>Information

This quest takes place long before the events of The Last Airbender. Long before Aang, Roku, Kyoshi, Kuruk, or Yangchen. You play as a young Earthbender from a small village in one of the many Kingdoms scattered across the main continent. As a powerful villain strives to dominate the world, you will be forced to make choices that can stop it, aid it, or have no effect whatsoever.

>Rules

After each update I make, there will be a voting period of ten minutes. Once ten minutes have passed, whatever option has the most support will be the winner.

Write-ins are accepted, but only when specified If you see a write-in option, suggest whatever you like. If not, choose from the options I have provided.

Sometimes, rolls will be required. I will assign them, and they will operate under a d100 system. You will have three chances, and if one of the rolls succeeds, you pass. There are no crits, but I do take into account how much you succeed or fail by.

I reserve the right to veto certain write-ins, but will try to avoid doing so.

I hope you all have fun

THE TIME HAS COME AND SO HAVE I
>>
It's clobberin time!

After a somewhat awkward evening, during which neither you nor Sansha say much to one another, you rise early in the morning, climb aboard Gava's back, and take to the skies, making the trip to the river village North of your current position.

Gava seems refreshed and raring to go, though Sansha still seems gloomy and out of it. She doesn't say too much to you beyond a simple "good morning", and the flight toward the village becomes awkward very quickly.

Maybe you should try talking to her.

"Do you know anything about this village?" you ask your friend, who turns her head to glance over her shoulder at you.

"Nothing, sorry," she tells you before turning away again.

Sighing, you ask her another question.

"Why did you decide to come with me?"

For a moment, the girl is silent. But, this time, when she addresses you, she turns her whole body to face you, looking you in the eyes.

"I owe you my life," she explains. "Staying behind would have meant an even higher chance of you getting killed, and I couldn't just sit back and let that happen."

She looks down. "So, I came with you, though I wish we hadn't needed to leave the others."

One of the past Avatar's visited you in a dream and encouraged you to go after Kalana immediately. Lantana and Mauya were opposed to the idea, so you split up

"Its not like we won't see them again, on the off chance that Kalana already got what she was looking for and already left the library, we can go back and find the others while looking for clues from the trail she might have left."
>>
>>1012008
Why would a Avatar visit us? Dam we really are a MC. But this is cool i was thinking of splitting the party by leaving someone to attack Kalana's forces and the other split go help Lantana in her journey. Although...i didn't exected such events...

And as always Sasha best girl.

"So do I," you admit, missing Lantana and Mauya already. "But, I'm glad to have you with me."

This does draw a small smile from your friend, and you're confident that, given time, things will be okay with her. So long as you're able to survive that long, anyway.

"We'll see them again," you promise her. "If Kalana already found what she was looking for and left the library, we can go back and find the others before we track her down again. How does that sound?"

For a moment, she looks excited, but that seems to dim pretty fast.

"Wouldn't that just give Kalana more time?" she asks.

"Good point," you admit. "But, if we can't stop her before she leaves the library, I don't think we can stop her without help from Lantana and Mauya."

Sansha nods in agreement, and it looks like you've cheered her up just a bit. You aren't sure exactly how she expected this little trip to work out, but you think she's a little less grim about it now. So, at least there's that.

"What about that Firebender that Lantana's learning from?" Sansha asks. "Do you think he'll come too?"

"I don't know," you answer honestly. "But, either way, we'll manage."

Sansha seems to accept that answer, but before your conversation can progress much further, Gava growls, alerting you that you're approaching the village.

It's clearly larger than Mauya's, with some more impressive looking buildings, but it's still far and away from a major city. Still, you should be able to find supplies here without too much trouble, and maybe get information if you need it.

"Hold on," Sansha says as Gava approaches the village. "Didn't Kalana place a bounty on us?"

"Well, I might be able to help with that, actually," Sansha tells you, grabbing her backpack and pulling out some makeup tools. "I could probably paint some arrows on our heads."

"That might not work, but you could use that makeup to change our appearances enough that we won't be recognized," you suggest.

"That could work," she agrees, seeming embarrassed not to have thought of it first. "Let's land Gava a short hike from the village, alright?"

