Still On The First Island

Character info pastebin in progress: http://pastebin.com/iB0tb7rz

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics are up in the air. Suggestions are welcome. We'll be trying some new things out so I appreciate your patience as we fine tune it. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves, so beware of that timing. I also want to try a more varied turn system so you and your opponent can do a few things in a row more often. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roselia) - With Valerie

Badges: 1

Recently: You meditated, battled Polu, lost Mace as he rocketed off into the distance, got captured by wild pokemon, and found Mace after a long trek.

You hold Mace tight for a little longer.

“Oh! Right!” You take out a potion and apply it to the small rock pokemon. “There you go.”

He perks up a bit. He’s still very tired looking, but a lot better than how he seemed a minute ago. He points to the boldore that’s on a tiny island in the middle of the swamp.

“He’s in trouble, huh?”

You watch the various blobs under the water circle around. You don’t know who that boldore is or what pokemon those could be, but you have to help.

You take out your pokedex to try to get some information, but it fails. It can’t see through the muddy water.

Your two pokemon are worn out, and you’re outnumbered by whatever is in the water. There’s got to be maybe 6 or 7 of them, and maybe more you don’t see.

You need a plan.

>Just swim over there and try to carry it back. Those pokemon probably won’t attack a human
>Try to be a distraction so boldore can swim get away
>Maybe you can go back and work something out with those pikachu

We should start by chucking something (be it a not-best rock or some food) far off to one side of the water.

Also just noticed you're sick. I am sending you strength, so you can bash those keys faster. Hang in there, Gobble.

You’ve got it! You’ll act as a distraction so that boldore can get away.

Standing up, you let the rock pokemon see you. At least, whatever it’s equivalent of seeing it. You try to signal that you’re going to give it a chance to get out of there. You’re not sure if your intentions are clear. It seems to acknowledge something, though.

You throw a rock to the far side of the bank to see what happens first. It lands with heavy sounding splunk. A second later, a pokemon flies out of the water, then dives back in after it. It doesn’t look vicious at all.

But on the other hand, neither do pikachu.

Gobble and Mace aren’t sure what their part in this is

>"Stay close to me and back me up if they get close."
>"Go help Boldore once I start making a distraction."
>Put them in their balls. They’re worn out
>Have them go make another distraction not too far away to ensure none of the swamp pokemon miss being distracted

“You two go help Boldore once I distract them, okay?

Gobble looks to you, unsure about your plan.

“I’ll be fine,” you say as you pet him on the head. “Don’t worry.”

Gobble believes you. Mace still looks skeptical, but also anxious about the boldore and doesn't have a better plan.

You send those two a little upstream, then move a little farther down. You take out your pan and a rock.

Okay, here goes.

CLANG CLANG CLANG. You pound on it as you march around the edge of the water. You start yelling. “Ah blahbahah! Rabhlagrlh! Look at me! Look at me!”

A few blobs swim to the surface and look at you. Some of the farther off ones are still hanging around the island.

>Get in the water and get closer.
>Throw the rock at the farther ones. They might not like that, though.
>Good enough. Signal your pokemon to go help.
>Pick a fight with the closer ones. That will draw them all for sure, and you have a head start to run

You take out some pokemon food. Hey, it works, right?

The first few start approaching cautiously. You toss a small nibble’s worth to the closest. It zooms away before it lands, but comes back quickly and snaps it up. Giving a noise of approval, it comes closer to you. The others follow suit.

You toss a few more bits. The farther ones are coming now too. Good. You see Gobble and Mace moving in the back now that the coast is clear.

“That’s right. Come and get it.” You toss out some more bits. “Hey. Slow down. There’s plenty for everyone.” You hope.

They’re getting really aggressive now. Instead of using the bread to lure them, you’re tossing it to keep them away. “Okay everyone. Calm down.” One leaps out of the water and snaps food from your hand. The others are swamping you. You’ll be surrounded in a second, and what’s left of the pokemon food will be gone very shortly at this pace.

“Hey. Hey.” You stand firm instead of continually backing away. A spray of water hits your face. “Hey!”

Your voice always sounded a little high pitched and boyish to you, but it’s much lower than theirs. And every year, it gets deeper. Yeah. You’re a man in some cultures. Not a scared boy. These are harmless, cute little pokemon.

“Everyone be quiet!”

The little water pokemon stop moving and look at you.

Awww. they’re so cute! You feel bad for yelling.

No! Stay strong.

“Alright. Line up. Single file. That’s right. Come on.” You feed the first one in line, then the next. “When you get yours, you go to the back. Got it? Hey! No cutting!”

You sneak a glance over to where Boldore is.

Was.

Good job, team. You aren’t sure where they are, but things are looking good. And just in time, too. You’re running low. The water pokemon have all gotten a decent share. You’re glad they’re so small, because otherwise you might have just whet their appetite.

