like Kiriko is moving at the speed of light with how she pops in and out, like a glitch in reality, slashing at Selene with each and every iteration. Selene's reflexes are still sharp, and she does her best to block every oncoming attack, but some manages to make their way through, Selene even getting a rather nasty cut across her cheek until eventually, Kiriko slows down and Selene is able to catch her, booting her across the field with a sigh of relief.

Io has already moved to check on both Roka and Kiriko, but the fight with Selene isn't over yet. You have to do all you can to get past her.

You're not going to be able to take her on in straight-up combat... you can tell that she's already several times stronger than all of your put together, something that only makes you all the more terrified of Tsuki's power, so you have no other choice but to try to distract her with words. At least try to hold her off enough for Io to check on your injured companions without being attacked herself.

"Hey, you!" you call out, causing Selene to turn her head in your direction. "Why do you even follow Tsuki, anyway?"

"Why wouldn't I?" Selene laughs. "He's my daddy! I'd do anything for my dear papa, wouldn't you?"

"Well... my father is..." you begin, unsure of how to reply.

Selene giggles. "It seems like I opened I wound! Ooh, which reminds me... I have to go open a wound in your little medic friend."

Before you can stop her, Selene shoots towards Io. Io tries to hold her back with turret fire, but the bullets are all deflected by the demonic wings of Tsuki's spawn, before she drives her pitchfork down into Io's leg, debilitating her and preventing her from patching up Roka, who so desperately needs the assist.

As Io cries out in tremendous pain, you scream at Selene. "You monster! Don't you dare hurt her!"

"Oh, did I hurt your girlfriend?" Selene giggles. "Are you going to get angry? Or sad? Will you cry if I kill her? It's really fun when they cry!"

Despite her wound, Io continues to scramble and crawl along the ground with all of her energy, refusing to give up in these dire circumstances, until the sharp end of Selene's wing dangles inches above her head. "Keep crawling, and I'll pierce your skull."

Dammit... this isn't good, you weren't able to distract her at all. She's running roughshod over every single one of you, and even your best are helpless against her.

"Stop right there!" Mai calls out, as she and Ukon run to the forefront.

"We're not going to let you get away with this!" Ukon yells. "You can't just hurt our friends and get away with it. We... we're going to stop you!"

As you and an exhausted Mayu look on, Selene tilts her head. "What is this?"

"I'll tell you what it is!" Mai yells. "It's the power of teamwork! Alone, we're no match, but as a group of friends, we'll take you down and save the day!"

"We're gonna prove that we can be heroes too!" Ukon adds.

Selene cracks up. "I don't know if this supposed to be cute, but I'm just going to go right ahead and kill these two."

With that, Selene's wings shoot out, hoping to pierce at the two newcomers of the group, as you and Mayu rush to back them both up.

Ukon and Mai are so unprepared for this... they're going to get seriously hurt if you don't leap in to defend them. Mayu is close to Mai, and is able to leap in front of the hyepractive athlete and block the sharp wing with her blade, leaving Mai completely unscathed thankfully. You rush in as well, ready to do the same thing for Ukon, when to your surprise, the wing whizzes right past you as you stand in front of Ukon, turning to pierce through his stomach from behind. You spin around only in time to see Ukon being lifted into the air and tossed aside in an unconscious heap on the floor, as Mai gasps in horror.

"Ukon!" She screams. "She hurt him!"

"We're lucky she didn't kill him," you mutter, running low on energy as you stare Selene in the eyes. With this much strength... there's no way you could possibly stop Tsuki or Taiyo. Selene has been able to demolish all of you, and she's only a fraction of her father's strength.

With Io still pinned to the ground with a wing hovering above her head, you and Mayu ready your swords, ready to give one last attack that could possibly distract her, when you see Selene get hit with a blast of magic from behind... followed by Akio Naito returning to the fray, leaping into the air and punching Selene right in the jaw, a punch with so much power it sends her flying through the air, crashing through three or four trees, as Akio smirks. Damn, you knew he was supposedly the world's strongest human, but you see just how much further you have to go if you want to reach the ranks of the elite like Akio.

"Nice work Hoshi," he nods to the terrified and shaking mage in the bushes. "And good work to you kids for keeping her distracted. She's one tough piece of work, one of the strongest I've ever seen... but we can handle it. Saki's called in a little help, and they'll be here in a minute. We just have to keep her busy for a little longer."

You quickly turn your attention to Io, hunkering down by her side. In one swift motion, Io wraps her arms around you and holds you tight, sobbing gently. "Kaz... thank god... I was so scared..."

Io kisses you on the cheek as you help her to her feet. She can still stagger and limp her way over to Roka and begin to treat his injuries, as Selene comes flying back ready for more.

