Far off, nestled in an otherwise small Japanese town lies the Dark Gate Academy. An institution of tremendous size, the Academy holds a long kept secret. Unknown to the outside world, this unseemly town is home to a tear in our reality. A gate between our world and a bizarre dimension known as the Darkworld. The inhabitants of this hellish world breach this gate and attempt to flood into our reality and spread throughout the world on a regular basis. However, the Dark Gate Academy is home to students of truly extraordinary abilities. The ability to sense the presence of these evil Darkworld creatures, and defeat them in combat, sending them back through the gate.

They cannot close the rift between our world and the Darkworld, but the students and staff of Dark Gate Academy have dedicated their lives to using their amazing powers to hold back the darkness that plagues our world, even if it costs them their lives. They have risen up to the challenge and in secret have become great heroic defenders of the world as we know it.

For many years, Dark Gate Academy has held back the forces of the Darkworld, kept this unspeakable evil contained within their walls. But a dark cloud approaches, and times are about to change. A new chapter in the tale of Dark Gate Academy is about to begin.

“Come on Ryoji, it's time for class!”

You awake in your bed with Saki sitting up next to you, shaking you awake with one hand and adjusting her bra strap with the other. You admittedly didn't do much sleeping last night... but hey, you were away on a mission, and Saki's own mission had proved to be a hazardous ball of stress, one you'll no doubt be left to pick up the pieces of today, and when you return to your dormroom to be welcomed by Saki in a little white towel fresh out of a bubblebath... well, certain urges take over. So, with the room free from Ken and Nanami for the evening, you and Saki relieved your stress by... talking the whole night through. At least, that's the cover story should anyone ask, but you doubt they'll believe that. Saki's a very loud “talker”.

“Can't it wait five minutes?” You yawn. “We can afford to be just a little late to class, right? Just this once?”

“Ryoji!” Saki gasps in horror at the mere thought. “You wouldn't walk into a movie theatre half-way through, would you?”

“No, but I'm interested in seeing a movie,” you explain. “How about you go to class and you can give me one of your written warnings for being late right now. It'll save time.” Ah, who are you kidding? On this, Saki will never budge. Her dedication to education is as adorable as it is exhausting when you find yourself having to match her efforts.

Saki leans in and gives you a kiss on the cheek. “Come on Ryoji, the term end exams are coming up, and you haven't studied at all. We need these last few classes to gather up that all important information!”

You groan, rising up out of bed. You'll let her have this... you'll always let her have this. Still, it doesn't mean you won't skip classes later on in the day.

Ryoji, perhaps there's something you should mention to Saki before you go to class...

Nina has a point, there is something you've forgotten to tell her. “By the way Saki... if you see Alice today, it's very likely that she's going to call you mom.”

“That wouldn't surprise me,” Saki replies. “Alice is eccentric... but wait, how do you know that?”

“Well...” you shrug. “On our mission, Alice was feeling pretty down about not having parents anymore after being trapped in the Darkworld... and since she kinda looks up to me for some reason, she asked if I'd be like a dad to her... which would also make you her mom.”

“Wait...” Saki raises an eyebrow. “Are you saying you adopted Alice?”

“Kinda,” you reply. “I mean, it's more of a figurative gesture. We were already parental figures to her anyway.”

“I suppose so,” Saki nods. “You know... I don't have a problem with this. I like Alice, and it would be nice to act as a good pair of role models for her. Plus, with how childish Alice can be, it'll be good practice for when we have a kid of our own!”

Yeah... I think you're gonna need to fill Saki in on that other thing, too.

You take a deep breath as you look into Saki's eyes. Those big, blue, hopeful eyes. “Saki... that might be an issue.”

“Huh? Why?”

“I just found out that... as long as The Stranger is part of my body, I won't be able to have children. I'm sorry...”

For just that once, you and Saki were a few minutes late to class.

The redness in her eyes tipped people off immediately to the fact that she had been crying, and they feared the worst. Saki had to assure many of the curious that the two of you hadn't broken up, and that she had simply received some bad news.

“Ah, Ryoji!” Miss Yamano beckons you over before you can take your seat. “Exams are coming up soon, and Akihito told me during one of our... s-staff meetings, that you benefited greatly from a tutor last semester. Do you want me to assign you another tutor for this lunchtime?”

>Sure, I could use a little tuition.
>Nah, that's boring. I'm sure I'll do fine in the exams myself.

>Sure, I could use a little tuition.

"Ah, perfect!" Yamano smiles. "Um... who did you have for tuition last term?"

"Hoshi," you reply.

"Really?"

You nod. "Yeah, she's surprisingly good at teaching. She actually managed to get everything through to my thick skull."

"I-I did?" Hoshi mumbles hesitantly.

You shrug. "Yeah, I aced the test didn't I?"

Hoshi pauses. "Y-yeah, I s-suppose you did..."

Man, that girl will never give herself any credit. As you move to take your seat, Reiji raises his hand. "I'm afraid Hoshi will be unavailable for tuition today, as I'm currently in the process of tutoring her. You can't expect me to tutor two students a very different levels at the same time."

"I-I think you can do it..." Hoshi mumbles. "You're a v-very good teacher..."

"Well, Hoshi has faith in you Reiji!" Miss Yamano smiles optimistically. "So I think it's settled. I'll pencil you in to teach Hoshi and Ryoji this lunchtime break!"

"What?!" Reiji protests. "B-but I... oh, whatever."

As you sit down in your chair, the door to the room bursts open as Agents Green and Blue step inside. Oh, what now?

"Can I help you gentlemen?" Miss Yamano asks.

"Sure you can," Blue smiles and gives a wink. "Me and my partner were just sent to pick up Ryoji Shida. He and Alice Maddox still haven't received their blood tests."

Saki bursts from her chair in panic. "B-but we already identified the hidden Archdemons! Tsuki Takudo and Taiyo Izumi!"

Green shakes his head. "You can never be too careful," Green replies. "And to be honest, these two have been triggering a lot of red flags with us lately."