The next one of them approaches, looking for the last bit of food. You give it the last bit and wipe your hands. It zooms to the back of the line.

The next one comes. He, or she, you don’t know, was the last one to approach, acting the most cautiously. But you’re all out, now. It got less than the rest.

You could cook some more food, but that’d take a lot of trust and probably some luck to assume that nothing else will go wrong. And it’s getting late, too. You’re not sure about staying out here after that Raichu incident. Plus you have your own pokemon to look after.

>Sorry. All gone. Bye!

“That’s it, everyone.” You announce to the line. “All out.”

The mood has become pretty relax. Nobody got stuff, but nobody is hungry.

You kneel down to the little one in front of you. “Hey. Sorry you didn’t get as much. If you come with me, I’ll feed you some more later.” You think it’s a fair offer.

It looks around at the others, who aren’t at all paying attention. Then to the surrounding area, and to you again. You just smile back.

“You don’t have to come. I just thought that since you didn’t get as much as the others...” You trail off. You don’t want to force it.

“Well. okay, then.” You guess it isn't coming. You stretch and slowly make your way back to where Gobble, Mace, and hopefully Boldore should be.

The three of them are soaked, exhausted, and laying on the ground. Gobble gets up to shake off some water. You pat him on the head, then check Mace. Mace gives you a very subtle nod. You understand. He’s glad to see you too, but he just wants to lie down for a minute before you leave.

“Hi, Boldore.”

Boldore moves away from you, not trusting a human. Mace mutters something to him and rolls over. It’s enough to get Boldore to relax, but not entirely.

“So you two are friends, huh?”

Boldore nods, keeping it’s distance. It looks too tired to do much, though.

Well. This is going nowhere slowly.

“Herb!” Valerie yells as she runs over. “My goodness. You look awful. Are you alright?”

You glance over. She came out of nowhere! Bella is riding her Lillipup.

“Doing fine, thanks!” You catch the energetic Bella as she leaps into your arms. “Bella!” You sneak a glance to the water pokemon as you spin her. They’ve mostly dispersed and stay a safe distance away. They’re slowly floating downstream.

Valerie says she’ll call the others and tell them you’re okay. She looks a little tired herself. She talks to who sounds like Hana, but you’re not really paying attention.

“Herb. Herb!” She snaps you out of it. “Are we heading all the way back, or camping? I don’t mind either way.” She motions to her compacted super tent. “But the others want to know.”

“I think everyone is pooped.” You look to your pokemon, but you’re including yourself in that statement, too. “Camping is probably a good idea.”

She nods, then reports it back into her pokedex. You hear Laki’s voice respond. You didn’t catch what she said, but it makes Valerie blush.

“Well then.” She stands up straight and brushes down her dress. “Shall we?”

You’re about to retrieve everyone when Mace gets up. He rushes over to near the swamp.

“Mace, where are you going?”

You follow up in a casual jog. He’s not going too far or fast. You watch as he drags something out of the muddy water. It’s his Macho Brace! Well, what’s left of it. He drags it to your feet and looks down.

“Hey, don’t worry about that thing. I’m just glad you’re okay.”

He looks up.

“And we’ll figure something out with your energy. I know it.”

He doesn’t seem entirely convinced, but he doesn’t look like he wants to talk about it right now. Poor guy looks humiliated.

You pick up all your stuff and retrieve him. Just as you’re leaving, you turn to see the little mudkip. It was watching from the reeds.

“Did you change your mind?”

It makes a noise and follows.

You and Valerie walk a decent distance away to find a dry clearing. Mudkip seems to warm up to her immediately. She likes it too.

“Aren’t you just the cutest!” She pokes it’s nose.

Her tent takes no time at all to set up. You’re a little jealous. You think about what you’re going to do with Mudkup and Boldore. Maybe-

“Herb. If I say something, do you promise not to be offended?”

You glance over. “Umm, okay.”

“You could really use a bath.”

You look at yourself. Yeah. She’s right. You’ve had a long day. “Yeah.”

She leads you to a stream and tosses you a bar of soap. She even has a clean towel. “I’ll be upstream. Come back to the tent when you’re done, okay?”

“Sure!”

“And Herb. I’m glad you and Mace are okay.”

Gobble harumphs.

“You too,” she giggles and pets him. She turns to leave.

You feel like you should say something. She’s so calm and prepared. She found Bella, found you, and all you’ve done is mess up her contest dress.

>You feel too awkward. It’s bath time!
>Wait! Apologize for messing up her contest before

“Wait!”

She turns around quickly, causing a shoulder strap to fall down her slender arm. She gracefully pulls it back up.

“Thanks for taking care of Bella. And coming to get me.”

She smiles and nods. “Of course! It’s like papa says; we’re all on the same team.”

“And I’m sorry. About before. With your dress before the contest.”

