/qst/ - Quests

In a time of global crisis, an elite international task force known as Overwatch was formed. Soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities: together, they ended the Omnic Crisis and restored peace to a war-torn world. The heroes of Overwatch kept peace for a generation, inspiring an era of exploration, innovation, and discovery.

After many years, Overwatch became troubled, and finally disbanded. World conflict began to rise again. Overwatch was goneā€¦but the world still needed heroes.

You are a young man who's been many things: adventurer, treasure hunter, freedom fighter, and international criminal. Recently you encountered the re-formed Overwatch: a grand title for two ex-agents, Winston and Tracer, operating as outlaws out of an abandoned Watchpoint. Despite their down-and-out-status, or perhaps because of it, you were inspired to join them. You left your old life behind to become the first recruit of the new Overwatch.

Now you and Tracer are travelling the globe, defending the people of the world from harm and searching for potential agents to rebuild Overwatch. The world needs heroes. Maybe you can be one of them.

Previously on Overwatch Quest:

You and Tracer travelled to the badlands of Route 66 in the New West, searching for a certain outlaw. McCree wasn't that hard to find, but your recruitment pitch was interrupted when his old crew, the Deadlock Rebels, brought down a U.S. army train almost right on your heads. The three of you defended an ominous-looking device from Rebels and a mech, and you returned to the Watchpoint with both McCree and the device.

You feel like you and Tracer are developing a friendship, and Reinhardt said he was impressed with your boldness in your battle together.

You will indeed have to ask or observe them to find out more.

You rise early, despite stiffness from yesterday's exertion. The crew quarters is still almost empty. Mercy prefers the privacy of a cot in the medbay, Brigitte and Reinhardt claim to be used to sleeping next to the heat of the portable forge, and McCree said something about sleeping under the stars. So it's still just you and Tracer in the dormitory. You don't wake her up, but you steal a look at her sleeping face as you pass. She snores quietly. It's cute to see her so unguarded.

You watch the news on your pad as you eat breakfast, now featuring actual coffee from the grocery drone.

Last night there was some kind of major incident in Egypt. Helix Security was called in, a private army of badasses you've had more than one run-in with yourself. Authorities are denying any breaches, claiming that god-program "Anubis" is still safely imprisoned in its containment facility.

"Athena, what do you know about this?"

"I can confirm a Helix Security team at the Temple of Anubis," she says. "And violence between them and drones. Anubis could perhaps have hacked them using short-range proxies without a major containment breach."

"If Anubis did breach containment, get a part of itself loose on the web. Would you know?"

"Uncertain."

"That's not the confident yes I was hoping to hear. Keep tabs that for me, will you?"

"Understood, Seeker."

Afterwards, you go to the ...

Mercy did most of the work you need on that steam burn yesterday. She told you to check in again tomorrow morning, but you'll take care of that after you check in on your robot pal.

You head over to the server room, wondering if there's some way you can install a skylight. When you see the several thousand tons of rock overtop, you decide probably not. At least the doorway is wide open, so Bastion's bird can get in and out. You can hear it somewhere out there now, tweeting away merrily.

Inside the room, Bastion is standing in the exact place you left him, as if no time has passed. When he sees you, he beeps a few times and waves to you.

"Hey, Bastion. Hope you're holding up all right. I wonder if you get bored?"

"I bet you're feeling cooped up in here. Why don't I take you on a walk? I can give you a tour of the base."

Bastion beeps affirmitively.

"All right, let me just put this scan on hold for the moment--" The diagnostic results are still inconclusive, you note as you pause it. "Disconnect all these cables ... and ... okay, we're good. Let's go."

You take Bastion around the base, thinking about how Tracer did something similar for you when you first arrived here. He clatters after you obedientely with rhythmic steps, swiveling its head around, taking it all in with his cycloptic eye.

You bring him down through the dip past Brigitte's forge, show him the communications array and the entrance to Winston's lab. The bird returns with another twig for the nest on Bastion's shoulder, then perches there while you return to the hangar. "That's the Aurora," you say. "Remember you came here on that?" The Bastion beeps in agreement.

You think about how strange this thing is, this being. How does a combat robot, built to protect humans and rewritten by a vengeful AI, somehow end up as this tabula rasa?

"All right, we better get you back," you say. "I'm sure Winston wants those scans done asap."

Returning to the server room, you say, "Maybe I can get you a kid pad. It's a data pad but only loaded with a bunch of educational programs. It can teach you the alphabet and stuff. Most important, no link to the outside, so no-one gets mad at me for handing a net link to an anomalous omnic. You can learn to read, how to count, what sound a cow makes ... great stuff."

