Welcome to Mischief Managed: A Marauders Era Quest. This quest takes place in the Harry Potter universe in the year 1971 and follows our PC’s years through Hogwarts, Tom Riddle’s rise to power, and the First Wizarding War. Book canon will be followed for most things. Every other year will be skipped, for times sake, but only while you’re in Hogwarts. Rolls are best of 3 using a d100.

Last thread we found ourselves awaiting the Christmas Holidays, exams looming overhead. Cyril, along with his classmates sit in DADA, learning the sacred art of dueling.
>>
>>1005506
You and Remus both quickly begin writing down the spells you plan to learn. You decide on Baubillious and Flipendo, the Lighting Charm and the Knockback Jinx, being the spells you’ll use against Remus. You quickly read through and begin to work on the wand movements. Unsurprisingly, you pick up on them quickly and soon have the spells down. As you watch the other students struggle to even learn one, you can't help but grin. Looks like studying has paid off for at least DADA. You’re smug pleasure is quickly vanished when Professor Walten prods your back. “Already done Cyril? I expected that much from you. Now help Remus with his.” he tells you. You shift your focus to Remus, who tells you that he already knows his first spell, though he won't tell you what it is. Instead, you help with Fumos. You’re interested in how he’ll use it, but you know it's useless to ask; he’d he lose his edge in the fight.

Halfway through the class you and Remus wait patiently for your turn as the duels begin. Walten clears the desk with a wave of his wand, giving everyone room to maneuver during their fight. The first pair to go Is Severus and Lily. Sirius sticks his foot out as Sev passes, nearly tripping. Severus gives him a death glares at him as he goes to his side of the room, Sirius and James both snickering. Taking position opposite of each other, Walten explains the rules of dueling. Its simple, first you bow at one another, walk to your side, then fight. Sev and Lily quickly follow directions, bowing and then turning. Sev’s face is painted by conflicted, as if he's unsure what to do, while Lily's is of cold determination. Before he can even react, you hear Evans yell “Expelliarmus!” and Severus’ wand goes flying through the air, caught before it hits the ground by Lily.

The Gryffindor half of the room erupts in claps while the Slytherin side boos. Lily looks proud of herself, and while Sev does look annoyed, he changes quickly when he sees how happy Lily is. They both take a seat, talking to one another. Several pairs go after them, Sirius and James being one of them. Instead of actually dueling, the keep disarming one another, shooting off a spell as soon as they catch the others wand. Walten takes away five points for “tomfoolery” but he gives them both a small grin. In no time in at all it's your and Remus’ turn. You both got to the center of the room and suddenly everyone goes silent. The two best DADA students in your year facing off is a spectacle everyone wants to see. You hear Walten say “Begin” and you and Remus bow. As you take your steps to your side of the room, your fingers itch. Remus wouldn’t expect an attack right now; you’d have the upper hand.

You quite your Slytherin sides whispering and take the last several steps. The room echoes with your and Remus’ footsteps as everyone watches intently. You finally reach your side of the room and waste no time spinning yourself around. You whip your wand towards Remus’ shouting “Baubillious!/”. Your spell misses him by a hair, literally. As he ducks to avoid your shot, he mumbles his own spell. You can't make out what he says, but he obviously must have used Fumos; the tip of his wand begins gushing out smoke. Odd, he must have added to the spell because to not supposed to give out so much smoke. Professor Walten waves wand, applying the bubblehead charm to himself and everyone but you and Remus. The smoke around Remus quickly consumes him as he gives you a smug grin and disappears within the still growing black mass. It seems he’s still holding the spell. He cant stay in for long, but as long as he does you don't have a clear shot. You shoot a couple bolts into the smoke to no effect; Remus doesn't come out, nor does the smoke stop.

You could keep firing spells, but nothing's stopping Remus from doing the same, so you better act fast.

You would think there would be a simple household charm type smoke/air clearing spell that would be useful here.