She sighs, but keeps her smile on. “It’s fine. I don’t think I was going to win anyway. But I appreciate the thought.” She doesn’t sound insincere, but she does sound distant. You don’t think she holds a grudge or anything, but you don’t think she’s being totally honest about how she feels, either. “Don’t worry about it, Herb. You didn’t do anything wrong. Okay?” She leaves towards the small waterfall upstream.

You, Mace, Gobble, and Bella get nice and clean in the surprisingly not-cold stream. It’s a little weird to be naked in front of your pokemon, but they don’t seem to care one bit. Well, Bella is looking more than you’re comfortable with at first, but she quickly turns her attention to trying to goad Mace into playing.

Mudkip and Boldore watch from the side. Boldore doesn’t seem to want to get anywhere near the water. He and Mace have some sort of conversation.

Mudkip approaches.

“Want to get cle-”

There’s a shriek from upstream! Or was it a laugh? You and all the pokemon turn to face it.

You look to Mace and Boldore. They don’t indicate which they think it was. Maybe they can’t tell on account of the rushing water from over there.

You don’t know what to do. She could be in trouble. Or it could be nothing.

You hop out of the water and grab the towel. Instead of drying off, you wrap it around your waste.

Ow. Ow. Ow. Walking on rocks.

As you get a bit closer, you start to get cold feet. Not literally, of course. They’re sore, not cold. But you’re worried.

“Bella. I need to ask you something.” You whisper. “I need you to go check things out for me, okay?”

Bella listens and nods. There’s a question in that look she’s giving you, too.

“Because if she thinks I’m spying on her naked,” you can’t believe you’re saying this “then she’ll be upset with me.” You look around. “Please?”

Bella has a devious grin, but she runs off. You get as close as you safely can and wait

And wait.

After a few minutes, you start to peer around. Where did she go?

“John!” You turn around and see Valerie standing over you. She’s got a towel wrapped around herself. “I can’t believe you!”

Belladonna is grins from behind her leg and giggles.

Betrayal!

“I swear! I wasn’t trying to look! I heard a scream, so I came over.”

She folders her arms and puts her foot up on a slightly higher rock. You try not to pay attention to how form fitting the towel is or how much leg she’s showing. “You thought I was in danger so you decided to sneak around in the bushes?”

“I didn’t know for sure! And with the raichu and pikachu that attacked me and how Mace and boldore were stuck before, I-I-I.” Your mind is racing. “I was worried. That’s all. Ask my pokemon!”

She looks to Mace and Gobble. Mace emphatically supports you. Gobble is taking it less seriously, but still very much on your side.

“Well. Of course your pokemon would agree.” She glances to Mudkip and Boldore.

Mudkip, looking concerned about being the center of attention, does nod. Boldore shrugs, but also agrees after Mace makes a noise.

Bella snickers.

“Bella!” You shout.

Valerie sees it too. She looks a lot less angry at you. Instead, she’s more confused. “So...you weren’t peeking?”

You put your hands up. “No. I’d never do that to you. Ever. Not in a million years. I-”

“Okay! Okay. You made your point. I believe you.”

“Are you sure? You sound annoyed. I just really want to be really clear that I’m not trying to see your body-”

“I. Get. It.” She inhales. Then she exhales. “But why did Bella act like you were?”

Everyone turns to the grass pokemon. “That’s a good question. Bella. You could have done real damage. You shouldn’t lie. Do you understand why what you did was wrong?”

She doesn’t seem to be taking you too seriously. She examines her petals.

You’re upset, but you’re not really the yelling type. And to be honest, you’ve never really been good at holding a grudge or expressing anger. You feel like Bella is taking advantage of that, though.

>Yell at her. Even act like you’re angrier than you are.

>>

She could be bewildered by our poorfagness, our zero tact, our obliviousness, harboring a tiny bit of resentment towards the contest, being confused about her sexuality more, or any number of other things.

Chances are it's one of the later two. IMO.
>>
>>1034549
I mean, it seemed to me she was into boys, I don't see how we would stir her uncomfortable homosexual urges, unless she's itching to ask us about them due to our own obvious gayness. Tact part could be it too though.

My interpretation is that she doesn't blame us for the contest, but is probably annoyed that we keep bringing it up. Also, at least for this conversation, the "Not interested in your body" comments from Herb have definitely ticked her off and might bother her more in the future too.

Past that I'm not too sure. Wouldn't be surprised if she might suspect that Herb is gay from this. In a past "What everyone thinks of Herb" post she was already starting to lean that way anyway.
>>
>>1034600
Yeah, Herb is basically being really annoying and saying how he's not interested in looking at her at all has got to hurt Val's pride. After all she is a pretty girl, that may not have been feeling particularly pretty since she's been in the company of all the other hotties that make up the main cast.