Bastion beeps in agreement.

You get him plugged back into the computers, restart the scan, and head to the medbay.

As you approach the medbay, you see a glow of yellow light. Entering, you see Mercy is wearing her famous Valkyrie swift-response suit, the pinnacle of battlefield medic technology.

"Hello, Seeker," she says. "Thank you for coming."

"Hey, doc. I see you got the Valkyrie up and running."

"Yes, this old thing took some tuning up after so long in storage. But I finished the process just this morning. It still fits!" she adds, demonstrating. It does, indeed, fit very well.

"With this," she says. "I'll be able to get back out into the field. I imagine I'll be a little rusty, but I'll still be able to keep you safe out there. Now, are you ready for your follow-up visit?"

"Sure. I think you fixed me up pretty good yesterday, but if you want to take another look at it, that's okay with me."

"It's good for a doctor to check in on her patient's condition. If you'll sit there, please?"

She hums pleasantly to herself as she prepares, then begins to examine the mostly-healed remnants of your burn wound, calm and focused. Once again you find your body under the close scrutiny of an intensely beautiful woman. To distract yourself, you say to her ...

"What do you think about all this?" you ask her. "This "new Overwatch" thing."

"It's ... a bold idea, for certain. One might say reckless, or foolhardy. I might also say noble, or heroic. Or something worth giving your life to." She continues her examination. "I spent many years with the first Overwatch. I argued many times with Jack and the others over our purpose, our true goals. Perhaps now we can be what I always hoped."

"And what is that?" you ask.

"A force for protection and healing," she says. "Nothing more. I understand that sometimes protection must be ... proactive. But that can be taken too far. I didn't agree with the weaponizing of biotic technology, or with some of the measures the others were willing to take to achieve their ends. I did my best to prevent us from going down that road. Somehow we were all able to find a balance." She stands back. "The biotics have done their work. You're in quite good health, Seeker, I'm pleased to say."

"Good to hear," you say, pulling your shirt back down. "This is all a pretty big legacy to live up to. How am I doing so far?"

"It's yet early days," she says. "But you've certainly made efficient use of your time. Lena tells me you'd barely settled in before you came to Switzerland to meet me? And then before the week was out, you'd battled omnics with Reinhardt in Germany, recruited a tame Omnic, and fought mechanized outlaws in America with McCree. Quite the whirlwind beginning to your Overwatch career. Keep it up, and perhaps someday you'll have your own action figure." She winks at you, and you recall your awkward first meeting.

"Right, er, thanks."

"Now if I recall, the others wanted to speak to you? Brigitte said something about finding blueprints, and Winston has been up all night in the lab. I think they're both excited to have new opportunities to work."

"All right, I'll see what they have in mind. Thanks for the check-up ..."

So we know that the events of the comics and the shorts have happened or are happening as this quest goes along. We also know that, as the quest has shown, Fareeha's still head of her squad at Helix Security and it can be assumed that McCree's comic was finished a fucklong time ago.

It can be assumed, then, that
>Ana, 76, and Reaper could all be operating in Egypt at this time, as per their comic
>Mei is still frozen in Antarctica
>Torbjorn is still derping about in Sweden with his wife and eighty-seven children
>Genji and Hanzo are off derping about in Japan
>D.va and Lucio are off derping anywhere in the world because celebrities
>Zarya is fending off the Second Omnic Crisis in Siberia
>Sombra is working with Team Talon, as of now
>Zenyatta is derping about the world because tranquility
>Genji and Hanzo are derping about in Japan
>The Junkers are too busy telling the Immortan to go shove it down in Straya to care about much else

Plenty of trekking to do, plenty of characters to get. I'd suggest we pick up Torbjorn next for his technical expertise, then maybe Jack, Ana, and Fareeha if they become available--if not, let's grab Mei. Everyone else, sad to say, can wait--though a second tank character would go very nice toward rounding out our roster.

While we ruminate on our choices, I'll leave you all with this bit of concept art of the game that was reshaped into Overwatch--Project Titan.

no actually we have not
i think a mass driver/railgun would fit the magnet theme. but a energy gun would be a simpler design

Plasma would also fit as plasma needs to be stored in a magnetic field. Plus, our sword is a plasma blade.
>>
>>1022979
plasma railgun
mmm... i want
>>
If I might chime in, I would point out that a rail or coil gun would be best. Since they would penetrate stuff.
>>
>>1022990
>>1022993

I can abide a railgun Magnum. A magnetic hand cannon. It would have to be weaker than McCree's gun but it has Armor Piercing capabilities.
>>
>>1023015
You have just gave me an idea for a passive;

"Piercing ammunition - Shot has a (10%?) chance to bypass shields and armour. Doing damage to target health."