"Nice shot," Selene remarks. "I really want to kill you for that!"

"That's a compliment, right?" Akio smirks. "You three, attack her in tandem. Don't focus on taking her down, just on keeping her busy, just long enough for the cavalry to arrive, got it?"

Mai charges forward first, striking with her chakra, though it's readily blocked by Selene who pushes Mai back just in time for Mayu to come leaping into action, swinging at her with great fury, slicing across the shoulder of Selene, then readily dodging ever swipe of the sharp wings sent in her direction. You follow up by charging towards Selene with you blade getting another good swipe across her chest before attempting to follow up with another, this time blocked by Selene, but you find yourself with the sudden strength to lock her in a stalemate with your blades clashing.

"What? Still upset that I hurt your lady?" Selene asks.

You grimace. "You've hurt far too many people already. We're putting a stop to this."

"With your pitiful numbers, I don't see you doing much to-GAH!"

Still in the stalemate, Selene jerks her back out as an arrow pierces right through her shoulder. You move back and look behind Selene to see a familiar face wielding a crossbody.

"Hello Kaz!" Lilo of Class 3 yells as she waves. "Long time no see!"

"Ah, that hurt..." Selene mutters, removing the arrow from her shoulder. "Well, one addition isn't too bad, it's all the more corpses for me to pile up-GAH!"

Selene isn't able to finish as she is tackled with a headbutt from her blindside, being knocked close to a hundred feet across the field. The culprit, Taka Doi dusts off his hands as he readies his Greatsword. Amazing... Class 3 in action, and they seem so much stronger than they were the last time you met them.

"Good to be back in action!" Taka smirks. "All that training worked wonders, and now it's time to see the results!"

As Selene continues to tumble backwards across the floor, still careening from the force of the tackle, only to then be further assaulted by rapid sword strikes from Yasutake and Kamiko, both attacking with incredible speed. Selene blocks and deflects with her wings, but while earlier she didn't even break a sweat, here she's seriously struggling. Panicking, even. Before she has time to mount a counter-attack, Kamiko and Yasutake are joined by Shinji, who gives a mighty slash across her chest, dealing an incredible amount of damage with his large sword, before grabbing her and tossing her into the air, allowing the demon to become little more than target practice to the leader of Class 3, Maro. Wielding two rifles, he fires away on Selene, who is pierced with shot after shot, before she begins to fall to the earth out of sheer exhaustion. Adding the finishing blow is Taka, who leaps and grabs Selene as she's falling in the air and smashes her head first into the ground.

In a matter of seconds, Class 3 had defeated Selene... wow.

"Do we have any casualties?" Maro asks.

"Plenty of injuries," you explain. "A lot of us are in terrible condition... but nobody's dead."

"Good to know," Maro nods.

"Damn... I had no idea," Akio notes. "Looks like I'm going to have to work even harder. You guys might just be exceeding me!"

"Same here," a tired Saki notes. "That battle was far too strenuous. We need to train harder. I need to reach the point where I can take on a demon of that caliber on my own. This got really ugly, really fast."

Taka raises Selene up by the hair, only to take a punch to his ribs for the trouble. Selene gasps in pain, not even able to give any kind of message before she snaps her fingers and disappears from your reach.

"Dammit, she got away!" Taka yells.

Maro shakes his head. "It'll be fine. All that's important right no is preventing Taiyo and Tsuki from-"

Maro isn't able to finish his sentence before the ground begins to rumble beneath him with such ferocity that he almost falls back. Those of you left standing make your way towards the site of the battle in an incredible hurry. As you arrive, you bear witness to a stunning sight. Behind Taiyo lies and entire forest, completely obliterated and reduced to ash, the aftermath of a single one of Tsuki's attacks. But that stunning sight makes the next all the more stunning. Tsuki, on his knees beaten down by Taiyo in a matter of seconds.

"I don't understand why you would continue to fight," Taiyo mutters, looking towards an unconscious Eos lying on the floor then back at the destroyed forest. "You... you destroy this habitat, this precious nature, murder innocent animals... and for what? To force a fight you had no chance of winning? I was always the stronger half Tsuki, by a wide margin. You gained power here on earth, but not nearly as much as needed to defeat me."

"I know," Tsuki smirks. "That damn school and it's test... it made me have to rush things instead of waiting... growing stronger. I'm not done fighting. We don't ever stop fighting Taiyo."

"I wish you would," Taiyo sighs. "I truly do."

"You're pathetic!" Tsuki yells. "Breaking apart was the dumbest thing we ever did, and the second dumbest was letting you be the half with all the power! All that power... going to waste. Well, no more! I won't stop until either one of us is dead, or we become The Eclipse again!"