Herb has to realize that Val is interested in any of his apologies. At least Laki, Keira, and Jane all know he's interested in the lady folks. Heck those three have all felt a Herb erection one way or the other. So no chance of all the girls thinking Herb's gay I'm afraid.
>>
>>1034323
Oh, wait. Drop the full name. That usually gets attention.
>>
>>1034340
Hope you feel better Gobble.
>>
>>1034338
Definitely this.
>>
>>1034614
The best way to fix that for now would be another few apologies, still vehemently denying the peeking, but saying that it doesn't mean that shes not good looking. Actually, shes very good looking, amazing looking even but no of course we weren't peeking. We would never do that, even if the girl was as pretty as her.
>>
>>1034323
>>1034338
This works very well. Disappointment, especially from a father figure, is a very good deterrant for bad behavior.
>>
>>1035020
Eh, I feel she probably doesn't want to be treated as fragile or sheltered. We've apologized a couple times already, and I'm sure we'll have ample opportunity to complement her later. Best thing for our relationship is to get to know each other a bit better, plain and simple.
>>
>>1035226
Yeah, it's sort weird Val is the only person in our group that we haven't had a heart to heart with. She might eventually think Herb is avoiding her if we don't at least try to have an honest conversation with Val.

Gosh we've made more progress with Jane than Val. I think Val honestly sees through Herb better than the others. As mainlanders you'd think they'd have the most in common, but we've had a lot of misunderstanding with each other. Hopefully a opportunity presents itself for us to get to know Val better.
>>
>>1035344
Well, we are bunking with her tonight. Hopefully we can elicit some sort of reaction from her other than "Oh, it's fine, really." Maybe we should ask how she's settling in to Loanah? Or if she's met any cute boys?
>>
>>1035417
I'm interested in learning why she came to the islands or why she started her journey. Other questions I'd like to ask are if she has any goals or if she has any any advice raising Pokemon or to ask her about her Mons. Heck or even thank her for being so nice to Hana. I feel like we have so many topics that it is a little difficult to decide what to bring up first.
>>
>>1036708
Well, she seems to like Mudkip. Maybe ask if she plans on catching it?
>>
>>1034323
Upon further reflection, I think that it's important in this sort of thing to make understanding why the kid did what they did as much of a priority as making them understand why it was wrong. Oftentimes they need to understand what to do instead. In this case, Bella needs to learn that our relationship with other girls doesn't affect our relationship with Laki. But we can't know what Bella needs to learn unless we understand why she's acting this way.
>>
>>1036708
A part of me imagines she started her journey to accomplish something on her own. With her family's wealth and status, she's probably always had people in her life to make sure she always succeeded at whatever she did. This could be part of her way to finding independence.

As an aside, maybe her strange reaction to the contest is due to her getting an unexpected result. You normally prepare yourself for failure or success, but mediocrity? She may have been hoping for a clear cut answer to help her decide what paths she wants to pursue, and that failed. Now she's as indecisive as before while everyone else seems to be pursuing their own paths.

She's probably frustrated. But it's not at Herb, nor herself. She's just drifting right now and it's getting really annoying.
>>
>>1037246
That's a really good point too. Honestly, it's easy to forget, but she's probably going through as much as Herb is right now. It's easy for us to know that Herb is trying not to be a doormat, but maybe she is too. We have the benefit of getting other character's perspectives on occasion, but there's still a lot we don't know about their internal lives. She's probably thinking about her body, goals, relationships, and personality as much as we think about ours. That's a lot of lenses through which she may be seeing her current situation through.
>>
>>1036942

I don't really feel a connection with this Mudkip though. Gobble and Mace fought alongside us before we caught them, and we hatched Bella ourselves.

I wonder if Boldore would be interested in us catching it to evolve and release it. I imagine wild trade pokemon either have some sort of alternative option (like living with another species or herd for a while) or what.

>>
>>1037290
She's probably less of a doormat and more polite/proper. She'd fall back on that in the same way we fall back on appeasing others - familiar territory, so to speak. Beyond that, she's probably still trying to figure out an appropriate way to carry herself around people that is both comfortable to her and lets her cultivate relationships with the people she wants, all while avoiding rich girl stereotypes since she thinks they'll hold her back on that last bit.

It's a hard balancing act if you don't deal with a lot of varied people and learn for yourself what you like/accept/tolerate/hate in other people beyond a conceptual level.

Not a gator. Argument is invalid.

But rly, tiers are slightly less valid in this quest. They mean a lot, but we're running off cartoon magic here as much as normal mechanics.
>>
>>1037652
Tiers don't actually mean much at all
>>
>>1037693
Tiers was the wrong word. Should have said 'strongest' or 'best', but the rest still applies.
>>
>>1037706
Yeah, more like a scale. So a Kriketune could match with a Lucario if they are well trained enough. If I understand how Gobble is doing it.
>>
>>1037693
No kidding, were training a roggenrola, and he's badass.