Or alternatively

"Cracker shots - Ammo has a (10%?) of doing double damage to shields and armour. No damage from shot carries over to health."

This allows the carrier to much more effectively fight people with armour or shields galore like Reinhardt, zenyatta or such. Though I admit balancing these would be very hard without making the chance tiny.
>>
>>1023015
>>1023038

No matter what it fires, we can agree we switch it from gun to sword mode by spinning it around in our hand.

You almost call Mercy "Angela". For a moment, thoughts of lewd hand-holding flash through your mind. But that would be moving a little too fast. You settle on something more in the middle of the informality scale. "Thanks for the check-up, Doc."

She doesn't seem to mind. "See you later, Seeker."

You head over to the "Engineering Bay" which is actually just a large storage room at the bottom of the valley in the road, where Brigitte has set up her forge. She and Reinhardt are there now.

Reinhardt booms, "Good morning, my friend! As you see, I am once more fit as a fiddle." He demonstrates by flexing his massive arms. "I am prepared to return to the field!"

"Good to hear, Reinhardt. How's it going, Brigitte?"

"It's going," she says. "Please tell me you plan on getting some more staff, or at least repairing some janitor drones? I don't fancy being Overwatch's only non-agent support staffer as a long-term plan."

"Thanks."

"In the meantime, just concentrate on keeping our gear in one piece. You've done a bang-up job with that Crusader armor, I'm sure you can handle the rest of our stuff as well." You address Reinhardt. "How you feeling, old-timer? Looking forward to getting back out there?"

"Absolutely," he says. "A fire is in my blood, that I have not felt for many years. The agents of injustice shall soon feel my hammer!"

"That's the kind of enthusiasm we need," you say. "We'll get you something to hit soon enough. Oh, right. Brigitte, you wanted to see me about something? Mercy mentioned blueprints?"

"Right. Check this out. I've been looking over some of the old designs for Overwatch armor, okay? Turns out some of it's remarkably similar to the schematics for your Ares M-Tech gear. For anyone not familiar with the game mechanics: Armor reduces damage taken from each attack by a small amount, making it effective against rapid-fire weapons. Shields regenerate after a short period of not taking damage.

"I like the idea of that light armor suit," you say. "How does it make me run faster, exactly?"

"It's more a matter of reducing the weight on everything, so you can access your full athletic potential," Brigitte says. "It also clings tightly to the wearer's body, enhancing endurance and strength by mirroring anatomy." She clears her throat, perhaps trying not to think about a suit clinging tightly to your anatomy. "For now, there's enough scrap in the abandoned sections of the base for me to work with. Once I get it melted down in the forge here, I can get started."

"I look forward to it," you say. "I'm glad you came with Reinhardt. I had a feeling an armorer would be a good person to have around."

"That we are," she says. "After all, you fighting types always get your gear busted and come crawling back to us sooner or later."

You look at Reinhardt and shrug. "Can't deny that."

"All too true," he admits. "Without Brigitte, my armor would have long fallen to pieces." And perhaps myself as well, he doesn't add, but you get the implication.

Athena's chirp sounds privately on your communicator. "Excuse me, will you? Keep me up to date on that armor, Brigitte."

You exit Engineering, which maybe you'll start calling the Forge. It's got a better ring to it. "Athena, what's up?"

"Crisis update," she says. "Boklovo, capital of Kurjikstan, is under attack by an Omnic."

"Okay -- wait, did you say AN Omnic? One?"

"Yes."

"So ..."

"It's a very big one," she says, pulling open a vid feed.

An armored mech the size of a small apartment building stomps across the city, smashing cars under its feet, firing shoulder-mounted ordnance at fighter jets swooping overhead.

"Oh. I see the problem."

"Former agent Torbjorn Lindholm is en route to Boklovo from his home in Sweden. What would you like to do, Seeker?"

have athena inform them while we get ready
>>
You decide to gather the other agents and inform them of the situation. You should also contact Torbjorn. You've never met the man yourself, though, and you suspect he wouldn't be interested in taking a call from a stranger at this time; so maybe you'll let one of the other agents handle that call.

"Athena, can you tell everyone about the situation? Get them suited up and ready to meet in the briefing room. Have one of them -- Winston, I guess -- contact Torbjorn."

"Acknowledged."

Reinhardt is standing by the door to the Forge. "What is about, Seeker?"