Everyone's eyes shift around the room, and Yamano can clearly sense the tense atmosphere, unsure of what's going on.

"T-then I request that I accompany Ryoji!" Saki exclaims. "Miss Yamano, I am horribly sorry, especially due to my horrific and unforgivable tardiness, but may I be excused in order to provide support for Ryoji?"

"O-of course!" Yamano replies. "You're more than welcome to provide support to your... friend."

"You don't need to cover for them," Blue replies. "We stopped enforcing that rule after their big rebellion. Besides, not like we could enforce it with how many of these kids are already screwing like rabbits. I mean... wow, are you kids out of control. Mad respect."

"It's disgusting," Green replies.

Blue gives him a light punch in the arm. "Ah, lighten up. Tell me you'd be any different if you went to a school where everyone was disproportionately attractive?"

You're lead out into the hallway by the two suits, with a determined Saki following close behind.

"I swear Shida," Green mutters in his usual angry tone. "You've been suspicious since day one. It'll feel good to see you finally get exposed for what you really are."

You have to wait a moment to get an answer from Blue as he's busy laughing uproariously at your comment towards Green. "It wasn't funny," Green grimaces as Blue slaps his thigh.

"I beg to differ," Blue chuckles. "Ah, I like this kid's attitude."

"Of course you do," Green glares. "You love nothing more than disrespect towards your superiors."

"Ha, you've got him upset!" Blue laughs again. "Oh man... as for my story, it's really nothing special. I joined the forces because I thought it would be fun, and I was pretty damn good at it. Of course, over time it stopped being quite so fun... I only planned on doing it for about five years, then handily retiring by moving off to America... live the rest of my days relaxing in Hawaii, enjoying the beaches and the sight of buff brown guys in speedos..."

"Ugh," Green voices his disgust.

"What changed?" you ask.

Blue laughs. "Besides me not being paid enough to retire young? Well, a young girl became an agent... and I figured this kid needed some guidance. A little helping hand... and this kid was so great. She made being an agent fun again. So I stuck around, just for her... and my partner here. I know he couldn't get by without me!"

"I wish you had moved away," Green mutters. "I'd much rather you be out of my hair."

Blue leans in and whispers to you. "He's a lot more fun when you get to know him... and he has a few bottles of sake in his system."

You are lead to the nurse's office, where you can see Alice sitting, patient yo receive her blood test with a hapless smile. "Hi dad!" she yells.

"Dad?" Green asks. "Hmm, we just discovered that Archdemons can spawn children. Pretty suspicious that she would call you-"

"It's a term of endearment idiot," you reply. "Hey Alice, how's it going?"

"She's going to put a needle in me!" Alice smiles as she points to Tekina.

Saki sits down next to Alice and places a hand atop hers. "You don't sound too afraid."

"I'm not!" Alice replies. "Especially now that my mom and dad are here!"

Saki gives a warm smile before hugging into Alice. "That's right... mom and dad are here..."

White is already in the room, chatting away to a somewhat nervous Tekina... likely trying to see if she'll crack and drop the bomb about you and Alice early, before turning to you.

"Ah, you've arrived!" he smiles. "I feel this has been more than a little overdue. Do you have anything to say for yourself before we run this test?"

>Nah, just stick the needle in me already.
>I just want you to know that I'm of great worth to this school.

>Nah, just stick the needle in me already

"Well, I can't say you're lacking in confidence," White chuckles. "Either that, or you're very impatient."

You shrug. "You're trying to build up some weird tension and try to make us crack, but you're not gonna get anything out of me or Alice."

"Or me!" Saki chimes in.

"Me neither!" Tekina adds, before hiding behind some books when White looks at her suspiciously.

White nods understandingly. "Very well, let's get this over and done with. I don't want either of you missing too much class. Nurse, do your duty."

Tekina hesitantly stands up and readies the needle. She approaches you, biting her lip as she gets ready to plunge it into your arm. "I'm very sorry..." she mumbles, before the door bursts open and a tall, intimidating, grey-haired figure steps into the room.

"Stop this instant, that won't be necessary," Wei mutters, a folder in his right hand.

"Good to see you've left your office, old man," White chuckles. "It was tiring to send people over to make sure you haven't died."

Wei growls and tosses the folder to White, who handily catches it. "And what's this?"

"Reports," Wei explains. "Reports on events you had no idea about. The incident of the Endless Night, for one. Read up on that case, and you'll learn something very important."

"That Shida and Maddox are demons?" White asks.

"No, you'll learn that their status as demons doesn't matter," Wei fires back. "Shida and Maddox have saved the world in the past, and they'll do it again. They have the powers of demons, yes, but their loyalty has always been with us. They're the best weapons we have in the battle against the Darkworld... and if the disastrous mission for Takudo and Izumi are any indication, these two may be the only chance we have."

There is a long tense silence in the air. Not a word between anyone, not even a movement, until...

"Why are we playing statues?" Alice asks. "I really have to pee."

White smiles, as he flicks through the report. "You're as full of surprises as ever, old man. Good to see. Very well, I'll put faith in your judgement. No more need for the test, now that the truth is out."

Saki breathes a sigh of relief as she squeezes your hand. "Thank you... Grandfather."

Wei huffs. "Don't be so grateful. Part of the reason I could convince them was your tremendous failure in the previous mission. Your leadership abilities are woeful, and unless you improve, Shida will be just as useless as the rest of your class."

"But still... thank you..." Saki smiles, brushing off the criticism. She's spent enough time with you that Wei's put-downs don't quite effect her as horribly as they used to... still, even with her brave face on you'll likely need to comfort her a little later after that.

"Thank you so much, Old Wei!" Alice exclaims, as she rushes the principal with a hug around his waist. He grimaces, but can't bring himself to resist.

"Alice..." he mutters, with surprising tenderness. "You look the same as I left you..."

"And you're all wrinkly and grey!" Alice laughs.