I'm sure there is, we just don't know it yet, still gotta get through another 6 and a half years of charms

And the only one for Britain, every witch/wizard in magical UK goes there or gets tutored and yes I am sure there are books out there just full of household charms and spells, but we're halfway through the first year and it's not like we were raised to be a housewife

Thinking fast, you crouch, making yourself as small as possible so Remus has a hard time hitting you. Remus is still in the smoke, though it occurs to you he could be hiding behind it. You don't have much time to think when notice several tendrils of smoke slowly stretching themselves from the smoke. You’re surprised at the advanced spellwork, even if it is poorly executed. It seems the smoke has stopped growing, but it takes up over a quarter of the room. The tendrils begin to gain pace, shooting towards you. You jump to the side, dodging the first tendril perfectly. THe second one you dodge quite terribly.

The tendril of smoke hits you with surprising force; it reminds you of the school ghosts passing through you. The smoke engulfs your view and feel the third and final tendril hit you. You try not to, but can’t help taking a lungful of smoke. You throw yourself out of the smoke and into fresh air. You cough out smoke and gasp in air like a fish out of water. Your eyes have watered up a little, but you can still see, abet a bit blurrily. You finally spot Remus, the smoke around him finally dispersing. You’ve been able to notice him first, as he even seems a bit turned around after being in the smoke for so long. You notice him tense up and begin to turn to you.

You know that you’ve only moments to act, so you don't waste any time as you take aim at Remus. He finishes turning just in time to see you shout “Flipendo!” and before he can react, Remus is swept off his feet. You watch him fly back and your heart is gripped with an odd pain as you realize Remus is going to slam into the stone wall. Instead of sickening crunch, there's only a slight ‘oomph’ from Remus as he hits the wall. Relief washes over you as your realize Professor Walten must have softened the wall. Remus falls of a second and is then caught by Professor Walten, using a spell to let him float down to the ground. Even before he touches the ground James, Sirius, and Peter are by his side. They seem to mother him, as if they thought he nearly died. He laughs and waves them off, turning back to you. You tense as he walks towards, unsure what to expect.

You loosen up as he offers you his hand with a smile. “That was brilliant. I'm surprised you were able to see at all.” he says as you take his hand and shake it. “I had my shirt over my head the entire I was in the cloud of smoke.” he explains. “I'm surprised you were able to even charm the smoke to do that. When did you get so good at Charms?” you say with a questioning tone. He gives you nothing but a sly smile. Before you can say anything, Professor Walten comes up to the both of you. “Good charm work Lupin. Inventive thinking like that is what keeps you alive.” he says to Remus. “And Selwyn,” he says, turning to you “I can safely say you’ve mastered that Knockback Jinx. It’s a handy spell; I know it's helped me several times.” He says, giving you both a slight grin. You both girn back, interrupted by the bell signaling the end of class. As you and Remus go and grab your schoolbags, Professor Walten says he won't be assigning any homework, telling you to use the time to study for the upcoming exam.

Rowan waits for you at the entrance of class as you wave Remus goodbye as he joins up with his Gryffindors. James waves goodbye too, too busy talking to Sirius to say goodbye. You and Rowan chat as you make your way to your next class: Herbology. You had to admit, it was one of your least enjoyable classes. It wasn't the teachers fault, it's just that you didn't find the plants that interesting, besides their practical uses for potions. Plus you always left the class smelling faintly of dragon dung fertiliser. You arrive to the greenhouses with time to spare. Severus seems to be walking Lily to class, again. Some students intermingle as they wait, but most of the Ravenclaws have their head in their books, the exams making them review their notes constantly. You see Pandora towards the front of the class, looking up at the sky absent mindly.

What's everybody hoping our relationship with Falcor and Remus turns into? I can see the eventual standoff with James about Severus and Lilly, and Sirius might just continue to view us as one of the pureblood Slytherin's he's grown up hating, but I think Remus is our best shot at having a best friend.
>>
>>1020101
I figured Severus would be our bestie.
Helping him against james for lillys hand would be fun.
>>
>>1020172
Severus is our bro, and we're totally cucking James no doubt, but it seems like we actually get along with Remus more than most.