"Trouble in Kurjikstan," you say. "Titan class Omnic on the rampage. Your pal Torbjorn is already on his way."

"My goodness. That does sound like Torbjorn, to take on a Titan all by himself. At least he'll fit inside quite easily," he adds, and chuckles. "What shall we do? We should assist him, but he's never been one to accept help easily."

"That's what we're going to figure out," you say.

(Continued)
>>
You enter the briefing room, checking over your gear for the third time. The other five agents are here, and they're geared up with the exception of Reinhardt, who would barely fit into this room in his Crusader armor.

Winston is typing away at the computer in the corner with a scowl on his face. "Still no luck contacting Torbjorn. I can't get a signal."

McCree scratches his head under his cowboy hat. "Er ... did ya try turning it off and on again?" Winston turns around and glares at McCree. The outlaw shrugs. "Hey, that's what you always used to tell me whenever something around here went on the fritz."

Winston grunts. "If only I had my communications satellite online ..."

"Even if we can't contact him," says Reinhardt. "We must help. I'm sure he plans on fighting zis battle alone. He may even succeed, tenacious little man that he is. But I cannot take the chance that he would fall without us. I must stand by him."

"I agree," says Mercy. "We should attend to the disaster. I can provide aid to the victims of the assault."

"I think you know how much I love playing cavalry," says Tracer.

McCree touches the brim of his hat. "I'm ready to saddle up."

"Then we're agreed," says Winston. "The only question is, who should go? The Aurora could technically fit all of us, although ..." he coughs. "It would be a little cramped back there in the passenger seats. It would also leave our base undefended except for the automated security. And personally, I'm not yet comfortable leaving the Bastion here alone. We can't be sure it doesn't have some kind of Talon sleeper program ready to activate."

"Probably at least one of us should stay behind," you agree. "I think our strike team should be ..."

It's big and has enough firepower to raze a city block to the ground--let's aim for joints and weak points in the armor.

Otherwise, just help civillians and wounded out of the AO and let the comic take its path with Torbs infiltrating the unit

You know what yeah I wanna bring Bastion, gonna add Bastion to my vote.

Torb might warm up to him better if he sees Bastion fighting on their side. It might also be a good time to instill some values and morals on Bastion, if he's learned enough to understand.

"See those people, Bastion? They're hurt, they're afraid. Evil will threaten the innocent, destroy the nests they've worked hard to build for themselves and their families. It's our job to protect them, to save them."

".. our strike team should be Mercy, Reinhardt, Tracer, and myself," you say. "McCree, you're still dealing with a gunshot wound, you should wait until you're at a hundred percent."

McCree opens his mouth to object, but is silenced from a frosty stare from Mercy. "Have I cleared you for action, McCree?"

He tips his hat. "No, ma'am."

"Someone has to walk the Bastion," you say.

McCree sighs. "I didn't join Overwatch -- again -- for robot-walkin' duty. But I hear ya. I'll hold down the fort."

"Winston," you say. "More than any of us, you can help from here. Keep trying Torbjorn on the comms, and try to find out what you can about Titan-class Omnics, or what's gone wrong with this one."

"Understood," he says. "I'll do what I can."

"You three, we're the strike team. Team Eurobeat. I mean," you add in response to their puzzled looks. "Strike Team Alpha. Once Reinhardt gets armored up, we'll take off."

"I shall go right away," announces Reinhardt. He strides off to the Forge, shouting, "We shall prove ourselves in glorious combat!"

"Do what you think is best," you say to her. "I trust your judgement."

She smiles. "Thanks for the vote of confidence."

You ask Tracer, "Ever dealt with something like this before?"

"Rampaging omnics? Definitely. Something this size? Not exactly, no. Titan-class is pretty rare outside of Russia."

"What do you think Torbjorn's going to do?" you ask her.

"Well, Torb knows all about Omnics. A lot of his designs were used as base models. The Titan might even be one of 'em. And he ain't a man for subtlety, or going around something when he could go straight through." She thinks a moment. "Wouldn't be surprised if he found some access hatchway, went right inside the thing, and switched it off from in there."

"That sounds like him," agrees Mercy.

"All right, so we'll assume that's what his plan is." The three of you reach the Aurora in the hangar. "How are you two feeling?"

"Ready to rock and roll," says Tracer.

"A bit nervous," admits Mercy. "I haven't been shot at or almost exploded for several years."

Tracer grins. "It's just like riding a bike, Angie. You'll get back into it in no time. And besides, we've got your back out there."

When Reinhardt arrives, the four of you board the Aurora, and begin the journey east to Kurjikstan.