You bring Gava down at the river's edge a short distance from the village, and Sansha gets to work editing your appearances. She ties her hair into twintails, reddens her lips, and makes a few other adjustments to make her less recognizable.

She then works on you. She doesn't do much with your hair other than mussing it up a little bit, but tells you that your face looks much different when all's said and done.

"So, think this will work?" she asks.

Sansha looks down, her cheeks turning red. "Thanks."

Gava gives a low growl, turning your attention back to the task at hand. You instruct the sky bison to be careful and behave himself before turning away and heading toward the village.

Sansha walks beside you, the two of you keeping somewhat quiet as you approach your destination. She speaks up soon, asking what sort of supplies you should get while here.

"You know, I think we should all use fake names, too," you tell her.

"Okay, that makes sense," she tells you. "What did you have in mind."

You think that over for a moment. "I'll be called Li Jun, and you can be called Braska."

Sansha tilts her head to the side. "Alright, those names work. You think my swords will stand out too much?"

It's entirely because of the pain and suffering of the mauyafags and lantanafags from having no access to their waifus, so they dropped the quest.

While I'm half kidding, the pain i think we can all say we felt during the 'break up' scene where the party split really was enough to get some of the players to stop coming, or at least show up less frequently. This of course isn't terribly fair, because ultimately it was their choice, not yours (though some of them I'm sure believe it was somehow railroading on your part, which is hilarious and unfair) yet some of those not on the side of the (repeated) majority vote to ultimately leave are taking out on you i would think by refusing to play.

Quest playerbases can be irrational, not to say everyone is this way. Seems to me like It's just a perfect shitstorm of circumstance.

You wait for a moment as she heads back toward Gava, watching the village as your companion puts her blade away. You notice some small kayaks occasionally moving away from the village, and what looks like a pair of larger riverboats docked at the edge of the village.

The two of you elect to return to Gava, making your way out of the village. As an extra precaution, the two of you take many turns and winding paths, trying to make sure that nobody's following you.

You don't see anybody, so everything seems to be alright. The two of you leave the village, but for some reason, you can't shake the feeling that somebody was following you, despite the fact that you saw nothing.

Halfway back to Gava, you hear a woman's voice behind you.

"Excuse me," she calls. "Can you help me?"

Turning around, you find yourself looking at a woman, probably in her early twenties, with shoulder-length black hair, blue eyes, and a sweet smile on her face. A pair of swords are strapped to her waist, and her hands are empty.

At this point my only hope that either we or Sasha manage to give Kalana's such a crippling wound she won't be able to use her trick against the avatar. Or we die together with her and Sasha returns to tell Lanata and Mauya about our fate. While she leaves the journal we wrote in the library and go home with the journal about our trip with her in the desert. Or even worst, we and sasha both die, and once Lantana finaly goes after Kalana she only finds our first journal and the journal we will be writting in our current adventure in the library.

The woman gasps, bringing a hand to cover her mouth. "Oh, dear. I apologize for the mix up. I mistook you two for some people I was looking for."

She smirks. "It's just a pity that you haven't seen them, because I think they may have lost their bison."

The woman points behind you, and you glance over your shoulder to see a massive shape, mostly encased in Earth, being transported in your direction by a tall, short-haired man also wielding a pair of swords.

"I assume this is yours," the man calls to you and Sansha.

"Oh, no," the woman tells him with a laugh. "That's the thing, we've got the wrong people."

The man looks surprised. "Oh, is that right?"

He turns toward Gava, who can't move a muscle. "Well then, I guess they won't be needing this."

"Alright!" you shout. "We're Sei Fong and Sansha."

"Thought so," the man says before bringing his blade down and stabbing Gava through the head.

The beast lets out a final cry, then goes still as the man rips the blade from his skull, turning toward the two of you with a smirk.

"YOU BASTARD!" Sansha roars, rushing toward the man.

He raises a hand toward her, attempting to manipulate the ground beneath her feet, but Sansha's training allows her to make it past this little trick and close the distance, slashing her sword down at the man, who raises one of his own to block.

As the pair begins to exchange blows, you look toward the woman, who smiles in a way that makes you want to punch her teeth in, and lets out a laugh before ripping up a massive chunk of Earth and throwing it at you.