"They're both so desperate..." Sayeka mutters as she listens in on the two. "I can feel Taiyo grief, and Tsuki's anger..."

"You know you can't beat me," Taiyo mutters.

"Yeah..." Tsuki nods, defeated. "But I can kill her."

Before you know it, Selene is appearing, grabbing Sayeka by the arm and throwing her between the two demons.

"Sayeka, no!" Chihiro screams. "You beast! You monster! I demand that you return her at once!"

"In how many pieces?" Tsuki chuckles, before conjuring a massive ball made out of pure energy in the air, and launching it at the blind Sayeka... only for Taiyo to take the attack in her stead, rushing into place to defend her.

Unable to see either of the two, Sayeka has to feel around her surroundings. "Taiyo...?"

Taiyo collapses to his knees in front of Sayeka, as a tiny animal pokes out from his cloak. The tiny hedgehog that he has been taking care of, which Sayeka catches as it falls.

"You... truly are beautiful..." Taiyo mutters, reeling from the attack. He strokes Sayeka's cheek with his hand, before in a bizarre display, his body begins to turn to stone. Whatever spell or technique Tsuki used, he fully expected Taiyo to step in on Sayeka's behalf.

Once Taiyo is fully solidified, Tsuki lets out a maniacal laugh. "Done in by his own chivalry! Well, guess what Taiyo? The Moon wins today! Hahahaha!"

Tsuki lightly kicks the frozen solid Taiyo, before kicking away Sayeka, as Chihiro rushes to her aid. Tsuki smirks and waves goodbye to the group as he picks Taiyo up under his arm. "Selene, grab his daughter too. She's useful as well. Adios, losers! I'll be certainly seeing you all again very soon!"

Before anyone has a chance to do anything, Tsuki is gone, taking Taiyo with him. Sayeka looks distraught as she holds the baby hedgehog as closely as Chihiro is holding her, as Saki lets out a sigh.

"All of that... for nothing."

>It's not for nothing. We learned important information about our current enemy, at least.
>We really need to get stronger. The threat is far too strong for us.

>It's not for nothing. We learned important information about our current enemy, at least.

Saki gives a sigh and nods. "I guess so... this has been a rough day. I just can't wait to go back to the academy, have a nice bath then snuggle up next to Ryoji. Then starting tomorrow... I train. We all train. We're not going to let Tsuki be the end of us, no matter how powerful he may be."

Saki walks off and you wander around as the others begin to recover.

"I can't believe I didn't get to fight Tsuki..." Gado mutters.

"You were injured well before we were even close to him," Anri points out.

Gado sighs. "Makes it all the worse. Now Brainiac, are you going to kiss my wounds better?"

"That's my job!" Amaya perkily smiles, before turning red. "To heal your wounds! To make them better... not to kiss them. I don't want to kiss anything..."

You step forward some more to see Roka finally coming to, with just as beaten up Kiriko hanging by him. "You dumb ape..." she smiles. "Why'd you do it?"

"I didn't do anything?" Roka mutters. "Are you talking about what The Red Mask did? Because that's a pretty brave guy."

Kiriko giggles as she begins to lean in with her arms outstretched. "I can't believe I'm doing this, but... you earned it."

Kiriko wraps around Gado and hugs him in a tight squeeze, causing him to groan in pain. "Ugh, stop it you pesky fly! You're making my wounds worse!"

Kiriko doesn't listen continuing to hug Roka before he reluctantly hugs back.

With a weary sigh, you sit down next to a recovering Io.

"I was almost a goner back there..." Io remarks. "I was so scared..."

You place your hand on her shoulder. "Pretty resonable to be. I was scared myself. I was really worried that I could have lost you."

Io smiles. "Thanks... sorry for kissing you, by the way."

"Eh, it's fine," you shrug. "You were scared, then relieved. Plus it was only on the cheek... that's normal."

"Yeah..." Io giggles. "But you were moving around so much, and my head was all woozy. I was aiming for your lips."

"Oh..." you mutter. "Still, it's fine. Heat of the moment."

Io sighs as she leans her head on your shoulder. "Kaz... we're in serious trouble aren't we?"

You look down at the wounds on her leg brought about by Selene. "I wish I could say something comforting," you sigh. "But yeah... we're in big trouble."

>Player Question
This two-part thread was basically a preview of the threat from an arc to come. Soon, we'll be returning to Ryoji and the arc revolving around a cure for Rei. What are your predictions for the near future?
>>
>>984032
Rei is kill
>>
>>984032
gotta save rei dude
>>

Thanks for running Booker, the first part but specially this part were both amazing episodes.

>Player Question
So I guess both of the protagonists will go their separate ways for this arc.