Speaking of, what's our plan now? Have the macho brace repaired? Train like hell until level 40? See if that A-Graveler can teach him in the ways of explosion? Shop for the tm? Seek self-control in meditation?

>>1037469
I guess I can sympathize. I really want Keira to give us Shedinja.
>>
>>1037724
I think Shedninja is very important for her character growth and hot trash. Like it can only take 1 super effective hit always in anything. In a system like this it would be terrible.

As for a plan maybe just train him to use the energy more.

I have no idea what the competitive tiers are, a Swampert has always been my best bro since Emerald

>>1037724
I'd like to teach Mace how to fly using his energy jets like Ironman. No one would expect a rock type to be insanely mobile, and if we can somehow teach him Hyper Beam despite being a stage one pokemon, or any other beam moves, we could have him do some insane tactics
>>
>>1037734
Oh, I know it's bad. But it's also occasionally completely unstoppable. Just imagine it tanking hydro pumps and leaf blades and earthquakes and Draco meteors. We could use a ghost anyways.

>>1037759
I like those ideas, but until we get there I really want to bond with mace through meditation. Both Herb and Mace seem to take to it well. I also like the self-aware, emotionally in-tune side of Herb that it brings out. I also think it'd bring us closer to sensing aura, and I love how Gobble does aura.
>>

In this quest the anime rules apply just about any Pokemon can become a combat beast with the right training and a little bit of personal flair. Heck Zubat really isn't all that stellar stat wise, but Vlad wrecked face with the training we did with him.

Also Lanturn is best Water mon and that is all.
>>

with how our team is shaping up, a Castform would be really useful for double battles. Even better, it can learn more than 4 moves, so we can stock them(I always assumed they were genderless, but bulbapedia says they have a 50/50 ratio) with weather moves. Plus, we'd have a use for the nevermeltice Crowbro gave us.

Unless we wanted to just use the ice to keep our water cold while we're hiking, which would definitely be worth it
>>
>>1037875
Spinda's great. Drunk boxing, access to assist, cute spot patterns, access to contrary + skill swap (in gen 6), teeter dance. Oh, and shuckle's good to. In gen II it could ferment berries into rare candies.

I'd like to meet a Wishiwashi if Mudkip goes to Val. Nobody excepts Wishiwashi to go aggro on them, plus it's a cute little fish. Honestly there are tons of cool water mons that I'd be okay with.
>>
>>1037910
I dunno. We don't really need a water type. Bella and Mace already cover everything water does. Not that wishiwashi isn't cool and all, but it doesn't really do anything for me.
>>
>>1037956
Water is the most flexible type, as well as having one of the best defensive typings in the game thanks to ground/water. They also get a slew of support moves made much better in this system
>>
>>1037973
Every pokemon benefits from this system. And wishiwashi gets the support of what, aqua ring and helping hand? If we want a bulky, mono-water supporter I'd much rather go for pyukumuku, who reflects johns pacifism and produces a nice moisturizer/aloe.
>>
>>1037975

So in our current party for Herb we need coverage for Fighting, Poison, Electric, and Dragon. Fairy covers three of those types, so we should probably consider really any fairy mon.
>>
>>1037996
A-Vulpix never ever
>>
>>1037996
Personally my vote is for Mimikyu. I'm rooting for the eldritch monster, he's so cute!
>>
>>1037996
Yeah, fairy is what we need the most, (assuming we don't get Bella that dazzling gleam tm and call it good), followed by ground (assuming we don't teach gobble/mace the ground moves they can learn and call it good) followed by ghost or dark (assuming we don't teach gobble ghost/dark moves he can learn and call it good.)

I would like a mawile. I used to see it as an overhyped waifumon way back when, but now I've grown warmer to it.
>>

has a good point in regards to character reasons, but I think we should get a Floette.
>>
>>1038036
I like Flabébé, I would support this. Just as trivia, it's also one of the few female only pokemon.
>>
>>1038036
>>1038046
I'm kinda eh on that whole line. It's just kinda generic
>>
>>1038036
Florges is all right. Doesn't jump out at me though. Having a bunch of grass moves doesn't mean much when we already have Bella. Same reasoning why I'm not too keen on Carbink. I like it, but we already have mace. I'm also a little less keen on gardevoir because it makes reuniclus less likely, but that's much less of an issue.