Ducking beneath the stone, you rise up to find that the woman has launched herself toward you, laughing as she raises her blades to slice at you. Thinking fast, you launch yourself above her, and she rolls with her landing, ending up in a crouch and looking back toward you as you land.

You turn toward her, ripping up a massive chunk of Earth of your own and hurling it right at her. She launches herself over it in a similar manner to what you did, only to find herself falling toward a large pit as she goes to land. You see the smug smile leave her face for a moment as she falls into the hole, but you get the feeling that she isn't done, and rip up another stone projectile.

Sure enough, she launches herself out of the hole, looking more angry than hurt, but that anger turns to fear as you hurl your projectile, striking her in the chest and causing her to crash and roll away ending up on her back.

The man, still swordfighting with Sansha, glances toward the woman, bringing the hilt of one of his blades up to slam into Sansha's jaw, giving him the chance to disengage and position himself between you and his ally.

"We're switching partners," he tells the woman as she gets back to her feet.

"No, I'll tear out his throat myself!" the woman hisses.

"Don't ever turn your back on me!" Sansha roars, striking at the woman, who manages to parry just in time before the two begin to engage one another in a sword duel.

As the two women battle behind him, the man takes a moment to look you over, possibly looking for weak points.

"You don't mind switching things up, do you?" he asks, his swords lowered at his sides. "My friend can be a bit obnoxious, so you might find me better company."

"Being polite won't make things better for you," you warn. "You're going to pay for what you did to Gava."

The man smirks. "Well then, let's see if you're as good as they say."

Doing a fast bit of bending, you're able to knock the man off of his feet by shifting the ground beneath him. He recovers quickly, but by that point, you've already used your bending to take the Hunter Blades off of Gava and bring them to your hands, rushing forward to engage the man as he gets up, and attacking him with a quick series of strikes.

He manages to keep you from landing any fatal blows, but one gets far too close for comfort, leaving a nice gash in his cheek. Snarling, he lands a solid kick in your chest that knocks you back, but you quickly roll away and get back to your feet, standing to face your foe.

Moving your arms, you rip a chunk of Earth up behind your foe, hurling it at his back. Unfortunately, he figures out what you're doing, glancing over his shoulder and quickly moving out of the way, leaving the boulder sailing right toward you.

You prepare yourself to break through it, but your arms are suddenly forced away from your body, stretching out on either side and leaving you totally exposed. The rock smashes into you, knocking the breath from your lungs and the swords from your hands as you're thrown back, sprawled out on the ground.

Chuckling, the man raises his arms.

Moving as fast as you can, you raise your arm and use your bending to hurl one of the Hunter Blades at your foe, somehow managing to catch him completely off-guard.

The man howls in pain as the blade stabs into his chest, causing him to halt whatever action he was attempting to take, and giving you the chance to open a colossal pit beneath him, sending him screaming into the darkness below.

The woman, still battling Sansha, glances in the direction of the scream, cursing to herself as she pushes your friend back.

"This isn't over," she vows, vanishing as the Earth beneath her opens into a pit, closing behind her seconds later.

Sansha falls to her knees, drenched in sweat and breathing heavily. As you approach her, you see that she's gained several bruises, but doesn't seem to have any major injuries. However, she looks like she's about to pass out.

Encouraging Sansha to lean on you, you use your Earthbending to twist the blade, making your foe cry out as his pain is renewed. Deciding not to give opportunities for things to go wrong, you bring the blade to his heart, ending his life, and the battle.

But, the woman has escaped, and you believe what she said.

"This isn't over"

Sansha sighs, stepping away from you just a bit and turning toward Gava. "We should bury him, shouldn't we?"

"That seems like a good idea," you tell Sansha, sing your bending to create a hole in which to bury the bison.

After taking your things off of Gava's body (including the saddle), you give your flying friend a respectful burying, both you and Sansha staying and shedding some tears over the loss of the bison before moving on, searching the corpse of the man for anything of value.

You're pleased to discover that he has five gold pieces on his person. And, you're sure that his swords would be worth a few silver. Money shouldn't be too much trouble, at least for a while.

"So," Sansha sighs. "Now what?"