As >>1025580 hints at, the Christmas comic and the implication that Tracer is fully gay has been thrown out for the purposes of the quest. As far as the quest is concerned, Tracer broke it off with Ema because she didn't want to put a civilian in danger. She's also eligible for Seeker's affections because she is at least bisexual, not a full lesbian.

It's probably good to have a discord. Soundtrack discussion is cool and all, but it is rather cluttering the thread. Thanks for working on playlist ideas. I haven't had a chance to listen through it yet, or think on Seeker's music choices. In general I agree that there should be some sort of theme or genre, but there's probably room for a handful of out-of-genre "greatest hits". I'll probably have a vote on genres at some point. You and the others spend a few tense hours flying east, across the Mediterranean, over the sand dunes, and into the rocky hills of Kurjikstan. The tall buildings of the capital Boklovo come into view, along with plumes of smoke from the destruction. As you watch, you see another one rise into the sky. Soon you can see the Kurjik air force, swooping through the air, dodging anti-aircraft fire, and shooting missiles at the target you can't quite see yet.

Tracer activates the radio. "This is Agent 7A requesting Protocol Diamond. Repeat, this is Agent 7A, Protocol Diamond. Any agents listening, please respond."

The radio fizzles and squeals with interference. For a moment, you think you hear a voice.
"Torb, are you there? Can you hear me? It's Lena!"

"---of here, lass-----ye can't---"

"Torb! That was defintely him. Torb, can you hear me?" says Tracer. She fiddles with the radio controls. "Dammit! Too much static. It's like he's in a sewer or something."

The thundering booms of anti-aircraft guns get louder as the Aurora approaches the hot zone. "I think we've got more immediate concerns," you say.

"What should we do?" asks Tracer.

"Let's land this thing first," you say. "Then we'll figure out what we're dealing with."

Why am I the one giving orders? you think, but don't actually say out loud. It's not something you're doing on purpose. You get ideas, you have the confidence to voice them, and other people seem to agree with them. Athena said her "personality analysis matrix" had determined you were the most suitable leader. Maybe there was something to that.

The Aurora lands. You and the other three agents gather outside, looking up at the gigantic mech stomping through the city. Police units, both human and Omnic, with drone assistants, usher frightened civilians away from the destruction.

"This will be a glorious day!" proclaims Reinhardt. "To fell a Titan was a great honor for any Crusader. Today you shall join me in that honor."

"So, er ..." Tracer twirls her pistols nervously. "Any idears on how we're actually gonna fight something the size of a building?"

Mercy readies her Caduceus Staff. "I'm going to aid the victims--"

"Hold on," you say. "I think we've got trouble."

You've spotted that the nearby Omnics and drones are acting strangely. Their single amber eyes flicker in and out, then turn a deep crimson. The Omnics explode, while the drones turn on the nearby humans and start to attack them. Fright turns to terror, and screams fill the air.

"They've been corrupted!" Without hesitating, Reinhardt strides forward and begins to pummel the red-light drones with the Rocket Hammer. "Do not hold back, my friends!"

"So much for just fighting one thing at a time," you say, and take your weapon out.

"Mercy," you say. "Help Reinhardt protect the civilians. Tracer and I will deal with the Titan."

"Are you sure?" she asks. "I don't want to leave you without support--"

"Don't worry, luv," says Tracer. "Me and Seeker have got this."

"All right, but call us if you need assistance." Mercy's staff begins to emit a blue beam that curves through the air and attachs itself to Reinhardt. Blue energy flows from her staff to the Crusader. "Damage boost engaged!"

"I feel powerful! Let's fight!" Reinhardt runs forward into the corrupted drones, each blow of his hammer smashing another into pieces. Scrap and metal fly high into the air. "Haha! Is that all?!" Some of the civilians slow to gape at the huge armored knight crashing into their attackers.

"All right, Tracer," you say to her. "You and me again. Let's do this."

"I'll see you there, mate. Unless you think can keep up with me?" Tracer blinks away, giggles, waves to you, and runs off.

"Oh, it's on," you say.

You do your best to keep up with her, dodging obstacles with your parkour skills and gravity manipulation, but she's just too fast for you. When I get that light armor Brigitte told me about, you think. Then we'll see about this.

The two of you find cover behind a large piece of debris, and look up at the gigantic mech. It's paused for a moment to trade salvos with the aircraft swooping around it. Looking aroud its feet for a possible way inside, you spot a manhole open up, and a small figure get out, clad in some kind of white hazard suit.

"Could that be Torbjorn?" you ask.

Tracer checks. "He's about the right size. Should we get his attention?"