"Yes..." Wei nods. "I've gotten so old, haven't I? None of the other's have grown this old... not even you."

"Not even Mizuki!" Alice exclaims innocently, though Wei grimaces, shutting his eyes tight and clenching his teeth. As bad a guy he is, he did save your skin... and facing Alice right now must be incredibly painful for him.

>We visited Mizuki's grave. Left a flower on your behalf.

Wei stares at you, his dour expression unchanging. "You shouldn't have. I never asked that of you, and it my duty and mine alone to place flowers on my wife's grave."

"Hey, I just thought that you would appreciate it a little, seeing as you rarely get a chance to visit," you explain. "You're always stuck in your office."

"Besides, I asked Ryoji to get flowers for the grave," Saki explains.

Wei stares at Saki, and for a moment you think you begin to see a change in his facade. "Saki... it's a shame that you never had the chance to meet your Grandmother, because-"

"She would have talked some sense into me?" Saki guesses. "Are you going to say I would have disappointed her too-"

"No," Wei forcefully interrupts. "She would have loved you, Saki. With all her heart... in all the ways I can't."

Saki pauses, staring at he Grandfather in silence as he lets out a sigh. "She may even have been okay with you, Ryoji... though I doubt it."

Wei stares at the three of you, and for a moment, his expression changes from his default anger... to some sense of familiarity. "I must take my leave. I want the artefact you gathered on my desk by the end of the school day.

As Wei walks off, you hear the school bell chime. Huh, it's first break already.

"Oh, what are you going to do for first break, Ryoji?" Saki asks.

>While we're here, we should check in on Rei.

Saki nods, as the two of you make your way to the end of the room to where Rei's bed lies. The curtain is pulled completely over. You hesitate on possibly disturbing Rei while she rests, before poking your head through to catch a glimpse of Rei sleeping peacefully. She's accompanied as always by Isamu, who is also sleeping in his chair, leaning forward and snoozing with his head in her lap, while Akira sits in a chair on the other side of bed, likely being kept awake by all the sugary snacks she biting down as she reads a book.

"Anything interesting?" you ask.

Akira looks up and gives you a welcoming nod. "A textbook on ballistics. Hikaru was kind enough to give it to me."

"Is it naptime?" Alice asks with excitement, before making her move to immediately sleep as well.

"Alice, don't crawl under Rei's bed!" Saki exclaims as she tries to get some control of the flighty demon.

With that outburst of noise, Rei shifts in her sleep stretching out and letting off a yawn as her eyelids slowly open. Her first action, almost on instinct, is to ruffle Isamu's hair like he was a faithful dog at the foot of her bed, before turning to you. "Oh... hey, Ryoji..."

"How you holding up?" you ask.

Rei shakes her head. "Besides the dying, you mean?" she asks. "Ryoji... I'm tired all the time. I've got no energy... I feel myself wasting away."

"We'll find a cure," you reply. "I promise, we can track down that demon, and we'll be able to get you your health back."

"I'm not holding out hope..." Rei mutters. "I already heard about yesterday's mission. A single demidemon took down everyone with ease... if this supposed cure involves killing the one that gave me my powers... It just seems pretty grim."

"Just... keep up hope," you reply.

"Yeah," Saki smiles. "I'm not going to let you down, Rei."

Rei gives a small, sad laugh. "Ah, Kobashi... you have no idea how much I hate relying on you... but thanks."

"This whole ordeal will be over in no time," you reply. "All we need is to find the right spell, and we'll be knocking on that demon's doorstep... or whatever they have there."

"And then we kill it..." Rei mutters. "This Hermes... more than anything, I hope it's at least a great fight. Shame I won't be able to fight the battle myself... at least I'll get to be there when it happens. I have to be to get cured, right?"

"As I understand it, yeah."

Rei leans back in her bed. "Dammit it all, it's so confusing... I like it a lot better when I can just kick ass and ask questions later..."

>How's Isamu handling everything?

Rei gives a small smile as she looks down at the sleeping Isamu. "He may be a dork and a loser and an idiot... but he's even braver than I gave him credit for... his attitude is really helping me get through all of this. Heh, he keeps buying me stuff to cheer me up..."

Rei motions her hand towards the wide-array of stuffed animals lining the bed and resting upon the bedside counter, a joint effort from Isamu and Akemi. Rei's eyes are then caught by another gift from Isamu resting upon the bedside table... a small silver tiara. Well, a small plastic tiara straight out of the children's section of a nearby shop, but Rei's eyes linger on it regardless.

"Still haven't put it on, I take it?" you ask.

Rei shakes her head. "I made a promise to Isamu... I wouldn't put it on until I was better. Until I was ready to be his princess again... heh, look at me. I've even started calling myself his princess."

"He's certainly rubbed off on you," Akira mutters.

Rei's eyes glance over to Akira. "And I'm sure you don't approve."

"I do approve," Akira bluntly replies. "I was wary of him at first, but... he has your best interests at heart. You should marry him."

Rei gives a nervous chuckle. "Whoa, don't you think you're going a little far? He's just a friend-"

"Don't lie to yourself," Akira interrupts. "And please don't lie to me. I know you're scared, Rei... but you should be honest with yourself..."

"Let's just drop this for now..." Rei pouts. "I'm too tired to have this conversation. Ryoji, Saki... thanks for stopping by. I hope I'm still around by the next time you visit."

"You will," Saki smiles. "We promise."

"Later, Rei."

With that, you step from behind the curtain, as Saki checks her phone. "Oh geez... I'm late for a breaktime tea party with the girls."

"A tea party?" you ask. "I assume it's Chihiro's doing, right?"

Saki nods. "Yes, she wants to make it a regular thing. It's a shame Rei's not in condition to join us... but I should catch up with the rest. See you later, Ryoji."

Saki kisses you goodbye before rushing out to meet with the others, and you find yourself checking your own phone.