The two of you go for haircuts, with Sansha getting her hair cut to shoulder length, and done in a ponytail. You, on the other hand, get something that is sure to stand out.

You aren't sure what possesses you to get a pompadour, but by the spirits, that's what you have when all is said and done. Sansha seems to be trying her damnedest not to laugh as the two of you walk through the village, and you find yourself glad it's not Mauya with you. She would never let you hear the end of it.

"So, now what should we do?" Sansha asks. "Try hiring one of those riverboats to take us South?"

You shrug. "Look, this style thing is a hairy situation. We may have to mullet over."

Sansha bursts into laughter, hunching over and drawing more eyes your way.

"Well, your hair looks good, at least," you tell her, trying to make her stop laughing.

This works, and her laughter stops. She gives you a shy smile, thanking you for the compliment.

However, an instant later, a pillar of Earth shoots up between the man's legs, slamming into his crotch, and lifting him off of the ground. He groans in pain, dropping his hammer and bringing his hands down to his nuts as the crowd engages in another round of laughter.

Picking yourself up, you see the man get down from the pillar, slamming his right hand, clenched into a fist, into his left palm, and glaring down at you murderously.

"NOW WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT MY HAIR?!" you scream in the man's face.

"I-it's cool!" the man sobs, falling face-first into the dirt.

"DOES ANYBODY ELSE HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT MY HAIR?!" you ask, looking around at the crowd.

Nobody says a word, though a few people back away or frantically shake their heads.

With that settled, you walk past a bewildered Sansha, heading for the docks.

After your violent work in the village, you don't have much trouble talking your way onto a riverboat. For a mere ten silver pieces, you and Sansha are allowed to ride the boat South, making travelling to your destination quicker, and hopefully safer.

As the other passengers and crew of the boat go about their business (mostly trying to avoid you), you sit near the edge with Sansha, the two of you watching trees, rocks, and animals go by as the boat travels down the river.

Sansha stares ahead, a thoughtful look on her face as she takes in the sights. She seems rather interested in what's out there, from plants to animals to people, but you can tell her thoughts aren't entirely focused there.

For now, you decide to remain silent, just looking ahead and soon losing yourself in your own thoughts.

This "journey" of yours has not gone very well so far. Gava's already dead, and you've had a run-in with a couple of people who seemed to know the Hunter, and wanted to take you down like he did. Bounty hunters, you guess, but the woman seemed to dismiss that sort of label, so you aren't entirely sure what they are.

And that's another problem; the woman escaped. Her and her friend killed your bison, and came somewhat close to killing you as well. If she's still tailing you, she could be a serious threat.

And then there's the issue of Kalana herself. What in the world are you and Sansha going to do against her by yourselves, especially if she isn't alone? This seems to be a suicide mission, plain and simple.

Your thoughts shift to Lantana and Mauya, as you wonder if you're going to see them again. It's not seeming very likely. Was leaving really the right decision, or have you made a terrible mistake?

Sansha glances your way before looking away again, seeming as if she wanted to say something but decided against it. Maybe she wants to voice the same doubts you're feeling. You know that she was never fully confident that this was the best course of action, and yet she still came with you. She's trusting you with her life, and told you that she owes you as much. You just hope that's not a debt you have to collect any time soon.

"You know, I was thinking about writing a second book, and making it about our journey," you tell Sansha. "That way Lantana and Mauya can read all about what we did when we get back."

Sansha turns her head toward you, and you aren't sure that you like the expression on her face. She doesn't say anything, but that look on her face seems to tell you everything she wants to say.

She doesn't believe that the two of you will make it back.

"The two of us are going to make it back," you promise Sansha.

The girl lets out a sigh. "I hope you're right, Sei. But, things aren't looking so good."

She gets up, telling you that she's going to get some sleep before leaving you alone. By your lonesome, you decide to do some writing, and dedicate most of the trip to that particular activity. However, for whatever reason, your work shows a sharp decline from your previous book, and while you're able to get across what happened as far as recent events, it's not anywhere near the enjoyable read that your last book was.

The riverboat takes you and Sansha past the great divide, and comes to a stop a long way's North from the Si Wong Desert. According to your map, in order to reach the desert, you'll have to make a long journey South, pass through a massive forest, and cross another river. Then, you have the massive desert to deal with without the help of your Sky Bison.