"Let's wait and see what he does," you say. "He must be planning something."

The two of you watch as the man -- probably Torbjorn, as you're not sure what other dwarf with a mechanical claw hand might just happen to be here right now -- walks confidently up to the robot's foot. He clambers up onto one of its toes. You expect some kind of defensive countermeasure to go off, but nothing happens.

"That suit," you say. "It must be shielding him from the robot's sensors. It doesn't know he's there."

You see Torbjorn slowly pulling open a heavy door into some kind of access hatch. It looks like he's preparing to go inside the giant mech.

"Tracer," you say. "Think you can distract that thing without getting yourself blasted to pieces?"

"Only one way to find out," she says.

"I was hoping for something more along the lines of, "Yes, Seeker, I definitely won't get blasted to pieces.""

"What's life without a little risk? What are you gonna do?"

"Try to contact Torbjorn again," you say. "We might have a short window here now that he's out of the sewer. Good luck."

Tracer hops out of cover, waves at the giant robot. "Hiya!" Some of the smaller guns on its lower half swivel to target her, begin firing. The ordinance blasts craters into the ground. Tracer weaves through it all in a blue streak.

You activate your communicator. "Mr. Lindholm, can you hear me?"

"Who the hell are ye, boy?" you hear a distinctly annoyed Swede say in your ear. "How did ye get this channel?"

"Long story short, I'm here with Tracer. We want to help."

Torbjorn curses. "Yer here, then? Ye've got a nine second window before Lena gets turned to ash. If ye want to help, get in here, boy, now!"

Don't argue with the dwarf, you think. "On it."

You break cover, sprint forward, counting the seconds in your head. As you pass Tracer, you shout, "Four seconds, then run!"

"Roger!"

You high-jump up onto the mech's foot. Some of the mech's larger guns have swivelled to point down at Tracer. Fortunately, Torbjorn's timing was just right. She blinks away from the barrage, and you make it to the safety of the access hatch before the guns can re-target.

"Phew," you say. "You called that one right."

"I should hope so," says the dwarf as he begins to shed his hazard suit. The blonde-beared Torbjorn in his traditional red and gunmetal armor steps out. "I designed the damn thing, I know its defenses inside and out. And by the by, who the hell are you, and what're ye doin' here?"

"Well, twenty-seven years ago in Canada, my mom and dad ..." You see Torbjorn scowl, and segue on. "I'm Seeker, Tracer's teammate. I'm here to help you stop this thing. That'll have to do for now. What do you need from me?"

"Fer now, boy, just follow me and keep yer head down. Anything shoots at you, shoot back at it. Fer example, those drones," he says, drawing his rivet gun with one hand as he points above and behind you with the other. You look up to see a ladder leading up, and three hover drones flying down, energy weapons glowing as they charge.

Close quarters in here. Torbjorn is fine, but you can barely stand. Not enough room for your grav boots to be of much use right now. And your magnetic shield is probably useless against those lasers.

With a quick spin of your weapon, you transform into gun mode, and fire upwards at the descending drones. You tag one, and it blasts into fragments. But the other two return fire more quickly than you expected, blue lances of energy flashing out and incinerating sections of your chest armor. You stagger back, feeling a scorching heat in your chest, your armor smouldering.

HP: 160/200

Torbjorn steps forward. With a barrage of rivets from his gun, he destroys the other two. "You okay, lad?"

"Fine," you say between gritted teeth. "Things were faster than I expected."

"Internal defense system," he says. "The tins cans installed ones like these in the Crisis. But this is something else." He bends down and examines one of the shattered drones. "Upgraded with microthrusters. I recognize this work. Hrmph."

You look up at a security camera. Right about now, you think. Is when a villain would start harassing the heroes, telling them about his superior philosophy. But the speakers remain silent.

"So who is it?" you ask Torbjorn.

"Old colleague of mine," he says. "Man name of Sven. Not someone whose company I enjoyed. He cheated his way around problems, then mocked me as a "bulldozer" for respectin' the problem and not just goin' around 'em. That isn't the way of an engineer."

It's definitely the way of a criminal, you think, but you keep that observation to yourself for now.

Torbjorn takes a moment to throw the shattered pieces of drone into the forge he carries on his back. "Can always use more scrap," he says.

You follow Torbjorn up a ladder, leading to a bright yellow door. "There's a serious turret on the other side of this door," he says. "Fortunately, I brought a friend of my own." He tosses a red machine forward. It rights itself in mid-air, clamps a tripod of feet down on the ground, and extends a machine gun. Torbjorn pulls out his forge hammer, and with a few decisive hammer blows, expands the turret into a double-barreled autocannon.