>Meet up with Akio

It's not often that Akio calls to meet with you, so you decide to check in on the guy. You know his incredible pride must have been hurt badly by the recent failed mission, and he could probably use someone to talk to... someone with a few more braincells than Seishiro, at least. And with Hikaru likely attending the tea party, you make your way out to the courtyard to meet with him.

Akio greets you, sweating and shirtless as he dabs himself with a white towel. "Hey Ryoji, good to see you!"

"How long have you been training?"

"Since I got back from the mission," Akio explains.

You raise an eyebrow. "All through the night? You're going to wear yourself out."

Akio smirks as he shakes his head and takes a gulp from a water bottle, parts of the water missing his mouth entirely and dripping down his horribly scared chest, the result of training with his uncle. "Nah, I've been sure to take plenty of breaks. I know how to pace myself."

"Yeah, but don't you think Hikaru would be worried?" you ask.

Akio laughs. "Sure she is! My phone was ringing off the hook all night! I was too busy training though, so I had to turn it off."

"Akio..." you mutter.

"I know what you're thinking," Akio smiles. "It's fine, Hikaru's very understanding. It's part of why I love her... she waited months for me while I was in the mountains, and she can definitely wait a single day for me to get a good training session in. I'm already starting to see some improvements! I'll be ready to take down those Archdemons in no time! Leave it to me, the strongest human on the planet!"

"You talk a big game," you reply, "But you do know how much Hikaru suffered for those months, right?"

"And do you know how happy she was to see me again?" Akio smirks. "She can get mad, Ryoji... but the second I show up again, all is forgiven! That's how it works, because we love each-other!"

>Yeah, but there's only so many times you can hurt her before she gives up.
>What is with this obsession to be the strongest, anyway?
>Man, you're a real crappy boyfriend.

>Yeah, but there's only so many times you can hurt her before she gives up.

"Gives up?" Akio scoffs. "Come on Ryoji, don't be ridiculous! Hikaru would never give up on anything, let alone me! She loves me!"

"Sometimes that's not enough Akio," you sigh. "What do you expect her to do when you pull this crap all the time? What's she to do when you never show her that you love her?"

Akio pauses. "What? I... I show her how much I love her. I'm always cuddling her, kissing her, calling her babe-"

"That's not enough to make up for this," you shake your head. "Face it, Akio... you're lucky. You're really lucky she loves you as much as she does, because any other girl would have left you by now."

"Left me?" Akio laughs. "She wouldn't leave... s-she wouldn't leave me, right?"

"If you keep this up, she might."

Akio stares at you, before closing his eyes in frustration, tossing his spear to the side and punching the ground with enough force to leave a tiny crater beneath his fist. One of the agents is going to have to patch that up.

"Dammit!" He yells. "I... what the hell is wrong with me?!"

"Hey, calm down-"

"No!" Akio yells. "I keep doing this! I keep hurting the people I want to protect! I love Hikaru... I love my friends... but dammit, it's so damn hard to handle my training without cutting them off! I need to keep working, I need to become the strongest! I've seen the threat we've gotta face first hand, and none of us are ready for it! I need to be ready, I need to know that when an Archdemon comes knocking, I can defend the woman I love... I know I'm capable of it, I know I'm one of the best chances humanity's got... but what freakin' good is it if I come back to the dorm every night to see her crying! Dammit!"

Akio runs his hand through his hair and takes a deep breath as he sits on the nearest bench. "Sorry for going off on you like that... it's just been a stressful few days. You should have seen it, Ryoji... the raw power... it put me to shame. It put me to complete shame, and I need to work my ass off if I can even hope to compare... but I can't balance training and my relationships. I feel like a crappy friend to you and Seish and Ken... and I feel like I'm letting down the person I care about most. It's such a pain in the ass. I'm gonna call Hikaru, apologise for being an ass, then get back to work. That sound good?"

>Let her know how important the training is to you. She'll understand that you need to work if you tell her.
>No, you should spend some time with her. Make up for being neglectful.

>Don't ask me, it's her you need to speak too.

"Huh?"

"Come on Akio, you can't be that dumb," you sigh. "You're sitting here asking me of all people what's okay and what isn't when what you should be doing is talking it out with Hikaru. She's the only one that matters here. Why the hell are you acting afraid to talk to her? You're the most confident person I know!"

Akio stares at you in confusion for a moment as he whips out his phone. "Ryoji... crap, you're right. What was I thinking? I need to talk to Hikaru... I'm not going to let her slip out of my hands like this."

Frantically, Akio begins to punch in the keys to his phone and places it up to his ear. It rings for a moment before he gets and eventual answer. "Hey babe... Hikaru, I know you're mad. Okay... the yelling tips me off that you're definitely mad. Look, before we say anything else I want to get it out of the way that... I love you, and I'm sorry. I know what I did wrong, and I want to talk to you about it... maybe not over the phone. I'll catch you back at the dorms, okay? Thanks... I really do love you, Hikaru. Bye."

Akio hangs up and gives you a simple nod before rushing as fast as he can towards the dorms. He didn't even take the time to put a shirt on. What a prideful idiot... you get where he's coming from, though. The approaching danger is great, it seems that every Archdemon you meet is several times stronger than the last, and in order to protect the people he cares about... he has to neglect them for his training. While it's dumb and careless of him to outright ignore her, you can see how it made sense in the clouded mind of Akio and his fragile ego. At least he knows when to try and make right...

You hear the bell ring, signalling the end of first break.

"It's about time we went back to class," Nina mentions. "It's science up next, right?"

"All the more reason to skip," Stranger chimes in. "I really don't like the looks of the new science teacher... granted, I didn't much care for Tekina as science teacher."

"I always remembered her classes being fun... insanely hazardous, but fun. The amount of times Taka caught fire reached the point where I couldn't count it on my fingers."

>Smoke on the roof

"Ryoji, I really can't say I approve of you skipping classes," Nina mutters. "You honestly should follow Saki's example, especially this close to exam time."

"If the man wants to have a smoke, let him have a smoke!"

"Ryoji, I was under the impression you didn't even like the taste of cigarettes anymore?"