We want a smaller party this time, and that means people want to avoid repeat types and single types more, and that means some cool pokemon are devalued a bit for the sake of a tighter story. It's worth it I think.
>>
>>1038049
Yeah, that's why I thought Mimikyu would be cool. covers types that aren't super strong right now. Unfortunately it doesn't learn it's fairy move till late. Maybe we can find a TM?
>>
>>1038057
Honestly, if we're talking type coverage and speed of good moves, mawile probably trumps mimikyu. Play Rough isn't even a tm. And if we got the tm for dazzling gleam, we could just teach it to Bella.
>>
>>1038061
What was that TM we got that was dirtied up? did we ever get that back?
>>
>>1038071
Not yet, the guy who messed up Herb's pokedex is restoring the TM quickly in exchange for us not telling anybody about him messing up. Maybe when we make it back to the temple? Or a few days after that.
>>
>>1038071
We let that particular plot point drop when we went sprinting into the forest. I guess that just means we'll get another chance to do things at the temple before we leave the island. Personally, is like us to decide in-character that we want to study under those chefs at least once each, but we may need to wait until we have knowledge of value to trade.
>>
>>1038079
>>1038080
right, right I forgot.

Hopefully gobble doesn't forget either
>>
>>1038081
Gobble takes notes. I doubt too much will be forgotten, and if it is, it will likely be forgotten by us. How many of us remember that Keira owes us a favor?

Speaking of her, I want to help Polu and Keira grow closer. They seem kind of afraid of each other.
>>
>>1038093
Fear is mostly on Polu's end and pretty much solely due to Keira being a priestess and him practicing what her religion considers heresy. On Keira's end, the main thing holding her back would be that she was told growing up not to trust people from Polu's island.

So they probably don't have any real problems between each other as people, but the first steps might be a bit rough.
>>
>>1038036

I liked the darkness of the old quest. Gripped me from the start. I actually like the bits with Hornbeam in my unpopular opinion. I don't want to have multiple girlfriends, though. Tbh, Clair was somewhat of a Laki (not entirely, but they're both sarcastic smartasses) and Hana is like Robin (though I kind of like Hana better, don't shoot me). Kiera a cute. Kiera a obvlious. I'm really eager to see more of Val. She seems pretty boring atm, but Jeanine was, too, and I liked her character as she went on more.
All in all, this quest is severely light-hearted compared to the old one. At times it gets a little boring, but I think that's just because I like darker themes.
Best waifu is either Hana or Kiera. I reeeally like Hana and I would love to see her Dom (bc I know she could totally do it. Again, like Robin), but I'd love to see her sub and Herb take his time with her, reminding her of how beautiful she is.
>>
>>1038760
Well we haven't even left the first island yet. I'm sure we will have some darker times. Probably not Hornbeam's level, but you know.
>>
>>1038130
Again, it's a fairy monotype with grass moves we don't need. Plus swirling will likely be pretty tough to evolve. Even though I'm not too keen on them, I'd rather have snubbul or spritzee or snubbul than swirlix. And if it didn't have to be mono fairy, I'd also go for Azurill or Mime Jr.

>>1038760
When we get serious, and I'm sure we will eventually, I'd like it to see it much more focused. Rather than national power struggles, is like to see our friends overcoming their personal demons.

Jane letting her guard down. Val finding purpose. Laki moving on and forgiving herself. Keira learning her place in the world outside her temple. Hana pursuing her water gym leader dream. Those are the plot threads that we're already invested in, and they can be taken seriously because of it.
>>
>>1037724
Why would she just give away her pokemon?
>>
>>1038814
Keira can't train ghosts. I guessed she'd give it away at least as readily as she'd release it.
>>
>>1038830
We have yet to see. I'm sure it will be a very big plot dead.
>>
>>1038760
Speaking of darker themes, I'd honestly like to learn more about Kontote in a way that doesn't potentially out Polu as a practitioner.

From the sounds of things, what they practice is seen as really fucked up by the rest of the islanders, so they pretend that they don't do it anymore.

And seeing as it's something that can presumably be invoked by breaking a specially-prepared object, I'm wondering if it's anything like shadow pokemon stuff or worshiping a dark legendary/dark spirits or something.
>>
>>1038835
Yeah. I've been wanting to ask her what her plan is. Whatever ends up happening, I just don't want it to happen off-screen.

>>1038840
My prediction is that they just keep doing what the normal temple had done, and it was the wrongful banning of those practices by Eelilee that made them do so in secret and appear shady. It'll probably turn out less simple though.
>>
>>1038794
I'm very interested in seeing how Keira will develop over the quest, getting exposed to so much when her entire life's been controlled and now she suddenly has so much freedom. I'm not even interested in her and Herb getting together(Laki had me since the start) but it'll be fun to see her coming of age.

I hope Jane is always our rival, but hopefully she'll become more friendly over time...She's already started to but she's still very paranoid. Maybe Polu would be a good influence if they hung out more?

I hope Herb can be someone Hana can rely on as well, she seems to have missed out on a lot of chances in life because of the accident and it'd be nice if she can find life long friends with the group.

Laki's honestly kind of tough, she's disappointed in herself and probably feels like the nation's disappointed in her. I'm sure there will be more chances to figure out more of her side over time but I hope we're given the choice to help with her drinking problem.