"Neat," you say. "That's crazy how you can just whack it with your hammer and it grows like that."

"No use designing a gun if you can't build it right quick," he says. "Get yerself ready. When that door blows, hell's gonna break loose."

"Register me for IFF," you say. "I can your shield your turret."

Torbjorn looks at you for a moment, sizing you up. Then he pulls out a small personal datapad, quickly taps in an input. "Done. You've got blue shields," he says. Your shield and his guns are now synced, so his turret can fire through your barrier. "Don't get yourself killed."

You step forward, flexing your left hand. When Winston finished your Shadowshot gauntlet, he also helped you move the magnetic shield tech over from your weapon to your left hand. It's more convenient this way, you figured, and it also makes you look cooler. You've got a real sword and shield like some kind of badass knight.

Torbjorn begins to wire the door. "Get ready." He shortly finds the right pair of wires, and the door slides open.

The two turrets open up on each other, each firing two machine guns apiece. If it weren't for your helmet, the gunfire would deafen you. It takes some nerve to step into that river of bullets, but you steel yourself and move in. You keep yourself just far enough out of the doorway so Torbjorn's turret isn't striking you right in the back, and call up your shield. A crackling plasma aura fills the air, and the enemy turret's bullets slam into it as though suddenly entering a slow-motion zone.
With the added protection, Torbjorn's turret easily dispatches its counterpart. You drop your shield, and the bullets clatter harmlessly to the ground.

"Not bad," says Torbjorn. "Reminds me of an old friend of mine."

The ground lurches, and your stomach does a flip, as the robot takes a large step. Outside you hear an explosion.

"We'd better keep moving," you say. "Lead the way."

Torbjorn leads you up another ladder and through a cramped hallway. "I expected Sven to be gloating by now," he says. "Wonder what's going through his head."

You come to the doorway. Torbjorn smashes the control panel with his fist. The door slides open. "Let's see what he has to say for himself," he says, and steps inside.

This room is the cockpit. A man in a blue and white control suit sits in the pilot's chair.

"Sven, ye bastard," says Torbjorn, stepping forward. "What possessed you to do something like this? Eh?"

Silence from the man in the chair.

"What were you thinking? All those people?" Torbjorn's fury is mounting. "Answer me, dammit!" He strides forward, and grabs the man's arm.

The man's head rolls back at an awkward angle. His faceplate is cracked with a bullet hole.

"Sven," gasps Torbjorn. "He's dead! My god. I didn't want this -- ye deserved to rot in a cell for this, but ... but this?" He turns to you, at a loss.

"No time for mysteries," you tell Torbjorn. "Shut this thing down!"

"Y-you're right," he says. "Help me get him out of the chair."

The two of you drag the corpse from the pilot's chair. Torbjorn gets in, calls up a touch-screen, and rapidly starts going through the mech's programming.

Despite what you said to Torbjorn, you can't help looking at the body on the floor and thinking, what could have done this? You quickly look around for a sniper hole. "Could he have been shot from outside?"

"We're almost in the center of the beast," the dwarf says. "Unless ye've got a rifle that can penetrate multiple reinforced walls of titanium and plasteel, I don't think so."

"Could the robot have been hacked?"

"That's what I'm trying to find out--"

The screen suddenly turns black. A pair of glowing crimson orbs appear against the darkness, like the "evil villain eyes" but perfect circles. A deep voice comes from the speaker, announcing something in a language you don't understand.

The door slams shut behind you.

"Oh no," you say, running to the door. "No no no -- dammit! We're trapped." A toxic-looking gas starts to seep out of the air vents. You look back at Torbjorn, hooking up his personal control pad to the cockpit. "Torbjorn?!"

"I'm givin' it all I've got, lad!" he shouts, frantically typing on his pad. "Almost there --"

The mech shakes. The mist is growing thicker. Your helmet HUD is blazing environmental hazard warnings at you. "Torbjorn!!"

"Alllmoossst theeerrre-- ahaa!"

You hear a massive CLUNK. The floor shifts. The mech grinds to a halt, and stops moving.

The vents hiss as regular air starts to come in again, cycling out the toxic gas. Your helmet's warnings fade from red to yellow.

"Okay," you say, trying to calm your heartbeat. "Okay. We're good. We're fine. Everything's fine. Are you fine?"

Torbjorn burps. His skin is starting to turn a strange color. "Actually--"

"Oh." Torbjorn's not wearing a mask like you are. His stomach can reportedly handle a molten nanite solution, but you have no idea what upgrades, if any, his lungs have. They could be baseline organic for all you know. "Damn. Okay, Torb. I'm going to get you out of here. Just hold on ..."