"I don't," you explain. "As a matter of fact, I hate smoking. But I'll do it anyway, because Saki finds the smell on my jacket comforting. Besides, it's more about me not wanting to go to a boring class and chill out on the roof than actually needing a smoke."

"Ryoji..."

You sigh. "Don't worry, I'll make up for it at lunch when Reiji's tutoring me."

You make your way up to the school roof and find yourself with some room to yourself with nobody else to bother you. With a pleasant smirk on your face, you pull out your pack of cigarettes and light one up, taking a few unsatisfying puffs, as you lie on your back and look up to the sky. Ah... nice and peaceful. You wish Saki were more willing to ditch classes, so you could bring her up here while it's quiet, and there's no chance of you being interrupted by... a cat. A stupid black cat, it's face hanging inches from yours, staring at you like the stupid beast that it is as it hops onto your chest.

"Dammit Daisuke..." you mutter. "Don't you dare try and-"

It's too late, as Daisuke is already up to his thieving ways, the filthy beast. First pawing the pack of cigarettes out of your front pocket, then in a daring display, straight up biting into your currently lit cigarette from its side, pulling it right out of your mouth as the annoying cat burgler tries to make it's escape.

"Oh dear... this must be very embarrassing for you," Nina remarks, and you can feel the glow of her smug smile as she does. You scramble to your feet and grab hold of Daisuke, holding as tight as you can so as to prevent him from running off.

"Got you this time!" You laugh victoriously. "You made the mistake of targeting me on the roof! Nowhere for you to run from here!"

"What the hell do you think you're doing?!"

You don't even have time to react before you're being shoved to the ground with the force of a truck. You look up, to see a red-faced Nariko standing over you. "What were you doing to my cat?!" she screams. "Grabbing it like that, taking it up to the roof... shoving cigarettes into it's mouth?!"

"Nariko..." you mutter.

"You're a real piece of work!" Nariko continues to scream. "Don't you dare touch one of my babies like that again! Stay the hell away from me and my pets, or I'll chop off your-"

"Nariko, calm down..." you sigh, placing out a gentle hand. "This isn't like you. Deep breaths."

Nariko's eyes focus, seemingly breaking from a trance. "Ryoji? I... whoa, the last few minutes were pretty fuzzy... oh god, I didn't go into rage mode, did I?"

"Not fully," you reply. "But you were pretty aggressive and pissed off..."

Nariko lets out a sigh. "Oh man... Ryoji, I am so sorry. Did I hurt you?"

"I'm fine."

"No..." Nariko mutters. "Okay, yes..."

"Well, what is it?" you ask. "Did Hiro say something dumb again? Did he start flirting with Chihiro or something?"

"I... I..."

"What?"

"I lost Ryojiiiiii!" Nariko bursts into tears. "My little kitty is out there somewhere and I can't find him!"

You sigh. "Knowing RC, he's probably just wandered off to perv on some girls. I'm sure he'll come crawling back any moment now-"

"You don't understand, I've been looking all morning!" Nariko explains, wiping her eyes. "I've even checked all his favourite spots! The girl's changing rooms, the public baths, my underwear drawer..."

"None of this surprises me," you reply.

"I think he ran away from home!" Nariko cries. "Oh... I thought I took good care of him! Did he hate me? Why would he leave without even saying goodbye?"

"It's not like he could leave a note..." you remark. "Look, cats like to wander. He probably went into town or something, I'm sure he'll be-"

"I thought my cats loved me, but what if they don't?" Nariko asks. "Am I just keeping them against their will? Am I just forcing affection on them? I don't even know what to think anymore!"

Nariko continues to cry, as you pat her back in comfort.

"You will?" Nariko mumbles through a sea of tear. "Oh, thank you Ryoji! Thank you!"

A grateful Nariko hugs into you as you let out a tremendous sigh. You're going to miss a lot of the free time you thought you had for yourself, but hey... it's to help out a friend.

You begin to search around the school grounds alongside Nariko once more on the hunt for your feline counterpart, but to no avail. You can't find him anywhere in the school... but you decide not to give up there, and soon you and Nariko find yourselves going into town in order to keep up the search. As slippery as Nariko's cats can be, he can't have gotten far... right?

"Ryoji..."

"Yes?" you ask.

"Not you, the cat..." Nariko explains. "The idea of him being in town makes me very worried... I first found him in town. He was covered in cuts and was very badly injured after fighting off a big dog... oh, he's such a brave little soldier! But... he's not safe here."

"Keep you hope up..." you reply. "I'm sure we'll... hey, isn't that him over there?"

You point towards a white cat with a rather bored expression on his face. Yeah, that's him all right. Nariko's pervert cat... being approach by a rather small dog with dark brown fur. Small... but still two or three times the size of the kitten.

"Ryoji, no!" Nariko screams in fear as the dog saunters up to the cat and... licks him. The tongue of the dog is bigger than the cat's head, so his fur is standing on end when he licks the face of the dog back. The dog then hunkers down, while RC hops onto it's back and rests there, allowing the dog to carry it around.

"Huh?" you ask.

"He... he made a new friend," Nariko smiles proudly. "Oh, and here I was getting angry, thinking the worst! He was just meeting with his new buddy!"

Nariko rushes up to the animal pair and snaps her fingers to grab the cat's attention. "Ryoji! It's me, mama!"

The cat perks its head up and rushes towards it's owner, leaping into Nariko's arms before beginning to paw at her chest as it usually does.

"Saki, were you playing with that kitty again?" a child's voice calls out, as you see a little girl beckoning the dog from a little further down the street. "What did I tell you? Let me know when you're gonna wander off like that!"

"Sorry, what did you just call that dog?" you ask.

The little girl raises her eyebrow. "Saki, that's her name. Why?"

You and Nariko look to the cat, then to the dog, then to each-other, and before you know it, the two of you are laughing uncontrollably.

"Wow, what are the chances?"

"One in a million, at least!" Nariko giggles. "Just wait until the others here about this!"