Gathering your things, you and Sansha make your way away from the riverboat, finding yourselves in another small village. Like last time, you see people giving you funny looks, likely due to your hair.

Sansha asks you not to get into another fight.

"So, how are we going to do this?" she asks. "Without Gava, it's going to take us months to reach that library."

>A. Then you'll have to spend months travelling

>B. Maybe you should turn back

>C. Maybe you'll find an animal you can use for transport

>D. Something else
>>
>>1024392
Well, it's probably too late to stop Kalana from doing what she's doing. And even if you turn back now, she might catch you before you can get back to the others

Aren't there sandbenders that can transport you across the desert? See if you can hire some.
>>
>>1024397
>>B. Maybe you should turn back
It's far from ideal but we'll never find a way nearly as fast as a flying bison. It's better to try to minimize the loss at this point.
>>
>>1024419
You haven't reached the desert. Long trip before that
>>
>>1024397
>C
We've gone too far to turn back now.
>>
>>1024397

>C.

As much as I despise what you Anons did to the party and to Gava, I'm well aware the show must go on. We need a new mode of transportation. Something that can burrow or quickly slide through the desert.
>>
>>1024436
You are still far from the desert
>>
>>1024430
Fuck I'm bad at reading. There's no turning back now.

We may not be able to stop Kalana from getting the thing she wants. But maybe we can find something to stop her from using it.

"Maybe we'll find an animal that we can use as transport," you suggest.

"Yeah, and then it'll take a few weeks instead of a few months," Sansha tells you. "Face it, Sei, we can't do this. She's had way too much of a head start. Even if we can find the library, by then she'll be gone, and we won't be able to catch her. For all we know, she already found what she was looking for."

>A. So what, you should turn back after everything?

Let's be honest here, Som wants us to die. He took us splitting the party as permission to go full sadist.

Some increased difficulty is fine, but...after a certain point, it just becomes Game of Thrones. You WANT to invest yourself, but the fact that the characters you like keep dying or having horrible things happen to them makes it just not worth the effort.

After a certain point, the players become numb to the suffering of the character, feeling nothing for the hollow victories that follow. Nobody wants to read about how some optimistic jackass gets his teeth kicked in again and again and again. That happens plenty in real life.

I find This phrase lacking. If it was a wrong move we shouldn't insist in making it. We should retreat and analyse the situation. At least now we know that Kalana has a group of followers. Since there seems to be a group that tries to copy her figthing style, but using different kinds of bending.
>>

Shouldn't waste any more time. Try to get back as soon as possible.

We aren't. We're going to get killed first.

If the quest is still going, I'd say just go back to Latana.

This shit was plain unfortunate. Anons taking the bait, on top of you giving a very convincing red herring. It's all a recipe for disaster. This is also not going to look good on Sei for backing out on his word, essentially making the pain and agony felt by the gang almost in vain.
>>
>>1025310
The best we can do is admit to our mistake and work to make amends. I don't necessarily see this as a bad thing because it gives Sei more conflict. Out of the group, he's so far been the one who seems to keep it together. At least this mixes it up.

I expected this outcome Tbh, i figured if ANYTHING went wrong or enough doubt was raised before we were the majority of the way there, we'd turn back. If you think about this from a story perspective, what we are about to do is lame as hell. "Hey guys i broke your hearts, left, got Gava killed and got a pompadour, accomplished nothing and here i am happy to see me?" This is SO lame. But it isn't set in stone yet, we need to do something of our own, not just go crawling back to the avatar, even if we end up still helping Lantana. We either need to change our mind again and press onward or we need to find our own way to stop Kalana, like rally an army of our own or create our own faction or something.

Lets be a man and take a hard path instead of getting afraid and running back to whats safe.

And for you Som, I'm not particularly mad at you, however i'd like to point out that you need to think about what you expose to a playerbase, and how your unpredictable playerbase might react in a way you might not be prepared for, for the future. Because the same people that vote for plot point A and the ones for B are not all the same people, and they aren't in the same mindset. What you post steers anons quite a bit so think about what you post from our point of view.