Thats just a multiplayer shooter. It's from on of the comic's blizzard released. http://comic.playoverwatch.com/en-us/torbjorn-destroyer
If you want to find out more about Overwatch lore and the characters watch some of the trailers, read the comics and the wiki.

Rolling for how fucked we are
>>
>>1026353
HELL NAH!
>>
>>1026349
Wouldn't it be cool if we assist Tracer and Winston in the museum heist from the trailer?
>>
>>1026345
She couldn't get inside as she had to draw fire away from you, sorry if I wasn't specific about that.
>>
>>1026357
could be worse.
>>
>>1026360
they already did that
>>
>>1026357
Eh, only slightly fucked then.

Gotta say it's agood thing we decided to follow him in there. Whose to say how bad off Torb would've been if he got caught in that gas cloud and then there was no one to carry him out and get him to a medic.
>>
>There are people who didn't want to bring best girl
We would have had a dead dwarf on our hands. Having a healer on the more dangerous missions is good.
Speaking of which, we need her to teach us some first aid or something because we can't heal for shit.
>>
Ohhhh. I just got why him being Swedish is funny.

This is a trap from the very start. Two question come to mind; Was this meant just for Torbjorn or were we also meant as a target and who sprung it.
>>
>>1026384
It was probably meant just for Torbjorn. Talon and other anti-Overwatch agencies seem to prefer taking out the agents one at a time.
>>
>>1026384
P sure it was meant for just Torbjorn. They probably wouldn't have tried to use poison gas if they were aiming for a guy with some environmental protections like us as well.
>>
Fortunately for Torbjorn, you're an expert at retracing your path through a warren-like maze of tunnels and ladders. You support him as best you can while you lead the way back through the insides of the mech. At the access hatch, Torbjorn punches in the keypad combination to open it, then vomits something green on the floor. The two of you struggle out of the hatch and back onto the land.

"Take it easy, Torbjorn," you say. "Mercy's here with us. She'll get you patched up."

Tracer blinks up to you. "Hiya, Torb!" she says.

"Tracer, no time to explain. Get Mercy, okay? Bring her back here."

"Err- okay, you got it." She salutes and blinks away.

You assist Torbjorn into a seated position. He coughs up something vile. "Knew I shoulda replaced my damn lungs ..." he grumbles.

Shortly Tracer comes racing back. Mercy comes swooping behind her, using the Valkyrie Suit's flight assist to keep up. She lands on the ground beside you. "My goodness," she says, kneeling to examine Torbjorn. "What happened?"

"Some kind of poison gas," you say. "Can you help him?"

Mercy activates her Caduceus Staff, sending a beam of yellow biotic energy into Torbjorn. "This should keep him stable, but he requires medical attention. Should we take him to the local hospital, or back to the Watchpoint? I could help him there."

"The hospital will be crowded with all the victims of the attack," you say. "We can't be sure he gets what he needs in time. Can you keep him stable until we get back?"

"Yes."

Torbjorn coughs, louder this time, a look of shock on his face.

"Oh, er, right." Tracer laughs nervously. "This may not be the best time to tell you, but ... we may have reformed Overwatch?"

Torbjorn gasps, his face turning red. He manages to say, "... kill yourselves without me ..."

"I think he wants to come back with us," you say. He nods. "All right. Tracer, help me get him up. Let's get to the Aurora before we get tangled up in anything here."

You and Tracer help Torbjorn to his feet, and you start making your way through the destruction of the attack.

Yeah I agree. Fucking Illuminati.
>>
>>1026396
It is interesting that whoever instigated the assassination attempt was able to hijack Sven's little rampage to do it. There's no way they could've predicted something like that in advance, so they must have been acting as an accomplice to Sven only to backstab him at the last second.
>>
>>1026394
"Funnily enough, this isn't the first time I've kidnapped a dwarf with a prosthetic hand."
>>
>Torbjorn almost dies of poison gas
>Gets healed up at base
>Almost dies of rage after we tell him about Bastion
Just know it's going to happen

Can we make the plasma sword attached on our wrist? AC style, then if we want it to turn into gun mode we just release the plasma from a magnetic hold, so we are like Templar assassin in Doto. And maybe the other wrist holds the magnetic shield. Gun sword might be dank but very inefficient :(

Well, we have the terrible relationship with our mother. Now all we need is rampant alcoholism, an autistic bullet counting skill, to be good at lacrosse and a fear of crocodiles.

Shouldn't be too hard.