Completely unrelated and I know it's unpopular. I just hope there's a chance for at least a three-way relationship in the quest. Having it happen here doesn't feel samey at all in comparison to the first quest to me. I know they don't work out often or well in real life but this is meant to be a fantastical story, not everything has to relate to reality the same way. I don't know why but triangle relationships just work so well to me in stories. In the end I hope every character is given a resolution we can be happy with.
>>
>>1039260
I'll admit, I like variations on classic romance. What I most want to see though is pairs that don't go anywhere. Most first relationships don't last forever.

Still not into a trio though. It's not bad, but I've had my fill.

>>1040142
speaking of types what were our speculations on laki, hana, polu and janes aura typings?
I'm guessing hana has normal and/or steel?
Jane has dragon and maybe dark or poison (prideful, paranoid)
Polu seems like water.
no idea on laki...
oh and val uh....

That's not my mother! I look nothing like that warthog!
>>
>>1040256
To be fair you look nothing like Laki either.
>>
>>1040227
Jane is Dragon certainly, probably Poison though, since she's less mean spirited for the sake of it and just warped.

Polu is water and maybe Lightning, very energetic and energized but goes with the flow. Might be fire though for his manly passion.

Laki seems to be Dark/Fighting. She's physical takes pride in her body and being tough and a "badass" but has MAJOR self worth issues like someone else we knew from quest one.

Val is probably Normal in all honesty.

>>
>>1040227
Laki is probably fire/fighting
Val is fairy/something (maybe normal?)
Jane I think is dragon/fire (or something aggressive)
Hana I'd actually think is like psychic/something, having all manner of mental fantasies but having to hide her power level at all times
Polu is probably water at least, but there's a hidden side to him we know little about
>>
>>1040295
the steel bit was intended as a minor tasteless joke, given the energy she shows off when pumped up i'd say fighting or electric...
>>
>>1040295
>>1040298
The problem is fire is usually ambitious and energetic, Laki isn't noticeably more energetic than most and has NO ambition. She might have been fire when she was younger but now it's guttered out and is naught but ashes. She's Dark because of her love of bullying AND massive depression.

Val could probably be fairy and/or normal.

Still maintain Jane is dragon/poison which is caustic, much like her attitude.

>>1040310
I could see electric, maybe.
>>
>>1040332
I always assumed that Kat was poison because of her selfhatred, cause her mind was a shithole filled with toxic memories.

Which means Laki is a Croagunk. Even the chest wraps work

Poison just means you're poison to your freinds and or yourself constantly. She's less toxic about it and more woe it me, which is why I said Dark. Hopefully Gobble makes a ruling on this.

I'd argue that alcoholism is poison to the sufferer and their friends, even though Laki hasn't had any massive problems with it yet

Kat was fire/dark at the end of her quest, but she ended up making friends with the evil her in her dreams. Seems like most mental problems would cause someone to have a poisonous aura, rather than Dark. Dark was more about how she was morally grey, at least that's how I saw it
>>
>>1040433
I'd argue it's dictated by how destructive you are to not only yourself but to everyone around you.
>>
>>1040488
I wouldn't be surprised if every type came with both good and bad sides.

Dragon, which can mean a force of will and sense of prideful determination, could also be suceptible to hubris and elitism.

Normal, which could mean centeredness, zen, calm, and worldliness, could also be susceptible to inaction, indecision, and stagnation.

Fairy has seelie and unseely. Grass has both a side which provides nourishment and a side that takes it. Fire has passion and recklessness. Poison has cleverness and treachery. And so on.

Again, I really want to learn more about auto in-character.

>>
>>1040752
when was the last time you got drunk because you lost a game to a teenager?
>>
>>1040865
Never.
I'm not quite old enough to drink.
>>
>>1040865
I get drunk every time after FNM, does that count?
>>
>>1040883
Next thing you're going to say is that you can't even smoke.

You're not missing much, hangovers aren't fun

>>

Right there with you on the magic thing.

Laki a best tho.
>>
>>1041457
i must respectfully disagree, as scientific data shows that Keira and Jane are the best girls
>>
>>1041557
>jane best girl
Ive see that you've been reading those steven hawking papers

Great taste anon
>>
>>1041557
Keira is okay. A good second or third on the roster.

Jane is human garbage.

The worst part is that if we drop her off a cliff she'll just come back like Delmer, guaranteed.
>>
>>1041599
Nah mate, Jane just needs to be redeemed by Herb's plantain. Remind her that it's part of native culture to lust after mainlanders, as shown by their priesthood anddisgraced celebrities.
>>
>>1042106
Nope. Can't stand her. She can change now all she wants.