The laughter dies down, as you and Nariko look at each-other. She gives a warm smile as she holds her cat close. "Thanks Ryoji... this really made my day. And I'm sorry for getting angry and jumping to conclusions..."

>Hey, it's no problem. We're still friends.

Nariko nods with a wide grin. "Yeah... we are. Thanks Ryoji, this really means a lot to me."

"No problem," you smile back, before Nariko pulls you in tight for a hug. "Come on, let's get back to school... and I really should make sure to organise some play dates between Ryoji and... Saki. I swear, that's just the best thing I've ever heard."

You and Nariko make your way back to the schoolgrounds after spending well over an hour searching for her cat. It's already lunchtime now, which means you need to make your way back to homeroom in order to receive tuition.

Arriving back in homeroom, you are greeted by a suitably grumpy Reiji. "I see you've decided to arrive. I was thinking you might skip out on us."

"Long story," you explain. "Hunting for a cat. Nariko was sad, but it's all good now. Let's get this tuition over and done with."

"R-right!" Hoshi replies, as she begins to open up textbooks. "Umm... you skipped science today, so l-let's start with that..."

"What?" Reiji mutters. "Why should we retread what we already covered just an hour ago because Ryoji thought he could skip class? Hoshi, you wouldn't gain anything from it. Don't forget, this it your tuition as well."

"Y-yes, but Ryoji needs tutored m-more..." Hoshi mumbles.

You shrug. "Is it bothering you that I'm here, Reiji?"

Reiji sighs and shakes his head. "Not at all, it's just... frustrating. Sit with us, I'll find something the both of you can benefit from."

You sit around the desk with Reiji and Hoshi, as Reiji begins to scramble through his bag. In a brave display by her standards, Hoshi pulls out a chocolate bar and displays it before Reiji. "What's this?" he asks.

"Chocolate..." Hoshi replies. "A-as a gift for tutoring, and b-because I thought you could use a snack for the stress..."

Reiji examines it for a moment before tentatively taking it. "Thank you, Hoshi. Now, where did I put those history books..."

Reiji begins to pull out many stacks of paper, before letting out a sigh. "Okay... time to get to work. Ryoji please pay attention. I'm not going to repeat myself."

Reiji looks pretty damn tired, likely a mixture of his studies, tutoring Hoshi, and researching into the darkworld and finding out how to reach that demidemon.

"The least you could do is pay attention to him," Nina explains.

You decide to put your best effort into listening to Reiji's long lectures about all the various topics that'll be creeping up on your test. The Ancient Greeks, Algebra... something about plants? You couldn't quite follow that part, but the rest you kept a good grasp on. You don't feel as confident in your knowledge boost from when your were tutored by Hoshi last semester, but you still feel like you've gained a lot with Reiji's help. After all, he is a really smart guy.

"I must say Ryoji, I'm surprised," Reiji remarks. "You really were quite attentive during this session."

"What can I say?" you smirk. "I'm a good student when I want to be."

"I can see that," Reiji ponders. "What about you, Hoshi? Do you feel confident going into exams."

"Y-yes..." Hoshi replies. "T-thank you..."

Reiji hesitates for a moment, before ruffling Hoshi's hair. Hoshi gives a blushing smile as you gather your books and begin to walk out the door.

"Oh, Ryoji!" Reiji calls out after you. "By the way, we've got someone looking over that strange book, and we may have it deciphered by the end of the day."

"Good to know," you reply. "We need every piece of information we can find if we're to find that demidemon."

Reiji nods. "Indeed... Rei's life is our utmost priority."

You nod before stepping out into the hall. As you do, you see Sayeka leaning slightly against the wall by some of the lockers, feeding small treats to... a hedgehog? Oh... Saki told you about this. That boy Taiyo had been taking care of that hedgehog before he got taken away by his Archdemon rival, and it appears Sayeka has taken to tending for it instead now.

"What's its name?" you ask.

Sayeka raises her head, acknowledging your presence. "She doesn't have one yet, I'm afraid. I'm not the best with names."

"I'm sure you'll think of something eventually," you reply.

"Yes..." Sayeka mutters. "I know there's something else you want to ask me, Ryoji. Don't be afraid to do so."

>How are you holding up?

"I would be lying if I said I was doing fine," Sayeka answers honestly. "I have encountered a threat that my powers can't sense... a threat so powerful... it scares me. Not to mention that Taiyo sacrificed himself to protect me, when he may have been the only person capable of defeating Tsuki."

"You can't blame yourself for someone wanting to help you," you reply.

Sayeka shakes her head. "Perhaps... but I feel his was of much more worth than myself. Let's be honest, Ryoji. Had he allowed me to perish, we would all be in a better situation right now."

"Except you," you reply. "Sayeka, our lives are worth more than a successful mission."

"You say that," Sayeka replies. "But I fear that by saving my life, Taiyo has doomed us all to death in the near future."

There is a tense silence, undercut only by the hedgehog letting out a little squeak. "I like this thing," Sayeka remarks, stroking the hedgehog as she focuses on a lighter note. "It's very cute."

"Yeah, it is..." you smile. "Sayeka... take care of yourself."

Sayeka nods. "I will... though now I must also take care of our little spiked friend."

Sayeka begins to wander off, with the baby hedgehog letting out the occasional small squeaks as she does. You let out a sigh, as you wonder what to do before lunchtime, and subsequently your free time, is up.

>I should visit Akihito's office.

You have still have time to kill before you head to Wei's office, after all. It can wait until the very end of the day. For now, you want to meet up with Akihito in his office. You make your way up to the floor with his office and knock on the door.

"Yo teach, it's Ryoji!" you call out.

"Come on in!" Akihito's voice replies from inside, as you step through the door to see Akihito chatting up Miss Yamano at his desk. Whatever he said to her, she's blushing and giggling and very, very charmed.

"I'm not interrupting anything, am I?" you ask.

Akihito shakes his head. "No, not at all. Yamano and I were just enjoying the end of lunch together."