Surprisingly the werewolf is the easiest to get along with.
>>
>>1020101
I think we need to start spending some time with Sev, give him a little of a hand, maybe work on stopping him becoming the butt of a few of the Maruader's jokes.
>>
>>1020191
We need to teach him how to bullshit. Middle School was a fucking nightmare until you learn how to not have a stick up your ass.
>>
>>1020101
Sirius might come around in time, with a bit of a bash around the head so he opens his eyes.

Regarding Lily, we need to get Sev out of the friend zone, maybe he should spill his guts about his true feelings I've valentines day and give her time to think. But not in first year...
>>
>>1020197
Pretty much, as dumb as it seems he needs to do a few things...
1) Make potions seem cool, ok I get it they are neat but the Reds are no the brightest, make something cool and flashy that does something awesome
2) Stand up for yourself with more than violence, we're Slytherins darn it, we're meant to be swarthy mother fuckers.
3) Learn to Banter, cos fuck son, you gon need it.
4) After you've built up the above he can spill his guts hopefully to Lily...maybe year 2 latest and see how things go.
>>
>>1020339
This. I'm guessing some potions that can change your appearance or make you taller or something would be enough to get James to come over to the cool side, and if we can somehow find a way to find out about Remus' condition maybe Sev could work on some potions around that.
>>

That seems vain and liable to cause some fallout when found out.

>>
>>1020998
Kek, why not just use a love potion.

>>1020926
You really think he is that shallow that some glitter will make him disregard an ingrained hate?
>>
>>1021026
I think a ten year old will disregard a lot of things if they can grow to six feet. Yes.
>>
>>1021021
Well, he'd be subtle about it.
Not just pop up out of nowhere looking like her dream guy after someone suspiciously asks her.
He would start small with his hair and color and just keep adding and tweaking til its perfect and her dream guy.
Shit, can you make changes permanent in the harry potter world?
>>
>>1021075
Really we could do the same thing by just naturally styling his hair.
>>
>>1021083

Man, i don't know what lilly wants in a guy.
Im sure our interference is enough to sway her to sev. im just willing to go that far for SevXLilly if necessary
>>
>>1020998
oh hell no, we do that we're asking for trouble.

>>1021026
No love potions

How about we do this the smart way, we do what i mentioned above, but if Sev wants potions to be more involved we just do shit like crazy achemic stuff, stones that absorb offensive spells, Turn Sev into a battle Apothecary, chucking out potions which burn, create smoke, knock out or do other wierd magical shit.

I mean there are potions to increase luck, why not an agility or strength potion? Get Sev some confidence and Swagger.
>>
>>1021239
I've got it, we make a bullshit with Sev that we talked with Slughorn about a Confidence Potion, we give him some juice or something, and he 'thinks' he's actually drunk something that will give him confidence, so that he will gain the confidence on his own.
>>
>>1021259
he wouldn't drink it he'd chemically dissect it to learn how to make more.

Pandora notices you as you past, saying hello as you walk by. You smile as you say hello back. Rowan nudges you with his elbow once you pass, waggling his eyebrows. You punch his arm in response and he pouts as he rubs his arm. You and Rowan wait across from her, leaning against the Third Year greenhouses. Several minutes of chatting with Rowan go by when you hear the First Year greenhouse door unlock. You quickly stand up, taking your weight off the greenhouse. Professor Sprout is a kind woman, but doesn't take lightly to any mistreatment of students or greenhouses. As she finishes opening the door, she surveys the group of students in front of her with a smile and tells you all to hurry in.

As you and Rowan quickly shuffle in and go to your usual spot, one of the few windows without a plant greedily stealing the sunlight coming through it. You and Rowan both begin taking your herbology supplies out. Sprout tells you than you’re all so close to exams and have been taking care of your Puffapods so well, today will be a general study day. Seems like being good pays off from time to time. You turn to Rowan, who already has his dragonhide gloves on. He moves a bit of the hair covering his eyes and asks “So Cy, puffpods or good old book work?”, a smug grin on his face. You sneer at him and throw a rude hand gesture his way. He knows he's better than you in herbology and he knows what you hate more than anything is the practical parts of Herbology. You let out a sigh as he taps his foot.