I'd rather Herb's plantain stoke the fire of said ex celebrity.
>>
>>1042120
But said ex celebrity is human garbage and a disgrace to her nation

At least Jane hasn't been a bitch to a child like the celebrity
>>
>>1042274
To be fair said child twists what everyone says to her in the worst possible way and is incredibly paranoid to boot. Perhaps she took a benign comment the exact wrong way?
>>
>>1042274
Laki wasn't a bitch to a child. Jane takes every word and action as a slight against her. She has a seeming inability to understand other peoples motivations and goals. Everything must have to do with her.

Laki is the best her nation has ever produced. She's the only athlete that has made it to the Olympics.
>>
>>1042274
>At least Jane hasn't been a bitch to a child
That's a pretty massive assumption there.
>>
Daily reminder that best priestess and best cyborg are also best companions in general.
>>
>>1042302
Having your hero blow you off after refusing to even compete probably doesn't help. Add in a divorce after the celebrity bails on the olympics and you get a pretty fucked up psyche.

in the irl olympics, every nation gets to send people, even if there's no way they'll win, right? After all, Mexico still competes in the Winter Olympics. Is there a minimum standard that has to be met?
>>
>>1042336
daily reminder we have laki for good.

Hail the victorious laki shippers, HAIL
>>
>>1042352
Laki did compete, she just fucked up so bad she lost all her confidence and didn't try again. As for what she said? That's through the lens of Jane, which is twisted.
>>
>>1042352
>Having your hero blow you off after refusing to even compete probably doesn't help. Add in a divorce after the celebrity bails on the olympics and you get a pretty fucked up psyche.
Not really. People go through far worse and still function at a much higher level than Jane. She's pretty comically over-the-top.
>>
>>1042380
For now. Best girl will still win in the end

>>1042391
Jane is an unreliable narrator, but she doesn't seem like she'd have anything to gain by lying to Herb. She said herself that he could have found the info she told him if he looked for it. We can assume that the story she told us is true, and Laki did give up despite still being in the competition.
>>
>>1042380
Daily reminder everyone's waifu is shit

I'll help ship best athlete if we go that route. Until the route-lock happens, though, I will will not yield ground.
>>
>>1042434
She doesn't have anything to gain from lying to Herb. Hell she doesn't have anything to gain from lying to herself. But she does.

She keeps telling herself everyone is out to get her and that Herb is a monster.

She's pinned her parents divorce on Laki not winning a metal in the Olympics. She's not dealing with a full deck.
>>
>>1042434
>For now. Best girl will still win in the end
We already have best girl for good.
>>
>>1042434
I am saying she took what Laki said, to her specifically, wrong, or twisted it, because Jane's mind is fucked. She treats half of what we say to her as a personal challenge. As for Laki, she DID try, she failed badly, and then did not use her second try, which is exactly how Jane described it. What Jane fails to realize is Laki probably had her confidence shot to shit from that first fail.
>>
is it just that the other groups are less vocal or are the Laki shippers incredibly annoying?
>>
>>1042481
If people bitched and whined less there'd be less Laki posting in return.
>>
>>1042481
Laki isn't even my fave, just one anon willfully misrepresenting things annoys me.
>>
>>1042481
Probably that Laki shippers are just on right now. We've had a fair smattering of other shippers floating around.

It's traditional shit posting at this point. I usually keep it in spoilers because I'm messing around.

It doesn't become an issue until people start with the stupid shit.

Example A: Laki is a drunk monster!

Example B: Kiera is a rapist!

>>
>>1042670
Of course Keira isn't a rapist. What she did was only fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. Like how when Jane groped our pin missile it was misdemeanor sexual assault. (I think.) These crimes have no minimum sentence, if convicted they could get a warning or small fine. Jane's threat to break our dick was illegal too, but whatever.

Overall, I like Keira and Jane but I'm still a pedantic asshole.

We'll go back to normal once Gobble joins us again, though I may be lurking then since I'm a little out of my depth with pokemon at this point.
>>
>>1041071
Hey man, I can quit not smoking any time I want to. I just don't want to.

But see, I've been thinking more about aura. I'm wondering if type advantages have at all affected the culture? Like, if the patience which water represents is considered to defeat the recklessness of fire. Or the freedom of flying conquers the rootedness of grass. Or the decisiveness of fighting beats the indecisive centeredness of normal. And a well-rounded person uses the virtues of types strong to their aura to overcome the vices of their aura, and in doing so conqueres themselves.
>>
Thread tomorrow! Who excite?

So I learned about a move I didn't know about before. Only staryu and tentacruel learn it, but it can be bred from them to omanyte, and from omanyte to stunfisk, and from stunfisk to castform or ghastly.

It transforms the user into the target's type. Now, fire, water, electric, grass, ice, poison, psychic, dark, and steel all resist themselves, so it would be good to use against those types.

Ghastly would benefit from the psychic and dark weakness flips. Castform, my darling, could ignore the weakness dictation from the weather.

I want a castform with reflect type.
>>
>>1047409

I bet you don't even know Aero Ass and Rototiller
>>