"I should get back to the classroom," Yamano explains. "Ryoji, I hope to see you in class as well!"

"Shouldn't you expect to see him in class?" Akihito chuckles. "You should try to crack down on Ryoji's skipping."

"Ha, r-right..." Yamano giggles, before Akihito places his hands on her hips.

"Have fun," he smiles. "I'll see you later for dinner."

The two share a quick kiss, before Yamano leaves for class.

"Romance is in the air, huh teach?" you remark.

Akihito smiles. "Yes. It seems I've found myself in a bit of a secret relationship. Now I know how Takeshi and Tekina feel."

"Why, are those two-"

"Yes. Tell no one," Akihito replies.

"Lips are sealed," you smirk. "So, what did you want to meet with me for?"

Akihito takes a seat and beckons for you to do the same. "I wanted to ask for your advice on something."

"Really?" you scoff. "You need my advice?"

"I'm as surprised as you are," he replies. "You see... I've been speaking to Principal Wei, and he has agreed that due to him being a former student, my brother Naoaki will be granted an official memorial service soon. Myself and hopefully Akio will be able to eulogise him at said memorial, but... I'm drawing up a blank on what I could say. My brother... he was a difficult man. As Akio can attest... he was quite cruel and vicious. He was not a pleasant human being at all."

"Why eulogise him at all?" you ask.

Akihito shakes his head. "Because regardless of his many, many lesser qualities... he was still my older brother, and I cared deeply for him. But I don't know how to put those feelings down in words. You've always been a good talker, so I figured that you might have some input to give."

>Just speak from the heart, and it'll all come naturally.
>Stick to whatever good points he had, let him be remembered as better than he was.

>Just think to yourself, how would he want to be remembered?

"With extravagant lies most likely," Akihito chuckles. "He'd most likely prefer if I told everyone he died in bed by a heart attack after overexerting himself with his harem of one hundred beautiful women... but I can't see myself saying that at the podium. No... at the very least, I think he'd like to be remembered for his strength. For his... odd sense of humour. For his dedication to his craft."

Akihito adjusts his glasses for a moment, before letting out a weary sigh. "I can't believe I've lost two of my brothers already... still, thank you for your advice Ryoji. I'll be sure to put it into practice. As a reward..."

Akihito makes his way to a drawer and pulls out a small photo which he hands to you. "You get to see a single photo of myself as a teenager. Only a glimpse though."

A glimpse is all you need to start making fun of him. "Man, that facial hair... you look less like a saviour of the planet and more like a nerd who's into roleplaying."

"Very clever," Akihito smirks as he puts the picture away again. "I'm sure you'll have more material in enough time."

With that, you bid farewell to Akihito and make your way to class. The classes themselves are a total bore, the only highlight of English class being able to witness the inner way as Seishiro stares at Miss Hirashi's rear every time she turns to the blackboard mixed in with Satomi staring angrily at Seishiro.

With classes over, you find yourself with no option but to deliver that golden sphere over to Wei's office.

Arriving, you open the door to see Wei looking solemnly over some old reports before you haphazardly dumb the sphere on his desk. "There you are, all shiny and... whatever else it is. I have no idea what that thing's supposed to be."

"And you don't need to know," Wei fires back. "Not for the time being. Good work, Ryoji."

"Sorry, can you say that again?"

Wei raises and eyebrow. "Good work, Ryoji."

"One more time, sorry. Maybe you should say it louder."

"Good work, Ryoji!" Wei booms, causing you to smirk.

"Heh, heard you the first time, just wanted you to say it again."

"You really are quite the nuisance..." Wei mutters. "Now, move along. I already congratulated you on your effort, you needn't expect I praise you more."

>Ask about the letters

"So... that sphere was in a case with some letters and photos..."

Wei places the sphere into his top drawer before staring at you. "Those letters are none of your business. Simply because they were in the same container as this sphere doesn't mean you have any right to look through them."

"Why did you lock them away?" you ask. "There's hiding personal letters, then there's throwing them into the middle of a death-trapped cave."

"Why do you think?" Wei replies. "I was ashamed to look at them any further. My wife was gone, and I hated to be reminded of that fact."

"Is that why you hate Saki?" you ask.

Wei growls. "How dare you..."

"Because she looks so much like Mizuki, right?" you continue. "And instead of praising for her and caring for her, you resent your own granddaughter for serving as a reminder that your wife is dead. Just like it said in your letter... she reminds you so much of her."

"Shut up," Wei grimaces. "This is none of your business, boy."

"Saki's the girl I love," you reply. "The girl I plan on marrying some day. Her family treating her like trash no matter what good she does? It's my business, whether you like it or not."

"Fine!" Wei yells. "I hate her! I hate my granddaughter for what she reminds me of? I'm a failure of a grandparent! Is that what you want to hear, you snot-nosed son of a bitch?"

"I just wanted the truth," you reply. "Not to late to change, Wei... think of how happy Saki would be... how happy Alice would be."

"Alice..."

"How happy Mizuki would be if she were still here."

After that, Wei turns cold and silent.

"See you around, Wei. Thanks for saving my skin earlier."

"Ryoji..." Wei mutters, turning his head to you. "Take care of her... please. Promise me you'll love her."

"With all my heart," you smile, before leaving the room.

A text from Ken later, and you're on your way to the dorms. It seems that they've got someone to translate the book that was found. Two people, in fact.

"Wait, the twins from Class 1?" you question in surprise as you arrive to see the two of them, Makoto and Amaya, fiddling through the book.

"Yeah, the language seems to be one that was spoken in this village hundreds of years ago, and it's been preserved in their family for generations," Ken explains.

"We are very rusty though," Makoto admits. "Plus it wasn't completely preserved. Some words and meanings got mangled with time... but we can get the grasp of the information in this book."

"And we have very good news!" Amaya smiles. "There's a few pages here on that Hermes you've been looking for and his Archdemon The Conqueror. Not only that, but we've got a spell right here that could bring you right to their civilisation!"