Basically anything that isn't finding the quickest way to intercept her or otherwise make it to the library while she is there and hasn't attained THE POWER immediately ends in her succeeding, although letting her succeed gives us the advantage of preparing in other ways.

But Som has mentioned she'll be really bullshit when she becomes the legendary super airbender, so it's a bad idea to let that happen if can help it.

Well we can still turn this into something good for say. HEY! *Slaps forehead* WHY DON'T WE JUST USE THE LIBRARY OURSELVES? >>1026925

And thus Som has spoken. Things aren't as screwed as we all thought. Just owe up that both sides made some errors that lead up to now. Som obviously knows if we keep going down this path with our current conditions, the game will truly be unsalvageable. We just find a way to fast travel back, make amends, and git gud for Kalana. Gava was our idiot tax, and let's hope that tax doesn't get higher, if you know what I mean.

Honestly I dont think the conversation is going to go to badly, everyone will be upset about Gava but we can lay it out like this: we knew we were already up against the odds but felt like we needed to do something, she had hunters out for us and without Gava anymore the odds of our success plummeted, we might be hardheaded but there a difference between that and complete stupidity. Fuck I am so upset about Gava, fuck you Som
>>
>everyone suddenly wants to pussy out
I know that it will be hard, but at this point i think its kind of out of character for us after we put up such a large fight to leave
>>
I support going on our own to free dad or to knock out sansha and go on our own.
Even if we are to late we can learn what that air whore learned and even see if we can learn anything special ourselves.
If fucking dragons had special fire bending for zuko in the series then their may be something great to be found for earth benders in the library.

Lets be honest guys. being the avatar makes lantana strong but shes fucking stupid and being the avatar doesn't stop that.
Fuck, shes basically korra.
>>
>>1027154
Now that you mentioned it. She does...

>>1027120
It's not about pussying out. For fuck sakes most of the anons here come from a player base with Roleplaying games and tabletop. If you can't nove your units fast enough to stop a enemy unit. You need to re-think your moves. This was a risky move before now without Gava it became impossible. Infortunantly, because of a bad action we lost the race to the library. At least this journey helped Sei see that sand it earth and so it will be possible to bend it. What we need to do is keep our trainning and keep getting good.
>>
>>1027120
>>1027154

>Som hinted that it was a red herring to go after Kalana, but allowed us anyways the see how it would go

>To be honest I have no idea why they chose to go on this suicide quest in the first place. But what's done is done. Let's just make something out of this bump in the road. It can add to Sei's character.
As anon that just caught up:
Going to library was good idea.
When spirit of past avatar says that there is danger you should believe it.
Thinking about taking BBEG by ourselves was retarded, but we should go to spirit library give spirit bird our book and ask about what our enemy learned so we could prepare for it. No fighting wit enemy that can end us, and avatar could probably manage without us for some time.
We go in, learn we go out, easy.

But then we were hit but level scaling. In the middle of nowhere we were recognized when bad guys were looking for group of at least four, our only connection with avatar was sky bison that we left in a forest in addition we changed our appearance in a world where photography and fast communication does not exist. Despite that our enemies found us faster then Interpol.
And that guys were at level of Hunter, renowned earth bender(presented as world class guy) it is Oblivion again where every fucking bandit runs in daedric armour.
Why tray to advance when world advances as fast if not faster than we, when it matters?
Sure we can crush some mooks but we are still running into harder and harder opponents where it does not have logical background. As what such great warriors were doing in some backwater?
>>
>>1030629
We must keep the faith alive in these dark times my brother.

>>1030644
I don't disagree with listening to the past Avatar. What was stupid was how quickly anons voted to split up the group as soon as Lantana didn't immediately agree. We were already clearly struggling, dividing our forces in such a situation was shortsighted.

I wouldn't necessarily say that the world has been advancing faster than us. Rather, I just think we bit off much more than we could chew with this diversion. Kalana's army is clearly well organized and capable of swatting us down if we aren't careful. We need to play smarter.
>>
>>1026870
so, hypothetically, can anybody think of an action to produce a 9, with all this despair and argueing I really want to see sei pull through, im sure it's possible to get shoulder deep into this clogged toilet of a story consequence and , should the dice gods allow it, pull out a truly epic underdog comeback
>>
>>1030644
I agree with this anon.