Fantastic two part thread Booker. This has been quite a ride, and at the very least, great progression into Kaz's growing role.

>PQ
Begrudging acceptance of Ryoji and Alice being useful by the feds. Ergo they let him walk, especially now that we have this stuff going on.

Now that the others know what a demi-demon is capable of, Ryoji and the gang will be training a lot while digging for clues as to how they can save Rei and find Hermes. Got to find out which student can read the book.

Also, I have to predict that Ryoji will also be having to do a lot of therapy work. Sayeka is not doing so hot, not to mention the obvious work that needs doing with Rei, Isamu, Raiden and (likely) Akemi.

Then we go and save the Rei. For we must!

This new Gado sucks.

Thanks for running Booker.

>PQ
My hopes are that we can recruit Tsuki successfully and then fug his daughter. My prediction is that they'll both get killed off instead. As for Rei, it'd be neat for her to tie into this arc somehow. Maybe Tsuki can stone her while we track down Hermes and do whatever with him or something.

>>984032
Thanks for running Booker.

>PQ
Ryoji and Akihito teaming up for a massive therapy session, Kaz dealing with the probable negatives from Kiriko's demidemon power up and the unholy shitstorm that'll occur when the Dice Gods decide to kill Rei and Isamu at the last minute.

>Bonus Scene

"So... what is its name?"

Chihiro couldn't do much to comfort Sayeka after the recent events. While all the others healed up, Chihiro remained by her distraught roommates side, one who just went through quite the harrowing experience. Usually at a time like this, Chihiro would act lovely and cheerful, and make promises of tea and gossip... but any of that would feel hallow if said at this moment. Instead, Chihiro simply wrapped herself around the arm of her friend and has refused to let go. The first thing she asks is in regards to the small hedgehog that Sayeka is lightly stroking, the last remnant of Taiyo before he was taken away.

"I... don't believe it had a name," Sayeka explains.

"Well..." Chihiro begins. "Why don't you name him after Taiyo. I think it would be a positively wonderful gesture!"

Sayeka shakes her head. "From what I recall, he disliked naming animals after humans... he preferred each name to be unique."

"Oh..."

"Besides, this hedgehog is a girl."

"Ah, another lady joins our ranks!" Chihiro jokes. "I absolutely must save her a seat during our tea parties."

Sayeka remains silent, as Chihiro lets out a sigh. "I'm sure we'll think of a name eventually."

"He saved me..." Sayeka mutters.

"Of course he did," Chihiro replies. "Who wouldn't want to save you when you're in danger? Why, I was just about to take the hit myself had he not beat me to it."

"Don't say that, Chihiro..."

Chihiro giggles. "But it's true! You know full well how special and dear you are to me."

Chihiro presses Sayeka head to her chest and hugs her tightly. "Everything will be okay, Sayeka. That I can promise you."

"Chihiro..." Sayeka murmurs. "I know I can be distant..."

"And I understand perfectly!" Chihiro assures her. "You feel you must remove yourself emotionally because of your visions, and while I personally believe that to be poppycock, I do think that-"

"Chihiro, please..." Sayeka gives a small smile. "I... because of that, I don't find myself saying this often enough, but... I love you, Chihiro. You're my dearest friend, and I have no idea what I'd do without you."

Chihiro gives a tearful smile. "Sayeka, please! More talk like that, and I'll be reduced to tears! It's simply cruel!"

"I just wanted you to know that," Sayeka replies. "I needed to say it."

"Well Sayeka," Chihiro smirks. "I can safely say that you are my dearest friend as well. I love you."

Chihiro hugs into Sayeka some more, when the two are approached by Makoto. "Hello Sayeka, Chihiro. I hope the two of you are recovering well."

"Oh, I'm feeling even better now that I can see that pretty face of yours!" Chihiro smiles.

Makoto nods. "Okay... I just wanted to know that you were both okay."

"Oh, concerned about my safety?" Chihiro winks.

"Yes," Makoto replies. "I'm hoping everyone made it out of this nasty business safely."

"Oh..."

Makoto then does what Chihiro once thought impossible. He places his hand on her shoulder and smiles.

"Oh, my heart is racing..."

Makoto hangs his face inches from Chihiro. "Today was difficult... it's good to see you're okay. I was very worried about you."

With that, Makoto walks off, as Chihiro celebrates to herself. "Did you hear that, Sayeka? He was worried!"

"Yes," Sayeka giggles. "I feel you may be rubbing off on him."

"It works every time!" Chihiro laughs, as she looks over to Chihiro. Finally, a genuine smile. A genuine laugh. Chihiro can't help but smile herself. Even when things are at their bleakest... they still have each-other.

The End