"That's amazing," you reply. "We... we might be able to do it. We might actually be able to save Rei... Wait... civilisation?"

"Another interesting bombshell," Ken replies. "We already knew that not all demons are mindless beasts, but it seems that some regions ruled by Archdemons are filled with intelligent demons who live under that Archdemon's rule. The Conqueror for instance seems to have a massive civilisation under his command, as well as... well..."

"As well as what?" you ask.

"His own army."

“Sorry I'm late, sorry I'm late!”

Saki rushes into the dorm common room, red in the face, as she stares vacantly at the assembled group of Chihiro, Sayeka, Nanami, Akemi, Hikaru and Rini.

“Oh, it's no bother!” Chihiro smiles. “We hadn't quite started yet. We were simply taking a roll call.”

“Oh...” Saki breathes a sigh of relief. “Thank god... I couldn't bear to be late to two arrangements in one day... two in one lifetime is enough for me!”

“Well, I think this is just about everyone,” Chihiro smiles. “Hoshi is studying with Reiji, Satomi is being a dear and assisting the nurse, Akira is looking after Rei... and Nariko is currently searching for her little white kitty.”

“The perverted one?” Saki raises an eyebrow.

Chihiro gasps. “Saki, little Ryoji is no pervert!”

“Yes it is!” Saki protests. “It's always groping and tricking people and doing all sorts of perverted things!”

“Saki, it's just a little cat,” Chihiro smiles. “How could a cat be perverted?”

Saki grumbles as she pulls up a chair and sits at the table.

“And now...” Chihiro shivers with anticipation as she raises a cup. “The first official meeting of Class 2 Ladies' Tea Drinking committee can begin!”

“You know, you could have just shortened it down to Gossip Club,” Nanami points out. “That... is what we're doing right?”

“We're having sophisticated and elegant conversations!” Chihiro maintains. “And yes, that may involve a little bit of light gossip. We have to keep up with current events, after all!”

“First order of business!” Rini slams her hand on the table, shaking everyone's cups. “We gotta talk about those sounds Saki was making last night!”

Saki turns red in the face as Chihiro shakes her head. “Rini, please! We approach matters with a little more tact than that!”

“Thank you Chihiro-”

“-We will address Saki's lewd noises later on, but it requires some more build-up!”

Saki grumbles, and mumbles that she isn't a lewd person while she takes a sip of her tea.

“Now Hikaru, you seem to be absorbed into your cellphone!” Chihiro remarks. “Usually, your nose is stuck in a book! Is something the matter?”

“What?” Hikaru raises her head. “I... nothing. It's nothing.”

“I must say Hikaru, I saw Akio training in the yard this morning,” Chihiro adds. “Oh, he looked just ravishing! You're a very lucky girl!”

“I am?” Hikaru frowns, as she puts the phone back into her pocket and lets out a sigh.

“Moving on,” Chihiro smiles. “Akemi, I must commend you for your tolerance of Raiden.”

“Thanks! You too!” Akemi smiles, downing what appears to be her second tea cup since Chihiro started the meeting.

“No Akemi, that doesn't make sense...” Chihiro sighs. “I just think it's very brave of you to try and rehabilitate a troubled boy like him.”

“I don't approve!” Rini remarks. “Raiden's a loon! Someone as nice as you shouldn't be spending time with him! He's a bad influence!”

“Aww, but Raiden's really nice!” Akemi beams, much to the confusion of everyone else. “He's funny and he likes trains and ice-cream. Oh, and he loves hugs from me so much, he cries!”

Chihiro gives a small smile. “Oh Akemi, you truly are the salt of the earth. How is our friend Raiden, anyway?”

“I don't know!” Akemi shrugs. “I can't find him!”

“You... can't find him?” Nanami asks.

“Nope!” Akemi replies. “He's been gone a few days now! Have any of you seen him?”

“No Akemi... I haven't,” Saki replies, her smile fading.

“Oh well! I'm sure he'll be back soon! Maybe he went on a surprise vacation! I said he would have fun at the beach, maybe he's there!”

There's a long silence in the common room, that is thankfully broken by the squeak of a hedgehog.

“Ah yes!” Chihiro perks up. “We need to help come up with a name for Sayeka's new pet! She's a lovely lady like the rest of us!”

“How about... Nina?” Saki suggests. “That's a nice name.”

“Akemi Jr.!” Akemi smiles.

“Long John Silver!” Nanami exclaims.

Sayeka shakes her head. “I'm sorry, but it can't be named after anyone that exists. Taiyo disliked that...”

“Long John Silver was fictional,” Nanami points out. “Then again, he was also a guy... Long Jane Silver!”

“How about Murble?” Akemi suggest. “Or Bizwham! Or Flongoo! Or Shabbledonk!”

“You're just making loud noises!” Rini protests. “None of those are names!”

“Amaterasu,” Hikaru states. “Considering it was the pet of The Sun and everything...”

Sayeka ponders for moment. “I like it... but naming it after a sun goddess still isn't a unique name... I suppose I'll have to think about it...”

“Don't worry!” Akemi smiles with a notepad in hand that nobody noticed her even take out. “I've got fifty more suggestions written down!”

Sayeka gives a small laugh. “Thank you, Akemi... I'll take great pleasure in hearing them.”

“Oh was that a laugh?” Chihiro smirks. “Did we finally inject some cheer into your day, Sayeka?”

“A little...” Sayeka smiles as she strokes the hedgehog gently. “Thank you, everyone.”

Chihiro gives a playful wink a smiles triumphantly. “Well, with that I can see our first meeting was a rousing success! We'll be certain to do this again more often!”

“This was pleasant,” Saki nods. “But I suppose we should be heading to class-”

“Not so fast, Miss Kobashi!” Chihiro laughs. “You can't escape that easy! You must give us the details of your lewd and sordid affair with Ryoji last night!”

“L-lewd?! S-sordid?!” Saki exclaims with wide eyes. “Nooooooooooooo!”
